Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: So fired up as we begin the new year.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It is show fifty two to ninety two of The
- 0:10Speaker 2: Morning Show with Preston Scotti's ose. We are just thirteen
- 0:14Speaker 2: days a wait. Remember we were counting the days we
- 0:16Speaker 2: were held hostage. Now we're counting down thirteen days till
- 0:21Speaker 2: we have a transformational moment in this country. We just
- 0:25Speaker 2: got to get their friends and joining us on the program,
- 0:28Speaker 2: as promised US Congresswoman Kat Cammick from Florida's third congressional district.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Hope you had a wonderful holiday, Kat, How are you, hey?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Friend? We had a great holiday, very low key. I
- 0:39Speaker 3: actually got to read all the books that I've been
- 0:42Speaker 3: meaning to read, so it was great.
- 0:44Speaker 2: How about you, Well, let's get to things that really matter.
- 0:48Speaker 2: How late do Christmas decoration stay up in your home?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Okay? This is how This is pretty embarrassing. It used
- 0:56Speaker 3: to be that we I like to have a Christmas
- 0:59Speaker 3: tree in every room, and so I've been working up
- 1:02Speaker 3: to that, and it used to be that we would
- 1:04Speaker 3: end up leaving a tree in a room for months
- 1:08Speaker 3: and months and months. It got so crazy busy that
- 1:11Speaker 3: this year my husband got one of the trees out
- 1:15Speaker 3: up and it never even got decorated. That's how bad
- 1:19Speaker 3: it was. Oh yeah, yeah. So I didn't even decorate
- 1:25Speaker 3: the tree and it came down immediately after Christmas because
- 1:29Speaker 3: it was just embarrassing.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Gotcha. So you need like one of those pop up trees.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah yeah. After after the horrific year in Washington that
- 1:40Speaker 3: we had had, I got home and I took one
- 1:43Speaker 3: look at the tree and I was like, I don't
- 1:44Speaker 3: have it any I just wanted to sit up.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Okay, since we're talking about depressing things, all right, tell me,
- 1:53Speaker 2: tell me give me the scoop on the vote for
- 1:56Speaker 2: the Speaker of the House. What what What were your
- 1:58Speaker 2: thoughts on Mike Johnson as speaker and continuing forward?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Well, listen, I mean I've seen this this song and
- 2:06Speaker 3: dance on, you know, speaker drama going back to twenty thirteen,
- 2:11Speaker 3: not as a member of Congress, but I was Ted
- 2:13Speaker 3: Yoho's chief of staff, and I remember when we took
- 2:16Speaker 3: on Bainer and we you know, we formed the Freedom
- 2:19Speaker 3: Caucus and we did all these things. And the thing
- 2:22Speaker 3: that I have learned over the years of trying to
- 2:25Speaker 3: take speakers out and whatnot, especially in a majority of two,
- 2:30Speaker 3: which is what we have it's virtually impossible to get
- 2:33Speaker 3: all of the A type personalities on board because what
- 2:36Speaker 3: it turns into is not a fight for the principles
- 2:41Speaker 3: of certain policies and different positions. What it ends up
- 2:47Speaker 3: turning into is people making demands for offices and capitals
- 2:51Speaker 3: and an increased budget for staff and all kinds of
- 2:56Speaker 3: ridiculous things. And that's and no surprise, that's what it's
- 3:00Speaker 3: turned into with Mike Johnson. And keep in mind, just
- 3:04Speaker 3: a few months ago, no one stood up and voted
- 3:08Speaker 3: against Mike Johnson in the closed vote, the closed doorge
- 3:11Speaker 3: session where we make the decision of who we're picking
- 3:14Speaker 3: for whip and majority leader and all that stuff. It
- 3:17Speaker 3: was unanimous. But when there's a TV camera involved, all
- 3:20Speaker 3: of a sudden, people stand up and they're like, oh,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I have something to say about this. Now they'll say
- 3:25Speaker 3: that it's because of this policy or that, But what
- 3:27Speaker 3: they won't say is what they're doing behind closed doors.
- 3:30Speaker 3: And there were demands made by people for office space
- 3:34Speaker 3: in the capitol, for money for staff, for committee assignments,
- 3:39Speaker 3: for gabbles of committees. And it doesn't work that way.
- 3:42Speaker 3: So when it becomes a personal thing, you know, for
- 3:46Speaker 3: yourself and it's not about the mission, it's not about
- 3:49Speaker 3: the country. That's when I get really irritated, and so
- 3:52Speaker 3: do I think Mike Johnson is perfect, Absolutely not, and
- 3:55Speaker 3: no one is. But I think given the circumstances of
- 3:58Speaker 3: what we're dealing with, he was the best choice. And
- 4:02Speaker 3: we don't have any time to waste. We have very
- 4:06Speaker 3: little time and a ton of work if we're going
- 4:08Speaker 3: to do the America First Agenda the way it needs
- 4:11Speaker 3: to be done. So I thought it was important that
- 4:14Speaker 3: we get it done on the first ballot. Both Nancy
- 4:16Speaker 3: Mason and I we worked to get to get this
- 4:20Speaker 3: done on the first ballot, working with the parliamentary and
- 4:23Speaker 3: Nancy called Trump and we worked with the holdouts and
- 4:26Speaker 3: the Speaker to try to get to a place that
- 4:28Speaker 3: was okay. But in the end it worked out. But
- 4:32Speaker 3: you know, it really doesn't matter who the speaker is ultimately,
- 4:35Speaker 3: because every single member of Congress at this point is
- 4:37Speaker 3: like a senator and can stop a bill, can do
- 4:39Speaker 3: whatever it's at this point, the speaker is just trying
- 4:43Speaker 3: to keep the wheels on the bus.
- 4:46Speaker 2: For lack of a better say, Kat, you mentioned the
- 4:50Speaker 2: America First Agenda. There's so much that we all agree on,
- 4:54Speaker 2: we all voted for, we're all excited about. I think
- 4:59Speaker 2: we're seeing north and south of the border the chain
- 5:02Speaker 2: reaction from Donald Trump's election. However, I have to ask you,
- 5:07Speaker 2: because we've talked about it before. Donald Trump wants the
- 5:11Speaker 2: debt ceiling lifted. Give me your thoughts on all of that,
- 5:15Speaker 2: because that is the one weakness in Donald Trump's agenda,
- 5:18Speaker 2: is not dealing with the debt.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Well, and President, you know, I can't remember what I
- 5:24Speaker 3: had for breakfast yesterday, so I can't remember if we
- 5:27Speaker 3: talked since that vote right before Christmas on the debt ceiling.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I was one of thirty eight members who voted against
- 5:39Speaker 3: the package to suspend the debt ceiling indefinitely, and I
- 5:44Speaker 3: took a lot of heat from that. Well, I mean,
- 5:46Speaker 3: we got death threats from that, and people were saying,
- 5:49Speaker 3: you're not supporting the Trump agenda. Well, the Trump agenda
- 5:53Speaker 3: is the America First agenda, and America first means that
- 5:56Speaker 3: we have to be strong militarily, we have to be
- 5:59Speaker 3: strong economically. And if you raise the debt limits, what
- 6:04Speaker 3: you're telling me is that you're not interested in cutting spending.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Because never once in the history of the world. Has
- 6:10Speaker 3: anyone ever said, well, in order to cut the debt,
- 6:14Speaker 3: we have to increase the debt limit. It doesn't work
- 6:18Speaker 3: that way. And so what we had proposed was, listen,
- 6:22Speaker 3: we know that there's going to need to be some
- 6:24Speaker 3: flexibility here, but a blank check is not acceptable. And
- 6:28Speaker 3: I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat. IM
- 6:31Speaker 3: a fiscal conservative, a constitutional conservative, and I'm not going
- 6:34Speaker 3: to watch as our country gets spent into oblivion. And
- 6:38Speaker 3: so we met with Jade Vance the next morning after
- 6:41Speaker 3: the vote with the Speaker, and we said, listen, how
- 6:47Speaker 3: about we start doing for every dollar that you want
- 6:50Speaker 3: this increase, we do two point five in mandatory savings,
- 6:56Speaker 3: because it's the mandatory spending that is driving our debt.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Interest on our debt has now outpaced what we spend
- 7:03Speaker 3: on defense, which is insane, yep. And we've crossed that
- 7:06Speaker 3: tipping point where no nation has ever been able to
- 7:10Speaker 3: come back from this level of financial chaos ever. And
- 7:16Speaker 3: so if we're not serious about cutting spending and reducing
- 7:19Speaker 3: the size and scope of government, we're not going to
- 7:21Speaker 3: be able to get the America First Agenda done. And
- 7:23Speaker 3: so we're continuing to have those conversations. We're continuing to
- 7:28Speaker 3: get to a place where President Trump will feel comfortable
- 7:31Speaker 3: as well as members of the House. But it's ridiculous
- 7:36Speaker 3: to think that if you give a blank check that
- 7:39Speaker 3: we're going to be able to get these things done.
- 7:41Speaker 3: It's just like putting a setanol lay band aid on
- 7:44Speaker 3: an open wound. It'll make you feel good for a
- 7:47Speaker 3: little bit, but then you're ultimately going to kill the
- 7:49Speaker 3: patient or og in that case.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Kat I've tried to explain to our audience over the
- 7:54Speaker 2: years that this is no different than you and I
- 7:58Speaker 2: when we max out our credit cards and we go
- 8:00Speaker 2: to the bank and the bank says, I'm sorry, you
- 8:03Speaker 2: have to cut the amount you're spending every month. We
- 8:05Speaker 2: can't lend you any more credit. The difference is the
- 8:08Speaker 2: government doesn't ask for to borrow money from us. It
- 8:11Speaker 2: just takes more money, exactly.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And it's common sense. The more money that the government
- 8:18Speaker 3: is spending, it's not monopoly money. This is our money.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Ye Every day, every single dollar that the government spends,
- 8:26Speaker 3: it's coming out of your pocket. And so if you're
- 8:30Speaker 3: truly for an America First policy and you want to
- 8:33Speaker 3: reduce taxes and you want to reduce spending. You have
- 8:37Speaker 3: to cut the debt, and lifting the debt ceiling does
- 8:40Speaker 3: not cut the debt. And when you get in the room,
- 8:42Speaker 3: and I'll tell you, you know, this is some behind
- 8:44Speaker 3: the scenes you know information that was never reported. You know.
- 8:49Speaker 3: We sat there and we pulled out a sheet of
- 8:50Speaker 3: paper and we lifted out five trillion dollars worth of
- 8:54Speaker 3: things that can be cut. And we looked around the
- 8:56Speaker 3: room and Jade Vans was sitting next to me, and
- 8:59Speaker 3: we all kind of look at each other and we said,
- 9:01Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot of pissed off people. And
- 9:04Speaker 3: we all kind of just gave ourselves a glance and
- 9:06Speaker 3: each other a glance, and we said, yeah, but this
- 9:09Speaker 3: is what we have to do. You know, I have
- 9:12Speaker 3: to lose weight. Does that mean that I want to,
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know, stop eating pizza. No, But I'm gonna have
- 9:19Speaker 3: to write like you have to make the difficult decisions.
- 9:22Speaker 3: And if everybody's mad, then that might be an okay thing.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Because if everybody's happy, then the person or the entity
- 9:31Speaker 3: or the organization or in this case, the country that's
- 9:33Speaker 3: losing is America. So everybody's gonna have to give a
- 9:36Speaker 3: little something and I'm talking like these different organizations and associates.
- 9:41Speaker 3: We can cut five trillion dollars. We can do it
- 9:44Speaker 3: and really drain the swamp and take on the regulatory regime.
- 9:47Speaker 3: But it's going to be difficult. It's going to be tough,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and people are gonna have to really think critically about
- 9:51Speaker 3: the long term goal here of getting our country back
- 9:55Speaker 3: on track.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Congress Swiman Camick is going to be on Fox News
- 9:58Speaker 2: in just a few minutes just saying doing the morning
- 10:00Speaker 2: show and then then doing Fox TV.
- 10:05Speaker 1: This makes my heart feel good.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Congressoman, Okay, because we're going to get to visit a
- 10:10Speaker 2: little more often I get a chance to do something
- 10:12Speaker 2: like this. Yeah, Why should the federal government tell me,
- 10:18Speaker 2: as a future retiree when I have to take my money?
- 10:22Speaker 3: They should not.
- 10:24Speaker 2: What has to happen to change that because that fries me.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I'm not planning to retire anytime soon, but they're telling
- 10:31Speaker 2: me I have to start taking my Social Security retirement
- 10:34Speaker 2: by a certain age or else.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Who the heck are they? It's my money, and that
- 10:40Speaker 3: is part of the big problem. Is the thing that
- 10:42Speaker 3: has always just really irritated me is people who refer
- 10:48Speaker 3: to this as an entitlement, as though we haven't paid
- 10:52Speaker 3: into these programs our entire life. Right, it's our money.
- 10:55Speaker 3: The government is supposed to be holding it for us, right, Instead,
- 11:00Speaker 3: they're literally pillaging it and using it as a slush
- 11:03Speaker 3: fund for a lot of their pet projects. And so
- 11:07Speaker 3: there's a lot of reforms that have to be made
- 11:09Speaker 3: to get rid of ways, fraud, abuse, things that we
- 11:13Speaker 3: can do to make these programs solve it because this
- 11:16Speaker 3: is a contract that the government entered into with the
- 11:18Speaker 3: American people, and the government has to honor them. So
- 11:21Speaker 3: first and foremost, we've got to stop calling it entitlement.
- 11:23Speaker 3: It's our damn money. Stop talking about it like it's
- 11:26Speaker 3: a gift. The second thing is we have to have
- 11:29Speaker 3: the hutzpa to actually and I'm talking we and Congress
- 11:33Speaker 3: have to have the hutzpa to actually get in there
- 11:36Speaker 3: and make these reforms. And I think under President Trump,
- 11:39Speaker 3: you're going to have someone who's a willing partner who,
- 11:43Speaker 3: as we all know, he doesn't care what the legacy
- 11:46Speaker 3: media media is going to try to do to him.
- 11:48Speaker 3: He's going to move forward and do what he knows
- 11:50Speaker 3: is right. And so in order to get some of
- 11:53Speaker 3: these programs reformed, which they never get touched because the
- 11:57Speaker 3: minute that you say, hey, we're gonna we're gonna make this.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I remember this so vividly. We were going to introduce
- 12:03Speaker 3: a bill to make it easier to navigate the bureaucratic
- 12:07Speaker 3: mess at Social Security Administration, and just because we said
- 12:11Speaker 3: we were introducing a bill on Social Security, people lost
- 12:14Speaker 3: their ever living minds. I'm like, no, no, we're making
- 12:16Speaker 3: it easier for you to actually get answers from the agency.
- 12:20Speaker 3: We're cutting red tape. And they're like, oh my gosh,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you're doing this. I'm like, you guys aren't thinking critically,
- 12:26Speaker 3: you're not listening. And so we have to have the
- 12:29Speaker 3: political courage and the moral courage to stand up and say, listen,
- 12:34Speaker 3: there are ways that we can make these programs so
- 12:36Speaker 3: much better and reflective of the very lives that the
- 12:38Speaker 3: people who have funded them are living. So it's just
- 12:42Speaker 3: going to take some political courage. And you're one hundred
- 12:44Speaker 3: percent right. It's your damn money. You should be able
- 12:46Speaker 3: to access it when you need it, and it's just
- 12:49Speaker 3: a big mess right now.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Kat other than four hundred and thirty five members of Congress,
- 12:53Speaker 2: of which there are many that sit where you are
- 12:57Speaker 2: in total agreement with what you're saying. As far as
- 12:59Speaker 2: social security. Who in the world would oppose the idea
- 13:05Speaker 2: just grabbing the low hanging fruit of We're going to
- 13:08Speaker 2: allow the citizens to decide when they want to access
- 13:11Speaker 2: that money from the age of whatever sixty two forward.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It's up to them.
- 13:16Speaker 2: If they don't want to touch it, and they want
- 13:17Speaker 2: to give it to their surviving spouse or their kids,
- 13:20Speaker 2: that's up to them. It's no one else's choice. Who
- 13:23Speaker 2: opposes that other than some members of Congress who.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Well, that would be your big government advocates. I mean
- 13:30Speaker 3: that is the people on the left who think that
- 13:32Speaker 3: they know better than you how to spend money and
- 13:36Speaker 3: how to live your life. I mean, these are the
- 13:38Speaker 3: same people that want to tell you what lightbulbs to
- 13:40Speaker 3: buy and what toilets you can buy at home depot,
- 13:43Speaker 3: that require you to have a plumber come in instead
- 13:45Speaker 3: of you installing it yourself. These are the people who
- 13:48Speaker 3: want to make you completely dependent on big government. And
- 13:53Speaker 3: that's always been the agenda the left. It's the tendency
- 13:55Speaker 3: and control, make you dependent on government, tie you up
- 13:57Speaker 3: in so much red tape, sure that you have may
- 14:00Speaker 3: I for anything that is the left in a nutshell.
- 14:03Speaker 3: They don't want you making those types of decisions because
- 14:06Speaker 3: they think they know better than you. That's what we're
- 14:08Speaker 3: trying to break Kat.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I love visiting with you. You just make my day
- 14:13Speaker 1: a better day.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And I appreciate knowing that you're in Congress fighting for us,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and you have a great television hit and just find
- 14:20Speaker 2: a way to sneak my name into it.
- 14:22Speaker 3: I's warm, it's breathing up here, but I know it's
- 14:28Speaker 3: cold back home in Florida it is.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You'd be awesome as always. Thank you so much, Thanks,
- 14:33Speaker 1: thank you talk too all right.
- 14:35Speaker 2: US Congresswoman Kat Camick with us this morning, and literally
- 14:37Speaker 2: she's going to do a television hit as we speak,
- 14:41Speaker 2: So don't leave me. Just add and put Fox News
- 14:47Speaker 2: on twenty seven past the hour. This Morning Show with
- 14:53Speaker 2: Preston Scott
