- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:14Speaker 1: Everybody is Jeff Moser Adam Kaplan, and here we are
- 0:18in the IDEs of August. The Eagles are getting close
- 0:22to their first preseason game. It's gonna be Thursday night
- 0:25against the Cincinnati Bengals. They have had some practices. It is,
- 0:30of course Jeff Mosher here with Adam Kaplan, and we
- 0:33will go through the last three practices, what we've learned,
- 0:36what we know, what we've seen, and then set you
- 0:39up for a pretty big week coming ahead of Inside
- 0:41the Birds Obviously today Monday for those who are listening
- 0:44in the morning, where we have another one. Tuesday, we'll
- 0:46have an inside the Data with Sam Finkel. We had
- 0:49one last week that was really good. We'll have another
- 0:51one this week Wednesday, and then Thursday morning we'll hit
- 0:54you with what to look for in the preseason game
- 0:56against the Bengals, and then of course we'll have Bengals
- 1:00those Bengals preseason wrap up later in the week as well.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So are you ready for a big week? Adam?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah? Man, this is the first full week of preseason.
- 1:06We had an awful Hall of Fame game. My old
- 1:09friend Sterling Sharp got into the Hall of fame. That
- 1:12was quite essential Sterling. If you haven't seen his speech,
- 1:15it was pretty interesting.
- 1:16Speaker 2: He is.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the boy.
- 1:19I work with him two thousand and two. And I mean,
- 1:24you're talking about no offense of Jerry Wright is the
- 1:27best receiver in NFL history. Had he never gotten hurt
- 1:30with the neck injury which ended his career, Sterling probably
- 1:33would have been a better player. Now people would say,
- 1:34there's no way the numbers were better. You have to
- 1:36talk to NFL people. Talk to Mike Hombren, who was
- 1:40a co who obviously was on Mike Shanahan's staff, excuse me,
- 1:44and Bill Walsh's staff. So he knew about Jerry because
- 1:48he was there then, and obviously he coached. He was
- 1:52with Green Bay, so he knows. So it's Sterling, wasn't
- 1:57he was? And the thing is, if you've seen Sterling
- 1:59a close, he's only six feet even, but the biggest
- 2:02hands you've ever seen, yeah, from the strangest hands you've
- 2:04ever seen. And they played as he told me, he
- 2:06played mostly inside. You couldn't cover me.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He's too strong, right, yeah, I mean to your point
- 2:12at him, and I don't know if you remember Shannon's
- 2:14Hall of Fame induction, but in his speech he said,
- 2:17he has to be the only player in the Pro
- 2:19Football Hall of Fame who's not even the best.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Player in his own household.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So that was a real nod too. Just Stirling and
- 2:26how good?
- 2:27Speaker 4: You're right?
- 2:27Speaker 2: He was so good.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It was sort of like the Terrell Davis thing, like
- 2:30so good in such a short amount of time.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Obviously he came before Terrell Davis, but right he was. Yeah,
- 2:37because Sterling Sharp was early nineties.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, well Sterling was done around ninety five
- 2:42and l Davis, I believe it as a first round
- 2:45in ninety six. I said, know what I remember about
- 2:48Charrel Davis is that that the game over Japan when
- 2:52he was on special teams, and Mike Shannon said, if
- 2:55you want to make a team, do what this guy
- 2:57just did. He had an incredible stick tackle on specials.
- 3:00Yeah against the forty nine ers, I think, but yeah,
- 3:03so start Look, obviously Jerry Rice playing to his forty
- 3:05so his numbers probably would have been better overall, but
- 3:08the better player, so Sharp was like uncoverable, like he
- 3:12just was an amazing play, super smart. John Hanson. We
- 3:17were on the Playbook Show, which is a knockoff of
- 3:19the Matchup Show in ESPN, and we did a fantasy
- 3:21segment and got to know him and Salomon Willcotts, Glenn Parker,
- 3:25remember Glenn Parker played for the Chiefs and Giants, but
- 3:29learned so much about football. The storytelling just yeah, Stlie
- 3:33doesn't hold anything back. He tells you what he thinks,
- 3:35learn a lot about football. Really really great situation.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a really unique Hall of Fame class.
- 3:40I mean, you had Antonio Gates, the first player in
- 3:42the history of the game to make the Hall of
- 3:44Fame without playing college football.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But he did play college fourts. He played college basketball and.
- 3:49Speaker 1: He was good, and you know, just watching him become
- 3:51a tight end and the Hall of Fame caliber one
- 3:53of that was was pretty amazing. And I actually watched
- 3:56the Hall of Fame game deep into the third quarter.
- 3:59I must have some sick Seriously, I don't know, but
- 4:04I did well. Yeah, I was like, oh, Comani Fidal,
- 4:06I like, I kind of liked him last year. I
- 4:08thought he might get more involved in the offense. But
- 4:10the running backs actually stayed fairly healthy for the Chargers,
- 4:13and then there were. There are a couple other guys
- 4:14I like seeing. How about my guy former Penn stater. Uh,
- 4:18he transferred to Auburn KeAndre Lambert Smith.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He might be a nice little sleeper. He's got some
- 4:23speed at him.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he scored in that game. And Isaac Tesla, who
- 4:28was a rookie. He had a good game. But I mean,
- 4:30I know receivers coaching game is the third round grade
- 4:33six round gred. He could not believe that that the Lions,
- 4:35I think third Uh. And then uh, Craig Reynolds, who
- 4:39we met at it's from here and went to Bloomsburg.
- 4:41He went to Adamton High YEP near me where I
- 4:44grew up in Cheltenham. There were a rival. Yeah, and
- 4:46then a Marion Hampton, the first round pick for the
- 4:49Chargers played. So that was good. And Trey Lance. It's funny.
- 4:52I forget who it was funny, I forget who posted it,
- 4:55but it's so true. A lot of us probably forgot
- 4:58Trey Lances with the Chargers, so now we know.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely did.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So we'll see, we'll see if this latest iteration of
- 5:04coaching staff for him can make him into it. They
- 5:06were making a big deal over how Harbaugh has been
- 5:10so good with like Kaepernick and other Alex Smith coaches
- 5:13who have mobility and and I'm like, this guy was
- 5:16drafted by the forty nine ers. I mean, there's very
- 5:19few coaches better than Shanahana getting the most out of
- 5:22a quarterback. And then he went and was with the Cowboys, right,
- 5:26wasn't he with?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Uh? Was not not with Kellen Moore? But was Shottenheimer?
- 5:29I guess.
- 5:32Speaker 3: No, No, no, he was with No, he was with
- 5:35well shot well yeah shot he technically.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That was just part of his position coach.
- 5:39Speaker 3: All right, Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:41I'm just saying about calling the plays. It was McCarthy
- 5:43after Kellen, remember he yeah, like Longo and then he
- 5:47Kellen went to San Diego or excuse me, LA with
- 5:49the Chargers. Right, but anyway, Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 2: What is he's been He's been around some pretty good
- 5:53offensive minds.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And yeah, I agree with you. I agree with you.
- 5:57So a couple of things. Yeah, We've actually have Roundtable
- 6:00which will drop Tuesday with Andrew Andrews back with us
- 6:02for Tuesday show. We have our Patreon live chat on
- 6:06Wednesday Discord. But the big thing for Patreon is getting
- 6:10commercial free and get shows earlier in the public, but
- 6:12get commercial free for those of us who pay for
- 6:15subscriptions like myself. I subscribe to a couple of them
- 6:18around the world here, and it is good not to
- 6:20have to listen to commercials. I get that part of it.
- 6:23But that's Patreon Patreon dot com. Sush inside the birds.
- 6:26Speaker 1: All right, great stuff, Adam. Let's start with because we
- 6:29are now I believe eight practices through eight. When I
- 6:32say eight practices, I mean media open. They're practicing no
- 6:35walk I'm not counting the walkthroughs. Eight practices through and
- 6:40we've got some injuries to talk about now. Ben Van
- 6:42Sumarin has been out for a couple and that that
- 6:45was the result of a honestly, probably shouldn't have happened,
- 6:48but Jehad Campbell knocked him to the ground a little
- 6:52bit and he I saw it. I didn't see the
- 6:54actual collision because there were too many bodies, but I
- 6:56saw him get up and start limping off the field
- 6:59and looked great. But I don't think it's gonna be
- 7:03anything really really long term. But he continues to be
- 7:05out with the ankle injury.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he took metal reps on Sunday. I was watching him.
- 7:10This one's disappointing because he has been a very quietly
- 7:13star of like three practice Montreal Johnson, Yeah and directed
- 7:16free agent out of Florida c This is the thing
- 7:18with him. If you're non drafted free agent, you could
- 7:21be lighting up. But if you don't, if you can't
- 7:23get on the fields, particularly for the preseason, it's not impossible.
- 7:27It's very difficult to make the team. So he's got
- 7:29a hamstering injury. He took mental reps. I saw him
- 7:31number thirty four. So what I do is I scan,
- 7:33you know my lineup sheet. Okay, who's not working? Who's working?
- 7:36But what are they actually doing or are they out
- 7:38there watching? What are they doing? Aj? Now we know
- 7:40AJ Brown who didn't work the second half of Friday's practice.
- 7:44He's got a hamster injury. He was out there, he
- 7:46got out there after practice started. Terres Marshall with the knee,
- 7:50Trevor Keagan with a back. When I was watching the
- 7:53drills on Sunday, he was taking metal reps number seventy seven. Well,
- 7:57you gotta call him now not just a guard. He's
- 7:59getting reps set Ye zach Baum with a back contusion.
- 8:03Who was I watched him. He was taking shadow he
- 8:06was he was moving, just taking shadow reps, like just
- 8:09moving around a little bit. Everybody loosen the backup. Lewis
- 8:12cne Now it's got the hamstring. He's a major long
- 8:14shot to make it. I'd be shocked if he made it.
- 8:17He hadn't stood out and.
- 8:19Speaker 1: He had actually gotten some second team reps I think
- 8:22in allday four and then all of yeah, yeah, he hasn't.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Really stood out. Mac McWilliams, who, by the way, you
- 8:28can't just call him a nickel. He's actually got cornerback
- 8:31reps where you have to always remember Vic Fanger was
- 8:33very distinctive with this. Corner is a corner and Nichols
- 8:37the defensive back. They're two different positions. And he's done.
- 8:40He's got reps at both. He's played cornerback. He's got
- 8:43a quadrceps. I saw him out of practice limited DeVante
- 8:46Smith's back from the back tightness. They're not. Now here's
- 8:48the cool thing. He got work immediately and he made
- 8:51plays immediately. And it's funny because I'm like, wait a minute,
- 8:54is that Because you know it's hard when they're wearing
- 8:56the green jerseys. It's hard to see is that eight? Well,
- 8:59can't be eight? Is that guy's on defense? That's the
- 9:02joy Jackson. It's got to be six. And DeVante made
- 9:05some really good place good see e J. Jenkins back
- 9:07out there with a hamsterring at shoe. Charlie Hewlett, their
- 9:10long snapper's got a net issue he got he was
- 9:11limited Noland Smith because he's coming back from concussion. Didn't
- 9:16work very much at all. Barely saw him. John Candell
- 9:19come Ghod Campbell coming back for the label surgery. He's
- 9:23I mean, I if he's if each practice they have
- 9:27forty reps, he's getting thirty of them because he's practicing
- 9:29a lot at least. Like it's funny because they pretty
- 9:34much played with bought out. They play the same two
- 9:36guys with the ones. Yeah, it's Campbell at will and
- 9:41it's Trot Junior as the mic yep and Drew mccooba's
- 9:46back from the shoulder. They're not give him a ton
- 9:47of reps because he's coming back from that shoulder ding.
- 9:51So you gotta be you gotta be careful of that.
- 9:53See here's the problem with I'll be interested to see
- 9:58if Sirianni is willing to answer the this question, are
- 10:01they gonna expose Campbell to preseason because he's coming back
- 10:05from major shoulder surgery, I'd be stuck.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I'd be I'd be pretty shocked. I think I think
- 10:10he'll play in a preseason game. I just don't think
- 10:13it'll be the first one.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. The following week they've got two
- 10:18joint practices versus the Browns. Yep, because clubs look at that.
- 10:22That's why a lot of veterans don't play now, because
- 10:24they've got the pre the the joint practices, and so
- 10:29that that's the everyone else's back the one that's disappointing. Really,
- 10:33it's also Taris Marshall, who's it was. He He was
- 10:36the best backup receiver, and that's It's not a knock
- 10:38going to logic. Cook has been a nice story. But
- 10:40Taris Marshall showed up at every practice, and I like
- 10:42the way if they used him moving him around a
- 10:44little bit. But yeah, he he's just stop working and
- 10:48he's got this knee issue that from last week.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yep, yep.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I'm trying to as we go through these injuries, you know,
- 10:55Blonde's been out for a little bit with that back intusion, but.
- 10:57Speaker 2: He's been out there. Sometimes you don't see guys and
- 11:00they're really hurt.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They're working with trainers inside, so he's and in fact,
- 11:03I think most of these guys have been out there watching,
- 11:06like you said, getting the mental reps. So none of
- 11:08these seem like some really bad You know, I'm speculating
- 11:13a little bit here, but you can tell when you
- 11:16don't see a guy for a couple of days because
- 11:18he's inside.
- 11:18Speaker 2: That he's not even shape. And it doesn't seem like
- 11:21that's the case with too many of these guys here.
- 11:23Speaker 3: No, they're all out there. No. In fact, I'll take
- 11:25this to another level. Typically when they're not out there,
- 11:27they're getting treatment. They're in the training room, Like if
- 11:30it's a knee injury, it might be iced about whatever
- 11:33they used to get the knee going. Yeah, I didn't
- 11:36I didn't see tar Small shout there. He might have
- 11:37been out there, I just didn't see him. And then
- 11:40and aj Brown came. He might have been getting treatment
- 11:42in the Hampshire because he wasn't there at the startup practice,
- 11:44but he was there shortly after wearing a sweatshirt then
- 11:46he took it off. You know I noticed this this
- 11:48meaningless stuff, don't but yeah, I just looked at my
- 11:51notes here and I'm like, okay, you know, I have
- 11:53like three pages of notes of afformations and there's something
- 11:57that I noticed. I knew this is. I saw it
- 11:59last week. I forgot to mention it. When we get
- 12:02to what we saw, what we've seen through eight practice
- 12:04and we move we move stuff along. We'll talk about
- 12:06a couple of minutes. But transactional wise, Danny Gray, as
- 12:10I expected to happen, was waived off IR with the
- 12:12injury settlement, as was Marcus Tate, who's come back from
- 12:15a major knee injury from college at Clemson. And you're
- 12:17not going to pay a guy when you're on IR,
- 12:20you get paid, Like if he was on IR during
- 12:22the season, Ady Gray would get paid. They're not going
- 12:24to be obviously not gonna pay because he's not going
- 12:25to contribute. So but with injury settlements, you could come
- 12:28back in around two months. It's whatever the settlement in
- 12:32terms of time has to elapse. It's what the agreement
- 12:34is between the agent and the club and what the
- 12:37doctor gets. How long they say he's going to come back,
- 12:40so it's typically around two months, depending on the severity
- 12:43of it. So it's a shame, man. He I know,
- 12:46he talked a big game and he had a really
- 12:47good off season, but just unfortunately he's didn't contribute with
- 12:51the Niners really because he was hurt.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Also, Yeah, yeah, I hope, you know, for for his sake,
- 12:55you hope that he heals up quickly and then can
- 12:57come back and then sort of prove himself.
- 12:59Speaker 2: You can still prove yourself like.
- 13:01Speaker 1: He did last year on the scout team in practice
- 13:03and if injuries happened or if there's a spot that opens,
- 13:06you can still claim it.
- 13:07Speaker 2: It just would have been.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Nice to see him get the entirety of training camp
- 13:10and not be injured to show that sure.
- 13:13Speaker 2: All right, you had some workouts, right you noticed?
- 13:16Speaker 3: Yeah, here are the four workouts they've had since the
- 13:18start a camp. Colton Dowell Colton Dowe is a tall
- 13:21receiver just under six to three. He was drafted by
- 13:23the Titans of the seventh round a couple of years ago.
- 13:25He did an aco injury two years ago, so this
- 13:29is the kind of guy you want to work out
- 13:30because he was a drafted player. Then two out of
- 13:33three defensive tackles they signed, one is Joe Evans. Joe
- 13:39Evans was let's see, was he an undrafted free agent
- 13:43this year? Yes, at a UTSA. I was with the
- 13:47Colts in their off season program. Then cut. And then
- 13:51Jacob Sykes, who I did see him on Sunday wearing
- 13:55ninety seat. It's funny. He had an interesting body types,
- 14:00so I'm like, wait, is he I had to look
- 14:01at my lineup sheet. I'm like, oh wow, because he's
- 14:04six two and a half and under two ninety right,
- 14:06so I'm like, okay, he's one of those tweeners. So
- 14:10he's he's lining. He did line up. He's a little
- 14:12bit older. He actually has been the league since twenty three.
- 14:15He was he was signing as a undrafted free agent
- 14:18by the Seahawks in twenty twenty three, but he had
- 14:21bounced around. I believe he was in the UFL or
- 14:26whatever they call it, the USF. I don't know how
- 14:27they call the USFL. But the Eagle sign him right
- 14:31to start a camp and that's it so far.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and the other guy, Evans is completely opposite. He
- 14:35is like three hundred and thirty seven powder he's a
- 14:38big dude. He's like a nose tackle type if if
- 14:42you can compare it by size, Yeah, yeah, I've been
- 14:45six seven.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's it's it's funny because he's wearing sixty one. Immediately,
- 14:52who do I think of? Who is the who is
- 14:55the center that the Eagles signed from? And he turned
- 14:57out to be a bust freagent guy, the long blonde
- 15:00hair from Michigan.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Christy No, no, no, no, he was.
- 15:05Speaker 3: With the he was with He's sign a big free
- 15:07agent deal.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Steve.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Oh. I could see him in front of me, long
- 15:11blonde hair, looked like.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the nineties, right, No, it would.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Have been early in Andy's career. You're in the right timeframe.
- 15:20I think it was like everybody everyone's saying this, says, hey, listen, dude,
- 15:24it's Stevett, Steve Everett, Everett. You got it good? Yeah,
- 15:27y y y yeah yeah yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah. He was a straight up dude.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Though. He was a straight up dude like he uh he.
- 15:34I remember he was really good with the media, but
- 15:36he just was not quite what they thought when they.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Got that's true, all right, good stuff.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Uh So those are the transactions and workouts and things
- 15:44like that, let's get through what we know now after
- 15:47this is really the second week of practice. We just
- 15:49had the first I'm sorry, second full week of practice.
- 15:52Speaker 3: That the first full week. The first week was only
- 15:54three days, this was five.
- 15:57Speaker 2: This week. No, this past week though, was the first. Yes,
- 16:00the first, that's what I meant.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm meaning this one we're going into now
- 16:03is just gonna be is gonna be the second week,
- 16:06second full week of practice, although I guess it's not
- 16:09really fool because.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They have for the preseason games right correct, because they Wednesday.
- 16:13Speaker 3: The way it works is today, Today's practice will be normal.
- 16:16Tuesdays will be light like a Friday practice. Wednesdays will
- 16:19walk through. Thursdays of the game, they can't practice, Yeah,
- 16:22they can't practice Friday. By rule, you can't practice the
- 16:25day after, although Chip Kelly would try it. Yeah uh
- 16:30so yeah, yeah. So this is this past week. They
- 16:32had five practices plus the walk through the one day
- 16:35off on Saturday. It was beautiful on Sunday, I'll say,
- 16:38and so is Saturday. But so here's what we do
- 16:41know for Like I, as I said last week, let's
- 16:43wait till we get through the first full week before
- 16:45we start making proclamations. We could definitely make some proclamations.
- 16:49They know who they're starting. Eleven is on offense.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That's not yeah, and like that. That's to the point.
- 16:54Tyler Stein is one. I mean, it's not even a secret.
- 16:57Tyler Steen is the right guard. Jeff Staltlin is talking
- 17:00about how impressed he is. Jordan Davison, Jial and Carter
- 17:03have talked about how how impressive Tyler Steen has been. So,
- 17:07I mean, he's been the first team right guard. There's
- 17:09no injuries, he's not losing it, there's nobody pushing him
- 17:11per se. So he is you know, your first week
- 17:15one Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys, Tyler Steen will
- 17:19be starting at right guard, barring any injury between now
- 17:21and then.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Correct. Yeah, well it's funny you say that. Here's here's
- 17:26my question. Let me throw this back at you. What
- 17:28do you think they would do if Stein got hurt
- 17:30for two weeks? And who do you think would run
- 17:32with ones?
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's a great freaking question.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think if they had to put a right guard
- 17:36in right now, it will probably be Matt Pryor.
- 17:39Speaker 3: That's where he's going to go. It's not Drew Kendall.
- 17:42I haven't seen him a guard at all.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Cadart's got some work in there, but Prior's ahead
- 17:48of him, and Prior's got positions for versatility.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm starting to wonder, Well, when we get
- 17:54to offensive line, I'll talk about this.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I think that there might be doing something a little
- 17:57differently this year, and we'll get into that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But yeah, as of now, it would be Tyler Steen
- 18:02and looks like next man up would be Matt Pryor.
- 18:04Speaker 2: So yep, running back.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You know, I think we're far enough along now where
- 18:10we can at least be pleased with aj Dillon's practices.
- 18:15He's not been hurt, and I think he was on
- 18:17the he had a back for one day or something
- 18:19like that, but basically he's been fine and giving him
- 18:22the ball, I'm seeing him run.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I think he actually looks like he's got some good
- 18:26juice for guys his size. For his size, he's not
- 18:29like Will Shipley or anything, but no, he's moving well.
- 18:33When I say juice.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I saw one play where he kind of did a
- 18:35cut back and got skinny through a hole, so I
- 18:38was I was impressed.
- 18:39Speaker 2: With that, and that's good.
- 18:40Speaker 1: We wanted to see at this point Adam if he
- 18:43was still practicing and the neck was holding up and
- 18:46everything like that.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it is, but it's funny. See, you can't if
- 18:51you know what's from going to practice when you when
- 18:53the practices on the Let's say, like I stood on Sunday,
- 18:57I was behind one of the I was behind the
- 18:58goalposts right in front of the you know the stands
- 19:02that are in the back where, and he wouldn't let
- 19:03anyone sit or put their hand on the rail. And
- 19:06I get screamed at, hey, get your hand off that rail. Yeah,
- 19:08now everybody's on it. But yeah, they want people to sit.
- 19:11It's funny because they don't want to block use. But anyway,
- 19:15so I couldn't quite see that it's either twenty six
- 19:18or twenty nine. Mike, Yeah, I know who it is.
- 19:20Look at the thighs, the quads, Zilla, Yeah, it's obvious
- 19:24because and also Barkley Dylan had the the he had
- 19:28his the the pants higher where Barkley hatt was wearing.
- 19:35I don't know what he was wearing underneath him, but
- 19:36you could you could see that. But the big thing
- 19:38is that Dylan's quads are huge. So but and obviously
- 19:42the way that they move. It's funny because when I
- 19:45was watching Goddard and Harrison Bryant because it's eighty five
- 19:48and eighty, and I go, I know that's Goddard because
- 19:49the way he's moving. Yeah, it's not even close. No
- 19:51offense to Harrison Bryant, but Goddard, we'll get the tight end.
- 19:55You just I know he can't get the ball out
- 19:57because Brown and Smith are going to lead them. But
- 19:59my guy, there's second straight cannon training camp. I've never
- 20:02seen anyone cover rather than Rego made it. Made it.
- 20:05We'll talk about later. Ringo made a nice play. But
- 20:07there's you need to know the background on it. But
- 20:10it's just kind of funny because it's it's it's if
- 20:14they didn't have Brown or Smith, he's an eighty catch,
- 20:17easy eighty even. You know, even if it only plays
- 20:20four games, I mean fourteen games, it's gonna average five
- 20:23catches a game if if they if one of them
- 20:25couldn't play the season. That's the way it is.
- 20:27Speaker 2: That about it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: So I guess with the running backs to put a
- 20:31ball on that. I mean, if things continue along this trajectory, Adam,
- 20:34it would be all I think all three are fine
- 20:37for the fifty three, that's obviously Saquan, it's obviously Will
- 20:39Shampley and still in and and they'll just I asked
- 20:43Jamal Singleton about if they if they he felt they
- 20:46needed someone one person to take on that Kenny Gainwell role,
- 20:52and he said, as long as you have multiple backs
- 20:55who can do different things, you can you can work around.
- 20:58Speaker 2: You don't need a carbon copy.
- 20:59Speaker 1: But he say he felt Will Shipley's pass protection had
- 21:02come along well and he catches the ball well, so
- 21:04that would be.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Ideally that's a guy who can probably fill that role better.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And then Dylan serves that, as you've talked about many times,
- 21:12and I think you're right about this is you're the closer.
- 21:15Speaker 2: You're up by seven, you're up by ten or a
- 21:17lot more.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Now.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well that's what John G.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Filippo told me. He said, it's got to be more
- 21:23than two touchdowns and then you could pull the starter out.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you wouldn't want to take say Kwon Barkley out
- 21:27if you're.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Like, can you imaginef it's only ten points. No, you've
- 21:29got to be more than two touchdowns. It could be
- 21:31sixteen seventeen. I just happened to ask him, I said,
- 21:35what's your role thumb I because I've never really configure
- 21:37I can never quite figure it out. Because you want
- 21:39to be up by more and two touchdowns and you
- 21:40can pull the starters out, well you're running back if
- 21:42you want to protect them. He'd be smart about it.
- 21:44But I would say with this, I'm not. I know
- 21:48Dylan has taken more of the twos. That's definitely the case.
- 21:51But you mentioned it earlier when you were talking about Dylan.
- 21:55When you see the difference between Shipley and Dylan, Dylan's
- 21:58got the juice. Dylan doesn't have any Shipley cuts. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:02it's and oh. Situationally, on Sunny's practice, Barkley was the
- 22:06hurry up for just about everything that I saw, because
- 22:10because Sirianni would take the bullhorn all right, very calmly,
- 22:14three minutes left, started to twenty, you know whatever, and
- 22:19whatever else he said. But clearly Barkley was in a
- 22:22lot of it. Like I know Shipley I saw last
- 22:25week or a couple of practices, he was a little
- 22:27bit of the hurry up, particular in the twenty inside
- 22:29of the twenty Situationally, Dylan, there's no way he's in
- 22:33no way, so something to watch, That's what I mean.
- 22:38How there could be different roles if you're trying to
- 22:41figure out for fantasy people know who's the main backup.
- 22:44I the one thing I questioned with Shipley is what
- 22:46the scouts question people who work for NFL team's question.
- 22:50Shipley is not really a volume back, though it might
- 22:53say he's two twelve. He doesn't play to his list's size.
- 22:56That's a that's a scouting term. He does not, he's
- 22:59he he's small on the backside. He's just not built
- 23:02like Dylan. Not that anyone is, but you get my point.
- 23:04Not built like Barkley, you know what I mean. Montreal
- 23:06Johnson is bigger physically by the way. Yeah, yes, yes,
- 23:10not wait, I'm talking about frame folks. You understand that. Yeah,
- 23:13don't seem to get it.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So that's the running back situation at wide receiver. I mean,
- 23:19I don't know if this has stuck out to you.
- 23:20Speaker 2: In the game.
- 23:21Speaker 1: The days I've been there, they've played a lot of
- 23:22twelve personnel. That was so even with Devonte Smith back,
- 23:27they're still playing a lot of twelve.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Well it's interesting, right, but when they go eleven, there
- 23:33are two things I noticed. In fact, they did something
- 23:35with twenty one with Fan Suermern. I'll mention in a minute.
- 23:37But when they went to twelve, it's yes, well Smith
- 23:41was really not practicing, so it was Brown and Dotson,
- 23:45and then it was dots. It was Brown and Marshall
- 23:48because Marshall's ahead of Cooks and Wilson. And then when
- 23:52they went till when they went to eleven, it was Brown,
- 23:55Dotson and Annias as the slot received Dodson's the Z,
- 24:02Browns the X, and Marshall's a backup X. And then
- 24:06what they also did was Smith back on Sunday, which
- 24:08is interesting. Well, it's funny both Smith's out there. They
- 24:11had Smith. I can't it wasn't even I didn't mark
- 24:14down where there was a Z. But Smith a nice
- 24:16Smith was reduced as an outside receiver. You can't play
- 24:21him on wide splits. You just he's just not gonna win, right,
- 24:24And that's that's why he was draft in the fifth round.
- 24:27But what they did is it's interesting, this is a
- 24:30really cool formation. They had Barkley lineup in the slot,
- 24:34Smith as the reduced receiver, and they run. They ran
- 24:39both across the middle and Barkley had a nice catch
- 24:43and see the traffic with Smith and Barkley come over
- 24:45the middle to put who do you cover? Yeah, it's
- 24:48just you don't really see that. So I thought that
- 24:50was interesting for me.
- 24:51Speaker 1: That doesn't that feel like the carryover that they've kept
- 24:54from Kellen is that they when I've been there, they've
- 24:56played a ton of reduced split alignments. You just don't
- 24:58see a whole lot of guys flanked out wide. They're
- 25:01usually tighter to line of scrimmage, and they're running those
- 25:03crossing routes and they're running those rubs on the left
- 25:06or the right side.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Good.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I was gonna say, that's predominantly what I've seen, more
- 25:12so than your typical like three by one or two
- 25:16by two Star.
- 25:18Speaker 3: By the way, twenty twenty three, they were so wide
- 25:20with their receivers and Doug was late. Doug was late
- 25:24in his career at tenure with the Eagles. Ye, you
- 25:27gotta have guys you could win on the outside. You're
- 25:29gonna play wide splits like you definitely, you know that's
- 25:33you gotta be careful. Why do you think Sean McVay
- 25:36reduces his receivers because they can't win on the outside,
- 25:38true outside. Now he might do with Devanta Adams. Devantae
- 25:41could win that on the one playing wide, but you know,
- 25:44Cup could win if you play him. It's really hard
- 25:48in man coverage to to to press a guy when
- 25:51they play inside right. It's really hard, yep.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And then you give them a little more. You give them.
- 25:56Speaker 1: You create traffic with the rubs and with the crossing routes,
- 25:59and if you have guys who can catch the ball
- 26:00and get up field like Nikua does really well and
- 26:03make contested catches even in windows, then that's.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Works to your advantage.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So it does look like in the offense, I've seen
- 26:10that that's what I'm seeing a lot of this year
- 26:12in training camp.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Again, could be it's not that different.
- 26:16Speaker 1: They did that a lot last year, but it seems
- 26:18like it's something that they're trying to carry over and
- 26:19keep in the offense.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah, they did some twenty one personnel before Van Sumer
- 26:23got hurt with him and Barclay, him and Shipley and
- 26:27him and Dylan. And when you do that, you go
- 26:30in two backs, you know, two tight ends and one receiver.
- 26:34You know, however you want to or twenty two personnel
- 26:36is the other thing which I just mentioned, But the
- 26:40twenty one personnel is what the The Niners do a
- 26:43ton with Kyle Uschek and with McCaffrey, because you want
- 26:47to have two backs in there, and it works. But
- 26:51the difference is you Shuck doesn't really catch the ball
- 26:53as much as you would think. I'm surprised you eat well.
- 26:56Obviously McAffrey he's not gonna catch the ball a lot,
- 26:58but east Chuck was a tremendous athlete come out of Harvard,
- 27:02but he's too short to play tight end. So I
- 27:05give them credit. It worked at moving them to full back.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Let me ask you this about tight end.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Were you the one that when we did the pre
- 27:13roster fifty three man at one point just kept too.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Either you or Andrew did just I don't know either way.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I think I feel like if the Eagles had to
- 27:23make their fifty three right now, knowing that, what you
- 27:25can do on the practice squad to keep guy, I'm
- 27:28not sure anybody at tight end other than Goddard and
- 27:30Calcutara make it because and again we're early. I'm not
- 27:33making any declarative sentences. We're just saying through this point
- 27:36in training camp just haven't seen much from Kylie. Granton's
- 27:42shown me a little bit, but he had a bad
- 27:43end zone drop. But it's not like he's getting open
- 27:45left and right either.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Bryant. I barely see catching passes.
- 27:48Speaker 3: EJ.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Jenkins has been injured, Like there's just not you know,
- 27:51they have all these tight ends that we talked about,
- 27:53but the guy's catching passes are the same two guys
- 27:57we've scene for the last three years.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Nick Mumes is out there, Harrison Bryan isn't. Now, I'll
- 28:04say this about Harrison Bryant. He's got three preseason games
- 28:07to try to earn a roster spot. But the bottom
- 28:09line is Calculatar is still ahead. I'm a little surprised
- 28:12no one's pushed him yet. Now again, we've got the
- 28:14rest of training camp, pre preseason games, then post training camp,
- 28:18the two weeks leading up to the season when sometimes
- 28:20guys take a step that the media doesn't get to
- 28:22see when they're not allowed in. But I do expect
- 28:26to the twenty one personnel, two bats, the two receivers
- 28:29on one tight end. Twenty one you'll see that. Twenty
- 28:32two you're going to see two as well. Because you
- 28:36just mentioned it. They could keep the two tight ends
- 28:38and have one or two in the practice squad, which
- 28:40is all which is gonna happen. They'll have at least one,
- 28:42if not two.
- 28:43Speaker 2: So that's that alright, real quick.
- 28:45Speaker 1: On the one wide receiver we didn't talk about yet,
- 28:48and that's Elijah Woods who continues to make Plase cooks,
- 28:51Elijah cooks, I'm sorry. In training camp, big receiver comes
- 28:56down with the ball, started to run a little bit
- 28:57with the twos. Obviously, some of that is because they've
- 29:00been they've had you know, Marshall out and DeVante out,
- 29:03so it helps.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But he actually he deserves the opportunity. He's making some plays.
- 29:08What what's your read on that right now?
- 29:10Speaker 3: So his knock from what I understand is that he
- 29:14is trouble separating. Oh that's that was his problem. He
- 29:16ran in the four four five's when he was signed
- 29:20a center track for agent by the Jaguars. Right. But
- 29:23and but here's what I love about this guy. His
- 29:26effort is clear and he look, he gets he knows it.
- 29:31When you're an hundred, when you're a guy that's now
- 29:33on a second team and you've been cut before, you
- 29:35got to bring it. And he's bringing it and he's
- 29:39showing up and he makes more plays than Johnny Wilson does.
- 29:43And that's the bottom line. Johnny Wilson is off scholarship.
- 29:46He's he Now he's got to he's got to earn
- 29:48this rushers. But you can't make the rosters because you
- 29:50can block. Yep, we know they're running team. But log
- 29:54of cooks out beerformed him. So we'll see what happens.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm starting to get some Hank Basket vibes from
- 29:58mister miss knock catches and you know, now he doesn't separate,
- 30:05but he can he can out jump.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I would say Hank Basket was the biggest surprise that
- 30:14I've ever seen a receiver.
- 30:16Speaker 1: He made like he made like five catches a practice.
- 30:20Speaker 3: It was one of these like is this ever gonna stop? No,
- 30:24But what happens is because it's Triple A, it's not
- 30:26the majors. Majors don't start till they don't start all
- 30:29the regular season. He just became he became a blow
- 30:32average player once the regular season started. That's why you
- 30:35got to take it for what it is. Yep, there's
- 30:37zero guarantee you guys can do it in the regular season.
- 30:39He couldn't do it.
- 30:41Speaker 1: There you go, all right, We'll continue to like kind
- 30:43of monitor. We'll see how he does in the preseason.
- 30:45I think it's gonna be no matter what he does,
- 30:47it's gonna be tough for him to make the fifty.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I'm not much special teams. He's going to be.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Yes, they both have to prove it on there. Godard
- 30:55uh Ringo dig deflec one. But see the pass. It
- 30:59was a it's right in front of me. Ringo deflected. Really,
- 31:03he just reached over with his left hand easily. But
- 31:06the pass should have been farther out from Hurtz out here. Now,
- 31:09that's anticipation throw. It's just got to be you know
- 31:12what the route is the quarterback, it's got to be
- 31:14out here. That's the stuff that reporters don't look for.
- 31:16That's stuff I've been taught by for coaches for years.
- 31:19Look at where the pass ended up. Then it'll give
- 31:21you the answers to the test and why it was deflected.
- 31:24Almost always it's that's the reason. Why. Now could a
- 31:27guy get there late? Sometimes? Sure, but this has had
- 31:30nothing do with lateness. Just had to be out there
- 31:32a little bit. But I love the way that Goddard
- 31:35through the scene is uncoverable. In fact, out like Ringo
- 31:38made to play on him. But other than that, no
- 31:39one's covered him. I mean, honestly, he's just he's he
- 31:41kind of toys in the defense. It's like, at some point,
- 31:43will you guys get physical with him, take him off
- 31:45his route?
- 31:45Speaker 2: And he's had a great camp. He's really good, crazy
- 31:49all right.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Last thing on the offensive line, I'm wondering this because
- 31:53mostly what.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I've seen is Kendall Lamb running with the.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Two's that left tackle I've seen running with the two
- 32:01is on the right side, And I'm just I'm starting
- 32:03to wonder because of what they have here, you know,
- 32:08do they do they feel like maybe they don't need
- 32:10a swing tackle like they had at Fred Johnson, Meaning
- 32:12like if a left tackle gets hurt, did they just
- 32:15play Kendall Lambat left tackle for right tackle gets hurt.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Did they just play Canard or Matt pryor there. I
- 32:20wonder if they just don't view.
- 32:22Speaker 1: These guys yet as having the optionality that they have
- 32:25with Fred Johnson, so that they just they just used
- 32:28one or the other might be.
- 32:30Speaker 3: I mean, Miles sentence just not ready. He's not ready.
- 32:32To be the swing tackle, which he probably will be
- 32:34in a year or two, maybe the swing tackle kenn
- 32:37Of Lambs on a one year deal. Yeah, and we didn't.
- 32:40I haven't really seen him. Did you see him playing tackle,
- 32:44Matt Pryor, I.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Forgot, Yes, I saw him play some right tackle because
- 32:48Lane john the last practice I was at, Lane Johnson
- 32:50got like a couple of player him and Dickerson.
- 32:53Speaker 2: We're just getting plays off like sort of like maintenance stuff.
- 32:56Speaker 1: And so there was one point where the right guard
- 32:59was seen, the left guard was Toath, the center was Jurgens,
- 33:05and the right tackle was Prior.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Okay, that's curious.
- 33:09Speaker 2: So that and that's that's when I saw.
- 33:12Speaker 1: That is kind of when I wondered if maybe they're
- 33:14less inclined to have a quote unquote swing, if they
- 33:16don't feel like either of those guys and just happen.
- 33:18Speaker 3: I never thought that's a very fair point. That that
- 33:21you got me thinking that that's what we'll be looking
- 33:23for when we when we go back.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But that's that, Yeah, all right, so that is our offense.
- 33:29Of course, you know, we'll have a ton of stuff
- 33:31more coming in the coming.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Days and weeks. We'll go to the defensive.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Second, first, you've got to hear a word from our
- 33:37great friends at sky Motor Cars.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Sky motor Cars, and we guess it was a different

- 34:35You could actually order a car online.
- 34:36Speaker 2: You can and you will be one satisfied with it.
- 34:41All right.
- 34:41Speaker 1: The defense man, we've been talking d line a lot, uh,
- 34:45and I'm observing and clearly Morojomo is a guy that
- 34:50we you know again, he's he's got some really good
- 34:55skill set. His long arms, to me, are a real asset.
- 34:57The way he uses his hands, good feet. I mean,
- 35:01he really can step in there and be a good player.
- 35:04But I also have noticed, I think you have two
- 35:06that looks like those those two second year guys who
- 35:09came over last year in different ways, Gabe Hall and
- 35:13Byron Young.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Yeah, there's some opera.
- 35:15Speaker 2: They're getting some opportunities here to show themselves.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Yeah, Byron Young got work with the twos on Sunday.
- 35:20Gabe Hall is getting some work with the twos and threes.
- 35:23Moro Joma, I got to some sums. I'm just gonna
- 35:25use it because I think this is the best way
- 35:27to look at Maro Jomer number ninety seven. Why he's
- 35:29so good, he's super slippery. He just has away because
- 35:34he's long as the the lineman will try like in
- 35:37this case, he's lining a lot. He's he's lining over
- 35:41Stein quite a bit, not all the time, but a
- 35:42lot over stein Stein doesn't you got it with Dujoma
- 35:46because he's got long arms. You've got to get him
- 35:48before he gets gets past you. He's just slippery. H
- 35:51He's got great that great first step at the edge.
- 35:55It's interesting. I would, I would, I wasn't totally charting it.
- 35:59I know that Oje technically got the first snap, but
- 36:02got a got more snaps with the ones than Oji
- 36:05on Sunday, particularly over the last three or four practice,
- 36:09it seems like is ahead of where Ojeli got all
- 36:14the work with the twos, Like he not all, but
- 36:16he got a majority of them the twoes the first
- 36:17three days. That's why we say we don't make any
- 36:19statements about after the first week of practice or first
- 36:22three days, which is the first week of practice, because
- 36:24they they started late, because you need you need time.
- 36:27You got to see how there's still on the when
- 36:29we get to the secondary, there's still a lot of
- 36:32there's still a lot of working and other guys in
- 36:34the secondary. But you know what I did see Sunday,
- 36:37I saw twice where they shifted the defensive line late
- 36:39in snap. Okay, pretty cool, Where like Hunt right like
- 36:46right before the snap, Hunt moved and the detackle moved.
- 36:50Was there a motion I can't remember.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I just see a ton of motion. That's I you know,
- 36:55I've been talking about that with Andrew and you that
- 36:58I've seen not like Shanna hand style motion where there's
- 37:01multiple moving parts, but a lot of tight end motion,
- 37:03a lot of running back motion pre snap, where do
- 37:06you just have a guy crossing the line of scrimmage
- 37:08and that's usually where the defensive line will shift, but
- 37:10not always.
- 37:11Speaker 3: It was cool. I saw a couple of that, So
- 37:14that's kind of where it is.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Well, let me let me ask you this because I
- 37:18have a slight concern that I'm not trying to make
- 37:20a big deal of. But like it was around this
- 37:22time last year, like when you're you're full, you're about
- 37:27eight practices in, you got a preseason game coming up.
- 37:29It was around this time last year where all of
- 37:32us seemed to observe like that it just didn't seem
- 37:35like Bryce Huff was visible enough like making an impact. Yeah,
- 37:39and as we sit here today, I cannot outside of
- 37:43a little bit of ouch flashes here and there, Jelex
- 37:46Hunt here and there. I mean, obviously Nolan Smith was
- 37:48out a little bit of the cussion. But I just
- 37:50haven't really seen a whole lot of edge rush as
- 37:53a group, as a unit, as an individual. And I'm wondering,
- 37:57at what point do we get to that point where
- 37:59we say this might be a little bit of.
- 38:01Speaker 3: A concern, you mean it overall the group?
- 38:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 38:04Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I said, a little flash of Jaylex Hunt
- 38:08a little bit earlier in camp, I've seen a little
- 38:10bit of not like a time nothing.
- 38:12Speaker 2: To be honest, looks.
- 38:15Speaker 3: No, looks pretty good. Yeah, he he moves, he's he
- 38:19moves what not. I know he hadn't done anything for
- 38:21two years. Ojli he's high hipped. If you watch him,
- 38:24the way his body is so Ojan Laurie and were
- 38:30on special teams watching them run down field. Oj Lari
- 38:33has got weird movement because of the way his body
- 38:36type is. I have no idea how good he is
- 38:38on special teams. But and a conchro is running with
- 38:42the third team mostly sprinkle down the second team and
- 38:46pal Ryland's ways away from contribute. He'll be I'm sure
- 38:48he'll be on the team because he was drafted in
- 38:49six round.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 3: And Patrick Johnson, he and o'shawn mathis you get worked
- 38:55in again. Depth, as we said for eight years, is
- 38:57not about how many players you have. It's about the
- 38:58quality of the player. And I think it's fair, like, no,
- 39:03you don't need to have an elite edge rusher to
- 39:05have a really good group that that's not necessary, but
- 39:07it would be nice to have. You just have to
- 39:09have a couple of guys are good. I'm not sure
- 39:11how good of an edge rusher, just.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Not that that's a good point.
- 39:15Speaker 1: And he is admitted he's working on a lot of
- 39:17things like hand usage. Now there's tape on him. Uh
- 39:20so people know what his strengths are right.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Now and knows his weaknesses are.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So and again this we're early, but it's fair because
- 39:27we brought it up last year about Bryce Hoff it
- 39:29turned out to be right, and I haven't I've seen
- 39:31nothing from Oli yet. Now I know he's a good player,
- 39:34so I'm not worried about it. It's not like I
- 39:36think it is all a suddenly going to go and
- 39:38not be a good pass rusher.
- 39:40Speaker 2: He can win one on ones.
- 39:41Speaker 1: But as I'm not looking at one individual, I'm just
- 39:44looking as a whole and saying, yeah, I.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Don't feel like the quarterback is fedge pressure of this camp.
- 39:48Speaker 3: So I would agree with you. Now there have been
- 39:51some where like if the first three days the offense
- 39:54was way ahead of the defense, and the defense kind
- 39:56of it's taken over to a degree.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Yep.
- 39:58Speaker 3: And obviously a j Brown out pract cause saying DeVante
- 40:00Smith not practice it doesn't help, Yep, that's a big deal.
- 40:05But yeah, I would say the d line is really good,
- 40:08like in terms of the Ojomo Davis, Davis slim down,
- 40:12he looks better. Carter got work with a lot of
- 40:15work on Sunday. That was good to see. Probably we
- 40:18met Byron Young and gave Hall's finally coming on. But
- 40:21they Now I would also caution Nold Smith did not
- 40:24do well in the training camp, didn't do well in
- 40:26the preseason. We would laugh when he played against Baltimore, like,
- 40:28oh my god, why is the starter playing in the
- 40:30preseason Old Smith tape? As Greg co Sol told us
- 40:34when we got notes from Greg Is that Smith could
- 40:37win against backups, We're like, oh my god, what like
- 40:40are they gonna get this wrong? And then he did
- 40:43something like you don't normally see this a guy all
- 40:45of a sudden shows up like four or five games
- 40:48in the regular season. Wow, where the hell's has been
- 40:50for a year and a half? Right, you never know,
- 40:52never know, never know?
- 40:54Speaker 1: I think, yeah, we talked about the linebackers already with
- 40:56Campbell is playing the will and Trotter is playing them like.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Mondon has been getting in there. I like Mandane's athleticism.
- 41:03I like his instinct. He honestly sort of blends.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Trotter and Campbell, Whereas Trotter is not the great athlete,
- 41:10but he's played the position.
- 41:11Speaker 2: For a while. Campbell is only new to the position
- 41:14for a couple of years, but as a great.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Athlete, where Mandan has played the position and is a
- 41:19good athlete, and he kind of blends both. So I
- 41:22know you remember you always talk about how in twenty
- 41:24seventeen you you promised people the Eagles would not be
- 41:27embarrassing anymore seventeen I'm sorry, twenty twenty three, I mean right, No,
- 41:33twenty twenty two when they went to the Super Bowl.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yes, that was the linebacker, right yeah, with t J. Edwards,
- 41:38And you have a good memory. I do remember it
- 41:39because we were at training camp. I'm like, I can't
- 41:42believe it. They actually might be a competitive linebacker.
- 41:44Speaker 2: This is back news.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and I feel I feel pretty good that this
- 41:48might be the And again, take this with a grain
- 41:51of salt, because we're talking about the Eagles maybe the
- 41:53best overall collection of stack linebackers they've had in quite
- 41:58a bit. I'm not saying they're they're In fact, I'm
- 42:00not saying that you can't find holes in their game
- 42:03and they you won't be able to throw on them
- 42:05or anything. I'm not saying anything other than there's really
- 42:07good athleticism, there's good instincts, there's good understanding of the position.
- 42:11Speaker 2: We didn't even talk about Zach Bond being part of that.
- 42:13Speaker 1: He's an All Pro. It just feels like this is
- 42:15their deepest and most talented set of stack linebackers in
- 42:19a while. But that's also a low bar for the Eagles.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but the low bar's gone. It's really star with TJ.
- 42:28Edwards rise, you know. Yeah, there's an intrector free agent
- 42:32and Bond and Nakobe before he got hurt, was borderline
- 42:36pro bowler. Bond was, as you said, was our first
- 42:38game All Pro trot, as we've noted before, did very
- 42:42well in practice last season. Campbell's got a chance to
- 42:45be stud Now he's just got a this is he's
- 42:47relatively new to inside backers, so he's got to learn it.
- 42:50Mondon was telling a guy, so boy that Lance Dixon
- 42:53could Lance Sicks and Lance Dickson number forty one, Mason plays.
- 42:57Speaker 2: He's a pretty good athlete.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a little older because he bounced around from
- 43:01school to school. Right, Yeah, I agree, they're they're really loaded.
- 43:05They have enough guys right now, even without Bond, They've
- 43:08just enough to be able to field three teams.
- 43:11Speaker 2: There you go, all.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Right, let's go to the secondary. The practice you were
- 43:14at on Sunday. Who took the first team reps? Between
- 43:18who started off on the first team Ringo or was.
- 43:20Speaker 3: It Dorry Derry took a majority of them and Dory
- 43:23Jackson Debrie eight?
- 43:24Speaker 2: Okay, Ringo.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I think the day before this is definitely more of
- 43:30a fifty to fifty than it was last year where
- 43:32it was over Oh it's.
- 43:33Speaker 3: It's Jackson's taken more ones in Ringo, but it's even
- 43:38they're not gonna know yet. As a matter of fact, Look,
- 43:40I'll say this, and we're going to look into the
- 43:42we we we'll go over the free agent list, because
- 43:45this has got to be discussed. If someone doesn't emerge
- 43:47BV guy and it's clear that the guy's not only
- 43:50doing better than the other guy, that he's clear that
- 43:52the guy's actually looking pretty good. But if it's not,
- 43:55we're going to start looking at that free agent list.
- 43:56Then potential for trade is. You don't need thirteen picks
- 43:59next year. Nobody thirteen players. This team doesn't need thirteen
- 44:03new players last year, you know, at draft picks. So
- 44:07that that's George Jackson moves fine, and he could play
- 44:11inside or outside. But it's just not good enough right now,
- 44:16let's call it like at it, it's just not good enough.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard to tell. Let's just camp defense has
- 44:20played well. I just think that VIC needs to see
- 44:24them play football. I think these you know, we talked
- 44:27about this, me and Andrew. I think are me and
- 44:28Mike gill in one of the football at fours. This
- 44:30is gonna be a year where I think you're gonna
- 44:32see potential starters playing in the preseason because VIC doesn't
- 44:36know whose starters yet.
- 44:37Speaker 2: I mean, you have to play, you might be right,
- 44:40and Quille Ringo, you have to play. Jeremiah Trotter junior
- 44:43or smile.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Mind, you have to play these safeties who are competing
- 44:48because you've got to evaluate them.
- 44:49Speaker 3: All right. So Sidney Brown is still working with the
- 44:52once mccooba's working his way back. He got some work
- 44:53on Sunday now because he's had a shoulder injury. Are
- 44:58you gonna put him out there the first gonnaut him
- 45:00out there Thursday? That's you know that. That'll be interesting
- 45:02to see what happens there. He needs the reps, you know,
- 45:05he needs the reps. Maxin Hook number thirty seven got
- 45:08some second team reps. Nice, Yeah, a little bit, not
- 45:11a lot, uh, Andre Sam's there that in Eli Rix
- 45:14work with the twos a lot, Yeah, he's He's good
- 45:17for him because this staff buried him as soon as
- 45:19they got him last year. They buried him.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yep.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Chart good for him that he's he's competing for a spot.
- 45:24That's a good thing.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Yeah. And he's he's practicing well. It'd be interesting.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I think the preseason games will be really really good
- 45:30for him to really see his development. Nice to hear
- 45:32about Maxim Hook getting work with the twos. Obviously, some
- 45:34of that is what Macouba being limited and who else
- 45:38is out and scene is out there.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Right, that's right right, Well, although seeing I know he
- 45:43got a little bit of work with the twos, but
- 45:45he's worked almost all freeze. Yeah, they were down, they
- 45:47were down. They were down too safely, so yeah, that's
- 45:50why he got to look there. But look he looks
- 45:52the part like he's he's got good size. It's just
- 45:55he's not a great athlete.
- 45:57Speaker 2: All right, good stuff.
- 45:58Speaker 1: The best part is the Eagles practice again today and
- 46:00then you, me and Andrew will do another pod after that
- 46:03practice and that'll be out Tuesday. So we've man, we've
- 46:07been pumping out these great observational podcasts, INTEL based podcasts
- 46:11off these practices, and.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I'm enjoying it.
