Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo! Ready for another episode? Luna: Yeah, I am! Last time we talked about sour and bitter, and I've been craving something sweet ever since. Lucas: Oh, perfect timing then. Today we're diving into two more tastes: sweet and salty. In Cantonese, sweet is 甜, and salty is 鹹. Luna: 甜 and 鹹. Let me try... 甜 is tim4, right? And 鹹 is haam4? Lucas: Exactly! 甜 is tim4, and 鹹 is haam4. Great job. So if you want to say 'this is sweet,' you say Let's break it down: 呢個 means 'this,' 好 means 'very,' and 甜 means 'sweet.' That's not too hard. What about 'this is salty'? Lucas: That's 呢個好鹹. Okay, I think I've got it. So if I'm eating a cookie, I could say Lucas: Exactly! And if you're eating chips, you could say Now, how about expressing likes? If you like sweet, you say That's 'I like sweet.' And if I don't like salty, I say Lucas: Perfect! You're a natural. Let's practice with a little scenario. Imagine you're at a dessert shop and you see a bowl of red bean soup. What do you say? Luna: Umm... Lucas: Yes! And the shop owner might say, Now imagine you're at a market and you taste some dried fish. What do you say? Oh, that's a good one. So 甜 and 鹹 are opposites, like sweet and salty. Lucas: Right. And you can use them in many situations. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: 甜. Lucas: Excellent! You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Cantonese, listeners can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. So back to tastes — next time you're eating something sweet or salty, try saying it in Cantonese. Practice makes perfect. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas! See you next time. Lucas: Bye bye, keep practicing!
