Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Once a Week Podcast brought to you by you.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Taking like a week off from the video segments and then I think
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: the video segments are going to return as a weekly smaller segment on
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: the YouTube channel and for social media engagement with the whole shebang ending up
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: on this newsletter.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: So let me know your thoughts on that.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Just seems like The time and effort for one long video just really isn't worth it,
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: so maybe just shorter video segments to kind of break things down.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Let's get into tonight's,
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: or today I should say,
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: main topic,
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: which is when a superstar boxer is flirting with the idea of becoming a gatekeeper.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Took like a pregnant pause there, but there was a reason for it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Conor Benn this weekend showed that talent doesn't have to be part of the equation.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: A strong personality and a famous father can get you really far in boxing,
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: especially in this version of boxing that values celebrity and says,
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: hey, boxing's still relevant.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: People with large social media followings are just as friggin' important as people
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: who have grinded their whole life in the sport.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Seems like boxing is more irrelevant than ever.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It's on streaming and apps.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: People might point to Dana White entering as the last chance.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: I also think that Dana White is sort of the same as what boxing has been for
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: the past seven years.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Boxing is obsessed with famous people who take a liking to boxing.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Dana White is famous.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: She's culturally relevant, right?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So people are obsessed with someone with it.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: A perceived notion of fame being involved in boxing.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: It's the same way influencers got into boxing, right?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Influencers don't get to play in the NBA, but boxing welcomes influencers.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Boxing has welcomed the Saudis, unlike golf, completely.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Because boxing is all about the money, and it's all about celebrity.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: So this weekend,
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: unsurprisingly,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: although some people who are deemed,
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I deem smart minds,
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Looked at Connor, Ben,
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: and Ryan Garcia and saw it as an exciting competitive matchup
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: and it was what it was.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: It was a tune-up fight.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It's a glorified tune-up fight atop a somewhat interesting card
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: that had some really interesting matchups and some not so interesting matchups.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Kind of sums up boxing as a whole.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: But now you hear these topics.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, was it a weight cut?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: No, there's a talent issue with Ben, right?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And Ben,
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: since signing with Zufa,
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: the place he holds in Zufa,
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: for as long as he's going to be there,
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: is he's going to be a gatekeeper who gets stopped.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And if he goes all 10 or 12 rounds,
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: people are going to be really excited for his heart and courage,
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: but he's going to be...
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Pitching a shutout in most of those instances.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: So you're probably saying, why are you doing this to just pick on Conor Benn?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Well, one of my lead questions I got this week was at 140,
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Pitbull Cruz is at the risk of being upset by a true 140-pound gatekeeper with
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: the right game plan.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Rayo and Giovanni Cabrera showed the actual pathway to beat Cruz so much
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: that this match will come down to whether Nasta or Bravo will Follows that plan
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: and how he executes it.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good point.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I think that Bravo essentially was chosen to be the opponent for this fight because,
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: well, let's go through this, right?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Valenzuela and Giovanni Cabrera are capable movers.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: It's not just boxers.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: They have good educated feet and their feet work in sequence with their hands.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Because of this, They're able to do things that other fighters are not able to do.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: So there's a level of coordination and movement these fighters bring
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: that simply other fighters don't.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: So we shouldn't dumb down or belittle that, right?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: But stylistically,
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: when you see fighters that carry those traits,
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: you should be aware that that could be a bad matchup for Pitbull Cruz,
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: especially as he's moving up in weight, especially as he's getting older.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: This is his fifth year of training.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Like main event, pay-per-view level, stardom fights with a very physical, grueling style.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And at a certain point, it's just hard to fight a grueling style for half a decade.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: At a certain point, that catches up to you.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: So I think that's something to be aware of, right?
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: The other thing is Bravo is kind of a spitting image of Pitbull Cruz.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: The fight he lost to Enda Dijonny.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: It was a way Pitbull Cruz might lose a fight.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: He dropped into Johnny the Wasp and then,
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: didn't cut the ring off,
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: showed limited ability and variation, and got outboxed and lost a split decision.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: His comeback fight against Pedro Campa,
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: he was able to catch him with a clean hook, knock him out cold.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: He is someone who likes to plant his feet and punch with you.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: He is someone who will put himself on the ropes and gamble on a hook like he did with Campa.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: This is really an interesting fight in the sense
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: that Pitbull Cruz is changing trainers for this fight.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: And he potentially has really big fights on the horizon.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: You know, you're hearing about potentially a Ryan Garcia type matchup.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: That's a really big paying fight.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And Bravo is...
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Not Angel Fierro because Fierro had the ability to box, move, kind of punch.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: He presented a reckless style but with some of the traits.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: The trouble Pitbull.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Pitbull's running into a fighter with less miles on him who's very physical
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: and very tough but probably not as talented in himself.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: And at a certain point, when do things become equal?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: When does Talent start to diminish with years of wear and tear.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And that is this fight.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: And it's also like, how much does Nestor Bravo believe in himself?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: But this fight by no means is a gimme.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And when I first looked at it,
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I remember being like, Nestor Bravo, I remember seeing him on undercards, etc.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: But the closer it gets,
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: the more I go,
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: you know, there's a world where this is a fringe fight of the year contender.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: There's a world where we see ourselves getting an unhinged fight.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Now, The X factor to this fight is Cruz.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: How much is physicality and aggression a key factor for him at 140 pounds?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: That is his bread and butter.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And if he's not able to use strength and physicality and relentlessness,
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: he's probably in trouble.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: So I think that Well,
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: it's easy to look at Conor Benn and say Conor Benn has become a gatekeeper or
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: a guy that's probably going to like be in fights he shouldn't be in because
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: of whatever reasons and then,
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: you know, lose to the top names and that's going to be where he fits into the sport.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Pitbull Cruz has kind of had a rough two years.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: You know, he lost to Valenzuela.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: His bounce back fight against Angel Fierro was way too close for comfort.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: The Salcedo fight was really a late notice replacement fight after Fierro was unable to compete.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: And then the fight with Lamont Roach was essentially a draw.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Now a new team.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: And then you add in the Giovanni Cabrera fight.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Before that wasn't all that great.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Cruz has had a run where one could question where he's going.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And if he were to lose to an unknown...
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: He gets himself in a very,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: very awkward position of a vulnerable,
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: well-known fighter who I think a lot of people will be clamoring to fight.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go into the other segments this week.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I didn't do a paywall podcast because I did a gazillion podcasts in the lead up
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: to Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Ben.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And to be quite honest,
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I couldn't come up with enough storylines that interest me because the fight was
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: so obvious.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: So I apologize in advance.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure I'll do a paywall podcast for Esau Cruz or Nestor Bravo.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: We'll just see how compelling the fight week is.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: For Garcia and Ben, it felt like there was just one press conference.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: It wasn't all that interesting.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: I kind of got to get the juices flowing to kind of do a paywall podcast or has
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: to be something topical.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Before the fight,
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: we had a reader of the column say,
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: I think Ben is going to be a big target and I expect Ryan to hit him early and often
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: as he is dialed in.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Another great comment, Jai Apataya sounds an awful like, a lot like pre-Fundora Timzu.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I think that there is a lot of fear with me where I think Apataya is more humble than Tim Zhu.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I think Tim had like a I'm an all-time great vibe and he was trying
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: to forge his own path and kind of do it recklessly.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: But, you know,
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: there is real concerns that like in a lot of Apataya's fights,
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: he's looked extremely vulnerable and he has a lot of talent, hand speed, ability.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: But it feels like if he potentially was in with a Benavidez,
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: just my hot take, You can't look as vulnerable as he has looked.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Now, if he wins the fight, I wouldn't be shocked.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: But of the two, Jai has definitely looked more vulnerable.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Conor Benn is George Cambosis Jr.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I could see the comparison now because I feel like when Cambosis is in a big fight,
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: it's hard to favor him anymore.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: But you have to remember, Cambosis won fights that we didn't expect him to win.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: He beat Mickey Bay.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: He beat Lee Selby.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: He beat Teofimo Lopez as an underdog.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Conor Benz probably never going to have wins that are that credible.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: So it's a disrespect to George Cambosis.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: George Cambosis really pulled off a massive upset.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Connor Ben, we're not even sure, is a top 15 level fighter.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And George Cambosis has traits and things that he does.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: He's a good counterpuncher.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: He's really good at catching guys coming in.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Ben runs at you, and he believes in his physicality is going to win.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I was going to ask you to preview Nur Soltanoff.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: But I couldn't find any video on his most relevant matches versus Almost or Korosichos.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Carlos Adamis just straight up refused to fight as mandatory, who is Nur-Sultanov.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Who was the last boxer in Nur Soltinov's position?
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Bekra Murtazaliev.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, this has got me scared because Murtazaliev, right,
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: was also a guy that I remember being at Virgil Hunter's gym
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: and everyone said he could punch.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And when was the last time you heard you and Dakota proclaimed a boxer was the best
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: in the division against an unknown opponent?
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Well, that happened to be Ribisi Ramirez versus Rafael Espinoza.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Long-time listener, by the way, because that's coming up on three years.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: So...
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Really cool that you have a memory for our program and our analysis, even our bad takes.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: And I also got to say, I feel like I'm losing a little edge on my fastball.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I'm just getting so many fights wrong.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: But I guess that's good.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: But I guess I have to really...
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: Lock in to consider myself an expert.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Nur-Soltanov is probably the worst stylistic matchup for Ramos.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Three years of inactivity notwithstanding, we need to throw away the eye test.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Ramos has never fought a Russian or Eastern European as a pro,
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: and Ramos rarely fought the style and the amateurs since he turned pro at 18.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Nur-Soltanov had fought Mexicans as a pro,
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: and he trained at Brickhouse Boxing after he couldn't obtain a visa to fight
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: and train in the U.S.,
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I also remember seeing him in, I want to say, Blue Moon Boxing during the pandemic.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: I remember seeing him in there.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Nurse Soltanoff would have a level of toughness since he trains at Brickhouse,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: and he has the same managerial group as Murtazalioff, Usyk, and Janabek.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: That would be Igus Klimas.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Ramos never fought a pro opponent with Soltanoff's reach,
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: and he never fought a career middleweight.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: He will either need to get on the inside or win a mid-range exchange despite a shorter reach.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Nurse Soltanoff has fought at least two high-level southpaws,
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: and he's likely sparred with Janebek given the Kazakh and Brickhouse connections.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Nurse Soltanoff's amateur experience includes five rounds,
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: no headgear World Series of Boxing, where he beat Arlen Lopez amongst others.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I hate that because Arlen Lopez is really good.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Judging,
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: judges might rob Ramos in the co-main event to set up a plausible cause
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: and deniability.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, now you've got me really excited about this.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: So I'm actually doing my own film study on Nurse Soltanoff.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Pretty big guy.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: I'm going to look at the reach and talk about that.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at how he throws punches.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: The one thing I will say so far is he throws one straight shot,
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: leans in, very amateurish, I feel.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: So he stands, and what I mean by amateur, let me stop the tape.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: He jabs straight,
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: sticks it out,
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: and assumes the opponent's going to go back,
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: and then his right hand kind of reaches in.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: He jabs to the body really well.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: He goes off center with his face.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: The thing I don't like is in this fight that I'm watching,
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: he has a tendency to go straight backwards and put himself on the ropes.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: He has this you-go-I-go mentality where it's like he's going to be on the outside.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: He's going to initiate.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: He doesn't get trapped places,
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: but he has this reset mode where he puts himself on the ropes and And then he wants
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: to kind of get his get back and then take the center of the ring.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: That could be a problem.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: I want to see the knockout in this because it's coming up.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I want to see how he sets it up.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: So it looks like he's breaking down this Japanese opponent.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: He's definitely a body puncher.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: He targets the body with the jab.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: He'll punch in between.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: He's a pretty tricky guy.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: You know, he can shorten his shots.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: He can curve his shots.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: He's got a demeanor that I like, you know.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: He also has like a little flicking jab where he doesn't extend it.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: He just tries to hit you with it.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: His face shows reddening, which is also interesting.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Not sure what exact round.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Let me see if I know the round.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Eighth round, so reddening in the face, so he does take a punch.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: He's a guy that's going to be in front of you but not in front of you.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: You can kind of see the amateur pedigree.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: He feels like a hybrid.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: He feels like he could still compete and possibly win an Olympic medal.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: But he's also a capable pro, but he doesn't feel like a fully converted pro.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: I'm curious to see this knockout because I'm not...
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: So, okay, he's got a little Mertizale up in him.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: When you show that you're going away, he's going to load up on big shots.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: I don't think he'll get the ability to do that, but he loads up on big, big punches.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Definitely not to be overlooked.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Ramos now.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I feel like Ramos is someone that a lot of people are out on.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: So this is Ramos versus Shane Mosley.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: Let's check this out.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: So Ramos, the big thing to me, and as pointed out by the newsletter folks, is Ramos, a southpaw.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I think the other thing is Ramos is going to more than likely match him in terms of
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: the physicality.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Ramos is a very big middleweight.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Um, Interesting about the reach.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: I should probably do more research.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: If you guys want a paywall podcast, I'll do more research on that.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: I think the big thing that I'm seeing is Ramos does more,
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I guess, what I'd call pro-style feints.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: So he feints into the mid-range.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Probably a little bit more what I'd call composed, at least early on, or to Soliev.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: I think the thing with Ramos is...
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: He has a lot of ability,
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: and he's impressive to me,
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: but there are flaws,
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: and it doesn't seem, it's maybe not as obvious as other top-notch prospects.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: I think this is a better fight than I initially thought.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I think the big thing for Ramos is it's not just the mid-range, it's body punching.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: It seems like when he's really, really doing well, he's able to find a home in the mid-range.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Shane Mosley, albeit not the same fighter, but Mosley's a pretty darn good fighter.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: He fought him in the mid-range.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Let me look up what Mosley's reach was.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Let's look at that, because that would be a great assessment.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Compelling radio right now.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's check this out.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: So, Mosley has got a 77-inch reach.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Ramos has a 72-inch reach.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: And Nur Soltanov, let's see, it's not listed, but let's see.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: It's not listed.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Let's see if AI can give us a reach.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't trust the reach.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: So, to me,
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: really the hedge is if you think Shane Mosley's a good fighter,
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: then Ramos just experienced a guy with a longer reach and pretty darn good skills.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Maybe not as accomplished, but a very good professional.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: If you don't think Shane Mosley Jr.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: is an accomplished top 10 fighter, then you could question it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I just, to me personally, I think.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: This is a classic.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: Nurse Soltanov is coming off a long layoff.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: He has to do a lot to accomplish a little.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: His power has to be very effective, and his physicality has to matter.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Whereas Jesus Ramos just fought a very similar type of fight against Shane Mosley.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: He's probably going to target the body, and I feel like he has probably more dimensions.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Nurse Soltanov feels like he's a mover who wants to fight at range.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: When he gets in close, he's going to pivot.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: It feels like the key to the fight is Nurse Soltanoff to stay off the ropes.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: If he puts himself willingly on the ropes,
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: I don't see him being able to do that casually into the 6th or 7th round.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: I feel like Ramos is so tricky.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: That's going to end up being bad.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Those are my thoughts on that fight.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, Cesar Mateo Tapia is returning on the Johnny Fisher card.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: And I remember him because he was on a...
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Tim Zhu undercard against Servandra.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: And he probably lost the fight.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: I believe it was a draw.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: When Endry Servandra gave him a fight of the year.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Basically, Cesar Mateo Tapia to me.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: I think he's fighting Leo Ruiz.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Leo Ruiz got cold caught on,
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: I forget the name of the promotion,
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: but it was one of these promotions that I used to see a lot.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Maybe Mira Boxing.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: He was on like a Mira Boxing promotion about two years ago, maybe a year and a half ago.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: And Cesar Matteo Tapia kind of is from the Conor Benn school of boxing of just,
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: you know, physical toughness.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I'm going to keep my head.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: It's kind of the traits of a domestic fighter.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Very good pressure fighter.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Very willing to exchange.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Going to make fun fights.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: But it's hard to see a high ceiling for him because of his lack of defense.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: So I think...
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: That's going to be a fight with more about Leo Ruiz, in my opinion.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: I think Tapia has a chance because Ruiz got stopped in the first round.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Leo Ruiz was someone,
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: I believe,
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: people around him had really high hopes that he could go to the next level
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: and he just didn't.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: But, you know, that's how I see that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Shabazz Musad versus Chikari Manisilla?
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Love to.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: I never saw this Dylan Price vs. Manicilla fight.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: I believe Manicilla stopped Dylan Price.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Let's see what he does.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: He's in shape.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: He's wearing blue trunks.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: He's a good body puncher.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: That's what I see.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: He's kind of got that really good B-side South American style where he jumps in
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: with hooks and they're really thudding.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't say Venado Lopez-like,
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: but not far removed from a Venado where it's like every punch is of consequence.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And it's like he chases you.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: It's interesting.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: He chases you with a jab to kind of offset you punching.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And then when he gets into a range where you think he smothers,
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: he kind of lands effective shots.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: And then he just, he'll either stand his ground or jump.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And he's like fearless and reckless.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: So you really have to be like,
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: I think you either have to have power or you have to have feints.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: And you have to make him question himself because his natural inclination is like,
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: I'm tougher than you.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: I'm more physically strong here.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: And I think Dylan Price in this eighth round is actually having some success.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: He got tricked was he was starting to have success punching with him
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: and he got sloppy and he got caught with a straight right hand.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: So the big thing with him is He throws accurate short punches with you,
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: and he can throw a short shot.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: If you try to get greedy and load up on something, he can catch you in an exchange.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: So let's see.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I remember being pretty impressed with Musad.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: He beat Peter McGrail, I believe.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Peter McGrail was kind of your traditional,
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: highly touted British amateur that's never going to go anywhere.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, Musad, I think that this is actually going to be a better-than-I-thought fight.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: You know, Musad's got a good jab, but a lot of what he's doing is just, like, excessive moving.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: He's got good foot feints, though.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: His ability to foot feint is really good.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: He kind of bluffs you with his hand.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: He's good at feints.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: That's the big thing with Musad that I can tell just from
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: the film study is he's able to keep you engaged.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: He probably is throwing about 40-50 punches a round,
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: but it doesn't matter because he's able to bluff.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: So it's almost like he's throwing 120 because he's forcing you to react to punches he doesn't.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: The other thing about Musad, he throws short shots.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Don't love that he keeps his hands low.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: Don't love that he walks backwards.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, this could be a real fight because if his opponent starts going downhill,
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: he doesn't really have...
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: From what I'm seeing, although it could be this opponent, let's check more film state.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Doesn't seem like he shows the ability to adjust per se.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: So let's watch the Liam Davies versus Musad fight.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Let's check this out.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: I want to see a come forward guy against him.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see what we got.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: There's some belts in the ring.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Let's skip to the middle rounds.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, Liam Davies.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so this is more the style we're going to see.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Higher level.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: And he had a little bit of success in the middle rounds.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: Let's watch the end of this.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, Davies is,
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: he's like a beloved kind of figure probably in British boxing
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: where he's like he's not going to leave Britain,
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: but he's going to be a tough guy who like fights and stuff.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Seems like Musad has enough to get by these type of fighters, but there is a durability issue.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Like it's always not fun to be the guy who's more talented but doesn't hit as hard.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: And you just have to be like a perfect operator.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of what Musad feels like.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: So that's my analysis.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: Risky fight.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: More thoughts on that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: Dylan Price fought as though he had power throwing single jabs, power shots, few combinations.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: If you listen to this show, you'd know his power is nothing special.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: I think two things to take away from there.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Dylan Price's identity is The fighter probably was like,
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: hey, I gotta prove to people I hit hard.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: Also, probably some of those body shots hurt,
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: and he was probably trying to load up to be like, hey,
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: stay off of me,
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: and he got caught because he was really trying to put a lot into it,
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: and he probably didn't expect a short shot because a lot of
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: the punches had been winged, and it just caught him.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I wonder what they do in sparring because his instinct to being hit was
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: to throw power instead of defending and retreating.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: I think that was out of necessity, probably getting hit very hard.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Can...
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Daniel Blancus, man, we got a lot of film study today.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Daniel Blancus versus Sergio Jimenez?
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Love to.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Let's do it.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, sick.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Love this.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: It's like...
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: Magically...
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, so this is a club-level fight.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, Sergio Jimenez, to me, looks like a really tough...
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: He looks like a tough guy who probably maintains a full-time job and is
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: a really game gatekeeper who stays in the gym.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: And he has limited boxing intellect,
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: but he's coming forward and he's willing to press the action...
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: And fighters, like, I'm watching him fight Dion Nicholson.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: It's like he's forcing Nicholson to have to stay engaged.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I'm curious to see how this fight, like, goes further in.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: It's Nicholson.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, so, yeah, it's tough.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Like, Sergio Jimenez is one of these guys where it's like he's like a bull.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: And if you don't either have the power or the dimensions...
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: His one dimension of just being tough and having some tricks to walk in
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: the front door,
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: like he's got like a crowbar,
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: he's got maybe a latch key,
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: he's got a few ways to walk in the front door,
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: but he's not doing anything but walk down the front door.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: And there's a psychological pressure he brings because it just sucks being walked down.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: It sucks feeling like your power doesn't matter.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: It sucks feeling like your skills don't matter.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: Daniel Blonkus is someone I remember because when I started at Pro Box TV News,
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I believe he was on a few Pro Box TV cards very early on.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: He might have just been off the cards right when I got there,
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: but I feel like I watched at least one Daniel Blanca's fight.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Now he's kind of probably to the point where he's about to be cooking with gas.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: I remember he was a very tall,
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: maybe like 6'3",
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: super middleweight, who was in the mold of like a Benavidez and Diego Pacheco.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: So I'm watching him fight Raul Suleman.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I believe I watched this last week to preview the Suleman fight.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: And the thing I see about him is he is a very good sharpshooter who at
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: the next level against these durable Mexican fighters,
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: the power is not showing as it was against developmental opposition.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So he's catching guys clean.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: And at least in the case of Salomon, he was able to take the punches and...
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: Kind of keep going.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: And as the fight went on,
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: the fight got more and more competitive because it felt like Blancas wasn't used
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: to hitting guys and they didn't stay down.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: So there's a real chance that against Sergio Jimenez,
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: he could find himself in another fight like that.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: It's probably a chance for him to grow as a fighter and gain experience.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And now here against William Tansel,
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: this is from last December,
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: I would expect this is going to be A fight where he lands a big bomb.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: So with Townsville, he's walking him down.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: So the thing I'm noticing with Blancus is he's trying to add to his game
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: and fight backwards and catch punches
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: because it seems like his temperament is high guard and just take you to
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: a beatdown school.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Against Townsville,
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: it's pretty sloppy,
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: but he's just the physically imposing, stronger guy who has a will to land punches.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: He's kind of beating him to the punch.
- 31:04SPEAKER_00: A little bit more coordinated,
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: just like overall just has more dimensions to his game,
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: probably mostly based on athleticism and youth and experience.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: So he's just kind of winning a fight based on that stuff.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: See if there's a knockout.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: It feels like there's going to be a knockout.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: I'm going to say he's going to catch him with a right hand.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: So it seems like also kind of his shtick is he really likes to,
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: if he feels comfortable, to go backwards and then throw a right hand.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, punch happened.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Waved off.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Left hook.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: So, wide left hook.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: So, Blockus just needs to improve.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: He's a young fighter, but that was a wide punch against an outmatched opponent.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: So, as he moves up, he's got to learn different ways to win.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Because the way he won that fight, though impressive, and making a highly real knockout.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: It's probably not going to translate to World Championship Boxing.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, next fight they want me to preview.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Marco Verde versus Guillermo Hernandez?
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Love to.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Here's Guillermo the Warrior Hernandez against Brent Anderson in Calgary.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, Guillermo Hernandez is...
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: He has punched.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: The big thing I'm seeing with Guillermo Hernandez is he doesn't move his head,
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: and his nickname is The Warrior.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: So you know he gets hit, right?
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: And it's clear he can move.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: He has a concept of counterpunching.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: But the big thing that I'm not getting away is sometimes he slaps his punches.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: And he doesn't move his head.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: And he's getting in there with an Olympian.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: Sometimes he squares up.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: There's just a lot of technical stuff that I see right off of the dribble
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: that you don't want to see.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Here's another fight with Guillermo Hernandez.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: He's fighting in Jalisco, Mexico.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: It almost looks like a boxing gym, but it's a pro fight.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: I'm going to say that he transfers his weight over to the left side and lands a left hook.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: That looks like what he's going for early on.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: It says, uh, it's actually posted by, I believe him.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: There's 20 subscribers.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be a subscriber.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: I'm going to add him to my subscription list.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, he, he's got that shifting style.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: And what I mean by that is he goes left hip, right hip.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: So whenever he takes a move, he's kind of loading up on a power shot.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: So he's like transferring his weight, looking to land something big.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Um, Kind of getting pieced up in this, to be honest with you.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: This guy's a southpaw, much smaller than him.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Unless I'm seeing the wrong guy, but he's kind of struggling with basic things here.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: That'd be sick if I'm seeing the...
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Train's always on time.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: I mean...
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: It's not, I mean, this performance is not that impressive to me.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, didn't love that.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: So, and then the fight's over.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Here's Verde versus Sona Acoli,
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: better known for as Slink Prosper,
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: the guy that beat Nico Ali Walsh, the first guy to beat him.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: And the thing with Verde,
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: obviously an Olympian, but I think he's still getting used to his pro style.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: He starts very quick.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: I think after four rounds, he's probably pretty done.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: He has to learn to control himself a little better, but it's like against...
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Sona, Sona just didn't have the fight IQ.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: He was physically smaller than him.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: He's kind of a dense guy and it's like the hand speed was an issue.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Oftentimes at these lower level fights,
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: developmental fights,
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: hand speed wins fights because you just can't keep up with fast hands and
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: the feet match.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Um, Verde's really good.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: He's really solid.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: He's really promising, but he's also not the final product.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, to me, I would be shocked if Verde doesn't stop.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: The Warrior.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Let's watch one more tape study.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: The thing about Verde early, too, is he's thrown a lot of combinations.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: He's thrown a lot of combinations really early on,
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: which means,
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: like, if you get hit and don't move your head, that's probably going to be bad.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Here he is again,
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: this fight,
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: this upload to the Azteca,
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: and obviously Verde is green,
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: so he comes out in green with his gloves, trunks, Big combination.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: So I think the thing he likes to do is when guys are limited,
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: when guys have lack of head movement.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Another thing I'm seeing in his development,
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure about the Warrior,
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: but it's like these guys are physically smaller than him.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: They're not as tall.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: They're basically not as in shape.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: And that's an issue.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: I kind of miss these type of fights, the Box Azteca cards.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Feels like these don't exist as much anymore, and they were really fun.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: So, let's watch the end of this fight, see how it ends.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: It's just the combinations.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: It's round six.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Verde's slowed down.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: He slows down after the fourth, I think.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: I think he gets too excited, that amateur style.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: His mouth's kind of open.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: He's slowing down.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: So, you know,
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: I think he's a developmental fighter,
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: very promising, probably will be a world champion, but nothing's guaranteed.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Some of the best fighters can lose.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Nishida versus Sam Goodman?
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, here's the first one they want is Sam Goodman.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Goodman's a pretty good fighter.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: So, I'm showing my guy Anthony Cox, too, by the way, covers.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, Goodman's your traditional fencer, boxer.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: You can tell that he wants to fight from range.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: He has good reflexes.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: He wants to get full extension on the jab.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: He will step back and look for a right hand.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: He's going to make it a distance battle.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: He keeps an active pawing jab,
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: which with his right hand kind of cocked to throw a right hand if you cross
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: the line.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: It's tricky because it's like there's more to what he's doing because...
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Like, let's make fun of Connor Ben again.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Connor Ben would just, like,
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: walk into these shots because, like,
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: what Sam Goodman's doing is he's pawing and saying, okay, what are you going to do?
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: What are you going to do?
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Initiate, initiate.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: He's got, like, a radar system going.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: And then if you cross the jab or try to initiate, either a right hand or a left hook's coming.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: And he really likes to keep you at arm's reach.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: And when you're off, he's...
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: Pretty impressive, to be honest.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: He's a world-class fighter.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: The only guys that can probably beat Sam Goodman are the best fighters in the world.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: What else?
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: What else do we got here?
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: I think my mic died at points of this.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Let's watch Raiz Aleem versus Sam Goodman.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: I remember watching this live.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Big Raiz Aleem guy.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: I remember people absolutely hating Raiz Aleem.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: The cool guys.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: How did he beat Raiz?
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Because Raiz is so awkward.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: It's the distance.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: Because Raiz is really an awkward fighter.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: And it's like he kind of just beat him to the punch.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's busy and he throws a lot.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: He's busy.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: He's got good use of distance.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Let's see Sam.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: The Nick Ball fight.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Nick Ball fight.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: So in this fight, he's trying to run the system, but Ball's just unwilling.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Ball's like,
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: I'm going to,
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: he's like, I'll keep my hands up and make you have to try to keep me off.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of like Ball's superpower is like, Yeah,
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: I'm shorter than you,
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: and yeah,
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: you have good distance, but I'm just going to make this ugly and force the fight.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: And by the way, it was very competitive.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: It was a very, very competitive fight.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Different era of boxing already.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: Rodrigo Ruiz.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: I vaguely remember this.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: I want to say this was a better fight than I remember.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: God, it's so weird how this era of boxing already seems different.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we got Rodrigo Ruiz.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is the worst style for Sam, is to fight on the inside.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: If he fights this way,
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: this is not a good style for him,
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: is to give up his distance and try to assert his power.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: I think that's probably the worst style for him.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: I think his most dangerous style is full extension, punching.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: When he's on the inside trying to force guys back,
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: I think he makes fights 50-50, and the Ruiz fight was simply that.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, Junto Nakatani versus Nishidi.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Really an underrated bout from last year.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Junto's a very, very special fighter.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: But Nishidi's, and it goes back to like these top rank ESPN fights.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: We got to see all these fights.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: The guys became a bigger deal.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: The thing with Nishita is he's not like a thinker.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: He's going to come forward.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: He's a southpaw.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: He's a pressure fighter.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: He's going to shell up high guard, and it's going to be on you to keep him off.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: It's a real fight.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: It's a real fight.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: I honestly think Nishita, I don't know who to favor in this fight.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: Whether it's Nishida or not.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: I think this is the best one to watch though
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: for film study purposes is Nishida versus Emmanuel Taylor.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: Emmanuel Taylor has a lot of the same traits.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: The elasticity and distance fighting of Sam Goodman.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: I think I almost would wonder if he's not a better version.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: And Nishida's able to think with him too.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is a hard fight for Goodman.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: If Nishida still has his traits...
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: The thing about him is he's willing to throw a left hand and a right hook
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: in exchanges, and they seem pretty hard.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: He gets hit,
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: but it's like he's relentless,
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: and it's like so far Nakatani's the only one that could crack the puzzle,
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: and he's a very elite fighter.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: So those are my first thoughts.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: Also love the rave glow sticks in the back of this fight.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: See as the marathon continues.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: I'm going to stop right now and we're going to resume in a second.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, we are back.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Audio is probably much better now.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: You know, marathon once a week podcast, but we do it for the love of the game.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Lorenzo Lorenzana versus Marcos Vasquez Rodriguez?
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: What do you know about Lorenzano?
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: He was born in San Diego.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: I know he's an Eddie Reynoso fighter.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I know he fought Luis Aries.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: And I vaguely remember he was featured on a pro box card probably around the week
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: of Canelo versus John Ryder, which is somehow approaching four years ago.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure how that is possible, but that is possible.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: And then we're going to circle back.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: To the fights that I missed from here, I kind of jumped in the middle.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: So let's check this out.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Obviously got to turn the volume off so we don't have any audio issues.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, great.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Pause, pause, pause.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: Okay, we're going to try this again.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: Paul Valenzuela.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: Paul Valenzuela, a great gatekeeper.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: He beat my friend Aaron Coley, even though it should have been a draw.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: He fought Jaime Munguia.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: He's a high-volume, tough, durable opponent.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: So Marcos Vasquez versus Paul Valenzuela.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: Fairly good assessment fight.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: So let's see.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: This version of Valenzuela probably fighting above a weight that he loves.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Valenzuela's so tough.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: Vasquez built like a fire hydrant.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: He kind of fights like Chino, Maidana, Marcos, Maidana.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: There to get hit, there to get countered.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Just big, physical, tough guy.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: Comes forward strong.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Definitely not going to...
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: If his game plan tricks you, you're in for trouble.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: Valenzuela doing Valenzuela things.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: It's like you skip to the sixth round and now he's coming forward and his opponent is tired.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Um, really a good fighter.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: So Valenzuela looks like he had him hurt.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Vasquez, Valenzuela's awesome fighter.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: He's like a haul of very good fighter.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Um, especially on the club level.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: There's, oh man.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: So he had like a little cupping shot to the back of the head.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Vasquez initially didn't go down from it and then kind of exit and then fight is canceled.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Um, Stays down.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: Don't love that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: That looked like Vasquez was on the verge of being hurt.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Maybe that was on the up and up, but okay.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: That's something to take care of.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Now let's look at Luis Rodriguez-Fernandez versus Vasquez.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: So Vasquez now coming in as a B-side.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Ironically, he looks like Valens.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: Tricky.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: I'd say the big thing about Vasquez,
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: I'm seeing from Luis Rodriguez-Fernandez fight is,
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: He's sitting and looking to counter shots.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: So he's willing to exchange.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: He can totally get hit, but he's there to counter.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: And it leads to him getting dropped because he's going to set his feet and exchange,
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: but he can also catch you.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: He's very, very one-dimensional, and with every fight, he's losing his reflexes.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's look at King Larrazo.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: El Rey...
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: From Jab Promotions.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: I should remember him.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: I think I've interviewed him, actually.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: I'd have to go back and look.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: I'm nearly positive I've talked with him.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: Very physically strong fighter.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Looks like he just wants to fight on the inside.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Actually,
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: this Oliveira-Quintera fight,
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: other than Quintana being an orthodox fighter,
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: this is ironically exactly how this fight could look,
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: except for Quintana uses a jab and kind of slows the fight down.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: I think this physically will look very similar,
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: except you're going to see Vasquez punching with Lurzano,
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: which probably will lead to a knockout for the younger fighter,
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: the prospect, the up-and-comer.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Let's go watch one more.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: So much tape study.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: Lorenzo...
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: El Rey, who's in the corners?
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Is this the Henry Ramirez trained fighter?
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Let's see, nope.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: Felipe's Pizza Grotto, got some prime real estate there.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Boxing VIP, who's in the corner?
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: Let's see who it is.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: He's got a really good record.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: He's got to be ready to go.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: Yep, there's Henry Ramirez.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: Lorenzo's, to me, it looks like he's trying to cut the ring off.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: He's looking for a big right hand.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Looks like a lot of his punches come at the same speed.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: Pretty solid.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: To me, he really reminds me of a more advanced Nelson Oliveira.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: An old Thompson boxing fighter.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: He kind of reminds me of a fighter that would have come up on the Thompson boxing circuit.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe has elements of a Giovanni Santillon in the orthodox stance.
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: That's like kind of my initial take on him.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: Should be a favorable matchup.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Let's see if we have any more.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go back up because I missed a few.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: Liam Davies versus Nathaniel Collins.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: Nathaniel Collins versus Christopher Lorenta 2 was a sneaky, really good fight.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: I loved watching this one.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Nathaniel Collins is a pretty darn good fighter.
- 49:28SPEAKER_00: He's a good southpaw.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Looks like via his trunks, his nickname is the Nightmare.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Love a good nickname, like Nightmare.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, to me,
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: a lot of what he's doing early in this fight is jab,
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: get the points,
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: and then when you cross kind of the distance as he's trying to counter with a left,
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't be surprised if a right hook comes.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Let's check and see how this fight evolves.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: You know I watch film.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the seventh round.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: Very comfortable fighting off the back foot, but he doesn't excessively move, Collins.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: He fights, but he's willing to stand his ground.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: He likes to fight at his distance and counter.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Might be a world-class fighter, to be honest.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: He might be someone that has the elements.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: There's a little bit of Carl Frampton in there,
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: but he doesn't quite have the athleticism or the obvious kind of wow factor.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: But there's something here.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: Lorenta is also very physical.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: His putts are showing an effect in this round.
- 50:33SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: And now later...
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: It's looking like Lorenta kind of switched the tactics and maybe got a points lead
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: and then kind of varied it.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: It looked like, to me,
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: Collins won the early part of this fight through reflexes,
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: but then after the seventh or so round,
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: couldn't keep up both in terms of stamina and In terms of strategy
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: and he couldn't make adjustments whereas Lorento was able to go to another gear
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: and Lorento almost channeled like a Sergio Martinez style and became the matador
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: and Collins kind of struggled going forward
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: whereas he was having success making him come to him
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: and he ended up losing this fight.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Liam Davies versus Fransecto.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: Grand Deli.
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's a fourth round knockout.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Let's check this out.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, Davies is just what you get, is what you see.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: There's no real distance, but he's looking to land punches on the inside.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: Everything's curved and hooked.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: He throws right hooks.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: He throws left hooks.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: He's going to go high guard.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: There's definitely that British domestic level where he's like,
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: come on, I'll show you that I'm tough.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: I'm show you that I can take a punch.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: And there's a little bit of that, you know, a little bit of that come forwardness to him.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: Interesting though.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: See Liam Davies versus Shabazz Musad.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: I think I already watched this earlier in this.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Let's watch some of the later rounds.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Let's see how Liam Davies does later.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: So against Musad, he's able to, in the later rounds, just kind of bully him.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Work and Musaad gets passive.
- 52:42SPEAKER_00: So basically the question here is,
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: is Nathaniel Collins tricky enough or strong enough to keep Liam Davies off of him?
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: Let's go to one of my favorite Olympians, Umar Marciel versus Omar Ulysses Huerta.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Vito Milenicke versus Huerta.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: For Huerta's things.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: Now Mileniki I think is a much improved fighter.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: I'd say even the Mileniki of two years ago is not nearly the same fighter of today.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: He's made great strides with Ronnie Shields.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: This is a fight from I believe earlier this year.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: It was Mileniki's only fight on ProBoxTV.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: A hometown fight.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, so to me, Huerta's a guy that loads up on a left hand.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: He's physical,
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: he's tough,
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: he's capable,
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: he knows how to do certain things,
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: he can protect his face,
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: he's going to get hit more than you'd like a fighter at this level,
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: but he's also not just going to fall down.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Like, he's going to turn with you,
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: he's going to take punches,
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: but he has at least an overhand left, because I've seen him throw that.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: The big thing about him is...
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: It appears he's durable.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: Although Milnicki is not known as a puncher, he's also someone that goes just backwards.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: His natural demeanor is to go backwards.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: Let's check out some of Marciel's fights.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: I know in one of his fights he got dropped.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: He has a tendency to go down.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: So this is a fight...
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, the big thing with Marcial is he has that jump in, jump out style.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: He's southpaw, good pedigree, head clash.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: You're going to get that with him because he's very, very aggressive.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: He also is like kind of a gambler.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: I'm wondering because I feel as though he lost a fight.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: I think it's this one.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: He lost a fight last year, I believe, or it was a draw.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: I think it's this, the Eddie...
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: Column and Arrows fight where he basically sold out and tried to get a stoppage.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: See,
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: this is the problem and I think that this is probably a strategic matchup to get him
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: in the ring against a non-puncher and maybe get his lick back because he showed
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: a lot of vulnerability in fighting punchers, big punchers.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: So let's see.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: Does he have a perfect record?
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: He still has a perfect record.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: He got out of this fight unscathed, but man, he hit the canvas in this fight.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: He was down in the third round and the tenth round.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: So yeah, to me,
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: he's an aggressive power puncher who needs to really learn how When to pick
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: and choose his shots because it looks like he's getting dropped from overaggression
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: and he's in with someone that I don't think is a puncher.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: Can you tell us about Robert Guerrero Jr. and Robert Guerrero Sr.?
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Well, Robert Guerrero Sr. is one of the guys that really helped my career early on.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: In 2012, I extensively covered his career.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: I covered his career until his retirement.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: Guerrero is one of the best fighters to come out of Northern California.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Now, his son doesn't have the same pedigree as him,
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: but has been around the fight game for a long time.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: They call him the pistola.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: I didn't really get to see him in the amateurs as much
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: as I probably would have liked to have seen him.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: I think the big thing when you deal with a fighter with
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: the famous last name is they're always going to be compared
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: to their very famous father.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: And more than likely they didn't walk the same path as their father.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: So it's going to be hard to be that same guy.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: I'm watching him on the PBC page, YouTube page, fight Eduardo Taranga.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: Very, very tricky fight.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, he just looks in so much better shape than his opponent.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: His opponent's just basically loading up on a right hand and very basic.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: This is a fight based around control and composure,
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: about using his jab, distance, so forth and so on.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: It's just about, you know, maturity.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: But the thing about Robert Guerrero Jr.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: too is as the fight gets on,
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: these young pros without that deep amateur pedigree,
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: They can experience vulnerabilities.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: They can get hit.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: They can experience punches.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: They can take punches.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: And it's really important for them to be tested and to go the rounds
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: because they have to learn about what's going on in the ring.
- 57:32Okay, they want me to...
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: I remember watching this.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: Let me know in the chat when Robert Guerrero versus Mayweather was
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: because I remember being so excited for this fight, the first Showtime fight.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, the big thing with Robert was he wasn't a welterweight,
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: but he moved up for opportunities.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: He came in a little heavy for the fight.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: He was clinching.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Early on, Robert gave Floyd some issues, but the problem was Floyd.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: Say what you want about Floyd.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: But once Floyd figured out what you do, he was a tough operator.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: And that was kind of the issue was Floyd just figured out how to handle the aggression.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: It looked like Robert was going to maul Floyd and Floyd just Floyd's one of
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: the greatest distance fighters ever.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: And he just kind of did what he did.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: Now someone wants me to pre-look at this fight, Conor Benn versus
- 58:41SPEAKER_00: Pnod.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Is this the fight where Conor Benn gets dropped?
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: I guess that was like an example of him landing a right hand on someone,
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: but it's just simply not the same level of athlete.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: And then can you preview Jin Sasaki versus David Pnod?
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: Susmuju, Uganda's David the Animal, Susmuju, Keo's Japan's Asa Ishikwa.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Awesome, let's do it.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: That's a photograph.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: This is when you know you're living, when you're watching these type of fights.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, Susmuju in here.
- 59:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, really technically flawed.
- 59:30SPEAKER_00: Just getting away with some moves that you really shouldn't.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: Just pulling straight back, counters.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: I'm going to assume he's got one punch that's incredibly hard hitting because he has
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: a lot of technical flaws.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: I'm going
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: to say it's a left hook.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: I never saw the punch.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: Never saw the punch.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not wowed with him, though, I'll tell you that.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: Very, very basic style.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: Let's see again.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: Must be really physically strong.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's basically a come-forward brute.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_00: Um...
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: There's some boxing ability,
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: but it just feels like he's like a freestyle rapper boxer where he just goes
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: in there and freestyles.
- 1:00:43Okay, so what do we got here?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think the big thing, this is him versus Kosei Nogami.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, he does punch well with people.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: On the inside is obviously his best trait.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: This could be a great action fight because him and Sasaki will not miss each other.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: He takes a punch to give a punch, and he just believes so much in his power.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is a pretty darn good fight that got uploaded.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: Would not want to be either one of them.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_00: It's basically a street fight.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: They're just taking turns seeing who can take less punches.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Seems like he's got decent power.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, he might be a very live dog against Sasaki who was brutally knocked out
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: by Brian Norman Jr.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: And it's hard to imagine that like a guy could come back from a knockout like that.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_00: Jin Sasaki versus Shoi Sasaki.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, Sasaki, the book on him is evident.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: He's built like A stone wall.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: The problem is he also moves like a stone wall and doesn't move his head like
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: a stone wall and he just gets hit too,
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: too clean for a fighter fighting as high as he is in the world rankings.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: Let's look at his fight against Obara.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: He's a beloved figure.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean,
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: more than likely this fight is going to be two guys just standing close
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: and punching each other as hard as they can.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: And we're just going to find out who the tougher guy is.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Pretty good action fight.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you guys.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: Super once a week podcast.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: Let's do it again next week.
