- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, Shana, let's visit about your compatriot, Jake Crane. Do
- 0:03Speaker 1: you ever watch his podcast of the Crany Cove.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. I've been on the show a few times.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Oh good.
- 0:12Speaker 2: They worked with on three in our building. Now, so
- 0:18Speaker 2: he talked about their prediction what they do on their show.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Well, no, I was going to reference a remark that
- 0:23Speaker 1: he made about the quarterback situation, and Jake says that
- 0:26Speaker 1: a one eyed Anthony Calandria is better than Dylan Riola. Now,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I don't know if that's just clickbait or if Riola
- 0:34Speaker 1: snubbed him once or maybe Ryola took one of his girlfriends.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I don't know, but he says a half blind Jake
- 0:40Speaker 1: Calandria would be better than Dylan Ryola.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yes, I mean that's a little extreme. I mean I
- 0:46Speaker 2: think this is his biggest thought on that is the
- 0:48Speaker 2: mobility factor and how much they were limited by not
- 0:52Speaker 2: having a quarterback that could bail you out in situations
- 0:55Speaker 2: when you needed to get away. And you know, Matt Ruhland,
- 0:59Speaker 2: I know, has said they will never not have a
- 1:01Speaker 2: mobile quarterback. They have to have a mobile quarterback, always
- 1:04Speaker 2: moving forward, and you know, I think it hurt them
- 1:07Speaker 2: when you look at some of the games against Minnesota
- 1:10Speaker 2: and Michigan and you know their offensive line issues, but
- 1:13Speaker 2: a quarterback with some mobility could get away from some
- 1:15Speaker 2: of that if they were able to run better. So,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I mean, that was probably the biggest thing last year Dylan.
- 1:21Speaker 2: No one's going to question his arm mobility, his arm talent,
- 1:24Speaker 2: but his ability to kind of create when the play
- 1:26Speaker 2: breaks down, and then college football you have to be
- 1:28Speaker 2: able to do that.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Well, he might have been the only one that questioned
- 1:32Speaker 1: his arm talent because he refused to throw a fader out.
- 1:34Speaker 1: But let's visit about a couple of other people. There's
- 1:37Speaker 1: a lot of buzz about how much better this defense
- 1:39Speaker 1: is going to be. Well, we'll see about that. But
- 1:41Speaker 1: it doesn't matter what scheme you're playing if you don't
- 1:43Speaker 1: have people up front who can stop the run. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: this has been a major problem for Nebraska at least
- 1:49Speaker 1: certainly was since the Natt Hutmasher and ty Robinson left
- 1:54Speaker 1: the program. But is just Sheer Winningham enough what else
- 1:59Speaker 1: we've talked about, Tyson, But is you sher Winningham, who's
- 2:01Speaker 1: the big money free agent? Is he enough to fix that?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well? O, when stodhom Iyer is in that category two,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and Whittington and Stodhom are going to play a lot
- 2:10Speaker 2: in the middle, you know, with Riley Van Poppol probably
- 2:14Speaker 2: Tyson Terry. Then you have a group of other guys
- 2:16Speaker 2: they want to play six and I think the first
- 2:18Speaker 2: three games are going to allow them to do that.
- 2:21Speaker 2: The biggest thing I think is the level of coaching
- 2:24Speaker 2: and teaching is better than what it has been. Terry
- 2:28Speaker 2: Braden had never coached really a room like that last year,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and it showed they just I don't think they were
- 2:34Speaker 2: really lined up right or developed properly. And you know,
- 2:38Speaker 2: even Terrence Knight and before that had been kind of
- 2:41Speaker 2: more of a rookie coach in that role. And now
- 2:44Speaker 2: you've got Corey Brown, who's a longtime coach who's coached
- 2:47Speaker 2: all the way down on the small college level. Dave
- 2:49Speaker 2: Tollison was his assistant, Roy Manning came on the edges
- 2:54Speaker 2: with Rob Warwich. So I think the continuity in the
- 2:59Speaker 2: team and the coaching is night and day from what
- 3:02Speaker 2: I've gathered, and that is going to make a difference
- 3:04Speaker 2: because it wasn't a lack of material always at times
- 3:07Speaker 2: it was the mother la Nebraska is getting blown off
- 3:11Speaker 2: the ball. It was more where guys lined up, where
- 3:14Speaker 2: they're playing the right techniques, the right gaps, the right reads,
- 3:18Speaker 2: because some of those reasons were why we saw the
- 3:20Speaker 2: big plays last.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Year, especially in the Iowa Penn's Day game. There's another
- 3:23Speaker 1: player that I think a lot of Husker fans are
- 3:25Speaker 1: wondering about.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And it is a.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Crowded wide receiver room, but what about Dimitriu's bell. This
- 3:31Speaker 1: was one of the top receivers out of the recruiting
- 3:34Speaker 1: class of a couple of years ago. He's had a
- 3:36Speaker 1: lot of injuries, He's a red shirt junior. Is this
- 3:39Speaker 1: guy ready for a breakout season? And will they have
- 3:42Speaker 1: enough footballs in the air to make all of these
- 3:44Speaker 1: receivers happy?
- 3:45Speaker 2: No, he's really I mean, I don't even know if
- 3:47Speaker 2: he's practicing at this point right now. I don't know
- 3:49Speaker 2: where he's at with the injury situation with him. That
- 3:53Speaker 2: is a very defined, established top group. Gym Quasi Gilmer
- 3:56Speaker 2: is their big free agent. He was the leading receiver
- 3:59Speaker 2: for VCLA Corey Barney and isaaah Hunter the leading of
- 4:02Speaker 2: receivers from the Huskers a year ago. That's your top
- 4:04Speaker 2: three and then Quinn Clark, Jediron, Bonner, Cortez Mills, maybe
- 4:10Speaker 2: than Keelan Smith. I mean, those guys all would be
- 4:13Speaker 2: ahead of him right now in the depth chart.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So he's one of those recruits that just didn't work out.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And the injuries are probably a factor. What you've been
- 4:20Speaker 1: injured enough, it's very difficult to motivate yourself back, especially
- 4:25Speaker 1: when you look at all of the guys in front
- 4:26Speaker 1: of you on the depth chart. All right, we got
- 4:28Speaker 1: a scrimmage tomorrow. What do they hope to get done
- 4:30Speaker 1: in a scrimmage tomorrow?
- 4:32Speaker 2: You know, you only get a couple of these, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: this is a big one for Nebraska. But I think
- 4:37Speaker 2: the live work with your running backs is so important
- 4:40Speaker 2: because you just don't get an opportunity to take them
- 4:43Speaker 2: down live a lot in camp. So I think that's big.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But yeah, your defense, I mean you want to see
- 4:49Speaker 2: how these guys respawn, how they play in the scheme
- 4:51Speaker 2: as well, and who wins the script? I mean, is
- 4:56Speaker 2: it a good side of defense wins it? Or is
- 4:58Speaker 2: a good sign at the offense? Whin's it? You'd like
- 5:00Speaker 2: to maybe see both sides have some success. Most importantly,
- 5:03Speaker 2: you want a clean scrimmage, nobody getting hurt, but just
- 5:06Speaker 2: you don't want you don't want procedural penalty balls on
- 5:10Speaker 2: the ground, things that really come back to bite. Yet
- 5:13Speaker 2: when you start playing in September, all right, that's KAF.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It'd be a Husker Info strong man shot Callah exclusively
- 5:18Speaker 1: at on Han eleven to ten kf be
