- 0:13- Welcome to the divine five one five pod
- 0:16- podcast. Here is this week's devotional.
- 0:20- Hello, and welcome to divine five one five.
- 0:24- Today, we're starting a new podcast series entitled
- 0:26- listening at the throne,
- 0:28- learning to hear God more clearly.
- 0:32- Today's episode, we open up the series with
- 0:35- how to hear God's voice more clearly
- 0:38- through prayer and stillness.
- 0:41- Scripture text comes from John ten twenty seven
- 0:45- and reads, my sheep listen to my voice.
- 0:48- I know them, and they follow me.
- 0:53- One of the greatest desires many believers have
- 0:56- is to
- 0:57- hear God more clearly.
- 1:00- But often we expect God's voice to compete
- 1:02- with the noise around
- 1:04- us instead of creating space to listen.
- 1:08- But throughout scripture, God consistently
- 1:11- spoke
- 1:12- when people
- 1:14- slowed down
- 1:16- enough to pay attention.
- 1:18- Now hearing God's voice begins with
- 1:21- a relationship,
- 1:24- not performance.
- 1:27- It's not
- 1:29- what we do,
- 1:30- but how we do it.
- 1:33- Jesus said, my sheep
- 1:35- listen to my voice, meaning hearing him grows
- 1:40- naturally through closeness and consistency.
- 1:43- The more time we spend in prayer,
- 1:46- reading God's word through scripture,
- 1:49- and being intentionally
- 1:51- still,
- 1:52- the more familiar
- 1:54- his voice becomes.
- 1:57- Now
- 1:59- this can come off a lot of different
- 2:01- ways.
- 2:02- Sometimes hearing God's voice looks practical,
- 2:08- like pausing before responding emotionally,
- 2:11- which in and of itself is not an
- 2:13- easy feat.
- 2:16- Sitting quietly after a prayer instead of rushing
- 2:19- away,
- 2:21- This is basking in the moment.
- 2:24- Opening
- 2:25- the scripture before seeking everyone else's opinion.
- 2:29- Now that
- 2:31- requires some discipline
- 2:34- or creating moments throughout the day to reconnect
- 2:37- with him.
- 2:39- And there
- 2:40- is where we fight against the distractions.
- 2:44- But what's important to remember
- 2:46- is that God is not silent.
- 2:53- He is speaking
- 2:54- through his word,
- 2:57- through peace
- 2:58- when we
- 2:59- allow him
- 3:01- to rest in our hearts.
- 3:03- Sometimes it's through conviction
- 3:06- and even through quiet moments
- 3:09- that invite us closer.
- 3:12- A good example of this is when
- 3:16- God spoke to Elijah, not in the fire
- 3:19- or the storm,
- 3:20- but in the still
- 3:22- soft
- 3:23- quiet
- 3:24- voice.
- 3:29- Impossible?
- 3:30- No.
- 3:33- Challenging?
- 3:34- Yes.
- 3:35- But definitely worth
- 3:37- the challenge.
- 3:39- Let's pray.
- 3:42- Father,
- 3:44- quiet the distractions
- 3:45- around me
- 3:47- so I can hear you clearly.
- 3:50- Help me slow down
- 3:53- and recognize your voice in everyday life.
- 3:57- Teach me to listen with trust
- 3:59- and expectation.
- 4:02- Draw me deeper into intimacy with you.
- 4:05- In Jesus' name, amen.
