- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey friends, Happy countdown to Christmas season. We originally recorded
- 0:04Speaker 1: these reviews of the Mistletoe Murders season one episodes over
- 0:08Speaker 1: the summer, and we are re airing them in honor
- 0:12Speaker 1: of their debut on the Hallmark Channel as part of
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Countdown to Christmas lineup. We will of course be
- 0:17Speaker 1: reviewing the new episodes in season two when those drop
- 0:21Speaker 1: as well. Enjoy the reviews.
- 0:25Speaker 2: This is a bramble jam podcast.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Welcome to Girls Go One Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'm Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm Wendy.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I'm a former Homemark hater. It's finals week in our
- 0:53Speaker 3: summer school series. As we wrap up season one of
- 0:56Speaker 3: Missletoe Murders, we will be discussing episodes five and six
- 1:00Speaker 3: Death of a Humbug Parts one and two. While you're
- 1:04Speaker 3: listening to this episode, hop on over to Instagram give
- 1:06Speaker 3: us a follow where we are Girls Gone Hallmark. Hey,
- 1:11Speaker 3: we have a Facebook group we'd love for you to join.
- 1:13Speaker 3: It's Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups. And let me
- 1:17Speaker 3: just say, there is so much coming out, or a
- 1:20Speaker 3: lot of things being discussed about with the holidays, I
- 1:24Speaker 3: can't even believe what I'm seeing holidays. It's at the
- 1:27Speaker 3: beginning of August. I know, I am not ready. Walked
- 1:32Speaker 3: into a store the other day and they had all
- 1:33Speaker 3: our Halloween out. I was like, nope, nope.
- 1:37Speaker 2: At the grocery store, I walked down like the one
- 1:39Speaker 2: of the aisles I had Halloween candyo.
- 1:41Speaker 3: No no, no, no, no no. But if you're excited
- 1:47Speaker 3: for Countdown to Christmas twenty twenty five, they're talking over there,
- 1:52Speaker 3: so come join us. Yeah, and email us your thoughts
- 1:54Speaker 3: on anything Hallmark, this series, the new movies that are
- 1:58Speaker 3: currently dropping, Providence Falls, coming up, the Countdown to Christmas announcements,
- 2:02Speaker 3: email as girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot com. We're
- 2:04Speaker 3: prepping for an upcoming mail bag episode. We promise, we promise.
- 2:10Speaker 3: August is busy for us, so the entire summing is busy.
- 2:14Speaker 3: It's just a little bit of a wacky schedule. It's fine,
- 2:17Speaker 3: it's fine. We'll be like both feet in the sand.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Is that the same? That's not the same. I'm just
- 2:22Speaker 3: saying that when the Countdown to Christmas comes, there's gonna
- 2:27Speaker 3: be no lack of episodes from us. That is correct.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Let's here a synopsis of Death of a humbug.
- 2:34Speaker 2: What the hell was I talking about to feet in
- 2:36Speaker 2: the sand? I don't know what that means.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Okay, here's the synopsis for episodes five and six. A
- 2:44Speaker 3: murder leads Emily and Sam to a scavenger hunt orchestrated
- 2:47Speaker 3: by the victim. Emily continues to solve the scavenger hunt
- 2:51Speaker 3: and grapples with her past. Melanie Or directed episodes five
- 2:56Speaker 3: and six of Mistletoe Murders. Melanie has previously directed on
- 2:58Speaker 3: series like Sullivan's Crising, The Hardy Boys and Spencer Sisters.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Shelley Scarrow wrote the duo episodes of Mistletoe Murders. Shelley's
- 3:08Speaker 3: other writing credits include Sullivan's Crossing, Wyona Irp, and De
- 3:13Speaker 3: Grassi The Next Generation. Tom Kavanaugh joins the cast as
- 3:17Speaker 3: game Master Glenn Shaw. Tom has several long series runs,
- 3:21Speaker 3: including eighty three episodes of ED and one hundred and
- 3:24Speaker 3: forty six episodes of the Flash. For Hallmark, he starred
- 3:27Speaker 3: in Darrow and Darrow Movies Again. I'm gonna that's a
- 3:31Speaker 3: Hallmark project. It is, you know, we nothing they just
- 3:36Speaker 3: get I know, it's one of those it's like the
- 3:39Speaker 3: Rex and Hudson.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But I'm pretty sure they thought, Yeah, it is Kimberly
- 3:42Speaker 2: Williams Paisley.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I remember opening up this tab and it has the
- 3:46Speaker 3: Hallmark Movies and Mysteries logo on it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So yes, got it.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Well, you know, we did get another email from a
- 3:53Speaker 3: listener of the show who's begging us to review that
- 3:56Speaker 3: that series. Yeah, I'm not opposed to it, it's just
- 4:00Speaker 3: unfortunately not happening this month. There was not even this
- 4:02Speaker 3: not even this year. No, probably honestly not even this year.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah, there was some discussions since.
- 4:08Speaker 3: We cut down our Missletoe Murders episodes from six to
- 4:11Speaker 3: three rightfully, so I don't think anybody argues with that
- 4:14Speaker 3: decision that we now had room for that, and I
- 4:17Speaker 3: suppose that's true. But Hayle, we do actually have a surprise.
- 4:21Speaker 3: We had initially said we weren't doing something, and we
- 4:22Speaker 3: are doing it. So just keep an eye on that
- 4:24Speaker 3: schedule for something fun coming to girls, go on Hamemark,
- 4:28Speaker 3: What is it?
- 4:31Speaker 4: The Chicken Sisters?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not doing it so great for me.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I have a question complete side topic here. When Hallmark
- 4:41Speaker 3: drops season two of Missletoe Murders, I'm guessing we're going
- 4:45Speaker 3: to review it in real time.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, probably.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I mean we haven't seen like a schedule yet, so
- 4:50Speaker 3: we don't. Fully we can't. I'm just talking.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Through it here.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I think it's probably best to do the two episode
- 4:57Speaker 3: if that's the way they continue the parts and parts two,
- 5:01Speaker 3: and we should do them combined. So maybe it will
- 5:05Speaker 3: be like an every other week drop for us.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Perhaps, I'm totally open to continuing during the two episode system.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I assume we're gonna see the Mistletoe Murders schedule and
- 5:17Speaker 3: we see the full count out a Christmas schedule.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be soon. It's gonna be soon too.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I think Jake Epstein plays Wayward nephew Noah. Jake has
- 5:27Speaker 3: been quite the presence on Hallmark, appearing in the three
- 5:30Speaker 3: Unwrapping Christmas movies and four Hearts around the Tables movies
- 5:34Speaker 3: of late. Outside of Hallmark, he's had recurring rolls on
- 5:38Speaker 3: Suits Designated Survivor and The Hardy Boys.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Let's take a.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Quick break and come right back with our first impressions
- 5:44Speaker 3: of Death of a Humbug. Hey, Wendy, what was your
- 5:55Speaker 3: first impression of Mistletoe Murders five and six?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Well, I hope I hope the listeners get this one.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I hope you get it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: H Hammark really gave Tom Cavanaugh the Drew Barrymore.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Treatment in this one. Oh I don't know what that means.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Drew Barrymore was in the movie Scream Big Stars in
- 6:18Speaker 3: the first like ten minutes of the movie, which was
- 6:21Speaker 3: like unheard of, like unheard of. Man Tom Cavanaugh rolls
- 6:26Speaker 3: in makes this makes me at least think he's sticking around,
- 6:30Speaker 3: and then he gets gets the he gets whacked, He
- 6:34Speaker 3: gets whacked.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good point. He does stick around in
- 6:38Speaker 3: video form.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But yeah, but I thought I.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Thought Tom Cavanaugh was going to come in. Well he's
- 6:46Speaker 3: a big name, at least to me, he's a big name.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I think he was going to come in.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I thought he was going to be maybe like a.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Love trying yeah situation, maybe somebody from her past that
- 6:58Speaker 3: she knows in himera.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't, I don't know, I don't know, but uh,
- 7:05Speaker 2: he wasn't. So yeah, what's your first impression?
- 7:08Speaker 3: My first impression is I would just like to say
- 7:10Speaker 3: that I called Harvey as the bad guy before was
- 7:12Speaker 3: revealed he was the bad guy due to some hot
- 7:15Speaker 3: dog thing on my part. What's super sleuthen Wait, he
- 7:20Speaker 3: looked like he didn't. He didn't fit in with the.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Rest of everybody.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I mean, look, it's not like a big leap to
- 7:26Speaker 3: have like this hot dog vendor come in and be
- 7:28Speaker 3: the bad guy.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 7:30Speaker 3: However, in the scene where we see the recording device
- 7:34Speaker 3: in the car, right, they've just had their meeting an
- 7:37Speaker 3: Emily's shop, and we cut to someone is in a
- 7:41Speaker 3: car wearing a black jacket and black gloves and they
- 7:44Speaker 3: can is.
- 7:44Speaker 2: There a hot dog wrapper on the seat or something?
- 7:46Speaker 3: They can here Emily and Sam talking in the shot.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I rewound back to see what everyone in the scene
- 7:53Speaker 3: was wearing. Now, the shots are real tight, okay, but
- 7:57Speaker 3: as they prep to leave, they do show them go
- 8:01Speaker 3: gather their coats, and Harvey is the only one that
- 8:03Speaker 3: we see pick up a black cut. Now, now we
- 8:06Speaker 3: don't get shots of everybody like fully dressed in their
- 8:09Speaker 3: gear like it's a quick shot, but that did lead
- 8:12Speaker 3: me to believe that perhaps it was Harvey. So when
- 8:15Speaker 3: we get to the when he absconds with the books
- 8:18Speaker 3: and tosses his cane and gets into the black suv,
- 8:20Speaker 3: I truly out loud, was like I.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Knew it, you felt good about it. Huh.
- 8:26Speaker 3: It doesn't happen very often. I need to celebrate the
- 8:28Speaker 3: winds where they come. Let's talk what we liked about
- 8:32Speaker 3: this Maybaby. Well, I wanted to talk about Tom Cavanaugh.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, Welcome to Fletcher's Grove. I loved him as
- 8:40Speaker 3: this cranky bookstore owner. I actually googled how old he
- 8:44Speaker 3: was because I'm having those same feelings as I did
- 8:48Speaker 3: watching Mystery one oh one, where I find myself attracted
- 8:52Speaker 3: to the older man.
- 8:53Speaker 2: He's in his sixties. No, he is not, swear that's
- 8:57Speaker 2: what the Internet said. Dang, like he's like ten years
- 9:00Speaker 2: older than me, maybe even fifteen years older than Yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 2: you're not in your fifties. I'm fifty.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I think he said he was sixty four maybe, Okay,
- 9:11Speaker 3: fourteen years that's a big wow. Okay, that's much believe
- 9:16Speaker 3: I've guessed. No, although when I think back to Edn't,
- 9:19Speaker 3: I don't remember when that series aired, but many years ago.
- 9:23Speaker 3: He was probably forty in that, so I guess that
- 9:25Speaker 3: makes sense. I just have envisioned him as the same
- 9:28Speaker 3: age this entire time. Yeah, me too, totally. Anyway, I
- 9:33Speaker 3: loved him as Glen Shaw. He had such a small role,
- 9:36Speaker 3: but I love that we got enough of him. We
- 9:39Speaker 3: got to see that he was very smart, he was
- 9:41Speaker 3: very witty. He was kind of a curmudgeon too. Like
- 9:44Speaker 3: I just loved everything about it. Yeah, a small but
- 9:46Speaker 3: pivotal role, important role in this Yeah, I'm speaking of
- 9:50Speaker 3: I really liked the Treasure Hunt mystery in this series
- 9:54Speaker 3: of episodes. I like the way they've handled the three
- 9:57Speaker 3: murders that we've gotten that they've made them were so
- 10:00Speaker 3: slightly different in the way that they're presented to us
- 10:04Speaker 3: because we're dealing with a series of back to back
- 10:08Speaker 3: episodes that aired episodically. They aired weekly, and so a
- 10:13Speaker 3: little bit different than a franchise of movies which come out,
- 10:17Speaker 3: you know, every several months.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Maybe once a year.
- 10:20Speaker 3: When you've got week to week to week, and if
- 10:21Speaker 3: you're having murders happen every single week, well it does
- 10:26Speaker 3: stretch the limits of believability. And so I think they
- 10:29Speaker 3: did a nice job of giving us a variety of murders.
- 10:32Speaker 3: We kind of had Clara, which was like.
- 10:35Speaker 2: A variety of murders.
- 10:37Speaker 3: We had like you know, the classic like potentially poisoned murder,
- 10:43Speaker 3: and then Clara's was almost like a little bit of
- 10:45Speaker 3: a cold case murder that we were dealing with. And
- 10:48Speaker 3: then this one, Yes it was a murder, but it
- 10:51Speaker 3: had some additional intrigue added with the treasure hunt, which
- 10:56Speaker 3: I think was a fun way to deal with branding
- 11:00Speaker 3: the murderer.
- 11:01Speaker 2: To catch a killer.
- 11:03Speaker 3: With that said, though, I this topic falls into my wishes.
- 11:08Speaker 3: So do you want me to wait to circle back
- 11:10Speaker 3: to it?
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's up to you, But yeah, we can wait. I
- 11:12Speaker 2: can shut up about it.
- 11:13Speaker 3: No, No, you don't need to shut up about it,
- 11:15Speaker 3: like I I think. I think you're right, like, but
- 11:18Speaker 3: I just wanted to like talk through it. Back to
- 11:22Speaker 3: Scavenger Hunt. I did really enjoy that. It wasn't like
- 11:26Speaker 3: as like hokey as it could have been. I think
- 11:28Speaker 3: it was very interesting and I'm like, why is Emily
- 11:31Speaker 3: the smartest one in the room here? Like even the
- 11:34Speaker 3: detective couldn't figure out some of these clues.
- 11:38Speaker 2: But I loved it.
- 11:39Speaker 3: What else did you like the cemetary showdown between Emily
- 11:43Speaker 3: and the hot dog Eye? Yes, ma'am okay unexpected mm
- 11:47Speaker 3: hmm for Hallmark. I thought I thought it felt elevated.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I do have some wishes about it. But I did
- 11:55Speaker 3: like this confrontation. It was tense.
- 11:58Speaker 2: There were like it was she chokes him out.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I love that part of it, but I do have
- 12:07Speaker 3: some criticism about it too that I'm gonna get to. Well,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I really loved my notes say. I loved watching Emily
- 12:14Speaker 3: kick Harvey's ass. And I know he has a different
- 12:16Speaker 3: name whatever, he's Harvey through most of the movie. To me,
- 12:19Speaker 3: I really like that scene. And I think why it
- 12:22Speaker 3: was important is this series of episodes is mostly a
- 12:27Speaker 3: softer side of Emily. Like the first series, we kind
- 12:30Speaker 3: of get introduced to Emily as a battie. We see
- 12:32Speaker 3: the whole Kaimara nonsense and the second duo. We don't
- 12:36Speaker 3: see a lot of her backstory here, and we even
- 12:38Speaker 3: see her saying like maybe it's time to move on
- 12:41Speaker 3: from all of this. But then she kicks his ass
- 12:42Speaker 3: and we get reminded like, no, no, what's that, I'm
- 12:45Speaker 3: a bitch with a backstory? Oh?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Is that?
- 12:49Speaker 3: I don't know's I'm not just a bitch. I'm a
- 12:51Speaker 3: bitch with a backstory.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I'm into it. Oh do I need to make a
- 12:55Speaker 2: new edit with that sound? Though?
- 12:57Speaker 3: I mean, I really don't know what the origin I've
- 12:59Speaker 3: heard of on TikTok. I'll try and figure it out anyway,
- 13:03Speaker 3: that's what it was giving. If I can figure out
- 13:05Speaker 3: the backstory to that TikTok sound that I've heard a
- 13:07Speaker 3: hundred times, I will drop it in the show notes.
- 13:11Speaker 3: So those are interesting thoughts and I have a reaction
- 13:17Speaker 3: to them, But it also is in my wishes. Okay,
- 13:20Speaker 3: I have a been there, Yes, so do I let
- 13:23Speaker 3: me hear yours?
- 13:24Speaker 2: Well.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I really like that Sam isn't being coy. Sam is
- 13:28Speaker 3: clearly trying to move things forward with Emily. He offers
- 13:31Speaker 3: to break her food, he tries to hang out with her, like,
- 13:33Speaker 3: he's very clearly making himself available to her. They're not pretending.
- 13:36Speaker 3: He's not pretending like he doesn't like her. He's not
- 13:38Speaker 3: pretending like there's not something there. He's trying to move
- 13:41Speaker 3: the relationship forward. She's pushing back because again she's got
- 13:44Speaker 3: a backstory, she got secrets.
- 13:47Speaker 2: She does.
- 13:47Speaker 3: But I really liked that we're not playing games here,
- 13:53Speaker 3: which leads into my final, like which maybe your final.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Like that cliffhanger, Oh my gosh.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Well, first of all, before the cliffhanger, the kiss, the
- 14:02Speaker 3: kids so freaking hot, so hot grabbing the waist. I
- 14:06Speaker 3: was like, that's a choice that I think more Hallmark
- 14:08Speaker 3: actors need to be making, because it's very appropriate for Hallmark,
- 14:12Speaker 3: but real hot. Hmm. Going back for the second kiss
- 14:17Speaker 3: also hot. Yeah, man, I feel like the cliffhanger was
- 14:25Speaker 3: so good.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I mean, it definitely left me wanting more.
- 14:28Speaker 3: He says, this is I want to hear. I want
- 14:31Speaker 3: to let me know what you thought. He says, he
- 14:34Speaker 3: gets well, he gets that phone call while she's changing
- 14:37Speaker 3: right out of her GMS because she wants to go
- 14:39Speaker 3: win the snow, which I just love so much. But
- 14:42Speaker 3: he says on his phone call that that he was
- 14:45Speaker 3: told that his chief or whoever called him told him
- 14:51Speaker 3: that they received a call to stop the inquiries about
- 14:54Speaker 3: Emily Lane.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Like, did we just.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Gloss right over that? Who's calling? Who's from above? Calleen saying, like,
- 15:04Speaker 3: stop asking questions? I think that's all part of the cliffhanger.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Mistress, God's so good. It's so good.
- 15:11Speaker 3: It is so good it is, and the suspense was
- 15:14Speaker 3: built because when she leaves to go upstairs to change,
- 15:16Speaker 3: you know something's gonna happen. I thought it was going
- 15:19Speaker 3: to be something more sinister. Like Kaima was going to
- 15:22Speaker 3: show back because we got at the end of episodes
- 15:25Speaker 3: three and four, I'm watching you, and I thought maybe
- 15:28Speaker 3: she would. We were going to see her get like
- 15:30Speaker 3: kidnapped or swept away or wax yeah, you know, over
- 15:34Speaker 3: the head. But this is quieter, and I loved it
- 15:38Speaker 3: because poor Sam, he was all in and then he
- 15:41Speaker 3: realizes that she's been lying to him. And I think
- 15:45Speaker 3: the part that got me the most is I was
- 15:48Speaker 3: thinking Sam would have accepted the truth about who she is.
- 15:52Speaker 2: If she had given it to him. Yeah, but she
- 15:55Speaker 2: is not in a place I know.
- 15:57Speaker 3: I get that, like she doesn't feel safe, she'd really
- 16:01Speaker 3: know him well enough to feel safe. And even us
- 16:03Speaker 3: as viewers, we don't know the backstory, So how can
- 16:06Speaker 3: we determine that she should tell Sam? You know, we
- 16:10Speaker 3: don't know how bad it is. I know, and I'm
- 16:12Speaker 3: sitting here and I one hundred percent agree we don't
- 16:15Speaker 3: know how bad it is. I'm just making assumptions that
- 16:17Speaker 3: it was not rooted in badness that made the exception.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Her deception or her actions, while perhaps destructive or perhaps
- 16:27Speaker 3: criminal in intent, were of the good guy criminal sort.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Sure.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I've just decided that she can't be an actual bad guy,
- 16:36Speaker 3: like she's just I love her too much. Oh interesting, Okay,
- 16:40Speaker 3: she's not. Maybe she's made some bad choices, but some
- 16:45Speaker 3: chimera did something to her parents and it was more than.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Just a car accident.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot to unpack here. So perhaps a
- 16:52Speaker 3: vigilante justice situation.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:55Speaker 3: But look, I want to talk about the cliffhanger more
- 16:58Speaker 3: in our wishes?
- 16:59Speaker 2: Do you have any more light? No, that's it. Well,
- 17:02Speaker 2: I know you have a lot of wishes. I have
- 17:04Speaker 2: a few.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Okay, I want to go back to the discussion about
- 17:07Speaker 3: time frame. Oh yeah, in our last episode you were asking, like,
- 17:11Speaker 3: what's the time frame here? Like we're obviously a couple
- 17:14Speaker 3: weeks out from Christmas and these particular episodes we get
- 17:17Speaker 3: to Christmas. Here, here's my problem. There is a lot
- 17:22Speaker 3: of death happening, Yes, a variety of murders, but a
- 17:25Speaker 3: lot of death happening in a short period of time
- 17:28Speaker 3: in a very small town like that, to me starts
- 17:32Speaker 3: to feel a little bit unbelievable. Sure, and it's very
- 17:37Speaker 3: similar to the Hallmark mystery movies we watch, right, we
- 17:41Speaker 3: have to buy in on, like, oh, these things happen
- 17:45Speaker 3: to this baker or this caterer or whatever, over and
- 17:49Speaker 3: over and over again. But because it comes in movie form,
- 17:53Speaker 3: like you said, with a big span of time in between,
- 17:58Speaker 3: it makes it feel like, oh, yeah, these things could
- 18:00Speaker 3: happen in real life, but here inflectors grow.
- 18:03Speaker 2: We're talking six weeks.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, would you have liked to see the town
- 18:08Speaker 3: be like like someone acknowledging, even sue jokingly, like a
- 18:13Speaker 3: lot of people seem to be dying around here lately,
- 18:15Speaker 3: Like tis why he's in for murder?
- 18:18Speaker 2: What the heck is happening here in our small town?
- 18:20Speaker 3: Though? Was never like a problem before? Yes, maybe something?
- 18:25Speaker 3: But then I was thinking, Okay, how are they going
- 18:28Speaker 3: to handle this in season two? Like is it going
- 18:30Speaker 3: to be the same? Are we going to get another
- 18:32Speaker 3: six episodes? Then there's going to be three murders or whatever? Right,
- 18:37Speaker 3: Like are we going to get a murder in each
- 18:39Speaker 3: set of stories? And I'm like that feels a little
- 18:43Speaker 3: too far fetched now, like what is happening? Maybe we
- 18:45Speaker 3: won't get that at all. Maybe it's gonna go completely
- 18:48Speaker 3: different way. Maybe we get more backstory on Emily, and
- 18:51Speaker 3: we don't who knows, right, I don't know then, though,
- 18:54Speaker 3: I was thinking about other weekly mysteries and the only
- 18:59Speaker 3: one that can come that comes to mine because I
- 19:02Speaker 3: was on Hallmark's schedule recently, is Murder.
- 19:06Speaker 2: She wrote, yes, which this series was inspired by.
- 19:09Speaker 3: If you watch the two and a half minute making
- 19:12Speaker 3: of Mistletoe Murders that came on after this on Hallmark Plus,
- 19:15Speaker 3: I have not, and I actually was wondering if Fletcher's
- 19:19Speaker 3: Grove is inspired by Jessica Fletcher. I wasn't watching close
- 19:22Speaker 3: enough to hear if they said that, but that I
- 19:25Speaker 3: may not have come up with that on my own.
- 19:26Speaker 2: That feels real cute. If it is, I think so too.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Obviously, that's a show I've never watched, and maybe listeners
- 19:33Speaker 3: can weigh in here, But that was a weekly episode.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Was she solving a murder every week?
- 19:40Speaker 2: I think so?
- 19:40Speaker 3: And I think that's why the joke now is like
- 19:43Speaker 3: we need the reveal that Jessica Fletcher was actually a
- 19:45Speaker 3: serial killer. It's like, how do all of these murders
- 19:48Speaker 3: happen in Cabot Cove? Where she's solving all these murders?
- 19:53Speaker 3: Do I want to watch that show? Maybe like as
- 19:57Speaker 3: a throw on, you know, yeah, I enjoy a throw
- 20:01Speaker 3: on show, like as I'm getting ready or whatever, so
- 20:05Speaker 3: maybe I might My second wish is and this is
- 20:09Speaker 3: also something you've talked about earlier in this episode. Episodes
- 20:13Speaker 3: one and two were so front heavy on Emily having
- 20:17Speaker 3: this mysterious background yep, and then it kind of like
- 20:22Speaker 3: you said, then we get like the whole chimera thing
- 20:24Speaker 3: in episodes three and four, but then episodes five and six,
- 20:27Speaker 3: it kind of peters out, like we start to forget
- 20:31Speaker 3: that Emily has this potentially sinister background, and then like
- 20:37Speaker 3: boom bam, that cliffhanger happens, and then it comes back
- 20:41Speaker 3: to the forefront that she is who she's not. And
- 20:44Speaker 3: I was wondering as I was like writing this, because
- 20:47Speaker 3: Emily's background, her story is what is most interesting to
- 20:52Speaker 3: me as a viewer of this series, and I was like, oh, no,
- 20:57Speaker 3: we're missing that, like now we're just into regular Hallmark
- 21:03Speaker 3: mystery fair a little bit. I was thinking and or
- 21:08Speaker 3: worried about. But then I thought, oh, is this intentional?
- 21:14Speaker 3: Is Emily's background not in the forefront of our minds anymore?
- 21:18Speaker 3: Because now it's almost like we get to relax and
- 21:21Speaker 3: forget that she has this background similar to Emily now
- 21:25Speaker 3: like assimilating into this new town, and she feels maybe
- 21:30Speaker 3: kind of safer, right, and she's trying to forget her
- 21:34Speaker 3: background as well. And then whammo. I think that's a
- 21:39Speaker 3: great point because as you were saying that, is it intentional?
- 21:42Speaker 3: I think I think the cliffhanger hits more if we
- 21:48Speaker 3: have started to forget that, if we're more in on
- 21:51Speaker 3: the Emily Sam of it all and we get hit
- 21:55Speaker 3: by the realization almost at the same time that he
- 21:58Speaker 3: does exactly. So maybe it was pretty masterful. Maybe maybe
- 22:06Speaker 3: I have one last wish and then we will talk
- 22:07Speaker 3: about your wishes. It goes back to the cemetery fight
- 22:11Speaker 3: between the hot dog guy and you said earlier, You're like,
- 22:15Speaker 3: you've convinced yourself that Emily may have done bad things.
- 22:20Speaker 2: But she was a bad good guy. Yeah right, Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 2: that's right.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I have convinced myself that she is like Sidney Bristow
- 22:28Speaker 3: from Alias oh Cia Cia trained like this. You know,
- 22:33Speaker 3: she's done bad things, but but she's good for the
- 22:36Speaker 3: greater She's for the greater good.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Right.
- 22:39Speaker 3: So, then, in having this spot in my mind when
- 22:42Speaker 3: they have this fight in the cemetery, I was hoping
- 22:47Speaker 3: for like a swift ass kicking and it was a.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Little bit hard to like watch. I don't know because
- 22:56Speaker 2: I am low.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I'm comparing Jennifer Garner at peak ALIAS when she was
- 23:03Speaker 3: like do you remember any of this stuff?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Like they would show her.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Like in videos or like in US Weekly of her
- 23:12Speaker 3: training while she was in this role. He was like,
- 23:16Speaker 3: so buff, but no, anyway, she was like in peak
- 23:21Speaker 3: physical condition. And then I remember, like I remember them
- 23:25Speaker 3: talking that she had a body double for all the
- 23:27Speaker 3: fight scenes.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, wait a minute.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Was there a Was there a body double in this
- 23:31Speaker 3: last scene? Okay, I think there was. Well, can you
- 23:35Speaker 3: go with me here for a second. Sure, you were
- 23:37Speaker 3: talking about Sidney Bristow kicking ass. We are also currently
- 23:41Speaker 3: watching Providence Falls, and when I was prepping notes, the
- 23:45Speaker 3: IMDb for Providence Falls sucks. So I went to the
- 23:47Speaker 3: credits and was watching the credits to pull some names,
- 23:51Speaker 3: and at the end of the credits it's like chorus
- 23:53Speaker 3: stunt person, Liam stunt person right, So then I was like,
- 23:56Speaker 3: wait a minute, do we have a stunt person for Emily?
- 24:01Speaker 3: And I am pulling up IMDb right now? Okay, e
- 24:06Speaker 3: Nova Zatsman stunt double for Sarah Drew appears in show
- 24:11Speaker 3: episodes episode two, Poison and a Partree. You can imagine
- 24:14Speaker 3: exactly WHI scene that is she has the loft fight. Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 3: oh that was so good, and season one episode six
- 24:24Speaker 3: when she kicks the hot guy, hot guy, hot dog
- 24:27Speaker 3: Guy's ass. Yeah, yes, well, okay, it felt like.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I was watching me fight somebody.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Which just such a jow like I just wanted it
- 24:39Speaker 4: to be like I don't know the background of Emily,
- 24:42Speaker 4: but like I said, in my mind, she's this like
- 24:44Speaker 4: CIA trained, like it would have been a better fight.
- 24:51Speaker 2: This just seemed like it was like a just a
- 24:53Speaker 2: regular fight.
- 24:54Speaker 3: That is interesting that you see her as like professionally trained,
- 24:58Speaker 3: like you think she was like working with somebody, because
- 25:01Speaker 3: I think she's just like this independent agent who was
- 25:05Speaker 3: out to right the wrongs of her past, like self taught.
- 25:10Speaker 3: We shall see hopefully in season two, which brings me
- 25:15Speaker 3: to my singular wish about this episode. I actually fully
- 25:18Speaker 3: agree with all your wishes here, but really the only
- 25:21Speaker 3: thing that sticks out to me is I was reading
- 25:25Speaker 3: the reviews of this series and so many people were
- 25:27Speaker 3: upset about the cliffhanger. Yeah, so interesting, because I was like,
- 25:31Speaker 3: that's great, right, and then they were like, now we
- 25:34Speaker 3: have to wait a year to find out what happens.
- 25:35Speaker 3: And obviously we have waited several months to watch this,
- 25:38Speaker 3: so we don't have to wait a year. But that's
- 25:40Speaker 3: every television show ever now, Like we live in an
- 25:43Speaker 3: era of we drop eight to ten episodes and that's
- 25:46Speaker 3: your season and you don't get another season for a year,
- 25:49Speaker 3: maybe a year and a half.
- 25:51Speaker 2: So that is just the era of television these days.
- 25:54Speaker 3: It's not like twenty two episodes ends in May, starts
- 25:58Speaker 3: in September.
- 25:58Speaker 2: You just have to wait for them. I loved the Cliffhanger.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Oh so did I Yeah, so that was my question.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Like, do you even care about the cliffhanger knowing you'd
- 26:08Speaker 3: have to wait a year to find out what happened?
- 26:10Speaker 2: No, No, because there's so much other stuff to watch.
- 26:13Speaker 2: It's compelling, it brings you back. Yeah, yes, I mean
- 26:17Speaker 2: that's what you want.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I mean I could see the Hallmark viewers maybe being
- 26:22Speaker 3: a little gun shy where they are left.
- 26:25Speaker 2: With the cliffhanger and then it doesn't get renewed. Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: great point.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And at the airing of this season, I don't think
- 26:33Speaker 3: we had a renewal date or information. So yes, that
- 26:37Speaker 3: would bother me if I didn't know that there was
- 26:39Speaker 3: going to be resolution. But now that we're in a
- 26:41Speaker 3: great position, we know it's coming. We know there's going
- 26:43Speaker 3: to be some sort of follow up on this, whether
- 26:46Speaker 3: it's satisfactory or not. I thought the episode go ahead.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I was gonna say, and the fans too, because those
- 26:52Speaker 3: who did not have Hallmark Plus who are waiting for
- 26:55Speaker 3: this to drop a UREMARKILM. They're gonna get back to
- 27:00Speaker 3: back season. So yeah, it's gonna be awesome.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I only have one. Did you see that? Okay, let
- 27:07Speaker 2: me hear it.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Well, Hallmark deals with a very tricky subject in this episode,
- 27:13Speaker 3: and that is the right to die.
- 27:15Speaker 2: They do not use that.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I don't know if assisted suicide is a phrase that
- 27:20Speaker 3: is commonly accepted anymore.
- 27:23Speaker 2: They gloss right over it.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Like as soon as we find out that he has
- 27:28Speaker 3: booked a ticket to Switzerland, I was like, oh, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 3: we knew we had Huntington's I knew what was happening.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Their end of life care is what they call it.
- 27:35Speaker 3: But they think I think it's a big deal to
- 27:39Speaker 3: discuss it. They handle it kind of nicely, but they
- 27:45Speaker 3: do it in a way that if you didn't really
- 27:46Speaker 3: know what they were talking about, it might just flow
- 27:50Speaker 3: right over your head. Yes, I agree with you.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I thought that was handled nicely. I did. I don't
- 28:00Speaker 2: have any digite.
- 28:01Speaker 3: That's the only thing that I want to shout out
- 28:04Speaker 3: is that I love the character of Sue.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Me too.
- 28:08Speaker 2: She's I don't know what it is. I feel like
- 28:11Speaker 2: I'm Sue, like that would be me.
- 28:15Speaker 3: She's a little bit like got a chip on her shoulder, but.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Like, isn't nice as well? I yeah, I don't know.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I love Sue.
- 28:24Speaker 3: She says about Sam dying and her diner that man
- 28:27Speaker 3: would do anything out of spite.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Just yeah, I love it. I love it. She's great.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I do hope we get a little more Sue involvement
- 28:36Speaker 3: in season two, but maybe she'll just continue to run
- 28:39Speaker 3: in the background and just be like our snarky diner owner.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I feel like at some point she's gotta be more
- 28:44Speaker 3: heavily involved. Yeah, she's she's like Brooke too. I really
- 28:48Speaker 3: like Brooke as well as just these characters like operating
- 28:52Speaker 3: in the background like they're great? Is Sue the female
- 28:56Speaker 3: Luke Dane's ooh nice pull? Yeah, a little bit little
- 29:01Speaker 3: grumpy diner owner, but everybody loves her.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. All right? Are you ready to
- 29:07Speaker 2: read this one? Sure?
- 29:08Speaker 3: Tell me what you rated it. I gave it five stars. Wow,
- 29:12Speaker 3: I gave it four point seventy five stars. Not that
