Latest / the Visual Historian - "A Photographer's Journey" / We’ve Evolved So Much… So Why Are We Still So Divided?
Transcript
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Let's see one, two, three.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'm so glad you're here.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my little channel on the YouTube.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: On the podcast.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: On the Ito Wit.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: You name it.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I'm just a little guy.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: The little channel.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: But I have a big topic to talk about today.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I come to you not as only a photographer, but as a father, a business owner, a creative person trying to earn a living.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And uh I have a lot to unpack here, okay?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: So I'm just gonna throw this out there.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Um, this is not rage bait, this is not a political conversation.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: This is this is gonna be a human side conversation, okay?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And I'm not sure if you can handle it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Not many people can, to be honest.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Um, even my own family members, you know, when we talk about stuff like this, everybody always says the same thing.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Um, people will never be where you are.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, well, that's flipping sad, because when I was a kid, I really honestly thought the evolution of humanity would be better than where we are, you know.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: So let me let me just get this out there, okay?
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm in my 50s.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I have been self-employed for 32 years.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Um, photography has been my only source of income since I was 23 years old.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Me being in the creative field and me working events, I have been around so many different types of people from all around the world, to be honest.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And when I tell you, it's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful thing to have experienced in in my life because you you learn things about people and cultures, you know, you you learn that we're not really that different.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, religion separate us, political views separate us.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, you are trying to earn a living for your family to provide food, shelter, and uh life.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to else put that, you know, everything that comes with life.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Now, our motivations may have changed over the years, as far as wants, but humanity basically boils down to what you need.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You know, all of your wants are usually beyond what you need, you know.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: I want a Lexus, you don't need a Lexus, you know.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: I want a yacht, you don't need a yacht.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like those those things have always been the same in my head.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Um, the the the same meaning this has not changed since I was younger.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And as we move forward, we're in 2026 right now, October.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Um, here in the in the United States, we have some primaries coming up, some elections.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And I keep coming to the same question I've been having since I was in grade school.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: If we're trying to be a united country, why do we have only two sides?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Why are there only Republicans and only Democrats?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Now you may say, but there's an independent party.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: But is there?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: You know, my point is this I mean so many other, and the reason why I'm I'm saying this as a photographer and a father, okay, is because one, the creative world is getting hit really hard right now with many, many, many aspects of industries in general, we'll put it that way.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: That's not what this video or podcast is going to be about today.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Um, I just don't understand why aren't we just electing people that are here to serve your family?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Meaning, if you are part of the Senate, the government, just part of politics at all, shouldn't it be for the better part of humanity, the better part of your state, the better part of the economy of all of us being able to have money a little bit easier than how things are going right now?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I just feel like since there's two oppositions, there's conflict, and there's always gonna be conflict, always.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Like I when in 1988, when I was in high school, we were saying peace in the Middle East that many years ago.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Look what's happening.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Still, same thing, same conversation, you know.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: So when it comes down to these commercials that here in the in the United States, you know, when you're running for office, or even if you're already in office and you're just running to be re-elected, um, there's like hate campaigns that go out towards your com your opponents.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And I just think that's ridiculous.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Ridiculous.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, I used to think that growing up meant that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: It meant growing up.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Growing up as a human, growing up spiritually, or not, I don't care.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: But you as a human have a responsibility on a stinking planet, and that should be to evolve as a better version of who we were before.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Not keeping history angry at each other, not keeping segregated, not keeping people beneath other people.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: And, you know, this thing keeps happening.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: So that brings me to me talking to you today.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Do you really believe in a side?
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Do you really hardcore are one side?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Because I bet you're not.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe you are because your friends told you to.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're in college and you think you know the right way, but you really don't.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe you disagree with your parents, you know?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Answer me this.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't it be nice if our government was not debating against each other, but only coming up with solutions for how we can better move forward as a human race?
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: How can we not have the problems we have now?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: How come the economy is so bad that they are doing a really good job at splitting up the middle class because it used to be poor, it used to be middle class, used to be rich.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I personally think there's poor, almost poor, and rich.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: That middle grade, man, and I know what you're saying, but if you're making XYZ, then you know you're definitely middle class.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Well, not when the bills are so high we can barely afford the stack of bills on our counter.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: When when when that line closes the gap, I think that's where the real conversation is, you know.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: So anyway, what I'm trying to get at is if you are only one side, I think that is the bigger problem.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Um I'm I'm not here to talk about politics.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I'm just talking about the human way that we all should be living, which is how to get along.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: How as a human race, not Israel, not United States, not Canada, not Russia, not Australia, not China, Japan.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: No, as a human race, shouldn't we be one?
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: You know, shouldn't we be doing things for the human race, for the better good of the human race?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: That's where I'm angry.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: That's where I'm very frustrated that since I was a kid in grade school, nothing has changed.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Really hasn't.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: So if you are on a side, you're already part of the problem.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: In my lifetime, I'm not gonna see it.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: In my kids, in my great-great-grandkids, if humans today are gonna keep doing what they're doing, it's not gonna happen.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: It's not gonna happen.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: So let me let me talk about the one thing that really angers me lately.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Angers like violently, frustratingly angers me.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: The good Lord did not, sorry, the good Lord did not create money, humans did.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, and in the Bible when it said we shall not worship false gods.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Money became a god, money became something we worshiped, we lived by, um, died by the sword for money.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Is the problem for 90 something percent evils, man?
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: You know, the simple fact that we all have to go to work and earn money to afford our life.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Now, I know what you're saying, but GK, that's probably part of the balance of life, right?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Is it?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Is it really?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Do you feel balanced right now?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: You know, you you feel good going to a job that you hate and you're getting paid less than what you're worth, but you need it, you need to pay bills, and at the end of the month, there's hardly anything in your savings.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: So what are we doing?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: What we're doing is we're we're staying divided.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Why is the human race so divided?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I'm confused.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: We're the only mammal on the planet that does what we do.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: And how dare we say we're on top of the food chain?
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: No, we're not.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: We are so not.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: This conversation can go very, very wacky really fast.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And um, I don't have anybody here to talk to, to balance out the conversation.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna not take this um too seriously for too long.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: But if you are having the same doubts and questions like I am, I'm gonna tell you something I've been telling my kids since they were younger, okay?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Because I will talk about everything with them.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Our family is very open, very communicative.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: We love to talk about everything.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: And there are people that are more liberal in our family, and there's some that are more conservative.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: And I keep on asking these middle ground questions, and ironically, the people on either side can relate to the question, and it had nothing to do with the side.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: It's like cattle being led, man.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: That's all we're doing.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Is that what COVID did when the city was shut down?
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: When the country was shut down, the world?
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Pretty much the country.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: You know, when we were shut down and our leaders were like, Yeah, another two weeks in your house.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: And I knew we didn't have to be.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: I knew it.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: I knew those masks were not doing any good.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: But because people believed what they were hearing, it was a thing.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: And God forbid you were in a building and you coughed for clearing your throat.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: People looked at you like you were, you know, the problem.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: You were the disease.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: And you weren't.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: You were just coughing, dude.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: My point is that was such a political thing.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: You know, that was not a safety thing.
- 12:14unknown: That was not a safety thing.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Uh so where are you on this journey?
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Are are we really gonna keep the hate the way it's going?
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Can can we just have some people in office do their damn job?
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Like, do your job, dude.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: I I I don't care whether you're red or blue.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Nobody cares.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: How do you think Trump got in office to begin with?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Nobody cared.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: We wanted a business person.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: We wanted somebody that can call the bluff of a poker hand on another country and win the hand.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: We wanted to win as a country.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Now, we could not have foreseen everything that happened since then.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: That's all I can tell you.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, that's not even a podcast.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: That's like a private conversation with two bottles of wine and a straw.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, dear Lord in heaven.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know where I'm going with this.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: I just knew I had to make this video, this podcast.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to get it out there.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: I really want to hear some conversation.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: You know, if you're on YouTube seeing this, that there's a comment section, use it, please.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Um, do you believe we shouldn't have sides?
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, do you believe that we should just have people in office for the greater good of our state and humanity in general?
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: And how can we move forward together?
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Or do you really love being separated still?
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Is that where we are?
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: We're loving the separation, you know?
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: It's the bigger problem.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Money is a problem.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: The need for money is a problem.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Never getting out of almost poor or poor, never getting out of that is annoying.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And that there's a time when you give up, you know, because the effort just isn't honoring you, it's honoring those who are making the money, you know.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So, anyway, as a creative person, I do love what I do for a living, but as we speak right now, um, it's hard.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: It's hard.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And uh, yeah, without without honestly getting personal, all I can tell you is um the child in me from many, many decades ago um that was confused as a child, I am still that same confused child in my 50s.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: There's so many things I just don't get.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I don't get, man.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: And for those who know me, you you know I I love people, I love humanity, I I love positive living, I love having a faith of any kind, you know?
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, I got one for you.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you what I just told a family member last week.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: I was like, even if, even if you don't agree on any one religion, for the sake of conversation, oh, which by the way, uh I didn't finish.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: I was telling my kids, I always tell my kids this, and all the cousins, all the nephews, I tell them, I said, as you get older, there's one thing I learned about taking philosophy in college.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: I love philosophy, because it makes you think never stop asking questions.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: You should be looking for different answers.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: We're getting new and different answers.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Scientists are proving and disproving older statements from when I was a kid, not true anymore.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: You know, they are constantly learning new things, whether it makes CNN or your TikTok news channel, most likely not.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: But if you're not asking the questions, you're not getting any different answers.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: You know, you're not finding out anything new, you're not growing as a human being if you're not living beyond what you're told to live.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: You follow me?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: So that's my that's my thing for you today.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Don't stop asking the questions.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: And always think beyond where you are.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: That is extremely difficult for people to do because they give they they this box, man.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, I hate the box.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, so back to what I was saying.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: I was telling a family member of mine, and I love to create a conversation that frustrates people because it forces you to think, whether it's wacky, it's right or wrong, maybe you learn something new about yourself, maybe you don't.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: But it's just a question, bro, okay?
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Stop.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: It's not that serious.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: What if all of the religions on the planet were true?
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Were real?
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: What if what if all of them were right?
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: If you're Hindu, it's real.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Jewish, Catholic, Christian, Baptist, Buddha.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know all the rest of them.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: But what if they were all real?
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Can I make a statement?
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Can I make a statement real quick?
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna end this video on this.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: All the gods, all of them are not here.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: They're not helping.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: Nobody is here in a physical form helping us.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Nobody.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: So all we have are these beliefs, these standards to live by and hope.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And I know what you're saying.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Well, that's why I don't follow religion, organized religion.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I'm just against.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: There's still a creator of the universe that you are a part of.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: How that happened is not our business.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Why it happened is definitely not our business.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: All I know is a human did not create this universe that I know.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So there's something else.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is, I have no idea.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: This is for the sake of conversation, okay?
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: This isn't about my religion, this isn't about your religion.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: We're just asking questions.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Where are the gods?
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Isn't that a song?
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: That's in a song, like from the 70s.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: I forget the name of it.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: But none of them are here helping, dude.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: None of them.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: None of them are here.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: And I know in the comments you're gonna say, oh, but God is everywhere.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, from what he created, but uh not here.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Not helping.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Not solving any big mysteries, not bonding the humans together as a race.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Not here.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: That's all I'm saying.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, I know right now you're either super frustrated and you're angry and you can't wait to pull over on the side of the road and hit the comments and say your piece, or I made you think.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Just a little bit, I made you think.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: And if you're thinking, then that means that you're doubting these old school antics that we've been taught, you've been taught, your parents told you what to do, your politician told you you need to be blue, or you need to be red.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: If you're thinking at all about what I've just told you, congratulations.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: You're ready to evolve one inch more than you were 20 minutes ago.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: That's a big deal, man.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: You know, growing up isn't about getting older or making more money or having four wives.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: It's not what growing up is, dude.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Growing up should be growing as the human race.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: The human race.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: I hate I hate to even say race, just humans in general.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: We're not we're not we're not a we're not a race, right?
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: No.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: We're a mammal.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: At least that's what they tell me.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Um, anyway, dear lord, sorry, this was not about photography.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Um all I can tell you is if you are struggling like the rest of us, um let me know.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: If you wish there was more than just two sides, you know, we we need a strong independent to lead this middle ground of just business with a mouth that doesn't get him in trouble, you know.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: We we need more than what I think we're capable of, and I think that is my real issue.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: There's no human on this planet that can do what I need them to do.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: You know who can.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: And he ain't here right now, you know.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Alright, you guys, today is Thursday?
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Today's Thursday, October 20 something.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: Halloween is this weekend.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm getting out of here.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Look, peace and love.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Stay creative, stay focused on your dreams.
