- 0:08Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another exciting episode of Two
- 0:11Shot Tuesday. I am one of your hosts.
- 0:13My name is Jason Riley. You can tell because I'm wearing
- 0:15my old man cardigan sweater and I am with the young hip host
- 0:21Barry T Nixon in a sweet button down.
- 0:24Oh, thanks, Jay. That's a hell of an intro.
- 0:26Yeah, This is my kind of like Harvard rowing shirt.
- 0:29That's what it kind of looks like, but it's not.
- 0:31It's, you know, it's kind of fun, though.
- 0:32I was going for more of a scholastic look today.
- 0:36You really are. You are.
- 0:37You're pulling it off. It's like you ripped from an
- 0:39episode of Saved by the Bell, updated for the 21st century.
- 0:43I feel like I'm more of a Mr. Belding.
- 0:45This is actually of, you know, we're, we're, you know, deep
- 0:48into the, you know, late fall, soon to be winter season.
- 0:51And so I have, yeah, I have this sweater that I bought last year.
- 0:56I think it's an Old Navy or it's a Banana Republic.
- 0:58And I put it on and it's just so comfortable.
- 1:00It blends right into my the background there, the wall with
- 1:03the green on green. But it's my grandpa's sweater
- 1:06and it makes me feel good. I.
- 1:08Like it to put things in too. It's got little pockets.
- 1:11The only thing that gives me a little bit of pause is that
- 1:13you're not able to tell me the difference between Old Navy and
- 1:15Banana Republic. Those are two very different
- 1:18quality items. Yeah, again, this is one more
- 1:22thing that always surprises me about you, Jay.
- 1:24I we don't necessarily put too much weight into the brand names
- 1:28and we've had, we've talked about this on the broadcast many
- 1:30a time and if our viewers want to go back into the catalog,
- 1:34talk about that because we're not going to do it again.
- 1:36But again, no, it's just something that.
- 1:38But I will touch on this and I will say that I went to, there
- 1:41was a Bandit Republic store and an Old Navy store, and I went in
- 1:43and I was buying sweaters because I made an effort last
- 1:46year to purchase sweaters because I really don't wear
- 1:48sweaters or have sweaters Now I do thanks to last year's
- 1:52shopping. And I'm just bringing them out
- 1:53again. And anyway, we're getting deep
- 1:55into kind of unnecessary things, but they're like a couple.
- 1:59I do too. I do too.
- 2:01And if I. Just I just have to.
- 2:03A man from Sudbury is not accustomed to wearing or
- 2:06purchasing sweaters. Again, this is another mind
- 2:09blower, Jay. Maybe I was too many of them as
- 2:12kids, as a kid and I rebelled against them.
- 2:15I just didn't love the idea of pulling things over my head as a
- 2:18that kind of sweater, like, I don't.
- 2:19Wear turtles. Dangerous.
- 2:22It's true. They get stuck under there, dude
- 2:24can't breathe. Anyway, let's let's continue on.
- 2:29Before we get too deep, let's have our first shot.
- 2:31Yeah, let's go. You didn't say the first one was
- 2:33going to be in my honor, Jay. So I I can't wait to hear this
- 2:36toast. Absolutely.
- 2:37Because you, you know, we're ready to get ready to record.
- 2:40Suddenly you sent this going. I can't find the recording
- 2:44session in my calendar anywhere. You just assume that you had
- 2:47misplaced it. I had not set it up for you, and
- 2:50that was my mistake. And so, for being a patient,
- 2:53understanding person, I visited my local today and I picked up
- 2:56some of the original Tula Mordeu, one of our favorites.
- 3:00I haven't had it in the house for a while, and I'm going to do
- 3:02the first shot of the bottle. The first two really, but this
- 3:05one specifically in your honor, what have you got?
- 3:08Well, I appreciate you, Jay. And I'm sticking with the
- 3:10Bareface whiskey that we discovered some time ago at
- 3:14Whiskey Global. So it's still, it's still going
- 3:17and I absolutely love it. It's so tasty.
- 3:19Nice. Here's to you.
- 3:24That is delicious. All right, before we get too far
- 3:26afield, I do want to make mention of something that I'm
- 3:29very excited about. I could tell just coming in,
- 3:32just your energy is just there. I'm busting Jay Linda and I have
- 3:37procured tickets to see a hip hop legend who is coming to town
- 3:41before Santa squeezes his big old butt down the chimney.
- 3:46We're going to see $0.50. And I'm telling you right now,
- 3:51when he sings Pimp Live, there will not be a dry eye in the
- 3:55house because every everyone there is going to be the same
- 3:58age, late 40s, fifty, you know, perfect.
- 4:04And everyone knows that song. The fact that he incorporated a
- 4:07steel drum into a hip hop track has still never been replicated
- 4:11to my knowledge. And even if it were, it's never
- 4:14been done as well as he did it. So I can't wait.
- 4:18It's going to be amazing. He's coming to rebel.
- 4:21Only 2500 people, Jay. Yeah.
- 4:23Very intimate setting for a legend like like him.
- 4:28I mean, I think that's kind of probably what he's pulling these
- 4:30days, you know? He's now.
- 4:31Let's not be unkind. I don't want to be unkind and I
- 4:34got to say Fiddy sounds more like an executive producer Linda
- 4:38Lebrun choice that you are the plus one for.
- 4:41I would imagine she found this for you.
- 4:43No, I'm the one who drove the bus.
- 4:45Really. Yeah.
- 4:47For fiddy, what made you? Now, this is a shock to our
- 4:51friendship, and it's not often that a shock like this kind of
- 4:54rockets in and reverberates through.
- 4:56I would have never pictured $0.50 on your playlist.
- 5:02Yeah, nor would I have ever suspected that you had a had
- 5:04trouble buying sweaters. So this is just like that in
- 5:07reverse. That's just incredible.
- 5:09OK, it's shocking, shocking revelations is what you can say.
- 5:14OK, tell me, when did this love affair with $0.50 start?
- 5:18Was it cemented at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago when
- 5:20he made an appearance? I mean, I don't know if it was
- 5:23cemented then I always enjoyed his music, but I really love
- 5:26that song. Pimp.
- 5:27I got to be quite honest with you.
- 5:28To me it's one of the best, if not the Best Hip Hop song ever
- 5:32recorded. He's has a a whole bunch of
- 5:35other ones which I can't wait to hear live, But that one in
- 5:38particular, I, I just, oh, it always resonated.
- 5:42I'm not a pimp, but I can no put my my mind.
- 5:46You know, when you hear it, it's like you've been transported
- 5:50into this. We're all pimps.
- 5:51And you know, he was just, it's just an awesome track.
- 5:55It really is. And the steel drum you need.
- 5:58To hear it live. So I hope the steel drum is
- 6:00there because that is a central part of that song.
- 6:02I was asking Linda about that. She suspects it will be there,
- 6:06but it will be pre recorded because he's probably not going
- 6:09to lug the steel drum to Rebel Nightclub.
- 6:12Yeah, I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong, but we'll see.
- 6:15Me too, yeah. What are the seats like?
- 6:19There's no seats, it's general admission.
- 6:21Is it OK? Yeah, I.
- 6:22Don't know how general works. Yeah, there's no tiers of VIP.
- 6:26There is an upper level where you could get up to, but it's
- 6:29basically first come, first serve.
- 6:30But there's only 2500 people, so that's pretty, pretty cool.
- 6:34Like we're not going to see him at Scotiabank or some other
- 6:36giant venue where you might not even be able to see him.
- 6:38We're actually going to be able to see him.
- 6:40So you'll be there. You'll be right close to fiddy.
- 6:43We'll be right there and believe you me, there will be a full
- 6:46review at a later date once we enjoy that show.
- 6:49And Jay, it's cool. It's very cool to see somebody
- 6:52of this level at such a small venue.
- 6:55Now if you get close enough during a break in the songs,
- 6:58maybe you can ask him if he wants to be on the show.
- 7:01I definitely will ask. Him, yeah, flash the QR code so
- 7:05he'll love us on YouTube because we do wherever we go.
- 7:08We've got AQR code on our phones.
- 7:10Another idea of yours and executive producer Linda Lebrun,
- 7:13that's on our phones. If you run into us, please ask
- 7:16us and we'll be happy to, if you're not already a subscribe
- 7:19to our YouTube channel. You can become a subscriber
- 7:22instantly. And let me just mention it's
- 7:24100% free. Yes, it is.
- 7:27And I, I witnessed your magic with the QR code when we were at
- 7:31the Whiskey Global event. It was unbelievable.
- 7:34I was watching, I was on set at Glengarry Glen Ross.
- 7:37You were Alec Baldwin. You were closing and you weren't
- 7:40taking no for an answer, but you did it in the most polite,
- 7:44amazingly smooth way. You, you know how to finesse
- 7:46situations. That's what you're about.
- 7:50OK, well, you know what, Barry? Thank you for saying that.
- 7:53And let me say that we made some some friends there who have now
- 7:56we did follow us on our socials. They've commented.
- 7:58The Bareface Whiskey has commented because we've talked
- 8:02about how much we enjoy that too little more do commented.
- 8:05I don't know if you saw that they commented about.
- 8:07Yeah, because we talked about them as well.
- 8:09And so I think in their honor now, we should raise shot #2
- 8:13since we're drinking one from each of them.
- 8:15Sounds perfect. Bareface too little more do.
- 8:19Cheers to you. Hmm, that's so good.
- 8:25The notes are singing there. It's like $0.50 in my mouth.
- 8:29Well, that's awkward to say. Well done, I love that's all.
- 8:33You're going to say. I thought you're going to say
- 8:36like a like a Christmas, like an entire choir was in your mouth.
- 8:40That's what I imagine. Strange $0.50 Would it be in my
- 8:44mouth? OK, let's talk about something
- 8:46else. Let's talk about we not that
- 8:49long ago. In fact, it was just in our last
- 8:51episode, we were talking about Shin Godzilla versus Into the
- 8:54Mouth of Madness and Barry. We made the decision you watched
- 8:59In the Mouth of Mad in, in or into.
- 9:01It's just in. In the mouth of madness.
- 9:04You're into it. You could, you could say into.
- 9:06I mean, it's up to you. I just want to hear how did it
- 9:09go? A quick update for our our
- 9:12audience, including yeah, how did, how did the movie go?
- 9:15Did you? Was that the right pick for you?
- 9:17It really was. And thank you once again for
- 9:19taking on that enormous responsibility for selecting my
- 9:23entertainment for that evening. It was.
- 9:25What I'm here for, yeah. Yeah, in the in the mouth of
- 9:27madness. If you're thinking about picking
- 9:28it up in 4K, don't even think about it.
- 9:31Just go ahead and slam the buy button.
- 9:32It looks and sounds fantastic. There's lots of really cool
- 9:35supplemental material as I often I always sing the praises of the
- 9:40non disk swag that's included with arrow releases and this one
- 9:43is no different. I also.
- 9:45Watched Aero releases, we talked about my spawn.
- 9:47Fortunately, most carry on. Yeah.
- 9:50And for yeah, they, they kind of, they didn't deliver with
- 9:54spawn, but we also touched on that as 2000 reasons why they
- 9:57didn't do that. Yeah, carry on.
- 9:59Now let's hear about the other Shin Godzilla.
- 10:02Did you end up watching that at all?
- 10:04And do you want to? I did give a quick review to our
- 10:07audience on that. I will Shin Godzilla.
- 10:10I read somewhere that it was basically a remake of the very
- 10:13first one that came out in the 50s and and it is sort of that
- 10:18story. Nobody knows what this creature
- 10:20is. It somehow pulls itself out of
- 10:22Tokyo Bay, starts to, at first he's just kind of Slytherin, But
- 10:26as the movie goes on, it starts to evolve and then eventually
- 10:29takes the form of the Godzilla that we're all familiar with.
- 10:32But not at 1st. At first it's just kind of like
- 10:34a slug, almost where its arms hadn't even fully.
- 10:38Yeah, grown out, has a long tail, its eyes look a bit weird,
- 10:42but it starts to grow and become the Godzilla that we know.
- 10:46But it's very much the villain versus in -1 it didn't really
- 10:52have that. It wasn't so much the villain,
- 10:55if I recall correctly. Yeah, you can back me up on
- 10:58this. Yeah, well, I enjoyed.
- 11:00Like an anti hero. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:03So you did say, you know, don't have any preconceived notions.
- 11:06I I tried not to, but I did find myself thinking about the other
- 11:11movie. I got to be honest, there were
- 11:13parts of it that like this one was, it was very much kind of
- 11:16like a, OK, the militaries that they're in the war room, they're
- 11:19trying to decide what to do versus in -1 there was like that
- 11:23whole kind of story of the guy who ends up getting a sudden
- 11:26family after his own family had been wiped out.
- 11:29And so there was more of a like a heart in -1 versus this one I
- 11:34felt didn't really have a lot of heart.
- 11:36I didn't care about any of the non human characters and I
- 11:39barely cared about Godzilla. So I don't know.
- 11:41Yeah. How long is he a slug for in the
- 11:43movie? Much of it.
- 11:45Long enough that you start to notice Why is he still a slug?
- 11:49Yeah, I don't. It's like because you're paying
- 11:51for Godzilla, you're not slug of Godzilla.
- 11:54Like, yeah, that's what I would have thought too.
- 11:57So Shin Godzilla. Yeah, it's it's an interesting
- 12:01entry. Is it better than -1?
- 12:04I don't think so. I'd say it's three out of five.
- 12:07OK, well, I don't have to borrow it from me at some point.
- 12:10Sure, I do want to see it. As a competist, I wouldn't mind.
- 12:13Yeah, you can borrow it and you can just borrow it long term if
- 12:17you wish. OK, well said.
- 12:19All right, three out of five. All right.
- 12:21I think it's time for us to go, to RIP from the headlines
- 12:24because that's what we do. It's time to give you your news,
- 12:28our listeners and viewers. You've sent a few through again
- 12:31from our friends@bbc.com. If you're going to get your news
- 12:34anywhere but here, get it from bbc.com.
- 12:37All right, let's look at this first one.
- 12:39Barry Stone Tool Discovery suggests very first humans were
- 12:45inventors. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:48I thought that was interesting. Not just Cavemen, but actually
- 12:52like thinking like they're coming up with new things.
- 12:55They that makes it sound like they did something with purpose.
- 12:57How would you interpret that? Yeah, I think it completely
- 13:00makes sense because otherwise how did we get to where we are
- 13:03today if we didn't have our very, very early ancestors
- 13:07thinking? Like the very first ones.
- 13:10Like you know what I mean? This says they didn't discover
- 13:13it. They didn't like discover a a a
- 13:15a stone shovel, but they were in need of a shovel.
- 13:19They found something that sort of behaved like a shovel.
- 13:22Is what exactly? Yeah, Yeah.
- 13:24It's not the type of shovel that you might procure a Canadian
- 13:26Tire today, but it's something that could have moved dirt back
- 13:30in their time. What might they have called a
- 13:33shovel when they first discovered it?
- 13:35That's good. I don't know.
- 13:37I'm not even sure at this stage. They had language.
- 13:39They might have still been kind of grunting, and they might even
- 13:41still have been covered in hair. Like, remember that movie Quest
- 13:44for Fire? And they tried to.
- 13:46Yeah. So it might have been in that
- 13:47stage where they were just sort of grunting and pointing, a lot
- 13:52of pointing, I think back then. What about Hand Plus?
- 13:55If I had discovered it and I came to you and said, Barry, I
- 13:58found this thing. It helps us move the dirt like
- 14:00our hands, but it doesn't make our hands hurt.
- 14:02And I'm going to call it Hand Plus.
- 14:04What would you love? It I would have said.
- 14:06Cause shovel is not really there.
- 14:08Like it's a shoving the dirt. I get it, you're shoving the
- 14:11dirt. But hand plus you would have
- 14:13went, you would have supported me on hand plus if I would have
- 14:16pitched that around the village. I would have been so excited.
- 14:19I would have built the biggest bonfire in your honor.
- 14:21And you know, we would have had enormous pig roast in your honor
- 14:26because you came up with something before language even.
- 14:29And why would you have called it a bonfire?
- 14:32What made it a bonfire I'm wondering.
- 14:35Think of another good question. Yeah, what did that?
- 14:38What made it a bonfire? Yeah, What's a bon?
- 14:41I don't know, Like it's. Bon in French.
- 14:43It's Bon. Maybe French was the first
- 14:44language. It's a good fire.
- 14:46Yeah. And so there's like part French,
- 14:48part English, and that came together to form our language as
- 14:51a bonfire. Bonfire.
- 14:53I mean, I think we're really on to something here.
- 14:55I think we're really piercing together these things.
- 14:58I've got one more RIP from the headlines if we let's do that
- 15:00one as far as we can. Yeah, I think, I think we have,
- 15:03yeah. How about this?
- 15:04It's a question. Is this the world's wildest
- 15:08Airbnb? And it's a picture I'll show it
- 15:11of it looks like something floating in the Arctic Ocean.
- 15:16Yeah, I went a little bit of a touch beyond the headline for
- 15:19this one, Jay. That's actually in Greenland.
- 15:22All right. That's in Greenland.
- 15:23OK. Greenland.
- 15:25Something's floating a floating house in Greenland.
- 15:28And the you can Airbnb. You went beyond the headline, So
- 15:31what is it? Is this You can actually Airbnb
- 15:33it? You can, apparently.
- 15:35Now, I didn't go too deep. I just went deep enough to find
- 15:37out where the heck it was and it turns out it's Greenland.
- 15:41Or Greenland, if you will. Yeah, would you ever Airbnb a
- 15:45floating house in a glacial area?
- 15:48I think I'm not opposed to it, I've never Airbnb anything but I
- 15:52would be open to it. That's interesting.
- 15:55Yeah, never, never. Aldo Roman and I have executive
- 15:58producer Aldo Roman. I did in the Cayman Islands in
- 16:012020, right before the pandemic, literally days before the
- 16:06pandemic descended on us. Rented.
- 16:08Yeah, it was. This was like a professional
- 16:10Airbnb or where they had, yeah, a unit in a condo and they just
- 16:13rented it out again and again and again.
- 16:15It was a nice experience, actually.
- 16:16We didn't have a problem with it.
- 16:17Well, that's cool. So it wasn't.
- 16:19Floating. Yeah, It wasn't floating.
- 16:20It wasn't floating. Yeah.
- 16:21So one more step. How do you get I wonder how you
- 16:24get to an Airbnb that's floating in the water.
- 16:27How would you? I would imagine you'd either
- 16:28paddle or you'd get there by some kind of one of those
- 16:30biplanes that have the pontoons so you can land in the in the
- 16:34lake. Yeah.
- 16:35Now, could you Uber that? Imagine that you Uber a pontoon
- 16:39plane and then you Airbnb a house.
- 16:42Yeah. Floating in Greenland, they
- 16:44might have that, or else how else would you do it?
- 16:46And then you skip the dishes in some dinner.
- 16:49Like you're doing everything on apps, delivery apps, residential
- 16:53apps, traveling apps. I'm, I'm, I'm going beyond the
- 16:56headline with you here. Yeah, you certainly are.
- 16:58Yeah. Yeah, you could have some, you
- 17:00know, barbecued reindeer in Greenland because I think that's
- 17:02one of the things that they they do enjoy up there.
- 17:05They do they BBQ reindeer I. Don't know if it's BBQ, I assume
- 17:08that it is. You could.
- 17:10I think fire is involved in the cooking at some point.
- 17:14Maybe not a not a bonfire and everyone is still trying to
- 17:17figure out tools and they're all covered in hair.
- 17:20Yeah, the end. Hand plus, I think that's what
- 17:22we're going to call the shelf and the.
- 17:23Plus, that should be the name of this episode.
- 17:26It might be, yeah. Well, Jay, I think that is our
- 17:29time once again. There's so many things we can
- 17:32cannot wait. I should say, to touch on for
- 17:35the future. We know there's a lot happening.
- 17:37We're not able to say anything. We have a gag order in effect,
- 17:41but some super exciting things are happening here and I can't
- 17:44wait to to buckle in and join you for that.
- 17:48We should mention that the movie guy is returning for a a future
- 17:54review and we're going to be talking about Do you want to
- 17:57talk about? Yeah, it's the new Predator
- 17:59movie. It's actually going to be our
- 18:00very next episode that comes out.
- 18:02This movie's been out for Yeah, Badlands.
- 18:05This movie's been out for a little while now.
- 18:07You guys checked it out, you went to see it, and now you're
- 18:10going to be ready. You've formulated an opinion and
- 18:13you're going to be ready to share that with our audience.
- 18:17Yes. Should they check it out?
- 18:18Should they not check it out? Is this something, maybe it's a
- 18:20holiday movie, I don't know. You're going to tell us once
- 18:23again, I haven't seen it. So I'm going to rely on you and
- 18:26the movie guy, Rob Peetz, very next episode.
- 18:28It's coming up. We can't wait.
