- 0:14Speaker 1: What up, people? Playoffs, KP. We got playoffs. We got
- 0:18Speaker 1: playoffs on Major League Baseball, and I am super excited.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We had four games yesterday, KP. Four. That's why Scott
- 0:24Speaker 1: couldn't make it today because he is recovering from his
- 0:28Speaker 1: four-game hiatus of having to stay up all night and
- 0:31Speaker 1: watch some of these games. He could have turned the
- 0:33Speaker 1: Padres game off after about the first pitch of the
- 0:35Speaker 1: bottom of the first because after Fernando Tatis went deep
- 0:39Speaker 1: and pca could not catch that that game was over
- 0:42Speaker 1: especially with the way michael king was throwing 98 mile
- 0:43Speaker 1: an hour right turn collide balls that were going unbelievable
- 0:47Speaker 1: right so uh it was great but before i mean
- 0:50Speaker 1: i don't even know what to say about what he
- 0:51Speaker 1: was doing.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah i mean michael king i mean i remember facing
- 0:54Speaker 2: him when he was with the yankees and he was
- 0:56Speaker 2: just kind of a guy they bring out of the
- 0:57Speaker 2: bullpen and you're like i've never seen a pitch move
- 1:00Speaker 2: like that before so it doesn't surprise me that he's
- 1:04Speaker 2: gone on to find the success that he's had but
- 1:07Speaker 2: I mean, it's crazy. I mean, it feels like you're
- 1:09Speaker 2: facing left-handed sliders. Like, I've never seen a fastball move
- 1:13Speaker 2: like that. And to your point, you know, one pitch
- 1:15Speaker 2: into the game, Petco was absolutely rocking yesterday. I mean,
- 1:22Speaker 2: what a difference that would have made in the game.
- 1:24Speaker 2: What if PCA goes up and robs that home run?
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know, like a completely different ball game. But the
- 1:29Speaker 2: fact that first pitch, home run, you know, that's pretty
- 1:33Speaker 2: much all Michael King needed to shut out the Cubs.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it was nasty.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It was nasty. By the way, before we go charge
- 1:38Speaker 1: the mound, let's hear what Matt Olsen had to say.
- 1:40Speaker 1: When your former teammates and when your former team and
- 1:42Speaker 1: my former team, the Braves, you didn't really love the
- 1:45Speaker 1: start time, Mr. DKP. I'd say see if you can
- 1:49Speaker 1: call in sick to work tomorrow and let's try to
- 1:52Speaker 1: fill it out and get some more.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, listen, I played in the White Sox
- 1:59Speaker 1: and I played on the Twins and we made the playoffs.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Except for the year we played the Yankees. We played
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Yankees one year in the playoffs. We got those
- 2:05Speaker 1: primetime games. But when we played other teams, we played
- 2:08Speaker 1: Oakland one year in 2002 and in Moneyball, we got
- 2:10Speaker 1: bad start times, right? We played the Angels in the LCS.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We didn't get great start times because you're playing them.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And then, you know, we played a day game against
- 2:19Speaker 1: the Red Sox one time in the LDS back in 2005.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So I understand his complaint. But you know what also, KP?
- 2:25Speaker 1: You know who pays your salary? The networks. And you
- 2:27Speaker 1: know what the networks want? They want the teams who
- 2:29Speaker 1: draw the most eyeballs to get the primetime games. And
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Matt Olson. Yes, I hope more people show up.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I hope everyone shows up. But this is the way
- 2:40Speaker 1: networks do it as someone that's in a network TV
- 2:42Speaker 1: job now.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I want you to explain that to the
- 2:45Speaker 2: audience because obviously you have an inside take because you
- 2:48Speaker 2: do work for a network.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And obviously we are former players.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And I do remember– being the number one seed in
- 2:53Speaker 2: the American league with the Toronto blue Jays. And we
- 2:56Speaker 2: had to go to, or yeah, we went to Kansas
- 2:59Speaker 2: city to play and our start times were when we
- 3:01Speaker 2: started in Toronto and then went to Kansas city. We
- 3:03Speaker 2: were playing those like four o'clock, five o'clock start times
- 3:06Speaker 2: with the worst shadows you could ever imagine.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It's just the way it goes.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And I know you kind of in our, in our meeting, um,
- 3:14Speaker 2: you kind of went off on it a little bit.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So I do want you to explain that a little bit.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But as a friend of mine and as a former
- 3:20Speaker 2: teammate and someone that I respect, I know exactly what
- 3:23Speaker 2: he was saying. He wasn't necessarily getting into the nitty
- 3:27Speaker 2: gritty of the way TV works and asking for a
- 3:30Speaker 2: better time. He was just simply calling for the Atlanta
- 3:33Speaker 2: fans to take a sick day at work because you
- 3:36Speaker 2: work so freaking hard in this game to not only
- 3:40Speaker 2: get your team into the postseason, but to have a
- 3:42Speaker 2: chance to host a home playoff series in the wild
- 3:45Speaker 2: card and for them not to sell out.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And rightfully so. I mean, people have lives.
- 3:49Speaker 2: They got to put food on the table for their families.
- 3:51Speaker 2: They got kids in school, but you know, there's certain
- 3:54Speaker 2: things in life that you save those sick days for,
- 3:58Speaker 2: or you just take your kids out of school and
- 4:00Speaker 2: understand that, you know, they'll make up their work the
- 4:02Speaker 2: next day. And I basically, that's what it felt like
- 4:05Speaker 2: Matt Wilson was just kind of pleading his case and
- 4:08Speaker 2: begging the fans of Atlanta to really show up because
- 4:10Speaker 2: they As you know, A.J., playing there, you know, when
- 4:14Speaker 2: that place is, you know, sold out and it's rocking,
- 4:17Speaker 2: they got a really good home field advantage there. And
- 4:20Speaker 2: going up against a team like the Phillies, they're going
- 4:22Speaker 2: to need kind of that 27th man as the fans
- 4:27Speaker 2: to kind of help them kind of push through in
- 4:29Speaker 2: this series.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Also, KP, let's not forget this. The Braves fans got
- 4:33Speaker 1: loud when Austin Riley hit that home run. It wasn't
- 4:35Speaker 1: like it was quiet. When that home run went out
- 4:37Speaker 1: of the park for the right center, that place got loud, loud, loud.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So there was a lot of people there. Listen, we
- 4:41Speaker 1: all wanted sellouts. We all wanted to be rewarded for
- 4:44Speaker 1: making the postseason. But unfortunately, you know, start time, 2
- 4:49Speaker 1: o'clock start time, even 4 o'clock start time in Houston
- 4:52Speaker 1: is tough, especially on a Tuesday afternoon. People have to work,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and I understand that. So listen, we all wanted sellouts.
- 4:58Speaker 3: You know that, KP.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I bet Toronto never had a problem getting sellouts, though.
- 5:03Speaker 2: No, there was a lot of people that took sick days,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know, and then I, you know, and that's the
- 5:06Speaker 2: other thing too, is it's not like a, it's definitely
- 5:09Speaker 2: not a knock on the Atlanta Braves or teams that
- 5:12Speaker 2: are there every year. But, you know, obviously the teams
- 5:14Speaker 2: that I played on 2015, 16 hadn't been to the
- 5:17Speaker 2: post season a long time. So it was like a
- 5:19Speaker 2: frigging holiday. It was like Christmas. So people were doing
- 5:22Speaker 2: whatever it took to go to the games. When you
- 5:24Speaker 2: have a team that's there every year, you know, sometimes
- 5:28Speaker 2: because of the start times, it becomes a little bit, uh,
- 5:32Speaker 2: maybe less important to take those sick days or miss
- 5:35Speaker 2: work or take your kids out of school. But yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 2: we all want sellouts. We work extremely hard to, it's
- 5:42Speaker 2: really what we all play for. We all play for
- 5:44Speaker 2: this opportunity to get to the postseason and try to
- 5:46Speaker 2: win a World Series. And even more so, we work
- 5:48Speaker 2: extremely hard to try to host playoff games like the
- 5:53Speaker 2: Braves were able to do this year. And given the
- 5:55Speaker 2: fact that they're hosting and they're playing their division rival
- 5:58Speaker 2: in the Phillies. But yes, to your point, you know,
- 6:00Speaker 2: I was sitting there watching the game. Man, I get
- 6:04Speaker 2: goosebumps thinking about it because Austin Riley is a dear
- 6:07Speaker 2: friend of mine and we know about the struggles he
- 6:08Speaker 2: kind of went through this year and.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Never made excuses, just continued to work.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And for him to come up in that moment, you know, when,
- 6:17Speaker 2: It could have gone the other way. And then you
- 6:19Speaker 2: start to think about, man, Austin Riley had a bad year.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Why is he in the lineup?
- 6:23Speaker 2: But for him to come up in that moment and
- 6:25Speaker 2: really send that place into a frenzy. And I don't know, AJ,
- 6:28Speaker 2: if you saw kind of the videos of people leaving
- 6:30Speaker 2: Truist Park to chanting his name. Incredible moment for him, man,
- 6:34Speaker 2: because were you around him when you were there?
- 6:37Speaker 1: He was a he was a young kid.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But he's he's just, you know, salt of the earth.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Great human being, great family man, works extremely hard. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 2: a guy like in that position could make all the
- 6:50Speaker 2: excuses in the world why things aren't going the way
- 6:52Speaker 2: they are. You never hear this guy make excuses. He
- 6:55Speaker 2: goes out post every single day, plays a great third base,
- 6:58Speaker 2: keeps his head down. You know, and when you're kind
- 7:01Speaker 2: of one of the faces of the franchise and you've
- 7:03Speaker 2: been the guy on your team, And you know, you,
- 7:07Speaker 2: there's probably tough conversations Walt Weiss had to have with
- 7:09Speaker 2: him about sliding them down in the lineup, moving them down,
- 7:11Speaker 2: trying to get them going a little bit. And you
- 7:14Speaker 2: never heard a peep from him. He just went out
- 7:15Speaker 2: and did his job. And I mean, I think yesterday
- 7:17Speaker 2: he was batting eighth in that lineup and sure enough,
- 7:20Speaker 2: his number gets called in that eight hole, you know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: against one of the best closers in the game. And, um,
- 7:26Speaker 2: the entire regular season is forgotten for him now. You know,
- 7:28Speaker 2: he's a, he's a post-season hero right now. Big swing
- 7:31Speaker 2: of the bat was able to talk to him after
- 7:33Speaker 2: the game.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And, uh, Incredible interview after the game, too. You know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he kind of just said, I stopped. You know, I
- 7:39Speaker 1: don't want to say he stopped trying, but he stopped
- 7:41Speaker 1: worrying so much.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And he said he just put it in God's hands
- 7:43Speaker 2: and said, hey, let's go up here and have fun. And,
- 7:45Speaker 2: you know, had a great swing and changed that series
- 7:48Speaker 2: with one swing.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Of the bat. Yeah, for sure. By the way, we
- 7:52Speaker 1: are monitoring our comments, especially Scott. Scott can be on Mars.
- 7:55Speaker 1: He's always in the comments on YouTube. So if you
- 7:57Speaker 1: want to make a comment, always drop your hot takes
- 7:59Speaker 1: and thoughts on our socials. Also, there's many foul territory, whatever.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Whatever your socials are, KP, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, X, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Blue Sky, whatever. How many of our socials there are?
- 8:10Speaker 1: There's so many socials I can't even keep up. Snapchat.
- 8:12Speaker 1: We've got them all. So throw your comments, throw your
- 8:14Speaker 1: hot takes out there. And right now we're going to
- 8:15Speaker 1: charge them out. He's charging them out. Fox One is
- 8:21Speaker 1: presenting us Charge Them Out, a great app. I love
- 8:23Speaker 1: Fox One because they also send me paychecks. So, KP,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I love Fox. I love everything that Fox does. The
- 8:30Speaker 1: Padres dominated it. Cubs last night listen this game was
- 8:33Speaker 1: over when I said that I mean literally when Fernando
- 8:36Speaker 1: Tatis hit the first pitch out of the park and
- 8:38Speaker 1: the atmosphere in San Diego with what that place is
- 8:41Speaker 1: in the playoffs we haven't been there get your tickets
- 8:43Speaker 1: and go to a game in San Diego in the
- 8:45Speaker 1: playoffs it is absolutely incredible Tatis hits the home run
- 8:48Speaker 1: PCA nicks off his glove then Manny hits the home
- 8:51Speaker 1: run Michael King goes out you know doesn't give up
- 8:53Speaker 1: a hit until the seventh inning was in complete control
- 8:57Speaker 1: This is how the Padres have been playing. And this
- 8:59Speaker 1: is why a lot of people have said it's going
- 9:00Speaker 1: to be really hard for the Cubs to win this series.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And after that atmosphere and what Tatis did. And by
- 9:05Speaker 1: the way, he also went invisible. Remember, he stole second.
- 9:08Speaker 1: The ball went to left center, ran to third, ran
- 9:10Speaker 1: home and scored easily. Like Fernando Tatis is feeling it
- 9:14Speaker 1: in this postseason.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, without getting sort of into all the
- 9:17Speaker 2: details of the game, when you watch that game and
- 9:20Speaker 2: obviously hitting a homer on the very first pitch of
- 9:23Speaker 2: your offensive in the bottom of the first inning changes
- 9:26Speaker 2: a lot of things. But when you watched it, it
- 9:28Speaker 2: just looked like the Padres were a better team and
- 9:30Speaker 2: a hotter team. Like they came into the postseason with
- 9:33Speaker 2: so much momentum. They were playing their best brand of
- 9:35Speaker 2: baseball down the stretch. And the Cubs kind of, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 2: the Bregman thing was a little bit weird.
- 9:42Speaker 1: You know, they they.
- 9:43Speaker 2: A month ago or so, they were kind of nipping
- 9:46Speaker 2: at the heels of the Brewers, and then they kind
- 9:49Speaker 2: of went flat a little bit. It just really looked
- 9:51Speaker 2: like two different teams. It looked like a team that
- 9:54Speaker 2: you know, has so much momentum going into it and
- 9:58Speaker 2: just kind of embraces that home field atmosphere that they have.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And I mean, to get off to the start the
- 10:04Speaker 2: way they did, it was, like you said, it was
- 10:06Speaker 2: pretty much over after the first pitch and not to mention,
- 10:09Speaker 2: I mean, it wasn't even a first pitch fastball.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It was a first pitch changeup.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So it's, I mean, if you're Matthew Boyd on the
- 10:14Speaker 2: mound and you, and you know, you're facing Fernando Tatis Jr. Who,
- 10:18Speaker 2: I don't know what happened in the second half to him,
- 10:20Speaker 2: you know, from him being kind of a storyline of
- 10:23Speaker 2: not hitting any home runs for the first couple months
- 10:26Speaker 2: of the season, then ending up over 20 home runs
- 10:29Speaker 2: and just hitting the ball super hard consistently for him
- 10:32Speaker 2: to go out there and hit a first pitch changeup.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I mean, AJ, you would know better than me.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You know, you probably were in a, you know, a
- 10:39Speaker 2: pitcher catcher, a meeting talking about, okay, how are we
- 10:42Speaker 2: going to navigate this lineup? You know, Hey, maybe it's
- 10:44Speaker 2: a good idea. We go change up here. We know
- 10:46Speaker 2: Fernando Tatis is, super aggressive hitter, wants to set the tone.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And then he hits your changeup out. And it's like,
- 10:51Speaker 2: you don't know where to go from there.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Oh, true. But he also hadn't thrown a changeup to
- 10:56Speaker 1: start a game in 60 games. So it also, the
- 10:59Speaker 1: thing about throwing a first pitch changeup is what are
- 11:01Speaker 1: you changing up from? It was 89 and it was
- 11:03Speaker 1: right down the middle. So I always thought, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 1: first pitch changeup is tough. You want to throw a
- 11:07Speaker 1: first pitch breaking ball, first pitch slider, first pitch curveball,
- 11:10Speaker 1: maybe get a funky swing. But a first pitch changeup
- 11:12Speaker 1: without anything to change up off of is tough. And then,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and then I mean, Fernando Tati's great swing, and then
- 11:17Speaker 1: obviously Machado. And the Padres came out hyper-aggressive against Matthew
- 11:21Speaker 1: Boyd because they know he throws first-pitch strikes. They know
- 11:23Speaker 1: what throw it over the plate. So they were hyper-aggressive.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You saw in the first inning how they were swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And by the way, how about Joe Musgrove? Can we
- 11:30Speaker 1: give Joe Musgrove some love? Hadn't pitched in almost two years.
- 11:33Speaker 1: His first game back, ninth inning of a playoff game,
- 11:36Speaker 1: huge ovation from the San Diego crowd. That was pretty awesome.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Let's give some love to Joe Musgrove. Yeah. I get
- 11:42Speaker 1: some goosebumps, man.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I mean, he was a former teammate of mine coming
- 11:44Speaker 2: up in the minor leagues and obviously, you know, he
- 11:47Speaker 2: was kind of their guy early on before they went
- 11:50Speaker 2: out and made all these moves and acquired all these
- 11:52Speaker 2: guys and was able to get these superstars into San Diego.
- 11:56Speaker 2: He was kind of, you know, the face of the
- 11:58Speaker 2: franchise a little bit and obviously tough sledding for him
- 12:01Speaker 2: over the last couple of years. And I had just
- 12:03Speaker 2: gotten back from the studio here in Toronto and I
- 12:06Speaker 2: put on the game and what a perfect opportunity to
- 12:10Speaker 2: put him into a game. Not a lot of stress.
- 12:12Speaker 2: The guy hasn't pitched in two years. You put him
- 12:15Speaker 2: on the playoff roster. Petko was absolutely rocking. The game
- 12:19Speaker 2: was out of hand. And then obviously he got into
- 12:21Speaker 2: a little bit of trouble. And it can't be easy
- 12:24Speaker 2: not pitching in two years in a big league game.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Your first one's in a postseason game. He's a San
- 12:30Speaker 2: Diego kid. The ovation they gave him coming into the game.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And I love the fact that you know, they had
- 12:37Speaker 2: a good pitching or a good mound visit. He had
- 12:39Speaker 2: the bases loaded right there. He was able to get
- 12:40Speaker 2: the pop up, you know, and then you saw his
- 12:43Speaker 2: infield come in and kind of give him a little
- 12:46Speaker 2: bit more encouragement.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Like, we love you. You're our guy. Let's get out
- 12:49Speaker 1: of this inning.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And, you know, they had Mason Miller warming up in
- 12:52Speaker 2: the bullpen just in case to slam the door, but
- 12:55Speaker 2: good for Joe Musgrove getting out of that inning, throwing
- 12:57Speaker 2: up a zero, incredible moment for him, you know, a
- 13:00Speaker 2: ton of perseverance going into it. And for him to
- 13:03Speaker 2: you know, get a taste of the post season in
- 13:05Speaker 2: San Diego after two years of, of battling injuries.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Um, what a great moment. Yeah, it was awesome. And,
- 13:12Speaker 1: but real quick before we have to end a break,
- 13:14Speaker 1: this series over Padres sweep them tonight.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. I think just, I mean, that
- 13:19Speaker 2: offense looks really dangerous. Petco looks like an extremely difficult
- 13:22Speaker 2: place to win a game right now. And I just
- 13:25Speaker 2: think the Padres have kind of that it factor. You,
- 13:27Speaker 2: you can't really explain it. You can see it, you
- 13:29Speaker 2: could feel it. Um, you know, you can't quantify it,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but I feel like they're a team on a mission
- 13:35Speaker 2: this year.
- 13:37Speaker 1: And by the way, they have all their A bullpen
- 13:38Speaker 1: guys ready to go behind Pavetta. I mean, they have Miller, Marajon,
- 13:41Speaker 1: everybody ready lined up. So if Pavetta goes to maybe three,
- 13:44Speaker 1: four innings, they might say, all right, we're going to
- 13:46Speaker 1: this stacked bullpen because they didn't use any of them.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So yeah, it's going to be tough.
- 13:50Speaker 2: You get a Pavetta, you get a Pavetta pitching almost
- 13:53Speaker 2: like a closer, like, Hey, empty out the tank. We
- 13:55Speaker 2: only need three out of you. We got the arsenal
- 13:57Speaker 2: of this bullpen coming in fresh. Didn't have to use
- 14:00Speaker 2: anyone yesterday. So it's going to be tough for the Cubs,
- 14:03Speaker 2: but obviously they're a great team. They put themselves in
- 14:05Speaker 2: this position. I just, I can't see a way the
- 14:08Speaker 2: Padres lose tonight.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:10Speaker 1: That breaks my heart. It breaks my heart to hear
- 14:12Speaker 1: someone else say that. So thanks KP. MLB on Fox
- 14:15Speaker 1: is streaming on Fox one. The post season is here

- 14:46Speaker 1: fun time. And we'll be right back with Sean McAdam.
- 15:06Speaker 1: nine strikeouts for chris sale can't blame him he gave
- 15:09Speaker 1: up three and runs well two of those were after
- 15:10Speaker 1: he was out of the game uh They came in,
- 15:13Speaker 1: Fuentes came in and gave up the triple to Real
- 15:15Speaker 1: Muto to cash in two of those runs that were
- 15:17Speaker 1: not his. Nine punches, one walk, six and a third,
- 15:20Speaker 1: vintage Chris Sale. You know, KP, you mentioned in early
- 15:23Speaker 1: Austin Riley heard those chants. That was pretty awesome of
- 15:25Speaker 1: Braves fans to chant his name like that and do
- 15:28Speaker 1: things like that. That makes a player feel like, man,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I didn't have a great year, but the fans are
- 15:31Speaker 1: still behind me. I'm going to ask you the same
- 15:34Speaker 1: question I asked you earlier about the Padres Cubs. Is
- 15:36Speaker 1: there a way the Phillies can bounce back from this?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Because they went to Johan Duran in the seventh inning.
- 15:42Speaker 1: he was going to have to cover three innings for him. Like,
- 15:45Speaker 1: is that even possible?
- 15:46Speaker 3: The closer?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it's crazy.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I mean, as you know, post-season is just a different game. You,
- 15:51Speaker 2: you do whatever it takes to win a game. And
- 15:53Speaker 2: it's one of those decisions that, you know, it's easy
- 15:55Speaker 2: to sit back the next day, arm, armchair quarterback it, right.
- 15:59Speaker 2: If it works, you're like, man, Don Mattingly, what a manager,
- 16:02Speaker 2: you know, puts his cojones out on the line, goes
- 16:05Speaker 2: with his best reliever, you know, pitches in three games
- 16:08Speaker 2: is trying to win game one. Um, And then you
- 16:11Speaker 2: look at it on the other side. It's like you
- 16:12Speaker 2: get to the postseason and you think about the guys
- 16:14Speaker 2: that they have in the bullpen. Did they have the
- 16:16Speaker 2: ability to bridge the gap one more inning? And then
- 16:20Speaker 2: is it reasonable for Duran to go 8-9? But to
- 16:23Speaker 2: ask him to go three innings is a bit crazy.
- 16:26Speaker 2: If it worked, he's a mad genius. If it didn't
- 16:29Speaker 2: work out like it didn't work out, we're sitting here
- 16:32Speaker 2: kind of questioning why he did it. But to answer
- 16:34Speaker 2: your other question, is the series over?
- 16:37Speaker 4: No.
- 16:38Speaker 2: These teams know each other extremely well. The Phillies have
- 16:42Speaker 2: Christopher Sanchez on the mound. Obviously, tough blow. And, you know,
- 16:45Speaker 2: in some ways, everyone thought the Braves were going to
- 16:48Speaker 2: win that game. They had Chris Sale on the mound,
- 16:50Speaker 2: and the Phillies did a really good job of kind
- 16:53Speaker 2: of wearing him down a little bit. Chris Sale was incredible, but,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you know, they were able to foul some pitches, get
- 16:58Speaker 2: deeper into the count. You know, they got him a
- 17:00Speaker 2: little bit fatigued. You know, obviously, a little bit warmer
- 17:03Speaker 2: day game in Atlanta. They got him a little bit
- 17:05Speaker 2: fatigued there towards the end. They were able to get
- 17:07Speaker 2: some base runners, got him out of the game. They
- 17:10Speaker 2: capitalized on a reliever coming in, Fuentes, a big hit
- 17:14Speaker 2: by JT Real Muto. But you've got to like the Phillies' chances,
- 17:18Speaker 2: you know, today with Christopher Sanchez on the mound. I mean,
- 17:21Speaker 2: he's been one of the best pitchers in the game.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Malley's been great, too, since coming over to Atlanta. But
- 17:26Speaker 2: if you just look at the pitching matchup, you know,
- 17:29Speaker 2: you've got to love Christopher Sanchez on the mound. But,
- 17:32Speaker 2: you know, what happens after Sanchez comes out of the game?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Who do they turn to in the bullpen?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Reporting live with the always happy and friendly Sean McAdam
- 17:45Speaker 1: from MassLive.com. Sean, you weren't smiling when we brought you on.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Is that because of the way Cam Schlittler went out
- 17:52Speaker 1: there and just dominated this Red Sox lineup? And then
- 17:56Speaker 1: the bullpen completely collapsed later in the game once Peyton
- 18:00Speaker 1: Tolley left? I mean, what's the feeling in Red Sox
- 18:02Speaker 1: nation right now?
- 18:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, AJ, people are understandably a little worried.
- 18:08Speaker 5: They're a loss away from having their season ended and
- 18:11Speaker 5: they're doing it on the road or have to do
- 18:14Speaker 5: it on the road in a ballpark where they've had
- 18:17Speaker 5: very little success lately in the post season. They have
- 18:20Speaker 5: not scored in the last 21 innings at Yankee stadium
- 18:25Speaker 5: dating back to the wild card round last year. So
- 18:28Speaker 5: the Red Sox need to figure it out in a
- 18:30Speaker 5: hurry or else you're going home.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Question for you.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Um, I don't know what was said after the game
- 18:38Speaker 2: in terms of why they took Peyton Tolley out. Was
- 18:40Speaker 2: this a kind of a pre-scheduled idea that he wasn't
- 18:43Speaker 2: going to see Ben Rice a third time? Or did
- 18:44Speaker 2: they see something in him where they felt like he
- 18:46Speaker 2: was kind of at the end of the rope?
- 18:48Speaker 5: Yeah, a bunch of different factors there, Kevin. Chad Tracy
- 18:52Speaker 5: said that at 83, he was starting to get up
- 18:55Speaker 5: into that territory where they were cognizant of it. He
- 18:59Speaker 5: did reference the fact that Rice had doubled the Against him,
- 19:05Speaker 5: two previous at-bats, and he was about to go through
- 19:09Speaker 5: the lineup the third time. They obviously had a rested bullpen,
- 19:12Speaker 5: but I thought it was a quick hook given how
- 19:15Speaker 5: good Toley had been. He had allowed one hit to
- 19:19Speaker 5: the last 10 hitters he faced, so there was no
- 19:21Speaker 5: evidence that he was running out of gas at 83.
- 19:24Speaker 5: I think they just thought they could take their chances there.
- 19:28Speaker 5: with some matchups to bring Miller in to face a lefty.
- 19:32Speaker 5: That obviously didn't work out three pitches in. And then
- 19:36Speaker 5: I thought that instead of chasing a win, which I
- 19:40Speaker 5: think you have to do in a best of three series,
- 19:43Speaker 5: I thought that there was a little bit of a
- 19:45Speaker 5: white flag wave by the Red Sox where they're going
- 19:47Speaker 5: to a bunch of low leverage guys with without a
- 19:50Speaker 5: lot of playoff experience in a game that is 2-0
- 19:54Speaker 5: after six innings. That was not out of reach, and
- 19:58Speaker 5: yet their choices to go with guys like Alec Gamboa
- 20:01Speaker 5: and Wyatt Olds, neither of whom had ever pitched in
- 20:04Speaker 5: the postseason, didn't reflect that scenario.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of stole my second question.
- 20:10Speaker 2: That was going to be my follow-up is you can
- 20:13Speaker 2: understand bringing Miller in there, the left-on-left matchup. But then
- 20:16Speaker 2: after that, that's what it kind of felt like covering
- 20:18Speaker 2: the game yesterday, that they felt like they weren't able
- 20:20Speaker 2: to get to Cam Schlittler and they went to kind
- 20:23Speaker 2: of some lower leverage guys.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Did he address that after the game? He did.
- 20:28Speaker 5: He talked about how, you know, they had Blackburn coming
- 20:32Speaker 5: into the game. He's been very effective in that middle
- 20:34Speaker 5: relief role or setup role for the Yankees. And he
- 20:38Speaker 5: thought if the Red Sox got any closer, they'd go
- 20:40Speaker 5: to Bednar to shut that down. He said at some point,
- 20:44Speaker 5: you know, that you have to win two more games.
- 20:46Speaker 5: And if you start going into your high leverage guys,
- 20:51Speaker 5: in this case, meaning Garrett Crochet, who would have been
- 20:54Speaker 5: an interesting weapon, and Garrett Whitlock, their traditional eighth inning guy,
- 20:58Speaker 5: and of course, Aroldis Chapman, their closer, then you may
- 21:02Speaker 5: be asking them to go three days in a row
- 21:05Speaker 5: in must-win scenarios, both tonight and tomorrow. But to me,
- 21:08Speaker 5: you got to get there. And as I said, two
- 21:10Speaker 5: nothing after six is too early to say, well, we're
- 21:14Speaker 5: not winning this one. Understand it was an uphill battle
- 21:18Speaker 5: on the road against the Yankees with a good back
- 21:20Speaker 5: end of their bullpen. But I thought they made some
- 21:23Speaker 5: curious choices with their bullpen deployment.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I was surprised when Tully came out this quick and
- 21:29Speaker 1: I kind of get why. But at the same time,
- 21:31Speaker 1: I was like, wow, that's a quick hook, especially in
- 21:32Speaker 1: game one. They're only down one nothing. It wasn't like
- 21:34Speaker 1: it was four or five nothing. I mean, you could
- 21:36Speaker 1: have saved some of your guys. And again, they didn't
- 21:38Speaker 1: use some of their high leverage guys, but still the bigger,
- 21:41Speaker 1: then I want to go to the next thing that
- 21:42Speaker 1: was questionable for me. And I don't know the answer
- 21:44Speaker 1: to this. Roman Anthony came out of the game and
- 21:46Speaker 1: obviously they had to pinch him on a stereo. And
- 21:48Speaker 1: at the time everyone's like, well, why is Monasterio hitting?
- 21:50Speaker 1: Is there more to Roman Anthony's hand injury than we
- 21:53Speaker 1: let on? And do we know what's wrong with Roman Anthony?
- 21:56Speaker 5: Well, it is the same general area that sidelined him
- 22:00Speaker 5: for about four and a half months this year, AJ.
- 22:02Speaker 5: So that's not good. He got shut down in early
- 22:06Speaker 5: May with something they thought was pretty minor, and it
- 22:09Speaker 5: lasted until the last few days of August. They went
- 22:12Speaker 5: most of the year without him, and now this has
- 22:15Speaker 5: reared its head again. There is some video of him
- 22:20Speaker 5: checking a swing at the Trop over the weekend in
- 22:23Speaker 5: game 162 against the Cubs, and you can see him
- 22:26Speaker 5: sort of flexing his hand after checking the swing. And
- 22:30Speaker 5: Monasterio told reporters after the game ended last night that
- 22:34Speaker 5: he had sort of been put on notice that if
- 22:37Speaker 5: Anthony had to come out of the game, he'd be
- 22:39Speaker 5: the guy taking over at DH. So it was obviously
- 22:42Speaker 5: something they were aware of. Anthony obviously thought he could
- 22:46Speaker 5: play through it, but with a check swing and his
- 22:49Speaker 5: first at bat in the first and another check swing
- 22:52Speaker 5: in his second plate appearance in the third, and then
- 22:55Speaker 5: a swing and miss to finish that at bat, he
- 22:58Speaker 5: couldn't continue. So this did not come out of nowhere.
- 23:02Speaker 5: They were somewhat prepared to deal with this. Otherwise, they
- 23:06Speaker 5: wouldn't have addressed that with Monasterio and put him on
- 23:09Speaker 5: notice before the game. This does not bode well for
- 23:14Speaker 5: Anthony and the Red Sox here to come out of
- 23:17Speaker 5: the game in the middle of a game one of
- 23:19Speaker 5: a short playoff series on the road against your rivals,
- 23:23Speaker 5: and you can't continue after two at-bats. I wouldn't expect
- 23:26Speaker 5: we're going to see him tonight, certainly. And if the
- 23:30Speaker 5: Red Sox can force a game three, who knows about
- 23:33Speaker 5: his availability there. But given this is an issue and
- 23:36Speaker 5: an injury that lingered more than four months and is
- 23:39Speaker 5: now resurfaced in the postseason, that's not a good sign.
- 23:43Speaker 2: You mentioned their offensive struggles even coming into the postseason.
- 23:47Speaker 2: What was sort of the vibe in the clubhouse after
- 23:49Speaker 2: the game last night?
- 23:51Speaker 5: Well, I think a lot of players were referencing the
- 23:54Speaker 5: fact that this team has been resilient all year long.
- 23:57Speaker 5: And indeed, they have been. They were 14 games under.
- 24:00Speaker 5: 500 as late as late June. They executed one of
- 24:04Speaker 5: the biggest turnarounds in franchise history. I think they're one
- 24:07Speaker 5: of four teams to qualify for the postseason after falling
- 24:12Speaker 5: as many as 14 games below. 500 at some point
- 24:16Speaker 5: during the season. But this is very different. They had
- 24:20Speaker 5: a long runway to try to turn things around and
- 24:23Speaker 5: salvage their season. They didn't start that 32-5 run until
- 24:28Speaker 5: late June, and they had plenty of time to make
- 24:31Speaker 5: up the ground. They don't have that now. It's win
- 24:34Speaker 5: tonight or go home, and then they face the exact
- 24:37Speaker 5: same situation tomorrow night. So they can point to the
- 24:41Speaker 5: fact that, well, we've dealt with worse, but they haven't
- 24:44Speaker 5: done it under these circumstances and with this small window
- 24:49Speaker 5: of urgency that they're facing tonight and tomorrow.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Sean, how much faith do they have in Sonny Gray?
- 24:57Speaker 1: He's been great against the Yankees this year. You know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: what is he? 2-0 with a 1-2-9 and two starts
- 25:03Speaker 1: against the Yankees. I mean, how much faith do they
- 25:06Speaker 1: have in Sonny Gray? A guy who, if you remember
- 25:08Speaker 1: when he pitched for the Yankees, people said, oh, he
- 25:10Speaker 1: can't pitch in Yankee Stadium and he can't pitch at
- 25:11Speaker 1: big markets. And here he is having an awesome year
- 25:13Speaker 1: in Boston.
- 25:14Speaker 5: He had the best year of his career, arguably. 18 wins,
- 25:18Speaker 5: an ERA of about 2-7. He'll probably get some top
- 25:21Speaker 5: five Cy Young votes for the season he had. And
- 25:25Speaker 5: he was very much in the running. to start game
- 25:27Speaker 5: one before they elected to go with Peyton Tolley and
- 25:30Speaker 5: sort of throw another lefty at the Yankees, a guy
- 25:34Speaker 5: with more swing and miss capability. Gray is not that
- 25:37Speaker 5: guy anymore. He's now 92, 93, maybe touch 94. He's
- 25:43Speaker 5: not somebody that's going to get a lot of swing
- 25:45Speaker 5: and miss, but he pitches well. in the truest sense,
- 25:48Speaker 5: and they feel good about a guy who's not going
- 25:50Speaker 5: to get rattled, who's been in big games before, and
- 25:54Speaker 5: has pitched well against the Yankees, including some games in
- 25:57Speaker 5: New York this year. He did not like his experience
- 26:00Speaker 5: with the Yankees in 17 and 18. He's been very
- 26:03Speaker 5: vocal about that, and he's probably going to hear it
- 26:08Speaker 5: from 48,000 fans in the Bronx tonight, but he's dealt
- 26:11Speaker 5: with worse before. They feel as good as you can
- 26:15Speaker 5: about their starting pitcher tonight, But starting pitching is not
- 26:18Speaker 5: the issue. They got a pretty good start out of
- 26:20Speaker 5: Peyton Tolley, even though it wasn't very long. Four and
- 26:23Speaker 5: two thirds, one run allowed. And they still ended up
- 26:27Speaker 5: losing nine nothing last night, in part because they couldn't
- 26:32Speaker 5: solve Cam Schlittler again. But also in part, this offense
- 26:37Speaker 5: has been kind of struggling since the beginning of September.
- 26:41Speaker 5: They were hitting about $ 1. 60 with runners in scoring position
- 26:45Speaker 5: for most of the month, and the only solace last
- 26:48Speaker 5: night was they didn't get a runner in scoring position
- 26:52Speaker 5: until the eighth inning, so they couldn't struggle with those
- 26:54Speaker 5: situations because they didn't have any. They've got to generate
- 26:57Speaker 5: offense in a lineup that is almost certainly not going
- 27:00Speaker 5: to have Roman Anthony and has a diminished Wilson Contreras
- 27:04Speaker 5: in it. He did not look good in his at-bats
- 27:07Speaker 5: trying to deal with that sore right hand last night.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I understand the strategy last night. It's not like they
- 27:12Speaker 2: had a ton of base runners against Cam Schlittler. And
- 27:14Speaker 2: you understand you want him to get his pitch count
- 27:17Speaker 2: up so you can get him out of the game.
- 27:18Speaker 2: But were you a little bit surprised that they didn't
- 27:20Speaker 2: try to steal some bases, try to force the issue
- 27:22Speaker 2: a little bit more, try to get guys into scoring position?
- 27:26Speaker 5: Well, they only had two base runners against Schlittler in
- 27:29Speaker 5: the time he was in through the seventh inning. One
- 27:32Speaker 5: punch single on a blooper from Adley Rutschman in the
- 27:35Speaker 5: second and a walk, I think, with two outs in
- 27:37Speaker 5: the sixth or seventh. So while they might have had
- 27:41Speaker 5: an opportunity to be more aggressive and try to rattle
- 27:44Speaker 5: them and play a base at a time and maybe
- 27:47Speaker 5: revert to the small ball that they used in the
- 27:50Speaker 5: middle of the summer when they were on that run.
- 27:52Speaker 5: But when you only have two base runners in seven innings,
- 27:55Speaker 5: it's hard to generate anything, whether it's on the bases
- 27:58Speaker 5: or at the plate.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Sean, I know Sonny Gray they trust in. How quick
- 28:02Speaker 1: will they go to Whitlock and Chapman? And those lockdown
- 28:06Speaker 1: guys at the back end, are they hoping for five
- 28:08Speaker 1: from Sonny and then go two and two with Whitlock
- 28:10Speaker 1: and Chapman if they have a lead?
- 28:13Speaker 5: I would think they would, you know, I think they
- 28:15Speaker 5: would hope to get six. Maybe that's ambitious given the situation.
- 28:20Speaker 5: But Gray can be an efficient guy and move the
- 28:23Speaker 5: ball around and keep hitters a little off balance. If
- 28:27Speaker 5: they got six with him, I could see them going
- 28:29Speaker 5: to crochet to start the seventh. They've activated him. They've
- 28:33Speaker 5: put him on their roster. They know he's not going
- 28:35Speaker 5: to start, but he is available out of the bullpen.
- 28:38Speaker 5: I find it hard to believe that they're going to
- 28:39Speaker 5: end their season tonight without Garrett Crochet at least taking
- 28:44Speaker 5: the mound. So I think that's the first guy they
- 28:46Speaker 5: go to, particularly if they can get him a clean inning.
- 28:49Speaker 5: I don't think even though he pitched in relief at
- 28:51Speaker 5: the start of his career with the White Sox, I
- 28:53Speaker 5: don't think they want to bring him in in the
- 28:55Speaker 5: middle of an inning with traffic on base. But if
- 28:58Speaker 5: they could get six or even five from Gray, I
- 29:02Speaker 5: think Crochet might be that bridge between to get them
- 29:05Speaker 5: four or five outs and get them to Whitlock in
- 29:08Speaker 5: the eighth and Chapman in the ninth. If they have
- 29:10Speaker 5: the lead, it's do or die. They've got to win
- 29:12Speaker 5: tonight or their season's over. So I would think it's
- 29:17Speaker 5: all hands on deck and you're going to get a
- 29:19Speaker 5: look at each one of those three high leverage guys
- 29:21Speaker 5: at some point in the late innings.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm not suggesting the Barry Bonds treatment, but did you
- 29:27Speaker 2: see enough out of Ben Rice where you feel like
- 29:29Speaker 2: they're going to be a lot more careful with him tonight?
- 29:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they have to be, Kevin. I mean,
- 29:35Speaker 5: he's a guy that's really done some damage against them.
- 29:37Speaker 5: He had a three-homer game a couple of years ago.
- 29:39Speaker 5: in a regular season game. He had two last night,
- 29:42Speaker 5: knocked in whatever it was, seven runs. Yeah, it just
- 29:47Speaker 5: seemed like seven. So they've got to be careful with him.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Without Judge in the lineup, Rice becomes the guy that
- 29:55Speaker 5: you can't let beat you. And I would expect they're
- 29:58Speaker 5: going to be far more careful with him And if
- 30:00Speaker 5: there's an open base, take advantage of that.
- 30:03Speaker 1: That's fair. That's fair. You got to win, Sean. You
- 30:06Speaker 1: got to win this game.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Yep.
- 30:08Speaker 1: No matter what happens. Whatever it takes to win this game.
- 30:12Speaker 1: When you go into these, that's the thing about win
- 30:13Speaker 1: or take all. Well, not win or take all, but
- 30:15Speaker 1: lose or go home games. You got to win. And
- 30:17Speaker 1: you know that and you do everything. And I think sometimes,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and it's not every manager, but sometimes managers that, and gosh,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I hate saying this, but younger managers maybe, they panic
- 30:28Speaker 1: a little bit sooner than the older event managers that
- 30:31Speaker 1: have been through some stuff and they're like, Oh no,
- 30:32Speaker 1: we're down one, nothing in the second. Let's get the
- 30:34Speaker 1: bullpen going and bring everybody in forgetting. They still have
- 30:37Speaker 1: to win another game. So thank you, Sean. Thanks for
- 30:41Speaker 1: joining us. You can smile. It's okay. Either tomorrow you
- 30:44Speaker 1: get to do another game or you get to go
- 30:47Speaker 1: vacation in a nor'easter. You get to choose. So either way.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:50Speaker 5: My, my options are unlimited at this point.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That's that's right.
- 30:54Speaker 4: That's right.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Sean. Check out more of your work.
- 30:56Speaker 1: All right, thanks for having me, guys. MassLive.com, Fenway Rundown Podcast.
- 31:00Speaker 1: We'll be right back. Stay with us. We're coming right
- 31:01Speaker 1: back with Sean's evil sworn enemy, Dave Sims, the Yankees
- 31:05Speaker 1: radio voice.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Seat Geek.
- 31:11Speaker 1: KB, Seat Geek. Here we go. Pick your game. Pick
- 31:14Speaker 1: your game, Seat Geek. You get to go to one
- 31:17Speaker 1: of the playoff games today. Where are you going? I mean,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I know where I'm going. I'm going to Houston to
- 31:20Speaker 1: watch the White Sox celebrate again, like we always do
- 31:23Speaker 1: in Houston. when we win playoff series there, but which one,
- 31:27Speaker 1: let's say let's, let's change this. How about this? Which
- 31:29Speaker 1: game will you be able to go to tomorrow?
- 31:32Speaker 2: Well, I want to pick the game that I want
- 31:35Speaker 2: to go to because the easy answer, a lot of
- 31:37Speaker 2: people think would be Yankees Red Sox, but I've been
- 31:39Speaker 2: fortunate enough to go to a post-season game in Yankee stadium,
- 31:42Speaker 2: but everything you've described and what I witnessed on TV,
- 31:46Speaker 2: I got to go to San Diego. That place looked
- 31:49Speaker 2: absolutely electric, incredible atmosphere. Um, I love the yellow towels
- 31:53Speaker 2: being waved everywhere. So if I had to pick one game,
- 31:55Speaker 2: I'm going to San Diego.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Okay. Which one? I mean, I'm going to Houston.
- 31:59Speaker 3: We all know that.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I played in Yankee Stadium in the postseason. I played
- 32:02Speaker 1: in Fenway. I played in a lot of these places. So,
- 32:06Speaker 1: you know, I played in Houston. I played on Atlanta.
- 32:09Speaker 1: But to answer your question, where is there going to
- 32:11Speaker 1: be a game tomorrow? Where's our game three tomorrow? Which one? Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I think Atlanta. Atlanta.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Because I think Christopher Sanchez on the mound is the equalizer.
- 32:19Speaker 2: And you know I love Atlanta, and I'm rooting for Atlanta,
- 32:21Speaker 2: but I think Christopher Sanchez is the equalizer. If you
- 32:25Speaker 2: look at that pitching matchup, and once again, I don't
- 32:27Speaker 2: know where they go after Christopher Sanchez, but you've got
- 32:30Speaker 2: to like your chances with Christopher Sanchez on the mound.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Okay, that's fair. That's fair.
- 32:36Speaker 2: And considering the left-handed– bats that the Phillies have in
- 32:43Speaker 2: their lineup, not having to face sale. They got a
- 32:45Speaker 2: righty on the mound. You like your chances of a
- 32:47Speaker 2: Harper or a Schwarber getting one big swing off in
- 32:50Speaker 2: that game.
- 32:51Speaker 1: You need someone else, though. You need somebody else to
- 32:54Speaker 1: do something on this team, whether it's Trey Turner, who
- 32:56Speaker 1: you're paying a lot of money to, whether it's Alec Boehm,
- 32:59Speaker 1: who did have one big hit yesterday. JT's got to
- 33:01Speaker 1: step up. It's got to be somebody else not named
- 33:04Speaker 1: Schwarber and Harper. Everyone every time you Everyone goes back
- 33:08Speaker 1: to the Phillies. They say, oh, man, if Schwarber and
- 33:10Speaker 1: Harper get hot. What about Trey Turner?
- 33:13Speaker 3: No, I know.
- 33:13Speaker 1: What about JT Ramuto?
- 33:15Speaker 2: He's kind of gotten forgotten. He's kind of gotten forgotten.
- 33:19Speaker 2: And there was a time in the game where you
- 33:21Speaker 2: could have put Trey Turner in the top handful of
- 33:23Speaker 2: best players in the game. And Schwarber and Harper, it's
- 33:26Speaker 2: their team now. So Trey Turner has kind of been
- 33:28Speaker 2: the one who's fallen aside.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. And, of course– KP and I have
- 33:33Speaker 1: a code for y'all. You can use code territory 10
- 33:35Speaker 1: for 10% off your next set of tickets at SeatGeek.
- 33:38Speaker 1: That's 10% off any tickets with promo code territory 10.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Make sure you click the link in the description to
- 33:43Speaker 1: download the app and have the code automatically added to
- 33:46Speaker 1: your account so you can use it later. All right,
- 33:52Speaker 1: we're on the record. One of my favorite guys, Dave
- 33:56Speaker 1: Sims from the New York Yankees. I still think of
- 33:58Speaker 1: you as a Mariner. I'm sorry. It's hard for me
- 34:00Speaker 1: not to think of you as a Mariner.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Listen, Plus you called the perfect game I caught.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I know. Plus you called the perfect game that I caught.
- 34:06Speaker 1: So it's really hard for me not to think of
- 34:08Speaker 1: you out there. It's not even called Safeco T-Mobile Park anymore.
- 34:12Speaker 1: But you are the voice of the Yankees. We just
- 34:14Speaker 1: had Sean McAdam on from, you know, Boston side of things.
- 34:18Speaker 1: We wanted to get the Yankee side of things. He
- 34:19Speaker 1: was kind of downtrodden. He's a little sad, Dave. How
- 34:23Speaker 1: are we feeling on Yankee land right now? The evil
- 34:25Speaker 1: empire is feeling good, right?
- 34:27Speaker 6: Well, you know, you got two Massachusetts guys who just
- 34:30Speaker 6: got it done last night. I mean, Slitman was just ridiculous.
- 34:35Speaker 6: And Ben Rice, I mean, six ribbies, come on. And what,
- 34:39Speaker 6: four hits.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Guy was outstanding.
- 34:41Speaker 6: Look at that. 0-4-7, lowest ERA by a pitcher in
- 34:43Speaker 6: his first six careers starts against Blount. I mean, that's,
- 34:47Speaker 6: you can't make this up. I mean, that is a
- 34:49Speaker 6: dominating number. He did it last year in Game 3
- 34:52Speaker 6: in the clincher.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And he's a keeper. He should be the Cy Young
- 34:55Speaker 3: Award winner in the American League.
- 34:56Speaker 6: And You know, again, the Yankees continue to do some
- 35:00Speaker 6: prospering without Judge. And the pitching, the starting pitching, as
- 35:05Speaker 6: you guys know, has been outstanding. So I think that's
- 35:07Speaker 6: been the biggest calling card right now for these guys.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah, before we get into some of those details of
- 35:12Speaker 2: the game, when I was watching the game last night,
- 35:14Speaker 2: I want to get your take on this. When you
- 35:16Speaker 2: look at the way both of these rosters are constructed,
- 35:19Speaker 2: it just felt like the Yankees had answers for anything
- 35:22Speaker 2: that Boston was going to do out of the bullpen.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Do you feel the same way?
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty much.
- 35:27Speaker 6: I mean, they had the right-handed guys. I mean, Rosario
- 35:29Speaker 6: was brought in here to hit left-handers. He's been better
- 35:33Speaker 6: at it in the past, but he's had his moments.
- 35:36Speaker 6: Ramos didn't swing it well, but he's another guy that
- 35:41Speaker 6: can hit left-hand hitters. Bellinger, Boltzschmidt, no biggie for those
- 35:46Speaker 6: two guys. You know, Belly being left-handed, obviously. I thought
- 35:50Speaker 6: they had the right combination. Wells, Wells has been swinging
- 35:52Speaker 6: about really well lately. So, um, yeah, it was a
- 35:55Speaker 6: good blend last night. I thought it was a good,
- 35:57Speaker 6: a good mix. And then they got the whole left
- 35:59Speaker 6: hand platoon, you know, on the rest of the guys,
- 36:01Speaker 6: you know, on a bench. So I thought it was
- 36:03Speaker 6: a good setup.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I mean, talk about Ben Rice. I mean, I think
- 36:09Speaker 2: obviously this guy had 41 homers. It was an all-star
- 36:12Speaker 2: hitting the home run Derby, but He's still probably not
- 36:14Speaker 2: getting the recognition as a superstar. Obviously, it's Aaron Judge's team.
- 36:18Speaker 2: He missed most of the year, but you got a
- 36:20Speaker 2: chance to watch this guy every day. Tell us a
- 36:22Speaker 2: little bit about Ben Rice and kind of this journey
- 36:24Speaker 2: he went on this year.
- 36:25Speaker 6: You know what I like about him, Kev, that when
- 36:27Speaker 6: he's had down spots, it wasn't a freak out. You know,
- 36:30Speaker 6: he just kept grinding away and he'd take his base hits.
- 36:33Speaker 3: And then, you know, then you could sort of feel it.
- 36:35Speaker 6: Uh-oh, he hit a couple of balls hard and it's
- 36:38Speaker 6: going to get him in the air and look out.
- 36:40Speaker 6: And that's exactly what has happened two or three times.
- 36:42Speaker 6: His numbers speak for themselves. I mean, he's top, what,
- 36:45Speaker 6: he's in a top, five or six in multiple categories.
- 36:49Speaker 6: So there's so much to love about that kid. And
- 36:53Speaker 6: he's accepted a role that he's largely a DH and
- 36:55Speaker 6: not so much a first baseman or a catcher.
- 36:58Speaker 3: His offensive numbers are just stupendous. They really are.
- 37:01Speaker 6: And with Judge out, it just makes you sort of think,
- 37:05Speaker 6: think back and think ahead. Like what's it going to
- 37:07Speaker 6: be like if Judge, you know, if and when Judge
- 37:09Speaker 6: gets back to full strength.
- 37:11Speaker 1: All right, I got to ask the question. You keep
- 37:13Speaker 1: bringing them up. We're trying to avoid them, much like
- 37:15Speaker 1: the Yankees did in introductions last night. Why didn't the
- 37:18Speaker 1: Yankees introduce Aaron Judge? They introduced every other player. Why
- 37:21Speaker 1: was Aaron Judge not introduced? He's the captain. He's the
- 37:24Speaker 1: face of the team. What happened, Dave?
- 37:27Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 37:28Speaker 6: AJ, since I was a little kid, I've always enjoyed
- 37:31Speaker 6: postseason intros. I love the intros at the Hall of
- 37:34Speaker 6: Fame when all the old-timers come back. I was surprised
- 37:38Speaker 6: that he didn't take a bow. It would have been
- 37:40Speaker 6: a huge ovation. And I don't know, maybe they thought
- 37:43Speaker 6: they didn't want him to slip on wet grass or something.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 37:46Speaker 6: I thought it was a little unusual, to say the least,
- 37:49Speaker 6: especially since other guys like Weathers is not on the
- 37:53Speaker 6: roster and a few other guys who are not on
- 37:54Speaker 6: the active roster.
- 37:55Speaker 3: But they came out and, you know, did their thing.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Hey, very easy.
- 38:01Speaker 2: To get lost in the shuffle because of what cam
- 38:03Speaker 2: did and what ben rice did but talk about this
- 38:06Speaker 2: 21 year old shortstop playing in his first postseason game
- 38:09Speaker 2: having three hits scoring two.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Runs guys both you guys had great major league careers
- 38:15Speaker 6: this kid's off to a terrific start he's poised another
- 38:18Speaker 6: guy that doesn't freak out he had that stretch we
- 38:20Speaker 6: had an error in six consecutive games no biggie a
- 38:23Speaker 6: guy and again The constant that I keep coming back
- 38:26Speaker 6: to with George Lombard Jr. is the fact that he's
- 38:28Speaker 6: another guy that was raised in a clubhouse. His dad
- 38:32Speaker 6: played in the bigs, in the majors for a long time,
- 38:35Speaker 6: and has been a coach for a long time. So
- 38:38Speaker 6: he knows how to comport himself. He knows what the
- 38:41Speaker 6: life is like. He knows about the hard work. He says,
- 38:44Speaker 6: Bellinger said he used to take ground balls with Corey
- 38:47Speaker 6: Seager in LA.
- 38:49Speaker 3: So he gets it.
- 38:50Speaker 6: He comes with the whole knowledge Whereas a lot of
- 38:52Speaker 6: times you have to grow into, wow, I'm actually here.
- 38:55Speaker 3: He's been around it since he was your big.
- 38:56Speaker 6: So no, it's a, it's a great set situation.
- 39:01Speaker 1: By the way, Dave, I took just how old I am.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I've known his dad since high school. We took recruiting trip.
- 39:05Speaker 3: George. So there.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You go. You mentioned Lombard and Volpe. Volpe played second
- 39:13Speaker 1: base last night and, Jazz Chisholm came out and said
- 39:15Speaker 1: before the game, if he doesn't start, he's going to
- 39:18Speaker 1: be ticked off. Was Jazz ticked off? Because Volpe's been
- 39:21Speaker 1: playing really well.
- 39:23Speaker 6: I tell you what, since he came back and accepted
- 39:25Speaker 6: the fact that, hey, man, you're second baseman now. And
- 39:29Speaker 6: I know from even in my Seattle days, I liked
- 39:32Speaker 6: his game, but he didn't have a hit shortstop range,
- 39:35Speaker 6: but didn't have a shortstop arm. That arm is more
- 39:38Speaker 6: than plays at second base. He's athletic as heck. And
- 39:41Speaker 6: as for Jazz, he's a free agent. I understand he's
- 39:45Speaker 6: going to be ticked.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I get it. But I got to believe he'll be
- 39:49Speaker 3: in the lineup tonight, Jazz, because Sonny Gray's on the
- 39:52Speaker 3: mountain right-hander. But if he's ticked, in a way, I'm happy.
- 39:56Speaker 6: You want to see that competitive edge and everything. But, hey,
- 40:01Speaker 6: Volpe got a bunt down last night. The Yankees are
- 40:03Speaker 6: not a good bunting team. They don't call on it
- 40:05Speaker 6: very often at all. And he made the plays, got
- 40:09Speaker 6: a big base hit. So I thought he had a
- 40:13Speaker 6: heck of a game last night.
- 40:14Speaker 3: It's one game.
- 40:14Speaker 6: They got a collision here tonight. But Volpe, I tell
- 40:17Speaker 6: you what, he was he was public enemy.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Number one for the first half of the season. And
- 40:22Speaker 3: he got sent down.
- 40:24Speaker 6: And now, you know, with the human story of him,
- 40:26Speaker 6: you know, with the redemption, it's become a tug at
- 40:30Speaker 6: your heartstrings kind of story.
- 40:32Speaker 3: And everybody's into it here.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I love it. I mean, you lose
- 40:35Speaker 2: your job to a young guy. You go to the
- 40:37Speaker 2: minor leagues, play different position, come back. Incredible story. Love
- 40:41Speaker 2: the kid. Love what he's doing. What are your expectations
- 40:44Speaker 2: for Max Freed tonight? You know, all hands on deck,
- 40:48Speaker 2: or do you expect him to go deep into this game?
- 40:50Speaker 2: You know, I know he's kind of battled some injuries
- 40:52Speaker 2: this year. What are your sort of expectations out of him?
- 40:55Speaker 6: I'd look for him to go deep. His last three starts,
- 40:57Speaker 6: I mean, a couple times, he's had an inning or two.
- 40:59Speaker 6: I came last night, had that 22-pitch first inning, and
- 41:02Speaker 6: Rutschman was wearing him out with a 10-pitch A.B., And
- 41:05Speaker 6: Max has had a couple of those, but I look
- 41:07Speaker 6: for him to get deep in the game. He's a
- 41:09Speaker 6: guy that's got multiple pitches in his arsenal, knows how
- 41:13Speaker 6: to use them. He gets that back foot, was it
- 41:15Speaker 6: the back foot slider to right handers, if that can
- 41:17Speaker 6: be an effective pitch.
- 41:19Speaker 3: And then he can pop that fastball.
- 41:21Speaker 6: He's got the great changeup where he can drop it
- 41:22Speaker 6: down in the high 70s.
- 41:25Speaker 3: And he's a poised dude. He really is.
- 41:28Speaker 6: And as you know, World Series champion, gold glover, yada, yada, yada.
- 41:31Speaker 6: The guy's big time. He is big time. And I
- 41:33Speaker 6: look for him to have a heck of a performance
- 41:36Speaker 6: tonight because I just think the whole starting rotation, they
- 41:40Speaker 6: found their groove. I mean, Cole had those games where
- 41:43Speaker 6: he gave up a bunch of home runs. They were all,
- 41:45Speaker 6: for the most part, solo home runs. But, yeah, he's
- 41:48Speaker 6: found a way where he's gotten himself straightened out. Rodon's
- 41:50Speaker 6: been really good, speaks for itself last night. And you
- 41:54Speaker 6: got Max. I really like the chance to see he
- 41:56Speaker 6: goes deep tonight.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Dave, I have a couple questions for you. One of
- 42:01Speaker 1: them is, how surprised were you to see Stanton on
- 42:02Speaker 1: the roster? He hasn't played since April. Boom, here he is.
- 42:05Speaker 1: He's just there to get a pinch hit?
- 42:08Speaker 6: Yeah, hey, that one pinch hit, H, you know, hey, man,
- 42:11Speaker 6: if it's that one moment and you get it, you win.
- 42:15Speaker 3: He's capable. You've been around him.
- 42:19Speaker 6: He's as dedicated a guy, a terrific teammate, works his
- 42:25Speaker 6: behind off, man. And that's a card in Booney's back pocket.
- 42:31Speaker 6: Late innings, you need a gap or a home run
- 42:36Speaker 6: off a left-hander or even a right-hander if necessary. And,
- 42:40Speaker 6: you know, he can, what Coach used to tell me,
- 42:42Speaker 6: he said, he can kick a field goal for you
- 42:44Speaker 6: in a heartbeat.
- 42:44Speaker 3: So it's nice to have that in your weaponry.
- 42:48Speaker 6: And they've gone down to 10, 11 pitchers, so they've
- 42:51Speaker 6: got extra guys on the bench.
- 42:52Speaker 3: And I think that has a chance to play well.
- 42:55Speaker 1: That's fair. That's fair. Speaking of not playing well, Dave,
- 42:57Speaker 1: I mentioned this kind of when we brought you on.
- 42:59Speaker 1: You were in Seattle for a long time. Was it
- 43:01Speaker 1: cool doing postseason games? Because you didn't get to do
- 43:04Speaker 1: a lot out there in Seattle. So, was it pretty
- 43:06Speaker 1: cool to get to do? I mean, I'm not taking
- 43:07Speaker 1: a shot at Seattle.
- 43:09Speaker 3: No, no.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Was it pretty cool that? I'll tell.
- 43:13Speaker 5: You what.
- 43:13Speaker 6: Last night, yesterday afternoon, I told Susan Waldman at one point,
- 43:16Speaker 6: I said, I can get used to doing back-to-back-to-back playoff spots.
- 43:21Speaker 6: I had the one playoff spot was at 22 and
- 43:24Speaker 6: about four or five near misses. And I live here
- 43:28Speaker 6: in New York, even when I was working in Seattle.
- 43:32Speaker 6: You guys know the juice at Yankee Stadium at this
- 43:35Speaker 6: time of year, 48,000. They called it 48,000. If you
- 43:38Speaker 6: told me it was 60,000, I would have believed it
- 43:40Speaker 6: in the ballpark last night. And I was fired up.
- 43:43Speaker 6: And when Schlittler came out and threw a hundo on
- 43:44Speaker 6: the first pitch, I just like threw the roof.
- 43:47Speaker 3: But you're right. It's different.
- 43:49Speaker 6: Growing up on the East Coast in Philly, and knowing
- 43:52Speaker 6: Yankee history back in the late 50s, early 60s, and,
- 43:55Speaker 6: of course, the run they had in the 90s. Hey, man,
- 43:58Speaker 6: this is the real deal here. As I said yesterday
- 44:00Speaker 6: when I came on the air, this is the big stage.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Yankee Stadium, best address in baseball.
- 44:06Speaker 4: True, true.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I can't argue with that. And before KP asks you
- 44:10Speaker 1: one last question, Rick Riz, we had a plethora of
- 44:15Speaker 1: legendary voices in baseball, Mike Krukow, Rick Riz, Howie Rose.
- 44:20Speaker 1: A bunch of guys. I know you got to work
- 44:22Speaker 1: with Rick a lot out in Seattle. Is there anything
- 44:24Speaker 1: we should know about him and how awesome he was
- 44:27Speaker 1: for all those years out in Seattle?
- 44:29Speaker 6: He, you know, it's interesting. He is just such a
- 44:33Speaker 6: warm guy. And, you know, I come to Seattle in 2007.
- 44:36Speaker 6: I don't know anybody. I knew one or two people
- 44:39Speaker 6: at their tops. And we got to know each other
- 44:41Speaker 6: pretty quickly. He was very warm, embracing, hey, whatever you need,
- 44:45Speaker 6: this is how we do it here. Just the little things,
- 44:48Speaker 6: you know, when you go to a new team or
- 44:49Speaker 6: a new organization. And he's just tremendous. He's unbelievably loyal.
- 44:56Speaker 6: He calls a great game.
- 44:58Speaker 3: And he's fun. And we're the same age.
- 45:01Speaker 6: So we get each other's jokes and reference points and
- 45:05Speaker 6: ball breaking and the whole thing. And I enjoyed the
- 45:07Speaker 6: heck out of being with him for 18 years. I
- 45:10Speaker 6: don't know what took him so long. They're finally putting
- 45:13Speaker 6: him in the Mariners Hall of Fame, which is, I think,
- 45:15Speaker 6: long overdue.
- 45:16Speaker 3: It's well-deserved. And I'm very happy for him.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Is it over tonight?
- 45:23Speaker 3: I think so.
- 45:24Speaker 6: I don't, you know, I don't want to be too
- 45:25Speaker 6: New York cocky, but I think that, you know, if
- 45:28Speaker 6: they have the Roman Anthony being out that psychologically, that's a,
- 45:32Speaker 6: that's a dent.
- 45:33Speaker 3: It's not a big wound, but it's a dent. And,
- 45:36Speaker 3: you know, totally was really good.
- 45:40Speaker 6: You know, the second half of the season and they
- 45:42Speaker 6: got to him, they got to the bullpen and the,
- 45:46Speaker 6: and the, place as we were talking about earlier the
- 45:49Speaker 6: place is going to be on fire tonight man so
- 45:51Speaker 6: and i think max max knows max knows how to
- 45:53Speaker 6: control his emotions he's been in these big spots before
- 45:57Speaker 6: that's why you know and having you know but that
- 45:59Speaker 6: experience it's it's hard to hard to go against them
- 46:02Speaker 6: it really is.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah it's it's tough it's it's tough to win in
- 46:07Speaker 1: yankee stadium in the postseason we all we all know
- 46:09Speaker 1: that dave you mentioned especially with their pitching staff and
- 46:12Speaker 1: if those guys swing the bats and play defense the
- 46:14Speaker 1: way they did last night it's going to be It's
- 46:15Speaker 1: going to be tough for the Red Sox to win
- 46:17Speaker 1: the next two games. So, Dave, thank you so much.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Listen to him tonight. And give Susan Waldman a hug
- 46:22Speaker 1: for me because if you don't, she'll yell at me
- 46:24Speaker 1: next time I see her. So just tell her that
- 46:26Speaker 1: I virtually am giving her a hug, okay?
- 46:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Listen to you guys. What station are you guys on
- 46:33Speaker 1: in New York?
- 46:34Speaker 6: We're on WFAN and we're on Odyssey Radio. And you
- 46:37Speaker 6: can catch us on SiriusXM. All the Odyssey ball clubs
- 46:42Speaker 6: are on SiriusXM. And MLB app, so you can get
- 46:46Speaker 6: us worldwide, man.
- 46:47Speaker 3: It's all good.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Okay.
- 46:48Speaker 1: All right, well, game two tonight.
- 46:49Speaker 5: Thanks, fellas.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Dave and Susan, Red Sox versus Yankees, 8 p.m. Eastern.
- 46:54Speaker 1: That's what he said coming up next.
- 46:56Speaker 4: Thanks, Dave.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Thanks, fellas. Enjoyed it.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Hi, I'm Max. I'm here to pump you up at
- 47:06Speaker 4: the pump and save you big in the gas game.
- 47:08Speaker 6: So you're like a mascot for a gas station?
- 47:10Speaker 7: Yeah, I guess you could say that.
- 47:14Speaker 1: You're like a gas cop.
- 47:17Speaker 4: And you're a word nerd bird.
- 47:22Speaker 7: I'll give you $ 20 for that meat stick.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Nope. Okay.
- 47:29Speaker 1: $ 19. That's what he said. That's what he said. Presented
- 47:40Speaker 1: by Lorraine Coe. We got some interesting quotes here. Astros players,
- 47:44Speaker 1: a little bit mad at the Astros fans not showing
- 47:47Speaker 1: up again. Awkward start time, 4 p.m. Astros fans, honestly, KP,
- 47:50Speaker 1: you know this. They're spoiled, man. They go to the playoffs.
- 47:52Speaker 1: They've gone to the playoffs like every year. Here it is.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Astros fans calling into Houston Sports Radio, venting about players' criticism,
- 47:59Speaker 1: including being called spoiled. This is Jeff Agris. I love
- 48:02Speaker 1: he's a White Sox fan too, by the way. But
- 48:05Speaker 1: here's the thing. You go to the playoffs every year.
- 48:08Speaker 1: They're used to going to the LCS. They're used to
- 48:09Speaker 1: going to the World Series every year. You can't criticize
- 48:13Speaker 1: the fans, though. People spend their hard-earned money to be there.
- 48:16Speaker 1: You've got to just say, you know what, the 36,000
- 48:18Speaker 1: that were there, they teared their butts off for us.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But you know what, this game was over in the
- 48:22Speaker 1: first inning, so they didn't have anything to cheer for.
- 48:25Speaker 1: When your starter goes out, walks the first guy, you're
- 48:27Speaker 1: down 1-0, you walk the bases loaded, you don't give
- 48:29Speaker 1: up a hit, and you're down 1-0, guess what, KP?
- 48:32Speaker 1: Nobody's going to cheer because they don't know what to do.
- 48:33Speaker 1: And then you're down another, you give up another run,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and another run, you're down. You never had a chance
- 48:37Speaker 1: really in this game. It's hard for fans to get
- 48:39Speaker 1: behind you. So the fans over there I'm sure were great.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And I've done a lot of postseason games in Houston.
- 48:44Speaker 1: The fans get loud when the Astros give them a
- 48:46Speaker 1: chance to get loud. But they also are 81 and 81.
- 48:48Speaker 1: So I don't know how many fans actually believe this
- 48:50Speaker 1: team can make a deep run.
- 48:53Speaker 2: No, I think everything you said is fair point. And
- 48:55Speaker 2: first and foremost, you know, you like you said, you
- 48:57Speaker 2: walk the leadoff batter. You're down in the first inning.
- 49:00Speaker 2: There's really nothing to cheer about. And I think the
- 49:03Speaker 2: Astro fans have. become accustomed to a team that they
- 49:07Speaker 2: feel like can go out and win the World Series. Yes,
- 49:09Speaker 2: the expectations they're going to get to the postseason every year, check.
- 49:12Speaker 2: But they also feel like they have a team on
- 49:15Speaker 2: paper that they've watched all year that they feel like
- 49:17Speaker 2: they have a legitimate chance to win a World Series.
- 49:20Speaker 2: and for a long time they were getting to the
- 49:22Speaker 2: that uh the cs the world series and then they
- 49:25Speaker 2: look at this team who limped in on the last
- 49:28Speaker 2: day of the season you know 500 record and it
- 49:31Speaker 2: is what it is they just realize they don't have
- 49:33Speaker 2: a team very capable of going out and probably going
- 49:37Speaker 2: deep in this game. And obviously, you know, yesterday's not
- 49:41Speaker 2: having much to cheer.
- 49:42Speaker 1: About and booing.
- 49:43Speaker 2: And once again, fans have a right to feel the
- 49:45Speaker 2: way they want to feel and cheer or boo because
- 49:48Speaker 2: they're spending their hard-earned money coming in. But I think
- 49:51Speaker 2: this is probably a spillover from the entire season, just
- 49:55Speaker 2: frustrating that they have a team that they don't feel
- 49:57Speaker 2: like is going to go on and have a chance
- 49:58Speaker 2: to win a World Series.
- 50:00Speaker 1: No, I think, listen, they were pissed off about them
- 50:02Speaker 1: being booed. And I understand that you're getting booed, but
- 50:05Speaker 1: you're also– Didn't give me anything to cheer about. And
- 50:07Speaker 1: besides that, I don't know they were necessarily booing. Yes,
- 50:11Speaker 1: they were booing the players. But I think that was
- 50:13Speaker 1: a lot directed at ownership in the front office. Because remember,
- 50:17Speaker 1: they fired their GM, Dana Brown, there in first place.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Excuse me. They haven't extended a lot of these guys, right?
- 50:23Speaker 1: And so they also see, I think, a window closing.
- 50:27Speaker 1: And they're wondering, why didn't we add to this team
- 50:29Speaker 1: to try to make us better and get us a
- 50:32Speaker 1: better chance to go deep into this postseason. I think
- 50:34Speaker 1: it was more frustration not necessarily at the fans or
- 50:39Speaker 1: at the players, just at the whole organization in general.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And that's when you get into a slippery slope as
- 50:44Speaker 1: a player. Like you can't go after the fans. No
- 50:46Speaker 1: matter how badly you think I'm right and they're wrong
- 50:50Speaker 1: for booing us, it's a no-win situation. You know what
- 50:54Speaker 1: there are? There's 37,000 of those people showing up to
- 50:57Speaker 1: the game, and you're one guy. Yes, you have a
- 50:59Speaker 1: microphone in your face, but guess what happens? If you're
- 51:02Speaker 1: the guy that says, man, you can't boo us, they're
- 51:04Speaker 1: going to boo louder next time. So just say, hey,
- 51:07Speaker 1: thank you to the fans that showed up. We're doing
- 51:08Speaker 1: the best we can. They win game two tonight. Hunter
- 51:10Speaker 1: Brown goes out and pitches well. Then you know what?
- 51:12Speaker 2: Game three tomorrow will probably be a little bit more crowded. Yeah,
- 51:16Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes you've got to take the high road
- 51:18Speaker 2: as a player. And I think as much as fans, media,
- 51:23Speaker 2: You know, appreciate the honesty. You have to know as
- 51:25Speaker 2: a player, you don't have.
- 51:27Speaker 1: To say everything that you're feeling internally.
- 51:29Speaker 2: And like you said, sometimes you've got to take the
- 51:30Speaker 2: high road and just say, hey, I know we weren't
- 51:32Speaker 2: good tonight.
- 51:33Speaker 1: We hear you. We're going to come out and play
- 51:35Speaker 1: better baseball tomorrow. Come out and support us.
- 51:38Speaker 2: You don't got to talk about being booed and how
- 51:40Speaker 2: disappointed you are and being at.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Home and stuff. but I do agree with you, AJ.
- 51:43Speaker 2: I do think it is, um, a lot of what
- 51:45Speaker 2: you've said. I don't think it's directed 100% at the players.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I think anytime you fire a GM mid season and
- 51:52Speaker 2: you're a post season team, it just kind of feels
- 51:55Speaker 2: like not everyone's on the same page in the organization.
- 51:57Speaker 2: And I think also when you, when you are a
- 52:00Speaker 2: team that's been as successful as the Houston Astros have been,
- 52:04Speaker 2: and you're running a bullpen game, game one of a series, um,
- 52:09Speaker 2: you'd like to think that they would have done something
- 52:11Speaker 2: better at the trade deadline to give them an opportunity
- 52:13Speaker 2: to pair someone up with a Hunter Brown.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Agreed. And, you know, again, you never win by fighting
- 52:21Speaker 1: the fans. Ask Luis Robert. I'm still mad at him
- 52:25Speaker 1: for calling out White Sox fans, even though he couldn't
- 52:29Speaker 1: get on the field. So I'll never let that go, KP.
- 52:31Speaker 1: I'll never let that go until the day I die. Sorry,
- 52:33Speaker 1: Luis Robert doesn't play baseball anymore. I still might not
- 52:35Speaker 1: let that go, so. Also, another interesting revelation from Jordan Alvarez,
- 52:38Speaker 1: who had a chance to win the Triple Crown this year,
- 52:40Speaker 1: did not. He had a trainer that traveled with him
- 52:42Speaker 1: throughout the season. This is from Chandler Rome. In order
- 52:45Speaker 1: to make sure he stayed on the field and healthy
- 52:47Speaker 1: all season. I don't know what that means. If he
- 52:50Speaker 1: had a trainer in his room with him, stretching him
- 52:51Speaker 1: at night, making him get up and work out. Most
- 52:54Speaker 1: teams have a trainer or a strength coach or a
- 52:56Speaker 1: trainer that– multiple of these guys and girls that follow
- 52:59Speaker 1: him around and stay on top of people. But, hey,
- 53:01Speaker 1: if he hired his own trainer, he was in his
- 53:03Speaker 1: room with him and doing things with him. Good for
- 53:05Speaker 1: him because he had one hell of a year.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's something I've seen with other players.
- 53:11Speaker 2: And obviously, at some point when you make a ton
- 53:13Speaker 2: of money, that cost to stay healthy and have someone
- 53:18Speaker 2: work on you consistently. And once again, Major League teams
- 53:21Speaker 2: have great staffs, but they don't have the ability to
- 53:26Speaker 2: get to every single person exactly when you need them.
- 53:29Speaker 1: There's 26 players.
- 53:30Speaker 2: And you may have eight people between PTs, masseuse, you know,
- 53:34Speaker 2: athletic trainers. So obviously it worked for Jordan Alvarez this year,
- 53:39Speaker 2: hiring his own person to travel with him. It could
- 53:42Speaker 2: be someone that's stretching him. It could be someone that's
- 53:44Speaker 2: massaging him. It could be someone that's, you know, just
- 53:47Speaker 2: making sure his muscles are activated, whatever that person he
- 53:51Speaker 2: or she was, um, ton of credit for Jordan going
- 53:55Speaker 2: down that route, but also a ton of credit to
- 53:57Speaker 2: whoever that person is keeping them healthy all year. Cause
- 53:59Speaker 2: when he's on the field, arguably he's one of the
- 54:02Speaker 2: best players in the game. And the game's in a
- 54:04Speaker 2: better spot when he's on the field.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know if I've ever seen people have trainers.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I know people have had hitting coaches fly in. I've,
- 54:12Speaker 1: I played with some guys who had their, their, their,
- 54:14Speaker 1: we used to call them do boys. Um, that would
- 54:16Speaker 1: do a lot of stuff for them on the road
- 54:17Speaker 1: that would fly with them and they would get a,
- 54:19Speaker 1: get a connecting room to them and they would stay
- 54:21Speaker 1: with them. And just, it was basically someone to hang
- 54:23Speaker 1: out and do things with them, which I always found
- 54:25Speaker 1: funny because I'm like, yeah, 25 other guys on the
- 54:27Speaker 1: team and go hang out with, but Hey, certain people
- 54:29Speaker 1: wanted their friends around and they paid for it. So
- 54:32Speaker 1: it didn't bother me. And most of them were really cool.
- 54:33Speaker 1: So I didn't really care. But this is kind of
- 54:36Speaker 1: the new thing. Guys have chefs, guys have, you know, trainers,
- 54:39Speaker 1: guys have whatever they need to make sure that they're
- 54:41Speaker 1: ready to play the next day. Whatever it takes. Guys
- 54:45Speaker 1: are making a lot of money. There's a lot of
- 54:47Speaker 1: money on the line. So if this is what it
- 54:48Speaker 1: takes to get on the field, I say, I say
- 54:51Speaker 1: absolutely go for it. As long as your money in
- 54:53Speaker 1: the team's not, because here's the thing, KP, if I
- 54:55Speaker 1: was on the team and the organization was paying for
- 54:57Speaker 1: one guy, To just work with one person, I'd be like, hey, man,
- 55:00Speaker 1: what if I want to work with that guy? Listen,
- 55:02Speaker 1: I play with Barry Bonds. Barry Bonds has his own
- 55:03Speaker 1: team of people. But he paid for them and they
- 55:07Speaker 1: worked on Barry Bonds. I've just never if it was
- 55:10Speaker 1: a team employee, that's where I think it would get
- 55:11Speaker 1: a little awkward. No, yeah, for sure.
- 55:14Speaker 2: And obviously there's not a team employee. There's someone that
- 55:16Speaker 2: he that he hires. But when you really think about it.
- 55:19Speaker 2: You spend a good amount of time away from these
- 55:21Speaker 2: people in the offseason. You have a relationship. They understand
- 55:24Speaker 2: the way your body moves. A lot of us are
- 55:26Speaker 2: training with our own either personal strength and conditioning person
- 55:30Speaker 2: in the offseason. We have our own massage therapist. Maybe
- 55:34Speaker 2: we have someone that dry needles in the offseason. And
- 55:37Speaker 2: then that all comes to an end. And then you
- 55:39Speaker 2: go into spring training and you rely on the staff
- 55:42Speaker 2: that your team provides you for. Some people just have
- 55:45Speaker 2: a relationship with them. They understand how their body works.
- 55:47Speaker 2: And if they're able to stay healthy in the offseason,
- 55:49Speaker 2: if you can afford it and you want to go
- 55:52Speaker 2: down that route as a player, I think it's a
- 55:55Speaker 2: great option.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Agreed. Agreed.
- 56:00Speaker 4: All right.

- 56:31Speaker 1: We're joined by Patrick Mooney. Oh wait, that's not Patrick Mooney. Sorry.
- 56:35Speaker 1: We are joined by, I suck at saying your name.
- 56:39Speaker 1: I really do. So I'm just going to have you
- 56:41Speaker 1: say your name so I can hear it. And then
- 56:42Speaker 1: I'll still say it wrong. I say it wrong every time.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Even if it's phonetically– Sahadev Sharma. No worries. Sahadev Sharma?
- 56:52Speaker 4: Sahadev Sharma. It's a Dave at the end.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Oh, it's not Dave. Okay, so Sahadev Sharma. Okay, I'm sorry.
- 57:01Speaker 1: I see you. I love you. We give each other hugs.
- 57:03Speaker 5: No worries.
- 57:03Speaker 4: I apologize.
- 57:04Speaker 1: It's like a lot of people can't say my name,
- 57:06Speaker 1: so at least I can admit it. How about those
- 57:08Speaker 1: White Sox last night? Did we see that big win? Oh, wait.
- 57:11Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 57:11Speaker 4: I forgot where.
- 57:12Speaker 1: We're talking about the Northside. How about those Padres? Wrong side.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Let's talk Padres. Honestly, this was a perfect storm for
- 57:21Speaker 1: the Padres. Michael King goes out and just deals in
- 57:25Speaker 1: the first inning. First pitch changeup, Homer for Fernando Tatis. Next,
- 57:29Speaker 1: two batters later, Manny Machado goes deep. The crowd was
- 57:33Speaker 1: going wild. Did the Cubs do that wrong, or did
- 57:37Speaker 1: the Padres just come out and say, we're just winning
- 57:39Speaker 1: this game?
- 57:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't think anything went right for the Cubs.
- 57:44Speaker 7: This was not their plan a week ago. Kevin Gossman
- 57:47Speaker 7: got hurt and otherwise he'd have been starting this game.
- 57:51Speaker 7: If you go look at the way Craig Council uses
- 57:53Speaker 7: his pitching, he doesn't like to use guys on normal rest,
- 57:56Speaker 7: four days rest. He wants five plus days rest. I
- 57:58Speaker 7: think 105 of the starts this season came on five
- 58:02Speaker 7: plus days rest. That's his preference, but nothing has gone
- 58:07Speaker 7: right for the Cubs when it comes to pitching this season.
- 58:10Speaker 7: And they went with Matthew Boyd, who's been solid in September,
- 58:14Speaker 7: hadn't given up a home run in September, had given
- 58:17Speaker 7: up six home runs all season on his changeup, and
- 58:19Speaker 7: he gave up three home runs on his changeup Tuesday night.
- 58:23Speaker 7: The Padres are red hot right now. That offense, you know,
- 58:27Speaker 7: Patrick and I both have talked about this. That offense
- 58:30Speaker 7: has been scary recently. that Padres offense, and they jumped
- 58:34Speaker 7: out right away. Those superstars just clobbered the Cubs, and
- 58:38Speaker 7: Michael King was dominant. The Cubs had some opportunities in
- 58:41Speaker 7: the first couple innings to get back in this, but
- 58:44Speaker 7: they just couldn't get anything really going. They had a
- 58:47Speaker 7: couple base runners. Pete Cromstrong took a walk, stole a base.
- 58:50Speaker 7: Sarah Suzuki got on by error, but they just couldn't
- 58:53Speaker 7: hit Michael King.
- 58:54Speaker 4: He was at top form.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Speaking of PCA, I mean, he's obviously raised the bar
- 59:01Speaker 1: so high.
- 59:02Speaker 2: Did he say anything after the game about that play,
- 59:04Speaker 2: the leadoff homer for Fernando Tatis? Misplayed it, mistimed it?
- 59:09Speaker 2: lost in the lights or anything? Because once again, he
- 59:12Speaker 2: set the bar so high, you almost expect him to
- 59:14Speaker 2: make these unbelievable plays.
- 59:17Speaker 7: Yeah, we actually didn't get a chance to talk to
- 59:19Speaker 7: Pete after the game. He was out of there pretty quickly.
- 59:22Speaker 7: I think it was a frustrating night for him to
- 59:24Speaker 7: say the least. If you saw, there were a couple
- 59:28Speaker 7: check swings he didn't agree with. I think one of
- 59:30Speaker 7: them was a swing. Maybe one of them you could debate.
- 59:33Speaker 7: But Pete was frustrated.
- 59:34Speaker 4: And I get that. Pete gets frustrated.
- 59:37Speaker 7: I assume we'll talk to Pete soon, if not tonight,
- 59:41Speaker 7: tomorrow night, if there's a game three. I didn't get
- 59:47Speaker 7: a really clean replay on that. I was surprised I
- 59:50Speaker 7: didn't see a great replay. I'm not sure how close
- 59:53Speaker 7: he actually was. It was hard to see. From where
- 59:55Speaker 7: we were in the press box and then the replays,
- 59:58Speaker 7: I just did not see well. So I don't know
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: how close he actually was. I do agree with you
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: that it did seem like a little he was running
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: full speed. It wasn't one of those where he could
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: really full like time it up. But, you know, I
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: think if he could have that back, I'm sure knowing
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: Pete and the standard he holds himself to defensively, he
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: probably feels he could have gotten that one. But, again,
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: I didn't get the clearest view on the replay either.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: It looked like it might have tipped off his glove,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: and he was visibly frustrated. I mean, it looked like
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: it just nicked his glove. I mean, again, he was
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: going full speed. That would have been one of the
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: greatest catches you've ever seen if he catches it. And
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: it got the crowd going, right? What was the atmosphere
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: like in San Diego? I've been to San Diego playoff games.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I've seen it. If you haven't been there and you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: haven't lived it in person, how do you describe what
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: happens at San Diego, especially at nighttime?
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: Yeah, I've never been here for a playoff game until
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: last night. And look, Wrigley Field was crazy last year
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: during the playoffs. They equaled Wrigley Field. It was impressive.
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: I remember we were sitting in the press box kind
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: of just getting ready for the game. And the fans
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: were all standing up waving their flags. And we're like,
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: is the game? What time is it? And it was
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: still an hour to game time. And the fans had
- 1:01:18Speaker 7: showed up. They're waving their flags. They have hype videos up.
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: The fans were into it. You got to give them props.
- 1:01:24Speaker 7: It was a crazy atmosphere. I don't think that's any excuse.
- 1:01:27Speaker 7: I don't think that's anything that should impact the Cubs.
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: The Cubs, this is a veteran team that should be
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: ready to play in any environment. And I'm sure to
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: a man, they'll all say that. But that was an
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: impressive group of fans. I'm impressed with the way San
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: Diego fans showed up. I'd heard a lot about it, too.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: I'd heard it was... a crazy raucous crowd apparently so
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: patrick covered the padre series here earlier in the year
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: and he said i'm pretty sure that was in april
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: and he said the fans were all like crazy into
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: it back then so if they're into it in april
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: for a team that if i'm remembering correctly didn't get
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: off to the hottest start uh then you know this
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: is expected they they delivered yeah.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: They're great uh First of all, they're not like the
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Cub fans that show up in the fourth and leave
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: in the seventh.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: But also, how many beat L.A.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Chants?
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Did they start chanting beat L.A.? They could be playing
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: the Cubs. They could be playing the Braves. They could
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: be playing the Guardians. They could be playing whoever. And
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: in the middle of a game out of nowhere, you're like, wait,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: we're not even playing the Dodgers.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: What's happening?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: I didn't hear any beat L.A. chants, actually.
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: I hear the Green Bay sucks chants a lot at Wrigley.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: Well, they do. No matter who they're playing. Yes, we
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: can all agree on that one, AJ. But I didn't
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: hear any beat L.A.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Chants.
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: But I have heard that when watching on TV, the Padres,
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: I understand that, especially with Clayton Kershaw here. I'm surprised
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: they didn't they didn't wrap it up and try to
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: get under his skin.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Hey, losing a playoff game is never easy, but in
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: some ways when you get blown out, it's a little
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: bit easier. You give up a walk-off home run, you
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: lose by one, you could kind of micromanage everything in
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: that game.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: But the fact that Michael.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: King just dominated them, what have you seen out of
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: this team, the resilience, the clubhouse culture that gives you
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: optimism that they could force a game three in this series?
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: If you were forcing me to make a pick, I'm
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: not sure I'd say they're going to bounce back and
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: do well, but they have– they have done that all
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: season long. They had two 10 game winning streaks and
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: then followed it up with a 10 game losing streak
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: and then got hot again. And they didn't let it
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: sink them. They've had so many injuries to this pitching staff.
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: And yet again, there's another injury with Kevin Gossman who's
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: going tonight. Uh, it's a non throwing shoulder injury. Uh,
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: he thinks he can work through it. They, they continue
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: to push through whatever is thrown at them. Crazy travel
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: schedule lately because, uh, The Northeaster in Boston sent them
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: to Tampa right before the playoffs. They end up playing
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: a meaningless game in Tampa on Sunday because seeding had
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: already been decided. It has been a weird season to cover.
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: They have shown me that they're pretty tough and that
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: expect the unexpected. Don't assume they're down and out. Uh,
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: I am assuming that I have to be honest. I, I,
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: I just think with Pavetta on the mound and, and
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: how hot the Padres are, I have a tough time
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: picking against the Padres right now, but this.
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Team continues to show resiliency. I think you're, you're right.
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: I think, uh, the word that Alex Bregman used at
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: the also right around the also break was calloused. This
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: team has been through, has been battered, beaten up, uh,
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: literally with Bregman taking a foul ball to the face
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: about 10 days ago. And, you know, he's going to
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: want to bounce back after a really rough night on Tuesday.
- 1:05:03Speaker 7: He struck out three times, maybe six times all season,
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: swinging all three times only once prior to last night.
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: And I didn't look this part up, but I'm going
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: to guess he has not struck out swinging three times
- 1:05:17Speaker 7: at pitches outside of the zone all season long. He
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: does not chase. He's going to want to make up
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: for last night. Uh, I wouldn't be surprised if he
- 1:05:25Speaker 7: has a big night. Can, do they have enough pitching
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: to shut down the Padres?
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Uh, you're right.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: They didn't have to use a ton of guys, uh, yesterday. Uh,
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: showed him a dog is going to be coming out
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: of the bullpen. I wouldn't be surprised if you see
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: clay homes warming up in the bullpen. I saw David
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: Peterson stretching a little bit last night when it was
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: still a close game. Uh, Their starters are going to
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: be used as relievers, and they'll figure out game three
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: however they need to because it's win or go home.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Boo-hoo.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I feel so sorry for you, Cubs. Oh, we've got
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: to fly to Tampa and play a game. Boo-hoo. I just– man, sorry.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: My tears are flowing so poorly that if they just
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: would have won some more games, they wouldn't have had
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: to do all that stuff. But that's their own fault.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: By the way, you mentioned Kevin Gosman. And then you
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: mentioned game three. If they get five out of Gosman,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: is that what they're looking for? And then game three,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: would it be if, let's say, Peterson, Imanaga, Holmes don't pitch.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Would it be Holmes first and then Peterson? Who would
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: be the choice if it gets to a game three?
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: My guess is Holmes. It is really hard to figure
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: out with this team. I think they're all pretty even
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: and they all have their pluses and their minuses. My
- 1:06:35Speaker 7: guess would be Holmes if he's not used. And then
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: those other guys are, you know, going to be on
- 1:06:43Speaker 7: call and likely pitching and coming out quickly. I think
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: they'd love it if they can get five from Gossman.
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: I think it's going to be a quick hook. I'm
- 1:06:51Speaker 7: surprised it wasn't a quicker hook for Boyd yesterday. But,
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: I mean, four is a quick hook. We'll see how
- 1:06:58Speaker 7: quick it is with Gossman. I haven't covered this guy
- 1:07:01Speaker 7: for that long. It's been two months, and he's very even-keeled, soft-spoken,
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: and he's not the.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: Kind– he doesn't seem brash.
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: So maybe it's just the way he talks, but he's
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: not out there saying, I feel great.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: I'm ready to go.
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: I'm 100%. He's kind of like, we'll see. We'll see
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: how it goes. I'm ready to go, and I'm going
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: to give it my best. But it is not this
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: overly confident, complete, this shoulder.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: Is a non-issue type thing.
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: He's pretty straightforward and just says, you know, it's there
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: and I noticed it. We're going to see how it
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: goes and I'm going to try as hard as I
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: can to help my team win.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: That's how he's he's handling it. And to me, that
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: makes me wonder.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: Like, is it you know, is he going to be
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: able to give them what they need?
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: I know we want to talk Cubs here, but you
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: were in the building last night. Take me to that
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: Joe Musgrove moment, a guy who wasn't pitched in two
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: years coming out of the bullpen.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: How loud was that stadium? And obviously some things.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Are just kind of bigger than baseball to watch a
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: guy kind of battle back for two years and then pitch.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: What was that moment like?
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, as a baseball fan, I love moments
- 1:08:14Speaker 7: like that. And you heard it from the fans when
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: he was just introduced.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: They love him.
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: And I noticed just walking around the park, there's a
- 1:08:24Speaker 7: lot of signage with him on it. A guy that
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: hasn't pitched in two years, I guess I didn't fully
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: appreciate what he means to this city and how much
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: they love him. The fans must really love him. And
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: I think any fan base is going to appreciate a
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: guy fighting back like that and coming back and helping
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: their team out. do what, do whatever he can to
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: get back on the field. I get that as a,
- 1:08:50Speaker 7: you know, as a lover of baseball and, and just,
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: you know, understanding how hard these guys work. I talked
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: to so many of these guys rehabbing and, and it,
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: it really sucks to hear how lonely that rehabbing process
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: is to be able to be with your team during
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: the playoffs. and get on the mound again. That's a
- 1:09:10Speaker 7: really cool moment. And the fans appreciated it.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: They loved it.
- 1:09:13Speaker 7: And, you know, to be able to keep the Cubs
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: off the board and kind of seal that shutout, that's
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: got to be a nice feeling for him.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: And we'll see.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: I mean, I heard his stuff. It's hard to really
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: see his stuff from the press box. I heard it
- 1:09:28Speaker 7: looked good.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: From what I saw as far as the data, it
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: looked good.
- 1:09:33Speaker 7: That's great to see for him, if he can be
- 1:09:35Speaker 7: an impactful piece for this team. down the, you know,
- 1:09:39Speaker 7: over the course of the month, that'd be, that'd be
- 1:09:41Speaker 7: a fun story.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Is Bill Murray going to show up tonight? He was
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: there last night. So is he going to show up?
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: I assume so. I, you know, this is kind of
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: what he does, right?
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: Goes to sporting events, follows his son around in college basketball.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: And, and then he's he's.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: Going to be here.
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: I assume he's here tonight. He, he, I'd be surprised
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: if he's not. What else is he going to do?
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: This is a great life for him. Go have some beers,
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: and hopefully his team gives him something to at least
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: be a little bit more entertaining than last night.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Okay, that's fair. If the Cubs lose tonight, is this
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: considered a failure? I mean, they made the playoffs, I know,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: but the Brewers blew them out of the water in
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: the division, right? Yep. The pitching wasn't what the Cubs
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: thought the pitching was going to be. They had to
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: go get Holmes and Peterson and Gaussman at the trade deadline.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Is this year– I hate to say it's a failure
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: because you make the postseason, but maybe a letdown, maybe
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: a small letdown because of the expectations after signing Bregman
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: and the year PCA had. Yeah.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: And do they get to hide behind some of the
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: pitching injuries? Is that like a legitimate excuse? You know,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: you go out and get Cabrera. They had some injuries.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Is that also kind of built into the equation?
- 1:11:03Speaker 7: I don't like making excuses. Injuries happen. They were waylaid
- 1:11:07Speaker 7: by them. No Cade Horton. Justin Steele never comes back.
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: Ben Brown becomes like this huge amazing story and a
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: little linchpin for the rotation and he goes down for
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: the season. Edward Cabrera, ineffective and injured pretty much all
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: season long. That's four really big pieces of the rotation
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: or expected big pieces of the rotation that barely give
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: you anything over.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: The course of the season. I don't like I agree
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: with you, AJ.
- 1:11:36Speaker 7: I don't love using the word failure, especially when you
- 1:11:39Speaker 7: make the playoffs, when you have the type of season
- 1:11:41Speaker 7: that you did. it's immensely disappointing if they go out
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: tonight and it, and it's a waste of a historic
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: MVP season by PCA. One of, if not the best,
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: one of the best offenses in baseball by many categories
- 1:11:57Speaker 7: and far and away the best defense in baseball. And
- 1:12:01Speaker 7: you're also wasting an Alex Fragman season where he was
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: really rough for three months and then turned himself into
- 1:12:07Speaker 7: a top 10 player in the NL, uh, by the
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: end of the year. Uh, It is a waste of
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: a season. That's how I look at it. It's disappointing
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: that the pitching didn't come together. They had to piece
- 1:12:22Speaker 7: it together at times, and it was, hey, give them
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: credit for going and aggressively getting David Peterson, who had
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: a terrible season with the Mets to start off, and
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: then was great with the Cubs. They were in desperation
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: mode when they got David Peterson. They had three legitimate
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: starters at that point. It was a rough situation. They've
- 1:12:39Speaker 7: pieced it together. That they've gotten to this point, you
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: could make the excuse, if you want to call it that,
- 1:12:45Speaker 7: of the pitching injuries. I don't think they're going to say,
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: I don't think they're going to lay out that, especially
- 1:12:52Speaker 7: right after they lose. This team is not going to
- 1:12:55Speaker 7: want to make excuses. I do think it's real. I
- 1:12:58Speaker 7: do think it impacted their season significantly. They've got to
- 1:13:02Speaker 7: push through. Other teams do. And that they got here
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: shows their resilience, but they've not done enough It's one game.
- 1:13:11Speaker 7: They didn't do enough last night. It was arguably their
- 1:13:14Speaker 7: worst game of the season, just the way they looked,
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: the way they played, the way the opponent played. Yeah,
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: it feels like a huge disappointment if you waste this
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: defensive and offensive season.
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: It's going to be hard to replicate that PCA season.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, one of the weirdest stats they had, the best
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: defense and one of the worst ERAs or something. I forget.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's weird.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Always throws this weird stat out about the pitching. it's
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: a weird stat. Um, but you know what they say
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: in cub land, you miss Cthulhu. Uh, you know, you
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: got a hundred more years until you're there. So just,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: just keep grinding cub fans. Uh, we'd love you. Thank you.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: I'm going to try it again. Saw Dave. Was that
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: saw Dave? Was that, did I?
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: You nailed it.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: You got it. Perfect. Yes. Check, check out more of
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: his work in the athletic and at North side territory
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: on YouTube. He's got one more day to write. And
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: then after tonight he can go home and, uh, root
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: on the bears. So bear down, um, And we'll talk
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: to you later. Thank you so much. Enjoy the game tonight.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: It's going to be another awesome atmosphere. And honestly, I'm
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: rooting for game threes and all these series because I
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: think game three is, is awesome in the wild card.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: So thank you. And we'll talk to you soon. All right.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Take it easy guys.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Thanks for having me on. JJ Cooper came out here
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: and gave this graph that says how teams were built
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: in the wild card by B war B war F
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: war S war K war. I don't know whatever it is,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: but this is B war. Each team is built different.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: It's a pretty cool draft, you know, how teams were built.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: And they're all different. And that's what's great about this game, KP,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: is how different this game can be and how you
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: can build teams different ways. And some teams free agents heavy,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: some teams drafted heavy, some teams trade heavy. It's a
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: pretty cool graph.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: Check it out.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I don't know. What do you think? What's the best
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: way to build a team?
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: Well, I'm looking at this and I think, you know,
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: I had to get super close and stare at it.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: To your point, every team is built a little bit differently.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: But I think the common thing and I think a
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: misconception and obviously the Dodgers aren't on here, too, is
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: we make this assumption that all these teams just go
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: out and buy these players. But when you really look
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: at this, even like the Red Sox, a majority of
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: it is red and a little bit of blue, which
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: is the draft. But in order to make trades, you
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: probably have to draft guys. So those two things go
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: hand in hand. So I think drafting and having homegrown guys,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: whether you keep them for your major league roster or
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: you flip them to get major league talent is a
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: big part of it. You don't see any one team
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: in here. I guess the Yankees have the highest number
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: of free agents, but still the other portion is draft
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: and trade. So I think What I'm gathering from this
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: is you can't necessarily just go out and buy a
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: great team. I think some teams have the ability to
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: go out and spend more on players, but you really
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: have to draft and develop whether you want to insert
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: those guys into your major league roster or you flip
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: those guys for major league talent.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I agree. You have to have the ability to draft
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: the right players, sign the right players, and then if
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: you have players that you want to get rid of,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: trade for the right prospects to build up your farm
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: system and have enough to continue growing. the growth. And
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: I think that certain teams are better on the others.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I mean, Dodgers are definitely better, obviously spending, but they
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: also develop really well. Right. The white Sox have made
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: some really great trades over the years. I mean, the
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Garrett crochet trade, the nine players in their lineup were
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: from that trade alone.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Look at the white Sox breakdown on here. I mean,
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: a majority of his draft and then trade. And then
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: if you think about they drafted Garrett crochet and what
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: they got back from him, it's like, they go hand
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: in hand and, And yeah, it's a pretty cool breakdown
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: because you would think people, when you talk about all
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: the things that are coming up, salary cap, no salary cap,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: the ability for certain teams to spend. And then there's
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: a lot of big market teams on here. And you
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: look at it, a lot of it is still done
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: from trading and drafting. So it's not one team is
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: in here because they just went out and bought all
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: their players.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Slap hands. KP, you got a question for me out here?
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I just want to get your take on this
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: because we had asked about the Cubs. Is there a
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: season of failure if they don't win it? At the
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: end of the year, there's only one team crowned a champion.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: And obviously, as players, our goal is. But is it
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: possible for some of these teams to still have a
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: successful year if they don't win a World Series?
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, the White Sox. Yes and no. No
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: matter what they do, it's got to be success, right?
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Yes and no. Um, yes, it's, yes, it can be
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: a productive. I don't want to say successful because the
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: end of the day, the goal is always to win
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: the world series. I never went into a spring training
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: thinking like, man, finish 85 and 77 and almost make
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: the playoff. What a success. You know, the ultimate goal
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: is always to win the world series. It doesn't happen
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: very often. Um, but there are productive years, meaning where
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: you take a step, right? The white Sox took a step,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: but they're young players. Uh, the Padres have taken a
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: big step, but they're, the way they're playing right now.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: But for a team like the Cubs, Dodgers, and for me,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: I'm going to say this, the Brewers, if they don't
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: win the World Series, it's not a disappointment. But at
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: some point, you got to do it, right? And the Dodgers,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: it's World Series or bust. The Cubs are at the
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: point where it's kind of World Series or bust. And
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: the Brewers, honestly, I think are at a point where
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: it's World Series or bust. And the Yankees, too. The
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Yankees every year are going expecting. So can it be
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: a productive season for teams?
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Is it a disappointment? 100%. Sorry. No, I agree with you.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I think there are certain teams, you know, the Yankees,
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: the Dodgers, what the Brewers have been able to do recently.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: You could throw the Atlanta Braves in there. I'd say
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: the Phillies. But I think for teams like the White
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: Sox that no one kind of, had seen them getting
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: into this position. I mean, to some degree, the Houston
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Astros would just, I mean, obviously, you know, their recent
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: history says they should do better, but the type of
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: season they've had for them to like sneak into the playoffs,
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: potentially productive, but I wouldn't say successful. I did want
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: to leave you with one more thing, AJ. Someone in
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: our comments left this. I didn't know if you were
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: aware of this statistic, but with his start tonight, Max
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Freed is going to become the sixth pitcher in major
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: league history to start seven consecutive years in the postseason.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: joining Greg Maddox, Andy Pettit, Glavin, Kershaw, and Roger Clemens.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: It's a pretty good list. Pretty good list of dudes.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: It's a pretty good list. Yeah, and a lot of
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: those guys are postseason legends, and a lot of them,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: if they're not, I mean, some of them aren't in
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame for different reasons, but most of
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: them should be in the Hall of Fame. So, yeah,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: pretty good. Max Fried's a pretty dang good pitcher, by
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: the way. Speaking of pitching, did you see this about
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the Brewers? The Brewers– confirmed this is from our guy
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: kurt hoagie kurt hoagie hoagie how is it british lady
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: i get it wrong every time kurt hoag uh in
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: a stunning twist the brewers would go with jacob miserowski
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: in game one pat murphy says logan henderson lined up
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: for game two but subject to change murph said so
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: stay tuned uh change to who murph um logan henderson's
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: a guy who wouldn't trade for terry school had a
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: great year so is this the most surprising thing in
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the world that uh the ms is starting game.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: One Yeah, I take back everything I said about Pat
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: Murphy just being this manager that you want to play for.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: The decisions he makes, after making that decision, you have
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: to question everything else he's done as a manager, you know,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: because there's.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Clearly more.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Deserving people to start game one than the Mets. So
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: maybe a bold choice on his part going out on
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: a limb and starting the Mets in game one.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't know who else they would
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: have started. I mean, tough decision there in Milwaukee. Yeah.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: By the way, this is pretty good. Maybe a bullpen
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: game like the Astros and the White Sox did. Just
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: bullpen games. Start an opener. Start McGill and then have
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: the Miz close like they kind of tried to do
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: with them last year.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: It's just funny. This is Murph being Murph. By the way,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Dodgers will officially announce their starting pitchers until later in
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: this week. Yeah. Dave Roberts said Fabian Ardaia said the
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Dodgers will wait to announce their starting pitchers until later
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: in this week. I mean, Scooble, Snell, Glassnow, Yamamoto, I'm
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: pretty sure those four are going to be in there
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: for a five-game series. The bullpen is where it's going
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: to get interesting for me. But other than that, I mean,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: pretty tough choices again for Dave Roberts. Yeah, it's not
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: tough choices.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: I think how you kind of either split up the
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: lefties or the righties or you go lefty-righty, lefty-righty, however
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: you're going to do it. But, I mean, could you
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: imagine being a manager– And those are your four options.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: And you could just kind of close your eyes and
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: throw a dart against the wall. Whichever one hits is
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: probably going to be the best pitcher on the mound
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: for either team.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Yamamoto, Snell, Glassnell, Scoble. I don't know
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: who I'm going to pitch. Hey, Andrew Freeman, can you
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: come over here and tell me who I should pitch today?
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Because I don't know. Yeah, anyways, it's pretty crazy that
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: they're in this situation. Before we let you go today, KP,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: thank you so much. Scott and Kratz are back tomorrow.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us from another country. Don't forget
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: to subscribe to foul territory. We're on our mission for 300,000.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: We have videos all the time on any social YouTube, especially,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: but all the socials we have at all. Anything else
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: we need to know?
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: What else is there? No, no crowds out today. He's
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: not there. Post game tonight. Don't forget about the post
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: game tonight.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Give a little love to your White Sox. Give a
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: little love to your White Sox. I don't think you
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: gave enough love on this entire show. I know you
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: want to.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: What do you want.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: Me to say?
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: They're 1-0.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I picked them to go to the LCS. I mean,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: what else love can I? What other love? I mean,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: the Pope has given them love, right? I mean, I'm
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: giving them love. I said Colson Montgomery, number 12, was
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: going to have a big hit.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: You did.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: He went deep. I mean, what else? I don't know
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: what other love I can give the White Sox other
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: than gracing them with my presence, but I don't know
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: if they're ready for.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: I mean, they're just one of those teams when you
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: watch them play, it reminds you a little bit of
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: the way that the Toronto Blue Jays played last year,
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: just like really scrappy. They do everything right. They don't
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: give away at bats. They're a fun team to watch.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: I've really appreciated just kind of watching their turnaround and
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: really kind of believing in the process of having a
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: lot of these young guys, allowing them to kind of
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: go up, get their feet wet and Um, you know,
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: I expect them to win tonight. Hunter Brown's no easy
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: guy to, to go up against, but I just love
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: their at bats, man. They, they don't give in, they
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: scratch and claw. Um, and, and they actually had some
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: opportunities to blow that game open, uh, much earlier in
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: that game.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: Um, they had some missed opportunities.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I know Miguel Vargas, you know, rounded out the third,
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: the base is loaded right there, but they're.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Just really fun to watch.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: Agreed.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Um, ah, Tune into the post game tomorrow. Sam Antonacci
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: did the fallout of the Eric Kratz fallout out of
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: the dugout. We'll discuss with EK how much he got
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: paid when he did that for the Astros. Could be
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: the end of the Astros long run of being, going
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: deep into the post season. Just, just enjoy baseball while
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: we're at it. Just enjoy baseball. Everybody enjoy baseball. KP
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: enjoy doing your, your broadcasting up there. It's going to
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: be a great day tomorrow. Everybody smile and enjoy the
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: post season game. There's three games to go. And we'll
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: see you guys in the postgame. Not me, because it's
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: past my bedtime, KB, but Spilly and I think Scott,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: because Scott never sleeps. So you can tune in for, hopefully,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: as a White Sox fan, the Cubs funeral tonight. Turn
