- 0:26Speaker 1: join us at four o'clock. And Mike francessa, Oh, Mike
- 0:31Speaker 1: francessa Pope, yep, the Pope. Thank you, Tyler, Mike ont Acarfoe.
- 0:35Speaker 1: He'll join us at around four fifteen, four to twenty.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So big show today, big night. Last night in the NBA,
- 0:42Speaker 1: the Knicks got it done, a win for the Mecca
- 0:45Speaker 1: and they are now up three to two as that
- 0:47Speaker 1: series goes back to Atlanta for a game six. Is
- 0:51Speaker 1: he The most interesting thing for me last night, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: you and I have discussed this before, is just how
- 0:58Speaker 1: confusing and confounding Joel Embiid is. Because a day ago
- 1:03Speaker 1: we were wondering whether or not the Sixers are better
- 1:06Speaker 1: without Joel Embiid, and then last night on a court
- 1:12Speaker 1: which had Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, MAXI, all these guys,
- 1:17Speaker 1: the best player on the court was Joel Embiid.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I mean, it's just.
- 1:21Speaker 1: He's so confusing as a basketball play founding and confounding.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I don't know what the difference is.
- 1:26Speaker 3: But there is no difference. I just like they add
- 1:28Speaker 3: a second word for emphasis.
- 1:29Speaker 5: That's all it is.
- 1:30Speaker 4: You got to yes, but he is.
- 1:32Speaker 3: He's a confusing and confounding player.
- 1:36Speaker 4: And it's alliterative, so it's even better.
- 1:37Speaker 6: Yes, he is, Like I think we all know that
- 1:43Speaker 6: Joel Embiid is an MVP.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Like that's he's one one. He is that level of
- 1:46Speaker 4: player he is.
- 1:48Speaker 6: You know, we've taken for him for granted because he
- 1:51Speaker 6: was effectively the big man Unicorn before Victor Wmbinyama, because
- 1:55Speaker 6: you could put him anywhere on the floor and he
- 1:57Speaker 6: can do anything you want him to. And back when
- 1:59Speaker 6: he played defense, he was a great defender as well.
- 2:02Speaker 6: And so that's why, you know, I think I asked
- 2:05Speaker 6: this out loud yesterday or the day before yesterday, is
- 2:07Speaker 6: why did he have to take all the shots and
- 2:09Speaker 6: after coming back? And that's why because he's that good.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yes, Because what he's on he is as good as
- 2:14Speaker 1: anyone in the NBA.
- 2:15Speaker 6: What I loved about that game from him yesterday was
- 2:18Speaker 6: he got better as the game progressed. In the first half,
- 2:21Speaker 6: he was okay, he's like five for thirteen. In the
- 2:22Speaker 6: second half seven ten, eighteen points plus minus of twenty one.
- 2:27Speaker 4: And it's all off the dome, not really.
- 2:28Speaker 6: It was just on the TV right there, and so
- 2:31Speaker 6: you do all that and it's just like, oh, okay,
- 2:33Speaker 6: this is the professional Joel mb that I need on
- 2:36Speaker 6: my team. Just be efficient, don't take crazy shots, don't
- 2:39Speaker 6: play too lazy a defense. And he was actually contributing
- 2:42Speaker 6: on the defensive end.
- 2:43Speaker 4: He's the one who.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Talked about how they were sort of overhelping in their
- 2:47Speaker 6: previous game and their defense was bad. He was making
- 2:50Speaker 6: that adjustment, playing in the paint, defensively, recovering, and so
- 2:55Speaker 6: maybe he's figured it out and said knows how to
- 2:58Speaker 6: play in order to win.
- 2:59Speaker 4: But if this is the.
- 3:01Speaker 6: Joe El embiid we're going to see every night, yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 6: I mean the Celtics are going to be a little
- 3:04Speaker 6: scared going into Game six.
- 3:06Speaker 7: Yes is you were a staple on around the horn,
- 3:09Speaker 7: and I feel like a staple on around the horn
- 3:12Speaker 7: was where you had to pick between two options. So
- 3:14Speaker 7: if I gave you the Knicks Hawks series at three
- 3:17Speaker 7: to two and the Celtics seventy six Ers series at
- 3:21Speaker 7: three to two, which team is more likely to overcome
- 3:25Speaker 7: that three to two deficit, the Sixers or the Hawks?
- 3:27Speaker 6: Well, I mean I'd have to say the Sixers there, right,
- 3:29Speaker 6: I think because of embiid Yes, yeah, because of mb
- 3:32Speaker 6: because of I mean MAXI is a guy who you know,
- 3:34Speaker 6: a quarter into this season, we were talking about potential
- 3:37Speaker 6: MVP and it just seems like the Hawks have exhausted.
- 3:41Speaker 6: They're basically out of weapons, right c J. McCollums, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 6: done what he's done, and it doesn't look like Jalen
- 3:48Speaker 6: Johnson and to Kile Alexander Walker are ready to take
- 3:50Speaker 6: that next step where they can carry a team through
- 3:52Speaker 6: a playoff series. So I'd say it's pretty easily the
- 3:56Speaker 6: seventy six Ers. But yeah, you nailed it on the
- 3:58Speaker 6: head around the horn. Just pick two things, pick one
- 4:00Speaker 6: of them.
- 4:00Speaker 4: There's a topic.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Well, I think the NBA and the networks are telling
- 4:04Speaker 1: you that they think it's Philadelphia because they have switched
- 4:06Speaker 1: the times that they have made Philly and Boston on
- 4:09Speaker 1: Thursday night, the Marquee game at eight o'clock, Nixon Hawks
- 4:12Speaker 1: at seven o'clock. So they're telling you, yeah, and Biid
- 4:15Speaker 1: has a chance here. And if it gets back to
- 4:16Speaker 1: Boston for a Game seven, who knows, MAXI Embiid, one
- 4:19Speaker 1: of those guys gets hot, and it's over for the Celtics.
- 4:22Speaker 6: And it's a classic Eastern Conference rivalry like those two teams.
- 4:25Speaker 6: And if you get I mean the look, it's not
- 4:29Speaker 6: a big shock, right if the Sixers win Game six
- 4:32Speaker 6: at home and then you go to Game seven and that,
- 4:35Speaker 6: I mean, We've seen it before with Jimmy Butler's Miami Heat.
- 4:39Speaker 6: We've seen it in a Game six with Lebron James's
- 4:41Speaker 6: Miami Heat. We've seen it with other teams going into
- 4:43Speaker 6: Boston and beating them in moments where you're just like,
- 4:46Speaker 6: what is happening?
- 4:47Speaker 8: Right?
- 4:47Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 4:48Speaker 6: And so if you get a Game seven in Boston
- 4:50Speaker 6: in the first round after this, you know Jason Tatum's back.
- 4:53Speaker 6: So now we're the favorites. Like Boston has felt this
- 4:56Speaker 6: feeling before, and I want them to feel it again.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm worried about Boston. I am Wow, go ahead, tailor,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'll get to that in a second. What do you
- 5:02Speaker 1: got to tell it?
- 5:03Speaker 7: I was gonna say I would make such a bad
- 5:06Speaker 7: pro athlete. I've This is a take that I've been
- 5:08Speaker 7: pretty consistent on. One the second I got a big guaranteed contract,
- 5:13Speaker 7: I'd Anthony ren Donet and basically quiet quit on the entire.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Team, no doubt. Yeah, I mean that's what you're playing for, dude.
- 5:19Speaker 7: I'm watching Joel Embiid yesterday and he plays thirty nine
- 5:23Speaker 7: minutes in a second game back from abdominal surgery. Yes,
- 5:28Speaker 7: I cannot even fathom getting abdominal surgery and then running
- 5:32Speaker 7: up and down a court for thirty nine minutes.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know what appendix surgery is like,
- 5:37Speaker 6: but I have had a hernia surgery and this was
- 5:39Speaker 6: in my twenties.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I had it too.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Yeah, so like peak at whatever performance level, and yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 6: I was out for like a week.
- 5:45Speaker 4: I couldn't the muscle.
- 5:47Speaker 6: The times that you use ab muscles that you don't
- 5:49Speaker 6: even realize, like driving a car, it's absolutely ridiculous.
- 5:53Speaker 4: And yet this guy's running up and down the court.
- 5:55Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Man, if you're making turns and stuff, you're using ab muscles.
- 5:58Speaker 6: You don't even realize it until you have surgery there
- 6:00Speaker 6: and then have to drive home.
- 6:01Speaker 3: You would think I would have better abs.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I mean, you would think i'd have somebody to drive
- 6:04Speaker 4: me home.
- 6:07Speaker 3: No one has better abbs than you.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I saw on the other guy maybe ten years ago,
- 6:12Speaker 1: but not today.
- 6:13Speaker 9: Yes, go ahead, Dan, I'm sorry, I just have a
- 6:16Speaker 9: question for is he around the horn style?
- 6:18Speaker 5: To the Celtics lose that game?
- 6:20Speaker 3: Or did the Sixers win that game? Wow? Yes they
- 6:25Speaker 3: lost it.
- 6:26Speaker 6: I'm on the mount rushmore of around the horn topics segments.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Segment topics answered which.
- 6:34Speaker 4: One was it?
- 6:34Speaker 3: Who lost it?
- 6:35Speaker 9: It was did the Sixers win or did the Celtics
- 6:37Speaker 9: lose that game?
- 6:38Speaker 6: I would always lean toward the team that won it,
- 6:41Speaker 6: and in this case absolutely, Like I get that, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 6: Jason Tatum and that whole team didn't have a great
- 6:45Speaker 6: shooting fourth.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Quarter, but that's that's gonna happen and.
- 6:48Speaker 6: So and a lot of that happened because the Sixers
- 6:50Speaker 6: were playing great defense. It's not like Sam Houser was
- 6:53Speaker 6: wide open and missing shots. So classic Philly won that game.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Boston did not lose it.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Is he buyers? The Lakers have to close out the
- 7:02Speaker 7: Rockets tonight.
- 7:03Speaker 6: I'm gonna buy that one. Taylor almost called you, Tony.
- 7:06Speaker 6: I'm gonna buy that one, Taylor, because again, you go
- 7:10Speaker 6: into game six and let's say, you know, you get
- 7:12Speaker 6: Austin Reeves back if he's not feeling great, that's even
- 7:14Speaker 6: more looking great. That's more pressure on Lebron. You go
- 7:17Speaker 6: into a Game six with a Houston team that has
- 7:20Speaker 6: more faith and the last time they were in Houston
- 7:22Speaker 6: blew out the Lakers. If the Lakers don't end it here,
- 7:24Speaker 6: it's gonna be very much like a Boston Celtic situation,
- 7:27Speaker 6: a lot of pressure on an old team in Game seven.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Buy or Sell Raptors Cavaliers is the worst NBA playoff matchup.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Of all time.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Oh, that's a hard cell.
- 7:37Speaker 3: That's a hard cell.
- 7:38Speaker 6: And there have been some finals matchups where I'm just like,
- 7:40Speaker 6: what the Pistons and the Spurs get out of here with?
- 7:42Speaker 4: Those games are on NBA TV two.
- 7:44Speaker 5: That's how bad they are.
- 7:46Speaker 3: The deuce.
- 7:49Speaker 4: So many points.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I love it.
- 7:52Speaker 3: So you're not gonna do buy Erzell. You can't do
- 7:54Speaker 3: it on that one. No I did.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I said I sold it, so okay, wait, no, I'm sorry.
- 7:58Speaker 4: That was a buye that was a hard buy.
- 8:00Speaker 1: The reason I'm concerned about the Celtics they are missing
- 8:02Speaker 1: some pieces they had when they won an NBA championship.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Derek White's not playing.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Nearly as good as he was, but no Drew Holliday
- 8:08Speaker 1: and of course the Hall of Famer Al Horford now
- 8:11Speaker 1: with Golden State.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Now, I don't even mention Chris steps porzingets well what
- 8:15Speaker 6: he's gone too, where he's in Golden State.
- 8:18Speaker 3: What.
- 8:22Speaker 6: But even last night watching Derek White doesn't seem like
- 8:25Speaker 6: he's moving right. I don't know if there was any
- 8:27Speaker 6: reports on his wealth, but he didn't look like he
- 8:30Speaker 6: was moving right. And so yeah, that team just you know,
- 8:35Speaker 6: it's not the same when Derek White isn't one hundred
- 8:37Speaker 6: percent and looking like himself. And so last couple of
- 8:39Speaker 6: games I've seen him, he just hasn't been performing and
- 8:41Speaker 6: that's not normally something that happens, and especially in the
- 8:44Speaker 6: postseason he's usually locked in.
- 8:45Speaker 4: So I feel like there might be something going on
- 8:47Speaker 4: there injury wise.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, you have holiday and now you have guys
- 8:50Speaker 1: like Sam Hauser, I mean some guy quite I've never
- 8:52Speaker 1: heard of, and Derek White's not playing nearly as well,
- 8:55Speaker 1: this team's in trouble. I'm gonna say it. The Sixers
- 8:58Speaker 1: are going to win this series in seven games? How
- 9:00Speaker 1: about that?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Huh wow? First one to say it.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Yes, do you think he changed his name to Kada?
- 9:05Speaker 6: And it should be pronounced cueta but it's not quitter.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Can't spell quit qu and queta.
- 9:15Speaker 6: But yeah, the I'm looking at these highlights over here,
- 9:18Speaker 6: like Nikolaevich has no shot defending Joe LMB and so
- 9:22Speaker 6: if if he's getting posted up all the time, it's
- 9:24Speaker 6: just like, all right, you guys are gonna have to
- 9:25Speaker 6: double him early or you're gonna have to, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 6: get some other players Becausevich is not gonna defend him.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Mel Kuiper is going to join us here? I is
- 9:34Speaker 3: he so tired of the NFL Draft?
- 9:35Speaker 4: I mean, isn't it over?
- 9:37Speaker 3: It's never over? You all had the grades are all out.
- 9:40Speaker 3: What are we doing? We need mel A one more time.
- 9:44Speaker 1: It's a tradition, unlike any other Kuiper one time before
- 9:47Speaker 1: the draft, Kuiper one time after the draft, and then
- 9:50Speaker 1: we don't see mel again for like four or five months.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I mean, can you handle one more?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Is he? No?
- 9:56Speaker 8: No?
- 9:57Speaker 6: I think I'm gonna sit this one. I've asked as
- 10:02Speaker 6: many questions as I could possibly ask about. I don't
- 10:04Speaker 6: even know about the Jets draft or the Giants draft.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Oh Jesus, let's can we watch these kids play for once?
- 10:10Speaker 1: So you're gonna leave here during mel Kiper you'll come
- 10:12Speaker 1: back for the final segment in hour one, and then
- 10:14Speaker 1: we have Ryan Ruco at four.
- 10:15Speaker 3: So you're in on that, right, that's your buddy.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I'll think about it.
- 10:17Speaker 3: We're going to talk about the next one. It Oh
- 10:19Speaker 3: god and the Yankees.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I mean, I have to think about it.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 10:27Speaker 2: Live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on
- 10:31Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I am not certain anything, and I mean anything makes
- 10:39Speaker 1: Tailor happier than having Mike Francesa on. Mike is joining us.
- 10:43Speaker 1: He's on the car phone. He's always on the car phone.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Check out his podcast, miked up wherever you get your podcast.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Good afternoon, Mike, how are you?
- 10:52Speaker 3: We're doing good here?
- 10:54Speaker 1: I am wondering if you if you don't mind, Mike,
- 10:57Speaker 1: because I was telling the guys, no one knows the
- 11:00Speaker 1: market New York better than you. No one knows that
- 11:04Speaker 1: city and what makes that city tick more so than you,
- 11:07Speaker 1: And so I am wondering if you might be able
- 11:10Speaker 1: to explain to Taylor, to Izzy, to mikey A, to
- 11:13Speaker 1: the audience what it would mean to New York and
- 11:17Speaker 1: that market and the city and the fans if the
- 11:20Speaker 1: Knicks were to actually win an NBA championship.
- 11:23Speaker 8: It would be overwhelming, absolutely overwhelming. When the Knicks win,
- 11:29Speaker 8: which is obviously extremely rare, or when they're very good,
- 11:33Speaker 8: which is obviously extremely rare, which we'll find out if
- 11:37Speaker 8: they are this year, you know, they they could get
- 11:40Speaker 8: to the finals. I don't think they can win it.
- 11:41Speaker 8: I don't think anybody is beating Oklahoma City. But and
- 11:46Speaker 8: there's no guarantee they're going to beat anybody in the
- 11:48Speaker 8: East that's left, although they'll win the Atlanta Series. But
- 11:52Speaker 8: back to your question, the hole that the Knicks have,
- 11:57Speaker 8: especially on the inner City, especially on Manhattan, is so
- 12:02Speaker 8: overwhelming that you cannot even imagine the impact. It would
- 12:08Speaker 8: be unbelievable. It would be like Christmas and New Year's
- 12:13Speaker 8: Eve and any of the holiday you want to put
- 12:15Speaker 8: in the all wrapped into one in the greatest city
- 12:18Speaker 8: in the world. So yes, the impact would be overwhelming.
- 12:23Speaker 8: That's how big it is. You know. We can ignore
- 12:26Speaker 8: the Knicks, and the city is good at ignoring the
- 12:28Speaker 8: Knicks when they're terrible, But when they are a factor,
- 12:33Speaker 8: when they are a team or a playoff contender, they
- 12:38Speaker 8: have a grip on the city that is utterly enormous.
- 12:41Speaker 8: As big as anything the Yankees have, as big as
- 12:45Speaker 8: anything the Giants have. And when you start in New York,
- 12:48Speaker 8: you start Yankees Giants and work your way down from there.
- 12:51Speaker 8: But when the Knicks are good, nothing's bigger.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Yep.
- 12:55Speaker 7: Mike Taylor from Rockland County, first time, long time, I'm wondering,
- 12:58Speaker 7: do you think Jalen I'm wondering, do you think Jalen
- 13:02Speaker 7: Brunson is already on the Mount Rushmore of New York Nicks?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Go to tear your head.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Off of it.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Jesus, he is not.
- 13:08Speaker 8: Okay. If you're going to compare him to Willis Reid,
- 13:12Speaker 8: or compare him to Walt Frazier, or compare him to
- 13:16Speaker 8: the legendary guys who won championships here, he's not. He
- 13:21Speaker 8: is not. That would be unfair to do that. Uh.
- 13:25Speaker 8: He has absolutely taken the town by storm. He is
- 13:29Speaker 8: exceedingly popular. The Knicks are an extremely hot ticket. See
- 13:35Speaker 8: the Knicks is see the Garden when the Knicks are
- 13:38Speaker 8: good is as trendy as New York City can be.
- 13:43Speaker 8: Being seen there for the average guy. First of all,
- 13:47Speaker 8: there's a lot of diehard Nick fans, and there's a
- 13:48Speaker 8: lot of celebrity diehod Nick fans. They're really good Nick fans.
- 13:50Speaker 8: They are you know, ChIL is good. I know Chalmy,
- 13:52Speaker 8: he's a good he's a good Knick fan. Okay. The
- 13:54Speaker 8: guys who go there and go to all the games,
- 13:56Speaker 8: they're good Knick fans. They care about the Knicks. So
- 13:59Speaker 8: then front runners or anything. But the grip that this
- 14:04Speaker 8: the Knicks have on the entire city, but especially the
- 14:09Speaker 8: Manhattan pot is unbelievable. It is overwhelming. And listen, the
- 14:14Speaker 8: only reason other people don't go is they can't afford it.
- 14:16Speaker 8: The tickets are unbelievably expensive for the Knicks.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Crazy.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Yep.
- 14:21Speaker 3: What do we do with Mike Brown here?
- 14:22Speaker 1: If he doesn't make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, Mike,
- 14:25Speaker 1: he'd be fired?
- 14:26Speaker 3: Wow.
- 14:27Speaker 8: See, I think this is make over time for the Knicks.
- 14:29Speaker 8: I think that if they don't win it, win it,
- 14:36Speaker 8: and I'll pull back if they if they make the
- 14:39Speaker 8: finals and loses in six games or something, right and
- 14:45Speaker 8: put a decent showing it in the finals. Okay, yes,
- 14:48Speaker 8: I think they could run it back. But barring that,
- 14:52Speaker 8: I think anything short of that, and especially not making
- 14:55Speaker 8: the finals, let's put it that way, beating getting beatn East,
- 14:59Speaker 8: they get beating the East. I think his job is
- 15:02Speaker 8: absolutely on the line, and I think there's a very
- 15:05Speaker 8: good chance they will try to completely make over the team.
- 15:08Speaker 8: And I mean Giannis.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Hmm, that's interesting.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Yes, fire Mike Brown if they get if they don't
- 15:16Speaker 1: get to the Eastern Conference, I'm with.
- 15:17Speaker 3: You on that.
- 15:18Speaker 8: By the way, Quicken, when Brown took the job, he
- 15:21Speaker 8: understood the deal. He was told, we think you can
- 15:24Speaker 8: take us to the next wrong. Understand that's what you
- 15:27Speaker 8: were asking you to do. Anything short of that will
- 15:30Speaker 8: will be seen as you're failing to do your job.
- 15:32Speaker 8: I'm sure that's what they told them, all right.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Mike, I'm looking at this sort of consensus on the
- 15:37Speaker 6: Mount rushmore of Nicks. Right, So you got Walt Fraser,
- 15:40Speaker 6: Willis Reed, Patrick Ewing Boom, you got to put those
- 15:42Speaker 6: up there.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, the fourth one is up for grabs.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I don't know how much.
- 15:45Speaker 1: There's no way you're going to convince Mike that Jalen
- 15:48Speaker 1: Brunson is there.
- 15:51Speaker 8: Jal I love the Villainova teams. Jay Wright's a good friend,
- 15:56Speaker 8: has been forever. I know those teams very much, very well.
- 16:00Speaker 8: I was around those teams. The bottom line is, I
- 16:04Speaker 8: have great respect for what Brunson's accomplished, but to put
- 16:07Speaker 8: him with the guys who won championships here, to put
- 16:10Speaker 8: him with that team, and that team is seen as okay,
- 16:15Speaker 8: as seen as a unit. They are not seen as
- 16:18Speaker 8: just Read and Fraser. They are seen as Red and
- 16:23Speaker 8: Fraser and de Buscher and Bradley and Dip Bonnet and
- 16:27Speaker 8: Red Holtzman and the Minute Men. They are canonized, they
- 16:32Speaker 8: are deified, and until you do what they did, you
- 16:36Speaker 8: will not in any way join them.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Up there, we have a caller.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Let's go out to mikey A who was in Westchester today.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Mike diego haad, you're on with the great Mike FRANCESSA.
- 16:48Speaker 10: How you doing, Mike, Mike Long Island, Listen. I got
- 16:52Speaker 10: a question. I'm arguing with my buddy Taylor. He says
- 16:55Speaker 10: the Yankees are retiring too many numbers.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I want to get your.
- 16:58Speaker 10: Thoughts on that, and with a quick follow up of
- 17:01Speaker 10: who gets a better ovation at Yankee Stadium, Bernie Williams
- 17:04Speaker 10: or Paul O'Neill.
- 17:05Speaker 8: Ah, wow, Bernie Williams. The amazing thing is how big
- 17:11Speaker 8: Mattingly still is. Mattingly's is so big, it's as big
- 17:14Speaker 8: as Geta's. So Manningly is revered. I mean, he's beloved.
- 17:19Speaker 8: People don't understand how popular Mattingly is. I've been at
- 17:22Speaker 8: places with matting Lee and it's amazing how popular he is. Incredibly,
- 17:27Speaker 8: he is worshiped. He really is. Nothing's mantal but and
- 17:31Speaker 8: Geeta is enormous. But you have no idea how big
- 17:35Speaker 8: Manningly is. But on those two, listen. They have great
- 17:38Speaker 8: respect for Paul O'Neill. They love Paul O'Neill. But Bernie,
- 17:42Speaker 8: I would say, is more popular. As far as the numbers,
- 17:49Speaker 8: whoever's arguing that they have retired too many numbers has
- 17:53Speaker 8: listened to me for a long time because I only
- 17:56Speaker 8: hire numbers for immortal players. Okay, if you, if you're
- 18:01Speaker 8: Ricky Jackson, you'll never get your number retired, Okay, never,
- 18:04Speaker 8: okay never, Okay, I can go down the list. When
- 18:09Speaker 8: I was a kid, three four and five were retired.
- 18:12Speaker 8: That was it. Then came an obviously Ford, Okay, go
- 18:16Speaker 8: down the list. Mariano Jeeta deserve it in every way.
- 18:21Speaker 8: The other things are nothing more than marketing and an
- 18:25Speaker 8: ability to have days for the fans. That's all it is.
- 18:28Speaker 8: It is utter nonsense, and they have completely ruined the
- 18:31Speaker 8: idea of retired numbers by retiring so many numbers. It's embarrassing.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Thank you and Taylor, how do you feel? I mean
- 18:39Speaker 3: he feels good.
- 18:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel so good, Mike, because I've been arguing
- 18:43Speaker 7: this with Ceci Sabbathia. Mikey's like, he's a great Yankee,
- 18:46Speaker 7: and I'm saying I'm not saying he is not a
- 18:48Speaker 7: great Yankee.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Retire his number.
- 18:51Speaker 8: If I was, if I were in charge of retired numbers,
- 18:56Speaker 8: I was obous. Obviously, three four, five, seven, don't have
- 19:00Speaker 8: anything to discuss. Eight absolutely, sixteen absolutely Thurman because of
- 19:07Speaker 8: the tragic death of the captain. Fifteen, Yes, Mariano Jeter. Absolutely.
- 19:12Speaker 8: Other than that, everybody else can wait in line.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 8: C C.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Sabathia joining us tomorrow on the show.
- 19:19Speaker 8: Want to do with Sabathia I would know.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I'm with you, Mike, I agree. I railed against it.
- 19:24Speaker 8: Yeah, yes, listen if you if you're not a Hall
- 19:27Speaker 8: of Famer, right, okay, I'm not retiring your number.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I'd be perfectly fine with you the being
- 19:35Speaker 1: the guy in charge of whose number gets retired and
- 19:37Speaker 1: who's does it.
- 19:38Speaker 3: I would that should be you.
- 19:40Speaker 8: Yes, you had to play almost every bit of Now
- 19:43Speaker 8: it's hard to play every bit, but you had to
- 19:45Speaker 8: play basically eighty to ninety to spending your career with
- 19:47Speaker 8: the Yankees to get your number retitle. I'm sorry.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: This is so good, Taylor. You're good with him deciding
- 19:54Speaker 1: who gets in and who doesn't.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Yeah, this is what Yankee fans.
- 20:00Speaker 8: If the Yankees wear more than the uniforms they wear now,
- 20:04Speaker 8: I will be so embarrassed, because listen, the Yankees continue
- 20:08Speaker 8: to chip away at everything that has always made them
- 20:10Speaker 8: the Yankees. Okay, stop, stop, don't put any signage on
- 20:14Speaker 8: the uniforms, and don't ever put names on the uniforms,
- 20:18Speaker 8: and don't change the uniforms one on the road, one
- 20:22Speaker 8: at home, not forty two uniforms that look like World
- 20:25Speaker 8: Softball League teams Okay, I mean or Joe's auto garage.
- 20:30Speaker 8: You know, give me a break. These uniforms are embarrassing,
- 20:33Speaker 8: and that's what's made the Yankees the Yankees. To me,
- 20:36Speaker 8: there are two great uniforms in baseball, the Yankees and
- 20:39Speaker 8: the Dodgers' home uniform.
- 20:40Speaker 7: Yep, this is this is what I was just about
- 20:43Speaker 7: to say, Like, these are the problems that Yankee fans have,
- 20:46Speaker 7: great problems to have. You look across town.
- 20:49Speaker 8: When you're going, well, let's be honest, listen, power pitching,
- 20:52Speaker 8: power hitting. When the Yankees have that, they're the Yankees
- 20:55Speaker 8: right now. They have power pitching, they have power hitting.
- 20:58Speaker 8: When they're that, they're do it now. They have to
- 21:02Speaker 8: remember that once in a while, when you get in Octoby,
- 21:04Speaker 8: you gotta perform. Okay, that has stopped happening. They have
- 21:08Speaker 8: to win a World Series. Do you know how different
- 21:11Speaker 8: the Yankees would be right now if they hadn't won
- 21:13Speaker 8: in on nine? That nine is so big it changed careers.
- 21:18Speaker 8: Casson wouldn't be here, managers wouldn't be here, players wouldn't
- 21:21Speaker 8: have the same impact everything. It saved them winning that
- 21:26Speaker 8: World Series, because let's be honest, they blew a couple
- 21:30Speaker 8: of World Series along the way in the early two thousands,
- 21:32Speaker 8: and they haven't won in a long long time. The
- 21:35Speaker 8: Yankees need to win a World Series, but it's not
- 21:38Speaker 8: gonna be like the Mets, which right now is a joke.
- 21:40Speaker 8: What's gonna happen now in New York is this? Unless
- 21:43Speaker 8: the Mets do something radical, you are gonna have an
- 21:45Speaker 8: August Day. Here's an August day this year, forty six
- 21:48Speaker 8: thousand in an afternoon game against the Blue Jays for
- 21:51Speaker 8: the Yankees and archery practice at City Fielder.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I'm going to take lest there's behind the scenes here.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Taylor was using that Yankee stuff as a transition.
- 22:04Speaker 3: To ask about the crosstown team.
- 22:07Speaker 1: The New York Meds, and whether or not but Mike
- 22:09Speaker 1: did let him because we're talking Yankees, and Mike wants
- 22:11Speaker 1: to cut you off. He cut you off because he's
- 22:13Speaker 1: the greatest to ever do this. Does Mendoza make it
- 22:15Speaker 1: the year here?
- 22:16Speaker 8: Mike, he wouldn't have made the weekend if it were me.
- 22:19Speaker 8: And they needed to make a change, and they got
- 22:26Speaker 8: This is almost a Kansas City Chief situation. They got
- 22:30Speaker 8: a great guy, a great manager, I think the best
- 22:35Speaker 8: manage in baseball without any question is Frank ConA. It's
- 22:38Speaker 8: not even close. The rest fall behind that. Colora is
- 22:42Speaker 8: a tremendous manager. He is a gifted, generational manager, all right.
- 22:47Speaker 8: The Phillies try to hire him already, they'll probably try
- 22:50Speaker 8: to go back and hire him again. The Mets should
- 22:52Speaker 8: have already made their move on Core. If you didn't
- 22:54Speaker 8: want to come till for a month, or he didn't
- 22:56Speaker 8: want to come till next year, they still should have
- 22:58Speaker 8: locked them up and then put an inter him in.
- 23:00Speaker 8: I have nothing against Mendoza. Everyone says he's a nice man.
- 23:03Speaker 8: I don't know him very well, and I would say this,
- 23:06Speaker 8: he right now doesn't have any answers and you can't
- 23:10Speaker 8: dump the entire team. You'd like to, but you can't,
- 23:13Speaker 8: So that's why you make a change there. But I
- 23:16Speaker 8: wouldn't just make a change there. I would also make
- 23:18Speaker 8: a change in personnel because the last year they were
- 23:22Speaker 8: so proud of the fact that they really took their
- 23:25Speaker 8: attendance from like eighteenth to fourth or eighteenth to third,
- 23:28Speaker 8: whatever it finished up, and they were very proud of that,
- 23:31Speaker 8: and the big part of that was obviously Sodo. But
- 23:34Speaker 8: they played terribly and this manager is thirty five games
- 23:37Speaker 8: under since last season. It's not just this year, it's
- 23:40Speaker 8: last year too, and he's had bad Listen Planco hasn't played.
- 23:44Speaker 8: Lindor's out probably going to be two months. Soto got hurt.
- 23:48Speaker 8: We understand all this. A lot of guys haven't performed,
- 23:50Speaker 8: but shit hasn't been yet. Although I think you'll be fine.
- 23:54Speaker 8: The bottom line is you have to be reactionary. When
- 23:58Speaker 8: you are a cone with deep pockets, you have to
- 24:01Speaker 8: be reactionary. Sometimes the team puts you on a spot
- 24:05Speaker 8: where you have to react. The fact that they haven't
- 24:07Speaker 8: reacted shows that they don't have a clue of what
- 24:10Speaker 8: they're doing.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Mike, you've been covering the NFL draft for a launch
- 24:14Speaker 1: to forever, really and we just had mel kiper Junior
- 24:17Speaker 1: on and we were marveling.
- 24:19Speaker 8: And you know, Melon I used to do. I used
- 24:21Speaker 8: to give Mel a real hot time in the beginning,
- 24:23Speaker 8: in the early years, and I know it bothered him.
- 24:26Speaker 8: But let me say this, Mel deserves an incredible amount
- 24:30Speaker 8: of credit because he created a cottage industry for so
- 24:33Speaker 8: many people. So many people now make their living. They
- 24:37Speaker 8: should all put a flat up to Mel because he
- 24:39Speaker 8: created that whole thing.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a trailblazer.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But and so you know, I was telling Mel that,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you know, you see eight hundred thousand plus people showing
- 24:48Speaker 1: up to an NFL draft. Yeah, and Mel saw it
- 24:52Speaker 1: before anyone else. It's not surprising to Mel. I'm wondering,
- 24:55Speaker 1: is it surprising to you, Mike?
- 24:57Speaker 8: They've done the NFL has created mall. Let's be honest,
- 25:00Speaker 8: there are those are the greediest humans who have ever
- 25:03Speaker 8: crossed the planet. Okay, but they they are great at
- 25:07Speaker 8: marketing and the fact that they can turn what is
- 25:10Speaker 8: really a nonsports event into a cultural event of enormous
- 25:16Speaker 8: size across many channels and drawing hundreds and hundreds of
- 25:23Speaker 8: thousands of people who are so excited to be there. Okay,
- 25:29Speaker 8: it is remarkable how well they've marketed that. I don't
- 25:33Speaker 8: think anything in our lifetime has been marketed as well
- 25:35Speaker 8: as the NFL game.
- 25:38Speaker 7: Mike, what do you think about the NCAA expanding the
- 25:41Speaker 7: tournament to I believe seventy sixteen?
- 25:43Speaker 8: Let me he has like throw up over it. Okay, yes, okay,
- 25:49Speaker 8: you know why it happens and how happens. For one reason,
- 25:52Speaker 8: the NCAA has nothing to do anymore. The NCAA has
- 25:54Speaker 8: no power anymore, and the only thing they generate income
- 25:57Speaker 8: on is championships. And that's the big This is the
- 26:00Speaker 8: one that produces a fortune. And that's why more teams
- 26:04Speaker 8: means more games, which means more money. And that's what
- 26:07Speaker 8: they are controlling and that's why they are adding it.
- 26:10Speaker 8: There is not a reason in the world, not a
- 26:13Speaker 8: reason in the world, why that should be more than
- 26:15Speaker 8: a sixty fourteen tournament.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Mike Francessa is with us miked up. Check out his
- 26:21Speaker 1: podcast wherever you get your podcast. Just back to the
- 26:23Speaker 1: draft for a second. What do you make of Harbaugh's
- 26:25Speaker 1: first draft as a Giants head coach.
- 26:29Speaker 8: Listen, I always pick a player that I really like. Now,
- 26:34Speaker 8: I picked the player this year that so many people
- 26:36Speaker 8: jumped on the bandwagon. I was almost like didn't want
- 26:38Speaker 8: to be there, and that was Caleb down. I would
- 26:42Speaker 8: have liked to see him, and I understand why the
- 26:43Speaker 8: Giants didn't get him. I do because you have to
- 26:48Speaker 8: first decide how are you going to use him. Are
- 26:49Speaker 8: you going to play him as a safety? Are you
- 26:51Speaker 8: going to bring him to the line of scrimmagy and
- 26:53Speaker 8: give him multipurpose? You're going to turn him into Polomono.
- 26:56Speaker 8: You're going to turn him into Ed Reed? What are
- 26:58Speaker 8: you going to turn him into? So there's a lot
- 27:00Speaker 8: of different ways to use him. He's going to be
- 27:02Speaker 8: a great player. I don't think there's any questions. The
- 27:05Speaker 8: fact they didn't think the first player would drop into
- 27:10Speaker 8: the lap. They never thought he would make it the five,
- 27:12Speaker 8: and he did. He's a very talented individual. Now he's
- 27:15Speaker 8: not a finished product by any stretch, but he's a
- 27:16Speaker 8: very talented individual. And then getting a big lineman, I
- 27:20Speaker 8: think anything they can do to protect that. And let
- 27:23Speaker 8: me say this if people don't see this, the Giants
- 27:27Speaker 8: are going to run the football. Harbo wants to run
- 27:30Speaker 8: the football. He's got a full back. He brings a
- 27:32Speaker 8: fullback in and pays them good money. He wants a
- 27:35Speaker 8: big offensive line. He's got a quarterback that can run.
- 27:38Speaker 8: He's got some running backs he can use. Although he
- 27:40Speaker 8: doesn't have a great running back, he's got solid running backs.
- 27:42Speaker 8: And I love Skataboo. I just hope he can stay healthy.
- 27:44Speaker 8: I don't know if he can, but he's a crazy man.
- 27:46Speaker 8: I hope he can stay healthy. They are going to
- 27:49Speaker 8: run the football. They are going to play a tight
- 27:52Speaker 8: end in the slot on a lot of plays. They
- 27:54Speaker 8: are going to be a power team. But he's the
- 27:56Speaker 8: most important thing. The Giants now with are now back
- 28:02Speaker 8: to being a real football organization for the first time
- 28:07Speaker 8: in over a decade. And if you know the Giants
- 28:10Speaker 8: and you've been around the Giants and you understand the Giants,
- 28:15Speaker 8: and I do, that is such a welcome thing. They
- 28:18Speaker 8: now have a real, died in the world, honest to
- 28:22Speaker 8: goodness football leader running the franchise in every way. So
- 28:28Speaker 8: the Giants are back. I think they will be back
- 28:33Speaker 8: from day one. I think they will fight for the
- 28:35Speaker 8: playoffs this year. I think the Giants on the Harbor
- 28:39Speaker 8: are back. If they had not hired him, I would
- 28:42Speaker 8: have thought it was the greatest mistake they could have
- 28:44Speaker 8: ever made, and maybe their last opportunity to get out
- 28:47Speaker 8: of this abyss that they've been in. I think they
- 28:48Speaker 8: are now back to being a legitimate football team again.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Maybe they expand the NFL playoffs more teams than that thing.
- 28:59Speaker 3: I can tell you not back Mike. The Jets. They're
- 29:01Speaker 3: never back, and so I am. But I like the draft, Mike.
- 29:05Speaker 8: They had a good draft.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I know, I know. I hate when I think that though,
- 29:09Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 29:11Speaker 8: They brought in really good players. Now the question is
- 29:13Speaker 8: do they know what to do with them? You know,
- 29:17Speaker 8: having Right there at least gives me a sentilla of
- 29:21Speaker 8: hope because last year they were probably as mixed up
- 29:27Speaker 8: and confused the coaching staff as I've ever seen. Okay,
- 29:30Speaker 8: they had no idea what they were doing, and I
- 29:33Speaker 8: still don't know that they know what they're doing. But
- 29:35Speaker 8: I think Right knows what he's doing from an offensive standpoint,
- 29:39Speaker 8: and they now have weapons. I don't like either quarterback
- 29:44Speaker 8: that they're thinking about playing with, so that's obviously an issue.
- 29:49Speaker 8: But they have big offensive linemen, they have an infrastructure there,
- 29:54Speaker 8: they have a running back, they have now two tight ends,
- 29:58Speaker 8: and the kid from Oregon is in a talent if
- 30:00Speaker 8: you get if you know how to use them properly.
- 30:03Speaker 8: I like the players they brought in from Indiana. They
- 30:06Speaker 8: brought in. They brought in guys were all from top
- 30:08Speaker 8: five programs. Their first foot picks were all top five
- 30:11Speaker 8: programs last year, including two who played for Indiana. I
- 30:15Speaker 8: like what they did. I thought they had a very
- 30:17Speaker 8: very good draft. But listen, a lot of bad teams
- 30:21Speaker 8: have good drafts and then screw it up. So this
- 30:23Speaker 8: is only stage one. They've got to prove now that
- 30:26Speaker 8: they can put one foot in front of the other.
- 30:28Speaker 8: We don't know that they can do that yet.
- 30:30Speaker 7: Yes, Mike, we can't do an nd season tournament with
- 30:32Speaker 7: the NFL for obvious reasons. But would you be in
- 30:34Speaker 7: favor of the NFL recognizing a winner of the draft?
- 30:37Speaker 7: Maybe if mel kiper picks.
- 30:40Speaker 8: I listen. The idea of anybody acting like they know
- 30:45Speaker 8: who wins the draft right after the draft is maybe
- 30:48Speaker 8: the dumbest premise in the history of sports. Okay, you
- 30:52Speaker 8: don't know for three years whether you had a good
- 30:56Speaker 8: draft or not. Okay, you're going to give that guy draft.
- 30:59Speaker 8: First of all, many all pros and pro bo players
- 31:02Speaker 8: are picked in the third round and is picked in
- 31:03Speaker 8: the first round. So the idea that you know right away,
- 31:08Speaker 8: it's nonsense. It's complete, utter nonsense. You don't know there
- 31:13Speaker 8: are no givens. Yes, are there players who are going
- 31:16Speaker 8: to make it. Of course you know that there's always
- 31:19Speaker 8: going to be a handful of them, and they usually
- 31:21Speaker 8: go in the first three picks. But the point is
- 31:24Speaker 8: you don't know about it. The idea grades after draft
- 31:26Speaker 8: is the dumbest premise, and everybody does it, but it's
- 31:29Speaker 8: the dumbest thing in the world. Nobody know what they're
- 31:32Speaker 8: going what it should be as a grade on how
- 31:35Speaker 8: you drafted, okay, not how your team is going the
- 31:39Speaker 8: players you brought in are going to do, because there's
- 31:41Speaker 8: no way of knowing that. It takes three years to
- 31:44Speaker 8: really get a good handle on draft.
- 31:47Speaker 5: Yep.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Last question, miked up wherever you get your podcast, the
- 31:50Speaker 1: great Mike Francessa is with us. Is there anything Lebron
- 31:54Speaker 1: James could do? Mike the rest of the way here
- 31:56Speaker 1: where you would then say to yourself, you know what,
- 31:59Speaker 1: Lebron had a better career than Michael Jordan.
- 32:01Speaker 8: No, first of all, this is a silly thing too,
- 32:05Speaker 8: for this reason they are such utterly different players. They
- 32:09Speaker 8: have always been utterly different players. Here is what Lebron
- 32:13Speaker 8: has done. He has stayed better for longer than Jordan did,
- 32:20Speaker 8: the idea that he can still play his game three
- 32:25Speaker 8: and just coming off knee surgery. So I've been watching
- 32:28Speaker 8: everything because I do anyway, but I mean I've been
- 32:31Speaker 8: I watched that game and I was utterly amazed that
- 32:33Speaker 8: he could play forty five minutes and play the way
- 32:36Speaker 8: he did. I knew he'd have nothing in Game four
- 32:37Speaker 8: because he was exhausted at the game three. He can
- 32:39Speaker 8: hardly stands up. He is without question a top three
- 32:47Speaker 8: five whatever you want to talk about player of all time.
- 32:50Speaker 8: But his greatest strength is what he brings to a team. Also,
- 32:56Speaker 8: his game is nuanced. The best thing he done his pass.
- 33:01Speaker 8: He he is not what Jordan was. Jordan is a
- 33:05Speaker 8: legitimate two guard. He was a take the last shot,
- 33:11Speaker 8: be the high scorer, leads the team in shots every
- 33:14Speaker 8: single night, be that volume player, be fearless, and be
- 33:20Speaker 8: in every way a winner. That's what Jordan was. Lebron
- 33:23Speaker 8: James is a player without a position. He can play
- 33:26Speaker 8: the one, he can play the two, can play, the three,
- 33:28Speaker 8: can play the four. The bottom line is Lebron James
- 33:31Speaker 8: is a lot more like what Magic Johnson than he
- 33:34Speaker 8: is like Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is much more like
- 33:37Speaker 8: Kobe Bryant than he is like Lebron James. They are
- 33:40Speaker 8: very different players, But to take away Lebron's greatness is ridiculous.
- 33:44Speaker 8: He is, without question, without question, one of the greatest
- 33:47Speaker 8: players in the history of the NBA, and if anyone
- 33:50Speaker 8: argues that they're this is just stupid.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Right, Mike, you are not stupid. You are smart.
- 33:56Speaker 1: You're the pope, and you should be deciding which Yankees
- 33:58Speaker 1: have their numbers retiring Yankees too.
- 34:01Speaker 8: I gets too late for that because they're already up
- 34:03Speaker 8: there like a bingo card.
- 34:05Speaker 3: You can take them down, you make it ru you
- 34:07Speaker 3: can take it down, Mike. We'll let you take them down. Yes, no, you.
- 34:10Speaker 8: Can't take them down. You can't do that to the guys.
- 34:12Speaker 8: But you know what, I like the days where it
- 34:15Speaker 8: was just, you know, a couple of numbers. I think
- 34:17Speaker 8: in every town there should only be a couple of
- 34:19Speaker 8: numbers retired. And the Yankees has had more than anybody
- 34:22Speaker 8: else without question. And I'm telling you, protect the uniforms
- 34:26Speaker 8: if the Yankees go that way, and they're talking now
- 34:29Speaker 8: about extra uniforms on the road or please don't. Hey,
- 34:33Speaker 8: they do everything they can to chip away at what
- 34:36Speaker 8: makes the Yankees the Yankees. That's what's said.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, miked up wherever you get your podcast, Mike Francesive.
- 34:42Speaker 1: We appreciate the time, as Zoey's. The fact that we
- 34:44Speaker 1: carve out any sort of time for us is amazing.

- 34:47Speaker 8: Thank you guys. Take care budd.

- 35:17Speaker 1: Hawkman Ryan Ricco going to join us at about fifteen minutes.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He is calling the game tonight Lakers and Rockets. Mike
- 35:23Speaker 1: Francesa the Pope going to join us in hour number
- 35:26Speaker 1: two as well.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Taylor.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Last night Major League Baseball, anything catch your attention? I
- 35:31Speaker 1: know the Yankees won, I know the Mets one. I'm
- 35:33Speaker 1: just wondering if anything caught your attention?
- 35:35Speaker 7: Yeah to me. The biggest story last night was sho
- 35:37Speaker 7: Haotani getting his first loss of the season. Wow, the
- 35:40Speaker 7: Marlins beat him. Sho Hao Tani still did pretty well
- 35:44Speaker 7: on the mound six innings, wan to and run nine ks.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Why they pull him? I mean, pitch count really strack
- 35:50Speaker 3: out to many people, right, and the Marlins lead the
- 35:52Speaker 3: league and feist.
- 35:52Speaker 7: Yes, So even though the Dodgers lost the game, they're
- 35:58Speaker 7: still winners in my eyes for last night specifically. Really,
- 36:02Speaker 7: they're they're bad for baseball, but last night specifically, I'm
- 36:05Speaker 7: giving them the pass because let me be the first
- 36:07Speaker 7: to commend the Dodgers on having a woman's night yesterday.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Good day, not a lady's night, that's different.
- 36:15Speaker 3: No, yesterday was women's night, women's night.
- 36:17Speaker 7: It was a night to champion the women in our
- 36:20Speaker 7: lives and impact in sports, business, and culture. They threw
- 36:24Speaker 7: out the first pitch, they sang the national anthem.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Well, who was they? I mean, just women?
- 36:30Speaker 7: Women?
- 36:32Speaker 3: I think it was the wives of the players, right,
- 36:34Speaker 3: I think.
- 36:36Speaker 7: I believe the wives of the players picked their entrance
- 36:39Speaker 7: or their walk up songs. But they had female entertainers,
- 36:43Speaker 7: not not female entertainers, but female singers to sing the anthem.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Yes, now I know why I caught your eye. I mean,
- 36:50Speaker 3: how about that?
- 36:51Speaker 9: Does this also mean that the other eighty games at
- 36:54Speaker 9: Dodger Stadium are Men's Days?
- 36:56Speaker 3: I mean if day just what? Yes? Every other day
- 37:01Speaker 3: is for Pat's say Jack Yes?
- 37:03Speaker 7: So Dan, you could imagine my surprise as I'm driving
- 37:08Speaker 7: in the car and I'm just flipping the dials and
- 37:11Speaker 7: I hear this ad for an upcoming promotion at a game.
- 37:19Speaker 7: I'm sure by now you've heard about the Dodgers having
- 37:21Speaker 7: a woman's night. What do they do talk about their feelings? Now,
- 37:29Speaker 7: that's why I'm here to talk about our newest.
- 37:31Speaker 5: Promotion, Men's Night.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Nice.
- 37:35Speaker 7: Why make sure you get to the ballpark early. The
- 37:38Speaker 7: first ten thousand fans in attendance, we'll get an Allen wrench,
- 37:44Speaker 7: and don't forget to stop by our fan fest area,
- 37:47Speaker 7: or as we like to call it, our manfest Area,
- 37:50Speaker 7: which will include a radar gun for you and your
- 37:53Speaker 7: buddies to blow out your arms seeing who could win
- 37:56Speaker 7: bragging rights of throwing a baseball the fastest.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Nice.
- 38:04Speaker 7: At Men's Night, we won't have concessions, just a grill
- 38:08Speaker 7: where you could cook your own burgers, and you'll ask
- 38:11Speaker 7: your friends how they want theirs cooked, knowing damn well,
- 38:14Speaker 7: you'll just cook them all the same.
- 38:17Speaker 5: Good.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, that's what we do.
- 38:20Speaker 7: We'll be playing Metallica, ac DC and led Zeppelin all
- 38:25Speaker 7: night long. You know, none of that tailor.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Swift rappings for got Skinner.
- 38:33Speaker 7: In our halftime show. Monster trucks.
- 38:37Speaker 4: That time than it is.
- 38:40Speaker 3: This will be a safe space for men. No wondering
- 38:43Speaker 3: if the.
- 38:44Speaker 7: Person next to you says they're fine, wondering if they're
- 38:47Speaker 7: really fine, mean what you say?
- 38:49Speaker 3: Damn it.
- 38:52Speaker 7: It's time to put our foot down and take back
- 38:55Speaker 7: sports men's night.
- 38:59Speaker 6: Hell yeah, I have so many adjusting your ticket ache.
- 39:04Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I'm well done. Was a standing ovation, even though I
- 39:08Speaker 3: can't stand.
- 39:09Speaker 5: I'm tired.
- 39:10Speaker 6: My only complaint is that for giving out Alan wrenches,
- 39:13Speaker 6: every respectable man already has a thousand of those in
- 39:16Speaker 6: his house. We don't need more Alan wrenches, okay, but
- 39:18Speaker 6: it's a staple. Also a safe space. I heard gunshots
- 39:21Speaker 6: and angry dogs.
- 39:22Speaker 5: How safe is so?
- 39:23Speaker 1: There's a couple of things that I heard. There was
- 39:25Speaker 1: a sawed off shotgun.
- 39:28Speaker 3: You could tell it was sawed off. I could tell.
- 39:31Speaker 1: There was the revving of a motorcycle. That were dogs barking.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I mean, but it's it's men's night. I mean, didn't
- 39:38Speaker 3: the Hawks try this and it got canceled. Yeah, yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 3: very much. A lady's night, Dan, You love that, didn't you.
- 39:47Speaker 3: I thought it was great.
- 39:49Speaker 9: I also love how the PD's like, let's make this
- 39:51Speaker 9: women's night, fifteen minute promo, men's night. Let's do a
- 39:55Speaker 9: ninety let's make it ninety seconds. Yeah, this is men's night.
- 39:58Speaker 9: We got a lot more to offer than the first pitch.
- 40:01Speaker 6: By the way, at a sporting event, all men do
- 40:05Speaker 6: is talk about their feelings regarding sports teams.
- 40:08Speaker 1: It's the same thing, not their actual feelings, just their
- 40:11Speaker 1: feeling towards the gym.
- 40:12Speaker 4: But I love this team, I hate this guy.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Those are all just talking.
- 40:16Speaker 4: About your feelings.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yes, Taylor, make me a copy of that. I want
- 40:23Speaker 1: to play it on my ride home and a loop.
- 40:24Speaker 6: Okay, be careful, he's going to be listening to stuff
- 40:33Speaker 6: on the way home.
- 40:34Speaker 4: It's going to make tonight miserable.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Yes, Ed, I thought Dan had something there.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Speaking of taking work home, I took the show sheet home,
- 40:41Speaker 1: the topic sheet home yesterday, because there.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Was a topic on there that was staring at me
- 40:47Speaker 3: without a smile. But it was just.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Staring at me and staring at me, staring at me,
- 40:52Speaker 1: and so I brought it home and I bright it
- 40:54Speaker 1: kept staring at me and I was staring back, and
- 40:56Speaker 1: I was like, I have to I have to address
- 40:58Speaker 1: this on the air because I've noticed it of my
- 41:00Speaker 1: friend Israel goudieiras.
- 41:03Speaker 3: He does not have the ability to smile.
- 41:08Speaker 1: What and so the way that is he phrased it
- 41:11Speaker 1: on the topic sheet, and that's why I brought it
- 41:12Speaker 1: home with me, and I'm going to bring it home
- 41:14Speaker 1: again along with that beautiful promo the tail or just
- 41:17Speaker 1: put together. He wrote it like this, I realize I
- 41:22Speaker 1: have an upside down smile. I literally can't smile correctly.
- 41:28Speaker 4: It's very disturbing.
- 41:29Speaker 6: I saw this as somebody was you see it now.
- 41:33Speaker 6: Somebody was making fun of somebody else onlines. I don't
- 41:35Speaker 6: forget who it was. It might eve even been Stephen
- 41:37Speaker 6: Miller or something like that, some evil person, and they
- 41:39Speaker 6: were just like, oh, look at him, he can't even
- 41:40Speaker 6: smile right, And I was like, oh wait a second.
- 41:43Speaker 6: And so I'm looking in the mirror and I start
- 41:44Speaker 6: smiling and I'm like, hang on, my top lip does
- 41:49Speaker 6: not curve upward at all. It's like it's almost sad
- 41:53Speaker 6: on the top end and happy on the bottom, and
- 41:56Speaker 6: I don't under I even looked it up to say,
- 41:58Speaker 6: wait a second, is you your top lip intended to
- 42:01Speaker 6: curve upward when you smile? And it says it right here, Yes,
- 42:04Speaker 6: in a natural, open or joyful smile, the top lip
- 42:07Speaker 6: is intended to elevate, lift and often curve upward. So
- 42:10Speaker 6: I'm either I have no joy in my life or
- 42:14Speaker 6: something wrong with my mouth.
- 42:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 42:16Speaker 6: I looked at a picture, interestingly enough, it was a
- 42:19Speaker 6: picture of me Stugat and Diana Racini on the set
- 42:21Speaker 6: of Highly Questionable, and it was the worst picture I
- 42:25Speaker 6: think you could ever pick for me and my smile,
- 42:27Speaker 6: even though it's gigantic on the top is frowning right.
- 42:30Speaker 1: It's one of those things. Until he brings it up,
- 42:33Speaker 1: you're not certain like you see it. The second he
- 42:35Speaker 1: brings it up, Dan Byer, it's like it's like he is.
- 42:41Speaker 3: He can't smile.
- 42:45Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 42:46Speaker 9: My screen is behind me, so I had to turn
- 42:49Speaker 9: around and unlock the screen. And the first thing, now
- 42:52Speaker 9: I saw to my geese point. Now I see it. Now,
- 42:55Speaker 9: I see the upside down smile. I don't want to
- 42:58Speaker 9: call him a brown smile, but.
- 43:01Speaker 6: I think does my teeth are too big, and so
- 43:03Speaker 6: my top lips just kind of goes up, like you know,
- 43:05Speaker 6: the top of shades or whatever, and it's like it
- 43:08Speaker 6: just doesn't have the option of curving, and now I
- 43:10Speaker 6: just don't. It's either that or I'm just a very
- 43:12Speaker 6: unhappy human being and there's nothing like it.
- 43:13Speaker 9: If you put sunglasses upside down on your chin and
- 43:16Speaker 9: then we flipped the picture over, would it be this
- 43:18Speaker 9: enormous grin that we don't know is there?
- 43:20Speaker 5: Yeah, one hundred.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Percent, my teeth would look up costume smile Cuzy.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Would you get corrective smile surgery?
- 43:28Speaker 3: I would one hundred.
- 43:29Speaker 6: Percent get corrective smile surgery, And then when I'm down there,
- 43:32Speaker 6: it looks so.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Much happier what happened CSS. I'd rather have that.
- 43:36Speaker 9: Smile than be the the guy who's always like that's
- 43:39Speaker 9: funny and never laughs.
- 43:41Speaker 3: So at least you laugh like I can, that's that's funny,
- 43:45Speaker 3: and you think he's lying because it's frowning.
- 43:48Speaker 6: Yeah, now, I'd just rather say that's funny, so people
- 43:50Speaker 6: don't look in my upside down smile.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Has anyone ever tried to take like a family photo
- 43:55Speaker 1: and they're like, hey, smile and they're like, Izzy, will
- 43:58Speaker 1: you smile.
- 44:00Speaker 3: On three? Do you say something else aside from cheese?
- 44:04Speaker 3: You know, like, is there a different word?
- 44:05Speaker 5: We could get.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Anything to get what's the opposite of cheese?
- 44:11Speaker 3: Listen?
- 44:11Speaker 1: I am telling you right now that Izzy is laughing
- 44:13Speaker 1: like guttural laugh and he looks happy.
- 44:16Speaker 3: But you would never know it's I mean, just because
- 44:19Speaker 3: oh it's weird.
- 44:21Speaker 4: I'm so unhappy.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Yes, Taylor sent me that promo in a loop. Hell yeah.

- 44:48Speaker 7: Gotts and Company. God Bless Football and with Stu Gotts
- 44:50Speaker 7: and Hawkman.
- 44:51Speaker 3: That's a hell of a read right there.
- 44:52Speaker 7: Thank you, well done?
- 44:53Speaker 3: Where the hell iszz he? Uh?
- 44:55Speaker 8: Well?
- 44:55Speaker 1: I sent him home because and he went home. I
- 44:57Speaker 1: didn't have to send him home. He just decided to
- 44:59Speaker 1: go home because he's tied right of talking about New
- 45:00Speaker 1: York sports. So you like it? Yeah, and so do
- 45:04Speaker 1: I get it. I totally understand. Listen, there was no communication.
- 45:08Speaker 1: He got up. I knew what he was doing. He
- 45:11Speaker 1: started packing up his backpack to leave. I didn't say
- 45:14Speaker 1: a word. He didn't say a word, and he left.
- 45:16Speaker 1: That was it, And I'm good with it. We deserve it.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I'm not certain we deserve him.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Thank you to Mike Francessa, thank you to Ryan Ruco,
- 45:25Speaker 1: thank you to mel kiper Junior, all three of us
- 45:28Speaker 1: for joining us today on this show. Mikey, I think
- 45:32Speaker 1: that we should have Daily's Show Awards. I do so
- 45:37Speaker 1: like today's MVP has to be Taylor. Ryan Ruco agreed
- 45:43Speaker 1: with his ridiculous take of trading not trading Cam Schlittler
- 45:48Speaker 1: for Paul Sken's a straight up you agree with that,
- 45:51Speaker 1: And then Francesa agreed with every single word he said.
- 45:53Speaker 1: And so for me anything to read. So for me today,
- 45:57Speaker 1: Taylor is the MVP and the d boy. He is
- 46:00Speaker 1: always Iowa Sam.
- 46:01Speaker 3: You know, I mean.
- 46:07Speaker 8: The problem.
- 46:07Speaker 7: Iowa Sam's hands are always in the passing late. I
- 46:16Speaker 7: love you, I said, what's going on here?
- 46:19Speaker 3: Nothing? You aren't listening. Good, you're perfect.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Congratulations, I'm winning Defensive Player of the Year.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Awesome of the show. Yes, you play, you play defense
- 46:29Speaker 3: against that were offense. Someone's got it.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yes, how do you guys imagine Lakers? So it's interesting.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I'm actually into this game because I'm into the storylines
- 46:40Speaker 1: of this game, Lakers and Rockets. The Lakers are going
- 46:43Speaker 1: to close that out tonight. Right, the Rockets are done, Taylor,
- 46:45Speaker 1: what do you think here? Durant's done?
- 46:47Speaker 3: Right?
- 46:47Speaker 7: Oh man, I don't I'm not necessarily there. I think
- 46:51Speaker 7: the Rockets. The Rockets are going to show some fight tonight.
- 46:54Speaker 7: That's my official prediction. I'm not making a prediction winner
- 46:57Speaker 7: or loser, but the Rockets, we're gonna come on tomorrow
- 47:01Speaker 7: and you guys are gonna be like, wow, tell her
- 47:02Speaker 7: is right. The Rockets showed some fight. Now they might
- 47:04Speaker 7: be eliminated and on a first flight to Kancum, but
- 47:07Speaker 7: they'll show fight.
- 47:08Speaker 3: But so that's like a win for them. Showing fight
- 47:10Speaker 3: without gets plus the points.
- 47:12Speaker 1: He's what he did, plus the fight, plus the fight.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Yes, of course he took the Rockets to win a
- 47:20Speaker 3: fight but lose the game. It's a weird take, but
- 47:23Speaker 3: I'm with them. It's hot.
- 47:25Speaker 1: No, Kevin Durant, I do think. Listen, Ryan Rocco is calling.
- 47:30Speaker 5: Games for the for the NBA, and.
- 47:33Speaker 3: So he's not gonna say what the NBA wants.
- 47:35Speaker 5: To say or wants to see.
- 47:38Speaker 3: I should say, so I will say it for him.
- 47:40Speaker 1: The NBA absolutely wants the Lakers to play in the
- 47:46Speaker 1: NBA Finals when you think of what's available to them
- 47:49Speaker 1: out West San Antonio, Okay, they're gonna make many NBA
- 47:53Speaker 1: finals when you consider the other options Oklahoma City, been there,
- 47:59Speaker 1: done that, boring ZZZ plus, and then you have a
- 48:02Speaker 1: chance to get the Lakers and Lebron in the NBA
- 48:05Speaker 1: Finals against let's say the Knicks or the Celtics.
- 48:08Speaker 5: It ain't gonna be the Calves.
- 48:10Speaker 1: That is an NBA final that the NBA wants, that
- 48:13Speaker 1: the fans want, that everyone wants.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Who wouldn't want that? You know?
- 48:17Speaker 10: I think you're absolutely right. I mean, obviously they want Lakers,
- 48:20Speaker 10: probably Nicks. But I would say this for the Spurs,
- 48:23Speaker 10: I feel like they need an origin story loss.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Like I feel like they.
- 48:26Speaker 10: Need to lose this one, even though they are so good,
- 48:30Speaker 10: just so that they can have that. Hey, we have
- 48:31Speaker 10: something we're fighting for next year. We have to overcome
- 48:35Speaker 10: that hurdle.
- 48:36Speaker 7: So this is the battle before they win the war.
- 48:38Speaker 10: Yes, Yes, this is the tragedy they have to go
- 48:42Speaker 10: through to become the superhero they're going to be.
- 48:45Speaker 8: Yes.
- 48:46Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on here, but I believe
- 48:48Speaker 1: because I just saw him on the zoom that since
- 48:50Speaker 1: we were talking NBA basketball, Izzy stopped his.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Car, hit the brakes, drove back, give up the trade
- 48:56Speaker 3: that we were talking NBA, and I was tributing. He's like,
- 49:02Speaker 3: now they're gonna talk NBA.
- 49:05Speaker 1: The second I spreach out of here is when these
- 49:08Speaker 1: three idiots are gonna start talking about the NBA.
- 49:11Speaker 3: Yep, even Mikeye is doing it.
- 49:14Speaker 1: And so I think, is he is coming back into studio.
- 49:19Speaker 1: He is, Oh my god, he's here. He made it
- 49:21Speaker 1: with a couple of minutes to spare, is he. I
- 49:23Speaker 1: told everyone that there was no committee mix. Yes, there
- 49:27Speaker 1: was no Let's go back to Yankees, is he. I
- 49:32Speaker 1: was telling everyone that that you left and there was
- 49:35Speaker 1: no communication. I knew you were tired of talking about
- 49:38Speaker 1: New York sports, and so you packed up your bags
- 49:42Speaker 1: and you got the hell out of here. And I
- 49:43Speaker 1: did say a word to you. What We don't blame you,
- 49:45Speaker 1: but it's amazing what happened once we started talking, MBA.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Somehow you were alerted to this. You turned around, you
- 49:52Speaker 1: came back, and you're like, let.
- 49:53Speaker 3: Me get two minutes.
- 49:54Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, I don't want to start a war
- 49:56Speaker 6: with New York. But yeah, that's that's not my lane.
- 49:58Speaker 4: I'm not gonna talk New York over and over and over.
- 50:01Speaker 1: No, but I feel bad that we do it to you,
- 50:02Speaker 1: like it's the draft and New York sports and.
- 50:04Speaker 3: We do too much of it.
- 50:06Speaker 4: It's draft season.
- 50:07Speaker 7: Yeah, you're right, so is He if you missed it.
- 50:09Speaker 7: My initial prediction for Rockets Lakers tonight was terrible. Yes,
- 50:13Speaker 7: the Rockets are going to show some fight.
- 50:14Speaker 1: Yes, which is why I texted is He and begged
- 50:17Speaker 1: him to please come back.
- 50:21Speaker 6: Well, now that we don't know about Austin Reeves really
- 50:24Speaker 6: and you could assume if he's not at one hundred
- 50:26Speaker 6: percent that he won't play, I think they are going
- 50:28Speaker 6: to bring some fight to this game. I think Taylor
- 50:30Speaker 6: absolutely nailed the analysis there. That really is what it is.
- 50:34Speaker 6: You just got to play harder against Lebron. He's forty
- 50:35Speaker 6: one years old, you can stop him.
- 50:37Speaker 1: It's okay, yep, do you expect now we have less
- 50:39Speaker 1: than a minute here, just so you know, Okay, do
- 50:42Speaker 1: you expect?
- 50:42Speaker 3: And I'm sorry you came all the way back just
- 50:44Speaker 3: for this.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Do you expect the Magic to close this out tonight
- 50:47Speaker 1: against Detroit?
- 50:48Speaker 3: It's in Detroit.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Detroit is down in this series three games to one,
- 50:52Speaker 1: eight seed versus a one seed.
- 50:54Speaker 5: But this is a bad one seed.
- 50:55Speaker 6: There's absolutely nothing about the Magic that makes me feel
- 50:58Speaker 6: like they're closers. They've had this, They've had this entire
- 51:01Speaker 6: season to figure out what they actually were and they're
- 51:03Speaker 6: not still really sure.
- 51:04Speaker 4: And so is it.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Ben Carol's team is a Desmond Baines team. Though, I
- 51:07Speaker 6: think Pistons extend the series.
- 51:09Speaker 3: Really, do you think the Pistons win the series.
- 51:13Speaker 8: One?
- 51:14Speaker 4: That's a tough one.
- 51:14Speaker 6: I know, you know what I'm gonna go, Tom, I'm
- 51:17Speaker 6: gonna say, yes, Wow, Pistons win the series.
- 51:19Speaker 4: Rockets take it to seven and losing seven, I mean, we.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Brought him all the way back, he was halfway home.
- 51:26Speaker 1: I mean to talk about the series that after you know,
- 51:29Speaker 1: Calves and Raptors, this is the second series.
- 51:32Speaker 5: I would say that no one's interested in
