- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and with me is Luna. Ready to learn some Dutch today? Luna: Yeah, I'm so excited! Last time we bought pastries at the bakery, and now I'm hungry for something savory. Lucas: Well, you're in luck. Today we're going to the market to buy cheese. Dutch cheese is famous worldwide. Luna: Oh, I love cheese! Let's learn how to ask for it. Lucas: First phrase: Ik wil graag kaas kopen. That means 'I would like to buy cheese.' Say it with me slowly: Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Luna: Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Lucas: Perfect. Now, at the market, you might ask the price: Hoeveel kost het? That's 'How much is it?' Repeat: Hoeveel kost het? Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Great. If you want a specific amount, you can say Mag ik een pond? A pond is half a kilogram, a common unit for cheese. So 'May I have a pound?' Mag ik een pond? Luna: Mag ik een pond? Lucas: Good. And when you decide, say Ik neem het. 'I'll take it.' Ik neem het. Luna: Ik neem het. Lucas: And finally, thank them: Dank u wel. You already know that one. Luna: Dank u wel. Okay, let me put it together. I walk up and say: Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Yes, and the seller says a price. Then you can say: Mag ik een pond? And then Ik neem het. Dank u wel. Luna: That sounds doable! Let's practice a little scene. Lucas: Alright. I'll be the seller. You come to my stall. Luna: Goedemiddag. Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: That is five euros per pound. Fantastisch. Luna: Mag ik een pond? Lucas: Certainly. Here you go. Luna: Ik neem het. Dank u wel. Lucas: See? You just bought cheese in Dutch. Let's repeat the phrases one more time. Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Luna: Ik wil graag kaas kopen. Lucas: Hoeveel kost het? Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Mag ik een pond? Luna: Mag ik een pond? Lucas: Ik neem het. Luna: Ik neem het. Lucas: Now, you might be wondering, is this really useful? Well, if you ever go to a Dutch market, these phrases will help you get the best cheese.
