- 0:00Ground Signal, Markets, and Economy. September
- 0:0311th, 2026, hosted by Tenet. This is Ground Signal.
- 0:08I'm Tenet. Today is September 11th, 2026, and
- 0:12the market story right now has two separate engines
- 0:15running at the same time, and they're pushing
- 0:18in opposite directions. Engine one, oil and geopolitics.
- 0:23Brent Crude has crossed $100 a barrel and kept
- 0:26going. We're looking at prices in the range of
- 0:28$108 today, according to market reports captured
- 0:31this morning. That is a roughly 12 to 15 percent
- 0:34move from where we were just a few weeks ago.
- 0:37And it is being driven almost entirely by the
- 0:40ongoing conflict between U .S. and Iranian forces
- 0:42in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian tankers struck.
- 0:44American naval vessels engaged. Commercial shipping
- 0:47slowing in one of the world's most critical maritime
- 0:49choke points. We covered the initial Houthi strikes
- 0:53and the Iranian restricted zone announcement.
- 0:56in our signal level four watch on September 8th.
- 0:58What we're seeing now is escalation beyond that
- 1:02original threat. S &P Global's Platts dated Brent
- 1:06Benchmark hit $114 on September 9th. That is
- 1:10a wartime premium on top of an already elevated
- 1:12baseline. The watch signal stays at four and
- 1:15is approaching five. Engine two, earnings. Oracle
- 1:18and Adobe both reported on September 10th after
- 1:21the close and both beat. Oracle's cloud infrastructure
- 1:24revenue surged 121 % year -over -year to $7 .4
- 1:28billion. Total revenue came in at $19 .3 billion.
- 1:32Shares popped roughly 7 % in after -hours. They
- 1:36fell back today. Oracle is trading at 152, down
- 1:405 .4%, as the broader market digested the oil
- 1:43shock on top of the CPI release this morning.
- 1:45Adobe hit record quarterly revenue of $6 .76
- 1:49billion. up 13 % year over year, with its AI
- 1:52first annual recurring revenue growing more than
- 1:55150%. Adobe shares are at 248, down 2 .4%, same
- 2:01story, strong results, but the macro headwinds
- 2:04are in charge today. The net read, the market
- 2:07is caught between strong technology earnings
- 2:09on one side and a legitimate geopolitical energy
- 2:13shock on the other. Neither story is going away
- 2:16before the Federal Reserve meets next week. Let's
- 2:19move to the tape. S &P 500, 7 ,591, down 44 points,
- 2:24down 0 .6%. This is a market under pressure,
- 2:28not a market in freefall. The prior close was
- 2:32around 7 ,635, and we've been in a gradual downtrend
- 2:36since the oil spike accelerated midweek. Nikkei
- 2:39225, 65 ,270, up 0 .2%. Tokyo is holding because
- 2:44the yen weakened. A weaker yen helps Japanese
- 2:47exporters, which partially offsets the oil import
- 2:50shock. Japan imports virtually all of its oil,
- 2:53so the Hormuz situation is a genuine structural
- 2:55risk there. Hang Seng, 24 ,954, down 1 .3%. Hong
- 3:01Kong is taking the worst of it in Asia. China's
- 3:04demand exposure to oil, combined with its own
- 3:07slowing growth signals, makes the Hang Seng the
- 3:09most vulnerable of the major indices to this
- 3:11oil shock scenario. DAX, 25 ,361, down 0 .8%.
- 3:17Germany has its own energy vulnerability, and
- 3:20European markets broadly are pricing in higher
- 3:22input costs for industry. The sector story today,
- 3:25energy is bid. Technology is mixed, NVIDIA is
- 3:29down 2 .4%, Intel down 5 .6%. On the positive
- 3:34side, Skyworks Solutions up nearly 10%, Corvo
- 3:38up 6 .8%, both chip companies with significant
- 3:41exposure to Apple's supply chain. And the market
- 3:44may be reading the Apple intelligence event as
- 3:47more positive for those suppliers than the broader
- 3:49market suggests. This is a day where individual
- 3:52earnings quality matters less than the oil shock
- 3:55narrative. Watch energy and watch whether Brent
- 3:58stabilizes or pushes toward 120. The bond market
- 4:02is the real tell right now. The 10 -year Treasury
- 4:05yield is sitting in the 4 .84 % to 4 .95 % range.
- 4:10That buyback program is designed to improve liquidity
- 4:12in the long end of the curve, but bond yields
- 4:15are still elevated. And the market is signaling
- 4:17it believes the Fed either cannot or will not
- 4:20cut rates anytime soon. Here is the mechanism
- 4:24that matters. Oil at $108 feeds directly into
- 4:28energy components of CPI. CPI printed this morning.
- 4:32The August report. The prior reading was 3 .4
- 4:35% year -over -year, with core month -over -month
- 4:37at 0 .2%. According to the CME FedWatch tool,
- 4:42there is a 62 .4 % probability of a 25 basis
- 4:45point rate hike at the September meeting. The
- 4:48current federal funds rate range is 3 .5 % to
- 4:513 .75%. A hike would be the most consequential
- 4:54tightening signal in months, particularly against
- 4:57the backdrop of oil -driven inflation and a slowing
- 5:00global growth picture. This is signal level 4.
- 5:03The dollar is strong, and that has cascading
- 5:05effects for every listener carrying a non -USD
- 5:08income. USD to Philippine peso, 62 .48 pesos
- 5:12per dollar, based on data through September 10th.
- 5:14The peso has been trading in the low 62 range
- 5:17for the past week, elevated relative to earlier
- 5:20this year. For Filipino remote workers or businesses
- 5:23invoicing in USD, this is a favorable spread.
- 5:26USD to Indonesian rupiah, 17 ,617 per dollar.
- 5:31the rupiah remains under mild pressure. USD to
- 5:34Thai baht, approximately 33 .0 per dollar. Thailand's
- 5:39DT5, the destination Thailand visa, remains one
- 5:43of the more attractive remote work options in
- 5:45the region. USD to Malaysian ringgit, 4 .03 per
- 5:49dollar. The DE Rantau Nomad Pass program in Malaysia
- 5:52continues to be active, with the government having
- 5:55expanded its eligibility criteria. The ringgit
- 5:57rate makes Malaysia genuinely cost -competitive.
- 6:00USD to Brazilian Real, 5 .13 per dollar. USD
- 6:04to Peruvian Sol, 3 .35 per dollar. The common
- 6:08thread across all of these EM pairs, dollar strength
- 6:11driven by U .S. rate hike expectations, is keeping
- 6:14pressure on emerging market currencies. This
- 6:17compresses the real value of local wages and
- 6:19savings for those holding positions in EM economies.
- 6:22If the Fed hikes next week, expect this pressure
- 6:25to intensify. Bitcoin. $77 ,031 today, down 1
- 6:32.2 % on the day. This continues the pullback
- 6:35from the $79 ,000 range we saw earlier this week.
- 6:38Signal level 2. Ethereum, $2 ,468, essentially
- 6:43flat. ETH is showing slightly more resilience
- 6:46than BTC. Solana, $99 .41, down 1 .6%. SOL has
- 6:53slipped below the psychologically significant
- 6:55$100 level. The macro narrative for crypto right
- 6:58now, Bitcoin's correlation with gold is being
- 7:01widely discussed. Both are off from their recent
- 7:03peaks. Gold is at $4 ,385 today, down about $21
- 7:08from prior session. When both gold and BTC pull
- 7:12back simultaneously in the context of oil -driven
- 7:14inflation, the read is that traders are raising
- 7:16cash, not rotating into traditional safe havens.
- 7:19That is risk -off behavior. If the CPI print
- 7:24comes in hot and the market raises FOMC hike
- 7:27probability further, expect both gold and BTC
- 7:30to face continued near -term pressure. Brent
- 7:33crude, $108 per barrel, as reported by Market
- 7:37Screener and Reuters linked sources. This is
- 7:40not a spike. This is a sustained, elevated level
- 7:43driven by a structural supply disruption. U .S.
- 7:47Iranian military engagement in the Strait of
- 7:48Hormuz has crossed from a geopolitical risk premium
- 7:51into an operational reality for shipping. If
- 7:54Iran formalizes or extends its restricted maritime
- 7:57zone, the next threshold is $115 to $120. At
- 8:01that level, you start to see demand destruction
- 8:03signals emerge from major Asian importing economies.
- 8:06Gold, $4 ,385 per ounce. The pullback from recent
- 8:11highs is consistent with cash -raising behavior
- 8:13in the broader risk -off environment. For globally
- 8:17mobile listeners, oil above $100 feeds directly
- 8:20into aviation fuel surcharges and transportation
- 8:23costs. If you're planning international moves
- 8:25in the next 60 to 90 days, factor in fuel surcharge
- 8:28increases from airlines, likely in the range
- 8:31of $10 to $20 per long -haul segment. Price these
- 8:34in now. Three items for the globally mobile community.
- 8:38Thailand destination, Thailand visa, the DTV
- 8:42remains active and accepting applications. It's
- 8:45a five -year multiple -entry visa with 180 -day
- 8:48stays per entry. And the bot rate at $33 per
- 8:51dollar makes Thailand one of the best cost -of
- 8:53-living propositions in Southeast Asia for dollar
- 8:56-income remote workers. Malaysia DE Rantau Nomad
- 9:00Pass, the Malaysian government has expanded eligibility
- 9:02for the DE Rantau program per the Ministry of
- 9:05Digital Announcement. If you've been considering
- 9:07Kuala Lumpur and at $4 .03 per dollar, you should
- 9:11be. This expansion means more applicants now
- 9:13qualify. Check the Ministry of Digital Malaysia
- 9:16site for updated eligibility criteria. Philippines
- 9:20Digital Nomad Visa, the Philippines DN -5, is
- 9:23operating under Executive Order 86, which authorizes
- 9:26the Department of Foreign Affairs to issue one
- 9:28-year renewable visas to remote workers whose
- 9:31clients or employers are based outside the Philippines.
- 9:33With the peso at $62 per dollar, the Philippines
- 9:37remains one of the highest value environments
- 9:39for dollar income holders in Asia. DV -2027 Update
- 9:43The State Department has announced that the application
- 9:45period for DV -2027 visa winners runs from October
- 9:491, 2026 through September 30, 2027. The registration
- 9:54window to enter the lottery has not yet been
- 9:56officially announced. Stay alert for the official
- 9:58announcement from the State Department. Three
- 10:01developments to watch over the next 24 to 72
- 10:04hours. Signal 1. FOMC September 15 and 16. The
- 10:09Federal Reserve meets in four days. CME FedWatch
- 10:13is pricing 62 .4 % probability of a 25 basis
- 10:17point hike. If today's CPI August report comes
- 10:20in above expectations, above 3 .4 % year over
- 10:23year, or above 0 .2 % core, that probability
- 10:26will move higher, possibly to 70 % or above.
- 10:30A hot print would hit equities, strengthen the
- 10:32dollar further, and pressure EM currencies. A
- 10:35cool print would offer the Fed cover to hold,
- 10:37and markets would likely rally. This is the highest
- 10:41priority forward signal. Watch for the 8 .30
- 10:43Eastern release and subsequent Fed commentary.
- 10:46Signal level four. Signal two, Hormuz escalation
- 10:50threshold. Brent above 108 means the market has
- 10:55priced in disruption, but not catastrophe. The
- 10:58trigger to watch is any formal Iranian government
- 11:01announcement of a restricted maritime zone or
- 11:03any U .S. military strike that goes beyond tanker
- 11:06-to -tanker engagement. If either happens, the
- 11:08risk premium reprices rapidly toward 120 and
- 11:11beyond. Signal level 4 to 5, watch. Signal 3,
- 11:16Oracle follow -through. Oracle's cloud infrastructure
- 11:19growth of 121 % year -over -year is one of the
- 11:23most significant enterprise technology data points
- 11:25of the quarter. Watch whether Oracle recovers
- 11:28on Monday or continues to track the macro -driven
- 11:30sell -off. If it holds and re -rates higher,
- 11:33the market is beginning to value AI infrastructure
- 11:35winners through the geopolitical noise. Signal
- 11:38level two. That is your ground signal for September
- 11:4111th. I'm Tenet. Stay positioned. Stay mobile.
- 11:45We'll be back.
