- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. Welcome to you Girls Gone Hamewark, a bonus
- 0:13Speaker 1: episode of Long Story Short the podcast I'm Megan, I'm
- 0:17Speaker 1: Wendy and a quick refresher against a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Wendy is the twenty twenty recruit and we share our
- 0:27Speaker 1: thoughts on all things Hallmarks. Today we are discussing the
- 0:30Speaker 1: movie Unthinkably Good Things, which originally aired on August twenty eight,
- 0:35Speaker 1: twenty two, on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Channel across all platforms across all I know you don't
- 0:42Speaker 2: watch commercials. I don't, so they did a lot of
- 0:46Speaker 2: promo leading up to this movie that this movie was
- 0:50Speaker 2: like an event across all platforms.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I like it. So it's like Hallmark Movies now the
- 0:57Speaker 1: Hallmark Channel.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I don't know if they all aired at the same time,
- 1:00Speaker 2: but it belongs to Movies and Mysteries.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I believe that's its home.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and again people are pissed that the mysteries are
- 1:09Speaker 2: gone off of homework movies and mysteries. I like a
- 1:12Speaker 2: mystery movie. You know what I really want? This is
- 1:14Speaker 2: such a tangent, guys, I want that Goldie though. You know,
- 1:18Speaker 2: Andrew Walker and the Baker mysteries Nicky Deloache Death by Chocolate?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Was that what it was called? Called Curious Caterer Dying
- 1:30Speaker 1: for Chocolate. But I think we could get a whole
- 1:32Speaker 1: Curious Caterer series going. I hope they do. If you
- 1:36Speaker 1: want to connect with us outside of the podcast, you
- 1:38Speaker 1: can always follow us on Instagram. We are at Megan
- 1:41Speaker 1: and Wendy and TikTok. We are also at Megan and Wendy.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Or you can email us Megan and Wendy at gmail
- 1:50Speaker 2: dot com. We're curious. We want to know what you
- 1:53Speaker 2: think of these movies. Give us your reviews, your thoughts
- 1:57Speaker 2: on them, your hot takes. We're into it. We're just
- 2:01Speaker 2: not a solo, you know, out here on an island
- 2:04Speaker 2: by ourselves reviewing Hallmark movies. I want it to be
- 2:06Speaker 2: a conversation.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yes, And if you want to talk with other Hallmark
- 2:09Speaker 1: movie fans, join our exclusive Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 2:14Speaker 1: which is both linked in our show notes and you
- 2:15Speaker 1: can find just by searching girls Gone Hallmark on Facebook. Something.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I don't know if the listeners know what, but as
- 2:23Speaker 1: you're listening to podcasts, you can leave reviews and that's
- 2:27Speaker 1: so beneficial to other podcasts listeners, so they know what's
- 2:32Speaker 1: a good podcast and what's a dud. And it helps
- 2:35Speaker 1: us out a lot. And I'm going to read a
- 2:36Speaker 1: recent Hallmark review. Let's hear it from a guy who
- 2:40Speaker 1: likes Girls Gone Hallmark. Megan and Wendy have quietly created
- 2:44Speaker 1: the best Hallmark movie podcast out there. They're quick witted
- 2:47Speaker 1: and entertaining, yet not afraid to call out the network
- 2:49Speaker 1: for taking false steps. But they also give a Hallmark
- 2:52Speaker 1: credit where it's due for advancing their programming to reflect
- 2:56Speaker 1: a changing demographic. To cap it all off, their audio
- 2:59Speaker 1: quality is excellent and each episode is just the right length.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Check it out.
- 3:03Speaker 2: That's so very nice, and I'd like to share a
- 3:06Speaker 2: note about podcast quality audio please. That was my biggest
- 3:13Speaker 2: worry when we started. Yes, it needed to sound good,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and I think our podcasts episodes sound really good. Again.
- 3:20Speaker 1: If you want to know how we do that, we
- 3:21Speaker 1: have a blog post all about the equipment that we use. Yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 1: if you're interested in becoming we really got in the weeds,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I think before we started this trying to choose the
- 3:29Speaker 1: equipment and figuring out how that worked. And it is
- 3:32Speaker 1: because we're two people and how do we record when
- 3:34Speaker 1: we're in the same room, and how do we record
- 3:36Speaker 1: when we're not in the same room? And we figured
- 3:38Speaker 1: it out. Taken the world by storm, one Hallmark movie
- 3:42Speaker 1: at a time, that's right.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Any homemark news of late that should be.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Discussed, well, Luke McFarlane, Oh yeah, who starred in hits
- 3:55Speaker 1: like Hits? Do attics Christmas?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Uh?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Huh? Did Julie smol Yeah, I'm taking a shot at
- 4:02Speaker 1: least duh. Yeah, I like that movie, me too. Watch that.
- 4:07Speaker 1: He has a big screen movie coming out called Bros.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And he says that this year's Hallmark movie, Christmas Village
- 4:15Speaker 1: will likely be his last. I knew it. So I
- 4:18Speaker 1: read two different articles. Okay. One the quote is I
- 4:22Speaker 1: think I've told my story for now with these folks.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, how many firefighters can I play? Oh my gosh. Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 1: And another was from Vanity Fair where he said I
- 4:30Speaker 1: don't think they'll ever have me back after today.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Now, Luke McFarland is an openly gay man. Yeah, he jokes.
- 4:38Speaker 1: He's like, you look at my IMDb and it's a
- 4:40Speaker 1: lot of like me with white ladies, and so I
- 4:43Speaker 1: think he feels like he said he was very grateful
- 4:47Speaker 1: for the opportunities Hallmark gave him. He's definitely a Hallmark
- 4:50Speaker 1: leading man, but I think he's ready to take the
- 4:53Speaker 1: next step. I'm very happy for him me too.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I knew it when I saw the preview for Bros.
- 5:00Speaker 2: First of all, I was like shocked. I was so
- 5:03Speaker 2: excited for him. I mean, this is like a big
- 5:05Speaker 2: role in a big movie. Like it's a big, big movie,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and I think it's a jet appetite Oh movie, it
- 5:11Speaker 2: is a Jet Appatow movie. Billy Eckner, he's the other
- 5:14Speaker 2: guy in the movie. Mm hm. Anyway, a big Jet
- 5:17Speaker 2: Apptow movie. I'm excited for him. I thought for sure
- 5:23Speaker 2: he wasn't gonna go back to Hallmark after this. Not
- 5:25Speaker 2: that like people who turn are gonna be like, oh,
- 5:29Speaker 2: now I'm a leading man in a you know, theatrical release.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'm too good for Hallmark. I don't think that's the case.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think.
- 5:41Speaker 2: What you said about Rose is a movie about same
- 5:45Speaker 2: sex couples, and he's an openly gay man. I just
- 5:49Speaker 2: think like his Hallmark ship has sailed, like he's ready
- 5:53Speaker 2: to step into like the roles he's maybe more comfortable playing.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm here for it.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I want to watch this movie. I think it's very funny.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I'm very excited to look at him. He's so pretty
- 6:03Speaker 2: on the eyes. I'm so I'm very thrilled for him.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Me too, very thrilled.
- 6:09Speaker 1: That's all the Hallmark news and notes that I have.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Did you have anything else to say?
- 6:12Speaker 2: No, I'm just waiting for more. There's got to be
- 6:15Speaker 2: like a big Christmas Christmas announcement.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yes, I've been looking to We do know October twenty
- 6:22Speaker 1: second is the start date for Countdown to Christmas, so
- 6:26Speaker 1: hopefully we get some more information about that coming soon. Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Do you want to do a synopsis?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Unthinkably good Things? I will now this synopsis on the
- 6:35Speaker 2: Homework website was super long. Oh, and I'm not going
- 6:39Speaker 2: to read that, so I'm going to read the one
- 6:40Speaker 2: from IMDb, which is like less wordy. This movie follows Allison,
- 6:46Speaker 2: who is at a crossroads and her career and love life,
- 6:50Speaker 2: in need of love and support from her two friends
- 6:53Speaker 2: after visiting her in Tuscany. Each woman will re examine
- 6:57Speaker 2: the state of their own life and relationships.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We will revisit that. But I think there's a reason
- 7:03Speaker 1: why these synopsies are too long. Ooh, interesting okay, my
- 7:08Speaker 1: first news and note, which was information that is brand
- 7:11Speaker 1: new to me, And most of this information is brand
- 7:13Speaker 1: new to me. But Mahogany, which is the brand under
- 7:17Speaker 1: which this movie was developed, as well as a movie
- 7:20Speaker 1: coming out this weekend called to Her With Up, is
- 7:23Speaker 1: actually a brand that started in nineteen eighty seven in
- 7:26Speaker 1: Hallmark as a sixteen card promotion and it has continued
- 7:30Speaker 1: as a year round offering. So Mahogany has been a
- 7:33Speaker 1: brand that has existed in the Hallmark card line and
- 7:37Speaker 1: so this twenty twenty two extension is an add on
- 7:41Speaker 1: to that brand. They're all part of their trying to
- 7:44Speaker 1: be a multimedia brand.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Okay, so, and the Mahogany brand originally was made to
- 7:51Speaker 2: celebrate the cultures of people of color. Yes, okay, so, okay,
- 7:58Speaker 2: I'm just trying to envision like a Hallmark store and
- 8:00Speaker 2: they probably have like a little Mahogany section.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Right then you want to be able to buy a
- 8:05Speaker 1: car that doesn't just picture like a white lady saying happy,
- 8:09Speaker 1: but sure, totally get it.
- 8:11Speaker 2: This movie was filmed entirely on location in Italy during
- 8:15Speaker 2: March twenty twenty two. It's kind of interesting because it's
- 8:19Speaker 2: usually a very big deal when they film movies like
- 8:23Speaker 2: in different countries, like for example, the Wedding Veil they
- 8:27Speaker 2: filmed in Italy. Right, it was like a big deal.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Like prior to the movie coming out, like we knew
- 8:33Speaker 2: there was a lot of promotion that this movie was
- 8:35Speaker 2: filmed on location. I didn't hear a lot of movie
- 8:39Speaker 2: stuff about where they filmed this movie. Hmm, kind of surprise.
- 8:43Speaker 1: They must have.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Had a big ass budget for this movie, don't you think,
- 8:48Speaker 2: with the size of their cast, especially yes, looking at
- 8:51Speaker 2: the Hallmark channel Instagram.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Because I have two thoughts about that. One is it
- 8:55Speaker 1: potential because the actors in this movie are not Hallmark
- 8:59Speaker 1: big names. It's not like a Lacey Schevert or a
- 9:03Speaker 1: Tyler Hines on location or even a Will Kemp who's
- 9:06Speaker 1: been known to start in a Hallmark movie. It's these
- 9:09Speaker 1: are not typically Hallmark actors and actresses, and so therefore
- 9:14Speaker 1: maybe that's why we didn't get the buzz. Also, Hallmark,
- 9:18Speaker 1: here's my problem with what's happening here. Last year, Hallmark
- 9:22Speaker 1: during countdown to Christmas would release three movies a weekend,
- 9:28Speaker 1: and their Instagram promotion would always lean very heavily on
- 9:31Speaker 1: one of those movies and sometimes to the detriment of
- 9:35Speaker 1: movies that starre actors of color. Right, Like, you got
- 9:38Speaker 1: these two big white leads and they're getting seven Instagram
- 9:41Speaker 1: posts and you get one about these other movies. And
- 9:45Speaker 1: I found it disappointing. And so when you said that,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I thought, well, let me take a look. It would
- 9:51Speaker 1: appear that we have one unthinkably good things as for example,
- 10:01Speaker 1: Mary May Yosemite has oh I'm sorry, three unthinkably good
- 10:05Speaker 1: things has one, two, three, four, five, six, seven eight,
- 10:12Speaker 1: stop and just saying they don't do a great job
- 10:16Speaker 1: of balancing. And by the way, marry me and Yosemite
- 10:20Speaker 1: is a Cindy Busby joint. Yeah, just a little more
- 10:22Speaker 1: balance would be nice.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Hallmark, you know that's really interesting because I thought the
- 10:29Speaker 2: TV promotion, the commercials for this movie prior to its
- 10:33Speaker 2: airing were great. I thought they were great. They're really
- 10:37Speaker 2: failing in the social media aspect.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I wonder, see, this is what I say. It's like
- 10:43Speaker 1: two steps forward, two steps back. With Hallmark.
- 10:47Speaker 2: They do things like introduce to Mahogany brand and make
- 10:50Speaker 2: all these movies with predominantly cast made up of people
- 10:55Speaker 2: of color, which Bravo like I'm here for it. But
- 11:00Speaker 2: then like it's like they try to like slide it in,
- 11:04Speaker 2: like let's see if this is gonna work before we
- 11:07Speaker 2: like put the marketing dollars into it.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, don't give people on Instagram too much to
- 11:12Speaker 1: yell about exactly. Oh, Hallmark is so woke, Like just
- 11:15Speaker 1: put it in there. I hope people will watch it. Yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I don't. We don't want the backlash, right right, right?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Oh so frustrating. Is it intentional or is it unintentional?
- 11:25Speaker 1: In which case they need to look at why one
- 11:27Speaker 1: movie would have eight Instagram posts dedicated where another one
- 11:30Speaker 1: has three.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's Yeah. Oh that makes me mad.
- 11:39Speaker 2: I'm like fired up about that.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Speaking of unbalanced reaction to this movie, I looked at IMDb.
- 11:47Speaker 1: There was exactly one review and it's been a full
- 11:50Speaker 1: nine days since this movie aired. I'm shocked.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Either they are deleting comments on there, or reviews on
- 11:58Speaker 2: there that are negative, negative, or people didn't watch the movie.
- 12:04Speaker 1: As much as I dislike when the reviewers get in
- 12:08Speaker 1: there and say Hallmarkets too woke, I also think it's
- 12:13Speaker 1: a good gauge. I want to see what the Hallmark
- 12:16Speaker 1: community thinks of these movies, right, and so I hope
- 12:19Speaker 1: that they're not editing reviews that are uncomplimentary, assuming they're
- 12:25Speaker 1: not blatantly racist.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Right. This movie was directed by Terry J.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Vaughn.
- 12:30Speaker 2: She's an actor, director, producer. Previous and directing credits include
- 12:34Speaker 2: a ton of holiday movies. She also has seventy two
- 12:38Speaker 2: acting credits, including shows like The Neighborhood and HBO's Insecure.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, she's a busy actress too.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Speaking of Chasing Waterfalls, Joyful Drake, who plays Molina in
- 12:53Speaker 1: this movie, also played a role in Chasing Waterfalls alongside
- 12:57Speaker 1: Cindy Busby.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I know I had a good check when you mentioned
- 13:00Speaker 2: Chasing Waterfalls earlier. I was like, I wonder if you
- 13:03Speaker 2: saw that note too.
- 13:05Speaker 1: That's funny. And Karen Pittman, who plays Alison, had a
- 13:10Speaker 1: large role in the And just like that series on HBO,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Max not I hated Oh you hated it, I didn't
- 13:18Speaker 1: hate it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Not only that, she's one of the leads on the
- 13:21Speaker 2: morning show on Apple TV. She's been in Yellowstone Homeland.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I mean, she's been in some big shows. She's definitely
- 13:31Speaker 2: most recognizable, I think compared to the other actors in
- 13:36Speaker 2: this movie. I was not familiar with anybody other than
- 13:39Speaker 2: Karen Pittman.
- 13:40Speaker 1: All right, I have one last note.
- 13:43Speaker 2: The writer of this movie is Kaz Singer's Beatles. I
- 13:48Speaker 2: hope I'm saying that right. She's an established writer both novels.
- 13:52Speaker 2: She has got like eight or nine novels, and a
- 13:55Speaker 2: writer for television and movies cool and has worked with
- 13:59Speaker 2: director evonn a lot.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Wasn't she the writer of Sugarplum Twist?
- 14:04Speaker 2: She was it?
- 14:05Speaker 1: Stars Ector rivera star of ground as well. Yes, fun
- 14:09Speaker 1: little tie in there. Yeah. What was your first impression
- 14:13Speaker 1: of this movie?
- 14:15Speaker 2: My first impression is I want more.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Movies like this nice. Mine was I need to step
- 14:22Speaker 1: up my vacation wardrobe. Oh my gosh. I have a
- 14:25Speaker 1: note about that later. What did you like about this movie? Okay?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Well I have a kind of big list of things
- 14:32Speaker 2: that I like.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 2: First of all, I love that this wasn't just a
- 14:38Speaker 2: typical Hallmark movie, felt like a real movie to be.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And when I say that is because when we first
- 14:45Speaker 2: started doing these Hallmark movie reviews, the ones that stood
- 14:49Speaker 2: out to me, I would say, this is like a
- 14:51Speaker 2: real movie, Yes, you know, like one you would find
- 14:52Speaker 2: on a streaming service. So I really thought this had
- 14:56Speaker 2: like the feel from top to bottom with like a
- 15:00Speaker 2: good cast, It had a good soundtrack, It was beautiful
- 15:03Speaker 2: to look at, like it felt like a real movie.
- 15:08Speaker 2: The thing that I liked the best about it, though,
- 15:10Speaker 2: is that its focus was on friendship, yes, rather than romance,
- 15:17Speaker 2: which romance was a you know, storyline, but the through
- 15:20Speaker 2: line was friendship and it was very similar to me
- 15:23Speaker 2: or I had the same feelings towards the wedding veil, Yes,
- 15:27Speaker 2: where you have like a group of adult women who
- 15:31Speaker 2: support and care for each other, and we're so inundated
- 15:34Speaker 2: with like shows on Bravo that are just like women
- 15:38Speaker 2: fighting all the time. Like, So it was so refreshing
- 15:41Speaker 2: to see like a group of women who really cared
- 15:44Speaker 2: for each other and cared about each other's lives. That's
- 15:48Speaker 2: what I want more of.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And in that vein, I liked that they loved each other.
- 15:53Speaker 1: This movie was about that kind of love. But they
- 15:56Speaker 1: were not afraid to call each other out and to
- 15:59Speaker 1: break promises that they had made when it became clear
- 16:02Speaker 1: that it wasn't in the best of their friends to
- 16:04Speaker 1: keep these secrets because they needed each other to pull
- 16:08Speaker 1: their heads out of their asses in a way. It
- 16:10Speaker 1: was nice.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I felt it was refreshing, super refreshing. I really liked
- 16:16Speaker 2: the inside jokes that's okay with each other. They had
- 16:20Speaker 2: like an easy conversational feel, like the acting was so good,
- 16:24Speaker 2: like just the way that they would bounce off each other.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And I had a criticism last week in grounds while
- 16:32Speaker 2: where I felt it was very stilted, like I'm reacting
- 16:36Speaker 2: to you while you're reacting it just this was heads
- 16:39Speaker 2: and tels above that.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Yeah, the chemistry between the women was great.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Right exactly did you catch the TikTok mention in this movie?
- 16:49Speaker 1: I don't recall I'm paraphrasing, but there was a joke
- 16:53Speaker 1: made about TikTok and one of them just said, like,
- 16:55Speaker 1: we're too old for TikTok.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And I just thought it was so freaking funny because
- 17:00Speaker 2: because that's how I feel often. Yeah, TikTok, I'm too
- 17:03Speaker 2: old for a lot of things, especially TikTok.
- 17:05Speaker 1: M H. I thought this movie was visually stunning set
- 17:08Speaker 1: on location in Italy. Of course, the scenery provided a
- 17:12Speaker 1: beautiful backdrop to this movie, but I also think wardrobe
- 17:15Speaker 1: deserves the highest of fives because these women were beautifully dressed,
- 17:19Speaker 1: and they each had their own style, but they made
- 17:21Speaker 1: it so that their styles were complimentary to each other,
- 17:24Speaker 1: so that then were walking down a street together. You've
- 17:26Speaker 1: got this like beautiful array of color. And I thought,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I want to be the kind of person who brings
- 17:31Speaker 1: beautiful dresses and pantsuits and outfits so that I look
- 17:35Speaker 1: camera ready at all times when I'm traveling, although I'll
- 17:38Speaker 1: be with my family who's in there like T shirt
- 17:40Speaker 1: and cargo shorts, but I want to have a beautiful
- 17:45Speaker 1: vacation wardrobe. It felt very aspirational.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I've never had a beautiful vacation order. I would love
- 17:51Speaker 2: to go to Paris or Italy and dress to the
- 17:53Speaker 2: nines every single day and look like I fit the part.
- 17:56Speaker 2: The script to me so the difficult conversations that were
- 18:03Speaker 2: sprinkled throughout in this movie, and I thought that it
- 18:09Speaker 2: really probably hit for many of the people who watch,
- 18:13Speaker 2: like the demographics, like we're talking about infertility, and we're
- 18:17Speaker 2: talking about health and cancer and career change and divorce.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I mean, we just talked for an hour on our
- 18:25Speaker 2: Tuesday podcast about career you know, parenting and career change.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Once our kids are older coming next week.
- 18:31Speaker 2: You're right, So I think that I want homework to
- 18:37Speaker 2: make more movies like that. Like I realized that people
- 18:41Speaker 2: like to watch movies to escape. But a movie about
- 18:45Speaker 2: a twenty something who falls in love with a prince
- 18:50Speaker 2: like is so unrelatable for me that I can't get
- 18:55Speaker 2: into it. That's why I like scoff it like to
- 18:58Speaker 2: me when we say Homer, maybe that's what I think of,
- 19:01Speaker 2: and I'm like, I can't, I can't do it. Give
- 19:03Speaker 2: me something that I can like hang my hat on
- 19:07Speaker 2: and feel relatable to. I hear what you're saying. I
- 19:12Speaker 2: like a balance. I do like an escape. I read
- 19:14Speaker 2: a lot of books that are very unrealistic.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I read a lot of romance. There's always a happy ending.
- 19:18Speaker 1: There's always these you know, over the top relationships, and
- 19:22Speaker 1: I like that in my movies sometimes too. But I
- 19:25Speaker 1: like a balance. And I liked that these women, while
- 19:28Speaker 1: making a Hallmark movie, while you know we're going to
- 19:31Speaker 1: get a happy ending across the board, they weren't afraid
- 19:34Speaker 1: to go there, and I couldn't always predict where they
- 19:39Speaker 1: were going to go, and I wondered Alison was so
- 19:43Speaker 1: reluctant to take this job in spite of the fact
- 19:45Speaker 1: that she loved living in Italy, she loved the people
- 19:48Speaker 1: she worked with, She had this relationship that she was
- 19:51Speaker 1: clearly invested in but really wanted, felt compelled to take
- 19:56Speaker 1: the ten year track position and they she explains to
- 20:00Speaker 1: her friends and tell Luca, as a black woman, I
- 20:03Speaker 1: don't feel like I can afford to take these chances
- 20:05Speaker 1: on my career. This is offering me stability that I
- 20:08Speaker 1: feel like I would be foolish to turn away. And
- 20:10Speaker 1: it didn't occur to me because they were both great jobs.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It wasn't like she was like, I'm just gonna Instagram
- 20:18Speaker 1: for the rest of my life. But I liked that perspective,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and I think that is another reason when the woke
- 20:27Speaker 1: police get upset. Not only is it important for people
- 20:30Speaker 1: to be able to turn on the TV and see
- 20:32Speaker 1: a world that looks like their's reflected back at them,
- 20:36Speaker 1: but it's also important to see storylines that reflect struggles
- 20:39Speaker 1: that you have reflected back at them, and stories that
- 20:41Speaker 1: are not like I'm the big town real estate developer
- 20:45Speaker 1: coming to mow down your candy store. So I liked
- 20:52Speaker 1: that they went there.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yes, my next note is I don't have like the
- 20:55Speaker 2: perfect place for it, So I'm gonna put it here.
- 20:58Speaker 2: There has been some critics that this movie had too
- 21:01Speaker 2: much going on, like too many storylines.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Oh, yes, that's I have.
- 21:05Speaker 2: My thoughts on that is that life is full. Yes,
- 21:10Speaker 2: and then you multiply that by three women. Yes, a
- 21:13Speaker 2: very full two hours of stories. Right.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So if it was a singular.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Storyline just about Allison and choosing the job, we would
- 21:22Speaker 2: just have a very watered down look at life. And
- 21:26Speaker 2: so I appreciate that there was multiple stories, multiple layers,
- 21:32Speaker 2: and depth to this movie, even if it was too
- 21:35Speaker 2: much for somebody. But let me also add I do
- 21:40Speaker 2: hate those Hallmark movies that have like your main storyline
- 21:43Speaker 2: and then they throw in these like weird side stories
- 21:46Speaker 2: because they.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Need to move it along.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yes, so, but I think those are two very different movies.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I like the perspective that life is full and there's
- 21:54Speaker 1: a lot going on. Let me offer you an alternate perspective.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And with that, I hope we're transpositioning to our wish,
- 22:00Speaker 1: because this is my one and only wish in this movie.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Comparing this to the Wedding Veil, where we had three
- 22:08Speaker 1: women and three of their own stories that got three movies,
- 22:12Speaker 1: and here we have three co stars with three very
- 22:16Speaker 1: full lives outside of their relation. I would say, honestly,
- 22:20Speaker 1: they have more going in their lives than the women
- 22:23Speaker 1: in the Wedding Veil did. And I felt like we
- 22:26Speaker 1: weren't fully able to do justice to each of those
- 22:29Speaker 1: storylines in this hour and twenty minutes that we actually
- 22:33Speaker 1: got to see them on screen. I agree, So I
- 22:37Speaker 1: would just have liked to see more from them. I
- 22:40Speaker 1: think you could very easily do a sequel, because as
- 22:45Speaker 1: much as all three women had their storyline, we were
- 22:48Speaker 1: in Allison's turf most of the time, and so a
- 22:51Speaker 1: lot of the splinters were meeting her boyfriend's mom and
- 22:56Speaker 1: meeting the people that she works with. And I think
- 22:58Speaker 1: you could do another movie where you have Molina and
- 23:01Speaker 1: the restaurant is the center of the story, and the
- 23:05Speaker 1: other two women are involved, and you have Resa discovering
- 23:10Speaker 1: life with or after infertility. I do think there's more
- 23:15Speaker 1: to do with this movie, It's all I'm saying. And
- 23:17Speaker 1: these characters, I agree. I don't think that's gonna happen,
- 23:20Speaker 1: though I don't either. I think I think they the
- 23:23Speaker 1: movie had a big get with Karen Pittman. I don't
- 23:26Speaker 1: think she's gonna become a regular Homewark star though I
- 23:29Speaker 1: love it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I mean, so would I. I mean, I want to
- 23:33Speaker 2: watch good actors on Homemark. Yeah, and that I'm saying
- 23:38Speaker 2: that it's beneath her. I'm just saying that I think
- 23:43Speaker 2: it was a maybe for this first movie, they needed
- 23:47Speaker 2: like a very recognizable actor. I only have one thing
- 23:51Speaker 2: that I wished for. I felt this movie was a
- 23:55Speaker 2: tad bitlong, and I know it.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Was probably only one hundred and twenty mine. And it's
- 24:00Speaker 1: like you said, but.
- 24:01Speaker 2: The later third of the movie, like I just felt
- 24:05Speaker 2: it dragged a little bit, especially and this is I'm
- 24:11Speaker 2: conflicted about saying, especially when Alison was going back and
- 24:14Speaker 2: forth about the job stuff. But like you said earlier,
- 24:19Speaker 2: it was a very you know, interesting perspective for her
- 24:22Speaker 2: to weigh those things. But it made for me the
- 24:25Speaker 2: movie to drag just a snitch time for did to
- 24:31Speaker 2: see that, you know, I don't. I don't have anything
- 24:34Speaker 2: in particular other than it was such a dreamy location
- 24:37Speaker 2: in gorgeous clothing.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I want I love that.
- 24:41Speaker 2: That felt very like nice to look at.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Oh. Yeah, I have a few things to say okay. One,
- 24:46Speaker 1: a restaurant of viewer is not going to let you
- 24:48Speaker 1: schedule the review. Oh, a restaurant viewer wants to know
- 24:51Speaker 1: what it's like to come eat in your restaurant, not
- 24:53Speaker 1: when I know you're coming. So I'm going to provide
- 24:54Speaker 1: the perfect experience. What's it like when you've got all
- 24:56Speaker 1: the other pressures of running a restaurant? That's what their
- 24:58Speaker 1: review wants to do. Is I like always a surprise? Oh,
- 25:02Speaker 1: please come when I know I'm going to be there. No,
- 25:06Speaker 1: you know, I love to dig into the tweets about
- 25:09Speaker 1: these movies, and so I've got a couple tweets i'd
- 25:11Speaker 1: like to share. One is a quote from the movie
- 25:14Speaker 1: that I forgot about, and I remember being affected by
- 25:18Speaker 1: the quote when I heard it, and I was glad
- 25:20Speaker 1: to see that someone had tweeted it. And it's from
- 25:22Speaker 1: at One Dry Kiss, which is another Hallmark viewer. The
- 25:27Speaker 1: quote is, I have a job. I can't play with
- 25:29Speaker 1: you all day. Oh that's funny, And that's what Reese's
- 25:32Speaker 1: husband says to her when she's like I'm bored. Yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Oh, I kind of hits close to home.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Another is Karen Pittman tweeted film factoid. I literally filmed
- 25:45Speaker 1: the kissing scene with Luca on day two of our
- 25:49Speaker 1: filming in Italy. It was so crazy and add the
- 25:51Speaker 1: romantic to kiss a stranger. But by the eighth take,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I think we figured it out.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Isn't that funny how they shoot all these things out
- 25:59Speaker 2: of order, Like imagine having to like kiss someone on
- 26:02Speaker 2: the first day that like you're working together.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But I mean they are professional. So I have one
- 26:07Speaker 1: more thing. Yes, I do not believe that Resa, who's
- 26:12Speaker 1: a badass retired military doesn't have the ability to have
- 26:20Speaker 1: a conversation with her husband about the fact that she's
- 26:23Speaker 1: nervous about the next steps, Like she goes to the extreme,
- 26:27Speaker 1: like I'm gonna move to literally and get an apartment
- 26:29Speaker 1: because I'm so afraid that my husband's gonna leave me
- 26:31Speaker 1: if we can't have a baby, instead of just saying
- 26:33Speaker 1: like I'm afraid you're gonna feel different about me if
- 26:38Speaker 1: we can't have a baby, like she'd rather run away
- 26:41Speaker 1: and get an apartment. I think she's tougher than that.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Hey, I mean, yeah, maybe those could just be hard.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Those are hard conversations, they.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Are, but I think she can handle it. Okay, what
- 26:54Speaker 1: did you rate this movie.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I thought this was a strong start.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I gave it four stars two point seventy five stars,
- 27:01Speaker 1: Oh look at you three point seventy five. Next week
- 27:04Speaker 1: we have a double header of Hallmark movies. We have
- 27:07Speaker 1: Mary Go Around m A R R Y and To
- 27:10Speaker 1: Her with Love, another Mahogany offering, so be sure to
- 27:13Speaker 1: come back for that. Remember to leave your ratings and
- 27:16Speaker 1: reviews we love five stars and hop on over to
- 27:20Speaker 1: our Facebook group, Girls Gone Hallmark. We would love to
