Latest / Ambitious Podcast / EP. 46: Achieving Your 2025 Goals: Vision Boards, Goal Setting, and the Power of Intentions
Transcript
- 0:08Hello and welcome back to Ambitious I Today I'm talking
- 0:12about something that I think is going to be truthfully the game
- 0:16changer for you this year when it comes to achieving the goals
- 0:19that you want to achieve, not only for your business, that can
- 0:22be one of the buckets, but also just in general for your life.
- 0:26Today we're talking about setting vision, setting
- 0:29intentions, setting goals and what that really looks like to
- 0:35do and have that be achieved successfully.
- 0:39And I think a lot of the time, you know, many of our lives have
- 0:42been centered around different goals.
- 0:43The goals might be to, you know, for some of us get into a
- 0:47certain school when we were younger.
- 0:48It could be to get married, to own a home one day, to have a
- 0:51certain type of career, to achieve something with our
- 0:54health or in the specific sports.
- 0:56There's so many different goals that we go for, but what really
- 1:00is the differentiator between the goals that we say we want
- 1:03and that we want to achieve versus those that actually come
- 1:06to fruition? And so for me, if you know me,
- 1:09you know that I am somebody who is who is not going to let
- 1:13something just happen just out of intention.
- 1:16But I want to really have a structure, a way to know how I
- 1:18can be successful at it. You know, I talk about
- 1:20frameworks non-stop on this podcast, and that's because they
- 1:25give us a road map. And So what I wanted to do today
- 1:28is I wanted to break down how can we take vision and the
- 1:32destination of where we want to go and how can we take the goals
- 1:35that we're going for in 2025 and really make sure that we have
- 1:38that road map, that we have that plan of how we're going to go
- 1:42and do that. And so before we dive in today,
- 1:44first, I want to say a massive thank you.
- 1:47If you are coming back to today's episode and you were
- 1:50listening last week and the week before, if you've been binging
- 1:53some of our other episodes, I want to say thank you so much
- 1:55for coming back and I'm excited to have you here.
- 1:57And also, if someone potentially has sent this to you or if this
- 2:01is your first time listening to Ambitious, I also want to
- 2:03welcome you to the family and we're beyond excited to have you
- 2:05here. This is a place where I want you
- 2:09to be able to grow into the version of yourself that you
- 2:13know you can become. And actually this week we
- 2:16announced on social media that we were starting a new series
- 2:19called the becoming. And this was because in 2024 was
- 2:23a very short story intro here. In 2024, I had a really hard
- 2:29year. It was definitely a year that
- 2:31tested me in almost every bucket, if I'm going to be
- 2:33honest. It tested me in friendships, in
- 2:35health, in business, in frankly everything.
- 2:40And so going into 2025, I feel like I was, you know, 10 times
- 2:45more invested in goals and vision than I ever have been
- 2:48before. And so the becoming was
- 2:50something that, you know, when I thought about all the things I'm
- 2:53going to teach you today and I started to map this out for
- 2:55myself, I realized I don't want to do this alone.
- 2:58I want to share this with other people.
- 2:59I want to help other people to also step into the version of
- 3:02themselves that they know that they could be in 2025 and to
- 3:05give them the tools that would help them to do that.
- 3:08And also the same tools that I myself am using and have used in
- 3:12past years for other goals that I've had.
- 3:14In today's episode, we are going to be covering a variety of
- 3:17different things. We're going to be covering
- 3:19vision and understanding of what is the difference between a
- 3:21vision versus a goal. We're going to be talking about
- 3:24vision boards and actually breaking down some of the
- 3:26science of why vision boards and creating vision boards are so
- 3:30effective for you and for your goals.
- 3:32We're going to be talking about the different 5 steps that
- 3:35you're going to want to follow to achieve any goal in any
- 3:38bucket of your life, whether financial, career,
- 3:41relationships, health, it doesn't matter.
- 3:43These are five steps that will lead you to success.
- 3:46And along the way, I'm also going to be sharing a couple of
- 3:49different stats that will help you to start to normalize what
- 3:54is the difference maker of things that we say we want to
- 3:56do, that we say we want to accomplish versus those we
- 3:59actually do. And I don't know if I would
- 4:01assume you're like me if you're here listening to this and you
- 4:05probably have had goals that you've set year after year.
- 4:07I can't tell you if I'm going to be honest, how many years I have
- 4:11set my goal to be like, this is the year that I'm going to get
- 4:13into the best shape. And to be transparent, it hasn't
- 4:17happened. It's a goal.
- 4:19There's some goals that I have that I crush and I knock them
- 4:21out every year. And there's other goals like
- 4:23getting healthy that have been something I have every single
- 4:26year struggled with. And So what I realized was when
- 4:31I started to go back through, why have I not achieved my
- 4:33goals? Now, the goals that I have
- 4:34achieved, why have those come to fruition?
- 4:37And I started to really chunk it down.
- 4:38It became very apparent there were parts of these steps that I
- 4:42was doing and certain goals that I achieved that I wasn't doing
- 4:45and those that I didn't achieve. And so today I'm going to break
- 4:49those downs that I can also help you to learn from some of those,
- 4:52you know, journeys that I had and some of those mistakes and
- 4:55also to teach you how I was able to be successful in the things
- 4:58that I have done. So I want to start off with, you
- 5:02know, vision versus goals because a lot of the time we
- 5:05hear these words kind of like thrown out, right?
- 5:07Here's the vision of what I want for my life and creating a
- 5:09vision board. I've got goal setting.
- 5:11We hear about SMART goals, right?
- 5:13Like we hear about all these things of like, what's your
- 5:15target, what's your goal, what's your vision?
- 5:17And I think it's really important that we understand the
- 5:20distinction between what it means to have an intention or a
- 5:23vision or a manifestation, if you will, for our life versus
- 5:27what it means to have a goal. A vision or an intention is
- 5:31something that you're setting out as your North Star.
- 5:36So really, this is something that you're setting as an
- 5:39intention. And the way I almost think about
- 5:42it is a set of bumper lanes, OK? So I almost want you to picture
- 5:46literally as how I think about it.
- 5:47I think about it like a path. And so there's an overall
- 5:50destination that I'm generally speaking, trying to get to.
- 5:54That's vision. It's getting the clarity of
- 5:57where is it that we're heading? Where do we want to go?
- 5:59What are we looking to achieve? And to describe that, and I find
- 6:03in general, vision is a little bit more in the creative, more
- 6:07emotional bucket. So vision is something that is
- 6:10not always going to feel tactical.
- 6:12It's not always going to feel like, you know, I have this
- 6:14vision for my life, but I don't have a plan of how I'm going to
- 6:15do it, right? So like for me, I have a vision
- 6:19of what my life's going to look like and what my home will look
- 6:22like and how many kids I'll have and, you know, being married and
- 6:25all of these things I see for my life how I'm going to do that,
- 6:30that is a totally different story because that is goals.
- 6:34Vision is the emotional tie to the intention of what it is we
- 6:38want to achieve. And so you want to ask yourself,
- 6:41what is your vision versus what is your goal?
- 6:44And how are you maybe potentially grouping all those
- 6:46together? And could that be a reason we're
- 6:48lacking clarity and lacking movement?
- 6:51So vision is really about setting the intention in the
- 6:53North Star, whereas goals are very much a matter of getting
- 6:57clarity of the tactics or the stepping stone.
- 7:00So it go back to that analogy of the pathway.
- 7:03The vision is the bumper lanes and that destination that's
- 7:05going to help you to get there. Whereas goals, those are
- 7:08literally the physical steps, right?
- 7:10The stones we're walking on that lead us to that North Star at
- 7:14the end. So goals and vision are not the
- 7:17same thing. And I do feel that it's because
- 7:20we often group them together that we usually lose when it
- 7:24comes to achieving because we're trying to play in the emotions
- 7:28of our heart at the same time that we're in our head thinking
- 7:32the logistics of how we're going to get there.
- 7:34So no wonder we're having a difficulty trying to make a road
- 7:38map or a plan for ourselves. So we want you to separate them
- 7:41instead. So vision, the destination or
- 7:44North Star goals, the stepping stones, that's going to help to
- 7:47build that pathway in that walkway to letting you get
- 7:50there. OK, so one of the things that
- 7:55was a little different this year going into 2025 that I haven't
- 7:59taken as seriously in the past years was a vision board.
- 8:03And as I say this, I know that your mind is gonna be like Kate,
- 8:08you mean to tell me that I'm gonna get a Bristol board and
- 8:11some magazines and that's gonna be the difference of how I
- 8:13achieve my goals this year. Yeah, Right.
- 8:15And I'm right there with you because I was not somebody who
- 8:21was super into making vision boards.
- 8:23Like it wasn't like I was like nerding out on doing this and
- 8:26it's like jazz and excited about it.
- 8:29I just was like, OK, if I need to make a vision board, why do
- 8:32we need to make it like, show me the reason?
- 8:33Show me the why. And so I literally started as my
- 8:38nerd brain does, and I started to research vision boards.
- 8:40And I was like, what's this all about?
- 8:42And I listened to a podcast that happened to talk about vision
- 8:44boards. And I was like, oh, my goodness,
- 8:47I'm doing a vision board. So I went to the store, I got
- 8:50all the stuff, and I did the vision board.
- 8:51And I want to share some of the things that I learned about
- 8:54vision boards and specifically why I'm recommending you to do 1
- 8:57and how already just in a few weeks of 2025, I already feel a
- 9:03shift in the way that my mindset and perspective has been around
- 9:07my goals. And I truly believe it's based
- 9:09off of what I'm going to share with you.
- 9:12So one of the reasons why vision boards are really effective is
- 9:15because of our Ras system, which is basically reticular
- 9:18activating system. And so this is how do we think
- 9:22about your brain. And we've talked about this.
- 9:24If you want to go to really understand this in depth, I
- 9:27recommend going to TJ Fry's episode.
- 9:30It's a guest episode and he is a absolute master at the
- 9:33subconscious mind and he talks about this at length.
- 9:36But the reticulate activating system is really the filter
- 9:40through which your brain filters information.
- 9:43And so in an average 2nd, and yes, I said second, our brain is
- 9:49sorting through around 11,000,000 bits of information.
- 9:54Of that 11,000,000 bits of information per second, you're
- 9:57only consciously aware of 40 to 50 bits per second.
- 10:00OK, so I wanted to show you we go from a million per second to
- 10:0540 to 50 bits that you actually become consciously aware of.
- 10:09And so the thing that we want to look at and why this is
- 10:13significant when it comes to vision boards is that when you
- 10:17are creating a vision board, what you're ultimately doing is
- 10:23that you're programming your reticular activating system to
- 10:27pick up on the information and put more attention on the bits
- 10:32that get through to be on the things that you want that you're
- 10:36going for in your life. And so if you're like, Kate,
- 10:39what the heck are you talking about reticular activating
- 10:42system? So I want to give you an
- 10:43example. Have you ever gone to look at
- 10:46something that you want to buy? So maybe you are thinking about
- 10:49buying a car. Maybe you're somebody who's
- 10:51eyeing a specific trip somewhere and you feel like everyone ends
- 10:55up going to that destination all of a sudden.
- 10:56Or you see that car everywhere on the street, or you're looking
- 11:00at a specific something that you want to invest in and before you
- 11:03know it, you're seeing it everywhere.
- 11:05That's not a fluke. That is literally your brain
- 11:10rewiring and resorting re filtering, if you will, to show
- 11:14you the bits of information that you have prioritized to
- 11:18determine are valuable. And so TJ Fry talks a lot about
- 11:23this in his episode, much, much more in depth.
- 11:25So if you want to learn a lot about that, I highly recommend
- 11:27going to that episode. But the reason this is important
- 11:30is because when we create a vision board, what's happening
- 11:33is our filter is going to start filtering differently.
- 11:38It's going to start letting things through and allowing our
- 11:41awareness to become consciously aware of the opportunities and
- 11:44the resources around us that have always been there.
- 11:47Just like that car, it's always been there, but our brain will
- 11:51start to sort our environment and our reality to bring that to
- 11:54the forefront so we become consciously aware of it.
- 11:57And so when we create a vision board, what we're doing is we're
- 12:01setting an intention of what do I want to have come through my
- 12:03filter? What do I want to have presented
- 12:06to my conscious awareness everyday?
- 12:08What kind of resources, what kind of awareness do I want to
- 12:11have come forward as a result of my goals versus what might be
- 12:16coming through right now. And so your brain is literally
- 12:21designed, It is created with the intention to focus in on
- 12:28opportunities, people, and resources that help you to
- 12:32achieve the things that you want, that you have determined
- 12:35in your mind are valuable. So in summary, your brain will
- 12:42take the things that you've determined are valuable and
- 12:45meaningful to you, and it will sort the environment based off
- 12:49of whatever that thing is. So for example, should you
- 12:53decide that a red Jeep is something that you find
- 12:57meaningful to you or you're considering buying, you're going
- 13:00to start to see not only a lot of Jeeps everywhere, but you
- 13:02might even see more red Jeep specifically than you ever have
- 13:05before. And So what we want to look at
- 13:09is, well, why? Why is this going to help me
- 13:12achieve my goal, right? So yes, I've got more
- 13:14opportunities being brought to me.
- 13:15Well, how is that going to impact me?
- 13:17There was a study that was done and it actually showed that
- 13:20mental imagery on something like a vision board and visualizing
- 13:24your success can increase goal based behavior by 80%.
- 13:31This was like a study done in 2009 in Chicago, and it
- 13:33literally showed that if you have mental imagery of your
- 13:38goals in your surrounding environment and you can
- 13:42visualize what it means to achieve those in your
- 13:45environment, that you have the ability to increase your
- 13:50behavior around your goals by 80%.
- 13:54Can we just take a second 80 percent, 80%?
- 14:00If you hear nothing else I say today, that's the reason to go
- 14:03pick up some magazines, a Bristol board and some glue.
- 14:06OK? So like, This is why when I
- 14:08drove into this, I'm like, oh, OK, to the store we go because I
- 14:12didn't want this to just be something that I was doing that
- 14:15was just going to sit in the side of my office.
- 14:18I was like, is this really going to help me?
- 14:20And as soon as I saw that, I was like, oh, OK, here we go.
- 14:25The other thing that I found was interesting as well was how our,
- 14:27our vision boards are actually creating and reinforcing what we
- 14:32want in our lives. And so basically when you have a
- 14:37vision board, you are programming your goals in your
- 14:42environment every single day. So with this, the affirmations
- 14:47you have around your goals, the positive reinforcement of your
- 14:50goals in your environment, implanting those in your
- 14:53environment increases what they call self efficacy.
- 14:57And basically studies found that people who have high senses of
- 15:01self efficacy are more likely to persist through challenges and
- 15:04stay motivated through their goals.
- 15:07So self efficacy, for anyone who's not familiar with this, is
- 15:11basically the belief that you can accomplish and achieve the
- 15:14things that you desire to do. So let's simplify this even
- 15:18more. If you have a vision board,
- 15:21you're increasing self efficacy. If you increase self efficacy,
- 15:25it means you're increasing your belief in your ability to
- 15:30achieve the things that you want to do.
- 15:33And by doing that, studies have shown that it is those
- 15:37individuals who are more likely to persist through challenges
- 15:41and stay motivated. So just by having your goals in
- 15:47your environment, you're going to increase your belief system
- 15:51that you can do it. And as a result, when you're
- 15:53faced with a resistance along the path which you and I both
- 15:56know is going to happen, you're more likely to persist through
- 16:01those challenges and persist through those resistances
- 16:04because you have that belief. But that belief got there
- 16:08because of the vision board. The vision board and planting
- 16:12those positive affirmations in your environment is what created
- 16:16the self efficacy. So vision boards reinforce the
- 16:20belief of what you're capable of achieving.
- 16:24They are the constant daily reminder of what you have the
- 16:29potential and the ability to achieve.
- 16:32OK, so I'm sure by this point you're starting to pick up and
- 16:36why I was like, OK, vision boards, here we go.
- 16:38Because this was something that blew my mind about literally how
- 16:42it changes our behavior, how it changes our psychology, how it
- 16:46changes our brain and to changing our brain.
- 16:49This was the last one that put me over the edge as in like I
- 16:53couldn't get to the store fast enough.
- 16:55Neuroplasticity and this I'm not going to get into the nuts and
- 16:58bolts of all the science side of it.
- 16:59I want to talk about the impact of it and the basics of it being
- 17:04that visualization, such as seeing your goals on a vision
- 17:08board, can actually rewire the brain and strengthen behaviors
- 17:12and habits that support achieving that goal.
- 17:14IE to simplify, the more that you have the ability to see and
- 17:20tune into the vision and the goals that you have.
- 17:23Neuroplasticity is basically the process of your brain changing
- 17:27the way that it's wired because of that to tune into your goals.
- 17:33Is this not mind blowing? Like when I dove into this, I
- 17:37had no words. You mean to tell me that when I
- 17:41dive into my goals and my vision, my brain is literally
- 17:43going to rewire itself? The more reps I put in, the
- 17:46deeper and deeper wiring I'm going to be creating in my brain
- 17:49to help me to achieve those things.
- 17:52Like it's just such a no brainer.
- 17:54It's such a no brainer. And so again, we go back to it's
- 17:58sorting your environment, it's deepening the belief that you
- 18:01have, which helps you to have a higher level of belief when
- 18:04challenges occur. And it's literally changing the
- 18:07wiring of your brain. And so here's what I did.
- 18:13I heard all of this. I read about this and I was
- 18:16like, OK, so I went to the store and I went to an area where they
- 18:20had a big rack of magazines and I just pulled anything that
- 18:23spoke to me and I didn't judge it.
- 18:25This is the most important thing for all of you analytical,
- 18:27logistical ladies. And you know who you are, you
- 18:32may go in and say, well, I don't know if there's something in
- 18:34that magazine for me or I don't know if that if, if I desire,
- 18:37you know, home and garden, what's that going to be about?
- 18:39Maybe I don't want anything there.
- 18:41Try not to think about it as a plan.
- 18:45We're just allowing. We're just going to be, we're
- 18:48going to allow the emotions to come up as they need to.
- 18:51And So what I did is I went into a store.
- 18:53I looked at the rack and I just picked out any magazine that
- 18:56spoke to me, could be a cover, skimmed through a couple of
- 18:59them. I just picked out probably about
- 19:01six different magazines. And I got these magazines, I got
- 19:05some glue, got some scissors, and I got a big Bristol board.
- 19:09And I also, as a side note, would recommend getting a bigger
- 19:12Bristol board than you think because you're going to fill it
- 19:14up quicker than quicker than you really probably imagine.
- 19:17And so I went home and I really decided to make a night of it.
- 19:21OK, So I sat down, I poured myself a glass of wine, I put on
- 19:26some music in the background and I got these magazines out and I
- 19:30set the intention and I just sat back for a second.
- 19:33And I remember saying like, this is the year that it's just going
- 19:35to be different. And it's just a decision you
- 19:39make. You just decide that I'm, I'm
- 19:41not doing this anymore. I'm not talking about my goals
- 19:43anymore and allowing them every year just pass me by.
- 19:45Like this is this is the year. This is my year, this is my year
- 19:50and we're making it happen. This is the first step.
- 19:54So I gave myself that permission that I was done with the beliefs
- 19:59that, you know, last year was bleeding into this year.
- 20:02No, this is a new fresh slate. This is a new opportunity for me
- 20:07to set intention and I'm done with the stories of what I used
- 20:10to tell myself. I am done with all the history
- 20:14of, but it's always been this and it's always been that great.
- 20:16That's how it was, but not how it's necessarily going to be.
- 20:21And so I just decided in that moment that before I ever cut
- 20:23out anything, that each thing that I was going to cut out of
- 20:26that magazine was me choosing a different reality.
- 20:30And it meant that I had to Createspace.
- 20:32I had to realize that I wasn't going to be carrying the
- 20:34previous baggage with the new things.
- 20:36I had to try to set the intention that this was a fresh
- 20:38slate. And so I opened up those
- 20:40magazines. I, I first started by just
- 20:42cutting out a bunch of things. There was no, you know, I'm
- 20:44going to use it. I'm not going to use it.
- 20:46I just literally went through and for no rhyme or reason, I'm
- 20:49just picking out images that speak to me.
- 20:51And your brain is going to go somewhere very specific, which
- 20:56is that it's going to say, well, like, well, can we achieve that?
- 20:59Is that realistic? Is that probably going to happen
- 21:01this year? And I was like, thank you,
- 21:02brain. We're not worried about the plan
- 21:05right now. We're worried about setting the
- 21:07intention. You're just going in with what
- 21:10speaks to you. And so I went in and I clipped
- 21:13up a bunch of images and I put them in a big pile on the table.
- 21:16And then once I felt like I kind of pulled through all the images
- 21:18that made sense to me and that felt like they hit home for me.
- 21:22I put the magazines away. And so I spread all those images
- 21:25on the table. And I'd say I probably used
- 21:27about 60% of them. And there was some that by the
- 21:30time that I came back to them, I didn't feel like they hit home
- 21:32for me anymore. And I think there's a big factor
- 21:35here, which is only to use things that have an emotional
- 21:37activation in you, because this is meant to be, as we talked
- 21:41about the earlier part, right? Vision is emotion.
- 21:43Goals are tactical and strategic.
- 21:46This is meant to be emotional. This is not meant to be the plan
- 21:49of how you're going to do all these things.
- 21:50It's meant to be something that you're doing to be emotional and
- 21:54to be connected to what your vision is and to emotionally
- 21:58connect with where you want to go.
- 21:59And so I, I laid them all out on this Bristol board and I started
- 22:04to glue them down and I started to see it come to life.
- 22:08And as I was going through, there was some that I wanted to
- 22:10leave or something I wanted to keep.
- 22:12And when I saw it at the end, you know, to be honest, it made
- 22:17me emotional because I've never had more faith in the fact that
- 22:24it could happen and the fact that it would happen.
- 22:29I know that it's all in process already in some way, shape or
- 22:34form. And my heart was so clear on
- 22:37what I wanted. And you know, my, my vision
- 22:41board had things like travel on it.
- 22:44It had, you know, the desire to be a mom.
- 22:46I really desire to be a mom one day.
- 22:48And I low key want to have like a small baseball team.
- 22:51I had, you know, having a really connected family and having an
- 22:56incredible supportive partner and getting married one day.
- 23:00I had, you know, growing and, and resilience and expansion
- 23:04around business on there. I had Forbes on there.
- 23:08I had so many different buckets of my life on this vision board,
- 23:11but it was an all-encompassing of like a snapshot of what I
- 23:15value and I'm like, there it is. There's my life and you know,
- 23:19it's changed over the years and it's something I will be doing
- 23:22consistently every year now that I've done it because I realize
- 23:25how much, if I think back to my old vision boards, it used to be
- 23:29these big mansions and fancy cars and all of these things.
- 23:32And maybe for you, that's what your vision is and there's
- 23:35nothing wrong with that. But for me, what I've realized
- 23:37was my visions changed. And if I don't acknowledge the
- 23:43new vision and plant that new vision in my mind, I might be
- 23:46operating off of an old iOS system, OK, Like we might be
- 23:50operating off of an old vision, which is why some of the things
- 23:53are feeling difficult. And so getting this new
- 23:56intention and getting this new clarity made me feel so insanely
- 23:59motivated. And I was sharing with the girls
- 24:02in the becoming group that we started on Instagram, which by
- 24:04the way is free. So if you just message me the
- 24:06word becoming, we can add you. And it's literally, I think at
- 24:09this point we're like at 80 something or 90 something girls
- 24:12in there. And it's just all girls working
- 24:15toward their goals. And it's just, it's incredible
- 24:18supportive community of women who are going for goals in every
- 24:20bucket. Some are looking to date and
- 24:23find the love of their life. Some are looking to, you know,
- 24:25take their health next level. Some of it's careers, some of
- 24:27it's mental health. It's just amazing, supportive
- 24:30women helping women community, No commitment, no expectations,
- 24:33just a free community to support you that we're doing
- 24:35specifically for the year of 2025.
- 24:37S anytime you're listening to this in 2025, you're absolutely
- 24:40free to join. And so I did this vision board
- 24:42and you know, I, I now have this in my bathroom.
- 24:45And that's the thing that I also want to say the vision board is
- 24:48not meant to be something that you do when you stick in a
- 24:50random closet, OK? The vision board is something
- 24:54that you need to have in your environment.
- 24:56You need to have it around you so that it can do and work the
- 24:59magic that we just talked about of the science of why it works.
- 25:03But it needs to be in your environment.
- 25:04It needs to be something you're actively consuming day in, day
- 25:07out in order for you to have the benefits and the outcomes that
- 25:10are possible with it. And so, you know, we've gone
- 25:13over a little bit of vision boards, right?
- 25:15We've talked about why they're impactful.
- 25:17We've talked about the different science of why they work and the
- 25:20impact truthfully that it has on you being able to achieve the
- 25:23goals that you want to do. But then comes, as we talked
- 25:27about earlier, the difference between vision and goals.
- 25:30And so goals are very different because goals are more a matter
- 25:34of the actual way in which we achieve an outcome.
- 25:36So again, intention and vision is the emotional, you know,
- 25:40North Star, if you will, of what we want to try to do.
- 25:44And then goals are the way in which we're going to help
- 25:46ourselves to act in accordance with doing it.
- 25:49One of the things you'll often hear in the manifestation space
- 25:52is that it's one thing to set an intention.
- 25:53It's one thing to manifest what you want for your life, but you
- 25:56can't manifest having like the body of your dreams and then sit
- 26:00on the couch and never move. You can't manifest having this
- 26:04big, big business where you just want to, you know, make tons of
- 26:07money in your business, have massive impact in your business
- 26:09and be a micro celebrity. But you never leave your house
- 26:12and you don't connect with anybody and you don't show up
- 26:14and you're not doing any of the things that are needle movers.
- 26:17So the thing we know with any goal is that there's one thing
- 26:20to have in North Star. There's another thing to act in
- 26:22accordance with that goal that you want to achieve or the
- 26:25vision you want to achieve. And so that brings me to goals,
- 26:28which is the five steps I'm going to be walking through with
- 26:30you of how basically you can achieve any goal at any time.
- 26:36One thing that I want to note before we dive into the steps is
- 26:39that if I have learned anything about the goals that I've
- 26:44achieved, it's the fact that you really kind of have to fake it
- 26:49till you make it. And what I mean by fake it till
- 26:54you make it is not necessarily you have to be fake, but to this
- 26:58extent that you have to do before you are in order to be
- 27:05the person you want to be. You have to act in accordance
- 27:08with that person before you become her.
- 27:11And I think the thing that I see time and time again with a lot
- 27:15of people that I help and that I support and that I work with is
- 27:18that they often times have this belief that they're like, oh,
- 27:21but I'm not there yet. So like once I get there, then
- 27:24I'll do that. You don't start working out once
- 27:26you have the ABS, you start working out and along the way
- 27:29you get the ABS and then you become the person who works out
- 27:31and you maintain those, right? So same thing with business.
- 27:35Like I didn't become a 7 figure business owner as a byproduct of
- 27:41just like, oh, once I get there, I'll change what I want to do
- 27:44and who I'm going to be. I started to be like, OK, like
- 27:46how does that person operate? How does that person go about
- 27:49their day? How does that person deal with
- 27:52challenges? What do they do with their
- 27:53mindset? How do they navigate their life?
- 27:56And it was only once I started to act in accordance with the
- 27:59version of myself that I wanted to become that I actually became
- 28:02that person and I started to achieve those goals.
- 28:05And so, you know, I often talk to clients and, and even friends
- 28:09and peers. And, you know, the constant
- 28:11quote that I say is show me what you're doing today and I'll show
- 28:15you where where you'll be this year.
- 28:18Show me what you're doing today and the actions you're taking,
- 28:22and I will show you who you'll be this year.
- 28:25And that is because the easiest evidence that we need to
- 28:31determine where we're going to end up is who we are and what
- 28:34we're doing and the actions we're taking day in and day out.
- 28:38And so the thing I will assure you of is you're going to have
- 28:41to do the actions before you ever become the thing.
- 28:46You're going to have to go to the gym and hate every second of
- 28:49it. And I'm right there with you
- 28:49right now. You're going to have to go to
- 28:51the gym and hate every second of it before you become that fits
- 28:54Bo that you want to become. You're going to have to, you
- 28:57know, go and put in the grind at school.
- 29:00For example, if you're somebody who wants to have that specific
- 29:03career that you need a education for, you're the person who's
- 29:07going to have to put in the reps.
- 29:08If you're somebody who wants to be that 7 figure business owner,
- 29:11it doesn't matter what it is you're going to have to do
- 29:16before you become. And so it's not a matter of be,
- 29:22do, have, it's a matter of do, have, be.
- 29:28And so it's really looking at, well, OK, how do we do that?
- 29:32What are the steps that we take to achieve that?
- 29:34And So what I am breaking down today is I'm breaking down the
- 29:39five steps to achieving any goal.
- 29:42And these five steps are going to be everything that you need
- 29:46as your road map to achieve really any goal that you have
- 29:48for yourself in 2025, regardless of the bucket that it's in.
- 29:51Step one is to actually be clear on what is your why around your
- 29:56goal and the amount of superficial surface level.
- 30:00Why is that? I hear, you know, when someone
- 30:02comes to me in business and they say like, hey, I want to be
- 30:04$1,000,000 business. I'm like, great, why $1,000,000
- 30:07is a surface level number. That is not why you want
- 30:10$1,000,000. You want it because of something
- 30:12much deeper inside. Could it be because of, you
- 30:15know, fame and being acknowledged?
- 30:17Could it be because of, you know, wanting to have more
- 30:20impact? Could it be the fact that, like,
- 30:21I really see myself like being an author and being like this,
- 30:24like mass celebrity, Like, what is that thing?
- 30:27But there's something deeper than just the surface level of
- 30:29like, oh, I want to hit X amount of money, right?
- 30:32So having a deeper Y is really, really important.
- 30:35And I actually was pulling up a stat on this.
- 30:38Research has found that goals that are tied to intrinsic
- 30:41motivation, IE having more emotionally meaningful goals,
- 30:45had a 55% higher chance of being achieved.
- 30:49That was a study that was done in 2000 and a 55% higher chance.
- 30:56Let's just take a second. OK.
- 30:57So when you have an actual why that is emotionally motivated
- 31:01around a goal that you have and you tap into what that is, you
- 31:05are 55% more likely to achieve the goal that you're stating
- 31:1355%. It's a lot.
- 31:18And so I want you to ask yourself literally why.
- 31:22Why do you want to achieve the thing that you want to achieve?
- 31:26So for me, when I think about, for example, I'll just share
- 31:29some of mine. When I think about the kind of
- 31:32financial revenue that I want to make in the business, it's been
- 31:35something I've been toying with because I don't need more money
- 31:42like I don't like. I have a very, I'm very happy
- 31:45and fulfilled with my life and more resources to me are not
- 31:51really necessary for my life to drastically change.
- 31:57Like I don't need my life to change from where it is.
- 31:59I'm very happy with my life, but the thing that I am actually
- 32:05motivated by when it comes to money is the fact that if I want
- 32:09to have the life I want, when I have children, there's a certain
- 32:14life that I want to have. I want to be able to have them
- 32:18be able to go on trips and not be worried about anything
- 32:21financially. I want to be able to have
- 32:24somebody who helps me at the house because I, as I said, I
- 32:27want to have a small baseball team.
- 32:28I want to have somebody who can help me at the house so that I
- 32:30can, you know, maybe not always be running ragged all the time
- 32:35trying to get everything done between, you know, laundry and
- 32:38cleaning and and being a parent and, and parenting your kids and
- 32:42then also working and then being a partner.
- 32:44Like I just I definitely want to have the ability to have help.
- 32:48I for my business, want to dial it in in such a specific way
- 32:51that like I want to be structured around my kids
- 32:53schedule. I want to literally drop them
- 32:55off at school every morning and I want to pick them up every day
- 32:57after school. And that is my dream business so
- 33:01that my kids, I have a present mom like that's what I desire as
- 33:06like my main goal and intention for my business and for my life.
- 33:10That's my why. It's not about funnel, it's not
- 33:13about followers. It's not about any of that
- 33:15stuff. It's about the fact that the
- 33:18business I create and the resources that I can use and and
- 33:21develop right now are the things that are going to allow me to
- 33:24have that life. And so that's my why.
- 33:28And so when we think about hitting a certain number, it
- 33:31should be about, well, why do you want that number?
- 33:33If you want to have a, a book, why do you want to have a book
- 33:37when you are like, I want to have a top performing podcast?
- 33:39Why do you want have a top performing podcast?
- 33:41Why do you want what you want? Why do you really want it in
- 33:47your heart? And you know, this is not
- 33:50something that we necessarily have to peel back.
- 33:52If you say you want $1,000,000, my first question will be, well,
- 33:55what are you going to spend the $1,000,000 on?
- 33:57That's your why, right? OK, well is the why?
- 34:01Because, you know, I want to buy a fancy car or maybe for some of
- 34:04the people that I talked to, it's because they want to buy a
- 34:08home for their parents and to retire their parents.
- 34:11And now their parents are their actual why?
- 34:13OK, great, we're getting somewhere, but the money is not
- 34:15the thing. And just like, for example, you
- 34:18know, another bucket might be health.
- 34:20If you're like, I want to get healthy.
- 34:21Well, why do you want to get healthy?
- 34:22You want to get healthy because OK, well, I want to have ABS.
- 34:26Well, why do you want to have ABS?
- 34:27Like let's peel it back. Is it really about that?
- 34:30Or is it about the fact that you want to be able to look back and
- 34:33really be proud of yourself and knowing that you pushed yourself
- 34:36to get uncomfortable and to challenge yourself for growth,
- 34:40that you don't want to settle in the way you take care of your
- 34:42health? Or maybe for some people, health
- 34:45is about the fact that has nothing to do with physique and
- 34:47has everything to do with just performance and function.
- 34:50Maybe it's about the fact that you want to be able to, you
- 34:53know, run around with your kids and be able to feel like you can
- 34:56go at their warp speed when they have all the energy going and
- 35:00they're an endless battery and that you can keep up with them.
- 35:03Like that's a real why. That's a deep why not just I
- 35:06want this thing because. And so I want to challenge you
- 35:08first to start with, what is the actual why behind your goal?
- 35:13What is your goal? And with this, what is the why
- 35:16around it? Why do you even want to achieve
- 35:17that? And you have to have that
- 35:19because if you don't, as I said earlier, 55%, if you do so do
- 35:24you really want to be the other half, right?
- 35:29Do you want to be the other 45% of people who are not likely to
- 35:33achieve their goal because they haven't really connected it to
- 35:35any deeper? Why?
- 35:38So Step 2 is to define success and define the outcome.
- 35:42This is something we talk about all the time in business.
- 35:46And in business we often discuss like, let's just say you have a
- 35:51marketing goal. One of the first things that I'm
- 35:55going to have you do is say define the outcome.
- 35:57So if you're like, I really want to get better at marketing, OK,
- 35:59well what is getting better at marketing look like?
- 36:01Or if I want to get healthy, what is getting healthy look
- 36:03like? Like what does it mean for you
- 36:06to have achieved it? So like for me with this
- 36:08podcast, like when I wanted to create a podcast and that was my
- 36:11intention, the why around it for me was the fact that I wanted to
- 36:15have an opportunity to get really personal and just be raw
- 36:18and unfiltered with the people who were looking for support and
- 36:22looking for help. And that I also wanted to have
- 36:25the ability to impact and connect with more women.
- 36:28And so to find success, to find success was getting a podcast up
- 36:32and having episodes that someone could listen to.
- 36:34That meant that I had a podcast, right?
- 36:36I was like, I got to be on YouTube, I got to be on audio, I
- 36:39got to be on wherever somebody can listen or watch me.
- 36:42And that means that boom, I've got a podcast.
- 36:45And so you have to define what is success, which basically
- 36:48means what does it mean when you have achieved it?
- 36:51Give me a picture and paint me a picture of what that looks like
- 36:54and as much detail as you possibly can.
- 36:56And so, you know, maybe if you're like, I really want to
- 36:59become a mom this year, well, great.
- 37:00Then success is you're holding a baby of any kind, of any kind.
- 37:05It can be yours. You could adopt whatever it
- 37:07might be, but it could just be like, I want to have a baby
- 37:11that's mine in my arms. OK, great.
- 37:13That's defining success. So I want you in Step 2 to
- 37:17define what if you were to achieve it.
- 37:21Does that look like? And I think a lot of the time,
- 37:25because we're so vague with the way that we approach goals, we
- 37:30don't really know for making progress toward it because
- 37:32frankly, we don't have a pinned destination of where we've been
- 37:34looking to go. We don't even necessarily know
- 37:36if we've achieved it because we never defined what achieving
- 37:39meant. And so we have to know when
- 37:41we've achieved it. How do we know we're there?
- 37:43And give it as much color as you possibly can.
- 37:45So Step 3 is going to be getting a plan and most importantly,
- 37:51having a backup plan. So a plan in the sense of a road
- 37:56map of how are you going to do it?
- 38:00And if I hear one more person who says like, oh, well, I don't
- 38:05know how to do that. I don't know.
- 38:06Like I have his gold. Like, I have no idea where to
- 38:08start. I wonder where we could look.
- 38:13Hi, Internet. Hello, ChatGPT.
- 38:16Hello YouTube. Hello.
- 38:18Possibly if it's still around, TikTok.
- 38:20Hello, Instagram. Like there's so much information
- 38:22on the Internet that is readily available to you.
- 38:24Go to the bookstore, listen to a podcast.
- 38:27There are so many resources and information that you can go to
- 38:32of other people who've done what you want to do.
- 38:34And so even for me, I will be really honest with you recently,
- 38:37if you watch our podcast episodes, you'll notice that my
- 38:40lighting has changed for the podcast.
- 38:42And this is because my podcast original plan that I had of my
- 38:47goal, my plan was not a fancy plan.
- 38:51It was a get it done plan, right?
- 38:55So I had my wire on the podcast, as I said, and I had my defined
- 38:58success Get that episodes out. Then it came into having a plan
- 39:01and I was like, OK, I have to find a way to record it and film
- 39:05it and have lighting for it. And So what did I do?
- 39:09I went to YouTube and I said lighting for a podcast setup,
- 39:13studio set up for podcasts. And I literally watch YouTube
- 39:15videos after YouTube videos about lighting and cameras and
- 39:19which camera you're supposed to get.
- 39:21And there I found a video of an incredible woman who was like,
- 39:24here's my entire podcast studio. And it's like amazing.
- 39:27And So what did I do? I pressed add to cart.
- 39:29I went through her entire list and I pressed add to cart for
- 39:33her entire podcast setup. And I had that shipped to my
- 39:35house and it wasn't expensive at the time.
- 39:38It was really something that was, you know, the lights were
- 39:40probably, I would say like 30 bucks.
- 39:42Like they weren't anything crazy, come to find out, hence
- 39:45why my lighting setup now is different, 50 something episodes
- 39:49in. We have a different setup now,
- 39:52but that's because I wasn't looking to get fancy.
- 39:54I wanted to be functional. I'm like, I just got to get
- 39:57recording. I need to get some episodes out.
- 40:00And so my plan. Was to basically go research and
- 40:04look at what other people had done for their setups and go do
- 40:07that. Look at their blueprint.
- 40:09Great go. I went and I researched other
- 40:12people's podcasts and said, OK, will the title, like how much
- 40:15does SEO impact the title and how much it's discovered?
- 40:18And you know, what are the different things that people do
- 40:21to get people to subscribe to their show?
- 40:23Like I went and I looked at the people who already had the plan.
- 40:28The idea that you can't do something because you don't know
- 40:31how in this day and age is not an excuse.
- 40:35You could literally type in to ChatGPT for a health goal.
- 40:38Give me a couch to 5K plan that involves me going on walks three
- 40:44times a week or walking or running three times a week and
- 40:47has me running a 5K by X date from today.
- 40:50Boom. Click submit and it will send
- 40:52you a plan. There's no reason that we should
- 40:55be stuck on not having a plan when so many people have done
- 41:00the thing that we're looking to do.
- 41:02And this is the exciting part to me about business, about health,
- 41:05about anything. Like I genuinely think for me, I
- 41:10just don't really take no for an answer.
- 41:12One of my goals was like, it's hard for me to say out loud is I
- 41:17really want to run a 10K by the end of this year.
- 41:19Can I do that right now? Gosh, no, gosh, no, no, I can't
- 41:25run A10 Ki can barely run to the stop sign right now, right?
- 41:28Like I'm not going to run a 10K right now, but for me, I just
- 41:34built a plan. I literally have a training plan
- 41:38to go from couch to run a 10K by the end of the year.
- 41:41I've got 12 months to do it. There's no excuse if I stick to
- 41:46the plan. And so the plan was not like,
- 41:50well I've never run before. What did I do?
- 41:52I started searching what kind of shoes do I need for, for outdoor
- 41:55running? What kind of gear do I need?
- 41:58So over the holidays, what did I do?
- 42:00I went and I add to cart, add to cart, add to cart.
- 42:02And I think I got like a whole running setup of like coats and,
- 42:06and specific thermal this. And I don't even know what the
- 42:08heck I I have to be honest. All I know is it keeps me warm.
- 42:12And it was like 120 bucks for the entire thing.
- 42:15And so now I've got my little setup and I wear the same thing
- 42:17every day and I go on my, my 5K in the morning, my 5K at night.
- 42:22But like, these are not things that I knew.
- 42:25I went and I searched out a plan that somebody else had.
- 42:29So you need a plan, You need a plan of how you're going to do
- 42:34it. And with this, you also really
- 42:37want to make sure in that plan that you're not only looking at
- 42:40how have people done it, but how are you going to do it.
- 42:43And so for example, back to my goal, if my goal is to run 10K
- 42:46by the end of the year, I was like, well, first of all, I
- 42:48can't run 10K right now. So I work, you know, typically
- 42:5210 to 4:30 every single day right now.
- 42:55And so for myself, what I did is I said, OK, well, I'm going to
- 42:58walk 5K in the morning and I'm going to walk 5K at night.
- 43:01And that became my schedule that I set up for myself.
- 43:04And I do that every day of the entire week, 7, seven days a
- 43:08week. So I walk 70K in a week right
- 43:12now, which I know sounds crazy, but I'm loving it.
- 43:15I'm loving it and I'm, I'm feeling like, you know, whether
- 43:19the run portion has started yet or not, I'm feeling momentum
- 43:23because I'm realizing that I just have to give myself a plan
- 43:26and I can't get focused on that big thing 12 months from now.
- 43:29I got to focus on the 5K in the morning and then my next focus
- 43:32is 5K at night and I wake up again and I do it the next day.
- 43:36And I think that's where a lot of us get stuck because we're so
- 43:41focused on just the destination, the destination, the
- 43:44destination. We don't really focus on the
- 43:46plan itself. Like what is the plan of how
- 43:48we're going to do it? So if you're going to get fit,
- 43:50how many days a week are you going to work out?
- 43:52Where are you going to work out, right?
- 43:54So are you going to work out from home?
- 43:56Are you going to go to a gym? What days are you going to go to
- 43:58the gym? Are you going to go to a class?
- 44:00Are you going to pre book? The classes are going to do the
- 44:01last minute, right? Or if you're somebody, for
- 44:04example, podcast, I have this podcast and you know, I'm OK,
- 44:08great. I want this podcast to be
- 44:09successful and I want it to be something that's helpful for you
- 44:11and that you come back to every week.
- 44:13What's the plan? The plan is that I'm going to
- 44:16have twice a month where I batch out episodes that I'm going to
- 44:19research in between. I'm going to be listening and
- 44:20connecting with all of you who reach out to me and say, how can
- 44:23I help you and use those topics to be the base of how we create
- 44:26our topics. Like I had a plan of the things
- 44:30that I was going to do to have a successful podcast.
- 44:34It doesn't just happen. It's because I created a plan.
- 44:37So ultimately Step 3 is you have to have a plan and most
- 44:40importantly, you have to have a back up plan, which I want to
- 44:44explain. I learnt from one of my past
- 44:47mentors, George Bryant, and he has this model which is called
- 44:51the floor in the ceiling. And if you want to learn more
- 44:54about it, just shoot him message.
- 44:55His name is it's George Bryant on Instagram and you'll find him
- 44:58there. He taught me this model which
- 45:02was about floor and ceilings. And basically it means the floor
- 45:07is the non negotiable minimum that you will do in a day.
- 45:12So like non negotiable, I got to do blank, right?
- 45:17And then you've got your ceiling, which is the desired
- 45:20perfect. I want to achieve this.
- 45:22I have to do like this is the ultimate thing that I would want
- 45:25to do goal. So floor is the base of what you
- 45:28want to achieve. Non negotiable ceiling is the
- 45:32ideal thing you'd love to achieve if you possibly could.
- 45:36And his rule was that he taught. His rule was the floor has to be
- 45:42something that you're able to do on your worst day.
- 45:46OK, so when everything's going wrong and you've never felt more
- 45:49overwhelmed or never felt more defeated, what is that thing
- 45:53that you can do on your worst day?
- 45:56And that's your floor. And when you're thriving and
- 45:59you're killing it and you're full of energy and you're just
- 46:02really vibrant towards your goals, that's your ceiling.
- 46:07When you're feeling top notch and you're crushing it, what is
- 46:10the ultimate you'd love to achieve in a day?
- 46:13And so you've got your floor, which is the bare minimum, and
- 46:15you've got your ceiling, which is the ultimate.
- 46:18And So what I did is for anything that I want to achieve,
- 46:22I look at creating my floor and I look at creating my ceiling.
- 46:29I look to really give myself that spectrum and his unpacking
- 46:34of this, and the reason that this is all created is because
- 46:37he talks about the fact that so many people plan for their goals
- 46:42assuming they're always going to feel how they feel on their best
- 46:45day. You have to plan your goals and
- 46:49have a plan for the days that you're on the worst day ever and
- 46:52still be able to achieve them. Why?
- 46:54Because if we only have a plan to achieve our goals on the best
- 46:58days, we're only really achieving our goals for a
- 47:01portion of the year. Because all of us have those
- 47:03days where we don't want to get out of bed, where we end up
- 47:06getting the flu and we're sick. What is that bare minimum?
- 47:10And then what is the ideal that you ultimately want or desire to
- 47:13achieve? And so when we're looking at
- 47:16this spectrum, he calls it the floor and ceiling model.
- 47:19So as I said, if you want to learn more about it, I
- 47:21definitely would recommend reaching out to him.
- 47:23I believe he has a training on it actually, where he can kind
- 47:26of dive a little bit deeper into it for you.
- 47:28But what I do for my plan is I research, I listen to other
- 47:32people who've done it before me. I get the resources that I need
- 47:34to in my corner and I make a plan for not only what I want to
- 47:38do when I'm killing it, but also my bare minimum, my floor when
- 47:42it comes to my goal. So example, let's just say you
- 47:44want to get healthy and say your, you know, goal is
- 47:47movement. Maybe your ideal is you want to
- 47:49go to the gym everyday, but your floor is that you go for a 20
- 47:52minute walk, non negotiable if you can't go to the gym, right?
- 47:56So that gives you something that you have a spectrum depending on
- 47:59your level of energy or mental effort you have to give toward
- 48:03it. Now, Step 4, which is the most
- 48:08important, is managing and measuring your inputs.
- 48:13And as I said earlier, I think the biggest disconnect that so
- 48:16many people have when it comes to their goals is that they're
- 48:19so focused on when they get there, when they get there, when
- 48:22they get there, that they're not focusing on where you are, what
- 48:26you're doing today. And so one of the shifts that
- 48:30I've felt around my goals and those that have been achieved is
- 48:35the things that I achieved were based off of me focusing on the
- 48:40inputs that I was putting in, not on the end outcome or the
- 48:44destination. And it changed everything
- 48:47because it really is a matter of the compound effect of those
- 48:51inputs that ultimately has you achieving the goals that you
- 48:54want. And so it's not about, you know,
- 48:58when I get here, when I achieve X, that destination, for some
- 49:01people, it might be 3 months away, it might be 6 months away,
- 49:06it might be two years away, right?
- 49:09Like let's just say you're somebody who I don't know, wants
- 49:13to lose 100 lbs. There's different timelines of
- 49:16when you can do that. Let's just say you want to do
- 49:18that in a year, you want to do it in two years.
- 49:21That's a far out destination. And so we can't just be focused
- 49:26on the destination, but we have to be focused on, well, what am
- 49:28I going to do about it today? And literally every day deciding
- 49:34how you're going to act in accordance with that.
- 49:36And so for me, as I said, my 10K is at the end of the year, but
- 49:41all I can do today is go for the 5K and focus on realizing that
- 49:45the 5K in the morning and the 5K in the evening are the
- 49:47differentiator of what is ultimately going to help me to
- 49:51be able to do that at the end of the year.
- 49:53But I can't focus on the 10K. That's way far out from me.
- 49:56What I have to focus on are my inputs.
- 49:58I'm focused on my sleep, I'm focused on my nutrition.
- 50:01I'm focused on my overall like recovery of my body.
- 50:05And I'm really focus on following and sticking to the
- 50:08inputs. What are the things that I can
- 50:10measure? I can measure, you know, and
- 50:12focus on the things that I'm eating and how I'm filling my
- 50:15body with nutrient dense food. I can focus on the distance that
- 50:18I'm doing. I can focus on the hours and the
- 50:20amount of sleep I'm getting. Those are things that I can
- 50:22actually give myself as a focus every single day.
- 50:26So I'm going to ask yourself, what are your inputs?
- 50:29What are the things that you're going to deposit in the bank
- 50:32every day toward that goal that by the end of the year will give
- 50:35you the funds you need to, to claim it, to buy it, to get it?
- 50:39What are the inputs? Those are the things that day
- 50:42in, day out are going to move the needle for you to achieve
- 50:44that thing that you want. It's not just sitting in what
- 50:48you want, but doing the actions that align with the things you
- 50:53want to achieve. Again, remembering our quote,
- 50:55show me what you're doing today and I'll show you who you'll be
- 50:58this year, maybe even today as you listen to this.
- 51:01Have you acted in accordance with your goals?
- 51:05Have you put in the inputs and put in the reps for the things
- 51:09that are going to move the needle to eventually get you
- 51:12where you want to go? And here's something I want to
- 51:15say. The reason I say backup plan and
- 51:17that you have to think about not only your best day, but also the
- 51:20worst day. They're going to happen.
- 51:24It's inevitable, it's coming. It's not a matter of if, it's a
- 51:27matter of when the bad days are going to happen, but it's
- 51:32actually going in with the mindset of knowing that and
- 51:35acknowledging it that's going to help you to achieve your goal
- 51:39because now you've gone in to acknowledge that it's going to
- 51:43be difficult. I think part of the issue,
- 51:45truthfully, in some of the old goals that I had around my
- 51:48health was the belief that it was going to be easy.
- 51:52And I think so many people, myself included, depending on
- 51:56the goal, I struggle with, you know, I, I've talked to even
- 52:00other people in my circle about why am I so good at certain
- 52:05things and achieving them And it feels so fun and easy and other
- 52:09things are so difficult. And I realized my achieving of
- 52:14the goals was directly correlated to my perspective of
- 52:17the experience. Like in business, I go in
- 52:20knowing it's going to be hard. I know I'm going to have
- 52:22problems. I know I'm going to have fires.
- 52:23I know I'm going to have things that come up that I got to solve
- 52:25and got to fix. That's just the game.
- 52:28But I was like, wait a second, why am I not taking that insight
- 52:31and applying that to the other goals in my life?
- 52:33Why am I not applying that insight to getting healthy and
- 52:35realizing, hey, yeah, the workouts, they're going to hurt
- 52:39and you won't be able to sit down to pee for like 2 days,
- 52:41right? Like that's going to be part of
- 52:43starting to move your body when you haven't been working out.
- 52:46It's going to suck to eat some of the foods that maybe don't
- 52:49taste quite as good as the plate of brownies that I ate, but are
- 52:54things that are going to help me to get to where my goal, right?
- 52:57So I had to change my perspective with the process.
- 53:00And what I realized was in business, the things that I was
- 53:03crushing, those came from me having the expectation and being
- 53:07OK with realizing was going to be hard.
- 53:09But yet for some reason, when it came to health and fitness and
- 53:13anything in that realm, I just assumed that it wasn't going to
- 53:16be hard. It was going to be easy.
- 53:18And so then what happens? You get faced with resistance.
- 53:20You're like, what the heck is this?
- 53:21I hate it. And that was something that, you
- 53:24know, I'm going to be honest, I just realized like, I do hate it
- 53:29and I want it. Like it's going to sound so
- 53:34weird, but like I just, I think what was killing me was this
- 53:39toxic positivity about the tough stuff.
- 53:44It's freaking hard. Like I, I got up the other
- 53:47morning and it was negative 17. What?
- 53:52It was negative 17. I couldn't believe it.
- 53:55It was negative 17. And I thought, oh, no, we're not
- 53:58getting out of bed. I was, like there for like 20
- 54:01minutes negotiating with myself. Yeah, I have those mornings too,
- 54:04by the way. So I was like, I'm going
- 54:06outside. It's -17 this is crazy.
- 54:08And I was like, right. But I'm supposed to do the thing
- 54:11that I don't want to do, to have the life that I ultimately want.
- 54:15Because the things that are easy never give you the life you
- 54:18want. And so the things that are hard
- 54:22give you the life you want, which tells me that I'm right on
- 54:24track. So hence go outside and I got
- 54:27all bundled up and I got all my stuff on.
- 54:29And I was like, you know, for the 1st 10 minutes I was like
- 54:31huffing and puffing. I was like, I don't want to do
- 54:33this. This is so stupid.
- 54:34I hate this. But then I started kind of
- 54:37getting flow and I had a podcast on and I was walking, my body
- 54:40started to warm up and I was like, OK, And the snow started
- 54:42to fall and I was like, all right, here we go.
- 54:43This, this is, this is good. We got momentum, but it took a
- 54:47lot. I'm not going to lie, it took a
- 54:49lot for me to get there. And that was because I just
- 54:54expected it to be easy. Not even easy.
- 54:56I expected it to be enjoyable. I knew it was going to be work,
- 55:00but I expected it to be enjoyable work.
- 55:02And there's just, you know, I've, I've heard this from
- 55:05Rachel Hollis, so this is definitely not mine, but she
- 55:09talked in a previous piece of content about embrace the suck.
- 55:13Realize that it's going to, it's going to suck like the thing
- 55:15that you're trying to transform into and the thing that you're
- 55:18trying to achieve. If you're like.
- 55:19But Kate, it's so hard. Yeah, it sucks, but embrace the
- 55:24suck is the motto that she says. Embrace the suck.
- 55:28Embrace the fact that it's hard. Embrace the fact like this is
- 55:30what we signed up for. And so I will tell you right
- 55:32now, I sometimes get up and I, I'm, I just look disheveled in
- 55:36the morning. I get right out of bed, throw on
- 55:38sweatpants and I go outside and you know, I, as I said,
- 55:43sometimes leave the house and I'm like, I don't want to do
- 55:45this. I don't want to go this stupid
- 55:47walk right now. It's so cold and I let it out
- 55:49and I acknowledge it, but then I embrace, you know what, this is
- 55:52hard and it's so difficult and it's annoying, but I'm going to
- 55:54do it because this is what I want.
- 55:56It's what I said I wanted and I'm going to honor it.
- 55:57So the inputs matter, right? Like if you want to have the
- 56:01savings account at the end of the day, you got to put in money
- 56:03every month. If you are somebody who wants to
- 56:06see your life change, you've got to put in the reps every single
- 56:10day. And so the inputs are the thing
- 56:11that you actually want to have super micro focus on that you
- 56:14really want to measure. When we talk about SMART goals,
- 56:17right? SMART goals have a big aspect of
- 56:19them being the fact that they are measurable, meaning that you
- 56:24can actually measure your consistency.
- 56:26It's like for me, I have an app where I track my progress for my
- 56:30health. I have a tracker on my watch for
- 56:33I track how many kilometers I have per day.
- 56:35And before I lay my head on the pillow, I have to hit 10
- 56:38kilometers a day. And so like, I have these ways
- 56:41that I'm able to effectively measure the ways that I'm making
- 56:45progress on my goal. And so I'm not focused on the
- 56:47end thing, I'm just focused on the daily things that I actually
- 56:49can move the needle in. Step 5 is to get accountability
- 56:52in place. And one of the things that I've
- 56:55learned in my journey as a business owner is that
- 56:58transforming and having a transformation and having
- 57:01clarity and having breakthroughs is one thing, but it's so
- 57:04different to be witnessed in it and it's different to have
- 57:08someone else in it with you. And so one of the things that I
- 57:10often, you know, would really recommend to people is setting a
- 57:16goal and being public about it, right?
- 57:18And like even the becoming, as I talked about our, our free
- 57:20Instagram group, which by the way, if you want to join,
- 57:23message us the word becoming. Basically what we do is we add
- 57:26you to our Instagram group. It is all women just like
- 57:27yourself who want to achieve their goals.
- 57:30We state our goals. We support each other, send each
- 57:32other resources, podcast and just cheer each other on along
- 57:35the way. It's absolutely incredible.
- 57:37But the reason that I did that was because I, I know the impact
- 57:40of public sharing of goals. And I want to share this with
- 57:42you. A study found that people who
- 57:43set public or outward goals, they share it with others.
- 57:47They have a visual goal that they can share with another
- 57:50person or it's public in nature. We're 42% more likely to achieve
- 57:54them than those who kept their goals private.
- 57:59So I'm going to read that again for you.
- 58:02Those who set public goals and share them with others are 42%
- 58:09more likely to achieve their goals than those who kept their
- 58:11goals private. This was a study done in 2016,
- 58:1446%. So I'm like, OK, tell everyone I
- 58:19know. Tell everyone I know that I'm
- 58:21trying to get healthy, tell everybody I know that I'm
- 58:23looking to do XYZ as my goal. Why?
- 58:25Because now what I'm doing is I'm planting my goal in my
- 58:29external environment for also other people indirectly to hold
- 58:31me accountable as well. And so I share with people, I
- 58:35tell people like, hey, here's what I'm working on, here's what
- 58:38I'm working on. And then I also sometimes have
- 58:40people who are in it with me. Like I had somebody who was in
- 58:43it with me who was also doing and tracking.
- 58:46And I realized they were making more progress for me.
- 58:48This was also something that I wanted to share with you, which
- 58:51is the, the basis of the social comparison theory.
- 58:54This was created a long, long, long, long time ago, which is
- 58:561950s. But basically it states that
- 58:59when individuals are in a goal with other people and they're
- 59:02working towards similar goals, it is a massive motivator when
- 59:06you can see other people progressing toward a goal that
- 59:08you also desire. So when you share your goals
- 59:12with your friends, when you tell other people, hey, do you want
- 59:15to do this with me? Or when you just tell them what
- 59:18your goal is or you have any kind of similar goal that you're
- 59:20seeing, it is a factor in your motivation.
- 59:24So two ways I want you to think about this.
- 59:25Either share your goal with someone else who doesn't share
- 59:28the goal that you're going for, or get someone else who's in it
- 59:32with you who's working toward the same thing.
- 59:36And that by seeing each other make progress, what you're doing
- 59:39is you're activating your natural competitive nature in
- 59:42you and it's causing you to want to push and go and move even
- 59:46further to bring each other and challenge one another.
- 59:49You can also see this all the time.
- 59:51I used to work at AF 45 and you would see like someone would
- 59:54pick up a weight beside you and you're like, oh, see, Sarah's
- 59:57over there picking up 30s. I'm going to pick up 30s.
- 59:59So like you pick up 30s and you start to wrap 30s, even though
- 1:00:03you might have previous to that one to pick up the 20s.
- 1:00:07Now that's something that is the competitive nature and also the
- 1:00:12motivational nature. Of group workouts, right?
- 1:00:15When you see other people pushing and you're like, I got
- 1:00:17nothing left and you look beside you and they're wrapping it out
- 1:00:19and you're like, OK, here we go, right?
- 1:00:21Like it really motivates you. That's why people love group
- 1:00:24classes. So this is literally based on
- 1:00:26psychology. It's not just my opinion.
- 1:00:28This is based on psychology. And so it really to me, a Step 5
- 1:00:32is giving yourself an aspect of accountability.
- 1:00:34Do not keep your goals private. Share it with someone you love
- 1:00:39that will hold you accountable to your potential.
- 1:00:42Let other people know and talk about it as much as you can.
- 1:00:44I'm doing this and I'm doing this and I'm doing this.
- 1:00:46Why? Because it's planting it in your
- 1:00:48subconscious. It's also because it's in your
- 1:00:51subconscious filtering your environment to give you
- 1:00:53resources, information, and awareness of the ways that you
- 1:00:56could use those things to achieve that goal.
- 1:01:00OK, so as a review for you, the steps are #1 set the intention
- 1:01:06and get a very clear why #2 define success of your goal and
- 1:01:10define what it means once you've achieved it.
- 1:01:12Step 3, get a plan and have a backup plan, not only the
- 1:01:16original plan and the doing research of how you're going to
- 1:01:18do it, but have a backup plan if that plan should not work.
- 1:01:21Step 4 focus on the inputs you're putting in daily and
- 1:01:25manage those and measure those. And Step 5, get someone in your
- 1:01:29corner to be accountable either with you in the process or that
- 1:01:33you are accountable to by vocalizing your goal with
- 1:01:35others. Do not have your goals be
- 1:01:37private. Today was an episode that I was
- 1:01:40excited to record for you because I, since doing my vision
- 1:01:44board and doing this exact process for my goals, have
- 1:01:48genuinely seen so much movement in just the last several weeks
- 1:01:53that I was like, OK, like these stats make sense because I'm
- 1:01:56moving in a way that I have never moved before.
- 1:01:59And it's not, it's not shocking to me because I'm planting the
- 1:02:03things in my environment. I'm telling everyone I know
- 1:02:05about my goals. I'm sharing it publicly on
- 1:02:07social media and I know that everything I'm saying is maybe
- 1:02:10potentially something you've never done before.
- 1:02:12And hey, yeah, welcome to the group.
- 1:02:14I've also done some of these things never before for some
- 1:02:16goals I have, but for the ones that I have achieved, what I
- 1:02:20realized in reverse engineered is I did all these things for
- 1:02:23those things I've achieved. I did this for the seven figure
- 1:02:26business that I have, right? I did this for the type of
- 1:02:30financial independence that I have.
- 1:02:32Like these are things that I've been doing, but not in all
- 1:02:35buckets. And so I had a really
- 1:02:39interesting pill to swallow to realize that I had to honor in
- 1:02:41every bucket, not just in some buckets.
- 1:02:44And so this is your opportunity. I want to also say that, you
- 1:02:47know, the timing of this episode is great because it means that
- 1:02:51you at this moment, this is the time and the season where a lot
- 1:02:56of people have already given up on their New Year's goals.
- 1:02:59They're like, yeah, 2025, here's what I'm going to do.
- 1:03:01And they have already given up on it, and they're not doing any
- 1:03:02longer, right? But this is an opportunity for
- 1:03:06you to realize you just start tomorrow, start today.
- 1:03:09You know, if you're listening to this in the morning, great, I'm
- 1:03:11going to start tonight. Listen to it at night.
- 1:03:13First thing tomorrow morning. I'm getting right back on that
- 1:03:14horse and I'm going to be doing this.
- 1:03:17And the thing I want to encourage you to do is don't
- 1:03:19listen to today's episode and be like, oh, it's so inspiring,
- 1:03:23interesting, and never do anything about it.
- 1:03:25If you have a goal and you have not achieved it, this is your
- 1:03:28sign and your indication to come back to this.
- 1:03:32Run through the five steps. Go drive on your way home today
- 1:03:36or going out to get a coffee or whatever it may be and go get
- 1:03:39that vision board. Go buy those magazines.
- 1:03:41Make it fun. Do it with your partner, do it
- 1:03:43with a a friend. Do it with your kids, right?
- 1:03:46Like pull images that they feel called to and make it a fun
- 1:03:49thing. Like do this and get other
- 1:03:52people enrolled in the version of you that you're going to
- 1:03:56become. And you'll notice I didn't say
- 1:03:58that you could become that you're going to become, this is
- 1:04:03something that you have to decide you want and hell or high
- 1:04:06water, you're going to do it. And the difference of whether
- 1:04:09you achieve it is based off things we talked about today.
- 1:04:12And so all of that to be said, you know that I appreciate you
- 1:04:18immensely for tuning in every week, listening to these
- 1:04:21episodes. And what would mean the world to
- 1:04:23me is, of course, if you guys want to subscribe or follow, it
- 1:04:26would mean the world to me to have your support.
- 1:04:27It really does help us to be able to grow this community and
- 1:04:31have an even bigger and bigger impact every single week.
- 1:04:33But what I also would love is to hear from you and just to hear
- 1:04:37what landed today, what maybe if you want to share with me, what
- 1:04:40are some of the goals that you're working toward?
- 1:04:42What are some of the things that you're looking to achieve?
- 1:04:44And as I said a couple times today, we do also have that free
- 1:04:47community. So we have a Instagram messaging
- 1:04:50community. If you are somebody who's like,
- 1:04:52listen, after this, I realized I'm doing it.
- 1:04:55I'm going for the goals. All you have to do is message me
- 1:04:57the word becoming. The becoming is a community that
- 1:05:00we have that is completely free for women that are looking to go
- 1:05:03and tackle their goals this year and really step into the level
- 1:05:06of the individual that they want to become in 2025.
- 1:05:09And so if you'd love to be added to that, just master me.
- 1:05:11The word becoming, I will add you right away and we'll get you
- 1:05:14integrated within the group to start to work on those goals
- 1:05:17that you have. So all of that to say, my
- 1:05:19friend, I love you to bits. Thank you so, so much for tuning
- 1:05:22in. I appreciate you listening.
- 1:05:23And with all that being said, I will see you next week.
- 1:05:25So, as always, stay ambitious.
