- 0:19Rick Costa: Okay, yeah, you don't sound great today, so it was the rush of getting mom to bed and then other issues, and yeah, yeah, tony, how was your week?
- 0:28Tony D.: Not too bad.
- 0:29Tony D.: Allege decided to want to kick in pretty hard this week, so if I turn my camera off, I got to blow my nose.
- 0:35Carmen Lezeth: We all have issues today.
- 0:37Carmen Lezeth: Let me tell you I actually had a great day today.
- 0:39Carmen Lezeth: I unbelievably had like Bam, bam, bam, like just a busy, busy day, but it was all meeting really amazing great people and dealing with really, really good stuff.
- 0:48Carmen Lezeth: I had to meet with a lawyer this morning and you know that's never gonna go well, right, but this man was on point like he was so cool and you know, this whole conversation people have about us Well, not you guys, but me swearing.
- 1:02Carmen Lezeth: The reason why I love this guy is because he swears, like he on his YouTube channel on everything.
- 1:09Carmen Lezeth: He's just.
- 1:09Carmen Lezeth: He's just.
- 1:10Carmen Lezeth: Again, it's kind of like it's just this flavor.
- 1:12Carmen Lezeth: It's not anything malicious or bad or anything.
- 1:14Carmen Lezeth: He's just having a conversation.
- 1:15Carmen Lezeth: So that went really well.
- 1:17Carmen Lezeth: I was really happy about that.
- 1:18Carmen Lezeth: I had another conversation with some bank folk.
- 1:20Carmen Lezeth: Mm-hmm, yes, had some conversations with some bank folk about my loan I've been asking about.
- 1:27Carmen Lezeth: So we are, you know, you have to push hard, you have to keep asking people.
- 1:31Carmen Lezeth: You got to keep saying no, you're wrong, I'm right, so we don't see how that goes.
- 1:35Carmen Lezeth: But it was a really good meeting and I was really glad that they took the meeting.
- 1:38Carmen Lezeth: And let me say something Big banks and and I work with a lot of them and I actually have Bank of America Let me tell you big banks are never, ever, ever gonna deal with like little people in the way in which they deal with rich people.
- 1:50Carmen Lezeth: But you know who will sit down with you and have a conversation on a zoom call or whatever Credit unions.
- 1:55Carmen Lezeth: I will say that yeah so if you're not part of a credit union, you miss an out, because they have really good interest rates.
- 2:01Carmen Lezeth: They really do treat you like a community whatever, and so I had a conversation with them today and they were on point and awesome and I just I feel really good about the possibilities.
- 2:10Carmen Lezeth: You know I'm saying so.
- 2:12Rick Costa: I was yeah, heard that for a long time that they said if you can go credit union, do it.
- 2:16Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, um, you know a lot of credit unions.
- 2:18Carmen Lezeth: Even if you're not part of a union, they will find a way to get you in because their whole thing is about servicing as many people as possible.
- 2:24Carmen Lezeth: You know, yeah, so, and I'm you know, I'm part of SAG after, and I do have a check-in account with my credit union and I love them and and I've had them for a long time.
- 2:33Carmen Lezeth: They're just never my first thought when it's like, oh, I need a business loan because they're not a business bank, you know, but anyway, so that was good, how you guys.
- 2:41Carmen Lezeth: You know what, tony, I thought about you, beyonce and country music.
- 2:44Carmen Lezeth: I was just wondering if you were.
- 2:47Rick Costa: Because you're the music king.
- 2:48Carmen Lezeth: Because you're the music king, how you feeling about Beyonce crossing over with her country music and top topping the charts with Texas.
- 2:55Carmen Lezeth: Hold them.
- 2:56Tony D.: Okay, I'm not.
- 2:57Tony D.: I'm not a country music man.
- 2:59Tony D.: I'm not a big Beyonce fan.
- 3:00Tony D.: I have heard about, I have seen stories, a lot of women.
- 3:02Tony D.: I've seen a supporter, a lot of women, women, yes, I see a lot of women that's supporting her.
- 3:07Tony D.: She's making her money.
- 3:09Tony D.: I can't say nothing against it I wasn't a fan of.
- 3:11Tony D.: I should heard the song last week.
- 3:16Carmen Lezeth: Really why?
- 3:17Tony D.: she's not your genre, not really Really, not really Okay.
- 3:25Carmen Lezeth: But but, but, but, do you like Jay-Z?
- 3:26Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, oh, okay, all right, so it's just not your music.
- 3:30Tony D.: You're not.
- 3:31Tony D.: She's very female oriented her music, and I'm not a woman female empowerment.
- 3:35Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I could see how that would rub you the wrong way.
- 3:38Tony D.: That's what's female empowerment.
- 3:39Tony D.: I can't go.
- 3:39Tony D.: It's like when it was like me, rough neck, we was all jamming.
- 3:42Carmen Lezeth: It was like Okay, I lost single ladies right, so okay, but she topped the charts.
- 3:51Carmen Lezeth: John Schneider from what's that.
- 3:54Carmen Lezeth: Do so, has it clearly had an issue?
- 3:57Rick Costa: Oh, yeah, I think I saw that he was so upset.
- 4:01Carmen Lezeth: So what's his name?
- 4:01Carmen Lezeth: Josh John Schneider.
- 4:06Tony D.: It's basically about somebody who's an artist coming over to that genre and taking over.
- 4:09Tony D.: People are gonna have issue with this, like when the hip-hop stars started going to the hip, to the rock and roll all the fame.
- 4:13Tony D.: I get it, but we had an impact in the music world.
- 4:17Carmen Lezeth: Well wait, the thing that was interesting about what he said is, in one sentence he said she shouldn't be able to come into our genre.
- 4:23Carmen Lezeth: Oh, but it's okay that Shania Twain can go into, you know, hip-hop or whatever.
- 4:27Carmen Lezeth: It was just hilarious, I'm like that's called racism.
- 4:30Carmen Lezeth: People, that's racism, right there, baby.
- 4:33Rick Costa: You're being a stupid.
- 4:34Carmen Lezeth: John Schneider, I mean in the same breath.
- 4:41Carmen Lezeth: He didn't even realize like how hypocritical and contradictory and dumb assery he was sounding by talking like that.
- 4:49Carmen Lezeth: What I mean if you're going to stand on the statement, at least be what.
- 4:56Carmen Lezeth: Did we just lose him?
- 4:58Tony D.: No, okay, I'll talk about camera off.
- 5:01Rick Costa: Some people just need to.
- 5:02Rick Costa: Some people just need to stay in their lane and mind the business.
- 5:05Carmen Lezeth: Oh, you be talking about John Schneider, though I that was just weird, yeah, and I'm not a country music fan either.
- 5:10Carmen Lezeth: I I realized, though I really don't like the twang and country music.
- 5:13Carmen Lezeth: We talked about that in the past and I you know, to me this isn't.
- 5:16Carmen Lezeth: There's no twang in it, but it's just not my thing.
- 5:18Carmen Lezeth: But I'm very happy for her.
- 5:19Carmen Lezeth: I was cracking up.
- 5:21Tony D.: Well, and she has fans in that genre, so she made music for them.
- 5:25Tony D.: People got to realize you have an artist that is a specific genre, but you will have people outside of the genre who may also like their music, who may want to make music for them, and that's yeah, yeah hey, jeff, how are you?
- 5:35Carmen Lezeth: Beyonce looks whiter than Taylor Swift.
- 5:37Carmen Lezeth: Good music is good music.
- 5:39Carmen Lezeth: Luke and Tracy was amazing.
- 5:40Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 5:41Carmen Lezeth: Beyonce looked whiter than Taylor Swift, and what?
- 5:43Rick Costa: that sounds like.
- 5:47Carmen Lezeth: I know, jeff.
- 5:47Carmen Lezeth: We went to college together, so I'm like I know that he's not, but I don't know what he means by that.
- 5:52Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 5:53Carmen Lezeth: Oh, because she bleached her hair white, or something.
- 5:55Tony D.: I don't know.
- 5:57Carmen Lezeth: You have to be more specific, because people don't think you racist.
- 6:00Rick Costa: I have seen, like you know, the conspiracy people type say like here was Beyonce then and look at her now and I got.
- 6:06Rick Costa: You can't really say it's not true.
- 6:08Rick Costa: She's the lighter she used to be on a live.
- 6:13Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, well, first of all, let's just be clear that she is a light-skinned black woman.
- 6:17Carmen Lezeth: That's kind of like.
- 6:18Carmen Lezeth: And that's kind of like saying that I would look white if I dyed my hair white, and you know, I mean like it's kind of not fair and I've gotten that in the past.
- 6:25Carmen Lezeth: So there is that too, I mean.
- 6:27Carmen Lezeth: But that doesn't make you less black as a person of color.
- 6:31Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean, but I guess I get it.
- 6:32Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, jeff, I hear you.
- 6:34Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, she, she has her here, white platinum now, because she was doing that whole platinum thing of a jiggy on her tour or whatever and all the silver and whatever.
- 6:42Carmen Lezeth: So I Think she looks absolutely stunning.
- 6:45Carmen Lezeth: I'm sick and tired of all of her pictures because she's so Beautiful for these fashion designers.
- 6:50Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, it's all jealousy and hatred like deep deep.
- 6:53Carmen Lezeth: You know, I mean she's so gorgeous, but she's just she's also highlighting just an amazing array of designers and fashion in everything that she does.
- 7:01Carmen Lezeth: So it's not just the music, right, it's kind of it's the whole Package.
- 7:06Carmen Lezeth: That is kind of fascinating to me to kind of watch.
- 7:09Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, she is beautiful, but I think she tries too hard.
- 7:12Tony D.: I think they're pushing her boy.
- 7:13Tony D.: I think they're pushing her because she was fine.
- 7:15Tony D.: She was with Destiny's Child with the black hair.
- 7:16Tony D.: The minute she went blonde and started doing other music, people went crazy.
- 7:19Carmen Lezeth: Why is it not okay for her to change things up a bit?
- 7:22Carmen Lezeth: No, it is.
- 7:23Tony D.: They don't interrupt.
- 7:24Tony D.: She was fine with Destiny's Child.
- 7:26Tony D.: They were fine, they were good.
- 7:27Carmen Lezeth: Why do you mean?
- 7:28Carmen Lezeth: Fine, she is amazing.
- 7:29Carmen Lezeth: Now is a single.
- 7:31Tony D.: They kind of pulled her and made her something else, outside of how she was she first came in.
- 7:35Tony D.: It was something they were kids in Destiny's.
- 7:37Tony D.: Child.
- 7:37Tony D.: They felt like they made a change to them.
- 7:39Carmen Lezeth: If you really does feel like they made a change to them, you realize, I think she's almost 40, right, yeah, she had three children.
- 7:43Carmen Lezeth: So I'm just saying do we say these same things about men in the industry, like?
- 7:51Tony D.: What's your Michael?
- 7:51Tony D.: What's your name?
- 7:52Tony D.: Oh, I don't know.
- 7:54Carmen Lezeth: You know, I'm just, I'm just pulling that out.
- 7:56Carmen Lezeth: There's an idea You're making the judgment.
- 7:57Carmen Lezeth: That I don't think is kind of.
- 7:59Tony D.: I may be wrong, but that's the perception I kind of got when they I feel like they dulled her up.
- 8:03Tony D.: When they start making your hair like, like that, they're starting to make it like this.
- 8:08Carmen Lezeth: I want to defend the Beyonce in this sense.
- 8:09Carmen Lezeth: I don't think anyone is telling Beyonce to do anything.
- 8:12Carmen Lezeth: I think Beyonce is saying you know what?
- 8:14Carmen Lezeth: This is how I want to do.
- 8:16Carmen Lezeth: Abc and D.
- 8:17Carmen Lezeth: Let's try this why would you think it's not.
- 8:20Carmen Lezeth: That's not.
- 8:20Carmen Lezeth: Why would you think they are doing something to her?
- 8:23Carmen Lezeth: Who is this day?
- 8:25Tony D.: I'm not trying to be telling you what the who was the day.
- 8:28Carmen Lezeth: I'm just saying.
- 8:29Tony D.: Sometimes certain stars that just doll them up make them bigger.
- 8:31Tony D.: It seems like there was a change to her.
- 8:34Carmen Lezeth: Of course there was a change.
- 8:35Carmen Lezeth: She grew up, she's done here.
- 8:38Carmen Lezeth: It's the same.
- 8:39Carmen Lezeth: She can only sing.
- 8:41Carmen Lezeth: Say my name for so long.
- 8:42Carmen Lezeth: Say my name, say my name.
- 8:48Tony D.: It's not like.
- 8:48Rick Costa: Michelle.
- 8:48Rick Costa: And what's the other woman's name?
- 8:49Rick Costa: Michelle and the toy.
- 8:50Rick Costa: The toy, yes.
- 8:50Tony D.: No, it doesn't.
- 8:51Tony D.: It was a member I don't know, I just knew.
- 8:55Carmen Lezeth: They're not famous like Beyonce, but they're doing all right.
- 8:57Tony D.: There was Kelly, there was Michelle Kelly.
- 8:59Rick Costa: That's the one I'm talking about Kelly.
- 9:00Tony D.: Kelly was before right.
- 9:04Carmen Lezeth: Why is your internet kind of going in and out?
- 9:06Rick Costa: Is it?
- 9:07Carmen Lezeth: I'm just making note for restream.
- 9:08Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm going to.
- 9:09Carmen Lezeth: I think she's chasing Taylor.
- 9:15Carmen Lezeth: Taylor had a movie, then Bay had a movie.
- 9:17Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I think that's all your perception, and things don't happen that fast.
- 9:21Tony D.: Just like me.
- 9:22Tony D.: She was in dream girls, she was in Cadillac records, she already had movies.
- 9:26Carmen Lezeth: Honestly, yeah, she did.
- 9:27Tony D.: She did.
- 9:27Tony D.: She already had movies.
- 9:28Tony D.: That one I'm going to have to disagree with, honestly.
- 9:32Carmen Lezeth: Only doesn't like change.
- 9:33Carmen Lezeth: That's right.
- 9:34Carmen Lezeth: I agree with that, cynthia, 100% different.
- 9:37Tony D.: Some people change or something See different to me.
- 9:39Carmen Lezeth: I just think I just want you to kind of reflect back and maybe consider the possibility that you're putting too much of your ideas on what she may be doing as opposed to giving her some creative kind of respect.
- 9:51Carmen Lezeth: And she's a grown woman who is a mega star and you know they changed her, they made her different.
- 9:57Carmen Lezeth: She a grown woman.
- 9:59Tony D.: If she did it herself, then you're correct, okay.
- 10:03Rick Costa: My thing is we are literally arguing about somebody changing their hair color.
- 10:08Rick Costa: Who cares?
- 10:09Rick Costa: I don't know.
- 10:10Carmen Lezeth: We care.
- 10:10Carmen Lezeth: That's why we talk about I mean, it's not that I think the issue is bigger.
- 10:15Carmen Lezeth: I'm trying to make a kind of point.
- 10:17Carmen Lezeth: Is, I think sometimes, especially men, sorry don't realize that sometimes you say things that are not really fair, you know what I mean Like we're making a joke.
- 10:26Carmen Lezeth: Bring one up, go ahead, I'm ready.
- 10:29Carmen Lezeth: Funny.
- 10:32Tony D.: I'm going to start, really start, that's right About what we say, or we'll say things and what I'm just saying.
- 10:38Carmen Lezeth: I'm saying you're putting some pressures on a woman star that I don't think you put on men when we're having a conversation.
- 10:44Tony D.: No, we put the pressure on men too, because you know, michael Jackson caught plenty of flight for changes he made.
- 10:48Carmen Lezeth: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 10:50Carmen Lezeth: I said, men you said women too.
- 10:52Carmen Lezeth: I said go ahead, tell me when women have put pressure on men when I said something that was indicative of what I was saying, about what you and Rick were kind of doing Well, not Rick, rick, you weren't really saying it was all Tony being.
- 11:05Tony D.: I said I felt like there was a change made to her.
- 11:07Tony D.: I did you think that she was just being more creative?
- 11:10Tony D.: Okay?
- 11:11Carmen Lezeth: Okay.
- 11:11Carmen Lezeth: Do you think a change was made to Michael yes, or do you think Michael Jackson made his own choices?
- 11:17Carmen Lezeth: That's a great example.
- 11:18Tony D.: I don't know if he made those choices to his face.
- 11:19Tony D.: That would have to be.
- 11:20Tony D.: He would have to tell you that.
- 11:21Carmen Lezeth: But here's what I'm saying is, when we think of Michael Jackson, or we think of Prince or we think of whatever celebrity that we think we respect to our men, we don't all of a sudden assume that they weren't in charge of their own creative decisions.
- 11:34Tony D.: No, I'm not coming that hard and, like I said, you say that if she did, I'm like, okay, cool, I might change this phase.
- 11:39Tony D.: Everybody's talking about it.
- 11:39Tony D.: Prince didn't change nothing.
- 11:41Carmen Lezeth: I know, but did you hear what I just said?
- 11:42Carmen Lezeth: I said, when you speak of Michael or men, you give them undue respect by not saying that somebody did something to them.
- 11:51Tony D.: We think something happened to Michael.
- 11:53Tony D.: If you want to use a man, that's changed.
- 11:55Carmen Lezeth: She's going over your head when I'm trying to say that.
- 11:57Rick Costa: Let me try to translate.
- 11:58Rick Costa: Go ahead, rick, let me try to translate.
- 12:01Rick Costa: So when a woman makes a change, it might have been them that made her do it, but if a man makes a change, it wasn't them, he just decided to do it.
- 12:10Tony D.: I think that's what we're trying to do and I said I don't think I did that too.
- 12:12Tony D.: I think something else happened.
- 12:14Carmen Lezeth: Well, mike, clearly didn't do his own plastic surgery.
- 12:16Carmen Lezeth: Next topic I just think it's important because how we talk about women in any industry needs it is changing.
- 12:26Carmen Lezeth: It is changing.
- 12:26Carmen Lezeth: Hey, Michael, the sound quality is perfect.
- 12:32Carmen Lezeth: There's no fading in and out.
- 12:32Carmen Lezeth: I like the energy level in this podcast.
- 12:34Carmen Lezeth: Okay, we're still testing out restrain because they're always paying attention now.
- 12:40Carmen Lezeth: We don't like this anyway I know.
- 12:43Carmen Lezeth: But, tony, here's my thing.
- 12:44Carmen Lezeth: I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong.
- 12:46Carmen Lezeth: I'm saying the way in which we all talk about each other needs to be elevated, and so we need to call each other out when we're accidentally saying things that are probably not as supportive.
- 12:56Carmen Lezeth: I think Beyonce and Taylor Swift are pretty powerful women who make their own decisions.
- 13:03Carmen Lezeth: I don't think anyone is telling Beyonce, against her will, to make her hair platinum or to wear whatever outfit she wants to wear.
- 13:10Carmen Lezeth: I am pretty sure she is making no decisions, and when Verizon comes to her and says, hey, do you want to?
- 13:16Carmen Lezeth: She's like no or yes.
- 13:17Tony D.: No, I believe that.
- 13:18Tony D.: I believe that what do you mean I'm?
- 13:19Tony D.: One of the wig.
- 13:20Carmen Lezeth: So when you say the day thing, it bothers me.
- 13:21Carmen Lezeth: Go ahead, Rick.
- 13:22Rick Costa: I'm sorry I was going to say what if it's a wig, it would be a wig.
- 13:24Rick Costa: I mean, she's a black woman.
- 13:27Carmen Lezeth: So it doesn't matter if it's a wig.
- 13:28Carmen Lezeth: I mean, she's always had blonde hair.
- 13:29Carmen Lezeth: Do you think women are more pretty in the industry or men are more supportive?
- 13:34Carmen Lezeth: Oh petty.
- 13:35Carmen Lezeth: Do you think women are more petty in the industry or men are more supportive of each other?
- 13:42Tony D.: That's a good question.
- 13:42Tony D.: That's a very good question.
- 13:43Carmen Lezeth: I don't think it's a good question.
- 13:45Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what.
- 13:46Carmen Lezeth: Why do I think women are more petty?
- 13:48Tony D.: I think both are petty and they're somewhere.
- 13:50Tony D.: Both are supportive because we've seen it and heard it.
- 13:52Tony D.: If you want the truth, Jeffrey, I'll be honest about that.
- 13:55Tony D.: Everybody gets criticized, but also everybody gets supported.
- 13:58Tony D.: That's a very deep and strong question.
- 14:00Tony D.: I really can't answer.
- 14:01Tony D.: I mean both sides, for both genders, honestly.
- 14:04Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I think in this conversation, men are being more petty because you're so consumed by her blonde hair.
- 14:10Carmen Lezeth: She's trying to look like Taylor.
- 14:12Carmen Lezeth: I asked about the music and somehow we got into a conversation about blonde hair and how white she looks Like.
- 14:18Carmen Lezeth: So you know, if you're going to ask me in this conversation, that's where the pettiness is.
- 14:24Carmen Lezeth: If anything, I've seen women Taylor Swift specifically and Beyoncé supporting each other, because people keep trying to say that they're against each other and they're not.
- 14:32Carmen Lezeth: If anybody has followed any of the history of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, taylor Swift looks up to Beyoncé you know what I mean Like it's like a mentor to her, and they they have done things together and been more collaborative than we've even realized.
- 14:44Tony D.: And what they've done is been more supportive of each other than critical of each other, more than their fans have been.
- 14:48Tony D.: That's the truth.
- 14:49Rick Costa: That's even really good.
- 14:50Rick Costa: What I noticed at the Grammys, too, is that Taylor Swift, whoever was singing, she was not always standing, but a lot of times she was standing and she was singing the song with them.
- 14:58Rick Costa: She was supporting everybody just by singing their song.
- 15:01Carmen Lezeth: And people get so upset with her.
- 15:02Carmen Lezeth: I don't get it.
- 15:02Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia just said people pick and choose who they want to support.
- 15:05Carmen Lezeth: This is true.
- 15:06Carmen Lezeth: This is true.
- 15:07Carmen Lezeth: Jeff said in movie and music friends always hire friends Absolutely through, at least here in Hollywood.
- 15:14Carmen Lezeth: Yes, it's all about networking.
- 15:15Carmen Lezeth: I don't know if it's friends, but it's definitely who you know.
- 15:18Rick Costa: Is it just movie and music though?
- 15:20Carmen Lezeth: Oh, that's a good question.
- 15:20Carmen Lezeth: Rick said that again.
- 15:22Rick Costa: Is it just movie and music though?
- 15:24Carmen Lezeth: Mario is in the house.
- 15:25Carmen Lezeth: Hey, Mario.
- 15:26Carmen Lezeth: No, Rick, you're probably right in every industry, right?
- 15:30Rick Costa: Yes, and then you got what's that word?
- 15:33Rick Costa: Nepotism?
- 15:33Rick Costa: Yeah, hire their relatives.
- 15:36Tony D.: Well, that's just bad People that got money hiring their relatives.
- 15:38Tony D.: I don't, almost don't blame.
- 15:40Carmen Lezeth: I do.
- 15:40Carmen Lezeth: I think that's wrong I get it.
- 15:42Carmen Lezeth: I think it's wrong.
- 15:43Tony D.: You bring the people with you.
- 15:44Tony D.: I get that.
- 15:45Carmen Lezeth: I'm saying if they're not qualified, right, so like no offense.
- 15:49Carmen Lezeth: But like if I were to hire you know somebody and they're not qualified just because they're related to me, that would get me really upset, especially when they failed and I could have hired somebody who's great.
- 16:00Carmen Lezeth: So you being related to me ain't going to get you in.
- 16:02Carmen Lezeth: You need to be qualified.
- 16:03Carmen Lezeth: I mean, let me see.
- 16:05Carmen Lezeth: Mara said they've supported each other movies premieres.
- 16:08Carmen Lezeth: That's true, that was really great.
- 16:09Carmen Lezeth: Actually, cynthia said it's everywhere, even in the hospitals.
- 16:12Carmen Lezeth: Oh, I know all the doctors and nurses and everybody who works with each other.
- 16:16Carmen Lezeth: It's all about who you know and and I think we're we're less, we're less for it.
- 16:22Carmen Lezeth: Like when people are hiring their relatives, I think we all lose out because not only do we not get the job, but then you get less quality.
- 16:30Carmen Lezeth: If the person's not qualified, does that make sense?
- 16:32Rick Costa: But it's not always a bad thing, like you said, if they're qualified like my job that I have now.
- 16:36Rick Costa: I got it through a high school friend.
- 16:38Rick Costa: She's like oh, I was on whatever those websites he looked up jobs I saw your name on there.
- 16:42Carmen Lezeth: You're looking for a job and I knew we're in high school Right.
- 16:45Rick Costa: She got me the job Still there.
- 16:47Carmen Lezeth: That's a network that's not your, that's not your relative and you're qualified.
- 16:50Tony D.: Right.
- 16:51Carmen Lezeth: So nepotism is you're my brother and I hire you, or you're my son and I hire you to become the executive or the CEO, whatever, when I leave and you have no experience whatsoever.
- 17:03Carmen Lezeth: Michael just said the world is forever in deep levels of debate.
- 17:06Carmen Lezeth: We need to celebrate our differences, more love, less hate and judgment.
- 17:08Carmen Lezeth: That's not all about the joy is, but you got to have the debates.
- 17:12Carmen Lezeth: Deep debates are good, tony.
- 17:15Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to steal that from you.
- 17:18Carmen Lezeth: I believe you.
- 17:18Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to make you do that and then put you in a good background and have you do that and that's going to become part of my trademark.
- 17:24Rick Costa: All about the joy promo and then I'll send.
- 17:25Rick Costa: You see, tony.
- 17:28Carmen Lezeth: I'm totally going to steal it from him because he does it all the time and it's so funny.
- 17:32Carmen Lezeth: I think debates are great, I think the level of respect and having conversations is really important, and I think I mean you, you were very kind, and so on a few other people who listened to my podcast last week on Carmen talk, and I really it's actually become one of the highest podcasts listened to, which is really freaking out that these things are happening.
- 17:53Carmen Lezeth: But and it happened so fast but it's part of that conversation, right, having a debate and a conversation about things that are very touch in hard.
- 17:59Carmen Lezeth: This is the first time I actually got to watch one of your shows.
- 18:04Carmen Lezeth: Welcome, well, thank you.
- 18:06Carmen Lezeth: Welcome, jeff, you were here before, or maybe you tagged on one of my videos before, I think yeah, but yeah, that whole conversation was important too, just talking about different ways of understanding race, you know.
- 18:16Rick Costa: I like what you did there.
- 18:17Rick Costa: I was like I see what you did there, I see what you did there.
- 18:20Carmen Lezeth: He started with one thing.
- 18:21Rick Costa: What are you making?
- 18:21Rick Costa: The whole handicap thing started there to get people to open their mind and relax, and then boom.
- 18:28Carmen Lezeth: Boom, I got you Okay.
- 18:29Carmen Lezeth: So first I should tell you that I try not to use the word handicap, because what I understand is that it comes from a derogatory place and look at, I'm just trying.
- 18:39Carmen Lezeth: This isn't about being woke, but if being woke means not being asleep, I'm all for it.
- 18:42Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I'm all for it, but hand in cap is what people?
- 18:47Carmen Lezeth: That's where that word comes from, hand in cap and it's people you start to beg for money all the time.
- 18:53Carmen Lezeth: So I try to.
- 18:55Carmen Lezeth: If you notice, in that podcast I kept trying to say disabled, disabled, disabled or challenged or whatever, because I'm trying to use better words, being a smarter, more compassionate, more inclusive human being.
- 19:07Carmen Lezeth: Quote unquote woke.
- 19:08Carmen Lezeth: I love the word woke.
- 19:10Carmen Lezeth: I think people need to embrace that word because y'all got it twisted.
- 19:14Carmen Lezeth: I do not want to be asleep, but that's where that word comes from, and when you learn where words come from, you realize you know what.
- 19:19Carmen Lezeth: I don't need to use that word.
- 19:20Carmen Lezeth: Use some different.
- 19:21Rick Costa: What are we going to say You're going to talk about woke.
- 19:23Rick Costa: I don't know, this is my field, I guess of a fandom.
- 19:28Rick Costa: But people are losing their mind over the X-Men 97 cartoon because they're like it's woke, like the stuff they're saying is just great, you're going to have to tell me we don't.
- 19:39Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what it's like X-Men 97 cartoon.
- 19:41Rick Costa: Yes, it's an animated.
- 19:42Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 19:42Carmen Lezeth: X-men 97 cartoon.
- 19:44Rick Costa: So I don't know if any of you ever saw the X-Men Fox X-Men cartoon from when you were younger In the early 90s, in the early 90s, so they're bringing it back.
- 19:50Rick Costa: X-men 97 is called.
- 19:52Tony D.: Oh, so basically a continuation, a couple of characters.
- 19:57Rick Costa: They're saying is what's that word?
- 19:59Rick Costa: Binary?
- 20:00Rick Costa: Yes, so people are like more of its binary.
- 20:03Rick Costa: This is supposed to be a continuation from 97.
- 20:05Rick Costa: That word didn't even exist for that thing, people having to flip and hard to talk about that.
- 20:09Rick Costa: Then another thing this was really really weird to me.
- 20:11Rick Costa: They were like comparing a picture of Rogue's butt from the first cartoon to this one.
- 20:17Rick Costa: They're like she ain't got no butt they took away her butt she infaminated no more, and people are making videos on YouTube.
- 20:23Carmen Lezeth: Okay, you guys have too much time on your hands.
- 20:26Rick Costa: That's what I'm saying.
- 20:27Rick Costa: People are losing their minds making videos about this.
- 20:29Rick Costa: I'm like you know, it's not that deep.
- 20:31Carmen Lezeth: Here's the thing.
- 20:31Carmen Lezeth: How do you feel about it, though, rick?
- 20:33Carmen Lezeth: How do you feel about a certain character?
- 20:36Carmen Lezeth: I don't know the X-Men 97 cartoons, I'm not going to watch it but making a character binary, or different race, or different gender, how do you feel about it?
- 20:45Rick Costa: I mean, first of all, it hasn't even come out yet.
- 20:47Rick Costa: So a few people just dogged like crazy and you haven't even seen it yet.
- 20:51Carmen Lezeth: But how do you know then?
- 20:52Carmen Lezeth: How do you know, are they promoting it as?
- 20:54Tony D.: in the story.
- 20:54Tony D.: I've seen it for the last week of this year.
- 20:56Rick Costa: I've seen at least 15 people making videos complaining about this cartoon.
- 21:00Carmen Lezeth: No, no, but how do they know?
- 21:02Rick Costa: Because a trailer came out just off the trailer oh, okay, sorry.
- 21:04Rick Costa: And.
- 21:06Tony D.: I'm like, well, that's sort of the thing I didn't watch it.
- 21:08Rick Costa: It's not even out yet.
- 21:09Carmen Lezeth: Yes, but so how do you?
- 21:10Carmen Lezeth: I know, Okay, so that's the people.
- 21:12Carmen Lezeth: How do?
- 21:14Carmen Lezeth: Let me ask you a question for the fourth time.
- 21:15Carmen Lezeth: How do you feel about it, Rick?
- 21:18Rick Costa: I don't want to prejudge it before I see it.
- 21:20Rick Costa: You know people are.
- 21:21Rick Costa: People love to nitpick any little thing.
- 21:22Rick Costa: Well, you got great answers for going all out.
- 21:25Carmen Lezeth: No, but it's true, he's not even told the line, but he's saying he's going to wait to see it.
- 21:28Carmen Lezeth: So I'm hearing you don't care if somebody's binary or whatever.
- 21:30Rick Costa: I'm saying you're basing, you're saying that this is trash, like Madame Webb actually was trash, that movie.
- 21:35Rick Costa: But anyway, that's another topic.
- 21:36Rick Costa: Oh, that's even worse.
- 21:38Carmen Lezeth: That's even worse.
- 21:38Carmen Lezeth: I don't know that one Okay.
- 21:41Rick Costa: That's even worse on the internet.
- 21:42Rick Costa: Oh my gosh, they are trashing it.
- 21:43Rick Costa: They were like I'd rather watch more of this than the.
- 21:46Tony D.: Marvels over this any day.
- 21:47Tony D.: Oh yeah, Save death for what we finished this one.
- 21:49Carmen Lezeth: Okay, that's great.
- 21:50Carmen Lezeth: Okay, here's my question.
- 21:51Carmen Lezeth: So you're I mean, does it match?
- 21:54Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I'm going to answer it and then maybe you'll see why I frustrated with you, because you never want to answer a question.
- 21:59Carmen Lezeth: He's trying to tiptoe so he don't get his people mad.
- 22:02Carmen Lezeth: I don't think it really matters if the storyline isn't about an actual sexual act or whatever, like like I wouldn't care if Thor came out as gay or something like who cares?
- 22:13Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean?
- 22:13Carmen Lezeth: Like because that's not part of his character.
- 22:15Carmen Lezeth: It's just, it's just being more inclusive, you know.
- 22:18Carmen Lezeth: So that's what I'm saying.
- 22:19Carmen Lezeth: I think if the show is about a sexual situation and they're changing the whole thing about it, then that's different.
- 22:26Carmen Lezeth: But if they're just being more inclusive, because the world is not white and these are cartoons, oh my God, like it's not real, I don't see what the big deal is.
- 22:37Carmen Lezeth: But you know, people got their issues.
- 22:39Tony D.: The problem is they emphasize the sexuality over the storyline.
- 22:42Carmen Lezeth: Are they?
- 22:42Carmen Lezeth: Or are they just letting you know?
- 22:43Carmen Lezeth: I don't know this.
- 22:45Tony D.: If you take the article about it, that's what they're doing.
- 22:46Tony D.: Look at the.
- 22:47Tony D.: We don't know the storyline.
- 22:48Tony D.: That's my problem.
- 22:49Tony D.: I don't know about 10 years ago, the, not the immortals, it was.
- 22:51Tony D.: I forgot, I forgot.
- 22:53Tony D.: They've been pushing the sexuality of characters on a lot of movies over the past few years.
- 22:56Carmen Lezeth: Are you?
- 22:56Tony D.: sure, yes.
- 22:58Carmen Lezeth: Or are they just letting you know to let other people look at?
- 23:00Carmen Lezeth: I'm thinking of what was the Disney movie that just came out with that beautiful young woman that was black and they all freaked out because she's a little mermaid Little mermaid.
- 23:07Carmen Lezeth: All she was was black and they were freaking out about it.
- 23:10Carmen Lezeth: You know, they can't do this whatever.
- 23:11Carmen Lezeth: So I mean, were they pushing her to be like that?
- 23:14Carmen Lezeth: The character has to be black, or did they just say this is the new what we're seeing, little mermaid?
- 23:18Rick Costa: Oh, didn't they do that with Cinderella?
- 23:21Carmen Lezeth: Was it with me?
- 23:22Rick Costa: No, no, Brandy.
- 23:23Rick Costa: Brandy was Cinderella.
- 23:24Carmen Lezeth: Brandy, and then and then, whitney was the, the wicked witch or I mean like so are they really pushing the sexuality, or are they just letting you know that this character is gay or whatever?
- 23:35Carmen Lezeth: Still letting you know, yeah, no, but why would that be bad?
- 23:37Carmen Lezeth: Wouldn't that be good, in case there's someone?
- 23:39Carmen Lezeth: Else out there there are people who are still against the differences of sexuality in society right, but aren't there people out there who are worried about, who feel Osterized because they're not part of the conversation and they're not welcome?
- 23:49Tony D.: So is it time that we can maybe change that and be more inclusive and not they're trying to change it to where it can be discussed and the emphasis behind a lot of the conversations have been there are people who are living this way, feeling this way or even want to express themselves this way, who are not represented in Hollywood, and that's why it's being talked about, discussed.
- 24:05Tony D.: That's been said.
- 24:06Carmen Lezeth: I love when it's bad stuff.
- 24:07Carmen Lezeth: Everybody wants to blame Hollywood.
- 24:08Carmen Lezeth: In Hollywood, it's Hollywood, it's okay.
- 24:11Carmen Lezeth: I'm just messing with you.
- 24:16Carmen Lezeth: Hollywood under the bus.
- 24:17Carmen Lezeth: Hollywood is always trying to push the limit.
- 24:21Carmen Lezeth: It's always Hollywood is trying to push the limit.
- 24:24Tony D.: I'm not mad because once again we do have people with these characteristics, orientations in society who are not properly represented.
- 24:30Tony D.: They're correct, but you had the old fashioned folks who don't want to see it in here and did it was complaining.
- 24:34Tony D.: Is it old fashioned?
- 24:35Tony D.: Is that the right word?
- 24:36Tony D.: Yes, old fashioned folks don't want to see homosexual out there.
- 24:38Tony D.: Let's just throw it out there.
- 24:39Carmen Lezeth: Okay, wait, wait, but you said see homosexual.
- 24:41Carmen Lezeth: See that that's where I want to just play with this a little bit.
- 24:43Carmen Lezeth: Are you actually seeing a homosexual act, or are they just saying this character is Whatever?
- 24:50Tony D.: they're putting in people's heads.
- 24:51Tony D.: You don't even have to make people aware.
- 24:53Tony D.: Yes.
- 24:54Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I think.
- 24:55Carmen Lezeth: I think curiosity and being smart and being open-minded is what we all wish to be.
- 24:59Carmen Lezeth: Am I off my rocker or?
- 25:01Tony D.: Yeah, not entirely, and I'm being serious, because any and every aspect of humanity needs to be represented In all these movies tv's shows.
- 25:11Tony D.: Honestly, they have to be.
- 25:12Tony D.: People have a problem with a lot of the recent superhero movies based on Asian descent.
- 25:16Tony D.: People have a problem with a lot of movies.
- 25:18Tony D.: Back in the day when they had black characters of away characters, you got to realize these people are in society y'all.
- 25:22Tony D.: They're deserved to be represented.
- 25:24Tony D.: They deserve their civil liberties, all of that.
- 25:25Tony D.: They have the same race to be around here and to make money and to be popular the same way everybody else does.
- 25:31Carmen Lezeth: Can I also add this?
- 25:32Carmen Lezeth: I think you're absolutely right, but the other part of it too, that I think is aren't we better people when we have more people around us who are different and not like us?
- 25:39Tony D.: We're supposed.
- 25:41Carmen Lezeth: Oh, that's a conversation we're supposed to be but what do you mean we're supposed to be?
- 25:43Carmen Lezeth: I Love meeting people who are different, who inspire me, who are smart to have a different point of view, who teach me something All the time.
- 25:51Carmen Lezeth: I think that's what makes me a better human being.
- 25:54Tony D.: I've enjoyed that in the years, the most previous year that I've been on the internet talking to people from all over the world With different aspects, just like you said, and Rick, you know, is that going to talk about.
- 26:03Tony D.: I got a kick out of that On every time we talk to somebody from somewhere else who either had a different aspect, gave me a different vision on some.
- 26:09Tony D.: All of that.
- 26:10Tony D.: I thought one thing well, I thought this, oh, that's interesting.
- 26:12Tony D.: Well, they may be this, okay, I didn't think about that.
- 26:14Tony D.: All of those different conversations are phenomenal.
- 26:16Tony D.: I agree with you 100%.
- 26:17Carmen Lezeth: So you're okay, then, with some of these characters being of different sexual orientation, different ethnicities, different heights, weights, whatever.
- 26:27Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I guess if you're a superhero, you probably need to be in some type of shape or whatever, but maybe not, I don't know.
- 26:33Carmen Lezeth: But you're okay with them changing up the little mermaid to be black instead?
- 26:38Tony D.: of.
- 26:39Carmen Lezeth: Of course not.
- 26:42Tony D.: Well, the kicker was everybody wants.
- 26:43Tony D.: When you're an actor and I had to learn this a while ago when you're an actor, you have to play different types of roles.
- 26:48Tony D.: I get it.
- 26:49Tony D.: There was a big old stink about a black woman playing a little mermaid because the story had a little white girl but.
- 26:55Carmen Lezeth: But the story is not.
- 26:56Carmen Lezeth: It's not real.
- 26:57Carmen Lezeth: A mermaid doesn't really exist.
- 27:02Carmen Lezeth: So it was just and actually beautiful.
- 27:05Carmen Lezeth: I mean, she's stunningly and she was like the perfect little.
- 27:10Rick Costa: I'm reimagining.
- 27:11Rick Costa: What's wrong with the reimagining of a story?
- 27:13Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, and also reimagining in a way that, again, I think, enhances the story because it makes us better people when we have differences around us and I don't know, I feel like we get stuck in racial issues because we don't want to talk about racial issues or gender issues or whatever, and I'm kind of trying to change that up a bit.
- 27:30Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 27:31Carmen Lezeth: I'm kind of trying to come Well, no, no, because it doesn't all have to be angst.
- 27:37Rick Costa: Now.
- 27:37Tony D.: I got another twist.
- 27:39Rick Costa: And this is again on the same cartoon, x-men 97.
- 27:42Rick Costa: So now Whoever's in charge is saying if the character is asian, they want an asian voice actor.
- 27:49Rick Costa: They want to what?
- 27:51Carmen Lezeth: A what?
- 27:52Rick Costa: like two oh, a voice, a voice over Is one of the characters and she's asian.
- 27:55Rick Costa: So like okay, the voice.
- 27:57Rick Costa: The person that does the voice, they have to be an actual asian person.
- 27:59Rick Costa: Okay, well, now you're going down the rabbit hole of dumbass people, but because this is what I'm saying.
- 28:03Carmen Lezeth: I don't know because, because here's a voice, a voice over actor is going to do a voice that they need to do for the character.
- 28:09Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 28:10Carmen Lezeth: So, and I don't think it matters.
- 28:12Carmen Lezeth: But, um, and I know you really want to talk about that show, I can tail, but we're not talking about it because I don't know it.
- 28:16Carmen Lezeth: So this is the first part, we get to talk.
- 28:18Carmen Lezeth: Uh, jeffrey just said I loved the new mermaid.
- 28:21Carmen Lezeth: Is that the?
- 28:22Carmen Lezeth: Is that what it was called?
- 28:23Tony D.: It was uh, oh the little mermaid, a little mermaid.
- 28:25Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, yeah, I saw it.
- 28:26Carmen Lezeth: It's not my thing, and I know Cynthia wants to shoot me because I just I don't.
- 28:30Carmen Lezeth: I mean, I love these shows, but I don't, you know, I don't even think I saw them when I was little.
- 28:34Carmen Lezeth: It wasn't my thing.
- 28:35Tony D.: Disney stuff but I saw the one of the 90s.
- 28:37Tony D.: It was, it was a trip, it was pretty good.
- 28:39Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 28:39Carmen Lezeth: Oh, the original, you mean they.
- 28:41Tony D.: They didn't animate in one of the 90s.
- 28:42Tony D.: It was pretty good.
- 28:43Tony D.: I think it was the other night.
- 28:43Tony D.: It might have been 2000 under the sea.
- 28:45Tony D.: Under the sea, the crab was killed me, the 90s isn't the original one.
- 28:51Carmen Lezeth: The original one is like in the 70s.
- 28:54Tony D.: That's why I said I saw the one in the 90s.
- 28:55Carmen Lezeth: I don't know.
- 28:55Carmen Lezeth: I feel like we're getting better at it, but every time I think we're making like two steps forward.
- 28:59Carmen Lezeth: It's like then we take six steps back and then I have to fight with white people about why they're wrong.
- 29:04Carmen Lezeth: Sorry, I have to say it, it's just I get exhausted, but I'm gonna keep the fight going because I think it helps, you know.
- 29:11Carmen Lezeth: Hey everyone, this is Carmen and I'm interjecting while we're here editing this episode.
