- 1:08Speaker 1: Tell me all the things. I'm all yours.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Anyway, for today's five Minute Friday.
- 1:13Speaker 1: As I was saying, I had put up something on
- 1:15Speaker 1: social media on my personal page yesterday and the post
- 1:18Speaker 1: was just me standing in my kitchen and the caption
- 1:22Speaker 1: was this is my week in emojis. Super simple, I know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and the emojis I used. Wow, I guess I've never
- 1:30Speaker 1: really had to say these out louds. So it's kind
- 1:32Speaker 1: of gonna be funny here, sleepy emoji, coffee gold medal,
- 1:37Speaker 1: which is supposed to symbolize me watching the Olympics, a journal, running,
- 1:41Speaker 1: showering computer, the woman with her hands up emoji. It's like,
- 1:45Speaker 1: what the hell am I doing here? Writing microphone a
- 1:48Speaker 1: mask because Hi, COVID, you're just relentless wine and then
- 1:54Speaker 1: the repeat sign.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And I asked in the caption to.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Everyone that was looking at it to put their emojis
- 2:04Speaker 1: of the day in the comments, and looking at the comments,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I started to reevaluate, maybe like my choice of emojis,
- 2:16Speaker 1: in that I was looking at what other people had
- 2:21Speaker 1: to share, and there were some things that maybe I
- 2:25Speaker 1: hadn't taken the time to think about.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Right. There were some dancing emojis, some hearts emojis.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Some one person commented with just exclusively a bunch of
- 2:33Speaker 1: hearts that I know, indicating that his life is just
- 2:36Speaker 1: full of a lot of love. Smiling emoji, something that
- 2:40Speaker 1: I completely overlooked. Heart in the eyes emojis, family emojis,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I don't have a baby, but baby emojis, American pride,
- 2:49Speaker 1: going with the Olympics, weightlifting, etc. And I have this
- 2:54Speaker 1: moment where he took a step back and I was like,
- 2:57Speaker 1: are you so focused in the grind of your day
- 3:00Speaker 1: to day that you're not appreciating and realizing so much
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the goodness that is going on around you.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's not lost on me that I have so much
- 3:11Speaker 2: love in my life. I actually had a.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Really awesome week seeing some friends that I haven't seen
- 3:17Speaker 1: in some time.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Last night, I had.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Pizza Friday on a Thursday, leading up to my morning
- 3:23Speaker 1: long run today with my original tripod as I call them,
- 3:27Speaker 1: my two best friends that used to live a few
- 3:30Speaker 1: blocks from me uptown before moving to Connecticut. And so
- 3:33Speaker 1: I almost needed this and it was completely unintentional what
- 3:37Speaker 1: resulted from it, But what resulted from it was me
- 3:40Speaker 1: to like take a step back and do a gut
- 3:42Speaker 1: check and do some inventory and be like, m find
- 3:46Speaker 1: the gratitude. So maybe tomorrow, if I was to write
- 3:51Speaker 1: down my emojis again, I would put down some different ones.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So my fun prompt for you this week. You can
- 4:00Speaker 1: do it in your notes app. You could do it
- 4:02Speaker 1: on my Instagram post from yesterday over at Emila Body.
- 4:05Speaker 2: What are your emojis right now?
- 4:08Speaker 1: And if you don't like perhaps the emojis that you're
- 4:11Speaker 1: putting down.
- 4:12Speaker 2: What can you do to flip that script? Again?
- 4:15Speaker 1: What are your emojis right now? Feel free to throw
- 4:17Speaker 1: them on Instagram shoot me a DM whatever you want.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And if you don't like those emojis, what can you
- 4:23Speaker 1: do to flip the script? And now I'll listen to
- 4:28Speaker 1: our question.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Hi Emily, my name's Selini and I'm starting a new
- 4:33Speaker 3: job in New York and moving to the city in
- 4:36Speaker 3: the beginning of August. And I'm really excited. But I
- 4:40Speaker 3: was wondering if you had any advice for using running
- 4:43Speaker 3: as a way to explore the city and finding new
- 4:46Speaker 3: areas to run while still staying safe. I would love
- 4:51Speaker 3: to know your advice. Thanks so much, so so.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And for you that you are making the move over
- 4:57Speaker 1: to New York. Obviously I love it. I've been here
- 4:59Speaker 1: for more than ten years and I love running around
- 5:03Speaker 1: this city. I'm obviously biased. Now I love what you
- 5:06Speaker 1: asking your question. How can I explore and stay safe?
- 5:09Speaker 1: That's really important for me. Staying safe is all about
- 5:12Speaker 1: running in well lit areas if it is before like
- 5:14Speaker 1: six fifteen or so in the morning. Although I haven't
- 5:16Speaker 1: necessarily been running that early in the pandemic. But if
- 5:19Speaker 1: it's super early, I would definitely encourage you to stay
- 5:22Speaker 1: on main roads and avenues rather than a lot of
- 5:25Speaker 1: little side streets or going to the park. On these
- 5:28Speaker 1: main roads, you'll be you know, around cars and perhaps
- 5:31Speaker 1: and perhaps other people, and that's really really important when
- 5:34Speaker 1: it comes to your safety. Also, as a newbie, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: would suggest kind of looking into the different areas that
- 5:41Speaker 1: you want to go running in.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Maybe head on over to Strava.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Over there you can check out people's roots and see
- 5:47Speaker 1: where a lot of.
- 5:48Speaker 2: The runners are getting out and logging their miles.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And lastly, new to the community, which means that now
- 5:55Speaker 1: is as good of a time as ever to look
- 5:58Speaker 1: into joining different running clubs.
- 5:59Speaker 2: By joining running.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Club you'll be in the loop with people that have
- 6:02Speaker 1: been here for quite some time, and they will certainly
- 6:05Speaker 1: have input as to where you can go, what the
- 6:08Speaker 1: right places quote unquote to go could be. And also
- 6:12Speaker 1: I mean friends, new friends, new city, all good things.
- 6:17Speaker 1: One last note on the safety thing. If you are
- 6:19Speaker 1: running around and you are total new but could be
- 6:22Speaker 1: helpful maybe just for a while to turn down the music,
- 6:26Speaker 1: turned down the podcast. Although I love that you listen
- 6:28Speaker 1: to the podcast, Just be a little extra vigilant as
- 6:31Speaker 1: you get your feet wet here in this beautiful place
- 6:35Speaker 1: that I call home and now that you do too.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I want to give a huge shout out this week
- 6:40Speaker 1: big things happening over at Hurdle dot us. That is
- 6:44Speaker 1: Hurdle's website. Huge, huge, huge shout out to Christy Evanson.
- 6:49Speaker 1: She is a Hurdler and she is my web designer.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Our new website launched yesterday. I could not be more
- 6:57Speaker 1: amped on it, excited about it, just feeling really really
- 7:01Speaker 1: recharged and invigorated to give you more content over there.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So stay tuned.
- 7:05Speaker 1: There's going to be more regular blog posts, a bunch
- 7:08Speaker 1: of good things coming that way. In addition, shout out
- 7:11Speaker 1: to Aaron Fitzimmons, she is my web developer. If anyone
- 7:13Speaker 1: is listening to this and wants connects to either of
- 7:16Speaker 1: these lovely ladies, I cannot sing their praises enough. I
- 7:20Speaker 1: would be more than happy to do just that to
- 7:23Speaker 1: connect you in this announcement. I'm also beyond delighted to
- 7:28Speaker 1: let you know that Hurdle Merch has launched, so we
- 7:31Speaker 1: are in a one week pre sale period right now.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So if you get your orders in. You will get
- 7:36Speaker 1: your order asap. It's about a month from right now
- 7:40Speaker 1: to when these items will be delivered. They are being
- 7:43Speaker 1: made to order. I do not want to be making
- 7:47Speaker 1: a lot of waste in this. So we've got dad hats,
- 7:51Speaker 1: We've got sweatshirts, We've got mugs. The dad hats say Hurdler,
- 7:55Speaker 1: the sweatshirts say Hurdle, and the mugs say another hurdle concer.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It would mean the world to me if you guys
- 8:02Speaker 1: would show your support for the show by clicking over
- 8:05Speaker 1: to buy. I'll put a link to the gear page
- 8:07Speaker 1: specifically in the show notes as well as the website.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And I'm I'm just amped that anyone would even want
- 8:14Speaker 1: to purchase something that has you know, hurdle involvement, Hurdle's
- 8:19Speaker 1: name on it, something that I have been you know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: working tirelessly on for so so long, and I'm just
- 8:26Speaker 1: so grateful for the Hurdlers and this audience and it. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I'm bad at articulating. I was literally sitting at my
- 8:33Speaker 1: desk yesterday with tears in my eyes, as I do
- 8:36Speaker 1: on the regular lately, because I'm the biggest sap of
- 8:39Speaker 1: all time. This week, I think and uh, just feeling
- 8:42Speaker 1: really humbled and grateful for this community and for the
- 8:45Speaker 1: fact that someone's gonna be walking around in a state
- 8:48Speaker 1: far away from me and maybe a foreign country.
- 8:51Speaker 2: We're in a sweatshirt. That's is hurdle, and that is
- 8:53Speaker 2: pretty frickin' awesome.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Make sure you're subscribe to the Weekly Hurdle to keep
- 8:58Speaker 1: up with me every week in your inbox. The link
- 9:01Speaker 1: to do that is in the show notes, and don't
- 9:03Speaker 1: forget you can always ask me a question by leaving

- 9:09Speaker 1: show notes as well. Another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys
