- 5:09Jennifer Davis: Or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.
- 5:13Jennifer Davis: Okay, Dan, so here's your question.
- 5:16Jennifer Davis: From 1934 to 1976, thousands of spectators lined the Samish River to watch speed base.
- 5:27Jennifer Davis: Oh God, I, I'm having like aphasia, I really have to go.
- 5:34Jennifer Davis: Okay, Dan.
- 5:35Jennifer Davis: So from 1934, all the way till 1976, thousands of spectators lined to the Samish River to watch speed boat races.
- 5:45Jennifer Davis: How many turns did the 13 mile course have?
- 5:49Jennifer Davis: Your choices are a 12 turns B 28 turns.
- 5:56Jennifer Davis: C 63 turns or D 107 turns, and your time starts now?
- 6:07Dan Schulz: I don't know what that means.
- 6:09Dan Schulz: So they had a speedboat race.
- 6:10Dan Schulz: How many turns did they have?
- 6:12Jennifer Davis: mile course.
- 6:13Jennifer Davis: Yep.
- 6:14Dan Schulz: Okay.
- 6:14Dan Schulz: Oh, that's good.
- 6:15Dan Schulz: 13 mile course.
- 6:16Dan Schulz: ah, this is simple.
- 6:18Dan Schulz: My final answer, without a doubt.
- 6:20Dan Schulz: 28 turns.
- 6:21Dan Schulz: B, I'm locked in 100% positive.
- 6:25Jennifer Davis: Well, I mean, you are very close.
- 6:27Jennifer Davis: It wasn't be, the answer is, see, 63 turns.
- 6:32Jennifer Davis: before Seafair, the Samish slew race was the event boats were hitting 80 to a hundred mile per hour on a course with 63 turns, dodging logs and bridge pilings the whole way.
- 6:45Jennifer Davis: At its peak, around 40,000 people showed up to watch from the river banks.
- 6:50Jennifer Davis: It all ended in 1976 after a boat jumped the bank and injured a University of Washington Pole vaulter.
- 6:57Jennifer Davis: Sorry, which is a very specific way for something like that to end.
- 7:02Jennifer Davis: Um, I hope the guy was okay, but I'm
- 7:04Dan Schulz: sorry.
- 7:05Dan Schulz: Was the guy in the midair
- 7:06Jennifer Davis: I just, that's what I imagined.
- 7:08Jennifer Davis: He is pole vaulting.
- 7:10Jennifer Davis: They're both, it's a mid-air collision.
- 7:12Jennifer Davis: All joking aside, the guy was fine, but it did end the race as it sounds like a pretty dangerous thing to do.
- 7:26Dan Schulz: Jennifer, what do the rumor birds, what do your little gossip birdies tell you this week?
- 7:31Jennifer Davis: So here's one that keeps popping up in conversations.
- 7:34Jennifer Davis: Apparently there's a World Cup viewing beer garden being planned somewhere near Mary Moore Park for summer 2026.
- 7:42Jennifer Davis: We're hearing outdoor screens, rotating food trucks, fire pits, the whole setup, and possibly turning it into a permanent spot if it takes off.
- 7:52Jennifer Davis: The thing is, none of that has been officially confirmed, and no one's saying exactly who's behind it.
- 7:58Jennifer Davis: So our question is, where exactly would they even put something like this?
