- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: You're listening to Mile High Insiders.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Man, just in time to break the internet, right when you think you've got to figure it out here on M.H.I.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: We'll give you curved balls.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, everybody?
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Back in the saddle again, and it feels so good.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Luke Patterson, one half of M.H.I.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: joined with me by the boss man, the president, the CEO, the founder of M.H.H., you know him, you love him from the Mile High Huddle podcast, Chad Jensen.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Chad, I guess it's
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Tom's birthday today, you only turned twenty one once, so we decided to let him out on the town.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday to one, Thomas Hall.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for joining me here tonight on M-H-I.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, dude, I'm stoked to be here.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Papa bears even checking it with the super, giving some birthday love to Tom.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Who I'm sure he'll see all this later.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Papa bear, but hope you're doing still still trending in the right direction with things and it's great to hear from you.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: We obviously
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: very much appreciate your super chat this time of year.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let me tell you, it really, really helps.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: So thank you and he's saying good evening, Broncos country.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: I've deciphered his hashtag, Luke, thirteen and four.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Plus plus plus because you go division around.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: FC Championship game Super Bowl.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what I've deduced.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't disabused me of that.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go, Broncos Super Bowl.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, David, thank you so much, Man.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: Thoughts and prayers, thinking of you.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully you were doing well.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for hanging in there with us here on this MHI.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, thirteen and four plus going deep into the playoffs and or winning a championship.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: I get goosebumps when I see that kind of stuff, man, because optimism has been renewed in Broncos Country.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: Expectation.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: In the case of the Broncos, this is a very, very solid roster, like it's hard to really find too many vulnerabilities on this roster, which is actually saying something, considering this is the third year of the Sean Peyton regime and rebuild.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: So this, the questions now aren't so much, is Botanix going to be ready as you're going to win a starting job or this depth chart or that depth chart.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's more like,
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I wrote about this, if you guys read the article today, it's more, hey, what's the unfinished business so that guys can keep their eye on the prize?
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Training camps coming up in two weeks, and that is getting guys like Zach Allen, Nick Benito.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I have my own opinion on Nick Benito, but Cortland Sutton figured out.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then the next priority beyond that is John Franklin Myers, but I genuinely doubt that anything's gonna happen.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, hold on, he's back.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, trying with edge.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Luke's back.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Just hop on dude.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Let's give it a shot.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's give it a shot.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, do I got to add you?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, man?
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Where there is a will.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: There is a way I refuse to be silenced, Chad Jensen.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: Brother.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Again, guys, really sorry for this.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm starting to worry it has something to do with my end running the stream because that's been the only common denominator of all these times people winking in and out.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: is been streams that I'm the originator of somehow.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, trying to get to the bottom of it, but I'm really sorry guys.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: We're just talking Luke about a look.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's Ralph, my dog.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I just was hanging out a couple weeks ago at the bridge of the gap showing Denver and he's he looks.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is, this is maybe your biggest fan.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: It Ralph loves you.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: He called he jokingly has been calling me when I've been subbing in for you with times like, oh, better look better looking Luke Patterson just so you have.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about that, but I've been discussing with Tom.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Why Vaughn Miller should be ranked higher than champ Bailey on Tom.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much you've been following that.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: I have, man, who?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's you're gonna get me in trouble with Tom and his birthday Ralph.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna come at him like that today on his very special day, but no, I appreciate the love, man.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you had fun at the Rock Show dude.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was on the road, but I was texting Chad before I got there during and after.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I heard it was awesome.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the thing, man, Von Miller and Champ Ailey, they definitely deserve their rifle place in Broncos history.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: One is a Super Bowl champion.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: The other is not.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: That is just the fact of the matter.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: It hurts me.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: It pains me to say that.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: about this close and those damn Seattle Seahawks did their thing.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, Thomas Hall was in the building for Super Bowl, Forty-eight.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: I know we're not trying to get after the big cat on his birthday, but I know that one's things a little bit.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: For me, Ralph, I know it's the Homer and me.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Chip Bailey's one of the best cornerbacks to ever live.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sick of seeing this debate over Richard Sherman and Darrell Revis on X on social media.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who was the best corner?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Was it
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: on Sanders and I like, I got love for Coach Prime up there and Boulder, but no, none of those guys come close to champ Bailey, twenty four.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: We know especially how good champ Bailey was here in Denver because we immediately put those expectations on Pastor Tan and look what the guy continues to accomplish at such a young age man.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: So it's split in hairs, Vaughn over champ on the list.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know man.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave that one for everyone else to fight.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: What a good fight it is.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, my personal opinion would, I would agree with you Ralph that I would Vaughan would be a little bit higher than champ on my top one hundred list, but that's only because the world championship and not just that Vaughan was part of a world championship team, but that he was like, if not the reason, one of the primary reasons that they hoisted the lumbarity of Super Bowl fifty, and that was one of the heartbreaks Luke of the champ Bailey era is
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we never got that.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: This one's for champ moment.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: He did get to play however in one Super Bowl, as you mentioned, in Super Bowl, forty eight.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, I agree with Ralph Vaughn probably over champ for me, but we're splitting hairs.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Don't you wish things were different with the way champs career?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it obviously we wish the Broncos won Super Bowl, forty eight.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: Had they did, I don't know, Super Bowl, fifty ever happens.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you learn more from your failures than you do your successes, but through
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a bad taste in my mouth that with the way champ left, right?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: He was released and then kicked it around with the Saints for a little bit.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't quite sure if he was going to make the team.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: It just was really ugly to see.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: I wish the Broncos would have transitioned him a couple years earlier and to maybe a free safety role.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was that good.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that was a bit of an insult.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you couldn't do that.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: It gets a little touchy when you get to some of these aging defensive grades and even the offensive players.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Chad, you remember with Jerry Rice,
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: was a Denver Bronco I can't believe that my dad had to take me neither one of us would ever believe it but I saw Jerry Rice wearing orange and blue it may have been for just four or five weeks to the summer but still piece of Bronco's history yeah that's crazy it is an interesting footnote last time I looked at his
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: wiki it wasn't even listed now i'm gonna i'm gonna check it out real quick and i'm gonna do it for my phone so i don't have any issues it may be i don't know if he like tried to retire before the preseason officially started it may have been one of those things where it's only as official is that it it is on his wiki two thousand five but there's the asterisk that of course stands for offseason roster only uh...
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that was a trip and, you know, in hindsight, it made sense, right?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because they knew each other, Mike Shanahan and Rice during Shanies' time, helping them win a Super Bowl that Steve Young Super Bowl.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Shanie was in on that.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, while my channel had to, right when we got to get that guy into the hall, a Tom and I are usually getting after it, too, because Tom, as you know, is one of the biggest supporters of getting these Broncos who have been overlooked for years into the Hall of Fame.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: I got to ask him, what's up with your buddies who vote on this stuff?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: Why is my channel continually
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: getting the short end of the stick.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: I know the average NFL fan will say, Luke, you're just a Homer calm down on that.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos have been getting their due as of late.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: But can we just stop and get these guys in the Hall of Fame before something happens?
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know, they've become a hundred and pass away.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so tired of seeing guys
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: not get their due, especially while they're alive.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's a moment that they should be able to celebrate with their family, the owners, the team and the fans.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Something I want to see with Mike Shannon.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's not that hundred years old.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: No way.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's got that Corinthian skin.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Look at nice and orange, silver fox now, but I need Mike Shannon and the Hall of Fame sooner rather than later.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, part of me, because his last season coaching in the league.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: So his last official association in the league was the twenty thirteen season with Washington.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so in terms of time spent outside the league to qualify for the hall, he's passed that mark a long time ago.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: Part of me can't help but wonder if it has something to do with how public his involvement with the San Francisco forty Niners has been on an unofficial scale, right?
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: going over cut ups with his son, you know, be in a sounding board for scouting.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's all kind of rumors and different things.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder how much that's hurt him, but he belongs to it.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, how many two time back to back, let alone two time.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: Superbowl winning head coaches exist.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: not many shenanigans one of them not only that dude but his I mean his record as a head coach in the league will include his time with Washington he's got a hundred and seventy and one thirty eight record so that's a point five five two plus five hundred and then his postseason record eight and six and two super bulls as a head coach look one as a coordinator
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: And not only that dude, but his whole offense, the offense that's the flavor of the day and the league, and it's been the flavor of the day for years now.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you trace it all the way back to Bill Walls, but the Mike Shanahan stamp on that with his own blocking aspect and all that, that's the flavor of the day dude.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, can you tell the story of the NFL without Mike Shanahan?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's incredible.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that's really interesting.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: You mentioned that about Mike potentially being punished if you will for his
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: alleged or lack of involvement or involvement, whatever we got to say with this San Francisco, Forty Niners, it's something I haven't thought of, but you're exactly right, politics exists in the NFL in sports in every aspect of the world.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know, man, it's one of those things where I'd rather see it sooner.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: than later.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seventy two years old, I want this man to be able to enjoy it.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: I want him to hang his hat on this.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: I want him to celebrate with the fans.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: I want, can you imagine?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've all been to some sort of these events.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you've made it your way to Canton yet.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: I have not, but I can only imagine, man.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's like one of those moments where you get a little emotional.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: You get a little choked up when you see coach up there.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this was the man I grew up watching Denver Broncos football and
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: I got a soft spot in my heart for Kyle because of Mike and John Lynch and the Broncos connections and you're right you cannot write the history of the modern day NFL without the shenanigans without the Gary Kubiax you could go on and on down the line and Sean Peyton is part of that history as well right couple Eastern Illinois guys if memory serves right and I think Tony Ramos in that as well so it's cool to see the Broncos yeah he's the other one
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's cool to see that the Broncos have minted some fences in terms of their alumni, and I know they're getting ready to have what, back together weekend, Saturday, July, twenty-six.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Keep your eyes open down there, folks.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know the Broncos got some open training camps, thirteen practices open to the public.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: You never know who the alumni are that are walking around there.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes those guys want you to know who they are, they're very flashy and you'll know.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Other times,
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: You've been on the bird.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: I've been on the bird.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: You never know who you're going to be rubbing elbows with.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Keep your eyes open up there for some stars at Broncos training camp.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy how so this year in case you guys missed it, the Broncos, as always, they're not charging for fans to get into training camp to tickets to get in or free, but this year because of renovations and things still happening on the new facility that they're building there for fans safety.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: They're limiting the daily attendance to only eight hundred tickets.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, we're talking back during the Peyton Manning Day's Luke, like you'd have three, four, thousand fans out there on the berm and it was like, man, the energy was wild, but this year it's very limited.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: So they made them available.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was last Wednesday.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty sure it was either last Tuesday or last Wednesday.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: They were gone by lunchtime because, you know,
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: They had certain strictures of how many to each person, this, that and the other season.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Take a hold, there's got first dibs, yada yada, long gone, they're long gone.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully you guys got a chance to jump on some of those free tickets because they're going to be hard to come by.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's wild how it goes, man.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like last year I had my own conspiracy theory.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, shocker, right?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Sean Payton.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Sean didn't want.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: guys and gals out there as many eyes as he could he wanted to control that narrative in my opinion is what's the easiest way to do that fire code how do I know that used to work for the fire department got a man or just retired my dad's birthday today as well happy birthday Troy Patterson you have a birthday yeah yeah very special day here in the Patterson family and on mh i in the mh i in the mh i insiders family
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so yeah, I mean, it's just kind of interesting when you were talking Mike Shanahan, right?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Mike Shanahan, Sean Payton, I think they're kind of cut from the same cloth.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think Sean is equally as competitive as Mike.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: I also think with that comes paranoia.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Mike Shanahan, we all know the stories, right, of the locker room being bugs, cameras around the facility.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying Sean's doing those type of things, but I got in trouble out there in training camp a couple years ago for posting a video of Garrett Bulls getting burned.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: And during teen period and got quickly chastised by Broncos PR immediately and I'm like, oh yeah, Sean's watching and it's just kind of interesting man and did it bother me absolutely not.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I am ready for winning.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying the Broncos are cheating or doing anything crazy out there, but
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be willing to check these boxes and I know that was a concern when I talked to Broncos alumni out there a couple of years ago.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, hey, what's stopping a scout from getting one of these open to the practice tickets for free for fans of AFC West Division rival and coming out here and seeing what's going on.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: If I can take video
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: So good day.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think there's a little bit of gamesmanship to capping some of the numbers of these practices.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Again, thirteen open practices, the Walton Pender Ownership Group.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're not cheap.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: They're not charging fans or anything like that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't Cleveland.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't Cincinnati.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I know you're super excited.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Rookie's report wins day.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: July, sixteenth.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: The vets just a few days after on the twenty second.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: We are on the cusp of twenty twenty five Broncos training camp.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's off to the races.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Let the games begin.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot wait.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: We got the wrong checking in.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, brother?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: Great to see you.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for being here tonight, my brother.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Really nice seeing you.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: The rock and then let me see here.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Ralph just following up on his comment.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: One just, you know, the Vaughn versus Champ thing.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: One is a Super Bowl MVP.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: I love champ and I'm not taking anything away from his legend.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's like you said we're talking about degrees here.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's working.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Number twenty four right now for the Broncos.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty four is.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's just, let me take a look, dude.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm trying to pull it up because it's a damn shame.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: Whoever's wearing it doesn't deserve the wear it.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: What I'm trying to say is that number needs to be retired.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's wearing it.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure it's vacant.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Twenty three and twenty five.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: We know how to guess to me battle for running back position on this team this summer.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you're right.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll see what he has to do, Blake Watson there at twenty five.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of like it.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: There isn't a twenty four right now because it shouldn't be a champ, Bailey.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Chad, I could remember and Tom and I talk about this a lot.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was upset.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was a naive kid who did know what the hell I was talking about.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: We got rid of Clinton, portus for a corner back.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: And my dad went there like, boy.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You've got a lot to learn and sure enough, man.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Chia and Bailey has turned out to be one of my favorite Denver Broncos of all time.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: So much so I want his number retired.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'll start the petition today.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Did I'll never forget?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: I was utterly crushed because dude, part of it wasn't just like a really good running back.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: This was a guy who in his two years in Denver was on a historic pace dude.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like at the time, and I'm sure this has changed.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Since then, but he became one of only three running backs.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is, of course, two thousand end of the two thousand three season.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: He had become one of only three running backs in NFL history to rush for fifteen hundred yards in each of his first two seasons.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Joining Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson and at the time, Edger and James.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm not certain who else may have joined that rare club, but dude, when he was, uh, and not just the yardage dude to touchdown.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was fourteen fifteen every season, and that was during a period when you had guys like Lydane and Thomas and dude drop in twenty eight twenty nine thirty touchdown.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: So you had, it was an arms race, dude.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: You had to keep up.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: And they were thinking different though, they were thinking Luke that, hey, we're going to instead of fight fire with fire, we're going to bring in a defensive whiz and we're going to shut down your passing game.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember his first couple of starts, but specifically, champ Bailey's first game as a Bronco, Shanahan had him run in motion on offense, running around a little bit as a receiver, but that quickly kind of went by the wayside.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a champ would beg for those opportunities, at least that's what I've read, right, throughout Broncos history.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just so funny now that we're talking about champ Bailey, because you're exactly right.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: I remember Clinton Portis was giving L. T. LaDani and Tomlinson run for his money.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Priest Holmes was having an MVP caliber season early in the two thousands as well for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's crazy the way things work out.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Boss Bailey spent some time as brother to
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think a season or two here.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think during the Josh McDaniels era, he was outside linebacker if memory serves.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, nine, maybe.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, champ and boss Bailey.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Another little piece of rockers history, man.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: But how great is it now that the Broncos continue to stack up the corner back position.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we talk about the raining.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: Defensive player of the year in Mr. Pat Sertan, the second and how well he is continuing his young career into twenty twenty five.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: What did the Broncos do?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: They doubled down with their corners.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: I say, you know what?
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to kick this kid out of Texas today, Baron.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Chad, I know we're all excited.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: We've all had a little moments to think about it from the NFL draft.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think today, bearance expectations are, at least from Broncos country, because Broncos country better see the next PS two out there or something a little bit close, especially if Sean Peyton just decided to swing for the fences at number twenty and go defense.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: When I was screaming, trade up, go get your guy, he's right there, boys, he stayed at, I wanted genty so bad, Chad, as you know, and then
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: me fallers out there reporting earlier this week.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Broncos considered going top ten, but it was just too expensive.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: What is so special about today, Baron, to Sean Payton?
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Well, according to the Broncos, they had him rated as a top ten player.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Foley did not expect him to still be on the board.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think if he's gone, you know, that probably ends up being one of the running backs or one of the next rated wide receivers, but
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: The thing about there and that makes him so interesting, you got to remember in an NCAA and FBS where you had a Travis Hunter at Cornerback, just working miracles and doing all kinds of stuff.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was Barron, who was named the best defensive back in the nation, getting the Jim Thorpe Award.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it's five eleven.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's actually a little bit bigger than he looks in terms of length.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: And dude, he can do it all.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: He can play boundary.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: He can play nickel.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: He could play safety if you wanted him to, but Sean Payton's already eliminated that publicly.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see if it's true.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the other aspect is he brings an actual ball hawk ability to the table, which the Broncos need in that secondary.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the pass rush last year with great, right?
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Sixty three sacs.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: You'll lead the NFL.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: You said a franchise director over and over.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: Where the Sam Hill worked, how did that translate in the takeaway game?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not as much as you'd like it to.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: Um, a lot of that is just kind of luck at the draw cookie crumbles a certain way.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's the way it goes, but Baron definitely gives you a better upside to take the ball away.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: So there's, there's a lot he brings to the table plus he's super smart, high character guy, high football like you guy like team captain.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was, that's been one of the hallmarks of Sean Peyton era Broncos draft picks is
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Team captains, footballs, everything to them, eat, sleep, breathe at all.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, the talents got to be commensurate.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: And in Barron's case, it absolutely is.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's just it.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you mentioned the past rush.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, without the past rush, how good is your coverage without, you know, decent coverage.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: How good is your past rush when one of those units can't show up on one play.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta make up for that.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really impressed going back and looking at some of Baron's game tape now that he's been here.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is a player I didn't even have on the Broncos radar to be completely honest with you.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I have no idea what Sean Peyton wants in the NFL draft.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea what George Peyton wants in the NFL draft.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: That is fairly certain after watching what these guys continue to do.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: They play it pretty close to the vest.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Kathy, what is up, Kathy?
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for hitting up M.A.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: on Wednesday night with Chad and I, we really, really appreciate you.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, guys?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is a rare combo and I love it.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, Chad and I were just talking about this last night.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: I've been begging him from some of his precious time.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: His time is very, very precious as is everyone.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's why we appreciate everybody for tuning in.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: The super chats are welcome.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Your time is even more appreciated.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much and film a go-offland.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Come and write back in.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: over on Facebook.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: Good evening, Chad, Luke, and Dick and Scott.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, guys, interesting question brought this up on an earlier pod with love your opinions.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: Broncos defense, Broncos offense, who wins?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good question, dude, because you think about it last year, who would have guessed not too many people, even those with the orn just of orange colored glasses that
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: uh... bronco offense quarterback by a rookie bonix though he was what finish as a top ten scoring team in the NFL are you kidding me like i wasn't expecting that but thus it was and then the bronco's finished top ten thir in pouring yards yes scoring was third yards was like seven thir something like that it's easier for me to call him a top ten defense but they were the third ranked scoring defense so
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a tough one.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm going to air on the side of the quarterback though.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to trust on the quarterback, even though people might be going, hey, no, what are you talking about?
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: You got multiple all pros on defense.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: They upgraded with Greenland.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: They brought in who Funga.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, dude, it's the defense.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, bow next.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the reports coming out this time around in OTA's dude, like he's a dog.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's riding guys.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's jogging with his teammates on the other side of the ball in a competitively.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, fiery way not in any kind of I'm being a whole kind of this is getting crazy is he getting crazy eyes to anybody I like the Raiders.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we loved both because both so calm cool and collected we didn't really know how to react to when Bogotte fired up right I don't know about you Chad.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was thrilled to see him yelling at Sean Peyton the other day.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like finally these two are the same guy.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: They are so locked in and competitive that they had a moment.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: What do guys do?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: We L. We raise our voice right wrong or indifferent.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's who we are.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: human beings I shouldn't even just limit that to guys man you're passionate about something you've gotten emotion it's raw let it go everyone's at a while assuming it's not inappropriate assuming it's not gonna hurt anybody let it go dude and I absolutely love
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: to see Bonax fired up.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to see what he can bring here.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: Phil, I will tell you this.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: I see where you're going, right?
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is a kind of almost like a fun fantasy question.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Broncos offense versus Broncos defense.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna tell you for training camp, it's gonna be Broncos defense.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because the defense has an idea of what the offense is gonna do, right?
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: They're picking up tells all off season.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody knows each other better than these teammates in summer.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I will also say this, training camp in the plays,
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: They're all tailored to the offense.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: So while the defense may get the upper hand, the offense should have the advantage, at least on paper.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's going to be touching Botanix in training camp if they do.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: God help you, Sean, it's going to rip you a new one.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: But these guys understand, this is Botanix's team.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to see wide receivers versus cornerbacks.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: What does a Portland Sutton look like against a young guy like today, Baron?
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Who's Pastor Tan on a lock on a Devon Valley?
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people in the comment section.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, what's going on with Troy Franklin?
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on with Devon Valley?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the quote, Gary Kubiak, we are fixing to find out.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I want to know what kind of offseason these guys have had.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: Marvin MEMS, the expectation is there for good old marvelous Marvin.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's a all pro in a pro bowl or for crying out loud, but who are the other wide receivers that are going to step up?
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: They've got the best competition they could face in Pastor Tan, Judea Baron.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also wondering, what does this mean for Riley Moss, Judea Baron?
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: Has that little fire under Riley Moss?
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't all remember the Cincinnati Bengals game where he got picked on.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: It happens there every corner back.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still a Riley Moss guy.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I know you are too chat, but I think there's going to be a lot of competitive juices flowing down there.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: You may get a little wide receiver DB dust up.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: I know we stay locked onto the online and the D line.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys are usually the one scrapping.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be surprised if we see wide receivers and cornerbacks go at it this summer.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and you've just you've got so many
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Young wide outs, just.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: champion at the bit dude, like ready to take that next step.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's super competitive in the room.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: So if they're competing amongst themselves, that's going to come out in the wash when they're out there going seven on seven, eleven on eleven.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: Bigger.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's also a really fierce DB room as you were saying, man, and I am still huge, huge, Riley Mosky.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm still reminded of when the Broncos first drafted him out of Iowa, he and of course, Mims, they were the top two picks that year.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't have first round pick in twenty twenty three.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the first rookie many camp.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're talking to Marvin Mims trying to get a little information on him and they start asking them about Riley Moss.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: What are your thoughts?
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you've been out there a couple days with Moss.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, you know, I love him.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's great, but out on the field, he's definitely the kind of DB that likes to
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: let you know he's there, make you feel him a little bit.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: So little extra love and touching this and that and the other after the, you know, bump in the after the whistle, walk back to your respective hotels, he might like, you know, whatever.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's Riley Moss.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: He likes to keep it going and dude, last year, that defense, that passing defense was humming.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Then he goes down and you're surrendering six hundred million yards to James Winston on Monday night football
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: went downhill from there pretty quickly.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I think people who are, and you know what, I've been in this business long enough to have plenty of freezing cold takes, okay?
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I've also been in long enough to know kind of a little bit more what I'm talking about.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see barren supplanting moss.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: I see barren supplanting McMillan, at least in the early going.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there's a chance that barren starts over moss when they're in their base base, but Riley Moss
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Sir, Tan, that's your boundary.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: Nickel is going to be a day bearer.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's see Pat Bryant, too, right?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I know people are excited.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: You are I am Tom's curious about Pat Bryant.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos new wide receiver, third round pick out of Illinois, if I'm not mistaken.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody got after him because he ran a slow forty, right?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: But this guy is route running is pretty decent.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: He catches the ball at its highest points.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's a physical wide receiver.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: What is Pat Bryant versus today, bearer and look like?
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's some rookie on rookie crime.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: I know you've got a first round or an a third rounder, but get used to it, boys.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be lining up against each other.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that may be a little bit more of a even measuring stick to start camp.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're going to see the vets start tee and off on some of these guys.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to see which rookies want to take it to the vets.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, Sean Peyton has no problem playing rookies starting
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: Rotating.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter to Sean.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I think that's his expectation.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: When you come on this football team, you better be prepared.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: You better know what I'm demanding.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you better be ready to put out for me.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he expects of the rookies and watching what Bow next did last year.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: Devon Bailey, Troy Franklin, nice rookies season.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose, but we need to see more.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: How about Jonah Ellis?
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is a past rusher that had us
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: stellar rookie season.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Bloodlines, right?
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about champ Bayley, Shannon, everybody else.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: His father former Broncos chaplain and also Broncos player for a certain time.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know, man, there's a lot of optimism among the youth.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that's finally exciting because it felt like for so long, Chad, it was just let's bring in these vets.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: Let's kick the can down the road and hope for the best.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos have finally been adding to their drafts.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: So much so that it's time to pay some players.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: We just don't know who's going to get paid first.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Nick Bonito, Zach Allen's already got a couple bags, right?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: Where do we go there?
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Cortland Sutton seems like we're talking about his contract every single summer.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: So these are big questions that remain unanswered to read about it over at Mahahahuddle.com.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, look, we could break the training camp stuff down into the micro level and we're going to continue.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure to do that on the podcast, especially leading up to camp.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: But to me, the biggest unanswered questions that when it comes to unfinished business, because these rosters matter, it's hard to find a weak spot on this roster.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: Again, and this is what I was trying to say when we started getting interrupted with the
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: technical stuff earlier in the show right at the beginning, uh, is that it's just the unfinished business side of things.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the unanswered question really to me is just, when are you going to get on this so that the players in question, which are to a man, each key guys, so they can focus on the task at hand and play ball.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: And to me, it starts with Zach Allen, then Portland Sutton, Nick Benito and I'd love your opinion on this Luke.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: We might be divided on it.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: I believe that what we saw from Nick Benito last year is the new status quo for him like he turned a corner and locked something.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's just developing quite nicely, but
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not even my money.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: If I were in that room, I'd want to see him for like a quarter of the season.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Make sure that it wasn't a one year wonder.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: I would have these big concerns in my head going, I don't want to pay him and then all of a sudden we look like fools because he's bearing Browning all over again, a reverse back to pre twenty twenty four.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I would work with his agent.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'd start doing it now.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'd get the framework in place.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd tell him that, okay, let us see it a little bit.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll do one just like your part, just like Jonathan Cooper in season extension.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let us see it a little bit.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: Give us a little assurance.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: But then the argument to that look that I hear is, oh, well, every day that you procrastinate on Bonito, his price just goes up in the market value blah, blah, blah.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but that pales in comparison to the tectonic franchise potentially, altering risk of paying a guy, huge multi-hundred million dollar plus contract.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: that falls flat on his face and you don't get a return on that.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather pay perhaps possibly an extra little maybe a million here of two million there.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever to have that piece of mind.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's me.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: What was the name?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm totally spacing on it.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: The George Peyton overpaid that Dallas Cowboys Eddresher any barely.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we got some PTSD from Randy Gregory.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: All right, if you're George Peyton and if you're the Broncos and just in general, let's talk about overpaying past wrestlers since Vaughn Miller was here.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: Bradley Chub, how about that one, right?
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's tough to find these guys.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you, man.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: I need to see more from Nick Benito and Tom and I like to yell at each other over this topic on a weekly basis.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm going to say this, Jonathan Cooper's my guy.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know that I loved him since the senior bull.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I was super pumped to see Jonathan Cooper get
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: a deal done early and it feels like a value deal right because he's getting he got what he wanted during the season and it didn't cost y'all that much if you're the franchise.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see more consistency with Nick Benito.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is not disrespect.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is what it is.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember Nick Benito having much of an impact against the Buffalo bills when the Broncos needed him the most.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: Hell, I don't remember the Broncos defense.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: having much of an impact.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: The offense was atrocious.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happens.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Thirty-one to seven.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: Your first playoff game.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm with you, Chad.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: I need to see more out of Nick Bonito.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Zach Allen, my Lord.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: He had himself a season last year.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to see.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would like to see him get paid.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: He was arguably one of the MVP's on that defense as well.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Think about everybody else's sex.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then think of Zach Allen.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: All-all, Derek Wolf, Vaughan Miller.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ralph Brace, girl, circling back around over on Facebook.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe tonight we go with Chad Jensen and the better looking Zach all off season.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: We've been shaking our heads at pro football focus and I cannot wait for this.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: Number one defense and top twelve offense to embarrass PFF Chad
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Man, we're all human beings.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: We all have preferences.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: I know I use PFF when it works for me.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: You use PFF when it works for you.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: There are those that live and die by stats without any sort of context.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: Chad, they're not Chad.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: Thomas has a really interesting project up right now.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: Gridironintelligence.com.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, he just used it on one of his newest articles up at Mile High Huddle today.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, the guy.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just like Chad, everybody else.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: working on their birthday.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Go read why the Broncos tied in room.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little bit different this year in terms of the impact and how Sean Peyton wants to use it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: PFF, man.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's tough.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a nice resource.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: I know we love them when we've got the Broncos rated high and we hate them when they don't have the Broncos on the list at all.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's that time of year Ralph.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm with you, man.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: If it's time for the Broncos to have people eat crow.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: PFF could just be another one on the list.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see where the Broncos go in the AFC West in twenty twenty five remember you have three playoff teams the Los Angeles charters the Denver Broncos and of course the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: What are those damn raiders up to in the desert out there?
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know Pete Carroll.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_01]: Gino Smith getting in a little bit of offseason trope.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like I don't know what's going on in Las Vegas.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: I've got my eyes on those raiders.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I can't stand them.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but no, man.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's really make the NFL.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know how you do that?
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: You go deep in the playoffs and you ruin other franchises day.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, it is weird.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: When I first started MHH, like, eleven years ago, I can't even remember how old I am.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, but I'm pretty sure it's about eleven years ago.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: PFF was kind of a new thing.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it was beginning to grow a little bit of cloud.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: We started using it from an editorial perspective.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: I went and got a subscription, started using the grades, and put them out each week, actually, after each game.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: And at the time, so this would have been maybe a couple years now into MHH yet, like the twenty-fifteen era Broncos, like the fourteen-fifteen.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just say at the Peyton Manning era Broncos, I would get every week, DMs, texts, Broncos, different players, wanting to know what their PFF game grade was.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I started going.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: What the hell's happening here?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Cut to a couple of years go by and Luke PFF became part of the tapestry that they can use for negotiating like probals, all pros.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the highest.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a top five player at my position on PFF.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: And for a time there, there was always questions on their grading system.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's a very very mercurial.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: They don't talk about it.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: Beyond that, their advanced statistics have always been very helpful and informative and especially for guys like us, the cover, the lead cover, the individual team like the Broncos, it can be great.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: But when or I would say it's happened to look like say over the last five years of PFF, when they got big time into the whole news aggregation king, when they wanted all the blogs and all the sites out there, citing them left and right, they put out this ranking, that ranking, this list, that list,
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: It became pretty clear pretty quickly that not too many people at PFF were very fond of the Denver Broncos and I think some of the hatred that existed for Sean Peyton.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm talking about the way he's kind of known for treating media during his time in New Orleans and during his time in Denver.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: Combined, I'm about to serve this back to you.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: Combined with the whole bounty gate thing.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of people that still hold the grudge against him over that.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that maybe has intensified things, but due to the Broncos made all of those guys and Peyton, Nick's all of them made PFFs and outfits like them look like utter out of their mind in competent fools and I don't expect it to look bottom line to be any different this year.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, I find it fascinating how the times have changed.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: Something tells me we're not going to be getting a DM from Botanix saying, Hey, man, can you stick up for me a little bit more with PFF on my rating?
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Homey gives it you know what.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I'm here for, man.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's a nice measuring stick.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's a nice resource.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Again, there are those who live and die by it.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's cool.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: We use a lot of different resources and we have so many different diverse philosophies within our team.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: here on my high huddle on how we watch film.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: Who we listen to?
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Who we watch?
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's so many different resources.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: I would challenge anyone out there on any other publication.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think we have the most diverse set of writers that you could possibly get.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: Our styles are also different.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you don't have to put a name on it.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: You could tell that these two articles are completely different based on who the author is.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that we really pride ourselves on here on my model.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Something I'm very grateful to be a part of because if all you're regurgitating is one person's information, I'll just go listen to them.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, I use PFF, you use PFF.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: We use it as a staff.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's a nice measuring stick.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ready to have PFF eats them.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: Crow, Glenn Ashley, what's up, Glenn?
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Over on Facebook, man.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you turning into MHI with Chad and yours truly this evening.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: Good morning, Chad and Luke.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: Broncos Country, what's up?
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: Happy hump day.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: Extend Zach Allen now.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: You let Nick Bonito prove himself for the first four to five games.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: Hashtag MHH for life, Denver Broncos for life, because this is a state of being.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: Glenn, I serve this back to you, Chad and Broncos Country.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: What's in the Benito's mentality right now?
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's easy for us to say, Aaron, say, yeah, go ahead and prove it.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_01]: I put myself in Nick Benito's shoes.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: A lot can happen in between workouts before training camp, let alone training camp, the preseason and the first four to five games I'm talking about injuries.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what kind of assurances do you think Nick Benito and his agent are looking for?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if these conversations have started because it doesn't seem like Nick Benito's disgruntled.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'd have to go check his ex account to truly know.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, man.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think if Nick Bonita was super unhappy, if he was frustrated, if he was telling the Broncos the kick rocks, we would all know about it.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: We would all be reporting about it on this fight with wage on, especially here on Wednesday nights between Tom and I, between you and Zack, do you pay him now or don't you?
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just think if your Nick Bonita, man, these conversations have to have been started because he doesn't appear to be disgruntled, at least for now.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the last thing we heard on the subject was, um,
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: right after the draft or no right before the draft might have been the owner's meetings George Payton saying yeah hey all that stuff as far as these extensions y'all keep asking me about that's after the draft stuff okay so I got to assume that in the case of all of them including John Franklin Myers the conversations have been had in Franklin Myers case it's probably a case of sorry dude we'll we'll take a look at you after the season but in the case of Nick Benito yeah
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think it's encouraging, let's get a framework in place, let's start talking about what it would look like.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: And again, guys, I could be totally wrong.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: The Broncos might have seen enough to go, wow, we needed like the eventual successor to Von Miller, maybe we have not saying that Benitos on that level, but a true
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: Tier one, top tier edge presence, past rushing presence.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the Broncos are head over hills.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you listen to what George Peyton had to say about Benito at the combine.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it sounds like that's at least he's saying those type of things.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: But when the rubber meets the road,
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: George Peyton is actually a pragmatist and the latest evidence of that Luke was that piece, the came out last week detailing the notes from Greg Panner during the Russell Wilson extension negotiations right after the trade.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: Panner is expressing and his notes misgivings about paying him now.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: Why not wait because he had two years left on his deal.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then George Peyton going to Russell Wilson who had asked for seven years, three hundred fifty million fully guaranteed.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: He said that, no, it's a non-starter.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to happen.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: So Peyton can be a pragmatic guy in the case of Russell Wilson, Luke back then.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to keep him happy.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: He just gave up an arm in a leg to acquire him.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to keep him happy, but he had to tell him the truth.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Look, that ain't happening right now.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let's figure out, you know, something else will come to the table on a different deal.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: In the case of Nick Benito, though, hey, you're a big boy in terms of what's his mindset?
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: Look, dude, you got cashews that clank.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: You made it this far.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: You're an all-pro, you're a pro-bola, bet on yourself.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: Look what your boy Jonathan Cooper did last year.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't sweating it.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: He kept his nose down, worked his butt off, double digits, a sack season for the first time as in his career.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: Broncos rewarded him halfway through.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: Keep the faith.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, let's just go through it.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Man, my first Nick Benito memory isn't a good one.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know why?
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you're drafted here and in your introductory press conference, your GM Broncos GM George Peyton, the first thing he says about you is, well, I think he needs to get in the weight room.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, but that's not what I want to hear from the Broncos new past Russia as we continue to search for the next best thing since Vaughn Miller and don't bring up Bradley Chub.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: I know Bradley Chub helped get Sean Peyton here, but he just wasn't that guy.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: We need to see more out of Nick Bernetto first season.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: One and a half sex.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's not going to do it.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: Second season eight sacks.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: Twenty twenty four.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: You come on the scene.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're a candidate for most of the year for defensive player.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: The year thirteen and a half sacks.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: One point five eight point.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh thirteen point five.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: You were trending up in sex.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: You are a playmaker.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: You absolutely dominated your edge along with Jonathan Cooper and the rest of that Broncos defense last season.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: We have to see more.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: We cannot afford to get burned.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: The nice thing about Peyton and Peyton, if you will, George finally has a man with some experience that he can bounce things off.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's no more stubbing your toe with the Russell Wilson jurors or deals, the Randy Gregory deals.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: No more of these, Sean's in charge.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Sean and George have worked surprisingly well.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see this working.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: As soon as Sean got here, I'm thinking, George is
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: Can, well, how long until the press conference, right?
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, Sean saw something in George that he wanted to work with.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: And George has been touted as the scout of scouts for as many seasons as he's been with the Broncos.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: Hell, for as long as he's been in the NFL.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of respect there in the scouting community for George Payton.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: How good of a GM is he?
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because we don't know who's truly doing what in that building.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: All I know is that Sean and George continue to trust this process that they built
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: And look, the guys and gals that are getting hired with other opportunities on other football teams are a result of this marriage between George and Sean Payton.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: So it's working right now.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting to see who's going to get paid first.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious what the vibe is in the locker room, too, because right now, at least it appears.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's happy with each other, but you know Nick Meadow and Zach Allen, they're watching each other's timeline trying to figure out which guy's going to get the bag.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know what's even crazier is.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to do an article looking at like who's who's which players are the Broncos getting the best value.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, so I go to spot rack and my article ended up morphing into something entirely different.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was about the, you know, biggest question, leading into training camp, but spot rack, which is like over the cap for those who don't know.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's they give you cap information contracts, some of the details, nitty gritty.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well,
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: they have a feature called market value and you can look at a player what he's making and then what is value on the open market in their estimation would be and there would be a time look where I would doubt what I'm about to tell you but when spot rack was estimating DJ Jones market value before free agency this year north of eleven million i was like did their trip and he's not going to get that he got it from the broncos three years ago but
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: has he lived up to it?
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not so sure.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, he crushed it.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: He got exactly basically what they were projecting at his market value.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: Portland Sutton, Luke, projection as far as a market value of the guys we've talked about tonight, Sutton, Alan Benito.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: He has in spot-racks estimation, the highest estimated market value at a contract averaging per year, twenty-six million in change, followed by Benito, followed by Alan.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, no way.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking three guys.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: The top three guys.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, just in terms of the three guys we're talking about you, right?
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, Sutton, seeking, could you see Sutton getting a contract when it's all said and done from the Broncos?
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: Or maybe they don't this year and it's from someone else next year, twenty six.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's a hundred million dollars just over.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you got a four year deal, I think they estimated a three year deal.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, do the math, something like
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: uh, seventy eight million or something.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see that.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm so sick of this conversation if I'm going to be honest, isn't Cortland Sutton?
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Aren't the Denver Broncos?
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let's figure this out this year.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: So we're not talking about this in, in, twenty, twenty, twenty, six.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, twenty nine years old, uh, was drafted way back when in, twenty eighteen, uh, forty overall out of SMU.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, man, those days of Emmanuel Sanders and Cortland Sutton throwing water bottles.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: at each other during training camp.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like just yesterday, right?
- 47:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, man, Portland's a little bit longer in the tooth.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: That being said, colon had arguably his best year last year with a rookie quarterback in Bow next.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: How does Bow next feel about things?
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, Bow's not in charge of the contracts.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: Bow does not determine who comes and who goes, but that man's influence is quickly
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: gaining steam and he's getting more influence in that building.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: I would imagine because he's the guy.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: Does he want Cortland Sutton to be his guy or have the Broncos put some other players in the place to succeed?
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Cortland Sutton or succeed, Cortland Sutton rather.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if Devon Bailey's ready for that.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know Troy Franklin's not ready for that.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: Pat Bryant, what do you look like as a rookie?
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've only got a couple x-wide receivers that I could think of, the true body type with Devon Bailey and Cortland Sutton.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: Little Jordan Humphrey.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry that that experiment is just about up.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: I can't see it.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: I can't see the big payday coming with Cortland Sutton.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they want to try to do another one year or two year deal to try to
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: at least a piece him, but Corlan needs to take the hometown discount if you want to stay in Denver.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: If not, demand a trade, get out of here, and we'll wish you well.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's no beef with Corlan Sutton, and I sound like the biggest Corlan Sutton hater, and I'm not.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was super impressed with what he did last year with this rookie quarterback, but if we're being honest,
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Courtland Sutton hasn't lived up to what he thought he would be because the Broncos didn't live up to their end since twenty eighteen and finding a quarterback.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: So is it courtland Sutton's fault?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, not necessarily timing of these things changing the guard.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird how it works out.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where they drafted around the same time.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's a little long in the tooth down there in Tampa Bay as well.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: Totally different type of wide receiver game changer.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's out there on one leg with a bad ankle on another torn quad and he still a red zone threat.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: I need to see that level of toughness, that level of command from a wide receiver that I'm going to pay twenty six mil.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing I hear you on that, the one thing I loved about Portland Sutton from the time he arrived and this is what honestly
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: led to the dust up with the manual Sanders was he was an alpha right out of the gates to like I'm the man oh I got to learn behind the marries Thomas and manual Sanders okay I'll do that but like just letting you guys know I'm coming like I'm coming after you like I'm going to be in your spot
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: And, twenty-eighteen, you know, they trade Demarius Thomas halfway through the season.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: Sanders sticks around through the end of that year, but by the end of that season, dude, like he was right, sudden was starting, and Sanders was gone after that.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes on to have a pro bull year and year two, catching passes from three different quarterbacks.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: One of whom is a rookie in Drew Lock.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I agree with you, dude, hit the quarterback stability situation has not favored him.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: That combined.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: with the knee injury in twenty twenty, you know, I had coaching turn over.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, let's, let's go hand in hand.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: Let's call it organizational incompetence up until twenty twenty three.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: Twenty twenty three, Peyton gets here.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: Things start looking up for Sutton though.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he didn't get over a thousand yards in twenty twenty three, but a career high ten touchdowns.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then last year he gets back over a thousand with bow.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you're right, like in a vacuum if he were to hit the market, I bet he could make something close to twenty five, twenty six million depending on the structure.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: But do just take a team friendly deal so you can stick it out.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: You are entering with Denver.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: You're entering your age thirty season.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the only little devil on my shoulder on that look, because I share a brain with you on that is
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: He did take at the time.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: He did take a team friendly deal in his second contract.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: So he might be saying, Hey, George, I know it was, was it George?
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was George.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was George.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was the same time as Tim Patrick.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was an absolute fit.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's post L way as GM.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Hey George, I already took a, you know, a little bit of a haircut for you on the last one.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now is when I'm going to be asking you.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I'm not saying that's what he's saying.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I wonder how much of that might factor into the conversation.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and look, Carla and son's at a different time in his life right now.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Chad, he got married last year.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: I assume he wants to start a family.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, it's just a big assumption, speculative.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Because I know family's important to Carla.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you said it, Chad, he's a good dude.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: Carla doesn't get in trouble.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: He is beloved by this fan base.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't a lot of work in the community that is very quiet.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't post a lot of the things that he does.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: And he's beloved in the locker and he's a team captain.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're in and you're out.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: Let's not forget that.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_01]: There are some games where he gets ghosted a little bit.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking of the New Orleans Saints Thursday and I football matchup from last year where I don't think Portland Sutton was logged as having a catch or even a ball thrown his way.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was just kind of a weird game.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: a weird feeling who knows what the emotions were going into that game with Sean Peyton, who obviously wanted to stick it to his old team, Spencer Rattler, the rest of his tree down there on Thursday night football, but Corlan's a good Denver Bronco, and I would love to keep him, but it's got to be for the right price, and Phil McLaughlin way in on Facebook.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much, Phil.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're super active.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: Good to see you, man.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that Pat Bryant becomes the replacement for Cortland Sutton.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, shouldn't this have happened a few years ago, Phil?
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we keep talking about the organizational failures of the Denver Broncos inconsistencies, whatever we want to call them, just change your synonym.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos haven't done a good job at farming a new X-Wide receiver to replace Cortland Sutton.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's why the Broncos and Cortland Sutton continue to find themselves at this impasse
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: year after year kicking the can down the road because they both say they want to commit to each other, but when it comes to the money, they don't quite want to get there.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: So let's continue to do these safe little deals and then, oh, next year next year next year.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: And the whole next year's up.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: You've got a thirty year old wide receiver that was drafted in twenty eighteen.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: You either are part of the future plans now and for the next two to three seasons, or you're not.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: And George and Sean need to have those conversations.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: They need to look, Portland and the eye and Portland needs to figure that out with his agent as well.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: You want to be a Denver Bronco long term?
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes or no?
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: If you think the Broncos want to make that happen, if you trust that they're committed to making that happen, why wouldn't you, if you're Portland Sutton, it has thus far, right?
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: These little one-two year-three-year deals that keep happening?
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Let's try it.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: If not,
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: then move on.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: It will be best for all parties.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: But Pat Bryant.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's see what you got in training camp.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: You're up, young man.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know that Sean Peyton believes in invent days.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't want his guys taking tons of injuries out there.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to heal guys where they can.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: I could totally see an opportunity later in the summer not to begin camp.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: It has to be earned with Cortland Sutton, but maybe Cortland gets a vet day and we put Pat Bryant in with the ones.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see how much you've been reading the playbook during the summer.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see who is studying during the Fourth of July weekend coming up here in a couple days.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: Who's getting ready for training camp?
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: These questions are going to be answered sooner rather than later in training camp.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, by the way, we're about out of time.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_00]: So this is your two minute warning last call for any burning questions.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Super's getting in the chat now, but Luke, on the subject of Bryant Sutton, they have some things in common beyond just, hey, we're both white receivers and we both play for the Broncos.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's a cap by the name, a coach by the name of Justin Step.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: He was Cortland's position coach at SMU and he was Illinois's position.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: Why does he risk coach for Bryant's last year with the fighting Alina?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he said earlier this year, right after the draft, in fact, I want to say it was maybe Nick Cosmider of the athletic had this.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said that, quote, talking about Pat Bryant.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: This coach said, quote, he's just like Portland, close quote.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: And if you look at the measureables, it's similar.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Portland's six four, Brian's six two six three something like that.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Bryant has the same ability.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see, I mean, time will tell on this, but from what I've seen of him, his tape at Illinois, go up and get the turn those fifty fifty balls into sixty-four to your better.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: That courtland, that's one of his saving graces as a guy who, okay, we're going to double team the Bronco.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to double team Sutton with a corner and a safety over the top.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: The only way he can a guy like him who's not super fast and not a super proficient route runner,
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: to defeat that, is lob it up and let him go get it.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not always the most advisable thing to do, obviously.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: Bryant, what did Sean Payton say about him?
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: The two things that jumped out to him about Bryant, aside from the intangible stuff, the leadership, the team captain stuff, the eat, sleep, breathe football stuff, the eye football IQ, as a player, what did he say?
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's super explosive off the line.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: So he gets off press.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: He gets into his route quickly.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: and super reliable hands, especially in traffic.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: He was easily the most reliable receiver in this class.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: He only had one drop last year.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure the parallels are that obvious in terms of court and sudden in Pat Bryant Luke, but the one coach who happened to coach and both as college athlete says,
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: Pat Bryant is just like Portland Sun.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, catching those passes over the middle, sign me up if that's Pat Bryant because that's something Portland Sun is done particularly well.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: And you go back to last season.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: Portland Sun had fifty seven first downs.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: Career high.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: for the guy heading into his eighth year this season okay so sign me up for a physical wide receiver a lot of times people think physical wide receivers are the ones that like to get handsy with linebackers db safeties what have you know a physical wide receiver for me is a guy that doesn't mind getting after it
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: What does that mean?
- 57:49[SPEAKER_01]: Getting hit, how hard can you get hit?
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: How much courage do you have when that linebacker's just waiting for you?
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, sign me up, because that's something I've never had to question with with Portland Sutton, not once.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: The guys football tough, these iron strong, if you will.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: I know you had a little bit of an injury history there, a little bit back, but you know what, once you finally took those God awful leg braces off and could run, I mean, he's wearing garables as leg braces.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: probably an out loud driving me crazy Tom can tell you all about it.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: I screamed about it all summer training camp, but no, Pat Bryant.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see what that looks like.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see what these rookies look like.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_01]: Troy Franklin, what have you been to him this off season?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: You've been hanging out with Beau?
- 58:26[SPEAKER_01]: I see Beau going to games with Frank Crum.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: What kind of offensive line mix are we going to get for the second strings?
- 58:32[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to get some first reps from a guy like Frank Crum out of Wyoming?
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to see that.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_01]: We know Bo's been hanging with them.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's based with Bo.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: So that'll work.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_01]: But no, it's it's super exciting times and speaking of exciting Andrew Baker.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Andrew?
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a minute, man.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for joining Chad and I here on Wednesday nights.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: M. H. I. What's up, guys?
- 58:50[SPEAKER_01]: Chad Luke and Scott.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: My fam, damnly.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: We may not have all superstars, but I believe these guys are going to produce the best that they can.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: Mile high magic is coming back.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: Baby, direction to that Andrew.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's already back, man.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: You, you're twenty twenty four Denver Broncos were in the playoffs with the rookie quarterback.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: That is some mile high magic.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_01]: This fan base conjured it up under one Sean Peyton, Bo Nixon.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: Dare I say a Vance Joseph defense that is the Creme De La Creme.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought I would say that, Chad.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's a method to Sean Payton's madness.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_01]: He kept George with no one else would.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: He rehired vans against all of our cautionary warnings against it.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: Sean must have a little idea of what he's doing, the proof is so far in the orange pudding.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew, dude, you're one of the OGs.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's really good to see a hope you've been well.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: And you're one of those guys.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: You want to talk about mile high magic coming back.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_00]: You're one of those guys.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all Broncos fans suffered through the depredations of post Super Bowl fifty, all that stuff.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_00]: But you're one of those guys that kept it, you know, burning each and every year.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_00]: You were there through some of the worst of it, the twenty twenty season, twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty brutal, man.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_00]: You'd be one of the first guys I think of when I think of how the I grew with you the mile high magic has come back what it means to the fans finally getting that lift finally coming out of wandering the NFL desert for the last preceding eight years and I agree with you dude not only is it back but Broncos are about to kick it into a new gear but guys we're out of time dude where this has been time flies when you're having fun Luke and real quick
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_00]: Also, props to the wrong.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, buddy.

- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_00]: But look, I can never remember what everybody's sign off.
