- 1:55been never on this show and we're very excited to get him on
- 1:58a show. 2022 safety Hall of Famer, The one and only Hall of
- 2:05Famer himself, Leroy Butler. Leroy, What's up, buddy?
- 2:10Errol. We have a, We have a Hall of.
- 2:11Famer on this camp. That's right, we do.
- 2:14Holy cow, thank you so much. Holy shit, like we all.
- 2:18Tried to be here we. Weren't as good as you, that's
- 2:21for damn sure. Trust.
- 2:25But I'll tell you what, you got to do a great job.
- 2:27So God made everybody good at something, you know?
- 2:30Well, I don't know about that. So there's a lot of people,
- 2:34There's a lot of people that think they're better than.
- 2:36What they think they are, they made us.
- 2:38That's that's a whole. Nother story.
- 2:39I'm not on their show though. No, that's true.
- 2:42That's true. And I'm happy that you decided
- 2:44to come on this show. And you know, it's so
- 2:46interesting because Leroy, I remember when that the names
- 2:51were getting called up at the award show, that was the year
- 2:54that Rivas went in and Joe Klecko went in.
- 2:56Joe Klecko was obviously waiting to get in for what, 30-40 years?
- 3:01And he finally gets inducted. But Leroy, you stood out more
- 3:06than both of those guys. I'm a Rivas fan.
- 3:08He's one of the greatest corners of all time.
- 3:10But there's only 6 safeties that have ever been inducted into the
- 3:15NFL Hall of Fame, and you were the last one inducted.
- 3:19Tell us a little bit about your journey to the Hall of Fame.
- 3:23The thing about it, most players you don't, if you're not a like
- 3:27a number one pick or how highly touted growing up, you really
- 3:33don't even think it's a possibility.
- 3:35That's why there's few safeties in there.
- 3:38But I'll tell you this, when I made the all decade team, I
- 3:42remember Lee Rimble, our he was our media guy for the Green Bay
- 3:46Packers. He said you made the all decade
- 3:48team. And then he just walked by my
- 3:50locker and then he came back and he said, if you made all decade,
- 3:56you may one day be in the Hall of Fame.
- 3:59And at the time I really didn't believe that because I think
- 4:03it's about quarterbacks, receivers, I mean, the Lt., the
- 4:09Reggie Whites. And then our era I thought about
- 4:13it was just obviously Brett and Reggie I thought would be first
- 4:18ballots, which they were. And then I started thinking
- 4:22about myself and I was a first semifinalist.
- 4:24I said, OK, this is fun, but I'm the same guy is baked in the
- 4:28cake whether I make it or not. So people really didn't know.
- 4:31But 2020, guys, that's when I started to say, man, I was the
- 4:35first year finalist, but I saw Roger Staubach getting out of
- 4:39the car and he was one of my heroes growing up.
- 4:43I didn't even care if I got in. I just saw my goat.
- 4:47I'm serious. And I saw Tony Boselli, my
- 4:49brother. I mean I love Tony Boselli, but
- 4:52he had been a finalist 3 times. And I got to tell you a funny
- 4:56story. So we're in.
- 4:58Back then you had to be in the hotel and they either knock on
- 5:02your door or you get a phone call.
- 5:05A phone call when you didn't make it.
- 5:07So I have in my real life, my wife, some media.
- 5:10Antonio Freeman, one of my teammates, another colleague of
- 5:15mine, and we're waiting for a knock or a phone call.
- 5:18All of a sudden, I hear a knock on the door and we're in Miami.
- 5:22I'm getting excited. I open the door.
- 5:27It was Antonio Freeman. I said what?
- 5:31He left the room to go get something to eat.
- 5:34I'm like, dude, do you know the anxiety?
- 5:38Soon as I let him in and he's over there eating his wings, I
- 5:43get a phone call. I said that better be an
- 5:46ex-girlfriend right now, but that better not be the whole
- 5:49fact we're never going to be friends and we all start
- 5:52laughing. My wife was laughing too if you
- 5:54could believe it. I pick up the phone and Mr.
- 5:58Baker says look Mr. Butler, unfortunately you didn't.
- 6:02I said whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You don't have to go through all
- 6:05that. I'll see you next year.
- 6:07I'm fine with it. I saw Roger Starbuck, I'm good
- 6:12and then 21 the pandemic 22 I'm at the house and I get a knock
- 6:20and Fast forward through most of the that and I saw Woodson in
- 6:25his gold jacket. I really didn't think none of
- 6:28it, but it feels Brett Favre, I'll say, oh, this is the Hall
- 6:35of Fame. Can remember after the pandemic,
- 6:38the new president was Jim Porter.
- 6:41He had a great idea. Since it was COVID, why don't we
- 6:45have a teammate or or somebody that played in the organization
- 6:52go to welcome them into the Hall of Fame and what's in it just
- 6:56went in. So I was shocked, of course, and
- 7:00it was amazing. I was more than happy for my
- 7:02teachers. I love teachers, my mom,
- 7:05grandparents, my son, my kids and my wife because it was just
- 7:09amazing. I was more happy too.
- 7:11For the the Packer fans, you know the Packer fans are amazing
- 7:15because I only play with one franchise.
- 7:19So you were the one who invented the Lambeau Leap back in the day
- 7:22in the early 90s. Now we've seen obviously a lot
- 7:24of Packers players do it. We've also seen the rival
- 7:26players do it in Packers fans like to push them.
- 7:28So what is the origin story? Behind that, here's the thing
- 7:321993, none of you were born but 19. 90 I was I.
- 7:38Was well, just play along with it.
- 7:43So this is my dream. I'm trying to make you younger.
- 7:46Now I get over to the locker room and I'm a diva.
- 7:51Everybody knows me up in Florida now.
- 7:54I've never been to Wisconsin. I've never when they drafted me,
- 7:57I've never been to Wisconsin. And I'm thinking, OK, I get over
- 8:03there and I look at the thermostat and it's a minus next
- 8:06to a 20. I said, guys, do they forfeit
- 8:09games? How does this work?
- 8:12So the vets are yelling at me, dude, what are you talking
- 8:14about? You've been in the league for
- 8:17like 2 1/2 years. I'm like, OK, but I needed to
- 8:21know how do we survive? Because my refrigerator was 32°
- 8:26and I left home. So we're going to die.
- 8:30No, no, though they give you stuff to keep you warm.
- 8:33Well, anyway, I God is good, really, because this is never
- 8:38God. I cause a fumble.
- 8:41OK, I see the ball come out, but I can't find it.
- 8:45The fields completely frozen and the crowds getting really loud.
- 8:51All of a sudden I see Big Dog, which is Reggie White.
- 8:53That's his nickname, Big Dog. So Big Dog struggling to run.
- 8:58And I see Bryce pop, my teammate, linebacker and our
- 9:01other first round pick linebacker in my class, Tony
- 9:04Bennett, he fell because he couldn't keep their feet.
- 9:07When you see it on YouTube. So guess who did not fall?
- 9:14Yourself. Man, this God is good.
- 9:16God is good. God is good.
- 9:20Everybody fell but me. Even Reggie was falling down
- 9:26God. But God say, I mean, since I
- 9:29gave you bad feet at birth because I had these bad feet,
- 9:33I'm going to give you good feet now, OK?
- 9:37And I run over the red. I said ready.
- 9:38Spin the ladder of this ball. Hope for any Bears fans, Detroit
- 9:45fans or people in our division, the north.
- 9:51A lateral is when you throw it behind you.
- 9:54But let me get back to the story.
- 9:57Reggie laterals me the ball I'm running down.
- 10:02I get about the 15 yard line. I lose my mind.
- 10:07I say, you know what, I'm gonna jump in the stairs and as I was
- 10:10getting closer, the people were yelling because they see me
- 10:13scored other half of the people like the ready to step out of
- 10:18bounds. Was it really a fumble?
- 10:22Like I love your production. I love that while I'm talking
- 10:25about it, you can I can. This is amazing.
- 10:27Great show. What about there?
- 10:29I make my jump and. Wasn't.
- 10:34Playing threw me away because when I jumped up there, no, it
- 10:38was spontaneous. Can't you tell by this
- 10:40interview? Everything is spontaneous.
- 10:43I'm serious, that's how that's how I am, is baked in the cake.
- 10:47I'm only one way. And when I jumped up there, some
- 10:51guy yelled at me. Somebody was not the guy in the
- 10:53ass. But don't forget about that
- 10:54part. Yeah, somebody was smacking you
- 10:56in the ass. That's.
- 10:56What? I know, right?
- 10:57I didn't even get it. I didn't even get his phone
- 11:02number. That's for Pride Month.
- 11:04So when I get up there, a guy spilled his beer on me.
- 11:10He says, man, you owe me a beer. I spilled my beer.
- 11:14It did. I came down, went to the bench
- 11:17and I, you'll see Farve come over there with this Superman
- 11:19Cape. You get this like this Cape on
- 11:22'cause you just, you just throw it off and run in the game.
- 11:26And we did some weird dance and Doug Evans came out there.
- 11:29I remember going to the bench and hung them, says boy, they're
- 11:32going to find your ass. I said, why?
- 11:35I'm celebrating with a owner. Well, what do you mean?
- 11:39Well, we don't have the owner. Our owners are shareholders.
- 11:43I want to show them thank you for staying to the game.
- 11:46We were winning like 20. We won 28 to nothing.
- 11:49If you're sitting in that cold weather drinking beer, I think I
- 11:53should jump up and hug you. And that's how the lead was
- 11:56born. That's, that's crazy.
- 12:00A Leroy. I, I, my dad got the epidemic in
- 12:04polio in 52. And so he, he went through a lot
- 12:10and I, I had just lost him three months ago.
- 12:14But my condolences. As as an athlete, you going
- 12:18through what you went through, what made you keep like, keep
- 12:25the grind? Like Dad, Dad was always my
- 12:28grind. Yeah, because I was doing
- 12:31something that my dad couldn't do.
- 12:34And you having limitations when, when you were born and all the
- 12:38other stuff, like what pushed you was it?
- 12:41Was it the drive for the sport? Was it your parents?
- 12:45Was it just your love for the game?
- 12:48I always love to see this because it's like when you go
- 12:51through something like that, people don't understand that.
- 12:55And I I love these stories. Well, it wasn't a passion for
- 13:01the game. It wasn't anything.
- 13:06It's kind of hard to describe when you grow up in poverty.
- 13:10I grew up in the inner city. It's called the Blodgett homes.
- 13:14Lot of crime, violence, and I always heard these stories.
- 13:18If you have a father in the house, your kids are criminals
- 13:22because my mom raised 5 kids by herself and you got two of my
- 13:28brothers. Thank you.
- 13:29I appreciate that. My brothers, two of my brothers
- 13:33were in the military. My sister was a nurse.
- 13:36So and then you got a special education student like myself,
- 13:42that kids bullied me all the time.
- 13:45I mean, I'm in the Deep South now.
- 13:47So that's hard enough for you to go through.
- 13:50But now you go through having braces and things of that
- 13:54nature. And I, if I ever meet Tom Hanks,
- 13:56I'm going to say, listen, I was forced gun way before you made
- 13:59that move. You'll miss some money because
- 14:03there was no running, no jumping.
- 14:05My mom, I'm in Florida. We used to sit on the porch
- 14:08outside. I I could in the swimming pool
- 14:12for the community was 100 feet away.
- 14:15This huge pool I couldn't go because I can't swim.
- 14:19I got brace on my legs. I'm extremely pigeon to old, but
- 14:23every single day I had the same smile.
- 14:26And my grandmother really brought it home because I used
- 14:29to be very shy, like really shy. Like no eye contact, look to the
- 14:34ground. And she said, listen, you need
- 14:36to talk to people because you're really funny, like your
- 14:40grandfather. I said, yeah, but kids are
- 14:42really mean and things like that.
- 14:44She said, well, they ain't up to them.
- 14:46You got to determine what you want to do.
- 14:48And that's what I told. I'm playing in the NFL to get my
- 14:50mom. I didn't use the word poverty.
- 14:53I use the word poor. And now I was laser focused on
- 14:58that. There was no Plan B in my mind.
- 15:01It was going to work. If I encountered somebody, I
- 15:04told them I'm playing in the NFL, of course they're going to
- 15:08deny it. But it ain't up to them.
- 15:10It's up to me. And yes, I had a lot of luck
- 15:13along the way. But when you say grind my mom,
- 15:20like your dad, my mom got up, catch a bus at 3:30 in the
- 15:26morning just to carpool to go to work.
- 15:31My sister, who's like my other hero, couldn't boil water.
- 15:37We didn't have a microwave, but she was just a terrible cook.
- 15:41I hope she's not listening to this program.
- 15:43Probably not, but that's where I developed my culinary skills.
- 15:49So I did the cooking and my sister got the groceries, and I
- 15:54just watched my mom. I watched my grandmother, I
- 15:58watched my grandfather. And then it really came home.
- 16:02My grandmother gave me $0.50 every time in church she sold
- 16:07Avon. It was like this cosmetic stuff.
- 16:11Yeah. Oh, that's that's just the
- 16:13Gertrude take him there taking her stuff taking us stay soft
- 16:17fro or whatever this stuff taking the lotion take take this
- 16:20this Mr. taking that the after shave that I would deliver in
- 16:25church, hustling in church. God know my heart.
- 16:28Don't judge me. I had $5 at the end of every
- 16:34week in a shoe box and that's what taught me about work and
- 16:40along the lines I expected to make it and what I did.
- 16:45My mom said be the same guy, don't let success change you
- 16:51because you work too hard for it.
- 16:54And that's after that, being 8 years old, being in a hostile
- 17:01environment and things just kind of worked out for me.
- 17:05Leroy, let me tell you something.
- 17:06First of all, we have interviewed a lot of ex athletes
- 17:10in their car. You're not the first.
- 17:11So this is that's, that's the crazy thing.
- 17:14It's it seems like every athlete wants to hide from their wife or
- 17:18hide from their family because the kids are people are
- 17:21screaming. In the house.
- 17:22First, first of all, Leroy, are you trying to make me cry?
- 17:25Because she said man, like golly, that was that was my dad
- 17:31and I miss my dad every day and. As you should.
- 17:38To hear you say that about your mother and and what you did
- 17:43awesome man by. The way that's the legacy
- 17:46though, that's the legacy. Your parents leave their legacy
- 17:49for you. You can't forget that 'cause
- 17:53he's watching his son now and he's proud of you.
- 17:56Well, it's my. Father.
- 17:58My father My father passed away about nine years ago.
- 18:00This year was nine years. May 5th was when my father
- 18:05passed away. It's a that ever since my father
- 18:08passed away, it's been different for me and my family.
- 18:11It it absolutely has my sisters, my nieces, my nephews.
- 18:14They were very, very close with my father, so I know what it.
- 18:17I know what it is to have. Yeah, it is.
- 18:20It is 100%. By the way, for all the fans
- 18:22that don't know, we are speaking to 2022 Packers Hall of Famer
- 18:27safety Leroy Butler. Now, Leroy, you mentioned Brett
- 18:30Favre and I, I watched the documentary the 30 for 30.
- 18:35Well, it was, I'm sorry, the untold, the untold Netflix
- 18:38documentary and they betrayed him.
- 18:41They betrayed him to be a really, really bad dude.
- 18:43Now I I don't know Brett Favre personally.
- 18:46I really don't. But.
- 18:48You played with him really at the upscale of his career and
- 18:52and when he really became one of the top quarterbacks, he won
- 18:56four MVP's in a row. He will will go down as the,
- 19:00the, to me, the, the, the sling thrower, that's what they used
- 19:03to call him. And he had probably one of the
- 19:05greatest storms of all time and these stories coming out and,
- 19:09and really burying him as a player and, and what he did off
- 19:13the field and how he took advantage of people.
- 19:16Why don't you tell the fans a little bit about Brett Favre as
- 19:19a person, a guy that you obviously grew up with and got a
- 19:23chance to know? Well, I just saw him like a week
- 19:25and a half ago. We had a golf tournament, told
- 19:28him we were doing a kind of a benefit for a mental health
- 19:37therapy company, which I get therapy every Thursday, and I
- 19:43did it basically through phone call because I've got another
- 19:48golf tournament for Junior Achievement.
- 19:51But what I told him a week ago, the people here, we had
- 19:55something that it was like 2 or 300 people, the people here.
- 20:01They don't. They don't care about that
- 20:04because people know that it was coming out.
- 20:08Don't even talk about that, Just tell her what?
- 20:12So that was one event. Then we went to a second event
- 20:15and he had a little anxiety. It's Wisconsin.
- 20:18We don't even have TMZ here. There's no media here following
- 20:23you around. Be yourself.
- 20:26That's baked in the cake. Everybody know that story.
- 20:28It's new to a lot of people, but I didn't know that they could
- 20:31put out stuff about you without you using your likeliness and
- 20:36stuff like that of that nature. But all that stuff is it was
- 20:41nothing new. So you know your fans going to
- 20:47support you, but in this day and age with the Diddy stuff.
- 20:56Oh, the diddler. All the other, I mean, a lot of,
- 21:00I mean, sending pictures, I thought that's how you make your
- 21:07career. I just go to Herschel career.
- 21:10That was a hit scratcher for me. I mean, she missed the window.
- 21:14That window closed, huh? Yeah.
- 21:17Come on, man. This thing was gone.
- 21:23Come back. We knew this stuff already.
- 21:26Yeah, yeah. That Busby guy, that lawyer
- 21:28they'd be calling up, they'd be trying to get me and me.
- 21:31And she missed that one, though. So if your fans, they support
- 21:39you on and off the field, not again having transgressions and
- 21:43having some issues and he's on Parkinson's skill and you still
- 21:52do some horrible stuff. Now you can't get around that.
- 21:56One of the most horrible thing is owing me $13 when I beat him
- 22:01and call. That's more egregious than
- 22:05Netflix. I want my $13 and when I went up
- 22:08to ask the beat, thought I forgot $13.
- 22:12I forgot. I got, I got, I got a dude like
- 22:15that too. I got called up to AA and I
- 22:18moved in and he got sent down. I was like, hey, I still, you
- 22:22owe me $142.37 still remember. To this day.
- 22:27Leroy. I I was paying the electric
- 22:30bill, dog, I was paying the electric.
- 22:32Bill Leroy. But what what?
- 22:33What type of player was Brett Favre on the football field?
- 22:36What type of leader was he and what type of personality was he
- 22:42on and off the field? Again, certain players is baked
- 22:46in the cake. He's just like me.
- 22:49He's only one way. He lived his life back then.
- 22:55A little risky, he on the field a little risky, but that's what
- 23:00I wanted. I remember through an
- 23:02interception in practice, he's very upset.
- 23:05I said wait, wait, don't do that.
- 23:06Don't kick the grass. It's my job to get it back.
- 23:10And on the rare occasion somebody caught a cut down on
- 23:13me, I'm thinking on the bench, man, I'm a bit on Sports Center.
- 23:16He would hit Sterling Sharp, the newly inducted into Hall of Fame
- 23:2080 yard bomb. Guess what?
- 23:22They forget about what I did. So we help each other.
- 23:27Anybody can have a friend where your Hall of Famer and things
- 23:31are going great. You have a friend somebody talk
- 23:34to when things go bad. But the thing that really
- 23:38changed quickly was Reggie White.
- 23:40Reggie White was obviously people thought he was their
- 23:43leader. Reggie White gets up and he says
- 23:49it's not my team. I said, what's your meaning?
- 23:52It's not a team. Yeah, it's not my team.
- 23:55It's Brett Favre's team. I said, wait a minute, Brett
- 23:58Favre don't give speeches. He just plays.
- 24:01But everybody remember my grandmother said this.
- 24:04God made everybody good at something.
- 24:07Because if you think about Reggie was correct and when he
- 24:10said that in a meeting, man, Brett was in the back.
- 24:13He was teaching me how to play backgammon.
- 24:14It was like, man, why do white people play Batman?
- 24:17What is this stuff? Like he said we play sheepshead
- 24:21to us or what is that? And he said, what, y'all apply?
- 24:23So we play spades. Next thing I know Reggie's
- 24:28calling him up front. You're the face of the
- 24:30franchise. And Reggie was right.
- 24:33You know why? Troy Aikman, the face of the
- 24:36franchise for Dallas. Steve Young, face of the
- 24:39franchise for San Francisco. Our face was Reggie White.
- 24:44Reggie thought to help the team. Don't look at me as the face
- 24:50breasted face because I wasn't a rah rah guy.
- 24:53Neither was Brett. And then he didn't want to give
- 24:56no speeches. But when he first went in, we
- 24:59took over from McCaskill and throw the pass.
- 25:02Only he can throw. I said, well, I like this guy.
- 25:05Yeah, we're good. Yeah, we're good.
- 25:07If you think you can make that throw, make it.
- 25:09And that's why we love playing with him and for him.
- 25:12Go back and look when his dad passed away and we talk about
- 25:15fathers on this show and mothers.
- 25:18When his dad died, he said, I'm still playing.
- 25:21I remember his ankle with the color of a crayon box.
- 25:24I said maybe your leg or pussy, you can't play.
- 25:27He said, Roy Lee, ain't nothing wrong with my arm.
- 25:30I'm playing he. I mean, it's hard to argue with.
- 25:35I know they go by the Goats with championships.
- 25:39It's hard to argue with a guy that never missed a game and he
- 25:43played for. Leroy has nothing to do.
- 25:47You can win 1,000,000 championships.
- 25:49As much as they want to say Tom Brady is the greatest player,
- 25:53the the greatest quarterback of all time, I'm still taking Joe
- 25:56Montana over him. I'm sorry, I'm taking Joe
- 25:58Montana over him and in the same.
- 26:00Thing that's good, yeah, that's. Good and and I and I look at
- 26:04accomplishments and what they have done through
- 26:06accomplishments and Brett Farve, if you look at what he's done, I
- 26:10know a lot of people compare Brett Farve and Bart's, Bart
- 26:14Stall Barr and now Aaron Rodgers when they've had, you know, the
- 26:18Green Bay Packers have had super quarterbacks and and even
- 26:22coaches. Holmgren, he was a successful
- 26:25coach over there. You have obviously one of the
- 26:27greatest. Some people would say the
- 26:29greatest coach of all time in the 50s.
- 26:32So we all know and Lombardi. So we all understand the
- 26:35background of the Green Bay Packers.
- 26:37But people forget, like you said, Reggie White and what
- 26:40Reggie White was. And I think Reggie White is the
- 26:42greatest. And by the way, Lawrence Taylor,
- 26:44everybody says is the greatest defensive lineman of all time.
- 26:47Lawrence Taylor came out and I've, I've quote, UN quote,
- 26:50heard him say this numerous amount of times when I've been
- 26:53around him and he said the best defensive player of all time is
- 26:58Reggie White. Big Dog amazing in Super Bowl
- 27:0231. I got it on VHS so I know it's
- 27:05true on. Super Bowl 31.
- 27:08You know it's true if you have it on VHS.
- 27:11And beta old people out there, I say, listen, Big Dog, what you
- 27:18going to do, man? Big Dog went out there and
- 27:19that's his nickname. Big Dog.
- 27:21When I then got them two sacks, I said we went in the Super
- 27:24Bowl. They couldn't block him.
- 27:25They couldn't block him. And the guy was amazing.
- 27:28I mean, and the and the thing about Reggie real quick was he
- 27:33sued the league to be a free agent.
- 27:35I remember that by the way. And he came to the smallest
- 27:38market, the Green Bay Packers. That's a great story.
- 27:41But here's here's another thing that people don't realize.
- 27:44Reggie was playing professional football in another league and
- 27:48before he even came to the NFL, he had like 80 or 90 sacks
- 27:52before he even stepped on an NFL field.
- 27:54If you look at Reggie White's career and you compare both of
- 27:57them put together, he would have over 230 sacks in his career.
- 28:03So and that would be double the amount of what he What do you
- 28:07have over there in the NFL? Who, by the way, who leads the
- 28:10guy that leads the NFL in sacks of all time?
- 28:13Reggie White. The Memphis showboats, I think
- 28:15that's who we play for in the USFL.
- 28:16Yep, Yep. The guy was amazing, Man, that
- 28:19guy was amazing. He had his hump move.
- 28:22I said they know why they blocking you with one guy and
- 28:28when they doubled him, that's when I got my 20 1/2 sack.
- 28:31So they said well we got to pick our poison, what do we do?
- 28:34But they got amazing to play with.
- 28:36It really was. Sure, you've heard about all
- 28:37this Aaron Rodgers drama that's been going on.
- 28:39Obviously you played with the Packers a little before that.
- 28:42But what are your thoughts to everything that's gone on when
- 28:44he was a Packer in the last couple years now with The Jets
- 28:46and the Steelers? Listen, if I'm 40, going to be
- 28:5042 years old, damn right, I'm taking a whole offseason off.
- 28:55Yeah, I ain't coming in no OTA. No, I ain't doing that.
- 28:58I'm going to go to the Amazon and search for a rare beetle.
- 29:02Only I can find it. And I'm going to walk on the
- 29:05beach and my photographer gets this amazing picture of me with
- 29:11no shoes on looking up at the Suns coming up or down, I don't
- 29:15know. And people were like, he's
- 29:18married because he has a ring on.
- 29:19I'm like, listen, it it don't matter if he's not in there by
- 29:23mandatory mini camp, then Pittsburgh, you dug yourself a
- 29:31hole. So I think he'll be there
- 29:34tonight. I think.
- 29:35But for the most part, though, this had better work.
- 29:40That's the only thing I'm saying or this gone.
- 29:43Tom ain't going to take a dip. They're going to take a dip.
- 29:46I think it's going to this goes real bad.
- 29:49They're going to take. AI think it's going to hit
- 29:51Tomlin right square in his forehead.
- 29:53I as much as I love Aaron. Ross, they got to win the Super
- 29:55Bowl. They.
- 29:56They got to make the. Playoffs get a 40 to your
- 29:58quarterback. Now you don't get a 40 to your
- 30:01quarterback for one year to just make the playoffs.
- 30:05They did that last year. Russell Woods.
- 30:07You have to get to and win a super.
- 30:10Bowl Leroy, You know the two hardest divisions in football is
- 30:13the AFC North and the NFC North. Everybody knows it.
- 30:17The Green Bay Packers division. You have Minnesota and Chicago
- 30:22and the Lions. I mean, they're stacked.
- 30:24And then you go to the North, you got Baltimore, obviously,
- 30:28you got the Bengals. You now you have the Pittsburgh
- 30:32Steelers and you have the lonely Browns.
- 30:33We all know what the Browns are. They're a laughing stock.
- 30:35But nevertheless, they pay Miles Garrett $40 million a year.
- 30:39I have no idea what they're they're thinking.
- 30:41They're giving Deshaun Watson, they gave him a 240 million
- 30:45dollar guarantee contract after he was, you know, getting his
- 30:49change jerked a couple of times a year.
- 30:50So I mean, obviously we know the whole story.
- 30:53So we all know that the divisions and, and, and again,
- 30:57you say Pittsburgh needs to win a Super Bowl.
- 30:59Pittsburgh's got to make the playoffs.
- 31:00And, and I'm going to tell you this right now, Aaron Rodgers
- 31:04going over there, Tomlin's had a winning record his whole career.
- 31:07If Aaron Rodgers doesn't, if he goes there this year and they
- 31:11don't have a winning record and they miss out on the playoffs,
- 31:13who do you think they're going to be pointing their fingers?
- 31:15Aaron Rodgers, so. Well, it'll be another Netflix
- 31:19special. You have two.
- 31:20Oh. Please I don't want to talk
- 31:23about his Netflix that'll he made The Jets dude.
- 31:28He made The Jets look like a joke.
- 31:31He made The Jets organization even look worse than they ever
- 31:34did when he went. Oh, we, we couldn't get past it
- 31:37without having to bring up The Jets.
- 31:40Well, first. Never.
- 31:42They haven't been to the playoffs since Leroy Leroy over
- 31:46the 9th grade. Stop Leroy Leroy.
- 31:50It's not that long. It's. 15 years ago, it's 15.
- 31:54Years. It's timeout of you're not being
- 31:55born in 93. It was the Rex Ryan.
- 31:58Moby Dick was a minnow. Now we're going to talk.
- 32:02About a well we're talking about well, he had to start from his
- 32:05parents. He was small and it took the
- 32:08long time to grow. We all came from a nut sack, it
- 32:14happens. Well, I don't know, Jabba, I
- 32:17don't know where you came from, OK, You're not human.
- 32:21You're like a little tadpole. You're like a tadpole, OK,
- 32:25That's probably that's where Jabba, that's where Jabba comes
- 32:27from. But I, I, I, you guys are funny.
- 32:30It's crazy, man. I, I think that your story and,
- 32:33and by the way, I got a chance to kind of see the background of
- 32:37who you are and, and how, how your journey began and where you
- 32:41really finished. It's an amazing story And, and
- 32:44even you telling us the story about the Hall of Fame and, and
- 32:47how you got there and, and during COVID, that's even more
- 32:50interesting. But you know, what's even more
- 32:52interesting about you more than anything is people forget that
- 32:57if you look at the Packers and how many Hall of Famers from the
- 33:0190s to the early 2000s have gone in a lot more than you think.
- 33:06And I, I don't have the number, but I if I'm not mistaken there
- 33:09has been 5 Packers from from 88 to 2003 that have gone to the
- 33:17Hall of Fame. Did you know that?
- 33:19I just noted the one that people keep bringing up because I live
- 33:22in Milwaukee, that the Bears has one or two more guys and then we
- 33:27do. And and guys really, because
- 33:30sometimes you pick up multiple teams, you don't really go in as
- 33:33a team, but when you did most of your damage, like Aaron Rodgers,
- 33:37because you can be first ballast.
- 33:40I mean, I think they'll either tie them or it would be down by
- 33:431. So overall, the Bears, they are
- 33:46everywhere I go, people hold that over our heads.
- 33:49They do. They just do.
- 33:50They just want the overall record, not the modern record.
- 33:54So Leroy, when when you guys go to the Hall of Fame, like
- 33:58baseball, they they choose a hat for them and obviously like you
- 34:02just said that a lot of guys play for.
- 34:04Yeah, we don't. Yeah, we don't.
- 34:05Yeah, we don't do it. It's just a gold jacket.
- 34:10Yeah, but but to your question though, all four, if say you
- 34:17play with four teams, we'll let's do it like this real
- 34:19quick. They could have a Aaron Rodgers
- 34:21day at Atlanta, which they will, and we'll put his name up.
- 34:23The Jets are going to do that because he was there for enough
- 34:27for coke and a smile. Like I like to pray Pittsburgh
- 34:31don't do that. He played one season there and
- 34:32they're going, they're going to go 6 and 11 and they'll put his
- 34:36name up. You can do as many parties if
- 34:39you want. Is that kind of up to you and
- 34:40the team? So most guys usually pick the
- 34:44team that he played with the longest.
- 34:48So and do you also see guys signing back with the team to
- 34:53finish as that player? Now that player will only talk
- 34:57about that team, but I don't think Aaron.
- 34:59'S finished their career that way.
- 35:02Yeah, I don't think Aaron's going to do that, but we're
- 35:04welcome them back. Once, you know, he, you know,
- 35:09the Ravens blitz everybody at him and he said, man, you know
- 35:12what? Maybe I need to go get some
- 35:14ayahuasca and chill out. This is not.
- 35:17So by the way, I'm getting the numbers right now, there have
- 35:19been 4 from 1990 to 2024 that have gone to the Hall of Fame
- 35:27from the Green Bay Packers, 4. So that's.
- 35:30Nice. And and especially Sterling,
- 35:31yeah. So I'm, I'm kind of, I'm just
- 35:35looking, I know Brett Favre, I know you, I know Woodson,
- 35:40actually 5 And then you have Matthews.
- 35:44And if I'm not mistaken, it was it.
- 35:46Who was the other guy? Who was the other driver?
- 35:49No, it wasn't Donald Trump, Donald.
- 35:50Trump No. No, no, no.
- 35:51No, Campman. It was it Was it Campman.
- 35:53Aaron Campman. Campman, Aaron Campman, that
- 35:56was. That was it.
- 35:57But Roy, that was a quick no, no, no on Donald Driver.
- 35:59Well, y'all talk about it. Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame.
- 36:02Green Bay Packer. Hall of football.
- 36:04Green Bay Packer. OK, my bad, my bad.
- 36:06Green Bay Packer. All Pro Football.
- 36:08Well, Pro Football is a. Little different.
- 36:10Yeah, it's a little limited. I think Matthews is still trying
- 36:12to get in. He does.
- 36:12Matthews is getting in, yeah. Yeah, I don't think Campman will
- 36:15get in. He's a good player, but not Hall
- 36:16of Famer. Yeah, but in is basically my
- 36:23era, me, Brett and Reggie Woodson, Sterling, but Kramer
- 36:31and Dave Robinson got in a few years back at the waiting 38, I
- 36:37think 40 years. Yeah, Kramer was a.
- 36:39While and Leroy was was was sterling better than Shannon?
- 36:45Oh, yeah, yes, yes, 100 percent, 100%.
- 36:50I've never played in the NFL. I'm I'm asking Hall of.
- 36:53Fame. No, it's OK.
- 36:53No, no, it's OK. They're both great.
- 36:56Players, you know they're right. You know that they're both great
- 36:59players, they're both sensational players, but
- 37:02Sterling was definitely better yeah than Shannon.
- 37:05I said if Sterling sure I would have played four more years,
- 37:08he'd be to go. He did 100 catches when he
- 37:11doubled and who cares? Just throw it to me, Brett, I'll
- 37:13catch you. Not in fantasy football.
- 37:15Everybody got 100 catches. The man was truly amazing.
- 37:17So he's he's a little shy right now, so he's not been making a
- 37:20lot of appearances, but still in sharp great.
- 37:24Other than you've obviously you've talked about Reggie,
- 37:26right, Who was the best player or most athletic that you ever
- 37:32played with and the the play with out of it or against or
- 37:38against? The most himself?
- 37:44No, I didn't think. Out himself.
- 37:47I I wouldn't because I don't want a lot of y'all.
- 37:49I don't know, let me see. I Randy Moss is sick.
- 37:59I don't know if he's human, but the the best athlete of all time
- 38:05in any sport, football bat. It's don't matter that he was
- 38:11born a grown man. It's Deion Sanders.
- 38:15He's not even close. He didn't have to work out.
- 38:18He didn't have to run. He was born with grown man
- 38:22lungs, all of his teeth. I think he got married at 3.
- 38:26This guy was just better than everybody.
- 38:31It just, and he taught me how to protect your brand.
- 38:38We got everything. We play intramural basketball.
- 38:40We were not playing until he got there.
- 38:42I said, where is he? Well, he's qualified for the 100
- 38:45meters for the Olympics. Why?
- 38:48Because he can. So so I I got a question for.
- 38:52You before we let. You go.
- 38:53I have to I have to ask you this question because you mention
- 38:56him. Did Deion Sanders hurt his son's
- 38:59draft stock because of. What he was saying.
- 39:02Or was it your door? Just opening his mouth at the
- 39:05combine, not speaking or saying the right things the way he
- 39:09should have. Well, it's definitely an idea
- 39:12because we've seen other fathers.
- 39:14Eli Manning, he ain't playing for the Chargers and get him
- 39:19over to the Giants. That's that's not unprecedented,
- 39:24but interviews and work out if I think if they had to do it
- 39:30again, this is my opinion. I would have had them playing in
- 39:34the Senior Bowl so the teams can work with him and see him
- 39:42because that's where you make your jump to all the kids out
- 39:46there. The biggest thing going to the
- 39:49Senior Bowl, not the combine, I would advocate if you're not
- 39:56going to work out, don't even go.
- 39:58Let another kid go from another school to work that wants to
- 40:02work out. I would say my son is playing
- 40:07single bowl so you can see all everything.
- 40:10He'll be coached by pro people and they'll see.
- 40:14And after that, I think he would have got drafted, hired, maybe.
- 40:21You never know at this point, but certainly.
- 40:25I don't think you can say anything that somebody would
- 40:30say. Somebody said something and I'm
- 40:34not going to draft him. But I will say this, though, I
- 40:37will say this, I will say this, I will say this.
- 40:41Pittsburgh, if that kid go up to Cleveland and plays well,
- 40:47Pittsburgh is not going to recover because instead of
- 40:50drafting him you're chose another route.
- 40:54Which is fine. The Jackson Dart kid.
- 40:57They got 26,000 quarterbacks with the Giants.
- 40:59And he proved himself. Back in the 1st.
- 41:01He I was just about to say that Jackson Dart really stuffed up
- 41:05in the Senior Bowl and that's why he moved up in the draft.
- 41:07A lot of people thought Jackson Dart.
- 41:09Was. More than a third round draft
- 41:11pick. He went all the way into the
- 41:13first round to the Giants because of what he did in the
- 41:15Senior Bowl. So I absolutely agree with you.
- 41:18I like the Senior Bowl. Yeah, that was my point.
- 41:22The Senior Bowl, everybody's there.
- 41:26You can't hide and you run through it.
- 41:29But then you can talk about the Saints car retired.
- 41:34You didn't even take a quarterback.
- 41:35OK, say you don't want to take him now move back and get him
- 41:39and develop them so all the teams that passed on him.
- 41:45History will prove who was right if he plays and then turns out
- 41:51to be a great wait. But we got to also say something
- 41:56to real quick. The NFL don't always get it
- 41:59right. They don't.
- 42:01Who thought they they draft rooms, All 32 of them.
- 42:07Mel Kiper's an. Idiot.
- 42:08I'm in a person, Mel. Kiper's an idiot.
- 42:10He has no idea, no. No, he has no idea what.
- 42:12He's doing. He doesn't know anything, dude.
- 42:16Dude, if you ever look at his board.
- 42:18Mel Kiper. The guy's blind.
- 42:20He is blind. Have you ever seen his draft
- 42:23boards? This some of the worst draft
- 42:25boards I've ever seen in my and ESP NS paying them.
- 42:28He's he's making like 8 figures sitting there and talking his
- 42:31crap. How do you watch football?
- 42:33Why you hate? Why you hate that True Mel?
- 42:36Kiper is horrible. It's horrible, Leroy.
- 42:39Mel Mel Kiper is the goat. Oh, stop it, stop it.
- 42:44I just said everybody don't. I would take Mel Kiper over
- 42:49anybody out there doing any kind of draft stuff.
- 42:52I would. I'm just just take my word for
- 42:55it. This guy puts in a lot of work.
- 42:58When we're sleeping Mel Kiper up, talking to people, looking
- 43:01at film. The guys amazing.
- 43:04Don't like air. It's still great.
- 43:06So he's not hanging out with Deshaun Watson or Bill, you
- 43:09know, You know Robert. Cray, you going, You going.
- 43:12You're going to argue with the Hall of Famer.
- 43:13You're going to argue with the. Hall of Famer.
- 43:15I'm just saying I'm just. If you look at Mel Kiper, if you
- 43:18look at his draft board over the last 15 years, he has absolutely
- 43:22struck out in practically every single draft.
- 43:25Well, see, see see here's here's where we can agree to disagree.
- 43:29He would never strike out. And why?
- 43:33Guess why he's not picking the players the teams are striking
- 43:38out. So because you can't go by what
- 43:42Mel Kiper say, go look at your own tape.
- 43:46These scouts. That's just the lazy way these
- 43:50scouts do. I just look at Mel Kiper and
- 43:52then when Mel Kiper gets it wrong, you're like, oh, that
- 43:54player didn't go. But if you do the history on Mel
- 43:57Kiper, you say look at the history of all the players.
- 44:01He projected a lot of them in the Hall of Fame.
- 44:07I mean, he's the goat. He is the goat all.
- 44:10Right, Leroy, I, you know I. Love it could be a Billy goat.
- 44:12It could be a Billy goat. It's old now, but that's tip of
- 44:16the sword. It's a.
- 44:18Billy Goat? Is that what you're making?
- 44:19Agree to disagree. Listen, listen.
- 44:21You know what your new nickname is?
- 44:22It's Leroy the Billy Goat Butler.
- 44:28I'm a trademark dad. Leroy, I want you to do
- 44:35something before you go, OK? I want to.

- 44:40mics because I want you to record this.
- 44:43I want you to say you are now listening.

- 44:48Leroy Butler, Hall of Fame, Packer Safety and you are now
- 44:53listening to Jop in the Mouth. Could you do that for us right
- 44:56now? Nice.
- 44:57Loud. That's too long.
- 44:59Come on man, just give it to. Us you got to give it that's too
- 45:03you got to make it tight all. Right.
- 45:04Give us tight. Give us your tightness right

- 45:11I want to take this drop and I'm going to put it on something so
- 45:14people can hear it from the great Leroy.
- 45:16OK, so give me the premise of your drop again.
- 45:20OK, this is Leroy. Butler, I know who I am.

- 45:41I'm dealing with tonsillitis. You believe it or not, I'm
- 45:43doing. This show, he's been sick, so I
- 45:46got to give him a little break. I've been very sick as a.
- 45:48Matter of fact. I have been.
- 45:51But I hope you feel better. But you made it very
- 45:53entertaining. Thank you.
- 45:54Thank you. I I really appreciate that
- 45:56Leroy. And we want to get you on again,

- 46:58always gave up the booty. This makes my pecker hard.
- 47:02Hold on. You just made my nipples hard.
- 47:05As long as she's using dude wipes and taking care of my 2
- 47:07hole I'm good. Pulled it out of my ass.
- 47:09Hold on, hold on, hold on. Bagel Hole, I am a legend.
- 47:14Butt plug. Is that your cucumber or are you
- 47:18happy to see me? Jabba likes my shrimp cocktail
- 47:23you got? People to say that.
- 47:24No, these are cuts from our show.
- 47:27We're crazy, dude. This isn't like any normal show.
- 47:31I mean, we don't sit. There.
- 47:32And how about insane? Oh, insane.
- 47:35Dude. Dude, if you actually listen to
- 47:37our show, you would know how insane we are.
- 47:40But we know what we're talking about.
- 47:41Have. You listened, that's why I'm on
- 47:43the show. Shout out to my God.
- 47:44That's why we that's why we love you Leroy.
- 47:47We are very happy to have you on man and and we definitely want.
- 47:50To get you. On and you're sensational.
- 47:52Thank you for the stories, thank you for such a great career and
- 47:56we're looking forward to getting you on.
- 47:57Again, you're sensational. Thank you so much guys.
- 48:02Congratulations. As as a kid from the Midwest,
- 48:05you know, we, we, we had a Mon Green and the Packers and we had
- 48:09all that stuff. So I was fortunate enough to
- 48:12watch you and, and do that and you were fantastic and
- 48:15everything you did, man, it was it was, it was awesome.
- 48:18And then? Thank you so much.
- 48:19Your your stories about your mom and you know how that is.
- 48:23It really touched me. And you know, it's kind of how I
- 48:25grew up with with my father. So meant a lot to me and I
- 48:29appreciate your time. Hey, no problem.
- 48:32Again, thank you so much guys. I'll stay up.
- 48:35We're going to stay up and tell your son or whoever was going
- 48:37into the back of the car. We love you too, buddy.
- 48:39Yeah, that's my side and I. I saw him waving behind you.
- 48:43I saw him baby, baby, baby. So we but.
- 48:47We really loves it. Yeah.
- 48:48Well, we really love you and and the fact that you gave us 40
- 48:51minutes of your time just says a lot about who you are as a
- 48:54person. So we really appreciate it.
- 48:58All right. Take care guys.
- 48:59Let's give him a golf clap, ladies and gentlemen.
- 49:02A little golf clap for Leroy Butler, ladies and gentlemen.
- 49:06He was sensational. Dude, we just had a Hall of
- 49:09Famer, Yeah. We've had a couple of Hall of
- 49:12Famers on this. Show.
- 49:14Yeah, he's really cool and you want to know something?
- 49:16He's a great personality. I was ecstatic to get him on
- 49:20when Speedy said that. Wow, guys, his agent was on.
- 49:24His stories were great. He was fantastic.
- 49:26It was worth every bit of the wait.
- 49:29So what are we? Are we going to get the?
- 49:31It looks like it looks like they both had to go.
- 49:33I have their picks. I'm going to.
- 49:35Apologize to them. Yeah, I've already done that in
- 49:38the betting chat unfortunately. But Leroy was awesome.
- 49:41W did send some CFL picks. He sent CFL picks.
- 49:45One of them already happened. I mentioned in the private chat
- 49:47he had Montreal tonight versus Toronto -5 tomorrow he's got
- 49:51Calgary. Sam Peters is all CFL on the
- 49:53money line. Toronto +44 point 5 and then the
- 49:58BC lions -5 1/2 in that game. Saskatchewan -3 and then Reno.
- 50:03Johnny's he had the Orioles tomorrow.
- 50:06He there's no line out set for it, but they're playing against
- 50:08the A's but likely to be -130 and then Oilers in both Game 2
- 50:13and game three of the Stanley Cup.
- 50:14Anyways, ladies and gentlemen, we have a new segment.
- 50:18We call this Spitty's A Speedy's 6 Pack of the Week.
- 50:24Let's have a sixer. Hey, who wants to play Drink the
- 50:27Beer? It's time for the Speedy 6 pack
- 50:29of the week. All right, here we are.
- 50:35Speedy 6 pack our new segment. Every show we're going to do
- 50:40something. We're speedy.
- 50:42You're going to come up with six different facts or stats about a
- 50:46game or an event and you're going to read them off to us.
- 50:50So Speedy, we're going to put you over here on the side and
- 50:53you're going to start talking about.
- 50:54We've got some music, really. Exciting Game 1 and I got music
- 50:58coming in right now. Damn, I didn't I didn't know
- 51:00Speedy's ABS looked that good. Speedy's 6 pack is impressive.
- 51:03It doesn't. It's not.
- 51:05That all right? I like this.
- 51:08Good choice, fish. All right, so first one of the
- 51:10day. This is the two Selkie Trophy
- 51:13centers we were talking about on Monday, Barkov and Reinhardt.
- 51:16Meanwhile, the Panthers just possessed the puck 41.5% of the
- 51:19time with him on the ice and 38.9 with Reinhardt on the ice.
- 51:24Doesn't seem like they're getting a lot of defense and
- 51:25takeaways against those Edmonton big guns.
- 51:31All right, well, what? What?
- 51:32What can I? That's what you have.
- 51:34Give me a Brady. Well, yeah, the instrumentals of
- 51:37this song, that's what we should have.
- 51:40Yeah. Go ahead, go ahead.
- 51:42So yeah, it's it's something that you would think that a team
- 51:45like the Florida Panthers, especially face off wise and
- 51:48defensively, the way they are able to stick handle should be
- 51:50able to get them out of the zone a lot faster.
- 51:52They were not able to do that on that end.
- 51:54And then it leads me to the the second part of the six pack as
- 51:57well. Leon Dry Seidel on the other
- 51:59extreme, 67% of the time he was on the ice, they had the puck
- 52:03and 60.6 in the offensive zone alone.
- 52:07Which leads me to believe that these either the line
- 52:10combinations were not working with Paul Maurice as much as
- 52:13they probably should have or the Rangers.
- 52:16Ex head coach Chris Knobloch did not do as well did a great job
- 52:20in terms of getting those matchups to keep them off the
- 52:23ice in the matchups that they get him off the ice against
- 52:27those two sulky trophy guys or something that the Rangers did
- 52:29not do very well last year with their centers.
- 52:31And that's why Mika's the Benjet had those awful awful post
- 52:33season stuff like that. But Knobloch was able to do with
- 52:36his stars and all of the other other depth pieces that we were
- 52:38mentioning. Fish, you were concerned about
- 52:40Zach Hyman's presence not being there.
- 52:41But those other depth players did a very good job even
- 52:43possessing the puck too. So these people believe they
- 52:46possessed the puck very well. What are your guys thoughts?
- 52:51What was that? What was that music over there?
- 52:53I'm trying to get you the instrumental version.
- 52:55Give me a. Break.
- 52:56It's horrible. I could get the instrumentals,
- 52:59but I can't do it on I. Got it, I got it took.
- 53:01Me a Well, we got it on, so you might as well not even play it.
- 53:04It's not. It's maybe next time.
- 53:06So do you have any answers to what he was saying about these
- 53:09stupid analytics? I mean, I have no, I have
- 53:14nothing to say about the analytics here with the what was
- 53:17the question, Speedy? It was all over the place with
- 53:20these analytics. It wasn't a question, it was
- 53:21just mentioning how the Panthers were barely able to possess the
- 53:25puck about 40% combined with both their sulky trophy guys on
- 53:28the ice versus Leon Dry Seidel 67% of the time he had.
- 53:31The puck, well, dry. Settle hasn't had a really good
- 53:33playoff run. He's one of the best offensive
- 53:35players over the last, I would say the last 10 years.
- 53:38If you look at his numbers, they're comparable to Mario
- 53:41Lemieux. If you go look at the top ten
- 53:43offensive players in NHL history, Dry Saddles up there
- 53:46throughout the playoffs. He's been up and down.
- 53:48Now I said that Dry Saddle could really take off in this series,
- 53:52and you're seeing it right now. I think Dry Saddle is one of the
- 53:54best offensive players in the league.
- 53:56You see what he did in game #1 and I wasn't surprised when it
- 54:00went to overtime that Edmonton was going to pull it out.
- 54:02When you have guys like Connor McDavid and Dry Saddle doing
- 54:05what they have done over the last couple years.
- 54:07A matter of fact, I am not. I don't know the number, so
- 54:09don't call me on this. Edmonton, when they go into
- 54:12overtime, they have, they've won most of the majority of their
- 54:16games in the playoffs. When they go to overtime, I
- 54:18think they're statistic and I again, don't call me on this.
- 54:21It's got to be over 75%. It's got to be and it's the most
- 54:24that they've won in a single postseason already with with
- 54:27overtime games. There's actually been 21
- 54:29overtime games in that in the span, which is already on pace
- 54:33to be a record as well in a single postseason.
- 54:36All right, Fish, do you have any thoughts or you want me to move
- 54:37on to another? Now get go to the next.
- 54:39One we'll just. Take one, one take on each.
- 54:40All right, so two more with one for each team.
- 54:43This is 1 positive one for Florida.
- 54:45Sam Bennett had 22 just under 23 minutes of ice time and scored
- 54:49two goals on 40% of his shots. And then on the Oilers end 16
- 54:53more shot attempts with both Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard
- 54:57on the ice at the same time. Then Florida Panthers hat.
- 55:01Well, that's what we thought was going to happen, right?
- 55:03When you have the McDavid lines on there, especially when
- 55:05they're on the power play and speedy, you know, they lost in
- 55:08overtime because they gave up a power play to the most lethal,
- 55:13absolutely destructive force that the NHL has seen for a
- 55:16number of years. You can't do that against this
- 55:19team. And they thought maybe they get
- 55:21away with it at the end of the first overtime and sure enough,
- 55:24just great passing, great puck movement.
- 55:26We can't stop it when the guy who's finishing his dry sidle,
- 55:30by the way, dry sidle the most goals, most points for any
- 55:33German born player of all. Time he's.
- 55:36The best German player ever if you if by the time he's done
- 55:40with his career. Second most, the second most
- 55:42goals is a guy I will talk about in our sports minute.
- 55:45By the time Dry Sidle walks away from the NHL, he's going to
- 55:48probably score close to 600 and semi goals.
- 55:51He's going to be compared comparable to the Yammer Yagers
- 55:55of the world because Yammer Yaga was really Mary Lemieux Robin.
- 56:00That's what he was. And even when when Mario Lemieux
- 56:03walked away from hockey and Mario Yami Yaga jumped from one
- 56:06team to another, he was like the Robin on every other team that
- 56:10he played for. He wasn't the guys.
- 56:12Well, that's the. Rangers was the guy on the
- 56:14Rangers. The Rangers suck, so why did you
- 56:16even bring up the Rangers? They were one game away from
- 56:19getting into the Good for Them conference finals in. 20 And
- 56:22they didn't and they didn't. When was the last and when was
- 56:25the last time the Rangers went to the Stanley Cup and won?
- 56:28Well, they won the stand. They went to the Stanley Cup
- 56:30against the lake the the Kings. But when was the last time they
- 56:34won in 94? And what did they do to their
- 56:36their GM after they won? They let him go.
- 56:39So typical New York Rangers we. Talked to him and he was.
- 56:43Great. Typical Rangers stink.
- 56:45And I, by the way, after the Rangers won in 94, I told all
- 56:48the Ranger fans they're not going to win another
- 56:51championship in it for another 50 years and they thought I was
- 56:53nuts. So, and it's it's what?
- 56:55How long has it been now 9490? 4 I'm 30 so it'll be 31 years.
- 57:0031 years, so maybe in another 20 years so or 19 years the Rangers
- 57:05will win the Stanley Cup. You got one more.
- 57:06Speech I got the last two, the last two kind of go hand in
- 57:09hand. So on the Panthers end on the
- 57:10losing side three seasons with Paul Maurice, the Panthers were
- 57:1231 and oh where they either had a first or second period lead up
- 57:16until this game one where they blew A31 lead at the end of the
- 57:20OR three two lead at the end of the second period.
- 57:21And on the Oilers end, they have 7 come from behind wins, almost
- 57:26doubling the next highest team for a single postseason.
- 57:29So they actually broke the record that the Kings had, the
- 57:312014 Kings that beat the Rangers, They they broke that
- 57:34record earlier this postseason and now they've just cemented it
- 57:37even more, which means they likely maybe could even double
- 57:40it. They could get 8.
- 57:40They could get 9 even at the point if it comes down to it,
- 57:43because Florida, we've talked about they have a good playoff
- 57:46identity because they really know how to play when they're
- 57:48ahead. And that's something that the
- 57:49Rangers had trouble with last year.
- 57:51That's something that Carolina definitely trouble with in both
- 57:53the times they they end up losing to them.
- 57:55So it's Florida is very good sitting on a lead probably more
- 57:58than a lot of teams we've seen in the past and just Edmonton is
- 58:01the other extreme. I compared it when we were
- 58:03talking about the Stanley Cup when they beat when they beat
- 58:06the Stars, they're like the Florida Gators of the NHL.
- 58:08They they kept finding weird ways to win this game and he's.
- 58:12Fun. Any weird way they have two of
- 58:15the top three best players in all of hockey in the world on
- 58:20their team on their roster. And that's why Connor McDavid is
- 58:23by far the best player in the world.
- 58:26And then you have dry saddle. You can argue at one point,
- 58:28maybe three years ago with some people compared him as the
- 58:30number two guy on the same roster, but you can argue 3 or
- 58:344. He's 3rd or 4th right now in the
- 58:36NHL and dry saddle to me is more potent in the playoffs than
- 58:40McDavid. And if they get dry saddle to
- 58:42play like he did yesterday, I the Florida Panthers, as good as
- 58:46they are and now stacked as they are, they're not beating
- 58:48Edmonton because those guys are just so much better than
- 58:51everybody else. So.
- 58:54Fish, you were mentioning it to save your tears, but Mathias at
- 58:58Cold was so close to the game-winning goal, they just had
- 59:00to defend well enough just to stop him.
- 59:01And then obviously just Stars took over.
- 59:03You talked about bark off, bark off, you talked to Reinhart, you
- 59:07talk about Marshant, you talk about all these guys are could
- 59:11Chuck all these great players on the team.
- 59:14You look at those guys and you look at dry saddle McDavid.
- 59:18If you ask any GM, would you take but four of those guys or
- 59:21you take those two guys or take five of those guys that's Bob
- 59:25Rotsky or McDavid and dry subtle.
- 59:28I guarantee you every single GM would take those two guys over
- 59:31those 5. Guys, yeah, foundations that you
- 59:33could build we've seen, especially now in today's game,
- 59:35we've seen a lot of teams win with either randomly new
- 59:38goaltending we. Have no goaltending.
- 59:40I don't want to use Skinner as a goalie.
- 59:41That's that's. What I'm saying Vegas won with
- 59:45Aiden Hill and they rotated 4 different guys all year.
- 59:47Pittsburgh won with Matt Murray. So there's definitely like a way
- 59:51that you can make that kind of system work in today's game
- 59:54where you either have a goalie by platoon or just goalies that
- 59:57they don't feel as much pressure as it was to even the Blues with
- 1:00:00Bennington, as much as you hate them like it was, that was very
- 1:00:02random too, because Jake Allen got hurt that season.
- 1:00:05So they were trying to make that system work and Chris Noblock
- 1:00:08does. There's a lot of credit for
- 1:00:09that. Anyways, thank you to all the
- 1:00:12fans. Thank you to Leroy Butler by the
- 1:00:13way, he was fantastic. Thank you for joining us.
- 1:00:16Hall of Famer, one of the greatest safeties ever.
- 1:00:18Play the game, great personality and as he came out and said that
- 1:00:23Reggie White is the greatest player, greatest defensive
- 1:00:25player to ever play the game, I would agree with him.
- 1:00:28So congratulations to an unbelievable career and being
- 1:00:33inducted to one of the greatest Hall of Fame's you can be
- 1:00:36inducted to, and that's the NFL Hall of Fame.
- 1:00:38So thank you, Leroy. Thank you to the fans, thank you
- 1:00:41to the guys, our interns for joining us.
- 1:00:44Zach, congratulations, Jake Aaron, thank you to the Mr.
- 1:00:47Poops over here, our producer and all the fans out there
- 1:00:50listening to us on all our social medias.
- 1:00:52We really appreciate you guys. Thank you to Blue wire.
- 1:00:55Thank you to what, what blue wires doing right now and, and,
- 1:00:59and, and the contract that we signed with them.
- 1:01:00So thank you to them and thank you to Mr. Goodwood.
- 1:01:04He is 2 and oh, right now, I don't know if he won tonight,
- 1:01:07but Mr. Goody 50, I think he said 57 strikeouts in two some
- 1:01:12crazy number. So it's it's pretty cool.
- 1:01:16He's, he's, he's doing such a, such a good job over there. 57
- 1:01:19something like that, 4740. Seven only 27 outs.
- 1:01:23That'd be 54 outs. Then it was. 47 that was maybe
- 1:01:25it was 40 something. It was something high.
- 1:01:27It was a high number. Anyways, that's it for a show.
