- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happen to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here.
- 0:13Every day to record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some. Joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop, and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the porch. A quote from Leo Tolstoy today.
- 0:32Each person's task in life is to become an increasingly better
- 0:36person today. Wow.
- 0:38That is a pretty specific thing he's asking for.
- 0:42Each person's task in life is to become an increasingly better
- 0:46person today. So he's not saying think about
- 0:49it. He's not saying contemplate it.
- 0:51He's not saying, you know, you know, put it out there and just
- 0:56don't do anything about it. He's saying do it today and I
- 0:59love that because it's giving very specific action to take in
- 1:05this moment today, not to wait, not to do anything different,
- 1:09but just to say, OK, how am I going to do this today?
- 1:12Now it's a very deep thought when you start getting into it
- 1:16because most of us are just running our rackets.
- 1:18We're just out there doing what we do.
- 1:20We're we're working, we're taking care of our family.
- 1:23We're doing laundry, we're making breakfast, we're
- 1:25recording podcasts, we're looking for butterflies,
- 1:28whatever it might be. We're saying, OK, I've got a
- 1:31list, list of tasks to do. And those tasks are endless.
- 1:37If you are anything like me, you look at your list and you you go
- 1:41these, this just doesn't go away.
- 1:44I had this conversation recently with my daughter and she said,
- 1:47you know, the list of things to do doesn't ever get any shorter.
- 1:51And I said, well, here's something that you can rely on.
- 1:54The list stops when you're dead and you have to realize that
- 1:59it's proof of being alive. So the first thing you have to
- 2:02look at is say, you know what? That list of things to do is not
- 2:05going anywhere anytime soon because it's proof I'm alive.
- 2:08It's proof I have things that need my care.
- 2:11It's proof that I have things that are important and to other
- 2:14people that I do like, it's important today that when I
- 2:17start coaching at 8:00, today is a late day for me to start.
- 2:22I, I actually look at that and I go, oh, wow.
- 2:26I, I, I feel like that's a blessing.
- 2:29I look at that and I say, OK, when I start that someone's
- 2:32looking forward to that conversation and each and every
- 2:34hour thereafter that I'm doing it.
- 2:37They're looking forward to their conversation and I'm looking
- 2:40forward to that conversation and I'm I'm looking at it and I'm
- 2:44saying, OK, how can I add value to them?
- 2:48That's a big question that I ask myself every day because it
- 2:51falls under this realm of being an increasingly better person,
- 2:57learning something every day, asking yourself small things,
- 3:01learning. Like yesterday I was able to
- 3:03actually use cap cut, edit a video I had with it, and put it
- 3:10up on YouTube Shorts by myself. If you go over to YouTube Shorts
- 3:14and you go to mindset with Kim, you're going to see that there's
- 3:18a short up there that is the title of it is, is this poop?
- 3:24And you'll see why when you get there, but it's not always what
- 3:28it's meant to be. But here's the thing.
- 3:30Here's the thing that to me, makes me feel like I'm an
- 3:34increasingly better person because I learned something new.
- 3:37I learned how to do something and I felt very accomplished.
- 3:41Now it took me way too long. I am not fast with it.
- 3:45I'm not fast like I am with graphics.
- 3:47But that's okay. I can become better with it the
- 3:50more I work on it. And you know what?
- 3:53I also made a couple of calls yesterday to people I hadn't
- 3:57spoken to in a long time. I had a little gap in my
- 3:59schedule. And I was like, you know what?
- 4:01Let me go check on this person. Let me go check on this person.
- 4:04And that just those little outreach, those little touches
- 4:07make all the difference. Even if it's just a text, even
- 4:10if it's just, hey, I'm thinking of you.
- 4:13Those things add value to people and they make them feel like
- 4:16they matter, which is part of being an increasingly better
- 4:20person in my world. Now you have to decide what is
- 4:24being an increasingly better person every day in your world.
- 4:27Is it being better to yourself? I mean, for some of us, sure,
- 4:31We, we don't take care of ourselves.
- 4:33For some of us, we're better at that.
- 4:35I know I'm very, I'm very good at being that way with myself in
- 4:41gardening, like in the, in my world of nature, like do I take
- 4:45the time to go and get a massage?
- 4:47No, I rarely do that because I think of that like, oh, well,
- 4:51you know, I could have, I could have been doing this or I could
- 4:54have been doing that. It it, my brain just goes to
- 4:57different places where it's stuff that I'm attracted to in
- 5:00the garden. It's an obsession for me to be
- 5:03out there and seeing things and looking at things and observing
- 5:06things and doing things and creating things.
- 5:09That's how I add my increasingly better person into this world
- 5:14because I know the more I do that, the more flowers I have,
- 5:17the more things I see, the more creatures I help.
- 5:21It's all part of that cycle. But you have to find out what is
- 5:23your version of that? How do you want to become an
- 5:26increasingly better person? Is it just being more patient?
- 5:29Is it just being kind? I mean, a few years ago, I said
- 5:33every morning my dog had to take a pill.
- 5:36And every morning he's, you know, he's got a hat.
- 5:39He, I took him off the medication.
- 5:40Now he was scratching constantly and I had to give him a pill
- 5:44every day. So I made a decision that every
- 5:47day I gave him the pill, I was going to kiss him on the
- 5:49forehead and I was going to bless him that he didn't need
- 5:52the pill anymore. And lo and behold, after a year
- 5:54and a half, he doesn't need the pill anymore.
- 5:57So I love that. And I, I just feel like, OK, I
- 6:01was an increasingly better person with my patients.
- 6:04So what are you going to do today that puts you in that
- 6:07category of increasingly better person?
- 6:10All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:12will see you tomorrow. Bye.
