Transcript
- 0:10Hi there, and welcome to another mental health moment from the
- 0:12Life Live Better podcast. This is the place where we take
- 0:16just a couple of minutes to care for our minds.
- 0:19I'm Paula, and in this episode we're diving into something that
- 0:22can quietly chip away at our Peace of Mind, and that is
- 0:26comparison. It is easier now more than ever
- 0:30to compare ourselves with others, especially with social
- 0:34media where we see everyone's career milestones, we see their
- 0:39relationship highlights, we see all the great stuff going on in
- 0:43their lives and we really look at them and we think, gosh, they
- 0:48have it all together. That can leave us feeling like
- 0:51we are always behind. But here's the truth.
- 0:54Comparison just steals our joy. It shifts our focus away from
- 0:59our appreciation to inadequacy. When we compare, we're usually
- 1:05measuring our behind the scene reels against their highlight
- 1:10reels. We see their successes, but we
- 1:12don't see their struggles. We see their confidence, but we
- 1:16don't see the doubt that lives underneath.
- 1:19So how can you break free from that comparison trap?
- 1:22Well, first you have to notice when it happens.
- 1:25Awareness is so powerful. When you catch yourself thinking
- 1:30they're doing better than me, just pause and remind yourself
- 1:34their path is not your path. Next, redirect your focus.
- 1:40Instead of measuring yourself against other people, measure
- 1:43your progress against your own past.
- 1:46Ask yourself, how have I grown? What have I learned?
- 1:50Small, steady progress is worth celebrating.
- 1:54And finally, practice gratitude. Focusing on what's going on
- 1:59right now in your own life builds contentment, and
- 2:03contentment is the antidote to comparison.
- 2:07Remember, you're not competing with anyone.
- 2:10You're on your own timeline. You are writing your story.
- 2:15The Life Live Better podcast thanks you for joining us for
- 2:18this mental health moment. Until next time, take care of
- 2:21your mind because it's the only one you've got.
- 2:25And don't forget that knowledge leads to a life lived better.
