- 1:05Speaker 2: hardrock.bet backslash clay. Back to college football, LT. Pick a
- 1:10Speaker 2: game we've yet to talk about so far in college football.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Hour one, we hit heavy on LSU going into Oxford
- 1:17Speaker 2: and getting spanked, the old BTS game. BTA, excuse me,
- 1:21Speaker 2: of Ole Miss to LSU. They love to talk like that.
- 1:24Speaker 2: A lot of belt popping going on in the stands
- 1:26Speaker 2: over there. We hit on Alabama a little. We hit
- 1:29Speaker 2: on Kentucky's big win at Texas A & M. Where
- 1:31Speaker 2: are we going next?
- 1:32Speaker 5: Well, I cannot believe what I saw in Nashville.
- 1:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I knew we were going to get to it.
- 1:37Speaker 3: On Saturday with NC State and Vanderbilt.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Hey, look, it's so difficult for these guys to bust
- 1:42Speaker 5: their ass and get prepared for a game. And you
- 1:46Speaker 5: lead every single second of that game until the last second.
- 1:51Speaker 5: And you blow that game. I just I don't understand it.
- 1:54Speaker 5: They were up 17 nothing in the first half. They
- 1:57Speaker 5: were up 17 in the second half.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And what Dave Durham was doing and.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I would have put C.J. Bailey
- 2:06Speaker 5: in because I was talking it out in that scenario.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Had a couple of people over. Like, get him the snap.
- 2:12Speaker 5: The one thing you've got to do, though, is avoid contact.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Correct. Like, he's the best athlete. He can run around
- 2:18Speaker 3: as long as he doesn't see contact. I mean, a
- 2:19Speaker 3: couple of things. Should have been holding. The entire time.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Because if you hold, worst case, you're just.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Let's come back to that.
- 2:25Speaker 6: Okay.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Let's come back to that.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You're going to... But you didn't even need to do that.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I mean, there was five seconds on the clock.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Six, I think. The same.
- 2:31Speaker 7: Five, six.
- 2:32Speaker 3: And I cannot believe they put the second back on.
- 2:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 3: And that clock was different. Like, that was such.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Here we go again.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Well, let me ask you this. Was it ACC officials?
- 2:41Speaker 3: I thought it was.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I don't know, but I think normally when you go
- 2:44Speaker 1: on the road, you take your officials.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Yeah, so why we didn't have the transparency of the
- 2:48Speaker 5: ACC replay.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I thought it was ACC officials.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I thought it was ACC on the road.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It depends on the contract of the game.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Can't take contact there.
- 2:57Speaker 1: To your point of C.J.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Bailey, you're supposed to stand near the back line, and
- 3:02Speaker 2: you can move around on the back line, Dan Orlovsky,
- 3:05Speaker 2: without stepping out of bounds. And when they get close
- 3:07Speaker 2: to you, you step out. I want to know how
- 3:10Speaker 2: much that's been repped and then how many times. I mean,
- 3:14Speaker 2: you can sit there and have a 30-minute conversation with C.J.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Bailey on the sidelines. Until he understands what we're trying
- 3:20Speaker 2: to do, you can take a delay of game penalty.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You don't care how far you're going back.
- 3:23Speaker 3: That doesn't matter.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and then your other thing on Morgan pointed this
- 3:27Speaker 2: out on Monday Morning Live. Every offensive lineman should have
- 3:30Speaker 2: been told, just tackle people.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That is incorrect.
- 3:34Speaker 9: Why?
- 3:34Speaker 1: All right, I have reached it. No, it's in the
- 3:36Speaker 1: end zone. It's holding in the end zone, so that's
- 3:38Speaker 1: two points.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Are you going to say they can put clock time
- 3:40Speaker 3: back on the clock?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Hang on, hang on. I reached out to Steve Shaw,
- 3:45Speaker 1: now part of the ABC crew, because I thought the
- 3:47Speaker 1: same thing. Steve's doing a great job with Herbstreet and Fowler.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And I asked him point blank. I was like, correct
- 3:52Speaker 1: me if I'm wrong here, but if every NC State
- 3:55Speaker 1: player just tackles the Vandy defender, clock runs out, And
- 4:02Speaker 1: one of two things happens. Either it's hold and you
- 4:04Speaker 1: accept the penalty, take the safety game over, or you
- 4:07Speaker 1: decline the penalty, game over. Steve said, not true. In
- 4:10Speaker 1: those situations, that converts to an unsportsmanlike conduct. And you
- 4:15Speaker 1: would have a 15-yard and have to play the play over.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So I thought the same thing. But there's still no
- 4:21Speaker 1: time on the clock.
- 4:22Speaker 3: No, he can't. No, the time.
- 4:25Speaker 1: He said it specifically. So they would put six seconds
- 4:28Speaker 1: back on and play it again? Got to play it again.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Steve said, the holding calls convert to unsportsmanlike conduct fouls.
- 4:35Speaker 1: The clock is reset to the time it displayed at
- 4:37Speaker 1: the snap. They could not end the game that way.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Wow.
- 4:40Speaker 1: That sounds like a specialty rule.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I would have learned that rule if I was Dave Dern.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Me too, because I would have done the same thing.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That's what I've always thought when you're taking the safety tear,
- 4:49Speaker 1: your guys are holding the end zone. Worst case is
- 4:52Speaker 1: they've got to take the safety.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yeah, this was very Mario Cristobal at the end of
- 4:55Speaker 3: the game. Look, I mean, C.J. Bailey shouldn't have fumbled,
- 4:57Speaker 3: but he went into contact. That's the one thing.
- 5:00Speaker 5: You can't be touched. I don't care how long. You
- 5:02Speaker 5: hold the ball as long as you're not going to
- 5:04Speaker 5: be touched. Once you're going to be touched, step out
- 5:06Speaker 5: of the back of the end zone.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Because at that point, it's two seconds maybe. If they
- 5:08Speaker 2: just get to you that quickly, it's two seconds. And
- 5:10Speaker 2: he's got a big arm. What happens if he chunks
- 5:13Speaker 2: the ball down the field?
- 5:14Speaker 1: But even on a free kick, we're going to burn up.
- 5:18Speaker 1: The two seconds. That's right. You can't kick it out
- 5:21Speaker 1: of bounds because you have to kick it again. But
- 5:23Speaker 1: if you can get it on the ground, you've got
- 5:24Speaker 1: a pretty good chance of a big guy getting it.
- 5:27Speaker 5: That's the only way you lose that game. And for
- 5:29Speaker 5: them to go to a separate clock, because I went
- 5:31Speaker 5: back and did it, when he finally got possession, it
- 5:35Speaker 5: was zeros on there. They went back and they pulled
- 5:38Speaker 5: a Michigan. They put a second on the clock and
- 5:40Speaker 5: they kicked the extra point. They ended up covering it.
- 5:42Speaker 5: It cost me from a 6-6 weekend– I mean, I
- 5:46Speaker 5: would have been 7-5 to 6-6.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It's a big difference.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Big difference. I talked to a former Division I football
- 5:54Speaker 1: player about it, and he said, because he reached out
- 5:57Speaker 1: to me, he's like, did you see the ending of
- 5:58Speaker 1: that game? I was like, yeah, I did. And he's like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: where you always get in trouble in college football is
- 6:02Speaker 1: when you do stuff you never do. You try to
- 6:05Speaker 1: do stuff you never do. And he's like, I get
- 6:06Speaker 1: not wanting to punt there, but you know what you
- 6:08Speaker 1: do every single day? You practice punting. And he goes,
- 6:11Speaker 1: they probably never practiced that. Like, why do you spend
- 6:14Speaker 1: time in practice practicing that? And I guess you don't
- 6:16Speaker 1: want to. But that's only coaches, though.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Like you talk about simulating like in practice, if you
- 6:21Speaker 5: run that play and I bet they have like we're
- 6:24Speaker 5: in this situation.
- 6:25Speaker 3: CJ, you're going to take this and you're going to
- 6:27Speaker 3: take the same.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Well, if you simulate it, the one thing you're not
- 6:29Speaker 5: going to do is have contact and practice on your quarterback.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's right.
- 6:32Speaker 3: So like the one thing is we can't have any
- 6:34Speaker 3: physical contact.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And you got plenty of time to explain it. Hey,
- 6:38Speaker 1: no contact. Stand at the back line.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Avoid it when they get close step out backwards and
- 6:42Speaker 2: whatever time's left we'll take it out to the 20
- 6:44Speaker 2: now i think that's where it is yep and then
- 6:46Speaker 2: we'll free kick that thing and then 11 of us
- 6:49Speaker 2: are going to go try to tackle them and uh
- 6:51Speaker 2: and the game's going to be over yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 5: And if you get beat on a bunch of laterals
- 6:54Speaker 5: and dave duran's just like i'll chalk it up to
- 6:56Speaker 5: a bet like there's no way cj bailey has slept
- 6:59Speaker 5: there's no way dave duran has slept You know, you
- 7:01Speaker 5: had the terrible week one loss to Virginia. And I
- 7:04Speaker 5: still talked about it. I think this NC State team
- 7:06Speaker 5: is still going to be good based on their schedule.
- 7:08Speaker 5: But to lose that game in the fashion they did.
- 7:10Speaker 5: And Jared Curtis, I'll say this, he's going to be
- 7:12Speaker 5: really good. Like, he turned the ball over. He kind
- 7:14Speaker 5: of played like Sam Levin in spots. Like, he runs downhill.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Careless with the football. That late pick was awful.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's the worst beat, though, not gambling-wise. I lost two, though,
- 7:25Speaker 1: in my pick three. I was on NC State. So
- 7:27Speaker 1: maybe that's why we lost this game. It only happens
- 7:30Speaker 1: to me.
- 7:30Speaker 5: No, that's the worst beat I've ever had. I could
- 7:33Speaker 5: give you two other ones that were right there with it,
- 7:35Speaker 5: but that is the worst I have ever had as
- 7:36Speaker 5: a gambler in my 40 years.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but just in losing a football game, you mentioned
- 7:43Speaker 2: not taking a knee, crystal ball in Miami. That would
- 7:46Speaker 2: make your top five.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Oh, it was terrible.
- 7:47Speaker 2: The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry game, the punt. But, I mean,
- 7:51Speaker 2: even that, that's a punt. Well, the punter just dropped
- 7:54Speaker 2: the ball. Things can happen.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But this, to me, is the worst way to lose a.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Game of all time. It's worse than fourth and 31.
- 8:05Speaker 2: It's the worst thing ever.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I know you guys were watching at the end. Unfortunately,
- 8:08Speaker 5: I watched the entire game, like every snap.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It was a yucky game.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Because NC State's one of my ten teams, and I
- 8:14Speaker 5: had them. It was my first game of the day.
- 8:16Speaker 5: But it was 1,000 degrees. It was, on record, the
- 8:19Speaker 5: hottest game ever in that stadium. So you grind it out.
- 8:22Speaker 5: You lead every second of the game until the final second.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That's right. And you're trying to do something you don't
- 8:27Speaker 1: normally do, and you screw it up. And that's where
- 8:30Speaker 1: that one's going to stick with you. I don't know.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I don't know how you get over it.
- 8:35Speaker 5: I know you think I think Dave Duren is the
- 8:37Speaker 5: Mark Stoops of NC State football.
- 8:39Speaker 3: He has done a really solid job there. I'd fire him.
- 8:41Speaker 3: If they're looking for a reason to fire him. I'd
- 8:43Speaker 3: fire him. That's a fireable offense to me.
- 8:47Speaker 8: Jim, have I ever told you the story of how
- 8:49Speaker 8: we lost in the victory formation in high school?
- 8:51Speaker 1: That's hard to do, bro. It's never come up in
- 8:54Speaker 1: our conversation. You're talking about worst ways to ever lose.
- 8:57Speaker 8: We fumbled the snap in victory formation yesterday. The quarterback
- 9:01Speaker 8: bent down to pick up the football and accidentally kicked
- 9:04Speaker 8: it through the entire line's legs. The safety for Rome
- 9:07Speaker 8: High School picks it up and runs it back for
- 9:09Speaker 8: a touchdown, and we lost.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That's a bad beat right there.
- 9:11Speaker 1: We all saw Herm Edwards and the Giants and the Eagles.
- 9:14Speaker 1: That's a bad one. This is worse than that. That's
- 9:16Speaker 1: why you've got the victory formation. Nobody ever did victory
- 9:19Speaker 1: formation right before that.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I think in all the right moves, I think Tom Cruise,
- 9:22Speaker 5: the reason he wasn't on the bus, because I think
- 9:25Speaker 5: they lost in a rain situation in victory formation.
- 9:27Speaker 3: That's right. It was down around the goal line.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Was that a penalty on him that kept it alive
- 9:34Speaker 1: or something?
- 9:34Speaker 5: Yeah, pass interference. I still can't believe what we saw
- 9:39Speaker 5: on Saturday. I just cannot believe they put all of
- 9:43Speaker 5: this work into it. Clark Lee is such a classy guy.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I don't know if you saw it after the game,
- 9:48Speaker 5: the interview. He's like, give NC State credit. They beat
- 9:52Speaker 5: us today. They were the better team. They asked him
- 9:55Speaker 5: about celebrating. He was like, look, these games, to win
- 9:57Speaker 5: a game in college football is really difficult. I'm going
- 9:59Speaker 5: to let these guys celebrate because they deserve it. You know,
- 10:01Speaker 5: we found a way to win this game.
- 10:03Speaker 3: It felt like a loss. It's crazy because they're not
- 10:05Speaker 3: very good, and they're 3-0.
- 10:06Speaker 8: I know.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Here is Clark Lee after the game talking about Vandy's win.
- 10:11Speaker 10: Just looking at the clock, I knew that we were
- 10:13Speaker 10: going to– we had timeouts. I think we had two
- 10:14Speaker 10: left at the time. I knew that we were going
- 10:17Speaker 10: to be able to force them to a fourth down.
- 10:19Speaker 10: you know, and, um, again, it came down to, to
- 10:23Speaker 10: the six seconds there. And, um, yeah, I mean, I,
- 10:28Speaker 10: I can't put into words how I felt. I can't
- 10:31Speaker 10: put into words how I felt when I realized that
- 10:34Speaker 10: we had, as that play extended, I thought we're going to.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Get the ball out and we got the ball out.
- 10:42Speaker 10: And, um, then you wait for the review and, and
- 10:46Speaker 10: it's just like, I don't know, man. So there's so
- 10:50Speaker 10: many things about the game that I don't want to
- 10:52Speaker 10: remember on the walls of the facility. But I think
- 10:54Speaker 10: what I'm proud about is the fight to the very
- 10:56Speaker 10: end and every blade of grass and all those things.
- 10:58Speaker 10: And so in that way, it's a very special, special win.
- 11:00Speaker 5: You know, he had a field goal blocking on that
- 11:02Speaker 5: final game. So they were collapsing down. And that's another thing.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Like if you're Dave Duren and you see that, take
- 11:08Speaker 5: a penalty. Like, what's he going to do? Figure out
- 11:11Speaker 5: what you really are doing offensively on that final play.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Take every delay a game you can take until you've
- 11:16Speaker 1: got this right. Until everybody knows exactly what we're doing.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Because how far are they moving the ball in that
- 11:21Speaker 1: delay a game?
- 11:22Speaker 3: That's right.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I mean, they're not even moving the ball, basically. At
- 11:24Speaker 1: some point, they can't. And by the way, you're wanting
- 11:26Speaker 1: to get... You want the ball to end up in
- 11:27Speaker 1: the end zone where you hold it, so you don't
- 11:29Speaker 1: care how close they get. Just a terrible way to
- 11:31Speaker 1: lose that game. Brownie, pick us another game. I forgot
- 11:35Speaker 1: it was my pick.
- 11:36Speaker 3: My apologies.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Um... I wouldn't go to Lance. Lance, pick another one. Lance,
- 11:40Speaker 1: pick another one.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I got caught up in the excitement.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Camario Taylor.
- 11:43Speaker 5: I was unsure what was going to happen in Columbia
- 11:46Speaker 5: just based on the fact that there was all this momentum,
- 11:49Speaker 5: but great players find a way to win even if
- 11:52Speaker 5: the gambling public is behind them.
- 11:53Speaker 3: And that's what you saw with Camario Taylor.
- 11:55Speaker 2: 16-0. They're down 16-0. We've all been to that place
- 11:59Speaker 2: in Columbia. We know what a tough, tough place it
- 12:03Speaker 2: is to play. And then your Mississippi State, I mean,
- 12:06Speaker 2: what was Levy?
- 12:07Speaker 10: 1-2.
- 12:07Speaker 2: 12, something like that, in SEC games, and you're down 16-0.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And they pick it up, and they're coming back. And
- 12:16Speaker 1: it looked like what everybody was saying about you. We've
- 12:19Speaker 1: anointed this Camario Taylor a little too early, haven't we?
- 12:22Speaker 1: Same old Mississippi State.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Same old Mississippi State.
- 12:26Speaker 5: This kid, man, like you know he can run it,
- 12:30Speaker 5: there's no doubt, but his touch that he puts on it,
- 12:34Speaker 5: he's just got one of those– He's got every pitch.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That's what everybody keeps saying.
- 12:40Speaker 3: He's got every pitch.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Absolutely, because he can put touch on it. He throws
- 12:43Speaker 5: a great deep ball. When he needs to throw an
- 12:46Speaker 5: out and have a little bit of something on it,
- 12:48Speaker 5: he does it. Didn't really use the legs on Saturday
- 12:51Speaker 5: because he didn't have to. He was too busy spinning
- 12:54Speaker 5: it around for the four touchdowns. Did have the one pick.
- 12:57Speaker 5: I like Jeff Lebby. I don't know where you guys
- 12:58Speaker 5: are on him.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I've always liked him.
- 13:00Speaker 3: He's got him a quarterback. This has been the difference.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I've always liked Lebby. I just thought he took one
- 13:05Speaker 1: of the toughest jobs in the SEC. And I thought
- 13:08Speaker 1: he was showing promise, but the record was just never
- 13:10Speaker 1: going to catch up with that, and it was going
- 13:12Speaker 1: to end up probably costing him like it does a
- 13:13Speaker 1: lot of coaches. No, not so. They're 3-0, and they've
- 13:17Speaker 1: got a chance to make some real noise.
- 13:18Speaker 5: And he's got an underrated running back in Fluff Buffalo.
- 13:21Speaker 3: 115 yards. I mean, Camario is really, really good.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Pretty good receiving core.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Are you going to have the money to keep him
- 13:29Speaker 3: next year?
- 13:29Speaker 6: That's it.
- 13:30Speaker 2: That's the joke on social media while Mississippi State's playing games.
- 13:34Speaker 2: If you ever jump on Twitter while they're playing– everyone's like, man,
- 13:39Speaker 2: not Mississippi State fans, man, that guy's going to look
- 13:41Speaker 2: good in Miami's.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Orange and green next year.
- 13:44Speaker 1: He's going to look good for Miami next year.
- 13:45Speaker 5: They've got like a quarterback liaison where, hey, look, this
- 13:48Speaker 5: is your job is just to scout out quarterbacks the
- 13:50Speaker 5: entire offseason because we're going to go steal somebody's quarterback.
- 13:54Speaker 5: But now what is a quarterback worth? Are they worth
- 13:56Speaker 5: $ 8 million?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 13:58Speaker 2: This guy with this size and all the pitches. If
- 14:01Speaker 2: he finishes, if he sticks to the landing, 100%. He
- 14:03Speaker 2: could be our first $ 10 million player.
- 14:05Speaker 5: You know, we told people last week with these Mississippi
- 14:08Speaker 5: State tickets not being expensive in two weeks for Alabama,
- 14:11Speaker 5: go on and buy them.
- 14:12Speaker 3: But this is a dangerous game coming up this weekend,
- 14:14Speaker 3: is it not, for Mississippi State?
- 14:15Speaker 1: They're sick. I mean, think about this.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Mississippi State is now ranked, a little rat poison, they're 24th.
- 14:21Speaker 2: They're playing Missouri, who is 19th. So it's a top
- 14:25Speaker 2: 25 matchup in Starkville. A week ahead of Alabama, and
- 14:29Speaker 2: I've got friends who are already talking about, I'm going
- 14:31Speaker 2: to stay in Alabama. I'm going to be there for that.
- 14:33Speaker 2: We're going to get Bama this year. We're going to
- 14:35Speaker 2: get Bama this year. And they're almost a touchdown favorite
- 14:38Speaker 2: against 19th-ranked Missouri.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Still, that's a really, really dangerous game because if you
- 14:44Speaker 5: watch Missouri squeak by Troy, they did nothing. They were
- 14:46Speaker 5: 2 of 11 on third downs. They showed nothing offensively.
- 14:50Speaker 5: It's almost like Eli Drinkwitz knew how difficult this game
- 14:53Speaker 5: in Starkville was going to be.
- 14:54Speaker 1: We are to the point, though, and Texas A &
- 14:56Speaker 1: M Kentucky is a great example of this, that college
- 14:58Speaker 1: football with the portal and all of this has turned
- 15:01Speaker 1: into the NFL in this aspect. One week's results do
- 15:04Speaker 1: not indicate the next at all. Like Kentucky gets run
- 15:07Speaker 1: out of their stadium in the second half by Alabama
- 15:10Speaker 1: and then turns around and goes and dominates A & M.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Like that was not a fluke victory for them. They
- 15:14Speaker 1: dominated A & M. And State plays the way they played.
- 15:17Speaker 1: They could turn right around and lay an egg against Missouri.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Does not surprise me at all.
- 15:21Speaker 5: After the Minnesota win, I said I've got this feeling
- 15:24Speaker 5: that that game's going to be really difficult for Alabama.
- 15:26Speaker 5: I've got a feeling Mississippi State wins the game. Alabama
- 15:28Speaker 5: fans got really upset, stupid comment, whatever. Do you think
- 15:31Speaker 5: Alabama fans are nervous now?
- 15:34Speaker 2: Maggie asked me after the Florida State game, she's like
- 15:38Speaker 2: 50 to 36. Why are you not more upset? You
- 15:41Speaker 2: didn't think it was going to be that close, did you?
- 15:43Speaker 2: And I was like, I am at the point now
- 15:46Speaker 2: where there is no Saturday. I just assume Alabama is
- 15:49Speaker 2: going to win. No Saturday, including South Carolina this weekend.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And I don't care what the final score is and
- 15:55Speaker 2: how it looks getting there. A win is a win
- 15:58Speaker 2: is a win. It's very NFL-like. It doesn't matter what
- 16:00Speaker 2: the score is.
- 16:01Speaker 1: That's right. You just get to the win now.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Just get the win and celebrate the win. And that's
- 16:05Speaker 2: exactly what you were saying. The parity is spread out
- 16:09Speaker 2: so much, especially in the SEC. It doesn't matter what
- 16:12Speaker 2: the score is.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Just go win.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Let's just say that Alabama wins by 14. I'm putting these.
- 16:17Speaker 3: If you ask the robot a final score, they're going
- 16:19Speaker 3: to give you right at the spread. Of course they are.
- 16:21Speaker 5: So let's say that Alabama wins by 14, Mississippi State
- 16:23Speaker 5: wins by 7.
- 16:24Speaker 3: At that point.
- 16:25Speaker 1: That's what Bama fans want.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I think Alabama is a six-point favorite in Starkville.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I think, and my believer, I believe, is the one
- 16:32Speaker 1: that said it right here in the chat. I'd have
- 16:33Speaker 1: to dig back. Chat's moving fast. But he's right. I
- 16:35Speaker 1: think if you're a Bama fan, you want them beating Missouri.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Get them as high as ranked as they could be.
- 16:41Speaker 1: as confident as they can be, that's a better formula,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I think, for you as an Alabama fan going over there.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Did the Mississippi State game get more difficult than A &
- 16:47Speaker 5: M for Alabama?
- 16:49Speaker 1: I personally don't think so. I don't either.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Because of the talent on the field. But again, when
- 16:56Speaker 2: you start looking around the SEC, there are 10 teams
- 16:58Speaker 2: that are ranked. I mean, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia. Even when
- 17:03Speaker 2: you play Oklahoma, their defense. Ole Miss, Florida. South Carolina
- 17:07Speaker 2: still has got some dudes. Bama, A & M, LSU, Missouri,
- 17:11Speaker 2: Mississippi State. Auburn ain't that bad. Vanderbilt ain't that bad. No,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I mean, other than Arkansas.
- 17:18Speaker 1: It's like the NFL. When we do NFL schedules, everybody's
- 17:22Speaker 1: got a tough schedule in the NFL. And you do
- 17:23Speaker 1: that in the SEC right now. Other than Arkansas. Other
- 17:26Speaker 1: than Arkansas. Well, they're just the Dolphins. The Arkansas Dolphins.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Their schedule's tough because they're the worst team.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Imagine this. If Oklahoma had Kamario Taylor.
- 17:34Speaker 1: They would trade N.A. Harvey right now.
- 17:36Speaker 2: All right, more college football coming up. But if you're wondering,
- 17:41Speaker 2: 10 SEC teams in the AP poll this week. There
- 17:46Speaker 2: are seven Big Ten, four Big 12, three ACC, and
- 17:49Speaker 2: one Notre Dame. That's your AP Top 25. Ten, and
- 17:54Speaker 2: that includes Mississippi State, ranked after week three. Here's Jeff
- 17:58Speaker 2: Lebbe after the win on the road, and now they
- 18:02Speaker 2: go home. for a couple of games.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I know that 3-0 probably isn't a huge surprise to
- 18:09Speaker 6: you because you know what you have on this team,
- 18:11Speaker 6: but have you learned anything about this team that you
- 18:14Speaker 6: might not have already known about them, or is this
- 18:17Speaker 6: exactly what you expected?
- 18:18Speaker 3: This is exactly what I expected.
- 18:20Speaker 7: This was the expectation for everybody in that locker room
- 18:23Speaker 7: every single day. I knew or I thought I knew
- 18:27Speaker 7: how we would respond. But, again, until you go do it,
- 18:30Speaker 7: you don't really know. And, again, that's the thing that
- 18:33Speaker 7: I'm most proud of. We're going to have to do
- 18:35Speaker 7: the same thing at some point coming up over the
- 18:39Speaker 7: next nine weeks. That's the reality of playing in this conference. But, man,
- 18:44Speaker 7: there should be great belief from our guys. There is
- 18:46Speaker 7: great belief in just settling in. reset play the next
- 18:51Speaker 7: play go find a way to win because we got
- 18:52Speaker 7: good football.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Players locker room absolutely bumping they got any bass in
- 18:56Speaker 1: that speaker in the locker room.
- 18:58Speaker 5: If you're trying to project them out though I mean
- 19:00Speaker 5: how many wins now it's so.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Hard I mean they were 3-0 last year but these
- 19:04Speaker 1: are better wins than they were last 3-0 last year
- 19:06Speaker 1: lost heartbreakers to Tennessee and Texas at home I feel
- 19:10Speaker 1: like those types of games they're going to win some
- 19:12Speaker 1: of those I mean You start looking at the remainder
- 19:14Speaker 1: of their schedule.
- 19:15Speaker 5: I think they've got Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Tennessee Tech. So
- 19:18Speaker 5: I think that puts them at six. I'll give them
- 19:20Speaker 5: a split coming up at home, seven.
- 19:22Speaker 3: They might get eight wins.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I mean, they catch Oklahoma at home. Yeah, I would
- 19:25Speaker 1: take them over. If they played Oklahoma at home Saturday,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I'd like to stay in that game. Oklahoma's broken on offense.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And I think Camario Taylor, as good as Oklahoma's defense is,
- 19:34Speaker 1: can move the ball.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I think seven or eight is your number, which is,
- 19:37Speaker 5: I mean, that's fantastic.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great job. And on the other side
- 19:40Speaker 1: of that, real quick, I think the clock could start
- 19:43Speaker 1: ticking now, potentially, on Beamer. That was a devastating loss
- 19:46Speaker 1: for him. And they're they're about to start stacking up
- 19:48Speaker 1: some losses too potentially in sec play uh levy is
- 19:51Speaker 1: 2 and 15 shane beamer is now 16 and 25
- 19:56Speaker 1: just in sec play yeah i mean i again it's
- 19:59Speaker 1: one of those deals where you want to say i
- 20:01Speaker 1: don't know what south carolina fans.
- 20:03Speaker 5: I mean, 16-25 for South Carolina is about what I
- 20:06Speaker 5: would expect.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But fans anymore are not willing to say, yeah, that's
- 20:09Speaker 1: who we are. We're 16-25. That's who we are. In
- 20:11Speaker 1: the NIO world, they're not willing to say that.
- 20:13Speaker 3: But, you know, as a home favorite, you're up double digits.
- 20:15Speaker 3: That's a game you shouldn't lose.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And it's still that logo. It's still Mississippi State.
- 20:20Speaker 2: And I give Jeff Lebby credit, by the way, that
- 20:22Speaker 2: he's embracing the interlocking MSU. It is a much better
- 20:25Speaker 2: logo than the banner M, which I think they're doing
- 20:29Speaker 2: away with. I even like the script state, even though
- 20:32Speaker 2: it's a very musical S.
- 20:34Speaker 1: That is a triple cliff, isn't it?
- 20:36Speaker 2: But that MSU, man, that interlocking MSU is a legit logo.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Love that a lot, and Levy embraces it.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Real quick, South Carolina, you know, they're 2-1 right now.
- 20:45Speaker 5: I think they have a better chance of losing every
- 20:48Speaker 5: game moving forward than they do of getting bowl eligible.
- 20:51Speaker 3: For sure.
- 20:53Speaker 1: There again, that's why the clock might be ticking.
- 20:55Speaker 2: That's Shane Beamer in South Carolina who is on a
- 20:59Speaker 2: hot seat. There's no two ways about it. And a
- 21:02Speaker 2: little bitty kid, I mean, had to be like 11,
- 21:04Speaker 2: got caught on TV during the broadcast. And they were
- 21:08Speaker 2: showing him cheering in the stands. And all the kid,
- 21:10Speaker 2: all you can hear is the kid saying, fire Beamer,
- 21:13Speaker 2: fire Beamer. And he's like 11 years old.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Kids like to repeat what their parents say.
- 21:18Speaker 1: His old man is going to say that. And put
- 21:20Speaker 1: dinner on the table. Fire Beamer and put dinner on
- 21:23Speaker 1: the table. When we come back, more college football. This
- 21:26Speaker 1: is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on
- 21:29Speaker 1: Sporting State.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Back with you on the next round.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Always brought to you by Hard Rock Bet. Go download
- 21:34Speaker 2: that app and see if you're available. Hardrock.bet backslash clay. Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee,
- 21:43Speaker 2: and Virginia. Before Brownie finally picks a game for us
- 21:48Speaker 2: to talk about, I did want to ask, will this
- 21:52Speaker 2: be the first time? This is something you can look up, Brooks.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You'll have to go back and research things. Will this
- 21:57Speaker 2: be the first time College Game Day has back-to-back pickers
- 22:03Speaker 2: with the same first name. Last week, Morgan Freeman.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Oh.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Is there a chance we get Morgan Wallen this week
- 22:12Speaker 2: in Knoxville? And will that be the first time we
- 22:15Speaker 2: ever go back-to-back first name Morgan Morgan in back-to-back week
- 22:18Speaker 2: on College Game Day?
- 22:19Speaker 3: Probably so.
- 22:20Speaker 5: This is the first game day that I was all
- 22:24Speaker 5: in on because I wanted to see Morgan Freeman pick.
- 22:27Speaker 3: You didn't get a lot from him.
- 22:28Speaker 10: No.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Morgan's showing his age, unfortunately.
- 22:30Speaker 3: But he's 89 years old.
- 22:32Speaker 5: To be able to walk up on the stage and
- 22:34Speaker 5: even have a conversation is pretty impressive.
- 22:36Speaker 1: He's still got a presence, though. Morgan Freeman does. I
- 22:38Speaker 1: think he's beloved. He had some funny lines. He did.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He did. Actually, I think he made an appearance on
- 22:44Speaker 1: this week's SEC Shorts as well.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Oh, did he really?
- 22:47Speaker 5: No, it's hard for him to get any words in
- 22:49Speaker 5: because the McAfee guy talks all the freaking time.
- 22:51Speaker 1: He is the energy of the show, I think. I
- 22:53Speaker 1: don't know why he kept calling himself a turncoat. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: couldn't figure out what he meant by that. I don't
- 22:56Speaker 1: know if he was just hung up on that word
- 22:58Speaker 1: or something.
- 22:59Speaker 5: I think it was when he was going to give
- 23:01Speaker 5: out Mississippi State as a play.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Maybe that was it, but he kept going back to it.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but it was fun seeing him there, and he
- 23:07Speaker 2: seemed to have a good time, as all Ole Miss
- 23:09Speaker 2: folks did this past weekend. Tell us about Clay Travis Law, LT,
- 23:13Speaker 2: and we'll– continue our college football conversation.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Yeah, accidents do not wait for a good time. One
- 23:18Speaker 5: bad decision, or one bad moment, I should say. A wreck,
- 23:21Speaker 5: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly, you're
- 23:24Speaker 5: fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 23:27Speaker 5: That's why Clay started Clay Travis Law.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Built a firm around one idea.
- 23:31Speaker 5: People deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions,
- 23:34Speaker 5: and push back when things don't add up. Experienced trial

- 23:40Speaker 5: in Nashville, trusted across the country. They lead negotiations with
- 23:43Speaker 5: with honesty, determination, and some Southern grit. Car and truck wrecks,
- 23:47Speaker 5: rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, case evaluation, absolutely free. No charge,
- 23:53Speaker 5: no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story. Go
- 23:55Speaker 5: to claytravislaw.com. Or call 877-222-4444. That's ClayTravisLaw.com. No case too
- 24:03Speaker 5: big or too small.
- 24:04Speaker 1: One obvious one on the board, Brownie. Let's see if
- 24:06Speaker 1: you go to it. If I may step out of
- 24:07Speaker 1: the SEC for a moment. Have I stepped out of
- 24:09Speaker 1: the SEC? Is that the obvious one?
- 24:10Speaker 5: It is.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And go to a Top 25 matchup Friday night, Houston
- 24:14Speaker 1: at Texas Tech. That was not the obvious one. You
- 24:16Speaker 1: were thinking I was going to go a little SMU.
- 24:17Speaker 1: That's a good one. First of all, Connor Wegman's a
- 24:21Speaker 1: fantastic quarterback. He's the best quarterback you're probably not watching
- 24:24Speaker 1: enough if you're not watching a lot of Houston, and
- 24:26Speaker 1: he made some spectacular throws in this game. My takeaway
- 24:28Speaker 1: from this game, though, 28-26, Texas Tech wins at home.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Houston went for two to try to force overtime, couldn't convert.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Very close. Game of inches. Very much is a game
- 24:39Speaker 1: of inches, and they got the call right, but Texas
- 24:41Speaker 1: Tech's flying too close to the sun. This team is
- 24:44Speaker 1: not what we thought this team was going to be.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Doesn't mean they can't still win the Big 12, but
- 24:49Speaker 1: for anybody that thought they were just going to walk
- 24:50Speaker 1: through undefeated and be the obvious Big 12 champion, that
- 24:54Speaker 1: is not going to happen with this Texas Tech team.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I agree with you, and we had Houston plus the
- 24:59Speaker 5: points on Friday night. I thought that they might get
- 25:00Speaker 5: the outright win, but when you start to look at
- 25:02Speaker 5: the schedule... They get Arizona State, Arizona, and West Virginia
- 25:07Speaker 5: at home. Their most difficult road game is probably.
- 25:09Speaker 3: At Oak State.
- 25:10Speaker 1: This game was at home, too, and they darn near
- 25:12Speaker 1: lost it.
- 25:12Speaker 5: Yeah, but Houston is pretty good. I mean, they're a
- 25:15Speaker 5: top 25-ish team.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Still there.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Number 25 in the AP poll didn't drop out. First
- 25:21Speaker 2: of all, you fall behind. Now you've got to come back.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I thought it was good for Joey McGuire and that
- 25:27Speaker 2: team to show a little intestinal fortitude and have to
- 25:31Speaker 2: rally back.
- 25:32Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Castellanos is going to have a pretty big role, I believe,
- 25:38Speaker 2: down the road. It started shaky, unfortunately, for him.
- 25:40Speaker 1: No, no, absolutely. That first time he came in. That's
- 25:42Speaker 1: who he is, though. Yeah, I mean, that's true. That's
- 25:44Speaker 1: kind of what you have to deal with with him, right?
- 25:46Speaker 1: But I think you're going to have to have two
- 25:48Speaker 1: quarterbacks all year long. But unfortunately for Castellanos, you do
- 25:51Speaker 1: have to deal with that some. You did at Florida State.
- 25:53Speaker 1: But if he's playing an entire game, he makes up
- 25:55Speaker 1: for those bad plays. But if you use him in
- 25:56Speaker 1: spot duty, he might not get to make up for
- 25:59Speaker 1: those bad plays. And that was kind of the case
- 26:01Speaker 1: Friday night. Yeah, they did run it a little bit
- 26:03Speaker 1: more with Wilton.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Hammond yeah you know i mean they survived and again
- 26:08Speaker 5: that's probably their second most difficult game.
- 26:10Speaker 1: They might be it might be the most difficult opponent
- 26:13Speaker 1: that they play all year.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Yeah they're gonna be a fugazi they're gonna get to
- 26:16Speaker 5: probably the big 12 championship game not being good yeah
- 26:20Speaker 5: and then get exposed maybe against byu or utah.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Yeah probably one of those one of those they don't
- 26:25Speaker 1: play in the regular season.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Maybe the winner of the holy war i will say
- 26:27Speaker 2: this though that Texas Tech's defense, they're not going to
- 26:32Speaker 2: be as good as they were last year. They looked
- 26:33Speaker 2: a little bit better with White and Trick coming off
- 26:37Speaker 2: the edges, just a little bit better against that good
- 26:39Speaker 2: Houston offense. All right, LT, I'll pick a game here.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Let me go to SMU and Louisville, that game of
- 26:47Speaker 2: two top 25 teams.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And this is caught in the moment, caught in the moment, Jim,
- 26:55Speaker 1: but Louisville can play with Miami.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. They beat them last year.
- 27:01Speaker 5: I mean, you've got stock up, stock down coming later
- 27:03Speaker 5: in the show, but I've got a stock up, and
- 27:06Speaker 5: it has to do with Louisville, and I've got a
- 27:08Speaker 5: stock down, and it has to do with Miami.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I need to change my stock up because my stock
- 27:12Speaker 1: up was Louisville as well. But let me point out,
- 27:13Speaker 1: they don't get Miami until potentially the championship game.
- 27:16Speaker 2: No, I know, but everybody's saying Miami, Miami, Miami. This
- 27:20Speaker 2: Louisville team only lost to Ole Miss in a heck
- 27:23Speaker 2: of a game. They had a chance to win that one. Lance,
- 27:27Speaker 2: Keen Holtz and the running backs, they play physical on defense.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I like everything I see about this Louisville team.
- 27:34Speaker 5: I told you guys with Mendoza this is easier because
- 27:38Speaker 5: people are watching, but Keen Holtz might end up being
- 27:40Speaker 5: a Heisman finalist this year. He's my favorite quarterback to
- 27:43Speaker 5: watch right now. The moments have not been too big.
- 27:46Speaker 5: He has been great. And then when you've got Keen
- 27:48Speaker 5: Holtz and his ability to run the football, Keewon Brown
- 27:51Speaker 5: and Isaac Brown. Isaac Brown, 8.8 yards per carry last year.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Kiwan Brown averaged 16 yards a carry on Saturday, going
- 28:00Speaker 5: 163 yards with a couple of touchdowns. I mean, they
- 28:02Speaker 5: can run the football. The Kevin Jennings turnover on the
- 28:06Speaker 5: goal line was a killer.
- 28:07Speaker 1: That's what you get with Kevin Jennings. Kevin Jennings is
- 28:09Speaker 1: going to make us... I can't remember the guest we had.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It was like Kevin Jennings is like, oh, wow, oh, wow, oh, wow, oh, no.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I mean, that's who he is.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Yeah, three turnovers on the road against Louisville. That was
- 28:20Speaker 3: the difference.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Now, when you talk about Louisville, not that this matters
- 28:23Speaker 1: because they've got to win the ACC and they're eventually
- 28:25Speaker 1: going to have to play Miami. But stop me when
- 28:27Speaker 1: you hear a game you don't think Louisville's going to
- 28:29Speaker 1: win right here, guys. They host Wake.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Not ranked.
- 28:32Speaker 1: You're going to read a lot of not ranked teams here.
- 28:34Speaker 1: There will not be a top 25 team I'm about
- 28:36Speaker 1: to mention at NC State.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know where NC State's going to be.
- 28:40Speaker 1: How do they dig themselves up? Host Florida State, at Syracuse,
- 28:44Speaker 1: host Stanford, at Georgia Tech, at North Carolina, host Pitt.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And what might be their toughest remaining game is at Kentucky.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if the game was at Pitt, it would be
- 28:53Speaker 3: somewhat difficult. But yeah, I agree. I mean, I think
- 28:55Speaker 3: they're probably going to run the tape.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I mean, they've played their two ranked teams, Ole Miss
- 28:59Speaker 1: and SMU, and that may be it.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Now, what would be interesting is if they are 11-1
- 29:03Speaker 5: and they lose to an undefeated or a one-loss Miami team.
- 29:05Speaker 1: They're not going to have any good wins.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I still think they get in.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Atlanta still have zero good wins.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Because their loss would be against Ole Miss and then Miami.
- 29:12Speaker 2: And SMU is going to end up still being a
- 29:14Speaker 2: good win. SMU will not fall apart. They will win
- 29:16Speaker 2: a lot of games. I hope not for Rhett. We
- 29:18Speaker 2: like Rhett Lashley on this show. I was pulling for
- 29:20Speaker 2: him in that game. But Louisville's the better team.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And I'm with you. I think it's pretty apparent, whatever
- 29:27Speaker 1: attention you're paying to the ACC, Miami's your best team,
- 29:29Speaker 1: and I think Louisville's your second best team in the ACC.
- 29:31Speaker 3: I would say that.
- 29:33Speaker 1: With Virginia having lost at West Virginia.
- 29:34Speaker 5: And I think what people will say is, go back
- 29:36Speaker 5: to last year, like the ACC at that point would
- 29:38Speaker 5: get two in they'd get an at-large and they'd get
- 29:40Speaker 5: your your conference champion in and if I'm if I'm
- 29:44Speaker 5: Jeff Brom I would go back and I would tell
- 29:46Speaker 5: the committee hey you didn't even want Miami from the
- 29:48Speaker 5: ACC in last year and they played.
- 29:50Speaker 3: For the national championship you're sleeping on our.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Conference yeah now but.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Whether that's true or not probably not I do.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Think I do think it sets up for them Clemson
- 29:58Speaker 1: is no good I mean, they switched to Tate Reynolds,
- 30:01Speaker 1: didn't really change anything. I know they won the game
- 30:03Speaker 1: after a massive weather delay, but they're no good. He
- 30:05Speaker 1: got better as the game went on.
- 30:07Speaker 3: He did.
- 30:08Speaker 1: He did. I don't know if you saw the play
- 30:09Speaker 1: that ended the game, though, pretty much. I mean, Clemson's
- 30:12Speaker 1: up one, but they run a, I thought it was
- 30:14Speaker 1: a terrible play call by Chad Morris, and somehow it
- 30:17Speaker 1: ends up working, that reverse. And it's completely blown up,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and somehow the guy just cuts it back up the middle,
- 30:22Speaker 1: and nobody touches.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Him for North Carolina. Yeah, Clemson's got a lot of
- 30:24Speaker 3: losses coming up.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they're no good. I don't think North Carolina's any good.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I still think Virginia's pretty good, but West Virginia beat
- 30:30Speaker 1: them up a little bit there in Charlotte.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Well, West Virginia was almost stock up for me.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Because I Rich Rod seems like he has got the
- 30:37Speaker 5: closest thing to Pat White and Steve Slate in his
- 30:39Speaker 5: head when you look at Cam Cook and Michael Hawkins
- 30:42Speaker 5: and the way they're running that offense right now.
- 30:44Speaker 3: That's an exciting, fun team in the Big 12.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Let's let that be another pick. We'll talk about that
- 30:48Speaker 2: West Virginia-Virginia game because that was a win over a
- 30:51Speaker 2: top 25 team. You bring up the zone read offense
- 30:55Speaker 2: run attack that they had back in Pat White's day,
- 30:58Speaker 2: Michael Hawkins, and then Cam Cook, who did it at
- 31:01Speaker 2: Jack State just down the road from us here, He
- 31:04Speaker 2: carried it 30 times for 123 against a really good
- 31:07Speaker 2: Virginia defense. That was a fun game in Charlotte. 38-27,
- 31:10Speaker 2: West Virginia wins it.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Understandably, you didn't pay attention to Cam Cook at Jacksonville State.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I get that, but he was the nation. I'm not
- 31:15Speaker 1: saying you guys. I'm talking about the audience. People didn't
- 31:17Speaker 1: watch him at Jacksonville State, but he was the nation's
- 31:19Speaker 1: leading rusher for a large part of last year. And,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I mean, this guy is no flash in the pan.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Yeah, look, their ability to run the football, I mean,
- 31:27Speaker 5: it's not what you had 2006 West Virginia against. But
- 31:31Speaker 5: it's pretty close, 247 yards on the ground against that
- 31:34Speaker 5: really physical Virginia team. That was an impressive win.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And you get a home game with Oklahoma State as
- 31:40Speaker 2: they jump into Big 12 play this week for West Virginia.
- 31:42Speaker 3: That'll be a great game. It's right out of pick.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Right out of pick. Give me another game. In Morgantown,
- 31:48Speaker 1: that game's out of pick?
- 31:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 1: That's respect for Oklahoma State.
- 31:52Speaker 6: I know.
- 31:53Speaker 5: And back to what you guys were talking about, how
- 31:55Speaker 5: this is NFL-like with the parody week in, week out.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Still don't know how Oklahoma State lost that game to Tulsa.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Oklahoma State's good.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. Pick one. See what you come up with.
- 32:07Speaker 5: You know, you talk about the Big Ten and how
- 32:11Speaker 5: it doesn't come close week in, week out to the SEC.
- 32:13Speaker 1: They played no games last week.
- 32:14Speaker 5: How does USC– they've got to go all the way
- 32:16Speaker 5: to New Jersey to take on Rutgers, and now they've
- 32:18Speaker 5: got to come back to the Coliseum to take on
- 32:20Speaker 5: a ranked Oregon team.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I don't know how much of that game you guys watched.
- 32:23Speaker 5: Unfortunately, I wasted my big screen on that.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Terrible atmosphere.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Well, first off, tell me about your defense because there were–
- 32:33Speaker 2: How many drives of 75 yards for a touchdown?
- 32:35Speaker 1: Five of them?
- 32:36Speaker 3: They couldn't. I mean, K.J.
- 32:37Speaker 5: Duff, that receiver for Rutgers, he was a stud last year.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Nobody knows about him because Rutgers is so bad. But Lonergan,
- 32:44Speaker 5: former Alabama quarterback, turned it over too many times, but
- 32:47Speaker 5: he was good. Yeah, they were able to sustain drive
- 32:50Speaker 5: after drive after drive.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Gary Patterson didn't stay in Los Angeles, right? The defensive
- 32:55Speaker 2: coordinator went to Jersey and still put.
- 32:59Speaker 1: That out there?
- 32:59Speaker 3: On the Lance's Log Show on Friday night, I did
- 33:01Speaker 3: bring this up.
- 33:02Speaker 5: And I stayed away from the game, but I was like,
- 33:05Speaker 5: take Rutgers plus the points, and here's why.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Before the win at.
- 33:09Speaker 5: Purdue last year, USC had lost nine consecutive games in
- 33:12Speaker 5: the Eastern time zone. They just don't play well there,
- 33:15Speaker 5: and they look lethargic again.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Well, at least you brought your prophet with you because
- 33:19Speaker 2: if it wasn't for Prophet Brown and that, what was it,
- 33:22Speaker 2: a 99-yard kick return?
- 33:24Speaker 1: It ends up being the difference of the game.
- 33:26Speaker 5: Well, Trent Mosley didn't play. Your best playmaker on offense,
- 33:29Speaker 5: but still no excuse.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Is he going to be back for Oregon?
- 33:32Speaker 3: Maava was really, really good again. Is Mosley going to
- 33:34Speaker 3: be back for Oregon? I think so.
- 33:35Speaker 5: I think they rested him purposely for Rutgers, not thinking
- 33:38Speaker 5: they would need him.
- 33:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Got a little closer there.
- 33:41Speaker 1: A little closer than you wanted that to be.
- 33:42Speaker 3: But I joke around like that shouldn't be a game.
- 33:44Speaker 5: That's a game where you've got so many athletes you
- 33:47Speaker 5: should go and you should, you know, wipe.
- 33:49Speaker 3: The field with them.
- 33:50Speaker 5: And now Rutgers 0-3 for the first time since 2008.
- 33:53Speaker 5: But truthfully, that's coaching.
- 33:56Speaker 1: You didn't have your players prepared, whether it's mentally or physically.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I mean, fake punt. They get a fake punt. Rutgers
- 34:04Speaker 1: does from their own goal line.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 2: And you guys aren't ready for that. And That was
- 34:09Speaker 2: a team that wasn't focused on the job at hand.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Well, and they should have dominated up front. One sack
- 34:13Speaker 5: against that Rutgers offense. I mean, it was just a
- 34:15Speaker 5: piss-poor performance, and you hope that they were holding back.
- 34:20Speaker 2: It reminded me a lot of what Oregon put on
- 34:21Speaker 2: tape at Oklahoma State. They didn't seem like mentally they
- 34:25Speaker 2: were checked into that game because Oklahoma State had lost
- 34:27Speaker 2: to Tulsa, and they got it handed to them, and
- 34:29Speaker 2: now these two schizophrenic teams play a meaningful game at
- 34:32Speaker 2: the Coliseum, one of the best games of the week.
- 34:35Speaker 2: And I saw where Oregon opened as a skinny three-point favorite.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Is that about where it is?
- 34:39Speaker 5: It was USC opened as a one-and-a-half-point favorite. It flipped around.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Now I'm seeing Oregon one-and-a-half.
- 34:44Speaker 2: One-and-a-half is where it is now. So that's one of
- 34:47Speaker 2: the two, three, four of a great weekend coming up.
- 34:49Speaker 2: That's one of the two, three, four biggest games.
- 34:51Speaker 5: I don't know how you guys feel about that, but
- 34:53Speaker 5: back to the Gary Patterson defense. Total yards, USC 461,
- 34:57Speaker 5: Rutgers 460. If you give up 460 yards to Rutgers,
- 35:01Speaker 5: and now you've got an Oregon team that is fighting
- 35:04Speaker 5: for their lives.
- 35:04Speaker 7: I mean, if.
- 35:05Speaker 5: Oregon drops two games before September's out.
- 35:08Speaker 1: All I could think about, though, as Rutgers kept hanging in,
- 35:11Speaker 1: is we have had two 20-plus point dogs win outright
- 35:15Speaker 1: in the first two weeks of college football, one per week.
- 35:18Speaker 1: And this was that game. And I'm like, man, if
- 35:20Speaker 1: Rutgers finds a way to shock USC right here, to
- 35:23Speaker 1: have three of those happen in the first three weeks
- 35:25Speaker 1: is crazy.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Close enough to me with Kentucky, 16 points on the
- 35:29Speaker 2: road as a top 10 team.
- 35:30Speaker 1: That's pretty good.
- 35:31Speaker 2: All right, a couple more games as we wrap up.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Hard Rock Bet's next round today right here on Sporting State.

- 37:55Speaker 2: football we go. We'll save Auburn for the start of
- 37:59Speaker 2: the next round. Can I throw out Georgia? I was
- 38:03Speaker 2: picking that one, Georgia-Arkansas.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Georgia-Arkansas, 45-17. They've played nobody yet.
- 38:11Speaker 3: But the.
- 38:15Speaker 2: The way they attack their day-to-day operations against nobody, Georgia
- 38:19Speaker 2: looks so buttoned up to me right now. Well, you
- 38:22Speaker 2: got out of that game, listen to this now, on
- 38:24Speaker 2: the road in the SEC, and your quarterback only had
- 38:28Speaker 2: to throw 13 passes.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I mean, think about that.
- 38:29Speaker 3: 254 on the ground.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I know, but they treated that game like they were
- 38:33Speaker 1: playing Marshall at a conference in Athens. I mean, that's
- 38:38Speaker 1: the kind of numbers Gunnar Stockton would get in a game,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, at a conference like that.
- 38:42Speaker 3: 10 of 13, 147.
- 38:44Speaker 1: That was it.
- 38:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:46Speaker 5: But, you know, Frazier, Bowens. I mean, they've got so
- 38:48Speaker 5: many guys that can run the football. Their defense held
- 38:51Speaker 5: Arkansas to 17 rushing yards. Georgia, again, they haven't played anybody.
- 38:57Speaker 5: So Texas did have the comeback against Ohio State. But,
- 39:00Speaker 5: I mean, looking at these two teams, I think Georgia's.
- 39:02Speaker 3: The better team.
- 39:02Speaker 1: They're just demolishing people.
- 39:03Speaker 2: We'll show you tomorrow. our new SEC power rankings. But
- 39:08Speaker 2: I don't care. I test to me, Georgia still looks really,
- 39:12Speaker 2: really good. We'll see if they stay top of our
- 39:14Speaker 2: SEC power rating this week. For Kirby Smart, I know
- 39:18Speaker 2: eventually he understands how the SEC works. The schedule is
- 39:22Speaker 2: going to become much more difficult. Oklahoma this week at home,
- 39:26Speaker 2: he gets asked about blowout games after the win.
- 39:29Speaker 5: In your experience when you start the season with three blowouts,
- 39:34Speaker 5: are you able to still learn quite a bit about
- 39:36Speaker 5: your team when you have these type of games?
- 39:39Speaker 11: I don't know that I would call that a blowout.
- 39:40Speaker 11: I mean, y'all might say that, but I don't look
- 39:43Speaker 11: at SEC games that way. I mean, they're trying to
- 39:45Speaker 11: score the whole game. We're trying to stop them the
- 39:46Speaker 11: whole game. I don't even know what the score says.
- 39:48Speaker 11: I couldn't tell you the score right now. I don't
- 39:50Speaker 11: look at the scoreboard. I look at how we play
- 39:52Speaker 11: and never look at the scoreboard. So when you look
- 39:54Speaker 11: at the scoreboard, it affects things that are out of
- 39:56Speaker 11: your control a lot of times. So obviously situationally we'll
- 39:59Speaker 11: look at the scoreboard, but I'm not measuring our team
- 40:02Speaker 11: based on scores. I'm measuring our team based on execution.
- 40:05Speaker 11: Every week's a test. I mean, every week's a test, right?
- 40:08Speaker 11: This team could have not shown up today. This team
- 40:09Speaker 11: could have read the newspaper clippings and all the stuff
- 40:12Speaker 11: about Arkansas and all that. I mean, it's a nameless,
- 40:15Speaker 11: faceless opponent. We've got eight weeks in a row, man.
- 40:18Speaker 11: So strap it on.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and so far through three games, he's attacked it
- 40:24Speaker 2: exactly that way. His guys have attacked it that way,
- 40:27Speaker 2: and that's so impressive to me that there's no... I mean,
- 40:30Speaker 2: USC is so much better than Rutgers. You know what
- 40:33Speaker 2: I'm saying?
- 40:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but you're right. They come prepared.
- 40:36Speaker 4: It is.
- 40:37Speaker 3: the closest thing along with Cignetti and what Indiana is
- 40:40Speaker 3: doing right now.
- 40:41Speaker 5: To what you saw with Saban. And to me, Georgia
- 40:44Speaker 5: is the best team in college football right now. Like
- 40:46Speaker 5: the best resume is Ole Miss.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 3: But the best team in college football is Georgia.
- 40:50Speaker 2: And at some point, Indiana is going to get their
- 40:53Speaker 2: chance to prove that they're as good as they were
- 40:55Speaker 2: last year. Ohio State is really good. Texas has got
- 40:59Speaker 2: that win over Ohio State.
- 41:00Speaker 1: They're really good. But these guys are taking care of business,
- 41:02Speaker 1: and they'll get their chance to show us how good
- 41:04Speaker 1: they are. On the flip side of that.
- 41:06Speaker 3: But I think they're improved.
- 41:07Speaker 5: You know, those other teams you're talking about, like Indiana's
- 41:10Speaker 5: a step behind where they were last year.
- 41:12Speaker 2: And to your point, they look deeper. Their twos look
- 41:17Speaker 2: as good as their ones. This is almost old school depth.
- 41:20Speaker 2: And I want to see if that holds up against
- 41:23Speaker 2: real competition because they look, like you said, I agree.
- 41:26Speaker 2: They look better than they did last year. because they
- 41:28Speaker 2: look deeper than they do.
- 41:29Speaker 5: I know you guys are going to laugh about this.
- 41:31Speaker 5: They are going to have a scare this weekend, though,
- 41:33Speaker 5: against Oklahoma.
- 41:34Speaker 3: They are.
- 41:36Speaker 5: They haven't seen the team's speed at Oklahoma through their
- 41:39Speaker 5: first three weeks.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Oklahoma's going to drag you to the execution chamber, Liz.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Don't let them do it, man. Don't let them do it.
- 41:45Speaker 1: This is a trash Oklahoma team. This is a trash
- 41:51Speaker 1: Oklahoma team.
- 41:53Speaker 3: I mean, elite defense.
- 41:55Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if you can't play offense. Even Brent
- 41:58Speaker 1: Venables after the game, they ask him, we may have
- 42:00Speaker 1: the cut. I don't want to step on it if
- 42:01Speaker 1: we do. But they ask him, is there anything your
- 42:04Speaker 1: offense can hang your hat on?
- 42:06Speaker 3: It's so good.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Coach, is there anything your offense can hang your hat
- 42:10Speaker 1: on right now?
- 42:10Speaker 3: And Venables wants to say something.
- 42:12Speaker 1: He wants to say something. But he's like, I can't
- 42:15Speaker 1: be disingenuous. He goes, not really.
- 42:17Speaker 5: And I don't know how you can flip that.
- 42:21Speaker 3: In the middle of the season. You can't.
- 42:22Speaker 1: They are what they are. They've still got Arbuckle, and
- 42:24Speaker 1: they've still got Mateer.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Here's cut 17, and then, Forrester, after this, get the
- 42:30Speaker 2: pregame video I sent you from Oklahoma, too, because Lance
- 42:32Speaker 2: needs to see that because his Sooners are not as
- 42:35Speaker 2: buttoned up as he thinks they are.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Here's Brent Venables. Do you think you have something you
- 42:40Speaker 1: can hang your hat on offensively that right now that
- 42:44Speaker 1: when your offense goes out there, you say to yourself.
- 42:47Speaker 9: All right, I know we can do this well. Do
- 42:48Speaker 9: you have that?
- 42:49Speaker 4: Not really. You know, you watched the game. Did you
- 42:54Speaker 4: see anything? No, but you know football. No, I mean,
- 42:58Speaker 4: obviously we haven't done that. We haven't gotten to a rhythm,
- 43:00Speaker 4: you know, with really much of anything. But, you know,
- 43:05Speaker 4: we're just too erratic and not consistent enough, not enough
- 43:09Speaker 4: rhythm to what we're doing. And even the, you know,
- 43:15Speaker 4: we're our own worst enemy. We have the worst penalties
- 43:17Speaker 4: at the worst times, it seems like, you know, really.
- 43:21Speaker 4: We get the ball with good field position, and then
- 43:23Speaker 4: we get a false start, and then we get a hold.
- 43:26Speaker 4: Next thing you know, we're punting again. Nothing wrong with
- 43:31Speaker 4: the opponent making plays, and you're going to get got.
- 43:34Speaker 4: That's going to be part of football. But when we're
- 43:38Speaker 4: getting in our own way, whether it's discipline or just
- 43:43Speaker 4: the lack of focus, that's very discouraging.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I'll tell you this, and I didn't watch this game live.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I went back and shuttled through it. last night, he
- 43:53Speaker 2: chewed Ben Arbuckle at one point. He gave an old,
- 43:58Speaker 2: what are we doing?
- 43:59Speaker 1: To him on the sidelines.
- 44:00Speaker 5: They're doing is they're putting their defense on harm's way.
- 44:04Speaker 5: I mean, New Mexico was 3-14 on third downs, but
- 44:07Speaker 5: minus three in turnovers for Oklahoma.
- 44:09Speaker 3: That's what kept the game close. And if you go
- 44:11Speaker 3: back to the Michigan game, If Mateer doesn't have that
- 44:13Speaker 3: bad read on that pick. That's what he does. Yeah,
- 44:15Speaker 3: there's a good chance they win that game.
- 44:17Speaker 5: So anyway, my point is, I think you can win
- 44:19Speaker 5: with great defense, but you can't have your offense making
- 44:23Speaker 5: mistakes that put you in a bad situation.
- 44:24Speaker 1: And I get what you're saying, but you can't say
- 44:26Speaker 1: if Mateer doesn't make a bad read because that's what
- 44:28Speaker 1: Mateer does. And that's why they're in this situation. They
- 44:30Speaker 1: picked the wrong quarterback and they also picked the wrong
- 44:34Speaker 1: coordinator because they picked that wrong quarterback. And this is
- 44:38Speaker 1: that offense. I don't know that you can fix it.
- 44:40Speaker 1: It is so broken.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I do want to also talk about broken Arkansas.
- 44:44Speaker 2: If you can give me cut 18, Tyler. This would
- 44:48Speaker 2: bother me a little bit if I was an Arkansas
- 44:50Speaker 2: fan that we're to this point. And I just want
- 44:53Speaker 2: you to picture in your head that we could have
- 44:59Speaker 2: the chairman of the college football playoff selection committee, the
- 45:04Speaker 2: guy who goes out every week and tells us why
- 45:06Speaker 2: we've ranked everybody, and he could also be unemployed while
- 45:10Speaker 2: he's doing that. Because Hunter Urechek is, again, the chair
- 45:14Speaker 2: of the college football playoff committee. More time to watch
- 45:18Speaker 2: the games if he's unemployed. Everybody I talk to at Arkansas,
- 45:21Speaker 2: the frustration is not with Ryan Silverfield. It's with Hunter
- 45:25Speaker 2: Urechek because he's been talking about basically being a poverty
- 45:29Speaker 2: program at Arkansas, and we're not a poverty program. Before
- 45:36Speaker 2: the game and then after the game, the trustees of
- 45:40Speaker 2: Arkansas have announced– that they want to do a massive
- 45:43Speaker 2: review of the state of competitiveness in their athletic department,
- 45:48Speaker 2: which is going to fall right at Hunter Urchak's feet
- 45:52Speaker 2: that he hasn't been raising enough money. And basically, this
- 45:57Speaker 2: is what's going to open up the wallets of all
- 46:00Speaker 2: the big Arkansas people that they're tired of looking the
- 46:04Speaker 2: way they've looked on national television, the blowout to Utah,
- 46:07Speaker 2: the blowout to Georgia the last two weeks. And they're
- 46:09Speaker 2: about to do a review of the state of competitiveness.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Here's Ryan Silverfield on his frustration. Then I want you
- 46:15Speaker 2: guys to tell me what you would do at Arkansas.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Here's Ryan Silverfield.
- 46:22Speaker 9: Ryan, what is your own self-reflection, your emotions, personal frustration,
- 46:26Speaker 9: just given that as a college coach, you've never had
- 46:28Speaker 9: to deal with this kind of struggle?
- 46:29Speaker 1: That's right.
- 46:30Speaker 3: You're right.
- 46:31Speaker 9: But in 28 years of this deal, You fight fights, right?
- 46:35Speaker 9: I mean, I've been kicked in the teeth. I've been
- 46:37Speaker 9: knocked down before in this deal. If you're in this
- 46:39Speaker 9: thing long enough, you know, you've dealt with adversity. And
- 46:43Speaker 9: so this is not my first taste of adversity. Now,
- 46:46Speaker 9: we've had some success in the past, and I think
- 46:48Speaker 9: that's one of the reasons why I'm here. But what
- 46:49Speaker 9: it does for me is if anybody's around me, you'll
- 46:53Speaker 9: see me tomorrow and you'll say, man, he doesn't look
- 46:58Speaker 9: like a guy that's getting beat up in the media.
- 46:59Speaker 9: He doesn't look like a guy that the house is
- 47:02Speaker 9: burning down around.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Hell no.
- 47:04Speaker 9: I'm going to get off the damn mat like I
- 47:05Speaker 9: do every day, win, lose, or draw, and keep swinging.
- 47:08Speaker 9: I'm not going to sit here. Am I pissed?
- 47:11Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 47:12Speaker 9: Damn straight, I'm pissed off.
- 47:14Speaker 3: But guess what?
- 47:15Speaker 1: We're going to get this fixed.
- 47:16Speaker 9: And I've got great, great faith in everybody involved that
- 47:18Speaker 9: this thing is going to get turned around.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody involved is the key there, not just the players.
- 47:23Speaker 1: But he needs help.
- 47:25Speaker 2: He's got the— the least amount of money spent on
- 47:28Speaker 2: a roster than anybody else in the SEC. And you
- 47:31Speaker 2: guys have either done it last week or are going
- 47:33Speaker 2: to do it this week. When you start doing the
- 47:37Speaker 2: 1 through 16 in our SEC power ranking, you can
- 47:40Speaker 2: go all the way to 15 and you've got a
- 47:42Speaker 2: damn good football team.
- 47:43Speaker 1: It's hard going to 15. 16 is where I start
- 47:46Speaker 1: every week. I know who 16 is. When I send
- 47:50Speaker 1: it to Brooks, the one thing I don't have to
- 47:51Speaker 1: change is 16. We're about to talk Auburn in our
- 47:53Speaker 1: next segment. You're very close to putting Auburn at 15
- 47:57Speaker 1: right now.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you could.
- 47:59Speaker 2: And that's a team that's invested in the future with
- 48:02Speaker 2: their football program. Vandy has made an investment. Here comes State,
- 48:06Speaker 2: now nationally ranked. why is Arkansas not in the fight?
- 48:11Speaker 2: That's what I'd be asking. I took this job.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Are we not going to fight? Give me some money.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 48:16Speaker 5: And that's the problem because if you're a checks out,
- 48:18Speaker 5: he's the guy that hired him. You don't have– I mean,
- 48:21Speaker 5: when you're doing quarterback rankings, KJ Jackson is going to be–
- 48:24Speaker 5: Dead last.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he probably is dead last. They've got Tulsa at home.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Tough game.
- 48:30Speaker 3: It really is.
- 48:31Speaker 5: They should win that game. I'm going to give them
- 48:34Speaker 5: a win, but they're not winning another game.
- 48:35Speaker 3: So they're 2-10.
- 48:37Speaker 5: When you're losing your AD that hired you, I could see,
- 48:40Speaker 5: even with a deck stacked against.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Him, not fair, but I could see him get fired.
- 48:44Speaker 5: I don't know what the buyout looks like, but if
- 48:46Speaker 5: you really want a clean slate, if you're doing this
- 48:47Speaker 5: deep dive... That's not going to be the new AD's
- 48:50Speaker 5: guy anyway.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's gotten toxic. I mean, you've got the golf course
- 48:53Speaker 1: offering up tee times. You've got the fans that actually
- 48:55Speaker 1: did wear bags. The fans that were there. Walmart bags,
- 48:59Speaker 1: by the way.
- 48:59Speaker 5: Did you guys see before they were showing tailgates, there
- 49:04Speaker 5: was nobody there?
- 49:05Speaker 1: No. 30 minutes before the kick.
- 49:06Speaker 3: That's sad. I mean, that's sad for him.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Now, everybody says, and it's already in the chat, you've
- 49:11Speaker 1: got to get that Tyson and Walmart money. Brandon Marcello,
- 49:13Speaker 1: friend of the show, CBS Sports. Wrote a great article
- 49:16Speaker 1: about that because Brandon, he lives in Northwest Arkansas. Brandon's
- 49:19Speaker 1: close to that.
- 49:20Speaker 6: Program.
- 49:20Speaker 1: And he says, all I ever hear is how do
- 49:22Speaker 1: they not have money?
- 49:23Speaker 3: Here's why.
- 49:25Speaker 1: And in summation, it's a good article. Go read it.
- 49:27Speaker 1: But in summation, John Calipari cut a side deal with
- 49:30Speaker 1: the Tyson guy. And he said, if I take this job,
- 49:34Speaker 1: you've got to give me money. You're funding basketball. That's right.
- 49:37Speaker 1: And the Tyson guy said, I love Arkansas basketball deal.
- 49:41Speaker 1: So John Calipari cut his deal with the Tyson guy.
- 49:44Speaker 1: So when you see the Tyson food. So chicken's off
- 49:46Speaker 1: the menu. Chicken's off the menu for Arkansas football. Not
- 49:49Speaker 1: for basketball.
- 49:50Speaker 3: You say that, though. He can continue to give.
- 49:52Speaker 1: He can, but he doesn't.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Yeah, but I was saying, like, the Tyson food guys,
- 49:56Speaker 5: it's not like he's got a pick. Am I getting
- 49:57Speaker 5: a jet?
- 49:59Speaker 3: Or a yacht. I get it. He can afford both.
- 50:00Speaker 1: But he is not invested in football. Walmart's already on
- 50:03Speaker 1: the field. Walmart's on the field. Is it Tyson on
- 50:05Speaker 1: their jerseys, though? It is, but that is just part
- 50:07Speaker 1: of it. But all his NIL money goes to basketball.
- 50:11Speaker 1: We're not talking.
- 50:12Speaker 3: About a logo.
- 50:13Speaker 1: We're talking about giving millions of dollars to build a roster.
- 50:16Speaker 3: That's right.
- 50:17Speaker 1: And everybody says, okay, you got Walmart up there. And
- 50:19Speaker 1: Brandon points out the Walton family... Gave a bunch for
- 50:23Speaker 1: Bud Walton Arena, which in today's dollars was like $ 35
- 50:26Speaker 1: million or something like that. But their giving has slowly
- 50:28Speaker 1: declined over the years. And then here's what happened. This
- 50:31Speaker 1: is the stuff we never see. By the way, the
- 50:32Speaker 1: kids are not as interested in giving away their money
- 50:34Speaker 1: as the parents were.
- 50:35Speaker 7: That's right.
- 50:35Speaker 1: The kids kind of like that money, right? Here's the
- 50:37Speaker 1: stuff we never see, though. The Walton family publicly backed
- 50:41Speaker 1: a guy for chancellor for the university system that didn't
- 50:43Speaker 1: get the job. So there's the fallout right there. They
- 50:46Speaker 1: wanted their guy as chancellor. Their guy doesn't get the job.
- 50:50Speaker 1: And as Brandon points out, Slowly, they've quit giving.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Final 60 seconds of the show here on Sporting State Forester.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Let's leave with the video of Oklahoma running in the field. Lance,
- 51:00Speaker 2: he's not going to give up on this Oklahoma team.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Stick with them, LT.
- 51:04Speaker 3: They're not buttoned up, Lance. Oh, no.
- 51:06Speaker 1: It doesn't wreck. The fireworks, though, start malfunctioning, and they're
- 51:10Speaker 1: going everywhere.
- 51:11Speaker 2: They forgot to tie the fireworks down, and they're sliding
- 51:14Speaker 2: all over the place.
- 51:15Speaker 1: They're hitting cheerleaders. They're hitting everybody. That is a buttoned-up
- 51:20Speaker 1: program right now. That was the most excitement inside the
- 51:23Speaker 1: stadium in the win over New Mexico. No doubt. Let
- 51:26Speaker 1: it crank up again. Let's roll to the end of
- 51:28Speaker 1: the show.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Here comes the wagon.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Oh, it's going to be a great night here.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Look out, cheerleaders.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Here come the fireworks.
- 51:35Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Oh, maybe our offense is going to be this electric tonight.
- 51:39Speaker 8: Nope.
- 51:40Speaker 1: This is the only fireworks you get. Sorry, Norman. Stay
- 51:44Speaker 1: with it, Lance. Stay with it.
- 51:47Speaker 2: All right, we're back with the next round on the
- 51:49Speaker 2: other side. Clay and Buck here on Sporting State. You
- 51:51Speaker 2: guys have a great day.
