Starting July 1, Medicare patients may soon access weight-loss GLP-1 drugs under a new 18-month pilot program called Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, offering just a $50 monthly copay. Eligible beneficiaries—those with a BMI of 30+ or lower BMI with specific conditions—can get drugs like Zepbound and Wegovy, but only if their doctor submits prior authorization. Around 3.8 million people could qualify, though those already using GLP-1s for diabetes or sleep apnea are excluded.
