Lost Pilot Found After Decades | Wilmington News
After 78 years, the mystery of First Lieutenant Franklin H. McKinney’s disappearance during a WWII reconnaissance mission over Burma and Thailand has been solved. His remains, found in a Thai rice paddy in 2018 and confirmed through advanced forensic analysis in 2022, have been positively identified. McKinney, a pilot with the famed “Redhawks” squadron, will finally be laid to rest with full military honors, and his name will be honored with a rosette on the Walls of the Missing — bringing long-awaited closure to his family and the nation.
