- 0:42Speaker 1: If you win, we will throw in a banana for
- 0:45Speaker 1: free that has been floating around the studio.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Is that the same banana from the last week.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I have thrown three bananas away, and there has been
- 0:53Speaker 4: one every single time that I've come.
- 0:54Speaker 3: This is definitely a brink.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Somebody loves bringing in bananas and then not eating them.
- 1:00Speaker 5: I'm going to watch the stream from last week. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 5: we could call videos. We have the technology, video evidence.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yes, we have surveiled the area.
- 1:10Speaker 5: And then we find out, as Chuck Powell, what the heck, Chuck,
- 1:13Speaker 5: what are you doing?
- 1:14Speaker 1: This is not me. I'm just happy to see you.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's not a banana in my I'm just happy to
- 1:20Speaker 1: see you. But this, somebody's just ringing in a banana,
- 1:26Speaker 1: not eating it and then leaving it behind.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Well, I don't know what's the bigger crime, leaving the
- 1:30Speaker 4: banana or not eating it.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Well, clearly this is a person that is trying to
- 1:35Speaker 1: convince themselves that they like banana.
- 1:37Speaker 3: And they're healthy.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and then when push comes to shove, I don't
- 1:41Speaker 1: really want it, so then they just leave it behind.
- 1:45Speaker 4: So it's funny because when I walked in in the changeover,
- 1:49Speaker 4: so to speak, between your show and Greg Bell's show
- 1:52Speaker 4: here ten to twelve ninety three point three KJRFM, I
- 1:56Speaker 4: told you, Chuck that this seemed like a Christopher Kid prank.
- 1:59Speaker 4: So Christopher, I'm just gonna ask you straight up right now,
- 2:03Speaker 4: is it you?
- 2:04Speaker 3: I don't like bananas, and no it's not mean.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Okay, all right, it's it's it's created quite the smell
- 2:08Speaker 1: though in here like you can't get away from it?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Is it a good smell? I like bananas. I like
- 2:13Speaker 1: the smell of bananas. Here's the weird thing about bananas.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I like banana flavor, but I don't really like bananas
- 2:19Speaker 1: really so like banana cream pie.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I love banana bread.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Banana bread I love so good, you know, like banana
- 2:26Speaker 1: ice cream. I just bought some and had some yesterday's.
- 2:29Speaker 1: But like actual bananas, like the texture of it, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: don't like. I don't dislike them, but I don't love them.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Where I love banana flavor, I just don't like bananas.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Demonstrate how you eat said banana? No?
- 2:43Speaker 4: Oh god, you know he just said he doesn't like bananas.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Don't force him into that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I eat it like a corn corn on the cop
- 2:51Speaker 1: I go across and rotate.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Well, the banana gate will continue here in the kJ
- 3:01Speaker 4: R studios.
- 3:02Speaker 2: We'll find out who this was, I said.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I initially thought it was Dick Fang because I think
- 3:05Speaker 4: he's right now, the only one who sits in that
- 3:07Speaker 4: chair like he wasn't in your Friday.
- 3:10Speaker 3: So I don't know. That's crazy. Find out what happens.
- 3:12Speaker 3: It's very weird.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Is it someone from like one of the music stations
- 3:15Speaker 4: that just comes in drops up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: They might I don't know, BA Gate.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Banana Gate.
- 3:21Speaker 4: We gotta we got to get to the bottom of
- 3:22Speaker 4: this well up.
- 3:26Speaker 1: At any point during the show, I have the remedy.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Give it to Brandon Donovan.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Huh.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well, so okay, let's let's get into it.
- 3:38Speaker 4: We talked, you know, you might get a banana if
- 3:40Speaker 4: you you know, enter the keyword on our website, the
- 3:43Speaker 4: Grand Grand Slim cash. I made this joke at the
- 3:45Speaker 4: top of the ten o'clock hour that you know, who
- 3:48Speaker 4: needs a Grand Slam The Mariners. Oh, and they still
- 3:51Speaker 4: would have lost yesterday. Yeah, they lost eight to three.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I need a lot of things. They're just not playing well.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I mean they're not hitting obviously, they're playing worst defense.
- 4:01Speaker 4: And their manager, I feel, is in the worst way
- 4:05Speaker 4: he's been since he took over. So you like it
- 4:09Speaker 4: feels to me like he's overwhelmed.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 4: So you and I have kind of been on this
- 4:12Speaker 4: train for a little bit now. Even through last year.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I was a pretty you know, compared to most, a
- 4:18Speaker 4: pretty heavy critic of Dan Wilson even during their run.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But I still going, like in the off season on
- 4:23Speaker 4: our stove podcast. We talked about it all the time.
- 4:26Speaker 4: If I get frustrated with his in game management, I
- 4:29Speaker 4: also see that the other side of it is his
- 4:31Speaker 4: everyday managing at this point, and that's something that he
- 4:34Speaker 4: excelled at. I don't think it's a coincidence that cal
- 4:36Speaker 4: Rawly had his career year of the year that Dan
- 4:40Speaker 4: Wilson was here for the full season. Yeah, and there
- 4:43Speaker 4: are there are a lot of superlatives. Yeah, but I'm
- 4:48Speaker 4: starting to question even if that aspect of his managing
- 4:52Speaker 4: has fallen off a little bit.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Well, your job as a manager is to get the
- 4:55Speaker 1: most out of the talent given, right, and by the
- 4:58Speaker 1: end of the season last year he was you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: he got all the way to the ALCS and very
- 5:04Speaker 1: close to the World Series. Cal Raley had a career year.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I mean there were, uh, there were a lot of
- 5:12Speaker 1: positives and every reason to bring him back, but there
- 5:15Speaker 1: are also some weaknesses. I think he does struggle with
- 5:18Speaker 1: pitching change decisions, uh. And I do think that he
- 5:21Speaker 1: struggles with pinch hitting now decisions, which apparently has turned
- 5:28Speaker 1: into like, you know, a Rubic's cube. To me, it
- 5:32Speaker 1: doesn't seem that difficult, and yet he's like can't figure
- 5:36Speaker 1: it out. I got the yellow side, but nothing else
- 5:39Speaker 1: will wind up. It's not that hard. So I think
- 5:43Speaker 1: he struggled with that. And then at the end of
- 5:46Speaker 1: the day, you've got to get the most out of
- 5:48Speaker 1: your talent. I'm like, look, I said this on my
- 5:50Speaker 1: show today. I'm not ready to call for Dan Wilson's job.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't even like doing that as a talk show host.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Some talk shows live for that. I'm not. I don't
- 5:59Speaker 1: like doing that, and I'm not ready to do that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But if I found out today that they were going
- 6:07Speaker 1: in another direction, because they're just not going to squander
- 6:10Speaker 1: this season like the Philadelphia Phillies did a couple of
- 6:13Speaker 1: weeks ago with Rob Thompson and they've gone fifteen and
- 6:15Speaker 1: four since. If I found that out, I'd understand.
- 6:20Speaker 4: It wouldn't be upset. I wouldn't be upset. I wouldn't
- 6:24Speaker 4: say what are you doing? That's not the response you'd get.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I would sort of understand it. It's too precious of
- 6:32Speaker 4: a year. Yeah, I mean, this is it's too good
- 6:35Speaker 4: of a roster, it's too good of a team. And yet,
- 6:38Speaker 4: as I said before, you're not hitting, you're not fielding,
- 6:43Speaker 4: and you're not getting the most out of guys. And
- 6:46Speaker 4: I don't know what things are like behind the scenes.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Maybe Dan Wilson is running up pretty tight ship. I
- 6:52Speaker 4: have no idea, but every time he speaks.
- 6:55Speaker 1: To us, it's played off like it's no big deal,
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's just baseball. Yeah, you know, I'd like I heard
- 7:02Speaker 1: a little bit of it last night, like that's the
- 7:06Speaker 1: closest he's ever come to. That was terrible. Yeah, you
- 7:09Speaker 1: know what, the way we played just not good enough.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And it doesn't have to be a nasty, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: bombastic statements. We're terrible. Yeah, but I would.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Like to hear we're better than that. We have to
- 7:22Speaker 4: do better. Yeah, we got to play better. Well, you
- 7:24Speaker 4: mentioned it with the platoon situation. Yeah, first of all
- 7:28Speaker 4: your general take on that, and you said it's pretty easy, uh,
- 7:31Speaker 4: in terms of your your way of looking at it.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And I talked about it on the stove we did.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Do you think did you notice on Saturday what happened?
- 7:38Speaker 4: So Dan Wilson gets tossed?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah? Was he still making the decision?
- 7:43Speaker 4: What I'm saying, But all of a sudden you make
- 7:44Speaker 4: a change in philosophy because Adrian Morehone comes in or no,
- 7:48Speaker 4: it was Wandy Peralta. Wandy Peralta comes in to face
- 7:51Speaker 4: three straight left handed batters, including both Luke Raley and
- 7:54Speaker 4: Dom can Zone, and they leave him in there. But
- 7:57Speaker 4: it was the sixth inning. And this is what I've
- 7:59Speaker 4: saidmultiple times. If it's early and it's not a high
- 8:02Speaker 4: leverage situation, you leave your guys in there so they
- 8:05Speaker 4: have a chance to have another at bat let in
- 8:06Speaker 4: the game. So I think they did the right thing
- 8:08Speaker 4: in that time, but is that dead well, but.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Then later it's Raley up again and then they let
- 8:15Speaker 1: him hit, which I think is wrong, the mistake right, and.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Then they they pinch it. He struck out, and then
- 8:21Speaker 4: you have guys on base, and then you pinch it
- 8:23Speaker 4: for can Zone with two outs two batters later.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Ashley made a great point today, It's like this is checkers. Yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 1: it's don't turn it into chess. Yes, it doesn't need
- 8:36Speaker 1: to become chess. It is just checkers. You know, just
- 8:40Speaker 1: hop hop him. Don't be the person getting hopped. Hey,
- 8:44Speaker 1: we talked about it on Stove fifteen, our first episode
- 8:47Speaker 1: of Stove fifteen on Friday. People listen to it because
- 8:51Speaker 1: this entire weekend played right into our conversation. Don't let
- 8:55Speaker 1: another manager dictate who's on the field for you. Yes,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I mean there's an element of that, to be sure.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But when you're taking out your better hitter because he
- 9:07Speaker 1: hits from the left side of the plate with nobody
- 9:09Speaker 1: out in the sixth inning, well, guess what he's gonna
- 9:12Speaker 1: do to you in the eighth or ninth when he comes,
- 9:14Speaker 1: he's gonna go back to the right. So you're gonna
- 9:16Speaker 1: lose coming in going. Now, if it's the sixth inning
- 9:19Speaker 1: and they're second and third and there's one out and
- 9:25Speaker 1: Rob Revschneider or Connor, Joe's gonna have a better chance
- 9:27Speaker 1: of putting the ball in play because the splits do
- 9:31Speaker 1: suggest that even struggling ref Schneider and Joe are still
- 9:35Speaker 1: better against left handers. But they're not so much better
- 9:39Speaker 1: that I'm going to cost myself the sixth inning and
- 9:43Speaker 1: the eighth inning when they come back around again. So
- 9:47Speaker 1: if you're threatening, take advantage of the threat. But if
- 9:50Speaker 1: there's nothing going on, keep Rayleian canzone in the game,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and then in the eighth if they want to bring
- 9:58Speaker 1: in a lefty, now I'll make the change. The ref
- 10:00Speaker 1: Schneider and to Connor Joe, I don't think it's that hard,
- 10:04Speaker 1: but Dan Wilson, game in and game out, the other
- 10:08Speaker 1: manager is forcing him into personnel decisions that are weakening
- 10:12Speaker 1: him from the sixth inning on and weakening our chances
- 10:16Speaker 1: to come back. But that doesn't forgive the team for
- 10:19Speaker 1: we don't score runs until we're down by which is
- 10:22Speaker 1: what happened all weekly exactly exactly. It's two to not
- 10:25Speaker 1: think and we're right there, we're not gonna score at all.
- 10:28Speaker 1: But if we haven't right where we want to. Yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but if you if you're gonna go up five, will
- 10:33Speaker 1: we'll make it interesting. I mean, that's the weekend it was.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I mean, they just beat the tar out of us.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Chuck, What would you say has been the biggest surprise,
- 10:43Speaker 5: good or bad for the Mariners so far this season?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Oh uh, well that's this is a weird, strange thing
- 10:51Speaker 1: because there have been a lot of grid surprises. Yeah, Like,
- 10:54Speaker 1: if you would have told me at the beginning of
- 10:55Speaker 1: the year Emerson Hancock's going to be a top of
- 10:57Speaker 1: the rotation caliber starter. WHOA, how many have we won
- 11:02Speaker 1: all of our games?
- 11:03Speaker 4: Then?
- 11:04Speaker 1: Are we forty eight? No? You know, I mean, how
- 11:08Speaker 1: good are we if there are some Hancocks a top
- 11:11Speaker 1: three guy in the starting but he's been arguably our
- 11:14Speaker 1: best starting pitcher so far this year. Cole Young has
- 11:18Speaker 1: definitely taken that jump forward and he's not as consistent
- 11:22Speaker 1: as he's going to be, but glove War glove Wise
- 11:26Speaker 1: is a goal glove defender to this point in the season.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Luke Rayley is another great pleasant surprise. And yet so
- 11:33Speaker 1: you're getting some of these pleasant surprises, and yet we're
- 11:36Speaker 1: still four games under five hundred, So what's the disappointment.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Col's got to be the biggest surprise of the entire season, not,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, to be hurt now after just struggling all
- 11:50Speaker 1: year long, So that's got to be the most disappointing thing.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And then maybe the next thing, once again is we
- 11:57Speaker 1: just can't hit lefties like again, that is a prise,
- 12:00Speaker 1: not surprised, but it's almost a surprise because it's another
- 12:03Speaker 1: year with another different combination of guys that this time,
- 12:09Speaker 1: this offseason everybody thought was a good idea, even though
- 12:12Speaker 1: it was basically just AJ policism, but this time people
- 12:17Speaker 1: were encouraged by it and it still hasn't worked out.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So I don't know. I mean, I'm just surprising that
- 12:25Speaker 1: we're sitting here. I really thought this was going to
- 12:27Speaker 1: be an easy year. Not I'm with you, a much easier.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Nothing's ever easy on baseball, you know what you mean, Chuck.
- 12:35Speaker 1: But and I still think they're eventually going to pull away,
- 12:38Speaker 1: start playing good baseball, probably in the summer, and I
- 12:41Speaker 1: think they will pull away and they're going to win
- 12:43Speaker 1: the American League West comfortably. I really do. I still
- 12:46Speaker 1: believe that doesn't matter how bad that it looks right now.
- 12:50Speaker 1: But why does it always have to start after June?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Why do we have to go through these April and
- 12:58Speaker 1: maze like we go through every year in the Depoto era.
- 13:01Speaker 1: It's depressing.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I mentioned at the top of the show. It's
- 13:04Speaker 4: like you can look at it two ways. Number One,
- 13:06Speaker 4: you're just two games out after getting swept. It's it's weird.
- 13:09Speaker 4: I don't think there's any threat in The Mariners are
- 13:12Speaker 4: not major threat as of now. The Mariner's not winning
- 13:15Speaker 4: the AL West or even making the playoffs. But the
- 13:18Speaker 4: issue to me over the weekend was, I think you
- 13:20Speaker 4: faced another World Series contender in the San Diego Padres.
- 13:23Speaker 4: They're really good, and you saw the gap in the
- 13:27Speaker 4: two different teams, and they're twenty eight and eighteen without
- 13:30Speaker 4: Fernando Tatis or Machado hitting at all.
- 13:32Speaker 1: This well, they're not hitting at all. They're right there are.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Their offensive numbers are worse than ours until Gavin Sheet's
- 13:38Speaker 1: got a hold of George Kirby, but there, and they're
- 13:42Speaker 1: pitching numbers there. They are only that good because when
- 13:46Speaker 1: they have a lead in the sixth inning, they hold
- 13:49Speaker 1: on to it every time because Morahane's ridiculous. Adam's a
- 13:54Speaker 1: little hit and miss, and then if they need four
- 13:57Speaker 1: outs from Miller or six outs from Miller, he's good
- 14:00Speaker 1: for it every single time. So that's why they're ahead,
- 14:04Speaker 1: because they're not even playing good baseball. They did this weekend,
- 14:07Speaker 1: certainly they did, but they haven't even played good baseball
- 14:10Speaker 1: to accumulate that record. Yeah, I think we're better than
- 14:13Speaker 1: them on paper, we're just not playing that way right now.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I agree with you. That's what I said.
- 14:18Speaker 4: It's not a talent issue for the Mariners. What about
- 14:21Speaker 4: the pitching, because that's been something that I think you
- 14:23Speaker 4: can take, Like you said, Emerson Hancock is a huge positive.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I think George Kurvey minus yesterday has been a really
- 14:30Speaker 4: good you know, had had a really good year so far.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Lowden Gilbert's been pretty meh for me. I want to
- 14:36Speaker 4: see more from him.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I don't know why he pitched in the
- 14:39Speaker 1: seventh on I don't know why that happened on Saturday.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Like he fought his way through six. Your entire bullpen
- 14:49Speaker 1: is there for you. This is another thing. This is
- 14:51Speaker 1: not chess. This is checkers. This is easy. This is
- 14:53Speaker 1: the easy stuff. Like, all right, we're back into the game.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Our starting pitcher went six, so let's get him out
- 15:02Speaker 1: before he you know, before we start the seventh inning
- 15:05Speaker 1: here when your entire bullpens rested. Matt Brash has no
- 15:08Speaker 1: reason to be Intocoma right now. Okay, so number one
- 15:11Speaker 1: Jose Ferrer just had a week off. He should be
- 15:15Speaker 1: healthy and ready to go. We're back to Munos having
- 15:18Speaker 1: not pitched in four days. We've gone four days without
- 15:20Speaker 1: Munos no, and yet apparently unless it's tied or up one,
- 15:27Speaker 1: none of our five best relievers can ever pitch. Like
- 15:31Speaker 1: you got back into the game Friday, Andres Munjos has
- 15:35Speaker 1: a he's gotten into You've gotten into trouble with Munjos.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Because he's telling you I need to pitch more. Yeah, like,
- 15:42Speaker 1: not every single series breaks that. I mean, sometimes you
- 15:46Speaker 1: win twelve to two, right, so you've got to you
- 15:50Speaker 1: got to use them. You got to use your weapons
- 15:53Speaker 1: when you have them. And instead we're going try to
- 15:56Speaker 1: squeeze another inning out of Logan Gilbert and he gives
- 15:58Speaker 1: up two runs and now the game's over. Yeah, now
- 16:00Speaker 1: it is. Now it's a five run deficit, and now
- 16:02Speaker 1: you're you're not coming back. I don't think that that's
- 16:05Speaker 1: that difficult either, And yet he really seems to if
- 16:09Speaker 1: it's not textbook, Yeah, that's if it's not textbook. Oh,
- 16:14Speaker 1: we're up one in the seventh. I can go to
- 16:20Speaker 1: J Jose Ferrere now or brash or whatever. Yeah it's one,
- 16:24Speaker 1: we're up one in the eighth. It's bizarre dough time.
- 16:29Speaker 1: If it's not that cut and dry. Yeah, he seems
- 16:32Speaker 1: to struggle with it.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I want so you pin the pitching struggles And
- 16:38Speaker 4: I don't even say struggles because they've still have been pretty
- 16:40Speaker 4: good this year.
- 16:41Speaker 3: There's been very good.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Pitching has been very good, not great, but very good.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and their starter's ras I think the best in baseball.
- 16:47Speaker 4: If I want if I remember correctly, that stat was
- 16:49Speaker 4: put up yesterday. So they're going to go to this
- 16:51Speaker 4: piggyback situation with Luis Castillo and Bryce Miller. You and
- 16:56Speaker 4: I talked about it on stove for a little bit. Uh,
- 16:59Speaker 4: you know, you have the option or right now you
- 17:02Speaker 4: have six starters healthy. So what are your thoughts on
- 17:06Speaker 4: using a piggyback? And what we mean by that is
- 17:09Speaker 4: so looks like it's we don't know who exactly is
- 17:12Speaker 4: gonna start and who's gonna come in later, but you're
- 17:13Speaker 4: gonna have some sort of combination of three or four
- 17:16Speaker 4: innings from Castillo, three or four innings from Bryce Miller.
- 17:21Speaker 4: What do you think about that versus just the traditional
- 17:23Speaker 4: six man rotation and giving them some of their actual start.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I find it interesting. I think it's a little bit clever.
- 17:31Speaker 1: You've got opportunity maybe since we are so scared to
- 17:35Speaker 1: use bullpen pieces, that you have a chance to one
- 17:40Speaker 1: time through the rotation kind of skip your bullpen. Yeah,
- 17:44Speaker 1: because if Bryce Miller's coming in relief and his four
- 17:48Speaker 1: innings in and is shutting him down, I don't need
- 17:51Speaker 1: to bring in munyos for the ninth in that situation.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So if you possibly gave yourself like one bullpen free
- 17:59Speaker 1: night every fifth time through the rotation, because you can
- 18:02Speaker 1: go Leuis four or four, Bryce five or five four,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and you could do that. I don't think that that's
- 18:11Speaker 1: I'd probably more have Bryce on the back end because
- 18:14Speaker 1: I don't think that that guy's pulse ever quickens.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think I'd rather have him as the
- 18:22Speaker 1: back end guy to that, even if he pitches more innings.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But I think it's kind of I think it's creative.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I brought it up last year with maybe that's the
- 18:31Speaker 1: way that Emerson Hancock could be used, and they never
- 18:33Speaker 1: did it. The scary part about it is no one's
- 18:36Speaker 1: ever done this right. One hundred and twenty five years
- 18:39Speaker 1: of Major League Baseball and no one's ever given this
- 18:44Speaker 1: a shot. And so from that standpoint, I don't know.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't know how it's gonna work out. I mean,
- 18:50Speaker 1: usually the safe thing to do is just who are
- 18:53Speaker 1: your five best pitchers? Pitch them? Yeah, that sounds like
- 18:56Speaker 1: the safe thing to do, and right now, that leaves
- 18:58Speaker 1: Luis Castillo on the outside.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say, is it just kind of
- 19:01Speaker 4: avoiding a hard conversation here with Luise.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Give this a shot?
- 19:05Speaker 3: Okay, why not for how long?
- 19:08Speaker 1: I don't know. Twice? All right, maybe it works, Okay,
- 19:13Speaker 1: I mean considering how much that they're struggle with how
- 19:16Speaker 1: to use bullpen, give Dan and Knight off from having
- 19:20Speaker 1: to think about it anything.
- 19:22Speaker 4: That's the other thing is like, I want one less
- 19:24Speaker 4: option for Dan Wilson to go to uh let.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Him pull Luke Rayley early again.
- 19:30Speaker 5: Geez okay, real quick, Chuck before we go. Yeah, this
- 19:33Speaker 5: Chicago White Sox series, what does it mean to you?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Chuck?
- 19:36Speaker 3: Does it matter get a win? Oh?
- 19:38Speaker 1: I don't think anything's big right now. I don't think
- 19:44Speaker 1: you want to dig a bigger I know you don't
- 19:46Speaker 1: want to big dig a bigger hole. White Socks are
- 19:50Speaker 1: playing pretty good baseballer never guessed the two records side
- 19:53Speaker 1: by side which one belonged to who. Yeah. True, at
- 19:57Speaker 1: the beginning of the year, it's not maker time, it's
- 20:00Speaker 1: not big win time. Yeah, we're not there yet. But
- 20:04Speaker 1: I don't really want to think about a Thursday being
- 20:08Speaker 1: five games under five hundred or seven. I don't want
- 20:12Speaker 1: to think about that. So let's avoid the worst at least.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think I agree with you. It's
- 20:18Speaker 4: it's hard because you know, you don't want to put
- 20:20Speaker 4: so much pressure on a series in May, right, and
- 20:22Speaker 4: then if something happens like, oh my god, it's over right.
- 20:25Speaker 1: In the American League's so, everybody's off to a rough start,
- 20:28Speaker 1: with the exception of Tampa and the Yankees. Yeah, so,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I'm so. I don't think we got to put any
- 20:34Speaker 1: bigger emphasis on this. The most important thing is to
- 20:37Speaker 1: just start playing better and take advantage of momentum.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think I think that's that's the thing
- 20:45Speaker 4: moving forward, is that they've just been allergic to momentum.
- 20:47Speaker 4: They just can't get it going. Every time they seems
- 20:50Speaker 4: like they win a series, it's like a big one,
- 20:52Speaker 4: three or four against the Astros.
- 20:53Speaker 1: You you get to web without seven and one against
- 20:56Speaker 1: the Astros.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Fifteen and twenty five is where it would be.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Sanders like, I've already done that.
- 21:01Speaker 4: We are fifteen and twenty five against non Houston Astros
- 21:03Speaker 4: opponents this year, So that's not good.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Hopefully that changes Chuck Powell.
- 21:08Speaker 4: In the meantime, if someone wants more content regarding the Mariners,
- 21:13Speaker 4: where can they find it?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Oh, well, stove fifteen, Yeah, let's go.
- 21:18Speaker 2: What is it?
- 21:18Speaker 4: By the way, like as someone who has no idea
- 21:21Speaker 4: what that is or is not a part of it whatsoever?
- 21:25Speaker 4: What is Stove fifteen and Stove thirty?
- 21:27Speaker 1: Anders and I? Anders joined My off season podcast used
- 21:32Speaker 1: to be Bucky and I and then Anders and I
- 21:33Speaker 1: have been doing it now for what three years? Three
- 21:36Speaker 1: off seasons. So I love the stove and then some
- 21:40Speaker 1: some people, some fools, were like, you can't stop during
- 21:44Speaker 1: the regular season. Yeah, so we listened this year. So
- 21:48Speaker 1: every fifteenth and every thirtieth of every month we'll be
- 21:52Speaker 1: doing just a Mariner's podcast and you can find it
- 21:56Speaker 1: at ninety three three KJR dot com.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yep, you can find it there. You can find it
- 21:59Speaker 4: the iHeart Radio app and where you get your podcasts,
- 22:01Speaker 4: so check it out. It's you know, obviously we have
- 22:04Speaker 4: our day to day conversations regarding the Mariners and every
- 22:07Speaker 4: game we can react and stuff like that. This is
- 22:09Speaker 4: kind of a mora, Okay, We've had a couple series,
- 22:11Speaker 4: a couple of weeks to react to and kind of
- 22:13Speaker 4: bigger picture stuff with the Stove fifteen and Stove thirty podcasts.
- 22:16Speaker 3: So appreciate it.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Chuck, thanks for hopping on today, extending your morning a
- 22:20Speaker 4: little bit after the morning show with you and Ash
- 22:23Speaker 4: for this morning. We'll talk to you again soon.
- 22:25Speaker 1: So I'll renew myself with this banana, with this delicious banana.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yes, I got we got to find out who that was,
- 22:33Speaker 4: all right, we'll get to your text next. On Sports
- 22:35Speaker 4: Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I always love this music. Yeah, didn't you steal it
- 22:42Speaker 3: from me?
- 22:42Speaker 1: No?
- 22:42Speaker 3: No, we use the the other one. Oh no, I'm kidding.
- 22:46Speaker 5: It's the universal, the funky f I think, yeah, funky?
- 22:50Speaker 3: Is this the one? No?
- 22:50Speaker 5: This is a hip hop funky okay, gotcha.
- 22:54Speaker 4: For those who don't know, we have this bunch of
- 22:55Speaker 4: these generic like music beds because if we play light
- 23:00Speaker 4: this music, we can play license music and that can't
- 23:03Speaker 4: put it on the podcast and it doesn't sound good.
- 23:07Speaker 4: You have to cut out parts of our conversation because
- 23:09Speaker 4: of it. Well, yeah, especially when you start a segment exactly.
- 23:12Speaker 4: That's the biggest thing when hosts are talking over the
- 23:14Speaker 4: music in the background.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so shout out to iHeart. They have a.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I don't have the word library.
- 23:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think of the library is sufficient because
- 23:24Speaker 5: it is more than a library.
- 23:25Speaker 3: It is a what's bigger than a library? I don't know.
- 23:30Speaker 3: I don't even know. Yeah, I don't know what.
- 23:32Speaker 5: It's bigger than a library at this point in terms
- 23:34Speaker 5: of like collection information because it has all of that
- 23:37Speaker 5: in there. It's like a light year of music, light
- 23:40Speaker 5: year of music, like it is ongoing, it never ends.
- 23:42Speaker 5: You just type in pop and you will have eighteen
- 23:45Speaker 5: thousand pop songs that you can just on your own
- 23:48Speaker 5: time cipher through. And yes, I have found a lot
- 23:51Speaker 5: of funky stuff and this is included in it. So yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 5: we all find music and we just use it throughout
- 23:56Speaker 5: the show. It's it's pretty good.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I love it.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it works well, super help.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Yes, let's get to your text four nine four or
- 24:02Speaker 4: five one the Tacoma Dodge text line.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Lots of regarding the Mariners today. Two sex.
- 24:07Speaker 4: If Bryce rides piggyback on Luis, they might be taller
- 24:11Speaker 4: than Randy Johnson taking the piggyback a little too literally there,
- 24:15Speaker 4: But I like, I like where your had is that?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Two six?
- 24:18Speaker 4: Also, it is time it is time to think about
- 24:21Speaker 4: a change at manager.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Alex Cora is available, just saying.
- 24:24Speaker 3: So what Chuck said.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not you're not ready to call for his head.
- 24:29Speaker 5: I would never anyway, I wouldn't get to that point.
- 24:31Speaker 5: I'm with Chuck.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I don't. I just that's not my cup of tea.
- 24:37Speaker 5: I do think though, if they decided, I could understand
- 24:40Speaker 5: and explain why I.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Believe they made said decision.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Yeah, so I think, yeah, I don't want to move
- 24:45Speaker 5: on from Dan Wilson. I think he's a fine manager.
- 24:48Speaker 5: There are some things that I think analytics you can
- 24:50Speaker 5: get away from, but overall, I think he's he's he's
- 24:53Speaker 5: the man for the job. There's a reason why they
- 24:54Speaker 5: wanted him here, So go out and execute. It's a
- 24:58Speaker 5: long season, but what I believe in Dan still and
- 25:02Speaker 5: let's see what happens. They have a good chance tonight
- 25:04Speaker 5: to just silence some of the noise.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I think something you just said there that I want
- 25:09Speaker 4: to get to two six. I'm gonna kind of piggyback
- 25:11Speaker 4: off that after just like piggyback Rice rides on the
- 25:15Speaker 4: weast two six. Many act as the best MLB manager
- 25:18Speaker 4: on the staff and has been has been even before Wilson.
- 25:22Speaker 4: He'll never be allowed to be an actual manager with
- 25:24Speaker 4: the MS. Though Dan Wilson is the iPad manager to
- 25:26Speaker 4: Poto wants. So this is a kind of dynamic that
- 25:30Speaker 4: I've been kind of watching recently. I think everyone when
- 25:33Speaker 4: they assume that someone makes a pinch hit for handedness,
- 25:39Speaker 4: that it's analytics driven. I actually think it's quite the opposite.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I think it's you're not even looking at the analytics.
- 25:47Speaker 4: You're just thinking, oh, it's a lefty, so we got
- 25:49Speaker 4: to put a righty in there. I think, if anything,
- 25:51Speaker 4: Dan Wilson's less analytics driven than the previous manager of
- 25:56Speaker 4: the Mariners, Scott Service. There's more analytics than just looking
- 26:00Speaker 4: at what hand they throw and what hand the batter
- 26:03Speaker 4: bats right. There's way more to that. You can look
- 26:06Speaker 4: at what specific situation in the game you're in. That's
- 26:08Speaker 4: what Chuck and I were just talking about a second ago.
- 26:11Speaker 4: You can look at, you know, the pit, the batter's
- 26:15Speaker 4: of ability to put the ball in play doesn't even
- 26:17Speaker 4: have to be a hit, just put the ball in
- 26:18Speaker 4: play versus strikeouts. You can look at, you know, a
- 26:22Speaker 4: possible arm angle that the picture's throwing at.
- 26:24Speaker 2: And that's the other thing you have to look at.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Not only the batter splits, but the picture splits, because
- 26:30Speaker 4: sometimes a picture like we saw with Yuki Matt Suey
- 26:34Speaker 4: in the San Diego series. He's actually better versus right
- 26:37Speaker 4: handed as a left handed pitcher, he's better versus the
- 26:40Speaker 4: opposite handedness, which would normally be advantage hitter. He's better
- 26:44Speaker 4: versus right handed hitters. So it's almost better to leave
- 26:46Speaker 4: a lefty in. I think people kind of think, oh,
- 26:50Speaker 4: he's using way too many analytics because he's bringing in
- 26:52Speaker 4: the lefty for the right handed pitcher, or he's bringing
- 26:54Speaker 4: in the righty for the left handed pitcher.
- 26:57Speaker 2: It's it's way more than that.
- 26:59Speaker 4: And I actually think, like I said, I think it's
- 27:01Speaker 4: less analytics that they're using. It's just looking at the
- 27:05Speaker 4: handedness of the batter. So that's something to think about
- 27:08Speaker 4: moving forward. But you know, we'll cut again. It's hard
- 27:12Speaker 4: to tell how much of it is to Poto, how
- 27:13Speaker 4: much of it is Dan Wilson, how much of it
- 27:15Speaker 4: was Manniacta on Saturday. So we'll kind of see what
- 27:17Speaker 4: their philosophy is moving forward, if there has been a
- 27:19Speaker 4: change in philosophy whatsoever. Uh forty five definitely Bucky bringing
- 27:23Speaker 4: the banana. I could totally see that Bucky coming in
- 27:26Speaker 4: just before the show starts just putting a banana. Uh,
- 27:30Speaker 4: he's still in his leave of absence right now, so
- 27:32Speaker 4: that's that's that would be so Bucky.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Four five Softy has to be behind the banana.
- 27:37Speaker 5: I've been said that. I think last week, think so
- 27:40Speaker 5: Softy but he doesn't like bananas. But I'm like, I
- 27:42Speaker 5: don't care.
- 27:42Speaker 2: But he's so rarely in studio.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Maybe it's Terry.
- 27:47Speaker 5: He just he comes in and forgets that he was
- 27:51Speaker 5: because he's always running in and out of the studio,
- 27:52Speaker 5: is making sure everything's working. Will shout to Terry, Yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 5: our engineer. So maybe it's Terry or another engineer that's
- 27:59Speaker 5: just popping in. They have the banana with them, they
- 28:01Speaker 5: set it down because they're working on one of the microphones,
- 28:04Speaker 5: and then they leave.
- 28:05Speaker 3: It, yeah, and completely forget they let the banana in here.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Four five says I think there is a big talent difference. Offensively,
- 28:11Speaker 4: I tend to disagree with with this. If I'm I'm
- 28:15Speaker 4: assuming you're talking about the San Diego Padres and the
- 28:17Speaker 4: Seattle Mariners. I think if you're a look at the
- 28:19Speaker 4: guys that play every day, Julio, you could compare it
- 28:23Speaker 4: to Fernando Tatis. You know, I think it's it's pretty comparable.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Julio is better numbers this year even than Tatis does.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Cal Rawley to Manny Machado pretty comparable as well. In fact,
- 28:35Speaker 4: i'd give cal Ralely the edge if anything, in terms
- 28:38Speaker 4: of just his talent level. We're not We're not just
- 28:41Speaker 4: looking at numbers here. We're not just looking at numbers
- 28:43Speaker 4: this year. It's talent level right beyond that, I take
- 28:46Speaker 4: Randy over you know, someone like Jackson Merrill. Randy is
- 28:53Speaker 4: just a better player. I think the Mariner's top end
- 28:57Speaker 4: of their roster talent wise, when everyone is hell healthy,
- 29:00Speaker 4: is as good as almost anyone's at baseball, minus maybe
- 29:03Speaker 4: the Dodgers. So it's the bottom ends of the roster,
- 29:06Speaker 4: the Leo Revases that are playing every day, the rob
- 29:09Speaker 4: refsnyders that can't hit left handed pitching, that that's their
- 29:12Speaker 4: one job. Unfortunately, Luis Castillo right now, he had a
- 29:16Speaker 4: good start against Houston last time out. I'm intrigued to
- 29:20Speaker 4: see if he actually is having a bounce back or
- 29:22Speaker 4: if that was just him, you know, facing the Astros
- 29:25Speaker 4: or terrible this year.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Anders.
- 29:28Speaker 4: What is your opinion for two five three on the
- 29:30Speaker 4: Sounders at this point. I hate to be too critical,
- 29:32Speaker 4: but they cannot score goals. In my opinion, Morris needs
- 29:34Speaker 4: to go and we need to bring in a legitimate
- 29:36Speaker 4: striker to boost this offense. Yeah, it's weird because you know,
- 29:38Speaker 4: the stat I mentioned in headlines is that Sounders haven't
- 29:40Speaker 4: lost at home in almost a year, and that was
- 29:42Speaker 4: their first loss against the Galaxy. But you know, goal
- 29:45Speaker 4: scoring has always been somewhat of an issue for them,
- 29:48Speaker 4: but they're so good defensively that sometimes they're able to
- 29:50Speaker 4: win one zero or sometimes two to one. I tend
- 29:53Speaker 4: to agree with you, though, I think we're getting time
- 29:56Speaker 4: to possibly move on from Jordan Morris. I don't know
- 30:00Speaker 4: how long is on his contract. That's the Jackson Felts question.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And he kind of is a fan favorite and they're
- 30:05Speaker 4: gonna give him every opportunity to, you know, get healthy
- 30:09Speaker 4: and get back to the Jordan Morris that we know
- 30:11Speaker 4: and love. But it's just he's not the same player. Unfortunately,
- 30:14Speaker 4: after three a c altears, so that's that's just gonna happen.
- 30:18Speaker 4: But I agree, I think a good striker because I
- 30:20Speaker 4: think this team creates enough chances. You look at like rus.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Knock and.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Dalea Vego when he's healthy, and you got a roth
- 30:28Speaker 4: Rock playing well, you got Hasis for Era playing well.
- 30:30Speaker 4: They just need someone to score. So I think I'm
- 30:31Speaker 4: with you to need a new striker anything you see.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Chris from the two five to three, the managers would
- 30:37Speaker 5: have to go sixty eight and forty eight to get
- 30:39Speaker 5: to ninety wins, which is usually what it takes to
- 30:41Speaker 5: win division and sometimes a wildcard.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Wow, right now, this team isn't capable of that.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't do the math. That is crazy. I
- 30:51Speaker 4: don't think it'll take ninety wins to win this division fortunately.
- 30:54Speaker 4: So again, this depends on what scope you're looking at
- 30:58Speaker 4: this evaluation through right now, Are you looking at it
- 31:01Speaker 4: through the Hey, you just need to get to the playoffs,
- 31:03Speaker 4: win this division and see what happens. If that's the case,
- 31:06Speaker 4: then I think you're in fine shape still. If not,
- 31:10Speaker 4: If if you're like me and you want to look
- 31:12Speaker 4: at this team through expecting them to be a World
- 31:16Speaker 4: Series contender and expecting them to play well for the
- 31:19Speaker 4: majority of the season, then that's where you can get concerned.
- 31:23Speaker 4: And that's where why I am starting to be like,
- 31:25Speaker 4: did I have too high of expectations on this team
- 31:27Speaker 4: going into twenty twenty six. Let's ask a mayor, the
- 31:30Speaker 4: mayor of Maple Valley, Ian Furness, what he thinks about that.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Back Anderson Hurst.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Christopher Kidd film in for Gregory Bell on Sports ninety
- 31:47Speaker 4: three point three KJRFM. He's visiting his daughter for her
- 31:50Speaker 4: graduation from the United States Coast Guard Acamps.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Really cool.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Congratulations, that's really cool. Yeah, he's been rightfully, still very
- 31:58Speaker 3: proud of both kids. Yeah, daughter graduating this year's son,
- 32:01Speaker 3: they're twins. Son graduated last year, his daughter did the
- 32:05Speaker 3: did the Coast Guard Academy? Were this a little different one? Yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 3: a little bit different, well challenging?
- 32:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he did at the end, Okay, that's what I thought.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, he went to he played soccer at Saint
- 32:14Speaker 3: Martin's for a year, I think, right, and then I
- 32:16Speaker 3: ended up going to to Wazoo gokugs and then yeah,
- 32:19Speaker 3: the daughter graduates this year. So military family, huh me,
- 32:23Speaker 3: So one of the two is going to follow in
- 32:25Speaker 3: his footsteps, right, yeah, right, yeah, eventually Coast Guard be
- 32:28Speaker 3: the one I'd probably want to do.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Really Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 4: People are saying on the text line that it's the
- 32:32Speaker 4: most prestigious out of all of them.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Really, Yeah, the academy is or.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Like the hardest to get into.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Okay, I'm just thinking if I had to be in
- 32:38Speaker 3: the military, which I will never have to be at
- 32:42Speaker 3: my old age, but I would say Coast Guard would
- 32:44Speaker 3: have been kind of cool.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, a little you know, time at sea, stuff like that.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Well, and it's just you're kind of more the c
- 32:50Speaker 3: police and you know you're not. Yeah, I think that'd
- 32:53Speaker 3: be all right. The other one's no, thanks, a little.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Bit too stressful.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Just no thanks, speaking of stress, if I seem a
- 32:58Speaker 4: little stressed to you guys you're watching on the YouTube channel.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Today is my wife's first day back at work. So
- 33:04Speaker 4: I get four hours to my son, who just turned
- 33:06Speaker 4: three months a couple of days ago.
- 33:07Speaker 3: So who's watching him right now? My wife is?
- 33:10Speaker 4: She goes back later, she goes so so this the
- 33:13Speaker 4: work schedule works out, well, Okay, she's got she's going
- 33:16Speaker 4: back part time. So then whenever I come back home,
- 33:19Speaker 4: she's going to go.
- 33:20Speaker 1: How she doing with that?
- 33:20Speaker 2: Do you think she's excited? It seems like she says
- 33:23Speaker 2: that she is.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 33:24Speaker 4: We'll find out, you know, obviously if you're listening. She
- 33:26Speaker 4: said she was going to watch the YouTube today if
- 33:28Speaker 4: if you know, if you're actually excited, Yeah, I feel
- 33:31Speaker 4: good for you.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I can feel that. No, I I could.
- 33:33Speaker 3: I can understand.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Is it more stress that she won't be with the
- 33:37Speaker 4: baby or that yours truly is.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Going to be watching him? You'll be fine. I'll be fine.
- 33:42Speaker 3: I will tell you you'll like this. So when we
- 33:44Speaker 3: had our daughter, Brianni, we're living in Tri Cities and
- 33:49Speaker 3: or a small place in Tri Cities kind of like
- 33:50Speaker 3: a condo that watch a nice little spot. Anyway, we're there,
- 33:54Speaker 3: and I think she probably was she had some health
- 33:59Speaker 3: challenges early, so probably two or three weeks into being
- 34:03Speaker 3: at home and everything settled down. So maybe she's not
- 34:07Speaker 3: quite a month old or so my wife is. She's like, yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 3: I'm gonna go out do something, you know, friends or somebody.
- 34:15Speaker 3: I think some friends took her out. They just gets
- 34:18Speaker 3: a lunch. It's a Sunday, yeah yeah, yeah, And and I'm.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Like, great, cool, I'll watch bred. Be fine.
- 34:24Speaker 3: It's a Sunday, so probably watching football and just kind
- 34:26Speaker 3: of hanging out. And I remember so like she had
- 34:32Speaker 3: the number two in the diaper that was explosions. Explosion.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god.
- 34:39Speaker 3: So I like, I'm just clueless, man, I'm like trying
- 34:42Speaker 3: to wipe it up. It's just it's like it's just
- 34:45Speaker 3: it's it's brutal. And I'm like, all right, well I'm
- 34:48Speaker 3: gonna I'll wash her.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 34:49Speaker 3: So we had like a little basin tub and we
- 34:52Speaker 3: had it next and I brought it into the kitchen.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, And so in the sink in the kitchen
- 34:58Speaker 3: and I get her in there and I'm trying of like, okay,
- 35:01Speaker 3: what do I do? So I turn the water on.
- 35:03Speaker 3: I use a little spray hose on the sink. Right, well,
- 35:07Speaker 3: the water was cold and the shriek she let out,
- 35:11Speaker 3: and right as she did that, my wife gets home
- 35:14Speaker 3: and it's like, what.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Are what what's that going on? While I've been going, yeah,
- 35:18Speaker 1: what are you doing to our baby?
- 35:20Speaker 5: I'm my god, you lost all trust.
- 35:24Speaker 3: It was done at that point. I'm like, oh my god,
- 35:27Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm doing. But you know what,
- 35:29Speaker 3: you find a way. I will say this you somehow,
- 35:32Speaker 3: some way, you find a way.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Well it's been good because I my schedule right now
- 35:37Speaker 4: has been pretty busy. I do, I do, you know,
- 35:39Speaker 4: you know, my daily stuff here and then I have
- 35:40Speaker 4: my postcast, so I got to pay attention to the
- 35:42Speaker 4: Mariner's game. So, like, I'm pretty tied down with a
- 35:45Speaker 4: lot of stuff, and my wife's been, you know, a
- 35:47Speaker 4: saint in being with Austin as much as possible. But
- 35:51Speaker 4: I think it's good that I'm going to take a
- 35:53Speaker 4: few hours just to kind of, you know, take put
- 35:55Speaker 4: all those distractions aside. She'll be gone for four to eight,
- 35:57Speaker 4: so we'll watch the first couple of innings of the
- 35:59Speaker 4: Mariners game.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and then go pick up mom. Luckily, she'll be
- 36:01Speaker 3: home in time for you to post exactly. That's why
- 36:03Speaker 3: the timing works out. Well, baby in the background or
- 36:05Speaker 3: anything like that, literally as my co host, Yeah, exactly
- 36:08Speaker 3: exactly where you go.
- 36:09Speaker 1: So that'd be fun.
- 36:10Speaker 3: But but yeah, oh good, that'll be fun.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Fun.
- 36:13Speaker 3: What'd you talk about today? Would you do that?
- 36:14Speaker 1: Well?
- 36:15Speaker 4: We talked to Chuck Powell at eleven o'clock regarding the
- 36:17Speaker 4: Mariners and you know what the worry meter is.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that's actually my topic today.
- 36:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited for Molly Whoppers. Yeah, it'll be fun.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna we'll see what We'll see what comes
- 36:27Speaker 3: out of that. There's the stress level in this town
- 36:30Speaker 3: is interesting. I think it's just because the expectations are high.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's the thing with me, is like, if
- 36:34Speaker 4: you're looking at it through the scope and I've mentioned
- 36:36Speaker 4: this a couple of times today, if you're looking at
- 36:37Speaker 4: it through the scope of this team going to the
- 36:41Speaker 4: playoffs winning.
- 36:42Speaker 3: The division, you're still fine.
- 36:43Speaker 4: You're two games out and you're still I think the
- 36:46Speaker 4: best team in this division by by a pretty handily margin.
- 36:49Speaker 4: But if you're looking at through the scope of we
- 36:51Speaker 4: expected to be a World Series contender, well, you just
- 36:53Speaker 4: faced a World Series contender over the weekend, and you
- 36:55Speaker 4: saw the difference between those two teams, and I realized
- 36:58Speaker 4: cow always injured, and I realized Brandon Donovan's injured, and
- 37:00Speaker 4: I realize a couple of your bullpen arms are injured
- 37:02Speaker 4: as well. So you can't really say all are equal,
- 37:06Speaker 4: but it's still you can't have that big of a
- 37:08Speaker 4: gap between if you're expecting to be as good as
- 37:10Speaker 4: you said you were going to be.
- 37:11Speaker 3: What do you think the concern level is for Donovan
- 37:14Speaker 3: and the health because it's he he like he had
- 37:17Speaker 3: an entire offseason.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Yeah, and do you remember what his deal was in
- 37:21Speaker 4: the off season, He had a sports hern Yeah, and
- 37:24Speaker 4: that's and it just hasn't and that's near the groin,
- 37:26Speaker 4: and that's been the issue.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Now.
- 37:28Speaker 4: I don't think it's like he reaggravated it, but I
- 37:30Speaker 4: don't think it's disconnected by any stretch of the imagination.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Well there's something wrong. Yeah, there's something wrong, and you
- 37:35Speaker 3: know he and you know now the twist from Mariner
- 37:38Speaker 3: fans would be so the story came out this weekend
- 37:41Speaker 3: with Poloncoah that he's got like chronic achilles something. So
- 37:46Speaker 3: moved on at the right time. So you moved on
- 37:48Speaker 3: from him because he'd be fighting that all year. Yes,
- 37:51Speaker 3: not that he'd probably be playing third anyway, but you
- 37:54Speaker 3: hopefully not. Yeah, but you moved on from that, and
- 37:56Speaker 3: you bring another guy in that's wait for it, also
- 37:59Speaker 3: dealing with some sort of craw yep, some issue along
- 38:01Speaker 3: the way. So so I and now I think that
- 38:03Speaker 3: would be a legitimate concern because when he's been in
- 38:05Speaker 3: the lineup and healthier, at least somewhat healthier whatever leading off,
- 38:09Speaker 3: he's been fine.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Yeah, he's been really good, and I think defensively he's
- 38:12Speaker 4: been good. I'm curious as to a how long is
- 38:15Speaker 4: going to be out and be what they're gonna do
- 38:16Speaker 4: with Colt Emerson at that point because obviously, as of now,
- 38:20Speaker 4: Chuck and I were talking about this right after his
- 38:22Speaker 4: segment that he hopped on is like this, It seemed
- 38:24Speaker 4: like a call up of cold Emerson more based off
- 38:28Speaker 4: of need because Brendon Donovan is injured, not because he's ready. Yes,
- 38:32Speaker 4: and you know, he looked pretty decent yesterday and his debut,
- 38:34Speaker 4: A hit.
- 38:35Speaker 3: A couple of balls, hard, gets a walk.
- 38:37Speaker 4: You know, would like him to make that play at
- 38:39Speaker 4: third base, but again he's a shortstop playing third base.
- 38:41Speaker 4: So that's a whole nother discussion. But as of now,
- 38:44Speaker 4: because Brendon Onovan's out, he's going to have to play
- 38:46Speaker 4: third base. But I wonder if, even when Donovan comes back,
- 38:49Speaker 4: if Colet Emerson still doing okay, you want to keep
- 38:53Speaker 4: him at third base every single day and then have
- 38:54Speaker 4: Donovan turn into that superutility guy.
- 38:57Speaker 3: I wonder what the kind of U, cause Donic could
- 38:59Speaker 3: play outfield right, yeah, corner of.
- 39:00Speaker 4: The field, you can play left, you can play right, Well,
- 39:03Speaker 4: left fielder is not very good, but he's great hitting,
- 39:05Speaker 4: great hitting. Yeah, yeah, it's not very good defense, not
- 39:08Speaker 4: a very good defensive player. But that's actually being kind,
- 39:11Speaker 4: it's very kind. What do you think about the piggyback
- 39:13Speaker 4: starts situation with what they're going to do with Luis Castio.
- 39:16Speaker 2: And Bryce Miller?
- 39:17Speaker 1: What are they doing?
- 39:17Speaker 4: I'm so instead of doing a traditional six rotation they
- 39:20Speaker 4: are doing on tomorrow actually okay, where one of the
- 39:25Speaker 4: one of them gets three or four nings the other one.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Has three or four innings.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I don't like it.
- 39:30Speaker 3: I just go with the six man. We've talked about
- 39:32Speaker 3: it before. It's fine. I mean, I think the other
- 39:35Speaker 3: thing that's you kind of look at is that you've
- 39:38Speaker 3: got a situation in which now you've you've had a
- 39:42Speaker 3: situation where where both Gilbert and Kirby got lit up
- 39:45Speaker 3: over the weekend. Yep, right, because the one thing with
- 39:48Speaker 3: all the offense we can talk about, well, you're starting,
- 39:50Speaker 3: pitching needs to carry you, and Castile has been bad
- 39:53Speaker 3: all year, and then the other two guys get lit
- 39:56Speaker 3: up this weekend, And I think what people need really
- 39:58Speaker 3: like San Diego is not a hard hitting team. They
- 40:01Speaker 3: came in I mean, Fox did a great ORNBC a
- 40:04Speaker 3: great job last night articulating that just the numbers, their
- 40:07Speaker 3: two best hitters have not hit it all this year,
- 40:08Speaker 3: and yeah, I mean, and just in terms of where
- 40:11Speaker 3: they rank in a lot of different stats, team batting wise,
- 40:14Speaker 3: they're in the lower third, and yet they came in
- 40:16Speaker 3: here and just rate Yeah, including on a cold night
- 40:19Speaker 3: on Saturday. So yeah, I don't know. We'll see what
- 40:22Speaker 3: else coming up today, so we'll MULLI wopp. We'll get
- 40:24Speaker 3: into that. I haven't had a chance to react as schedule.
- 40:27Speaker 3: We've got a couple of things on the we'll do
- 40:29Speaker 3: that since I was off last couple last night, in
- 40:31Speaker 3: the last week and same or worst record than last year.
- 40:37Speaker 3: I always say they're about twelve win team if they
- 40:39Speaker 3: back in the sixteen game schedule. Yeah, I always said
- 40:42Speaker 3: eleven and five. So I'll go twelve and five probably
- 40:45Speaker 3: no matter what. But every time, but yeah, I don't know,
- 40:49Speaker 3: you know, it's a weird.
- 40:50Speaker 1: We'll get into this. It's just it's the.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I'm trying to wrap my arms around the rams part
- 40:56Speaker 3: of the schedule, the last to the last three, but
- 40:59Speaker 3: not until two of the last three. So we'll get
- 41:01Speaker 3: into that a little bit too. So, yeah, there's a couple.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I think there's a couple of things. I mean we
- 41:04Speaker 3: look at the schedule. I think there's a couple of
- 41:06Speaker 3: things that you really want to look at and get fight,
- 41:07Speaker 3: you know, like what do you want? You know, like
- 41:09Speaker 3: everyone looks at different things.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yep.
- 41:11Speaker 3: And so I wrote down a couple of things that
- 41:12Speaker 3: I kind of thought were important. The other thing is
- 41:15Speaker 3: for me and I'll just I like to do the
- 41:17Speaker 3: little travel guide. Yeah, like having been done this for years,
- 41:21Speaker 3: where should you go? It's not a great year for that.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Not a ton of stadiums, it's not a good year.
- 41:26Speaker 3: But we'll get into that as well.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Coming up, all right, we'll talk to Ian for Neest
- 41:30Speaker 4: coming up next on Sports Ready on ninety three point
- 41:32Speaker 4: three KJRFM.
