- 0:20what's going on? Everybody? I am I'm on the only the wh
- 0:23Okay, I e giant here by our normal cast of misfits. So we
- 0:27got z Hey, we got I'm sorry, Cash Drazz Jazz, we got
- 0:34guys, we got the Choke Show. That's your sheep, yep, I'm
- 0:46not taking draft corpse name. Oh sorry, we got the Ewakis of Ewoks
- 0:51Junior. Hello, Hello Keith for arch community. Glad to be back.
- 0:55Our favorite Alf the Southern Variety is silently Alf. And we got mister Mike
- 1:03Funi joining us today for our first segment of the day. Mike, how
- 1:07you doing? I'm doing good? How are you? I've had worse days,
- 1:11I suppose. All right, Mike, how is your last name?
- 1:15Actually said, well, that's abbreviation. My last name is Funicello, so
- 1:21it's Fooney and high school that was my brother's nickname, that it was mine
- 1:26all the way up to my cousin or my nephew and now my sons.
- 1:30So it's Mike Fooney My nickname in high school is asshole. But we'll get
- 1:34it another time in wait in a high school. Yeah. Thanks, never
- 1:38changed. Yeah, thanks, never changed. But Z you guys wanted to
- 1:42do a quick interview with Mike before we got started on the festivity. Yeah.
- 1:49I think he has a pretty pretty relevant and cool story. Um,
- 1:53so it's just basic interviews with style Mike. Um, let's start off with
- 1:57the basics. Um, a lot of we just didn't view for our patreon
- 2:00for Devon and Jason, who won the whole thing. So if you want
- 2:04to hear that, so I'm a patron and take a listen. But today
- 2:07for all of us, we have Mike here. You're less of a known
- 2:10quantity in the community as far as like things go. So where are you
- 2:14from? How long you've been in key Forge? Um, I'm from near
- 2:19Albany, New York. I've been in key Forge since day one. I
- 2:23actually won my local stores opening tournament with a dixty six SSS deck. I'm
- 2:32very nice. Nice. Obviously SaaS wasn't a thing then, but um,
- 2:37was it horsemen or something fun like that? No, it was just a
- 2:40Brobnar had to some of the mars where you'd reap in archive their creatures.
- 2:46It was just kind of consistent in that way. But I still remember because
- 2:50your last podcast you talked about awkward moments after I won. There was some
- 2:54guy who's like, oh, yeah, you won with that deck. I'm
- 2:58like and look back, I'm like, sixty six ass, So what are
- 3:00you talking about? Yeah, everyone was like a certain way about certain next
- 3:05in the very beginning. It was kind of funny. Um drafts and take
- 3:09the next question. Yeah yeah, So so tell me about your vaulty experience.
- 3:15Was this your first one? And how was this one? This was
- 3:17actually my second one. I did albany Um back in what was that twenty
- 3:23nineteen, Like kind of consider this Phillthy one my first one because I had
- 3:29just started getting in the competitive about a month before albany Uh traded some I
- 3:36bought some decks and then traded with Jupiter Um. I brought a Peters.
- 3:39I don't know if you guys know that deck gave was say, yeah,
- 3:42it's it's been owned by like twelve people. Yep. Yeah. It was
- 3:46like an eighty three sass at the time, and I totally misplayed it.
- 3:50I go over that all the time. I pulled back and Eddie instead of
- 3:53pulling back up the five story on creature that otoac against the Shadows deck.
- 4:00Right. So that was my first fall tour, um, but this fall
- 4:03tour it was a you know, I got a deck that was eighty five
- 4:06SaaS was playing it one hundred and fifty games in the last month, but
- 4:12I was about sixty. Um. I did beat cheap with Fraud once and
- 4:18ran out and told everybody, and they all looked at me like I had
- 4:20two heads. Um, he has sense murdered me many times. So I
- 4:25thought it was going great, but then the loss after loss, so I
- 4:29was thinking I'd go maybe two wins. So yeah, all right, g
- 4:38are you gonna ask him next question? That directly leads into this. Yeah.
- 4:42I mean it kind of heard a little bit about there with your deck
- 4:45selection, but we've we haven't eventually faced off in arkon. So what was
- 4:47your original arkon deck Planum? I think you've shared what the deck is,
- 4:53but uh, kind of talk to us about why you were looking at that
- 4:58deck and how that deck kind of fit in with your original choice. Sure,
- 5:02so it kind of sets up a little before that where I wasn't playing
- 5:08key for itge So I sold almost every one of my decks, the Jupiter,
- 5:13which he put for sale like today, so then I was. Then
- 5:17we played some Wall once we got our Kickstarter, and it was I just
- 5:20had so much fun that it reignited me, and I started playing on TCO
- 5:27obviously not with Woe at the time, and and friends were talking about going
- 5:31to Philly. So I started playing it on TCO and just got murdered by
- 5:36this double dark Amber Vault deck. So I started looking for one and I
- 5:43didn't find double, but my friend had one that it was a single double
- 5:48dark Amber Vault but also had eaton jar. It was it was a good
- 5:54deck, so I that was going to be the deck I played. I
- 5:58figured I would, um, like I said, win a couple of games.
- 6:02Funny thing is I would have had a much better chance against Jofie with
- 6:06that deck than with what I ultimately played. But I never would have been
- 6:12there, right, I wouldn't have been four and oh at that time,
- 6:14So yeah, I think I made a good choice, all right. So
- 6:19you were planning on that deck, you'd found that, and you end up
- 6:23with something else, so so tell everyone, so not everyone knows like what
- 6:27happened, like, so Friday, you're playing at this Philly ball in these
- 6:30raindow events. Once we finally got our product, Like just walk us through
- 6:33the progression of like that moment, so that like you showed up to ten
- 6:39am the next day to play play the deck that you decided to play.
- 6:42What was that process? Um? Well, I had joked with my friends
- 6:46that I'm gonna get down there early and buy like four cases of whoe and
- 6:50find my adult ball. Um. But then like all of the events that
- 7:00had to take place, like to go bad or to go good, however
- 7:05you want to word it, Like their palette had to not show up.
- 7:10They had to you know, skip those decks in on an airplane, and
- 7:15I happened to be on the phone in the corner when they said to line
- 7:17up, So I was deck on her third right whatever. I was in
- 7:21the line and hamming the deck. I go, I open it and woe
- 7:28was new. So it's not like opening like a re battle Fleet key abduction
- 7:32deck where you immediately know you got something great, and you know, I
- 7:35first look at brobnar and I see double brick nasty, but no HOLI fast,
- 7:40So I'm like, oh, I don't know, and I look at
- 7:42it, unfathomable, there's no you know, be fuddled in the business abyssal
- 7:46site. But then I started looking at the aquedon and the exchange program with
- 7:51shoot In Screwed Investor, closed door Negotiation, umchange programs. Yeah, so
- 8:00it's very consistent and trading frenzies. So I can swap take six of yours
- 8:07and swap it over and you know, immediately take it back at the amber,
- 8:11back into my pool. Uh. So I'm opening the decks and you
- 8:16know, obviously we're trying to seal the lions, and I say to my
- 8:18friends at June um who's she's like really good, much better than I am,
- 8:24And said, I think this might be a good deck by itself.
- 8:28And we start looking at it and we pull it up on uh you know,
- 8:33deck's a key Fororage. At that time, it's ninety four sass.
- 8:35It's now ninety three sass. So I said, all right, yeah right,
- 8:41it's like don't worry seven by next week. UM. I was like,
- 8:48you know, what if I'm going to play this tomorrow, Like I
- 8:52actually said that, I'm like, maybe I should play this tomorrow. I
- 8:54was like, I'll play it as is in seal the Lions, and my
- 8:58first deck it just rolled. And then her first game it just rolled.
- 9:01My second game, I actually played Bruce, who ultimately finished fourth in Alliance,
- 9:07and he had this big Saurian board and he really beat me pretty good.
- 9:13I made some mistakes, but then so I'm feeling bad now. But
- 9:18then my third game was just easy. It was so easy. I was
- 9:22like, all right, well, what's going on here? So I asked
- 9:26June to get out her three Chronos deck that she actually did top sixteen with
- 9:31in the Vault Tour, and I said, let me play you. You
- 9:35know now, it's like eleven thirty right as we tried to find yeah,
- 9:39yeah, yeah, we couldn't find beer in Philly because it's a beer store,
- 9:43and so we're like, all right, let's just go back and play.
- 9:45And I'm like, if it's competitive, I'm gonna play it. And
- 9:50the first game she beats me pretty easily, but like I had two keys,
- 9:54I think. And we played again and it was a little tighter.
- 9:58Again she beats me three to two, and like that was it. Like
- 10:01I'm playing this deck. I have to do it. It's better than the
- 10:05deck I was gonna play um. And then I show up and I'm doing
- 10:09and like I had some doubts. When I'm saying in line to register,
- 10:13I'm like, I shouldn't do this. I shouldn't get to get to the
- 10:16guys like which deck to h Yeah, and like Jupiter thought like you're nuts,
- 10:20Like he didn't say it all loud, but he's like, so why
- 10:22are you playing it? Because it's ninety four SaaS, you know, hinting
- 10:26at I shouldn't. I was like, well, no, because it's no
- 10:30much better than the one I'm playing. Um. Yeah. Then my first
- 10:33game was actually one of my more difficults until later obviously when I when I
- 10:37lost UM when heck, guy didn't really know how his deck worked and you
- 10:43didn't know how to reassembling automatrons worked and stuff. So I was like,
- 10:48oh man, they make it a bad decision. And then I just then
- 10:52I just rolled um right up until I got to Jovi. And even at
- 10:56that point when I'm playing Jove and Jove kills me like three out. Oh,
- 11:03Like I was like, all right, maybe this isn't as good as
- 11:05I think. Maybe I just had a bad draw and I had an easy
- 11:09draw, and I'm thinking that all day. So one of the guys I
- 11:13beat, he's finished, you know, just out of top sixteen. The
- 11:16other guy beat lost a Jupiter in top sixteen. So I was like,
- 11:22all right, all right, you know, we got something here. Maybe
- 11:24I'm not as bad as I think. And then come to my game with
- 11:28e Walk, and I was down early and fast, and like, inside,
- 11:35I concede it inside, like I'm gonna lose this. Just make it
- 11:39a game, and we just kept battling, you know, and ultimately came
- 11:45out on top in easily the best player I've beaten against, one of the
- 11:50best decks, in one of the best games I've ever won. And I
- 11:54told him that and that game like and I told him and pretty much any
- 11:58would have listened at that point that I felt validated and that I could actually
- 12:03play key Forge at a high level. Granted I had a great deck and
- 12:05I got lucky to open it, but beating him with his deck that he's
- 12:11played thousands of times or however many, really that really put me over the
- 12:18top. Feeling good. Well, j are you got a response? You're
- 12:22here? I did um again, Mike. I appreciated the game. It
- 12:28was a very hard fought game. It's unfortunate to kind of finish with the
- 12:31end of time rules, but it was it was great to see woe come
- 12:35out and one for you to have the confidence to see woe and the potential
- 12:41in the deck and then to actually execute that and say I'm going to take
- 12:45it. As you said, it wasn't an easy decision. It wasn't like
- 12:48you were just blowing everybody out when you were practicing, but with a few
- 12:54reps to come into ARCon with few reps compared to other people who had significantly
- 13:01more rep like six, I mean maybe five when I started ball too.
- 13:07Yeah. Yeah, but but that shows a lot of guts and I love
- 13:11to see that, and I'm glad that it paid off. Um. You
- 13:13know, I would have obviously liked to have seen a different outcome on the
- 13:16final game, but the end result is that that's woe and that's what it
- 13:20can do. Um. And it was a great, hard fought match,
- 13:24and so I loved every moment of it. Awesome. Yeah, it was
- 13:26a great to play with you, and I told you that in person there,
- 13:30but yeah, it was amazing to play with you. Um. So
- 13:35oh, I was gonna say, And so this became the first deck in
- 13:41our Cohn the first Woe deck to make top eight. Because of this,
- 13:46it was pretty pretty cool, pretty like I predicted at the Expensive You Walk
- 13:50unfortunately one would make top eight. I did not predict that it would be
- 13:56opened at the event on Friday, which I think this is important for people
- 14:01to hear because like for over a year now, we've basically be like have
- 14:05been preaching that you just don't open decks and make top eight top cut in
- 14:11anything in the future. UM, and we covered it, like when we
- 14:16talked to Devin yesterday, Devin opened his deck like a couple months ago at
- 14:22a store while he was board waiting to play DND or some other game or
- 14:26something. You just cracked a code to pack and that was the winning deck
- 14:31for our corn over this weekend. Mike here opened it the during the event
- 14:35for Alliance, Like we're wrong, Lane ass can be you can just open
- 14:41a deck in make top eight is gonna sell your z I'm not saying this
- 14:50is changing my sealed opening methods or non methods, but either way it is
- 14:56very possible. UM. But so like the fact that Julian five rec directly
- 15:03goes in the next question that I had planned, which sheep is still not
- 15:05in the sheet. So I'll answer the question, ask the question, what
- 15:09did you learn during or after the event about your deck that you think you'd
- 15:15be doing better on now that you've just had more reps? Jeez, where
- 15:18we can um? Well for good radio? Can we actually go ahead and
- 15:24state what the deck is? Because not everyone probably? Okay, we don't
- 15:28douse block Bot's gonna tell us about your deck. Block Bot is not going
- 15:35to do that. Oh okay, I then I could but tells everyone about
- 15:46his deck. Do you actually, Mike, do you have the name off
- 15:48the top of your head? Otherwise I can plug her in? What kind
- 15:52of question of that? Of course I do. It's sitting in front of
- 15:58me in case you had questions exactly what's in it? Um? Are you
- 16:00purring? Like? Is it purring your relevant like? You know it's your
- 16:04hairless cat? Here the um the hairless cat. No, it's much better
- 16:10than a hairless cat. Um. Yeah, So I've been playing it all
- 16:15day since the most of all that has been fixed. But the name of
- 16:18the deck is Trader Daniel Cotton harm. Cotton harm is one word. Um.
- 16:26We refer to it as a Trader Dan, as a trader with a
- 16:30D not a trade tour erect. Yeah. Um, so with I played
- 16:40the Prospector as a pure draw deck, like I'm just gonna draw and draw,
- 16:45like that was my first game, Like just keep trying to draw and
- 16:48you know, just you go that way. Um. And then night after
- 16:55playing Ewalk, he's like, hey, you know, you should probably keep
- 16:56the Prospectors alive and use them as creatures. And then you know, Z
- 17:02said the same thing after my game, and then on the way home um
- 17:06from Philia, which I had like a five hour drive because of the rain,
- 17:08I started thinking about it, and then it clicked. It's like,
- 17:12yeah, if my first turn I dropped against see I dropped three Prospectors,
- 17:17but then I you know, I kilt them all right there? Yeah mass
- 17:19mass buyout, Yeah I got. I ended the tern with four amber.
- 17:23I'm feeling good, you know. And but if I had left three creatures
- 17:30out there, if he doesn't kill them, I come in a reap for
- 17:33three and then bass buy out and I'm at a key at turn two if
- 17:37he does kill them nine cards, It's like, oh man, that I
- 17:44messed that up. But I still don't feel bad because I still feel like
- 17:47I won, like getting top eight. I won, you know, on
- 17:49top of having a great deck to take home. Um. But so what
- 17:53I've learned since then is to really handcraft, and I learned it with e
- 18:00walk Is. I just held on to MOODI. Unfortunately it has to drop
- 18:06hips on it, so you really just you do want to play it and
- 18:08get essentially a draw of four between making the token and that later drawing one.
- 18:15But I held onto that against Z unfortunately at the time, so it
- 18:18didn't matter, but it held and held until it would matter. Yeah.
- 18:22But I've really been handcrafting now with a shrewd investor and Exchange program. Yeah,
- 18:30that's just an easy take three from them and it turns into a seven
- 18:37swap, right, I gained four in the end. Yeah, and I
- 18:41have played against Exchange program quite a bit, so I kept my board very
- 18:45very clear, very few creatures. It's like, I'm not play to creature
- 18:48down here, because that is stupid. Yeah, and for those of you
- 18:52wondering who MODI is, that's what we hear at AC affectionately called tim Gimmy
- 18:57Jimmy Timmy. And then another thing I did learn was I played a couple
- 19:06amazing games today where I was down two keys to one, battled back because
- 19:11of weak link and um the rod So yeah, their key costs twelve um.
- 19:19Granted I had used that against Ewalk, but like it was amazing.
- 19:23They had eleven amber, they're going to win the game, and then their
- 19:26next turn they're at seventeen. But you also have like the fish dude that
- 19:32could keep somebody tapping. Yeah tom oh yeah, um for rocks whatever,
- 19:38yeah if they're depth damage. But then I go back rant and rive,
- 19:44steal half prop Ragnar prep and go on to win that game. And then
- 19:49I had another game where all the brobnar was in my hand, double brick
- 19:55nasty um put out the flame wing spock Herder. He'll make a token next
- 20:02turn. Very good. Yeah, it was just like, you know,
- 20:07it's way better than I thought. I mean, I played ten games today
- 20:10and it's just late night and day compared to what the val Tour play was.
- 20:15Like, what's your record today? Out of ten um one moment,
- 20:21I'll tell you I lost one game and that was too. I knew his
- 20:26name when I lost, but I can't remember his name now m but he
- 20:30was playing his name Deck second Wind or something like that. Second act yeah,
- 20:33second act yeah, second act. Yeah, he had a oh sorry,
- 20:37I'm eight and one today. I lost that one game he was playing
- 20:41his name deck dropped a legionary trainer and made like three or four tokens that
- 20:48turn all which reaped and draw cards. Yeah, so yeah, that was
- 20:51just I've seen that deck. It's it's really fun. Yeah. Um,
- 20:55but yeah, I've been steamrolling. I think I think Southerly Elf we played
- 21:00earlier day, we showed off. Speaking of that, I'm sorry what Southerly
- 21:11off? I didn't hear you. Oh. Danie also brought a Jackey opened
- 21:15at the vault, but uh trader trader dan took me down yep. Um.
- 21:22So, final question, what's your future ball plans? Um? I
- 21:26was checking the dates and I can't make any of them because I also I
- 21:30coach youth football and it's my my youngest son's last season where I'm his coach
- 21:37and he doesn't just play for school, and they're going to be during our
- 21:41draft at one's going to be during a game. Um. So I was
- 21:47really hoping I could make one, but they're just that doesn't match up.
- 21:52Well. There will be a play in at Worlds if you are able to
- 21:56make that. I think that's November tenth through twelve, um, but man,
- 22:00I would have been love to see you on for further adventures. And
- 22:03yeah, yeah, any questions from for us before we announced you had to
- 22:07be here and get onto our normal rant driving whining. No, I can't
- 22:15think of any off the top, I mean top my hand because you guys,
- 22:17uh, it's great to play both you ze and you walk. You
- 22:22both helped me after the game, which is part of the community, right.
- 22:26Yeah, um, so it's fantastic. Hopefully my friends will take Trader
- 22:32Dan to Minnesota. But I, oh, I'm trying. I'm like,
- 22:37guys, take it. I can't make it. Like, let's start get
- 22:38reps represent like we're not officially a team, but you know our our mini
- 22:45small little discord here we've top eight, top twelve, two or two top
- 22:49eights, a top twelve, and a top sixteen. Like we're doing all
- 22:52right here. That's pretty good man, Like, yeah, there's like six
- 22:56or seven of us on that discord that talks. It was Jupiter Happy saying
- 23:00June was top sixteen. So yeah yeah, and now Jukes selling all of
- 23:07this stuff again. Yeah, go, oh my god, that guy we're
- 23:12gonna we're gonna fight over fleet. I think we loved you. Yes,
- 23:18yes, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have had Peters and I'll
- 23:23sorts of decks. So well, all right, I think we're gonna kick
- 23:30you out. I hope you have a great evening. Stick around and listen
- 23:32to the show if you like. We were talking about everyone's vault experience the
- 23:37weekend. Um, I don't think coming on. Yeah, I think.
- 23:42Thank you. I'm honored to have been invited. Um, you know,
- 23:48my fifteen minutes are up, and I'm okay with that. I'll just go
- 23:51back to being unknown and playing key for it. Oh you're known now,
- 23:55You're not that and Mike, you are known on the Facebook group there,
- 24:02so it was really nice to actually meet you in person. And again,
- 24:06as he said, the community is great. We are there to help each
- 24:07other, so I appreciate being able to play. I would have liked to
- 24:11see a different outcome, but hey, that's key forgein. Gotta love every
- 24:14minute. Man you tried on your playing a Star Alliance when you reaped with
- 24:18um Kirby hits all right, I did, I did. I'll talk to
- 24:25you later, Yeah, later, all right, time for more fun festivities
- 24:33from the Vault tour. So I guess we're gonna give it a quick rundown
- 24:41of days and as we come into some of the talking points that we have
- 24:48and maybe again maybe we'll focus on these a little bit more and upcoming episodes
- 24:55and kind of go from there. Does that sound guys? Sounds good?
- 24:57All right? So day zero, x Ray again gets lost. Wow,
- 25:03most of us weren't there, I mean, dress but you couldn't even help
- 25:07a brother out. You just let him get lost on his own. Woe
- 25:11A dark alley again somewhere, I mean, he was in a far worst
- 25:15place than a dark alley. So so x Ray goes in on Thursday.
- 25:18I'm working Thursday, right, so I can't I can't get down there or
- 25:22whatever. And so x Ray, I guess, is like, I'm gonna
- 25:26go. I don't know, I don't find a chick fili or something.
- 25:27I don't know what he's doing for whatever reason, wherever he's barbecue barbecue.
- 25:34There you go. He's like, oh, here's a barbecue spot, and
- 25:38Philly barbecue spots. Wouldn't you be looking? But in Philly that's not like
- 25:44the first thing I go to. Yeah, that's not the first thing you
- 25:47looking for a cheesesteak. Yeah, and you definitely don't look for any of
- 25:51it in West Philly because West Philly is definitely not the place you want to
- 25:55go. And apparently he gets there if you want to stay alive, Yeah,
- 26:00yeah, there's certain places like West Philly. Don't want to go there.
- 26:04Right, I'm in North Philly, Like you don't want to be in
- 26:07Kensington, Like there's there's a number of places you just don't want to be.
- 26:11And uh so x Ray was there and I don't I don't exactly remember
- 26:17the story, but apparently he's walking around and seeing like, wait a second,
- 26:23like I'm in a really really shady neighborhood, and um, didn't he
- 26:29say he had an encounter he saw he witnessed someone like out on the street
- 26:36being arrested outside of the Barbie coup laz he found after he was like walking
- 26:41out to his car. Yeah, I guess there his car. I guess
- 26:45he had to uber to these places because he didn't have right car. Actually,
- 26:48right, that's even worse. And I think he's probably out there waiting
- 26:52for the uber while he's just watching somebody getting you know, you know,
- 26:56read their rights or whatever. Well, he said, he's I thought,
- 27:00he said he saw the guy. The cop actually drew his taser on the
- 27:03guy whoever was getting arrested, like like, don't make me have to taste
- 27:07you don't ask me, bro, And so I think started to realize,
- 27:15what a second, this is not where I should be. Edie told me
- 27:18the next day. I was like, well it was in West Philly.
- 27:21I was like, what, yeah, a picture and where he was on
- 27:26the discord and everything. It's like, well, this is like you're not
- 27:30supposed to leave the hotel, bro, Like, I mean, there are
- 27:33plenty of good places to go in Philly. We checked out some of those
- 27:37great places which we can talk about. None of them were in West Philly.
- 27:42No, So I think if we have learned anything here, it is
- 27:45if you are traveling an x Ray says let's go to such and such,
- 27:51just saying no, because you say you walked down that dark alley first.
- 27:59Let you survived. Just hide behind x Ray. The guy it won't see
- 28:03you, all right, he wasn't by the navigator in the car. And
- 28:10you know we did get to the right place eventually. Did you go through
- 28:14like a whole bunch of bad neighborhoods. First, well, probably take her
- 28:18wrong there and somewhere more than a one cliff. So that is how you
- 28:23get experienced and stories that you will forever remember about these amazing But this is
- 28:30x Ray we're talking about. X Ray has not doesn't like leave his house
- 28:34on most days. What he doesn't eat at home? He leaves his house
- 28:40every day. Well, okay, you're confusing x Ray and Z. Oh
- 28:45sorry, maybe I put up that Texas roadhouse. Yeah, but uh,
- 28:53let's see what he doesn't differentiate? Different differentiate, tell those apart. There's
- 29:00some another big Texan I did not know. Did you know there is a
- 29:04live chat in the show, not just the live chat. I can kill
- 29:08that now. There must be like a live chat. Yeah, if you
- 29:12know. If you look up at the top right, there's a little chat
- 29:15bubble and there's an actual chat in within here. I didn't know that.
- 29:19See if there goes Dan, Yep, I did not know that. So
- 29:25that's cool. I can eliminate that chat channel. But more al of the
- 29:27story, don't travel with x Well, you can travel with x Ray,
- 29:32but uh, beware question. I just don't let X Ray make choices.
- 29:38Yeah, don't let go wherever you you think lately cheap. You're the one
- 29:45going ahead and saying don't travel with X ray tell us, now I don't.
- 29:52I said don't let them all right, So tell us day one Friday,
- 29:59How is the start of your bolt tour? Sheep? My Bolt tour
- 30:03is great? No, no, no, no Friday travel. We're just
- 30:06travel where I lost my idea immediately and didn't have enough sleep, and it
- 30:11was just a fantastic day. That's fun. We didn't lose the carum,
- 30:18nothing serious happened. It was all good. You didn't blow a tire.
- 30:22I did not. We didn't hit a Cat's that I'm aware of. Yeah,
- 30:30I didn't have to do too many Swervey things. That's still draft cars.
- 30:36That's still top five most terrified I think I've ever been in my life.
- 30:40I had no idea why. Yeah, just he makes a huge wide
- 30:44left turn back into the center lane for a cat. Sure it was a
- 30:48cat. Still don't know what it was. But that's a totally different thing
- 30:52than the draft car. The draft car, I gave everybody the same experience,
- 30:56perfect, perfect, You ain't special Wisconsin cat Yep. But for attendance
- 31:04that we had ninety nine in ARCon and nineteen in Alliance, for a total
- 31:08of one hundred and eighteen playing in the Vault tour itself. I think they
- 31:15said there was one hundred and thirty registrants, so there were I was just
- 31:19gonna ask aleven people who didn't play or whatever it is due to some kind
- 31:25of circumstance. They must have bought tickets and not made it out or whatever.
- 31:27Yeah, or said, I don't actually want to play either of these
- 31:30fourmats. I just want the decks and to hang out and play the other
- 31:33stuff. Yeah, there's some people I thought didn't show up to the main
- 31:37events and just went ahead to the like second member and doing sealed. H
- 31:42But let's let's talk about those numbers for a moment, shall we. Because
- 31:48we did a prediction and all of us were like sixty percent arc on percent
- 31:52Alliance around there, and you're not taking my time in the sun away from
- 31:56me. Why Alliance number worse spot on Wookie Winso did predict one hundred and
- 32:06eleven participants. However, our percentages for our Cotton Alliance were wildly wrong.
- 32:15Um, yes they were. I said sixty forty. Drazz said sixty five
- 32:19thirty five Sheep said sixty six thirty three zero sixty seven people there. Wow,
- 32:29Sheep was the worst on the number prediction, but actually was the closest
- 32:34for the spread um because it was just a little shy at twenty percent.
- 32:40Our god, but Wookie was really really good as far as the number,
- 32:46Like you're spot on, like that's seven away. That's really good. Well,
- 32:50I mean it's pretty I don't know if you've been paying attention since Oh,
- 32:54I don't know, what was that place we were down in Illinois that
- 32:59was a forever and a day trip away. That problems with you the answers
- 33:02now Collinsville, thank you. Since then, there's been that one only had
- 33:08like seventy some but it's been pretty traditionally around that one ten to one twenty
- 33:14rate for most you know, quote unquote Vault tours. KFC kind of broke
- 33:20the mold with that, but that wasn't a Vault tour. Well, and
- 33:23when you're talking twenty percent, we actually have, you know, just shy
- 33:28of one hundred and twenty where we actually got to sixteen percent. They're almost
- 33:31seventeen percent for Alliance, right, So it's a very very very small percentage,
- 33:37and I think the best decision for me was actually not to show up
- 33:40last week for recording. I love you guys all, but I was up
- 33:44at two forty Central time, and by the time I finally laid my head
- 33:47down that day, I was at least twelve thirty one o'clock Eastern time.
- 33:55And I would argue one of the other important things when you and a vault
- 34:00tour is sleep management along with food management, um in addition to what we
- 34:05have been talking about for water. So I would definitely add those two things
- 34:07in for the future. This is why I don't come because I keep everyone
- 34:13up at night that I was so grateful to have the little bit of sleep
- 34:16that I got, so thank you for that, Wookie, no problem,
- 34:21I'll tell you wow. I'll tell Gig to always have it right on my
- 34:25children's birthdays. I was having fun with well, actually I wasn't having fun.
- 34:30I was what I mean, I have I have more hair than a
- 34:34majority of the people in this chat, but what little I have left was
- 34:39either graying or falling out. So we're talking about back here now or I
- 34:45got a lot of it because that's where it travels to, right, That's
- 34:49right for everybody to strict to your bath. So all right, I'm gonna
- 34:54stop harassing Wookie now thirteen twelve. Move on from the numbers, though,
- 35:00we do need to note that, like we're standing in line, we're all
- 35:05in arc On. The ARCon line is ginormous, and everyone and their little
- 35:09pods of people are starting to appoint at the Alliance like laugh and make jokes.
- 35:14Right, yeah, while we're standing there, three people walk from the
- 35:21ark On line, grab some decks in their stuff and register for Alliance instead.
- 35:28Maybe one of them just played their arcn you counted three. I actually
- 35:37saw sex, so that's why, um, and I happened to be at
- 35:40the back of the line for ARCon. I was trying to match up to
- 35:43see if my proxy deck would be allowed. Um it was not, but
- 35:49I wanted to make sure that everything lined up. Here's the cards in the
- 35:52order that matches on both sets, and yeah, I had someone right behind
- 35:55me. There are six individuals that they had counted that had witched from Arkon
- 36:00to Alliance at that point, so that we really really would have been one
- 36:06oh five to thirteen yea, and not including the sixty switched. Um,
- 36:12there are other people I spoke beforehand that pre signed up for Alliance because they
- 36:15knew it'd be less people. Yeah, well it was, it would have
- 36:17still been, but switching from like line, the line is a little bit
- 36:22more aggressive as far as like this really should have only been thirteen. Well,
- 36:25the picture they they practiced, they came out for Arkon. That's what
- 36:29they're set for. Ye, and that's crazy, yep. I mean we
- 36:32just talked to Mike about being able to pick up a deck the day before
- 36:37and run it for Arkon. Man, think I'm gonna go ahead and switch
- 36:39because Alliance is a different baby by itself. Um, Have these folks thought
- 36:45that maybe they had a better chance by switching than technically they did Because we'll
- 36:51get to this later. But they only had to win like two games you
- 36:54get to top eight. Um, I had to win a lot more than
- 36:59that, you walk, Hony. We'll talk about that when we get the
- 37:07Statistically, they had a good shot. But yes, has this sent a
- 37:12large enough um, large enough cry want for them to possibly do away with
- 37:22you? No, they're still gonna try to push. I mean, you
- 37:25can yell all you want if you're yelling at a deaf person. They ain't
- 37:29gonna hear you bro wow. I mean I was like, look, I
- 37:37have submitted the form um, but it wasn't about this, Like I am
- 37:42still in the boat that key Fords for all theeds to be a thing like
- 37:49screw. I mean, I thought it was just three, but apparently there's
- 37:51thirteen people that had dedicated time, got rep spent money on decks, did
- 37:55whatever they need to do to be good at this format, and thirteen is
- 38:00more than zero. So like, respecting these people and their version of key
- 38:06for its is fine. It doesn't actually affect me at all. I played
- 38:09my event. Whether they were there or not, did not affect my event.
- 38:14I think the only thing that's truly missing from these formats is that sealed
- 38:19needs to be a third yes option run concurrently with the other two. I
- 38:25saw how it was run. We're gonna talk about a lot of things.
- 38:29G and Marcus did a good job running two very high end concurrent events.
- 38:36I think with adding minimal more staff, maybe just one more person, actually
- 38:40they could have been running a sealed event concurrently with these two, and we
- 38:45could have had all three events at all, all all nationals, in all
- 38:51worlds, and we would actually have had more people in that scenario, I
- 38:54think we see one hundred and fifty people playing OP across three events because more
- 39:00people will show up to play Sealed, because we know this to be true
- 39:04from the full year of OP play we had before. Every Sealed Vault sold
- 39:08more than every Arc. Every every Sealed Vault always does better than our con
- 39:13vault. I mean, so it's not like because like I think they're argument
- 39:15of doing that as it would cut from the other format, Like I don't
- 39:17think it does. Like I think we would literally have seen Like I think
- 39:21there are some people who would flap over. I mean, it's gonna go
- 39:25sealed our con Alliance, like there's no I think you still see the nineteen
- 39:29people because like there's the people who really want to play it, and then
- 39:31there's a people that will sell their sold to make top cut. But you're
- 39:35still gonna get the nineteen people there, right, But like our con will
- 39:37probably would have probably had like seventy and Sealed probably would have had seventy five,
- 39:42and Union it would like one hundred and sixty people playing key Forge and
- 39:45having a great time. So I don't think you're rid of Alliance. Just
- 39:50bring back the format that is literally the most popular of all time. I
- 39:53why is it not here? I think that we can see the gen Con
- 39:58numbers also showing this as well. That ar consoled out Alliance, there's still
- 40:02a few slots, so you have some people who are die hard Arkon fans.
- 40:07There's more than a few well, but they won't play Alliance. But
- 40:10there's other individuals who just want to play key for But ultimately I think Alliance
- 40:15will fill out at gen Conn as well. I think you will see the
- 40:17seventy two seventy two, but we are only going to see it because gen
- 40:21Coon is. Lots of people go to it anyway, and there's nothing else
- 40:24for them to play if because Arkon is told out so fast. Yeah,
- 40:29we allowed seventy two people to play an ar kind of gen count. Yeah,
- 40:32seventy two slots for each because that's the only amount of space they'd get.
- 40:36Um, and there are people who wanted to play Arkon who are not
- 40:39able to because they did not get it into our boy x right in the
- 40:44ac is one like we all know, he's famous for registering for stub late.
- 40:47Well this time it actually bit him in the ass. He is not
- 40:51going to get to play ark on. Therefore he's not even going to gen
- 40:53Con. So all right, so with talks obviously. Um, you guys
- 41:00all came home, Me, Sheep and Sheep, Ewok and myself had our
- 41:07had our regular night at the game store in Ewok. You tell me you
- 41:10saw buckets of new people. Yeah, this was actually one of the things
- 41:15that surprised me. And this was a great surprise. Even as we walked
- 41:20in, I met a couple who I hadn't gone ahead and seen, and
- 41:25Drazz I know that we were sitting down playing and they came up and just
- 41:28hey, how's it going, started talking, so big shout out to Laura
- 41:32and Ian. They were, you know, from the Philly area, but
- 41:37key Forge. But there were multiple individuals I saw around that came in their
- 41:40groups from up and down the East Coast that they were new. Here's two
- 41:46weeks into key Forge, here's a month into key Forge. Hey, I'm
- 41:50just getting back into key Forge. Seeing and hearing those statements was really,
- 41:54really, really nice and something that I think is encouraging for our group,
- 42:00for key Forge as a whole. Yeah, I was very pleased and surprised
- 42:06by how many new folks there there was. It. Um, I had
- 42:12anticipated right that in future events once sealed product was released, that newer folks
- 42:17would be coming around. I was very impressed by how many unknown names there
- 42:23was at this event before release, before full release of while it was pretty
- 42:29awesome. Yeah, it has been a long time to dip in a room
- 42:31of key forgers where I didn't like no large chunks of people. There's probably
- 42:37forty people in that room I had never seen U. It was very very
- 42:43courageous. That's one of the bigger positives of it. Like just the one
- 42:45twenty eight there were more than that, right, So there were like one
- 42:50hundred and forty people there and then like another forty people that I had never
- 42:54seen. Like our game is to some extent growing in a way that,
- 43:00like we talked about, like needed to happen. So that is very encouraging
- 43:02to see. Um, we won't be able to do anything like metric like
- 43:07that for gen Con because it's capped, but I am excited to see how
- 43:10many we get in Minnesota because that will be another data point to see like
- 43:15how many people are there, how many people are new, how many people
- 43:21are just trying to force alliance? All Right, I'm gonna ask this question
- 43:27because this is the draft Corps created the sheet this week. Well before you
- 43:31before you get there, Wookie. I also want to give a shut up
- 43:34because there were new faces on the GG side as well. Um, and
- 43:38so that was that was something I was not anticipating. But uh, we
- 43:44walk in and as we walked in, there is a new face that's wearing
- 43:49a GG shirt. That happened to be Josh, who is the new Key
- 43:51Forage op and not not h but honestly, I think from scouting from the
- 44:00other discords, I believe online handle's orbital tangent. But Josh is there.
- 44:05And it's hysterical because Josh comes up to the group that was talking and this
- 44:10is a group of pretty die hard regulars had been around since the beginning,
- 44:15and just like, so Key Forage, are you guys new? Just like
- 44:22started laughing, like you have no idea what you walked into? Man,
- 44:27he was He was hired two days before the Philly Vault tour. So shout
- 44:31out to Josh and being able to set up events, being able to help
- 44:36run part of what was there. I also spent quite a bit of time
- 44:38with Keith, so shout out to Keith. He is actually the software side
- 44:44and had worked fifteen years with CTP. But you have other individuals that were
- 44:50there and I would not be. And I think he's brother. Yes,
- 44:57yeah, not a clue, right, So now our nepotism, that's honestly,
- 45:07isn't that how small companies work. I mean most of people I run
- 45:15a small pawn shop, you know, in a larger company, and most
- 45:20of them are related. So just just saying that's that's kind of how these
- 45:27things they go. Well, I thought that Keith was awesome. He spent
- 45:30a lot of time just being able to talk and just really personal and we
- 45:36were talking even about Keyport's just family and kind of items that are happening.
- 45:39Um And that was while we were waiting for kind of some product there.
- 45:44So we'll get to that in a little bit. But I appreciated seeing some
- 45:47new faces, both on the player side and for GG realizing that this event
- 45:53is going to require some staff members to be there. Um So I appreciated
- 45:58that choice when they couldn't find somebody to run it for them, just no,
- 46:05but they could have just left Jeremy, and I think that would have
- 46:07been an absolute catastrophe. Um So I do think that they made the right
- 46:12call to bring in other employees to be there to help assist it. Just
- 46:15it requires multiple sets of hands. Having run live, we know that.
- 46:20Um, so I give them credit that they actually had people there. All
- 46:24Right, I'm gonna this is the one I gotta ask, sir, Sir
- 46:29draz Korn start start at three. Jeremy looks nervous. Yeah, it's like
- 46:36it's getting close to three. It's all like maybe it's like two thirty.
- 46:39So I'm walking around, I see I see Jeremy like at the table there
- 46:45where g folks are getting set up, and so I walk over to him
- 46:51to say, hey, how's it going, excited to be here whatever?
- 46:54And the dude looks super nervous. It looks like hasn't slept. Like I
- 47:00mean, I'll be honest with you, guys, sent some pictures. He
- 47:04just looks tired. Yeah. Yeah, it looked like I don't know if
- 47:07I would say he was nervous, he was just exhausted. Yeah yeah.
- 47:12And so so I was like, how's it, good man. He's like,
- 47:14oh, you know, it's like okay. He's like, will you'll
- 47:19find out in a moment. I love drazz cars stories. It's just came
- 47:25in a high pitched gard oh no, and so so like I instantly,
- 47:32the first thing that flashes into my head is the product's not here. Immediately,
- 47:38oh immediately, I was like, there are no woe decks here.
- 47:43There are no unshain decks. But I do not say this out loud because
- 47:47I do not want to jinx the situation. But like, I'm like to
- 47:53be like, what else could it be that Jeremy looks this frazzled that were
- 47:59that were here and like nothing and I'm looking around right and I'm like,
- 48:04there's a couple of banners and stuff. Isn't like that much stuff around.
- 48:08They had like a little like tripod speaker they would trying to use. I'm
- 48:13like something something fishy and it wasn't the raider. That wasn't wasn't the raider.
- 48:23And uh yeah. So so come three o'clock, Jeremy walks up and
- 48:30is yelling because there's really no speaker system there. Because well, he informs
- 48:37us that, hey, there's there's a palette of stuff of products that includes
- 48:45like wow, sealed decks, the sealed on chained decks, the mystery that
- 48:50we'll talk about in a moment. It includes their projectors, their screens,
- 48:55like all their equipment that they were going to use to make the event great.
- 49:06It didn't show up yesterday. He called and they were like, oh,
- 49:10yeah, hey, I'll be there tomorrow for sure. So he calls
- 49:14Friday morning and they're like, oh, no, I don't know who told
- 49:16you that this stuff is still on a train. It's not going to be
- 49:20there till Monday. And so the product, by the way, for those
- 49:24of you following at home, we're going to use on Friday or seal the
- 49:31lines. Yep. This is all the unchained decks or don't know what is
- 49:38yep, yep. Lots of prize stuff never appeared. So so I can
- 49:45understand why Jereby is like he absolutely freaked out and frazzled, like he hasn't
- 49:51slept. So they pivoted and they needed to, right, this is the
- 49:55Vault number one, like you gotta make it happen. So what they did
- 50:00is, you know, called home base and it's like, we got nothing,
- 50:06Well, you guys got to bring something. So they put I actually
- 50:10forget the guy's name, he's the Art of Forage manager, and they put
- 50:17him on a plane with three boxes full of decks and flew him to Philly
- 50:27right and uh, so that he got there right when he could get there
- 50:30right a little late. Uh and uh brought brought a bunch of woe with
- 50:37him so we could play whoam, and brought a small amount of unchained decks,
- 50:45now not enough to run the unchained matches, but enough that there was
- 50:47some there that we could do unchained pods. Um. So, I you
- 50:53know, do you have to hand us to them for pivoting and for making
- 51:01the best of a really bad situation because they they had to right. You
- 51:08can imagine what half of you would have done, right And they're like,
- 51:10oh well, but they they realized they had to do something. And I'm
- 51:16sure this was expensive for them to do, but they made it happen so
- 51:23that we could have a sealed event, even if it was it was only
- 51:28three rounds um and Uh. We didn't get the full event, but we
- 51:32did we did get to have some fun. Yeah, so in the end
- 51:37there was no unchained matches. I think they actually navigated that hurdle um really
- 51:42really well. Honestly, like they that was a huge hurdle to overcome.
- 51:46I was super looking forward to the unchained thing happening. It didn't happen,
- 51:51but I think given all of the barriers they had being able to start,
- 51:54I think we started playing around six thirty or at least we started getting the
- 51:58new seven decks around six thirty seven. So like it was, it happened,
- 52:04it happened. So that was very very good on them too. I
- 52:07don't have some great about it and kind of power through the situation. All
- 52:13right, it's time till Lucky will. It's it's time for the up in
- 52:20my chair and for the great debate, right, the great debate. So
- 52:25one of the things that came out of UM the Vault Tour in Philly is
- 52:30the introduction of the Master Vault set. There is a lot I'm mixed emotions.
- 52:39Is that fair? Mixed emotions? You could say that about this set.
- 52:45I as well have mixed emotions, mixed emotions. Complicated, guy,
- 52:53Yeah, I'm complicated. He's an onion, that's right. So who are
- 53:00to tell me what the Master Vault Master decks are? I think I got
- 53:07this part. So the Vault Master set is a three hundred and sixty four
- 53:15cards set made of a previous They take all of the sets that exists.
- 53:21Sets one through six. They ignore any cards that make tokens, they ignore
- 53:24any cards that affect or deal with the tide. And they have certain selected
- 53:30cards put into this three hundred and sixty cards set, and they put it
- 53:36in the algorithm just like any other algorithmic design choice has normal rules. If
- 53:43it's like an LA type card, there's only be one of If it's a
- 53:46JR type card, they'll be only one of those two cards I don't think
- 53:49are in the set, But either way, if they had restrictions like that,
- 53:53they would be applied per the normal algorithm standard rules. They are then
- 54:00generated just like any other deck. They have an archive image, they have
- 54:05a deck list, they have a QR code that is cannibal into a tournament
- 54:09event. Um. What the curated part comes where there are certain things that
- 54:15never existed before that are supposed to create new and interesting combos because it in
- 54:22and of itself is considered its own set, which is a master vault set.
- 54:30Um, and that's what it is. Vault Master, Vault Master.
- 54:36Thank you. Yeah, you're gonna replace place, replace walkbot here. Yeah,
- 54:39well you went, you went a little walk sat there for a second,
- 54:43at least on my end. But um, This obviously grants a little
- 54:47bit of controversy because why everyone exclusivity not everybody. I didn't say that part,
- 54:57like I said what it is? Are like JR? I said what
- 55:01it is JR. What's unique about these types of decks as far as the
- 55:06acquiring them? The only way to be able to get them is to attend
- 55:10a vault to where and you'll get one in the goodie bag and then you're
- 55:15going to go ahead and we had the chance to purchase one. That is
- 55:20how it has been described so far. So anyone who didn't go to the
- 55:22vault Tour Philly has a chance if someone posts it in the secondary market.
- 55:30But frankly, there's just it's a very very exclusive item, and so that
- 55:36bothered individuals because now all of a sudden it is tournament worthy and it is
- 55:42exclusive, so that limits other people. Vault hold on tournament legal, not
- 55:47tournament worthy. These there are two different terms here. Term yes, yes,
- 55:54legal, all right, they are legal to play in a tournament just
- 55:59like any other what a whole other story. But yeah, I'm still getting
- 56:05caught up on sleep. That was twelve hours across three days by But then
- 56:10the question becomes is it good for the game. Well, there are definitely
- 56:19people freaking out about this, ye uh, like the l everybody that's internationals
- 56:27freaking out. Yeah, just to be clear to our audience and also be
- 56:31fair, like the internationals have the most to freak out about. Yeah,
- 56:35yeah, I think I think that's fair. Freak out is a little more
- 56:37fair than state side oblivious some of the stuff that's going on internationally. We
- 56:43do care for our keyboards, like Breadthren across the seas. We we wanted
- 56:47them very much to have five vaults, not two, um, which I
- 56:52guess not even that's not even on our list to talk about. No,
- 56:54and at that and at that point realize that no vault had been sent up
- 57:00for yes, and they just news because this news all came out Friday online
- 57:05like they Jeremy gave his little speel about what they were and the internet went
- 57:10on fire immediately, like they weren't even talking about a vault anymore. It's
- 57:15like there's just crazy blah blah blah blah blah. Well, I think we
- 57:20failed to mention that there was a deck vault Master deck, which is open
- 57:22that as a prospective one hundred and five sas. But that wasn't the first
- 57:28one on Friday. The first one on Friday was like the decks pod,
- 57:32Like if you broke it up, the pods weren't all great, but it
- 57:36had one like bonkers logos pod that was insanely good. Then that's all that
- 57:42people seen. That was literally the first image online and the rest of the
- 57:46deck was not great. It was not competitive. It's just is what it
- 57:51is. But like the logos pot a loon, it was probably if it
- 57:54were broken down into pod ranks, would be one of the better pods people
- 58:00see. Like, it was just really good. So for Alliance purposes,
- 58:04which this is able to be brought in for Alliance, Yeah, that's where
- 58:09some of the concern came from. Well, except it's only Alliance with its
- 58:14own set, correct, you would you would have to be able to have
- 58:16Vault Master, which again is a very limited deck pool. Very Yeah.
- 58:22I would just like to say, like, I know, everybody keeps saying
- 58:24exclusive and they are exclusively available at Vault tours, but really what it is
- 58:32is they're just ridiculously expensive, right, because you have to pay a bunch
- 58:36of money to travel to a Vault tour and then pay fifteen dollars a deck
- 58:39to get them. It's not that people can't have them from any country,
- 58:44it's just that they're not reasonably priced right when you think about the cost it
- 58:49takes to actually get one, And my gut really says that the cost to
- 58:53get them isn't going to make them work, Like it is definitely not worth
- 58:58going to Vault Tours just for these. And I what I first opened mine
- 59:06and like realized and comprehended what it was. I wasn't sure what to think
- 59:14about it. My initial reactions like, oh, I don't m not,
- 59:20I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. I like I
- 59:25knew right away there's gonna be people upset about this. But I also want
- 59:31GG to be able to get some good revenue off of a product that they're
- 59:38making and have interesting creative ways to make different things that folks will want and
- 59:45that I'll want. Um. I definitely have a little trepidation around is this
- 59:52gonna be um you know, more powerful set and then therefore are really the
- 1:00:00set you're gonna want and it lessens the other stuff. I don't know that
- 1:00:07that is what's happening. I think it's too early to tell, but definitely
- 1:00:13there's a lot of people out there throwing fireballs saying that that is what's happening,
- 1:00:17and there's concern. There's concern. Well, I think people need to
- 1:00:23remember that this is an algorithmically generated game. Like even if the card pool
- 1:00:30was like one standard division better than the other card pools, the likelihood that
- 1:00:37you're going to get some bonkers deck is just stupid low, especially at the
- 1:00:45numbers, Like so we're estimated there were like one hundred and thirty people there.
- 1:00:49That means there's two hundred and sixty of these decks in circulation right now,
- 1:00:52meaning that other than the one that we saw there, that probably is
- 1:00:58the one and only playable like arc on deck in the whole pool at most.
- 1:01:04And even the deck though like people were freaking out about like today,
- 1:01:07is it's good. I'm not gonna say it's not. But there's a really
- 1:01:13good chance that that deck would not have made top eight, and then you
- 1:01:17just have just the same that the rest the people had decks that did make
- 1:01:22top eight. Well, there's deck the Childish Vault Master of Nanma uh was
- 1:01:30opened by a local of mine, and uh he showed it in the h
- 1:01:37F s Forum and hfs started freaking out and going crazy the nice place and
- 1:01:45key Forge people are like flipping out out and throw a chair. Yeah,
- 1:01:53now here's I'll tell you from somebody from who is the outside looking in?
- 1:01:58Right? So the overall is this good for the game, and it's to
- 1:02:06be honest, it's neither good nor bad. Right, This is something we
- 1:02:09asked for. This is something we've been talking about and putting something out there
- 1:02:14that has coveted, wanted um gets people out of their homes and into playing
- 1:02:20key Forge. This is technically what you asked for, what we've all been
- 1:02:24asking for. Yeah, I was about to say, I've been asking for
- 1:02:28something that's unique that you can only get an a vault for that people care
- 1:02:31about. Sheep has two for a long long time, and this does check
- 1:02:37those boxes. There a reason to go to a vault other than winning money,
- 1:02:45because neither Sheep nor I care about any of the prizes on that list.
- 1:02:50Yes they are helpful, but like we're not there for that, um,
- 1:02:54other than like hold on, there's more. Um. So it does
- 1:03:01check those boxes, right, yes, um, now again, and I
- 1:03:07know what Sheep's already going to say, because yes, this is exclusive to
- 1:03:12the people who went to vault tours, who can make it to vault tours,
- 1:03:15who are able to get at vaults. Yes, my paychecks exclusive to
- 1:03:19the people who went to work and got it. That's not how exclusive work.
- 1:03:23Yeah, yeah, what do you mean? That's not how exclusive?
- 1:03:25I mean, that's just not I mean, like it is, but it's
- 1:03:30not truly. There is nothing in this thing that says you cannot have it.
- 1:03:37It says you have to come to a bault. I mean anyone in
- 1:03:39the world could have bought it for three hundred dollars that day. So and
- 1:03:45then and there's there's the innert problem with it is the crazy markup. Now
- 1:03:49it's you trying to recoup some money. Hold on, it's you trying to
- 1:03:53recoup some money. Some of us get that. Most people are not going
- 1:03:57to but it is exclusive, and there are problems, and they're having problems
- 1:04:01in the past. But see, this is the problem I have with key
- 1:04:05Ford in any other game that is like anywhere close to our level. Like
- 1:04:13you just said, this is super exclusive, right. If I had a
- 1:04:15comparable product in Magic to that deck that day, no one would have blinked
- 1:04:21twice about me putting something up there that costs for three hundred dollars. Well,
- 1:04:25because I got an exclusive here's the fab card that was gold cold foiled.
- 1:04:30It would have been a thousand dollars. And you're again where problem key
- 1:04:35forces. It's always comparing apples and oranges. If there was anod you like
- 1:04:41to do too, I'm just saying, like, we need to value our
- 1:04:44game more. But if it was, if it was a fab cold file,
- 1:04:47it would have been a card that was also available at a non could
- 1:04:50foiled version at a much more reasonable price. If it were Magic, this
- 1:04:56would have been a card that was released in the set that maybe has different
- 1:04:59arts. If this were Pokemon again, you know, special game. This
- 1:05:05is the right. We've been asking for ways to find unique things to do
- 1:05:09and they found one, and then there are people bitching about it. But
- 1:05:12but the question is the good for the game as a whole. I think
- 1:05:16the answer is yes, local play in local game stores where it becomes more
- 1:05:23accessible to everyone. Mate, Like, I don't know whether they keep doing
- 1:05:26it with this set or the other set. And they haven't even announced you
- 1:05:30know, LGS plans yet, so we don't know what they're doing. I
- 1:05:32don't know if they know that lgs exist, but they don't. But anyway,
- 1:05:36what's l like? So I want to send us kids that have no
- 1:05:43prizes? Yep. But the issues you're you're always going to have this same
- 1:05:47issue, the same Torch and Pitchfork, the same Fireball issue. Whenever you
- 1:05:53release something that is and again you keep saying, well, it's not exclusive.
- 1:05:56You could buy it for me for this much that that it's exclusive.
- 1:06:00Now that's not those people are going to like wine in Pitchfork and Fireball online.
- 1:06:06But when it comes down to it, some of those same people are
- 1:06:10now trying to go to more vaults because of this. Do you really believe
- 1:06:15that? Yes, yes I don't. But so there are people talking about
- 1:06:21on the discords on well I was, but now I'm probably gonna try.
- 1:06:27Well, I'll go ahead and use their own look of card. And I
- 1:06:30didn't talk to him about this, but Gig did not clearly express what was
- 1:06:33going to be offered at the vaults, and so it wasn't enticing to him.
- 1:06:38He has gone to vaults in the past, So we need to better
- 1:06:43market what is available, what is exclusive. And yes, there are individuals
- 1:06:47who will now come out in my opinion, The one thing that could have
- 1:06:51been done is a better marketing from gig stating ahead of time you will get
- 1:06:58one unique deck that is going to be from a soon to be created SATs
- 1:07:02that is going to be tournament worthy or that will be tournament playable. Sorry
- 1:07:06I keep using worthy, but tournament play that I agree. Where they dropped
- 1:07:12the ball, that is where they dropped the ball, done so many other
- 1:07:15things, like like why didn't they market this? This is going to be
- 1:07:18a draw, Like we probably would have hit one fifty one sixty had people
- 1:07:21known this prior to the day of right, Like like that's a thing that
- 1:07:28they need to be aware of. Like they they are are they are trying
- 1:07:30to do cool things. I think this is a cool thing. And I
- 1:07:33actually like to prove my point about people going Dan and ewok mostly Dan through
- 1:07:40a fit about not knowing that they had stuff at gen Coin to give away,
- 1:07:44and it was the crapp he already had, yet he felt like he
- 1:07:49missed out on this stuff he didn't want and said he probably would have gone
- 1:07:56had he known it was there, and he doesn't give a shit about the
- 1:08:00stuff he was wanting about not being a baguette had you told sheep they were
- 1:08:04gonna have this deck at gen Con, he would have been to gin Con
- 1:08:08for sure. I agree with that statement. I will also say in our
- 1:08:12AC live chats you can see dead sink GG has shown that they can do
- 1:08:15unique border treatments and custom names. Standard Wodex with a special VT treatment great,
- 1:08:20or standard Wodex with names like blank of Philly VT also great. We
- 1:08:27saw that we have had special stamps with FG, and that's I don't know.
- 1:08:33I almost feel like that would have been potentially more of a collector item
- 1:08:39from what's there, but that would have been like, well, the reason
- 1:08:42the reason people are pissed about this one is because it's a specially curated set.
- 1:08:46Now again, I think the other thing that people need to realize is
- 1:08:49ninety nine point nine percent of these decks are going to be nothing burners,
- 1:08:54They're gonna couple nines whatever. I think they're gonna go in your shredder.
- 1:08:59Been right, unless like you're a mad collector and you're like trying to collect
- 1:09:02all this stuff. This. Yeah, I sold one. I did sell
- 1:09:08the one online. I sold her for three hundred dollars. I did not
- 1:09:11open and by the way, for the two whatever's that said I did?
- 1:09:14I walked straight for somebody. Yeah, I walked straight from the table and
- 1:09:17I took a picture. If you haven't seen the videos about how these things
- 1:09:20are packaged, they are man handled by like monkeys, so like, wow,
- 1:09:27I took it from them. I took a picture. I put it
- 1:09:30in my bag. Jeremy's did not open this deck. I don't open sealed
- 1:09:35product. I'm famous for this, um, well not just that whatever.
- 1:09:41Anyway, the other one I opened to play a sealed game of Master of
- 1:09:46Vault Masters with Michael Hurley. I had a great time. It was fun.
- 1:09:50The deck sucked like it wasn't good. Um, there was not even
- 1:09:55a pot in it that was redeemable. I was so good. I gave
- 1:09:58it to Wookie. But that's key for its like it doesn't like it basically
- 1:10:02does not matter what the card pool is. You could actually put all just
- 1:10:06eight to your cards in there and it's still gonna generate garbage decks because the
- 1:10:11algorithm it's not seeing, hey, put your time traveler with face shift into
- 1:10:16you know, like hecatom and soul stuff. It's not doing that. It's
- 1:10:19saying grab cards, that is it. It is not intelligently designed in that
- 1:10:25way. So there's even if you have the best card pool in the game,
- 1:10:30if you only have two hundred and fifty two decks, almost all of
- 1:10:33them are going to suck comparable to anything that made Top eight. If you
- 1:10:39have all the best cards in all the game, I think there's going to
- 1:10:42be a larger portion of them that are going to be pretty decent. Even
- 1:10:45at two fifty. They're not like you. It would be a statistically,
- 1:10:50it would be a statistical anomaly for one out of two fifty to be a
- 1:10:55top eight cut worthy deck. And so what's making the top eight cuts in?
- 1:11:00And with the cards in there, right, it's lacking a few certain
- 1:11:03things that will make it struggle into will Yes, well that's another thing,
- 1:11:09like we haven't talked about. These decks don't have tokens. Tokens are the
- 1:11:14future of key Forge. You're going to go to vents at some point in
- 1:11:16time. Some of them it's going to be like half tokens. No,
- 1:11:19they don't. Okay, So all the ones I'm seeing on the okay that
- 1:11:24come are not token not master's jokes. If you're seeing a deck with a
- 1:11:28token, okay, mine as volcano though, so I can handle token.
- 1:11:32Yeah, yeah, like there's a let's reprint volcano because yeah, and again
- 1:11:38Genia's card. Maybe we should go hid in state. If you're looking for
- 1:11:42vaults, there are two key words that should show up in all of our
- 1:11:45Vault Master series, and that is vaults and Master's right, well, or
- 1:11:55it's not necessarily they will have either vaults or master. They might have both.
- 1:12:00Okay about Master decks. Um, do I think they're personally good for
- 1:12:09the game? No? I do not. Um will it end up being
- 1:12:12a nothing burger? More than likely? That's that's how I feel. On
- 1:12:16about it. Again, I've I've talked till I'm blue in the face,
- 1:12:21and people don't understand, Like is it good? No, because once you
- 1:12:27put in a level of exclusivity, whether you want to believe it's exclusive or
- 1:12:30not, once you put in a level of exclusivity, you're going to lose
- 1:12:33a chunk of your player base, period, end of story. It's been
- 1:12:38done, it's been tried, it has failed multiple times over and over again.
- 1:12:43Whether you want to say the player base goodbye, well, that's rough
- 1:12:48in a game struggling you say that, But I think that you are going
- 1:12:56to lose a percentage of the player base. I think to gain more than
- 1:13:00they lose for the future audience of our game. I think that we need
- 1:13:04to communicate ahead of time that this is going to be available. We need
- 1:13:09to peak people's interests, and I like anything that's going to bring more individuals
- 1:13:13out to our vaults. Frankly, right now, there is a huge cost
- 1:13:15to be able to go to the vaults, especially if you're traveling and you're
- 1:13:18not local to that area. So I think that it is good. I
- 1:13:25think that they needed to do better marketing and let people know ahead of time.
- 1:13:28That's where I stand, Like, I pretty much agree with what does
- 1:13:30think just said in our chat. If she's a live chat, Yeah,
- 1:13:33they are saying, I don't know if it's he or she. I will
- 1:13:36say, though, despite I think it needs them fine tuning. I do,
- 1:13:40and all caps appreciate gig is experimenting and trying new stuff. I think
- 1:13:44they can get it to a happy place eventually. Like that is where I
- 1:13:46am with this endeavor. We've said we want stuff that's unique, interested in
- 1:13:50engaging to the community that we care about. They are providing that to the
- 1:13:55people. They're going to vaults and gig wants people to go to vaults,
- 1:14:00and again we don't know what it is. Right, they need to also
- 1:14:03do this at the local level, because the local level is what makes the
- 1:14:08world run round. Yes, you can't hope they like I hope there's something
- 1:14:15that vault master. It would have to be something different, but something interesting,
- 1:14:17something exciting that they can give out that will drive people to the stores.
- 1:14:25Replaced one card in the vault master pool. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:14:30but something that locals, right, because like I mean, we showed up
- 1:14:34this week. It was me and my daughter, Dan and Ewak. It
- 1:14:39was just four of us. Again, I don't know where all the other
- 1:14:41people went, but like you know, it was there. They need to
- 1:14:45drive people into the stores. I don't have a problem with gig is saying
- 1:14:48I need to make a profit, which I know is I don't remember who
- 1:14:51posted the argument, it was Ze or Dan me, But the problem is
- 1:14:56that you got to do it at the smaller level. You can't just do
- 1:14:58it at the top end. Yeah, yeah, I think it has.
- 1:15:01This has to be and it based on what they've said for this. It
- 1:15:05shouldn't be this, but it should be something else. Be fair. We
- 1:15:09don't know, like they might have this for week already that we don't know
- 1:15:15what it is, so we need to catch like bash them for the well
- 1:15:20we can't, but anyway, we don't know. We'll get into the gashing
- 1:15:25here in a minute. Um uh stick around, Um all right, So
- 1:15:31sealed tournament only went three rounds. Prize prizes were unknown because they were on
- 1:15:38a palette on a on a train. Huh yeah, yeah, So we
- 1:15:42don't know if it was a bunch of decks. We don't know, if
- 1:15:45it was something special. We don't know if there was like a prize wall
- 1:15:47you gotta pick from, like, we don't we don't know any of us
- 1:15:51actually go three zero in this event. I went one too, So I
- 1:15:57went Uh, I went to one. I actually I actually really liked what
- 1:16:02I had. I was a little sad to to not be able to go
- 1:16:08the whole thing because I feel like I had a shot at recovering from that
- 1:16:14loss against a very very strong deck, and I would have liked to see
- 1:16:19how far how far I could have gone with my sixty something uh decks that
- 1:16:28put together. Um, but there's just a lot of fun cards in will
- 1:16:30that you can take advantage of so I was. I was loving it.
- 1:16:35So we have no idea what those prizes are still, but I can't confirm
- 1:16:40that everyone well, I mean I don't know if everyone got them, but
- 1:16:44the people were getting their emails today that email came. I got one because
- 1:16:47it wasn't for this event. I got one for something else later. Um
- 1:16:51J Jr. Should have got one today, two for the same things and
- 1:16:58I won a raffle. We did nothing really to get that. We would
- 1:17:01just want to wrap. I want to stealed pod. So I got an
- 1:17:06email for that. And none of us know what these prizes are. We
- 1:17:10all just got an email from the new jobs. You're all getting fuzzy.
- 1:17:14Yeah, maybe more fuzzy from my army. So the prize that was one,
- 1:17:20I don't know what it is, but it was one not just random,
- 1:17:25but by going ahead and doing the mixer. The mixer was that you
- 1:17:28would go and basically bring a deck and one of the three houses from your
- 1:17:31opponent's deck had to match one of the icons for the houses on the sheet.
- 1:17:35And then there was six odds icons from random and you turn that in
- 1:17:41and that's what we drew in order to get some prize. It was like
- 1:17:45a little mixer type like icebreaker thing, and it was I had fun with
- 1:17:50it. Yeah, yeah, I enjoyed. I enjoyed. Right. It
- 1:17:55wasn't as engaging or as fun as like the Unchained event from KFC that I
- 1:17:59was looking forward to doing again, but it was also a fun I think
- 1:18:02this was part of their pivot when they realized the palette wasn't there like it.
- 1:18:06I do feel like they printed those out, like in the six hours,
- 1:18:11Jeremy had to scramble, so I think I think that was a good
- 1:18:15distractor because that's what we were doing while we were waiting from three to six
- 1:18:18for the product or arrived. Um, and I had a good time during
- 1:18:21then. I played some people that I might not have played, especially because
- 1:18:26you had to do certain houses. I definitely played some decks that I was
- 1:18:29probably not going to play because like my opponents need certain decks. I'm gonna
- 1:18:32had a good time. It was fun playing key for were just fun shocking
- 1:18:35all right. Um, we have a new tournament software as well that we
- 1:18:41did a positive So tell us a little bit about the tournament software. You
- 1:18:46guys got to endure. I mean, see, well, Chris, you
- 1:18:51want to do this like you're you're dev like, what was it from your
- 1:18:54lens as a person that does Yeah, the name of his play style with
- 1:18:59an I And it was a very very it was very just smooth user experience.
- 1:19:03All you had to do is just sign in with your was a keybringer
- 1:19:08account yep, and then that just tied you right into your bracket for the
- 1:19:11day, and all you had to do there's no information about who is placed
- 1:19:15where, but you just refreshed the page and it would tell you what table
- 1:19:17you're at, who you're facing, and how much time was left. And
- 1:19:21once the rounds started, you're able to report right in the app the results
- 1:19:26and you could leave like it the round seem to be time through the app,
- 1:19:29so if you like left your phone up, you could actually use it
- 1:19:31as a timer for the pairing. Yet depending on your phone settings. As
- 1:19:34far as like it going to sleep and all that now, I was kind
- 1:19:39of neat. I think the only negative was that like they used the same
- 1:19:45term for while you're waiting to be paired as when you got up by and
- 1:19:51I think that's one of the things that's just early, Like this is brand
- 1:19:55new software, so like you would see TBD as in like to be decided
- 1:20:00during the pairing window when the software was pairing the next round. But you
- 1:20:03would also see that acronym if you received a buy for the current round,
- 1:20:11So like, had you probably you? Probably? We haven't talked about the
- 1:20:15tournament. For me, I feel like I've times happening, but I'm just
- 1:20:24yelling at a brick ball sometimes just a website. Just a website, and
- 1:20:30two thumbs up for me. It's a very nice looking, very sleek,
- 1:20:33and it worked well. I didn't hear of any issues of site functionality itself.
- 1:20:38It wasn't like dropping you out either, because like some software that's doing
- 1:20:41like that, like even like the old master ball would log you out here
- 1:20:45and it was a real app and I never got locked. I would mean
- 1:20:47it would do that sometimes, but like as soon as I clicked to go
- 1:20:51back in it, it remembered everything and logged me back in immediately. Um,
- 1:20:56drazz, you're also in the deav world. Any any other feedback to
- 1:20:59add to Chris? So yeah, no, I thought I thought it was
- 1:21:01good. The uh, the thing I noticed right away and then we had
- 1:21:06a conversation about it, was that it was great at telling you where to
- 1:21:12go where to be and was very clear. Um, now the thing it
- 1:21:16didn't have, which turned out was on purpose. Why yeah, it was
- 1:21:24an actual view of the bracket. So people were online, we're chatting,
- 1:21:30and we're asking like, hey, where's the bracket. We want to see
- 1:21:33how folks are doing. What's going on? Right, And so I was
- 1:21:36like, yeah, like we should be able to see that, and we
- 1:21:40should be able to have people follow along. But like a Z, you
- 1:21:44were explaining why that's not a good idea. So so like in a in
- 1:21:46a double elimination bracket, if you see the full bracket, you know who
- 1:21:50feeds into who. Um, again, this shouldn't be double elimination, but
- 1:21:55it is. So like if I go let's say three zero, and then
- 1:22:00I lose my fourth game, I am now in the loser's bracket, but
- 1:22:04I'm not going to play until like round eight. All of the losers are
- 1:22:10still fit fighting through round four or five, six, seven, eight,
- 1:22:13I could if I saw the bracket in live time, I know exactly who
- 1:22:17feeds to me. I could literally go like spectating is still allowed and a
- 1:22:23legal thing to do. I could then go watch my opponents as they slowly
- 1:22:28one game at a time for the next four hours, feed into the bracket
- 1:22:31where they will eventually play me. And I don't know, like people that
- 1:22:36are played a lot of key for understand how much data that actually is.
- 1:22:42Like, hey, I didn't think that that combination cards led to that line
- 1:22:45or this person came back three keys to zero or two keys to zero.
- 1:22:50Using this method like that is a huge advantage as first of all, you're
- 1:22:55fresh, and like maybe like there's a chance just watching your opponent them,
- 1:23:00knowing you're watching them for that long, we'll tilt them in your game.
- 1:23:02So like, they definitely did the right thing there. I mean, in
- 1:23:08the end, it just shouldn't be in that format. But anyway, like,
- 1:23:12if it is in that format, you definitely do not want everyone knowing
- 1:23:15the bracket because of everything I just said it is that would definitely be an
- 1:23:21additional negative play experience on top of what was already going on during the event.
- 1:23:27As far as the format goes, I will say, well, you
- 1:23:30guys didn't see play style go down when they started round number two. Play
- 1:23:34style did go down, but they had the dev team on it right away
- 1:23:40and it was fixed within a couple of minutes, So awesome job. On
- 1:23:44that. I mean again, if you didn't have a buy in round two,
- 1:23:46you never would have known it. But it did go ahead and freeze
- 1:23:50up, and it basically sent a white screen. We talked there a couple
- 1:23:54of us who are like, hey, what's happening, But great job getting
- 1:23:57fixed right away. We moved on and the rest of super quick. I
- 1:24:00didn't even see it. It was, And honestly, the rest of the
- 1:24:03tournament was super smooth. So I really enjoyed that. All right, getting
- 1:24:09the day two. Day two is the O will you missed the Draft Cours,
- 1:24:14We will do the draft coar experience on a arcons after dark? What
- 1:24:18what? Yeah? We are moving on to day two. So event main
- 1:24:26events we have Alliance and ARCon. We were told to get there at nine
- 1:24:31for a ten o'clock start. Nine was to register everybody. You guys start
- 1:24:35at ten. No oh yeah, thankfully not to their credit though they were
- 1:24:43actually trying and had had the like this was the Had they not done their
- 1:24:48sales at that moment, which was kind of weird, I guess um,
- 1:24:55we would have started at ten, to be honest, like or anybody had
- 1:24:59won to play Alliance, they also would have started on our actual arc online
- 1:25:03because that's one of the things I was looking for because like you know,
- 1:25:06maybe one day I would run an event for GG. I will never run
- 1:25:12a double elimination vent. So like that is just off the table if that
- 1:25:15doesn't change. So um. But anyway, like they did get through that
- 1:25:19line, both of them, Arkon and Alliance buy ten o'clock. We could
- 1:25:24have started at ten o'clock. But anyway, but you didn't so well because
- 1:25:30they were doing because okay, so they gave us a cup on or ticket
- 1:25:34or whatever, a little card that we could take that card to a purchase
- 1:25:39table. They again they brought other products and boxes off of a plane because
- 1:25:44their palette still never never showed up. They where they were total was going
- 1:25:46to arrive on Monday, so they rediverted it back to many UM. So
- 1:25:51with the card, you could buy three wodeck sealed, one unchained sealed in
- 1:25:57one more Masterbault deck se um. So that's what everyone was doing because they're
- 1:26:02running to get their Master of Ball deck. So like they didn't start the
- 1:26:05event until everyone went through the pay line, and the pay line was actually
- 1:26:09kind of slow. Um. But that's this point of sale, Like there's
- 1:26:13there's not much you can do about well, no date. So I don't
- 1:26:15know if you noticed they had to type in their credit card numbers because the
- 1:26:21swiper, the swiper attachment for I was like was on the palette person um
- 1:26:29oh yeah, yeah, like it was a little oh yeah yeah, it
- 1:26:30was low um. And then towards the end they ran out of cash as
- 1:26:36well change. Oh who was using cash? Well, when you're swipers busted
- 1:26:46again. I think this was intended to be and this is hypothesis, but
- 1:26:49this was intended to be given out on Friday. They just didn't have things
- 1:26:53ready to go, and so they did get us once once the product showed
- 1:26:57up, they got us going with the sealed right away. And I think
- 1:27:00they made the best of it for Saturday of okay, people are here,
- 1:27:03now you can get your decks. It sloaded up a little bit, but
- 1:27:06it was not a big deal. Honestly, that was not my main concern
- 1:27:10for the day. No, yeah, all right, predictions, let's get
- 1:27:15into our predictions. So we already went through the total ARCon An alliance.
- 1:27:23We didn't I'm gonna guess we didn't get numbers yet. No, I don't
- 1:27:27think they really did anything they might share us with the numbers, but once
- 1:27:31we get numbers, then we can go back to the predictions. But we
- 1:27:33don't have anything else for that okay um and that okay so tournament format.
- 1:27:40So the double elimination format is a thing that it doesn't seem like ninety percent
- 1:27:46of the people, like I know at one person that was a fan of
- 1:27:56it, if you could say fan, they're actually probably in our chat right
- 1:27:59now that memory. Body else I talked to had the exact reaction. I
- 1:28:06was expecting that we I had talked about the last I don't know nine months
- 1:28:12now, and I actually had some individuals who had some very big visceral reactions,
- 1:28:19Like I had someone who was straight up on tilt that I had to
- 1:28:23talk down and that shouldn't be the task when you're starting a game. But
- 1:28:28it was just based on the fact of double elimination and needing to wait,
- 1:28:32and that doesn't even count with my situation. I did go ahead and play
- 1:28:39Jupiter first round. Great guy loved being a play and I took a loss,
- 1:28:43and that is extremely difficult to take a loss there in game one.
- 1:28:46So I ended up sitting for a buy, then lunch and another BUYE,
- 1:28:50which equated to We finished the game with Jupiter and myself at eleven thirty nine
- 1:28:56in the morning, and I did not play my second game until three nineteen
- 1:29:01in the afternoon. Woof, that is it's I'm there to play key Forge.
- 1:29:11Everyone else is there to play key Forge, and to play key Forge.
- 1:29:15I did play a lot of money. We didn't know what to do.
- 1:29:18You're in the waiting period. I didn't know that I had a double
- 1:29:21buy until we had come back from lunch, which honestly, we were having
- 1:29:28some issues with lunch that I honestly posted and like, hey, I'm just
- 1:29:31I'm already out. It's such a long gauntlet. Maybe I just won't even
- 1:29:34go ahead and play. So if my food's here, I'll ride back with
- 1:29:39Corey. And then it ended up we got the food, we make it
- 1:29:43back just in time. Draft score is racing to get there and I show
- 1:29:46up and it says TBD, and again I don't know if it's to be
- 1:29:49determined, and we're there. It was the same for the buy, but
- 1:29:54there was a lot of stress at that moment, and so under this scenario,
- 1:30:00it it really really hurt. Not only did it hurt, but I
- 1:30:03saw as when we finished the first round. There were a number of individuals
- 1:30:08who had taken a buy in the first round. That's just with the seating,
- 1:30:13but everyone who lost all sat and it wasn't at fifty percent, but
- 1:30:17it was pretty close to fifty percent. That now you just have half the
- 1:30:20people who are sitting there waiting and we can't play it. We can't play
- 1:30:25a side events, we can't go ahead. You could potentially do something casual,
- 1:30:30but you don't know if you can start casual, if you're going to
- 1:30:31be able to finish it in time. The communication was necessary, but it's
- 1:30:36just you're thinking about your game. You're thinking about okay if I go too.
- 1:30:40I'm just straight up out. There's a lot of thought process that's going
- 1:30:43into it. And for someone who, frankly, at other Vault Tours has
- 1:30:47been on the bottom, there's been a lot of joy for us just playing.
- 1:30:51We're gonna we know we're playing the next round. Okay, I want
- 1:30:55O two, I want oh three, I'm still playing. Here At Philly,
- 1:31:00I saw more dejected looks and looks of depression than I've ever seen because
- 1:31:04people were just sitting around waiting, and one of the worst things for humans
- 1:31:10is just to wait and not know what's going to happen and when. So
- 1:31:15for me, that is why this double elimination and call back. We need
- 1:31:19to provide feedback. We need to be very very consistent this it's just not
- 1:31:27fun. You're sitting and waiting. And I had a very different experience as
- 1:31:30we went through. And then I played from three to nineteen until eleven o'clock
- 1:31:33at night, so I didn't have dinner, I didn't have food, feeling
- 1:31:40absolutely worn out from playing all of those games because it is you don't make
- 1:31:45a mistake otherwise you're just straight up out. I don't think it was I
- 1:31:50don't think that's good for our game in order to bring out the best players
- 1:31:55playing the best ax. Yeah, it was awkward too, because like I
- 1:31:59kind of wanting to go over to you between a match and be like,
- 1:32:01hey, how's it going, how are you doing? But like I also
- 1:32:05didn't want to go over and like how you look at me. It'd be
- 1:32:12like, oh, all you guys would go off and be drinking right now
- 1:32:16if I wasn't the one person still in it. So it was like weird
- 1:32:20and awkward to like, but dress you say you say that that was under
- 1:32:26my thought the whole time. I'm holding everyone else up, man, because
- 1:32:30I didn't watch to think that, Like, wasn't you. I know that,
- 1:32:34and I want to be able to try and make Day two. So
- 1:32:36I'm pushing. I'm trying to do what's right. I mean Jupiter's deck,
- 1:32:41it was a great matchup. It was super close. It was a call
- 1:32:44on one card. It happens, he played it really well. That's key
- 1:32:48forge. But to have to have that grueling gauntlet where I now have to
- 1:32:54turn around and we had two buys, but then I need to play the
- 1:32:58next seven games and win all of them to make Day two. Yeah,
- 1:33:02like one of the things that I like. Again, we've said like if
- 1:33:04you had an issue, if you were there, hell, even if you
- 1:33:08weren't there and you don't want to experience what we're talking about, you could
- 1:33:11fill out their contact for him and say like, hey, I'm interested in
- 1:33:14coming to a vault, but I hear the double elimination like it's a ten
- 1:33:18round scenario where it will last fourteen potential hours. I don't want to play
- 1:33:25in that. Submit that to GG. There is one person that our community
- 1:33:29needs to convince the person that owns the company, so we need to all
- 1:33:32submit that. And like to make our point really really clear, is this
- 1:33:36you Walk played the best keyboards I've ever seen him play and is like the
- 1:33:41entire sent of keyboards that I've known him. And at the start of round
- 1:33:46ten before he played that game on round at the end of round nine of
- 1:33:51an event that started at nine am, because that's when we need to be
- 1:33:55there for registration, so somewhere around ninety so we'd already been there twelve and
- 1:34:00a half hours. Ewok was six in one in an insanely good field in
- 1:34:09any way you look at it. He deserved to be top cut whatever in
- 1:34:15any game I know of that is even remotely comparable to the game we play.
- 1:34:18He deserved to be top cut by far more than me and even Sheep
- 1:34:24did because the amount and how well he played for the duration he played it,
- 1:34:28neither of us did that. And yet he then had to play one
- 1:34:31more round. He had done amazing all day, he finally hit his wall,
- 1:34:38and due to play mistakes, not like deck versus deck, like I
- 1:34:41think like we talked through what happened that round because I was I saw the
- 1:34:45tourney. We were talking about and he just swiffed like he just didn't have
- 1:34:48the capacity to do it anymore because he'd played more keywords than his opponent because
- 1:34:54his stipponent lost on a much later round, so he had to play less
- 1:34:59games than jr did. And that is not okay, it's just not I
- 1:35:04think we're gonna go into double elimination on our rant and all that stuff.
- 1:35:11Maybe next week's episode. I do think it weren'ts more talking this. There's
- 1:35:17lots of stuff, So we'll get some notes together and we'll kind of go
- 1:35:20from there on that. Let's move into how did they see do zee?
- 1:35:26How did you do? On day one? I had a very different experience
- 1:35:30than you walk, So again like this, we'll talk about the details did
- 1:35:35it? But we had ninety nine players, which if you take ninety nine
- 1:35:40and subtract from sixty four you get thirty two, right, Like, no,
- 1:35:45that's not right, you get thirty five. So like seventy people have
- 1:35:48to play to make to move to round two, So that means twenty nine
- 1:35:54out of the ninety nine have to have a buy round one of the event.
- 1:35:58So while jr Um loses to Jupiter, overall there on a fleet I
- 1:36:04had ap ply like I I avoid any possibility that I had to play the
- 1:36:11next eight games in a row to make top cut, and I just I
- 1:36:15just kind of chilled. I like played around, like I shuffled my deck
- 1:36:18some. I did some gold fishing. I had talked to Jason at some
- 1:36:21point I started walking around to see who else did fine, and read about
- 1:36:25to other people that had buys. We had a good old time, um
- 1:36:29and then I won four games in a row. Lots of great matches there.
- 1:36:33The field was super tough, and I made day two. So with
- 1:36:39just playing four games a key forge, I think I was done around three
- 1:36:43something maybe four. Beet beep, you're a sheep? How did you do
- 1:36:48with? How did how did fraud? Fraud? Did horrible? I did
- 1:36:57fine? This is actually true. I did go five on day one,
- 1:37:04really tough matchups. Going into game five, I had played my yeah this
- 1:37:13is fraud double battle Fleet deck with library access. I had played five key
- 1:37:18or five battle fleets throughout four games. I'd only played battle Fleet five times.
- 1:37:25I think I'd looked at sixteen cards off of those five battle fleets,
- 1:37:29and only three of them were Mars cards. That's how the day had been
- 1:37:32going like and I'd only played Library Access once. Also in those four games,
- 1:37:38I believe there was no efficiency going on in fraud, but it just
- 1:37:44has so many pips, and I kept archiving my international graft on reasonably big
- 1:37:51logost turns that I would get people to go big and let me ig and
- 1:37:57keep myself in the game. But it was a fraud. Was not playing
- 1:38:00very fraud like, but it was. I knew how to play normal key
- 1:38:04for US. I did the rest of US value fraud. All right,
- 1:38:12Draft cor, how did you do about it? Do not skip the first
- 1:38:21matchup? Be all right? So listen, we all just want to hear
- 1:38:25about how you lost to a nine year old playing DT. Yeah. Oh,
- 1:38:30you're the real joke show around here. So so so here's how it
- 1:38:33went. So I I sit down at my table and there's there's like a
- 1:38:39kid, you know, cross from me, um, a nine year old
- 1:38:44kid. I was like, all right, so I'm like talking with him
- 1:38:47and uh you know he uh. I was like, oh, we you
- 1:38:55know, we trade our concrds. Oh yeah yeah, So you know,
- 1:38:59kid, it's a little nervous, right, that's fine. I'm like,
- 1:39:01okay, it's DT looking through. I'm like, all right, you know,
- 1:39:06actually this seems like a pretty pretty DEAs and deck. Right. Um,
- 1:39:13it's got triple Chelonia with lots of ways to get creatures on the field.
- 1:39:19It's got um most importantly, it's got final analysis, it's got thinked
- 1:39:27twice, and it's got data forage. I'm like, okay, okay,
- 1:39:31get all a bunch of guys in the field, final analysis, data forage,
- 1:39:35thinks twice, data Forage. That's that's what this deck is, right,
- 1:39:39I'm on Galaxy. I just gotta go fast and I'll be fine.
- 1:39:43No no scaling ember right, no submersive principle. Um, So here we
- 1:39:49go. Well, so this kid plays this this deck very well and was
- 1:39:58focused. I I'm not even sure he really looked at what I was doing
- 1:40:02much at all. He was super focused on what he was doing. And
- 1:40:08it was pretty clear that he had played this deck a lot. And actually
- 1:40:13I found out later that yes, this kid has played this deck hundreds and
- 1:40:16hundreds of times, and so yes, yes and so oh yeah by many
- 1:40:25many times. And so I'm like I'm going, I'm like, okay,
- 1:40:30I just need to burst. I just need to burst as long as I
- 1:40:31burst in time. I'm fine. And so finally get my big burst and
- 1:40:39I could make a million member and uh get to I get to check.
- 1:40:45I got two keys. I've got I don't know how much ember it's at
- 1:40:48least twelve maybe eighteen number uh and there's there's right no way he can take
- 1:40:57me off. UM. So I've been looking for or my Gateway because I
- 1:41:00know if I play my Gateway clears board, UM, then I win.
- 1:41:06And I'm looking over to his deck is his drop pile? I like,
- 1:41:10it's mighty mighty low right if he um and and his UM data forge was
- 1:41:17already his discard, so if he flips like, I'm good. So kid
- 1:41:23calls Star Alliance and starts putting down some uh um creature it's in his hand,
- 1:41:31and then like his eyes go wide and he's like start shaking. I'm
- 1:41:36like, are you okay? And he's like, that's that's that's not what
- 1:41:42I meant. And I'm like, okay, okay, that's that's okay,
- 1:41:45that's all right, that's all right. Like still got your hand on the
- 1:41:48card. It's fine. So he takes it back and he goes the logos,
- 1:41:54he goes into his cycleic goes into uh final analysis. He he clears
- 1:42:00his board, he draws cards, He draws the exact number of cards left
- 1:42:06in his deck, and then he plays his thing twice to data forge with
- 1:42:11exactly the right number of ember and the right number of cards in hand.
- 1:42:16The key cheat and win and I lose. And this kid's dad comes over
- 1:42:23and he's so excited. He's like, this guy has a podcast. Oh
- 1:42:30my gosh, like like the dad is like so excited, and I think
- 1:42:34he realized, like, oh wait, maybe it wasn't a cool thing to
- 1:42:36say, so he tries to be a little bit nice to me, like
- 1:42:40it's it's cool. It's would have been like and I would and we would
- 1:42:44have never have been here if it wasn't for nice guy's draft car letting your
- 1:42:46kid take a shitty turn back table no, and and and it's and I
- 1:42:56that kid played great except for that mistake. Bro. He he said,
- 1:43:02you know, he started putting out a star alliance and um, other than
- 1:43:08that, he played I think basically flawlessly. And uh and and he won
- 1:43:15that game and uh and yes I let him have a TakeBack, but I
- 1:43:20you know, nice kid drafts soutting in again all right, how did you
- 1:43:28do? Well? We know, but well yeah, um, so I
- 1:43:32started off facing good friends Jupiter um placing with fleets, Niggle tooth Bebham.
- 1:43:38He is on Coda rush so triple hunting which triple dust pixie choda. Um
- 1:43:45yeah, that's that's untamed right there, help from future self with time traveler
- 1:43:49BDq um and he played that deck flawlessly. It has master plan and it
- 1:43:56has hidden stash the main key turning point and Jupiter was very nice. He
- 1:44:00let me take back one component, so it was again he was extremely generous.
- 1:44:05However, I made a choice. I'm up on board. I fought
- 1:44:10back from this pixie in hunting which untamed. That just goes off and I
- 1:44:16have not seen dust pixies two and three. And at this point I finally
- 1:44:21get to my in furnace. I have two of them, and conveniently they
- 1:44:26both came together. And I thought about it for a half seconds. I
- 1:44:30can play both, knowing that there's two that I haven't seen, or I
- 1:44:35can hold onto one. I made the choice to play both because I had
- 1:44:40board was just pushing to outrace him at that point, and Jupiter next turn
- 1:44:45pulls back his archives and under the under the master plan was the other Pixie,
- 1:44:50and his hidden stash was Pixie. So he pocketed him perfectly and burst
- 1:44:55it up. I kept him off for a little bit, and then he
- 1:44:59eventually a couple of turns later, he pushed a ten and there was nothing
- 1:45:01I could do. Very very very well played eighteen expected amber thirty five,
- 1:45:06sorry, eighteen printed amber expected of thirty five. So snagletooth, phenomenal deck,
- 1:45:12and Jupiter actually made it all the way to that final tenth game as
- 1:45:15well. So solid deck, seventy five arc eighty six SSS deck. It's
- 1:45:23straight code of rush that's there after that big weight from eleventh ninety three nineteen.
- 1:45:29I then faced a fourteen year old boy. This actually happens to be
- 1:45:32Devin, his nephew, and Devin's fourteen no no, no no, his
- 1:45:39nephew is ended up playing and shut out to Josiah. Josiah played very very
- 1:45:44well. He was on aviators Coda Rush. So I see Coda rush again,
- 1:45:48and this time we got three dust pixies, two do fairies. Nature's
- 1:45:51called Choda along with disan logos, and so I'm just seeing Coda rush cod
- 1:45:58to rush. Honestly, I think the game transitions that I had purged most
- 1:46:03of the untamed I did hold on to my in furnace. I got them
- 1:46:09both at the same time, and I held this time until I saw the
- 1:46:11other dust Pixie, So maybe I learned a little bit there. But it
- 1:46:15came down to in a rise that was in this deck, and Josiah chose
- 1:46:20to pull back the logos at that point instead of going ahead and pulling his
- 1:46:29diss, so that was really the difference. Game three, I played the
- 1:46:32Tired Guy, which is a sorry tired guy, which is Andy p Online.
- 1:46:36He's on MM steel and Triple Mark of dis and honestly, this game
- 1:46:42just rolled to me. I felt a little bad, but it was three
- 1:46:45keys to zero one Mark showed up and it got out of hand pretty pretty
- 1:46:51pretty early. Game four, I played dominic H, who's coming all the
- 1:46:56way down from Canada, so it was nice to see a number of the
- 1:46:58Canadian individuals showing up. I will say, dominic I felt really bad about
- 1:47:03this game. This like just like facing Josiah after that long break. I
- 1:47:10probably wasn't in the best mood, but try to turn around. I could
- 1:47:13see that you had just gotten back from serving I know that you were tired.
- 1:47:16Your long break then also hurt. And so this is one of those
- 1:47:20games that stood out to me and it was very unfortunate how it finished.
- 1:47:25Dominic H was playing his code of Rush, so dust Pixie times two,
- 1:47:29lost in the woods times duo and you played that really well where he threw
- 1:47:31both dust pixies and lost in the woods and right away he has key chart.
- 1:47:40YEP, looks like we lost. I was playing Smoke, so Smoke
- 1:47:46is a tie deck and that did. Yeah, that did cause some issues
- 1:47:49for some individuals, just because they may not be as familiar with the deck,
- 1:47:57and that did slow it up a little bit. It ends up that
- 1:48:00it came down to time, and time was called on dominic as he is
- 1:48:04drawing and he is drawing four of the final five cards. He is sitting
- 1:48:09at six amber and one of those final four cards that he draws is his
- 1:48:14key charge. Um. But because of the ends time rules, us gets
- 1:48:19really weird because there was a question that was asked, will you give us
- 1:48:25an extra minute? That just puts me in a really, really really difficult
- 1:48:30spot. Um. We both played under the same idea for the whole rest
- 1:48:33of the game. UM. It is not a win for anyone, but
- 1:48:38that that game will stick with me. UM, and I could see that
- 1:48:42that really frustrated him as well. UM. I did have Garcia which was
- 1:48:46the bottom card, and I had some nice um time card that remained,
- 1:48:54and then Garcia to draw and I could keep him off of check and then
- 1:48:58I want on tiebreaker and out or is it going in and out? Sounds
- 1:49:02fine? Okay, I keep losing you every now and again. I'm not
- 1:49:06sure why. Sorry man UM. Game number five after that that was a
- 1:49:11really stress inducing game. UM. I then played our good Roger Shrubber or
- 1:49:15Adam from AC so it was great to see him. And he was playing
- 1:49:19Gideon, which is a Spanish deck. So actually throughout the tournament I ended
- 1:49:24up facing a Spanish deck, I was playing tie deck, and I faced
- 1:49:27an Italian deck. Um. This one went down three keys to one.
- 1:49:31H Adam went ahead and said he got a pity key. Um, he
- 1:49:35actually on my big giant board. UM. He played whistling darts to damage
- 1:49:42everyone for one and then he came back the next turn for each damaged it
- 1:49:45was a discard for each damaged creature misery exploit for nine UM and that's where
- 1:49:53it finished. Game number six, I was on stream. Biggest misery exploit
- 1:49:58I think I've ever heard of. It was. It was crazy, but
- 1:50:00it was it was pretty funny, so we're I needed that laugh or two
- 1:50:04after the previous game, so I appreciated that more than I can say Adam.
- 1:50:11Game six was actually streamed, so that was my first ever stream game,
- 1:50:14and I played Mujic online which was Marco, and Marco's actually a newer
- 1:50:18key Forge player. He was on Woe, so this is my first time
- 1:50:21playing in with Woe. It was a deck that he also opened up on
- 1:50:25Friday, and as a Magic player, it was it was great to see
- 1:50:30him, you know, playing key Forge kind of here. But this was
- 1:50:32a pretty smoke handled it pretty easily. It was three zero m. I
- 1:50:39did have a misplay, so I apologize to anyone online. And that's again
- 1:50:43when you're playing a foreign language deck. I did bring it. I had
- 1:50:45proxy deck. We used stickers instead of all having the printed enhancements, and
- 1:50:51because of that they wouldn't allow it. So I played and I know exactly
- 1:50:59what survey does. That individual Survey has amber pip, it has a damage
- 1:51:02pip and you're drawing two cards and you're discarding one. I, however,
- 1:51:08took the other card and I put it into my hand, which I then
- 1:51:11promptly played online and on stream with Kirby, and so that was wrecked fight.
- 1:51:16I'm glad that it was caught, but please know that was not done
- 1:51:19purposely. But again, that's where some of those foreign language decks can become
- 1:51:23very very tricky, is you've been playing for a while, you're going through
- 1:51:27it, you just make one simple mistake. So I appreciate any help there
- 1:51:30to catch that. But I ended up taking Magic three keys to a zero.
- 1:51:35I then face quick draw. So Matt's from bottom of the beaker and
- 1:51:41he was playing a double chain Gang game. So double Chain Gang deck,
- 1:51:45super fun. I actually was really scared by this deck. I am creature
- 1:51:50spam and he had double red alerts and triple unnatural selection and it was an
- 1:52:00interesting match. But I ended up being able to take that game. And
- 1:52:03then we already talked with Mike Funny, but I finally came back and played
- 1:52:09Mike Funny. I jump out to a big lead, and I'm up first
- 1:52:13key, I'm pushing for second key, and basically on the last ten minutes.
- 1:52:21I absolutely faltered, and part of it was on a play. In
- 1:52:28this individual case, I had Garcia that was out on the corner. Mike
- 1:52:33was assigning a damage from his Robin attorney. He's like, I'm gonna go
- 1:52:38He yeah, it doesn't matter. I'll point here and he pointed to Garcia.
- 1:52:44Whether that was good sports with ship and like he purposely had it or
- 1:52:46he didn't, I don't know. It seemed very odd. But he then
- 1:52:54played weak Link, which is an unfathomable card. It is a rare.
- 1:52:57This creature gains while this creature is exhausted. Your keys cost plus six.
- 1:53:02And so when I called my next house, I went ahead and untapped UM.
- 1:53:14I unexhausted at the end of the turn, and he was readying ready
- 1:53:19my apologies, get a straight he were you even playing it? He had
- 1:53:27used he had used figur ific rod in order to go ahead and to exhaust
- 1:53:30it UM, and so I thought, hey, I just need to get
- 1:53:33out. He has one ran to arrive that has left. That is his
- 1:53:36amber control. I know that I just need to make sure I'm not going
- 1:53:40above eight. We're good and time keeps doing duling down. We're looking he
- 1:53:45is he has shuffled through his deck three times a lot of time. That
- 1:53:50is there, Yes, that is that is pushing with those prospectors. Um,
- 1:53:56however I missed. All right, hold on, I feel like it's
- 1:54:00an opportunity to play a salt and pepper song. Here. Push it?
- 1:54:02Oh, sorry, push it. The card that I admits, which I
- 1:54:06had never seen in play was Phissiloa, which is a four power one armor
- 1:54:12aquan unfathomable and it has two in hands damage pips. Damaged creatures do not
- 1:54:16ready during the ready cards step. And this is big because my Garcia is
- 1:54:24exhausted, which means my keys are going to cost twelve and I have to
- 1:54:28get rid of it. I did have cards in my hand to do that.
- 1:54:30However, I basically time walk because I had called Starlines and I missed
- 1:54:35it. We had actually on exhausted it or readied it as people would say,
- 1:54:42and it was pointed out, nope, that that needs to stay exhausted.
- 1:54:45So after that turn, that's where I'm now a little bit on tilts,
- 1:54:48thinking Okay, what can I do? I do come back and I
- 1:54:54have my Locus cards to be able to get rid of Garcia, and then
- 1:55:01Mike's going through. He's moving. He is now pushed. He's gotten his
- 1:55:04first key, and he is pushed to about eight Amber. I'm sitting at
- 1:55:09nine still. He did go ahead and ran to arrive me because I pushed
- 1:55:12at ten for that Star Alliance turn to bump me all the way back to
- 1:55:15five, and I am now not in control. We're looking at littlemite of
- 1:55:20a time and I ask Marcus how much time has left, and he goes
- 1:55:25a minute and thirty four seconds. At this point, Mike is still playing
- 1:55:30his turn, so it gets to me. I call Star Alliance, go
- 1:55:34reep, reep, reep, start to draw, and time is called.
- 1:55:39I am drawing, and just like Dominic, who is in the same boats.
- 1:55:44Now I knew exactly that pain because he was Dominic was drawing. If
- 1:55:47Dominic gets one more time, one more turn, he wins the game on
- 1:55:50the keychie. If I get one more turn, I win, doesn't matter.
- 1:55:55I'm drawing. Mike comes back and he plays Timmy, which frankly didn't
- 1:56:00really matter because it was end the time rules, but that kept from forging
- 1:56:03keys. And then we checked for Amber and he has the chance to be
- 1:56:06able to reap out because he gets to finish his turn. Difference of amber
- 1:56:13very well. Played the bummer to see Woe make it in off of my
- 1:56:15back, but it's nice to see Woe that was open to be able to
- 1:56:18make it and it's it's a solid dock. It definitely do things. So
- 1:56:21you're the reason Well made it, huh. I am one hundred percent the
- 1:56:26reason Woe made it in and again it I played thirteen hours and fifteen minutes
- 1:56:32worth of great key for us in the last ten minutes. The last ten
- 1:56:36minutes is where I faltered, and it wasn't even all playing it, but
- 1:56:40I honestly messed up weak link with Fissiloa and that's on me. But it's
- 1:56:46just a real bummer that it goes to time, because if it doesn't go
- 1:56:49to time, games different. But again, if it doesn't go to time,
- 1:56:54I'm not there based on dominic So yeah, all right, short on
- 1:56:59time only, how'd you do? I was oh two out, had two
- 1:57:03scrappy matches against some in furnace decks, and two learning experiences on things I
- 1:57:10would have done differently. The first game, I had a da Hills tempting
- 1:57:15offered back to hand and I didn't want to play it. Because I want
- 1:57:16to push up his key cost and let him forge with the faust. And
- 1:57:19I should have just discarded those two cards gotten rid of it. Instead,
- 1:57:24I held on to it for a few more turns, and I think that
- 1:57:28ultimately slowed me down too much a number game. So barely lost that one.
- 1:57:32And then on the second match I had a fatal fatal error I left.
- 1:57:38There was one point I had left two board clears and the discard pile,
- 1:57:44and they both got knocked out by in furnace and there was nothing I
- 1:57:46could do to stop the board after that point against J. T. Russell,
- 1:57:50and he uh got a pretty much got his whole deck into his hand.
- 1:57:57About two great games, all right, wraps up day two. We
- 1:58:01move into days well, day three, right, this is uh, this
- 1:58:04is top cut day. Who made top cut? Sheep and me? I
- 1:58:11think she might have gone to bed. Yeah, I haven't faughn afleep yet,
- 1:58:16old man sheep is still around. Maybe she first sheep tell us about
- 1:58:21your top cut? Well, so right, I went five on day one.
- 1:58:28Fifth round was against Devin re flaming Hobo. I come back for day
- 1:58:32two and I get paired against Devin. Feeling good, feeling saucy. Uh
- 1:58:40no, no, because he is playing Minuity, which is also a double
- 1:58:44Battlefleep Key Abduction that has a higher much higher high roll than fraud Um and
- 1:58:51boyle boy did he high roll me? Is Deck did everything he wanted it
- 1:58:57to do. He had a library access turn that actually put his hold Deck
- 1:59:01into his hand, so the next day he could just go Battlefleet key Abduction,
- 1:59:04Battleflee Key Abduction, Battleflee Key Abduction. Good game, right, So
- 1:59:10that was that was what nim play key Forge. I mean I did make
- 1:59:15enough amber for two keys, but it didn't matter. And so the way
- 1:59:19it goes is at this point I think, yeah, I'm five and one
- 1:59:26and Devin is he had a first round by so I think he's also five
- 1:59:32and one at this point. But because I beat him in double limbs and
- 1:59:36he beat me in single limbs, I'm out. That was the end of
- 1:59:41me. It was a great game from Devin, like it is. The
- 1:59:44format, nothing nothing wrong with that part of it outside of there were several
- 1:59:49people who had to play the same people they played in the in the double
- 1:59:57limb rounds because the way they're bracketing software, and like I was seed one
- 2:00:02and Devin because of where he lost to me goes to the bottom of the
- 2:00:05bracket or seed eight, which means as long as he wins, we are
- 2:00:10guaranteed to play because then they then pay or one verses eight. So the
- 2:00:15way their bracketing software is currently designed, going into the first round of Top
- 2:00:19eight, you'll almost always play people you defeated earlier. That'll be interesting.
- 2:00:28But I was Top eight, m what did what did that get you?
- 2:00:33Yeah? I got absolutely nothing? UM, so that was fun and I
- 2:00:40do I do think this is something UM that gig can work on. I
- 2:00:45really like the patch that Marcus Frankly is a judge put out his own money
- 2:00:48for UM. It kind of represents the pins that we saw at previous faultur
- 2:00:53So that was awesome, But you want to have it is Honestly, that
- 2:00:57is one of those mementos that I will remember and I'm like, I'd like
- 2:01:00to see that for the other vts, the pins and I can put it
- 2:01:02on the carrying case iron but yet they are so on on yeah, but
- 2:01:11still really cool. Who owns an iron anymore anyway? But what we want
- 2:01:16is to have some mark that you made Top eight, that you made day
- 2:01:20two. So here's some sleeves, here's a matt, here's some trinkets.
- 2:01:26Well, and maybe that was there, but it's on the palette that's on
- 2:01:28the train. I don't think so, because they collected information from everybody else
- 2:01:32to send prizes for stuff. So I don't know. I think not no,
- 2:01:36shape they have your information. They didn't. They got they got five
- 2:01:40grand enterprises and that's it, right, But I think that's it is that
- 2:01:45I would instead of seeing the five grand that's there. I don't think that
- 2:01:49people are all coming and playing for the money some of those little trinkets that
- 2:01:54you can go ahead and put out for all players or for individuals who are
- 2:01:59making the top cuts. Let's there's also not a leaderboard anymore either, so
- 2:02:03like there is really nothing for making top cut. Well, and and again
- 2:02:10we don't there was a palette, the mysterious palette. I am willing to
- 2:02:16bet a significant amount of money that there is nothing. Well, I mean
- 2:02:21they would have. They would have just said we have stuff and we're gonna
- 2:02:25ship it, because they're shipping stuff for people who won sealed pots, right,
- 2:02:30Like, like I told you, they already have your information. So
- 2:02:32no, they do not have my information. How they don't they wrote your
- 2:02:35letter? So how much is a significant amount of money? Sheep? Ah,
- 2:02:41you tell me, m okay, how much are you willing to lose?
- 2:02:45Southerly? All right? See how you you hit top four? How
- 2:02:53was your experience? So? Yeah, day one, I had a buy
- 2:02:58Um. Then I play the feckless It was a Imperial four six semper tribute.
- 2:03:06Um kind of Dino deck. I super high rolled that game. Um,
- 2:03:12so I kind of just went off with my auto encoder. Everything was
- 2:03:15sitting exactly where I needed to go. The second my round three for me.
- 2:03:21My second actual game, I played Edo, who made top eight at
- 2:03:27KFC. I think it might have actually gone the top four. Fantastic deck,
- 2:03:30so it was actually kind of terrifying. Um. I did really well
- 2:03:33up the front of the game. In the end, it came down to
- 2:03:38whether I could draw a board clear after he put a lot of captured ambro
- 2:03:42on his dude. Luckily he didn't draw back into the Imperio fours a second
- 2:03:45time because he did fire once the whole So I actually fought two Imperio four
- 2:03:49jacks in a row. The Edo almost always fires, it's entire everything or
- 2:03:57just a day two. But they don't. I don't get to talk about
- 2:04:00my thing. You already did, no, I didn't. Okay, fine,
- 2:04:04but but she didn't talk about his first day's games. All right,
- 2:04:09fine, Day two, Day two nine. This is gonna this is gonna
- 2:04:13be like the Philly Vault Tour show. We said we were gonna be in
- 2:04:17it for a long time, Yeah, did we? We love keep I
- 2:04:25can hear sheep. Will he whine so much about everything he doesn't know when
- 2:04:29to stop, even if it's a whining about us. All right, anyway,
- 2:04:32So my Top eight match Day two was against Mike fun I whatever,
- 2:04:39Mike um and um, and he took me all the way to the time
- 2:04:45too. This was literally the first game in my entire Vault experience. And
- 2:04:49I'm willing to bet money no one's played in more about games than I have.
- 2:04:55Um. I've never gone a time and they used to be thirty five
- 2:04:59minut So yeah, I think some of that was, like it being Top
- 2:05:03eight, we were playing through lines a little slowly, but like it went
- 2:05:09all the way to the wired Amazon pink jacket. It's a very fast deck
- 2:05:14as far as like tempo goes in the pace of play, but we go
- 2:05:17all the way to the end, we're kind of battling around like. So
- 2:05:20at some point near the end, he'd played the visible hand or whatever the
- 2:05:26ecuadon card is that shows you your hand and it makes two tokens. But
- 2:05:30he showed me that he had Tomoti in his hand, and I saw him
- 2:05:33take two unfathomable turns at two fish turns after that, and like he didn't
- 2:05:40play the card, so like we're basically dancing around him knowing that. So
- 2:05:45I think it grinded the game down to a kind of a halt. At
- 2:05:49my final turn, I was debating a weather to go ahead and lock him
- 2:05:54into into fish and pushing high on Amber, knowing that he would just tomodi
- 2:06:00me or forcing the same kind of result into logos. But I had a
- 2:06:04lot of Logos cards in my archive and in my hand because at that point,
- 2:06:09like my auto ancuter had been going off, so I had just a
- 2:06:12ton of cards to look at while I was doing the math to decide whether
- 2:06:15to go into logos that turn versus the dis turn. Time was called on
- 2:06:18my turn, I hadn't called my house yet, so at that point I
- 2:06:26did the quick amber math. I went into discs, I marked him into
- 2:06:30Fish. I pushed real high, knowing that he just called fish in his
- 2:06:34maximum possible amber could not exceed mine and that Timodi would not matter in the
- 2:06:42time roles because the time had been called before I called my house. I
- 2:06:46think had we played it out since I had redacted online, I would have
- 2:06:49won naturally as well, based on the math on the logos that I was
- 2:06:55counting up. So I would have liked to have finish the game naturally.
- 2:07:00But it did not work out that way. But like, since I basically
- 2:07:02knew his hand right like because he showed me his hand, so I just
- 2:07:06had a lot more to calculate at that moment. But great game. That
- 2:07:12was absolutely fantastic, And I talked to like, I talked to Mike literally
- 2:07:15after the game. I was like, that turn one, you did this,
- 2:07:17later, you did this. Had he been playing his prospectors in a
- 2:07:23different way, I honestly don't know if I win that game, like just
- 2:07:27straight up, because there's different ways to value prospectors than what he was using
- 2:07:31them for. But what was real and it's here. And he opened that
- 2:07:35light the day before, which is wild because I definitely did not open Mike
- 2:07:41round. I've never opened anything like that, so I'm looking forward to see
- 2:07:46where that goes. Very next round, though, I was playing that's damn
- 2:07:53decks called I think it's called Countess. I was playing it pretty good.
- 2:07:59It's actually very gooddeck called Countess Bullseye thing. It's dislogo storing. It does
- 2:08:07not have like a super flat flashy sass or whatnot, but it has a
- 2:08:11gigantic exile combo. It's got some stuff to set up the combo. In
- 2:08:18the game that I was playing, it did not draw any like set up
- 2:08:20pieces. It just naturally drew into this. So here's the turn four that
- 2:08:24I will never forget. I had four amber. He no. I had
- 2:08:30six amber. He started with four. He had a Sparta Soar and a
- 2:08:37the four one legionary dude that when he fights he can exalt you someone else.
- 2:08:41I had no creatures on the board. At the start of the turn,
- 2:08:46he lands the Terror Dactyl and he plays Tribute exalts it, so he
- 2:08:52takes four of my six. Then he plays a second tribute. This is
- 2:08:56hand of his six cards. He has not archived anything or anything like that.
- 2:09:00Second tribute takes two of my amber. So he's captured six. He
- 2:09:03exalts to seven. Then he exiles the Pterodactyl to my side of the table.
- 2:09:09Then he plays Imperium on his own two dudes, and then he plays
- 2:09:13Regrettable Meteor as his sixth card. All soar In pops his too awards,
- 2:09:22kills the Pterodactyl, gains Amber rapes with the two guys in his turn with
- 2:09:28twenty one Amber in his pool, and I have zero on turn four and
- 2:09:37the end I did to conceie like right before I was about to four to
- 2:09:41my second key, but I did. Actually I should have been able to
- 2:09:43get back to a second key there before the conceit, but yeah, he
- 2:09:50took it that. I will never forget that turn the deck is fantastic.
- 2:09:56He does have things that could have set that combo up, like like as
- 2:10:00a handcrafting state, but in this case it just drew into it. And
- 2:10:03that is key forge. Sometimes the crucible says you shall not pass, and
- 2:10:09that definitely happened in that whoa, whoa. I think that's gimmick infringement right
- 2:10:13there. I don't know if we can do that. I don't know.
- 2:10:15I don't know if we could do that. But yeah, like he went
- 2:10:18on to face Devan. He didn't make it past Devin, but congratulations he
- 2:10:22made he was making the worlds and I ended right there at top four.
- 2:10:26Um, in theory, I'm gonna get some money for that, but we'll
- 2:10:31see, we'll see. Um. But yeah, that was my experience.
- 2:10:35I had a blast playing key Forge. The tournament structure does not affects me
- 2:10:41because I had won all the way up until that point. But I like,
- 2:10:45I like Arre talked about talking people down. I didn't talk anyone down,
- 2:10:48but I ran into three separate people that said they are no longer planning
- 2:10:52an attending events until the format changes. But that's as a whole different thing.
- 2:10:56I had fun in my events. I'm excited about playing op key Forge
- 2:11:01again. All right, Well that takes us through that. Um. I
- 2:11:07mean, I know we got a few other things that you guys wanted to
- 2:11:09hit ze. You said you guys had some or draft Corp. Maybe I'm
- 2:11:13not hanging out with with some GG crew having some talks the very last day.
- 2:11:20Yeah. Yeah, so so day three, yep, we ended up
- 2:11:26hanging out at the hotel playing some games. I ended up facing Jeremy.
- 2:11:31I took him on and uh, yeah, it was fun just chatting whatnot
- 2:11:37and playing playing some key Forge right like he Um, you know, they're
- 2:11:43very busy and he isn't one of the primary playtesters, so he actually doesn't
- 2:11:48get that many chances to to play the game, um compared to you know,
- 2:11:54like a Michael Hurley who's actively trying stuff, tweaking stuff of changing stuff
- 2:12:00all time. So um, that was cool to play with him, and
- 2:12:03it was cool to play with other folks. Other folks there and uh z
- 2:12:09you were playing with Hurley. Yeah, we played, um vault Masters sealed
- 2:12:15his his deck like took took the win, like he beat me, and
- 2:12:18then he proceeded to beat I think Sheep, and then he beat Sydney like
- 2:12:24he went three. Uh with his his vault Master's deck, like mine was
- 2:12:28not great. They could not handle what he did, so like it had
- 2:12:31like three screech bombs or something that was funny. Um, and I had
- 2:12:35like no amber controls, so it's like, okay, you're I just lose
- 2:12:37the key here. And then I tried to win with just board reaping.
- 2:12:41Um it did not work out. Um. So yeah, I had a
- 2:12:43lot of fun just talking to him, playing the game. He's actually pretty
- 2:12:48good. He knows all the rules, he does some really his sequencing is
- 2:12:52good, very well played. Um that's good to you know. He's the
- 2:12:56one of the lead designers. I think he is the lead designers. So
- 2:12:58I'm glad he knows how to play the game, um at a good level.
- 2:13:05All right, tell me about Senior Z talking to himself. I didn't
- 2:13:09write that drafts controlling me here. Well, we were, and actually that
- 2:13:16might have been on day four. I think it was. Actually we were
- 2:13:20heading to the airport. Yeah, and uh so we pop on our own
- 2:13:26podcast, which which apparently Ze never listens to. And yeah, I don't
- 2:13:35listen to our podcast either, because I was there. I lived it well,
- 2:13:39right, But we were listening to our own projections to see how wrong
- 2:13:43we were. The answer is very wrong. And although you were pretty on
- 2:13:48point, Bookie, So kudos to you, sir. There you go.
- 2:13:54Um, and so, like we're like halfway through the podcast, I forget
- 2:14:01you said do something like why didn't you guys tell me I sound like shit
- 2:14:03or something like that. They were like, what are you talking about?
- 2:14:07Like I like paused it. I was like, guys, one of you
- 2:14:13should have told me to get a better mic, like hold on, hold
- 2:14:16on, let me, let me, let me go ahead and go back
- 2:14:20into the chat um. So I need a better mic situation. I say,
- 2:14:28you don't say, he goes the ball. That was me listening at
- 2:14:33that moment. That's what that that statement is for, because I was literally
- 2:14:35texting from the car. Yeah. Yeah, And I've only been telling Z
- 2:14:41this for oh geez, there was three years now and four. We even
- 2:14:48went as far as to get Z a better mic at one point in time,
- 2:14:52and he just refused to use it. I set it up. I
- 2:14:56just forget it to turn it on sometimes all the time, and it's on.
- 2:15:03I hopefully I sound better today. It sounds significantly better. I hope
- 2:15:07you got to have it on. I've got this like mic stand like to
- 2:15:13punch me in the face at the trust me, trust me, it ain't
- 2:15:16gonna mouth. It ainta hurt. It's like that ball, come anka hurt
- 2:15:18you. I'm just not used to big balls face like a well, well,
- 2:15:24to be fair, my microphone isn't a ball. The shaft one could
- 2:15:31say that. Yeah, and this is where we completely digress. Okay,
- 2:15:35our kind of after dark. But anyway, it's changed a big Z for
- 2:15:41like what one day. Yeah, so I mean it's it's funny. Yeah,
- 2:15:45I've only been saying this for like three years. We got it.
- 2:15:48Like at one time, I gave my I gave you a whole mic set
- 2:15:50up, and I think you gave it to Eric he was doing our whatever,
- 2:15:56right, that's regardless, Like it is what it is. So now
- 2:16:01you have the proper setup and and we're good to go. Now, so
- 2:16:05it's all better fine here now, how are you? Um? So yeah,
- 2:16:13we figured that out. Um, I think again, we're gonna go
- 2:16:16to the drazz Core experience on a Patreon episode. So, um, if
- 2:16:22you are interested in hearing about the drazz Core experience, for a dollar or
- 2:16:26I think it's actually five bucks a month, you get the extra episodes.
- 2:16:30Um, I have no idea. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.
- 2:16:33For five bucks a month you get the extra episodes. Um, but when
- 2:16:37that's well worth it when you can hear about Jay Power and seven who both
- 2:16:41one so you can hear from Jay Power and Devon. This wraps up the
- 2:16:48official Philly Vault VT super Mega Uper Duper Super Saian Show. Um, we'll
- 2:16:54go into more double elimination here in the next upcoming weeks because it is it
- 2:16:58is a big point of contention right now. As far as that and as
- 2:17:03well as the second number, I think we'll we'll hit up next week depending
- 2:17:07on where we land with news and all that stuff. Hopefully Gigi gets us
- 2:17:13something with some numbers, because we like numbers and we have predictions. Well,
- 2:17:18I think if they share that, it's just actually going to be good
- 2:17:22for the field to see, because I think people did pretty well with stuff
- 2:17:26that other people need to see that they did well with but like they wouldn't
- 2:17:30be expecting, especially a lion tech. The only other thing we can really
- 2:17:33get into um into our discussion is our top eight predictions would strategy. We
- 2:17:43can go under that next week for perfect we can do that next week where
- 2:17:46we're already two hours and twenty minutes, and so yeah, I my final
- 2:17:50thought, I know sometimes yes, yeah, go ahead. Is my final
- 2:17:54thought is I had a great time. My experience was excellent. I did
- 2:17:58not lose any of my games on day one, though lots of people do
- 2:18:01not have that same experience. If you're at Philly or you've been thinking about
- 2:18:05going to vaults and what the experience we describe with JR and the nine am
- 2:18:11to eleven pm experience. If that is something that you did not like at
- 2:18:16Philly or you're worried about going into go to their site. There is a
- 2:18:22little feedback form. You can either choose customer service or other and write organized
- 2:18:28play as a title and describe like your feelings about that situation and how it
- 2:18:35impacts whether or not you will be attending vaults in the future. All of
- 2:18:39that can be collected as artifacts from either Josh or Jeremy to present to the
- 2:18:43only person that can actually make the decision whether this format changes to something more
- 2:18:50palatable to a positive player experience. I don't think you're going to see a
- 2:18:54format change this season, but possibly if you don't submit it, and we
- 2:19:00won't. But if absolutely our entire competitive player base submits this and tries to
- 2:19:07get this done, that is a big difference from them not listening. Then
- 2:19:11if we don't say anything and they continue as they continue, like all they
- 2:19:16can do is ignore us or say no, right, but at least we've
- 2:19:20said our peace. If you're whining about it or complaining about it in a
- 2:19:24discord and not and you have not submitted that form, please just stop saying
- 2:19:30anything at all. First, and it's important that we speak up not only
- 2:19:35for the players but also for the staff and the judges who are there too.
- 2:19:39Those are very long days because they're there before us and after us,
- 2:19:43yea earlier on the cast. Like there is a scenario where like AC could
- 2:19:50potentially run something for gg. I will never run an event in this format
- 2:19:58period, so like there's no chance that like we do this stuff, you
- 2:20:03know, in this venue, like in this format um for the community,
- 2:20:09and we would like to particially be able to do that. Just this is
- 2:20:13not something that I'm going to staff judges for or even potentially pay people twelve
- 2:20:18thirteen hours for as judges, Like that's that's not a thing it is.
- 2:20:24It is beyond asking, you know, normal people that work these things to
- 2:20:30do like Gee and Marcus did fantastic. They put a lot of time into
- 2:20:33that day and I'm sure they were exhausted and they didn't need to be.
- 2:20:37There was no reason that that that had to be a thing, all right,
- 2:20:43dras score watching guy. I had a great time, and I hope
- 2:20:48to see more of you listeners at the next event. And the next event
- 2:20:54is gen Con and uh I will be there and it's my first gen Con.
- 2:21:01I'm excited to do key Forage, excited to experience other gen Con things.
- 2:21:05Yeah, so I'm still shocked this is your first gen Con. But
- 2:21:09is what it is? Well, it's it's immediately after the World Board Gaming
- 2:21:11Championships the week before, and I've always gone to that. Got it,
- 2:21:16E walk what you got. I appreciated being able to get out in real
- 2:21:22life play and to see so many new friends, so many new faces at
- 2:21:26key Forge. Saturday was impacted by again the double elimination, so it really
- 2:21:35did have an impact and being able to go out whereas typically we would finish
- 2:21:39any other vault around seven and you could grab dinner at that point and then
- 2:21:41just socialize. So for me, if you made top whatever, correct,
- 2:21:46but even just the idea for people getting together and we have a phenomenal community.
- 2:21:50I did appreciate Sunday for all those who are kind of staying back.
- 2:21:56There was some wet other issues and hopefully everyone has made it home at this
- 2:21:58point or caught up caught a ride. I know that flights are a real
- 2:22:03issue from many individuals, but shout out to everyone who stayed back and we
- 2:22:07went out to South House. So that's from Sydney Captain Stupendous, x Ray,
- 2:22:11Foolish, Big Jay Mam and Dge claims bend the Monkey Like. Those
- 2:22:16are the moments that Yeah, I'm sad about not making you know day two
- 2:22:22and that top cut, But it's also the camaraderie and just being able to
- 2:22:26talk shop about key Forge when I'm in groups like South House that I will
- 2:22:31remember it's what keeps drawing me back to the ball tours. So I really
- 2:22:35appreciate that, and I feel very blessed that gig is putting on events.
- 2:22:41I just we want to strive for better in the format, just because we
- 2:22:45know that this game can continue to grow and we want the best for it.
- 2:22:50And finally it's sadly Yeah, so Philly g sneaks are not brain food.
- 2:22:58I don't care how many calories are in there, They're not brain food.
- 2:23:03That's true. Yeah, you eat well at the vaults and doesn't matter
- 2:23:07whether you have four roommates or that an alarm in the morning so they will
- 2:23:11not wake you up. M fair enough, and you want to you want
- 2:23:20to call some folks out who who didn't wake up? Yeah, no,
- 2:23:22no, no, no, I can know like I know some names there,
- 2:23:28they know who they are. With that being sad, thank you all
- 2:23:31for joining us in the live chat as per normal. Make sure you're following
- 2:23:37us on all social media. I've been having some fun with a little editing
- 2:23:41tool that I recently found UM and posting some some fun stuff, So make
- 2:23:46sure you're following us on all the social media's If you want to stick around
- 2:23:50after, we will be designing the AC team shirts right after this. It's
- 2:23:56not gonna be much of a design. It's basically gonna be picking a shirt
- 2:23:58that we like. UM. If you want to do that, stick around,
- 2:24:01join us in chat. Are we going to into the corner chat and
- 2:24:07we'll see y'all next week. Happy fortune everyone, May the forage be with
- 2:24:13you. Yeah. Conversations at the level lot has a fun times. Try to get
