  Speaker 2: What's up, Longhorns?
• 0:01
Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us today on College Football Addiction.
• 0:04
Speaker 1: We are presented by Price Picks. We're all new users
• 0:06
Speaker 1: who play a $ 5 lineup and win using code HMA.

Speaker 1: Get $ 150 in lineups instantly. We've talked about the expectations
• 0:16
Speaker 1: around this Texas Longhorns football program, and they are at
• 0:19
Speaker 1: a fever pitch heading into the new season. When a
• 0:22
Speaker 1: program is built to ultimately chase a national championship, every
• 0:27
Speaker 1: single rep in fall camp carries a little bit more weight.
• 0:31
Speaker 1: This week delivered an intense reality check on just how
• 0:34
Speaker 1: quickly things can change under live fire. Between high-stakes health
• 0:39
Speaker 1: scares and some revealing scrimmage feedback, the coaching staff is
• 0:42
Speaker 1: getting an honest look at this roster. There's plenty of
• 0:45
Speaker 1: reason for genuine excitement, but there are also warning signs
• 0:49
Speaker 1: that cannot be ignored. If you wanted to understand where
• 0:53
Speaker 1: this team actually stands right now, you have to look
• 0:55
Speaker 1: past the offseason noise. I've got a lot that I
• 0:58
Speaker 1: want to talk about today, so let's jump right into it.
• 1:01
Speaker 1: Back in the spring, Arch Manning was still working his
• 1:03
Speaker 1: way back from off-season foot surgery. In fact, he told
• 1:06
Speaker 1: reporters back then, I feel 100% right now. We're taking
• 1:10
Speaker 1: it kind of slow, but if we had a game today,
• 1:12
Speaker 1: I'd be playing. Well, now we are three months later.
• 1:16
Speaker 1: And that confidence is a distant thought because the back
• 1:20
Speaker 1: half of his 2025 season backed up the reason people
• 1:23
Speaker 1: believe in him entirely. Over his final six games, he
• 1:27
Speaker 1: threw for 1,714 yards with 14 TDs and just two picks.
• 1:32
Speaker 1: He added 206 yards on the ground and five scores
• 1:34
Speaker 1: there as well. To close out the year against A
• 1:37
Speaker 1: & M and Michigan, he racked up 208 rushing yards
• 1:41
Speaker 1: and three TDs on only 16 carries. As a season starter,
• 1:45
Speaker 1: he was pressing so hard to be perfect that it
• 1:48
Speaker 1: drained some of the joy out of the job. He said,
• 1:51
Speaker 1: we kind of got together and was like, we just
• 1:54
Speaker 1: have to go have fun, man.
• 1:55
Speaker 2: This hasn't been fun.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: Head coach Steve Sarkeesian pointed to the moment that Manning
• 2:00
Speaker 1: gave himself permission to simply be himself again as the
• 2:04
Speaker 1: true turning point of last season. He said, we play football.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: We don't work football. He described a September where his
• 2:12
Speaker 1: quarterback tried so hard to be perfect that he stopped
• 2:15
Speaker 1: being good. There was a crucial schematic adjustment mixed in
• 2:19
Speaker 1: there as well. From week seven onward, Manning's time to
• 2:21
Speaker 1: throw dropped from 3.14 seconds to 2.69 seconds, while his
• 2:27
Speaker 1: air yards per attempt fell to 8.6. It was more
• 2:31
Speaker 1: of a quick rhythm approach that masked some protection issues
• 2:36
Speaker 1: up front. It allowed him to play fast instead of overthinking.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Now the roster around him finally matches the superstar hype
• 2:44
Speaker 1: that he arrived with. Texas landed the top wide receiver
• 2:48
Speaker 1: in the portal, Auburn standout Cam Coleman. The Longhorns also
• 2:51
Speaker 1: added the Portals No. 3 and No. 6 running backs,
• 2:55
Speaker 1: Hollywood Smothers from NC State and Relique Brown. Up front,
• 2:59
Speaker 1: the offensive line carries 5,806 career snaps into Week 1,
• 3:03
Speaker 1: bolstered by Portal additions Melvin Ciani at tackle and Lawrence
• 3:07
Speaker 1: Seymour at guard. One SEC defensive coordinator who faced Manning
• 3:12
Speaker 1: last season spelled out exactly why that combination is an
• 3:15
Speaker 1: absolute nightmare to defend.
• 3:18
Speaker 2: He said he can absolutely rip it. like velocity, accuracy.
• 3:23
Speaker 1: He said it's going to be really easy this year
• 3:26
Speaker 1: because people are going to have to double Cam Coleman.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: He's a real one, and so is Wingo. So it's
• 3:31
Speaker 1: like you can't double both of them. The full season
• 3:34
Speaker 1: numbers still leave room for doubt, considering that Manning finished
• 3:37
  Speaker 1: 17th in ESPN's QBR and 14th in PFF's grading, with
• 3:42
Speaker 1: genuinely puzzling stretches against UTEP and Kentucky. Even with all
• 3:47
Speaker 1: of that, Vegas has installed him as the Heisman And
• 3:51
Speaker 1: NFL scouts give him a top 10 draft grade. And
• 3:55
Speaker 1: 2027's number one overall buzz is already attached to his name.
• 3:59
Speaker 1: For a Texas team that went 9-3 with three top
• 4:02
Speaker 1: 10 wins and still got left out of the 12-team playoff,
• 4:05
Speaker 1: the expectations finally match the circumstances. However, every single piece
• 4:11
Speaker 1: of that plan sits on one fundamental assumption, that Manning
• 4:15
Speaker 1: stays clean in the pockets. Then a little over a
• 4:18
Speaker 1: week ago, the man in charge of his blind side
• 4:21
Speaker 1: went down without anybody touching him. I'll get back to
• 4:24
Speaker 1: that in just a moment, but you guys have liked
• 4:26
Speaker 1: this in the comments, so I'll show it to you
• 4:28
Speaker 1: one more time. Go over to My Swaggy Merch, the
• 4:30
Speaker 1: link is in the description, and search for these logos.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: I love the Brutus and the Longhorn there. I think
• 4:37
Speaker 1: that's really cool. Everybody knows this is the game of
• 4:40
Speaker 1: the year in college football. Whether you want it on
• 4:43
Speaker 1: a t-shirt or you just want a sticker, You can
• 4:45
Speaker 1: go check it out there.
• 4:46
Speaker 2: Look, I've already gotten mine.
• 4:48
Speaker 1: And I'm going to put it on my laptop, maybe
• 4:50
Speaker 1: design that thing with a whole bunch of stickers by
• 4:53
Speaker 1: the end of the year, and then maybe just buy
• 4:54
Speaker 1: a new laptop at the end of the season.
• 4:55
Speaker 2: We'll see. But that'll be my 2026 one. Go check
• 4:59
Speaker 2: it out. Link is in the description.
• 5:00
Speaker 1: Appreciate it, my buddy, Mark, for setting that up. We
• 5:03
Speaker 1: want you to go check it out. And again, we
• 5:05
Speaker 1: appreciate them for all of their support. Trevor Goosby, the
• 5:09
Speaker 1: preseason first team All-American left tackle, suffered a non-contact knee
• 5:14
Speaker 1: injury during a practice last week, reportedly hyperextending his leg.
• 5:19
Speaker 1: For a program that's built around protecting the multi-million dollar
• 5:24
Speaker 1: face of college football, it's the exact moment that the
• 5:27
Speaker 1: whole room goes silent. Fortunately, the MRI came back with
• 5:31
Speaker 1: the best of news available, a bone bruise on his
• 5:35
Speaker 1: left knee. ESPN reported the diagnosis rules out the worst
• 5:39
Speaker 1: case structural damage, meaning no torn ligament, no surgery, and
• 5:43
Speaker 1: no lost seasons. Orange Bloods followed up on Wednesday with
• 5:46
Speaker 1: an expected timetable of.
• 5:48
Speaker 2: Two to three weeks.
• 5:50
Speaker 1: When you do the math on that, the outcome is
• 5:54
Speaker 1: somewhat survivable. In the best-case scenario, Goosby is on the
• 5:57
Speaker 1: field for that season opener on September 5th against Texas State.
• 6:02
Speaker 1: In the worst-case scenario of two to three weeks, he
• 6:04
Speaker 1: misses the opener but still returns on September 12th for
• 6:07
Speaker 1: the all-important showdown with No.
• 6:09
Speaker 2: 1 Ohio State in Austin.
• 6:11
Speaker 1: The stakes explain the initial panic because Goosby is not
• 6:15
Speaker 1: a replaceable body. Standing at 6'7 and 325 pounds, the Melissa,
• 6:20
Speaker 1: Texas native is ESPN's top tackle prospect for the 2027 draft,
• 6:25
Speaker 1: and he's also projected as a top 10 pick who
• 6:28
Speaker 1: chose to return for his redshirt junior season. In 2025,
• 6:32
Speaker 1: PFF credited him with three sacks and a said he
• 6:35
Speaker 1: allowed only 16 pressures across 807 snaps, though ESPN's own
• 6:40
Speaker 1: charting had him at just one sack and seven pressures
• 6:43
Speaker 1: on that entire same workload. Different methods, same conclusion, though.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: He started all 13 games and anchored the line in
• 6:51
Speaker 1: the best way possible. Bleacher Report scout Brandon Thorne wrote
• 6:55
Speaker 1: that Goosby holds the inside track to be the top
• 6:58
Speaker 1: blocker off the board. The clearest sign that Texas is
• 7:01
Speaker 1: not treating this as a crisis showed up in how
• 7:03
Speaker 1: the coaching staff rearranged practice. Redshirt junior Andre Cohoi slid
• 7:08
Speaker 1: in at left tackle instead of the coaches moving Wake
• 7:11
Speaker 1: Forest transfer Melvin Ciani back across the formation to the
• 7:15
Speaker 1: side that he played last year. That decision represents a
• 7:18
Speaker 1: temporary patch rather than a structural change, and coaches only
• 7:22
Speaker 1: patch when they expect their guy to be back soon.
• 7:25
Speaker 1: Sophomore Dylan Sikorski also picked up first-team reps at left
• 7:28
Speaker 1: guard while sixth-year senior Lawrence Seymour warped back from a
• 7:31
Speaker 1: injury hiccups suffered in the first scrimmage. Tackle depth at Texas,
• 7:35
Speaker 1: like almost everywhere in college football, is very thin. So
• 7:39
Speaker 1: how much shuffling actually happens depends entirely on how long
• 7:42
Speaker 1: Goosby is out. If he returns and plays like the
• 7:45
Speaker 1: All-American against the Buckeyes, this whole scare becomes a footnote
• 7:48
Speaker 1: that you guys will forget about come October. But a
• 7:51
Speaker 1: timetable on paper does not tell you whether you watched
• 7:53
Speaker 1: a patched-together offensive line that can actually function under live fire.
• 7:58
Speaker 2: The only way to learn that.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: Is to run into it and Texas did exactly that
• 8:03
Speaker 1: on Saturday. The Longhorns ran 120 plays at DKR in
• 8:07
Speaker 1: conditions that were close to punishment. The natural grass on
• 8:10
Speaker 1: Campbell Williams Field baked under the sun, which was entirely
• 8:14
Speaker 1: by design because the staff was simulating the 2.30 p.m.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: kickoff against Texas State on September 5th. The line worked
• 8:21
Speaker 1: through all of it without Goosby and without Seymour. For
• 8:24
Speaker 1: the second time in camp, the defense won the day.
• 8:28
Speaker 1: They generated four takeaways after the offense had gotten the
• 8:30
Speaker 1: better of the previous two practices. Sark said, I thought
• 8:33
Speaker 1: the defense came ready to go today. They created plenty
• 8:36
Speaker 1: of third and longs. I think they rushed the passer.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: They were sticky in coverage. The highlight belonged to freshman
• 8:41
Speaker 1: linebacker Kosei Okapala, who intercepted a pass and took it
• 8:44
Speaker 1: back for a touchdown. That moment came less than 24
• 8:48
Speaker 1: hours after junior linebacker Ty Anthony Smith was dismissed for
• 8:51
Speaker 1: conduct detrimental to the team, which shows you how quickly
• 8:53
Speaker 1: the depth chart can move. Manning played roughly 50 snaps
• 8:57
Speaker 1: and was in Sark's words, a little bit inefficient early.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: That echoed the same criticism he received after the first
• 9:03
Speaker 1: scrimmage where he threw two picks. He did finish strong,
• 9:06
Speaker 1: connecting on a late touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo and
• 9:08
Speaker 1: another one to Emmitt Mosley V. Mosley, who was limited
• 9:11
Speaker 1: in the spring after ankle surgery, hauled in two touchdowns,
• 9:14
Speaker 1: and freshman Jermaine Bishop Jr. added another score, which matters
• 9:17
Speaker 1: significantly given Sark's history of pretty tight receiver rotations. Sark
• 9:22
Speaker 1: also made it very clear that he wants more from
• 9:23
Speaker 1: Manning as a runner. He said maybe he can use
• 9:25
Speaker 1: his legs more, and I think we all know the
• 9:27
Speaker 1: value of him using his legs, especially in some of
• 9:30
Speaker 1: those third down scenarios. He sensed the natural fatigue of
• 9:33
Speaker 1: being three weeks into camp and noting that Arch is
• 9:36
Speaker 1: a great microcosm of the team, and I think that
• 9:38
Speaker 1: we can be a little more energized and a little
• 9:40
Speaker 1: more sharp. Here is why those four turnovers cut both ways.
• 9:44
Speaker 1: Sark pointed out that two of the last three national
• 9:46
Speaker 1: champions finished first nationally in turnover margin. that turnovers decide
• 9:51
Speaker 1: roughly 80% of SEC games, and that Texas has not
• 9:54
Speaker 1: lost a game while winning the turnover battle since the
• 9:57
Speaker 1: 2023 Alamo Bowl. Therefore, a defense taking the ball away
• 10:01
Speaker 1: is a gift, but an offense giving it away is
• 10:03
Speaker 1: usually a warning. The biggest win of the entire day
• 10:06
Speaker 1: may simply have been that 120 plays happened in 150-degree heat,
• 10:11
Speaker 1: and it produced no injuries. That means the next two
• 10:14
Speaker 1: weeks will answer everything all at once. We'll see whether
• 10:16
Speaker 1: Goosby beats the timetable, whether Manning's sloppy early snaps were
• 10:20
Speaker 1: just fatigue or something real, and whether that crucial turnover
• 10:23
Speaker 1: margin belongs to Texas or its next opponent. Texas State
• 10:27
Speaker 1: on September 5th is the dress rehearsal. Ohio State on
• 10:30
Speaker 1: September 12th is the verdict. And Ryan Day is 2-0
• 10:33
Speaker 1: against Steve Sarkeesian. I'm telling you, it's the game of
• 10:36
Speaker 1: the year, and we could not be more excited.
