- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready to learn a new verb? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing 'å sende' from last time. Now I feel like I can send texts in Norwegian. Lucas: Nice progress! Today we'll look at 'å gi' — to give. It's super useful. Luna: Å gi. Okay, I like the sound of that. How do I say 'I give'? Lucas: Jeg gir. Let me say it slowly: jeg gir. Now in a normal pace: jeg gir. Luna: Jeg gir. Jeg gir. That feels good. Lucas: And if you want to ask someone 'do you give?' you say 'gir du?' Luna: Gir du? So 'gir' is the base, and we add 'du' for the question. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's put it in a sentence. 'I give you' is 'jeg gir deg'. Luna: Jeg gir deg. So 'deg' is 'you' as the object. I remember that from earlier. Lucas: Perfect. And 'can you give me' is 'kan du gi meg'. Luna: Kan du gi meg. Oh, 'gi' stays the same with 'kan'. Lucas: Right, after modal verbs like 'kan', the main verb stays in the infinitive. So 'å gi' becomes just 'gi'. Luna: So 'jeg kan gi'? That means 'I can give'? Lucas: Exactly! Jeg kan gi. You're catching on fast. Luna: Okay, let me try all of these. Å gi – jeg gir – gir du? – jeg gir deg – kan du gi meg? – jeg kan gi. Lucas: That's it! Now let's imagine a quick scene. Say you're at a birthday party. Someone hands you a present. You can say 'jeg gir deg en gave'. Luna: Jeg gir deg en gave. 'En gave' is a gift, right? Lucas: Yes. And if you want to ask for something, like 'can you give me the book?', you'd say 'kan du gi meg boken?' Luna: Kan du gi meg boken? I think I can use that when I want to borrow something. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's practice a little dialogue. I'll be the giver. I say 'jeg gir deg en kopp kaffe'. Luna: Tusen takk! Jeg elsker kaffe. Lucas: Oh, nice response! So you just used 'jeg elsker' — I love. Great. Luna: Thanks! So now if someone offers me something, I can say 'tusen takk' and use 'jeg gir deg' back if I give something. Lucas: Right. And if you want to say 'I give it to you', it's 'jeg gir det til deg'. Luna: Jeg gir det til deg. 'Det' is 'it'. So 'til deg' means 'to you'. Lucas: Exactly. You're doing great. Let's review all our phrases one more time. Repeat after me: å gi. Luna: Å gi. Lucas: Jeg gir. Luna: Jeg gir. Lucas: Gir du? Luna: Gir du? Lucas: Jeg gir deg. Luna: Jeg gir deg. Lucas: Kan du gi meg? Luna: Kan du gi meg? Lucas: Jeg kan gi. Luna: Jeg kan gi. Now, let's practice one more time with a fun scenario. Imagine you're giving a friend a gift. Say 'jeg gir deg en gave'. Luna: Jeg gir deg en gave. Lucas: Perfect. And if the friend says 'tusen takk', you can say 'vær så god'. Luna: Vær så god. That's 'you're welcome'. Lucas: Exactly. Keep practicing these phrases. Å gi is a verb you'll use all the time. See you next episode!
