- 0:00SPEAKER_01: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Shining at the end of every day.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: There's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: Just a dream away.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome to Of Mice and Main Street Men.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I am Tristan.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And I am Sean.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: And how are you, my friend?
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: It's a good week.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: You know, I didn't, I didn't, I was on jury duty, but I didn't have to show up.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: So, you know.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: That's the best kind.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I yeah, kinda, because at least now, as long as I make it through next week, when I'm supposed to be in New Mexico, uh, without jury duty, then I won't like have the possibility of being called for a couple years.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: I hear.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: That's an Iowa thing.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It's a great thing.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I I got called a couple years ago, and it was going to be while I was not here.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And so I got to call suggested postpone it, and then it got postponed to another month, and I called that month, and the case got dismissed, and I was released.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And I was like, hey.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: So yeah, around here we call that we call that getting Velveteen Rabbit rabbited.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: And that's actually because well, because Jackie got called for jury duty at one point, and it was December, and she was the blue fairy in in uh blue fairy?
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: I think she's a blue fairy in Velveteen Rabbit.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Maybe she's just a fairy.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure what color of fairy she is, but no judgment.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: But uh, but she was like, I I'm called for jury duty, but um, you know, I'm in this kid show.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: And if the blue fairy isn't there to turn the velveteen rabbit real, you know, it's really gonna be horrible.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: And they were like, Yeah, there won't be a case this month.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Go ahead and take it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: You'll you you are not likely to be called.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: And if you are, just tell the judge you have to make the velveteen rabbit real, and I'm sure he'll let you off.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So that's all it takes in uh the state of Iowa.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Just tell him.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: As long as you're turning it as long as you're turning a toy real, it's gonna be fine.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you know what?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: There's a there's a there's a deeper meaning in that, and good for good for everybody.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Uh and so so uh, you know, it's a big big month uh for Disney fans.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: There's a lot going on, especially on May 20.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was gonna say, this this week even is just like ouge.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, ouch, as they say in the biz.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, the videos are starting to come out, you know, with previews and stuff like that.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Which you know I will not watch.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I I was like, no, no, no, no.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: I will say, as we're recording, because we're recording on on the evening of May, is it 20th?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: This is the 20th.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Today is the 20th.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: They're they're doing like the you know, the press night over at uh rock and roller coaster with the Muppets, and Electric Mayhem is playing live outside.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Like the Electric Mayhem, like like my friend Matt is there.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: The yes, yes, yes, Matt is 100% there because the electric mayhem are playing outside with John Stamos, and it videos are amazing.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: So I would say go look at those because those aren't spoilery, you know, really.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: But I will say I have caught a few things.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, uh they have an animatronic that I can't believe is an animatronic.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I it's like they put Matt there just full time, he's just there 24 hours a day.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: It looks incredible.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Down to they put this Muppet has a rod on its arm, and it's an animatronic.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: They didn't need to put the rod on there, but they the rod is there.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Oh that that's uh that is Disney's that is Disney's attention to detail, sir.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's so impressive, and allegedly they motion captured a Muppet for the first time.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: So wow, I I'll be curious, but it looks impressive anyway.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: But that kind of ties in, you know, there's between that and Soren, there's a lot going on.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: That and Soren and and uh Smugglers Run, and Smugglers Run, yeah.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And like it's crazy.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's gone bonkers, and officially bonkers.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Officially bonkers.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So we thought it's not a great band's name, but it'll do in a pinch.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: It'd do in a pinch.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Officially bonkers.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know what?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I'd see that band, but what kind of music do they play?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Do they play like classical ska?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I think they do ska, yeah.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: But but they do uh I I think it's a very particular type type of ska.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: It's ska, it's like uh Bach in Mozart, but in a ska style, I think.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: You that's that's an interesting niche that we will have to explore.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Well, officially bonker is coming to a town near you.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Uh but because of that, there's all these re-themes happening and overlays and things.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: We thought it'd be a good time to kind of revisit, or maybe we've never even done this.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I don't think we have ever done this topic.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: You know, maybe 225 episodes, good for us to come up with something new.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: And happy 225 episodes.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: We're just well, honestly, we're only 25 behind the country.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, there are episodes which happen every week instead of like 250 years.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Well, sometimes, you know, every week feels like a couple years.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, but you know, that's you know.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, so we're gonna talk about our now.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I will say there was a text conversation where I know.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: You're having a stressful week and I made it.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: But it made me laugh because I was like, oh gosh, I I have not been going to Disney as much as Sean.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So, like, my you know, re-themes are very limited, so I have a lot more right.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And I had and I had so many listed that I admitted to you that I forgot Tiana's.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: I know, totally forgot it.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh yeah, that was a major one.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: It wasn't really a major one.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: It was a little controversy, big one.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: I left it off my list.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, surely Tristan will cover this since it's one of the two he said he's experienced.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: So yeah, so I put some more overlays on mine than re themes.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I have a few re themes as well, but I'm super curious to discuss yours because you know, there's a lot of things that like I was telling you, I only know Frozen as Frozen.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: I did not know it as Maelstrom.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Oh and I'm so sorry.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Brett, Brett and I will sit down with you the next time we do an episode, the three of us, and we'll talk you through it.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: We'll talk you through the oil rig, we'll talk you through walking through the theater where no one wanted to stop with all the sad Norwegian people who just wanted you to see the film about their history.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: It was heartbreaking.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: It was heartbreaking.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: To the point where Savannah did bring up, she's like, well, like technically, you know, where Winnie the Pooh is was where, you know, Mr.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Toad was.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I was like, that is stretching it maybe a little.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: It's like that just was like gutting an attraction and putting a new one.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: It's like you kept the same show building, maybe the same track.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Is it the same track?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you can Google that, but probably not.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: No, I wouldn't think so, but then you know, I'm still convinced that Dinosaur and Indiana Jones didn't have the same track, but yet I'm told I I know, I know.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Well yeah, talk about some of the re-themes that are to come.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's so much going on.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: So we thought it's time.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: The time has come.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Tis.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: It's an original topic, and I honestly I have so many things that like aren't on my list that probably should be.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: I'm fascinated by that because I just have not, like I said, not experienced that as much.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: But and and so, and after you said that, I was like, I'm gonna lean into at least a couple old school makeovers that or old school re-themings that even have been re themed since then.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Well, why don't you kick us off then, my friend?
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: All right, well, I'm gonna kick us off in a very predictable way because I have discussed this, but it makes my heart so happy.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I am placing in the number five slot Country Bear Musical Jamboree, which I will admit I had to like look up on the internet to see what its official title is these days.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, because you know, when I was a kid, it was the Country Bear Jamboree, but I'm like, I know it has a special name now, Country Bear Musical Jamboree, because as I've said before, the Imagineers did such a beautiful job of paying homage to what had been, but you know, just the reinvention.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, that Bunny Bubbles and Beulah now do uh try everything.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's such a catchy.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my god, but yet they kept the slideshow.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: It just it's the perfect blend of new and old.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: And now as a stockholder, I go, that's great.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Disney is only using songs that they own the rights to.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: So so yeah, perfect.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: No unnecessary expenditures there, but oh my God, it just it breathed, it breathed, yeah, breathed new life um into, and and we've said before, it's like, you know, you would go in and it would be kind of not, you know, there'd be a few people in there, but oh my god, to go back and have it be full and have people having such a great time and having the music be, you know, more relative, relative, relevant.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I think that was the word I was.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Relative and relevant.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: To to um, you know, to to younger moviegoers and younger Disney fans today.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and as I've said before, it's like I was never more excited than at that D23 when they announced it to think that Henry and Wendell would be relevant again.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Because, hey, I named my cats back when those names were not hip and cool.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And and and today, Wendell gets to sing with Teddy Berra.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, who thought?
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Who thought that would be possible?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: I know what a time we're living in.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: It is, it's truly a magical time, and so that is why number five on my list is the country bear musical jamboree.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Well, call your bookies, because that is my number five as well, the country bear musical jamboree.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Wow, and I I think this update really does exceed by um, and it's interesting because they were respecting the nostalgia of it all, but they weren't like trapped by it.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: And the animatronics and the format remain fam familiar, but the new arrangements let the bears really reinterpret these Disney classics, yeah, but but through their like established, so it's it's interesting because it's the tone that we all know is the country bears, but it's done, you know, Disney's just leaning into their identity and what the bears would do and say, okay, well, how would they perform these Disney classics?
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a really smart way to go about that.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: And because of that, I think it it really does succeed.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Because I will admit, the first version, I was always like, what is going on?
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: And now it, you know.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Well, Mama Don't Whoop Little Buford is a classic.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: And blood on the saddle.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: But I understand that people are a little more sensitive about the punchline being, I think you should shoot him instead.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Because that's not that's just not something we say about kids these days.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: No, and you know, the blood on the saddle one always got me too.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: And there's there's just something really charming about it and try everything.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: I'll admit, I do play that version in my car because these country bear versions of these songs are fantastic.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I've gotta say, D23 member that I am, and so excited about the ultimate fan event this summer.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: I I got my uh because I am a choice member, so I get to pick one of the premiums.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, I am too.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: And and so wait, you said you are too?
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: What was your choice?
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Have you had to make your choice?
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what did you do?
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I did I did the Roosevelt uh you did do the Roosevelt.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, I did, and the reason I bring it up is because God bless them, they are really embracing the inner fans.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: One of the squares is Bunny Bubbles and Beulah.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't even notice that on there.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: No, it's awesome.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: And Oswald, and I just uh it's such a great shirt.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: I did the uh the lounge fly.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, right.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: You did, I think you did say that.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, with the in the ears.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: So right, yeah.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: So okay.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: All right, all right, well, so we so we we agreed at number five the country bear musical jamboree.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: That is it.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: All right, all right.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm gonna so in homage to uh the the new uh smugglers run update, I uh the Millennium Falcon Smugglers, which is now what Millennium Falcon, Mandalorian, and Grogu?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Is the name of the I don't know if things officially changed?
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Uh so in homage to that, I am gonna do the throwback to Star Tours The Adventure Continues.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Did you did you experience the original Star Tours?
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I did briefly because it was right before they changed all that over.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Because I God love I Rex is great, and I'm so glad he found employment.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it was I was a little I was a little bummed that you know, maybe just bounce around the universe and God knows what would happen to him.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: But he found employment at Oga's, and I think that's great.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: But man, you know, the the leap that that attraction took from being a really cool, I mean, it was George Lucas sanctioned, you know.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: He he he totally, you know, was a part of the creation and a flight simulator, and I mean the whole thing was really cool, and you got to, you know, do that that, you know, awesome like final scene of destroying the Death Star, but it was the same every time you wrote it.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: And suddenly Star Wars The Adventures can the adventure continues broke that mold.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: It it made it something that changed every time.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: You know, you had those components, and it's like, well, where is this section gonna be?
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And who is going to show up to talk to you and you know, and where are you gonna end?
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: And so so for those of us who spent a lot of our younger years on star tours, that was just an amazing uh reinvention.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And I guess I mean, is it it yeah, it's a re-theme because you know, suddenly now poor Rex was unemployed, but at least, you know, we got C3PO and R2D2.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: And they needed a gig.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah, it had been a while since they'd worked.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: So it was good to see them back in the saddle, but um which there was no blood on, by the way.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Um a saddle with no blood on is an interesting band name, but maybe not the most interesting.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe not.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Um, but but yeah, so so number four on my list is Star Tours, The Adventure Continues.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Um I I'm sad.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Which is also getting updates.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: It is that getting updates for for Mandalorian and Grogu?
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that is.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: I know it they they announced some updates for that, but I don't know.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Because I even remember, I even remember we were at actually, I think when we went in 2019, wasn't that the release of episode nine?
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Like the day we were there, they were putting in new footage, yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Or you know, new scenes from episode nine, and I go, good for you, Disney.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: You just are keeping this relevant.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: So an amen to that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: So so what's your number four?
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: So my number four is actually the Haunted Mansion holiday at Disneyland.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: I really wanted to put that on my list until I decided I was well, actually, Jackie was like, Yeah, there's just keep it to just keep it to uh re-theming.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: She's like, there's so many overlays.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: But then when you were like, I have some on my list, I was like, oh, don't change your list.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Because that was that was super high on my list when I thought I would include those.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it was interesting because I have only experienced Disneyland's haunted mansion with the overlay, because we've been there twice.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Well, and honestly, it's not much different than Florida when it's not no, and so I I think what makes this succeed though it feels more, and I'm trying to think of the word I don't know, fusion is the word, but it's not like it doesn't seem like it's a takeover as much as kind of a marriage of what's already like there, because instead of replacing the tone, the nightmare before Christmas is kind of it's layered on top of it and it kind of matches, yes, and which I think is what makes it so such a brilliant, such a brilliant reinvention.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jack Skellington's just hijacking the estate for a season, essentially.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: But uh I think the episodic structure of the Haunted Mansion already uh makes it perfect for something like this.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: And oddly enough, like Danny Elfman's musical style really works well in there.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And um totally and it you know, and every year it's it's billed as you know an event rather than just like uh a tweak for a while, you know what I mean?
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: So like fans r return annually also to to spot the changes because that's something I didn't realize, I guess, was well, and the g because the gingerbread house in the middle of the table changes every year.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Changes, yeah.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, it just feels kind of like mischievous and it's not cynical at all.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: And the overlay, you know, knows it's crashing a classic, and I think some of the self-awareness in it really makes it all work.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I love it.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: So that's my number four is Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Well, that's nice for you.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: That's that's nice.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I I meant that sincerely.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: No, I know that was just that's nice for you.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, because truly, that was one of the first things I thought of in terms of like things that have been, you know, a delightful surprise to go, oh, you've taken this thing I know, and you've made it new and exciting and awesome.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, so my number three, and this is actually a two-in-one, this is kind of a of a loo, because I will I I and I did lean into the old school a little bit because I wanted things that when Brett listens, he can appreciate too.
- 19:58unknown: Sure.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: That he and I can bond over some of these things that you have no idea.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Um, but my number three is test track one and test track three.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Both of them.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Both of them were cool re-themings.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know, is technically is test track three a retheming or just an improvement?
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: And I know some people would say that taking the car design out of the queue was definitely not an improvement, but you know, I the the original world of motion, which I did enjoy as a kid, you know, it was fun, but test track just became exciting.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Test track was like, oh wow, this is so cool.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: You like go through the experimentation phases of cars and you get baked in the heat and you get cold in the cold, and you know, and then you like skid out and try to avoid a semi, and then you get to race around the building.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: It's like that was a very cool uh re-theming.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: And then, of course, we downgraded with Test Track 2.0, which was like, what the hell is this?
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Um, except it added the car design, so good for it.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: But then I do I do love the new version.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: It it pays again a delightful wink and a nod to the original.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Um because I do believe at some point the actual quote is said world of motion.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: And uh I just I it it made me happy.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: So so I'm getting two for one in there with the f with the switch to test track and the latest reboot.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: I you know, I just did the new test track and I didn't even uh include it on my list.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So I'm happy that you did because I really do love the new version of it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: Uh it's really lovely, especially the scene that you're talking about where they mentioned that.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: And Right before you take off that new scene is incredible.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Uh that's a good thing.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: And and also the reflection of the reflection of the original car, too.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: It's like Yeah, that's really cool.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it really worked well for me.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: I loved it.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: And so good good choice.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: I'm glad that you brought that up.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: What is your number three, sir?
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: My number three is uh this base mountain holiday overlay in Magic Kingdom.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, yes.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: The first time I experienced that was a share which is called what?
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Jingle Mountain?
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what it's called.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: No.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: I Space Mountain Holiday Overlay.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I don't even know if it has a name, but I think Space Mountain for me has always been one of those things that I'm like, it's uniquely suited for overlays because it's just I mean, the whole thing is called projections and a soundtrack.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: So like you don't need to like worry about the story beats as much.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: It's just speed and darkness.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: But I think the holiday lights in music really alter the perception without really changing the ride that much.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: And you know, guests experience the same layout, but you can process it differently with the the holiday lights and the the soundtrack.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And I think it benefits because you can kind of lean into the just the spectacle rather than any kind of like Disney lore, you know what I mean?
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: And I think that fits with Tomorrowland's kind of uh strangely abstract identity that we're crisis that we're going through.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: It's um it's a good reminder that Disney sometimes you don't need to overthink it, you can just like change how the ride feels by doing like something simple by changing the music or the lighting, and it really does work.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I think there's too much of uh like so much thought process that you can overthink stuff at Disney.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: But this is like a simple like put a different soundtrack in there, put some lights in there, brilliant, done.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: And so Jingle Mountain is a jingle mountain, yeah.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: We'll call it Jingle Mountain.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I think that's a great name.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Pretty sure that'll be in the next December uh map of the park.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Now, Jingle Mountain is a good band name, but they only play for the holidays.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: And they just play like you know Appalachian Mountain tunes.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: With handbells.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: With handbells and only handbells.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: It's a strictly handbell band.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: Ooh, which is also a good band name, strictly handbell band.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Strictly handbell band.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: No more marketing needed.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: That's it tells you what you need to know.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Right up front, just right up front.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Um, all right, so my number two.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm gonna pivot here because I'm gonna I'm gonna say maybe you have my original number two here.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Um because I don't know.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: I'm I maybe you do, maybe don't.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna go back to another old school choice.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: I will say, I will say that Jackie really wanted me to include the Incredicoaster on this list.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: And she is correct.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: It is a really awesome re-theming.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because do you remember California Scream?
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course you don't remember California Screaming.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't, I'm telling you.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: It had a cool, it had a cool like California like Beach Boy vibe kind of soundtrack, as I recall.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Um but anyway, um, I'm just throwing that out there because she was a real proponent of that being on the list, and I so I want to give it at least a strong honorable mention.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: But so I'm gonna pivot from my original number two and go to something that was on my backup list, and that is Ellen's Energy Adventure.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, because yeah, because I mean, talk about old school.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: It's like the original universe of energy many people, and I will not say that they are completely wrong, considered it the biggest.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, more so than listen to the land, they thought it was like the big nap.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: It's like you went in, you'd been hot outside, it was kind of cool in there, you were just in these giant cars, and it was it was a very dry presentation, I will say that.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Um and when it became Ellen's Energy Adventure, and you suddenly had like Ellen playing Jamie Lee Curtis and Albert Einstein in Jeopardy, hosted by Alex Trebek in the pre-show area, and then it it just it brought it brought new life to that original like opening day Epcot attraction.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: So I'm so and I and I brett, I I brett, I bret our friend Bet, I bet our friend Brett would agree with me that Ellen's energy adventure belongs on this list of uh my favorite re-themings.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: I I wish I would have been able to experience that, and sadly I did not.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Well, yes.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, oh, you you didn't need to experience the original universe of energy, because oh man, especially the wrap-up.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Oh it's just it was it was heavy on the info, light on the taintment.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Light on the taintment, that's a good band name, right?
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Light on the yeah, light on the taintment.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: You gotta be careful how you spell that though, because if you misspell light on the taintment and add an extra T, you know, you don't Google that, sir.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Don't Google that.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's something you get in Amsterdam.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Um well, sure.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Uh so what's your number two?
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Um light on the taintment.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Um that's really good.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm glad that we make ourselves laugh.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know if anybody else is laughing, but we are.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: And if no one else listens, at least we're entertained.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: So my number two is uh Living with the Lamb's Glimmering Greenhouses.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, very nice, sir.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, this overlay really tickled me and made me feel all of the feels.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't because it was like forcing IP or like any crazy spectacle, but it like it just enhanced everything that was there just enough because those holiday lights accentuated the greenhouse in just the right ways and used the shapes that were there, and it didn't feel like it distracted from anything, it just like enhanced the experience for me, and that had seasonal plants, it reinforces the edutainment mission.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just found it so meditative in a weird way, and as I've said before, this is Epcot at its best.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: It's quiet optimism, it's just beauty and storytelling through environment instead of these characters.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: And I will say, core memory, as I have said several times, my Christmas morning was spent on a boat by myself.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Dude, you will never forget that.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I was the first boat that day, and I was the only person rope dropping living with the land on Christmas Day.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, that's my Tristan.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: Also, thank you because I was like, oh, I think I called it infotainment earlier.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: It's edutainment.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Yes, but edutainment.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: Just adored glimmering greenhouses.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: It was like the perfect way because I started my day on Christmas Day and I ended my day on Christmas Day.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I hear you.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Living with the land.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: I will never forget sending you like the picture of the line at Glimmering Green, because yeah, that's you know, during the holiday season, it's like once it gets dark, that line increases explan exponentially.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it was a magical experience in the morning and even more magical at night.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: So I had to include it glimmering greenhouses.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: All right, so we're up to our number one.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, we are my number one.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And I do have a couple that are still like on my list that I would like to at least mention and give all the chance to eventually.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: But I have to say, and I mean I'm curious if my number two that I had originally is gonna be your number one.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe it didn't even make your list, and maybe it's not technically a re-theming.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, but anyway, my my actual number one, and I I think I've expressed this opinion many times, is actually Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout at California Adventure.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a great one.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a good one.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: I just well, I hey, I'm the one who forgot about Tiana's.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Apparently, apparently that was a different attraction several years ago.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: I just I've it slipped, it slipped to my mind.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Um uh but no, uh Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout is just and if you have not watched the behind the uh behind the attraction episode on Disney Plus, the one about uh Tower of Terror is so amazing, and they talk about the re-theming for Disneyland and the insanely short time period they gave Joe Rhody.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: It's just it proves again that it's like people who were like told you have to do this incredible thing in like six months, and it actually ends up improv well, I don't want to say improving, them's fighting words, because I know the Tower of Terror is a classic with a capital C attraction, and for good reason, but man, Mission Breakout is just so it's so fun.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, the different soundtracks certainly help.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: You know, seeing Rocket like run around on top of the bookcases and stuff in that room, seeing him reach down and snatch up that uh Walkman at the very end, it's like ah they just they did it right.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: And and that is why my number one uh my number one re-theme is Mission Breakout.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Ah, that's great.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: So what is yours?
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: So my number one is Tiana's Bayou Adventure, of course.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Yay, the one I forgot.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: The one you forgot apparently, apparently was it was something else.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: It was about a it was uh is it was about water mountain, I think is what they called it.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: That's what they're calling it.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Um I think you know this really did succeed, and I it solved multiple problems all at once, and it does so so thoughtfully, I think.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: And you know, the heart of that stayed the same.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: That long the log the long the log flume format remains they're a long flume, that's a long flume, that's a long flume on the road to Topiary.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, and uh, you know, there was no way to like change the track, of course.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: So, like that was always gonna be the heart of it, but what they did with the Princess and the Frog setting allows so much joy and forward motion, and it's perfect.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: That finale is amazing, and the original songs and the new characters really prevent it uh from being um a clip show attraction, which I think is what I wanted originally.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: I was like, I just want to see stuff from the movie, but then when I found that it was kind of a more, you know, a continuation, I was like, I don't know.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: But honestly, I preferred that and it because it feels so new, and and I do love that they didn't didn't just slap something on Splash Mountain, they you know re rewrote its emotional core, and the drop still thrills, but now that celebration at the end just feels so earned throughout that story, and it's just a breathtaking ride.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: It's my third favorite in that park, and I love it and I adore it.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: And I, you know, it it just it does all the things that a Disney attraction should do, and so that's why it's that number one, and that is Tiana's Bayou Adventure for all our Bayou friends out there.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: We pay them homage every week.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: So uh, were there any other things that were in the running for your lists that you didn't mention?
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I did have Test Track as a honorable mention, but I wasn't sure because I, you know, I I'm only two out of three in there.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: And um yeah, so and I mentioned Frozen because that was a gray area because I was like, man, Matterhorn and your frozen is such a completely re I know, and it's it's such a hot button issue, clearly, for for old school Epcot fans, because it that's one that was on my list, and it's like it it because honestly, it's it's such frozen is such a beautiful attraction, and God bless those those maelstrom people.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: It just I mean, thank you for telling me about the oil rigs in the North Sea, but man, it's like it's like I would much prefer to like leave my beach club hotel and stop at the boulangerie for a croissant and head on over to the frozen ever after attraction because it's just it's it's it's so fun.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: And and yeah, I'm sorry, maelstrom people.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I miss the Viking mural on the wall with where he has his Mickey ears on, but that was just a hidden Mickey, and it was a true improvement.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Um uh also on my list, I had Soarin' Around the World.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Now, Soarin' over California, that was a good attraction.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: It I I mean, and still it kind of set the bar, but it didn't, it felt weird at Epcot.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: So when Soarin' Around the World happened, even with its crooked Eiffel Tower, that that was that was what now I will say in the same building, frankly, in the same queue area, the the the re-theming that failed miserably was Food Rocks, as as Brett and I discussed.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: Food rocks was no, it was no kitchen cabaret, sir.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: I know, that's what you keep telling me.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: And I know, and the and the only other one that was on my potential list was Tiki Room under new management.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: And that was just, you know, it was a brief glimpse.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, a brief weird refresh that then they eventually were like, nah, never mind, we're gonna take it back to the original.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: But it was cool to have Iago and and Zazu there, and so I I think it boils down to Disney does a really good job.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: When they re-theme, it's it's usually better.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and something that just came to mind, I wish I would have put it on this list to begin with, or at least as I mentioned, was the Jingle Cruise.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Um because it it I but it's so minimal, really.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, they put some holiday jokes in there and string some Christmas lights.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: It's not like it's right.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, you yeah, you've shown me what you can do with Haunted Mansion Holiday.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: It makes me a little less impressed with the Jingle Cruise.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: But Jingle Mountain, man.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Jingle Mountain.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Well, Jingle Mountain is where it's at, you know.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: That's where all the cool kids are are hanging out, snorting the nose candy and having beverages, you know, up on Jingle Mountain.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: That's what they do.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Those kids.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Those those crazy kids.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Uh, but you know, hey, you know, if those crazy kids out there want to experience uh, well, cool kid summer, for instance, I bet you could help them out.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: I bet you I would love to.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: I would love to go to that Briar and Main uh website, BriarandMain.com, and uh you can click on my name right there and fill out a sheet, or you know, just go to Facebook, find me at Sean at Briar and Main and shoot me a Facebook message, or you know, or even shoot me an old-fashioned email, Sean at Briarandmain.com, and I would I would love to help you plan your next Disney vacation.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: So there you go or any vacation for that matter.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you do it, you do it all over there at Briar and Main.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: I do, I do try.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Well, so you gotta give them a buzz, you gotta give them a call, shoot them a message.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: But also, if you're not following us on social media of mice and main street men on Instagram and Facebook, you can also visit of miceandmainstreetmen.com.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: There's links there as well.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, thank you all for listening.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: And it's kind of cool that you're out there hanging out with us and you know cool.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: And and special hello to our friend Tia who's been under the weather.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: We're hoping you're feeling better, Tia.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: And um and uh yeah, we're gonna hopefully get some of our friends on the show here soon.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: I know Jonathan Gardner wants to come on.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: I'm sure we can get Kimberly back on.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, well, and and Emily and Aaron, shout out to you.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: I hope you're listening to this episode as you fly to Paris to experience Disneyland Paris.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: And Katie and Keegan just got back, so I'm hoping that uh we can coordinate a Disneyland Paris chat in the weeks ahead.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: That's exciting.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: With some folks who've just been there, just experienced the new Disney Adventure World, which I will say sounds a little like a fake theme park.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Well, can we, you know, before we let everybody go to the city?
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: Disney's Disney Adventure World, I get I go, okay, I get that you're pivoting from the whole uh, you know, studio aspect in France.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: It's like we're not gonna call it the studio anymore.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: And I will be super excited for the for the Lion King version of Splash Mountain, Water Mountain.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: But like I don't know, because you have Disney's Adventure World.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: I guess it's because we have Adventure Land here in Iowa, and that's like uh Well, here's my further issue with that.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: I was thinking about this.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: So Disney Adventure World, you have California Adventure, you have the Disney Adventure.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Why did you even include adventure in the name?
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Like in the world.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Especially like Adventure World.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: It's confusing.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Next time you name a theme park or next time you rename a theme park Disney, check with us first, okay?
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: Check with us, and I'm gonna have Sav talk to her friend Josh, and we're gonna figure out.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Hey Josh because right, yeah.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: You know, come on, man.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: She needs to she needs to remind Josh that he hasn't been on our podcast yet.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: Also that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: I'll see what I can do.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: But Mr.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: McCauley is always.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: Stare into his eyes, you know.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Uh sounds a little creepy, but okay.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Sounds a little creepy, but you know what?
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Staring into Josh's eyes, good band name.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: Uh thank you all for listening.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: And uh, as we say each and every week.
