- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: I really, I was like sure he was gonna call.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I'm gonna get a call any minute now.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: Let me make sure my phone is not on silent.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's not on do not disturb.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, yeah, I gotta, I gotta have the next few hours free because Usher's gonna call me.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Usher, baby.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to CultureShark, the non-sensical podcast because sometimes you need to see someone else in front of a camera and today it's me, maybe it's not me, maybe you saw this and said I just want to give him a chance because he deserves a chance in life.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Today I have a musical icon, a music writer, a man who I've enjoyed many times with his extraordinary skills of whaling that high note.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Please welcome Jay Hart.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: Hi!

- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's so comfortable.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of my go-to sort of like when I want to throw something on that looks good, you know, but you feel like shit in the inside and I'm like, you look good.

- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Please be with us on this hour-long journey of foolishness, fun, and factory.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: He said an hour.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah 45 minutes.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for letting me be a vocal beast.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: The likes of which are rarely seen in this business.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for guiding my foot firmly to the next of my enemies.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Please keep them jealous and secretly gagging in the privacy of their own home.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: Please continue blessing my friends and family with happiness, success, wealth, and inspiration.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for keeping me well fed, inspired, and entertained.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: May all my friends continue to be of the non-NPC, non-cardboard variety.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and lastly, thank you for all the twists and turns in this journey of life.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: You rock, gay, baby, Jesus.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: Amen.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: How was that?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought you were going to say Talladeganites for a second, like I know, I did think about it.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of an homage.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, thank you, me too.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I like to give flowers.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I love perceiving flowers.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my bad, we also have another girl here in the studio, which we should acknowledge.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have someone else in our lovely little hot seat you call it, our peanut gallery in the corner.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Please welcome Dean McCarthy, my baby girl who is also in the right carpet.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: I love you, Ron.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, you ever seen an Aussie that has abs when they sit because that's him.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm very jealous.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: What's happening over here?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: What do you eat?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: Lots of protein chicken rice broccoli Oh, the skin can drop the skin ranch them in too while you're at it.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, really?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: Give it a plug.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: You're already Playing all the right cards, baby.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: She knows what to do.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, honey.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know the rules, this podcast, but if you don't, I'm going to tell you.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now, at any time Dean wants to speak, he has to hit his button.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Dean, can you please hit your button?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: What in like, on a time or about to have?
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't want to answer a question that I ask or Dean, even asked already, I don't even want to hear from Dean, you hit this button.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Can you please hit it?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: You feel like you're on an X-factor show?
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: I've been asked many times to go on X-factor.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a hard now.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: Got it.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: Got it.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think we understand the rules here and now that we understand you don't want to be an X-factor, let's begin.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now I think we should go back to the beginning of time for your career, your baby Jesus life being born, your prayers, your legacy.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me how a young boy like yourself made it in the U.S. How did you get here?
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to start it by saying this.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: My parents moved me to Atlanta when we were by choice or by
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I wasn't part of that.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: I was 12.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I didn't really have a lot of say in the matter at that point, but I definitely felt very uprooted, but I definitely struggled a lot in school in the UK.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: And American schooling, no shade, was a lot easier.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: What was the reason?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: I just it was less strict like it was less of a thing like I feel like American school is like I don't know.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's a different whole beast.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: Do you get like I like hardly listen?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yes You tapped for it and she into hit her button.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes, sorry.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't I didn't follow that.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: No, I kind of love it I kind of love her being a knowledge script But yeah, I grew up in it in London and then Atlanta and That was a huge culture shock.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: I hate it here
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: I want to press the buzzer every time I say go to shock, so but it really was though, it was really like crazy and I remember being like just so out of my element I not only did I have a British accent, but I had a list, you know, and the rest was the rest was flailing she was loose You just got every handicapped like list gay What else?
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: You can't tell me, but yeah, it was just like, what a fucking crazy shift and then music became like my outlet of like what to fill that hole with you know, I feel like you're really just trying to throw some euphemisms in my way.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: Do you?
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like you maybe have a dirty mind.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Clean it up with orbit.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so yeah, music filled the hall and and then I just like fell more in love with it all like and I became a thing that I wanted to pursue I went to the TLC concert in Atlanta, which is my first concert.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and Obsessed this love fan mail You know if there's any gen Z listeners Go to the monitor go and go and listen to fan mail.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: Please do yourself a favor
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then I went to the usher concert, and that just sealed the deal, and then I went from there.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, walk me through life, you become interested in usher, you are a young boy at an age where you have an interest in music.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Walk me through now how you get involved with being like, I want to write.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want to feel seasoned inspired me.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'll tell you.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: Wanted to sing, but I had crippling stage, right?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna say a crippling voice, and I was like, that's true.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I did at that point.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: My voice hadn't, she thought I was amazing.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was not amazing at that point.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: You were just okay.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: I was just okay, but that's the souring reality and the real truth of getting older, what it does to you, because when I was young, I was an as,
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: Good, but I thought I was amazing and then as I got older it kind of shifted We're like now I'm like really good, but I'm constantly like was that good?
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, damn, if I could just tap into some of that unbridled confidence that that fucking 12-year-old had, this, I could, the world would be my oyster.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't be able to do anything.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, unbridled.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: The un-mitted, gated gall that I had is a 12-year-old.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, so I wanted to be a singer, but then I had a lot of stage fright.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I started, loved writing poetry, short stories, things of that nature.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: and then just writing songs became an extension of that and I
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody in my family did end, did music.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not of the NEPO baby variety.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: And that regard.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: Now I didn't grow up in squalor.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna say that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't ask, I'm gonna just, I'm just gonna be honest.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's the stage.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: This is the place to be honest, is it not?
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's true.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: I can live my truth.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, had to really find music in X.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: found an internship.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: I was a bitch at the studio in Atlanta for like two years.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I took food orders.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: I cleaned the toilets.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, whatever they wanted me to do, I would do it.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you're gonna say like I was a bitch at like my job like nil is the saying like you can be good and a bitch I can't be bad and a bitch.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah I was I was mediocre and I wasn't a bitch, but I was the bitch.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: You feel it.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: You felt like I was the studio bitch I did I was just like tell me what to do.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a sponge.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be here I don't give a fuck.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do whatever you say
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do anything.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: And that gave you resilience.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: It gave me resilience.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's, I got to see how the industry operated without being a part of it.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like I got to kind of be in the back of the room and see what was going on here over here conversations about splits and mixing.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: I got to watch the engineer mix these big records.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: I was there when they like recorded love in this club for usher.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: in the room and you said I also want to make love in this club.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: I did.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: I said I've never related more to a song and also a fun part of my lore which is related to that is that I dropped my demo CD in I snuck into Usher's neighborhood and dropped my demo CD in his mailbox when I was 16.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know if you ever
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, I had my number on the back and he never called.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: I really I was like sure he was gonna call I was like I'm gonna get a call on him in and out.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: Let me make sure my phone is not on silent It's not on do not disturb.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I got it.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: I got to have the next few hours free cuz usher is gonna call me Usher baby
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: but it's for the best.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: So from there, tell me how you took a chance on emailing a manager who flew you to work with Cody Simpson and other artists, like, how do we go from life or shit?
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, giving the usher a CD to now working.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: So when I was working at the studio, I learned a lot, right?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then the producer at Studio tried to sign me as an artist.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: And you said, I self-destructed that opportunity.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: I fully, I'm not going to lie to you, I fully fucked that up, but I feel like I knew on subsupps some subconscious level that I wasn't ready to be an artist, that I wasn't ready to be in front of people.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: I was still very much in the closet.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: I was still like there was a lot of shit that I needed to sort out.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that I destructed that opportunity because I knew that I wasn't ready for it.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: But started, kept writing, kept writing, meta-manager, meta-publicer would just send off as many cold emails as possible.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the least, oh my god.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: At that point in time,
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: 50 to 100 a week maybe.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, week you have a timeline.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was about my business standing on it.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: I was a bitch on that.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: I was about my business So yeah firing off emails right to anyone and anyone I was also selling knives door to door by the way Selling knives yeah at the time that was my job.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was a full pyramid scheme
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I'll take a sip to that.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like a sip to that.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna take a sip too because you're, I'm like, I'm like getting sort of like, non flashbacks right now.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: Did you carve these knives?
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: Where this is, no, no, no, no, this is a thing that people do.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it's like Mary Kay, but for dude.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was about to ask, and I don't wanna assume, but dude, do it.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so my friend, Christian, who we were friends in middle school and high school, he was like, you got to come do this job.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's got to come sell you guys.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: He's my guide.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, very sort of, I had a lot of straight bro friends at the time.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: Which shot out to Christian for roping me into this pyramid scheme.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I got hired on the spot because I had all the qualifications and I was just perfect for the role obviously.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: And then I had to sell knives, door to door to my family and friends.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: I had to call them, I had to like call my mom's friend, soccer, and go to her house and cut a penny in half for her to show her these knives, how the knives work.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: So you went door to door selling knives, and did anybody get scared of you in this Ponzi
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: I've never been the threatening like I wasn't I did there's never an advent any confusion There's a little closet of boys telling me a sweet boy honey.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: They know exactly what they're getting some Closeted boy wearing a junco jeans shirt and some coals Capri's isn't the door and you've got out of it by emailing and shooting off his cold Hold messages.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: and i was like determined i was like i'm gonna be in music i'm gonna i'm gonna fire off as many fucking emails as i have to a week till someone listens and gives me an opportunity and then sure enough my care and let me out to work with codey simson i think that was my first thing so yeah we got it just right here you did your research i try girl yeah i'm not i'm noticing why do you think you were given a chance compared to anybody else
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: because you pestered him with so many emails or people heard about you on the streets.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: Did you chat with the guys?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, maybe it was the knives.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, okay.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: No, I literally think it was just luck.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think at that point, I was still honing in on my craft.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't exceptional by any means.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was just...
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: determined and I think that maybe I caught him on a good day, you know, maybe he was like, oh, I hear something in this shitty demo that I think has some potential offline mountains you would happen.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was literally that.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't like a savant from a young age.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I really can't be very great.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a writer.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, okay.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and say she was not writer.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_02]: There's a knife salesman too, yeah, and a knife salesman.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: I can still do that demonstration.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: You're like one of those vacuum cleaner people who come door to door and sells you like the $900 vacuum.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm a disill salesman.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Not the vessel.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly that.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: So you wrote songs for, let me get this correct me from wrong.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: Usher, Martin Garrix, low rider, just nodding your head.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: Justin Bieber, Keith Urban, and more on your first decade of songwriting.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: Correct, so fun.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: Were you for people who don't know actively pitching these songs or you're just like, let me just write out a bunch and see who takes a bite.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of both.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm not like sling in demos to flow right a door to door like I was with the knives.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: But I wasn't, you know, I wasn't like sling in CDs.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I definitely was pitching again.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: I had that tenacity.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh, this person is the ANR for,
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: Darula or whatever.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do that.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do whatever I had to do.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: I was in the studio.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: All day and all night at that point, probably till like, from like noon to like, five in the morning and I would come home to this apartment and I shared with these three dudes, it was just like the messiest grossest it was just I just in case they watched this I love y'all just in case it was a fine apartment it was it was I was like the house mother and it was just there was not a house buddy I was very house bunny house mother
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, yeah, that was, that was kind of how it was at the time, but it was by any means necessary vibes where I was just like Help me get my songs into the hands of the right people
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: We finally have a tap in us.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Thank fucking god.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: What was the song that hit?
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like what was the one song that you wrote that you pitched that actually changed the trajectory of your career?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I have people ask me this and for me it's not, I didn't have a moment where it was like one song that changed everything.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: It was five songs.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: I had a lot of little moments like that where I kind of slowly pivoted.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: But if I had to pick one, probably the first Bieber song that I wrote was like up to my first big moments where people were paying attention and it was called, take you.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: I love you said the first Bieber song, not the second, not the third.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's right because there are three.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: Do you still get a check from that song every three months?
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think I do like, I think I still, yeah.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Just check the pile of checks.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that you don't even know is so fabulous.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: You make a much, much money.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: I saw the post.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: To be fair.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: Um, to be fair, I am like not great at the business side.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm like, I have my people, the handle, my finances, and I do check in and I know my shit, but I try consciously to stay out of it because it stresses me out.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, facts were facts.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: So I like to focus on being creative.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: Back to business.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Unless another comment?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Was that a good answer?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Great answer.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: You're not supposed to do that.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, you were.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: You said Solencio done.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Meanwhile, you're writing a lot of songs for big names, and you have this inkling you want to be an artist, and maybe the confidence is growing.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: But how can you explain to people that you were lending your vocals to songs like Untouchable with cash cash?
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: But weren't credited?
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: How can you explain to people when you're starting out or even when you're a established artist?
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: What gets you the credit?
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: And what doesn't get you the credit on the songs?
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's a great question.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you absolutely killed that.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, um, a lot of it is politics.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of it is earning your stripes.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I still feel like, in many ways, I'm fighting to get opportunities and be seen.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just a tough business.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: And that song specifically, I can't remember what reasoning was given for why I wouldn't be credited on it.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, wanted to get a feature credit on it.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was probably because there were two artists featured on it already.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was Tritonal and Cash Cash.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I don't think it was, it was probably just what they told me at the time.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: They were like, oh, we already have to, you can't be featured, even though it's kind of like, okay, whatever.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's politics, and it's like earning your stripes.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that many of my artist friends, BB-Rexa,
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: name drop.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, but these are people that have dealt with this vehicle like community, you know, BB had to fight to get her name on.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: I forget what this song was.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Mama, I think it was.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they would get it.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she wasn't credited on that originally, and it has nothing to do with any personal, what a monster.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: And monster, right, if she wrote monster.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: But yes, just the way our business works.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's like everything's a battle.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just like,
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you just don't want to go out of bed.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes you really don't.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes you just want to eat orange chicken in bed.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Orange chicken.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: From P.F.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: Changs.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: I was thinking pandex for us.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: That was the one I was trying to give you like a little elevation.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Love it, love it.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: So we're moving on to some other parts of your career as I've done the research as I know the locals.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: You were a feature on the cargo track permanent.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: There are times in the multiple artists are sought for tracks, sometimes multiple demos happen.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: What happened, maybe as far as you know, in the situation?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I will give you the full seated layout.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay, of this situation.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great story, and I love telling the story.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, Kago.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: Kago, I was asked to come to a writing camp to write for Kago, which is something that at that time,
- 20:37[SPEAKER_02]: They would do a lot.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_02]: Record labels would put on writing camps for their artists and they would invite songwriters and producers.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so I was part of a group that was writing for Kigo at the Jim Henson Studio in LA.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: I was, this was pre-COVID.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: Was, you.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: Pre-COVID, disclaimer, sick of the dog.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: So sick, like sniffling,
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: pre-covid, no judgment, okay, I don't turn up to studio sick anymore, sick is a dog, fever, just like, but I was like, I'm going to this session, I'm doing it because I knew if I sang the song, good enough.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: that they wouldn't have no choice to keep me on it or they would have a hard time finding someone else to put on it.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: I knew one of those two things would happen.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, bitch, I'm going.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna sniffle between every fucking take and I'm gonna sing a missing this fucking song.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: So that's what happened and I wrote the song with my friend Johnny Price.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was our first time writing together and I sang the song, So Sick.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was fully blowing my nose between every line.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: but killed it.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: And then they asked me to stay on it.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't say, let's shop it around, they said, we'd like your voice.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was maybe thought of for a second, but I go to his credit like one of my favorite things about him is his whole career.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: He has featured people on his songs that he either wrote the song or just like whatever the best voice was for it.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's not one of the...
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: He's not about the name before the like if something makes sense for the song He's like, let's do that.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's not like, oh, no, I need a big name to feature on it with me He's like you sound amazing on it.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna keep you on it.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: And what's it like performing with Kai go on a given day?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen the videos.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was crazy.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: I had never performed when I went to go on tour with him and we started in like I think Zico Dome or maybe Amsterdam or something and it was like 13,000 people or something like that too many and I too many It's made a count too many to count
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: I had to pop a, um, a beta blocker and before it was popular.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was, I was early on the beta blocker train, um, yeah, and just walk on state.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: I was shooting myself.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: I was sun nervous, but it was fucking amazing.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I, what an experience.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: We got to play Coach, I got to do main stage of Coachella, Red Rocks, and my grandma before she passed away.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Mr.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: So Much.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: Got to come see me do the O2 in London.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: So it was a wild time.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: So cool.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: I feel really grateful for that time.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so thankful for Kaigo and his team for allowing me to have those moments.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I love to hear it.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: You've talked about writing camps for a hot second.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, people will talk about writing camps and what they used to be and what they are now.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Pre-COVID, mind you, pre-COVID, pre-COVID.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: Do a lot of writing camps still happen in the same way or what can you speak about them to people who don't understand what a writing camp is?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay, so back it up pre-COVID pre-COVID writing camps used to be a lot more regular than they are now not a regular they're a regular now Okay, like actually it regularly yeah exactly So they used to be more regular and they used to be more well funded
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: that it was something that labels would put a lot of money into in the past, and you would go, there was this writing camp that they used to do, pre-COVID, at this French castle.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we used to go, we used to go, they used to put us up in this kind of battle.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of about this castle.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I met some of my best friends there.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I met, well, that's not your actual, I'm like completely telling the story around.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Sign line them.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I got close with a lot of my friends there at this castle, do you like that pivot?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it just was like a more of a thing like you, they would fly you to Bali or they would fly you to, you know, friends or whatever to work on a project or your publishers would pay and you would just, and it was such a cool culture that pre covid doesn't happen as often now like a zoom camp now or like
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's just not as they'll do like a Santa Barbara, which is fine.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm great, but I'm not complaining.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, but it's a lot less of like we're going to fly you to St. Lucia.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to hear it.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: Can I ask you a question?
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I always see these lawsuits where someone from Brazil is suing Taylor Swift because her song sounds like they're song from 1992.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: Love this.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: How do you write songs that have never been written before and don't sound like any other song that's ever been written before?
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's... Do you know what I mean?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: How awesome are it?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: There I was in St. Lucie thinking about this 1992 song.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love the bridge to that question.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't fucking know if the answer to that.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's possible.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the more successful a song is, the more likely it is to be sued, just because of the...
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: The like wide sort of what the net like people are someone is gonna hear it somewhere and be like, oh This sounds like something I did in high school.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's like that I never uploaded to the internet But they must have heard it so I'm gonna sue them right and that's very the reality of the world we live in today Which is a tragedy have you written a lyric and then gone this is brilliant and then go go to go And that's actually a lyric from some random how could it not be yeah?
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean definitely yeah I can't know icons.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: Let's try it and also
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: Great ideas, beget, great ideas.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: Because something's been a hit in the past, it could be a hit again.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: There was also the phrase I think so I'm brought it up about Olivia Rigo's album, how a lot of the melodies have already been played out.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that will always hear them again and again, again.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: What do you feel about that?
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I want to stomp you hard.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: You're not stompin' me.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just collecting my thoughts.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: You can have a button.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, do I look scared to you?
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: Never.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, good.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, there's 12 notes in a scale.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, 12.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, there's endless possibilities for how you put those nodes together, but at the end of the day, it's only 12 nodes.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: So the something about melodies that you want to tap into a familiarity.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: You want to tap into a sense.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: There's a certain way that you can build them a melody that feels the right, that feels familiar.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: When I'm creating something, I want to be like, is this something?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: This feels like I've heard it before.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not something.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_02]: If I have that, then I'm like, people are gonna hear that and feel the same way that I do.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's my theory on, that's my aha moment.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's what it is.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's like that's part of our, no one is intentionally wealth.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna say no one, because I'm sure some people are intentionally stealing.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: But no one that I surround myself with and respect is doing that on purpose.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think Olivia was doing that either.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's a true talent.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: When you said 12 notes, all I could hear is they're going to be 99 people.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's right around.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: Very that.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I could think about.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I ever think about.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's in my canon of just like things that I go back to.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: Constantly.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: 99 people in a room, 99 people in a room, 99 people in a room.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: There weren't a lot of people in the room for hitmakers.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: There weren't.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: What was it like being on a TV show about something you already go through in your everyday life of writing camps?
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm kidding.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: You crossed the line.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: It was terrifying.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, if I'm going to be completely- So the theme of the game is, shit my pants or terrifying, I love this skill.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was panstitting territory.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was really scared to do that because I had no control and I'm a, a slot for control.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I like to, I love, why do you think you're over here next to me?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: See, I love the control of the button.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: I know, you do.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: And yet, I'm not scared at all.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: And so you're kidding, you're job.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: You're working.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it was really scary.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, I thought a long time about whether or not I wanted to do it.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: I just wasn't sure how it was going to shake out.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't sure if it was going to be like, old reality show, or if it would be a disservice to my career thus far, and all the stuff that I had done,
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I was assured by Harvey Mason and who's one of the producers.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: Name also is the CEO of the Recording Academy and the crew that it wouldn't be, you know, just a reality show.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: That it wouldn't.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: We would be able to
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: keep our integrity and it would shine a lie on the process of songwriting, which is an important thing.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: People need to know people think they know how it works in the comments, especially.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: I see the Twitter comments.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: I see the fucking Instagram comments.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody thinks they're, you know,
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: fucking an executive.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody thinks they're Simon Cowell.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: Few people actually know how this shit really works and I feel like the more that we can introduce the general public to the inner workings of the music industry, the easier it's going to be for us to advocate for ourselves.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let the gym pop, no.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: Let the gym pop, no.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: You heard it here first.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: So that was my that was my reasoning behind doing the doing the show, but it was it was really scary.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like I heard a movement from the back corner.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like Dean was going to pop in.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: They shook in that, that, that, that, that, that, that he's like ready.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, it's abs are popping all night.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's sitting right.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, just like, just doing some crushes.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Are you a valid girl?
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Are you like a let's be a dance pop woman?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be a slut pop moment.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know I'm a vocal girl.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: I know that you do know that.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know you will research today.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very well aware.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Can you so that anything that feels
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: more challenging, obviously depending on who I'm writing for, like I have to kind of pivot there a little bit.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I like things that are vocally challenging, and I like things with a little soul.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: I like things that aren't as on the grid.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: I like R&B.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: Anything that kind of, I can put in my Europop and my Atlanta roots in the end.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: Love Europop, same.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's where I shine.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: That intersection.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's where I shine in my DJ career.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's a take off yet.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Are you actually DJing?
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: Have I let the public know?
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Not really.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: I was about to say, I've never picked me as a girl.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'd never picked you as that girl.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: Who would like to pick me as a girl?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: Who would like to pick you as that girl?
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like a house, you're a summer girl, dance pop.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: I can't a pop was just in here.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's right, I saw them on the way out.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you're welcome.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: Did you talk to them about your DJ career?
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: a little bit.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: This is my interview now.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: My turn.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: I have a deep appreciation for music.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure I love that.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: I do too.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: I like it doesn't come through shut the fuck up.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right We're done Now you talked about being in the studio countless hours before from like 12 till 5 whatever it be Can you give people some explanation of how expensive the production of a song can actually be from writing it or even the studio production
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, one a great question and I saw money long talk about this in a real like a I don't remember when fully viral or not, but it is so expensive and now I'm being on the artist side of it because I'm an independent artist now the costs are
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: Just a lot.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm lucky to have a studio at my house, so I don't have to incur a cost when I'm recording at home, but the average cost of a studio per hour can be, you know, $400 an hour, maybe.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: Faut cost to your rates, exactly.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: And then you wanna put an engineer on top of that, who sometimes is like 100, 150 an hour.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: To engineer the session.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't need an engineer because I'm self-taught.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and then you put mixing and mastering on top of that mixing can be anywhere from 300 bucks to 2000 bucks
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: Mastering on top of that can be anywhere from 500 to again 2,000 depending on who you're getting to do it Then you put promo and We're not the promostage.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: You got to pay the producers.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: You got to pay their producer fee which can be anywhere from again 500 to
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: as high as 25K, depending on the producer.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Just jump change, yeah?
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: And do you recommend people to cheap out or go all in?
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I depends on what you're working on.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you're working with a major label that has the money and you know that they have the budget for it, then you know, go high.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're working with an independent act like me, who you really believe in, who's really talented and deserving, like me, then if you got to ask for something appropriate based on what they're able to.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: That'd be nice.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of cheap speaking of money so you've just shared it's like what the typical costs can be Yeah, how much can people make let's say you write a bang a song it goes to the billboard number one the billboard hot 100 Mm-hmm.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: How much can you make from a song?
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I love when his accent just makes it pop out.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, I was just kind of, I was listening.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then the question hit me after the fact that I was like, um, okay, so in the 90s, yeah, I'm going to just give you the in the 90s.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: It was you could make a decent living really good living.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: from album tracks, right?
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: You could write a song on an album that went platinum and have your bills paid.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: Bill's bills.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: Bill's bills.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: At bills bills.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to Candy Burris.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: Money, love her.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: that changed with downloads and when the industry started shifting towards streaming especially.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: But now an album track on a highly successful album, even like a massive artist, like a duo or a beaver, it's not going to be
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: I substantiate that much of substantial amount.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be, you know, you could make, I don't know.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: Name a number.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of thing, glad.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: Name a woman.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just pulling this out of my ass.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: Name a woman.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do that after.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but a big song, meaning a song that goes to radio, yeah, which is a dying breed now.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's not many songs that go to radio.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes they'll promise you that your song is going to radio just to get you to a greedy given the song, which happens sometimes.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: But let's say the song goes to radio, let's say it sells well, top of the charts, billboard, whatever.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: You can still make a good amount of money off that song as a songwriter.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: Anything else, Dean?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: I just love money, too.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: I just love money.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: I love money.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Say, it's really hard to have expensive taste.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: You got to fund it.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: You really do.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: I have this disease where I pick up the most expensive thing in the store.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I got this must be really cute.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: And this is really trendy.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: I really like it.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's the most expensive thing here.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's always that.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: Is that a gay thing do you think or is that a taste?
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, because some gays just don't have it like I do, right?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I want to be honest.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I love some of my girls, but they're like, you're so good at hosting.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, because I have the proper utensils on my
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: Dinerware, right?
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have forks, all you don't have forks.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: Your forks are stained.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: You've been to that house party that has smeared off vodka and no mixer.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: Thank God, not recently.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, not in a while.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: No, I have.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, I've been to a couple of those.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: No one throws a good party.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: Memories.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of...
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: So we've had it ding.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: You are a vocal girl, as you said,不用 through and you're releasing your single-tailed memories.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: What was the inspiration for this song?
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Um, well, I write about life.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: I write about men.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: I write about love men.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's all of there's a lot there.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: Um, uh, memories is about my last relationship and sort of grieving it and being thankful for it.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: Is that a tear you're like, yeah, it was.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: It was if you can see GI, if you can post a tear like a really just gorgeous tear, I won't.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, um,
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: Memories was about my X, and I wrote it maybe six months after we broke up, and it was about feeling this thing that I hadn't really felt before with relationships, which was like post-relationship gratitude, and that I try to find like nuance, perspective, to write about that aren't just the average way to write about a song.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: No one likes average.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just like we've heard all we've
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's classic, it feels familiar, but it's also just slightly different perspective like being being bitter sweet and happy that something happened.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then being curious if the other person feels the same way.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: And did they?
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_02]: We had coffee recently.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: memories.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: Memories.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: What keeps you wanting to release your own music?
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: You have so many tracks you write, what makes you still want to vocally produce and release your own self-titled art pieces.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: I am an artist.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like I have always been an artist.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: And even when I was writing for other people, my artistry and my sense of self would.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: dictate where a lot of the inspiration came from.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, I'm writing, I'm like, helping someone else write their vision.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: But there was always a piece of me in it.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I just have gotten more serious about having a life of artistry.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: And just being that girl that is dedicated to evolving and having something to say, and I just always want to be releasing things and doing things and trying things.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Just, I just find that life.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I want my life to be.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a doer, I'm a doer, and every regard.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a pusher, Katie.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I didn't pick you to be a pusher.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: No one pegs me any on me.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be a pusher today.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, next time I'm at your house, I'll just be hitting the tracks in the back.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I love this.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: The pegging that is.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you'll be pegging, okay, you'll be pegging.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is a different podcast now.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to hit the buzzer?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know, actually I don't.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty good with it.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: So even with the credits you have, even with the experience you have, you said it's still difficult to get into a lot of rooms.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: Can you outline that for us?
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I can, it's a tough business, I mean, even as a songwriter, I have had obviously a very long career and it is a lot of times about your last, it's not like the second you have a big thing, it's about what's next.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: you know, so you're only as good as your last relationship, yeah.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just tough.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a lot of relevancy, it's a lot of politics, and shouldn't for the week.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is just the truth of the matter.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like I have proved myself time and time again, and it's always another hill to climb.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, people ask me a lot that are just getting started like, oh, you know, when did you make it?
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I still feel like I'm very much on that hill climbing up that hill every day.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: The hills got a little different steps along the way.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: You got a beer down.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: The hair is longer.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: I've outgrown the twink portion of the hill.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I am now in the daddy portion of the hill, but I'm on the hill nonetheless.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: This was a checkpoint.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: We did, we did cross that threshold.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: Crescials were crossed.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: Boundaries, not, not.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just quick, is it more fun being an independent artist and having a record label direct and control everything?
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I've never had a label, so I wouldn't know, but I've been in business with a lot of labels.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the creative control that I get as an independent artist is gorgeous.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I get to help with my visuals, I get to have a lot of say, but it's a lot of work and time, and I'm doing a lot and paying for a lot.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: So it comes pros and cons, you know?
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to ask what it's like to be a daddy versus a swing.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I really thought that's what I'd like to get paid.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you should ask him.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, ex-card honey.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: What advice do you have for anyone who wants to get involved in some sort of part of the music industry?
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it be writing, production, vocal girls,
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: I would say know what it is that you do uniquely that no one else can do or find your niche of your identity as a creative, whether that's writing a certain type of songs or if you're passionate about vocal production and backgrounds and you want to lean into that, however specific you can find out, build out your identity and then chase that because I think
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: That was a big journey for me, it's like figuring out who I was and I had a lot of heroes that I grew up listening to and I was a summation of my heroes for a long time and then eventually now I'm like my own thing.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know anything from you?
- 42:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, I love that.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, I killed that.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: You did that.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: She'd be like a sunratter or something.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: You just break it down.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, get goose bumps.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's time for our fun segment as podcasts.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now you be thinking yourself sometimes like I do.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: Andy, that's a really dumb question.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's throw in some more with really dumb questions.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite segment because sometimes a question's dumb.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's direct.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, can I sit?
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: She's ready.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: Buckled, okay.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now my first question for you.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: What is the most amount of money you've taken home from being credited on writing a song?
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a classy woman.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: How classy?
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: Next question.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: What is the highest note you can sing?
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: And do you actually know what it is?
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna give it a try.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: And it has changed.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: I will say that.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: Age has changed.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like sometimes my voice is very temperamental.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_02]: I am not one of those people that can go out, smoke, you know, have drinks and like be fine the next day.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like I have to really take care of her.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: She's gentle.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: She's so gentle.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: She's very temperamental.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: She's an emotional girl.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it sounds like she is.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: She's her daddy's girl, you know?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so now I'm not gonna sing you the highest note I can say.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine, that all.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't need it anyway.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I just want to see if you need to prove yourself.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: You're a fashion girl through and through.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: You love the fashion.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: How long's it take to get ready in the morning?
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: And is it against the rules?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we're the same outfit twice.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not against the rules to wear the same outfit twice.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big proponent of getting, I mean, listen, I don't wear the outfits as frequently as some people.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: There's no, I know people that wear outfits wear more frequently than I.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you know, but I don't know what the musicians are like the locals.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_02]: Just people, you know?
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: But can they wear it again?
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: Can they wear it again on the carpet?
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: They can do whatever the fuck they want.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_02]: But for me, I'm like a couple times.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_02]: If it gets a good look somewhere, I'll wear it again maybe one other time or a couple other times.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: But this, I wear all the time.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen it while you have now now I have you have a good person I'd wear it to right so nice got to wear it twice exactly What's something you don't love about the music industry?
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: When the business and the politics gets in the way of great music, I really fucking struggle with that still to this day.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when there's people, when there are things that happen, they get in the way of just having a great song, you know, and there's a lot of shit on the business side of the commerce side of it, that I find just hard to deal with.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be survive my dumb questions.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: I have two dumb questions.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well actually it's time for questions from the peanut gallery and it's Dean's own statement where he doesn't get interrupted at all.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: Dean's floor is worth.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: Amazing.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect timing.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: What's the dumbest thing you've ever spent money on?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: God.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know you have 30 minutes.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know you have 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 30.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: Um, weekly, yeah.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_02]: I will sometimes smoke a joint and go on TikTok shop and order something absolutely stupid.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: And then it shows up three days later and I'm like, what the fuck is this?
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then I'm like, wait, right, I ordered the second.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just do the first part.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: I won't go and take talk shop.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go on, no, I won't go on TikTok shop.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: I am addicted to TikTok shop.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I, there's too much to, there's too much to name.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm kidding.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: I I'm really bad at a lot of athletic things my siblings are all very athletic And I've never been I can't do a I can't play soccer.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_02]: I can't run I'll just hate right.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I used to do all the time.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: Are you a runner?
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: Hell no, absolutely not I could see that waste No, I was about to say I mean you could you you could say yes, and that would not surprise me
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: My final question, what's your go to karaoke song?
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: And can you give us a little teaser of it?
- 47:05[UNKNOWN]: Oh my god.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I actually have a list.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_02]: How about I read you, I list?
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: You liked it.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to be a winner.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: I just did karaoke for my birthday.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I missed you.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: You were out of town for on Ford.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm coming next year.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: You got to come next year.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: She's not in Miami.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: She's here.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: If you're not in Miami, but I'll invite you with enough time.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: You'll have enough lead up.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: So here's my karaoke.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: Give me your rundown.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's the vibe when we playing this?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's a long list.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: you never know no you never know when you're asked to perform and the one time I asked got asked to perform it was for a Nicole Shersinger and did you do it and I almost didn't re-cancel his song and thank god I pivoted hangpong song please no not the kingpong song
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: Here I'll, mm-hmm, okay, but you didn't.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: Why you choked?
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, I just cited last minute to pick like, third I blind, as I usually do.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: Do you feel happy with that?
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was fine.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you feel like you should have stuck to your gowns with an regain maybe?
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, she would have been like, girl.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: You think?
- 48:03[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe she might have been like, girl.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: She might have been like, girl.
- 48:07[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, she came in, she's the one walked her in last minute and I go, and well, I changed my song already before she walked in.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: So thanks for having me.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: I love Nicole.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, okay, ready for my list.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: What's the vibe?
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is this all like any time party?
- 48:20[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is the thing.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: Is there's enough variety in here that you got to read the room?
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: Perfect.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: And no.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: Where your audience is.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: Which is a skill?
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Go to karaoke songs, go.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: I will survive.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: My love is like, wow, simply the best.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: You should let me love you.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: Turn back time.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: He wasn't mad enough.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: All time rock and roll, burn.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: Seven days.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: Thinking of you, sister sledge, lovely day.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: Bills, Bills, Bills, rock DJ, September.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: You remind me emotions, no scrubs that don't impress me much.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: Love, shack.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: You got to be just a friend.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_02]: Bye, bye, bye,
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: The seven things is the one that stood out to me because that's not played a lot.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: Seven days.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: Seven days?
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I say seven things.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's like seven things, Miley Cyrus?
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, seven days but Craig David.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh You got to put the wrapping with no scrubs.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: I can't be doing no scrubs.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: You can't actually expand my horizons.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you But what were we seeing seven things?
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: Why am I the Cyrus ever now?
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that song Seven things I know about you.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: I know it, but I don't know it Now you do I got to feel comfortable with the source material and you feel comfortable with that entire list the entire list back to front back to front front to back
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do a redo of karaoke night done.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: We have to.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: Are you out?
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or my drop?
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you're going to be busy packing.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be DJing, being packed via DJing.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, I'm dead.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: What's your top karaoke song, go to?
- 49:35[SPEAKER_01]: Out of that list, if you had to pick a top three.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: OK, let me see.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: No scrubs.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: Out there for sure.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be a quirky one, but my love is like, well, by my eye.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: I fucking love that song.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: And, um...
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: Think on it.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: that don't impress me much by denial, I like it, it's a bad idea.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_02]: My thing is I can't, I don't want to choose a song that's like too singing for karaoke, because obviously I'm going to sound good, there's no way around that, I can't sound bad, if I tried, but I also don't want to be that guy that's like up there, you know, I want to be giving it just enough but not.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: Auditioning and you know what sucks is when you pick a ballad or someone picks a ballad And the whole room just goes that wasn't the vibe You're good at it, but it wasn't the vibe and you're like well, it was 20 minutes ago, right?
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the thing The room The room is small.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's an ever evolving fluid the room is fluid.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: There could be 99 people but one could really hate you precisely
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Dean, I think we kind of took over your segment, but is there any other question you've got to ask?
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we really did.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_02]: We hijacked your segment for sure.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's time for our final segment then.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now, sometimes in life, I gotta get something off your chest.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's just too much, too much to handle, too much.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta ask you, boys, is there anything you want to get off your chest?
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: Shall I go?
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: You go.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely have one.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: I have something to do with my chest and I think everyone should just play along with this.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that we should stop giving people the opportunity to be negative on our socials.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: Block delay.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: Block delay.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like the second they get on there.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: Goodbye.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: See you later.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: I own it.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you have my login.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you're logging into DMK all these Instagram.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have the face to be here.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I block delay all the time and sometimes you like a big reality starting to be.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: I just turn the comments off.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: Keep your negativity to yourself so you love to block it sounds like yeah How many people on your block list?
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: I've lost count.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't care I don't care so if like what was something that is constituted as a negative thing like I got about here Cut like no, I'm so I interviewed Michael Jackson son Prince recently and so people were commenting about him It's not blocked a light block delay.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't care Protect it.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you love a block.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_00]: Do you I'm your people friend.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: No one is safe.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: I actually want to talk to me if I commented something shady.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: Not you.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I commented no more abs.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, blocks.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you get the block.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_01]: Get the block.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: But they're always going to be there.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: We got the block.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're always going to be there.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: They're always going to be there.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that wouldn't happen.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: God, I love that.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: See, I'm a I'm a fighter and I'll do getting in thought with everyone But I kind of love it.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's like practice for me.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just for the streets or what?
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, no for the streets.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: Just to keep me sharp.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like I see the way this sort of I enjoy I also kind of find it entertaining and I think that like good shade and being able to Just rip someone a new asshole without exerting a lot of energy as a skill
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, ripping while typing on a digital keyboard is really ripping an asshole.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: A hundred percent.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: So I definitely, I'm like, sometimes I really just, depending on if I have the time of day.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: If I have the time of day, then I have the fucking time of day.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_02]: Biter flight.

- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let you marid in that.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: Dean, like, watch.

- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think it.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think it.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, okay.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: So, what about you?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have anything you want to go up your chest?
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote it down.

- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Another moment.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: She had her time in the early 2000s.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: She was part of the mall boom.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_02]: I used to walk past Sikyo Japan in damn near a different hat.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think mustache, a different shirt, whatever I could to get that sandbowl.

- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like we clock each other on the way and it's like as gay people we're either attracted or we're friends with each other and you know.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_01]: And you know by the, by the look, the gay look.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: What's that?
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: Can you demonstrate for me?
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I do think that with the flight attendants and stuff.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes it's just like a, you know, sometimes it's like a...
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's, it's a smile and I'm like, help me help you.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_02]: But how would you like to be seen by them?
- 56:47[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're like, hey girl, how are you doing?
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey girl, just give me a hey girl.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, do you think that's like a risky move for them?
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: If like, they're outed?
- 56:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or just, or just maybe someone is.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: Or I'm outed?
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: Or I'm outed?
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: And they think that they're gay, and they say, hey girl.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_01]: Or just say do you need anything, I'd be like, I don't, okay, happy we checked up on my family, though, and I can assure them.
