- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, and good morning. Thank you so much for tuning
- 0:01Speaker 1: into the Bible Explained podcast. We are going to be
- 0:05Speaker 1: in second Chronicles eleven today talking about the rain of
- 0:09Speaker 1: ray A Boem and how ray Boham just repeats all
- 0:11Speaker 1: of the bad things that Sulomon did. We'll get into
- 0:14Speaker 1: it in just a second. So can you believe that
- 0:23Speaker 1: Advent started yesterday? I am just shocked that we're already
- 0:28Speaker 1: in the Christmas season. My church was all decorated for
- 0:31Speaker 1: Christmas yesterday, and I was like, how I felt like
- 0:35Speaker 1: it was just summer or like two weeks ago. It
- 0:37Speaker 1: feels like summer just flew. And I'm kind of bummed,
- 0:40Speaker 1: honestly that Christmas is already here. I'm not in the
- 0:43Speaker 1: Christmas spirit yet this year, but anyway, it is Advent,
- 0:46Speaker 1: and for those of you who are in the Christmas spirit,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you should definitely check out my Advent devotional four teenage Girls,
- 0:52Speaker 1: especially if you know a teenage girl. I mean, I
- 0:54Speaker 1: guess you can read it yourself if you're not a
- 0:56Speaker 1: teenage girl, but I would suggest giving it to any
- 0:59Speaker 1: teenage girl that you know, because you know, people don't
- 1:03Speaker 1: really understand what Advent is. It is not taught in school,
- 1:07Speaker 1: nobody gets it, and so I talk about what Advent
- 1:10Speaker 1: is and how it relates to Christmas, not to mention
- 1:13Speaker 1: Advent really just is talking about Jesus's second coming. So
- 1:17Speaker 1: all of that is discussed in the Advent devotional four
- 1:20Speaker 1: teenage Girls. You will find that linked in the description
- 1:23Speaker 1: of this episode, but let's go ahead and read it.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Second Chronicles eleven the entire thing and discuss the reign
- 1:29Speaker 1: of Raya Boam. And we're also going to talk about
- 1:31Speaker 1: all of these wives that he ends up marrying and
- 1:34Speaker 1: some laws that he breaks, and how Israel and Judah
- 1:38Speaker 1: just kind of fracture. So a lot to talk about today.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'll be reading as usual from the web. Grab your
- 1:43Speaker 1: cup of coffee or your cup of tea, and let's
- 1:45Speaker 1: jump right in. When Raya Boham had come to Jerusalem,
- 1:50Speaker 1: he assembled the House of Judah and Benjamin one hundred
- 1:52Speaker 1: and eighty thousand chosen men who are warriors to fight
- 1:55Speaker 1: against Israel to bring the kingdom again to Raya Boam.
- 1:59Speaker 1: But Yea always wear came to Shemeah, the Man of God, saying,
- 2:02Speaker 1: speak to Raeboam, the son of Solomon, King of Judah,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying Yahweis
- 2:08Speaker 1: says you shall not go up nor fight against your brothers.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Every man returned to his house, for this thing is
- 2:14Speaker 1: of me. So they listened to Yawi's words and returned
- 2:17Speaker 1: from going against Jereboam. Rayeboam lived in Jerusalem and built
- 2:21Speaker 1: cities for defense. In Judah he built Bethlehem, Edom Toakoa, Bethezur, Soko, Adulam, Gath, Merisha,
- 2:29Speaker 1: zif Adorim, lakeish Azeka, Zorah, Ajalon, and Hebron, which were
- 2:35Speaker 1: fortified cities. In Judah and in Benjamin, he fortified the
- 2:39Speaker 1: strongholds and put captains in them, with stores of food, oil,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and wine. He put shields and spears in every city
- 2:46Speaker 1: and made them exceedingly strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel
- 2:53Speaker 1: stood with him out of all of their territory. For
- 2:56Speaker 1: the Levites left their pasture lands and their possessions and
- 2:59Speaker 1: came to Judah and j Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his
- 3:01Speaker 1: sons cast them off that they should not execute the
- 3:04Speaker 1: priest's office. To Yahweh, He himself appointed priests for the
- 3:07Speaker 1: high places for the male goat and calf idols, which
- 3:10Speaker 1: he had made after them. Out of all the tribes
- 3:13Speaker 1: of Israel, those who set their hearts to seek Hyahweh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice Iahweh,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the God of their fathers. So they strengthened the kingdom
- 3:22Speaker 1: of Judah and made Rayeboam, the son of Solomon strong
- 3:25Speaker 1: for three years, for they walked three years in the
- 3:27Speaker 1: way of David and Solomon. Rayaboam took a wife for himself, Mahalith,
- 3:32Speaker 1: the daughter of Jeremith, the son of David, and of
- 3:34Speaker 1: abih Hail, the daughter of Eliab, the son of Jesse.
- 3:37Speaker 1: She bore him sons Jayush, Shimaria, and Zehem. After her,
- 3:43Speaker 1: he took Maka, the granddaughter of Absalom, and she bore
- 3:45Speaker 1: him Abaijah, a tai Ziza, and Schelmuth. Rayeboam loved Maka,
- 3:50Speaker 1: the granddaughter of Absalom, above all his wives and his concubines,
- 3:54Speaker 1: for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and became
- 3:58Speaker 1: the father of twenty eight sons and sixty daughters. Rayoboam
- 4:02Speaker 1: appointed Abaijah, the son of Maka to be chief the
- 4:05Speaker 1: prince among his brothers, for he intended to make him king.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He dealt wisely and dispersed some of his sons throughout
- 4:11Speaker 1: all the lands of Judah and Benjamin to every fortified city.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He gave them food in abundance, and he sought many
- 4:17Speaker 1: wives for them. So the moral of this chapter is
- 4:22Speaker 1: that old habits die hard, and that the fruit does
- 4:26Speaker 1: not fall far from the tree, and that history always
- 4:30Speaker 1: repeats itself. So in the previous chapter we talked about
- 4:34Speaker 1: how Raye Boham became the king right after Solomon, his
- 4:36Speaker 1: father died, and Raoboam, three days after becoming the king,
- 4:41Speaker 1: starts a civil war which completely fractures Israel. And so
- 4:48Speaker 1: the northern tribes of Israel go with this other guy
- 4:51Speaker 1: named Jeroboam, and then Rayeboam, Solomon's son, gains control of
- 4:56Speaker 1: two tribes down south, which would have been Judah and
- 5:00Speaker 1: and Benjamin. So now Rea Boam goes back home after
- 5:03Speaker 1: that entire mess that he started, and he decides that
- 5:06Speaker 1: he's going to fight against the northern kingdom and against
- 5:09Speaker 1: Jeobom and take all of that land back. Here's what
- 5:13Speaker 1: it says in verse one when Raaboam had come to Jerusalem.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred
- 5:19Speaker 1: and eighty thousand chosen men who are warriors to fight
- 5:22Speaker 1: against Israel to bring the kingdom again to Raya Boam,
- 5:26Speaker 1: so he's ready to go to war with the northern tribes.
- 5:29Speaker 1: But the word of Yahweh came to a man named
- 5:32Speaker 1: Shameya saying, speak to Raa Boam, the son of Solomon,
- 5:36Speaker 1: king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and
- 5:39Speaker 1: Benjamin saying, Yahweh says you shall not go up nor
- 5:43Speaker 1: fight against your brothers. Every man returned to his house,
- 5:46Speaker 1: for this thing is of me. So essentially God's word
- 5:49Speaker 1: came to this prophet named Shameya. And I believe this
- 5:53Speaker 1: is the only time Shameyah is mentioned is right here
- 5:56Speaker 1: and also in First King's chapter twelve, which is just
- 5:59Speaker 1: a pair of story. But Shameha, who is this unknown prophet,
- 6:04Speaker 1: goes to the king and he says, you cannot go
- 6:08Speaker 1: to battle with your brothers because God actually said this
- 6:11Speaker 1: thing is of him and he does not want you
- 6:14Speaker 1: to go out. And actually, for the first time ever,
- 6:17Speaker 1: Israel listened to Yahwei's voice and did not go out
- 6:21Speaker 1: to fight against northern Israel. But notice that God still
- 6:24Speaker 1: considered fractured Israel brothers with each other. God always considered
- 6:30Speaker 1: Israel and Judah, though they had become two separate nations,
- 6:34Speaker 1: one nation of people, his people. But anyway, Raye Boam
- 6:38Speaker 1: and all of the people actually do listen to Yawa's voice,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and they don't go out to battle with northern Israel. Instead,
- 6:45Speaker 1: Rae Boham, it says, goes back home. In verse five.
- 6:48Speaker 1: He lived in Jerusalem, and he built cities for defense
- 6:51Speaker 1: in Judah. So instead of attacking northern Israel, he decides
- 6:55Speaker 1: he's going to make what he has strong so that
- 7:00Speaker 1: Jereboam up north, who is now the king of Israel,
- 7:03Speaker 1: can't come down and try to take more land for himself.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So Jeroboam goes and fortifies all these cities. He fortified Bethlehem, Edam, Tocoa, Bethzor,
- 7:15Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera. And I'm not going to go
- 7:17Speaker 1: back through those names because I don't think I'm pronouncing
- 7:20Speaker 1: them correctly as usual. So he fortified all of these
- 7:23Speaker 1: cities in Judah and Benjamin and maintained a decent control
- 7:28Speaker 1: of those two tribes for his entire life. Instead, it
- 7:31Speaker 1: says that he made them very strong. In verse twelve,
- 7:35Speaker 1: he put shields and spears in every city and made
- 7:38Speaker 1: them exceedingly strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him. So
- 7:43Speaker 1: God is making it very clear at this point that
- 7:46Speaker 1: the line of David is only going to have two
- 7:50Speaker 1: tribes left to them instead of the full twelve tribes
- 7:54Speaker 1: of Israel, because the line of David sinned almost directly
- 7:59Speaker 1: after Day died. You know, Solomon, though he was a
- 8:03Speaker 1: really good king in his own ways, never quite had
- 8:07Speaker 1: a heart for Yahweh and started putting up all of
- 8:10Speaker 1: these altars in the city for these foreign deities. That
- 8:14Speaker 1: was always what Israel was doing wrong, was worshiping other
- 8:17Speaker 1: gods and not having faith fully in Yahweh. They would
- 8:22Speaker 1: go and worship Yahweh, but then they'd go the next
- 8:24Speaker 1: day and worship all of these other foreign idols that
- 8:28Speaker 1: God told them not to worship. Because they're trying to
- 8:31Speaker 1: cover all of their bases. They're saying, you know what,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't think God is powerful enough to help me
- 8:35Speaker 1: through this problem. So I'm going to go, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 1: pray to this God over here who might be able
- 8:41Speaker 1: to bless me with this thing that I really want,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and so I'm going to worship Yahweh and this thing
- 8:47Speaker 1: so that I can cover all of my bases. But
- 8:50Speaker 1: God was so clear from the beginning when his people
- 8:52Speaker 1: were in the wilderness, you shall have no other god
- 8:55Speaker 1: except for Me. That is what he told his people.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Have faith in me fully. That is what it means
- 9:02Speaker 1: to be a Yahweh follower, is to put your faith
- 9:05Speaker 1: fully in Him, not in him and all these other things,
- 9:09Speaker 1: but just in Him. So Israel, of course, was always
- 9:13Speaker 1: falling away, and Solomon did that exact thing. He had
- 9:16Speaker 1: many other gods other than Yahweh. But yet it says
- 9:20Speaker 1: Solomon was very religious. Every single morning he'd go and
- 9:23Speaker 1: he would perform a sacrifice, and in the evening he'd
- 9:26Speaker 1: perform the sacrifice, and he'd perform a special one on
- 9:29Speaker 1: different celebrations and feasts and the Sabbath day. So even
- 9:34Speaker 1: though Solomon was very religious, he still went and worshiped
- 9:38Speaker 1: all of these other gods to appease the hundreds of
- 9:41Speaker 1: wives that he had, and also because his heart was
- 9:46Speaker 1: not fully faithful in Yahweh. And Solomon unfortunately learned way
- 9:51Speaker 1: too late in life and didn't teach Raya Boam to
- 9:56Speaker 1: be a true Yahweh follower, because it doesn't seem like
- 10:00Speaker 1: in this chapter, from the little bit that we know
- 10:02Speaker 1: of Rea Bouam, that he did what should be done,
- 10:07Speaker 1: especially when it came to worship of Yahweh. Instead, it
- 10:10Speaker 1: almost seems like Raya Boam followed all of the bad
- 10:14Speaker 1: things that Solomon did and not any of the good
- 10:17Speaker 1: things that Solomon did. So let's read about this. It
- 10:21Speaker 1: says he put shields in every city and made them
- 10:25Speaker 1: exceedingly strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him Verse thirteen.
- 10:29Speaker 1: The priests and the Levites who were in all of
- 10:31Speaker 1: Israel stood with him out of all their territory. For
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Leevites left their pasture lands and their possessions and
- 10:38Speaker 1: came to Judah and Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his sons
- 10:42Speaker 1: cast them off that they should not execute the priest's
- 10:45Speaker 1: office to Yahweh. So that's actually talked about a little
- 10:48Speaker 1: bit more in First Kings chapter twelve, where Jeroboam, when
- 10:54Speaker 1: he gained control of the northern parts of Israel, actually
- 10:58Speaker 1: set up a state real lace religion because he was
- 11:01Speaker 1: scared of the Israelites traveling down south to Judah to
- 11:06Speaker 1: the temple to worship Yahweh. Let's read about this in
- 11:10Speaker 1: One Kings twelve twenty five through thirty three. It says,
- 11:15Speaker 1: then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephriem
- 11:19Speaker 1: and lived in it. And he went out of there
- 11:21Speaker 1: and built Penuel. Jeroboam said in his heart, now the
- 11:25Speaker 1: kingdom will return to David's house. If this people goes
- 11:28Speaker 1: up to offer sacrifices in Yahwei's house at Jerusalem, then
- 11:32Speaker 1: the heart of his people will turn again to their lord,
- 11:34Speaker 1: even Rayeboam, the king of Judah, and they will kill
- 11:37Speaker 1: me and return to Raeboam, king of Judah. So the
- 11:40Speaker 1: king took counsel and made two calves of gold, and
- 11:44Speaker 1: he said to them, it is too much for you
- 11:46Speaker 1: to go up to Jerusalem. Look and behold your God's Israel,
- 11:50Speaker 1: which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
- 11:52Speaker 1: He set one in Bethel, and the other he put
- 11:55Speaker 1: in Dan. This thing became a sin, for the people
- 11:58Speaker 1: went even as far as Dan to worship before the one. There.
- 12:02Speaker 1: He made houses of high places and made priests from
- 12:05Speaker 1: among all the people who were not the sons of Levi.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
- 12:12Speaker 1: fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is
- 12:14Speaker 1: in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He
- 12:16Speaker 1: did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he
- 12:19Speaker 1: had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of
- 12:21Speaker 1: the high places that he had made. He went up
- 12:24Speaker 1: to the altar which he had made in Bethel on
- 12:26Speaker 1: the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even the month
- 12:29Speaker 1: which he had devised of his own heart, and he
- 12:31Speaker 1: ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went
- 12:33Speaker 1: up to the altar to burn incense. So, yeah, let's
- 12:37Speaker 1: talk about the state religion that Jeroboam up north put
- 12:41Speaker 1: in place because he was terrified. He did not want
- 12:43Speaker 1: the people to go to Jerusalem down in Judah to
- 12:47Speaker 1: sacrifice Jiahweh there, because he feared and believed that that
- 12:52Speaker 1: was going to give the power back to Judah and
- 12:56Speaker 1: Raya Boam if all the people were constantly traveling to
- 13:00Speaker 1: Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh. So he comes up with
- 13:03Speaker 1: this clever plan. He's like, you know what I'm gonna do.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I'm going to just put little places of worship that
- 13:10Speaker 1: the people can go to very easily. And so he
- 13:13Speaker 1: made these golden calves, and he said, Israel, these golden
- 13:17Speaker 1: calves are now places of worship. You can go to
- 13:21Speaker 1: these places now to worship Yahweh if you want. This
- 13:24Speaker 1: is God who brought you out of Egypt, to worship
- 13:26Speaker 1: him right here in Bethel and in Dan. You don't
- 13:30Speaker 1: have to go down to Jerusalem any longer to sacrifice
- 13:33Speaker 1: to Yahweh. And so it ended up happening is he
- 13:36Speaker 1: places these two calves in Dan and Bethel, and the
- 13:40Speaker 1: people started worshiping these calves. Shockingly enough, it was not
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yahweh worship. It was calf Idol worship. Because it says
- 13:50Speaker 1: that the people who are very devout in this religion,
- 13:53Speaker 1: they were actually going to both calves, like the one
- 13:56Speaker 1: way over in Dan, which was I think at the
- 14:00Speaker 1: northernmost tippy top of Israel, if I'm remembering correctly, they
- 14:03Speaker 1: travel all the way up there to sacrifice to that
- 14:07Speaker 1: idol and to the one down in Bethel. So they
- 14:10Speaker 1: became two separate entities that the Israelites were worshiping. And
- 14:15Speaker 1: Jeroboam did that out of fear. And second Chronicles eleven
- 14:18Speaker 1: going back to our chapter four today talks about the
- 14:21Speaker 1: same thing. The Levites left their pasture lands and their
- 14:25Speaker 1: possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem for Jeroboam and
- 14:28Speaker 1: his sons cast them off that they should not execute
- 14:31Speaker 1: the priest's office to Yahweh. He himself appointed priest for
- 14:34Speaker 1: the high places for the male goat and calf idols
- 14:37Speaker 1: which he had made, so that right there. Bever says
- 14:40Speaker 1: that it wasn't just calf idols that Jeroboam had made.
- 14:43Speaker 1: He also made a male goat idol and high places
- 14:49Speaker 1: as well, So probably these high places were for foreign
- 14:54Speaker 1: gods like Bail and Moloch and Chemish and Astrara. He
- 14:58Speaker 1: actually put a lot of idol where she in Israel,
- 15:01Speaker 1: not just these two state sanctioned religions, but all these
- 15:05Speaker 1: other ones also. That is what Jeroboam did. And depending
- 15:09Speaker 1: on the version that you read, I believe the n
- 15:12Speaker 1: KJV says that Jeroboam put these idols up for demons.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I'm kind of sad that the web does not mention
- 15:21Speaker 1: the word demons here, but that is essentially what idle
- 15:25Speaker 1: worship is is sacrificing to demons. And because of this,
- 15:30Speaker 1: the devout people of Israel that wanted to worship Yahweh
- 15:33Speaker 1: the right way, they left and went down south to Judah.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So actually, Jeroboam caused a huge problem in northern Israel.
- 15:43Speaker 1: He was trying to avoid a problem, but he ended
- 15:44Speaker 1: up causing one because all the devout people left as
- 15:48Speaker 1: well as the Levites, and they went down south and
- 15:52Speaker 1: strengthened verse seventeen the kingdom of Judah and made Rayeboam
- 15:57Speaker 1: the son of Solomon strong for three years, for they
- 16:00Speaker 1: walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
- 16:05Speaker 1: So after all of this happens, Judah becomes very strong
- 16:10Speaker 1: only for three years. But that is a big hit
- 16:14Speaker 1: on northern Israel because now very few devout people are left.
- 16:19Speaker 1: That causes a lot of problems. We're going to see
- 16:22Speaker 1: that actually as we move forward in Israel's history. But
- 16:27Speaker 1: it says in verse seventeen that the Levites and the
- 16:31Speaker 1: devout people strengthened the Kingdom of Judah and made ray
- 16:34Speaker 1: Bohm the son of Solomon strong for three years and
- 16:37Speaker 1: only three years, for they walked three years in the
- 16:40Speaker 1: way of David and Solomon. So yeah, it only took
- 16:44Speaker 1: Judah three years to fall away from Yahweh because that
- 16:51Speaker 1: is just human nature, right. We are always always falling
- 16:55Speaker 1: away from Yahweh. And here's kind of the start of it,
- 16:59Speaker 1: because you know, Raa Boham, he's the king, and the
- 17:02Speaker 1: king determines a lot of what Judah is going to do.
- 17:08Speaker 1: You know, the king is kind of the example that
- 17:10Speaker 1: everybody is looking to. So this is one of the
- 17:13Speaker 1: reasons Judah fell away from Yahweh so quickly is because
- 17:18Speaker 1: of Raa Boham. Here's what Raya Boham does in verse eighteen.
- 17:21Speaker 1: He took a wife for himself, Mahaleth, the daughter of Jeremith,
- 17:25Speaker 1: the son of David, and of abi Hail, the daughter
- 17:28Speaker 1: of Eliab, the son of Jesse, So she was related
- 17:31Speaker 1: to David. She was actually one of David's granddaughters, as
- 17:36Speaker 1: Raya Boham was actually I so Rea Boham and this
- 17:38Speaker 1: woman Mahaleth would have been cousins, but very distant cousins
- 17:42Speaker 1: because she was from the line of one of David's
- 17:45Speaker 1: other wives, so they weren't Reya Boham and her were
- 17:47Speaker 1: not like closely related, but they were I guess cousins.
- 17:51Speaker 1: And it says that she bore him sons jay USh, Shamaria,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and Zahem. Now it kind of sounds to me this
- 18:00Speaker 1: girl Mahalith was Ree Boham's first wife, and that these
- 18:04Speaker 1: three sons that she had would have been the firstborn son,
- 18:07Speaker 1: specifically Jayush. But after her in verse twenty, he took
- 18:13Speaker 1: this woman named Maka, the granddaughter of Absalom, and she
- 18:17Speaker 1: bore him a Baija, a tie Ziza, and Sheelamuth. So
- 18:23Speaker 1: this girl Maka was also a distant cousin of Rae Boham.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I guess they would have been cousins. She was the
- 18:29Speaker 1: granddaughter of Apsalom. If you remember Absalom, he was the
- 18:32Speaker 1: nasty guy that tried to take the thrown away from
- 18:36Speaker 1: King David. He was one of David's sons and tried
- 18:40Speaker 1: to kill King David. Actually, so Maka was related to Absalom,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and it says that Rae Boham loved Maka better than
- 18:50Speaker 1: all of his other wives and concubines, for he took
- 18:53Speaker 1: eighteen wives and sixty concubines and became the father of
- 18:57Speaker 1: twenty eight sons and sixty daughters. Every time we see
- 19:01Speaker 1: a man in the Old Testament having multiple wives or concubines.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Something really bad ends up happening every single time, pretty
- 19:11Speaker 1: much without fail. There's like drama in that man's life.
- 19:15Speaker 1: The women are neglected, there's abuse taking place, or the
- 19:20Speaker 1: person has their heart completely turned away from God, or
- 19:25Speaker 1: one of their sons from a different wife tries to
- 19:28Speaker 1: kill the father. We see problems happening all the time
- 19:33Speaker 1: in these kinds of polygamous relationships, every single time. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: right here Raya Boam again is causing problems because it
- 19:42Speaker 1: says right here that Raya Boam, who loved Maka more
- 19:47Speaker 1: than any of his other wives so had clear favoritism,
- 19:51Speaker 1: appointed A Baijah, the son of Maka, to be chief
- 19:55Speaker 1: the prince among his brothers, for he intended to make
- 19:58Speaker 1: him king. Abijah was not the firstborn son. It says
- 20:04Speaker 1: that Jayush, the son of Mahalith, was the firstborn son,
- 20:09Speaker 1: so Abaijah should not have been appointed by Raya Boham
- 20:13Speaker 1: to be the next in line for the throne. That
- 20:16Speaker 1: was unfair to his actual firstborn son, and there is
- 20:20Speaker 1: a law about this in Deuteronomy twenty one. It says
- 20:23Speaker 1: in Deuteronomy twenty one, fifteen through seventeen, if a man
- 20:27Speaker 1: has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and they have borne him children, both the beloved and
- 20:33Speaker 1: the hated. And if the firstborn son is hers who
- 20:36Speaker 1: was hated, then it shall be in the day that
- 20:38Speaker 1: he causes his sons to inherit that which he has,
- 20:41Speaker 1: that he may not give the son of the beloved
- 20:44Speaker 1: the rights of the first born before the son of
- 20:47Speaker 1: the hated, who is the firstborn. But he shall acknowledge
- 20:50Speaker 1: the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him
- 20:52Speaker 1: a double portion of all that he has, for he
- 20:55Speaker 1: is the beginning of his strength. The right of the
- 20:58Speaker 1: firstborn is his so Jereboem is breaking several Old Testament
- 21:03Speaker 1: laws with what he is doing. First and foremost, he
- 21:06Speaker 1: has multiple wives. Multiple is more than one. There is
- 21:10Speaker 1: a law in Deuteronomy seventeen four Kings that specifically says
- 21:14Speaker 1: a king shall not have multiple wives. In other words,
- 21:18Speaker 1: he shall not have more than one wife. That's the
- 21:22Speaker 1: first thing Raya Boham is doing wrong. The second thing
- 21:24Speaker 1: he's doing wrong is he is showing favoritism to his wives,
- 21:29Speaker 1: specifically in the case of giving the firstborn rights to
- 21:33Speaker 1: a son that is not the firstborn, just because he
- 21:37Speaker 1: likes that wife who had that child more than the
- 21:42Speaker 1: wife of the firstborn child. It is unfair and it
- 21:46Speaker 1: is unjust. It's like Raya Boham is repeating everything that
- 21:49Speaker 1: Solomon did, but only the bad things that Solomon did.
- 21:53Speaker 1: You know, Solomon, in his own way was a good
- 21:56Speaker 1: king for Israel, but he struggled, he had his heart
- 22:01Speaker 1: go astray because of the amount of women that he married.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And Rea Boham is doing the exact same thing, and
- 22:07Speaker 1: he might be like, well, it says here that Reya
- 22:09Speaker 1: Bohm only married eighteen wives, not seven hundred. That's true.
- 22:15Speaker 1: You know, Solomon did marry seven hundred women. It's very possible.
- 22:18Speaker 1: The reason Rea Boham didn't marry seven hundred people is
- 22:21Speaker 1: because he physically couldn't, like he could not support them.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Because now that Israel's been fractured, you know, Judah is
- 22:27Speaker 1: not nearly as rich, so Rea Bohm wouldn't have been
- 22:30Speaker 1: as rich, wouldn't have been able to afford to keep
- 22:34Speaker 1: that many women and children in his household, because it
- 22:37Speaker 1: does say he ended up having let's see, twenty eight
- 22:42Speaker 1: sons and sixty daughters between all of these women, So
- 22:46Speaker 1: that's a lot of people in your household to feed
- 22:49Speaker 1: and support. So Rea Boham probably couldn't support more than that.
- 22:53Speaker 1: That's not to say he didn't want to. Because the
- 22:56Speaker 1: more wives you had in this society, the more prestigious
- 23:01Speaker 1: you were, Like wives were a status symbol. It was
- 23:04Speaker 1: like something you owned, like a I don't know, Gucci bag,
- 23:08Speaker 1: I guess. But either way, Raya Bohm is not doing
- 23:11Speaker 1: what he should be doing. And this is the start
- 23:14Speaker 1: of it right here, because if you're breaking one of
- 23:17Speaker 1: God's laws, you're breaking them all. That is what Paul said.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And if you move to the very next chapter, here's
- 23:23Speaker 1: what the first line says. When the kingdom of ree
- 23:28Speaker 1: Bohm was established and he was strong, he abandoned Yahweh's
- 23:32Speaker 1: law and all Israel with him. You guys know how
- 23:35Speaker 1: much I had despise, like actually despise polygamy. It isn't
- 23:39Speaker 1: one of my topics that just boils my blood when
- 23:43Speaker 1: we start to talk about it. Apparently something like twenty
- 23:47Speaker 1: percent of millennials and Zoomers think that polygamist relationships are
- 23:52Speaker 1: just totally fine, like morally okay. To have to me,
- 23:56Speaker 1: that is abusive towards women, and it is so against scripture,
- 24:02Speaker 1: and you might be like, well, Jenna doesn't specifically say
- 24:05Speaker 1: anywhere in the Bible that a polygamous relationship is wrong. Well, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: that's true, but there is plenty of verses you can
- 24:12Speaker 1: find that discourage polygamy greatly. You could say the same
- 24:17Speaker 1: exact thing about slavery. Scripture does not specifically say slavery
- 24:21Speaker 1: is wrong and you should not do it. But we know,
- 24:24Speaker 1: we know that slavery is wrong, and Christians knew that
- 24:28Speaker 1: slavery was wrong, which is why Christians were actually the
- 24:31Speaker 1: people who abolished slavery. So just because something is not
- 24:34Speaker 1: directly laid out in scripture this is wrong does not
- 24:37Speaker 1: mean that we can't deduce that something is in fact wrong.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But anyway, this was Second Chronicles eleven, and I hope
- 24:45Speaker 1: you guys enjoy talking about this with me. We're gonna
- 24:48Speaker 1: be in Second Chronicles twelve and talking about the fall
- 24:52Speaker 1: of Ray Boam on Wednesday, so I hope to see
- 24:55Speaker 1: you guys then. Now, once again, don't forget that I
- 24:58Speaker 1: will be taking a short break from Thursday to next Wednesday,
- 25:03Speaker 1: so please keep that in mind, but there will be
- 25:05Speaker 1: an episode tomorrow. I will see all of you guys
- 25:08Speaker 1: six am, or whenever you choose to wake up for
- 25:10Speaker 1: an episode from one Timothy. Until then, happy listening and
- 25:13Speaker 1: God bless
