- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Favorite podcast. This is the
- 0:14Speaker 1: podcast from the Action Network. I am Chad Noman, joined
- 0:19Speaker 1: as I am every week by my buddy, my tobacco
- 0:24Speaker 1: spitting class act. That's right, someone's gonna butch this place
- 0:29Speaker 1: up a little bit. So we got a huge show
- 0:32Speaker 1: today because later on in the show we had on
- 0:35Speaker 1: the show, we're gonna talk about the NBA Finals, which
- 0:37Speaker 1: are two games in long way to go. It's been
- 0:40Speaker 1: infinitely fascinating for everybody. Some of us made a little
- 0:43Speaker 1: bit of a wager on the second half of that
- 0:45Speaker 1: game the other night, ponied up to the bar, made
- 0:48Speaker 1: a little cash. Ponied up to the bar. Do you
- 0:52Speaker 1: mean you bellied up to the bar. It's not, it's
- 0:57Speaker 1: not it's bellied up to the bar. That other voice
- 0:59Speaker 1: is Darren Ravelle. He's going to talk to us first
- 1:01Speaker 1: because he had what might be described as one of
- 1:03Speaker 1: the biggest days in Action Network history yesterday, much bigger
- 1:07Speaker 1: than anything black Jack has ever done, a worst ever.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Darren Revel blew up Twitter yesterday, caused a journalistic fighter storm,
- 1:20Speaker 1: caused a controversy, and along the way was the first
- 1:23Speaker 1: person to get Jeopardy James on the phone to talk
- 1:27Speaker 1: about his loss. Darren, take us to the whole thing, man,
- 1:32Speaker 1: tell us exactly what happened, break it down, take us
- 1:34Speaker 1: behind the scenes. So Sunday night, there was the leak
- 1:38Speaker 1: that James Holdshower was gonna lose on Monday. Where it
- 1:43Speaker 1: was the leak? Uh, It was on Reddit, and then
- 1:48Speaker 1: the New York Posts got to it and it actually
- 1:51Speaker 1: came to me someone like two or three people sent
- 1:54Speaker 1: it to me, and then it was all out. There
- 1:56Speaker 1: was like five or six different um media publications that
- 2:03Speaker 1: had that out, and I said, well, I don't really
- 2:06Speaker 1: want to put this out, but it should be. This
- 2:10Speaker 1: is a news story. He's won thirty two straight. So
- 2:14Speaker 1: when the first one, five or six news publications put
- 2:19Speaker 1: it out, how did they frame it and what about
- 2:22Speaker 1: it made you think you don't want to put it out?
- 2:24Speaker 1: The New York Post didn't have spoiler. That was the
- 2:27Speaker 1: biggest one. It says it appears like he lost in
- 2:31Speaker 1: a video that has been leaked virally. You want to
- 2:37Speaker 1: know the one reason I didn't want to put it
- 2:39Speaker 1: out because Jeopardy is evergreen and there was nothing tying
- 2:43Speaker 1: it to that date, and I didn't want to be
- 2:45Speaker 1: responsible if that was his loss, that comes in and
- 2:49Speaker 1: I knew it was taped, so I had no way
- 2:52Speaker 1: of knowing what that actual date was, and it was
- 2:57Speaker 1: possible that it really was his loss. It appeared like
- 2:59Speaker 1: it that he lost after Final Jeopardy, but I had
- 3:03Speaker 1: no way of knowing that. And we found out that
- 3:06Speaker 1: that was taped on March twelve, So you know, I
- 3:10Speaker 1: just I just felt no. But having known that, we
- 3:13Speaker 1: know that, uh, the it is syndicated and they air
- 3:17Speaker 1: at different times. Uh, you know, we knew that in Montgomery,
- 3:22Speaker 1: Alabama it airs at and once it airs, someone in Montgomery,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Alabama can say something. So I think we were pretty clear. Um,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and I texted you, and we were pretty clear that
- 3:33Speaker 1: it was counted as a news story. And once it
- 3:36Speaker 1: ran and we knew he lost, it was fair game. Okay,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you. You call it Tony heat
- 3:44Speaker 1: on Twitter for this. I don't really understand why, Um,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but I'll play devil's advocate and be the voice of
- 3:50Speaker 1: the people who hate you reluctantly. Um, did you feel
- 3:54Speaker 1: it all thought like a dick when you when you
- 3:55Speaker 1: did this, Because people really got upset, I mean they
- 3:59Speaker 1: were heated with you. I think people were upset because
- 4:03Speaker 1: they found out he lost, maybe through me. I don't
- 4:06Speaker 1: think spoiler would have helped, because spoiler alone indicate indicates
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's done. So even spoiler stops reading at the word spoiler, like,
- 4:18Speaker 1: can we stop pretending that? I don't actually stop. Of course,
- 4:20Speaker 1: if I see spoilers in a story, I immediately scrolled
- 4:24Speaker 1: by it. Did you feel at all like this is
- 4:26Speaker 1: the outrage is ridiculous because it's over a goddamn Jeopardy show. Well,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I don't want to, I don't I don't want to judge.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think obviously the reason the outrage is ridiculous is
- 4:37Speaker 1: because Jeopardy authorized James obviously to talk. I said, I'm
- 4:42Speaker 1: going to wait until it goes, until we're actually it
- 4:46Speaker 1: has been determined. You don't think Jeopardy has a non
- 4:51Speaker 1: disclosure with James that he can't talk about his loss
- 4:55Speaker 1: until they're okay with it. So that's the crazy thing.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I mean that Jeopardy was k with it obviously, and
- 5:02Speaker 1: you know, so doesn't all fall on me. James was
- 5:05Speaker 1: okay with it. In fact, James told me later and
- 5:08Speaker 1: I don't really have a problems sharing this that he
- 5:11Speaker 1: he thought it was crazy because the night before he
- 5:14Speaker 1: felt everyone found out about it, and now Jeopardy is
- 5:18Speaker 1: looking into who and they think they know who the
- 5:21Speaker 1: leaker is. So hold on, wow, you are you are
- 5:24Speaker 1: breaking news on the podcast right now. Jeopardy feels they
- 5:28Speaker 1: know who leaked the story. On Sunday night that he
- 5:33Speaker 1: lost started this whole attempt correct who leaked the video.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I don't do you know who Deep Throat is, but
- 5:40Speaker 1: I do think I feel like it's fascinating that that
- 5:43Speaker 1: happened on March twelve. He began his run in April four,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and to think, I gotta say one more thing then,
- 5:51Speaker 1: because when I think about March twelve, I'm thinking, Okay,
- 5:55Speaker 1: if Jeopardy really cared, they would make this alive property
- 6:00Speaker 1: or or they would tell the syndicates. Listen, I know
- 6:04Speaker 1: there's some CBS and some maybe c in some NBC.
- 6:07Speaker 1: We have to all get together here, and they never did.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So you know, you can't you can't say, uh, you
- 6:15Speaker 1: have a problem with the system. If the if the
- 6:17Speaker 1: people who are providing the system the show don't care themselves,
- 6:21Speaker 1: all right, So I agree with you on that you
- 6:26Speaker 1: find out that he loses, you're able to confirm it.
- 6:31Speaker 1: What do you do next? I then went to go
- 6:34Speaker 1: get him, and we did not get him on the phone.
- 6:38Speaker 1: We got him by email because he said he was
- 6:41Speaker 1: really busy. I said, listen, I needed to return these
- 6:44Speaker 1: questions like as soon as possible. Um, And he right
- 6:49Speaker 1: away did and I had a couple more questions. UM.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I feel like the one thing that I had to
- 6:55Speaker 1: do was I had to find out about the ending
- 7:00Speaker 1: because we saw the ending, what was what was leaked?
- 7:03Speaker 1: And it was just very confusing, and from a self
- 7:07Speaker 1: serving standpoint, it gave our story more life because after
- 7:11Speaker 1: everyone watched it, I feel like they would have been
- 7:13Speaker 1: equally confused about what went down and what went down?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Was he only uh bid in Final Jeopardy? Like was
- 7:23Speaker 1: it like six bucks of his twenty three thousand, eight
- 7:26Speaker 1: hundred and people would be like, what is he doing?
- 7:30Speaker 1: Is he tired? You know they shoot five of these
- 7:34Speaker 1: a day? Is he tired? Did he want to just
- 7:37Speaker 1: give up? You know? Did take a dive? Did he
- 7:40Speaker 1: have a brain cramp? What happened? And then he explained
- 7:44Speaker 1: it in a way that me and Evan Abrams, one
- 7:47Speaker 1: of our great numbers guys, we went over it to
- 7:51Speaker 1: see if what he was explaining made sense, and it did,
- 7:55Speaker 1: it made sense. He said that he wanted to make
- 7:59Speaker 1: sure that he was a dollar at least a dollar
- 8:02Speaker 1: larger than the third place guy and give himself a chance.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He knew that the emma of the person in first
- 8:11Speaker 1: was going to max out because he would think that
- 8:14Speaker 1: he would max out, and he was playing the game
- 8:17Speaker 1: that if she maxed out and missed, he would have won.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And um, she got it right. So it was moot.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But it was really interesting the way he and how
- 8:29Speaker 1: he figured that out in who knows how long of
- 8:32Speaker 1: real time, but how he figured that out and she
- 8:35Speaker 1: did too, because she she beat him by a dollar
- 8:38Speaker 1: or something like that, So that that was that was
- 8:41Speaker 1: the most fascinating. She would have beaten him and by
- 8:43Speaker 1: a dollar if she she actually would have beaten him
- 8:45Speaker 1: by a dollar if she missed. If the question either way,
- 8:48Speaker 1: he was gonna lose. Uh. That's what was most fascinating
- 8:52Speaker 1: to me, is through this whole process. Look, the reason
- 8:54Speaker 1: why we're interested in the story is because he's a
- 8:56Speaker 1: sports better and the way he was able to apply
- 8:59Speaker 1: those it's betting skills and the math and those sports
- 9:02Speaker 1: betting skills you did this podcast with him, you know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: about a month or so ago. That was fascinating because
- 9:07Speaker 1: we grilled him with a lot of questions and he
- 9:09Speaker 1: was able to do the math so quickly in real time.
- 9:13Speaker 1: It's the dollar that screws me up. Like the fact
- 9:15Speaker 1: that he could figure out to the dollar how he
- 9:18Speaker 1: would win with like everybody's sort of combination and premutations.
- 9:22Speaker 1: That's what's fascinating. Crazy, it's crazy. And then so we
- 9:25Speaker 1: asked him about is he going to get into sports
- 9:27Speaker 1: because Billy Beans said, we need this guy in baseball,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and he said, Billy Beans his idol. But he's gonna
- 9:31Speaker 1: go back to betting. He knows all the book bakers
- 9:34Speaker 1: know him, but he assumes they'll, you know, take his bet.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We have we really haven't understood how successful of a
- 9:41Speaker 1: gambler he is. Um, we don't. We don't know that, um,
- 9:45Speaker 1: but we know it's his job. Um. And now he's
- 9:49Speaker 1: got Oh. And then the other thing I wanted to
- 9:51Speaker 1: do was I wanted to figure out what the tax
- 9:52Speaker 1: situation was because he lives in Nevada, but the game
- 9:56Speaker 1: shows in California, so that's the most ownerous state in
- 10:01Speaker 1: terms of taxes. So he's losing, he's he's he's losing
- 10:05Speaker 1: about half his money. It's ridiculous. Goddamn government. Seriously, I
- 10:10Speaker 1: hate the government. Government. Hey, um, the other question I
- 10:13Speaker 1: half of you is all right? So we talked about this.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Jeopardy plays this all wrong like they are playing a
- 10:20Speaker 1: nineteen seventies game in a two thousand twenty world. Because
- 10:25Speaker 1: why are they not trying to coordinate on a campaign
- 10:29Speaker 1: when something like this gets rolling? Why do they give
- 10:32Speaker 1: the show two weeks off and less? Sort of this
- 10:34Speaker 1: was really weird, but all of that, Like from a
- 10:38Speaker 1: marketing perspective, Black Jet, you know, you're kind of a marketer,
- 10:41Speaker 1: you know, you've got a cowboy hat listening, Like, yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: why would they do done? I mean right, First of all,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you're right when the guy started to go on a
- 10:49Speaker 1: roll and it was apparent that he was really good,
- 10:51Speaker 1: change the rules. They should have gone live with this stuff,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Like they should have had this be live Jeopardy people.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I mean I don't watch Jeopardy, but I would have
- 10:59Speaker 1: tuned in if it was live. Yes, like the fact
- 11:01Speaker 1: that it's taped, take something out of it. And then
- 11:04Speaker 1: you're right that the two weeks for the teacher's term.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Just move the damn teachers tournament? Who cares? That's so
- 11:10Speaker 1: interesting you say that I would have watched this if
- 11:13Speaker 1: it was live for sure. The fact that it was
- 11:17Speaker 1: lost all appeal to me. I want to see him
- 11:19Speaker 1: do it in real time, do you know? Do you know?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Do you know why they didn't do that? Because they
- 11:23Speaker 1: just anyone who works on Jeopardy is not They're not
- 11:26Speaker 1: thinking about that. That's why they work on Jeopardy. You know.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I'm not taking a shot at them. I'm just saying
- 11:31Speaker 1: they're not a sound like I'm taking a shot at them. Um.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I just I just think that they're they're used to
- 11:37Speaker 1: it and they're on autopilot. But they they definitely should
- 11:40Speaker 1: have done something now. No offense to merv Griffin. Productive Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I think it's probably like, look, they make so much
- 11:47Speaker 1: money from this thing, like why change it? But you
- 11:51Speaker 1: change it because you got lightning in a bottle and
- 11:53Speaker 1: you gotta take advantage of that and you gotta get
- 11:55Speaker 1: him and Ken Jennings head to head like that needs
- 11:57Speaker 1: to happen tomorrow. Do you know what I want to see?
- 11:59Speaker 1: I want to see the the contract that the audience
- 12:02Speaker 1: had to sign like what they Isn't that amazing? What
- 12:05Speaker 1: do they threaten you with? Interesting? And I guess they
- 12:11Speaker 1: could see you hanging? What do they threaten you with?
- 12:15Speaker 1: I mean, it's got to be like what what could
- 12:17Speaker 1: they like? But let's be honest. There if someone in
- 12:20Speaker 1: that audience had contacted you and said, I want to
- 12:23Speaker 1: be anonymous. But here's what happens. I mean, how are
- 12:27Speaker 1: they finding out? How do they finding out the person suit? Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I don't know, but the fact that one of them
- 12:33Speaker 1: leaked it, that's that's remarkable. Seeing now as a journalist,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I wouldn't I wouldn't be able to take that. That's
- 12:40Speaker 1: the that's the problem. But my point is, non I
- 12:43Speaker 1: signed a document when I went to when I brought
- 12:46Speaker 1: my wife to see Oprah, which was one of her
- 12:49Speaker 1: lifelong dreams. What was it talked about sharing details of
- 12:54Speaker 1: the show that didn't air? All right? Are we telling you? Well? Listen,
- 13:00Speaker 1: Darren had the biggest story in the history of the
- 13:05Speaker 1: Action Network yesterday. Again you should and there's never enough.
- 13:09Speaker 1: That's what he's saying. Thank you, I thank you. He
- 13:12Speaker 1: did a great job. Listen, Darren's a professional. I think
- 13:15Speaker 1: it's crazy that you got the heat you did for it?
- 13:17Speaker 1: I do? It was by four o'clock. I was like,
- 13:20Speaker 1: why am I so exhausted? It's because I was reading
- 13:23Speaker 1: everything and I think it's emotional. It is emotional. Yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I mean it's emotional. It's emotional when Trump is at
- 13:29Speaker 1: in England and you're like right below Buckingham Palace on nationally.
- 13:34Speaker 1: So let's talk about that for a second. Like, you
- 13:37Speaker 1: made it. You have made it practice in a career.
- 13:40Speaker 1: This is an interesting sort of you bet your life
- 13:43Speaker 1: risk calculation assessment. Right, you have made your career and
- 13:48Speaker 1: and very purposely and with practice, decide you're gonna be polarizing.
- 13:52Speaker 1: You'd rather you know, in the way you present content,
- 13:55Speaker 1: do things that people love or hate, then they just
- 13:58Speaker 1: feel warm about Um. Isn't that exhausting? It is? When
- 14:04Speaker 1: do you regret it? Now? I don't In the past
- 14:07Speaker 1: I have Now I say, do I want to get
- 14:11Speaker 1: into this? Like for example, this morning, there was something
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was going to get into that I chose not
- 14:16Speaker 1: to because I'm just tired? What was it? Come on?
- 14:19Speaker 1: What was it? This won't drop until you'll have some
- 14:21Speaker 1: time nap. Other people got into it, so I wouldn't
- 14:25Speaker 1: have been alone but Texas putting at the University of
- 14:28Speaker 1: Texas football put out it was a graphic saying that
- 14:33Speaker 1: they had they were proud of their highest semester g
- 14:37Speaker 1: P A Ever, what was it? Two point eight nine?
- 14:40Speaker 1: You don't brag about that, Texas? Come on, we got
- 14:44Speaker 1: the plus? Is ever? What is it? That's a plus?
- 14:50Speaker 1: That's a C plus? It is? Yes? Sorry, I don't know.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I only got a three eight nine? Is that is? Dude?
- 14:58Speaker 1: Come on, you don't brag about that two point eight
- 15:01Speaker 1: night A full graphic and everything, and you know what,
- 15:03Speaker 1: they're taking easier classes and the teachers know their football players.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So that's basically probably everyone else's to six. I mean,
- 15:13Speaker 1: you made fun of the L s U billboard. This
- 15:16Speaker 1: is way worse. So I was gonna I was gonna
- 15:19Speaker 1: really activate on that night. Tired. I feel like, let's see,
- 15:24Speaker 1: in the last five weeks since so last eight weeks
- 15:29Speaker 1: since uh one shining Moment, since the n C Double
- 15:31Speaker 1: A Tournament ended, you have been trending on Twitter's four
- 15:35Speaker 1: or five times. Four times, so every other week you
- 15:38Speaker 1: are trending on Twitter. You've been trending on Twitter for
- 15:40Speaker 1: Jeopardy James, for one Shining moment for the L s
- 15:45Speaker 1: U billboard. We did go after them Bill bill Buckner,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and there was one of the things, Oh the forty
- 15:51Speaker 1: yard dash. Five things, five things in eight weeks. Pretty
- 15:56Speaker 1: hard to do that. You have been trending on Twitter.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You were wrong about the billboard. I'll say that you
- 16:00Speaker 1: were wrong about that. I don't think so, you were, Chad.
- 16:04Speaker 1: If they want to, if they want to celebrate a
- 16:06Speaker 1: team to finish second nationally, they've ever right to put
- 16:08Speaker 1: a billboard up. They can. But the runner up logo
- 16:11Speaker 1: with the runner up trophy, thank you so much for
- 16:13Speaker 1: a great season in an incredible four year run. What
- 16:16Speaker 1: do you, Ricky, Bobby, if you're not first or last?
- 16:18Speaker 1: I mean, so what the national runner? I think I'm
- 16:25Speaker 1: with Darren, You're always with me. Well, I think that,
- 16:32Speaker 1: like I'm fine with the billboard. I'm not interested in
- 16:36Speaker 1: the logo in the trophy. They made a runner up logo, okay,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but that's not on L s U. If if it's
- 16:44Speaker 1: there to be used and they're given the trophy, what
- 16:47Speaker 1: are they supposed to do It wasn't there to be used,
- 16:49Speaker 1: let's not use it. The n c A has runner
- 16:52Speaker 1: up trophies that they've given since about and every one
- 16:56Speaker 1: of their championships, they give the trophy, you take the trophy. LS.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You made up a special runner up logo. Okay, Well
- 17:03Speaker 1: if you do it without the logo and you put
- 17:05Speaker 1: the billboard up, then it looks like you won. It
- 17:09Speaker 1: looks like you won. You've got a trophy and a billboard.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It looks like you want the Wait, no, it doesn't.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And I don't want to relitigate this. This will get relitigate.
- 17:16Speaker 1: All right, here's my point. You put up the billboard,
- 17:19Speaker 1: say congrats are great and a great for your run
- 17:23Speaker 1: l s U gymnastics team. That's all you need to say.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You don't need any allusion to And by the way,
- 17:28Speaker 1: we finished second place. Okay, so the two of you,
- 17:32Speaker 1: when your kids finished second and something and they're giving
- 17:34Speaker 1: a trophy, I expect you to take it away from
- 17:36Speaker 1: them and tell them you don't get No. No, that's
- 17:38Speaker 1: not true. See that's the thing. It's just we're not
- 17:41Speaker 1: going to celebrate. You know, I'm not going to post
- 17:44Speaker 1: it on Instagram. He will, he's not. What do you
- 17:49Speaker 1: mean he's not. I watched his kid played baseball every weekend.
- 17:52Speaker 1: My dad, my dad gave me and I will say this.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I won't do this, but my dad and I love
- 17:57Speaker 1: my dad, But I cried, do you When I was four?
- 18:00Speaker 1: I cried. I finished fourth in the penny pick up
- 18:05Speaker 1: in at the Rosalind Country Club. Oh there's so much there,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and my dad bought a trophy. You were you were
- 18:14Speaker 1: crying because you came in fourth? And what are you
- 18:16Speaker 1: doing the penny pickup? You pick up as many pennies.
- 18:21Speaker 1: This is like when you asked me, what do you
- 18:22Speaker 1: do at a crawfish festival? I don't know. What do
- 18:26Speaker 1: you think you crawfish? What do you do with the
- 18:28Speaker 1: penny pickup? Darren? Penny pick up? It's not necessarily a
- 18:33Speaker 1: game that's a three point contest. It's not necessarily a
- 18:37Speaker 1: standard game that all cats know. So all right, listen, Darren,
- 18:41Speaker 1: you gotta go. You got more content to create. I
- 18:43Speaker 1: have my can. It's ranked on Twitter, ranked on Twitter.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yesterday was another banner day for Darren doing the rank
- 18:52Speaker 1: show highest concurrent viewers ever, hindes views ever on his
- 18:56Speaker 1: ranks show that we've been doing for the past three weeks.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Everyone should go check it out every week, Darren is
- 19:01Speaker 1: asking his Twitter following most shocking upset to rank something,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and then he will go through the week and do
- 19:09Speaker 1: voting and people will get to decide what the top
- 19:11Speaker 1: four are and then uh, Darren will review the winner
- 19:14Speaker 1: at the end of the week. And this week is
- 19:15Speaker 1: most shocking upset, So he's gonna go, I've got the winner.
- 19:18Speaker 1: It's that you and Paul LaDuke haven't had a fist
- 19:20Speaker 1: fight yet. That's what I think. Shocking up the way
- 19:25Speaker 1: Chad just looked. He's like, that's gonna happen. Good happen,
- 19:28Speaker 1: good happen. Nice work, Nice work, Darren reveled. Great job,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Thanks black Jack. We're back. Wonderful. We gotta talk NBA Finals, brother,
- 19:43Speaker 1: which is it is Tuesday afternoon. The next game is
- 19:46Speaker 1: Wednesday evening. People are gonna have more than enough time
- 19:49Speaker 1: to listen to this podcast and get our takes. Uh.
- 19:51Speaker 1: In the next twenty four hours, we will learn about
- 19:54Speaker 1: Kevin Durant and Clay Thompson. Let's assume Clay Thompson is
- 19:58Speaker 1: gonna play Kevin Durant is. Now, that's what's gonna happen.
- 20:01Speaker 1: The line opened at five and a half. It's been
- 20:05Speaker 1: bed up to six and a half. It's lingering in
- 20:07Speaker 1: that range. Um let me let let me check in
- 20:10Speaker 1: the free Free Action Network app right now is see
- 20:13Speaker 1: exactly where it is. But you sound like you already
- 20:15Speaker 1: got a take on it. So it's it's insane that
- 20:19Speaker 1: this line is this high. It is utterly insane that
- 20:22Speaker 1: you're getting six points of the Toronto Raptors. If you
- 20:24Speaker 1: don't put the Raptors at six, get your head examined.
- 20:27Speaker 1: They have played eight quarters of basketball. Toronto has outplayed
- 20:32Speaker 1: Golden State seven and a half of those quarters. They
- 20:35Speaker 1: went on. I know we always talked with the Warriors
- 20:37Speaker 1: in the third quarter, how they're this great third quarter team,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and they are. But what happened in Game two wasn't
- 20:43Speaker 1: so much Golden State as Toronto just could not hit
- 20:45Speaker 1: a shot for five minutes and forty seconds. Had Toronto
- 20:50Speaker 1: just made two of those shots, this game goes overtime.
- 20:56Speaker 1: We had a four point game with fifteen seconds to play.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It was unbelievable how they couldn't score for five and
- 21:04Speaker 1: a half minutes. But other than that stretch, they have
- 21:07Speaker 1: outplayed Golden State every other part of these games. And
- 21:12Speaker 1: if you look at Game two, I came out of
- 21:14Speaker 1: game too feeling better about Toronto because Kyle Lowry and
- 21:17Speaker 1: Siachem were in foul trouble the entire game. They each
- 21:21Speaker 1: had two fouls in the first quarter, Lowry had three
- 21:24Speaker 1: early in the second, and winds up fouling out midway
- 21:26Speaker 1: through the fourth. Lowry wasn't even particularly effective. Sam twelve points,
- 21:31Speaker 1: so you had those two guys give you almost nothing.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Marc Gasol was invisible on the floor, and yet you
- 21:39Speaker 1: still had a four point game coming down the stretch,
- 21:43Speaker 1: even with a five and a half minute scoreless streech streak.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I come out of this game looking at Toronto and
- 21:49Speaker 1: saying they've got every piece possible to beat Golden State,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and now you've got Clay Thompson who's a little bit
- 21:55Speaker 1: banged up. DeMarcus Cousins had a great game, but you're
- 22:00Speaker 1: to asked him to play twenty plus minutes every game
- 22:01Speaker 1: now for the rest of the series. I don't know
- 22:03Speaker 1: if he's got that much gas left in the tank.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I don't I don't think anybody knows that. Kevin Durant.
- 22:08Speaker 1: We saw Kevin Durant walking around in the locker room
- 22:11Speaker 1: Mary in the fourth quarter of that game. Look to
- 22:13Speaker 1: me like he was walking around with a limp look
- 22:15Speaker 1: pretty noticeable. I don't know if he's coming back at all.
- 22:18Speaker 1: He's certainly not back on Wednesday. And you're gonna give
- 22:22Speaker 1: me six points all day, all day, Toronto. There wasn't
- 22:25Speaker 1: anything in that run that Golden State had that made
- 22:28Speaker 1: you think, all right, this team is back to where
- 22:31Speaker 1: it was. That game one wasn't anomaly based on rust
- 22:35Speaker 1: and Toronto having you know, so much emotion playing at home.
- 22:38Speaker 1: The reason I didn't feel that way is because look
- 22:40Speaker 1: what happened right after it. Toronto bounced back, took over
- 22:43Speaker 1: the rest of that third quarter. They outscored Golden State
- 22:46Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. It's not like they faded, they didn't.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I mean that team bounced back. And what I mean
- 22:53Speaker 1: if you look at the fourth quarter chat, there was
- 22:55Speaker 1: a point with about five minutes ago, they were down
- 22:57Speaker 1: twelve and they cut it to four with under thirty
- 23:01Speaker 1: seconds to play. That team has a lot of weapons,
- 23:05Speaker 1: They play very fast, and they play great defense. Golden
- 23:09Speaker 1: State is somewhat limited offensively right now, which is weird
- 23:13Speaker 1: to say. But when Steph Curry doesn't have his shot falling,
- 23:17Speaker 1: or Clay Thompson, one of them, if both of them
- 23:20Speaker 1: aren't hitting. At the same time, there's not a lot
- 23:22Speaker 1: of offensive firepower on the floor right now. It's so
- 23:25Speaker 1: interesting you say that. I saw a great line on
- 23:27Speaker 1: Twitter the other day. It might have been by somebody
- 23:28Speaker 1: at the Ringer who wrote, is it possible that Golden
- 23:34Speaker 1: Steak can have the two best shooters of all time
- 23:36Speaker 1: and not have enough shooting? Yes, because outside of those
- 23:40Speaker 1: two there's none on the floor. I mean, they desperately
- 23:44Speaker 1: needed Quinn Cook to make each of the three point
- 23:47Speaker 1: threes that he made. Um, they needed Cousins to do
- 23:51Speaker 1: everything that he did, and they still barely won that game.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I I don't think they have enough firepower without Durant
- 23:58Speaker 1: in this series. They also can rebound at the end
- 24:01Speaker 1: of the game. Nope, because Cousins was standing out by
- 24:04Speaker 1: the three point line and Draymond Green. Listen, Draymond Green
- 24:08Speaker 1: is having the series of his life right now. But again,
- 24:11Speaker 1: how long is he going to keep that up? I mean,
- 24:14Speaker 1: he is the motor driving that team. But outside of
- 24:18Speaker 1: Draymond Green, you don't have a lot of bigs download
- 24:20Speaker 1: a rebound and Kawhi Leonards a hell of a rebounder.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Gasol when he's down there can do it, Sam can
- 24:26Speaker 1: do it, and Lowry is even a pretty good rebounder
- 24:28Speaker 1: for a guard. So I just think they're out muscled
- 24:32Speaker 1: in this series without Durant. This is the first time
- 24:36Speaker 1: they have needed Kevin Durant on the floor. Is Toronto
- 24:40Speaker 1: much much better than we gave him credit for? Yes
- 24:43Speaker 1: before the see before the series started. Before of us,
- 24:46Speaker 1: none of us were in Toronto before the series started,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and they did not look like an offensive firepower team.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I think we underestimated to the defense. The defense that
- 24:55Speaker 1: Toronto plays makes life miserable for Golden State. I mean,
- 24:58Speaker 1: there is a hand in someone's face every time down
- 25:02Speaker 1: the floor, and they've basically decided Toronto's basically decided that
- 25:05Speaker 1: they're gonna play five on three that if Draymond Green
- 25:09Speaker 1: and Andrea Aguadala are going to beat them, they can
- 25:11Speaker 1: live with that. They're gonna let those guys shoot. You
- 25:13Speaker 1: see it in both games, those guys have wide open
- 25:16Speaker 1: looks they're just not making I mean, Iguadala made it
- 25:19Speaker 1: at the end of the game to seal that thing.
- 25:22Speaker 1: But you know they'll live with that. But they're gonna
- 25:26Speaker 1: cover Thompson and Curry as tough as they can. And
- 25:30Speaker 1: the other thing too, with this hamstring with Clay Thompson,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I fully expect him to play and his offense may
- 25:35Speaker 1: be fine, but he's been guarding Kawhi Leonard a lot.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And if that hamstring is a little tight or it's
- 25:41Speaker 1: a little off, what does that mean for Kawhi Leonard's game,
- 25:44Speaker 1: because it probably gives him a little more room to operate.
- 25:48Speaker 1: You've so convinced me that Toronto is the right side
- 25:50Speaker 1: in this game at plus six or whatever it ends
- 25:53Speaker 1: up being. That is my job. That almost makes me
- 25:56Speaker 1: want to bet Golden State. I mean, listen, I get it,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I get it right. It's Golden State. But you know,
- 26:02Speaker 1: the other thing is to people talk about this going
- 26:04Speaker 1: back to Oracle's going back to Oracle. I get it's
- 26:06Speaker 1: a great home crowd, but they've lost games at home
- 26:09Speaker 1: in these playoffs. They gave two games away to the
- 26:11Speaker 1: Clippers in Oracle. I mean, it's not like they don't
- 26:16Speaker 1: lose an Oracle. They can. I just don't know how
- 26:20Speaker 1: much gas this team has left in the tank. They've
- 26:22Speaker 1: been playing in finals for four of the last five years.
- 26:26Speaker 1: They're doing it. This is their fifth year, four to
- 26:28Speaker 1: the last five Okay, so this is five out of six. Yeah,
- 26:31Speaker 1: so they're doing this now without Durant, and it just
- 26:35Speaker 1: kind of feels like those role players have gotten a
- 26:37Speaker 1: little bit maybe past their cell by date, guys like
- 26:40Speaker 1: Livingston and Iguadala. Now you've got no Cavan Luney either,
- 26:44Speaker 1: which we haven't even talked about. Looney has been such
- 26:47Speaker 1: an integral part of that team because they don't really
- 26:50Speaker 1: play a big download. They depend on Looney to do
- 26:55Speaker 1: that kind of dirty work. And now he's gone. So
- 26:58Speaker 1: now you have to get that play out of because
- 27:00Speaker 1: it's not a luxury anymore. He has to do it.
- 27:03Speaker 1: If he doesn't do it, I don't know what they do. Well.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I do think which Steve Kurt did in that game
- 27:07Speaker 1: was really really smart, Like he made his line up bigger,
- 27:11Speaker 1: He used cousins in new ways obviously he had to.
- 27:14Speaker 1: He used Andrew Bogett more than he was using them before. Uh,
- 27:18Speaker 1: there were a lot of things when I watched that game.
- 27:21Speaker 1: They gave me confidence. Now, am I going to bet
- 27:23Speaker 1: that game at Warriors minus six? Probably not, Like I
- 27:27Speaker 1: probably lean to the Raptors. I haven't fully made my
- 27:29Speaker 1: decision yet. Um, but there were things in that game
- 27:33Speaker 1: also remarkably low scoring this series very much so. And
- 27:36Speaker 1: again I think that comes back to the fact that
- 27:39Speaker 1: the great thing about Toronto, if you're a Raptors fan
- 27:42Speaker 1: or if you're betting Toronto, is that they can play
- 27:44Speaker 1: anyway you want to play. If you want to run,
- 27:47Speaker 1: they can run. If you want to grind it out
- 27:49Speaker 1: down low, They've got guys like Abaka and Gasol and
- 27:52Speaker 1: Siakum that can do that. They can play any style.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So when Steve Kerr wants to go big, they'll counter.
- 27:58Speaker 1: They can go big. If you want to take those
- 28:01Speaker 1: guys off the floor and you want to run, Toronto
- 28:03Speaker 1: is probably faster than Golden State right now, so they
- 28:05Speaker 1: can run. Kur has done a great job, there's no
- 28:09Speaker 1: question about it. But I just think they're at a
- 28:11Speaker 1: disadvantage here total that this game is a two thirteen.
- 28:16Speaker 1: What are you thinking? I'm thinking under I think that
- 28:20Speaker 1: it took a herculean effort to approach to thirteen in
- 28:26Speaker 1: game two because you had Steph Curry missing I mean,
- 28:30Speaker 1: what his first seven eight shots and then he still
- 28:34Speaker 1: somehow manages to get thirty four points. Um, Toronto was
- 28:38Speaker 1: so sloppy with their fouls in game two. I can't
- 28:42Speaker 1: imagine that happens again. I mean the fouls that they
- 28:46Speaker 1: were committing in that game Golden I mean, how many
- 28:48Speaker 1: times did you hear Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy
- 28:50Speaker 1: say that Golden State is only in this game because
- 28:53Speaker 1: they're living at the free throw line. I can't imagine
- 28:56Speaker 1: that happens twice in a row. And if that doesn't happen,
- 28:59Speaker 1: you're looking considerably fewer points. God, is just so hard.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Like looking at the percentages right now, I'm opening the
- 29:06Speaker 1: app looking at the percentages. It's hard to even say,
- 29:10Speaker 1: like which way I want to go based on percentages.
- 29:15Speaker 1: You've got se the money on the over of the
- 29:19Speaker 1: bets on the over. So that's telling me that the
- 29:22Speaker 1: wise guys, if they're playing this, I'll play the over
- 29:24Speaker 1: well playing and uh, bets and money are both on Toronto.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah it's too many points, Yeah, it's too many points.
- 29:37Speaker 1: You can't. I don't see a way to justify the
- 29:41Speaker 1: Golden State's gonna come out here and win this game comfortably.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I just don't. I don't see how they do it.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Kyle Lowry has been remarkable in the finals. In two games,
- 29:54Speaker 1: such an interesting player, not anything like you would have expected.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Like if you only know the narrative of Kyle Lowry
- 30:01Speaker 1: as a guy who has spent five years choking in
- 30:05Speaker 1: the playoffs. He feels like in ways that Kauai isn't
- 30:10Speaker 1: the heartbeat of that team. The way he's playing defense,
- 30:13Speaker 1: the way he's body up on people like that is
- 30:16Speaker 1: setting the tone for this team and what they're doing
- 30:18Speaker 1: to keep the Warriors at bay. And the thing is
- 30:20Speaker 1: too with Lowry, his defense has been unreal. I mean,
- 30:23Speaker 1: the guy is leading the NBA and charges taken in
- 30:27Speaker 1: the postseason, but he hasn't had one of those games
- 30:31Speaker 1: yet where he goes off for seven or thirty and
- 30:34Speaker 1: you know he's going to have one or two of those,
- 30:36Speaker 1: and if he has one, I look to him in
- 30:38Speaker 1: Game three, because you're gonna be on the road, it's
- 30:40Speaker 1: gonna be loud, it's going to be a tough environment.
- 30:43Speaker 1: He's the guy who's got to step up early because
- 30:45Speaker 1: you know Kauai is going to do what he does.
- 30:47Speaker 1: But you don't want to depend on Pascal Siakim in
- 30:49Speaker 1: the first quarter of that game. You want Lowry to
- 30:52Speaker 1: be the guy there. He's got to be the dude
- 30:54Speaker 1: taking that shot when it comes around to him instead
- 30:56Speaker 1: of passing it up and you know, looking to move
- 30:59Speaker 1: the ball. He's got to take it like he's got
- 31:00Speaker 1: to be the guy to set up and step the tone,
- 31:02Speaker 1: step the tone. All right. So it's tied one one
- 31:05Speaker 1: home court advantage to the Warriors right now. Uh give
- 31:11Speaker 1: me you are taken. Who is the series? Toronto and seven?
- 31:16Speaker 1: Toronto and seven? Yeah, I think we leave Golden State
- 31:19Speaker 1: to too Game five. I don't know, it'll depend on Durant.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I don't know where Game five is gonna go yet,
- 31:29Speaker 1: but I think we're going seven. I think Toronto. Even
- 31:32Speaker 1: if Durant's back, you've got to figure this some level
- 31:34Speaker 1: of rust at some point. He's probably I'm not gonna
- 31:37Speaker 1: say probably, he's not going to be a hundred percent.
- 31:40Speaker 1: You don't know if you've got Clay at a percent.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Who the hell knows what's going on with Steph Curry.
- 31:43Speaker 1: He was not himself in that game and we never
- 31:47Speaker 1: really found out what was wrong, So we don't know
- 31:50Speaker 1: what's going on there. I think this has seven games
- 31:53Speaker 1: on it. I'm still going to Goling State. Yeah, I mean,
- 31:58Speaker 1: it's hard to pick against them, Golden State and seven
- 32:02Speaker 1: was plus five fifty when the series started. Man, you
- 32:07Speaker 1: got you got betterans on a sweep. Yeah, that's all right.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So we like go. You like Toronto in the series,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I like Golden State. I think we both like the
- 32:17Speaker 1: under I think we both like Toronto in Game three.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Anything else have to say, No, I think we're good.
- 32:24Speaker 1: This has been the Favorites podcast from the Action Network.
