- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: One of the most inspiring stories from the music world over the last few decades comes from the rock band The Foo Fighters.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Dave Grohl was the drummer for the mega successful band Nirvana.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: He was already an established musician in his own right, but when the lead singer of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994, nobody expected Dave Grohl to form his own band and take on the role of a songwriter and lead singer.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: But at that point, Dave Grohl had been writing and recording songs for a long time.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: So the very next year in 1995, he released the first Foo Fighters album.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And not only did he write all the songs, he also played all the instruments himself.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: By 1999, the Foo Fighters consisted of a full band and had released two more albums.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: In the following years, they continued to grow in popularity despite changing styles and pop radio.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Now the Foo Fighters are one of the most recognizable and popular rock bands in the whole world.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And there's a simple lesson here persistence pays off.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: For Dave Grohl, success did not come easy.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Even though he had already been in a successful band before, Nirvana, there were no guarantees that this current band, the Foo Fighters, would be successful.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: He had to prove himself all over again.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Yet he kept on going.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: He kept doing what he loved and assumed that his hard work would eventually pay off.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Thomas Edison said, Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Now, success can be far off, or success might be just around the corner.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: But one thing is for sure, it's never going to happen if you quit.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Why is that?
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Because the thing that makes you successful is your persistence, and you carry that around with you everywhere that you go.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So don't quit.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Don't give up.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Just keep plugging away on your goals and with your writing.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And one day you'll look back and say, I never knew I was so close to success.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
