- 0:00When you're looking for a life partner, or you encounter someone you want to
- 0:04befriend, how do you go about pursuing them?
- 0:08Do you expect them to carry the entire work of building a relationship,
- 0:12hoping that they will turn out to be your soulmate?
- 0:16Or do you make an effort, effort in knowing them, and making sure that you can
- 0:22pronounce them your soulmate?
- 0:24I am assuming that you said that you would not blindly walk into the relationships.
- 0:30You would do what needs done. Why is our relationship with Jesus any different?
- 0:35We know he wants a relationship with us. There is abundant proof of that.
- 0:40He died on the cross for us.
- 0:42Should we also task him with the onus of building a relationship with us?
- 0:46Here is what I assume most people do when they want to meet someone or they
- 0:50meet someone that they want to grow closer with.
- 0:54This list, of course, omits the step where you first find out that this person
- 0:59loves the good Lord first.
- 1:01So what do you do? You look them up. In our age of social media,
- 1:06it's easy to stalk people without being caught. So you look them up.
- 1:10Then you set up short dates, maybe coffee here or there, a lunch.
- 1:16And then you seek out common acquaintances and you get any relevant scoop you can.
- 1:21And then you spend more dedicated time. You're listening to them.
- 1:25You're observing how they behave in public, observing how they're reacting to you.
- 1:30You're doing things together, or you're just hanging out.
- 1:34As time goes, you start sharing hopes and fears.
- 1:38Finally, you meet their close friends and family. You get more information.
- 1:44You're curious about how you would fit in with them.
- 1:47You want to see how a life integrated with these close friends and family would look like.
- 1:54And just like that, you keep growing closer and closer with time.
- 1:59There it is. We have it all figured out for how to find a strong relationship with our soulmates.
- 2:05How does this translate to fortifying your relationship with Jesus?
- 2:09Simple enough. It is the same.
- 2:13Come up in the Bible. Read it cover to cover. His character will come alive. Set time aside with Him.
- 2:21Spend your daily devotional. Spend your holy hours, whatever you want to call it.
- 2:27Don't start your day without coffee with Jesus.
- 2:30Talk to fellow Christians who love the Lord and are seeking Him.
- 2:34Read the work of the apostles. They took time to write about him.
- 2:38And then observe. Observe how he's working in others' lives.
- 2:43And serve. Serve alongside him.
- 2:46Roll up your sleeves and wash feet if you have to, figuratively, of course.
- 2:51And then seek him through prayer.
- 2:56Pray, pray, pray. Quote, rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.
- 3:02In everything give thanks.
- 3:04For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. End quote.
- 3:111 Thessalonians 5, verses 16 through 18.
- 3:16And finally, ask the Holy Spirit and Father Almighty to open your eyes to who
- 3:21Jesus is and pray to help fortify your bond with Him.
- 3:26And then keep growing closer and closer with time.
- 3:31May you discover Him, the one true love, who is constant in your life.
- 3:36Dear Jesus, reveal yourself to me. Help me grow closer to you.
- 3:42Remove these scales from my eyes so that I can see and know you better.
- 3:47Guide me into a relationship with you that is the strongest one in my life.
- 3:52May all my other relationships be built upon ours. Amen.
