- 0:32probably cold as well i have refused to step
- 0:36outside though i'm not doing it i was supposed
- 0:38to wake up and go straight to the gym and i thought
- 0:40um maybe take a rest day i do not need a rest
- 0:44day from the gym y 'all i've only gone twice
- 0:47this week so far so that says a lot about me
- 0:50um anyways uh so i'm gonna just record this podcast
- 0:56edit it and then do all the other things I need
- 1:00to do today. Truthfully, I need to deep clean
- 1:04my room so bad. I haven't even gone through my
- 1:07Christmas gifts and we're in mid February. Still
- 1:11the beginning of February, but we're here. We're
- 1:14doing it. So I need to go through that and I
- 1:17need to start going through clothes and just
- 1:21things for various reasons that I will reveal
- 1:24later. just not yet because there's still a lot
- 1:27of prayer going into life but yeah anyways um
- 1:31so i just got back gosh a week ago from florida
- 1:39i know i told you all i was going down there
- 1:41to see serena and then i got kind of snowed in
- 1:45kind of quote unquote i was supposed to come
- 1:48home saturday the snow started saturday they
- 1:51cancelled my flight After conversations and just
- 1:54like hesitancy about flying and driving we thought
- 1:58better safe than sorry come home Tuesday night
- 2:01So step coming home Saturday. I came home Tuesday
- 2:04and everything worked out so well I got to spend
- 2:07amazing time with my best friend and then I got

- 2:18and then it was sydney's birthday so then i got
- 2:21to hang out with sydney and that group and yeah
- 2:25my nose is still stuffy if you can hear it i
- 2:27don't know what is wrong side note i do not know
- 2:30what is wrong with me i have not been able to
- 2:33get fully past this little colder agitation and
- 2:37now i'm thinking like does my apartment have
- 2:39mold is that the problem is that why i've been
- 2:41constantly stuffy for the last Kid you not, three
- 2:45months I've had this little head cold. Three
- 2:48months, I have not felt normal, y 'all. That's
- 2:51crazy to even, like, consider. So, I know. I'm
- 2:58taking vitamin C. I'm trying to sweat it out,
- 3:00but the best I ever felt was when I was in Florida
- 3:04and it was warm outside and I was able to, like,
- 3:06kind of work through it all. And then I got home.
- 3:09and one it was freezing I was frigid out so that's
- 3:13never good for me because again I'm self -diagnosed
- 3:16allergic to the cold and two I just wonder like
- 3:22is it something in North Carolina or is there
- 3:25mold in my apartment or is my immune system really
- 3:27that bad right now that I'm still sick I just
- 3:31can't believe it anyways Yeah, here I am still
- 3:36sounding like this. I took off like two whole
- 3:38weeks from recording Hoping to give y 'all a
- 3:40better voice and here I am. I still can't sing
- 3:43in church Still can't really sing in the car
- 3:45can't sing at all and every once while I get
- 3:48a coughing fit It's fine. It's whatever not that
- 3:51big a deal one day Probably not but one day I
- 3:55am hopeful to be back to normal Yeah, so if you
- 3:59think about me pray over it, please. Okay, so
- 4:04Yeah, home from Florida, lunch with Nikki, dinner

- 4:11birthday that I work with and go to church with
- 4:13and I sound like I don't like her. I love her.
- 4:15She's a sweetie pie. She turns 21 today, so everyone
- 4:18tell her happy birthday. I mean, it'll be a day
- 4:21late when you hear this, but we're taking her
- 4:23to sushi and to get her first legal drink. I
- 4:27hope her parents aren't mad that I'm taking her
- 4:29and they're not. We'll see. I don't know them,
- 4:31so it won't affect me. um yeah and i think that's
- 4:35it i don't know if i have any other updates for
- 4:38y 'all it's really been not crazy oh i also need
- 4:42to go to raleigh tomorrow and i need to my dad
- 4:46is moving so i have to go get my stuff from his
- 4:50place bring it here which i also have to work

- 4:55for dinner i need to text my cousin see if i
- 4:57can take her kids to ice cream I'll probably
- 5:01text my sister and see if she's available and
- 5:03spend some time with her. We'll see. I need to
- 5:06kind of cut her down today and get organized
- 5:08with that as well. Alright, well now that y 'all
- 5:12have listened to me ramble for the hundredth
- 5:14millionth time, let's dive into this week's episode.
- 5:22I know it's been a hot minute, but we are picking
- 5:26back up with the lineage of Jesus. Whether you
- 5:28love it or you hate it, here we are. Some of
- 5:31you have been listening to it. Some of you have
- 5:33avoided it like the plague. I kind of get it,
- 5:36like going through the genealogy is not fun,
- 5:39but I will say hearing each person's individual
- 5:42story is interesting to me. So I'm sorry if you're
- 5:46hating it. I've grown to love it. I really have.
- 5:49So anyways, that's on you, not on me. We're picking
- 5:53up with Rhea Boam, who is the son of King Solomon,
- 5:58the wisest king to ever grace this earth outside
- 6:01of Jesus. And y 'all, let me tell you now, this
- 6:03guy was a mess up. Like, I usually would use
- 6:07a different word, but we all know I'm working
- 6:09on not cursing. He was like the old 2000 movies
- 6:13where it was a high school outcast that just
- 6:15can't seem to get anything right, except this
- 6:18guy wasn't an outcast. He was Quite frankly,
- 6:21just stupid and super popular. Yeah, like he
- 6:26was a prince who became king, so not quite an
- 6:30outcast. But for every ounce of wisdom his father
- 6:34had, Ray of Bone had the opposite. Just, mm,
- 6:40opposite size of the scale these two were on.
- 6:43His daddy left him with the wealthiest kingdom
- 6:46to ever grace this earth, y 'all. Literally,
- 6:49his dad handed him life on a silver, actually
- 6:54take that back, on a gold platter and he basically
- 6:57threw it all away. How? You might ask. Well,
- 7:01let's start with his name. It means the people
- 7:06are enlarged in Hebrew. And I mean, let's think
- 7:09about it. When has that ever meant a good thing?
- 7:13And we're not talking enlarged as in there's
- 7:15a lot of people at them. It's like, oh, the crowd
- 7:17is enlarged. Like, they're coming for you. They're
- 7:20angry. Think more old English versus today's
- 7:25wording, I would say. So has that ever meant
- 7:28anything good? I would say never, literally.
- 7:34Rehoboam was 41 years old when he became king.
- 7:37So he had plenty of time to watch his dad rule
- 7:41the kingdom, get to know his advisors, and you
- 7:44would think homie would have had time to pick
- 7:46up on a thing or two. But after his dad died,
- 7:50this other guy who had fled Judah and was scared
- 7:53of Solomon had come back thinking that he could
- 7:55get onto Rehoboam's good side, be in his good
- 7:59graces, and represent most of Israel. Which,
- 8:02there is a story about a prophet going to this
- 8:04guy in the field and being like, God's gonna
- 8:06use you and prophesied I won't get too much into
- 8:11it, so there's a reason why he did this and he
- 8:13thought he could do this. But things did not
- 8:16go as planned. The dude was like, your dad made
- 8:19us work too hard, too long, please make our life
- 8:23easy and we will be happier to serve you. and
- 8:26the new king said hold up let me talk to my dad's
- 8:29council and i'll circle back to you in a few
- 8:31days and the king did not like what his dad's
- 8:36council of old guys had to say to him when they
- 8:39told him that they agreed that he should make
- 8:41the people's life easier he fired all of them
- 8:44he said get out that's clearly you don't know
- 8:48how to rule these people i do so you're gone
- 8:50and he started chatting with his cool young friends
- 8:54And that's what was up. Or so he thought. After
- 8:58his chitchat with his friends, he went back to
- 9:00the other guy and was like, you think my dad
- 9:03was hard? Wait till you see what I do. You'll
- 9:06regret asking for an easier life. Basically,
- 9:09when you cry and your parents were like, I'll
- 9:12give you a reason to cry. That was his version
- 9:15of it. Oh, just my parents. Cool. Well, the people
- 9:21did not like the answer and the kingdom divided.
- 9:24Some served the new guy and others, well actually
- 9:28just the tribe of Judah and the Jemin stayed
- 9:30with Rehoboam. The other ten followed our new
- 9:35homie. Okay, so just so you have this scene set
- 9:42for you. But let's also remember that God told
- 9:44Solomon he would do all of this as a punishment
- 9:47for Solomon not being faithful when he married
- 9:51hundreds, almost thousands of women and started
- 9:56serving their gods and their idols. And I want
- 9:58to remind you that our actions can cause others
- 10:03to suffer the consequences. When we sin, sometimes
- 10:07we don't see the outcome. or the hurt or we get
- 10:10a portion of it but it also can affect other
- 10:12people like imagine or maybe you don't have to
- 10:16imagine if you've ever been cheated on yeah they
- 10:18cheated they're the one who sinned but you are
- 10:21the one suffering the pain from it or if you're
- 10:23married and you have children your children are
- 10:25suffering the pain from it as well like the actions
- 10:28you have or the actions others have can have
- 10:31consequences for the rest of us let's get back
- 10:34to the story So outside of 10 out of 12 tribes
- 10:38leaving Rehoboam's kingdom and establishing their
- 10:42own rule under the new guy, Rehoboam was doing
- 10:45okay. We see in 2 Chronicles chapter 12 that
- 10:49he was very established and strong, but as we
- 10:53know, the mighty must fall and be humbled and
- 10:55that's exactly what happens. He abandons the
- 10:59law of God and so did all of Judah with him,
- 11:02and the other 10 tribes were serving, believe
- 11:05it or not, two golden calves that had been made
- 11:08by the other guy yes yes we have seen this story
- 11:11play out before and the other two tribes were
- 11:14doing i guess whatever ray of bone was doing
- 11:16at the time which was not serving god and also
- 11:21serving other idols they just happened to not
- 11:23be the two golden calves because god was so mad
- 11:27in this man's fifth year of reigning that he
- 11:32had egypt come up against him As he's dealing
- 11:36with war from within and without, a prophet comes
- 11:39to visit and says, thus says the lord, you abandoned
- 11:43me, so I have abandoned you to the hands of the
- 11:47shack. I don't know if I said that name right.
- 11:51That looks right. Honestly, back then names are
- 11:55hard. Names be hard. In chapter 12 verses 6 and
- 11:598 we see this play out. It says, Then the princess
- 12:02of Israel and the king, so the princess being
- 12:05Rehoboam's sons, the princess of Israel and the
- 12:09king humbled themselves and said, the Lord is
- 12:12righteous. When the Lord saw that they had humbled
- 12:15themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemachiah
- 12:19who was the prophet that had spoken to Rehoboam
- 12:22earlier and the other guy. And he said, They
- 12:27have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them,
- 12:30but I will grant them some deliverance, and my
- 12:33wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by
- 12:36the hand of Shishak. Nevertheless, they shall
- 12:40be servants to him, that they may know my service
- 12:43and the service of the kingdom of the countries.
- 12:47And in verse 12 he says, And when he humbled
- 12:49himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him.
- 12:53so as not to make a complete destruction. Moreover,
- 12:57conditions were good in Judah. That word in Hebrew,
- 13:02the word good, means good things were found.
- 13:05So even in the bad, good can be found. At the
- 13:10end of chapter 12, we see Rehoboam did not seek
- 13:14God and did evil in the sight of the Lord. So
- 13:17after God showed grace, he still hadn't fully
- 13:19changed his ways or his heart. Now Rehoboam never
- 13:24saw the end of the war, but his son Abijah, who
- 13:28took his place on the throne, did. And 1 Kings
- 13:3215 verses 1 -8. Now let's read that. Now in the
- 13:3718th year of King Jeroboam, the son of Nebat,
- 13:41Abijah began to reign over Judah. He reigned
- 13:46for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name
- 13:49was Mecca, the daughter of And he walked in all
- 13:55the sins that his father did before him, and
- 13:57his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his
- 14:00God as the heart of David his father. Nevertheless,
- 14:06for David's sake, the Lord his God gave him a
- 14:08lamp in Jerusalem, setting up his son after him
- 14:13and establishing Jerusalem. Because David did
- 14:18what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did
- 14:21not turn aside from anything that he had commanded
- 14:23him all the days of his life except in the matter
- 14:26of Uriah the Hittite. Now, there was war between
- 14:30Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
- 14:34The rest of the Acts of Adjaba and all that he
- 14:37did are they not written in the Book of Chronicles
- 14:40of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between
- 14:43Abja and Jeroboam. And Abbaja slept with his
- 14:47father, and they buried him in the city of David.
- 14:51And Azah his son reigned in his place." So in
- 14:552 Chronicles chapters 13 and 14, Abbaja goes
- 14:58to war with the other guy, that being Jeroboam.
- 15:02And Jeroboam is the one that helped fulfill the
- 15:04promise that God had made about war and upset
- 15:06for Israel. And as we know, Abbaja wins the war.
- 15:10But before he wins the war, it's kind of funny.
- 15:12Like he makes a whole speech at the end of 14ish
- 15:17about how God had promised Israel to King David,
- 15:22his great grandfather, and how God will win this
- 15:25war for them because he's the rightful heir of
- 15:28it all. And I mean, he's not wrong. But it shows
- 15:31us that people can believe in God and not serve
- 15:34him. People can believe in God but not follow
- 15:37him. But also use that belief to serve their
- 15:41own agenda. God comes throughout, not for Abja
- 15:44of course, but for his people, as in God's people.
- 15:49They win the war and God strikes down the other
- 15:51guy. And Abja goes on getting stronger. He marries
- 15:55lots of wives and he has lots of kids. And Eiza
- 15:59takes over his throne one day and that's the
- 16:01end of that story. So who was Rehoboam? Well,
- 16:06definitely not a man after God's own heart, that's
- 16:08for sure. He was the grandson of David and the
- 16:11son of Solomon. He took reign at 41 years old
- 16:14and he was king for 17 years. So, it ended around
- 16:19age 58 years old for him. He did what served
- 16:23him. He held his own people hostage, made places
- 16:26of worship for idols. He listened to God when
- 16:29he had to. Wow, the audacity. How often do we
- 16:33do that? He was ransacked by Egypt. humbled himself
- 16:37to God when he needed to most, and God, in my
- 16:41opinion, showed him grace. He let his pride take
- 16:44his life again and did what was evil in the sight
- 16:47of God. So probably serving idols again. And
- 16:51then he died, with the kingdom divided and no
- 16:53healing. I think what we can learn from his story
- 16:56is one, Solomon's sins affected generations down
- 17:01the line. So once again, our sins can affect
- 17:04others and we can be affected by others' sins
- 17:07as well. But that we also serve a grace -giving
- 17:11God. And I believe if Rehoboam had sought after
- 17:15God and sought to serve God, that God would have
- 17:18allowed his kingdom to heal during Rehoboam's
- 17:21reign. 2. We see that it's so natural to sin.
- 17:26We then fall to the to the repercussions of our
- 17:29sin, so then we need God, so we seek him out
- 17:33and humble ourselves and when we get what we
- 17:35want or a little relief, we go right back to
- 17:38our original sin. For Rhea Boam, it was idols
- 17:40and pride. For you and me, it probably looks
- 17:43a little different. We see in this story that
- 17:46God is a god of his word. He keeps his promises,
- 17:49but he also gives grace and allows us to experience
- 17:53or find good even in the middle of the bad. like
- 17:56when your kingdom is at war. And, just briefly,
- 17:59who was Abijah? He was a short -term king who
- 18:02reigned three years. He was just a guy used.
- 18:07Not seeking God, not chasing after God, but God
- 18:10used him to remind Jeroboam that God established
- 18:14an everlasting covenant. A covenant of salt with
- 18:19David and his descendants, highlighting that
- 18:21Jeroboam's reign was a rebellion against the
- 18:24divine order. And God uses imperfect vessels.
- 18:30Let's pray. to send and come back to you and
- 18:56see the grace that you give. Thank you that repentance
- 19:00is a thing that we get to experience and your
- 19:02love is also one. Thank you for using imperfect
- 19:06vessels that are planted and based in you that
- 19:11get the job done just like Jeroboam was used
- 19:14and Ramones line continued down to Jesus. Thank
- 19:20you that all things come planned through you.
- 19:23and I ask that we continue to find the good and
- 19:25the grace in everything, every day. In your name,
- 19:29Jesus' name, amen. Alright, that's all I have
