[rock music] All right, everybody, it's Full Spectrum Cycling again.
• 0:25
Yeah. And it's show number 288 this week. It's not 288 below outside, but it's dang cold out there. Is it 88 or 89? 289. Nine. Yeah, that's it. Hey. You- I know it was good for something here...
• 0:39
well, you, like, missed 288, so I just- Yeah... wanted to introduce you for 288. Ah. It, uh, 289 is the, uh, area code of, uh, the Toronto area. Oh, okay. So. There you go. So it's 289 then. Yeah. Yeah.
• 0:53
Got- Including the Hamilton, eh? Got behind myself. Hamilton, Ontario, eh? Yeah. Nice. Am I on? It is. Oh. I don't hear myself. No, I don't hear you either. No one likes me. Here, wait a second. Let's, let's try this.
• 1:09
Now go. Uh-huh. [laughs] Hello. You're on the wrong headset for some reason. [laughs] I have the only headset available. Okay, I gave you the wrong [laughs] headset for some reason.
• 1:20
[laughs] Hey, at least we figured that one out quickly. There we go. That's kind of not like our normal modus operandi. We're kind of like, "What's going on? Fumble, fumble, fumble."
• 1:28
After doing this for so many times it's like, "What?" Gas- gas light, light. Now I'm off. Oh, now you're on. [laughs] Now it was like gas light, light. [laughs] What on earth is- All right... okay.
• 1:42
I think we have all the right buttons pushed, right? Shit. This thing- You're really starting to push my buttons, brother... that thing, that thing's red. [laughs] This thing's moving over here.
• 1:51
I'm gonna have to blow my- Think she's doing that... schnoz Tony Randall style again. All right, well- It's gonna happen... if we- All right...
• 1:55
we don't have a lot for this show today, so it's a good thing we wasted a bunch of time doing that. [laughs] So, what was it, 12 below last night? It was pretty chilly. Mm, I don't know.
• 2:05
I- Lund's texted me this morning- [laughs]... and it was five below, and he said, "You wanna go for a bike ride today?" And I... "Down, down at the lakefront?" I'm like, "Ah, actually sounds kind of fun."
• 2:15
Did you guys do it? We did it. Yeah. The idea is sound, I just... I, I'm crawling out of- I was, I was childing... I got, I was crawling out- I get excused... I was crawling out of plague two. Yeah.
• 2:24
Somehow I got plague two after, uh, the events of the weekend. The, the previous plague? Yeah. That was brutal. I don't even... Well, uh, yeah. That was brutal. This was, well, plague light, or, you know, I don't know.
• 2:35
Yeah, very brutal. It was a very localized annoyance. Right on. But- I'm not gonna say anything. Yeah, you shouldn't. Just in case. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, don't jinx. Yeah. Don't, j- don't jinx yourself.
• 2:47
So I, I met Lunds, Puck, Dave fucking Lunds down at, uh, McKinley. So our plan was to go out on the, uh- Shove... you know, inner harbor there where the motorcycles were doing the racing last weekend. It's gone.
• 3:02
Well, the track is still out there, but you can't get down the ramp onto the ice because they're doing some kind of repair on that- Mm... on that ramp.
• 3:12
So I don't know how they got on, but they must have gone to, like, the other side of the- Is that off- Over by the sailing center... off the launch? That's where they would normally go on- Okay...
• 3:22
but that's being, um, totally- Constructioned... totally constructioned. Oh. Got it.
• 3:26
It's, like, got the big, the big wall that's all, all the water's sucked out of it, and they're doing something with the boat ramp- No shit... that goes into the water. Weird.
• 3:34
Well, the boats are not using it here in the wintertime. [laughs] Go figure. Get your, got to build- Other than that one boat... Michael's has to make more money. [laughs] Or keep- Yeah...
• 3:43
keep his fucking billboard up there. Right? So we did go- Mm. Yeah... we went to the boat. We went to the, uh, the, the SS Minnow. [laughs] And I gotta say, I'm a little pissed off about that thing. Yeah.
• 3:54
Because, like, it- It's looking a little- Well-... French... so for- At first-... two and a half months it was boat, nothing on it. Mm-hmm. Right. Right...
• 4:03
it was just kind of sitting out there, and it was offshore a little bit, so you actually had to get wet to get to it. Now that you can get to it real...
• 4:10
Well, and then Christmas time came, and people were putting, like, a little bit of decorations on it and stuff. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it got the aliens tag. All right. Well, it's n- that was kind of arty.
• 4:20
Mm-hmm. Not bad. Now it just looks like crap because whoever's tagging it is just, it's horrible. Amateur. Yeah. Yeah. Very bad stuff. Just- There's no art, art to it... no, there's no art to it at all. Sorry. Yeah.
• 4:31
I'm talking to you- Yeah... Deez Nuts. Whoever did that and didn't- Deez Nuts. Well, there's other, many others now. I know. Yeah. And it's just terrible. Unfortunate- But I-...
• 4:41
but true, 'cause it could have been a cool thing. Yeah. I mean, if w- Or it was a cool thing. Yeah. If there would be a- What's, what's the gossip? If there would be a Migz tag, I'd, I'd be, uh, maybe.
• 4:49
[laughs] Or maybe a Kit Curry. I, yeah, I'd [laughs] do- Kit Curry, I like too... I'd take, I'd take a Migz tag. Eh, Kit Curry. But Migz will do it- Kit Curry's good... on a clever thing. This was a little obvious.
• 4:57
But- But they're paying, like, 400 bucks a day- I-... the people that own that thing or- Don't think that's- It's, it's- Can't be true. Or they're being charged.
• 5:02
Oh, there was an interview on- I'm sure they're being charged... Charge. Yeah, you're right. They're not gonna pay it, but- Right. Oh, I can't believe...
• 5:08
And 400 bucks a day for, for 90 days is, you know- Lots of money... well, they've tried to get it off of the shore- Yeah, they can't... a few times. Yes. Yeah.
• 5:17
Just they're not getting the right equipment- At this stage-... in there... just thr- throw some chainsaws out there. I think just, uh- Just start chopping that thing out... just pour- Sawsalls...
• 5:24
pour concrete around it right out from shore- Pour-... and leave it as a- Poor communication... as a, as a- As a playground... as an art piece. Ah, that'd be art. Yeah. Yeah, that would be cool. It is art. Ish.
• 5:34
So I did, I got a somewhat of a picture today. I've got pictures of it in the past, but, uh, it was way too cold to take my gloves off for very long. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And of course, we went north from
• 5:46
McKinley to- towards Bradford and all that, and yeah, that was with the wind. That's nice. Oh, coming back was bad, huh? It was probably 10 or 12 miles an hour in the face, and so every, all the clothing worked well.
• 5:58
Thermogood's good. You know, uh, 32-degree tights and just Swrve pants were fine. And the only thing that I could've used was, I think I got the heated gloves a little small because they weren't really doing the job.
• 6:12
Oh, okay. I think they're a little tight on the finger. Okay. And then, uh, also goggles. I forgot my goggles. Oh. [laughs] Once you're into the wind, it's just like right in the, in, you know- It's icicles then...
• 6:21
Oh my God, I thought my eyeballs were gonna freeze. [laughs] I'm not even... Is that possible for eyeballs to freeze? I, I'm not sure. Sir? I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, somehow- Or get frostbite.
• 6:29
I don't- Frostball [laughs] Fr- Yeah... on, on your eyeballs. Frostbite. No. So otherwise it was, it was fun. Um,
• 6:37
I forgot that I hadn't put s- well, I was, I knew I hadn't put studs on the Chumba, which I was gonna do this morning, but I forgot I hadn't con- done the drivetrain yet either- Oh...
• 6:46
'cause I was switching it over to a box drivetrain, and that's not done either, and I wasn't gonna have time to do all that, so I just pulled out the Northpaw, which doesn't have studs.
• 6:57
Which was fine everywhere except on the ice. Dave was monkeying around out there, but it's pretty- No. [laughs] It's pretty glare, pretty glare.
• 7:05
I know, I- And it, and it's like kind of between basketball size and maybe baseball size little round chunks- No, I see... and they're ice. They're not- You're climbing, yeah.
• 7:14
You're- They're not, um, they're not sand, like impregnated ice. They're ice. Wow. Wow. So yeah, he was monkeying. It was... You know, he did some little chunks and stretches, but it was rough going.
• 7:25
I don't think I would've... I'm not in good enough shape to make that much effort to ride that kind of [laughs] stuff. Right. Yeah.
• 7:31
I saw the, uh, his post had the, the little, uh, map track kind of thing down the- Oh, yeah. That's kind of cool. I don't know if that's a Strava thing or something. No, it... Yeah, I can't remember. Mm.
• 7:40
Some other people have- Mm... this son of a gun. I, I don't, I use Ride with GPS now, so I don't know if the, they have- I just ride my bike... they have that fancy thing- Yeah... that you're talking about.
• 7:49
I mean, that's a little over the top. Uh, what's-his-face, Franzen had that I think for, uh, the- Franzen. Franzen... uh, Fatter by the Lake or one of those Zion Beach rides. Which incidentally is coming up.
• 8:00
I was just gonna say. Do tell us w- what you know about that. [laughs] It came up in my social media feeds. Uh, uh, coming out of, uh, Zion Cyclery again. Right. As far as I know. I believe it's- The 15th?
• 8:13
February 25 or 15. Or one five, and I'm- One of them... just filling the time before I see what I just saw there- I'll put it in the show notes. I'm... the 15th. The 15th of Fe- February... Fatter by the Lake.
• 8:26
So it's the week after the WMSC art- Right. That's true. That's coming up now that you have all your gorgeous art out here. We should be- Yeah... talking now about that coming up.
• 8:36
Is this, is it on, is it on- February 7th I believe it is. No, I mean is it online yet to eyeball? No, I already looked. It's not yet any... There's no- It's coming soon.
• 8:45
February 7th is the Arthur Music Festival and Auction. Yes. At the Princess Showboat. I think it goes a week before, doesn't it usually? At least. Uh, at least. 10 days? Yeah. Okay. Something like that.
• 8:55
I don't think it's that long ago. So for the event itself, hey, let's say I spent the money, and I went, "Uh, yeah." Is all the sh- food and whatever free, or are you paying? I don't know.
• 9:06
Since I'm a Guitar Smasher, I just walk in and eat. Yeah, I don't know. No. Do they have food? That's what I'm saying. I think there was snacks. Yeah, they have food trucks.
• 9:12
Yeah, I don't know that you- Or stuff is, like available... I don't think you get it for free though. You might get- No, food trucks aren't for free... I think you might get a ticket or two for drink... I don't remember.
• 9:19
For drinks, yeah. You get a couple of drinks. Okay, under- Yeah... just wondering, just wondering, just wondering. It's not a free-for-all, I'll tell you that much. All right. No, it's fancy.
• 9:25
They generate a lot of money at this. Oh, yeah. Well, if it was fancy, it'd be a free-for-all. Yeah, because you're not spend- [laughs]... you're, and you're not spending- No...
• 9:30
your, um, bid money on the art until after that night's already over. Right. So you don't even know- Mm-hmm... if you won. It closes at midnight. Well, you do. You do.
• 9:40
Well, you know you won the- If you're gonna stay till the very end. Right. But you don't know, I mean, they don't know if you won or not when you walk in the door, so they're not gonna say- Right...
• 9:46
"Oh, you won 8-" No, it's still going on... "You spent 800 bucks, so you're getting it free." The auction is- Right... which you can't because they don't know if you won or not. Yeah, right. That makes sense.
• 9:53
Because, no, the auction is going on during the time. As you're there. Yep, absolutely. Right. It's just a, it's just a chance to see the stuff in person instead of online.
• 10:00
And then you see, you know, 1820 and- 1920 1913. Oh, yeah, that through- 1913... that, that one. 1913. Victor. [laughs] 1256. I don't know. 611. [laughs] It was a funny interview on, uh- That's actually-...
• 10:13
Von Mundy if you can catch him... that's actually correct oddly enough. Oh. Wow, that thing's keeping good time. You know why? Digital clock. That's right. They got this- Trucker clock...
• 10:23
they, they got this technology- Is it like a trucker clock?... in there that makes it just keep going. It just knows. Trucker clock. We didn't, uh, we didn't talk about Uecker last week, did we? Who? Oh,
• 10:32
for fuck's sake. Bob Uecker. Just a bit off. Just a... Stop it. You never saw his, uh- Baseball... you never listened to- Wiener dog...
• 10:43
you never listened to his, uh, when he was announcing for the- He died the same day as David Lynch. I'll, I'll give David Lynch- He, uh, wait a second... way more props.
• 10:48
He, he ann- he announced for the UWM Panthers for like- Don't care... eight years. Care zero. And also- David Lynch... I don't know if this- No runs on one hit and no... One hit? One g- we, one goddamn hit?
• 11:02
Oh, wait, you can't say goddamn. [laughs] Ah, it doesn't matter. Nobody's listening. [laughs] That's like my favorite line of Major League. [laughs] Definitely, definitely Major League. I don't know.
• 11:11
I, this stat seems kind of weird, but I, and I haven't been able to verify it, but I read it somewhere, so it must be true. On the internet somewhere.
• 11:20
That, that he announced during his career 2.5% of all Major League games- Yeah... during his career. Sure. Yeah, yeah. Which is, like nobody's even close to that. No doubt, no doubt. Right? Yeah.
• 11:31
You know, was, has anybody even done 1% of all the games? Yeah. He was just- Yeah, it was like the Brewers- And- Like he- What's happened to his boat? He... What's that? I don't know. What's happened to his boat?
• 11:41
Maybe- It's, like parked always right by the-... kids again. Yeah. Does he have a lot of kids? I have no idea. He probably, does he know- He ended up starting with- I know he's got a daughter 'cause-...
• 11:48
the Brewers at the beginning of the Brewers. Oh. So he's as old as the fucking Brewers. He's old. And, yeah. He was. I mean- He's dead now... in, yeah, exactly[laughs] Right.
• 11:59
So he was a constant on- But the Brewers are still alive. They just sold out to Billy Hinds... on Johnny Car-, on fucking Johnny Carson, man, and he- Johnny loved him... he slayed it there, man.
• 12:05
And, you know, he had the opportunity to leave this city many times for more money at a bigger market, and he just loved Milwaukee. Yeah. You can't tell me you've never watched Mr. Belvedere. That's it.
• 12:14
That's why he lived in Minneapolis, why he lived in- We're not from around here... Men- Menomonee Falls... we're not from around here... Menomonee Falls It's still- Okay...
• 12:21
it's not Boston or San Francisco yet- We're not from around here... contrarian over there He, he lived in- No sir... Milwaukee County, I guess. Menomonee Falls is not Milwaukee County. Is it Waukesha County? Ah, figures.
• 12:32
Menomonee. Right? This is so fitting for my... I've, I'm done. Menomonee. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Michael, are you looking at the show notes over there? Yes. Can you... Have you been practicing that word?
• 12:44
Uh, I'm, I- We were... Weren't you over at the bar? Sharwood's, Sharwood's 125th. Quasi quincentennial? Quas quee- I'm not even- Yeah... I'm not even looking at it- All right... but I was trying to- Right. So it's-...
• 12:54
I was trying to remember it... Michael's, Michael's hometown now, Sharwood. Uh, quas- quasquicentennial. Quasquicentennial. There you go. 125th. Quasquicentennial. Quasquicentennial.
• 13:03
I mean, you just usually have those words. Quasquicentennial. That one. Boom. There we go. That's what we're talking about. Yeah. Sounds good. Sounds good. I tried it out. Yeah. No. I tried it out earlier. You did.
• 13:13
We were at- And I was trying to-... I heard him say it... and I was trying to do it off memory- Mm... which wasn't gonna work. [laughs] I still mulled facial hair- It was close enough... this image is frightening...
• 13:20
line, prop, right. All right. So, uh, Lunz and I, Puck, Dave, whatever you wanna call the guy, went out to Brazen Dropouts, uh- Saturday... bike swap in Madison- Nice... Saturday. Nice. That was nice.
• 13:32
I had to ride out in his Jeep. Ooh, how'd that go? I was like, 'cause... Well, it went fine. Was it bouncy? It want... It kind of has this thing where it goes like- It's got a bounce? It's got heat? It's got... Yeah.
• 13:41
Okay. Sort of. And it wasn't that cold out yet- Okay... on, uh, on Saturday. Uh, made our requisite Pine Cone stop so we keep our Wisconsin card. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? [laughs] Um, and uh- Bear Claw...
• 13:53
it was like 100 vendors. The place is huge. Mm-hmm. And, uh- Uh, what venue was it at? It was at Alliant in one of their- Hmm... exposition halls. Exhibition, exposition, either one. Either one. Suppository halls.
• 14:07
Um, so, uh, I got that nutcase helmet. [laughs] I tried, I try to figure out if they're still in business. It doesn't really look like it- I don't think they are... 'cause their website is...
• 14:18
I mean, that's, like, been around for a long time. Right. Right. And if you take that out of there, Tony- It's like the Evel Knievel one? It is. And my idea was... Oh yeah, and als- also, it came with this for free.
• 14:36
Whoa, the gala edition. Yeah. And, uh, he's like, "Yeah, there's a free gift for you if you wanna grab it." I'm like, "All right. Well, it's got Sharon Stone on the cover." Thing is, this is Sharon Stone's interview.
• 14:48
Oh, so she's not naked? Not- You're the clever-... not as naked as the last time she was in the magazine. [laughs] Oh, okay. I don't- Anyway... look at naked folks. I'll tell you what, it's like an 18-page interview.
• 14:58
They have some of the best writers, or did, in history, so you should read this if you can. Although I gotta be honest, some of these pages are sorta- Don't say sticky. Yep. Please don't say it. [laughs] Damn, dude.
• 15:11
So what'd you pay for this gorgeous out- 10 bucks? It's not how much I paid for it, it's who I paid for it for. Because if you'll recall, Michael had one of those helmets,
• 15:23
and why doesn't Michael have one of those helmets anymore? Do you recall this helmet? Did he crash in said helmet? Well, there- And there was that on the side of that h- that- Ooh... that helmet. So let's...
• 15:33
I get- Because there was that of that. I thought that's what that was. Well, I didn't know. So it was, you- It was the sequence. Yeah. It was the helmet that he was wearing- The beginning...
• 15:41
when he got the hardware in the shoulder- Well... on the, on the New Year's Day. Now you can fix it going the other way, I guess. Try it on for size. But so, like, here's the thing. There was, there was...
• 15:50
And but now we, now, now we need to listen to the rest of the story about why Michael doesn't have that helmet anymore. [laughs] Well, I still had it at the- For a while after that... for a while... after that, yeah.
• 16:03
But there was an episode where it went missing. Yes. There was a, uh, evening of drunken revelry- [laughs]... and whatever, and it was, at that time of life, this was 15 years ago. Right. And, uh, in my stupors,
• 16:20
I'll just- You were in, you were in your cups a little bit that night? I was in me cups a little bit, and I end up taking it out on a piece of equipment. Not so much on body anymore.
• 16:30
It was taking it out, like I'll just huck my fucking lock somewhere or just or huck my helmet and- You hucked your helmet. I hucked my helmet.
• 16:40
And where, how, where, [laughs] where did it end up that you couldn't get it back? I have no idea. It just, it went missing. It just, yeah. It's on a roof somewhere- [laughs]...
• 16:48
or it was until they scraped it off- So let's-... or something... let's see if it fits- Let's see... 'cause I'm curious.
• 16:53
It seems like it's got quite a, quite a range of size and, uh- Let's try it with- Try it with, try it with the chapeau. Oh. Oh, that looks to be l- lit perfect. Yeah, it fits nice for- Yeah. I j- Oh, yeah.
• 17:12
No, it, it, it's beautiful. It, it fits- Beautiful... really well. Shocking, dude. [laughs] But- And, um- That's wonderful. Well, I found it. Um, excuse me. Uh, what are you doing over there? Is that kind of involved?
• 17:27
Yeah. I could hear he just fine. [laughs] Or is the wilderness away? Not, not. Right on. I like it. I like it. So it does fit. All right. Speaking of hitting this ti- sending this... Part of the drunken revelry.
• 17:43
Throw that on the floor so it's- Okay. This- Not, not the helmet, but the box at least. Yeah. [laughs] But that was- Anyway, the point was if it, it... Yeah. [laughs] Right. It's already in a tree.
• 17:52
And it, and it's gone again. [laughs] We looked. Um, so anyway, it w- the, the idea was if it didn't actually fit Michael, it, somebody would be able to use it. Right. Right on. Right on.
• 18:02
For the $5 plus 10 bucks to get in, 10 bucks to park.... 20 bucks in gas to get out there because that's all I bought.
• 18:11
[laughs] [laughs] Um, Lunz did buy a couple bottom brackets and stuff, but, uh- Oh, and Lunz- I wasn't into spending money, and I really don't need anything, so. Mm-hmm. Uh, but anyway- He was also on that ride...
• 18:22
it's... Oh, was he on that ride where it got launched? Oh, no, no. Where the, uh- Where the crunch happened? Where the crunch happened. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 18:28
Because he, uh, uh- Yeah, that was a January 1st ride for sure. Yes, and that's when he, uh, was coming home, and, uh, uh, had an, had a, had an episode. Yes. Had an episode. So he- Okay.
• 18:42
I'm not gonna- Let me- He, he was gonna- Let, let, let me- He was gonna call in tonight, I know... let me, let me fast-forward the... Okay. I get the hardware in my, uh, clavicle, plate and seven screws. Doon. All right.
• 18:56
I'm on the mend, so the next [sighs] month, I wanna say middle of February- Hey, speaking of the devil. You finish your story though, 'cause he's on the line- [laughs]...
• 19:04
and we'll just, we're gonna go to him in just a second. And I'm still on my medications, which was a deadly cocktail of the narcotics, man, or the opioids. Ugh. Yeah. I hate that. I mean, it was pain management.
• 19:18
Yeah, it's still brutal. I'll, I'll give you that. But I, I'm a social animal, a social creature, so I had to get out back into the world. So I went to The Rascals. Oh.
• 19:26
And I, I, I figured out my tolerance was, like, one drink, and I'm just like, "And on timing. Okay, whatever." And sure as shit, who is it? Dave Fucking Lunz is at- [laughs]... the goddamn Rascals.
• 19:38
Yes, you can hear me on the hold- Yeah... line. [laughs] You hold on, Dave. We'll get to you in just a second. [laughs] I know he's scratching at the, at his old phone.
• 19:45
[scratching] [laughs] Show the scratch marks on your screen later. Um, [laughs] so he's recounting the tale of coming back [laughs] after I was in the ER, uh, for however many damn hours,
• 20:02
and, uh, had to stop to take a boom-boom,
• 20:07
but he didn't wanna leave his bike on the trail, so he took it down to go underneath a, a bridge to take a boom-boom, uh, but apparently slipped a little bit, and when he [laughs]- [laughs]...
• 20:19
well, he slipped and hit his- He went boom-booming [laughs]... yeah. When you, when you, when you're slipping, you gotta go, and you hit the button, you deploy. So apparently- He went boom-boom in his pants...
• 20:30
he sh- shat his pantaloons. [laughs] Oh, let's have him on and confirm this. And- And, and we'll bet- So he's telling me this, and I still have broken ribs, and I'm fucking dying while he's saying these things.
• 20:41
[laughs] And bring him on. There we go. [laughs] Uh, oh, you know what? It's not a touch screen. [laughs] Oh, good Lord. [laughs] Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Oh. [laughs] Hello?
• 20:57
Uh, hello? It's not a touch screen. Just push the button. Hello? Yeah. Did you hit mute? Yeah. I know you hit your- Dave, Dave, Dave Lunz... when you hit the screen. Dave Lunz, are you there? I don't hear him.
• 21:10
Did he touch the screen? Did you, did he touch that screen? Hang up and call back. You never know what happened here. I don't know. No, he's, uh, you should be... We should be hearing him. He's just screaming.
• 21:21
[laughs] Just bellowing into the phone right now. I don't know. [laughs] But that... Yeah. So he's yelling- I heard nothing...
• 21:28
or, yeah, he's just saying it, and, uh, and yes, the story was grand and whatever, but I'm sitting there with, like, three still-broken ribs, and so every laugh, every breath- Hurts like hell...
• 21:40
yeah, and he's making me laugh. And I'm just like- Sounds like Lunz... "Stop fucking talking. [laughs] Just stop speaking completely. [laughs] I'm falling apart here." Um, hello? Hello? Oh, there he is.
• 21:57
What were you doing, taking a dump or something? [laughs] Hello. He couldn't stop shitting. [laughs] No. You know you can bring the phone with you into the bathroom, right?
• 22:05
[laughs] Oh, that's how they drown a lot of them. No, I'm not. Could, could you hear, uh, could you hear JK's recount? I came time. Could you hear JK's recounting of the story? I did.
• 22:14
[laughs] Was it- It was completely accurate. Okay. [laughs] I was gonna say, man. [laughs] There's... [laughs] It's, it, it's... These are the w- th- the tales that are simple as hell because they're so fucking true.
• 22:26
[laughs] Because they're true. They're so true. [laughs] There needs to be no gilding the lily. I've had many years to recount it. [laughs] And they...
• 22:35
It, it- And, well, no, I was still in my, uh, Oxycontin-Percocet fog at that time with, like, a half of a j- a vodka tonic in me. [laughs] And they- Which will definitely take a Percocet/Oxycodone to another level.
• 22:49
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's why I don't do those things. [laughs] Well, that's why I don't- Anymore... well, that's why I don't w- do wholesale- I was all right... breaks of clavicles anymore either. Right on.
• 23:01
To necessitate- Ah... such a cocktail. Well, hell, e- e- even after my hip surgery, I was like, "Nah, I don't need your drugs.
• 23:07
Um, give me, give me some, uh, give, give me some of those, uh, what the hell, uh, blah, blah, blah, blah- " Ibuprofens... uh" Vicodin. Ibuprofens. "Ibuprofens, yes. Ibuprofens." Yeah. "800 milligram Ibuprofens."
• 23:20
Vicodin- "Well, you don't want narcotics?" I'm like, "No, I don't." [laughs] Vicodin, Vicodin is, is- And I'd rather not be that addicted to drugs... Vicodin would be the, the top shelf of, or the top layer- Until-...
• 23:30
of the opioid... you're on it for, like, a year and a half, and then- No. No, no, no, no... you, then you gotta jump it...
• 23:32
I mean, for actual- Those don't actually- For pain management, for the pain- Those don't actually do anything. I- Ibuprofen actually addresses the issue. [laughs] Oh.
• 23:41
Oxycontin just, like, tries to hide it w- with the dosage. Oh, yeah. Exactly, yeah. Right on. Yeah. I mean, give me sugar pills. Right. [laughs] So- Yeah. Yeah... how was, Dave, how was it? I mean- How was your-...
• 23:52
I, I, I had that, I had that one year... What? I was just gonna say, how was that ride for you today? It was good.
• 24:01
Uh, my toes were a little chilly at the end, but I, I wasn't wearing my wall hammer, so I, you know, I, I knew, I knew that was- You knew... gonna happen. [laughs] Right on.
• 24:11
Yeah, a little bit- Uh, but, no, it was good... a little bit of wind in the face. Yeah. Yeah, other than that Pretty good Yeah.
• 24:17
I, I, I stopped at the bar and had a couple mini pitchers and, um, a few shots, and now I'm home, so I'm good. Nice. Excellent. Yeah. What, what establishment is this? Or do you not want anyone to know?
• 24:31
I went to, uh, my, uh, my, my friend Reb's place, uh, Camp Karma, uh, which is kind of close to Suds, and, uh, much closer to my house. Fair enough.
• 24:43
Um, had a few beers and, uh, they gave me a half a, half a cheeseburger and some onion rings from the bartender, they didn't wanna finish it. I'm like, I'm like, "All right, fine, I'll eat your burger." Don't care.
• 24:53
I've been crushing calories all goddamn morning. [laughs] Right? Yeah. Gimme, gimme. [laughs] Right. Need fuel. Need fuel. Need fuel. I... Yeah, yeah, I, I was pretty hungry.
• 25:03
I'm like, "I have a salad at home, but I'll eat your half-eaten cheeseburger." [laughs] So- Attaboy... so I was wondering- But no, it was good... oh, boy. Here's something I was wondering. What?
• 25:14
Do you burn, do you burn more calories when it's cold out than when it's warm out for the same amount of distance or whatever, or effort or...? Hmm. Interesting. You think because your body- Yes...
• 25:23
is trying to keep warmer- I don't know... you might be, you know, like, it's, it's using more fuel because it's trying to- I think-... still keep you warm too... I would think initial startup might be slower, but then
• 25:34
duration traveled, I think you'd be better off in the cold. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Curious. Um, I, I, I wouldn't think I'm- Hey, actually that's physiological.
• 25:43
I think your body would try to regenerate- I, I, I wouldn't think I'd, um-... heat, which would burn more calories- Right... in the cold. Yeah. That's what I would think. That, that makes sense.
• 25:50
And that's my smart guy- That's my-... take on it... that's my supposition as well. Yeah. All right, Dan.
• 25:57
And my, my, my theory was is I, I, I have a few beers in me and I'm hungry as hell, so sure, I'll eat your half-eaten cheeseburger- [laughs]... 'cause I, I, I, I, I still have to drive six blocks home. [laughs] Um-
• 26:11
And I'm feeling a little lightheaded. I'm... [laughs] Yeah, that's right. Yeah. I, I, I'm drinking mini pitchers of fricking tap High Life, you know. I'm like, "Yeah, I need some b- Yeah... I need some food in me."
• 26:21
These are just slices of bread. I need actual sustenance, man. Sustenance. Sustenance. Yeah. I don't... Yeah. [laughs] But no, it was good. It was, it was good to get out. Um,
• 26:32
I, I went to the gym and sat on a spin bike f- last night, and, you know- I'm sorry... that is what it is. And- Hey. Sorry. He's getting ready- Yeah, no... for the Polar Roll up there.
• 26:41
Gotta get some fitness in before he goes- That's right. I, yeah... do the Polar Roll. That's right. Yeah, just nothing like- I, I, I went, did some weights-... fitness and a half-... around, and, uh-...
• 26:47
eaten bartendress' cheeseburger in your mouth. [laughs] That's right. Th- yeah, there's that too. Wow, she, she was like, "I, I'm just- Wait... gonna throw it away- Wait... if you don't eat it." I'm like- Wait...
• 26:59
"Oh, fuck you. Give it to me then." Yeah. Did, did- [laughs] I have to ask, Dave, did you drive to said spin class? I did. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I thought. He would have to. Yeah. It's out in- Yeah, whatever...
• 27:13
'cause it's in Waukesha or something... I, why, why, why wouldn't, why not ride the bike? Oh, Jesus Christ. Really? Why, why not ride my bike? No. Because it would make more sense- No, it-... but that's okay.
• 27:22
I understand- I, I, I go to-... you love Waukesha... I got to the w- uh- I would just say if you- I, I, like, my, my gym is, my, my gym's like 10 minutes away from my house. Um- My gym's like-... so I, but whatever...
• 27:31
as soon as I step outside my house I would say that if you were- Yeah, whatever... riding, riding the bike- I just gotta give you shit... to the gym- No, so I'm gonna have to natural metabolism-...
• 27:40
then you wouldn't need to ride your bike to the gym-... that, like, burning... if you're riding your bike. I get it. Right. Exactly. I don't have an actual- I, I, I- All right...
• 27:49
I, I, I threw some weights around too, so, you know. Oh, getting buff? It, it, it is what it is. Working out with Sam D. Um, but anyway, back to the beach today. Yeah, it, it was fun. Um,
• 28:02
we, we fucked up and went the wrong direction into the wind, and we had to head, head back. Oh, I- But it's... I, I, I think according to the Stravas,
• 28:12
which I'm sure you'll give me shit about too, but it, it was only like 2.34 miles. What's Strava? Um, it's some- one of those ride tracking apps. You know what it is. Oh, is that one? You know what it is. Dave. Pac.
• 28:27
Fuck. The, uh, [laughs] so, um- Yeah... the, uh, little- Yeah, it's, I use Strava... the, the, the aerial- Well, I, I-... aerial mappy thing. What was that? That's Strava. Oh, it is. Okay. Um- Oh, good on them. Strava.
• 28:41
Good on them. I, I- That's some, that's some- I, I-... nice tech... uh, yeah, it is kind of cool. I, I had to screen cap it from my phone- I think it was like-... the video cap.
• 28:51
Um- It, it looked like you were naked though... Mapbox or something like that, or Maptrack. I don't know. Somebody else had something similar to that. MapQuest? No. No. Alta Vista, baby? Um, [laughs]
• 29:04
but, uh, it, it, it's cool. It's considered some bonds. Um, I, I, I tracked my workouts on it just for the fun of it. Um,
• 29:11
I, I, I used to make a map for the, uh, Bikes, Boats and Goats 25 coming up, so, you know, there's that, you know. Um- Is that like a month? I thought you sh- What?... you scheduled it for like a month out.
• 29:21
[laughs] Was it like 28 days? No, um, I scheduled it for 10 days- Wow... but the middle of, uh, middle of July. Ah, okay.
• 29:36
We- I, I'll have you g- I'll, I'll have you guys home in time for the River Oaks 24. [laughs] Um, but we're- What's, what's that?
• 29:45
Uh, I, I, I scheduled to set sail on, uh, July 10th, which is a full moon, so we can float across Lake Michigan with a full moon, and I have plenty of fun candy bars from Sam D, uh, stocked up and, um- [laughs]...
• 30:00
for the, the overnight trip across with a full moon. Hopefully with, uh, good weather, we should be able to float across Lake Michigan and enjoy a full moon- That would be-... and other things... sweet.
• 30:13
You can't float- Yeah, that's, um-... across Lake Michigan though, can you? In a boat you can. Well, you're motorized then. In a boat you can.
• 30:20
[laughs] You're floating still Ah, all right, whatever Okay, physics guy In, in, in, in coal fire, i- in, in the last coal-fired cargo ship, uh, ferry in the- I thought that was gone... North America you've been.
• 30:34
[laughs] I thought that was guns. Nope. No- No cargo... you're incorrect, sir. Wow. Uh, did they, they, they, they had to shut down last year for a while 'cause, well, their dock in Ludington got, uh, jo- all joed up.
• 30:46
Ah. Uh, but my buddy's ironworker company got them back up and running, so they're, um, yeah, they're go- they're going again. Awesome. Cool. Um, but it, it is the last, uh, coal-fired cargo ship, uh, ferry- Ferry...
• 31:00
operating in the Americas, I believe. Wow. Yeah. It's a pretty sweet, it's a pretty sweet ride. That's, yeah, that, that's fun. And it goes at a stately pa- It, uh, uh- It goes at a stately pace too.
• 31:10
It doesn't try to- Yeah... race across like the- Yeah... Lake Express. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is, it is relaxing cruise. Yeah. Yeah. You can do it once. Yeah, it's like five hours, I think. Yeah.
• 31:17
It's, well, yeah, it was, uh- Um- It was about, it was four, four whiskey and Cokes- [laughs] I wrote-... that they had at their bar [laughs] I, I, I always did, um- It was nice...
• 31:32
I always did High Life's and Oberon's, and, um, we, we switched over to Oberon somewhere around the, uh, international border. Right. [laughs] Yeah, there's something else. Um, you know.
• 31:41
[laughs] 'Cause we're entering Michigan, so it's like time, time to start drinking Oberon. With, with the great country of Michigan. [laughs] Yeah, right. That's right.
• 31:48
That, that international border between Wisconsin and Michigan. Well, yeah. You know what? It's the border line- That's right. Yeah, our international line... between, uh, uh, the 51st state now.
• 31:56
Yeah, to be fair, we're giving Michigan to someone and we're getting Canada in exchange. Is that how it's working? Yeah, so we still only have 50 states. Oh, that's right. Um, yeah. This guy's Gulf of America.
• 32:04
Oh, we take, no, we take, yeah, we'll take the U. So, so, so- We take the U part and then- [laughs] The U... we take the U part- Uh, but no, yeah, I, I've never-... and then they take the Michigan part. Oh, right on.
• 32:16
That makes sense. Yeah. I, I've never done the Badger. Just for symmetry. We've done the, um- It's about the balance. Yeah. We, we, we, well, we've done the, um, Lake Express, what,
• 32:26
five or six times easily now, but yeah, I've never done the Badger. So I, I definitely wanna do the Badger. Yeah, that's cool. Right on. And, and, and, and overnight with, with, with candy bars. [laughs] Gotcha.
• 32:40
Badger, Badger. All right. Because Tony's badgering you- A- a- and a full moon, July 10th. Badger, badger... July 10th, full moon. Copy. All right. We're gonna get going here 'cause, uh- Yeah... we gotta get going now.
• 32:49
He, he might be in Portugal. Uh- All right, man. Good to, uh, good time riding with you today, and, um- Yeah, man... we will talk, um, all- I think-... the way coming up to the ride- Yeah... in, uh, summertime. Yeah.
• 33:02
Beach ride coming up this weekend even maybe, so. All right. Bye. Oh, there's the... Okay, bye. Bye. Bye. I love you. All right. Dave Fucking Lunz, everybody. Dave Fucking Lunz.
• 33:14
Uh, I don't know what's going on with that technical, whatever. Yeah, so it was, it was, uh, you know. It was weird. It worked out all right. It, it, yeah. Hey, you know what else happened is we made show 289- Nine...
• 33:25
this, this time. Nine times. Nine times. Nine. Uh, Iowa Bike- How many listeners do we have? Iowa- Is it, like, 12? Iowa Bike Expo's coming up this weekend if you happen to be in Iowa, in Des Moines.
• 33:36
That should be kind of a fun thing. No, it's not. No. It's more. It's, like, 14. Oh- No, it's more. [laughs]... out of curiosity- No, we're doing all right. Yeah. I, I- Someone asked us tonight, and I'm like, "12?"
• 33:48
I- No. I've tried to, I, I looked it up- More... um, but, uh, we're approaching the time that Frosty Hog would occur. Hog. But I have not seen anything out of Social or Cycling. It'll be somewhere in February.
• 34:00
In normal, yeah, it's end of this month into February. I believe it's because they haven't even seen a speck of snow- Right, right... so they're like, "Why would we plan something when there's no snow?"
• 34:09
They're like, quarter inch tomorrow. What the hell? Well, just so we can tear up some grass. Somebody, I can't remember who it was, somebody, I think it, oh, it could've been, uh, Strongman Sam talking to Daves What.
• 34:21
Daves What. Daves What. Daves What. Daves What. There's also some movement afoot to ride across Winnebago again because- Uh... conditions seem to be- It's getting cold... pretty good. I mean, yeah.
• 34:31
It's been cold enough for a long time up there. Yeah. Yeah, it is. 'Cause it just has to be cold at night. Yeah. All right, everybody. Easy ride. I think if I push this button, we can- [laughs]...
• 34:40
get the hell out of here. Go into- Yeah. [laughs] Watch out, we're going into Narnia now.
• 34:44
  [upbeat rock music]
