- 0:03Speaker 1: Aj Ramo sits here. How we doing, Aj, it's been
- 0:05Speaker 1: a minute, man.
- 0:06Speaker 2: You're doing great, man, Yeah, thanks for having me. It's
- 0:09Speaker 2: been a while, but doing great. I'm back in Texas.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I moved back here in Texas. I'm not in Arizona anymore,
- 0:16Speaker 2: so back here around family. Uh So it's been a
- 0:19Speaker 2: great transition so far.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Well give me everything you got on Joshua Biez from
- 0:24Speaker 1: the weekend, and then Krats will chime in, how crazy
- 0:27Speaker 1: was that? We've never seen it before? First three abs,
- 0:29Speaker 1: welcome to the big leagues, like nobody's ever done it.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that was really cool to see.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And Oliver Maml's take on it where he's like that
- 0:39Speaker 2: smile of looking in the dugout like he's happy to
- 0:42Speaker 2: be here and like he deserves to be here, that
- 0:45Speaker 2: type of confidence, and for him to go out there
- 0:48Speaker 2: and against a great pitcher in Boyd as well, he's
- 0:51Speaker 2: been doing well, so for him to be able to
- 0:52Speaker 2: go out there and slow the game down, I know,
- 0:55Speaker 2: like a lot of times when it's your first game,
- 0:57Speaker 2: it seems like everything's moving really fast and you're trying
- 1:01Speaker 2: to make it as compared to the minor leagues, as
- 1:04Speaker 2: most as possible to get some sort of like get
- 1:07Speaker 2: your feet under your the on the ground basically because
- 1:10Speaker 2: you feel like you're floating. And so for him to
- 1:12Speaker 2: slow down the ball game and hit those three homers,
- 1:14Speaker 2: the first one on the first pitch. The next one
- 1:16Speaker 2: was like on a two, he was down, oh two,
- 1:18Speaker 2: came back and then boy tried to backdoor a slider
- 1:21Speaker 2: to do something different to like, all right, this guy's
- 1:23Speaker 2: had seen me very well, hits the opposite field home run.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean, it was amazing to see and it was
- 1:29Speaker 2: also really cool to see the Chicago fans give him
- 1:32Speaker 2: a standing ovation basically when he was coming off the
- 1:35Speaker 2: field after he lined out.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Uh, so that was a really.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Cool I mean, I wouldn't expect anything different from a
- 1:41Speaker 2: baseball fan. Uh people in Chicago that know baseball and
- 1:47Speaker 2: love to see what even an opposing player was doing.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Yeah, anytime you get win this history, that's pretty sick.
- 1:53Speaker 4: And dudes are making his debut hits three homers. I
- 1:56Speaker 4: think everybody thinks that's what they're gonna do when they
- 1:58Speaker 4: make it to the big leagues. But the advice I
- 2:00Speaker 4: ever got and I ever give to anybody about their
- 2:03Speaker 4: big league debut is do what is comfortable to you.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And fortunately for me as a catcher, I go out
- 2:09Speaker 4: there warm the pitcher up before the game. We walk
- 2:12Speaker 4: in all that stuff. You know, what's comfortable for Joshua
- 2:14Speaker 4: Bias hitting dingers. The dudes got thirty four in the
- 2:17Speaker 4: bushes already. And then he puts and then he goes
- 2:20Speaker 4: out there. First pitch, He's like, why not? And that ball,
- 2:23Speaker 4: like yes, oppo anytime is impressive. Three homers is impressive.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Where that first one went to center was deep sauce.
- 2:32Speaker 4: So he's been hitting dingers and he's like, oh, I
- 2:34Speaker 4: might as well keep hitting dingers.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not like he's been talked about as
- 2:42Speaker 1: the next big thing in the sport for years. It
- 2:44Speaker 1: actually took him five years and the miners. We're looking
- 2:47Speaker 1: at the reaction right now from his minor league teammates,
- 2:51Speaker 1: the Memphis Redbirds watching it live, freaking out in the clubhouse.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That's the Triple A affiliate of the Cardinals, and that's
- 2:59Speaker 1: where he was small and homers all year. I will
- 3:01Speaker 1: say this too, Kratz. Jim Boden, our resident general manager
- 3:04Speaker 1: here on FT, has been calling for the Cardinals to
- 3:07Speaker 1: call him up all year. In fact, going back to
- 3:10Speaker 1: spring training, he thought that he should have been called
- 3:12Speaker 1: up by the Cards, and then just recently JB was
- 3:15Speaker 1: mentioning how maybe the Cardinals would be in the thick
- 3:19Speaker 1: of the wild card race, you know, even more so,
- 3:21Speaker 1: even closer if he was there. I know, you can't
- 3:24Speaker 1: look back at that, and some people are looking at
- 3:25Speaker 1: him from the weekend like wait, what we're we waiting for? Well,
- 3:29Speaker 1: he did have a high strikeout rate in the minor
- 3:32Speaker 1: leagues for years, and it went down a little bit
- 3:34Speaker 1: last year and then ticked back up again this year.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But I mean, sometimes you got to look at a
- 3:37Speaker 1: guy and just say he is what he is, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: hopefully he'll continue to improve on pitch selection and chasing
- 3:42Speaker 1: outside the zone. It's also okay to have some guys
- 3:45Speaker 1: that are high swing and miss and just going to
- 3:47Speaker 1: hit a ton of homers.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's a nice young core for the Cardinals scrats, but
- 3:51Speaker 1: he might be the guy that's capable of hitting forty
- 3:53Speaker 1: to fifty and have a little more swing and miss
- 3:55Speaker 1: than some of the other guys that are going to
- 3:57Speaker 1: be part of that core for a while. Alec burrows In,
- 4:00Speaker 1: Jordan Walker, Mason Win, JJ weatherhole.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Like the league adjusts. The league will always adjust, and
- 4:09Speaker 4: you have to adjust back. So for some reason the
- 4:11Speaker 4: Cardinals said, nah, you're not ready. Maybe it was you know,
- 4:16Speaker 4: he only had twenty homers last year in the bushes
- 4:18Speaker 4: in the same amount of at bat So you got
- 4:20Speaker 4: to go out and you gotta continue to produce. Yes,
- 4:24Speaker 4: but there's no better way. We always said, like if
- 4:27Speaker 4: you got called up for one day. We always talked
- 4:29Speaker 4: about this in the bushes. You got called up for
- 4:32Speaker 4: one day and they said, sorry, it's only going to
- 4:34Speaker 4: be one day. What do you have to do that
- 4:37Speaker 4: day to make sure you stay for a second day?
- 4:41Speaker 4: Three homers?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Is it?
- 4:42Speaker 4: Three homers? I think definitely gets you more. And it's
- 4:44Speaker 4: going to give him a ton of looks here like
- 4:46Speaker 4: they don't have. They got rid of Newt bar in
- 4:50Speaker 4: the outfield. If he can play admirably out there and
- 4:54Speaker 4: he can give you twenty five homers in the big leagues,
- 4:58Speaker 4: that's a lot of home runs actually for a Cardinals
- 5:00Speaker 4: team that I think can continue to use what they
- 5:04Speaker 4: have in the farm system and hopefully they can add
- 5:07Speaker 4: some pitching in the offseason.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they might be a playoff contender again next year.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I know they're not completely out of it yet, but
- 5:15Speaker 1: this is not a total scrap it all down rebuilt situation.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They've already had some nice pieces in place, and it
- 5:21Speaker 1: looks like they'll continue to add to that. You're not
- 5:23Speaker 1: feeling innocrats if they pick up some arms in the offseason.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is a very him Bloom team.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Hem Bloom's fingerprint is on this, having hired not fired
- 5:34Speaker 4: a bunch of people in the minor leagues last year
- 5:36Speaker 4: before he became a GM, And you're kind of seeing
- 5:39Speaker 4: the same thing that happened in Boston a few years
- 5:44Speaker 4: ago when he was at the Helm, that's now happening
- 5:47Speaker 4: in Saint Louis. It's not his guys, but it's more
- 5:50Speaker 4: of that mentality, belief in the guys in the system
- 5:54Speaker 4: and giving those guys opportunities. And here they go again.
- 5:58Speaker 4: So will they make a move? You know what Cardinals
- 6:02Speaker 4: ownership I think is like the fourth richest ownership in
- 6:05Speaker 4: Major League Baseball? Do they want to pay for pitching?
- 6:08Speaker 4: Who knows? They never really paid for pitching before. But
- 6:11Speaker 4: they also had Yati here Molina, and he made average
- 6:15Speaker 4: pitching really good and really good pitching fringe Hall of Famers.
- 6:20Speaker 1: M hm oh the quote. Yeah, let's finish with this. So,
- 6:28Speaker 1: first of all, yes, props to the Wrigley Field crowd.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But Bias said, I had a be that was with
- 6:34Speaker 1: me every single inning in the outfield. I found it strange.
- 6:37Speaker 3: At first.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I was a bit scared, but then I kind of
- 6:38Speaker 1: let it go and I knew that it was going.
- 6:40Speaker 3: It wasn't going to sting me.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I kind of took that as if he was the
- 6:43Speaker 1: bee talking about his late father, right, because it was
- 6:46Speaker 1: right on me every single inning and just talking about
- 6:49Speaker 1: how he knows he's super proud and that he's with
- 6:51Speaker 1: him in spirit.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a really cool thing.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And I feel like when you lose someone like that,
- 7:01Speaker 2: you kind of look for things to kind of show
- 7:04Speaker 2: that they're watching there around and for a b to
- 7:07Speaker 2: be hanging around him and in the outfut he said,
- 7:09Speaker 2: there's been nothing like that. He's never had any animals.
- 7:11Speaker 2: He's not snow white wherever. All the animals come to him.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So to have that type of moment and to be
- 7:18Speaker 2: that be around him the whole game, I bet was
- 7:21Speaker 2: a special moment because that was a promise to his
- 7:24Speaker 2: dad to make it to the big leagues, and he
- 7:28Speaker 2: delivered on that promise and also hit three homers. And
- 7:31Speaker 2: so it was one of those things where I can
- 7:33Speaker 2: imagine he felt his presence and maybe that Bee was him.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I'm not going to tell someone that it was or not,
- 7:40Speaker 2: but it was. It was a really cool moment for
- 7:42Speaker 2: that he shared to give a little insight into the
- 7:45Speaker 2: human behind the machine that people try to make it
- 7:48Speaker 2: for baseball players.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, the spiritual answer after the game from Bias an
- 7:54Speaker 1: out of this world experience, even to view I mean
- 7:57Speaker 1: people saying it was the craziest experience they've seen. Somebody
- 8:00Speaker 1: come up to the show and hit three homers in
- 8:02Speaker 1: their first three abs. We've never seen it before. Hey,
- 8:07Speaker 1: for those of you that are on your phones very often,
- 8:09Speaker 1: or even if you don't use it much, you should
- 8:12Speaker 1: check out your wireless bill and make sure that it
- 8:14Speaker 1: is treating you well. It's summertime, you're feeling good, right,
- 8:17Speaker 1: aj But are you spending too much on your wireless bill?
- 8:21Speaker 1: And should mint Mobile get involved?
- 8:23Speaker 3: Now?
- 8:23Speaker 5: Some of them has two college aged kids got They
- 8:25Speaker 5: are always on their phone, whether it's they're checking their snap,
- 8:28Speaker 5: they're checking their DMS, they're checking their Twitter. I need
- 8:32Speaker 5: fifteen dollars a month because I need unlimited quality coverage
- 8:35Speaker 5: that mintmobile provides.
- 8:36Speaker 1: They get that new wireless plan for just fifteen bucks
- 8:38Speaker 1: a month. Go to mintmobile dot com slash territory. That's
- 8:41Speaker 1: mintmobile dot com slash territory. Cut your wireless bill to
- 8:44Speaker 1: fifteen dollars a month at mintmobile dot com slash territory.
- 8:47Speaker 3: That's it.
- 8:48Speaker 1: No catch upfront payment of forty five dollars for three months,
- 8:51Speaker 1: ninety dollars for six months, or one hundred eighty dollars
- 8:53Speaker 1: for twelve month. Plan required fifteen dollars per month equivalent
- 8:55Speaker 1: taxes and fees extra initial plan term only greater than
- 8:58Speaker 1: fifty gigabytes may slow when network is busy. He includes
- 9:00Speaker 1: up to twenty gigabyte hotspot capable device required availability, speed
- 9:04Speaker 1: and coverage barriers mobile dot com.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Obviously, Joshua Bias is not going to hit three homers
- 9:09Speaker 6: in every game, and obviously he won't strike out three
- 9:11Speaker 6: times in every game like he did on Sunday. We
- 9:13Speaker 6: saw the bet, the good and the bad of Joshua
- 9:15Speaker 6: Bias this weekend, But as we go forward, I think
- 9:20Speaker 6: what you are going to see is a little bit
- 9:22Speaker 6: of both. Bias is a legitimate slugger, but at the
- 9:25Speaker 6: same time, he's probably at his best when he's not
- 9:27Speaker 6: drawing the home runs. When his swing gets a little
- 9:30Speaker 6: bit more level, he does hit for average much more,
- 9:33Speaker 6: makes more contact. But it's kind of that balance of
- 9:36Speaker 6: how much do you want to go for the power
- 9:37Speaker 6: versus how much do you want to make contact. Bias
- 9:41Speaker 6: is always going to be on a little bit on
- 9:42Speaker 6: the balance beam of that of just at that edge
- 9:46Speaker 6: of a strikeout rate that that won't work, or maybe
- 9:49Speaker 6: it will, especially if he's hitting for power. I think
- 9:51Speaker 6: the key thing for him is that there is some athleticism,
- 9:54Speaker 6: some straight line speed here as well, and so unlike
- 9:57Speaker 6: a lot of these sluggers we've seen in recent years
- 9:59Speaker 6: who have big numbers and the miners but don't stick around,
- 10:01Speaker 6: you can legitimately play in a corner outfield spot. That's
- 10:04Speaker 6: a much better profile than being a first baseman with
- 10:07Speaker 6: this kind of profile. So we'll see that for Joshua
- 10:10Speaker 6: Bias going forward for the Cardinals.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That's JJ Cooper from Baseball America on Joshua o By
- 10:17Speaker 1: as any other thoughts from that guy's While we have
- 10:18Speaker 1: like forty five seconds go.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Ahead, chriss Oh, I was just gonna say, just the
- 10:26Speaker 4: strikeouts to me, there's different types of strikeouts we had
- 10:31Speaker 4: Andrew Fisher on earlier, and sometimes in development you can
- 10:35Speaker 4: strike out, but hey, you know what you're looking for
- 10:38Speaker 4: a certain pitch, things that will help you develop to
- 10:41Speaker 4: be a better big league hitter. So hopefully those are
- 10:45Speaker 4: the things that they worked on in the minor leagues
- 10:47Speaker 4: with him, and five years as a high school kid,
- 10:50Speaker 4: it's not that long to make it to the big leagues,
- 10:51Speaker 4: like he was moving at a good pace.
- 11:02Speaker 1: A lot to dig into here, aj, what do you
- 11:04Speaker 1: think of the Brewers winning the season series against the
- 11:07Speaker 1: Dodgers that'll give him a tiebreaker in case there's anything
- 11:09Speaker 1: dicey with home field advantage or even a bye heading
- 11:13Speaker 1: into the postseason. The Brewers outmatched the Dodgers. The Dodgers
- 11:17Speaker 1: are going through one of their stretches right now where
- 11:18Speaker 1: a lot of things don't look great. Bullpen looks shaky,
- 11:21Speaker 1: blow up average offensive production for the past month plus.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They're figuring out what their rotation is going to look like.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Guys are coming back, Snell, Glaston should be back soon.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Let's start with the Brewers, though Logan Henderson showed up,
- 11:34Speaker 1: the offense showed up. They did lose Abnuary Rebay on Friday,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Il stint for Game two, but overall, this Brewers team
- 11:41Speaker 1: punched at the Dodgers just like they did last regular season.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Do you believe this could be an indicator of anything
- 11:47Speaker 1: for the playoffs or it doesn't teach you much yet?
- 11:51Speaker 3: I think it teaches you a little bit.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I liked the way that Misarowski pitched against a team
- 11:57Speaker 2: and the Dodgers. I feel like that's comfort to know
- 12:00Speaker 2: that you know he's been pitching well all season.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But when you're in.
- 12:03Speaker 2: These situations where it's a big series, it's a tiebreaker.
- 12:08Speaker 2: If you win the series, you have the season series
- 12:10Speaker 2: on lock, and that can be big when you're talking
- 12:13Speaker 2: about having home field advantage in the playoffs.
- 12:15Speaker 3: So the way that he pitched was amazing.
- 12:17Speaker 2: The way that the Brewers basically came together and really
- 12:22Speaker 2: started to play well against a struggling Dodgers team right now,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but it tells you a little bit. But the biggest
- 12:29Speaker 2: thing is they won the most games.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Last year or a couple of years ago, whatever it was.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And they didn't make it that deep into the playoffs,
- 12:36Speaker 2: so I want to see more of this when it
- 12:39Speaker 2: really counts, which is in the playoffs. The Dodgers right
- 12:42Speaker 2: now are going through one of those type of stretches
- 12:44Speaker 2: where you know it's their downtime. But I'm always looking
- 12:48Speaker 2: for trends and when teams go down, how much time
- 12:51Speaker 2: do they have to go up? And when they go up, is.
- 12:53Speaker 3: It closer to the playoff time, because that's where you
- 12:55Speaker 3: need to be the hottest.
- 12:56Speaker 2: The Brewers have been steady. They just got off that
- 12:58Speaker 2: seventeen game in a row streak. They went ten and seven,
- 13:02Speaker 2: I believe, or yeah, ten and seven, So that's something
- 13:05Speaker 2: that it was a grind to cap it off beating
- 13:08Speaker 2: the Dodgers. Can definitely build some more momentum into that
- 13:11Speaker 2: off day, into the next series and then continue on
- 13:14Speaker 2: this nice little run that they're on. Then try to
- 13:16Speaker 2: figure out how do we go deep into the playoffs
- 13:19Speaker 2: and just refine that whole process so that they can
- 13:23Speaker 2: achieve expectations.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Now, they did go to the National League Championship Series
- 13:27Speaker 4: last year they lost to the Dodgers, so it's kind
- 13:30Speaker 4: of deep into the playoffs, but they only played one
- 13:32Speaker 4: series before that, and I think that really is what
- 13:36Speaker 4: the Dodgers want. The Dodgers want that buy and this series,
- 13:40Speaker 4: while yes, the home field advantage, all that stuff, were
- 13:44Speaker 4: set up to be exactly where we were last year.
- 13:46Speaker 4: The Brewers swept the season series from the Dodgers. The
- 13:51Speaker 4: reality is what can they learn from this series that
- 13:54Speaker 4: they can take into the playoffs, because most likely you're
- 13:59Speaker 4: going to face the Dodgers at some point. Maybe they don't,
- 14:01Speaker 4: maybe somebody knocks them off before they get to the Brewers.
- 14:05Speaker 4: But I think the Brewers, if they needed any confidence,
- 14:07Speaker 4: they gained it from this and they gained it from
- 14:10Speaker 4: this series. But I don't think they need confidence. To me,
- 14:14Speaker 4: I would have figured out a way if I was
- 14:15Speaker 4: the Brewers to possibly, you know, maybe bump miss maybe
- 14:20Speaker 4: bump Logan Henderson, the two guys that you're going to
- 14:23Speaker 4: be throwing against the Dodgers, because the Dodgers are a
- 14:26Speaker 4: veteran team and that lineup learns Okay, we've seen missus fastball,
- 14:31Speaker 4: We've seen that we have to swing two balls above.
- 14:35Speaker 4: We've seen that we have to make these adjustments. And
- 14:38Speaker 4: with the Dodgers, to me, I think the whole Tucker
- 14:43Speaker 4: I think he went hitless for the entire homestand I
- 14:46Speaker 4: think there's questions that they need to ask there it is.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Alden Gonzalez tweeted, Kyle Tucker is zero for nineteen on
- 14:53Speaker 4: his home stand and is slashing nine, two eighty six
- 14:57Speaker 4: and two seventy two at Dodgers Stadium this year. Do
- 15:00Speaker 4: you think Dave Roberts, who won a World Series with
- 15:05Speaker 4: all bullpen and not much starting pitching and then the
- 15:09Speaker 4: next year won a World Series with all starting pitching
- 15:12Speaker 4: and not much bullpen, is not evaluating You think he's
- 15:17Speaker 4: not seeing what you know, seeing what's going on out there. No,
- 15:21Speaker 4: he's doing it every single day. He knows what these
- 15:25Speaker 4: guys can and can't do. And I think Tucker those
- 15:30Speaker 4: numbers at Dodger Stadium, something's going on. Does he not
- 15:34Speaker 4: feel comfortable where he stays? Does he not see the ball?
- 15:37Speaker 3: Well?
- 15:39Speaker 4: I don't think it's too much pressure. I mean, the
- 15:41Speaker 4: dude's been a big leader for a long time. But
- 15:43Speaker 4: those numbers. I don't think Dave Roberts is afraid of
- 15:46Speaker 4: making the big moves that the team needs. And if
- 15:49Speaker 4: he doesn't turn it around, what kind of adjustments does
- 15:52Speaker 4: Dave make when we get to the postseason.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I mean, this is the highest paid single season I
- 15:59Speaker 1: think in in baseball history, right.
- 16:02Speaker 4: And salary and value because technically technically show haze higher.
- 16:09Speaker 4: But then because of it's this, I mean, because this
- 16:12Speaker 4: one's no, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Is it?
- 16:15Speaker 4: Is it eighty this year? But with the luxury tax
- 16:18Speaker 4: it's something like one to eighteen.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah, how much it costs them on the luxury tax
- 16:23Speaker 1: is nut. And also for Otani, I mean, we we've
- 16:26Speaker 1: done enough education on this show. Deferrals value present value,
- 16:30Speaker 1: it's not even close. Okay, So it's a four year,
- 16:33Speaker 1: two hundred and forty million dollar contract, it's a sixty
- 16:36Speaker 1: four million dollars signing bonus, and then a one million
- 16:39Speaker 1: dollar salary fifty four million dollars up front. Get confused
- 16:43Speaker 1: here ready, I'm going to keep going thirty million deferred
- 16:45Speaker 1: in each of the last three seasons, and then he's
- 16:48Speaker 1: got the opt outs after year two and year three
- 16:51Speaker 1: net present value. This is the number we're looking for,
- 16:54Speaker 1: because that's where Otani's number is much lower than the
- 16:58Speaker 1: seventy that it looks like, which is a fake number.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Fifty seven million dollars a year for Kyle Tucker which
- 17:04Speaker 1: beats Juan Sota's record by over six million dollars. That
- 17:08Speaker 1: is not including how much it costs the Dodgers in
- 17:10Speaker 1: luxury tax, which is at least double that number. So
- 17:12Speaker 1: we're talking about, yes, about one hundred and what fourteen
- 17:16Speaker 1: million something like that, maybe a little bit more in
- 17:19Speaker 1: terms of how much he costs the Dodgers just for
- 17:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. And those are the home numbers. Those
- 17:26Speaker 1: home numbers I think are the worst in baseball. So
- 17:28Speaker 1: it gets interesting when we get to October. He's not
- 17:31Speaker 1: hitting at home and your doc and you can't even
- 17:33Speaker 1: figure out a reason for it. It doesn't matter if
- 17:35Speaker 1: he's not producing at home or if he's not producing period.
- 17:38Speaker 1: They're not going to play him. They don't care.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's been tough, man, It's been really tough
- 17:45Speaker 2: for Cole Tucker, and also Kyle Tucker.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Kyle Yeah, yeah, Kyle Tucker. And even him dropping that
- 17:51Speaker 3: pop up the other day.
- 17:52Speaker 2: It just doesn't look good, even though it was in
- 17:54Speaker 2: the sun. It's a tough one. It just doesn't look good.
- 17:56Speaker 2: But other than that's that's the other thing I was
- 17:58Speaker 2: gonna say, Other than Kyle Tucker, Otani Freeman bets those
- 18:04Speaker 2: guys haven't been producing either.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Those are the core pieces of your lineup that haven't
- 18:08Speaker 3: been producing.
- 18:09Speaker 2: So yes, it's you know, Kyle Tucker has been struggling
- 18:14Speaker 2: and who knows why it definitely needs to figure it.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They need to do something to figure that out, because
- 18:19Speaker 2: once he gets going, that makes that line up people
- 18:21Speaker 2: more deadly. But the guy, the their core pieces have
- 18:25Speaker 2: to get going as well.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Along with Edwin Diaz.
- 18:29Speaker 2: He had a little bit better outing last outing, and
- 18:32Speaker 2: but his velocity is two miles an hour down of
- 18:34Speaker 2: what it was before. So I imagine some of that is
- 18:37Speaker 2: coming back from the injury, and so it takes a
- 18:40Speaker 2: little bit to get comfortable on the mound. And I'm
- 18:42Speaker 2: sure that a lot of these guys are tinkering with
- 18:44Speaker 2: certain things because the Dodgers are the best at being
- 18:47Speaker 2: able to get to maximize your stuff. So some of
- 18:50Speaker 2: those tweaks, even though they can result in really good endings,
- 18:54Speaker 2: getting to that ending sometimes takes a little bit of time.
- 18:57Speaker 2: And for Tucker, he hasn't seemed to figure hit that switch.
- 19:00Speaker 2: So at this point, I don't know, you know, Kratzy,
- 19:03Speaker 2: it could be one of those things where it's like
- 19:04Speaker 2: all right, Do I switch back to the old version
- 19:07Speaker 2: of myself or keep going with this because at the
- 19:09Speaker 2: end of last year with the Cubs, he also wasn't producing,
- 19:12Speaker 2: So it's it's a mysterious thing. But the Dodgers are
- 19:16Speaker 2: going to have to figure it out if they want
- 19:17Speaker 2: to go back to a three, if they want to
- 19:19Speaker 2: win a three.
- 19:19Speaker 4: P Yeah, I mean they need all those pieces. People
- 19:22Speaker 4: are gonna complain, Ah, they pay for all these guys.
- 19:25Speaker 4: They should they should be like, this is where their
- 19:27Speaker 4: depth will come into play if Doc really is willing
- 19:31Speaker 4: to make that change. And you know, hey, Tucker may
- 19:34Speaker 4: not start against this type of pitcher, but he's gonna
- 19:37Speaker 4: play a huge role in their playoff run. So he
- 19:40Speaker 4: has to get right to me. The guy that I
- 19:42Speaker 4: think is still having a very productive year, Mookie Bets.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I think I think Freeman's totally his His season's been fine,
- 19:52Speaker 4: and show hey is I mean they both have raked Mookie.
- 19:56Speaker 4: I'm wondering if he's a little tired, and think give
- 20:00Speaker 4: him a little bit of a break coming up here
- 20:03Speaker 4: and kind of give that Dodger break right before they
- 20:06Speaker 4: go into the postseason, because this is also what I'm saying,
- 20:10Speaker 4: you saw all those numbers about that series. I just
- 20:13Speaker 4: am fearful of seeing your best pitchers, letting this lineup
- 20:18Speaker 4: see your best pictures, make adjustments for when they face
- 20:22Speaker 4: them in the postseason.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Mookie well below what he usually contributes, especially offensively.
- 20:27Speaker 1: He's at a ninety two ops plus one hundred is
- 20:31Speaker 1: league average. Dodgers lose Robleski left forearm inflammation, although they
- 20:35Speaker 1: said they're not too concerned and mentioned him needing a
- 20:37Speaker 1: break as he approaches the career high endings total for him,
- 20:41Speaker 1: so maybe that's part of the mix there. Otani threw
- 20:43Speaker 1: a bullpen session on Friday, thirty four pitches, first time
- 20:46Speaker 1: in over three weeks. We'll see what that looks like.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And on the Brewers side, yeah, they take three out
- 20:51Speaker 1: of four here and miss looks like a cy Young
- 20:53Speaker 1: lock a one seven five era for him. And he
- 20:56Speaker 1: had that huge moment where he got out of the
- 20:58Speaker 1: bases loaded jam getting Otanian frame and he just looked
- 21:00Speaker 1: like he's ready for October. Just enter October right now.
- 21:04Speaker 1: If you're Milwaukee, you just want to replicate that. There
- 21:06Speaker 1: so fun series over the weekend in LA and we'll
- 21:09Speaker 1: be right back on FT. We have pop in colors

- 22:16Speaker 1: The heck is going on with the AL wildcard. Who
- 22:18Speaker 1: wants it? It's ridiculous right now, Aja, tell me about it.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And also the chance that we could see four teams
- 22:26Speaker 1: in the American League East, four teams make the postseason.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Right the Rays look like they're in good shape for
- 22:32Speaker 1: the division, The Yankees and even the Red Sox should
- 22:35Speaker 1: take those two wildcard seats unless something crazy happens. And
- 22:39Speaker 1: then that last spot, it could be Baltimore, it could
- 22:41Speaker 1: be Toronto, but one of those teams could grab it,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and then you'd have four out of five grabbing a
- 22:47Speaker 1: playoff seat.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and well, it'll make me look cool because on
- 22:51Speaker 2: a show that I was on before, I said, litt'll
- 22:54Speaker 2: be four of the teams in the American League East
- 22:56Speaker 2: that are that are going to be in the playoffs.
- 22:58Speaker 3: So I'm kind of rooting for it. I guess you
- 23:00Speaker 3: can say a little bit.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But it is crazy, and honestly, it's kind of good
- 23:05Speaker 2: for the game as far as the action because every
- 23:08Speaker 2: team feels like they're close to it. I mean, yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 2: there's like six teams right now that could be involved
- 23:14Speaker 2: in that, and so it makes everyone play hard towards
- 23:17Speaker 2: the end of the year and continue to try to
- 23:19Speaker 2: move up. I mean, we've counted out the Orioles earlier
- 23:22Speaker 2: in the middle of the season, counted out the Blue
- 23:24Speaker 2: Jays in the middle of the season, even counting out
- 23:25Speaker 2: the Twins and the Tigers, especially after trading True.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Schoobo in MI.
- 23:30Speaker 2: So like, it's one of those things where it's up
- 23:33Speaker 2: for grabs and nobody has played consistent baseball enough to
- 23:37Speaker 2: be able to take that last spot. Everyone's playing around
- 23:41Speaker 2: five hundred baseball. They'll win three in a row and
- 23:44Speaker 2: then lose three in a row, and then it's kind
- 23:46Speaker 2: of one of those crazy things to where it's up
- 23:48Speaker 2: for grabs. And as far as how it's going for me, again,
- 23:53Speaker 2: I mentioned about the trends.
- 23:54Speaker 3: The Orioles are starting.
- 23:55Speaker 2: To play better baseball, the Blue Jays are starting to
- 23:58Speaker 2: play better baseball. So I feel like the teams that
- 24:01Speaker 2: are starting to kind of get it together are gonna
- 24:04Speaker 2: have the best chances to secure those last spots. The
- 24:07Speaker 2: Rangers have been inconsistent all year for the most part,
- 24:10Speaker 2: playing a little bit better every once in a while,
- 24:12Speaker 2: but it hasn't been consistent enough. So whatever team just
- 24:16Speaker 2: is consistent in winning some ballgames is gonna be the
- 24:20Speaker 2: one to grab that last spot. But right now everyone's like, no,
- 24:23Speaker 2: you take it.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Oh you take it. I'll take it. You take it.
- 24:25Speaker 3: So somebody has to step up there.
- 24:27Speaker 4: That's it. Somebody has to step up. I don't know
- 24:30Speaker 4: if you guys ever had the dream, but I've had
- 24:32Speaker 4: dreams before where I'm going to punch somebody and you're
- 24:36Speaker 4: going to punch them and it's just like pewh you
- 24:38Speaker 4: got nothing. That's what it looks like right now for
- 24:40Speaker 4: the American League Wildcard. I mean, we're gonna take our
- 24:43Speaker 4: best swing and we're going into We're going into Houston
- 24:47Speaker 4: as the Mariners, and we're gonna go and take this shit.
- 24:50Speaker 4: We're gonna blow two games and then we're gonna win
- 24:52Speaker 4: the third game, like, oh man, we're the Orioles. We
- 24:55Speaker 4: got this. We're totally gonna and then we go and
- 24:58Speaker 4: lose two or three and then we're the Rangers and
- 25:02Speaker 4: de gram goes down. Like there's just so many things,
- 25:05Speaker 4: and it's wild to me that the Ools have made
- 25:08Speaker 4: this run after getting rid of Rutchman. The Tigers have
- 25:11Speaker 4: made this run, like AJ said, after getting real Schooble
- 25:16Speaker 4: and Miz And you look at it and you say,
- 25:20Speaker 4: oh man, well, maybe this team has turned the corner,
- 25:23Speaker 4: or maybe they're all just beating each other up because
- 25:26Speaker 4: they're all just kind of not that great.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean these are sub five hundred teams. We
- 25:32Speaker 1: might have a sub five hundred wildcard team. Sure one
- 25:35Speaker 1: of these teams can go on a run and finally
- 25:37Speaker 1: not be inconsistent for the last forty games or whatever
- 25:41Speaker 1: it is to end the year. But right now it's
- 25:43Speaker 1: just a splash of crap and then a splash of
- 25:45Speaker 1: The Ools are a perfect example here, right, So they
- 25:48Speaker 1: head into that race series, Rays are coming off the
- 25:49Speaker 1: road trip where they went nine to zero there. I
- 25:51Speaker 1: think the best records still at home, or at least
- 25:54Speaker 1: entering that series. I think there were forty one and eighteen.
- 25:56Speaker 1: What happens Oils thump them offense completely shows up and
- 26:00Speaker 1: smacks them in the face in the first three. There's
- 26:02Speaker 1: one more to go that's gonna come after we're doing
- 26:04Speaker 1: this segment right now. But impressive showing from Baltimore. And
- 26:08Speaker 1: you look at all these teams, that's the thing, Crats,
- 26:10Speaker 1: they all have some positive pieces. Right, Like if we
- 26:13Speaker 1: said entering the year, when you look at Baltimore, Okay,
- 26:15Speaker 1: this team could be a wildcard club, you beg Yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I can buy that, you could buy. Obviously, the Mariners
- 26:20Speaker 1: have been one of the most disappointing because we thought
- 26:22Speaker 1: they'd be running for the division and they're still in
- 26:24Speaker 1: that race. Tigers were supposed to be much better than
- 26:27Speaker 1: they are. Blue Jays were supposed to be much better
- 26:30Speaker 1: than they are. To me, I think a lot of
- 26:33Speaker 1: people are looking at these teams like they're bad teams.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I don't think they're bad teams. I think most of
- 26:38Speaker 1: them have underperformed and they're in the same list here.
- 26:42Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know. I don't think you
- 26:44Speaker 4: underperform for one hundred and twenty games. I think you
- 26:46Speaker 4: are what you are. I think you're five hundred team
- 26:48Speaker 4: that underperformed by what three games? Four games? To me,
- 26:54Speaker 4: you have to if you're gonna, if you're gonna put
- 26:58Speaker 4: the odds on the field, gonna have to say, what
- 27:00Speaker 4: do you think wins games down the stretch here? If
- 27:04Speaker 4: you say the team that just beats the other team's
- 27:07Speaker 4: brains in, okay, then you say, okay, Tigers are gonna
- 27:10Speaker 4: grab that last spot. If you say, well, it's gonna
- 27:13Speaker 4: be youth, Okay, Well then the Tigers. You know, they
- 27:17Speaker 4: still might be that spot, or it's gonna be pitching.
- 27:20Speaker 4: To me, I think it's the Guardians. What pitching is
- 27:22Speaker 4: most intact for a team right now, I think it's
- 27:24Speaker 4: the Guardians. I think the Orioles have some good pitching
- 27:27Speaker 4: with Boz and Braddock. And you sit there and you go,
- 27:32Speaker 4: what I say, Braddick Bradish? Yes, like you say, you
- 27:36Speaker 4: say what you think wins down the stretch, and then
- 27:40Speaker 4: you say, Okay, well that's who should be able to
- 27:43Speaker 4: pull out on top here. And that's why I thought
- 27:45Speaker 4: the Mariners. A week ago before I went on vacation,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, Mariners, this is their time. They're
- 27:50Speaker 4: gonna do it here. They are two and a half
- 27:52Speaker 4: games out. They had a shot at winning the first
- 27:54Speaker 4: two games of that series against the Astros. Then it
- 27:56Speaker 4: would be a game and a half out of or
- 27:59Speaker 4: two game of the division, which you'd rather win.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and I still mean, I guess sorry to your
- 28:08Speaker 2: point Kratz on that, you know, I look at the
- 28:11Speaker 2: run differential and the only team that is in this
- 28:14Speaker 2: wild card race in the AL, the only team with
- 28:19Speaker 2: the positive run differential are the Tigers. Everyone else has
- 28:22Speaker 2: a negative run differential. The Rangers have a negative forty
- 28:25Speaker 2: seven and the Blue Jays negative fifty seven, So it
- 28:29Speaker 2: seems like if you go off of that, that means
- 28:31Speaker 2: they pitch, they hit more, hit well, and then they're
- 28:34Speaker 2: pitching holds runners or keep scores down. So if I
- 28:38Speaker 2: had to go with that, I mean I would go
- 28:40Speaker 2: with the Tigers. But then you're like, how does that happen?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Is a lot of that because Schooble and Mice were
- 28:46Speaker 2: there at the beginning, And now does that drop because
- 28:48Speaker 2: you lose.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Those two pitchers? So yeah, it's it's up up for grabs.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Now, there's so many people that think losing Schooble and
- 28:55Speaker 1: Minds meant nothing, and they all have receipts sent to
- 28:58Speaker 1: a j. Perzinski over the life two weeks. So how
- 29:01Speaker 1: did that weekend series go for the team? And how
- 29:03Speaker 1: did Casey Mais pitch for the Padres on Sunday? Oh
- 29:06Speaker 1: he shoved okay, Mike drop, Let's move on. This was
- 29:09Speaker 1: the Sarah Langx famous we for the win probability meter
- 29:14Speaker 1: for the game on Friday, Astros with an epic win
- 29:17Speaker 1: and Christian Walker had the three run walk off homer.
- 29:20Speaker 1: But this is the sport we live in aj then
- 29:23Speaker 1: the Mariners state the next two. So they won the series, right,
- 29:26Speaker 1: you're watching that one.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Oh, here they go.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Astros are gonna have a powerful series, and they had
- 29:30Speaker 1: a great Friday. And sure, I mean not a lot
- 29:32Speaker 1: of movement in the standings from that series. One game
- 29:35Speaker 1: up for Seattle, but overall, I mean Houston didn't play
- 29:38Speaker 1: great the rest of the way there and now at
- 29:41Speaker 1: home they'll welcome in. I believe it's the Angels and
- 29:43Speaker 1: the A's are coming for the next two for them.
- 29:45Speaker 1: So that's the perfect dose of medicine for a team
- 29:48Speaker 1: that had a disappointing series.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's something that you got to try to find
- 29:53Speaker 2: the positives of that and try to figure out how
- 29:56Speaker 2: to replicate the positives.
- 29:58Speaker 3: When you have a series like that. Hunter Brown has
- 30:01Speaker 3: been he's been struggling a bit. Man. That's a guy
- 30:04Speaker 3: that I feel like that has dropped off a bit.
- 30:06Speaker 2: He came out from an injury earlier this year, so
- 30:09Speaker 2: it could be one of those things where he's trying
- 30:11Speaker 2: to figure out his stuff, trying to get the feels back.
- 30:14Speaker 2: A lot of times when you come back from injury,
- 30:16Speaker 2: it feels like you're waiting for that same pain to
- 30:18Speaker 2: kind of come back, and maybe he is in one
- 30:21Speaker 2: of those type of stretches.
- 30:22Speaker 3: But it's been, it's been. It's been tough.
- 30:25Speaker 2: But you got two teams where you can feel like
- 30:27Speaker 2: you can pick up some slack with But again, baseball
- 30:30Speaker 2: is one of those funny sports where that that's what
- 30:33Speaker 2: it says on paper, but what actually happens could be
- 30:36Speaker 2: very different. So you still got to go out there
- 30:38Speaker 2: still another you know, two major league teams with some
- 30:40Speaker 2: major league talent on there, and you have to to
- 30:42Speaker 2: do your business. So but it's something that they get
- 30:45Speaker 2: they if they want to, you know, write this ship
- 30:47Speaker 2: and you can get back in the right direction. They
- 30:49Speaker 2: have to do well these next two series.
- 30:53Speaker 1: A little look ahead thanks to Seekeek. What do we
- 30:55Speaker 1: got this week? What's looking good? What should we be
- 30:57Speaker 1: grabbing tickets to? What's catching your eye? Kratz, you want
- 31:00Speaker 1: to see one of the eighty teams that are in
- 31:02Speaker 1: the ale wildcard race.
- 31:04Speaker 4: I do not want to see any of the al teams.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I don't care about that wildcard. No, I do care
- 31:09Speaker 4: about it. It's fun, it's cool stories. I mean, you
- 31:12Speaker 4: gotta go to the North Side they're going to Wrigley,
- 31:15Speaker 4: the White Sox versus the Cubs. Prazinski's not on here today,
- 31:19Speaker 4: but if you don't want to go to that, both
- 31:22Speaker 4: teams are very relevant, very good. So to me, that's
- 31:26Speaker 4: that's the ticket. That's the ticket that you got to
- 31:28Speaker 4: go out and seek you can get.
- 31:30Speaker 3: M hm, that's fair.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Hey, this is probably our only chance to talk about
- 31:34Speaker 1: the Marlin tier Aj. You're a big part of that show,
- 31:37Speaker 1: right fish on first and what they bring to the table,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and I know it was an exciting start and now
- 31:41Speaker 1: it's kind of been tempered. But where we at on
- 31:45Speaker 1: the Marlins, you know, and what you learned from them
- 31:47Speaker 1: this season.
- 31:49Speaker 2: They're a very resilient team. You know, earlier in the
- 31:53Speaker 2: season when Yuri Perez and Jansen Junk, who had been
- 31:56Speaker 2: throwing well in the season, both went down. Shortly after that,
- 32:00Speaker 2: they went on a crazy June and had.
- 32:03Speaker 3: A good stretch. They just lost Kyle Stowers to.
- 32:06Speaker 2: A hamstring injury, and you know, that was one of
- 32:10Speaker 2: their most power production of hitters. And Griffin Knin starts
- 32:15Speaker 2: to go off, and then Herbert and Hernandez starts to
- 32:17Speaker 2: go off. So there's a team where when you say,
- 32:19Speaker 2: all right, that's it. You know, that's probably going to
- 32:22Speaker 2: be it. You know, this is the straw that breaks
- 32:24Speaker 2: the camel's back because another injury. Also Max Meyer, who
- 32:28Speaker 2: who was an All Star, is injured. But they're still
- 32:31Speaker 2: finding out ways to win ball games. And it's really
- 32:34Speaker 2: good to be a Marlin fan to see that because
- 32:36Speaker 2: it's such a young team and they're playing very meaningful games,
- 32:40Speaker 2: whether three and a half games out or two and
- 32:41Speaker 2: a half games out right now of the wildcard this
- 32:44Speaker 2: late in the season, So this is something that's good
- 32:46Speaker 2: for these young guys to gain experience of what it's
- 32:49Speaker 2: like to play in these conditions. And they have a
- 32:51Speaker 2: big series coming up with the Phillies. I think that's
- 32:54Speaker 2: gonna be a huge wild card type implication type thing.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Last time they faced them, they did really good against them.
- 32:59Speaker 2: So it just shows that when you think about counting
- 33:03Speaker 2: out this team, they're finding out different ways to win
- 33:06Speaker 2: and they're.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Still way ahead of the curve of where they thought they.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Would be at this point. So it's one of those
- 33:11Speaker 2: things where it's fun time to be a Marlins fan.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and one more series here is we're looking at Seegeek,
- 33:17Speaker 1: where you can use the code territory ten for ten
- 33:19Speaker 1: percent off MLB tickets. Diamondbacks red Sox is interesting. Diamondbacks
- 33:23Speaker 1: lose at home to the Rockies, then go on the
- 33:25Speaker 1: road to Atlanta and win that series. Now they'll head
- 33:27Speaker 1: to Boston. Also, Brandon Foughts on an insane run right now,
- 33:31Speaker 1: it's Mitch Bratt in the first one of that one.
- 33:34Speaker 1: But check it out. We're tracking Aaron Judges progress, so
- 33:39Speaker 1: he's starting to throw a little bit, working through the
- 33:41Speaker 1: rib injury. You got a ticket slow so you don't
- 33:43Speaker 1: have a setback because at this point, when you're now
- 33:46Speaker 1: getting close to late August, a setback would be devastating.
- 33:50Speaker 1: So they got to slow play at Krats and balance
- 33:53Speaker 1: him coming back to be as close to a full
- 33:55Speaker 1: strength as possible for a playoff run. For the Yankees,
- 33:59Speaker 1: they did fall in two out of three against the
- 34:01Speaker 1: Blue Jays. They scraped to win. What was that on
- 34:04Speaker 1: Sunday with actually our our shirt right here, Bena Rose.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Makeup for it.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Yeah, man, Like, do we look at injuries the same
- 34:17Speaker 4: for the Yankees as we do for the Dodgers, in
- 34:20Speaker 4: the sense that the Dodgers are in you know, hey,
- 34:22Speaker 4: we're gonna sit Blake Snell most of the year, Tyler Glass, now,
- 34:26Speaker 4: get him ready, No, we don't. AJ's shaking his head no,
- 34:29Speaker 4: and I agree you don't. And so a J Aaron Judge,
- 34:35Speaker 4: you gotta get him back, and you gotta get that
- 34:38Speaker 4: timing down. You gotta get g on the field. Yes,
- 34:40Speaker 4: he's a playoff monster, but you gotta get him on
- 34:43Speaker 4: the field to be able to get that timing down
- 34:45Speaker 4: to be able to do what they want to do
- 34:48Speaker 4: in the postseason.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that he means so much more to that lineup
- 34:54Speaker 2: than anybody on the Dodgers lineup. They have just a
- 34:58Speaker 2: bunch of guys that are coming in so that seem
- 35:01Speaker 2: to produce really well. So yeah, I mean you see
- 35:04Speaker 2: with Judge out and obviously then it just got even
- 35:07Speaker 2: worse when Bellinger got hurt. So when you miss those
- 35:11Speaker 2: two guys, those are like that's the heart of your line.
- 35:13Speaker 2: But then you add g in there, who's dangerous as
- 35:16Speaker 2: well whenever he's on point. It's one of those things
- 35:18Speaker 2: that they you see the holes a lot more because
- 35:21Speaker 2: their defense has been boo boo. Man, it's hard for
- 35:25Speaker 2: them to like I believe that they can play better defense.
- 35:30Speaker 2: But for some reason they're not, And I don't know
- 35:32Speaker 2: what the reason behind that is.
- 35:33Speaker 3: They just they're a little bit sloppy.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And you can see the Dodgers got a little bit
- 35:37Speaker 2: sloppy with their defense. Tommy Edmand missed those two balls
- 35:39Speaker 2: or whatever it was. But you don't see that as
- 35:41Speaker 2: much as happening with the Dodgers as the Yankees. And
- 35:45Speaker 2: when you don't play clean the defense and you're not hitting,
- 35:49Speaker 2: then that makes you look even worse, even though you
- 35:51Speaker 2: have some good pitching, good bullpen as well. So yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 2: it definitely means a lot more when Aaron Judge isn't
- 35:57Speaker 2: in the lineup than anybody out being out.
- 36:00Speaker 3: For the Dodgers, Yeah.
- 36:01Speaker 1: They're relying on their pitching a lot to spend some
- 36:03Speaker 1: low scoring games, whether their wins or losses. For the Yankees,
- 36:06Speaker 1: who just seem like they are treading water. They're not
- 36:08Speaker 1: hitting their strike, that's for sure.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Like do we not talk about the Yankees pitching staff enough?
- 36:15Speaker 4: Cam Schlittler, al Cy Young, like Max Free, Like are
- 36:20Speaker 4: we talking Garrett Cole, Like this is a great, great
- 36:23Speaker 4: pitching staff.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Hey do you guys see this on Friday? C. J.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Abrams is going to spend most of his time at
- 36:31Speaker 1: second base over the last month plus of the season.
- 36:34Speaker 1: He doesn't rate well defensively krats at shortstop. He did
- 36:38Speaker 1: say he sees himself as a shortstop long term. I
- 36:40Speaker 1: don't know if the organization feels that way. They're moving
- 36:42Speaker 1: him to second base. He is an outstanding offensive player,
- 36:45Speaker 1: and they have a number of shortstops in the minor
- 36:48Speaker 1: leagues who could be up with the team over the
- 36:50Speaker 1: next couple of years. Sever King was a former I
- 36:52Speaker 1: think first round pick, and then Willetts of course was
- 36:54Speaker 1: the one one. So there's guys that are natural shortstops
- 36:57Speaker 1: that are eventually going to be up in the show.
- 36:59Speaker 1: What do you think happens long term?
- 37:01Speaker 4: I mean, I seem nuniaz. I think is like I
- 37:04Speaker 4: think he's got like thirteen defensive runs saved or something
- 37:08Speaker 4: at second base. So they're like, we're gonna try it.
- 37:11Speaker 4: It's an upgrade. CJ. Abrams wants to be a shortstop.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Why because aj Ramos wanted to be a shortstop until
- 37:19Speaker 4: they told him he wasn't good enough. I wanted to
- 37:21Speaker 4: be a shortstop till they told me I wasn't good enough.
- 37:24Speaker 4: Sometimes it happens in Little League sometimes it happens the
- 37:28Speaker 4: year before you're gonna turn a free agent. So cj.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Abrams wants to be a short stop because that's what
- 37:33Speaker 4: he's always done and that's where you're gonna make the
- 37:35Speaker 4: most money. But is this what's best for the team.
- 37:41Speaker 4: That's where the org feels, and he's close to me.
- 37:44Speaker 4: I think if this happens, truly happens the rest of
- 37:47Speaker 4: the year, they say it's going to for the last
- 37:49Speaker 4: month and a half, it truly happens. I think CJ.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Abrams is traded in the offseason, and I'm not saying
- 37:55Speaker 4: he's traded a shortstop. I'm saying another team will probably
- 37:58Speaker 4: rate him the same way defensive.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Mm hmm, yeah.
- 38:03Speaker 2: I think one of the biggest things is for him
- 38:05Speaker 2: to be able to play some plays defensively.
- 38:08Speaker 3: To be in the lineup.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I mean, that bat is unreal, so you definitely want
- 38:12Speaker 2: to make sure that you figure out a position to
- 38:13Speaker 2: put him in that best fits your your organization. And
- 38:17Speaker 2: I don't know who knows. He may it may work
- 38:19Speaker 2: out better as a second base, and maybe it's less thought.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Shortstop is one of the toughest positions to play. He's
- 38:26Speaker 2: he's not rated very well, but he's athletic enough to play.
- 38:30Speaker 2: So if this is something that he really wants to do,
- 38:32Speaker 2: then he's got to get to work in the off
- 38:33Speaker 2: season to figure out how to at least be better
- 38:37Speaker 2: metrically or whatever that is.
- 38:40Speaker 3: But yeah, it's.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Something to where it's like, all right, you know, figure
- 38:43Speaker 2: out a way to be on the field, to use
- 38:45Speaker 2: that bat in that lineup, and that's the biggest thing.
- 38:48Speaker 2: You want to be on a team that's gonna win
- 38:50Speaker 2: a championship. You don't want to be playing shortstop for
- 38:52Speaker 2: a team that's not gonna win anything. So if you
- 38:54Speaker 2: get traded or whatever it is, you show that you
- 38:56Speaker 2: can play shortstop or you can be there and you
- 38:59Speaker 2: can play second, you just open up more opportunities for
- 39:01Speaker 2: yourself to you do get traded.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Hey, while we have a moment, Danzby Swanson's hitting the
- 39:10Speaker 1: injured list krats. I mean, he hasn't been hurt much
- 39:12Speaker 1: since joining the Cubs and really in general in his career.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I thinks first time he's hit in the aisle in
- 39:17Speaker 1: two three years. It's the oblique, the side he leaves
- 39:20Speaker 1: mid at bat. So we'll see how bad it is.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I know it's not been the best season overall hitting
- 39:25Speaker 1: for him, but he's still top five on the team
- 39:27Speaker 1: and wins above replacement. He's a defensive wiz and it's
- 39:30Speaker 1: a team that relies on that. So you hope he
- 39:32Speaker 1: just gets himself together over the next couple weeks if
- 39:35Speaker 1: that's what he's gonna miss. And then Edward Cabrera is
- 39:37Speaker 1: dealing with a blister. They didn't commit to him being
- 39:39Speaker 1: in the rotation, so yeah, there it is. The bullpen
- 39:43Speaker 1: could be in his future. They've got options now, so
- 39:46Speaker 1: that's good for them. They don't have to rely on
- 39:48Speaker 1: Cobra and maybe he does help them out of the
- 39:50Speaker 1: bullpen in the playoffs.
- 39:52Speaker 4: That's not what they had envisioned when they traded for him.
- 39:55Speaker 4: It's not what they were hoping for. So yeah, they
- 39:58Speaker 4: should be pissed. I mean he has When you have
- 40:00Speaker 4: an inconsistent year and you're hurt, it's tough. But the
- 40:04Speaker 4: the Dansby Swanson most underrated shortstop. Even when he was
- 40:09Speaker 4: a free agent and signed with the Cubs, I thought
- 40:12Speaker 4: the class that he was in. I was like, this
- 40:14Speaker 4: is the guy that I want out of that entire class.
- 40:16Speaker 4: I mean you're talking about many was in there Xander
- 40:20Speaker 4: was in there. The reason I loved him so much
- 40:22Speaker 4: was because he's able to hit the all fields and
- 40:25Speaker 4: he stays on the field. He's part of that, Like
- 40:28Speaker 4: he came up and he just learned, like, gotta be
- 40:31Speaker 4: on the field. Manny and Xander both the same way.
- 40:33Speaker 4: They both stay on the field. And you know, but
- 40:37Speaker 4: Dansby's been super underrated. I think he's a leader, and
- 40:40Speaker 4: I don't know how you replace that. You don't just
- 40:43Speaker 4: throw Nico into shortstop. You don't just throw Matt Shall
- 40:47Speaker 4: into shortstop. Like shortstop is a tough position, and the
- 40:51Speaker 4: Cubs are gonna be tested here with that.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those things. Man Dan's he is
- 41:00Speaker 2: a leader in that clubhouse, and for him to go
- 41:03Speaker 2: down on something like this, you know, it could be
- 41:05Speaker 2: something that's really tough because he's a tough guy and
- 41:09Speaker 2: on Edward Carbrera. It's something that I was wondering how
- 41:12Speaker 2: he's going to translate to a place where there's a
- 41:14Speaker 2: lot more pressure as opposed to the way he performed
- 41:16Speaker 2: in Miami.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But he can still redeem himself.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Let's say they go to the playoffs, or they go
- 41:20Speaker 2: to the playoffs and he comes out of the bullpen.
- 41:23Speaker 2: He has nasty stuff. His stuff is never the stuff
- 41:25Speaker 2: that's in question. It's between the ears. If he can
- 41:28Speaker 2: lock it in with it mentally, that's when his stuff
- 41:31Speaker 2: is going to play even higher. So he can still
- 41:33Speaker 2: redeem himself and Cubs fans can still love him if
- 41:36Speaker 2: he does make that bullpen move and he's successful.
- 41:48Speaker 1: For the families out there looking for a new path

- 42:43Speaker 1: K twelve dot com slash foul. Hey, we lost a
- 42:57Speaker 1: legend and our sport. Tommy John passed away for the weekend.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Tim Kirkchen just does an excellent job of documenting careers,
- 43:04Speaker 1: and they spoke about Tommy John about a week ago.
- 43:07Speaker 1: We'll give you a little clip from is this a
- 43:08Speaker 1: great game or what?
- 43:10Speaker 7: One of the most underrated pitchers for me in baseball
- 43:13Speaker 7: history and a guy who has really changed baseball because
- 43:16Speaker 7: they named the Tommy John injury after him. He was
- 43:21Speaker 7: the first one to have the surgery. It extended his career.
- 43:24Speaker 7: On how many guys have had Tommy John.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
- 43:28Speaker 7: Sim But he was supposed to be well, I don't
- 43:30Speaker 7: know if he was supposed to go, but he did
- 43:32Speaker 7: not go to the Yankees Old Timers game, and he
- 43:34Speaker 7: left a note for everyone just saying I will never
- 43:37Speaker 7: forget you. I don't know what that means, and I'm
- 43:40Speaker 7: not even going to go there in case something bad
- 43:43Speaker 7: is on the way. I'm not going there because I'm
- 43:45Speaker 7: not going to believe that for anything. I just want
- 43:47Speaker 7: everyone to know how good Tommy John was. He won
- 43:50Speaker 7: two hundred and eighty eight games. He started exactly seven
- 43:55Speaker 7: hundred games in his career, Jeff. He had a career
- 43:58Speaker 7: era of three point three to four. He was one
- 44:01Speaker 7: of the great control artists that we've ever seen. He
- 44:05Speaker 7: didn't throw hard, but he really knew what he's doing,
- 44:07Speaker 7: and he threw forty six shutouts. You have forty six shutouts.
- 44:11Speaker 7: His first shutout was on May Or nineteen sixty four,
- 44:15Speaker 7: and the game lasted an hour and thirty four minutes. Yes,
- 44:20Speaker 7: that's a commissioner's dream right there, and that's without a
- 44:23Speaker 7: pitch clock. But he threw strikes. And just like we
- 44:26Speaker 7: talked last week about two weeks ago about the three pitch,
- 44:29Speaker 7: three out inning, I'm sure Tommy John had a few
- 44:32Speaker 7: of those. But best to Tommy John. He should be
- 44:35Speaker 7: in the Hall of Fame.
- 44:38Speaker 3: There you go, he should be in the Hall of fame.
- 44:40Speaker 1: That's strong words from Tim Kirkton too, and I think
- 44:42Speaker 1: back up the case with the stats and all that.
- 44:44Speaker 1: So a j obviously we know him for you know,
- 44:47Speaker 1: the surgery. But let's not forget the career too.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Now. The career is amazing.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I was reading over some of those stats last night
- 44:54Speaker 2: and it was just unreal to just see what he did.
- 44:57Speaker 2: He pitched too, he's forty seven. It's unheard of now,
- 45:01Speaker 2: so he's definitely a legend in the sport. The way
- 45:04Speaker 2: you win bout this game, and honestly, he helped a
- 45:06Speaker 2: lot of guys extend their careers.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Meet included.
- 45:12Speaker 1: All right, we're back for a few extra bonus minutes
- 45:14Speaker 1: on YouTube Fun Show today. This is a fun way
- 45:17Speaker 1: to finish, So we have a little bit of video
- 45:20Speaker 1: from the fantasy football draft that the Toronto Blue Jays
- 45:24Speaker 1: players held. How do they determine draft order in a
- 45:28Speaker 1: much more fun way than your league probably does it?
- 45:32Speaker 1: So they have the Blue Jays support staff on the
- 45:36Speaker 1: field and then they go by who throws the hardest.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Whoever throws the hardest via radar gun gets to choose first,
- 45:43Speaker 1: and that's how we go one through twelve on the order. Here, Kratz,
- 45:46Speaker 1: I mean you were once a Blue Jay. I don't
- 45:47Speaker 1: know if they did this back then, but what other
- 45:50Speaker 1: insight can you give us here, like who would be
- 45:52Speaker 1: the Ringer in all of this.
- 45:54Speaker 4: For me, it has to be I just saw the Jays.
- 45:57Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if this is Lannon throw,
- 46:00Speaker 4: but John Lannon pitched in the big leagues. Like John
- 46:02Speaker 4: Lannon was one of my teammates. If there's a support
- 46:04Speaker 4: staff that throws harder than him, it would be maybe
- 46:08Speaker 4: Drew but Terra Catcher, pooh pooh bat, but an absolute
- 46:14Speaker 4: rocket of an arm. So that's what I'm saying, are
- 46:17Speaker 4: gonna be the top two.
- 46:21Speaker 2: This is one of those fun things that you do
- 46:23Speaker 2: in the clubhouse that a lot of people maybe don't
- 46:25Speaker 2: see now because there's videos and stuff. Now you get
- 46:28Speaker 2: to a little bit of insight of what goes in
- 46:30Speaker 2: the clubhouse. I know whenever I was with the Marlins,
- 46:32Speaker 2: we had a similar thing, but it wasn't for It
- 46:35Speaker 2: wasn't for the what's it called the why am I Blanket?
- 46:39Speaker 2: I hear the fantasy? It was just it was called
- 46:42Speaker 2: the Club Olympics. And in spring training we have all
- 46:45Speaker 2: the club's come out and we have different various things.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Like one of the things was that they had the
- 46:50Speaker 2: machine that shoots straight up in the air to see
- 46:51Speaker 2: if they can catch the pop ups and they're fully dressed.
- 46:54Speaker 2: They also had a stations where they'd run and had
- 46:57Speaker 2: to fold clothes at a certain time, and it's called
- 47:00Speaker 2: the Club Olympics, and we all pitched in and the.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Top three got a good amount of money.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I will say, so these are the things that you
- 47:08Speaker 2: have to have in your clubhouse to keep everything light
- 47:10Speaker 2: because every day you play, and you know, sometimes you
- 47:13Speaker 2: go through these rough stretches. But any way you can
- 47:16Speaker 2: kind of get some fun into that locker room, especially
- 47:18Speaker 2: if you're.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Not having been playing well.
- 47:21Speaker 2: It kind of loosens up the guys, brings some camaraderie together,
- 47:25Speaker 2: and it helps guys stay on the field and play
- 47:27Speaker 2: even at a higher level because you're having fun as well.
- 47:30Speaker 4: I love clubby Olympics. And we had one klubby in Milwaukee.
- 47:35Speaker 4: He talks so much smack that he used to play
- 47:37Speaker 4: Division III football, and a assistant strength guy in the
- 47:42Speaker 4: minor leagues was also talking smack that he played football.
