- 0:17[SPEAKER_03]: Can I put on a zebra shirt and just go out there?
- 0:20[SPEAKER_03]: Scratch claw.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_03]: Up against the wall.

- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Hello everybody.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, we're back after a couple of weeks off, uh, essentially doing illness, uh, I got the COVID for like the 5th or 6th time, and then you've not been feeling great, but here we are, we're locked in, uh, we're back on the Monday Wednesday at, um, schedule.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: So today Wednesday,
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: As we're recording this live on YouTube, we're talking fall camp, Monday will be our biggest episode of the season.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: The season predictions episode and then next Wednesday, a week from tonight, we'll be talking about USC's first game of the year, week zero because it'll be game week next week.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: SC and Saturday stay at Lock and Horn at the Colosseum, Spartans, Trojans kicking off the 2020 season.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_03]: it's my game week it is my game week and and and I I saw on Twitter that christivino and truck and spratling were in contention over whether or not fall camp is over and I think I am team truvino here all camp is over if it's my game week I think the the true question here is weather or not
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: they are in their fall camp dorms or their actual dorm.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I believe moving day was like this week or today or something fall camps over.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm saying, yeah, say, and it's just it's my game week.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's no way around it.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, by the way, we got a super chat from Dan that says,
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: It was five bucks to get Michael vaccinated.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: I am vaccinated.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: I've gotten like, you have not gotten the booster.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: Neither of us have gotten the booster that I believe that we are scheduled for.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, just like neither of us, neither of us have gotten Michael.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_03]: It's been like five years since I've seen it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: I also just got a text message.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_03]: What did you see me as saying we need to get our flu shot?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_03]: So here's the problem with the vaccine.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_03]: Big fans of the vaccine.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody vaccine up.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_03]: My problem with it is I psyched myself out.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's the same thing with the flu vaccine every year.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, okay, if I'm going to go get it, then I need to do it at an advantageous time where it will be okay if I have side effects in like if I start to feel sick that day or the next day.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: And there's just never an advantage I've made an opt-in to that.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_03]: So I put it off and put it off and put it off and then inevitably we end up getting, you know, the flu or something or you get COVID or whatever, as basically you do every time we go on a road trip.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_03]: And then I'm always kicking myself because I'm like, why didn't we just get the vaccine in August or September when we're supposed to so that we don't get sick during football season?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_03]: So, well, I live over with.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_03]: All that is to say, I think that you and I should go get our flu and COVID boosters on Sunday.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go for like six months.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that you are though.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: You certainly are good to go for the flu.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: this is true.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get into the big news of the week.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: At least of the preseason AP poll is out.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: An SC is number 14 tied with BYU.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, soak it in at number 14 with the coogers there.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Uh,
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: The sand Arnold spot.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it is the sand Arnold's but this is an insane schedule the SE has of course because we know that Ohio State is number one, preseason number one, or in preseason number two, first time number one and two schedule to come to the Coliseum of Belief since 2012.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_03]: uh... back when it was organ and another day which was a you know great season to recall uh... you know that's that's that's that you want to hear going into a new season this is the first time since twenty twelve great memories which part of the twenty twelve season week one probably before i knew what was coming
- 6:04[SPEAKER_03]: 49 nothing against a white yeah something like that and even that game if I remember correctly It's hard to remember because there have been so many Hawaii games that were just like Just preseason games that weren't true like even that game.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think was super satisfying But what game was that season yeah?
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: a homecoming was great that your SC and ASU not only because Todd Graham had a burn a call a timeout when Lane Kiffinson or Kiesley add on defense for one play and then Todd Graham was like no we're gonna time out here but that's that's when I mean even tell Chilla that's true first time we ever met in person that's true yeah
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: The 2012's clearly is here.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Is that 2012?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: Really?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: So good memories for us.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: 2012.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_03]: That was when we met.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_03]: So there you go.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: I was talking to my therapist about reframing things in my head.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to reframe the year 2012.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: As this year, I met my future husband.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: there we go.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: Other USC opponents ranked Indiana number six Penn State 18.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: Washington, number 17, other big 10 teams to note, Michigan at 16, Iowa, 22, I saw a TikTok from Lucy Rotten a few weeks ago, and I want to say it was her.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: It might have been Oliver, but I'm pretty sure it was Lucy Rotten said.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: I would need to be number 22 in every preseason poll.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: And then the preseason AP poll came out and I was literally 22.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_03]: I was always 22 US is always like 14 or 15 and it's just the way that it is and chances are that I was just going to be the 22nd best team in the country this year based on just the way I was and chances are that USC is probably going to be the 14th best team in the country this year based on well we hope because I saw a stat that like whenever USC is ranked
- 8:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like, in the top 15, they've never finished the season.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: Like, in the last few times, they haven't finished the season in the top 15.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: So, I don't know.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever that stat was, don't quote me on it.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_03]: I remember his not to be trusted, but either way.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_03]: Either way, it feels right.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: I have no complaints about it.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think it is interesting and kind of funny that when we talk about the tears in the big 10, the tier one is clearly Ohio State in Oregon and Indiana.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: And then tier two is literally all ranked in the, like USC is 14, Michigan is 16 Washington is 17, Penn State is 18, Iowa is 22.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_03]: in everybody agrees that like these are the teams in the big 10 that could be good Could be could be good, but are we totally bought in yet?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: There's big question marks about all of them So I think it's sort of tracks that just as we've said USC is the best of those teams, but There is a lot of reason to look at each one of those teams and say well, this is the reason they could end up being a top 10 team and this is the reason that they
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: probably won't end up being a top 10 team.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, it's hard to separate them and the polls reflect that.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think Fort team makes a lot of sense when you look at what we always talk about in the off season.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: goes down to who are the returning starters?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: What do you got?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: And one of the things that we do every year when we're talking about the season predictions episode that we put together, there's always the situation where you're looking at teams and you and I were talking about this the other day,
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: some shocking stuff that we're going to tell you what set is I said in the same like roster situation set is a state is in and we'll talk about that not only Monday and our season predictions episode but of course next week when SC plays them a week zero but when you're doing a season preview of any sort trying to get a sense of what a team is before the season you're looking at okay do they have a returning quarterback what did they do last
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: Who are their returning players?
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: Who are their returning starters?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: Who do they not have?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: Who, what is the, what is the issue with, you know, someone who's not on the roster right now, whatever it is.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: You're looking at very superficial things because you don't have any other information, right?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: And when you look at SC right now, what is the information that you have?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: The information that you have is that SC is returning a quarterback who was really good for 95% of the season last year.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're returning to really damn good running backs in women Jordan and King Miller.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: They are
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: they lose a bill in a cuff winner at a seaver, but they return a lot of talent at receiver.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: They return a lot of experience on the offensive line.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: They return a defense that is trying to
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: you know, piece together a bunch of talent up fronts with budding talents in the secondary and trying to combine that with a lightbacker core that is trying to put things together.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of things to like on paper superficially, especially when you look at essays coming off of a year, which they went nine and three, and they
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: they didn't have any toe stubbing last year, right?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: And so number 14 just sort of feels like what a team that was nine and three last year and has a returning quarterback and all those things should be right now, right, like that that just feels like what they should be.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, basically.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_03]: And that's exactly why I don't think I will, I will.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: argue the point too much on where USC is ranked.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: I've seen I'm seeing comments in the in the chat about whether or not rankings matter at this point and the fact of the matter is rankings don't matter.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying not to be distracted by my technical difficulties over here, but rankings don't matter in the grand scheme of things because your ranking will be determined by
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: by whether or not you win games so like u.s.e.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_03]: being ranked number 14 right now is irrelevant to the question of whether or not u.s.e.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: will be ranked at the end of the season because to be ranked at the end of the season they have to end up with a good enough record and if if u.s.e.s.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_03]: 9 and 3 they'll be you know a top 15 team and they will have justified this ranking.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_03]: And if you see loses four or five games, then they won't justify this ranking at the same time.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: Viewers, you see go send into their top 10 team, you know?
- 13:40[SPEAKER_03]: So the polls don't matter in like, in that sense.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_03]: But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk about them or that we can't have a discussion about where USC is at the start of a season or that it doesn't.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there's a lot of like polls don't matter.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: you know at the start of a season and all that and it's like because it's just they're just talking points.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think you look at it two different ways, right?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like yes, I agree the polls don't matter.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to like
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: Where SC ranks is going to be determined by what they do against Ohio State Oregon, the Indiana Penn State Washington, right?
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: The four ranked teams that they have on their schedule, those games are going to determine where they are ultimately ranked, even if they lose to Rutgers, but they win all those other games, they're going to be a top 5 team, right?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what they do in the big games will define their season?
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: uh... having said that i think where the polls do matter uh... and this is something that like we've talked about before like the three-dimensional or the multi-dimensionality of polls right and so you've got to figure out where can you what what is your upward mobility right and if you are a team that is in the g five
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you're not ranked in the preseason, it's gonna be hard to break in.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't have a single vote in the in the preseason, it's gonna be hard to break into the poll and then how are you gonna end up getting into the playoff that way, right?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're actually in your number 14
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: You are in a spot that is, your ranking is not affecting whether or not you will get into the playoff later, because you are right about where you should be in terms of the discussion points and all those things.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's a reason when you look at, you know, our friends over at my bookie and, you know, you, you,
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: you want to do things like the football season coming together and you want to take time out of your day and take time away from work and go look at what S.C. is looking at over it in my book.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: I just went over there and looked at the season wins total and it's eight and a half.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_02]: And so you can go over and take the over, like I will absolutely be doing over at my bookie for SE's win total.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_02]: And at number 14, that sort of feels like what everything is sort of putting together.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: So you can, of course, head over to my bookie, get your first lock of the season.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: There's going to be more to come all season long.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: Sign up with my bookie with promo code ROT.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: Start your season

- 16:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think you might be back.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_03]: I might be back.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: There I am.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_03]: You're back.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm I'm back slightly worse for framing, but we're going to we're just going to leave it in that.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: All right, a lot of stuff to get to.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: Let's start talking about fall camp.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: uh... at least let's get into some big injury news uh... come in a fall camp uh... this book earlier in fall camp killio conner us he's starting center was who is predicted to be the starting center at least is out for the season with an injury suffered a scene's an ending injury in practice now you have to figure out how he gets replaced by his ramen killer willy washer cannonsmith uh... where does that see go from here uh... when you're talking about
- 17:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a tough one because on the one hand, it's like USC's offensive line is going to be the key to having a good season.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: USC doesn't get to the college floor playoff this year if the offensive line is, you know,
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: there's a lot of injuries and upheaval and repeats of some previous years where guys are just going down left and right.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: That's not a recipe for success for USC this year.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_03]: There is better depth to deal with an injury or two, but there's not still no one has great depth to deal with an
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: knowing that you can survive one or two you've already used up one of your chips that's how I feel about killing a conner you've used up one of your probably two two and a half injuries where you can go like this is absolutely survivable so right now this is very survivable especially and this is where you know I want to be fair to killing a conner as a veteran
- 19:01[SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, there was already talk of Tobias Raymond over taking him for that center job.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: Tobias Raymond simply has a much higher ceiling.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: He has a potential where a killing icon or doesn't.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: He has size, where a killing icon or doesn't.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so
- 19:18[SPEAKER_03]: like in that sense if you're going to lose any of the the projected starters on the offensive line, I don't know that you would have picked O'Connor given the position of center and how cerebral it is and how important it is to have somebody who has experience and stuff there, but if you were going to pick anybody in terms of what is their ceiling for this season, losing O'Connor is probably the one you can manage the most because
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: There is a good chance that USC is replacing him with somebody who is potentially better than him, if not somebody that was going to replace him anyways with Tobias Raymond.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: On the end of the season.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_03]: Come the end of the season.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: The tricky bit here is that.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: Tobias Raymond doesn't get to earn this job.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I mean, not that he's not going to earn it, you know, but like he doesn't get to win a battle over kill killing killing a conner or prove that, you know, he, he forces an issue and that's why he's starting now, he's going to be starting at center because USC has that need and his battle is more with killing Miller, willy washer or cannon smith to see who deserves that job.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_03]: the most, and now let's say that Tobias Raymond Getchins are injured, now you're too down, and you are dealing with that, and filling more holes here there, or elsewhere.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, you never want to lose your starting senior center in camp.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: There's just no way around that, but it's survivable at this point, I would say.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, scarce in the chats has depth, but a lack of experience.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that sums up the offensive line really well.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: because there's a lot of names on the offensive line.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of guys who you think that could have an impact, whether it be now next year or whenever, but there's just not a lot of experience there beyond the five or six guys that got a lot of time last year.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so, yes, there's step there, but
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: Will SDB be in a place that it's fine at the end of the year?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: They could be absolutely.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think the question mark is,
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: we don't know for sure based on the limited experience of the depth and on top of that like you lose one of your guys at a key position of need like center right now and you go into a situation where like you can't lose another guy if you want to continue to have experience players on your offensive line going in the season right like you can't continue
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: light your page, someone has a lot of experience at left tackle.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Hayden Treader is someone who doesn't have a lot of experience, but someone who, you know, has a lot of, you know, upside and is really impressed and camp and everything, but
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't have the experience that Killing O'Connor has, or to buy a stranger or a Lonnie Noah or just to tell a new or even Killing Miller from last year.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, opportunity is a big thing for the children, especially with the depth that they have, but ideally you want to be able to see more from your experience as well.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see how that sort of all comes together.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think when you talk about injuries, the other place to sort of look at is receiver to no kinds.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: He's been injured since spring, but the good news is he's finally back in full pads this week.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: Is it fair to say he's someone that we've all sort of expected to be the number one or the number two simply based on how he looked as a number three a year ago with lemon
- 23:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think he's the obvious wedercy for one and it has been concerning that he has been out for so long of this offseason injured.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_03]: I sort of wasn't stressing it too much in spring, but I have been gradually stressing it more and more with the with fall camp extending out the way that it did and him still not being back fully.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_03]: So having him back from a game week.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_03]: info pad seemingly full-go is a huge development, considering that, um, considering that that USC needs him to come out and be the guy, um, to be the number one guy and, and as much as it's been nice to see other guys, um, show their, you know, get, get their opportunities in the like,
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: It is, sorry, it is difficult to do this while also trying to fix my camera, give me two seconds.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think the thing you look at the receivers, I think there's a lot of, clearly there's a lot of talent there.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: You lose the bulletin cuff winner.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: You lose a guy in Jacobi Lane had 12 touchdowns a couple of seasons ago and had a lot of production, right?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: But like, some of the kinds just showed so much promise and I would say that like there were a lot of comparisons to some of the kinds last year to what Mackay Lemon looked like when he started out at S.C. but sort of ahead of the curve.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the receiving core ends up looking really promising when you add in.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: you know to roll Anderson coming in from N.C. state and what he can do you get Trent Montmosley the highly ranked prospect coming in who could
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: immediately be a starter and that's before you even look at, you know, Katie W. Cadendix and Wyatt, Corey Sims, Booby Feaster, all those guys who can sort of add depth over at wide receiver as well.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: Other entries to notes, if you can players currently out, including Titan, Tucker Ashcraft,
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: safety-dee-ritic and line-backer Elijah newbie fair to say that all three of those guys all in sort of key positions to you know be impactful this season Tucker Ashcraft
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: has a huge role at tight ends.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Bowman comes in as the freshman that you're expecting to sort of be the future of USC's, you know, tight end play, especially as a receiving target, but he's a true freshman.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's not going to be the full package, especially on the, you know, blocking side of things and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and,
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: with experience and all that.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: You need Tucker Ashcraft, the transfer in from Wisconsin to sort of be a reliable guy to help.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Bowman, B Mark Bowman, and give him some ability to go out there and have the confidence to play without some of the expectations of doing all the other stuff immaculately.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so you want to see him out there and then Elijah Newby, who's currently not practicing this, you know, a big one because,
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: middle linebacker spots, sort of up for grabs with Desmond Stevens, Devon Bryant, Talonoa Ely, a lot of guys that newbie would be expected to be competing against right now at linebacker.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it sounds like he's going to be part of that rotation this fall, and I think with the linebackers, especially these first few games that are hopefully USC can treat as sort of preseason run-up games, like Elijah Nubie is exactly the kind of guy that I want to see in those games to see what he's got because we haven't really seen much of him.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: during his time at USC so far so hopefully he's able to to get you know fully healthy and be able to be out there for first game against centers they satin and then and then beyond that I think with all of these guys there is some like with Tucker Ashcraft there's a little bit of run up because if Bart and Mark Bowman's gonna be your your main guy like throwing him in against centers they stayed as something I can live with.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: It helps that you have those three games at the beginning of the season, Santa's Day State, Fresno State, and Louisiana.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, mind you, Fresno State, I think it's on a completely different tier than the other two, but all three of those games manageable, considerably manageable, compared to anything that S-C is going to face in the big 10.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Especially when, you know, rotgers might be the worst big 10 team that S-C has on the schedule,
- 28:32[SPEAKER_03]: But it's a great week.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so nervous before you play Oregon and all that kind of stuff Conference wrote opener all of that all of that the he bgb's this fighting since this fighting since this tingling pretty bad But but back to the these guys D-Ridic and Elijah newbie like these are the games where they will get their opportunity to prove that the deserve be playing in big ten play
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think Tucker Ashcraft coming from Wisconsin being a veteran, I think he's the kind of guy who as soon as he's healthy, he'll just be there and be part of what we're saying at tight end.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: But, Retic and Nubi do have a lot to prove for themselves and do have to prove that they're worthy of being in that rotation and you'll see that rotation whittled down considerably
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: And so I've limited opportunities for those guys to to show the coaches what what it is they can do in life play and it starts with being healthy.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, that's pretty big 100% out.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get into the guys who are having, you know, really strong camp so far.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: uh... pence that he transfers the ria fissure sent he doesn't look like a freshman and in other those things that people just say but it's not just him it's like there's a lot of people that are saying that a tonium arallas from the athletic and the new york times that quote he's displayed the flashes you want to see early on from a player who entered college with that much recruiting a claim and i'm interested to see how big his role becomes the season go on uh... if he doesn't start open the year as a starter
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, that's the kind of, you know, things that you're you're hearing and you look at the defensive end positions.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: You've got Braille and Shelby.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: You've got Cameron Crawford.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: Those are two guys who have been around the block a good while.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: But they've also been around for a good while without like,
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: a thousand and fifty percent said many themselves as dyes who can't be you know beaten for time and if look way full as all the hype that he has uh and he's able to you know sort of go in there and be a productive guy as a true freshman um mull for it all for being able to see what he what he can do at defense event
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is interesting because he has so much talent and he is playing a position where where there are guys who are very well established who will definitely start these in his starters, but certainly haven't produced to the degree that they couldn't be unseated by somebody like Luke Wafel.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's just the the reality of the of the situation for them.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_03]: And, and I like the idea of some of some competition to be honest, like I like the idea of that that guys like Braille and Shelby and Cam Crawford will be pushed from the back.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Zariah Fisher himself will be part of that discussion discussion.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: Not to mention that we've talked about it before.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like the, the,
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: the ability to change things up for the Trojans when you look at what can they do with different fronts.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: You've got you to have a Siri who can play at the end if you need them to.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you can play at the end if you need them to, there's a lot of sort of flexibility there, which gives SE a million different potential fronts.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: all the more recent for someone like Luke Wafel to sort of take advantage of the flexibility and your talent and you start a season in which you've got three games against G5 opponents in which you will get time even if you don't start sort of an ideal situation for those guys on the defensive front especially a Luke Wafel.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree, and I'm just really excited to see what he can, I mean, there's a bunch of freshmen that I'm super excited to see Mark Bowman, one of them, and Luke Wafel, the other guys who just like, they were hyped coming in, and they're getting that off-season hype, and we're going to get to see them in these games, and I think there's a chance that they live up to all that hype, so yeah.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_02]: uh... other guys who have stand out stood out in in camp uh... in the dv room a lot of guys that we were here in a lot about players are talking about john test Williams is the guy that profit brown talked a lot about uh... in in media scrims this week uh... profit brown himself rock hill matt reardon uh... reardon is gotten uh... man reardon is got a ton of
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: you know discussion with what he brings to to the page there and what's all of those guys can do in the new look Gary Patterson defense any of those DBs take all your pickle a little bit as you get into the season.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, Junta's Williams being healthy and camp and the reports being that he looks like the lockdown number one guy is a huge sigh of relief on my end because I have been stressing that injury recovery and I never want to count my chickens before they hatch on a player who's coming back from as severe an injury as Junta's Williams was.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: And it is, you know, again, like to know kinds, it was like during spring, I'm like, I'm not trying to stress it because it's spring and this is the time where you recover.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: But getting into fall camp if he had been limited going as far into camp as, you know, kinds has been, I would have been, you know, sweating.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you and me, you and me both, yeah, even at 9 o'clock, even at 9 o'clock.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: This room is just, if you're watching us on YouTube and you think that I have white eyebrows, I don't, it's just currently 78 degrees, but it feels much hotter than when you're sitting here in front of lights and monitors.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's the, it's the monitors.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's the lights.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's the computers.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_03]: It's everything.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_03]: It just,
- 35:14[SPEAKER_03]: We're, we're fogging up over there.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: But either way, like John toz Williams, the difference between a U.S.E.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: defense where John toz Williams is that guy and where he's not is pretty significant.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_03]: So having that certainty a little bit more with him, him being a standout is just a huge, huge deal for, deal for me.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'm really happy for profit brown because again, another guy
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: a little bit uncertain like could he pick up where he left off could he regain a starting job or would he be overtaken by by somebody else and and it sounds like he is in line to start at safety not even nickel so you know we've had a lot of discussions about what that what that sort of
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: orientation of this of this defensive back group would look like and it sounds like what we talked about with with Alex Scrammer or Kennedy Erlacker at Nickel is coming to pass will profit brown gets to be a veteran.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: figure at it's safety so I think that the the Christian Pierce profit brown safety pairing is very interesting and I wish we had been able to see more profit brown recently from you to feel really confident in that but I think the fact that he comes in and takes that role Kind of is a vote of confidence to me as opposed to him just coming straight back and being nickel
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: in in in some sort of unique way so that's been that's been pretty cool to to see and then of course the freshman USC is going to be relying on a lot of freshmen this year Talon O'Eli is a guy that I've been looking at trying not to put too much expectation or pressure on him given
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: the position he's playing and also just his size coming out of high school he needs to bulk up a little bit more to play that position properly but him hitting the ground running as it seems uh is is a really good sign and I would very much like to see him while I don't expect him to start uh certainly early in the season I would very much like to see him show signs that
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: he will be ready to take over that job with a quickness and so it's this is the start for him.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_03]: And then of course, Madden Reardon is just like, Raver views all over the place.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: Love it.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: I love he, you know, every once in a while, we get a safety that comes in that just gets Raver views from from the moment they step on the on the field.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's a long and pretty pretty decently performing line of guys who have done that.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, by the way, in our rundown we wrote Matt Reardon and the reason for this is I've been putting together I've been playing a USD dynasty on call triple 27
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, Madrid is not in the game.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so there's just like some random creator player who's at safety.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, I changed his name to like, Matt Reed, uh, Matt Reed, I think, because I wanted to be like close to Madrid and but you can't write his name or else like the game or an accept it.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, and so like in my head, his name is Matt Reed.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's Matt, yeah.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: Other guys to discuss their standout guys at Landback or Devon Bryant and Telenoa, Ely and you need to see it from the linebackers because we've talked about it last few episodes now and we're probably.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: I worry that we come off as too pessimistic about the linebacker core, but like.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: seeing is believing I'm sorry I'm very very sorry for anyone who is extremely optimistic about the landbacker core but it is now been 10 years 10 plus years since
- 39:11[SPEAKER_03]: we have gone into a season hoping that USC's linebacker core would look good and and having them actually look good or an individual look good.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_03]: It has been it has been a decade of futility at this position.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: So my my my optimist my optimist to Galicia feelings about
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: that that is the one position on this entire team that I hold I have zero expectations like my expectations are they are on the floor I have zero so any sort of anything that looks alive in that room is going to be a massive over achievement as far as I can say hey it's twenty twenty seven
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: uh... for me in call triple twenty seven i mean you're two and uh... that's been sevens it's like number three in in but is faulty right now so uh... there's there's hope there's been sevens turning the first two see one ryan just like raved about him in his intro presser he did
- 40:27[SPEAKER_03]: And you know what, I want to give full credit to those Stevens, like there are a lot of players who over the years we have seen be coaches favorites because they put in the work and they study properly and they do everything right.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't mean that they are adequate football players for a U.S.C.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: team with aspiration.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: And when it comes to Desmond Stevens, it did
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: it it has seemed like there is there there's two issues that I have it doesn't see even see even's number one um the the the sort of size and technique to not get wash out of place uh which is something that I think coaches can address that that is something that proper coaching and hopefully my calculator can can can can can work some magic there can deal with that
- 41:12[SPEAKER_03]: and then the other thing was timidness and unfortunately for players especially in that position I think that can be reinforced by not having a great season, by having difficulties with the other players around you in terms of whether or not they are reliable and then the overall scheme and all that kind of stuff.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: And my worry is that sometimes when you get into that head space where you become timid and don't know like you don't look like you know what your
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: you know exactly what you're supposed to be doing in that moment and you hesitate.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: It can be, you know, it to challenge to break out of that mindset and to get yourself back on track.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: New coaching, new scheme, new voice could be the thing that unlocks him.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_03]: But it could also just be that it's built into his into where he is now and we'll take more time to sort of unravel that particular, you know, mess that seemed to be coming from there and I bring up Desmond Stevens, but like,
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: He was the starter last season for USC because literally no one else was better than him.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: So it's not like it feels very much like a positional thing, not a player thing necessarily.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm not trying to pick on him.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_03]: None of the linebackers were adequate last year.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm here's a question for you and I'm curious what what Rapads in the comments have thoughts here.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: Who was the last?
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: very good U.S.C.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: linebacker.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean the answer to me is Kim Smith.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_03]: Is it Kim Smith?
- 42:53[SPEAKER_03]: We are.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_03]: We are.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_03]: it has been way too long since campsmith war uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... decade it's been a decades since u.s. he had uh... what i would what i would say is a like uh uh uh uh uh uh uh linebacker with the qualities that would qualify him to go on to have a career in the NFL like campsmithed
- 43:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and Camp Smith's NFL career was fine and unfortunately cut short, but like
- 43:27[SPEAKER_03]: there hasn't been a linebacker at u.s.e.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: that his his done he even been close like the closest the closest to that and will put Eric gentry to the side because it's just he's just he was just such a unicorn he doesn't even like it yeah I don't know if it's difficult to to this guy said this yes but like you can make you make the case it is Eric gentry but but like eastern mascarinas Arnold
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: is is the second best linebacker that USC has had in the last nine years and he's going to and he's getting a cup of coffee in the NFL he's he's doing well with the it sounds like he might even end up starting for the Browns so like I'm not I'm not trying to damn him with faint praise but I am damning him with faint praise because he's in my screen as Arnold was just a replacement level linebacker for USC.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_03]: And that was so much better than anything USC has had it linebacker in nine years that like just having a replacement level middle linebacker for USC that season did make a difference.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: In some way, but you know, SC has had a couple of Dallas Sarts's.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: But like you need a
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: You need a key thrifers.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_03]: You need a key thrifers.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: You need a Raymau Luga.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_03]: You need a Brian Koshin.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_03]: Brian Koshin.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: Brian Koshin.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: It literally.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_03]: Name a linebacker from that era.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, even if Michael Hutchins could get the 5th year, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, whatever year of eligibility and come suit up for USC again, like I'd take Michael Hutchins in a heartbeat.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe it's Michael Hutchins because it wasn't he.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_02]: after campsmith no they played they played together they played together in that roseball campsmith ended up playing one more season camp hatchings uh... in camp hatchings Michael Hutchings biggest tackle in s c history the last 20 years
- 45:25[SPEAKER_02]: undoubtedly.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: I would say.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about key position battles.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_02]: We got to go back to a question in the chat that we got about this from our own murty that says any thoughts on who our kicker will be yet both guys like they will be used.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah,
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: Sayari, and Kate and Tintin, both fighting to be the place kicker.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is great.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: Personally, I think this is great.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: When you look at what's area he was able to do last year, he was fantastic.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: with somebody who had no expectations thrown in there as a walk on that like nobody knew his name before the season started and then he was nails.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: He missed like a couple of kicks.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: on like, what was he like 13 or 15 or something for the season?
- 46:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, something like that.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: He was he was absolutely stellar for the situation that he was put in a year ago.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: Chittington came in from UNLV.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: He was a freshman all American two years ago at UNLV.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: And sort of expected to be like, okay, here's the guy who has,
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: you know, maybe the pedigree of maybe a dude who can, you know, compete for the Rosa award.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: S.C. never has like a Rosa level kicker.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Tintin will be that guy and then he ends up getting hurt last year, missing the entire season.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, well, he's back and now to me, like,
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: this is it's the best of both worlds either you get the chettenden who is going to win that battle and prove that he is the guy that he was two years ago and has not ultimately gotten
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: Jerry's gonna like continue to just be stellar and not only that, we'll have validated how good he was by beating out Chittington in a tough place kicking battle.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: it's the the best case scenario like you're going to end up with the like the you know they they say that like you know competition you know reads the the the best outcomes right like truly like the seems like a situation that is that is great to have a kicker battle like this because these aren't these aren't like two dudes can be a kicker battle because they're in that you know
- 48:15[SPEAKER_03]: yeah i'm 100% with you uh... this isn't this isn't a situation of like not having a kicker because you can't find a good one like you have two good ones uh... say or for the record was uh... twenty one of twenty five eight four percent on field goals he was forty eight forty eight four extra points uh...
- 48:34[SPEAKER_03]: So, perfectly solid kicker didn't have to worry too much about the position on a in a season where you would see a plenty to worry about.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_03]: It was nice to not have to worry about the the kicker.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_02]: In sport where college kickers are maligned by everybody?
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then like you said, like shouldn't we were excited for shouldn't it because he had done so well and had so much potential at UNLV.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_03]: So, I think you come in, I think the best case scenario here is that shouldn't in his back fully healthy.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_03]: and that he can live up to his potential as like a full blown like kicker with range and all of that kind of stuff and then say air he can handle kickoffs and and and at you know worst case scenario is a is a is a really really really good you know
- 49:19[SPEAKER_03]: Break glass in case of emergency not even emergency just like if Triton didn't isn't up for the Of the task then say areas the guy and if say areas not up for the task and Triton's the guy like, you know, you know, all of that.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_03]: So Yeah, I think you a season a pretty decent position here obviously.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think Riley will want to Resolve this battle Before the season starts, but I it's just not something I worry about at all, which is so like it's a luxury It's a good spot to be in
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: The other thing is the other battle that I think that is worth sort of mentoring here is that QB2 Genesis Williams and Sam Heward and we talked about this before if Jade might have his dome pops off in the middle of a game It's probably Sam Heward that's coming in for a snap, right?
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: But if he breaks a finger, not going to what he doesn't obviously, but is it Jonas Williams, like given how all the discussions have been from Lincoln Riley in the media and everything, like this might not just be a two A and two B situation, but like a flat out, QB, two battle?
- 50:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, what do you make of it?
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be honest, the fact that it's still open coming out of mock game week tells me that it's Jonas Williams.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: like the the question for me was always like you know Jonas Williams isn't ready to go he's not ready to go that's fine you know he's a freshman don't expect him to be ready to go and if you come into the season with Sam here or just keep you to that's that's fine he's the veteran he's been around um no worries there's no no question like it I think it's an easy it's an easy thing to say if if Jonas Williams isn't ready to go then he's could be three the fact that there's a question of whether or not Sam here
- 51:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, is this not the 20 was it 2019 situation with keen slowvis where it's like you had JT Daniels you had think sorry the year before you had jackseers yet all those guys and like
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: If Keaton Slovis is running with all the other dudes at the same pace, then like, well, then then that's your answer.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: That's your answer, yeah.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, good for Jonas.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think that, I think, for me, this speaks well of Jonas and where he's at and how hard he's competing and putting himself in that position.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_03]: It does fill me with more confidence that he is sort of coming along and he's not like,
- 52:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, sometimes quarterback show up in college and they are just, they take so wild to sort of get to a point where they can even talk about, even speculating about thinking about anything but red shirting you.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: So if he's not on that, on that track, then I think that's, you know, as far as I'm concerned, awesome news.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_03]: Love to hear it.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I go back to like, if the key battles that we're discussing are
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: And a place kicker situation where like you have two potential number one.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_03]: it's not like you don't have a number like these are these are good problems to have yeah and i think it's very interesting with this team there aren't a ton of ors that are meaningful like i think about you know that there's there's uh... we know john to his Williams looks like you like corner back one who's going to be number two i i don't think it's still clear if it's tracing johnson or marcellus Williams
- 53:03[SPEAKER_03]: But it doesn't that almost doesn't matter because they're all going to play anyways.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_03]: So they're going to whoever's going to be.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_03]: Of those three that the two that show out the most will be the ones that by the time you get to big 10 play you know you know that answer already.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: Um, in the secondary, you know, is it, you know, who, who will be the starter between Alex Graham and, and somebody like Kennedy or Lacker, um, it doesn't really matter because they're all gonna play.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think you can, of course, this for courses, Alex Graham and, and Lacker a little bit as far as whether or not you want more of a, a cornery, nickel or a safety, nickel, uh, so it doesn't really, like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's
- 53:45[SPEAKER_03]: they're all going to play anyways.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's not really, it doesn't really take anything away there.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_03]: Another other than that, I just, I don't know that I see a ton of like,
- 53:58[SPEAKER_03]: big or camp battle question marks.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_03]: Even at linebacker, like, Well, I'm not sure all the guys are going to play anyway.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's like, it's like, okay.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_03]: Who?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: And it receiver.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, they're all going to play anyways.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: What will Devon Bryant start for USC, though, with a Washington transfer?
- 54:15[SPEAKER_03]: Or will it be Jane Walker?
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: Or, you know, will Elijah Newby get in there or whatever?
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't matter because we're going to see all of them immediately, you know, it's it's it's going to be a rotation of guys.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_03]: So that there is there is a strange amount of clarity with this and the killing of Connor injury kind of took away one of the major camp battles to in in terms of.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_03]: that starting five on the offensive line is is so much more clear which by a ceramic at center and you know by from from reporting out of camp which is hard to say because no one's getting to see like the actual practice it's just warm up since stuff but it sounds like Hayden Trader is the guy in that five so yeah it's it's all pretty and and if Kaylon Miller
- 55:06[SPEAKER_03]: Killing Miller is is gets involved or Brett Colerj gets involved or whatever like that's fine there the U.S. he's probably going to be rolling with six or seven offensive linemen anyways because that's just the way that often the lines operate whether for the injury or for other reasons throughout the year no
- 55:25[SPEAKER_02]: All right, that sort of sums up everywhere that we were going to discuss in terms of fall camp, but we missed a couple of weeks, which means there are stories we just haven't discussed yet.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: And Mark and the chat says, I would love to see a game in South Bend.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you're in luck.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_02]: At least at the USC Notre Dame rivalry is back on in schedule for Zoom in 2030.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's a four year deal.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: S.C. has won the standoff, have they not?
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the rivalry is renewed in exactly the terms that USC wanted it.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: So, yes, USC, the Notre Dame Caved is really as simple as it gets.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_03]: Apparently, the big inciting incident here was Indiana canceling the home and home they
- 56:25[SPEAKER_02]: So he was he was pissed that like S.C. and other day weren't going to play anymore, he's like, you know what, we're pulling our troops out of South Bend.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: for the sake sanctity of college football.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so that he doing the Lord's work.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_03]: He really is a stand-up guy.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, it's just so transparent.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_03]: USC had terms that they wanted the rivalry to be played under and Notre Dame.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: wouldn't meet those terms this year or next year or the year after because they didn't want to but the the reality is they could have made it happen and and the incident was already approved week zero like expanding week zero so USC's idea of playing that game in week zero was realistic and and feasible so the you know we didn't even need to lose the rivalry for the years that we're going to be losing it but in the end noted aim
- 57:23[SPEAKER_03]: of the I think the unfortunate thing here is the U.S. lost the PR battle the moment that Lincoln Riley didn't just come out straight up and say I want to play no name any time anywhere you know any like did like mark like free-mended and so the narrative will be with the narrative is but the reality that the U.S. he got is the national narrative still that
- 57:49[SPEAKER_03]: S.C. lost the PR battle, because I don't think that's the the narrative I continue to see on social media, which it's social media, so take it for what it is, is that Lincoln Riley ran scared from the right worry.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_03]: which like I am on record is saying I don't think that Lincoln Riley has the same competitive spirit that someone like Pete Carroll did and that and that like that was part of the part of the calculation here but at the same time like I also think you have to you have to look at the full context of the situation and recognize that like the big ten didn't necessarily want
- 58:32[SPEAKER_03]: to be playing Notre Dame in November every year because it screws up with the there are so many permutations of the schedule that need to get permuted and USC having that that out of conference game in November is a complication that was not good for anybody in that front.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about it in the
- 58:57[SPEAKER_02]: S.C. and Stanford were such a, at a disadvantage, scheduling wise because of their commitments with Notre Dame, and that just made everything so much more difficult, it's why S.C. had to play conference games early in the season and by weeks were always a little weird or the one year they didn't get a by week.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, why because the Notre Dame game was in there the Notre Dame game wasn't there that would have been There would have been a by week right there and they would have been able to move things around differently, right?
- 59:29[SPEAKER_02]: So Yes, I think that Could you say that like Lincoln Riley was was was scared?
- 59:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think Lincoln Riley wants an advantageous schedule for the same way that that Kurt Signetti wants an advantageous schedule, and I think this is the new meta in college football is to recognize that when you have mega conferences and you have
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: you have consolidated power the way that you have and your schedule thus reflects that consolidation of power that out of conference scheduling becomes a liability and you're you're seeing that that trend of these these out of conference matchups.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_03]: being taken off schedules because teams realize that like if you are uh... who was it last year if texas if texas doesn't if texas schedules a bunch of uh... a power six teams and i mean of a group of six teams the last season they're in the playoff like it's it's really that simple so right
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_03]: You're seeing a recognition of well you can make the case that if messy didn't play Notre Dame last year that you as you could have been the playoff.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah exactly.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think they are, but you know, but it's a reality.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's a room that you're in the discussion along with them the other two last teams.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_03]: which is part of the reason why and not to get back on my on my high horse uh... why i kind of support the twenty fourteen playoff because the only way we're gonna see big out of conference uh... scheduling sort of return is if is if the idea of one difficult like one
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_03]: toss up out of conference game is the difference between you make in the playoff and not you're just not going to even schedule that game and so it's a it's a it's a it's a conversation that I think a lot of not just coaches a lot of athletic departments and all of that are are having and I don't think Lincoln Riley is unique in that I don't think that USC is unique in that well I just think I think it's like there's there's the irony here of
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody that looks at USC schedule this year is like, oh my god, that's a schedule from hell.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_02]: They play, you know, three teams in the preseason top six.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_02]: And realistically, all those teams could be right number one.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Indiana, the defending national champion, and then this Kyle St. Morgan, not all be number one.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_03]: They could end the season one, two and three.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, in any order, right?
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, um, and so like, it is weird to me that like,
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, your mouth, you could say, hey, this schedule the SE has in twenty twenty six is so insane.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_02]: And now the other one, but actually, uh, Lincoln Riley is an absolute pussy for not wanting to play Notre Dame this year.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, yeah, you can't have it both ways.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_03]: And I want to clarify to in case I don't want it like I was saying what I hit what I've seen from people who don't Just you know fans who other fans who do just have their opinions about Lincoln Riley because of their opinions about Lincoln Riley.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the fact is that the compromise that USC came to was still the harder one because playing Notre Dame at the beginning of the season is just easing
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_03]: what will still be a very difficult is what makes the most sense.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, and and it's still and I and I said this at the time when when all of this was popping off that like the U.S.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_03]: The Notre Dame rivalry does not make sense and has never made sense for either program.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_03]: The only reason it is good is it exists is because two great programs decided to allow their sort of
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_03]: the tradition of that rivalry to transcend what would make sense within the sort of meta of college football over time.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_03]: And USC in Notre Dame bringing this back doesn't make sense for either team either except for
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_03]: the tradition and the the the pageantry and all of that kind of stuff so credit to both teams to both programs for taking the steps that needed to happen to to bring the rivalry back because USC didn't need to agree to play the game at any point and Notre Dame didn't need to agree to come back and replace Indiana on their schedule with a USC but it also like if if you want to accuse Lincoln Riley of running scared it's
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_03]: you can't run it run it's not running scared if you're asking for the venue to change I mean for the the the the the the week to change not for the game to go away entirely so yeah and and I I think there's a difference between running scared from a schedule that is
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_02]: stupidly hard versus running away from a schedule that like where you truly want to play nobody.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_02]: And that wasn't that wasn't the case.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, because if Notre Dame was on the schedule this year, where did Notre Dame end up?
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_03]: They're like...
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_03]: they were getting first place votes so you'd you'd end up with a situation with you could play four top five to yeah right no no name is number four yeah so so you're you're talking about u.s. in a world where no today was still on the schedule u.s.c.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_03]: when we're being playing four of the top three teams of three of the top four teams in the country
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_03]: and the so four of the six top teams in the country like
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that maybe maybe having noted it on the schedule in an inconvenient time in the middle of of of conference play when they could really, you know, when it can be really when you're guaranteeing out of conference travel every other year, I don't think it's unreasonable to say let's do this in week one.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's go to the mailback.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_00]: you've got mail uh... let's start with a uh... voicemail we got from the five oh three guys i was just listening to the buyer sell episode and the question about the can rally being around uh... in the year after this upcoming season and uh... by out was could be fifty million bucks i'm just curious
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_00]: that we have with him would then allow him to go and coach elsewhere.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_00]: In other words, would we be liable to pay him the full $50 million if he takes the coaching job elsewhere, because there's a, he's a young guy, he's going to go coach some girls.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess it all comes down to the terms of the contract, but that was curious if anybody knows anything about that.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, you, thanks
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for the call.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's how they work.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's exactly how they they Well, it is right that it does depend on the terms of the contract.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_03]: And unfortunately because USC is a private institution, we don't know the detail, those kinds of like details of the contract.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I haven't seen it reported anywhere specifically what the like.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_03]: But that's how they work.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_03]: that that USC that the buyout would be lessen if he gets another job, but that's not guaranteed, but that's how buyout like that's how these things tend to absolutely weren't, but I the thing the the caution I will put here on assuming that that is the case is number one we've never like I have never seen anybody report anything of that to suggest you said something that nobody ever really talks about, but it like
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_02]: We saw it with James Franklin after the fact that before the fact People don't know what about that as a reason of like why the buyout won't be as bad as you think it could be The other thing is like
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_02]: James Franklin is an outlier in the sense of like, he's someone who could still go out and get a pre-mo job, even after getting fired at Penn State.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Lincoln Riley could still go out and get a pre-mo job.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it's what I'm saying like, yeah.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's an outlier situation versus like, well, Clay Helton, who,
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_02]: like had to go down to you know Georgia Southern and wasn't going to make the same amount of money at Georgia Southern.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_03]: What I will say though to caution any optimism on this point is that when USC hired Lincoln Riley they were in a will give you anything position.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_03]: Where you know the contract is the way it is and is so beneficial to Riley.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_03]: And all of this, like it was a 10-year contract because USC was not in a position.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_03]: USC had to, you know, give Riley an offer.
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_03]: He couldn't refuse to a certain degree.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_03]: So, like, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the, if the
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_03]: it would not surprise me at all if there was if the offset language was not particularly kind to USC in terms of how much that offset.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_03]: So that's all I'm saying.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the reality is that the buyout is still significant and USC will need to show significant nerve in order
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_03]: Lincoln Riley, he's just doing
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_03]: He could just do the Cliff Kingsbury thing and say, OK, cool, I'm going to go spend a year with my family and the kids that I don't get to see all that often because I'm a college football coach who doesn't get to see five years left on the on the deal if he if this year's the last year also again, there's five years left on the deal, there's not 10, it's not a hundred million dollars left.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, but it's five years and that still means, you know, 50 million, which is yes.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_03]: U.S.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_03]: He wasn't firing Clay Hilton over a 20 million dollar buyout.
- 1:09:54[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, you have it.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_02]: They're making a lot more money right now than they were back then.
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_02]: This is true.
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I genuinely, I don't, I, I think we need to stop talking about the buyout.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, I don't think the buyout is going to, we will have plenty of time to talk about the buyout.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_03]: If or when the buy it that that actually becomes a conversation that we can be having is like the reality is is if if we are in October and U.S. e. beats Oregon.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_03]: We're not going to be talking to the buy out.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Other things.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_02]: We started a couple of comments here in the chat.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_02]: uh... trobob assie says another hot take this will be the best linebacker core in the last 10 years uh... it's a take but like also like how strong of a take is that i don't know the bar is low um... i think uh... i think it's always
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like I said, the my expectations are on the floor, I think there is a chance that this could be the best linebacker core U.S.C.
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_03]: in the last 10 years, which would be an improvement.
- 1:11:11[SPEAKER_03]: I would take it.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_03]: If you told me right now, if you get troubled, if you gave me this right now, I would snatch your hand off for it.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_02]: What if you're told this could be the best linebacker core in the last 10 years?
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be the 10th and the last 20 years.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_03]: I still take it.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_03]: I still take it.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_03]: I still take it.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:11:30[SPEAKER_02]: Intense word six says, as good as King was last year for us, we cannot run the ball to save our lives against Notre Dame and Oregon with him.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think having waving back is going to be big as long as he stays healthy.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_02]: I go, I hear you and like I agree that like having both of them back is massive.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_02]: You need both of those guys to spell each other.
- 1:11:52[SPEAKER_02]: They're both sort of, they're not exactly the same type of runner.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_02]: one's a little more jittery than the other one, one's more of a home run hitter than the other one's more explosive than the other one, but it's not a thunder and lightning situation, but they're both two really good dynamic running backs.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're just a slightly a little bit different.
- 1:12:13[SPEAKER_02]: You want those two to play off each other.
- 1:12:15[SPEAKER_02]: I will go back to the fact though that like
- 1:12:19[SPEAKER_02]: The reason you couldn't run against Notre Dame in Oregon wasn't because King Miller wasn't able to run against those two teams.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that women Jordan would have made
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_02]: difference either, especially given the way S C's ability to run is very good or a per rush basis throughout the season as a whole because the scheme and the blocking work from the run into light boxes and everything and so like it works when it works and when it doesn't work it doesn't work, no matter who the running back is.
- 1:12:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think so long as you have a good running back in U.S. 2 good ones, then the scheme will do well against most teams.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_03]: Like you said, like the problem was that Notre Dame and Oregon's defensive fronts are just, you know, some of the best in the country and U.S., he's often in the blind.
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly not one of the best in the country and was, I think, getting injured by the time they face those two teams.
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_03]: So, not ideal circumstances, I agree with you that I don't think William and Jordan would have,
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_03]: made the rushing performance in those games demonstrably better because it wasn't, it wasn't a, a, a, a, a, King Miller problem in, in those games.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I'm, I'm super excited to have both those guys though.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think this, this could be a really fun.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_03]: Um, running back room to, to get to watch all season, and Wave and Jordan is getting slept on way too much.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_03]: I love King Miller, like I love the kid, but Wave and Jordan is, you know, just, the ceiling on Wave and Jordan is above what the ceiling on King Miller is.
- 1:14:03[SPEAKER_03]: And, uh, and I think we've only seen the half of it, I, I'm just, I'm just, I'm
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_03]: crossing my fingers, knocking on all the wood, maybe we need to hire an Etsy witch to make for the women's warden's stay healthy all season.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_02]: All right, two fun ones here, Lamont says speaking of backstage or sod, Buck Allen at the store today.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of good running backs.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_03]: Just more, yes.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, to worris Allen.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_03]: Hope he's doing well.
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_03]: Love Buck Allen.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_02]: Love Bucca, you know, in soccer they have the streets streets won't forget guys, who is the streets won't forget running back for S.C. is it Buc Allen or is it more so like a
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_03]: something buck Allen.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying like it is buck.
- 1:15:03[SPEAKER_02]: I was buck Allen.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have too long of a successful career to be a on the streets won't forget that guy?
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but like he's also not he's not like one of the first five or six or seven running backs that come to mind what I think of USC last one years.
- 1:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but like I think like in the spirit of like
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_03]: you know who you know it's really good I mean in that case then it's a lot of I'm out of pay I am really bad I mean a tray mat in is actually the the answer but Dominic Davis all right dances to Aussie rules football teams recruit American kickers I bet they recruit former like wide receivers and tight ends and stuff it would it would it would be tight ends yeah it would it would it would be tight ends
- 1:15:56[SPEAKER_02]: I, if you watch Aussie rules, it's, it's essentially like watching tight ends.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_02]: Be able to kick the ball.
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it's, it's like a game of three flags up, but you're kicking it instead.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:16:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so like I don't think like a little scrawny, like, no, I'm thinking big body, big body wide receivers and, and tight ends.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like a, like a rugby type guy.
- 1:16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_02]: All right, um... Mr. Pugahets is trademarked and I played with them.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_02]: Trim, trademarked.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_02]: Your, your, your, your magic, man.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_02]: My guy.
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Joe McNeighets is church and death star.
- 1:16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Streets never forget Joe McNeigh.
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_03]: Nope.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no for getting Joe McNeighets.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Rest in peace.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_02]: Number four.
- 1:16:45[SPEAKER_02]: Um... All right, we'll be back at a Monday.
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_03]: Take details.
- 1:16:48[SPEAKER_03]: What's that?
- 1:16:49[SPEAKER_03]: Rest in peace.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_03]: Number four out of respect for treating Daniels.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_03]: Can we talk about that before I know it's hard for everyone to get off, can we talk about that?
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_03]: In case the listeners haven't been paying attention to the wider college football world, there's been a dispute between LSU and a high-zwin winning quarterback trading Daniels, currently quarterback of the, uh, the Washington Commanders.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_03]: where he has denied, basically sent them a cease-and-assist saying that they can no longer use his name image and likeness because he's angry at them for letting a corner back where his number five this season.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_03]: That corner was promised the number five when he was a recruit and then didn't get to where it is.
- 1:17:43[SPEAKER_02]: A guy who doesn't play his position.
- 1:17:45[SPEAKER_03]: know he's a and he's really damn good like he's a five star guy who had a really good freshman so he was like freshman all American.
- 1:17:51[SPEAKER_03]: Um, uh, I forgot about like, yeah, potentially maybe rumored also to be JJ Watkins, um, Paramore?
- 1:18:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 1:18:03[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that's still a thing, but if Jane Daniels, either way, he's mad at them because they gave his number five away.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a, you know, a whole dispute over whether or not they've given them a number nine out for Joe Burrow.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_03]: They haven't, they haven't retired, they don't retire the numbers.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_03]: They only have one retired number, and it's the number 20 for Billy Miller.
- 1:18:28[SPEAKER_02]: Not the SCP.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_03]: Not the SCP.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_03]: But, have I told you this story?
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_02]: I never liked Billy Miller as a kid strictly because I had a dream that that he he he killed me in a toys or us I If it's holding a story Michael Lord that I don't remember it's it's classic one of those like you wake up and you were You're mad at me for cheating on you and you're dreaming.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, classic one of those Yeah Yeah, I'm like see I'm an RG sourd guy.
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm nice
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_03]: I've never, I mean, I've always liked USC's Heisman Jersey retirement policy.
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a good policy.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_03]: I've never been more appreciative of it.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_03]: then this past week and sort of debate just to not have the question, you know, you're, you're, the, the, the, the jersey is retired.
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_03]: The moment you finish at USC Kailable.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, people were clowning USC for retiring Kailable, Yams jersey.
- 1:19:34[SPEAKER_03]: The year after he, he came out, I mean, the year he came out, essentially.
- 1:19:38[SPEAKER_03]: And like, at the time, it was just like, yeah, this is what USC does.
- 1:19:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's immediate.
- 1:19:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's automatic.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's no question.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_03]: So then you don't get into these kinds of things where like you've de facto retired Joe Burroughs jersey, but some five star kid wants to wear the number five and you promise it's something Brian Kelly promised it to him even though he couldn't give it to him and now Lane Kiffin comes in and it's like yeah, of course I'm going to let him do it, it's good whatever.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_03]: And then Jane Daniels makes up a fuss and does this whole like tantrum that he barber strikes and effects himself into becoming the meme of the week where the, you know, the national parks are talking about, you know, doing something in a force that it's not to take time away from them.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_03]: The New York Metz, the New York Metz are have been clowning Jane Daniels about how they scored four, they scored four runs out of respect for Jane Daniels, because they're not allowed to use the number five.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_03]: He's getting absolutely meamed to Helen back all because he made a big deal out of this, which is completely stupid and pointless in my view.
- 1:20:45[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, Colorado would never do this to, uh, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure, sure,
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_03]: you know and like not everything needs to be a shake down not everything needs to be a shake down and not everything needs to be like a massive disrespect like if if if if a if a kid came and wanted like if if the if the number 55 was critical to a player deciding to to come commit to USC like yeah given the freaking 55 then like I mean the 55
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_03]: older than they were like US yet the the the best players in u.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.s.e.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_03]: whatever it takes to be better as a team is is what should be on your mind and and it and like as a as a former player the perceived selfishness of like I'm the only one who can wear number five and no one else can wear it even if they're a corner back who, you know, deserves it or whatever, like
- 1:22:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, although it just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_03]: he's going to be he would you know the the what he would get back from LSU by keeping that relationship strong over the course of decades beyond his career is worth so much more than causing this fuss when he's fricking you know in his early 20s or whatever he is.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_02]: My my head cannon.
- 1:22:54[SPEAKER_02]: was recruited by S.C. at one point.
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_02]: What if he just, you know, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 1:23:25[SPEAKER_03]: And Oklahoma.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_03]: And there's, there's like a couple more.
- 1:23:31[SPEAKER_03]: They don't retire jerseys at all.
- 1:23:32[SPEAKER_02]: My, my, my, my, my, I think it's one of my hot takes is I think that that's not a, that, like, that's kind of a good thing.
- 1:23:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like there's not because somebody was commenting.
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yankee situation isn't saying that they don't have so many retired numbers, including like lineman.
- 1:23:52[SPEAKER_02]: that they have a weird situation with like they can't give out many numbers and stuff like that and they can't like retire more like lineman's numbers of the retired to me like yeah it's it's at some point it's silly at some point it's silly like I get you you don't want to give away number three because they've worth for it and everything but like it's also silly when all your players have to wear number 47 now you know what I mean
- 1:24:22[SPEAKER_02]: Because you don't have any normal numbers in circulation anymore.
- 1:24:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I would love for you.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_03]: I see it again in a new situation where we're having this problem, personally.
- 1:24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 1:24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 1:24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we'll see.
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think that we should we should talk about like famous Trojan's who board numbers before they were retired.
- 1:24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kishan Johnson.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 1:24:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:24:50[SPEAKER_02]: War of the number three.
- 1:24:51[SPEAKER_02]: First time we were on the number three.
- 1:24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Mr.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_03]: Von Johnson, War 13, right?
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:24:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:24:57[SPEAKER_02]: Tray Matt, War 13, yeah.
- 1:25:02[SPEAKER_02]: And like, in the sense of like, if Jane Daniels, sorry, if Jane and Mayava wins the Heisman and 14 gets retired,
- 1:25:16[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations to Sam Darn.
- 1:25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, congratulations.
- 1:25:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, congratulations to Isaiah Wiley.
- 1:25:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're in number 14.
- 1:25:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yep
- 1:25:27[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we'll be right up there.
- 1:25:29[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back Monday to do our big season predictions episodes.
- 1:25:33[SPEAKER_02]: So join us then.
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're going to do sort of later, mostly because we've got a lot of stuff going on.
- 1:25:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so later, sort of ends up working for us at the moment.
- 1:25:46[SPEAKER_02]: So it should be about eight or nine o'clock.
- 1:25:50[SPEAKER_02]: Pacific time on Monday night to join us.
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Come with your predictions as well and we'll talk about ours and discuss in the chat and hopefully by then I'll figure out a way that I can do a pod without my glasses fogging out.
- 1:26:04[SPEAKER_03]: Well hopefully we can figure out a way for my look like a moth.
- 1:26:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know the moth.
- 1:26:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:26:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well yeah my my camera was on the first
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back Monday.
- 1:26:21[SPEAKER_02]: Until then, we will see you soon.
