- 0:07Welcome back to another edition of the Justin Tom Podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host, Justin, and with me we got Will.
- 0:14Justin, it's good to see you, brother.
- 0:15It's a pleasure. It's been a little while.
- 0:17Refreshed. I'm refreshed, brother.
- 0:19I need that vacation. Yes.
- 0:21I need a vacation. It's only the second week name
- 0:26in the first full week of school and I need a vacation.
- 0:29Yeah, I didn't give you heart, but you told me it was good so
- 0:32far, so I mean it. Has been good.
- 0:34It has been good. It's just I went from waking up
- 0:38at like, you know, to now I'm waking up at like 536 o'clock.
- 0:43But I did not miss those days. Yeah, but where'd y'all go?
- 0:49So we went to Kentucky, went to the Bluegrass State, as they
- 0:53like to call it over there. No, but we went to the, we have
- 0:57stayed in Lexington, but we have went to different cities in
- 1:00Kentucky. We went to visit the the ark,
- 1:02which is like the life-size, the life stack, the exact
- 1:06measurements of the Bible. It was a surreal experience.
- 1:10But the day before I went to the Creation Museum, really just it
- 1:14was such a blessing to be a part of that vacation, you know,
- 1:17obviously to get refreshed from work and stuff like that, but
- 1:21really just to see, really see like that, those powerful
- 1:24visuals of the Bible of the word of God.
- 1:26So it's a privilege. I strongly recommend everybody
- 1:29that's will listen to this episode and just the podcast in
- 1:32general. Please go to Kentucky.
- 1:34I don't care. Just put your beef with the,
- 1:36with the Wildcats aside for a little bit and just focus on
- 1:39Jesus. It's it'll, it's a beautiful
- 1:42state. In all seriousness, like the
- 1:44scenery was so beautiful. My dad noted that he didn't
- 1:47realize how much, how many heal. It was so healing.
- 1:49There's so many heals. And so it's and like it was also
- 1:54for the first time, I went to Texas de Brazil for the first
- 1:57time ever during the trip. I don't know if you've been yet,
- 1:59but it's. Not haven't been yet.
- 2:01Man, every, every, everybody told me that, like people that
- 2:05my Co worker told me, she said it's the best make sure you go
- 2:09hungry because it's like it's a unique experience.
- 2:12They just keep they all they do is bring out steaks of food and
- 2:15stuff like that on life. And like they just cut up on the
- 2:18place like a buffet, like a high end buffet.
- 2:20They got like a suit. It's like all kind of the high
- 2:23end meats, not like no salami type stuff, but it's like filet
- 2:26mignon Brazilian beef. It's like it's it's upper class
- 2:31and like they got like a soup and salad bar that you go up to.
- 2:33It's like just a high end buffet.
- 2:35So just come hungry. Just don't make sure you don't
- 2:38eat that much that day. They and you're.
- 2:40Already making me hungry. Hey, brother, if you're going to
- 2:42be hungry, go feed over there. Yeah, It's where they repented.
- 2:46You know, they always they had the one that where it's still
- 2:48there in Perkins Row. Yeah, I've just never been.
- 2:52I always pass it. But it's not one of those like I
- 2:55went and saw Spider Man last Friday for the second time.
- 3:00My coach, she told me she saw Spider man.
- 3:02She did this like last week. Highly recommended.
- 3:06OK, I'll be there. It's probably the top movie of
- 3:10the summer. Wow.
- 3:12Maybe the year, maybe the year. Wow, strong praise.
- 3:19Keep in mind I've only seen one movie.
- 3:22New movie you. Can't read without seeing this
- 3:24so I mean listen, they'll be OK you can't you?
- 3:27Can't. Yeah, I've seen them as they
- 3:30came out. I take that back.
- 3:31I did see Toy Story. What are they on?
- 3:33Four or five. But I think it's 5.
- 3:36The fiddling, yeah. Yeah, I wouldn't see that one
- 3:38when it came out, but brand new Day it's they put Marvel back on
- 3:46the map in my opinion. Yeah.
- 3:49But you know y'all, y'all don't come here to ask for movie
- 3:52recommendations. Hey, listen.
- 3:55But we don't. We, we got what you need, guys.
- 3:57But you know, if you want movie recommendations, we can give
- 4:01them to you. When you're next for there.
- 4:03You can come to us for vacation spots movie.
- 4:07Recommendations. Yes, but you know, you know,
- 4:12late earlier this summer we talked about the rule changes
- 4:18going in. So I thought it would be a good
- 4:20idea to, you know, touch on those rule changes, do just an
- 4:23episode on the rule changes and stuff and get everybody up to
- 4:27speed so everybody knows first we've got the new targeting
- 4:30rule. It's basically same thing for
- 4:34targeting. It's just your first offense you
- 4:37just suspended for the rest of the game.
- 4:41It's no longer next game suspension for the first half.
- 4:44Your second offense, it's disqualified for the rest of the
- 4:47current game plus the first half of the suspension following it,
- 4:53first half suspension for the following game.
- 4:55Your second offense, that doesn't matter when it happened,
- 5:00it could happen in the first half.
- 5:01You'll sit out for the rest of that game and you'll sit out for
- 5:05the next game. And then your third and more
- 5:07offenses, you disqualify for the rest of that game, plus one full
- 5:12game. And you know, in my opinion,
- 5:16since all these players are making money now, making the big
- 5:20bucks, if you target somebody for 1/4 time, third or fourth
- 5:25time really, if you target somebody on for a second time
- 5:29and it's a like flagrant foul, like you absolutely put your
- 5:34head down, you shouldn't only be disqualified for the first half
- 5:38for the one game you should have to pay a penalty.
- 5:40You got the money now. Yeah, that'll stop them when you
- 5:43hit them and they. Hockey books.
- 5:45That'll stop them. There you go.
- 5:47That's good. What do you?
- 5:49Think about. That and like that was such a
- 5:51great point you brought up because you know, you and I,
- 5:55we've always said before, listen, before somebody accuses
- 5:57of something, listen, I'm all for the athletes getting paid.
- 6:00Justin's all for the athletes getting paid because they're
- 6:02just they're just do. But with the great reward comes
- 6:06with great responsibility. So you should be rewarded for
- 6:09your labor. So, but again, especially like
- 6:13when you play in these high profile universities, you, you
- 6:16already pursuing the sport professionally anyway.
- 6:19So like, so this is what you're going to see at at the with the
- 6:23big boy league whenever you get there.
- 6:25So yeah, you're not making the peak money, but it's still a
- 6:29great sum that they're getting right now.
- 6:31It's a lot of them. And just so I love that point
- 6:34that you bring up. So just, you know, a lot of
- 6:36people talk about well, oh, it's it's becoming pro.
- 6:39Listen, it'll never be pro sports because it's not created
- 6:42equal, but I understand. But.
- 6:45The. Goal is to The goal is to be to
- 6:47the pros anyway, so you might as well help with the transition
- 6:49any way you can. And you know, it's still that
- 6:52what they still though what they used to say one in every what 10
- 6:57go to go to pros. It's still those statistics is
- 7:03just we pay these kids more, you know, they're compensated for
- 7:09their time because as a college athlete you can't go and play
- 7:13and get a job on the side. Yeah.
- 7:16And they're like just that, that to that point, you know, it's
- 7:19just when even when you get to the league, the average NFL
- 7:23career is just over three years. Yeah.
- 7:26So, yeah. So, you know, you do that And
- 7:28look, they're changing every other penalty to NFL rules like
- 7:34offensive pass interference was reduced from a 15 yard penalty,
- 7:3710 yard penalty to match the NFL.
- 7:40The review process conferences can initiate an appeal for the
- 7:44second targeting penalty to the national coordinator of
- 7:48officials via video review. You know.
- 7:51You're right. That's one of the things they
- 7:53said. Let's see.
- 7:54No, we're talking about offense, pass interference, 15 to 10.
- 7:57We had touched on like so we we had touched on some of these
- 8:00things previously. Yeah.
- 8:02Like they have a full write up. Yeah, but here's the from ESPN.
- 8:07Here's the new stuff on sportsmen like conduct
- 8:11penalties. It has it will be an automatic
- 8:14unsportsmanlike conduct penalty will be any player it is caught
- 8:19initiating these five actions or gestures.
- 8:21Any acts of simulating or brandishing a weapon, slashing
- 8:25his throat or wipe the nose, wipe signal, removing helmet
- 8:29after the ball is dead, dead ball contact files such as
- 8:33pushing, shoving, striking. You know that norm?
- 8:35The normal stuff. Right.
- 8:38That occurred clearly after the ball is dead and then not part
- 8:41of the game action. Using forcible conduct contact
- 8:44to push or pull an opponent off the pile after the ball is dead.
- 8:48Yeah, but you know, here's one of the, in my opinion, one of
- 8:51the biggest rule changes, 2 replay challenges.
- 8:54Yes, the big, big one right there.
- 8:57Yeah, the head coach will now have two replays per game, and
- 9:03if a coach wins at least one of the first two challenges,
- 9:06they're awarded the third challenge.
- 9:09The challenges still can only be initiated if it's only if the
- 9:13team has a time out remaining and available.
- 9:17If the challenge is successful, there won't be charged at a time
- 9:20out. There's nothing new there.
- 9:23You know, just it kept when you're using breaking that down,
- 9:25it kind of it kind of similar to the ABS system in in baseball,
- 9:29like so you only get 2, you get 2 out reviews, but if you win
- 9:35the review, you maintain it basically and just like, and
- 9:38just throughout the game. So you could, you could review
- 9:41as much as you want as long as you win in the challenge.
- 9:44That just that just what that's what made me think about because
- 9:46like I remember when the when the baseball series started this
- 9:49year, it was like a huge phenomenon because it was long
- 9:52overdue for one. Like I, I would see like
- 9:55especially back in April made like you would, you could see
- 9:57like all the crowd celebrates people really getting into it.
- 10:00Like like you get loud just loud chance you get.
- 10:03Loud and proud. Oh my God, it was such a
- 10:06phenomenon. No tennis like just sidebar like
- 10:09tennis. Been doing like the that that
- 10:12system for many years, but like, it's just finally coming to
- 10:15baseball, so it's long overdue. But it's coming to college
- 10:19baseball. Yes, and we had talked about
- 10:21that as well. I like that.
- 10:23Yes, the only. Thing with that is, you know,
- 10:26some schools, smaller schools don't have that, right?
- 10:30I feel like if you have a football, college football team,
- 10:33you can push out these rules. You know, baseball, some of
- 10:37these teams don't even have, well, I guess they'll have the
- 10:39technology because they play it like Creighton plays it.
- 10:44Charles Schwab for their season, that's the They play on the
- 10:47College World Series stage. They'll have that.
- 10:51Yeah. You know, but other big changes
- 10:55from now. Coaster player communications
- 10:58through helmet is now permissible for all NCAA
- 11:01divisions. Helmet attachments such as
- 11:04gardening caps, the SARF helmet cover that enhance player safety
- 11:09are now allowed. All helmets with or without
- 11:13attachment must be of the same color and design as the school.
- 11:18And here's another big one that people don't like.
- 11:21Up to two sponsor patches are allowed on jerseys with
- 11:25conference approval. 1/3 patch is allowed in the conference
- 11:30championship for postseason games.
- 11:34Logos must not exceed 4 square inches.
- 11:37One commercial logo not to exceed A4 inch square is
- 11:42permitted on the helmet. Those officials are going to
- 11:45have them. Kids walking out there on that
- 11:48field and coaches walking out there on that field.
- 11:51Does your fingers cover it up? Does your fingers cover it up?
- 11:57Your fingers cover it up, you do it.
- 11:59If not, you got to go get another uniform.
- 12:02Well. This.
- 12:03I mean, like, I know people don't like change.
- 12:06A lot of people just know the change.
- 12:08No, but my thing is like, this ain't NASCAR.
- 12:11NASCAR got a whole body of like you could be listen, this ain't
- 12:14that it, it'll not be NASCAR and they ain't got to do that
- 12:17necessarily anyway because you have a car.
- 12:19So there's so much more you could put on it for one.
- 12:22And then just that helps brand their sport and that's always
- 12:25unique. That's what that was always
- 12:26unique about race cars or NASCAR specifically, but.
- 12:30You know what I'm starting? To worry.
- 12:32Yeah, yeah, Go ahead. Go.
- 12:33Ahead about the patches, I start to worry about the patches when
- 12:36they go on the screens, when you watch them from home and it's
- 12:40just one, it's like a green screen.
- 12:42It's just the logo instead of the player that's throwing the
- 12:46stuff around. Then I start to worry about it.
- 12:50Yeah. And that's another one about
- 12:51that. It's like like you guys have and
- 12:54it's not just with this this change in particular.
- 12:56You guys are going to watch either way bro.
- 12:57Like this, you guys complaining for like you go, you go gripe
- 13:02about it bro. You still on Saturday night, LSU
- 13:05play Clifton. Y'all still going to y'all going
- 13:07to be tuned and locked in. 100% OK another one when I start to
- 13:12worry about it too is if they change major changes to
- 13:17historically beautiful uniforms. Like the well known historic LSU
- 13:23wears white and gold. They make a change to that where
- 13:26you can't see none of that. I have a problem with it.
- 13:31Yeah, because. Then you just messing with the
- 13:36traditional aspect. As far as patches on their
- 13:39jerseys, I don't care. But I don't even, I mean, just
- 13:42you, you still don't watch like unless, unless they have like,
- 13:46like what was was that's what I forgot what the company is like.
- 13:51If they have like the whole thing covering the whole
- 13:54uniform, like they have the logos covering the tiger and LSU
- 13:57and the helmets, then that's different.
- 14:00That's different. But like, I mean bro, you're
- 14:03going to be OK. Yeah, but you know some of these
- 14:07to me, some of these rules are should have already been made.
- 14:11Yes. They seem obvious to me.
- 14:12Some of them should be. They don't make any sense to
- 14:16implement. Them to me.
- 14:17Which one in particular? The 15 to. 10.
- 14:20Yeah, yeah. You know honestly that to me.
- 14:23You want to know why it seemed pointless to me for that one.
- 14:26What's that? Because I always thought it was
- 14:2810. I mean, some of these officials
- 14:31when they walk stuff off and I'll say a 15 yard penalty and
- 14:33walk out 10 yards, you know. But you know, Speaking of rules
- 14:40and stuff, did you see that Oklahoma's Tulsa Little League
- 14:43team got disqualified from the championship to go to
- 14:46Williamsport? I heard about that.
- 14:49Partuno, Louisiana team into the championship game.
- 14:53You know, man, drama. Drama.
- 14:56Yep. And.
- 14:58Apparently there's deeper issues because they're talking about a
- 15:01full on legal battle. Yeah, and I'm like.
- 15:04And I'm like, didn't they just, didn't they get, I saw a video,
- 15:07didn't they get caught stealing, trying to steal science?
- 15:11I think so. I'm like my gosh bro.
- 15:15It's literally the one. Year old, that's what.
- 15:16See what? Happens to the kids.
- 15:19Like I see big, like, I mean, it's serious, don't get me
- 15:23wrong. It's winning sport.
- 15:24Go to winning sport. The series.
- 15:25I'm not. I'm not me, I'm not but.
- 15:26It's not, it's. Like it's.
- 15:28Children's It's children's Little League baseball.
- 15:32Why are grown men in women costing the team a chance to go
- 15:40to Williamsport? Because you want to win so bad
- 15:43you can't follow the rules. But but see, and that's why
- 15:46that's why I get so annoyed when people when I hear people, they
- 15:49crap on kids about this, this generate like I'm like, listen,
- 15:53the corruption starts at the top.
- 15:56It always started to like whether it's like executively or
- 15:59just with the the parenting law, like it's that's how it always
- 16:04is. I'm like, but stop.
- 16:06I'm not saying the kid the perfect, but I'm just saying
- 16:09look at the track record in the college game.
- 16:12Well, I know we talk about Little League, but just like in
- 16:13every, every aspect, like, come on, it's it's.
- 16:16I mean, look, there was when we were in college, I worked at
- 16:20Cypress Mountains and they had the World Series, I think it was
- 16:23the World Series and they disqualified A-Team because they
- 16:27blatantly over pitched the kid. Like you can only throw so many
- 16:31pitches in a day or party inning or something.
- 16:33And this kid was rocking at 101 of the parents was clocking it
- 16:39and they disqualified team. The team came out in 3rd even
- 16:43though they were disqualified, got their trophies.
- 16:47I had to go pick up trophies and dodge trophies because parents
- 16:50were throwing them at us like the kids were.
- 16:57The kids were happy they got a trophy, but the parents were
- 17:00throwing them and taking away the joyous moment.
- 17:03As like some people, and that's another thing, like there's so
- 17:06many parents out there. They want to be the star.
- 17:10They want to be so involved. Or my best friend from like
- 17:13elementary school, He's told me that because like, you know, he,
- 17:15he goes out to his Little League games and stuff, you know,
- 17:18family. But just like it's do you want
- 17:22to be like this is not about yes, you, you got to transport
- 17:26your kid from place to practice to practice game the game.
- 17:28I get that, but just you're not the star in this in this
- 17:32instance, yeah, you taken away from like the purity of that
- 17:37that age group. Yeah, now if it's a senior day
- 17:41for a high school sport or if they're lucky enough to make it
- 17:45to college and it's a senior day, that's when you get your
- 17:48little moment to shine. Not a big moment.
- 17:50Yeah, that's totally different. Yeah, yeah, I'm not too much.
- 17:52Yeah, that's for. Sure, like championship.
- 17:54Yeah. Not a big moment.
- 17:56Yeah, you get a very small moment to go walk out there and
- 18:01be with your kid on one of their biggest nights.
- 18:05Yes, of course. That's that's fine, That's your
- 18:07moment. But you don't get to call a
- 18:09coach and get thrown out of Little League games and
- 18:12everything because you can't handle well, umpire calls the
- 18:16game. So, so ridiculous though, And
- 18:19they and they a lot of people, they make it a lot of those
- 18:21parents, they make it so tough to enjoy.
- 18:23I mean this like I mean like. We'll thank.
- 18:27You, but that'll do it for us. For this rule change episode, I
- 18:30think we covered everything you know, like follow, share,
- 18:35subscribe, hit the notifications so you can know we're going to

- 18:55something like that. Maybe work, maybe work a little
- 18:58website or something where we can post everything.
- 19:02Yeah, I like the. Yeah.
