- 1:27and his father, who's also a pilot. Hamilton says he
- 1:31looks forward to his new career of spotting forest fires
- 1:34flying out of the Wendellford Airport in Perry County. He's
- 1:37also licensed to fly others and their planes to other destinations.
- 1:42In the future, he plans to get his multi engine

- 1:48After sixteen hundred hours, larger airlines such as Delta and
- 1:51American Airlines begin looking at pilots, and he'll be eligible

- 9:13now and once at the end of this recording before
- 9:16giving the answer. Stay tuned until the end to see
- 9:19if you got it right. Guess who I Am? A
- 9:25model born in England on May twenty second, nineteen seventy.
- 9:29As a child, I studied ballet and was discovered at
- 9:32age fifteen. During the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties, I
- 9:36helped popularize the term supermodel. Students and teachers think they
- 9:41have it rough by Bob Deaton. At one time, Breathittt
- 9:45County had over one hundred one or two room schoolhouses
- 9:49scattered all over the five hundred square miles of Breathett County.
- 9:53Many teachers taught all eight grades. Many teachers had to
- 9:57board with one of the parents in the community because
- 10:00as of the isolated communities and the lack of good roads.
- 10:03The age of students ranged from about six to seventeen
- 10:06or eighteen years. Often some students were about the same
- 10:10age as their teacher, who was certified by taking a
- 10:12test over the very basics of the fundamentals of math, reading,
- 10:16et cetera. Each school was located within walking distance of
- 10:19their students. Some students rode a horse or mule to
- 10:23school and would hitch their animal to a tree or
- 10:25put it in a nearby neighbor's barn. Many teachers did likewise.
- 10:30It was not unusual for one of the older students
- 10:32to marry one of their younger teachers. The many makeshift
- 10:36school buildings found in almost every hollow of Breathett County
- 10:39was little more than a shack made of boxed boards,
- 10:42or a simple one room log structure teetering on stream
- 10:46banks accessed by a wood log over the hollower creek.
- 10:50Some of these shanty type buildings had a dirt floor,
- 10:53All had a small fireplace or a pot belly stove
- 10:56for heat. Most were dark and depressing, with only one window.
- 11:00All of the students would bring their lunch to school.
- 11:03Some would bring an eight pound lard barrel filled with
- 11:06milk and corn bread, which they would share with their
- 11:08siblings or classmates. Others would bring leftovers and drink water
- 11:12from a shallow dug well or from a nearby spring.
- 11:16There were no bathrooms. A simple small building constructed over
- 11:19a hole in the ground with one hole or two
- 11:22holes cut in a bench like a seat served as
- 11:25a toilet. Often lime was used to stifle the stench
- 11:28that permeaded the air around these structures. During this era,
- 11:32teachers believed in corporal punishment for those who did not
- 11:35adhere to the strict rules predetermined by the stern teacher.
- 11:40It was not uncommon for the students to rebel and
- 11:43either whip or chase him or her out of the community. However,
- 11:46most of the teachers kept order by the very liberal
- 11:49application of a belt or long willow switch. Most of
- 11:53the parents were farmers, and during planting and harvesting season,
- 11:56school attendance was very poor as the older students stayed
- 11:59home during these seasons to help with the farming. Once
- 12:03a year, teachers in the small schools would have a
- 12:05fundraiser by having the older students and the younger parents
- 12:08baked pies to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
- 12:11The highest bidder got the pie and the pleasure of
- 12:14eating it with the pretty young lady that had baked it.
- 12:16Sometimes fights would break out over this bidding process. Usually
- 12:20a deputy sheriff would be present to stifle the troublemaker,
- 12:23who often would be drinking and looking for trouble. Contrary
- 12:27to all of the above conditions, the inhabitants of those
- 12:30primitive schools built a great nation in less than two centuries.
- 12:35Life on the Old Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe Gardening
- 12:39in Livestock. Bobby has included a picture of his grandparents,
- 12:44Aura and Isabelle feeding the hogs many years ago. Growing up,
- 12:49I became familiar with vegetable gardening since my parents, aunts, uncles,
- 12:53and grandparents all raised gardens. These weren't small gardens, but
- 12:57quite large ones. My family raised peas, green beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers,
- 13:04kil green onions, carrots, potatoes, and beets. They would freeze
- 13:10and can and can many of the vegetables and would
- 13:13also share the harvest with friends and neighbors. The early
- 13:16years of my life, a horse plow and a layoff
- 13:18plow with a wheel were used. In my grandparents younger years,
- 13:23a horse and plour used. My aunt obtained my grandfather's
- 13:26plow many years ago, and I had the pleasure of
- 13:29receiving this same plow many years later. The plow has
- 13:32been restored and served as a beautiful decorative piece in
- 13:35our yard. During my younger years, we had a walk
- 13:39behind rotor tiller, and in my adult years we had
- 13:41a rotor tiller that was self propelled. One of my
- 13:44favorite meals to day consists of fresh peas, new potatoes, lettuce,
- 13:48and onions with hot bacon, grease, fried pickled corn, cucumber
- 13:53and tomato slices, and a piece of corn bread with butter.
- 13:56My dad always enjoyed this meal with a glass of buttermilk.
- 14:00I can remember many days traveling to the strip jobs
- 14:03up South Fork with my aunt and uncle, loading the
- 14:06pickup truck with horse manure and unloading it in the
- 14:08garden to till into the soil. My grandparents also raise
- 14:12chickens and hogs to feed the family. These are great
- 14:15memories from growing up on the old dirt road. So
- 14:19be it by Pastor Naomi. God collects tears. Have you
- 14:24ever felt you were on the edge of tears just
- 14:26needing a good cry? You didn't know why you're feeling
- 14:29that way. Other times you've cried a lot from bad
- 14:32news or felt a great burden's burden about something or
- 14:35some one. The Bible offers comfort regarding tears, emphasizing that
- 14:40God sees, collects, and will eventually wipe away every tear.
- 14:45Psalm fifty six eight. God bottles our tears indicates that
- 14:49no tear is wasted, and they are precious to God.
- 14:52Revelation twenty one four, No More Tears in Heaven and
- 14:56Matthew five four Blessed of those who mourn. These verses
- 14:59highlight divine comfort for sorrow, even Jesus wept. Psalm fifty
- 15:04six eight speaks of David's trust in God's intimate awareness
- 15:07of his life and sufferings. The verse reads, thou tellest
- 15:11my wanderings, Put thou my tears into thy bottle? Are
- 15:15they not in thy book? Here wanderings refers to David's
- 15:19movements and trials, often during times of danger or persecution,
- 15:24such as fleeing from enemies. The phrase put thou my
- 15:27tears into thy bottle symbolizes God collecting and remembering every
- 15:31sorrow and tear, preserving them as precious and significant the
- 15:35question are they not in thy book emphasizes that God
- 15:38records and oversees all aspects of David's life, including his grief.
- 15:44Psalm fifty six is a prayer of supplication and trust
- 15:47written by David when he was captured by the Philistines
- 15:50in Gath. The psalm reflects his fear, oppression, and the
- 15:54plotting of enemies, and it also demonstrates his unwavering faith
- 15:58that God is aware of his struggles and will deliver him.
- 16:02God is attentive to us, and he notices every movement
- 16:05and trial of his people. The Lord remembers every tear.
- 16:09Tears are metaphorically stored in a bottle, signifying that God
- 16:12values and remembers human suffering. We can be assured that
- 16:16the book represents God's record of life, showing that nothing
- 16:19is forgotten and all is under his providence. This verse
- 16:24should encourage every believer to trust that God sees and
- 16:27remembers their pain, even when human circumstances seem overwhelming. It
- 16:32reassures that sorrow is not wasted. God transforms it into
- 16:36a pair of his part of his divine plan, offering
- 16:39comfort and hope. That every tear is acknowledged and will
- 16:43ultimately be redeemed. Revelation twenty one four says, and God
- 16:48will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There shall
- 16:51be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall
- 16:54be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.
- 16:58Matthew five four says, blessed are those who mourn, for
- 17:01they shall be comforted. Psalm thirty four eighteen says the
- 17:05Lord is nearer to the broken hearted and saves the
- 17:08crushed in spirit. Psalm one twenty six five says those
- 17:13who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
- 17:17John eleven thirty five says Jesus wept, showing that God
- 17:20is acquainted with grief and sympathizes with human pain. God
- 17:26is close to those who are suffering, rather than indifferent
- 17:29to their pain. The Bible promises a future state Revelation
- 17:32twenty one four, where He shall wipe away all tears
- 17:35from our eyes. Just remember, your tears are never wasted.
- 17:39They're precious to God. Turn to the comfort of the
- 17:42Holy Spirit and let him help you by showing you
- 17:45the great promises in the Word of God. Amen. So
- 17:49be it from the Councillor's Desk by Randy Cloth. You're
- 17:55not weak, You're human. I was recently reading a book
- 17:59about a youngster with severe panic attacks and depression. He
- 18:03was the pastor of a large church. He was well
- 18:06liked and respected by his church. He had a beautiful home,
- 18:09a loving wife, and three wonderful young sons. Even though
- 18:14he had so much going on for him, he had
- 18:16major mental health issues. The stress and stress and pressures
- 18:20of being a pastor at a young age likely contributed
- 18:23to his illness. Sadly, what was somewhat surprising to me
- 18:26was those who seemed to lack understanding of his mental
- 18:29health problems. I thought people today would have more understanding
- 18:33of these things, but I guess that's not always the case.
- 18:37It seems to me that people today should be more
- 18:39understanding and knowledgeable about depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and other
- 18:44serious mental health issues. Indeed, these things are all too
- 18:48common today, and perhaps for a good reason. I know,
- 18:52when dealing with serious illness, financial problems, difficulty dealing with
- 18:56personal business, relationship strife and grief, and life loss issues,
- 19:01the stressors of modern society, wars, economic woes, terrorism, crime,
- 19:06and political division. If you add trauma, bad experiences from
- 19:10the past, lack of support, and even family genetics. It's
- 19:14no wonder that perhaps you and many others are having issues.
- 19:18All this to say that there should be no more
- 19:20understand There should be more understanding concerning all this, Considering
- 19:24all this, honestly, anyone can be troubled by challenges to
- 19:28mental health, if not by the grace of God. As
- 19:30they say, understanding, compassion, kindness, and patience would be great
- 19:36things for society in general. Don't you think we would
- 19:39do well to be more understanding with others and ourselves
- 19:41for that matter. If you need help, find a caring
- 19:45person or professional health care worker to talk to, someone
- 19:48who will really listen and perhaps give you wise guidance.
- 19:52I have people who tell me all the time that
- 19:54it helps to have someone to talk to. Remember, no
- 19:57matter what challenges you you may be facing, keep hoping, praying, believing,
- 20:02and trusting, and do not give up. If you or
- 20:06someone you know is dealing with severe emotional distress, hopelessness,
- 20:09and thoughts of suicide, please remember that professional help is
- 20:13always available. Call or encourage those to call the crisis
- 20:16line at one eight hundred two six two seven four
- 20:20nine one, which is also the Veteran's Crisis Lifeline, or
- 20:24go to the emergency room. This article provides general guidance
- 20:27and educational information on mental health. It is not a
- 20:30substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have
- 20:34any questions or concerns about your mental health, it is
- 20:37essential to consult a qualified mental health provider or physician. Remember,
- 20:42seeking professional help is a crucial step and managing mental
- 20:45health conditions. In sports, Combs honored as twenty twenty six
- 20:51Male Comeback Athlete of the Year. UK health Care sports
- 20:56Medicine presented the twenty twenty six Male come Back Athlete
- 20:59of the Year Award to Breathett County High School junior
- 21:02Kylin Combs during the championship game of the KHSAA Boys
- 21:07Sweet sixteen State Basketball Tournament at Rapparina on Saturday, March
- 21:11twenty first. The award is given to a student who
- 21:14returned to play after overcoming adversity and injuries that limited
- 21:19their participation in KHSAA competition. In May twenty twenty four,
- 21:24Combs was involved in a car accident and spent several
- 21:27days on life support at UK's Albert B. Chandler hospital,
- 21:31Combs suffered multiple skull fractures and needed surgery to save
- 21:35one of his eyes. His pelvis was crushed and doctors
- 21:39didn't know if he would ever walk again. Through faith
- 21:42and work ethic, as well as the support of UK
- 21:44Healthcare's expert care team and a community of loved ones
- 21:47around him, Combs defied the odds. He didn't just play
