- Adam Rutz: On December 1st, 2023, Curt Cignetti stood at his introductory press conference as the new head football coach at Indiana University. He was taking over a team that had gone three and nine the year before and a program that had built a reputation as one of the worst in all of college football. For years, Indiana was viewed as a program that just flat out could not win. And during that press conference, Cignetti said something that I think applies to every single person listening to this. He said. There will be no self-imposed limitations on what we can accomplish. Think about that. No self-imposed limitations. He talked about changing the culture, changing the mindset, changing the expectation level, and then doing it through a day-by-day process focused on the present moment and getting better every single day. Two seasons later, Indiana went 16-0 and stood on top of the mountain as national champions. That doesn't happen because somebody wakes up one morning and magically becomes great. First, somebody has to believe that the mountain can actually be climbed. Then the work starts. And that's where I want you to think about your own life. What's your mountain right now? Maybe it's building the business you've always wanted. Maybe it's becoming the athlete you know you're capable of becoming. Maybe it's transforming your health. Maybe it's becoming a better leader. Better spouse, better parent, or better teammate, whatever your mountain is, stop putting limitations on what you think is possible. Set the vision, believe in it, and then bring yourself right back to today. Because you don't climb a mountain by staring at the top of it, you climb the mountain one step at a time. One workout, one practice, one sales call, one difficult conversation, one disciplined decision, one great day stacked on top of another. Belief matters, but belief has to change the way you prepare, the standard you hold yourself to, and the way you execute today. So ask yourself: what would I start doing differently today if I truly believed I could accomplish what I'm chasing? Then go do that. No self-imposed limitations. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
