- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:11episodes four seventy three, four seventy four, and four seventy five. The
- 0:15encircling walls activated, the white Beard Pirates backed into a corner, execution order
- 0:21issued, break through the encircling walls, and moving into the final phase white
- 0:27Beard's trump card for recovery. In these episodes, finally the bad guys ask
- 0:35the question, why don't we just kill us immediately right now, without announcing
- 0:40it, without letting anybody see it. We just get this show on the
- 0:44road. How about that? And I was like, I really didn't think
- 0:48you guys were gonna think of that at this point. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 1:11Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much
- 1:15to Florian for commissioning this episode. So yeah, you guys, this these
- 1:21episodes are honestly, really, these were kind of fun. I was sort
- 1:26of worried because I'm gonna be honest, even though I did really like these.
- 1:34The episodes ended with Lufy running, running, running, saying hold on
- 1:41Ace, I'll be there soon, and like that's how every set of episodes
- 1:47has ended for about a month. So there is a part of me that's
- 1:52sort of like, come on, can we can we please? Can we
- 1:57get it moving? But I think things got moving in this trio of episodes
- 2:04more than in the last few. There have been some progress made in terms
- 2:09of like the information that the audience is working with, but not really the
- 2:15action. And this had less information and more action. So reminder, we
- 2:23have this like really interesting, weird setup for the marine headquarters, but it's
- 2:29sort of a bay with like a pincer like formation to get inside. So
- 2:35there's this like area that's a lot easier to defend, that's very very narrow,
- 2:40and it's the spot where I think all of the like kumabots are lined
- 2:46up and trying to take out the ships that are attempting to join them.
- 2:52But when we start this episode four seventy three, we cap what had happened
- 3:00with white Beard, and he liked you know, had just been accused of
- 3:07selling out all of his allies and everything. And he tells this dude basically,
- 3:16first of all, I can't believe you'd even believe that story. That's
- 3:21ridiculous. Secondly, you're an idiot, but I still love you because you're
- 3:27my son, and thirdly, let me destroy these ice walls real quick.
- 3:32And everybody, of course, is sort of like the thing with betraying this
- 3:40dude is that he sets such an example of forgiveness that it's like inspires so
- 3:50much more loyalty than anything else. And I really want to talk about white
- 3:55Beard just as a character a little bit, because you guys had asked a
- 4:00while back, what do I expect from him? And there was a part
- 4:05of me that really wanted to like him, because if Ace liked him,
- 4:10I felt like we had seen that Ace seemed to have like pretty decent judgment
- 4:13and seemed really loyal, And I was like, Okay, look, if
- 4:16I'm meant to like Ace and trust his judgment, then white Beard has had
- 4:23to prove that he's like worthy of this somehow. But I also was so
- 4:27afraid that there was something else up, and not even that he was like
- 4:33going to betray Ace, because that wouldn't why would why show up? You
- 4:36know that it didn't really fall in line with what was happening, But I
- 4:45sort of wondered if it was going to turn out is a kind of afraid
- 4:48of him or feels like he owes him in a way, that's being taken
- 4:53advantage of or exploited or something. And you know, seeing the way that
- 4:59everything has been shown to us about Ace's relationship with white Beard and the camaraderie
- 5:05of his crew, the way that they like look out for each other,
- 5:10except notable exception Buggy, who wound up leaving. So he doesn't really count
- 5:15for me because he left due to the fact that he didn't fit in.
- 5:19He left because he wanted to do his own thing. One could say that
- 5:24it's not about fitting in, but it is though, like the fact that
- 5:27he didn't want to be part of a team led to him leaving and that
- 5:32made him not fit in. So white Beard has been shown repeatedly to be
- 5:42this leader that is so I don't even want to say charismatic because that implies
- 5:49something very surface level and that's not actually what's happening here. I don't feel
- 5:56like he has been shown to be somebody who put it's money, where as
- 6:00mouthes, I think is the way I want to say this more. White
- 6:03Beard is like the kind of manager that actually works the floor, and anybody
- 6:10who has worked in retail or food service, you know what I'm talking about
- 6:14when I say that there are two types of managers. There are the ones
- 6:18that used to be on the floor years and years back. The world has
- 6:24completely changed since they had that position, and they have not worked that kind
- 6:30of job in so long that they have forgotten how it goes, and all
- 6:35they wanted was to be free of that type of labor, either because it
- 6:42was grueling, because they didn't like being subordinate to somebody, and now they
- 6:46enjoy being on top because either they like bossing people or they just like an
- 6:50easier job or whatever. And that is the type of boss that it's really
- 6:55hard to work for because they expect things of you that are totally un reasonable,
- 7:00and they would know they weren't reasonable if they had any recent experience with
- 7:04the job, but instead they're just like from on high, giving you these
- 7:09absurd expectations, and it can feel like they are part of a completely different
- 7:15universe than the one that you're operating in. And then there are the managers
- 7:19who are still doing the job, and those are superior, not just for
- 7:28the people who work below them, but for the business they manage. It's
- 7:31just better. These are people who are in the mix. They see how
- 7:39difficult some of the situations are how maybe the workflow is set up in a
- 7:43way that isn't optimal and they will fix that because they are in the mix
- 7:47of that workflow every day and they can see, oh, that doesn't make
- 7:50any sense, you know, like the kinds of changes that if you brought
- 7:55it to the first type of manager, they would be like, I don't
- 7:57understand why you can't just make this work. And I'm like, of course
- 8:00you don't understand, because you haven't stood here for six hours trying to use
- 8:05this bullshit workflow. And they're the people who when someone calls out, they
- 8:13fill in. They don't leave you short staffed because somebody called out and that
- 8:20just sucks for you. So that kind of everybody starts blaming the person that
- 8:24called out instead of management, and maybe they'll call some people in and try
- 8:28and get somebody else from ours, but they don't just immediately, like you
- 8:33know what I'm saying. And that kind of manager is somebody that feels like
- 8:41they have stake in the game. Their shit is on the line as well
- 8:46every day along with you. They get beat down by the rush the way
- 8:52that you do when things are out of stock. They have to be on
- 8:56the front line taking shit from customers who are pissed about it. The way
- 8:58that you do everything that you suffer as an employee, they also wind up
- 9:05having to suffer. And they may have more power in the moment because of
- 9:07their position, but it's still like they're on the front lines with you.
- 9:13And white Beard is not only like that type, but also the fact that
- 9:22he has like normally in someplace when you're a planning for a job and they're
- 9:26like, we're like a family here, the translation on that is we are
- 9:28toxic. We are the kind of family that you dread going to Thanksgiving because
- 9:33you know it's gonna be a fucking scene. It's gonna be drama, but
- 9:37you have to go because it's Thanksgiving and there are expectations. It's a bad
- 9:43sign. But when he talks about all of them being his sons, he
- 9:48isn't using that as a means of control. He is using that to demonstrate
- 9:56the genuine perspective that he has regarding the responsibility he feels he owes them.
- 10:05And that is what's really interesting to me is when people talk about like we're
- 10:09like a family, usually what that translates to in terms of their expectation is
- 10:16that you will feel obligated to us because you are family and you owe family.
- 10:24But what he says is sort of the opposite, where it's like,
- 10:30I owe you because I am your father and you're my kid, and there
- 10:37is an expectation of behavior from children that you know sometimes they're going to step
- 10:41out of line and do some shit, but as the parental figure, I
- 10:48owe you a level of behavior, accountability, responsibility, and even when you
- 10:58act up, I am going to come through on that. And it's really
- 11:07I think the mark of a person in general how they approach the idea of
- 11:16being in a position of authority, a parental position, because there are a
- 11:22lot of people in real parental relationships where they see their children as owing them
- 11:28for things, and in my opinion, if you have a child inflicting upon
- 11:37that child, the concept that they somehow owe you is so deeply backward and
- 11:48harmful that it flabbers my gust that people actually move through the world like that.
- 11:56And those kinds of parents leave children feeling constantly like they have to validate
- 12:01their reason for being in the world, like they make people feel always that
- 12:07they have to prove they are worthy of being alive in a way that is
- 12:13so fundamental it's really hard to explain. And I feel like there was an
- 12:20amazing TikTok a little while ago where this girl was pretending to be the insurance
- 12:28provider for like parental insurance, and basically the parents were calling up seeing what
- 12:33kind of coverage they had because they had had a daughter who grew up and
- 12:37then stopped calling or coming by for holidays, and they wanted to know like
- 12:43what kind of coverage they had to get damages for how they were being treated
- 12:48as parents. And there were all different levels of packages for this insurance plan,
- 12:54and they were really upset because they said, well, we you know,
- 12:58put a roof over her head and on her plane. She was like,
- 13:01yes, yes, that is the basic package. And the whole point
- 13:07behind this skit was that there are folks out there who seem to believe that
- 13:13just doing the bare minimum of feeding, clothing, and housing their child means
- 13:20that their child owes them some type of behavior. It's asinine. Your children
- 13:28are children and they need a person to have them because they want to raise
- 13:37a whole human being. And a lot of people do not go into parenthood
- 13:41with that frame of mind. They want, oftentimes a little version of themselves
- 13:48and they want somebody who behaves like a grown up right away, who will
- 13:54contribute to the household right away, or you know, just have no independent
- 14:01thought or personality or emotions. And it's just in like, I know I've
- 14:09gotten off topic here, guys, but it's just something that I find really
- 14:13important because when I see the way that some people behave towards their children,
- 14:20the lack of grace that they give for kids having big emotional reactions to things,
- 14:26dismissing them, calling them like dramatic or like just having a different perspective
- 14:33that stays with you, you know, being told that you are overreacting and
- 14:41dramatic. I mean maybe they are, and you know, like so what,
- 14:46or just in general, belittling somebody's feelings as invalid or not respecting their
- 14:52privacy. The number of people that go around reading their kids' diaries and stuff,
- 14:56checking their internet history, stalking their profile, everything, Like, there
- 15:01is a point where it's your responsibility to make sure your kid's safe, and
- 15:03then there's a point where I think you could tell the difference between doing the
- 15:07responsible thing and being nosy and wanting to control somebody's life. And a lot
- 15:16of people just seem to have a really hard time drawing that distinction anyway.
- 15:22All this to say, the approach that white Beard takes, it seems to
- 15:26me, is the much more difficult, but ultimately more rewarding path of I
- 15:33am going to consider myself responsible. There's almost a sense of like, if
- 15:37you fucked up, then it's partially my fault. Not really, but like
- 15:43it is a reflection on me a bit, you know what I mean.
- 15:48And I think that those types of leaders are respected in a way that I
- 15:58don't know there's another way to reach that kind of respect. It's just constantly
- 16:03putting your money where your mouth is, showing that you can make a stirring
- 16:08speech, but when the chips are down, you're actually gonna do what you
- 16:12said. You're actually gonna put yourself on the line. And I really want
- 16:19to embody this kind of attitude in my own life. And I think that
- 16:25there's a series I'm covering for spoil Me called Red Rising, and the character,
- 16:29the main character in that, I think, is trying to embody this
- 16:32sort of ethos as well. And it can be hard because there are people
- 16:37that, it really feels like, do not deserve the kind of grace that
- 16:41he offers. But that's sort of the point, is like the the gig
- 16:51is about how people may not seem to deserve it, and you will do
- 16:59it anyway, because the point is having faith in them, not determining whether
- 17:07they deserve like a certain kind of forgiveness, but more that you are demonstrating
- 17:15to that person they get another chance to be better, and that you believe
- 17:21that they can, that they're capable of it. And that doesn't mean that
- 17:25you endlessly let somebody fuck around, because they eventually do have to find out.
- 17:29But sometimes people just make mistakes, and it's really easy and quippy to
- 17:40just like act like you're gonna cut somebody off the first time they fuck up.
- 17:44It's easy to say that and it's easy to feel that way. But
- 17:48offering people forgiveness sometimes is just so generous and kind, And you know,
- 18:00I just really like him. I thought. That's really what I'm coming down
- 18:03to, is I like white Beard, and I feel like the whole vibe
- 18:07of him. It makes sense why his men are so devoted and why they
- 18:15like are so ready to throw their lives away to try and free ace,
- 18:18because they see this as like are their responsibility as well the fact that Ace
- 18:26is in this position. If they can do anything, they will. So
- 18:33this is when I just want to mention, like, you know, white
- 18:37Beard got stabbed in the gut, and it doesn't seem like white Beard is
- 18:45affected by this at all. He's got blood coming out of his mouth,
- 18:49little blood still on his chest. There is you know, it's clear that
- 18:55the injury was a real injury, but it doesn't seem like it has done
- 19:00anything to diminish his performance in this. So I'm not sure if it's supposed
- 19:04to be that the stab just didn't have the effect people are used to because
- 19:11his body is different because he is stronger and it, you know, like,
- 19:17or if it's supposed to be that he's just pushing through the pain of
- 19:21it and it's gonna eventually like catch up to him and have the effect that
- 19:25it would have had on a normal person a lot sooner. So at this
- 19:30point, like they fire some cannonballs at him, he literally just sends them
- 19:36flying right back. I know that he had the tremor tremor frou I'm not
- 19:40totally sure how that really, like how he manifests that to throw the cannonballs
- 19:47back. I'm assuming it's somehow like a vibration in the air that they hit,
- 19:53but it's hard to tell because they really do not go into a lot
- 19:56of detail. It's it's sort of interesting to me the way that this is
- 20:00being approached because a lot of the characters that we have met who have,
- 20:06you know, these devil fruit powers, we'll almost get like a little rundown
- 20:11of everything they're capable of from the character themselves. You know, they'll roll
- 20:18in and be like, haha, I ate the you know, explode explody
- 20:23fruit, and that means that I can explode any part of my body,
- 20:29and I can do this, and I can do that, So good luck
- 20:32to you, buddy. And as we're like getting further along in things,
- 20:36we're coming across people who we hear like what fruit they ate through the grape
- 20:41vine. That's funny or just sort of you know, the person like it's
- 20:48an off handed comment, but they don't really explain everything that they're capable of
- 20:56or even give like a full explanation of what that fruit does for them,
- 21:00and it leaves us to sort of have to fill in the blanks, pay
- 21:04a lot of attention about how they're able to do things, and put two
- 21:10and two together ourselves. But it also I think this is a good thing.
- 21:15It also leaves the door open for things that we aren't prepared to see.
- 21:22So if somebody attacks them in a certain way, instead of just being
- 21:26like, oh, they'll do XYZ in order to counter that, because we've
- 21:30seen that before, we'll see them counter it, and it will be like,
- 21:36I'm pretty sure cannonballs aren't just gonna like hit white Beard. I don't
- 21:40think that's happened, But I don't know how he's going to counter these.
- 21:42I don't know, you know, what kind of of defensive magic he's got
- 21:48in his pocket, And when we see it happen, I can't put my
- 21:51finger on exactly what it is he did. And I'm assuming all of this
- 21:59information is going to be sort of given to us later in more detail.
- 22:03But I just think it's interesting that at this point the way that these characters
- 22:11are being handled in the narrative is really really different. They're being dropped in
- 22:17without explanations, I think, probably to be more intimidating and imposing in the
- 22:22moment, so that because you know, it's like like actual stage magic,
- 22:27once you explain it, it can be a little bit less impressive, so
- 22:33maybe just sort of be like, oh, yeah, that man can counter
- 22:36cannons. Oh my god, how I don't worry about it. He can
- 22:38though, and I actually think that this is a good move. So this
- 22:47is the point where they're trying to raise the walls because there are these like
- 22:52automated walls that come up to above the edges of like the parapet what is
- 22:59it called the sky folding that Ace is on, and this is supposed to
- 23:04really like not only lock the pirates out of the headquarters here, but also
- 23:14put them in a fish bowl where all of these like weapons can be pointed
- 23:19at them and they can't get out quickly because there isn't an escape that's easy.
- 23:27And I could not stop laughing because the point the issue is with these
- 23:34guys that Aokige that's how you say his name, right, is the one
- 23:41who did the fucking ice and he has caused this like layer that's so thick
- 23:48that they can't raise the walls enough to like they're getting stuck. I love
- 23:57the fact that it was somebody on their own side that did this. That
- 24:00is so funny to me. And eventually they just like redirect all of the
- 24:07power of the entire island into the mechanism and it does shove through the ice,
- 24:15but it takes a while before they do that. And it seems like
- 24:19none of the pirates were aware of these walls. I don't know if that's
- 24:22true, or if like the heads of these groups the captains did know and
- 24:27they just didn't tell their inferiors or what. But a lot of the pirates
- 24:33seem truly startled when the walls go up and are just like, what the
- 24:37fuck is happening? It's it's it was actually I thought animated, well,
- 24:45like the feeling of being closed in and all of these like murder holes basically
- 24:52in the wall that I'm like, oh boy, what's going to be coming
- 24:55out of those? And just how trapped they really seemed. I felt,
- 25:00you know, now there's something that they didn't consider though, and I thought
- 25:06this was amazing. Is fucking ores too. His body is laying straight over
- 25:15the like section of wall, directly in front of the scaffolding where Ace is,
- 25:23so it's the first of all, the weight of him is keeping it
- 25:29in place. But it seems even if they moved his body, he was
- 25:34bleeding so heavily and he's so huge that when he's bleeding, it's serious.
- 25:41It like drained into the openings of their gear system and is fucking it all
- 25:49up. And I like really enjoyed how the camera just goes around to all
- 25:59of these different pirates who are like, oh, Oors is even fighting the
- 26:02good fight after death? You know, spoilers, It turns out that Oors
- 26:06is still alive. He seems to die again. I don't know whether to
- 26:11believe that either, but uh, he you know, he's making himself useful
- 26:18from so it seems at the moment beyond the grave and good for you oars.
- 26:23Meanwhile, fucking squard over here, you guys. We have such a
- 26:27long segment with him sobbing, crying with regret over how he misjudged Pops.
- 26:36He can't believe that he got fooled the way that he did. He feels
- 26:40like such an idiot, and the fact that he was just like angry and
- 26:44jealous and whatever because the whole thing with who Ace's father is and whatnot.
- 26:51And eventually Marco just comes up to him and is like, hey, dude,
- 26:55because he's like curled up on the ground crying, and he just says,
- 26:59get your shit together. Basically, so yeah, he finally because there's
- 27:04it's very self pitying, really, you know, So, Okay, I'm
- 27:11gonna have to sort of move things along here. But the good news is
- 27:15that it'll be pretty easy because a lot of what happens is it takes a
- 27:22lot longer to show than it does to tell. So there's like an admiral
- 27:27who is a giant, and he sees all of these pirates beginning to try
- 27:33and like storm them, and he comes out to take care of them.
- 27:37He's quite humongous, like it's the sword that he brings down on white Beard
- 27:45is about the size of three of my house put together, end to end,
- 27:55and he brings it slamming down and white Beard blocks the blow with a
- 28:00sword that's like not even a sixteenth of the size, and he says,
- 28:04you're blocking my view. Move and he like shoves back and he sends this
- 28:11pirate or this sorry admiral flying backward, looking truly shocked. And then he
- 28:21does something. I'm trying to understand what this is, but he reaches up
- 28:29to the side with his fingers curled like he's digging them into something in the
- 28:33air, and he pulls down really really strong and hard, and all of
- 28:44a sudden it They think at first that it's just the island that's beginning to
- 28:48tip, but the ocean is also tilting, and so everybody sort of gets
- 28:56knocked off their feet and begins to slide sideways. I can't figure out what
- 29:04this is and how this like is linked to the tremor tremor fruit. I
- 29:11assume that it's like something to do with the way that he can make earthquakes,
- 29:18you know, but an earthquake doesn't really do this. And I think
- 29:26I'm supposed to believe and probably considering the way this place is built, it
- 29:33is true and makes sense. But because the ocean is also tilting, or
- 29:37so it seems, I wasn't willing to believe it was the actual ocean tilting
- 29:45so much as that he created like a massive controlled wave. And I think
- 29:52it's supposed to be that the island is like floating, because you know,
- 29:57mostly if there's an island, it is not just like chilling in the water
- 30:03with nothing underneath it is. It is a land mask coming up from the
- 30:07ocean floor high enough that it pokes up through the water, and it's not
- 30:14separate from the water, just floating as an independent ull, you know what
- 30:18I'm saying, And I think maybe that's supposed to be what's going on here
- 30:23with the marine headquarters. It is sort of like I asked this question before,
- 30:27how these structures are built. Are they attached to existing islands or are
- 30:33they built as sort of enormous ships. But I'm just sort of guessing here.
- 30:38I don't really fully understand this, but yeah, they all like everybody
- 30:45falls over, even Ace is falling over, and the head admiral is like,
- 30:52uh, this is what I was afraid of. But he just says
- 30:55that and then the camera goes away, and I was just like, okay,
- 30:57but what is it? Mofy me while is watching everything and in the
- 31:02background, like the ships are on and it's it's not like a consistent tilt.
- 31:07It sort of looks like almost like what do they call that when a
- 31:15trail jackknife so that you can go up a high hill without going straight up
- 31:19practically vertically so that it's much more difficult, like in terms of your energy,
- 31:26you have it go up in a way that takes longer but is less
- 31:30difficult to do. So anyway, yeah, a bunch of these ships are
- 31:37like vertical in the air and are coming like crashing down. Fucking do Flamingo
- 31:48is cracking up and just says that son of a bitch has got some style.
- 31:52And I couldn't tell because the ships like they move in such a way
- 31:56and the way the water is drawn, it can be hard to know what
- 32:00the distance is and where they are in relationship to the island itself. So
- 32:05I was like, is he trying to get the ships here faster? Is
- 32:09this meant to sort of like drag them toward the island? I don't know,
- 32:15But all of this results in like this massive crack forming and Lufy falls
- 32:22into it, and for a second it seems like he's going to not make
- 32:27it, like his arm extends but not far enough, and Jimbay is right
- 32:31there, catches him and pulls him up, and Lufy's like, the fuck
- 32:36is he doing? Does he want to kill his entire crew? And Jimby
- 32:39says, oh no, they were ready for this. They are used to
- 32:44him doing this kind of thing. So I can't like how this is such
- 32:51a huge showstopper of a move. I can't imagine like working for somebody who
- 32:57is capable of this. So everything calms down, goes back to normal,
- 33:02flattens out. The Marines are discombobulated. How Mepo says, I feel like
- 33:08I just survived the end of the world, which I really liked that line.
- 33:13I don't know why, but if the earth like begins to till at
- 33:16forty degrees under your feet, that's gonna feel real weird. And when they
- 33:22look up finally, the like a huge chunk of the building behind them is
- 33:30in ruins. I don't know if the part that's in ruins, if that's
- 33:35what he was aiming for. I don't know if that part is specifically important
- 33:39in some way. And it doesn't seem like like the Marines are more devastated
- 33:46by the show of power than what he did. It seems to me anyway.
- 33:54So Yeah, this giant comes back into play and he's like, look,
- 33:58you definitely are bad. I'll confess that, but I still have a
- 34:02job to do. I took an oath and I'm going to follow through on
- 34:05that. And he starts his fight again with white Beard, who leaps up
- 34:13and just punches him. And the way he punches him, it's like a
- 34:16glass breaking sort of animation, and you see this force field I guess it's
- 34:23the best way to say it that I think. They call it a shock
- 34:28wave that echoes out of the back of his body and hits all of the
- 34:35buildings, and it doesn't do as much damage as one would want. It
- 34:40still fucks things up, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't do Everybody
- 34:46had sort of hoped that this was going to like take out the scaffolding,
- 34:52and it doesn't. The scaffolding, it seems, is steel. The buildings
- 34:58that are destroyed are made of stone. So what I was thinking at first
- 35:01was, oh, okay, well metal is like more flexible, right than
- 35:07stone, So I'm thinking they just made it of a different material and it
- 35:09stood up. But we see then the admirals are all standing in front of
- 35:15this and they are the ones that repelled the shockwave that was sent at them.
- 35:22And I love Akigee is something that says something about how like, well,
- 35:25where are the damn walls? Get those up, and it's like a
- 35:29done deal. And the other dude, rightfully is like, you're the one
- 35:32to put the fucking ice there, Dude, what are you talking about?
- 35:37So anyway, eventually we get the walls up. It takes a little while,
- 35:44but that's what happens at the end of this episode, and the dudes
- 35:46like are using their weapons and bazuokahs and stuff against the wall. It does
- 35:52fuck All those walls don't look like a thing anything touched them. So this
- 36:01guy I can't remember his name, is this I think I called the guy
- 36:07who did the ice a Kainu, but maybe I have that. No,
- 36:10I called him Akigi. That's correct. Akayenu is the guy who does the
- 36:15lava, right, and the dude who is based on an Action star had
- 36:23said something about how like, akg, you could just melt that ice though,
- 36:27couldn't you? And I wonder why they didn't. He points it out
- 36:32in a way that feels like if is this just the author sort of nodding
- 36:38to the fact, like yeah, yeah, yeah, I know there's somebody
- 36:40that can control magma lava whatever. Don't get on my case about it.
- 36:47I get it, like he could have done something. He didn't though,
- 36:51so shut up about it. You know, they don't really give an explanation
- 36:53as to why he doesn't. But yeah, this is when he sends a
- 37:00bunch of these I don't know what to call them, like, it's it
- 37:06like commets I guess into the air. I actually really really liked how this
- 37:12was done. This was one of the few times where the long pause that
- 37:16this show is so known for felt actually tense and paid off in a way
- 37:23that was like genuinely kind of It made me go, oh, my god,
- 37:30what's happening? Because he shoots all of this lava into the air,
- 37:37and he shoots it so hard and so high that it disappears into the cloud
- 37:45cover. So for a little bit here, everybody standing looking upwards at the
- 37:51clouds, the sky is like blackening and there's nothing, and it's sort of
- 37:55like, what was the point of that? What are we doing? And
- 37:59then you start to hear this weird sound and I'm trying to like, I
- 38:05want to listen to it real quick. I have my headphones on. Okay,
- 38:10So the sound effects that they used here every now and then, the
- 38:19effects, like the fully effects in this show can be great. So one
- 38:23of my favorites remains when Marius steals somebody's shadow and it's like the sound of
- 38:28packing tape being like torn out, you know that sound. This what it
- 38:37reminds me of is like the sound of a long piece of wire or like,
- 38:46you know, those telescoping radio antennas and stuff. There's like a sort
- 38:52of swishing, metallic sound that's not really thunder, but it sounds alien enough
- 39:06that there it's like very sinister, and so you hear it very faintly,
- 39:12and as it builds up you start to be like, but what is that
- 39:15that? This dude is asking everybody, like, do you guys hear that?
- 39:22It almost I could see maybe the Foley guys had like a long,
- 39:27thin piece of metal that they shook, because it's got the sound of like
- 39:35if this were a larger, wider piece, it would sound a lot more
- 39:37like thunder it's but it's not. It's not deep enough. It's a lot
- 39:43more high pitched and quick. And it's just so unnerving in the dead silence
- 39:51to hear this coming from really far away and you're like, what does this
- 39:55mean? And this guy's looking upward and then he starts to scream and you
- 40:00look up and you see these fists made of lava punching through the cloud layer
- 40:07down toward them, and at first there's like five of them, and I
- 40:13was like, that's bad news. Look at those things. They're fists too.
- 40:16I just love that. And then all of a sudden, there's more
- 40:20of them, and I'm like, oh, that's a lot. And then
- 40:22there's more, and then there's more again, and then there's more again,
- 40:25and it looks to me like maybe forty all together heading down toward them at
- 40:32top speed, and this fucking like the approach here is basically we're going to
- 40:43melt all of this ice that everybody is standing on right now, and we
- 40:46are going to destroy the ships so that they can't get away. They have
- 40:51nowhere to run, and we are going to fucking destroy them all, and
- 40:57certainly it is really destructive, like this was a critical hit. I guess
- 41:06you could say. There's fucking white Beard just standing there having no reaction,
- 41:13and a part of me was like, I get it. You have to
- 41:15put this this front on, even though it feels like it's not actually upfront
- 41:22with him. It actually feels a little bit like he just is this fucking
- 41:27stoic. But a part of me, with everybody just getting blasted around him,
- 41:31I was just like, oh, dude, I will say, though
- 41:35his eyes are black the way that they do an anime when somebody's really mad,
- 41:39and I was sort of wondering, isn't there anything that he can do
- 41:43with like his tremor power to keep these from hitting. And but again,
- 41:47because I don't really know what his power does, I don't know how that
- 41:52would work in this case. He is able to redirect something totally solid like
- 41:59a cannonball, maybe that doesn't work with something that's sort of like flexible like
- 42:06lava. You know, I don't know. So that's the end of that
- 42:13episode, and then we go into the second one, and not a lot
- 42:16happens at the beginning of this one. It's sort of more of a like
- 42:20regrouping episode. So we're at Sabaodi the archipelago, and we're going from like
- 42:28captain to captain, and you know, these are all of like the big
- 42:32badasses reacting to the fact that the feed cut out, and so many of
- 42:38the people watching are just ordinary citizens, and they're talking like this is a
- 42:45malfunction, that something probably happened to one of the transponder snails, and one
- 42:51of the captains just chimes in with like, come on, guys, that's
- 42:53not what's going on. They cut the feed on purpose. They if the
- 42:59marine of anybody could keep this transmission going through thick and thin if it's turned
- 43:07off it's on purpose. And if it's on purpose, it's because they don't
- 43:12want you to see what they're doing. Get real, and we kind of
- 43:15go from one captain to another, and they're like, again very stoic expressions,
- 43:22except for Captain Bonnie. You guys, I'm just gonna say it again.
- 43:30If you don't just have one woman in a whole group, then my
- 43:38reaction to their behavior isn't going to feel so pointed in terms of this is
- 43:45the author being misogynist. But it is that way every time there's a massive
- 43:52group of all dudes, fifteen dudes and then a woman. So if you
- 43:57do that repeatedly and one of the women has fallen madly in love and she's
- 44:01only fighting because she's like romantically in love with louviy And now Bonnie is over
- 44:07here like sobbing, it just is. It's just a bad look, man,
- 44:15It just is, you know. Anyway, So all of them are
- 44:22together talking about how like there's no way in hell white Beard sold out his
- 44:28allies. I am not buying it. Like there's a reason that everybody respects
- 44:32him and we are going to go help. And so they're like getting ready
- 44:38to board their ships and the dude who does the like card like tarot stuff.
- 44:45He is asking what's going to be happening at Marine Ford and he pulls
- 44:52the death card. So it's grim, but it seems like they're determined to
- 44:59throw in on. I don't know how long it takes for them to get
- 45:01here, Like, it's unclear to me a lot of the distance between stuff,
- 45:07whether or not that actually matters, you know, to the story in
- 45:12a real way versus like because I have difficulty with understanding, especially since Lufy
- 45:21had been on Sabaodi but then sent to BoA's Island. How distant a trip
- 45:30was that? How close is he? You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 45:36I've just sort of lost track of the physical location of a lot of
- 45:39things. So anyway, back at Marine Fort, all of these guys are
- 45:46like, you know, the ice is what everybody's been standing on, that
- 45:49has been their floor. And as this fucking magma is hitting the ice,
- 45:55it's not only melting it, but it starts to turn the water so hot
- 46:02that these guys are being practically boiled alive while they're floating in the water.
- 46:08And so they're all desperately trying to get out of the water, not like
- 46:12if it weren't for that, they could swim and they'd be fine, but
- 46:15now it's a whole different situation. And then, in combination with the fucking
- 46:21boiling water, all of the cannons that are poking out of the walls over
- 46:28here begin to fire, and the dudes turn around to try and get out
- 46:31of this like cold sac that they are in, and they come face to
- 46:37face with the kumabots, which begin firing on them. Like it's a really
- 46:40really bad scene. They are fish in a barrel, and at this point
- 46:45white Beard seems to sort of lose his temper and he lashes out with a
- 46:55I don't know, shockwave force field, I don't even know. Everybody clearly
- 47:00expects this to do something, but when the smoke clears, there's just a
- 47:05huge dent in the wall. It's there's no hole. It hasn't really done
- 47:09much of anything, and white Beard is really really mad about it. By
- 47:15the way. Meanwhile, the fucking ships are on fire. Everybody is trying
- 47:20to minimize the damage there, and all these ships are just going down,
- 47:24which means that these guys haven't got a way to escape, like even if
- 47:30they wanted to, which I don't think they do. They're at a point
- 47:32of we have got to see this through now because there's nowhere to go.
- 47:39So I'm trying to see exactly how this like, because Lufy is looking forward
- 47:45down the line of fire like he's heading towards Ace, still with the whole
- 47:52grouping of pirates who can still move behind him, and he is straight for
- 48:00the opening that Ores has made in the wall. And Ace is watching this
- 48:09whole thing as Lufi is coming at him, and he keeps like trying to
- 48:14be like enough, already stop it, and Lufy is like, you know,
- 48:17they're shooting at him. They're slowing him down. For sure. The
- 48:24look of the path that he's heading down, it almost looks like it's solid
- 48:29magma. I'm not entirely sure, because I kind of lost track of I
- 48:35thought Lufy was still on the ice, but apparently he's not anymore. He
- 48:38is on solid ground here, So what happened with the like lava hitting didn't
- 48:45sink him because again he can't swim, so the boiling would be a whole
- 48:50other issue. But yeah, so this is when Lufy is like, oh
- 48:54my god, finally I can see Ace, Like I've gotten close enough that
- 48:59I can see him, and he yells, I'm here, and Ace is
- 49:07just looking up like a christ. All the cannons are told to fire,
- 49:12and Loofy gets this like shocked expression on his face as they fire directly at
- 49:17him, and you just hear him yell and go flying backward. The entire
- 49:23screen just goes red except for Loofy and he goes like plummeting into the water
- 49:31behind him, And it's just it's sort of funny to me because like he
- 49:37is right in front, he isn't trying to be sneaky or anything. That's
- 49:39really not his style. So the fact that they fire at him, like
- 49:45of course they are, but he seems truly surprised by it, like he
- 49:47didn't expect them to just open up on him. Like I thought we had
- 49:52all agreed I was the main character, and you don't just shoot the main
- 49:54character. You just don't do that, like you shoot around me. Fine,
- 50:00but they didn't get that memo, I guess. So yeah, he
- 50:04goes into the water. Ace begins to lose his ever loving mind, and
- 50:10white Beard at this point is like, all right, well let's get this
- 50:15fucking going, you guys. It starts to become really chaotic. Here,
- 50:22Lufy is floating underwater as Sengoku is saying, all right, you know what,
- 50:28we're gonna move this execution up. We're just gonna do this shit now.
- 50:30I don't even need to wait anymore. Lufy's been taken out of the
- 50:35equation. He's still sinking, and then all of a sudden, this is
- 50:40when Ors says, I'm here Ace. And I was really hoping that it
- 50:47was just going to be like, oh, yeah, he is alive,
- 50:50and he stays alive. It can't be that easy, of course, So
- 50:59I'm sorry guys watching Loofy underwater like putting his hands over his mouth as if
- 51:04he could just stop himself from from drowning that way, And there's something about
- 51:07that that I find really really funny, just like maybe if I just covered
- 51:10my mouth. Somebody jumps into the water to save him, and I can't
- 51:15remember. I think it has to be gene Bae, right, But anyways,
- 51:19so Ors stands up. He says, get away from Ace, I'm
- 51:22gonna save you, and he begins coming toward him. Yet again, this
- 51:27is a creature with a one track mind. I have to admire him.
- 51:32And Or says I won't die until you're safe. I really like that line.
- 51:40It's not even like I'll protect you with my life or I'm gonna die
- 51:45making sure you're safe. It's like, I won't die till you're safe.
- 51:50It's such a like, well, the dying part that's a given, that's
- 51:52inevitable. I'm gonna try and hold it off though, you know, like
- 51:57I don't know. That felt so funny and practical in a way. And
- 52:02everybody around him can see that he's just putting himself on the line and he's
- 52:08gonna die. Meanwhile, Squord is back there and his men are like,
- 52:15here's your fucking sword. You're gonna get back in the fight, right,
- 52:19And he says all right, yeah, let's do this, and he takes
- 52:22the sword from them and says I'm ready. Yeah. It was Jimbei who
- 52:28seems sloopy and says, all right, no more going in the water.
- 52:30All right, enough enough with the falling and the sea shit. So the
- 52:37Marines prepare to open fire on oars. They it's like like he's in a
- 52:46really dangerous glass of champagne. The amount of ammunition hitting him lights him up
- 52:54like a sparkler, and he sort of keels over in place. He's like
- 53:00sitting up, you know, it's such a weird move. Meanwhile, Lufy
- 53:07is like, we've got to do something, and jim Bay says, yeah,
- 53:12but we need a strategy. We can't just go running like you know,
- 53:15this clearly isn't going to work. And Lufy says to Jim Bay,
- 53:20I need a favor from you, which, like I was really interested in
- 53:27because Lufy just doesn't tend to bother with plans, you know what I mean.
- 53:31He just goes in and it's just headfirst and we'll figure it out later.
- 53:42At this point, what is the name of Kisaru? He's like,
- 53:46all right, I've had enough of this Oars guy. Everybody unloaded on him
- 53:51and he's still breathing. So you know what, I'm gonna do a headshot.
- 53:54It's gonna be effective and take care of this and I won't have to
- 53:58think about this guy anyway. And one of the pirates is trying to yell
- 54:04for Oars to run, and I was like, Sir, I don't know
- 54:07if you've noticed, but this dude is not in any state to get up
- 54:10and run. So Kizaru uses his power just as Jimbei from underneath does ocean
- 54:20current shoulder throw and you see this like force rippling through the water and it
- 54:28sort of sends water up into the air around oars in like like a hovering,
- 54:35like the way that sort of mercury holds together, you know, and
- 54:39gets sort of it's like that, but in mid air this water and it
- 54:45punches downward in front of the admirals. And uh, I couldn't tell because
- 54:52like what I had thought was going to happen, was he's going to use
- 54:57this power to pull oars out of the way the shot or you know,
- 55:00something to save ors specifically. And it does save oars, but that's not
- 55:07the point of it. Loofy is brought to directly in front of the admirals
- 55:13because of the water. He uses that to carry him, and Loofy is
- 55:19holding on to what looks like the broken off mast of a ship. I
- 55:22don't know if that was to sort of keep him afloat so that he didn't
- 55:25drown in the water, or if it's the he's going to use the mast
- 55:30as a weapon. But guys, he looks up at these admirals with this
- 55:37crazed expression that I don't feel like we've ever seen on Loofy before. It
- 55:40is positively manic. There is something about him that looks feral, and all
- 55:49of the admirals are sort of like, wow, he did it. You
- 55:53know what, I'm not even mad. That's pretty badass. You found a
- 55:59way up. And I think it's Kiseru, who's just like, man,
- 56:04youth, you got so much fire in you. I don't know why,
- 56:09but it just tickled me a little bit. They're all just like, well,
- 56:13well, well so Loofy. We get like a POV shot of him
- 56:19looking up at all of them and then looking past them up at Ace,
- 56:24who has this expression on his face of just like, what are you doing,
- 56:29my dude? Seriously, Loofy does a summersault and chucks the mast at
- 56:37these admirals while he screams back off, And I was like, I don't
- 56:44feel like a mask is really going to do the job, buddy. They're
- 56:45pretty badass. I don't know, man, they it seems like they will
- 56:51be equal to handling a wooden mast that you've thrown in their direction. And
- 56:58he sails into the air as uh Akigi is turning the mass like because it's
- 57:06soaked in water into ice and Loofy does gum gum gatling and kicks the mask
- 57:14into a bunch of pieces that sends all of these like huge chunks of ice
- 57:19down at the admirals, who remain unmoved. They're watching this happen, and
- 57:23they do really seem sort of like, kid, what are you doing.
- 57:28There's a sense of just all right, let's get this, let's get this
- 57:31going. You know. Evidently what he was attempting to do was just distract
- 57:38them, create so much like hectic, you know, confusion around them.
- 57:45And so he turns on second gear and he's like flying up towards ace and
- 57:52is close. But uh, oh my god, I forgot his name.
- 57:59I'm so sorry. I should have pulled up the spreadsheet that Florine gave me.
- 58:02But Action Star Guy manages to intercept Loofy in mid air and sends him
- 58:09flying into some buildings, and it's just again like Louvie just keeps seeming truly
- 58:16surprised at the fact that anybody is trying to stop him. It's just sort
- 58:22of a theme with him is just like, what are you doing? I
- 58:24have a plan? Can't you just let me? At this point, the
- 58:28Marines are like fuck this, we're killing Ace. We got to bring all
- 58:31of this to a stop. They had been trying to save face and carry
- 58:36it through in this like very highly ritualized manner to make a point. They're
- 58:40just gonna put that to the side. It's too chaotic now. So these
- 58:45dudes beside Ace are bringing their blades down because it's gonna be like they both
- 58:49strike at the same time, I guess, And I think it was gonna
- 58:53be that they like cut his head off, because I know with gold Roger
- 58:57they just stabbed him, but I think it's not the same method of execution
- 59:04here. And all of a sudden, the guys holding the blades go flying
- 59:09and there are these two huge cuts in the scaffolding itself, and everybody's like
- 59:16the fuck what was that? And it turns out that it was crocodile.
- 59:22I was not expecting that at all, And Sengoku is like, what the
- 59:27fuck? I thought, since you had a grudge against white Beard that you
- 59:31would like help us out. What the hell are you doing? Lufy himself
- 59:37is just kind of like, yeah, this, I don't get it.
- 59:38What the fuck is happening here? I love Marco, He's got these unbelievable,
- 59:45like wings of Blue, something that are like on fire, very impressive,
- 59:52and he lands and says, what's going on? I thought i'd have
- 59:53a chance to show off I really appreciated character who can admit that he just
- 59:59wanted a flex a little bit, you know. So everybody's just sort of
- 1:00:04wondering, like what the hell happened to make Crocodile change his mind? And
- 1:00:08basically what he says is I could deal with Whitebeard later. I don't like
- 1:00:13to see you guys win. That's really what it is. Y'all suck and
- 1:00:19the Marines are bullshit. Your whole operation is shady as hell, and I
- 1:00:25just don't like you getting to win. He gets his head cut off,
- 1:00:30but it doesn't really matter because it's sand so whatever. By do Flamingo,
- 1:00:38who comes strutting up the way that he does, and he's like, I
- 1:00:43really kind of take this personally. I thought that we were going to be
- 1:00:45a team, and now you're just gonna like help out white Beard? What
- 1:00:49the fact? What the fuck? Uh loofy. Meanwhile, throughout all of
- 1:00:54this is just like, okay, you know what, this has nothing to
- 1:00:59do with me. They see he's saved Ace cool, they're all distracted.
- 1:01:04Why don't I take care of some things now? And he begins to fight
- 1:01:09his way through the marines again. It is just a series of like shots
- 1:01:15of these marines going flying in every direction like he has just tossed popcorn into
- 1:01:21the air basically. And there's another I don't know if he's an admirable,
- 1:01:25but he has a long ponytail, and he says that you're a little tantrum
- 1:01:32ends right now, is what he calls it. There's nothing so dismissive as
- 1:01:37calling something a tantrum, like even if that is what it is, you
- 1:01:40know. But he uses iron body and he thinks that's gonna stop whatever Lufy's
- 1:01:49doing. But apparently Lufy used like the bullet technique, and this dude didn't
- 1:01:52know that Lufi had that capability, and he just takes him out. So
- 1:02:00let's see. Here's Akayinu like noticing fucking Aokige comes in with his ice,
- 1:02:06knocks Loofy down with that and gets him like in the arm. I think,
- 1:02:09yeah, and uh is standing over him, and I just you,
- 1:02:15guys, I just kept thinking like, not you Aokige, Like I know
- 1:02:20you're but I just I kind of liked him, you know. He says,
- 1:02:24I still owe your grandfather a favor, straw Hat, but you've left
- 1:02:29me no choice. You chose to risk your life. You gotta face the
- 1:02:32music. And I was kind of like you ohe a favor, but you're
- 1:02:37doing this. I don't know, man, I don't know that that adds
- 1:02:38up. Boa here's this and says, fuck you. I'm not gonna let
- 1:02:45you hurt my darling starts to head over, but Marco beats her there and
- 1:02:51just shoves AOKG like through like it just you know, half a mile away
- 1:02:57basically, and he looked very uninterested as he does it, just impassive expression,
- 1:03:05you know. Luphy looks up at him and says, thanks, buddy,
- 1:03:08he saved me. And he gives him this really like in a smile
- 1:03:14of like, I really think you're kind of adorable kid, and he just
- 1:03:17says, no problem, pal. We briefly go over to mister three,
- 1:03:22who's inside, and he keeps thinking that he's been found out, but it
- 1:03:25turns out that they have no idea that he's in there, so they're looking
- 1:03:30for other people, and he had thought they were looking for him, but
- 1:03:31it seems like they are not aware that he is in the building. Oh
- 1:03:36my god, I'm overtime. I didn't even notice. So let me just
- 1:03:39jump ahead here to uh the very end, because like the there is another
- 1:03:47ship that it turns out, has been what's the word coded and just comes
- 1:03:55up inside the bay they've been hiding it this whole time. And it's a
- 1:04:01really big ship too. It's like the size of oars almost, you know,
- 1:04:08oars. The ships around him looked like toys, but this one's like
- 1:04:15stands higher than him, which means that this thing is really, really huge.
- 1:04:20And this is when Oors starts to come forward again and be like,
- 1:04:24we can save Ace. He's on the platform and again he gets hit with
- 1:04:28a ton of like I don't know if it's the cannons or bazukas or what,
- 1:04:33but he falls, and as he does, he says to his friends,
- 1:04:38save Ace for me, guys, don't let them kill him. And
- 1:04:43I don't know why, but that like the do it for me, don't
- 1:04:48let them got to me. He literally picks the ship up out of the
- 1:04:54harbor and carries it in like it's serious. And at this point white Beard
- 1:05:04has come a lot closer. He is almost at the base of the scaffolding
- 1:05:09at this point, so I don't even remember is Luvi at the base as
- 1:05:14well as he coming forward. I'm trying to remember the positioning of everybody by
- 1:05:17the way this episode ends. Oh no, he's not at the base of
- 1:05:20the scaffolding. He's on the deck of the ship. But the way the
- 1:05:23perspective wasn't made him look like he was at the scaffolding. And you know,
- 1:05:30there's just a moment where he flies forward and a Kahinu is sort of
- 1:05:36like, wait, what is he doing? And he lands amongst all of
- 1:05:43the marines, sending a shockwave out and knocking a lot of them over,
- 1:05:49and they all begin to panic because this is him officially like entering the plaza
- 1:05:54area, and white Beard says, my sons, please stay back, which
- 1:06:02I feel like, you really want to listen to this man when he says
- 1:06:05that, and he summons this ball of white light to his blade, swings
- 1:06:12it and it seems takes down hundreds of marines at the same time. They
- 1:06:20go flying through the air at a rate that I'm genuinely like, is that
- 1:06:24a whirlwind? It seems like I'm seeing the same guys pass more than once
- 1:06:29and all of the other heavy hitters. After he does this big hit drop
- 1:06:35down beside him and he's just like, all right, kids, this is
- 1:06:40it. This is the final stand. So we're gonna get ace. Let's
- 1:06:44get this done. And that is how the episode ends. All right,
- 1:06:48I gotta wrap. I'm over time, But thank you guys so much for
- 1:06:53listening. Oh Florian's here. Oh he missed it. Well it's okay,
- 1:06:57but you can go back and watch. But yeah, thank you guys again.
- 1:07:00I hope you're enjoying the coverage. Until next time to the Loo,
- 1:07:02motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network podcast.
