- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41OK, so I wanted to do a really quick update on my knee
- 0:45situation. So as of last week on Wednesday,
- 0:49you know, my doctor was supposed to send that referral over to my
- 0:52knee doctor in Seattle. Well, as of Wednesday they had
- 0:55not received it. So I called her office and the
- 0:58receptionist, he answers and he looks in my chart and he says
- 1:03oh, it looks like she hasn't sent it.
- 1:05Maybe she forgot. And I was like Oh my goodness.
- 1:08So I gave him the two fax numbers and and then on Thursday
- 1:12I called them again the office in Seattle to see if they've
- 1:15received the referral. I just at this point I just want
- 1:18to make sure they're receiving it.
- 1:19No, they had not received it. You figure I talked to her
- 1:22Monday evening. This is Thursday, no referral
- 1:25even after calling her office. But the receptionist, she says,
- 1:30but if you have premium insurance, you don't need a
- 1:33referral. And I guess who has premium
- 1:36insurance. So I don't, I need a referral.
- 1:39Yeah, yeah. So I have an appointment this
- 1:41week. I got a copy of my X-rays of my
- 1:44knee and the report. And so I'm going to hand deliver
- 1:47it. Obviously I have to see the PA
- 1:49first because that's just standard.
- 1:51You don't get to just see the surgeon.
- 1:53And so hopefully fingers crossed, they'll have good news
- 1:58and I won't need a knee replacement.
- 1:59So I'll update you on that next week as far as what they have to
- 2:04say and kind of what what's going to happen to me.
- 2:07And then also over the weekend, we saw the kid that my brother
- 2:11thought was injecting drugs. We saw him, we saw him over the
- 2:17weekend and I could say no track marks on his arms.
- 2:21He was even like, look, mom, I don't know what Uncle Nick saw
- 2:25he's like, but he he was just like, I don't, I don't know.
- 2:29So anyway. What did you what did you say?
- 2:31What last week, what did you say?
- 2:32You thought it was a band. Well, he had, Yeah, he, no, he
- 2:35has a birthmark, like, right, that little crease of your
- 2:39elbow, whatever that's called, you know, wherever you get blood
- 2:42drawn and Ivs and all that. Yeah.
- 2:45And that's where my brother said he he saw tracks, marks, track
- 2:50marks again. He said he wasn't sure, but he
- 2:53just wanted to let me know. So yeah.
- 2:55So yeah, that's no. That's that's crazy though.
- 2:57No track marks so. Immediately, immediately just go
- 3:00to the the worst case scenario. Well, and Jackson said, like,
- 3:05why didn't he just ask me at Easter or say like, hey, did you
- 3:10have an like a injury or, you know, like my brother could have
- 3:13said something that wasn't obvious.
- 3:14Like I grabbed his arm and been like, are those track marks?
- 3:19Oh my gosh. You know you know some.
- 3:21People that might have been a little obvious on Easter Sunday
- 3:24or something. So maybe not, maybe not so much.
- 3:26Right, not the appropriate time to be like are those track marks
- 3:30on your arm? So so can confirm no track Marks
- 3:37and then you had a doctor's appointment.
- 3:38So how was that? How did?
- 3:39That go it went great. So as as so as my wife never
- 3:44gives me a compliment, you probably don't notice.
- 3:47Do I look any different? I can't really tell from.
- 3:51From here so so that there was a spot here.
- 3:55Right. So that's removed.
- 3:57I mean, they're still, they're still healing.
- 3:59Right. If they did they freeze it off
- 4:02or did they scrape? It off, yeah, it's freeze so, So
- 4:05see how there's this one over here.
- 4:06Yeah. That's a little more prominent.
- 4:08They're all scabbed over, right? And so this will drop off a
- 4:11little bit later on. And so this one right here is
- 4:13still healing, but that one it was.
- 4:17Picking it. It was just called a Barnacle.
- 4:19It was called a Barnacle. So you could tell.
- 4:21I mean, you could tell it's, I mean, if you go back and look at
- 4:23our previous videos, you can really see it.
- 4:25Kind of like skin tags. Yeah, so, so, yeah.
- 4:28So going to the skin doctor again, I do have a skin disease.
- 4:32Right. Nothing cancerous is just.
- 4:35That's good. I don't know where it came from.
- 4:37It's it may be hereditary. And I saw the same guy I saw a
- 4:40couple years ago. And so there's these, like you
- 4:42said, there's just these things that just show up.
- 4:46And so I'm going to have to get used to it.
- 4:48The older I get that now it cost me, you know, 125 bucks.
- 4:52Does that mean because insurance doesn't cost?
- 4:54Great. And then, but that's great,
- 4:57yeah. This guy, this guy.
- 4:58And then there's one over here and then one on my back, but
- 5:00there's only four of them. And so to me it was like, oh,
- 5:03and then, and then I do have, I'm kind of developed a little
- 5:05skin tag near my eye. And he's like, oh, if you have a
- 5:08piece of floss, you could probably take that.
- 5:10And I thought, well, I said, well, something because I had
- 5:12been reading up on not anything near your eye.
- 5:14Right. And it goes, Oh no, you'll be
- 5:16fine. So how do you wait?
- 5:17What do you do with floss? How do you do that So?
- 5:21Because if the skin tag has a stye where it's protruding.
- 5:24Right. You think it's topping up?
- 5:27Yeah, it doesn't pop it, but it just you get underneath it and
- 5:30you just something like that. But I'm not there yet on that
- 5:32one that means. Yeah, I don't know if I could do
- 5:35that to myself. I'd be like just, I just take it
- 5:37off. I just tell the skin out, just
- 5:39remove it. I cannot do that to myself.
- 5:42I could do it to someone else, but not myself.
- 5:44Yeah, you could get that done too.
- 5:45But but anyway, so the the concern of of of skin cancer,
- 5:51any of that, it is actually I apparently I have a skin disease
- 5:54and he gave me a pamphlet with all these different growths on
- 5:57your skin and you know, I don't. But, and so there's no concern
- 6:02that these growths could turn cancerous because you know how
- 6:06like some moles or, or like beauty marks could turn
- 6:10cancerous. No.
- 6:12And they, and it's interesting, they, they look like you said,
- 6:14they look like a mole. Right.
- 6:16But they're not. And if they change, then that's
- 6:19concerning. Yeah, but you know.
- 6:21He he double, he double checked me.
- 6:23He says no, they're the same as you had before.
- 6:25I mean, it's like not, not one iota difference.
- 6:27So it's just one of those things to be to be aware of.
- 6:29And I I use my health savings account, which again, I it took
- 6:34me year. So here's the deal.
- 6:36So you're HSA Yeah. So I have an HSA but we.
- 6:40Have an FSA. So there's another one that
- 6:43it's. You'd lose it if you don't spend
- 6:46it. Yeah, that's and.
- 6:47I was like, and I was like hog shit.
- 6:49I am never going to have something to where I lose
- 6:51something that I don't use right now.
- 6:53Everybody now, everybody through the years had said, don't worry,
- 6:56go go get prescriptions, go get da da, da, da.
- 6:59It's like I'm not that I don't manage my health that way.
- 7:02No, you know, because, because I'll be the other.
- 7:04Stuff with it. Yeah, but I'm I'm not waiting
- 7:07till December 31st to spend a couple grand in something.
- 7:11So when the so when the savings account came up around where
- 7:14it's just the the credit card. Yeah.
- 7:16And it never goes away and you can use it no matter what.
- 7:19Yeah. So, yeah, so I'm using and so
- 7:21and so that's the one I'm using which I love because I just I
- 7:24swiped and I went so only cost me a couple 100 bucks to get get
- 7:27checked out and I was I was good with that.
- 7:30So anyway, turned out to be a good check up and the same guy
- 7:34had a couple years ago, his name is Ryan, Doctor Ryan or whatever
- 7:37and really no change in that. So it's just nice to be as I as
- 7:40I asked my wife, do I look? Do I?
- 7:42What did Megan say? You said your wife was.
- 7:44She, well, she never gives me a compliment, so even if I look,
- 7:47even if I look good, she wouldn't say I look good.
- 7:49So she says I look the same as I always look.
- 7:52Of course she would say that. That's all she said.
- 7:54Yeah, you look the same. It's because you look the same.
- 7:56You always do. I mean, someone has to keep your
- 7:58ego in check. It might as well be her.
- 8:02You know, it's like, it's like so so when we get dressed up to
- 8:05go out, I'm like, oh, you look nice.
- 8:07You look nice. But it's not never, never, never
- 8:11reciprocated back. Like, oh, you look, you look
- 8:12good too. No, it's like, yeah, basically
- 8:15you're just lucky to be with me. I guess that's how I look at it.
- 8:18So, yeah, there you go. So yes, I, I mean, I, I am, I'm
- 8:22appreciative. I'm a I'm a lucky man.
- 8:24But but but me me trying to fish for a compliment.
- 8:29I know I love that she hardly never compliments you.
- 8:34It's almost. It's like there's a game now
- 8:36that is fabulous. I love.
- 8:37That never, never, never, as she always says, even when it comes
- 8:41to any do it yourself projects at home.
- 8:44If I fix something, even if I do something, she's like, that's
- 8:46what you're supposed to be doing.
- 8:49So but I do have a good. I do have a good.
- 8:52That's your job. So I do have a quick, really
- 8:55quick story is I. So when it comes to finances, I
- 8:59am the absolute worst person because I think the worst right
- 9:04the minute that something breaks.
- 9:05So let's say the air conditioner breaks down, or the water heater
- 9:08isn't working or whatever happens in the house.
- 9:11I immediately go to DEFCON 5. It's gonna cost $50,000.
- 9:15Where am I gonna give That's money?
- 9:17But that stems. From your childhood, yes.
- 9:20I immediately go into that mode. I become the, I become the
- 9:23crankiest, meanest, jerkiest, you know.
- 9:26And So what happened was, so I think when we got what happened,
- 9:30but we got our kitchen a couple years back and had gotten
- 9:33flooded and so the insurance had covered it.
- 9:36And so it's $30,000. Well, the wall, that's one of
- 9:39the walls that that is did not get fixed, right.
- 9:42Everything else got fixed with this wall next to the water
- 9:44heater. It looked like sawdust was
- 9:47coming out of for for the last couple years.
- 9:49And so it was kind of driving me a little nuts.
- 9:51And so of course, the first thing I think of what when I see
- 9:53sawdust, what do I think? Termites.
- 9:55Oh yeah. I'm like, Oh my God, we've got
- 9:57termites. Right, the House.
- 9:58What else? There's nothing else that does
- 10:00that. There is, there is so so it was
- 10:04funny. So Megan took out.
- 10:06So I was driving me nuts. So Megan took a little photo and
- 10:08put it up through ChatGPT. What did chat and Chad said?
- 10:12No, it's not termites. It could be Carpenter ants, but
- 10:16likely it's just ants. So ants so ants can push out.
- 10:21They don't ruin the wall, but they do push out material.
- 10:24They don't they? So it's not, it's not like the
- 10:26walls weakened or anything. Ant Hill, you know when we see
- 10:29them out. Yeah, they're just making their,
- 10:32Yeah, they're making their place.
- 10:33So. So it's interesting.
- 10:35So and so I think we talked about this on our previous
- 10:39podcast. So I get, I get angry because
- 10:43because I don't want to make a phone call, I always ask my wife
- 10:46to make the phone call. Hey, can you just, I'll pay,
- 10:48I'll pay. But I always ask my wife to make
- 10:51the phone call and guess what she needs to do.
- 10:53She wouldn't do it. She doesn't do it.
- 10:55She doesn't do it when I, when I tell her to, Hey, can you just
- 10:58call the the the pest people and I'll pay for the irrigation
- 11:01people. I'll pay for it.
- 11:02She's like, no, because, because and I and I've talked about this
- 11:06phone phobia that I've got right.
- 11:09Right. It's so funny.
- 11:11So it's like you talk to people on the phone when you're at
- 11:15work. What I well, because they call,
- 11:17I mean, I have to answer the phone.
- 11:18I'm at work and they, they, they call in.
- 11:19But, but I try, you know, it's like I'm, I'm one of those
- 11:22people. You want me to go to the doctor,
- 11:23set up the appointment. I'll go to the appointment you
- 11:25want me to do. Just set up, you know.
- 11:27Even when your friends call you, it takes three times for us to
- 11:32call you before you answer. I've gotten better, but yes, you
- 11:38know what I'm saying? Yes, so, so so anyway, I had
- 11:42gotten so frustrated with this whole this whole situation.
- 11:46So I've got the irrigation people coming next week.
- 11:48I've got the the pest people coming right to take a look at
- 11:52these ants. So anyway, the company, the
- 11:55company shows up, super nice guy.
- 11:58He asked me not to necessary name the company, I think cuz
- 12:00he, you know, he just doesn't want it out.
- 12:02So his name is Joe, super nice guy, he shows up and so I.
- 12:06So I'll lay this out. I called the company and all the
- 12:09company wanted to do was #1 there was an initial inspection
- 12:12and then the next thing they want to do is put you on a
- 12:14Service plan. Right.
- 12:15For the exterminator, yeah. Right.
- 12:17And I go and I go, I don't need that.
- 12:20I just need somebody to come inspect.
- 12:22And if there's ants and I said it's one wall, that's it.
- 12:26And they go well they go it's going to cost $300.00 for us to
- 12:29do 1 inspection. And I said I don't care.
- 12:31I just like, just come over. Ring.
- 12:34So, so this pest company comes over, Joe's super nice guy.
- 12:37He gets out, I'm talking to him and I go.
- 12:40I think I go, I think my wife already has a pest company, but
- 12:44they do the outside and he goes, well, they should be able to do
- 12:46the inside too. Anyway, he walks downstairs to
- 12:49my wall and I go, I think this is where it is.
- 12:51And he looks at it goes, Yep, he goes, you have ants.
- 12:54And he goes and he goes, here's the deal.
- 12:56I'm gonna, I'm gonna spray this for you and I'm not gonna charge
- 12:59you. So Joe sprayed the wall that,
- 13:02you know, and he sprayed around a little bit, but just really,
- 13:05because you could see the rest, there's no ants anywhere else.
- 13:08It's just this wall, right? And then the guy.
- 13:10And then the guy goes, says, hey, man, don't.
- 13:11And he goes and he goes. And he goes.
- 13:13He goes. You're on the radio.
- 13:15You recognized your voice. Right.
- 13:17And I go, I said well, I go, how did you know that he goes?
- 13:19Well, I heard your voicemail when I tried to call you.
- 13:21Because remember, 3 times you can't, you can't, can't get me,
- 13:26but it will go to my voicemail. Anyway.
- 13:28He goes, he goes, I reckon, I mean, I reckon I recognized your
- 13:31voice on the voicemail. So he goes, and this is such a
- 13:34nice guy, he goes. It's ridiculous.
- 13:36They overcharged you. Oh, so it goes, It goes.
- 13:39He goes. So don't mention my company.
- 13:41Don't mention Dada today. I mean it literally.
- 13:43He was here for like 10 minutes. Yeah, it takes them hardly
- 13:46anytime at. All but yeah, but the but the
- 13:48company now I probably will end up getting this company down the
- 13:51road because he's such a nice guy and I'll personally request
- 13:53him, Right. But the company on the phone
- 13:56would not listen to what I mean. It's like Linda, listen, Linda,
- 14:02Linda, and the first thing they want to do is put you on a
- 14:05freaking Service plan. And it's like, that's not the
- 14:07issue. I need somebody to come in and
- 14:09say, Yep, it's ants. First off, Yep, it's ants, not
- 14:12termite. It's not worst case scenario,
- 14:15not Armageddon. Yeah.
- 14:17And and I probably could have exterminated the ants myself.
- 14:20Yes, you could have. I was going to say I We are Ant
- 14:23professionals since we live in the country, so I know
- 14:26everything about ants at this stage of the game, so.
- 14:29But I want to make sure it wasn't termites because termites
- 14:32gave some serious damage to it and it was just this wall and I
- 14:35was like, and because there was water around it, which termites
- 14:38are known to be near water. But so ants.
- 14:40Ants need water too. Ants are too.
- 14:42Ants are too. So that's what it was.
- 14:44But I was of course, worst case scenario, the building's
- 14:46falling, the house is going to collapse and it's going to be
- 14:49$100,000. But anyway, he was super cool,
- 14:52did it for save me 300 bucks. He says, hey, they're going to
- 14:54call you. They're going to ask why you
- 14:56cancelled the call. You just tell him that you have
- 14:58an outside, you have another exterminator company, you didn't
- 15:01know any. And so anyway, super nice guy.
- 15:03And I said, well, I'll remember this and I will definitely, you
- 15:06know, pass the praises on. So anyway, worst case scenario,
- 15:09it actually turned out to be ants.
- 15:11Didn't cost me 0. Nice.
- 15:13So so I'm super happy about it, but I just cannot help but think
- 15:17the worst case scenario when it comes to my house.
- 15:20Do you ever do that? Do you ever?
- 15:21No matter what it is, you're like son of A.
- 15:23Oh yes, when we had our HVAC go out a few years ago, I'm
- 15:28thinking, Oh my gosh, like this is going to cost us like
- 15:31$25,000, you know, because now it's a lot more expensive to
- 15:36replace. It's like your whole HVAC unit.
- 15:39And so luckily it was only like 12 grand, but still that's a lot
- 15:44of money that you're shelling out.
- 15:46And like, like you said, like these companies aren't always
- 15:52truthful with people. And so that's the other thing is
- 15:56so my father in law's, I think it was just this air conditioner
- 16:00that went out in the HVAC unit and he had somebody come out and
- 16:04they told him that he needed to replace the whole unit.
- 16:08And my husband looked at it and figured out that it's only like
- 16:12one part and the one part was like $400.00.
- 16:15And my husband ordered it and then fixed it for them.
- 16:19So that just makes you believe that yes, they're all just out
- 16:23there to scam you and make as much money as possible.
- 16:26Because we don't, none of us, we're not proficient in all
- 16:29these different things like, you know, the HVAC unit or whatever.
- 16:33What we, we're not knowledgeable in everything.
- 16:36So we don't know when they're telling us the truth or lying to
- 16:39us. We just have to go by what
- 16:40they're telling us. And and they could charge us at
- 16:43however much they want to tell us whatever they want, what
- 16:45whatever they want and get away with it because we don't know.
- 16:48Like how are we supposed to know?
- 16:50It's kind of like, it's kind of like finding a good mechanic
- 16:52back in the day that the goal was always to find a good
- 16:55mechanic. But even let's say it's the
- 16:57dealership, it's like dealerships will can take you
- 17:00for a ride, backyard mechanic can take you for a ride.
- 17:03But then there's also, and I will say this too, there's also
- 17:06very honest. Yes.
- 17:08Dealerships and there's also very honest mechanics, but you
- 17:11have to find them. And that is the struggle.
- 17:14And the struggle is real. And so it's and, and then right
- 17:16now everything, everything's a subscription service.
- 17:18Yeah, yeah, it's, I mean, it's ridiculous on, you know, did you
- 17:22see that McDonald's is even doing a subscription service for
- 17:25meals? No.
- 17:27Yeah, I hope that's not fake, but I think I saw that even
- 17:31McDonald's. Is this in April?
- 17:33No, no, it's a subscription service and they're going to try
- 17:36it to where you get so many meals a month or something.
- 17:39Well, the theater. Hasn't McDonald's in like a
- 17:41month? Yeah, well, somebody who wants
- 17:43to have a heart attack. I mean, maybe the president, but
- 17:47not the rest of us. We don't eat that much
- 17:49McDonald's. So I'm sitting there like really
- 17:51everything, everything has to be a subscription service.
- 17:54And then when you tell them no, you know, I just want, I just
- 17:57want one thing. They're like, oh, well, that's
- 17:59going to cost you. What it?
- 18:00Well, whatever, just get it, you know?
- 18:01Right, It'll cost you more than the subscription.
- 18:04Well, it's because they're banking on the fact that you, we
- 18:07all get these subscriptions and then we forget about them and we
- 18:11just keep paying whatever monthly fee it is for years and
- 18:14years and years and they're and not using it and they're just
- 18:18raking in this money basically is what's.
- 18:20Happening well, it's a revenue source and and you know what?
- 18:22And and we we joke about radio, but it's just a bit as bad today
- 18:26with the wet belt building the websites.
- 18:28Right. You know, that's a monthly,
- 18:30that's a monthly thing, building a website and then the different
- 18:32things that they do not just from the on air side, but you
- 18:35know, it's one of those things. Their goal is their goal is
- 18:38their goal is to get you on a subscription service and then,
- 18:40you know, yeah. So it's, it's, it's not just,
- 18:43you know, in the industries we talked about, it's like, Oh my
- 18:45God, every, every, well, Patreon, he's like, you know, I
- 18:49now luckily we have 3 listeners. So we're not, we're not at the
- 18:52Patreon level here. Guys want.
- 18:55To kick in a buck, Want to kick in a buck?
- 18:57We'll take a buck, you know. We're not at subscription level
- 19:00on anything at this point. I will.
- 19:04We have to pay people to listen. You will laugh because I
- 19:09remember I was talking about Kate.
- 19:10Yeah, Caitlin, she was in the comments.
- 19:12Yeah, yeah, I saw that. That that's, that's Kate.
- 19:15That's Caitlin from high school. Anyway, So anyway, I thought,
- 19:19oh, maybe I need to, maybe I need to take back some of those
- 19:21things I said about her Now that yeah, that I, that, you know, on
- 19:24the on the last one, I was like, oh, she's.
- 19:27I think she was fine. I think she I think she was
- 19:30fine. I didn't I don't think I
- 19:31revealed anything she didn't already know.
- 19:33So right, right. You know, I mean, I mean, I do
- 19:35like all of her stuff on Instagram anyway.
- 19:37Like, kind of like a lost puppy dog.
- 19:39Like I was gonna say, don't get, don't get like stalkerish and go
- 19:42back like five years and like everything or something.
- 19:46But as I was told it helps the algorithm, so if you have a
- 19:50friend. OK, OK.
- 19:53Yeah. No, I'm just saying, and it, it,
- 19:55it helps the algorithm. So so if anybody wants to
- 19:57continue to like this podcast, it, it pushes.
- 20:00This is what we've learned about the algorithm is you want people
- 20:04to to to like it to. Comment like share it, Yeah,
- 20:08sure. Subscribe, please do all those
- 20:10things. But I mean, we might as well
- 20:12pimp us out now while while we're talking about it.
- 20:15Michelle. What?
- 20:17You know, between us. Speaking of pimping, what?
- 20:20No, I'm saying it's like I I have a sneaky suspension when
- 20:25Alexander Skarsgard or something that you like.
- 20:28Who? OK, I guess the question is who
- 20:30do you follow and do you like their stuff?
- 20:33Alexander Skarsgard does not have social media.
- 20:36Pedro Pascal does. And I do like all, like his
- 20:39stuff periodically, but I'm not like, obsessively liking
- 20:43everything. So.
- 20:44But I'm also not on social media like a whole bunch.
- 20:47A whole bunch because I'm just, I want to live life and not be
- 20:50stuck on social media, Yeah. OK.
- 20:53So I probably miss a lot of stuff but.
- 20:55Well, I and the sad thing is you're not a guy that's.
- 20:58Right I Mean Girls are just as bad though.
- 21:01I think so yes. And like stalking people.
- 21:04We are like who needs who needs a private investigator when you
- 21:07could just have a girl like one of your girlfriends if you have
- 21:11if you would suspect something about your man or anybody, just
- 21:15tell your girlfriend because they will figure shit out.
- 21:19You don't need to hire a girl. Yes, but yeah, we usually will
- 21:22like take a deep dive if we have like a crush or whatever.
- 21:25And just I mean, I've seen my friends go down the rabbit hole
- 21:28like so bad that I'm just like, girl, you don't like things from
- 21:31like five years ago. What are you doing?
- 21:33Like stop doing that. It's crazy stalker yes, like
- 21:40yeah, don't do that. You can like like a few things,
- 21:43but don't get like overly obsessively liking everything
- 21:48you want that I mean, and you want them to think like that.
- 21:51You don't like like them, like them that much.
- 21:54Like come on, we all know, all of us know this.
- 21:56Like this is like dating relationship 101 stuff that we
- 22:01all should know. You know it's you.
- 22:03Know or is it different now? Or is it OK to just like
- 22:06everything? I think, you know, back back
- 22:08back when I was single many years ago, long before Megan.
- 22:13I think that we'll have to go back to the Myspace, you know,
- 22:16Myspace days, but I and and the very beginnings of.
- 22:19But you guys meant on tender? Match.com.
- 22:22Oh, match. OK.
- 22:23I knew it was like one of those. Yeah, OK.
- 22:26But that was 2008, end of 2008, 2009.
- 22:30So up until that point, I think, yeah.
- 22:32What Myspace, Facebook and Myspace?
- 22:34Facebook wasn't as big as Myspace.
- 22:35Myspace was the big one. So you were.
- 22:38So if there was a cute girl or something you were liking their
- 22:40stuff, hopefully that that would start a conversation.
- 22:43Oh, I see. So, but like you said, then it
- 22:45becomes oh, what a creeper. So is that the same now?
- 22:48Like you're liking stuff hoping that no starting conversation?
- 22:53Is that what people are? Doing No, no, no, I, no, I like
- 22:55it because I like it now. But, but I mean, but no, I'm
- 23:00saying back in the day, you know, so it was, it was, well, I
- 23:04will tell you the biggest lesson I learned and, and it was, it
- 23:07was on me, but I was working in Bakersfield, CA and this is
- 23:11Myspace and my girlfriend in Bakersfield had just broken up
- 23:16with me. And so I was like, I don't know
- 23:19if I was devastated, but I was definitely upset about the
- 23:21situation. And so I literally went on
- 23:24Myspace and this is horrible. This is a horrible story.
- 23:26Went on Myspace and went through the radio stations, Myspace,
- 23:30friends and there was a girl named Stacy who was in a bikini
- 23:34and I went that one and and I reached out to her through
- 23:41through Myspace and we went to went to a Keith Urban concert.
- 23:45This, this this random girl that you picked on Myspace?
- 23:49Total, total random girl. And so anyway, it was funny.
- 23:52She was a listener, right? Like.
- 23:54She I well, she was a fan of the station.
- 23:56She was a fan of the station. She was a fan.
- 23:58So she was a listener in. Turn.
- 24:00Yeah, I mean, just to summon. We can assume that, right?
- 24:02Right. Well anyway, there's a pretty
- 24:04funny story about her was I had. I mean, outside of looking good
- 24:09in a pair of jeans, I had nothing in common with this
- 24:12person. And so we went backstage.
- 24:14We met Keith Urban because I was trying to impress her back.
- 24:17In the game of. Course, I mean, I'm, hey, I was
- 24:20single. I was single.
- 24:21So we went. Back to single and heartbroken.
- 24:24Yeah, single and heartbroken. I The funny thing about me
- 24:27though, you know me well enough to know I generally don't make a
- 24:29move on people anyway. No.
- 24:31I mean, that's kind of AI mean. It's probably a shocker, but I I
- 24:33really don't. And so I wasn't getting any.
- 24:37Well, I don't. Vibes from her.
- 24:39But I but I also wasn't really putting anything out.
- 24:41I just wanted to take a pretty girl.
- 24:44Right you just right. You wanted to make your ex
- 24:46jealous. Well, no, she wasn't around.
- 24:49So it was she never knew about it.
- 24:50It was just I just. I just thought maybe you wanted
- 24:53her to see like these photos of you and this.
- 24:55Cute girl and. We have Keith Urban and Nope.
- 24:59Never never put a photo on Mason.
- 25:00Myspace didn't do it. Nope, never acknowledged her.
- 25:02I just, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know you know how
- 25:05you're, I don't know, don't know what you were thinking in those
- 25:07situations, but. Well you just want attention
- 25:09from someone or you want someone else to make you feel good about
- 25:12yourself because you feel shitty basically because someone just
- 25:15broke your. Heart Yeah.
- 25:17Welcome to being Welcome to the world of being a dude and
- 25:20rejected so so we did so we went to Keith Urban anyway, so I so
- 25:26anyway, it's so I thought it was odd.
- 25:28So she sent me a Christmas card. This girl sent me her name was
- 25:31Stacey. She sent me a Christmas card.
- 25:32This Christmas card and it was a picture of her.
- 25:36I it was a picture of her. OK.
- 25:39I just thought that was odd. That's it like and nothing else
- 25:42like it didn't say anything. Merry Christmas.
- 25:44I think it said Merry Christmas, but I just thought, well, this
- 25:46is I mean, I guess I just took her like this is odd.
- 25:49Why would I send a picture? And it was a picture of her I
- 25:51believe. Was she in a bikini?
- 25:53I think she was in a bikini but. I'm sure you would remember she.
- 25:56Actually, she was not in a bikini, but she was at the beach
- 25:59or something like that. And I thought, well, this is an
- 26:01odd Christmas card. I mean, I kind of thought it was
- 26:03a little vain. Right.
- 26:05Like this is a Christmas card so why is it a picture of you I
- 26:09guess? But if she's a single lady, I
- 26:11mean, what else is your Christmas card?
- 26:13You don't have a family. You don't have a fiance or a
- 26:15boyfriend, so yeah, if you're living your best single life,
- 26:19why not? I assume she was giving this
- 26:21card to everybody, not just not just me.
- 26:23Well, yeah, I mean, she's living her best life.
- 26:26She was, she was and I, and I want to say at the time she was
- 26:29probably 10 years younger than I was.
- 26:31So, but it was funny was I ran into other people at the radio
- 26:36station not and not, you know, and they go, Oh my, my cousin
- 26:40dated her, blah. And I went, oh really?
- 26:41And they go, Oh yeah, she's a big slut.
- 26:43And I went well, but she didn't put out for me.
- 26:46What are you talking about? Nor nor nor made nor made any
- 26:50attempt. You know what I'm saying?
- 26:52But neither did you so. I did not.
- 26:54I did not. I was a complete, I was a
- 26:56complete gentleman, but it still made me laugh.
- 26:58I really took the Christmas card as a little bit too vain for
- 27:01somebody that I wanted to I guess for.
- 27:03I mean, I don't think we, I don't necessarily think we had a
- 27:05lot in common. Anyway, no, it sounds like you
- 27:08did not. We did, yeah.
- 27:09But but it was one of those like, I just got hurt.
- 27:13And being a typical guy, you reach out to that, to where you
- 27:17know, where it didn't matter, you know?
- 27:20Yeah, so you just wanted someone to make you feel better about
- 27:23yourself? Yes, you know, and there was a
- 27:26lot of, it was funny. There was a lot of during that,
- 27:28during that little period, there was a lot of misfires because I
- 27:30had met people not necessarily on match.com, but but, and, and
- 27:36I had a lot of, a lot of just first dates.
- 27:39Because the just wasn't there. I don't know what what about
- 27:42you, Michelle? When you, when you know back in
- 27:44the day when you were dating, it's like I, I always feel like
- 27:47within the 1st 10 minutes, I kind of know what's going on.
- 27:50Yeah, I feel like you kind of you I, yes, you know, if like
- 27:54the chemistry is there or not within, like you said, at least
- 27:58like the 1st 20 minutes 15. If the conversation is flowing
- 28:02well and you're not having to struggle to think of things that
- 28:06to talk about, you know, you're just having a good time in the
- 28:09moment, then I think you're like, Oh yeah, obviously the the
- 28:12vibe is there, but if it's a struggle, then you're like, oh,
- 28:16shit, like this is going to be a long date like.
- 28:18What I've had, oh, I've had some of those.
- 28:20I've definitely had some of those.
- 28:21But, but, but it's what you know.
- 28:23And then I've also had, I think like everybody else, I've also
- 28:25had those, what do they call it? Miss, Miss ships.
- 28:28Ships passing in the night. Right.
- 28:30Because, because I because years later you discover like, oh, we
- 28:33went on a date, it didn't work out.
- 28:34And then they're like, Oh, well, I really wanted it to.
- 28:37Not me, not really like to go. Or yeah.
- 28:40And I'm like, well, I didn't, I didn't pick that up.
- 28:42I didn't get that vibe. I didn't during that during the
- 28:44initial first date, I didn't get it.
- 28:46I didn't, you know, So so there was a bunch, bunch of those.
- 28:49But I always look at it like the best part about life is I
- 28:52believe fate. I think there is some force out
- 28:56there that it all turns out the way it's supposed to turn out.
- 28:59Right. It all shakes out like what is
- 29:01what's what's supposed to happen for you?
- 29:03But then there are other people that say like you need to take
- 29:06fate into your own hands and make your own interesting,
- 29:09whatever it is that you need to make for yourself.
- 29:12So I. I think fate has decided that me
- 29:15never receiving a compliment, never.
- 29:17Someone not making my someone, someone not making phone calls
- 29:20for me when I asked and begged them to.
- 29:22I think, I think that's the universe.
- 29:24That's the universe, you know, putting me in my place.
- 29:27It is. I love that.
- 29:28I love that for you. OK, OK.
- 29:30I want to talk about this whole we keep.
- 29:32Yes, let's. Do teasing this like.
- 29:34Mormon wives, you got to tell me what the fascination with this
- 29:38because I guess because I went, I went to college.
- 29:41Oh, actually, I worked in Idaho Falls, ID many years ago at Z1
- 29:46O3 Southeast Idaho's number one hit music station way back in
- 29:49the day. And when I moved to move to
- 29:52southern Idaho and this, This includes Boise and Napa and
- 29:56Pocatello and Twin Falls and all that.
- 29:58It is heavily Mormon. Yes, heavily.
- 30:03So Rexburg ID and Blackfoot ID where I was doing radio.
- 30:06It was one of those things where it's like, so there was a sense
- 30:09of pretentiousness around these towns.
- 30:13I know. I don't know.
- 30:14You've never been never been Michelle to like Idaho Falls,
- 30:17where right in the center of town is the temple.
- 30:20And then they've got they've got Gabriel the golden statue right
- 30:24at the top. And I always thought I was
- 30:25pretentious because at the very bottom here's all the homeless
- 30:27people vague rating around the temple, you know, and I'm like,
- 30:31well, pretty was like, well, if you are religious, if you're
- 30:34Christians or duh, duh. Why are you not helping these
- 30:36people? You have this beautiful temple
- 30:39that you've built to yourselves or whoever you've taken your
- 30:42money, you know, I'm saying, and you spend it like drunken
- 30:45sailors. So I was fascinated by that.
- 30:47Then, of course, being told, did you ever watch?
- 30:49There's they're all over the Internet right now.
- 30:51There's these little reels about kids going to BYU, bring them
- 30:55down your university, which is very Mormon, and they talk about
- 30:58soaking and they talk about all these different.
- 31:00Stuff, you know, because you told me the definition of that.
- 31:04I think a couple podcasts ago or something.
- 31:07I didn't even know it that way. And so in these interviews,
- 31:09they're always talking about #1 getting married.
- 31:13So the reason why it, you know, BYU is where they, you know, I
- 31:16mean, they, they have an interview, 1 gal who said, you
- 31:19know, how long did it take your roommate to get engaged?
- 31:2106 weeks, I mean. It is crazy.
- 31:23But but that's but that's. Part of that's the culture.
- 31:27That's the culture. Yep.
- 31:29So, so it's so I had that. So I need you to break it down
- 31:32for me because to me I have one Viewpoints, you know, they don't
- 31:37drink caffeine. There's a huge list.
- 31:40Well. My viewpoint is I think I know
- 31:42why I'm so drawn to, especially like the Mormons and the FLDS,
- 31:48you know, fraction of it or what subset of it, whatever.
- 31:51What's the What's? The Warren Jeffs, the FLFLFLDS,
- 31:57you know, Warren Jeffs, the one that was in prison.
- 31:59They're like the really extreme ones that wear like the dresses
- 32:02and the hair and. Oh my gosh.
- 32:04OK, so yeah, that's not even, that's not even the regular LDS
- 32:07folks. OK, so.
- 32:08Correct. OK, so this is a.
- 32:09This is an option. Like the extreme, Yeah.
- 32:11Are they right? Are they polygamous?
- 32:14Yes. And the also wives.
- 32:16Yes. And you know, Warren Jeffs, like
- 32:17he's in, he was in prison because they were marrying young
- 32:21girls. And so is he's in cold?
- 32:22Yeah. It's a cold.
- 32:23Yes. Yeah.
- 32:24So, yeah. So that's like, yeah, that's a
- 32:26little offshoot. I don't know what you would call
- 32:28it, a Mormonism Anyway, like I'm really drawn to like, those
- 32:32documentaries about it and that kind of stuff.
- 32:34Well, like, I figure I think I figured out why.
- 32:37So a few years ago, my aunt gave my brother and I copies of so
- 32:42our granddad's like, World War 2 diary.
- 32:45And also, so it would be my great, great, I think, yeah. 2
- 32:50greats. Grandma, her diary.
- 32:53So her name was Sarah. And I happen to be like flipping
- 32:56through this, not thinking really anything like, oh, this
- 32:59is just going to be some diary that really isn't that
- 33:02interesting. Well, come to find out, Sarah
- 33:05and her family, they're in Missouri.
- 33:08And they were some of the original disciples of Joseph
- 33:12Smith. You know, they were all in
- 33:13Missouri. That's where they were.
- 33:16And then I don't know if it was the state or who came like,
- 33:19knocking on their doors and basically telling them, like,
- 33:22you better leave or we're going to kill you is what what was
- 33:25happening. And so that's why they all
- 33:27packed up and headed West and ended up in Utah.
- 33:30So in her diary, she talks about how the wagon was so full she
- 33:35had to walk, you know, people that die along the way, some of
- 33:39the terrain. And they get to Utah and they're
- 33:43there for a couple years in her diary, and then all of a sudden
- 33:48they just moved to Medford, OR and then they're no longer
- 33:51Mormon. But she doesn't say, like, what
- 33:54happened. Why?
- 33:57And I never knew, like, our family was Mormon at one point
- 34:01in time. So I'm wondering if if something
- 34:06happened that maybe like her mom and dad didn't approve of, maybe
- 34:12in the Mormon culture, maybe they were going to marry her off
- 34:15as like, you know, she was a young girl and that would have
- 34:18been the thing back then. So I don't know, like she
- 34:22doesn't give a reason why they just all of a sudden moved to
- 34:25Oregon and are no longer Mormon. But if they would have stayed
- 34:28Mormon, like I would have been like Mormon royalty then in like
- 34:32the culture, because my family was like one of the original
- 34:36like, like believers and disciples.
- 34:39And so we would have been considered like one of the
- 34:42families in Mormonism. So that that is that's why I
- 34:46think I'm drawn to it. I don't know, like I just, I
- 34:49think it's like my great great grandma, like yeah, yeah, like,
- 34:53yeah, yeah. I don't know.
- 34:54I I just have a fascination with it.
- 34:56I don't know if that's why, but. I, I guess I just struggle
- 34:59because I struggle. Hey, I, hey, I'm not perfect.
- 35:03I'm the, I mean, I'm not perfect.
- 35:04I'm the furthest thing from perfect it'll ever be at least.
- 35:07But I don't lie about it or I don't act, you know, I'm saying
- 35:09I don't put errors on about it. So I struggle so much with
- 35:13people who say one thing and do another.
- 35:16That is the biggest struggle with me.
- 35:18Yes, I I mean, for me it's like, hey, you know, I'm an open book.
- 35:21I'm as I'm as hypocritical as they come.
- 35:25And I'll admit it. I'll admit it.
- 35:27Yeah, I'll change it. I'll change my viewpoint on
- 35:29anything at A at a whim. I'm I'm wishy washy.
- 35:33I get it. I know my, I know my personality
- 35:35well enough to know you know you.
- 35:37It's easy to convince me of something if you say that this
- 35:39is a better way. And so, so for me, it's like,
- 35:42and so I guess I struggle with that and I don't, I don't know.
- 35:47I mean, I've known quite a few Mormons but there, but I've
- 35:50always felt that there was an aura, aura of arrogance about
- 35:53them. Right.
- 35:54They are better than everyone else, yeah.
- 35:57You know, and so it's so to me, it's like I kind of, I kind of
- 36:00struggle with that. Because they're going to, you
- 36:03know, heaven, the top tier of heaven, and we are not so.
- 36:06Yeah, but, but, and, and when I was younger, so when I was
- 36:09younger, I was absolutely fascinated when I was trying to
- 36:12find my own way in terms of religion.
- 36:15So I had gone to, I had Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, the
- 36:21different, the different religions that were around in my
- 36:23town of Clarkston. So I spent time with, I have, I
- 36:26have friends who are Jehovah Witnesses.
- 36:27I have friends who are Mormons. And I would go and I would go to
- 36:31their churches and go to the services just to see if I liked
- 36:35it or what, you know, what the, what the whole thing was about.
- 36:38And so and so it because I am curious, but my, my biggest
- 36:43struggle more than anything else is I, I'm a big, hey, I'm not
- 36:46saying that you can't fall down and make mistakes because we all
- 36:49do. I mean, I'm as guilty as anybody
- 36:51in terms of but, but I just don't.
- 36:54I don't lie. I don't lie about it.
- 36:56I don't, I don't do something horrific on Sunday.
- 36:59I don't do something horrific on Saturday night and then Sunday
- 37:01morning I'm in church going, you know, right, I'm a virgin.
- 37:05Praise be like. Yes, yes, exactly.
- 37:08I'm like, no, I don't think so. It's like, no, you're a heathen.
- 37:12And so and so I'm, I'm never surprised when stuff like that
- 37:16comes out about like, Oh my God, I can't believe that about
- 37:18somebody. I'm usually like, you know, you,
- 37:21you, you can't just take everybody with face value.
- 37:24No, no, just like you can't anything on social media.
- 37:27Is it real either like? Right.
- 37:28Exactly. If if I go, if I go to Michelle
- 37:31Matthews Closet and I creak it Open Creek, there's going to be
- 37:36some skeletons that are going to drop out of there.
- 37:38Of course, we all have them. And then and then you go over to
- 37:41my, my, my, my closet squid. You have a walking closet full
- 37:45of them. What are you talking?
- 37:47About I'm going to have probably triple to quadruple what
- 37:51Michelle has. Dropping out there, walking
- 37:53closet walking. Skeleton, you know, but on, but
- 37:59on. But I will defend it on multiple
- 38:01occasions. I have done the right thing too.
- 38:03Yes, yeah, yeah. But on multiple occasions.
- 38:06Are you learn? Are you learn from those?
- 38:09Yes, skeletons I would like. To I I'm feeling better.
- 38:13I'm feeling better about trying to when my when my wife tells me
- 38:17to to do something or get something fixed.
- 38:19I'm calling, I want to send. I need to get better.
- 38:23You need to get better. Is that what you said?
- 38:25I I just need. Or you're getting better.
- 38:28I'm trying to get better, but but I'm but I'm not angry.
- 38:32I'm not angry at her. I'm angry at myself when things
- 38:34when things like, like the Ant situation that that had been
- 38:37going on for a couple years. Are you angry at yourself
- 38:40because you start to spiral about the cost of things or the
- 38:43fact that you don't want to make the phone call or all of it?
- 38:46All of it. But The thing is, once it's
- 38:49done, it's done. Right.
- 38:50And you're just. Like so so two years ago.
- 38:53So 2 years ago when we started noticing the little sawdust.
- 38:56Normal people just pick up the phone and call whoever to come
- 39:00fix it. Yeah, for me, it takes me years
- 39:03of stubbornness. Can you imagine the termite
- 39:06damage that would have done if you would have waited 2 years?
- 39:08I would have. Waited.
- 39:09Yeah, yeah. Well, look, I mean, I knew it
- 39:11was just the one wall or whatever, so.
- 39:13But no termites would have spread like crazy.
- 39:16So don't wait two years anymore. Yeah, so it's but I, but I'm
- 39:21hard headed like that. I'm hard headed like that.
- 39:23Yeah. So I don't know.
- 39:24I don't, you know, so, so the fascination with the IT, it so
- 39:28is it, but it's just because of of your lineage that you're
- 39:31thinking. I don't know, that's just like a
- 39:33funny like thing that I thought of the other day.
- 39:36Like I've always been interested in cults, so OK, like, I don't
- 39:40think that's necessarily it, but to discover that I was like,
- 39:44holy shit. Like we could have been like top
- 39:46tier, like Mormon family. You know, I think I would have
- 39:50been married off to some other prominent Mormon families like.
- 39:55I think, yeah. I mean, I think it's interesting
- 39:57because our buddy Tom Reddick was Mormon.
- 40:01And you might not have known that about Tom and Deb, but I
- 40:03think they were Mormon and then they had to get married in the
- 40:05temple or there's you're not allowed in the temple, this
- 40:08person allowed in. I mean all this.
- 40:10Hierarchy. I might as well be Scientology
- 40:12and all this crap saying. Which I do want to talk about
- 40:16Scientology, so yeah, you. Want to talk about Scientology?
- 40:19Well, I wanted to ask you if you've seen the tick tock trend
- 40:22about them. Since we're talking about cults,
- 40:23we might as well roll into this talk about science.
- 40:26Oh yeah, so. We might as well cover them all.
- 40:28OK, really, really quick. Do you believe Scientology is a
- 40:31cult? Yeah.
- 40:33Absolutely. So So do you.
- 40:34Do you believe Mormons? Are a cult, yes.
- 40:37Oh my God. Well, you're, you're a lot
- 40:39tougher on, you know. Yes, they are, I think.
- 40:42I think there's cult like behavior.
- 40:44Yes, so I agree, but they are a cult and to me I feel like, so
- 40:50you know, they talk about Joseph Smith and how he looked into the
- 40:53hat and saw whatever is I think he was.
- 40:57I think he was like legit crazy because back then there was not.
- 41:02Yeah, there wasn't like schizophrenic or that wasn't a
- 41:05thing back then. And I think he was like legit
- 41:08cuckoo for cuckoo and people believed it, yes.
- 41:12And now? It's it could have been like
- 41:14poisoning. It could have been lithium
- 41:15poison, it could have been, it could have been syphilis.
- 41:19I mean, you look at all the things that can happen that
- 41:21creates illusions or delusions. Yeah, yes, yes.
- 41:24So that's what I that's my theory about it.
- 41:27But yes, I do think Mormonism is a cult.
- 41:30Scientology is a cult. Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult.
- 41:34Wow. If you look at the, if you look
- 41:37at the byte scale, I mean, we might lose some listeners now
- 41:40because here I am like throwing all these cult, all these
- 41:42religions under. The bus, yes, I'm sure three of
- 41:45them are Jehovah Witnesses that are.
- 41:47Yeah, that are really listening to our podcast.
- 41:50I think we've already put our religious views out there
- 41:52already. Yes, we have anybody that was in
- 41:54that, in that they're already gone so.
- 41:56You're yeah, yeah, they were gone like the first, first, our
- 41:59first episode, our introduction episode.
- 42:02So, yeah, Scientology is a cult. But have you seen like, I'm
- 42:06sorry, I have like this hair that's like getting in my mouth.
- 42:09Have you seen the TikTok trend that's going around?
- 42:14It's mainly like younger people. I've seen the video of them.
- 42:18They're standing outside a lot of the buildings.
- 42:20And this is just various buildings all over America and
- 42:24even Canada. There's one video where they're
- 42:27all dressed up as minions and they're just like standing
- 42:30outside these buildings like Torment the Scientologist.
- 42:35And then there's some videos where they're, they're getting
- 42:39in the buildings and like running through them for fun,
- 42:43which is creating chaos. And then like, so now all these
- 42:48Scientology buildings are like locked down the centers, the
- 42:51whatever. So people like if you or I were
- 42:55like interested in Scientology, we couldn't go in there and be
- 42:58like, hey, I'm kind of interested in this and they're
- 43:01all being locked down. But I do.
- 43:04But please don't run through the buildings because these kids
- 43:07will be arrested basically for like breaking and entering.
- 43:11So please don't do that. Yeah, please don't do that.
- 43:15But somebody was like commenting on social media, like the
- 43:18youngsters are taking down Scientology in like a couple
- 43:21weeks when you for years people have been like trying to create
- 43:25like documentaries and all this stuff.
- 43:27And it hasn't worked. So, you know, problems to the
- 43:30young people. But I just thought it was funny.
- 43:32Yeah. That really that that you know,
- 43:33I know. Leah, Leah Remini.
- 43:35I. Believe and I've watched all her
- 43:37shows on A&E about it. And then, and and then, and then
- 43:40you look at Danny Masterson from That 70s Show.
- 43:45How? That was the Nexium, wasn't it?
- 43:48No, that was, that was Scientology.
- 43:50And so the, the 2 girls he raped or suppose allegedly raped were
- 43:55all Scientologists. And he did it in the early 2000s
- 43:59and they were all part of Scientology.
- 44:01And then and then when they broke away the girls, they went,
- 44:05wait a minute, we were we were raped by this guy.
- 44:08And then and then they tried to cover it up.
- 44:11So because they apparently they have their own secret police and
- 44:15all these. Weird.
- 44:15Like yes. No, it's which?
- 44:17Wow, that's what. Yeah, and watching like Leah,
- 44:20like Leah Remini stuff like she talks about like being followed
- 44:24and how Scientology. And so that was another thing
- 44:27that one of the commenters was saying about all these young
- 44:29people, especially like the ones running through the building.
- 44:31Like Scientology will like they are relentless.
- 44:34Like they will stalk you, they will follow you.
- 44:37They will whatever it is. So the one comment or he, I
- 44:42mean, he was like a cult specialist.
- 44:43And so he was just telling them like, please be careful.
- 44:46Think about what you're doing, because this is the consequences
- 44:49when you're dealing with Scientology.
- 44:51Well, and yeah, I mean, and again, they they the center is
- 44:55what the big one is in Beverly Hills where Tom Cruise and all
- 44:58the and, and their goal is to recruit the very wealthy and.
- 45:02So that's why they're keeping them basically, these buildings
- 45:06locked down and people can't just like stroll in and learn
- 45:09about there's an RL Hubbard or whatever it is.
- 45:12And again, like anything, there's all these levels.
- 45:15Yeah. And.
- 45:16You have to pay all these classes to get to the levels.
- 45:20Yes, yes, exactly. It's ridiculous.
- 45:22I mean, at the end of the day, it's kind of when you think
- 45:24about that kind of stuff, it's just absolutely ridiculous.
- 45:28And then I wanna say yeah that they Scientologists do not go to
- 45:32heaven. They get reborn on a different
- 45:35planet. Is are they the ones with the
- 45:36planet? I think yes, I know.
- 45:38Yes, I know. It's like, yes, well, I mean
- 45:41they're. That's Ronald Hubbard, which is
- 45:43a great, you know, you know, Dianetics and stuff like that.
- 45:46I mean, I know enough about a little bit of this stuff that,
- 45:48you know, I'm definitely no expert in it, but I am familiar
- 45:51with some of this stuff that I've read a little bit about it
- 45:54because it is, it is absolutely fascinating.
- 45:57And, and for me, I've always looked at it like so I had, I
- 46:01really, you know, we already talked about in previous
- 46:02podcasts, I really struggled. My, my grandma King was a
- 46:05wonderful human being. She was on the Wallaces side.
- 46:08Normally I don't talk good about the Wallaces, but she was the
- 46:11one bright spots in the Wallaces.
- 46:15And, and I even talked about her in my in my book, where it's
- 46:19like without her, I probably wouldn't, I wouldn't have
- 46:21stayed. But anyway, we would go to
- 46:23church and we'd be in church and then they would be doing the
- 46:28hands in the air. And then, and then my
- 46:30grandmother, you know, would speak in tongues.
- 46:32And I'm like, OK, I'm out on on that.
- 46:34And I thought to myself, as I watch this, when I watch Jimmy
- 46:38Swaggart or Joel Osteen or any of these people, it's
- 46:41psychology. At the end of the day, you have
- 46:45an incredible orator who elicits an emotional response, but they
- 46:50they initiate an emotional response from the audience, you
- 46:54know? They're playing on emotions.
- 46:57All, all of that, all of that. And that's what, and that's
- 47:00where cults come from. That's, you know, how you get
- 47:02indoctrinated into, you know, we're talking about the Nexium
- 47:04thing, all these different things.
- 47:06It's like, it's like you have to be emotionally available for
- 47:11these things to happen to you. Yeah.
- 47:14And then when they have. People are like searching for
- 47:16something and always end up absolutely.
- 47:19Yeah, and be honest and truthful.
- 47:21Aren't we all? Of course.
- 47:24Wouldn't you like to know what the end game is at the end?
- 47:29You know, sadly, I pretty much think it's going to be dirt, but
- 47:33but I mean. Depending on what route you want
- 47:36to go. Mine's fire because I'm just
- 47:37going to be cremated. Well, I've got I've got meet and
- 47:40greet passes backstage down down below.
- 47:45Anybody, anybody, whoever tries to to use, you know, use that
- 47:48against me. I'm like, oh, don't worry, I got
- 47:49meet and greets. I'm good.
- 47:50I got VIP status. But but in my heart.
- 47:54So as I was watching my, my grandmother do this, you know,
- 47:58and as I went to and I went to Northwest Nazarene and I did all
- 48:00of this as a kid. I, I mean, we've talked about I
- 48:03was a junior Deacon, I was the youth group president.
- 48:06I mean, I was heavily. You drank the Kool-aid, Yeah.
- 48:09Well, no, no, no, it wasn't even about drinking kool-aid.
- 48:11I was just, I was just heavily involved in my church and
- 48:14different things like that. But I never here's the here's
- 48:18the problem I had. I never had the faith ever.
- 48:22And for me, when it comes to hypocrisy, is I really
- 48:27rationalize it by one thing and one thing only.
- 48:29If someone walked up to me right now, put a gun to my head and
- 48:33say you either believe or you don't.
- 48:35Your life depends on it. I knew in my hearts of hearts
- 48:39what for my what my reality is doesn't mean that's your
- 48:41reality, doesn't mean that it's someone else's reality.
- 48:44But and if and if someone is willing to die for that, that's
- 48:49faith. Right.
- 48:50No, that's conviction of the hearts.
- 48:52And I knew I couldn't. I can't get there.
- 48:55I can sit with a bunch of people.
- 48:57I can La La, la, la, la, hands in the air.
- 48:59I and I'll be truthful. I feel nothing right.
- 49:03But meanwhile around me, obviously the spirit or
- 49:06whatever, you know, hey, they're, they're in, they're in
- 49:09they they, but. There's a lot of people who say
- 49:12that they would take that bullet, but in reality?
- 49:16They wouldn't because I think at the at at the end of the day.
- 49:19They're just based, but they'll say like, oh, I would take that
- 49:22bullet. At the end of the day, I'm a
- 49:23coward. At the end of the day, I would,
- 49:25I would really, I would readily say I'm a coward.
- 49:27I, I'm a coward and, and I can't think of anything unless it's my
- 49:31own son or my family, my wife or something.
- 49:34You know, that I would be that can that, you know, conviction
- 49:37of the heart that I'm willing to give my life for that, for that
- 49:40situation. And sadly, even when you watch
- 49:43the movie, a movie, you're like, well, they're still going to
- 49:45kill those people no matter what.
- 49:48Yes. You know, so I need to go and so
- 49:50I need to go Rambo on this shit and take everybody out.
- 49:52John Wickett because, I mean, it's there is some truth to
- 49:57that. Yeah.
- 49:58You know, so it's one of those things.
- 50:00So for me, I just always have struggled as you try to put that
- 50:03all into perspective. I've struggled with with faith
- 50:06of the heart. Right, which I love.
- 50:09Have you watched The Righteous Gemstones?
- 50:11No, on HBO. Oh my God, you have to watch it.
- 50:14It's fabulous. So.
- 50:16I'll put it on my, I'll put it on my watch list.
- 50:18So and that, and that's in a nutshell.
- 50:20And so I always talk a lot about it.
- 50:21It's like, I'm, you know, why, why am I agnostic?
- 50:23Because I don't disbelief, you know, I mean, I, I don't have
- 50:27hard evidence that there isn't. Exactly.
- 50:29But I don't also have evidence that there is great.
- 50:32And so and so, yes, if that if that sky opened up right now and
- 50:37you know, now there are things that my wonderful foster mom
- 50:39made me aware of is I don't I don't blasphemy the Lord, right?
- 50:43I mean, I don't do those things because I don't disrespect other
- 50:46religions. I don't disrespect people who
- 50:48are religious because that's just wrong.
- 50:50If you're a good person, you don't do that.
- 50:52Great. Everybody has their own rights
- 50:54to believe their own thing. Exactly.
- 50:56Exactly. But when you.
- 50:58Start to recruit me. Exactly.
- 51:00Or when you start harming people that I have asked physically or
- 51:04mentally, which a lot of these religions, it's mentally that
- 51:07they're hurting that's. That's where I step in.
- 51:09That's where I step in when they protect the pastor who, like, he
- 51:12molested a bunch of children. Like, yeah, but he didn't mean
- 51:14it. Oh, the F he did.
- 51:16You know one thing, one thing that my my wonderful foster mom
- 51:19did teach me is I'm an eye for an eye person.
- 51:21So that is the one area where I'm like brimstone and fire.
- 51:25You got it, man. You're a, you're a pedophile,
- 51:27you're child molester. You did all that damage.
- 51:30You already know how I feel. I think it's even worse when
- 51:32it's people who are hiding behind, whether it's, you know,
- 51:36religion or power, you know, people that are in those higher
- 51:39trust, yes, that we would think, oh, it's the priest.
- 51:43So you just go along with whatever the hell they say
- 51:47because of it. And that to me is 10 times as
- 51:50worse as just a normal person. Well, that's what I mean.
- 51:52It's bad all around. But I'm just saying they use
- 51:55that power and that control over people because you wouldn't
- 51:58question the pastor or the. That's why.
- 52:01But that's why you don't elevate Kanye West, you don't elevate R
- 52:05Kelly. You don't.
- 52:06But we do. We do.
- 52:08We elevate those people. What's this most recent one,
- 52:10David, you know that killed the 14 year old girl or is
- 52:14allegedly. The rapper.
- 52:16Yes, you know, And so it's like when?
- 52:19And the problem is whole families get sucked into it.
- 52:23Yeah. You know?
- 52:24Well, well, honey, honey, he's got money.
- 52:26He'll take care of you like he's the low.
- 52:29He's the most wireless disgusting human on the planet,
- 52:33you know, So anyway, it's so. Yeah.
- 52:35So it's, it's, it's, it's one of those things where we, we cannot
- 52:39just put people on pedestals, you know, and expect greatness
- 52:42or not to them to have flaws. Because at the end of the day,
- 52:45we're all. Flawed.
- 52:46We all do. Yeah, exactly.
- 52:48OK. We're almost done something.
- 52:50I know we're almost out of town. I'm going to go dress up like a
- 52:51minion. I'll be back.
- 52:52I'm going to run through some buildings as a minion.
- 52:57That's it for today's episode of Rick and That Michelle J, Thanks
- 53:02for hanging out with us. If you laughed, rolled your
- 53:04eyes, or question our sanity even once, make sure you hit
