- 1:12Speaker 6: Hour of hell.
- 1:33Speaker 14: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:35Speaker 14: Killers soundtrack. I'm Brian, and this week we will be
- 1:38Speaker 14: bringing you coverage from the recent West Fest 2. Yes,
- 1:40Speaker 14: last year provided such a great soundtrack episode that I
- 1:43Speaker 14: was thrilled when Heather asked us to come back and
- 1:45Speaker 14: be part of this year's show. And for me, I
- 1:47Speaker 14: wanted to add something extra this year. So aside from
- 1:49Speaker 14: just playing some of the soundtrack-themed songs from the event,
- 1:52Speaker 14: I'll also welcome not one, but two special guests to
- 1:55Speaker 14: sit in this episode, both of whom were performers at
- 1:57Speaker 14: this year's show. So we'll discuss how they decided to
- 2:00Speaker 14: approach their performance, as well as their exposure and thoughts
- 2:03Speaker 14: on Wes Anderson's movies and soundtracks in general. But first,
- 2:06Speaker 14: I thought we would kick off the episode just the
- 2:08Speaker 14: way the event did, with our all-around host and house
- 2:10Speaker 14: band for the evening. This is Oscar Parsons and the
- 2:13Speaker 14: Picket Line with Take These Chains From My Heart, originally
- 2:15Speaker 14: featured in Moonrise Kingdom.
- 2:17Speaker 9: Down in the boroughs, one of our favorites to play
- 2:20Speaker 9: is Penguins.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Well, take these chains from my heart and set me free. Oh,
- 2:29Speaker 5: you've grown cold and no longer care for me.
- 2:47Speaker 7: All my faith in you is gone But my heart
- 2:56Speaker 7: keeps beating, no Take these chains from my heart And
- 3:03Speaker 7: set me free Take these tears from my eyes.
- 3:13Speaker 6: And let me see.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Just the spark of love that there used to be
- 3:26Speaker 7: And if you love somebody new Let me love somebody
- 3:33Speaker 7: too Take these chains from my heart and set me free.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Give my heart just one word of sympathy.
- 4:28Speaker 7: As fair to my heart as you can be Then
- 4:37Speaker 7: if you no longer care For the love that's a-meeting
- 4:44Speaker 7: there Take these chains from my heart and set me free.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Thank you for watching.
- 5:26Speaker 7: Well, take these chains.
- 5:31Speaker 15: From my heart and.
- 5:33Speaker 9: Let me free.
- 5:38Speaker 7: When you grow cold and no longer care for.
- 5:46Speaker 9: Me, all my faith.
- 5:48Speaker 15: In you is gone, but my heart.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Take these chains from my heart and set me free
- 6:04Speaker 7: Take these chains.
- 6:07Speaker 9: From my heart and set me free Thank you very much.
- 6:20Speaker 16: All right, so now we have a special guest here
- 6:22Speaker 16: with us.
- 6:22Speaker 14: I guess to introduce yourself and then your band that
- 6:25Speaker 14: you're affiliated with.
- 6:27Speaker 2: My name is Jonathan A. Mitchell. I play with a
- 6:31Speaker 2: group called Nelly Pearl.
- 6:33Speaker 16: And how did you get involved with West Fest?
- 6:38Speaker 17: I was contacted by Heather, Miss Hey DJ. and uh
- 6:45Speaker 17: she asked if we were interested she actually asked us
- 6:48Speaker 17: in like november or december if we were interested and
- 6:51Speaker 17: uh our bass player thought he had a gig booked
- 6:54Speaker 17: on the same weekend and so we turned it down
- 6:57Speaker 17: reluctantly like i really didn't want to do it i
- 6:59Speaker 17: remember talking to our drummer and like are we really
- 7:02Speaker 17: going to turn this gig down it's.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Going to be great a chance to.
- 7:04Speaker 17: Play at the mercury and um just a chance to
- 7:08Speaker 17: get involved in a cool event we all like wes
- 7:09Speaker 17: anderson and uh it's like what else are we gonna
- 7:12Speaker 17: do you know he's booked already so we can't we
- 7:15Speaker 17: said we couldn't do it and i had gone to
- 7:19Speaker 17: oregon for like three weeks three and a half weeks
- 7:22Speaker 17: over christmas and came back and we finally got together
- 7:26Speaker 17: sometime in like mid-january and we're just like talking about
- 7:30Speaker 17: how sad we were that we couldn't play the event
- 7:32Speaker 17: and he's like ask us what the date was and
- 7:35Speaker 17: i told him and he said well uh why.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Did we turn that down again? Like I'm not booked
- 7:39Speaker 2: that weekend.
- 7:40Speaker 17: What are you talking about? And he's like, well, I mean, I, uh, I'm,
- 7:44Speaker 17: I'm booked like on the 20th. I thought that's what
- 7:46Speaker 17: you said. I was like, it's on the seven, man.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So I just called Heather immediately.
- 7:51Speaker 17: Like right then I called her and she said that
- 7:53Speaker 17: they were actually getting ready to make a decision on,
- 7:55Speaker 17: they had one more slot. They couldn't fill it yet.
- 7:57Speaker 17: And they were getting ready to make a decision maybe
- 7:59Speaker 17: that day or the next day. And that since we
- 8:02Speaker 17: had called the time we could, We could fill that space,
- 8:05Speaker 17: so we were very fortunate.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I guess.
- 8:08Speaker 12: Definitely.
- 8:09Speaker 14: Well, I guess, how long has the band been together,
- 8:11Speaker 14: and sort of where did it find its origins?
- 8:14Speaker 17: Nelly Pearl's been together for over two years now, I
- 8:17Speaker 17: guess like around two and a half years. I was
- 8:21Speaker 17: playing in a band called Blunt Honey, which is still playing.
- 8:25Speaker 17: We're playing next week with Blunt.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Nelly Pearl, actually.
- 8:31Speaker 8: Double duty.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 17: So it's our first show in like a year and
- 8:34Speaker 17: a half. And that band, we had some health issues.
- 8:38Speaker 17: And so we decided to take.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Some time off.
- 8:43Speaker 17: And I was just writing a lot of music at
- 8:45Speaker 17: the time and didn't have any place for.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It to go.
- 8:47Speaker 17: And so me and my friend Jess Langer started singing
- 8:52Speaker 17: these songs together. And I knew the guys that played
- 8:56Speaker 17: bass and drums and asked if they wanted to play
- 8:58Speaker 17: and just got together and did it again and just
- 9:02Speaker 17: kind of kept going from there.
- 9:03Speaker 9: Definitely.
- 9:04Speaker 14: And then how did, did you initially plan on having
- 9:07Speaker 14: sort of dual locals going there?
- 9:09Speaker 18: Uh, yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 17: A lot of the stuff I was writing was for
- 9:13Speaker 17: a male and a female to sing together and sometimes
- 9:16Speaker 17: like back and forth, which I'd never done before. And
- 9:18Speaker 17: that was part of Nelly Pearl was getting away. Blunt
- 9:21Speaker 17: Honey was really, um, roots. Like, bluegrass you know like
- 9:27Speaker 17: a string band set up and so like it wasn't
- 9:30Speaker 17: necessarily traditional bluegrass but it was close and um i
- 9:34Speaker 17: wanted to write weird stuff you know like i fell
- 9:37Speaker 17: in love with music with the beatles and radiohead and
- 9:40Speaker 17: fish and these experimental bands and so i've always wanted
- 9:43Speaker 17: to experiment and that's started with the songwriting and now
- 9:47Speaker 17: has eventually led to the instrumentation and the band is
- 9:50Speaker 17: getting more experimental it's a lot.
- 9:52Speaker 9: Of fun well here we are I'd like to bring
- 9:55Speaker 9: you the pearls coming up next on stage. right now.
- 10:40Speaker 19: Police the thieves in the streets. War on the nation
- 10:47Speaker 19: with guns and ammunition. Police the thieves in the streets.
- 10:57Speaker 19: Killing the nation with guns and ammunition. From Genesis to Revelation.
- 11:08Speaker 19: The next generation will be heavenly.
- 11:14Speaker 7: The genocide.
- 11:17Speaker 15: The demolition.
- 11:19Speaker 2: The next generation.
- 11:25Speaker 9: And the crowd.
- 11:26Speaker 19: Comes in day by day. No one's stopping in any way.
- 11:37Speaker 19: All the peacemakers Turned war.
- 11:40Speaker 11: Off the side Hear what I say.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Police the face in the.
- 11:50Speaker 19: Street Oh yeah Killing the nation with that Gone to
- 11:57Speaker 19: nomination Police the face in the street Oh yeah Killing
- 12:05Speaker 19: the nation with that Guns and ammunition From Genesis To
- 12:14Speaker 19: Revelation The next generation Will be hear me From Genesis
- 12:25Speaker 19: To Revelation The next generation And the crowd comes in
- 12:37Speaker 19: Day by day No one's stopping in any way. I'm
- 12:45Speaker 19: the peacemaker.
- 12:46Speaker 15: Turn war upside. Hear what I say.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 13:18Speaker 15: Police, police, police and thieves.
- 13:22Speaker 20: Oh yeah!
- 13:23Speaker 19: Police, police, police and thieves.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Oh yeah!
- 13:28Speaker 15: Police, police, police, police and thieves.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Oh yeah!
- 13:33Speaker 13: Police, police, police, police and thieves.
- 13:36Speaker 21: Oh yeah!
- 13:37Speaker 5: Genocide. Revelation.
- 13:46Speaker 7: Next generation.
- 15:03Speaker 14: Because that was what I thought was so different and
- 15:05Speaker 14: kind of striking about what you guys were doing was
- 15:07Speaker 14: the way that the vocals were worked in and the setup.
- 15:10Speaker 14: And any of those that's like, especially a guy and
- 15:12Speaker 14: a girl, I always get like an X thing.
- 15:15Speaker 16: Like that was such a massive, like entertaining thing that
- 15:18Speaker 16: they always did.
- 15:19Speaker 14: So anybody who can kind of capture something similar, I
- 15:21Speaker 14: always love that.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 15:24Speaker 17: But yeah, we, that's always been a, focal point for
- 15:28Speaker 17: the band is the male-female. And now Greg, our bass player,
- 15:32Speaker 17: he's a great singer. And it just kind of, I
- 15:34Speaker 17: don't know, took him a couple years to really feel
- 15:36Speaker 17: comfortable and start finding his niche with us. And he's
- 15:40Speaker 17: got a great falsetto. And so he can throw in
- 15:44Speaker 17: these strange harmonies now. And so we're singing a lot
- 15:46Speaker 17: of three-part. West Fest was really one of the first
- 15:49Speaker 17: shows where we've sung a lot of three-part because it's
- 15:52Speaker 17: the first time that we've worked on a lot of
- 15:54Speaker 17: new material.
- 15:56Speaker 2: For three of us singing.
- 15:57Speaker 17: And, um, so we tried to put that in a
- 16:01Speaker 17: lot of places.
- 16:02Speaker 16: What was a good example that night of that?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Um, well we did, uh, let's see. Oh, jumping Jack flash.
- 16:10Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 11: I was born on a crossfire hurricane. And I yelled
- 16:45Speaker 11: at my mom in the driving rain.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Well, it's all right now. In fact, it's a yes. Yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 5: it's all right.
- 17:01Speaker 22: I'm a jumping jet, flashing some gas, gas, gas. I
- 17:12Speaker 22: was praised by.
- 17:14Speaker 5: A bearded, toothless head. I was screwed with.
- 17:18Speaker 15: A strap right across my back. Well, it's all right now.
- 17:23Speaker 23: In fact, it's a gas.
- 17:25Speaker 24: Yeah, it's.
- 17:28Speaker 5: All right. I've been jumping, jamming, flashing.
- 17:37Speaker 21: It's a gas, gas, gas.
- 18:11Speaker 11: I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead.
- 18:17Speaker 11: I looked down at my feet and saw they'd bled.
- 18:23Speaker 11: I drowned at the crumbs of the crust of bread.
- 18:31Speaker 11: I drowned with a spark right through my heart.
- 18:37Speaker 15: When I saw.
- 18:44Speaker 21: It's all right.
- 18:48Speaker 15: I'm a jumping jack blast. It's a gas, gas, gas.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Jumping Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas.
- 19:40Speaker 17: I think my favorite was Needle in the Hay. The
- 20:02Speaker 17: first time we went through the song or through the chorus,
- 20:05Speaker 17: Rachel sang the same exact not as me saying in
- 20:08Speaker 17: unison with me to give it like that layered Elliot
- 20:10Speaker 17: Smith feel. And, um, but then we also like, we
- 20:14Speaker 17: didn't want to sing it just like Elliot Smith and
- 20:16Speaker 17: put everybody to sleep. And so we wanted to put
- 20:18Speaker 17: her on spin on it.
- 20:19Speaker 16: And you definitely didn't by the end.
- 20:22Speaker 2: People were awake.
- 20:24Speaker 16: Um, It kind of breaks halfway through, and I'm like, oh,
- 20:28Speaker 16: this is awesome.
- 20:29Speaker 2: It kind of took a Nirvana turn, I guess. A
- 20:33Speaker 2: 90s grunge.
- 20:34Speaker 16: Which was really easy.
- 20:36Speaker 17: And appropriate, I felt, because Elliot Smith is from the
- 20:40Speaker 17: Pacific Northwest. He lived in Portland in the 90s and
- 20:44Speaker 17: was making music himself. So it just naturally sounded good.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Just like that. It was perfect.
- 20:52Speaker 14: And especially where it gets used in context with the movie.
- 20:55Speaker 14: It's like, I guess, in the original form, it's sort
- 20:58Speaker 14: of that weird juxtaposition of how calm it is with
- 21:01Speaker 14: the horrible things going on.
- 21:03Speaker 16: And you kind of flipped it and.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Went the other way.
- 21:04Speaker 14: Like, okay, this is sort of the real mood of
- 21:07Speaker 14: what you're probably dealing with.
- 21:09Speaker 16: And then you offed yourself. For anyone who wasn't there,
- 21:13Speaker 16: I guess.
- 21:14Speaker 17: I actually just saw the video of it for the
- 21:17Speaker 17: first time.
- 21:18Speaker 2: And, like, I mean.
- 21:21Speaker 17: I guess for anybody that wasn't there, we staged a
- 21:24Speaker 17: scene from a movie where a man cut his wrist
- 21:28Speaker 17: and attempted suicide to no avail. And we staged this
- 21:34Speaker 17: on stage. And so I came up with the idea
- 21:38Speaker 17: as soon as we chose that song.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I love that movie. I love Elliot Smith. I love
- 21:43Speaker 2: that scene.
- 21:45Speaker 17: And I was dressing up as the same character. And
- 21:47Speaker 17: so it was perfect. We have to do this tune.
- 21:50Speaker 17: But I knew that we couldn't just do it all
- 21:53Speaker 17: soft and sad, and we wanted to really show that
- 21:58Speaker 17: we're a rock band. We get put on acoustic bills.
- 22:01Speaker 17: We're on a bluegrass festival bill coming up soon.
- 22:05Speaker 2: We're the only band with.
- 22:06Speaker 17: Drums, and so we're trying to make it known that
- 22:09Speaker 17: we can throw down pretty hard.
- 22:11Speaker 16: Branch out.
- 22:12Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 17: And so when we picked that song, I really wanted
- 22:15Speaker 17: to go for it. And I wanted to stage that scene.
- 22:19Speaker 17: And Rachel, our singer, didn't necessarily.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Like that idea. And I know she had seen the film.
- 22:24Speaker 17: It had been a while. And so we watched the movie.
- 22:27Speaker 17: And we kind of bounced some more ideas around off
- 22:30Speaker 17: of each other and decided that everybody could get involved.
- 22:33Speaker 17: It wouldn't just be me. And we had lots of
- 22:36Speaker 17: different ideas. And we finally settled on a few ideas.
- 22:39Speaker 17: And I was just all about it the whole time.
- 22:42Speaker 17: It wasn't until afterwards when people were like, man, you
- 22:47Speaker 17: took one hell of a chance up there with that
- 22:49Speaker 17: kind of stunt, man.
- 22:51Speaker 2: That was pretty intense. I was like, really?
- 22:53Speaker 17: They're like, yeah, we actually didn't really know what the
- 22:56Speaker 17: hell was going on until she lit that cigarette. I
- 22:58Speaker 17: think it was Heather was like, man, we were all
- 23:00Speaker 17: kind of like, oh, my God, this is really morbid.
- 23:04Speaker 2: And then she lights the cigarette and takes a puff.
- 23:06Speaker 2: We're like, oh, my God, that's a freaking piece of art.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It was like, oh, but, like, now it makes me
- 23:11Speaker 2: kind of nervous to talk about it.
- 23:13Speaker 14: I mean, that was the best part, is, like, the
- 23:15Speaker 14: fact that by the end, she's just sort of ignoring
- 23:17Speaker 14: the fact that you're killing yourself and smoking your cigarette, and, like,
- 23:21Speaker 14: that was kind of awesome.
- 23:22Speaker 17: Yeah, because, I mean, like, in the end, like, I
- 23:24Speaker 17: felt like Margot didn't really return the love to Richie
- 23:27Speaker 17: like he always had to her, and so it was
- 23:29Speaker 17: really appropriate that she just kept her cold composure.
- 23:32Speaker 16: That was awesome.
- 23:34Speaker 17: Yeah, because initially, it was just, like, the idea was
- 23:37Speaker 17: I was going to, cut my wrist with the fake blood.
- 23:40Speaker 17: And then we came up with the, with the plan
- 23:43Speaker 17: for her to do that. And I'm so glad that
- 23:45Speaker 17: we did now because, uh, apparently my girlfriend was in
- 23:49Speaker 17: the crowd and she said that a woman behind her
- 23:51Speaker 17: didn't realize that it was an act at first. And like,
- 23:55Speaker 17: why is nobody helping that man? Like how, how come
- 23:58Speaker 17: no one's helping him?
- 23:59Speaker 15: Don't interrupt the show.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 16: Move the bodies later.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think our bass player, I came over and actually
- 24:06Speaker 2: kicked my leg.
- 24:08Speaker 16: He'd been waiting to do that for years.
- 24:09Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 24:10Speaker 9: Probably.
- 24:12Speaker 2: He certainly has.
- 24:13Speaker 16: Well, I think it is kind of.
- 24:14Speaker 14: You can't do it any other way but the finale.
- 24:17Speaker 16: I mean, it'd be hard to then get up and
- 24:19Speaker 16: continue on.
- 24:20Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 16: Like, that's your opening number.
- 24:22Speaker 17: We had not planned on doing that last. And so, like,
- 24:27Speaker 17: we had planned on doing the Rolling Stones Jumpin' Jack Flash.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And doing that last.
- 24:35Speaker 21: And.
- 24:37Speaker 17: Even like doing the scene, like cutting the wrist and whatnot.
- 24:40Speaker 17: And then like, we had talked about even like if
- 24:42Speaker 17: we could cut my hair and shave my beard, like
- 24:46Speaker 17: if it could like actually be done on stage and
- 24:48Speaker 17: the amount of time, I'm just.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Like, man, there's no feasible way. Even if I had
- 24:53Speaker 2: somebody helping.
- 24:53Speaker 17: Me, I'm going to be able to... I was dozed
- 24:56Speaker 17: down to go all out for the part.
- 24:58Speaker 16: You're going to start losing people at that point. They're
- 25:01Speaker 16: going to be like, let's go get a drink.
- 25:02Speaker 17: It's going to take 20 minutes to actually shave. But
- 25:07Speaker 17: I was willing. We've bounced a lot of ideas around
- 25:10Speaker 17: for that. We were initially going to do it second
- 25:13Speaker 17: to last. Once we played it, and played Rolling Stones
- 25:20Speaker 17: and that back-to-back.
- 25:21Speaker 2: You can't. There's no other song. You can't play another
- 25:25Speaker 2: song after you've played all that.
- 25:27Speaker 16: There's no coming back from that. It's the all-in at
- 25:29Speaker 16: that point.
- 25:31Speaker 17: It will be interesting to see where that pops up
- 25:33Speaker 17: again in our live shows.
- 25:34Speaker 2: What venue? We're going to break that one out.
- 25:37Speaker 17: We plan on using all of those songs at some point.
- 25:39Speaker 2: We're very excited about them. It's a huge benefit to
- 25:42Speaker 2: playing West Fest.
- 25:45Speaker 12: Want some music for your ears? Doo-Wop Shop makes it
- 25:48Speaker 12: easy to rent for any event, business meeting, or special occasion.
- 25:51Speaker 12: From PA systems to karaoke machines to just about anything
- 25:54Speaker 12: that makes noise, you can rent it from the Doo-Wop Shop.
- 25:57Speaker 12: In Louisville, find them either at their Highland Store at
- 25:59Speaker 12: 1587 Bardstown Road or in the East End at 2915
- 26:03Speaker 12: South Hurstburn Parkway. And look for them online at DooWopShop.com.
- 26:08Speaker 12: Doo-Wop Shop. We're serious about music. Hey there, this is
- 26:19Speaker 12: John Doe.
- 26:20Speaker 16: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 26:22Speaker 6: Glad you are, because otherwise you'd be wasting your time
- 26:24Speaker 6: playing some stupid video game.
- 26:35Speaker 14: Once again, here's Nellie Pearl putting a different spin on
- 26:38Speaker 14: a classic Bowie song.
- 26:39Speaker 16: This is Queen Bitch.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Two.
- 27:02Speaker 25: I'm up on the 11th floor and I'm watching the
- 27:05Speaker 25: cruisers below. He's down on the street and he's trying
- 27:11Speaker 25: hard to pool sister flow. My heart's in the basement,
- 27:18Speaker 25: my weekend's at an all-time low. She's hoping to score,
- 27:25Speaker 25: but I can't see her letting him go. Walk out
- 27:28Speaker 25: of her heart, walk out of her mind. Yeah, she's
- 27:33Speaker 25: so pushy and a static.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Chat And her frock coat and bibbity-bobbity hat Oh, God,
- 27:40Speaker 1: I could do.
- 27:41Speaker 5: Better than that.
- 27:49Speaker 25: She's an old-time ambassador of sweet-talking, not-walking games And she's
- 27:56Speaker 25: known in the darkest of clubs for pushing ahead of
- 27:59Speaker 25: the dames.
- 28:03Speaker 1: If she says she can do it, then she can
- 28:05Speaker 1: do it.
- 28:06Speaker 15: She don't make false claims.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Cause she's a queen and such a queen that your
- 28:12Speaker 1: laughter is sucked in their brains.
- 28:14Speaker 20: Now she's leading them on and she'll.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Lay them right down.
- 28:18Speaker 15: Now she's leading them on and.
- 28:20Speaker 5: She'll lay them right down.
- 28:21Speaker 1: But it could have been me, oh yes it could
- 28:24Speaker 1: have been me Why didn't I say, why didn't I
- 28:29Speaker 1: say No, no, no She goes with the innocent intent
- 28:34Speaker 1: In her black coat and bibbity-bobbity hat Oh, that I could.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Do better than that.
- 28:43Speaker 25: So I lay down a while And I look at
- 28:49Speaker 25: my hotel wall.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Oh, this cot is so cold, it don't feel like no.
- 28:57Speaker 15: Bed at all.
- 29:01Speaker 25: Yeah, I lay down a while, and I stare at
- 29:04Speaker 25: my hotel wall. So I can't feel nothing. Now I'm
- 29:13Speaker 25: calling a cab, and my stomach feels small.
- 29:16Speaker 1: There's a taste in my mouth, and it's no taste
- 29:19Speaker 1: at all. But it could have been me. Oh, yes,
- 29:22Speaker 1: it could have been me. Why didn't I say?
- 29:25Speaker 5: Why didn't I say?
- 29:28Speaker 15: No, no, no.
- 29:29Speaker 21: She's so pushy, understanding, and chad.
- 29:33Speaker 1: In her bright coat and bibbity-bobbity hat.
- 29:35Speaker 13: Oh, but I could do better than that.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Hey, Chadwick.
- 29:31Speaker 15: With no beard, oh my gosh.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Shaved my beard, too. Now I wonder what happened. Well,
- 30:03Speaker 2: we have a special guest.
- 30:05Speaker 16: Introduce yourself and your band.
- 30:07Speaker 6: Hi, I'm Late. I'm Shadwick. I play in a band
- 30:10Speaker 6: called Quiet Hollers.
- 30:13Speaker 14: So we were just discussing working covers into your normal
- 30:18Speaker 14: kind of song choices.
- 30:20Speaker 12: So I don't know.
- 30:21Speaker 16: What were you saying?
- 30:24Speaker 2: We really... We like to.
- 30:27Speaker 17: Just pull out the weirdest cover we possibly can. And
- 30:30Speaker 17: every time we have a local show or go on
- 30:33Speaker 17: a tour or something, we like to try to work
- 30:36Speaker 17: in something strange that we've never heard a band play.
- 30:39Speaker 17: And we had a lot of luck with that this
- 30:41Speaker 17: last year, a few different tunes. And so playing with
- 30:46Speaker 17: West Fest gave us an excuse to just learn six
- 30:48Speaker 17: new awesome songs that we can take on the road
- 30:51Speaker 17: with us and sprinkle in.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Very excited about it, definitely.
- 30:57Speaker 14: Chadwick, you're in a very different spot than everybody else
- 31:00Speaker 14: on the bill as you've been there before.
- 31:02Speaker 16: So I guess what.
- 31:03Speaker 14: Was, because you did a great job last year, so
- 31:06Speaker 14: I was like, now where do you go? How did
- 31:08Speaker 14: you approach it this year as to what you were
- 31:11Speaker 14: going to bring to it that was different from the
- 31:13Speaker 14: previous time?
- 31:14Speaker 6: Well, the producers of the event made it really easy
- 31:18Speaker 6: for us, and in that... they suggested slash told us
- 31:24Speaker 6: that we were gonna do basically the same songs that
- 31:27Speaker 6: we did last year we played first last year um
- 31:31Speaker 6: so i guess a lot of people missed yeah um
- 31:35Speaker 6: we did we were able to kind of convince them
- 31:38Speaker 6: to let us do a ramon song that i really
- 31:40Speaker 6: wanted to do yeah and other than that uh we
- 31:44Speaker 6: still kind of had at least half of a handle
- 31:47Speaker 6: on the cover songs from the year before, having only
- 31:49Speaker 6: played one of them regularly. That was the Hank Williams song,
- 31:52Speaker 6: Ramblin' Man. We pulled that one out a few times
- 31:55Speaker 6: in the aggregate between those two Westbests. But, yeah, it
- 32:04Speaker 6: was a pretty easy thing for us to be able
- 32:07Speaker 6: to just pull out the ones from.
- 32:09Speaker 16: Come back into it.
- 32:10Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 16: Well, Shadwick's right.
- 32:12Speaker 14: We actually heard quite a few of their songs from
- 32:13Speaker 14: that performance last year. So first off, I'd say go
- 32:16Speaker 14: back and listen to the original West Fest episode from
- 32:18Speaker 14: last year and check out their great performance there. But
- 32:21Speaker 14: since we're playing quite a bit of new music from
- 32:23Speaker 14: this show, from Nelly Pearl, I thought we'd balance things
- 32:25Speaker 14: out a little and play the latest single from Quiet Hollers.
- 32:28Speaker 16: This is called Liar Song, and.
- 32:29Speaker 14: It's actually getting quite a bit of airplay on the
- 32:31Speaker 14: radio station here. So if they're not playing it in
- 32:34Speaker 14: your town, call up and request it at your local
- 32:36Speaker 14: radio station. If, in fact, they still have radio stations.
- 32:40Speaker 14: I mean, with awesome shows like Attack of the Killer Soundtrack,
- 32:43Speaker 14: I don't know why you'd.
- 32:44Speaker 16: Need a radio station.
- 32:45Speaker 14: But assuming you're one of those people who still listens
- 32:47Speaker 14: to one, call up and request Liar Song. And on
- 32:50Speaker 14: that note, you can find both these bands and all
- 32:52Speaker 14: the bands from West Fest online. So go find videos
- 32:55Speaker 14: on YouTube. You can download their songs on iTunes and
- 32:58Speaker 14: Reverb Nation and Bandcamp. I'm sure you'll probably find them
- 33:01Speaker 14: on most of those avenues. So go support all the
- 33:03Speaker 14: bands from West Fest. But right now, we're going to
- 33:05Speaker 14: play that latest single from Quiet Hollers.
- 33:08Speaker 12: This is Liar Song.
- 33:10Speaker 27: I was born a liar Thrown into a fire Raised
- 33:17Speaker 27: in anger like a gun Beat down into the.
- 33:21Speaker 28: Mire When my first steps on crutches I stumble into
- 33:28Speaker 28: their clutches And it never crossed my mind to resist
- 33:33Speaker 28: They told.
- 33:33Speaker 15: Me I was born for.
- 33:36Speaker 21: This Thank you.
- 33:50Speaker 15: Just change the channel for a while.
- 33:53Speaker 26: I'll be asleep here, so.
- 33:57Speaker 13: I do not care to know what's happening outside this room.
- 34:04Speaker 29: You drink your tea and I will sit here stony-eyed.
- 34:10Speaker 26: If we can make it through this one, I think
- 34:15Speaker 26: we'll be alright.
- 34:32Speaker 13: I'm sorry, but it came out all wrong I told
- 34:40Speaker 13: you not to worry And then.
- 34:42Speaker 15: The liar came along.
- 34:59Speaker 26: Party dress on and I'll wear my one good soul
- 35:04Speaker 26: and we don't even have to talk to anyone just
- 35:10Speaker 26: drink their wine and.
- 35:13Speaker 13: Eat their food I was born a liar my friend
- 35:19Speaker 13: is trained in sire couldn't sleep outside romance I never.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Even had a chance.
- 35:38Speaker 15: I tried to say I'm.
- 35:40Speaker 13: Sorry But it came out all wrong I told you
- 35:47Speaker 13: not to worry And then the liar came along I
- 35:59Speaker 13: tried to say I'm sorry I tried to say I'm
- 36:03Speaker 13: sorry I tried to.
- 36:14Speaker 30: Say I'm sorry I tried to say I'm sorry I
- 36:20Speaker 30: tried to say.
- 36:22Speaker 15: I'm sorry I tried to say I'm sorry.
- 36:28Speaker 9: We're going to do another selection from the late and
- 36:33Speaker 9: great Mr. Hank Williams. Hank Williams Sr., Regular Hank, not
- 36:43Speaker 9: bad Hank.
- 36:45Speaker 7: But I like Hank Jr.
- 36:47Speaker 20: Too, so.
- 36:49Speaker 5: It's a long, and.
- 36:52Speaker 7: It's a gone, and it's a lonesome, lonesome blues. I
- 37:10Speaker 7: went down to the river to watch them fish swim by.
- 37:18Speaker 15: But I got.
- 37:19Speaker 7: To the river so lonesome I wanted you to die.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Oh Lord.
- 37:27Speaker 7: And then I jumped in but the goddamn river was dry.
- 37:36Speaker 9: .
- 37:36Speaker 7: .
- 37:43Speaker 31: .
- 37:53Speaker 7: She paid me for my money, then she made me blue.
- 37:57Speaker 9: I'm Miley and Post.
- 38:00Speaker 7: You can lean on, but Miley and Post is done.
- 38:04Speaker 9: Left and gone.
- 38:16Speaker 7: I'm gonna find me a river,
- 38:25Speaker 7: one as cold as ice, like today. And when I
- 38:31Speaker 7: find me a river, Lord, I'm gonna pray the price,
- 38:37Speaker 7: oh Lord.
- 38:39Speaker 9: I'm going down three times, but I'm only coming up twice.
- 38:48Speaker 7: But she's long gone now.
- 39:01Speaker 9: She told me on Sunday, these are checking me out.
- 39:06Speaker 7: Long about Monday, she is nowhere about.
- 39:10Speaker 9: Here it is Tuesday, ain't got no news. I got them.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Long gone and Lord, forgotten blues.
- 39:19Speaker 5: But she's in love, oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 39:22Speaker 16: Oh, now, wow, oh, oh.
- 39:20Speaker 15: .
- 39:23Speaker 7: .
- 39:32Speaker 5: All right.
- 39:39Speaker 14: And that was Oscar and the Picket Line with another
- 39:41Speaker 14: Hank Williams song as featured in Moonrise Kingdom.
- 39:44Speaker 16: Yeah, Ramblin' Man was awesome in general. Thanks. Yeah. Doing
- 39:50Speaker 16: anything with.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Get a gypsy punk kind of adaptation.
- 39:53Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 16: Works for us.
- 39:55Speaker 14: I mean, it's one of those that his stuff, it's
- 39:57Speaker 14: funny how well it translates, no matter how many years later,
- 40:00Speaker 14: the different styles, like Hank, the real Hank, Hank Sr.
- 40:05Speaker 6: The only Hank.
- 40:05Speaker 16: The only Hank I acknowledge, really.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Acceptable to refer to as Hank. Yeah. As far as
- 40:09Speaker 6: I'm concerned.
- 40:10Speaker 2: The other two aren't even named Hank, right? They're not.
- 40:14Speaker 6: There were two other ones?
- 40:15Speaker 14: For marketing purposes, yes, yes, they are.
- 40:17Speaker 2: They're not even named Hank.
- 40:19Speaker 10: Hank.
- 40:20Speaker 6: Three is Sheldon, I think.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking Eugene, but I think it is Sheldon.
- 40:26Speaker 16: No wonder nobody wants to come see.
- 40:28Speaker 2: I saw the show at the Mercury last year. I
- 40:31Speaker 2: enjoyed it. He played for like four and a half
- 40:33Speaker 2: hours or something. It was ridiculous.
- 40:35Speaker 16: I haven't listened to much of Three. I was not
- 40:37Speaker 16: big on Junior.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I like part of his music.
- 40:41Speaker 14: I think he started, even Junior started a little better
- 40:45Speaker 14: and then just bought into the whole.
- 40:48Speaker 16: redneck yeah thing that got on board.
- 40:50Speaker 6: Are you ready for some football yeah.
- 40:52Speaker 16: That's that's where i think i was just like i'm
- 40:55Speaker 16: out now i'm.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Okay i'm not much of a junior fan.
- 40:57Speaker 14: You know i never never want racism thing he's not
- 41:02Speaker 14: a fun guy really but yeah i i feel like
- 41:07Speaker 14: he his really old stuff is closer to his dad
- 41:10Speaker 14: and then like the more He gets the hat and
- 41:12Speaker 14: the beard and the leather.
- 41:14Speaker 6: There were also some pretty tasteless overdubs and videos of
- 41:18Speaker 6: his dad, like archival footage that he would splice into
- 41:22Speaker 6: his live show that he was doing in the 70s.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Just cringeworthy.
- 41:27Speaker 16: And then he did a duet with Nat King Cole. No, wait,
- 41:31Speaker 16: that wasn't him at all. There was a lot of
- 41:33Speaker 16: feeding off their parents for a while there in the
- 41:36Speaker 16: music industry. All right, well, enough of Junior. Let's go
- 41:42Speaker 16: back to Wes.
- 41:42Speaker 14: So was everybody a Wes Anderson fan always as you
- 41:46Speaker 14: came into these?
- 41:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:50Speaker 16: What was your introduction.
- 41:51Speaker 9: To him, I guess?
- 41:52Speaker 14: I think last year I asked everybody what their first
- 41:54Speaker 14: Wes Anderson movie was that they remember.
- 41:56Speaker 6: Royal Tenenbaums for me.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, me too.
- 42:01Speaker 6: And then Life Aquatic, I guess.
- 42:03Speaker 2: My sister was.
- 42:05Speaker 17: Hip for like a year in high school or something
- 42:08Speaker 17: and she watched royal tenenbaums yeah and for like maybe
- 42:12Speaker 17: less uh she uh she got onto that and rushmore
- 42:16Speaker 17: and so i watched those when i was like seventh
- 42:20Speaker 17: grade and had no idea what it was about but
- 42:23Speaker 17: like royal tenenbaums especially was like really aesthetically pleasing like
- 42:28Speaker 17: the you know every all their costumes are interesting.
- 42:31Speaker 10: And uh.
- 42:33Speaker 14: The whole set i think that's really when he sort
- 42:35Speaker 14: of found himself like.
- 42:37Speaker 16: I think because that's the thing i think i saw
- 42:39Speaker 16: bottle rocket like the first real you know full-length feature.
- 42:43Speaker 14: He did yeah but i didn't again at that point
- 42:46Speaker 14: there was no wes anderson so i just sort of
- 42:47Speaker 14: watched it as a movie and it was like oh
- 42:49Speaker 14: that was pretty good and like you know both of
- 42:50Speaker 14: those guys were still kind of new actors and like
- 42:53Speaker 14: i just sort of entered in as he did and
- 42:55Speaker 14: like it wasn't until like i think i missed rushmore
- 42:58Speaker 14: at the time too so it was like I remember
- 43:00Speaker 14: seeing Royal Tenenbaums and going, okay, this is sort of
- 43:03Speaker 14: its own thing.
- 43:04Speaker 16: And I think from.
- 43:05Speaker 14: That point on, like, everything sort of just gelled into
- 43:08Speaker 14: this Wes Anderson thing.
- 43:10Speaker 16: Like, now they all kind of hit.
- 43:12Speaker 14: But I think he's almost getting a little better about
- 43:15Speaker 14: turning into it. So I think the Grand Budapest Hotel
- 43:18Speaker 14: is sort of like the first time he's broken out
- 43:21Speaker 14: of that a little bit.
- 43:22Speaker 16: Like, he still has the aesthetic. He still has the quirkiness.
- 43:25Speaker 16: But I think he's sort of honing in on the
- 43:27Speaker 16: characters a little better now.
- 43:28Speaker 21: So.
- 43:29Speaker 14: I think he's still kind of growing as an artist.
- 43:32Speaker 14: But yeah, he found his stride, I think, from Royal
- 43:35Speaker 14: Tenenbaums on.
- 43:36Speaker 6: I think what he's going to do next is he's
- 43:38Speaker 6: going to try and do a movie that is not
- 43:40Speaker 6: about moneyed white people and their problems. Or he's going
- 43:45Speaker 6: to step out of that rich white people perspective zone.
- 43:49Speaker 16: He almost did with Wilderness Animals.
- 43:53Speaker 14: That was the most, I guess, which I thought was
- 43:55Speaker 14: kind of amazing for the kind of filmmaker he was
- 43:58Speaker 14: to like, switch up and do an entirely different medium
- 44:02Speaker 14: and do like a totally different style and yet still
- 44:04Speaker 14: his own weird quirky thing.
- 44:06Speaker 16: So yeah, I give him credit for being pretty adventurous.
- 44:09Speaker 14: It'd be nice to see him do something really hard
- 44:13Speaker 14: left turn.
- 44:14Speaker 16: Just go do an action movie or something. Which there's
- 44:17Speaker 16: a little element of that in Grand Budapest.
- 44:19Speaker 6: I mean, he can do that.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Give Bruce Willis on the cast.
- 44:24Speaker 16: Well, he's already done that.
- 44:25Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 44:27Speaker 16: So yeah, he's already friends with Bruce. Yeah, he can
- 44:30Speaker 16: do this. He can do this.
- 44:32Speaker 6: I did see Moonrise Kingdom. I've cried several times.
- 44:36Speaker 16: Again, it's so well put together.
- 44:38Speaker 6: If that makes a fan, then I'm... It's so well orchestrated.
- 44:41Speaker 16: Like all of his stuff. Just visually and musically. Did
- 44:46Speaker 16: you notice coming in?
- 44:47Speaker 14: Because it's funny, I don't think I paid as much
- 44:49Speaker 14: attention to the music until she put this festival together
- 44:53Speaker 14: last year.
- 44:53Speaker 2: And I went, Oh, yeah.
- 44:55Speaker 14: He's so obviously catering everything to music.
- 44:59Speaker 2: So, I don't know.
- 44:59Speaker 14: Do you remember noticing that as you watched him before
- 45:02Speaker 14: this event happened?
- 45:04Speaker 6: Yes, but only in that a lot of his imagery
- 45:08Speaker 6: and costumes and sort of light filters are very evocative
- 45:13Speaker 6: of the 1970s aesthetic that we mentioned earlier. And those songs,
- 45:19Speaker 6: a lot of them being from that era, just lend
- 45:21Speaker 6: themselves to that.
- 45:22Speaker 16: That's definitely his.
- 45:24Speaker 6: favorite area to pull from.
- 45:27Speaker 17: I was kind of surprised by a lot of his
- 45:30Speaker 17: song choice. Actually, when I was looking at the list,
- 45:33Speaker 17: I expected it to be more in left field and
- 45:38Speaker 17: was curious how I didn't notice the Beach Boys song,
- 45:41Speaker 17: I Get Around, what movie that popped up in.

- 46:27Speaker 5: I get around.
- 46:28Speaker 21: I get around. I get around.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Get around, around, around, I get around.

- 50:36Speaker 5: Why do we have to carry on?
- 50:39Speaker 15: Always singing the same old song.
- 50:44Speaker 13: The same old song. The same old song.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Come on now. Out in the light of the closing.
- 51:25Speaker 13: Of dawn Never take your chances Take your pick.
- 51:36Speaker 15: It makes me sick.
- 51:39Speaker 13: Seeking new advances. Seeking new advances.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Why do we have.
- 51:48Speaker 13: To carry on? Always singing the same old song.
- 51:54Speaker 15: Same old song.
- 51:56Speaker 21: Same old song.
- 52:11Speaker 5: Thank you guys very much!
- 52:13Speaker 21: Fuck yeah!
- 52:16Speaker 3: He had made a request for his usual escort, the
- 52:19Speaker 3: one from his days on the circuit, to meet him
- 52:21Speaker 3: at the pier by way of the Green Line bus.
- 52:25Speaker 3: As always, she was late.
- 52:44Speaker 32: I've been out walking I don't do too much talking
- 52:52Speaker 32: these days These days These days I seem to think
- 53:04Speaker 32: a lot Of all the things that I forgot.
- 53:08Speaker 5: To do.
- 53:11Speaker 21: And all.
- 53:14Speaker 8: The times I had The.
- 53:22Speaker 32: Chance to.
- 53:26Speaker 5: I've stopped my rambling.
- 53:38Speaker 8: I won't do too much gambling.
- 53:41Speaker 5: These days These days.
- 53:50Speaker 32: These days I seem.
- 53:52Speaker 8: To think a lot of all the changes came.
- 53:56Speaker 15: About my way.
- 54:02Speaker 8: And I wonder if I'll see another high. I don't
- 54:27Speaker 8: think I'll risk another these days These days.
- 54:39Speaker 20: And if I seem to be afraid to live the
- 54:43Speaker 20: life that I have made it so, it's just that
- 54:54Speaker 20: I've been losing.
- 54:59Speaker 15: So long.
- 55:10Speaker 8: I've stopped my dreaming. I won't do too much.
- 55:18Speaker 6: Dreaming these days.
- 55:22Speaker 15: These days.
- 55:28Speaker 8: These days I sit on cornerstones and count the times
- 55:32Speaker 8: in quarter tones to tell. Please don't confront.
- 55:41Speaker 5: Me with my failures.
- 55:49Speaker 32: I have not forgotten.
- 56:01Speaker 26: Them.
- 56:01Speaker 14: These Days by Nellie Pearl, originally featured in the Royal Tenenbaums.
- 56:07Speaker 14: All right, I do want to say a big thank
- 56:08Speaker 14: you to Heather, the creator and organizer of West Fest,
- 56:11Speaker 14: for once again asking us to be part of the
- 56:12Speaker 14: show this year. It was a great evening, and we
- 56:15Speaker 14: were glad to be involved. Again, West Fest is a
- 56:17Speaker 14: benefit to support and raise awareness for the Fair Event
- 56:20Speaker 14: Vendors Alliance. To find out more about what they do,
- 56:22Speaker 14: go to fairvendors.org.
- 56:40Speaker 6: This is Zach and Shane from Howmouth, and you're listening
- 56:41Speaker 6: to Movie Meltdown.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Movie Meltdown.
- 56:45Speaker 6: Shane's got a really good movie announcer voice.
- 56:47Speaker 15: Welcome to Movie Meltdown, in a world of total darkness. Hey,
- 56:57Speaker 15: you guys, this is a.
- 57:00Speaker 21: King song.
- 57:06Speaker 5: Hey, you guys, this is a King song.
- 57:09Speaker 31: This time tomorrow, where will we be?
- 57:17Speaker 29: On a spaceship somewhere, sailing across an empty sea.
- 57:28Speaker 31: This time tomorrow, where will we go?
- 57:35Speaker 15: Will we still be here?
- 57:38Speaker 29: Watching an in-flight movie show.
- 57:42Speaker 23: I leave the sun behind me. And I watch the
- 57:50Speaker 23: clouds as they sadly pass me by.
- 57:55Speaker 15: Seven miles below me.
- 57:57Speaker 29: I can see the world and it ain't so big out.
- 58:14Speaker 29: I don't know where I'm going, I don't want to.
- 58:19Speaker 5: See me I see the world in a lonely, looking on.
- 59:00Speaker 33: And the worst about us, they sadly pass me by.
- 59:07Speaker 33: And the perpetual motion and the.
- 59:11Speaker 34: World below doesn't matter much to me.
- 59:18Speaker 5: There's time tomorrow where.
- 59:23Speaker 7: We will be on a spaceship somewhere sailing.
- 59:29Speaker 30: Across This town tomorrow What will we be?
- 59:43Speaker 34: This town tomorrow What will we see? This town tomorrow
- 59:53Speaker 34: This town.
- 59:56Speaker 15: Tomorrow Thank you guys so much!
- 1:00:08Speaker 14: And that was This Time Tomorrow, as mentioned at Kink's song,
- 1:00:11Speaker 14: originally from the Darjeeling Limited soundtrack. I had to go
- 1:00:14Speaker 14: back and look at some of them. I was like,
- 1:00:16Speaker 14: I don't know that I remember that one. And then
- 1:00:18Speaker 14: I'm like, where was Jumpin' Jack Flash? And a lot
- 1:00:20Speaker 14: of these are.
- 1:00:21Speaker 16: Like, I'm trying to pinpoint.
- 1:00:22Speaker 14: Because then he got really specific as he gets to aquatic.
- 1:00:26Speaker 14: Everything is tailored to a very specific thing. He kind
- 1:00:30Speaker 14: of did that with Moonrise Kingdom again. He's working in
- 1:00:33Speaker 14: that traditional music.
- 1:00:34Speaker 17: It seems like he likes to do that with the
- 1:00:37Speaker 17: costumes and the sets and everything. I think in my
- 1:00:42Speaker 17: research for the festival, I read something about an article
- 1:00:46Speaker 17: by one of the girls that helped design all the costumes,
- 1:00:50Speaker 17: and he was like, I want you to make everything.
- 1:00:54Speaker 17: He's like, don't go buy anything. Make it all yourself.
- 1:00:58Speaker 14: Yeah, especially this last movie, like, Because he just creates
- 1:01:02Speaker 14: his own world. Like, the fact that it exists in
- 1:01:05Speaker 14: its own, like, their own countries and their own, like,
- 1:01:09Speaker 14: war going on.
- 1:01:10Speaker 16: And, like, it's, I think you would have to just
- 1:01:12Speaker 16: start from scratch to be that, you know.
- 1:01:14Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:01:15Speaker 16: Coming up with everything out of nothing there. What was
- 1:01:18Speaker 16: the last movie that he made? The Grand Budapest Hotel.
- 1:01:21Speaker 12: That was the last one?
- 1:01:22Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: Because I remember, I think that that came out the
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: weekend of the first West Fest.
- 1:01:27Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:01:28Speaker 14: Yeah, I think it just came out, but nobody even
- 1:01:30Speaker 14: showed up in costume because they hadn't seen it yet.
- 1:01:33Speaker 16: Nobody was prepared for it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 14: Where it was funny, that was just between these two years.
- 1:01:37Speaker 14: I think that's a big difference now is watching how
- 1:01:40Speaker 14: many versions of the girlfriend, like the one with the birthmark.
- 1:01:45Speaker 16: There were so many of them.
- 1:01:46Speaker 14: In one year's time, last year it was nothing but
- 1:01:49Speaker 14: Gwyneth Paltrow. You saw a lot of Owen Wilson and
- 1:01:53Speaker 14: Luke Wilson. Yeah, you saw a lot of Luke Wilson
- 1:01:54Speaker 14: last time.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: A friend of mine's mom showed up in a costume
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: that I later found out was like a hippie kind
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: of new agey mom.
- 1:02:03Speaker 20: Nice.
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: Which I totally did not pick up on at first
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: because she is in fact a kind of hippie new
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: agey mom.
- 1:02:10Speaker 16: So she just came as herself. Which I guess works
- 1:02:13Speaker 16: for Wes Anderson.
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: A lot of stuff went over my head.
- 1:02:18Speaker 14: But yeah, it's funny that I guess that's an aspect
- 1:02:20Speaker 14: to it now, that as his movies continue to grow,
- 1:02:23Speaker 14: there will be all these new weird costumes and.
- 1:02:25Speaker 16: Song choices and all that stuff that comes along.
- 1:02:27Speaker 14: But that one kind of took over this year, the
- 1:02:31Speaker 14: girlfriend with the birthmark. There were like 12 or 13
- 1:02:34Speaker 14: of those wandering around that night for such a new
- 1:02:37Speaker 14: movie entry. That was kind of cool to see people
- 1:02:41Speaker 14: latch onto that one. As far as other songs, aside
- 1:02:44Speaker 14: from your bands, did you get a chance to see
- 1:02:47Speaker 14: anybody else? And were there other songs, specific performances you liked.
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: Throughout the night? I showed up late again to that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: I have a problem with tardiness that I'm okay with
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: talking about. I do have a great excuse, though. My
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: wife is about nine months pregnant right now.
- 1:03:05Speaker 16: That's a pretty good excuse. You have to bring the
- 1:03:08Speaker 16: baby as proof, though.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: I do anything.
- 1:03:09Speaker 23: I do.
- 1:03:10Speaker 16: You have to come in holding the baby as you're
- 1:03:12Speaker 16: like hall pass.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: I will say, though, that Nellie Pearl's performance was the
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: most talked about easily of the evening.
- 1:03:21Speaker 16: They did kind of raise the bar a little bit.
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: I really appreciated Oscar and the picket lines on stage
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: banter that sort of blurred the line between stage performance
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: and perhaps while you were there.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 1:03:40Speaker 14: It was sort of, banter is a good thing, because
- 1:03:43Speaker 14: I was like, I'm not sure if he was like,
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: he wasn't really doing jokes as much.
- 1:03:46Speaker 16: He was just sort of buffering the setup from one
- 1:03:49Speaker 16: band to the next.
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: With a kind of monotone.
- 1:03:52Speaker 16: Yeah, well, Wes Anderson-y. But yeah, it kind of was
- 1:03:56Speaker 16: fun to mix in, in between the songs.
- 1:03:59Speaker 9: All right. Christo. Christo only wears underwear made of mature... inorganic,
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: free-range platypus hide. Well, I'll tell you what. In my underwear,
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: I've gotten a lot of platypus in my time, so
- 1:04:24Speaker 9: I'm not impressed.
- 1:04:25Speaker 17: They ask us for information to do that, for him
- 1:04:28Speaker 17: to make jokes. We all came up with a bunch
- 1:04:31Speaker 17: of really weird shit. He took the most, I don't
- 1:04:34Speaker 17: know if it was him or Heather or who did
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: it exactly, who made the note cards, but like, I.
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: Think he did.
- 1:04:40Speaker 17: I saw him working on it on that stage. All
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: he said for me was that I was born in
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: a taxi cab in San Antonio. And I was like,
- 1:04:47Speaker 17: that was like, the first of all, that's not even true.
- 1:04:50Speaker 17: Five that got progressively weirder and weirder.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: Is that true? Were you born in a taxi cab?
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: No, not at all. That's why it wasn't funny.
- 1:04:58Speaker 17: Because it was like, that was like, is he born
- 1:05:01Speaker 17: in a taxi cab? And then the next sentence was
- 1:05:03Speaker 17: some real weird shit. They're like, this is all this
- 1:05:06Speaker 17: made up. And no, he didn't read the.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Rest of it.
- 1:05:08Speaker 17: So people were like, were you actually born in a
- 1:05:10Speaker 17: taxi cab in San Antonio?
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: Yeah. Like I just asked you.
- 1:05:15Speaker 16: It's fact now.
- 1:05:16Speaker 17: I got that from Tom Waits anyway. Tom Waits said
- 1:05:19Speaker 17: that on Letterman in the 80s. I was born in
- 1:05:22Speaker 17: a taxicab in.
- 1:05:23Speaker 16: Terre Haute, Indiana. I was born in a taxicab in Indiana.
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: Always some obscure Midwestern.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Terre Haute, Indiana. I was like, no, he was not.
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: They pulled our description from our Twitter account. That's trouble already.
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: We are Quiet Hollers, our occult gang band. These are
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: separated by slashes, and Oscar and I had a brief
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: discussion before he was to read these note cards where
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: he was clarifying what I meant by that. And I
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: was trying to explain that you say it like it's
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: one word, like a cult gang band. And of course,
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: so he looks at me real weird and he goes,
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: cult gang band? I said cult gang band. Of course
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: we get on stage and Oscar says, quiet hollers are
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: a cult.
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: Bang!
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: Bang!
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: He showed up with bandanas.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: No, you couldn't have put a larger pause in between
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: those words. And just to clarify, we are not any
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: kind of religious cult or violent street gang.
- 1:06:22Speaker 16: I assumed you were like Bloods or Crips or something.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I thought you were.
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: I prefer not to take sides in that particular conflict.
- 1:06:28Speaker 14: I figured half the band would have one bandana, half
- 1:06:30Speaker 14: the other. And then by the end of the set,
- 1:06:31Speaker 14: you'd have to fight it out.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06:33Speaker 16: Did not happen that night.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: We are a Germantown-based band. And the mustache street wars
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: of 2006 still rage on to this day.
- 1:06:42Speaker 16: It's a scary neighborhood. You don't want to mess around
- 1:06:44Speaker 16: in Germantown.
- 1:06:46Speaker 17: To answer that original question, I think I saw all
- 1:06:50Speaker 17: the acts. I liked Apple Latin.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: They were good. I heard that they didn't even really practice.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: Those guys don't have to. I'd seen them before.
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: They were pretty impressive.
- 1:07:03Speaker 17: They're pretty talented dudes. I had actually seen Jose. That
- 1:07:07Speaker 17: was the first time I'd seen Appalachian. I saw Jose,
- 1:07:09Speaker 17: their bass player, with a four-piece instrumental jazz, like a hardcore,
- 1:07:15Speaker 17: cool jazz.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Group out of the Faulkner Gallery.
- 1:07:18Speaker 17: And that kid was throwing down hard on that upright bass.
- 1:07:21Speaker 17: I'd never seen anybody play like that around here. And
- 1:07:26Speaker 17: so when I found out he was an Appalachian, I
- 1:07:28Speaker 17: thought that was quite a treat. And it makes sense
- 1:07:32Speaker 17: that they didn't have to practice.
- 1:07:33Speaker 14: I like what they were doing too though because especially
- 1:07:36Speaker 14: going into this it's like you kind of end up
- 1:07:38Speaker 14: pulling from the same group of songs so it's like
- 1:07:40Speaker 14: especially if you do two three if you keep doing
- 1:07:42Speaker 14: different years you're like how are we going to do
- 1:07:44Speaker 14: it that isn't like what they did last year but
- 1:07:46Speaker 14: like their style is so different and so original that
- 1:07:49Speaker 14: like listening to them do me and Julio down by
- 1:07:51Speaker 14: the schoolyard was like awesome like it adds this whole
- 1:07:54Speaker 14: new spin on it that like it gives it a
- 1:07:57Speaker 14: very different beat a very different style that I I
- 1:08:00Speaker 14: really like that one and There's a couple other ones
- 1:08:02Speaker 14: they did that were really good.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: The Latin music to 1970s kind of classic rock songs.
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: For me, the first time that I'd kind of seen
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: or heard that particular pairing of different styles was the
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: Gypsy Kings cover of Hotel California that was used in
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: the Coen Brothers movie, The Big Lebowski.
- 1:08:23Speaker 16: Other filmmakers. There were some echoes of that for me.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: But of course there are, you know. not indistinguishable similarities
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: between those two filmmaking styles.
- 1:08:32Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:08:32Speaker 14: So I was thinking there another one that has such
- 1:08:34Speaker 14: a attachment to music and finding a way to work
- 1:08:37Speaker 14: it in originally.
- 1:08:39Speaker 16: And it's, yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:08:43Speaker 16: Was there anything else from that night? You guys wanted to.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Uh, great job.
- 1:08:47Speaker 14: Thanks.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: That's killed it. I've never seen y'all perform before. That
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: was the first time.
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: We do it all the time.
- 1:08:54Speaker 16: More than you're comfortable with?
- 1:08:56Speaker 19: No.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: All the time. No, I'd seen you guys perform before.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I saw you at the hoot. At a spring hoot,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I think. A hoot nanny. Or maybe a fall harvest
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: hoot or something like that. That's... It might have been like.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: You're saying the word hootenanny. It's ringing a bell in
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: my head.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: It's the mighty kindness thing they do down on the waterfront. Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I think that was the first time I met you.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I think we met there. That was a spring one.
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: I want to say 2000... Spring 2014? It might have been.
- 1:09:27Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: It was about a year ago.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I think Blunt and Honey played that. I think that's
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: why I was there. That's right. I remember.
- 1:09:35Speaker 14: Well, we covered a little of your background, Chadwick. Do
- 1:09:37Speaker 14: you want to give people a little like how the
- 1:09:40Speaker 14: band came to be?
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: Oh, well, do I?
- 1:09:45Speaker 16: It sounds like trouble. Do I?
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: I am so prepared. No, I put out, I started, well,
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: I played in punk bands from the time that I
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: was 16 or 17 and dropped out of high school
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: to do that. And then I did that for like
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: a while.
- 1:10:01Speaker 16: I think I remember seeing you back in the day.
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: And straight-laced.
- 1:10:04Speaker 21: True.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: I got a straight-laced shout-out from the guy on stage.
- 1:10:08Speaker 16: I know I've been to a couple of those.
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: I kind of covered my face.
- 1:10:13Speaker 16: I think you know Phillip.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: Yeah, of course.
- 1:10:17Speaker 14: I've roped him into the show a few times. He's
- 1:10:18Speaker 14: a semi-regular, but I've been friends with Phillip forever. I
- 1:10:21Speaker 14: used to go see his bands. I remember you from
- 1:10:24Speaker 14: different stuff, but now it took a very different turn
- 1:10:27Speaker 14: as I came to know the Quiet Hollow.
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: I said I got really into that punk. touring punk
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: band touring drinking mischief kind of life and that you
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: know very quickly took its toll like it does that
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: will burn it so i got i got real real
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: depressed and decided i was going to make this like
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: dark kind of alt country solo record and so i
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: did that with like very little preparation and forethought and
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: it ended up being a thing that that warranted people
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: wanting to see it at least enough for me to
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: have a band.
- 1:11:02Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: And so I started kind of picking up guys from,
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: from that scene and be like, Hey, well, do you
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: want to play in this weird, like depressing Americana band
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: with me?
- 1:11:10Speaker 16: And they're like, yeah, I guess so.
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: So we, you know, gradually started picking up. Now we're
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: a five piece band now, you know, it's, it's crowded
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: in the van. But, yeah, it just sort of, you know,
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: it was just Shadwick Wilde, and then it was Shadwick
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: Wilde and the Quiet Hollers, which was this massively too
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: long kind of panoply of names.
- 1:11:30Speaker 16: Depends on how much of the poster you want to cover.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: And so now it's just Quiet Hollers. And I just
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: want to go on the record and officially say there
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: is no the.
- 1:11:39Speaker 14: I was just going to ask. I was like, did
- 1:11:40Speaker 14: you have to pin that down? Because it becomes a
- 1:11:42Speaker 14: thing with that. It's in our bio now that there's
- 1:11:45Speaker 14: no the. that was i had to take a stance
- 1:11:49Speaker 14: my favorite one was actually with the i love the
- 1:11:51Speaker 14: rachels but like the fact that they would just go
- 1:11:53Speaker 14: back and forth some albums they would put out with
- 1:11:55Speaker 14: the sometimes they wouldn't i was like that's kind of amazing.
- 1:11:59Speaker 16: That they're like we don't care like we'll use it
- 1:12:01Speaker 16: we won't what do we.
- 1:12:02Speaker 17: Care buck uh buck ellens did that with the buckaroos
- 1:12:05Speaker 17: too i spelled it b-u-c-k-e and b-u-c-k-a on different records too.
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: R-e-w-r-double-o i don't know.
- 1:12:18Speaker 14: Well, I guess to round it out more or less,
- 1:12:21Speaker 14: what was, of your own sets, what was like your
- 1:12:23Speaker 14: favorite to play?
- 1:12:25Speaker 16: If we haven't already mentioned it.
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: We did get to play a couple of our own songs.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: But I will say the most fun was that Ramone
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: song that I mentioned earlier, Judy is a Punk. Because
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: we don't ever get to play like that fast power
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: chord kind of silly stuff.
- 1:12:41Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: And that was, for me, immensely enjoyable on a visceral level.
- 1:12:45Speaker 24: Y'all heard about Judy? Check in for.
- 1:13:06Speaker 18: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.
- 1:13:17Speaker 15: 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29,
- 1:13:20Speaker 15: .
- 1:13:24Speaker 13: .
- 1:13:26Speaker 21: .
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. Dirty in the mud, dirty in the wood,
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: we've got to get out of here, we've got to
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: get out of here. And oh, I don't know why, oh,
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: I don't know why, but it's still alive.
- 1:14:05Speaker 18: Oh yeah, it's still alive, oh yeah, it's still alive,
- 1:14:13Speaker 18: oh yeah, it's.
- 1:14:15Speaker 17: Still alive, oh yeah.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: I would have to say needle in the hay was
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: my personal favorite. We enjoyed all of them. We really did.
- 1:14:34Speaker 17: Um, but that was, that was the most fun. We, uh,
- 1:14:38Speaker 17: our drummer plays in the local villains and like, they're
- 1:14:41Speaker 17: pretty hard rock band. And I'm always like, why don't you, uh,
- 1:14:45Speaker 17: you know, like use these different sticks or like, you
- 1:14:48Speaker 17: don't have to use those brushes.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Like, why don't you do this? And he's like, I
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: don't play the drums that hard in this band. It
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: was like, I'll get you to play the drums that
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: hard in this band. I have the exact opposite problem.
- 1:14:57Speaker 6: Yeah? Like, I want to get Nick to use brushes,
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: and he always wants.
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: To beat the crap out of me.
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: Maybe we should trade.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: Oh, I'm good.
- 1:15:04Speaker 17: I'm good with my drummer.
- 1:15:05Speaker 14: That should be like a theme night, where everybody just
- 1:15:07Speaker 14: sort of swaps out different people and, like, see how
- 1:15:09Speaker 14: it goes.
- 1:15:11Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:15:12Speaker 16: It'd have to be interesting, if nothing else.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: It certainly would.
- 1:15:18Speaker 16: I think so.
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: Oh, drummers are interchangeable, anyway. You don't need a new one,
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: you just order a pizza.
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:24Speaker 14: Bass players you don't even give them a name right
- 1:15:26Speaker 14: they just like show up and if they bring their
- 1:15:28Speaker 14: bass you're like all right stand over.
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: There what do you call a guy that hangs out
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: with musicians bass player it's either a bass player or
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: a drummer whichever person you're trying to insult at the time.
- 1:15:36Speaker 16: I feel like the drummers at least have so much.
- 1:15:38Speaker 14: Equipment you have to acknowledge them but like ben is
- 1:15:41Speaker 14: a bass player like we would always constantly be like
- 1:15:44Speaker 14: yeah the bass players like they always get the the
- 1:15:48Speaker 14: rough end.
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: You know what you call a bass player that just
- 1:15:50Speaker 6: broke up with his girlfriend what homeless.
- 1:15:56Speaker 16: How long can we go with these? Do we have
- 1:15:57Speaker 16: a whole set?
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: Do you know how you can tell if a drum
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: riser is level? The drool comes out of both sides
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: of the drummer's mouth.
- 1:16:06Speaker 16: Nice.
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: Okay, I'm finished. I love my drummer and my bass player.
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: Please don't quit the band, guys.
- 1:16:13Speaker 14: I think once you enter into those roles, you know
- 1:16:16Speaker 14: your role in the band.
- 1:16:17Speaker 16: You have to hold down the fort. You're the rhythm section, dammit.
- 1:16:20Speaker 16: You know how it goes.
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: It is unfair that there aren't as many of those
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: jokes about guitar players.
- 1:16:25Speaker 16: Yeah. I'll tell you what, though.
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: Guitarists really have it the roughest of anybody.
- 1:16:31Speaker 16: They kind of do.
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: When it comes to being the butt of jokes.
- 1:16:34Speaker 16: There's no holding your head high when.
- 1:16:36Speaker 10: You play guitar.
- 1:16:36Speaker 17: The thing is that you don't have to be a guitarist,
- 1:16:38Speaker 17: so that's your own fault.
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: Some people have to.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: Contractually.
- 1:16:43Speaker 16: Born with a keytar in your hand. There's no fighting it, man.
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: People either contractually or spiritually... absolutely have to be keytarists.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: I don't know any keytarists.
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: Not so much in this decade.
- 1:16:58Speaker 17: I do know one keytarist. There was a band called
- 1:17:01Speaker 17: Lotus Blake that played in town.
- 1:17:03Speaker 16: That had a keytarist. I know that name.
- 1:17:06Speaker 17: That guy plays in another band now. He's like a tall,
- 1:17:10Speaker 17: really tall blonde guy.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: I don't think he plays keytar. I think I saw
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: him with another band though.
- 1:17:15Speaker 16: I want to.
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: Say, is that Chase?
- 1:17:18Speaker 16: Chase?
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: He played bass for the band with the name that
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: I can't remember.
- 1:17:24Speaker 17: I don't know what his name is. I remember the
- 1:17:26Speaker 17: first time he introduced himself, he spoke with an Australian
- 1:17:31Speaker 17: accent to me and my friends.
- 1:17:32Speaker 12: That is weird.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: And I totally tried to, like, play it off, and then, like,
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: partway through, forgot or something, and then tried to jump
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: back on it. We're like, no, you're not Australian. He's like,
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: what the hell?
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: I've been living here a long time.
- 1:17:45Speaker 23: Yeah.
- 1:17:46Speaker 16: Sadly, I've heard that story before from another member of
- 1:17:49Speaker 16: the cast. We have a weird town. With multiple people
- 1:17:53Speaker 16: pretending that they're from another country when they aren't.
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: I've done it before.
- 1:17:59Speaker 16: Another planet.
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: My family is Dutch, and I actually did live there
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: for a couple years.
- 1:18:03Speaker 16: I was going to say, where were you born?
- 1:18:05Speaker 21: No.
- 1:18:05Speaker 16: You can at least claim this country.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: But I'm eligible for dual citizenship.
- 1:18:10Speaker 16: You should cash in on that, though. They probably have
- 1:18:12Speaker 16: good health care there.
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: They have, like, really enough people over there.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: They, like, pay you to go to college?
- 1:18:16Speaker 16: Yeah. I saw a hospital.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: In Louisville that has a bank in it. We got
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: that going for us.
- 1:18:23Speaker 23: St.
- 1:18:23Speaker 17: Matthew's Baptist Health or something like that has Republic Bank
- 1:18:27Speaker 17: on the sign, too.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I was like, a hospital has a bank inside.
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: I think that hospital also has a McDonald's in it.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: The Children's Hospital in Indianapolis has a McDonald's.
- 1:18:36Speaker 14: The Co-Serve in here did, yeah. Unless they came to
- 1:18:39Speaker 14: their senses and took it out.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: That is just some straight fucked up shit. That's what
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: that is.
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: Business there.
- 1:18:44Speaker 16: You're already dying, kid. Here, have some french fries.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: That's weird.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: Have a little diabetes. to go with your brain cancer.
- 1:18:52Speaker 16: Can we put a milkshake in your drip? I think
- 1:18:55Speaker 16: that's what you're missing here. Well, if nothing else.
- 1:19:01Speaker 16: If nothing else, where can people find both of these bands?
- 1:19:04Speaker 16: What's the best place to look for you? I'm assuming
- 1:19:07Speaker 16: on the internets.
- 1:19:09Speaker 6: We have a new video that you should go check out.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: It's on YouTube. It's called Liar Song. So search Quiet
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: Hollies Liar Song on YouTube.
- 1:19:17Speaker 12: Any website?
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: What else besides that?
- 1:19:22Speaker 17: Catch us on our website, nellypearlmusic.com. Facebook, all that wonderful
- 1:19:27Speaker 17: social media.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Zoosk, eHarmony.
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: You guys aren't Zoosk?
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we should have a Zoosk profile.
- 1:19:34Speaker 16: I'm sticking with MySpace. It's coming back, guys.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: Only one of our members is single, but I do
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: catch him on Tinder in every town that we go to.
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: He's like, I'm trying to get people to come to
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: the show, man.
- 1:19:44Speaker 16: Just swipe past him.
- 1:19:45Speaker 12: It's okay. That's funny.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: He used to do that. He used to just call
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: any girl he knew.
- 1:19:54Speaker 17: What are you doing, brother?
- 1:19:57Speaker 16: I've given up at this point.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Get girls to see your band and get dudes to
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: come see your band. That's what my dad always told me.
- 1:20:05Speaker 16: Band strategy.
- 1:20:06Speaker 12: I like this.
- 1:20:07Speaker 16: This is passing along wisdom to the rest of the
- 1:20:09Speaker 16: bands out there.
- 1:20:11Speaker 17: All right.
- 1:20:12Speaker 16: Thank you for both of you for being here.
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: My pleasure. Thank you for having me.
- 1:20:18Speaker 21: All right.
- 1:20:19Speaker 14: Well, you heard Jonathan mention it once again there. We've
- 1:20:21Speaker 14: been hearing about Needle in the Hay all night, so
- 1:20:23Speaker 14: I figured that's the way we'll go out. We'll go
- 1:20:25Speaker 14: out with Needle in the Hay. Again, I would like
- 1:20:27Speaker 14: to thank both Jonathan and Shadwick for sitting in with
- 1:20:30Speaker 14: us on this episode. And this seems like as good
- 1:20:32Speaker 14: a time as any to remind you.
- 1:20:33Speaker 16: Get a Life will provide the soundtrack.
- 1:20:40Speaker 21: Get a Life.
- 1:20:52Speaker 10: His hand on your arm, the haystack charmed around your neck.
- 1:20:58Speaker 10: Strong and thin, calling some friends, trying to cash some check.
- 1:21:04Speaker 10: He's acting dumb, it's what you've.
- 1:21:07Speaker 15: Come to expect.
- 1:21:13Speaker 21: Needle in.
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: The hay Needle in the hay Needle in the hay
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: Needle in the hay.
- 1:21:41Speaker 19: He's wearing your clothes Head down to toes A reaction
- 1:21:46Speaker 19: to you You say you know what he did You
- 1:21:50Speaker 19: idiot kid You don't have a clue Sometimes they just
- 1:21:56Speaker 19: Get caught in the eye You're pulling them through.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: Middle in the head.
- 1:22:06Speaker 21: Middle in the head.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: Middle in the head.
- 1:22:11Speaker 21: Middle in the head.
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: Now on the.
- 1:22:56Speaker 15: Bus, merely touching this dirty latrine.
- 1:23:01Speaker 19: Falling out, six and pal, a dead sweat in my team.
- 1:23:06Speaker 19: Gonna walk, walk, walk, four more blocks, plus the one
- 1:23:12Speaker 19: at my brain.
- 1:23:13Speaker 9: Down, downstairs.
- 1:23:15Speaker 19: To the man who's gonna make it all okay I
- 1:23:19Speaker 19: can't be myself, I can't be myself And.
- 1:23:23Speaker 11: I don't wanna talk, I'm taking the cure So I
- 1:23:27Speaker 11: can be quiet whenever I want So.
- 1:23:31Speaker 17: Leave me alone, you ought.
- 1:23:33Speaker 13: To be proud I'm getting control.
- 1:25:44Speaker 21: Come on!
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: Why is nobody helping that man? Like, how come no
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: one's helping him?
