- 0:57Speaker 2: Welcome back. It's Radio Night Live with a new week.
- 1:01Speaker 2: And Linda Perillo is here. Kevin McCullough. It's Tuesday night.
- 1:04Speaker 2: We talk travel and other various things. The problem for
- 1:09Speaker 2: me on Tuesdays and Fridays is that my co-hosts, Christine
- 1:14Speaker 2: Nicholas and Linda Perillo, are maybe two of the most
- 1:17Speaker 2: ardent Yankees fans that live. So when we get into
- 1:23Speaker 2: October and the Yanks don't do well, We're doing a
- 1:28Speaker 2: show the next day. It is a mess. So let's
- 1:32Speaker 2: let's hear it, Linda. I know you got a lot
- 1:34Speaker 2: to unload today about the Yankees.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Well, you know, guess what?
- 1:38Speaker 4: I got a gig writing for the Daily News monthly column. Right.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Um and they're op-eds so I decided to start with
- 1:50Speaker 4: baseball and I started writing a column about the Yankees
- 1:53Speaker 4: and how even though I am the most probably die-hard
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yankee fan you'll ever meet in your life the Yankees
- 1:59Speaker 4: no matter what they do they have not won a
- 2:02Speaker 4: world series since 2009 and everyone is still like oh
- 2:07Speaker 4: my god the Yankees But even these players.
- 2:11Speaker 3: That get traded to the Yankees are like, oh, my God,
- 2:14Speaker 3: I made it. You haven't won a World Series since 2009, okay?
- 2:20Speaker 3: But we still think that they are the most amazing, classiest, like.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Just incredibly gifted.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Outfit in baseball.
- 2:29Speaker 4: But if anybody watched them play last night in the
- 2:33Speaker 4: fourth or fifth inning.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You would be embarrassed.
- 2:36Speaker 4: And quite frankly, I'm very angry at the Yankees because...
- 2:42Speaker 4: We should be doing way better than what we're doing.
- 2:45Speaker 4: The mistakes are just beyond.
- 2:49Speaker 3: They can't hit.
- 2:49Speaker 4: The only person that can hit on that team right
- 2:51Speaker 4: now is Ben Rice. That's it. He's the only guy
- 2:56Speaker 4: on that bench that has been producing runs.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Period.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Two home runs last night, two home runs the Monday night,
- 3:04Speaker 4: I think it was.
- 3:05Speaker 3: That was it. Oh, and guess what? We don't have
- 3:06Speaker 3: Aaron Judge. Well, guess who tanks every postseason anyway? Doesn't matter.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And then you've got people like John Carlos Stanton.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Aaron Boone brings out John Carlos Stanton in the ninth inning.
- 3:20Speaker 4: This guy hasn't played a game since April 26th, but
- 3:26Speaker 4: you put him in the most pinch clutch position.
- 3:30Speaker 3: They were down by one run and.
- 3:33Speaker 4: He put, it's like, it's like going into the crowd
- 3:36Speaker 4: saying anybody, anybody, anybody like.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Jackie Mason will go. Anybody, anybody want to play? You
- 3:41Speaker 3: want to play? Or where's Michael Phelps? Phelps, you're a
- 3:45Speaker 3: good athlete. Like here, I'm going to give you a bat.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Like what's really funny. And I just, for those of
- 3:50Speaker 2: you that listen every night, you know, you know what
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm going to say here. What's really funny is that
- 3:55Speaker 2: on Friday night, Christine and I had Marty Appel, who's
- 3:59Speaker 2: the Yankees historian. He's been with them forever. And he's doing,
- 4:02Speaker 2: you know, all the inside of all the history and
- 4:06Speaker 2: everything else. And we had Tracy Neporin, who's about the
- 4:08Speaker 2: same equivalent for the Mets. And Marty was feeling pretty
- 4:13Speaker 2: good about going into this series. Now, that was Friday
- 4:16Speaker 2: before these two games had been played. Yeah, no. But...
- 4:22Speaker 2: You know, Tracy's not overly impressed with the Yankees anyway
- 4:25Speaker 2: because he's a Mets fan. But it's like Friday night,
- 4:28Speaker 2: everybody's here on this show, on this show going, yeah, yeah, Yankees,
- 4:31Speaker 2: we're going to get it done, get it done. Here
- 4:33Speaker 2: we open up Tuesday. And they're one game from elimination.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I feel like a Mets fan today.
- 4:39Speaker 3: You know what it is?
- 4:40Speaker 4: There's a compadre with me today and the Mets fans
- 4:43Speaker 4: because I feel them.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I feel their pain. I feel their agony. Only this.
- 4:49Speaker 3: These are the Yankees.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I mean, these are the guys that when I was
- 4:53Speaker 4: growing up in the 70s watching baseball, they just pulled
- 4:59Speaker 4: out everything and had heart.
- 5:03Speaker 3: They would never be defeated. Today, it's like, oh, okay.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. You don't follow baseball.
- 5:08Speaker 4: The other night, Austin Wells, the guy is as slow
- 5:13Speaker 4: as somebody on crutches. He whips one, the only hit. Rasmussen,
- 5:20Speaker 4: God bless that guy. See, we need pitching like that.
- 5:23Speaker 4: We don't have an ace like that, like Drew Rasmussen
- 5:27Speaker 4: from the Rays. That guy had a no-hitter postseason. Going
- 5:31Speaker 4: into the eighth inning, right? So Austin Wells.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Gets up to bat, slams a double. We've got two outs?
- 5:40Speaker 2: No.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Maybe I forget it was two outs. But anyway, this
- 5:43Speaker 4: was the chance for the Yankees to score, okay? Because
- 5:46Speaker 4: the go-ahead run was up next. He hits a double,
- 5:51Speaker 4: absolute double, tries to turn it into a triple.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Dude, what was going through your mind? Stay conservative.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Wasn't the third base coach telling him to go, though?
- 6:04Speaker 4: No, I don't think so. They said that he had
- 6:06Speaker 4: his head down. He wasn't really paying attention. You know,
- 6:09Speaker 4: it's a very narcissistic, egotistical move, Austin Wells.
- 6:14Speaker 3: You blew it.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And who knows what would have happened after. Would we
- 6:18Speaker 4: have scored the run? But the point is.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I would say he only blew it if he overruled
- 6:23Speaker 2: the coaches. I can't believe the coach was looking down.
- 6:26Speaker 2: When the ball's in play, you're either saying come on
- 6:29Speaker 2: or you're saying hold.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I can't imagine that that third base coach was telling
- 6:34Speaker 4: him to go because that would have really. I mean,
- 6:36Speaker 4: we're talking like, like, like T-ball players. little league rule
- 6:42Speaker 4: right there like don't run just don't just just stop
- 6:45Speaker 4: you did good enough let the next guy.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Try and launch because at that point all you need
- 6:50Speaker 2: is a is a single to that's.
- 6:52Speaker 4: It just tie at that juncture you just tie up
- 6:54Speaker 4: the game tie it up at least or the go-ahead
- 6:58Speaker 4: run was all you needed was a home.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Run so what is so when do they play next.
- 7:03Speaker 3: They're off tonight. They play. No, no, no. They're off tonight.
- 7:06Speaker 3: They'll play tomorrow.
- 7:08Speaker 4: That's another thing that they did, which was very different
- 7:11Speaker 4: from back in the day.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Now they're taking a day off in between. Oh, because why?
- 7:16Speaker 3: You guys played so hard. You need a day off.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Enough. No, it's for the league's purposes to get more
- 7:22Speaker 2: press and to have more attention and so forth. Well,
- 7:27Speaker 2: the interesting thing is Yankees fans get upset, stomp their feet, stammer,
- 7:33Speaker 2: blow spittle out in the air because they haven't won
- 7:36Speaker 2: a World Series since 2009. Meanwhile, you've got people like
- 7:40Speaker 2: the Mets, like my Rangers, like the Cubs, like a
- 7:45Speaker 2: whole bunch of others, that they go considerably further back
- 7:49Speaker 2: from that from the last time they were even in
- 7:51Speaker 2: the series, much less having had a chance to win one.
- 7:54Speaker 4: They're not the Yankees. To my point, they are not
- 7:57Speaker 4: the Yankees. We are really held to a higher standard.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Well, I can only relate to it from this standpoint.
- 8:04Speaker 2: In the NFL, the same principle applies to the Cowboys.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And we haven't won a Super Bowl in 30 years,
- 8:11Speaker 2: literally 30 years. And yet it's the most profitable sports
- 8:15Speaker 2: franchise on the planet. And everybody expects, you know, we
- 8:19Speaker 2: started one and two this, this year, we, we won
- 8:22Speaker 2: this week. So we're back to even, but you know,
- 8:25Speaker 2: we've got a long way to go for, if this
- 8:26Speaker 2: is the year that it's supposed to be, it's like, we're,
- 8:29Speaker 2: you know, the other thing talking about the baseball guys
- 8:32Speaker 2: on Friday, I don't know that any team like really
- 8:37Speaker 2: has any chance as long as the Dodgers have the
- 8:40Speaker 2: lineup that they have. Now I know Otani is, injured
- 8:43Speaker 2: and he's not pitching right now. But when that dude
- 8:46Speaker 2: is at full strength, that team is unstoppable.
- 8:50Speaker 4: He, listen, and this is what ends up happening to
- 8:53Speaker 4: me every year since 2009.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I think the Yankees thought Judge was going to kind
- 8:57Speaker 2: of like neutralize him.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Let me just say something.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Aaron Judge, healthy or not healthy, he tanks every postseason.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Every postseason, some dark horse comes in and saves it.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Well, not really saves it, but does incredibly well.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, someone you're not expecting. Is Judge even in the
- 9:17Speaker 2: lineup right now? Yeah, he's out.
- 9:19Speaker 3: He's out, he's out, he's out. Stanton's out. But Stanton,
- 9:22Speaker 3: he hasn't freaking played this guy since freaking April. I mean,
- 9:25Speaker 3: Aaron Boone, listen. Aaron, get yourself out. Let me come in.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I'm telling you, if I could manage a game for
- 9:32Speaker 3: the Yankees, I'll tell you right now.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But what's funny is, friends, those of you listening, Linda
- 9:36Speaker 2: is on a first-name basis with most of the Yankee GMs.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So she can call them Aaron and Joe and these
- 9:42Speaker 2: guys because she's filled their ears with her thoughts before.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 9:47Speaker 4: No, but I'm just, well, listen, we need Girardi back
- 9:49Speaker 4: in there only because he's Italian.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I mean, you need an Italian manager. How well you've done.
- 9:54Speaker 2: You wouldn't take Torrey?
- 9:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, but, I mean, Joe's old.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Not a Billy Martin fan, though, huh?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Billy Martin drunk. No, that's OK. Interesting.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Dramatic. I mean, you had to. But again, listen, Billy
- 10:10Speaker 3: Martin or no Billy Martin.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Those were the Yankees of the 70s and they were undefeatable.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Do you I don't know if you remember. I forget
- 10:19Speaker 3: what year it was.
- 10:20Speaker 4: So somebody with sport, a sports statistician would tell me.
- 10:25Speaker 3: There was a time when the Yankees went. So you use.
- 10:29Speaker 2: A hold this. This story is turning into something else.
- 10:31Speaker 2: We got to take a break. Be right back. She's Linda.
- 10:34Speaker 2: She's upset about the Yankees. Don't go anywhere.
- 10:40Speaker 1: From New York, it's Radio Night Live with Kevin McCullough.
- 10:45Speaker 2: All right. Welcome back. It's Tuesday night. We haven't really
- 10:49Speaker 2: talked about travel at all. We've mentioned Tampa Bay and
- 10:51Speaker 2: New York. That's about all we've, well, I guess Linda
- 10:54Speaker 2: did mention Boston. So we've kind of mentioned other places,
- 10:58Speaker 2: but that's okay because when the Yankees are wrapping up
- 11:01Speaker 2: their season, which it.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Looks like they are.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Linda has free reign. We give it to her because
- 11:09Speaker 2: she's going to go crazy if she can't say what's
- 11:11Speaker 2: on her mind.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I have a really good friend who's got a very
- 11:16Speaker 4: high ranking position there.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I texted him last night.
- 11:20Speaker 4: And I said, well, at least you could go on
- 11:23Speaker 4: vacation Thursday. They are they are never coming out of this.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And you know what? You want to believe.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Well, it sounds like they only have one game left.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So, well, it's a three out of five.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Right. And they're down 0-2.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they're down 0-2. I mean, it would.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Take a ferocious three-game winning streak against a team that
- 11:43Speaker 2: just blanked them twice in a row to get further.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And listen, and there have been historical postseasons where teams,
- 11:52Speaker 4: the Red Sox have done it.
- 11:55Speaker 3: The Red Sox were down three games to nothing in,
- 11:58Speaker 3: I think, the ALCS. Yeah. I don't know how many
- 12:06Speaker 3: years ago and they came back to win.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Listen, if here's the thing, if anybody can do it,
- 12:12Speaker 4: the Yankees can.
- 12:13Speaker 2: That is such a delusional Yankee fan talking. No, you
- 12:20Speaker 2: guys are the, but, but I love it. Cause you're
- 12:22Speaker 2: the best. You're the, you're so loyal. It's like, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 2: they're terrible. We should fire them all, get rid of
- 12:27Speaker 2: all of them, kick them all into the ocean. They're terrible.
- 12:29Speaker 2: You know, drown them all. And then and then in
- 12:33Speaker 2: the same breath. But, you know, if there's anybody that
- 12:35Speaker 2: can come back.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But it's true. But here's what I don't understand.
- 12:38Speaker 4: So apparently now, again, I don't know if this has changed.
- 12:41Speaker 4: We are supposed to have the most I'm going to
- 12:44Speaker 4: use the word lucrative. I don't know if that's the
- 12:46Speaker 4: right word. Richest payroll.
- 12:50Speaker 3: You do.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:52Speaker 3: In all that way.
- 12:53Speaker 4: So why don't we have the dream team?
- 12:58Speaker 2: Because Los Angeles spent slightly more about four years ago
- 13:02Speaker 2: when they got Otani.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Let me tell you. Oh, this is what I was
- 13:05Speaker 3: saying to you.
- 13:05Speaker 4: So since the Yankees have tanked, you know, I always
- 13:09Speaker 4: I always attach myself to some team in the World
- 13:11Speaker 4: Series that I do end up rooting for. And I
- 13:14Speaker 4: got to tell you, because I do love L.A., I
- 13:16Speaker 4: love California, and there's always been a Dodger-Yankee rivalry. But
- 13:21Speaker 4: if you've ever, Kevin, gone to L.A. and gone to
- 13:24Speaker 4: Dodger Stadium, where I have gone and seen the Yankees
- 13:27Speaker 4: play the Dodgers, Dodger Stadium is just— it' s an anomaly, and
- 13:32Speaker 4: it's a.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Wonderful place to see a baseball game.
- 13:36Speaker 4: So I usually align myself with the Dodgers, and I do—
- 13:40Speaker 4: They play.
- 13:41Speaker 3: With so much heart and grit and grit. That's what
- 13:44Speaker 3: it is. They play with so much grit. They don't
- 13:47Speaker 3: want to lose to anybody. And they don't.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:50Speaker 4: So you have Otani. You've got Freddie Freeman, whom I
- 13:52Speaker 4: absolutely adore. You know, they they have a great team.
- 13:57Speaker 4: They've got a great bullpen. They're great offensively.
- 14:01Speaker 3: You know, the Yankees have got you know what? You
- 14:03Speaker 3: got a couple of good guys. The other ones fight it.
- 14:07Speaker 3: That's all I'm going to say.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Get rid of them. Get rid of them. Just get
- 14:12Speaker 4: rid of them. Anybody that's what do you call it?
- 14:16Speaker 4: Anybody that's you're wavering that doesn't have a contract through 2030.
- 14:19Speaker 2: You just want a clean house. And that's Judge and everybody.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Well, Judge, here's the thing.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Judge will remain a Yankee, just like Derek Jeter remained
- 14:31Speaker 4: a Yankee for his entire career.
- 14:34Speaker 3: We are enamored with Aaron Judge. And why?
- 14:38Speaker 2: Why?
- 14:39Speaker 4: He's the captain. He's a great hitter. But he's sporadic.
- 14:46Speaker 4: He is not trustworthy. And I think that sounds terrible.
- 14:50Speaker 4: But if he was hitting a home run every time
- 14:52Speaker 4: he got up, you go, okay.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I mean, that's impossible.
- 14:54Speaker 4: But let's say majority of the time, he can't. And
- 14:56Speaker 4: in the postseason, when you do need him, he's not great.
- 15:01Speaker 3: You know who's awesome? Love Cody Ballinger. Love. Completely underrated.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I think.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Ben Rice is completely underrated and he's an amazing guy.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Paul Goldschmidt. I mean, Gold Glove, that guy.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Comes through in the clutch every single time. But you've
- 15:20Speaker 4: got people that like Waver, like Wells. But here's the
- 15:23Speaker 4: thing with Austin Wells.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And you've got to watch.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Besides being slow as a freight train?
- 15:28Speaker 4: Besides that, Austin Wells is not great offensively. However, he's
- 15:34Speaker 4: a fantastic catcher. And you know where you can really,
- 15:37Speaker 4: really count on him? You know that they have these
- 15:41Speaker 4: challenges now, right, where a pitch comes through and someone
- 15:44Speaker 4: can challenge the pitch. They go back and they look
- 15:47Speaker 4: at the AI version of whatever the heck it is.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Because he's a catcher, his perspective is very different. Every time,
- 15:54Speaker 4: I think he's got like an 88% call. Every time
- 15:58Speaker 4: he makes a challenge, he's right. And that's where we
- 16:02Speaker 4: need Austin Wells, behind the plate. But his bat bites it.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Trent Grisham, he's not great offensively either.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Austin Wells, just for a second, further on him. He
- 16:11Speaker 2: had the worst batting average of any major league catcher
- 16:15Speaker 2: this season, I believe.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Well, he was that good defensively.
- 16:20Speaker 4: But I think he's a very and you got to remember, Kevin,
- 16:23Speaker 4: when we put ingredients into I think into any sports team. Right.
- 16:28Speaker 4: You're not like I have to tell my son this.
- 16:29Speaker 4: He plays basketball. My son is a very white Italian boy,
- 16:35Speaker 4: average height. And I think he just thinks that he
- 16:38Speaker 4: is like he's Kobe. He thinks that he has reincarnated Kobe.
- 16:43Speaker 4: And I and I say to him, John Marco, I'm
- 16:45Speaker 4: going to tell you something. You don't have to be
- 16:48Speaker 4: the best shooter on your team. This is a team, right?
- 16:52Speaker 4: So everyone's talents have to come together.
- 16:55Speaker 3: For a win. I said, you can be a great defenseman.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Look at Dennis Rodman.
- 17:00Speaker 4: You could be a great defensive player and not score
- 17:04Speaker 4: that many baskets because that's what they need you for.
- 17:08Speaker 3: They need you for strategy. They need you for rebounds.
- 17:11Speaker 3: They need you.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Is he.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Height-wise, does he fit a guard or more of a
- 17:16Speaker 2: 3-4 position?
- 17:17Speaker 4: Well, he's still growing, right? So he's 13, average height.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Very fast.
- 17:22Speaker 2: How tall is he at 13? I think, what is he.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Like 5'5 right now?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Okay.
- 17:28Speaker 3: So he's like average. Hopefully he'll still grow.
- 17:31Speaker 2: So he's playing junior high?
- 17:33Speaker 3: AAU. He's playing AAU basketball because we don't have a
- 17:37Speaker 3: junior high.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't either.
- 17:39Speaker 3: So we don't do that.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Where I grew up, we all had, like all the
- 17:42Speaker 2: schools had junior high leagues with the schools, but it's
- 17:46Speaker 2: not the way here in the Northeast. How long has
- 17:50Speaker 2: he played?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Oh, since he was little, since he was little, but
- 17:54Speaker 4: you know, he really, here's the other thing too. He tries,
- 17:58Speaker 4: he's at the gym every day for open gym. And
- 18:00Speaker 4: when I don't let him go to open gym because
- 18:02Speaker 4: he's got practice, he's at practice. So this kid's playing
- 18:05Speaker 4: seven days a week, but PS, that's what it takes
- 18:08Speaker 4: to be really good. But again, Kevin, you got to
- 18:12Speaker 4: instill teamwork into them. You're not going to be, you
- 18:16Speaker 4: may have somebody that is slow, but he can shoot.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Well, the best way to secure a starting position, if
- 18:23Speaker 2: you're not the absolute best shooter on the team, because
- 18:27Speaker 2: I coached college hoops for about seven years, um, become the, the, um,
- 18:33Speaker 2: become the rebounder that you absolutely cannot have on the floor. Yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 2: You have to have them on the floor all the time,
- 18:40Speaker 2: which was what Horace Grant was for the first three
- 18:43Speaker 2: bulls championship. It's what Dennis Rodman was for the second
- 18:46Speaker 2: three bulls championships. It's what for large part, Kurt Rambis
- 18:50Speaker 2: was for the Lakers and AC green. And some of
- 18:52Speaker 2: those guys, they weren't the magic or the worthy or
- 18:55Speaker 2: the Korean or the, you know, they were, they were
- 18:56Speaker 2: the guy that was there to clean up, but you've
- 18:58Speaker 2: got to have, a strong rebounder for someone that's going
- 19:01Speaker 2: to be taking a lot of shots on the other
- 19:03Speaker 2: side of the floor. So you gave him good advice
- 19:05Speaker 2: for sure. We've got to take a quick break. She's Linda.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I'm Kevin. Don't go anywhere.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And now from New York, back to Radio Night Live,
- 19:18Speaker 1: here's Kevin McCullough.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Welcome back. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. It's Travel Tuesday. We
- 19:24Speaker 2: will talk about some travel in a bit, but Linda's
- 19:26Speaker 2: vexing all of her Yankees demons from the last 24 hours.
- 19:31Speaker 2: She just needed to grab a microphone and just yell
- 19:33Speaker 2: into it for a little bit. So we're accommodating her
- 19:36Speaker 2: on that.
- 19:36Speaker 3: You know what it is? I'm a female. I'm a girl, Kevin.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Which is what makes this even more shocking because I
- 19:43Speaker 2: know a lot of men that feel the way you do.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I don't know that I... Maybe you and Christine are
- 19:47Speaker 2: the only two women I know.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I am passionate about my... pinstripes.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I haven't noticed that. But let's let's go forward. You
- 19:55Speaker 2: were you were about to tell us what year it was.
- 19:59Speaker 4: But the all-star break is when you– it's like a ruler, right?
- 20:04Speaker 3: When you're going– you've got.
- 20:05Speaker 4: To see where you're at when you're going into the
- 20:08Speaker 4: all-star break. How many games above 500 are you?
- 20:11Speaker 3: Where are you?
- 20:12Speaker 4: How many games below 500 are you? Well, they went
- 20:14Speaker 4: into the all-star.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Do you need to hit a trade before the deadline
- 20:17Speaker 2: to make the run for the fall, et cetera?
- 20:19Speaker 1: All that stuff, right?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 3: P.S., there was a year in the 70s, I forget
- 20:24Speaker 3: what it was.
- 20:24Speaker 4: The Yankees were, they closed out the All-Star break 14
- 20:31Speaker 4: games behind the Red Sox, okay? And back in the day, Kev,
- 20:38Speaker 4: do you remember? It was very cut and dry. You
- 20:40Speaker 4: had American League, you had National League. National League played
- 20:43Speaker 4: National League, American League played American League. You had two divisions,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you had East and West, AL East and West, you
- 20:51Speaker 4: had NL East and West. They played for the pennant.
- 20:54Speaker 4: There was no wild card. There was no ALCS. It
- 20:58Speaker 4: was just very simple. The Yankees won the World.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Series that year after being behind.
- 21:04Speaker 4: 14 games behind the Red Sox.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Because why? Why? because they wanted it.
- 21:13Speaker 4: And they were the Yankees, and George Steinbrenner was at
- 21:16Speaker 4: the helm, and they had a reputation to uphold. Today,
- 21:20Speaker 4: get rid of Boone. That guy takes pitchers out. I
- 21:24Speaker 4: think he sits in the dugout chewing on his nails
- 21:27Speaker 4: like this, going, oh, boy, it's almost the fifth inning.
- 21:30Speaker 3: What's the pitch count? You know, it doesn't matter if
- 21:32Speaker 3: he's got a no-hitter. I'm going to pull him.
- 21:34Speaker 4: And then you go to really the weakest part, I think.
- 21:38Speaker 4: of the Yankees' entire family, their bullpen is really not strong.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Your best bet is Cam Schlittler, who's a starter, right?
- 21:49Speaker 3: So you don't want to leave him in there.
- 21:50Speaker 4: They were, you know, Garrett Cole, he tanked this year too.
- 21:54Speaker 4: He was supposed to be their ace. They need to
- 21:57Speaker 4: spend money on pitching and get people like Drew Rasmussen
- 22:02Speaker 4: in there, get people like, oh my God, I'm like
- 22:06Speaker 4: drawing blanks.
- 22:07Speaker 3: But Like, their pitching is awful. Sorry.
- 22:12Speaker 2: It's obviously really bothered you. I bet you barely slept
- 22:17Speaker 2: last night.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I'm watching.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I did.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So much anxiety.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I had to get up and box this morning, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 4: at 530.
- 22:22Speaker 3: And I'm like, I can't sleep because they freaking lost.
- 22:26Speaker 3: But Ben Rice, Ben Aros.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I bet your boxing session was good, though. You had
- 22:31Speaker 2: all that adrenaline to get out of your system.
- 22:33Speaker 3: It was me and Aaron Boone.
- 22:35Speaker 1: That's who....
- 22:38Speaker 2: You stupid guy. I'll take that. You're awful.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Stop chewing on your freaking sunflower seeds and spitting them
- 22:45Speaker 4: out and go figure out your damn.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Lineup, dude.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Well, and the thing is, like, you've got... What's with
- 22:50Speaker 2: the sunflower seeds? I know it's healthier than tobacco, but
- 22:53Speaker 2: like there's just something about like.
- 22:55Speaker 3: They're anxious. Wouldn't you be anxious? You had the problems
- 23:00Speaker 3: he has. I'd be anxious, too. I mean, really.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I mean, he's in the playoffs. That's more than the
- 23:05Speaker 2: Mets got.
- 23:06Speaker 3: OK, but guess what?
- 23:07Speaker 4: He only bypassed. If this was back in the day, Kevin,
- 23:12Speaker 4: they wouldn't have made it this year. Right. With the
- 23:14Speaker 4: with the way they used to cut it up. They
- 23:16Speaker 4: wouldn't have made it. But he he was graced with
- 23:19Speaker 4: a wild card.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I mean, here's that's another thing.
- 23:22Speaker 4: You end up in a wild race.
- 23:24Speaker 2: The wild. You are in the wild card.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:26Speaker 4: But that's the bottom of the bottom of the bottom
- 23:29Speaker 4: of playoffs. In 1975, there wouldn't have been a wild card.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Right. But the point is, and you were only eight
- 23:41Speaker 2: in 1975. So just give it a break.
- 23:43Speaker 3: But I was still watching them.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I guess. Here's the thing. Like, so shouldn't the team
- 23:51Speaker 2: that barely skates in on the wild card probably lose
- 23:54Speaker 2: in the wild card round, if not the first round
- 23:56Speaker 2: of the. of the next round?
- 24:00Speaker 3: Well, look what happened, right? So you had Boston and
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Yankees.
- 24:04Speaker 4: The Yankees, you know, they annihilated Boston, which was great,
- 24:08Speaker 4: but they can't annihilate Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay was in
- 24:11Speaker 4: the same position they were, and they were a wild card. Like,
- 24:14Speaker 4: they're supposed to be relatively equal, but there's obviously no equivalent.
- 24:21Speaker 4: The only thing somebody would argue with me and say,
- 24:23Speaker 4: these are low-scoring games, but last night was not a
- 24:26Speaker 4: low-scoring game.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I mean, If.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You watch the fifth inning last night, it was like
- 24:35Speaker 4: error after error after error.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I couldn't even believe these were the same guys.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I can't.
- 24:41Speaker 3: And I think what kills me.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Generally, Kevin, they make a bazillion dollars each.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And this is what their dream is. And out of
- 24:50Speaker 4: I always say to my kids, you could have the
- 24:52Speaker 4: worst team in baseball and you find the worst player
- 24:56Speaker 4: on that team with the worst stats.
- 24:58Speaker 3: He was still.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Probably the best player on this high school team because that's.
- 25:04Speaker 3: What it takes to get him to the MLB.
- 25:06Speaker 4: These guys should not be messing up.
- 25:08Speaker 2: He might be the best player in the whole city's
- 25:11Speaker 2: regional high school teams.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Goldschmidt in there. Goldschmidt always comes through. Gold Glove. And
- 25:17Speaker 3: where is he?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Taking another break. Linda's going to keep talking all the
- 25:21Speaker 2: way through the conversation. We'll be right back.
- 25:27Speaker 3: What a little moonlight can do.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It's Radio Night Live. Here's Kevin McCullough.
- 25:34Speaker 2: All right. I know we promised we'd move on. Linda
- 25:36Speaker 2: wants to add one more thing before we're done with
- 25:40Speaker 2: the Yankees. Go right ahead, lady.
- 25:42Speaker 4: I just want to tell you that even though I'm
- 25:44Speaker 4: a girly girl. Everything you heard from me this morning
- 25:48Speaker 4: aligns with what Gary Phillips from the Daily News just wrote.
- 25:53Speaker 4: And he said the Yankees humiliated themselves in game two.
- 26:00Speaker 3: And now they are on the brink of elimination. And that.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Says it all and you can do what you want
- 26:08Speaker 4: and we'll get, you know, Spike Lee and he can rah, rah,
- 26:11Speaker 4: and Billy Crystal rah, rah, not going to help them.
- 26:15Speaker 4: If these guys don't want it, they played like complete
- 26:19Speaker 4: juveniles last night.
- 26:21Speaker 2: All right. Is that, is that the final word?
- 26:24Speaker 3: Final word. And I hope they hear me.
- 26:27Speaker 2: All right. Um, moving on the governor of New York state,
- 26:31Speaker 2: speaking of, uh, big winners, um, She has declared a
- 26:36Speaker 2: measles emergency in rural New York. What what is going
- 26:41Speaker 2: on here?
- 26:42Speaker 3: So, OK, Kevin, so I'm going to give you the synopsis.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And if people are thinking about coming to New York,
- 26:48Speaker 2: traveling here, is this something they need to be worried about?
- 26:51Speaker 3: Well, let me just let me just say this.
- 26:54Speaker 4: OK, I am trad mom when it comes to vaccines.
- 26:59Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Let's start for one second here with because I think
- 27:04Speaker 4: that there's two prong issue going on with this with
- 27:07Speaker 4: the measles case. And I'm going to get to that
- 27:09Speaker 4: in a second. But this is what happens. Measles was
- 27:14Speaker 4: a disease that has been eradicated, eradicated probably, I don't know,
- 27:21Speaker 4: maybe 70 years ago. For somebody in the United States
- 27:26Speaker 4: of America to not vaccinate their.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Kid with an MMR.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And I don't know if these days you can split
- 27:33Speaker 4: that vaccine. That's measles, mumps, rubella. Right. Is beyond comprehension.
- 27:39Speaker 4: I understand that there are. You have to put on
- 27:43Speaker 4: your thinking caps when it comes to the flu vaccine.
- 27:45Speaker 4: You want to put on your thinking caps when it
- 27:46Speaker 4: comes to RSV. You want to put on your thinking
- 27:48Speaker 4: caps when it comes to COVID.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Vaccine, right? Okay, fine. But things like measles, how about
- 27:55Speaker 3: whooping cough?
- 27:56Speaker 4: These are diseases that killed people.
- 28:01Speaker 3: You understand what I'm saying?
- 28:02Speaker 2: And they've been dead in our country for 100 years.
- 28:05Speaker 4: So, ding, ding, ding, Kevin, you win the car today
- 28:10Speaker 4: because what is happening? You get somebody like Hochul. that
- 28:15Speaker 4: grants immunity to all these migrants that come in and
- 28:19Speaker 4: they are not vaccinated.
- 28:21Speaker 3: OK, they're just coming in bare, whatever. They're coming in
- 28:27Speaker 3: naked with no vaccines.
- 28:29Speaker 4: And that's what starts to cause another epidemic.
- 28:34Speaker 3: OK, so what are we going to do?
- 28:37Speaker 4: The only thing we can do, our control here, we
- 28:40Speaker 4: can't control the government. We can't control what Kathy Hochul
- 28:42Speaker 4: is doing. We can control what we do with our kids.
- 28:46Speaker 4: And I have to stand up for all these vaccines, again,
- 28:50Speaker 4: that have been tried and true and have eradicated, that
- 28:53Speaker 4: word eradicated is so important, Kevin, eradicated diseases that have
- 28:58Speaker 4: killed people.
- 29:01Speaker 3: You can die from measles.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Yeah. No, the interesting thing about this is the people
- 29:06Speaker 2: that are very vaccine hesitant, they have all kinds of
- 29:10Speaker 2: reasons to be hesitant about modern vaccines because those things
- 29:14Speaker 2: have such a mixed bag of results. And it's not,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I don't think this is a simple cut. All vaccines
- 29:19Speaker 2: are bad. All vaccines are good. And these traditional ones,
- 29:23Speaker 2: the MMR, the whooping cough, these things that, you know,
- 29:27Speaker 2: I got when I was a kid, my kids all got.
- 29:30Speaker 2: These are the ones that we should be taking. And
- 29:33Speaker 2: all the doctors that I speak with across the board,
- 29:35Speaker 2: even the ones that have uh, regrets and hesitations about
- 29:39Speaker 2: the COVID stuff and the MRNA, they all agree that
- 29:42Speaker 2: these vaccines worked and, you know, should still be being practiced.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So why your kid, Kevin should have measles.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:52Speaker 3: What is this?
- 29:53Speaker 4: 1940.
- 29:53Speaker 2: The one thing that I will add that you just
- 29:56Speaker 2: mentioned that I think a lot of people, um, don't
- 29:59Speaker 2: realize is that if, if you do break them up
- 30:02Speaker 2: as well, now, I don't think you break up MMR.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Like that's, that's one vaccine, but you, if you just
- 30:07Speaker 2: take that one at that time, and then two weeks later,
- 30:11Speaker 2: take the next thing. Like, I don't, I'm not a
- 30:13Speaker 2: big fan of like, let's just shoot them all.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Up at, you know, six months old with.
- 30:18Speaker 2: All of them or whatever. No, if you are, if
- 30:21Speaker 2: you're uncomfortable with that, break them up, but get the
- 30:24Speaker 2: ones that are proven to work.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Well, even DPT.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I mean, they've been around forever. Diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Pertussis is whooping cough, right?
- 30:32Speaker 3: Again, you know, so.
- 30:33Speaker 4: There are diseases that if you got them, Kevin, or
- 30:36Speaker 4: I got them, even like RSV, it may show up
- 30:40Speaker 4: as a cough or a cold or something like that.
- 30:43Speaker 4: But if a young child gets them or a baby
- 30:45Speaker 4: gets them and they don't have those.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Immunities, they could die, you know? And, and, I just
- 30:53Speaker 3: want to know, are people playing doctor? Are you playing doctor?
- 30:57Speaker 3: Why do you think that... You're going to a.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Pediatrician for a reason, I would think, right? I mean,
- 31:08Speaker 4: you have to trust what they're telling you. And yes,
- 31:12Speaker 4: you are correct. There are these, I call them like
- 31:14Speaker 4: these ancillary vaccines, right, that have come on COVID, even RSV.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Then there's one now for rotavirus.
- 31:22Speaker 4: All right, you want to delve into that a little
- 31:24Speaker 4: more and see what the repercussions are and what the.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I mean, I call them the basic ones. These are
- 31:31Speaker 3: like your tried and true.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Like I said, 50 plus years of proof of
- 31:36Speaker 2: work and.
- 31:37Speaker 3: That is correct.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And all doctors agree on them.
- 31:39Speaker 4: It's the migrants that are coming in and don't want
- 31:42Speaker 4: to do it. And there are populations out there, Kevin,
- 31:45Speaker 4: and I don't want to get in trouble because I
- 31:47Speaker 4: can point out that there are certain ethnic populations that
- 31:51Speaker 4: do not vaccinate their kids for whatever reasons. And they
- 31:55Speaker 4: are the ones that really have the problem.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Now, rural New York. Why rural New York?
- 32:00Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:01Speaker 3: What are they saying here? Is there a reason why
- 32:03Speaker 3: it's rural New York?
- 32:04Speaker 2: Well, it was that's where the cases have multiplied the fastest.
- 32:08Speaker 2: But she is putting that into effect statewide, I think.
- 32:15Speaker 3: And she should. And of course, listen, we know that
- 32:18Speaker 3: we know that New York City.
- 32:23Speaker 4: Is a Petri dish, right? You know, it's not my
- 32:25Speaker 4: favorite place in the world. And that's where a lot
- 32:27Speaker 4: of people go. That's where the migrants do go to
- 32:30Speaker 4: set up camp.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And, you know, they get whatever they need there, whether
- 32:33Speaker 3: it's the freebies or whatever. And they're coming in again
- 32:36Speaker 3: and they're not vaccinated.
- 32:38Speaker 4: And, you know, that's where I think that's what she's
- 32:41Speaker 4: trying to stop. Because New York City, I mean, if
- 32:45Speaker 4: you get another pandemic in.
- 32:47Speaker 2: New York, you know, what would be more effective than that?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Just work with the feds to stop the illegal immigration. Well,
- 32:54Speaker 2: instead of instead of opposing the feds, just work.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Oh, no, don't you?
- 32:58Speaker 2: I mean, help her help your own people.
- 33:00Speaker 3: New York State is an asylum state. I'm like, what?
- 33:06Speaker 3: Why in this day and age? For what purpose? I
- 33:11Speaker 3: don't care, Kevin. We've spoken about this, right? I don't care.
- 33:15Speaker 4: There are plenty of good people out there that want
- 33:17Speaker 4: to come into this country the right way.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Got to take one more break. Be right back. Final
- 33:22Speaker 2: segment with Linda.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Once again, from New York, here's Radio Night Live and
- 33:32Speaker 1: Kevin McCullough.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Welcome back. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. Glad to have you
- 33:37Speaker 2: with us. Not to not talk about travel at all tonight.
- 33:43Speaker 2: There is a Italian pastry, Linda. And already you've got
- 33:48Speaker 2: my attention. Pastry and Italian. My radar just went up.
- 33:52Speaker 2: That is taking the world by storm. But you're familiar
- 33:55Speaker 2: with it. It's a bombolone.
- 33:59Speaker 4: And it is a very it's very similar to a Zeppole.
- 34:04Speaker 3: So, you know, everything, Kevin, that comes.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Those sound like donuts to my ears.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Well, you know what? Everything that comes over. I'm just
- 34:13Speaker 3: using Italy as an example.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Everything that comes into the.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Italian-American cuisine did have an, even though we've bastardized a
- 34:21Speaker 4: lot of this stuff, it does have an origin somewhere, right?
- 34:26Speaker 4: So this one they're saying, the Bambalone, is up north,
- 34:30Speaker 4: very far up north. The Dolomites are a borderline Germany-Swiss
- 34:35Speaker 4: area and very cold up there, especially during the wintertime.
- 34:40Speaker 4: So this is like a very warm comfort food type
- 34:45Speaker 4: of thing. And Italians love their dough. So it's like
- 34:50Speaker 4: a big zeppole, the doughy center. You want to eat
- 34:54Speaker 4: it hot. And that's pretty much it.
- 34:59Speaker 2: The Refugio in Italy's Val di Fossa Valley. That's up north?
- 35:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Valdi Fassa.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Yes. And Stanley Tucci loves to go up north more
- 35:15Speaker 4: than he likes to go down south to review culinary
- 35:17Speaker 4: and the fact that he I don't like Stanley Tucci
- 35:20Speaker 4: at all.
- 35:21Speaker 2: His politics are very at odds with mine. But I
- 35:24Speaker 2: do find his traveling of Italy very interesting.
- 35:26Speaker 3: It's interesting.
- 35:27Speaker 4: I think he's very arrogant, to be quite honest with you.
- 35:29Speaker 4: But anyway, he did do sampling these pastries, as he would,
- 35:35Speaker 4: because he does love northern cuisine, I think, more than
- 35:37Speaker 4: he likes southern cuisine.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 35:39Speaker 2: He's got some good episodes on southern Italy.
- 35:41Speaker 3: He does.
- 35:42Speaker 4: But I've watched him more on the northern stuff. like
- 35:45Speaker 4: up by you know what i have to admit a
- 35:48Speaker 4: lot of it was on during the olympics last year
- 35:51Speaker 4: which they had to do that's.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Where they were yeah so uh you're right there.
- 35:55Speaker 4: In the bumbaloney you can make a bumbaloney in your
- 35:58Speaker 4: kitchen kev well.
- 36:00Speaker 2: You're gonna have to give us a recipe for it
- 36:02Speaker 2: does does mama perillo have a bumbaloney recipe No.
- 36:07Speaker 3: But I can get one.
- 36:08Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I'm sure Giada makes bombolone.
- 36:11Speaker 2: You know, you know, you know, some Nona somewhere that's
- 36:13Speaker 2: hand rolling the bubble.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I am a Nona, but I don't hand roll my dough.
- 36:17Speaker 2: No, but man, can you chew out the Yankees when
- 36:19Speaker 2: they lose?
- 36:20Speaker 3: Like I will continue to do.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Everyone's got their own talents, I guess.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Until next week when they're basking themselves in the Mexican
- 36:27Speaker 4: sun somewhere. They're all inclusive instead of playing baseball because
- 36:31Speaker 4: that's what they're going to do.
- 36:33Speaker 2: You know, it's kind of sad. When I was growing up,
- 36:36Speaker 2: I was a huge Lakers fan. And I would read
- 36:38Speaker 2: about how they would spend the offseason on years after
- 36:41Speaker 2: they lost in the finals. And it was always like...
- 36:44Speaker 2: And that was in the Pat Riley era. So you
- 36:46Speaker 2: had Magic Johnson. You had Pat Riley. You had James Worthy.
- 36:50Speaker 2: You had some of these guys. They'd all go on
- 36:52Speaker 2: vacation together in the summer. And they'd just sit on
- 36:55Speaker 2: the beach and stew about how they lost. And they'd
- 36:58Speaker 2: get so angry. And they'd attack the season after that.
- 37:01Speaker 2: They almost always... If they lost in the finals the
- 37:05Speaker 2: year before, they almost always came back and won the
- 37:07Speaker 2: next year. And it was this, we're just not going
- 37:09Speaker 2: to accept being subpar, you know, in their gut. And
- 37:15Speaker 2: that's the thing. If it really bothers you, you're going
- 37:18Speaker 2: to do something to make it.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Well, that's it. I don't want to hear about where
- 37:21Speaker 4: you went on vacation after you lost because you still
- 37:24Speaker 4: should have been playing baseball.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Sorry, that's what you get paid for.
- 37:27Speaker 2: That's what the fans say. That's what the fan says.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Yep.
- 37:30Speaker 2: The number one fan. All right. Linda, thank you for
- 37:33Speaker 2: a great night. Friends, join me tomorrow night. More Radio
- 37:35Speaker 2: Night Live. We'll see you then.
