- 0:00Speaker 1: Section twenty six of the Heart of the New Thought
- 0:04Speaker 1: by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. This LibriVox recording is in the
- 0:08Speaker 1: public domain. Destiny, never say that you wish your situation
- 0:16Speaker 1: were different, Never wish you had some other person's life
- 0:22Speaker 1: or troubles or worries except your own as a working
- 0:26Speaker 1: basis the best for you. Then go ahead and change
- 0:32Speaker 1: whatever displeases you. Remember you are the maker and molder
- 0:38Speaker 1: of your own destiny. You do not recall the fact,
- 0:42Speaker 1: but you wrote about the present conditions of your destiny
- 0:46Speaker 1: in former incarnations. Even if you do not believe this,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you must acknowledge that you are here and that the
- 0:56Speaker 1: situation in which you find yourself seems to be inevitable
- 1:00Speaker 1: for the present, But it is not inevitable for the future.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Unless you lie down in the furrow and wine and
- 1:09Speaker 1: wish you were a millionaire or a genius, and rail
- 1:13Speaker 1: at the partiality of providence. There is no partiality in
- 1:18Speaker 1: the universe. The whole scheme is well balanced. If you
- 1:23Speaker 1: were allowed to change lots with anyone on the faith
- 1:26Speaker 1: of the earth, you would complain and find fault in
- 1:29Speaker 1: a short time. One of our best known millionaires own
- 1:34Speaker 1: to opulence complains that he has been robbed of the
- 1:38Speaker 1: privilege of making his own fortune. He is no happier
- 1:42Speaker 1: than you. His confession betrays his weakness of character, just
- 1:47Speaker 1: as your repining and fault finding betrays yours. The real
- 1:52Speaker 1: worthwhile character thanks God for its destiny, and says, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: will show the world what I can't do with my life.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Not long ago there was a great trotting race at
- 2:06Speaker 1: Brighton Beach. The blind conqueror Rhythmic, won five consecutive races.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Think of it. He did not, like a mortal man,
- 2:18Speaker 1: shrink back and say, I'm blind. That is a terrible destiny.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I am cursed of God. I will not try to
- 2:26Speaker 1: win the race. He just trusted the hand of the
- 2:31Speaker 1: master at the reins, did his best, and won the
- 2:34Speaker 1: honors of the season. We are all blind racers on
- 2:40Speaker 1: the track of earth. The king, the millionaire, the statesman,
- 2:44Speaker 1: the lawmaker, the beggar, the laborer, the cripple. We are
- 2:49Speaker 1: all in the dark. The only thing is to trust
- 2:52Speaker 1: the hand of the master and do our best. Believe
- 2:57Speaker 1: your position is the right starting point. For you merely
- 3:01Speaker 1: the starting point. It is the shapeless block of stone
- 3:06Speaker 1: from which you are to fashion the perfect statue, or
- 3:11Speaker 1: it is the mere mud from which you are to
- 3:14Speaker 1: mold the clay image, and later that is to be
- 3:18Speaker 1: put into enduring marble. What is uglier or more unattractive
- 3:24Speaker 1: than mud, Yet think of the glorious conceptions which it imprisons.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Take the mud of your present environment and thank God
- 3:36Speaker 1: for it, and make the image of the future you desire.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You can do it, you must do it. You will
- 3:47Speaker 1: do it. End of Section twenty six
