- 3:44take. This month is the 7th year kind
- 3:47of milestone. And with me today, I'm going to
- 3:50be bringing on some very special people to talk with me about
- 3:53stuff, some inspirers of the community, some supporters of

- 6:23Welcome ladies and gents. Thanks for being here.
- 6:28Thanks for having us. Good to be here all.
- 6:32Right. As always, happy to be here.
- 6:36Awesome. Well, I think while we're
- 6:39waiting for Patrick, Patrick is gonna gonna be trying to Co host
- 6:42with me tonight. He's just having some technical
- 6:43things, but that's the way it kind of goes sometimes you know
- 6:46you can't always sometimes you know it just it is what it is.
- 6:50And there he is. We see his face, but it's coming
- 6:53in and out. So while he's working on that,
- 6:55let's start with I don't know since since we'll just kind of
- 7:00go from the top row down to the to to to the bottom row here.
- 7:04So we'll start with Emilia. Would you like to introduce
- 7:08yourself and tell us a little bit about yourself all?
- 7:11Right, so my name is Amelia, I'm with River Pine Kindred.
- 7:16We've been around for almost 7 years now.
- 7:18Our anniversary is coming up in September.
- 7:20We work in the Arklatex area of Texarkana, TX and we host
- 7:26meetups in Texarkana as well as the Shreveport, LA area as well
- 7:32as we do live stuff online for the online community and we do a
- 7:37lot of community outreach with. We do you'll for the kids every
- 7:42year at our banquet that we have to give them gifts like jackets,
- 7:46shoes, backpacks, and we need things like that.
- 7:49And then we also do a school supply drive for the kids for
- 7:53back to school and everything, as well as we're working on
- 7:56pantry stuff. But as I said, we've been slowly
- 7:59working towards all these great things as well as our meetups
- 8:02that we host every month. And you can find us on YouTube,
- 8:08Facebook, Twitter and many of the other pages for platforms.
- 8:16That's great. Yeah.
- 8:17And everybody to in the description area below, whether
- 8:20you check it out now or later, just realize that everybody here
- 8:23does have some social medias or, or places where you can find
- 8:29and, and support what they do because they'll have their own
- 8:30things that they're doing. So definitely check the links
- 8:33down in the description below. There's, there's several of them
- 8:35for, for River Pine Kindred. So thank you again.
- 8:38Amelia's been a guest on the show before a couple of times, I
- 8:42think as I recall one pretty recently.
- 8:46But thank you for coming back and gracing us with your
- 8:49presence and talking about some heathen stuff.
- 8:51And, and thank you for everything that you do for the
- 8:54community in your area. Thank you.
- 8:56Thank you for having me. All right, next in line we have
- 9:01Mr. Matthew Sera, another previous guest and long time
- 9:05listener and and watcher of Midgard music.
- 9:08So Matthew, thank you for being here Sir.
- 9:10And would you like to introduce yourself and tell folks a little
- 9:13bit about you and what you do? Hi everyone, I'm Matt Sera.
- 9:18I've been acting my whole life and making music my whole life.
- 9:23And then I started walking this path since the high loon first
- 9:32Red Rocks ritual is when I started to really focus on this
- 9:36hardcore I guess. And since then, I decided to
- 9:41make try my hand at making Nordic folk music and have been
- 9:46doing so since then and have been having a great time doing
- 9:51that and gotten to do a couple workshops with the drummers from
- 9:57Hilung. One of which I got to talk to
- 10:00Jesse about, where we talked about how to make rhythms from
- 10:08the drum from the sounds of animals in nature.
- 10:12I think we focused on birds, but that's something I learned from
- 10:15Jacob Lund from Hilung. And yeah, I just, I'm happy to
- 10:20be here. And I've been watching Jesse for
- 10:22a couple years, and it's pretty cool to be on this anniversary
- 10:25podcast with them and everybody else here.
- 10:37Jesse, I think you might be muted.
- 10:39Look at you, man. Wait, Wait a wait a wait.
- 10:43Stay on, man. I'm glad you got this.
- 10:44I'm glad you got this under control 'cause you know, I need
- 10:48AI, need a, you ever watch Joe Rogan, right?
- 10:49He's got Jamie or whoever over there doing his, his side screen
- 10:52stuff like I need a Jamie in my life.
- 10:54You know, I need to clone myself and figure that part out.
- 10:56But thank you. But yeah, thank you Matthew for,
- 10:58for telling us a little bit about yourself.
- 10:59And yeah, he does have his music available, I guess on SoundCloud
- 11:04and on YouTube, which are linked down in the description below.
- 11:09So if you guys want to listen, we're actually going to hear
- 11:11something and see something of Matthew's musical prowess a
- 11:15little bit later on in the show somewhere we got something that
- 11:18we're going to share with you that he shared around and some
- 11:20of the the online groups and stuff.
- 11:23I know, but it's a it's, it's something that he that he did
- 11:28himself and I kind of helped with a little portion of
- 11:31collaboration effort. So it's great to have you here,
- 11:33Matthew, and thank you for for everything that you do.
- 11:36Thank you. All right, let's let me get a
- 11:41quick comment up here before we move on here.
- 11:43We got the philosophical Pitbull.
- 11:46I know who that is says hey folks, just wanted to stop by
- 11:51and say howdy, by the way, it's me, Chris.
- 11:53Yes, I know Chris and Congrats on the seven years.
- 11:56Thank you, Chris, and thank you for being here to watch and
- 11:59listen. Good to have you in the comments
- 12:01section there. Let's move over here to Mr.
- 12:06Blake Russell. Blake is a familiar face on the
- 12:09podcast, a familiar voice, I'd say.
- 12:14So, Blake, why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself for
- 12:16the folks that maybe don't know who you are, Sir?
- 12:19All right, I am, I am. My name is Blake.
- 12:21I'm a musician. I'm also a Reiki master, rune
- 12:26reader, multi instrumentalist, terrible vocalist, but I'm the
- 12:34sole proprietor of the of the music project Skaldic Works.
- 12:39And over the past three years or so I've been learning 3 or 4
- 12:46years. I've been learning the tackle
- 12:49Harper and perfecting it, and I also have given some brief
- 12:54lessons on on the instrument itself on my YouTube channel.
- 12:58I also have also been a heating since probably about 2013 and
- 13:04I've got the opportunity to work musically with well, study
- 13:11again, like Matt up here. I've also got the opportunity to
- 13:17meet and work with work with Jakob Loons from Halong, as well
- 13:22as with the I've gone, which I'm actually doing again this year
- 13:28here here locally. It's May the 9th and through on
- 13:33the 11th. So that's a big opportunity for
- 13:36me and I'm actually playing for that event by the way, but very
- 13:41cool and what we're but also there I have also a chance to
- 13:49meet and talk with Mathias North Northvig.
- 13:55Yeah, for. Sure.
- 13:56Yeah. And and Jackie Robert or Jackie
- 13:59Albert's who's also who is also engaged to I'm Yakko right now.
- 14:08So as of a couple months ago, I think it was the announcer
- 14:13engagement. But I guess they all came last
- 14:17year to the Ravely meetery and they're coming back again.
- 14:22And that's something I'm very well looking forward to.
- 14:27Thank you, Blake. Man, that's a, that's a that's
- 14:29quite the quite the introduction there that you and Matt here
- 14:34both have had had a chance to work with the members of Hilung.
- 14:38So that's pretty awesome. Also my music can be found.
- 14:42I get I have videos on YouTube, but I also have my music on on
- 14:47all your streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes,
- 14:56all the iHeartRadio, Pandora, everything.
- 15:00Awesome Yep, and Blake's got some.
- 15:03He's got a link tree also down linked below in the description
- 15:07area. So follow him on all his socials
- 15:09and and stay in tune with what he's got going on there.
- 15:14So thank you, Blake, for coming back on here and being a part of
- 15:16this as well. Thank you.
- 15:18And then we've got some. Patrick, can you hear us?
- 15:24Yes, I can hear you for now. OK, I don't mean to skip, but
- 15:28can I can? Can I get you real quick to
- 15:31share a little bit about you? I know you're you're no stranger
- 15:33to the show here, but for folks maybe just tuning in or learning
- 15:36about you, give us a little bit of about yourself there, Sir or
- 15:43not. I was afraid that was going to
- 15:46happen. I was trying to get them.
- 15:47I was trying to get them. I was trying to get them before
- 15:50there. I'll do my best here just to
- 15:52fill in my. Name is Patrick Walsh.
- 15:56I've been a friend of Jesse's for a few years now.
- 15:59Hopefully the audio is going through here, but I'm a huge
- 16:05high lung advocate, a follower, a fan, a friend.
- 16:14He's just an amazing man. Man, guy, I hate that man.
- 16:26Patrick, we can we, we were hearing you a little bit and you
- 16:29kind of dipped out. You still there?
- 16:33No. All right, well, guys, check out
- 16:38Patrick's group down there in the description area.
- 16:41I know a lot of people that watch my stuff already know who
- 16:43Patrick is. He was kind enough to try and
- 16:46work into his busy life, sort of Co hosting tonight's show and
- 16:50he's he's muscling through as best he can.
- 16:52Sometimes technology just doesn't like to play play nicely
- 16:56with us. So so show him some support His
- 16:59group is is the high lung tribe mental spiritual health whoop
- 17:03here he comes back. Let's try that one more time.
- 17:05You there. Sal's not coming through, I'm
- 17:07assuming. We can hear you can.
- 17:09You hear me? Yeah.
- 17:10Can you hear me? Yes.
- 17:14Probably not. We can hear you.
- 17:18You can hear me. No shit, and we can see you.
- 17:21Cool for now. So my name is Patrick Robert
- 17:24Walsh. I'm a huge Highland advocate.
- 17:29I made my own mental mental health support group for high
- 17:32lung. They give me a lot of
- 17:35inspiration, a lot of hope, but just as well as this wonderful
- 17:38man as Jesse who has made this page, Nick Art Musings.
- 17:43And I wish I had more time to share my story about this, but,
- 17:46and that's messed up. But Jesse and I go way back in
- 17:51time. I follow this channel on trying
- 17:56to perform a basic human ritual. And he lent inside to me when I
- 18:01need the most. A genuine creator, a man who
- 18:04stands by his deeds. He does what he does with
- 18:07sincerity and a great heart. And he is helping tremendously,
- 18:12more so than my immediate family.
- 18:13He is a man that inspires me every every day just as well as
- 18:18all my community supporters of High Lung.
- 18:21Outside that the he and the community and just us being us
- 18:25and learning to adjust to the current balls of life throws at
- 18:31us. To really accept our challenges
- 18:35and not fight against it. To really see ourselves and
- 18:39those harsh modes as well as those modes of blessings and
- 18:43fortune. And no matter what we do, we
- 18:47stamp our deeds, we are who we are, we love each other, we love
- 18:50ourselves. And that's the hard part
- 18:52sometimes, loving each, loving ourselves to really step outside
- 18:57of our ego and realizing that progress is not a pace,
- 19:02etcetera, sorry, progress is not a race, etcetera, our own pace.
- 19:06We live by our deeds, we do what we do, we offer what we can.
- 19:10And I'm very happy if the audio is going through right now.
- 19:13But guys, you know, Jesse is simply amazing, a man who's come
- 19:20a long way from its earlier content.
- 19:26He's just a great guy. Oh, man, Patrick, when you re
- 19:35watch this or when you re listen to this man, thank you and thank
- 19:40you for just really toughing it through.
- 19:42Man, this has got to be so listen, I know what it's like in
- 19:45in the frustration of battling technical, you know, stuff here,
- 19:51Michael Thacker, you know, he's he's he's like, you know, it
- 19:54wouldn't be a live stream without the technical
- 19:56difficulties. It's kind of it goes, you know,
- 19:58it's part and parcel. And I want to just say, you
- 20:00know, for everybody watching this on whatever platform, thank
- 20:03you for your patience and thank you just for being present to to
- 20:06understand that this is kind of how it goes.
- 20:08Sometimes thank you David Clinton watching it from
- 20:11Columbia, TN Congratulations. Thank you Sir.
- 20:16Tanya, what's up girl says hello everyone.
- 20:20We're going to be seeing Tanya with the Norse Fox creations
- 20:22this weekend in North Carolina at the Viking Experience along
- 20:27with her better half or other half Josh W.
- 20:31They both run the the Norse fox creation, so going to be great
- 20:35to see both of you again. Yes, deep and beautiful words
- 20:41from Patrick there. Tanya, thank you for for saying
- 20:44so. All right, so then I guess all
- 20:49we have left to do is to give the red carpet over to Mr. Eric
- 20:54Shervin, the word Weaver. Eric, over to you.
- 21:00Thanks, Jesse. Yeah, my name's Eric.
- 21:02Word Weaver, Shervin. Been heathen since what, 2006,
- 21:092007, something like that? I don't remember it was a long
- 21:14time ago. Govi of the Ridgari, which is
- 21:19the the Ridgar tribe here in the East Texas area.
- 21:24We founded back in 2010, I believe 2009, 2010.
- 21:29I'd have to look at the shirt in there.
- 21:30We found it at Lightning Across the Plains back in the day.
- 21:33So I I'd have to look at my first shirt and see what the
- 21:36date was. But I think it was 2010 and
- 21:40started up the YouTube channel around the same time as Jessie.
- 21:46I had started out doing both a storytelling thing and kind of a
- 21:50heathen one O 1 kind of deal. Yep.
- 22:02His journey, his intro into Heathenry and his pathway while
- 22:08I was, you know, the old seasoned heathen who'd already
- 22:11been doing it for a hot minute helping the newbies out.
- 22:15So he and I kind of tagged team back and forth there for a while
- 22:19now. My YouTube channel has been down
- 22:21for a little bit here. I had some life stuff that kind
- 22:24of got in the way and I haven't quite got the spoons to get it
- 22:27back going again. But I do have plans to revive
- 22:30here in the near future. Some of y'all know I've got a
- 22:33book out there, The Saga of Bjorn Thorleson.
- 22:37If you, if you're interested in it, go on Amazon, search my
- 22:39name. Super easy.
- 22:41And it's not a long book, but it's a storytelling book that's
- 22:45designed around heathen campfires, types, tales, each,
- 22:50each one is its own unique thing.
- 22:53And it kind of keeps alive the tradition of passing along world
- 22:58view and tradition through storytelling.
- 23:03Storytelling's a big thing for me.
- 23:04That's that's narrative is my drug.
- 23:07I am addicted to it. I live off of it and I, I, I'm
- 23:11not happy unless I'm creating it.
- 23:12So between, you know, D&D or writing books or whatever, I've
- 23:17always got something going on. So, but yeah, still here, still
- 23:21doing. Radgar is strong and alive and
- 23:25doing well. The East Texas Heathens is a
- 23:29meet up group that I host here in the East Texas area.
- 23:32Again, the same life stuff that kicked the YouTube channel kind
- 23:35of slowed down the meetups there, but we're about to kick
- 23:38those back off. So anybody who's kind of in the
- 23:41East Texas area may want to check it out on the facing book
- 23:47and see the link there. So Yep, that's me.
- 23:53Awesome, man. I'm so happy that you know you
- 23:56have weathered the storm and just if you want to maybe give
- 24:01some sort of insight to what Radgar means and why I say you
- 24:08know you have weathered. Sure, absolutely.
- 24:12The name Rydgar was originally the first two families that
- 24:16started. Rydgar was my family and my
- 24:20buddy Mike's and he was very heavily Anglo-Saxon and I am
- 24:25very heavily N Icelandic in our aesthetic.
- 24:28And so when we first formed the tribe, because we were blending
- 24:31these two two kind of approaches to Heathenry together, his, we
- 24:39used the name itself as an amalgamation of the two
- 24:41languages, Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse.
- 24:44Because the wreath is Old Norse for storm and gar is the old is
- 24:49the Anglo-Saxon term for spear. So we are the Storm Spear Tribe
- 24:54or the Children of the Storm, which lived through when the
- 24:59tornado came through and took the house with me in it.
- 25:04That's a long story. Anybody that wants that, that's
- 25:06on my YouTube channel too, The Storm Riders.
- 25:10Yeah, You didn't know that when you named.
- 25:12They gave the tribe that name that they would be really.
- 25:14All right. The gods would be like, all
- 25:16right, we'll see about that. You know, not a little bit of A
- 25:20and. One of the crazy things is, you
- 25:22know, I'll give the short version.
- 25:23We're out there watching the tornado come in and it's forming
- 25:28up on the back corner of my property and turn around, freak
- 25:32out, run inside. We had put up an offering to
- 25:35Thor on the altar, ran in, hunkered down, felt the storm.
- 25:40We didn't feel the storm pick us up.
- 25:41We felt it drop us, kind of like how the elevator goes down and
- 25:47slam the house down. I had to kick the doors open
- 25:49because we were off the brakes and everything.
- 25:51It turned out like one or two tie downs was the only thing
- 25:53that kept us from landing in the field next door.
- 25:56But there on the altar we offering to Thor big old beer in
- 26:00one of my steins should have been all over the place, spilled
- 26:04and knocked over, not a drop. No way.
- 26:08It was perfect. Yep.
- 26:10Yeah, the Thunderer was looking out for us that day for sure.
- 26:15Wow, that's incredible, man. Thank you for for sharing that.
- 26:18And yeah, thank you again for being here.
- 26:20And it's like, again, that, that seven years of, of us knowing
- 26:23each other, 'cause I'll say, you know, like I, I, I came across
- 26:25your content, you know, around the time of starting my channel.
- 26:28And therefore, I feel like that's when our acquaintances
- 26:33ship or whatever started, which then grew into a friendship.
- 26:37Like we have each other's phone numbers.
- 26:39We, we have yet to meet in person.
- 26:41It's like every time something comes around where we want to
- 26:44and something, it's something else comes up, but we don't, we
- 26:47don't force things right? Like it'll happen when it's
- 26:49going to happen. And in the meantime, we've got
- 26:52this. Yep, we got it.
- 26:54It's all good. Yeah, you know, so Tanya's is
- 26:58very excited to to, to, to see everybody next weekend.
- 27:01So are we and we got Kevin here says good evening, everyone from
- 27:06the Volgaseta lands. These are great folk up in the
- 27:12Illinois. I've had Kevin and I've had
- 27:15Chris Miller on the show. They're doing really great work
- 27:18up in the the Great Plains area. So good to see you here, Kevin.
- 27:25And who else we got here? We've got a posse house and KKK
- 27:30Matt K Cat. Sorry, K Cat.
- 27:32That's an inside joke that Hi K How you doing sweetie?
- 27:36OK, All right, so we got some Eric's people here then.
- 27:38Very good. All righty.
- 27:43Well, thank you everybody for your for your warm intros and
- 27:47giving us a little bit of insight into your respective
- 27:49lives. And I don't know, I think, you
- 27:53know, now that we've gotten this part knocked out, we're about 30
- 27:55minutes into the stream. There was, there was something I
- 27:59think I shared with everybody here a bit offline over the past
- 28:03week or so, just something that we could maybe jump off of in
- 28:09terms of conversation. This was a comment Michael
- 28:14Thacker, he he was watching on YouTube here earlier.
- 28:16He's probably still here. Hopefully he's also one of my
- 28:20Patreon supporters and he always comes up with these really good
- 28:25suggested topics. So for, for those of you that
- 28:27watch this live stream wherever you do, one of the best ways to
- 28:31get some suggested content in for the podcast is to when you
- 28:35join my Patreon community again, if you, it's a, it's a $1.00
- 28:39pledge. And so it's, it's nothing
- 28:41outrageous or, or, or silly in terms of money, but it's just a
- 28:44nice little way to, to help help fund the production costs and
- 28:48stuff. You get a chance to get that
- 28:49first voice in for, for podcast recommendations or topic
- 28:55suggestions. And one of one of Michael's
- 28:59recent suggestions was to I've been talking recently, I've had
- 29:04an episode or two really getting into the concept of luck from a
- 29:08heathen perspective. What does luck mean?
- 29:09And, and, and the, the concept of luck and how it's, you know,
- 29:13all of these metaphysical, you know, concepts and things that,
- 29:19that really embrace a heathen worldview.
- 29:22So, you know, you get into topics, you get into subjects of
- 29:25things like Orlay and, and weird and the Norni or the shapers.
- 29:30If you're, if you're continental Saxon, Germanic heathen type
- 29:33person, you know, the different names for the same things.
- 29:37So Michael's, Michael's question kind of as a follow up, I think
- 29:41to that was about how do we see the flow of luck happening in a
- 29:51tribal dynamic, meaning like how members of a tribe can affect
- 29:56the luck built up by the tribe and how luck is distributed
- 30:04throughout the tribe. Now this is a thing that if
- 30:08you're, if you're new to Heathenry, you know, I've done
- 30:15some podcast episodes. It's, it's a very deep subject.
- 30:18It's a, it's a deep, well to, to, to, to, to fall into, as it
- 30:22were the, the, the, the, the concept of luck because it, it
- 30:25goes into so much more. It goes into the soul complex.
- 30:28It goes into, you know, very heathen specific concepts.
- 30:36But I think it's an interesting thing to, to really bring up
- 30:38this idea of the flow of luck within a tribal dynamic and how
- 30:45that happens, how, how it's distributed, how it's, you know,
- 30:48shared what individual members can do that can impact or affect
- 30:54the, the overall group's luck. So we've got five people here,
- 31:02myself included. You know, we got four other
- 31:04people beside myself here that have in various ways embraced
- 31:09Heathenry into their life. Who wants to go first?
- 31:16Who wants to go first with this thought of, of how luck is, is
- 31:20distributed or, or, or affected within a tribal dynamic.
- 31:24Does anybody have a a voice they'd like to jump in and just
- 31:28raise your hand? I think raise your hand.
- 31:33I'm holding off, you know. Eric, I was going to say, you
- 31:37know, Yeah, Eric. Get it out of the way 'cause
- 31:40he's going to be so poetic about it.
- 31:43I don't know if I get going. First time here.
- 31:50Let's see. Seti the Red.
- 31:52First time here. Loki brought me to Heathenry
- 31:54recently. All right, Seti the Red.
- 31:55Well, thank you for being here for watching this 7th year
- 31:58anniversary live stream. We're going to get into some
- 32:00heathenry stuff. So enjoy and I hope you find
- 32:04this educational. So Eric, let's, let's let's
- 32:07start with you, Sir, since you know that this is kind of
- 32:10something OK in your wheelhouse. You're welcome, Eric.
- 32:21If this goes through, and if it catches up to itself, can you
- 32:25hear me? Yeah, we can hear you.
- 32:26You're you're freight. You're the framing is is frozen,
- 32:30but we can still. Yeah, I'm discovering that I am
- 32:33a little far away from my router, but that's OK.
- 32:35So when it comes to luck, Luck is one of the probably most
- 32:38difficult topics to discuss in Heathen Regis because it is so
- 32:43abstract and it deviates so heavily from what the
- 32:47generalized Western culture view of Heathen of Luck is.
- 32:51I like to differentiate the two with the lowercase L and the
- 32:54uppercase L because with us I always use the uppercase cuz I'm
- 32:59thinking of a luck as far as that element goes.
- 33:04Luck, So many factors, so many different areas to come at it
- 33:09with. From a tribal perspective, the
- 33:11Chieftain go the leadership level, is the seat of luck
- 33:16within the tribe. That is the repository wherein
- 33:19the luck settles within the tribe.
- 33:22The old idea of the hater of gold who would give gifts to his
- 33:25tribe, who sends blessings with his people, that's him bestowing
- 33:30elements of the tribal luck upon his people.
- 33:33Now in the olden days, a lot of times luck was associated with
- 33:36the wealth, the material gains that had been grown by the
- 33:40tribe. Therefore, like the king or the
- 33:43leader element would be that keeper of that and he would be
- 33:48able to give freely to the people.
- 33:51It's a reciprocity thing. The the Chieftain would dole out
- 33:57luck to the tribe and the deeds and actions of the tribe would
- 34:00feedback into the luck of the tribe as a repository.
- 34:05This is separate from individual family luck or what we would see
- 34:11as like there's family luck, individual look, which that's a
- 34:14whole different paradigm that deals with tying into the
- 34:17filgia, the family unit, and how that flow goes.
- 34:22The filgia serving is kind of a through gate for the luck from
- 34:27the ancestors and the norms into the individual.
- 34:31With tribal luck. There's a there's a number of
- 34:34terms that we use. Gefrane is one of them that's
- 34:37commonly accepted. It does come from the
- 34:40Anglo-Saxon side of terminology, but it's basically the
- 34:43reputation, the worth of your name in society, and it's kind
- 34:51of a measure of one's deeds, one's value, what they bring to
- 34:55the table. The more good things that we do,
- 34:58the stronger our Giffrain, the stronger our luck.
- 35:01Similarly, luck is fueled by Frith, and Frith and Giffrain go
- 35:06hand in hand. Frith is kind of within the
- 35:08tribe. Giffrain is what we have with
- 35:10the the luck that we build as a tribe is mostly fueled from
- 35:18within. As that Frith, we do with each
- 35:21other, we support each other, we take care of each other, and
- 35:24that's manifested through the tribe's ability to persevere.
- 35:28Good things just kind of happen to you, or at least you're
- 35:30better able to weather the rough stuff.
- 35:34One of the elements that, you know, we were talking about the
- 35:36tornado that took my house back in the beginning of the show.
- 35:40And one of the ways that my luck manifested itself at that time
- 35:44was that I was able to put a hauler out.
- 35:46And before you knew it, I had a dozen men and women who were
- 35:49here at the house ready to help us pack things out.
- 35:52And these weren't like all one friend group.
- 35:54It was from all of the different interactions that I'd had.
- 35:57And it, it definitely came through for me when I needed it
- 36:01in a pinch. So as far as the flow goes, the
- 36:04deeds and actions of the individual members of the tribe
- 36:06all feed in as they act in the name of the tribe.
- 36:09The tribe functions kind of similarly to the family unit in
- 36:12that instance, 'cause you know, within the family unit.
- 36:14The smallest divisible social structure within Heathenry was
- 36:17the sib. And anyone within the household
- 36:20that did anything did so in the name of the sib, in the name of
- 36:24the family, and the name of the roof, tree or hearth, depending
- 36:28on, you know, your terminology. And they would.
- 36:33The better they did, the more good deeds they did, the better
- 36:36a name they made for the family, the stronger that family's luck
- 36:39grew over time. It can of course, be squandered.
- 36:43It can be damaged by I'll deeds or by not showing value in
- 36:48reverence to that name. Same kind of thing happens with
- 36:52the tribe. You've got the individual
- 36:53members that either go out and do really good things in the
- 36:55name of the tribe and bring good strong luck to the tribe, which
- 36:58then rests in that repository that is the Chieftain, or they
- 37:04do bad things. And that's a drain on tribal
- 37:06luck. A lot of times when you see
- 37:09members or families that are cut away from a tribe is because of,
- 37:12you know, that there being a constant drain on the luck
- 37:16pouring poison into the well as it were.
- 37:20And for the audience, I, I'm a tribal heathen, so I use the
- 37:23term tribe. I realize that a lot of will use
- 37:25Kindred will use any number of names for their groups.
- 37:29Tribe is what I do. So that's just I, that's the
- 37:32paradigm that I'm working from there.
- 37:35So yeah, it's a reciprocity thing.
- 37:37The the members of the tribe bring luck in, feed it.
- 37:41The Chieftain also feeds the wellspring of luck that is at
- 37:46the center of the tribe. Think of him sitting at kind of
- 37:49a bubbling brook, a well where everybody's putting things into
- 37:52it, everybody's pouring water into this well.
- 37:55And then when it comes time that the tribe needs it, the
- 37:59Chieftain doles it out. The Gothi does the same thing
- 38:03with luck, but from a standpoint of ritual element, because it is
- 38:08the exchange of luck energies with the gods, goddesses.
- 38:11That is the religious side of things.
- 38:13So that wellspring gets fed from the divine, it gets fed from the
- 38:17cultural side of things, it gets fed from within the tribe
- 38:20itself. There's multiple different
- 38:22facets where it all comes in an individual that is like super
- 38:26drainy because they themselves have a negative luck that
- 38:30they're trying to make up for, and it's just kind of siphoning
- 38:33off of everybody around them becomes a drain on the luck for
- 38:36the tribe. But people that come in who are
- 38:38just really industrious and really work hard, really do good
- 38:42things, bring strong luck to the tribe, and that pours a lot into
- 38:47that Well, so yeah, sorry, that was a ramble.
- 38:51We good. That's what it's about.
- 38:55I expected nothing less. I'm passing the torch.
- 38:58Somebody else talk. I actually have a a question
- 39:02about this topic. So I'm new to this couple years
- 39:08and I'm still learning and I'm literally learning on this
- 39:12podcast. But when you originally posed
- 39:16the question, I started looking it up because I was a little
- 39:19confused about the the idea of luck.
- 39:23Evenry if there are nordnier schooled who?
- 39:30If everything's already faded, how can luck even have a play
- 39:35into the idea? And I see you talk.
- 39:41Talk to me, servant. Tap the button once.
- 39:46OK, things are not faded. The only thing that's faded is
- 39:49that we will live and we will die.
- 39:50The nonnier are the writers of our deeds.
- 39:53They, they, they, yes, they spin the length of our lives.
- 39:58They set the amount of lifespan that we have.
- 40:01But everything that we have between birth and death is ours
- 40:03to deal with. The gods gave us free will.
- 40:06They gave us. Divine madness that that old,
- 40:09that is the gift from old and that we use to craft, create,
- 40:13exist and just burn into this world with our existences.
- 40:17And the idea of predestination is not a heathen thing.
- 40:25Everything's malleable, everything shifts, everything
- 40:28gives. The only real instance that we
- 40:31run into with predestination is in the story of Ragnarok.
- 40:34Ragnarok itself is a questionable thing to add into
- 40:37the lore because one of the earliest instances that we
- 40:41actually have of the poem, the Boluspa was written by an
- 40:45individual who all indications are now is actually like the son
- 40:50of a Githya in Iceland or a law speaker or someone of that level
- 40:56of thing that would have just bathe this kid in the mythology
- 41:01from coming up. But it would it dates back, as
- 41:04best we can tell to around the time of conversion in Iceland.
- 41:09So the story itself is him literally watching the the
- 41:14battle of the breakdown where they were debating about going
- 41:19Christian as Iceland, you know, and, and doing away with the old
- 41:23gods. And that's what he's literally
- 41:24seeing. The the poem is pulling forward
- 41:29all of that imagery, pulling forward the, the spirit of the
- 41:33gods and the story and everything.
- 41:35But then the end that where we get into Ragnarok, where we get
- 41:37into the twilight of the gods, the fading off and then the
- 41:41death and rebirth under this one bright God in the end is that
- 41:46conversion to Christianity. So Ragnarok itself, there are
- 41:51elements that we can trace back to proto Indo European times,
- 41:55but it's it gets muddy. Ragnarok itself as a thing
- 42:00pretty much only exists therein and becomes questionable as to
- 42:05whether or not it's even really part of the mythos or if it was
- 42:09just the poetic ramblings of somebody who really knew their
- 42:13stuff. And so with that, that is one of
- 42:18the only times that we really have predestination.
- 42:20When you look at the word we're, I wish I could remember the name
- 42:24of the book. There's an excellent book that
- 42:25looks into this. I will have to see if I can dig
- 42:28it up again. But when you look at the term
- 42:32we're, as it appears in old text, it is most frequently tied
- 42:37with the term for death because that is really the only faded
- 42:42thing that's going to happen. We're born, stuff happens and we
- 42:46die. The stuff happens is all ours.
- 42:49The gods are gods of order. They created the world's out of
- 42:54the chaos of the Yolton, and the Yolton are constantly trying to
- 42:58return it to chaos, while Nidogg is constantly gnawing and is is
- 43:04trying to pull things into into entropy.
- 43:11He's an act of entropy. Yeah, I saw that pop up can be
- 43:17viewed as cyclic. There's a term in one of the
- 43:21translations of the Voluspa where it seems like this is the
- 43:2510th World Tree, but that's a bit of a stretch on.
- 43:28Translate, I was gonna, I was gonna just jump in and say like
- 43:31with with regards to Eric's point of, of the Ragnarok
- 43:34concept and and and and this and that.
- 43:36Like, yes, it, it, it does appear to be something that was
- 43:40introduced very late in Scandinavia specifically.
- 43:44There's, I don't think an equivalent of Ragnarok in
- 43:50continental Germanic myths. I don't think the Saxons had
- 43:54anything like this. I don't think the tribes of, of
- 43:56continental Germany of, of, you know, whether it was the Saxons
- 44:01or any of the other earlier tribes had anything quite like
- 44:04this. So it became something very
- 44:06specific to the far north when those customs migrated and when,
- 44:14you know, you had like the Danes and, and the Swedes and
- 44:16everybody starting to spread and, you know, into Norway.
- 44:21And then when, when, when Norway, when, when the people of
- 44:24Norway left and settled Iceland, You know, all this came in very,
- 44:30very much later on. I know in the Earth dwellers
- 44:34sagas that it talks about a go The Who is very prevalent in
- 44:39that area. And the way he did things, it
- 44:43brought him luck until in the end when he started making poor
- 44:46choices and I think a crop had failed one year.
- 44:50And so they they removed him as go the and replaced him with
- 44:57someone else, even though he had his wishes for everything in the
- 45:01end. But the way his luck ended in
- 45:04the earth oiler sagas, he tried his luck too much and didn't
- 45:08really live by his deeds. And it changed the structure of
- 45:13the storyline for the earth oiler sagas.
- 45:16And there's another example like you know, you think with Odin or
- 45:21Woden Woden eyes, whatever you want to call him as or Odin.
- 45:27And you know, you think Odin did all these things and you know,
- 45:34he tried his luck, even though the Syria told him his faith,
- 45:39the vulva and told him different things that would happen.
- 45:42But still he tried and tried his luck for wisdom and knowledge
- 45:47and for all these different things that he set out to do.
- 45:52And it shaped, you know, the austere and the vanier and the
- 45:56way everything happened in the end, even though, you know, to
- 45:59me fate is like a string. There's a beginning and an end
- 46:03to it. But what you do in the middle of
- 46:05those threads will cause it to fray, snap, or it'll cause those
- 46:09threads to bond together better to make something strong and
- 46:13malleable. But you know, also in the same
- 46:16time, if you read a piece of horse liver and you're talking
- 46:19about hocked in the good or hecked in the good, however you
- 46:23want to call him. You.
- 46:25Know in in his story of piece of the horse liver written by I
- 46:31can't remember it's John something I can't say his last
- 46:34name because he's from Iceland. He also talked about the story
- 46:39of the things that he did because, you know, he converted
- 46:42to Christianity even though he was a Heather in the beginning,
- 46:46as well as his spouse. And so in the end of his his
- 46:50life, he had worried about his luck, about how he lived by his
- 46:54deeds. And he was worried that he
- 46:57wouldn't go to heaven because he was a heathen beforehand before
- 47:02converting to Christianity. So he told his, you know, his
- 47:05men to hand him a sword because he had worried that he didn't
- 47:09know where he was going. You know, was he going to avoid
- 47:12or was he going to heaven or hell or was he going to Valhalla
- 47:16or was he going to, you know, be with his ancestors and, you
- 47:19know, another realm, you know, so to speak.
- 47:21And you know, Helheim and Ephelheim or whatever you want
- 47:23to call it, everybody calls it something different, but, you
- 47:26know, to the underworld or whatnot.
- 47:29But, you know, for him, he was worried, but the gods looked
- 47:32upon him because his brothers were already there and they
- 47:35decided to let him go to Valhalla to be with the slain,
- 47:39and the Valkyrie took him away. And so that shows the, you know,
- 47:43the dynamics of it and everything.
- 47:45And there's also one other saga from the Icelandic saga that
- 47:49talks about, you know, how the go the and how he raised his
- 47:53son. And so when his father passed
- 47:55on, he took on the luck of his father and he became the go the
- 47:59after that. So, you know, luck and, you
- 48:01know, the way fate is, Yeah, it kind of goes hand in hand.
- 48:04But also at the same time, you know, like.
- 48:08Yeah. And a tribe, so to speak.
- 48:11Yeah. The Gobi or the Giddy or
- 48:13Chieftain or Chief, just, you know, whatever lingo you want to
- 48:16use. Yeah, depending on the structure
- 48:19of how that person sets it up, as well as the tribe as a whole.
- 48:25Because you know, you know, to me, you know, it doesn't matter
- 48:28if it's a tribe, a marriage or friendship, you know, it's, it's
- 48:33like a box you have to put into the box to pull out of it.
- 48:37And that goes the same with luck and, you know, investing in
- 48:41things and doing different stuff.
- 48:42And if you're just sitting there constantly pulling out, like
- 48:44Eric said, you know that, well, you're sitting there pulling out
- 48:47of it all the time. You're going to dry it out.
- 48:49You're not going to have anything leftover because you've
- 48:51already pushed your luck and you haven't really given and put
- 48:54into that, you know, building and weaving Frith and, you know,
- 48:58building strong bonds to help your luck.
- 49:02You know, you think about us, all of us right now sitting here
- 49:04on this podcast, we built friendships together and luck
- 49:09have it. We're all on this podcast
- 49:11together on celebrating Jesse's seven years of Midgard's musing.
- 49:16So it's just, it just shows the dynamics of everything when it
- 49:20comes to, you know, luck and tribal and life in general and
- 49:24just people, people in general. Can I jump back in here real
- 49:28quick one? Well said Emily.
- 49:30Emily, that was fantastic. Back to the norms thing real
- 49:34quick. Just before we we ramble onto a
- 49:37different Part 1 of the big misconceptions, and this is
- 49:39something that needs to be cleared up for viewers and
- 49:41everything upfront. The norms are not the Fates.
- 49:44The Fates are a Greek concept. They the spinners of Fate.
- 49:49That is not, that's not a heathen thing.
- 49:51They do not correlate. Yeah, it's three and three and
- 49:54everything. It sounds great, but they are
- 49:55not correlate. It it doesn't work out that way.
- 50:00Urd is the keeper of that which has become schooled, is the
- 50:07keeper of those things that are becoming, those things that
- 50:09could be, should be. It's ephemeral.
- 50:12Her, her world doesn't exist. It's missed its shadow.
- 50:16It is potentiality. And then the Tandy's is weird.
- 50:21It is the here and now. It is the progression of
- 50:24potentiality into actuality. So the norms themselves actually
- 50:28represent what I like to call heathen causality.
- 50:31It's the vector of we are fed by what was or what has become
- 50:35through the choices that we make now, vectoring into the unknown
- 50:38that which could be. And again, I can ramble about
- 50:42the norms forever, but that's because I don't correlate them
- 50:46like a lot of people do. I actually see them as an
- 50:47extension of the mothers and that each family line has their
- 50:51own norms and that the schools are actually titles, roles that
- 50:58they play. Come on, Jesse.
- 50:59This, this kind of this kind of bleeds into what I personally
- 51:02believe is that luck is, is is is strongly, if not entirely
- 51:09carried within family dynamics, right?
- 51:13Familial lines. You, you speak of things like
- 51:16hummingya and and and and and whatnot like that is that is
- 51:19your luck. Like you have your own Hummingya
- 51:22and then the family has its own luck, which is a, a collection
- 51:26of the various parts of that, of that unit, right.
- 51:31So you, you talk about let this, this weaving of, of threads and,
- 51:37and the Nordoneer or the shapers.
- 51:39Is this the way like, you know, if you get into like continental
- 51:43Germanic, specifically Saxon Heathenry, it's it's they call
- 51:48them the shapers. They, they don't use the term
- 51:50Nordoneer. That's a very Scandinavian term,
- 51:52but it means essentially like the same thing.
- 51:55There they are the shapers. They, they have woven a thread
- 51:58and you and it's, it's your thread or their threads, you
- 52:02know, like the family's thread has its own thing.
- 52:04And then what the family members do in between is going to shape
- 52:07the rest of it. The, the, the, the, the, the
- 52:09arrival and the destination are set.
- 52:12You, you got here at one point, you're going to end here at that
- 52:14point. What happens in between is what
- 52:16we weave and what we do. So because of Heathenry being
- 52:22such a a tribally focused, you know, thing it it it thrives and
- 52:29I think it exists brightly and and best in a tribal setting
- 52:34where you have clans or families coming together and practicing,
- 52:41believing, venerating, worshipping, whatever in a
- 52:45agreed upon way. It is, it is that custom, it is
- 52:47that through it is that is that way of doing things that is
- 52:51specific to that family construct or the extensions of
- 52:55that family's beliefs. So it's very heavily, I believe,
- 53:01maintained or, or controlled, if you want to say through familial
- 53:08dealings. And as we know, like not all,
- 53:10you know, when I say family, I don't mean just, you know, your
- 53:12blood, your kin, like as as you were, you know, DNA wise.
- 53:16I mean family, even for for the dramatic people's was as much
- 53:22fostering. Wait, what's the adoption?
- 53:27Right. There was there was a lot of
- 53:28that going on in, in that culture too.
- 53:30So, so family meant more than just your blood relatives.
- 53:36And it was how those threads of those individual threads got
- 53:39interwoven into the family unit, the family dynamic that became
- 53:44the lock or the shared luck or fortune, if you want to maybe
- 53:48even call it that. I, I don't think you can quite
- 53:51translate the terms luck and fortune into the same thing.
- 53:53But it, it's not like happenstance, right?
- 53:55When we say luck from a heathen perspective, it's not I got
- 53:58lucky by, you know, a chance happening or something.
- 54:01It was through, through active things.
- 54:05It was, it was through work. It was through deeds was so this
- 54:07happened because somebody did this or didn't do this?
- 54:10Strong luck leads to good fortune.
- 54:13Strong luck. Yes, exactly.
- 54:14And that's how I translate it to is it's, you know, luck is not
- 54:17inherently good or bad. It's, it is what it is.
- 54:20And I and I spoke to somebody else and they are like, I don't
- 54:22really get the term luck so much as I, I, I use the terms or they
- 54:26related more to the terms orlay and main.
- 54:30So that that, that the orlay, the, the the, the primal layer,
- 54:33that that which was laid down 1st and then the main, the the,
- 54:36the might, the the, the spiritual strength.
- 54:40So you say strong luck that that that correlates and that that
- 54:44meets well and and to to to that concept, right.
- 54:47Yep. Would you say a simple word for
- 54:55it would just be your reputation?
- 54:58That's closer to Gifrain than it is to luck.
- 55:01Gifrain can feed luck. It can help to reinforce it.
- 55:05It can pour good things into the well, but luck itself is that
- 55:10store of spiritual energy that you draw upon when you need it.
- 55:15It is that which brings good things to the family, that
- 55:19brings good things to the tribe and perpetuates it.
- 55:21And it is through strong luck that we persevere.
- 55:25It manifests itself through things such as our reputation.
- 55:30And that is, again, everything is reciprocal.
- 55:33So you know, strong luck brings good good friend.
- 55:36Good good friend brings good luck.
- 55:39It all kind of feeds back and forth.
- 55:42When you have strong luck you're in a position where you can do
- 55:46things to like that Kevin. The the micros feed the macros,
- 55:50the Sib hearth feeds the clan, the clans feed the tribes, the
- 55:53tribes feed the community. Without enough of one, the rest
- 55:56will eventually fail in the region.
- 55:58Exactly it. There's a reciprocal
- 56:03responsibility between leadership, be it family or in
- 56:07the tribal setting to the the others, those under their their
- 56:13charges, if you will. But they also have a
- 56:16responsibility back to the leadership to do good things, to
- 56:18try hard to persevere for the tribe.
- 56:20And then the leadership's job is to look out for them, help to
- 56:23organize them and do the best they can.
- 56:25Everybody's working towards the same goal, but there's a
- 56:28feedback and forth, and this is the flow of luck.
- 56:32Just like we send luck to the gods whenever we give offering,
- 56:37the followers give luck to the tribe by feeding into it, doing
- 56:42things, bringing their energies to the tribe.
- 56:45Luck is just another form of energy.
- 56:47It's just that manifestation thereof.
- 56:49It's that well of it. You're going to see me come back
- 56:52to well as imagery a whole lot. Well norms, all of that all ties
- 56:56together because the role of the norms is to bring our stories,
- 57:01our deeds, our actions into the well and then use the clay from
- 57:04the well to feed Ingresil. It is that that that's that
- 57:09pathway for our offerings of luck to the gods.
- 57:12We we, we give into the well and the well feeds the tree and the
- 57:15tree takes it to Asgard and the cycle continues.
- 57:20So yeah, that's where our stack like we need to.
- 57:23Get to that tree aspect I was. Waiting for $1,000,000.
- 57:26I always. Like I was waiting for that
- 57:28tree, 'cause if you start talking about that tree, you'll
- 57:30be on it for about 20-30 minutes.
- 57:32I was waiting for it 'cause I love that.
- 57:34I love that view about it because I've always been, you
- 57:37know, even with like, you know, order and chaos, like sometimes
- 57:42order brings chaos and sometimes chaos brings order and it goes
- 57:46hand in hand. And also at the same time, you
- 57:48know, it takes a village to build something great to do
- 57:52something as a community because, you know, I tell people
- 57:54all the time when it comes to River Pine, I am not River Pine.
- 57:58Yes, I'm the founder. Yes, I know.
- 58:01I, I'm on the paperwork, but it's not me that makes River
- 58:05Pine. It's all of us in this community
- 58:07that makes River Pine what it is.
- 58:09The people who want to help 'cause, you know, people are
- 58:13always talking about, oh, we're, how are we going to raise money?
- 58:15How are we going to do this? And I'm like, listen, everybody
- 58:18has a role and we're going to build something great together
- 58:21to build that well for River Pine, you know, to to give to
- 58:25the community and everybody helps in their own way, even if
- 58:28it's just setting up a table or setting the food out or setting
- 58:31up the altar or the activities for the kids or, you know,
- 58:35checking that the post on Facebook while I'm sitting there
- 58:38talking to new people or, you know, getting stuff out of my
- 58:42car. You know, everybody has a role.
- 58:43Like I'm not the most important person in River Pine.
- 58:47We are the most important people in River Pine as a whole.
- 58:51And people forget that because they think, you know, oh, the
- 58:53goatee and the give you, yes, I am important because I did
- 58:56schedule the event. River Pine did put it together.
- 59:00But at the same time, people forget that we all play a hand
- 59:04and how our events will go on the luck of it, how it will go.
- 59:08And I think a lot of people forget that, that it takes a
- 59:12village to build something great.
- 59:14I always tell my people if they ever get tired of me, they can
- 59:16just throw me in the well, like the old kings.
- 59:20Not everything is around me, but bug into the bug.
- 59:26One of the things that we come back to is again that leadership
- 59:29role and the flow of of luck within the tribe.
- 59:32The leader is the seat of luck within the tribe.
- 59:35That is that central point. And they they serve as a guiding
- 59:38factor. But without the rest of the
- 59:40tribe, there's nothing to guide, Nothing happens.
- 59:43You can stand there and. Scream.
- 59:44Orders from the hill and nothing's going to happen.
- 59:47Yeah. Exactly.
- 59:49The the leader leads by consent of the rest of the tribe.
- 59:52They're just chosen. It's like my people could
- 59:54replace me at any time. Yeah, Mark, Mark Stinson did a
- 1:00:00really great job years ago with a a collection of essays which I
- 1:00:05believe are still available on Temple of Our Heathen Gods.
- 1:00:11I think that's the way I think. The URL is heathengods.com.
- 1:00:14It is called Temple of our Heathen Gods on this on the
- 1:00:17banner that it's just heathengods.com.
- 1:00:19Yeah, a wonderful collection of essays with, you know, the, the
- 1:00:24role of the modern Chieftain, the role of the modern Goldie,
- 1:00:27the role of the modern Thule, you know, and all the various
- 1:00:31different things that that kind of encompass heathenry in a
- 1:00:37modern day context within North America.
- 1:00:42Cuz Mark, Mark was, was very pivotal, if not foundational
- 1:00:48with like lightning across the plains.
- 1:00:50Eric, I think you you know Mark probably personally, right?
- 1:00:53Yeah, yeah, I've known Mark for a long time now.
- 1:00:55There was some drama around Mark and the Yelten's Bane Kendra
- 1:00:59there towards the end of Lightning Across the Plains.
- 1:01:02So there may be some cringe reactions from some of the
- 1:01:06people in the audience if they knew him.
- 1:01:08But I knew him. He was a good guy when I knew
- 1:01:11him and and interacted with him. I had nothing bad to say about
- 1:01:14Mark from that. And he did.
- 1:01:16He had he had heathen gods. There was heathen tribes was the
- 1:01:24second book that you remote it's.
- 1:01:25A collection of essays I have, I have AI, have AI printed off
- 1:01:28it's, you know, however many hundreds of pages of, of, of
- 1:01:31collections of essays. But it's it, it very well put
- 1:01:35together, very well researched and and it fits I think well in,
- 1:01:38in terms of anybody interested in really trying to approach
- 1:01:44Heathenry from a tribal contract construct.
- 1:01:48Right. It, it does have some jumping
- 1:01:50off points and it's very good. I, I leery to lean too heavily
- 1:01:54into advocating 1 particular book over another just simply
- 1:01:58because there's so many different ways to go at it.
- 1:02:00And the thing about that, it is very representative of Midwest
- 1:02:03heathenry. I've noticed there are some
- 1:02:06strong differences between coastal areas north-south and
- 1:02:10then of course generalized Midwest and kind of approaches
- 1:02:13the heathenry and structuring that I think have a lot to do
- 1:02:17with cultural heritages that are perpetuated in those spots.
- 1:02:22That brings up a really good point too, Eric.
- 1:02:24Well, it's kind of Heathenry is, you know, it's it's it's so Hey,
- 1:02:30Bradley, boss, I'm glad you can make it.
- 1:02:34Trip ran longer than I thought. Well, glad you could glad that
- 1:02:37you could hop in and and catch what we're doing here.
- 1:02:41But real quickly, you know, you bring up that I think an
- 1:02:45important point with regards to, you know, reading some of that
- 1:02:48stuff that Mark put out like, yes, it's a collection of
- 1:02:50essays. It's maybe not necessarily one
- 1:02:52book. It's, it's contributed by
- 1:02:54various different people, but from a very centralized or
- 1:02:57specific region of the land. I've, I've spoken many times
- 1:03:03before about how, you know, heathenry in North America has
- 1:03:07to, and even if we see this in Europe too.
- 1:03:08I mean, the, the, the heathenry of continental mainland Germanic
- 1:03:15places was, was what it was. And then as it migrated and as
- 1:03:19it moved it, some of it came with the people and it changed
- 1:03:24and it adjusted based upon the geographical landscape.
- 1:03:29And I, and I used the concept of like, OK, well, just because
- 1:03:32you're heathen in North America, that doesn't mean that, you
- 1:03:34know, heathens in South Florida are going to do things the same
- 1:03:38as heathens in Oregon who aren't gonna do same things as heathens
- 1:03:42in, in, in, in Texas or, or Arkansas or New York or tennis
- 1:03:47center, You know what I mean? Like it's, it's, it's gonna,
- 1:03:50it's gonna, the spirit of the land is going to quite often
- 1:03:55inform how, or at least I believe it should, you know,
- 1:04:00inform how your heathenry is, is, is, is being executed or
- 1:04:05practiced, right. So you can't just lump it all
- 1:04:07into one giant category. And it's not a one-size-fits-all
- 1:04:13sort of a thing, right? So.
- 1:04:18Yes, regionalization is a huge thing.
- 1:04:20I mean, just look at the fact that one of the pillars of
- 1:04:24Heathenry, OK, whoever's doing the the, the bingo game, get
- 1:04:28ready to click off another box. There's four pillars to
- 1:04:30Heathenry. There's the religious, there is
- 1:04:33the spiritual, there's the cultural, and there's the
- 1:04:36philosophical. The religious is our interaction
- 1:04:38with the divine, our interaction specifically with the gods and
- 1:04:41goddesses, the spirituals, our interaction with the Veitier,
- 1:04:44our ancestors, the unseen. That's still part of the profane
- 1:04:47world. The gods, the sacred, that's all
- 1:04:50in the religious side. Our interaction with the sacred,
- 1:04:53our interaction with the unseen profane is the spiritual side.
- 1:04:56Our interaction with each other is the cultural side.
- 1:04:58And our understanding of how the world works.
- 1:05:00That's the philosophical side. That's luck, that's orlog,
- 1:05:03that's things like that. So regionalization 1, the
- 1:05:09cultural element, the people that we interact with us, we are
- 1:05:13informed by the places that we come from.
- 1:05:15That's that feeds into our orlog.
- 1:05:18Similarly, the vets here that we interact with are very
- 1:05:21different. The vets here that I deal with
- 1:05:23down here in Texas are going to be different than what they deal
- 1:05:26with in California or Minnesota or you know, especially Norway
- 1:05:30and Iceland. Very, very different, right.
- 1:05:34So regionalization, big thing. Yeah, and that's all.
- 1:05:38For books in Scandinavia, there is certain books over there that
- 1:05:44has not been translated into English that we don't have
- 1:05:48access to, unless you could speak, you know, the language
- 1:05:51over there in Scandinavia 'cause there's books that they have
- 1:05:55that still hasn't been published over here in America.
- 1:05:58Sure. Well, you know, and I go, I
- 1:06:01always go back to it. It's like, you know, where we
- 1:06:03are, heathens in North America, Everybody here in this audience
- 1:06:06right now, at least on the panel, not, not excluding
- 1:06:09listeners and viewers. I'm sure I've got people from
- 1:06:12many different places, whether they're watching live now or
- 1:06:14catch this later. You know, that's where you run
- 1:06:18into the, the whole challenge or the OR the the the difficulty of
- 1:06:22generalizing heathering into the sort of universal approach.
- 1:06:24Well, you can't because again, the spirit of the land is going
- 1:06:28to be different. You don't, you know, Veytir is a
- 1:06:30term that is very unique to Scandinavia.
- 1:06:33Whites is the term of the old English and and Germanic
- 1:06:37speaking countries of continental lands.
- 1:06:39And then you come over here and it's, you know, does that, does
- 1:06:43that translate to the, to the, to the spoken or the, to the
- 1:06:45acknowledged language of the spirits of the land which reside
- 1:06:50here in North America? You it's the regionalization,
- 1:06:56the familiarity and, and getting to know and communicate well
- 1:06:59with that. It was it was as much a part of
- 1:07:02our ancient ancestors lifestyle as as the gods were, if not even
- 1:07:07more that you know, they, they were very in tune with the land
- 1:07:12and it was such a big part of of their daily practices, probably
- 1:07:17even more so than the gods on a larger scale.
- 1:07:23Art Ghibli, you know. This all fades into.
- 1:07:26Can I check off another box on the bingo thing?
- 1:07:29Please, I'm I'm checking my boxes off over here.
- 1:07:32I've almost got bingo. There you go.
- 1:07:34This one might get it for you. There's no such thing as Greater
- 1:07:36Heathenry. There it is.
- 1:07:38There is no such thing as greater heathenry.
- 1:07:41Heathenry exists at a tribal level.
- 1:07:43It's it's grass roots up, not top down.
- 1:07:46There is no overarching heathenry That No 2 tribes do
- 1:07:49things the same way. No2 regions ever did things the
- 1:07:52same way. Heathens in the old world didn't
- 1:07:55even worship the same gods half the time.
- 1:07:57They had different names for them, they had different takes
- 1:08:00on them. You know, while we can correlate
- 1:08:04Thorentuno and Doner, they're not exactly the same.
- 1:08:08People saw things a little bit differently, enough that, you
- 1:08:11know, a heathen from, you know, southern Germany may not be even
- 1:08:15able to talk to a Norse heathen if they had the same language
- 1:08:20because things just were so different by region.
- 1:08:24But that's tribal heathenry. There's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:08:27So when people talk about culture and belief structure,
- 1:08:29you got to understand we're not trying to fit into like the big
- 1:08:33book religions where it's like this is the picture of the
- 1:08:35religion that is set out of the book.
- 1:08:38We have this picture look like this.
- 1:08:40Do this thing, follow this doctrine.
- 1:08:42No, he. Agrees to another topic though.
- 1:08:46Eric, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you though.
- 1:08:47What? You got.
- 1:08:50But that also leads to another topic and a lot of people have
- 1:08:53thought it interesting when I mention it.
- 1:08:55So when you hear about Arminius or Herman and they talk about
- 1:09:01the Germanic tribes and everything and how they were all
- 1:09:04doing different things from what was wrote in that time period,
- 1:09:09from what Tacitus wrote and from what other people wrote about,
- 1:09:13You know, when it came to the Totenberg or the in the Black
- 1:09:19Forest and everything, the battle out there with the Roman
- 1:09:22Legion. And when Herman brought all of
- 1:09:25them together, you know, each and every one of them was doing
- 1:09:29something different. And they didn't really like one
- 1:09:31another, but they knew they had to band together, you know, to
- 1:09:35defeat the Roman Legion. But still, even in the end, they
- 1:09:39broke apart because they didn't want, you know, centralized
- 1:09:44power with one person. Each tribe wanted to have their
- 1:09:47own individual thing that led to their downfall in the end
- 1:09:56because they couldn't come together to build something
- 1:09:59great, even though they were building something great
- 1:10:02individually. Because one of the things that
- 1:10:04I've noticed over the years, I'm not trying to be negative or
- 1:10:06nothing, but you know, each kindred is doing their own thing
- 1:10:09or tribe. And I've always noticed that
- 1:10:12somebody always has the remark to say about someone else.
- 1:10:15They don't like what they're doing or they don't like their
- 1:10:17background. And you know, to us like the way
- 1:10:20to. Check off another book.
- 1:10:22Not my hall, not my call. Dude, exactly.
- 1:10:25But at the same time, you know, but for me, it's like, you know,
- 1:10:29I always hope that everybody can come together, even though our
- 1:10:31difference is, yes, there are hard lines that are no, thank
- 1:10:34you. I won't hang out with them
- 1:10:36because of this, that or the other.
- 1:10:38But to me, at the same time, it's like we're almost
- 1:10:41reflecting back to the time of the Germanic tribes.
- 1:10:44You know, if we don't come together in some form or
- 1:10:47fashion, we can't build something great.
- 1:10:49Like, yeah, like this podcast we're having right now
- 1:10:52celebrating Jesse's seven-year. We have a safe space here where
- 1:10:56we may not have that in other places that we go to from
- 1:10:59unfamiliar tribes or Kindred's or, you know, how their view and
- 1:11:02belief structure is and stuff like that.
- 1:11:05But you know, time and time again I see that, you know,
- 1:11:08yeah, luck plays a big role on how we weave Frith.
- 1:11:11But also at the same time, like if we can't find a a happy
- 1:11:16medium amongst the tribes and kindreds and stuff like that,
- 1:11:21how do how do we really keep weaving Frith to build something
- 1:11:25greater than ourselves? I mean, technically speaking,
- 1:11:28we're not weaving Frith with the other tribes.
- 1:11:30We're really weaving. Praying individually in.
- 1:11:34Different ways. Now, what you're talking about
- 1:11:36is Thing, yeah, the disparate tribes coming together in a
- 1:11:40common, a common forum to talk it out because the different
- 1:11:46regions of Iceland didn't all do things the same way.
- 1:11:49So they all came together at Thing Thing Veler and had it
- 1:11:53out. They had an agreed upon set of
- 1:11:56laws that the law speaker would set out and be like, all right,
- 1:11:58I'm going to arbitrate. They weren't a ruler of any
- 1:12:01kind. They were just an arbiter in the
- 1:12:02different moderator sections. Yeah, they would sit here and go
- 1:12:05all right, have it out. You're not allowed to bring
- 1:12:08weapons because y'all going to get stabby.
- 1:12:11So sit and talk it what you got. Yeah, yeah, yeah, very good
- 1:12:17point. Like in in the Saxon tattoo,
- 1:12:19right. They had thing at Marklow every
- 1:12:22year. There's some really great
- 1:12:25articles out there if you guys want to know about thing and how
- 1:12:28the dramatic drives. You know, it it it did it, it,
- 1:12:30it moved up to to the Scandinavian Norse regions,
- 1:12:36Iceland. Still to this day, their
- 1:12:38parliament is called the all thing.
- 1:12:42And so I'm going to I'm going to not try to I'm going to I'm
- 1:12:46going to do it arbitrate. I'm going to moderate a little
- 1:12:49bit here. Michael Thacker a little while
- 1:12:53ago had brought up a comment on family luck.
- 1:12:58He says can one who has affected the luck bad enough to be
- 1:13:03expelled from a hearth still put a drain on the clan slash
- 1:13:09hearth? Like As for example a child or
- 1:13:14parent being disowned? That's a really good question.
- 1:13:21Outlaw. Outlaw recasts them out of the
- 1:13:25Oath web. It casts them out of the Luck
- 1:13:27web. When they are made Outlaw, they
- 1:13:30are cut off from it. If the cause.
- 1:13:34That thing about an outlawry is it has to be made public.
- 1:13:39It has to be hate. This is not one of us anymore.
- 1:13:45This person has been disavowed. They have been disowned, so they
- 1:13:48are then cut off from that luck. It happens both at a tribal
- 1:13:53level and it can happen at a family level.
- 1:13:55The problem is that there is an element of orlog that cannot be
- 1:14:02completely cut, completely tethered.
- 1:14:06Everybody can know that so and so was disowned from the family
- 1:14:09and is therefore, you know, outlawed.
- 1:14:11But outlawry itself was a a cultural thing at a tribal
- 1:14:14level. So yeah, there can still be some
- 1:14:18feedback, there can still be some loop back and it's a
- 1:14:24different yeah than it used to. Be Yeah, it was already there.
- 1:14:27Like you can't take out what's been poured in.
- 1:14:29Right. And it's honestly kind of a
- 1:14:31different. You can drain the luck, but more
- 1:14:36likely the better metaphor is that the deeds and actions we
- 1:14:41put into the well affects the quality of the water that we can
- 1:14:45pull from the well. The well never fully depletes,
- 1:14:48but we can muddy it, we can dirty it, we can pollute it so
- 1:14:51much that the only thing you can pull out of it is poison.
- 1:14:54And if a person keeps pouring poison in, then the water turns
- 1:14:58and it becomes unusable. We, as the other members feeding
- 1:15:05into the well, try to feed good, clean water back in to dilute
- 1:15:08that damage. And so, yeah, a person can
- 1:15:11continue to pour poison in the well, but there are some
- 1:15:15mitigating things that can be done and we can pour better,
- 1:15:20better energy back in there. And I don't want to gloss over
- 1:15:22that white comment if we can come back to that, because I do
- 1:15:25have a whole thing on that. OK, yeah, we can definitely come
- 1:15:28back to that. And I didn't want to.
- 1:15:30I was mainly putting it up there so I could see what what Kevin
- 1:15:33had to say because I I admire Kevin's feedback.
- 1:15:36I have had him on the podcast Bigger sled to him and Chris
- 1:15:39Miller are doing good things up there in Illinois.
- 1:15:44So how are you doing, Blake? And and Matt, I know we've been
- 1:15:49kind of rambling and on and it's also 15, almost 20 minutes past
- 1:15:54the hour. Are you guys and gals OK?
- 1:15:58Yeah, we're we're OK. We're just, I just try to keep
- 1:16:00up and everything they're kind of saying, they're kind of
- 1:16:03saying pretty much what Erica's saying.
- 1:16:05Pretty much what I'm thinking all together, especially with
- 1:16:09the whole family luck thing is you can.
- 1:16:13Yeah, it can be the lewd, but you can also, you can also be
- 1:16:18given with. You can actually work with what
- 1:16:20you've been given as well. Work with what we've been given,
- 1:16:25right? The luck we've inherited that's
- 1:16:28that's a valid observation. I don't know if we've really
- 1:16:32covered that aspect of it, but yeah, there's definitely things
- 1:16:35that have come down to us through Orlay, right?
- 1:16:39Or that have been added to that, to that primal layer that that
- 1:16:42we end up with. You can't change that.
- 1:16:45Yeah. You know.
- 1:16:48Yeah. And again, as I said, if you
- 1:16:50have to drink the dilute the the, the, the polluted water,
- 1:16:55then you probably have to live with dysentery for a while.
- 1:16:57But then, then eventually you put back good water back into
- 1:17:02it. Cleaner water.
- 1:17:04It dilutes it. Yeah, the sediment settles,
- 1:17:10right? The muck, you know, but that's
- 1:17:13the part of like, that's the whole thing, right?
- 1:17:14The well is constantly being disturbed through needs, right?
- 1:17:19Things are constantly being added to it.
- 1:17:21So the more good you add to it, the less that that muck has to
- 1:17:25control or, or to govern or to to influence.
- 1:17:29So it, it's heavier stuff that gets added to the bottom.
- 1:17:35And it's it's a memory. It's a it's a, it's a whisper
- 1:17:38of, of a, of a thing. I go, wow, yeah, that happened.
- 1:17:42Yeah. We're always, we're always
- 1:17:44shaped. We're all, we're all shaped by
- 1:17:46the deeds of those who've come before us as well.
- 1:17:49Well. I'll tell you what, Here's what
- 1:17:54I'd like to do because we do have a lot of comments.
- 1:17:56I see Kevin's comments, Bradley set the red and and then even
- 1:18:01Wild Heathen Wolfpack, which is based up in Alaska.
- 1:18:04We've got some comments that are kind of sitting in the queue
- 1:18:05that I'd really like to get into.
- 1:18:08But one of the things that I was wanting to do, we have Matt
- 1:18:13Sarah here. And I mentioned early on in the
- 1:18:15show that Matthew worked on a project and worked on something
- 1:18:23with, with regards to his, his musical talent that I kind of
- 1:18:27sort of helped him a little bit with just visually,
- 1:18:31artistically, as it were. What do you, what do you all say
- 1:18:34about we take about a 3 1/2 minute.
- 1:18:41Yeah, about a 3 1/2 minute. Stretch your legs, stand up, use
- 1:18:46the restroom, get your drink, whatever it is, kind of
- 1:18:48intermission. And during that time, showcase
- 1:18:52this this piece of work that Matthew has produced musically
- 1:18:58and visually. What do you guys say to that?
- 1:19:01Bring it on, Sounds. Great.
- 1:19:03All right, So what we're going to do folks, so that you're
- 1:19:07listening while we're watching this live stream here, Matthew,
- 1:19:09Sarah worked on something that we're going to showcase to you
- 1:19:12now. It is called Matthew.
- 1:19:14You want to just talk a little bit about this before I roll the
- 1:19:17red carpet out or, or, you know, put this out here for people.
- 1:19:21What? What is this that we're about to
- 1:19:22listen and watch? So this is my not I I don't know
- 1:19:28if I should say my version of the Ru Natal, but I for the
- 1:19:34first time I've been in my genesis of making this music.
- 1:19:37I've always had to use software instruments just because I
- 1:19:40haven't had the real instruments.
- 1:19:43And for the first time, I, I recently got this Kravic liar
- 1:19:48and I also have a bouquet horn as well.
- 1:19:52And I wanted to make a song with just that and not having to use
- 1:19:58this Asgard sampler from Dannheim.
- 1:20:01And as I was writing this song, I was thinking of I, I never
- 1:20:06really sit down and say like, I'm going to write a song today
- 1:20:09and this is what it's going to be about.
- 1:20:11I wait for that. Type of the, the I guess the the
- 1:20:15music to come to me and I just put it down and then as I'm
- 1:20:19doing it and listen to it, then I think, oh, this is what I
- 1:20:21think it's going to be about. This is what I want to do.
- 1:20:24So I decided to use the runatal for this song, 138 and 139 and
- 1:20:32try to tell a little bit of a story with that, which is
- 1:20:35something that was interesting that you said a lot earlier in
- 1:20:39the podcast. Eric, is, is you're really about
- 1:20:42storytelling. And I, I, I actually did
- 1:20:45something before this with the Volubspoke where I wanted to do
- 1:20:50it in a way where I was telling a story as opposed to just
- 1:20:53singing it. So that's something I wanted to
- 1:20:56do a little bit with this track as well.
- 1:20:59So this is my first fully organic instrument Nordic folk
- 1:21:04song. All right, well, I'm excited to
- 1:21:09showcase it here. Matthew, thank you for producing
- 1:21:14this and and giving all of us here and the viewers today a
- 1:21:17chance to see this if you haven't seen it yet.
- 1:21:20So this is again, this is Matthew Sarah's rendition of
- 1:21:24some stanzas from the Hava Mall, the Runitol section of the Hava
- 1:21:27Mall. We're going to take a quick
- 1:21:29break and let you all kind of watch and listen to this.
- 1:21:33When we come back, we can follow up and hear your feedback about
- 1:21:37it and then we will pick up on the comments from Kevin and Wild
- 1:21:42Heathen, Wolfpack and everybody else here.
- 1:21:45So thank you all for listening and watching this stream up to
- 1:21:48this point. Don't go anywhere unless you're
- 1:21:51just going to the bathroom or something.
- 1:21:52You know, definitely get up, stretch your legs, get the blood
- 1:21:54flowing and all that. But here we go.
- 1:21:57This is Matthew Sarah's rendition of Runitol and you're
- 1:22:01watching the seven-year anniversary live stream of
- 1:22:06Midgard Musings. We'll see you all here shortly.
- 1:23:11The. The.
- 1:25:06The. The.
- 1:25:40All right, folks, welcome back. Wow, Matt, I mean, I'm impressed
- 1:25:47with the, the production. The, the, the sound was, you
- 1:25:52know, the audio, I mean like the, the audio recording of it.
- 1:25:55These are all these are all your own instruments, right?
- 1:25:59Yes, they are. And it's your voice.
- 1:26:03Obviously, you took the time to do your best to learn the, the,
- 1:26:10the medieval reconstructed sound of what Old Norse would be, you
- 1:26:15know, reciting these stanzas. Bravo.
- 1:26:19Really well done. Yeah, I, I mean, I loved it.
- 1:26:22I'm not trying to be biased or anything like that.
- 1:26:23What did everybody else think? Very nice.
- 1:26:27Thanks. He's a very nice.
- 1:26:30It's very nice. It's very, very nice now.
- 1:26:32I loved it dude, it was. Fantastic, I.
- 1:26:34Love it. The the lilt, the the feel of
- 1:26:37it. Yeah, fantastic.
- 1:26:40Well done. I think, I think he's taking, I
- 1:26:44think he's taking commissions too, Eric.
- 1:26:46So if you need some new like music for your channel or
- 1:26:48something. Getting the channel going back,
- 1:26:50we may talk just. Saying I really, I like to focus
- 1:26:56a lot on pronunciation and I was really, I was watching Jackson
- 1:27:00Crawford a lot and trying to really get everything right.
- 1:27:04I think I might have instead of, I might have said nater instead
- 1:27:10of nater, nater Al Arnieux. But I don't know.
- 1:27:16I, I, I, I, it's something I really do care about.
- 1:27:18And, and there's been songs in the past that I've made mistakes
- 1:27:22on, but I, I, I'd rather leave it up there to show that I've
- 1:27:28made a mistake and I'd own up to it and try to continue to get
- 1:27:33better as opposed to like, if I were to do something wrong, take
- 1:27:35it away to make it look like I never did anything wrong.
- 1:27:37Because I'm a work in progress, you know, I'm learning.
- 1:27:40I'm, I'm, I want to be, you know?
- 1:27:44Well, you know, I was a when it when it comes to languages and
- 1:27:47and linguistics, like especially when you're learning by and
- 1:27:52large, you know, for all intents and purposes, dead languages,
- 1:27:55right? Because who's speaking Old Norse
- 1:27:56nowadays? The Icelanders are probably
- 1:27:58speaking as close to what Old Norse was, but their, their,
- 1:28:03their pronunciations are different, right?
- 1:28:06So it's not Old Icelandic, it's modern Icelandic.
- 1:28:08I was talking to a linguist recently asking them if like,
- 1:28:13let's say, for example, somebody who was speaking Old Saxon in
- 1:28:18the time when Old Saxon was spoken, would the Franks
- 1:28:22understand it or would it be foreign to them?
- 1:28:26And like, like what he had told me he was like, imagine, you
- 1:28:31know, somebody from Minnesota talking to somebody from
- 1:28:34Louisiana. They'd get the gist of it and
- 1:28:36they'd know the majority of what they're saying.
- 1:28:39But it's, it's regional inflections.
- 1:28:41It's, it's, you know, accents and things like that.
- 1:28:45So the languages are so similar. And when I hear like, you know,
- 1:28:49a North American, you know, dude from Pennsylvania or Maryland
- 1:28:53or, or, or, you know, whatever, you know, like I'm from New
- 1:28:56York. I live in Tennessee.
- 1:28:57I'm sure that my English sounds different to the Tennesseans
- 1:29:00because I'm from New York. I have a New York accent, you
- 1:29:03know, just like Eric's Texan accent is going to sound a
- 1:29:06little bit different than Amelia, you know, Amelia's
- 1:29:10because she's somewhere else of in that same area, but just
- 1:29:12slightly different. You know, we, we get each other,
- 1:29:14we know each other, but there's that slight difference of
- 1:29:17accents and inflections. And I feel like when you're
- 1:29:20doing things like you're doing that, the, the spirit of it is,
- 1:29:25is being captured. But you get that little like, Oh
- 1:29:27yeah, you know, that that's that, that dude's not from here.
- 1:29:29But I I appreciate it and I get it.
- 1:29:31Yeah, actually someone with my last voila spoiled.
- 1:29:37Someone actually commented. I can tell you're from North
- 1:29:40America, but like, good job, bro.
- 1:29:43And I was like, oh shit, like I get that's really exactly what
- 1:29:47you just said. Like senpai noticed me.
- 1:29:50Yeah, I just, I want it, you know, I might not be perfect,
- 1:29:53but I want to show that I am putting effort, you know, I'm
- 1:29:59not just. Well.
- 1:30:02I shouldn't, I shouldn't say the artist's name, but I'm not just,
- 1:30:05you know, going out there all Willy nilly and not caring
- 1:30:08about. That's OK.
- 1:30:10I know you're talking about Peyton Parish, you know.
- 1:30:16I'll say it Mired. You're not you're not you're not
- 1:30:19the next Disney Princess rendition of a of a song.
- 1:30:23And like like sit the red said, you know, like it would be great
- 1:30:26to sleep too. It, you know, dude, if you ever
- 1:30:28came out with just a, a whole telling of that portion of you,
- 1:30:35you know, a, a recitation of it in that, in that style, yeah,
- 1:30:39put that on repeat for me, man. I'll be, I'll be zonked out in 5
- 1:30:43minutes. Not because I'm not interested,
- 1:30:45just because it's that suit, right?
- 1:30:48Here, here is talking about pronunciations and stuff.
- 1:30:50One thing I realized too about language, it loses itself when
- 1:30:54you sing it sometimes. Yeah, if you ever heard
- 1:31:00something like pronouncement that when they use like, like
- 1:31:04French or anything, if they speak it versus when they sing
- 1:31:07it, it's completely different. It is different, you're right.
- 1:31:10The productiation kind of loses itself a little bit.
- 1:31:13So that's something to take account of.
- 1:31:16When you sing it, it'll, it'll sound differently than when
- 1:31:19especially when you're learning a dead language or singing a
- 1:31:22dead language. It will, it will.
- 1:31:25It will lose itself when you sing, when you put to song,
- 1:31:28song. Yeah, it's also difficult to put
- 1:31:33a dead language into meter when it comes to verses and writing.
- 1:31:37You know what? I'm, I, I don't know if you, if
- 1:31:39you use lyrics in your music as well, because I know you, you
- 1:31:43make it as well, Blake. And and you can't change the
- 1:31:50word. The word is the word, but it's
- 1:31:52sometimes hard to like. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:57Because when you're speaking, when you're speaking like a lot
- 1:31:59of these old Germanic languages, a lot of the emphasis is placed
- 1:32:03on the front. The the stress of the of the
- 1:32:06word is placed on the front versus the end.
- 1:32:08So it's not, you know, it's not Othala.
- 1:32:10It's Othala, you know, But how do you say that in a song if
- 1:32:13you're going to say it, you know what I mean?
- 1:32:14Like so it yeah, I get that. Yeah.
- 1:32:19But also like. What would be really interesting
- 1:32:21though is trying to mimic the dead meter itself the of that
- 1:32:25language like. All right, well, I loved it
- 1:32:31Matthew, thank you so much for for sending it our way and
- 1:32:34having it showcased here on the live stream for the 7th year
- 1:32:37anniversary. I feel like that was a a
- 1:32:39beautiful representation of, of the work and just what we're
- 1:32:46doing and and what you're doing. So yeah, folks, you know, again,
- 1:32:50Matthew's stuff is, is LinkedIn, the description below, follow
- 1:32:53with SoundCloud or subscribe to, I don't know how that platform
- 1:32:56works, but check it all out. His YouTube channel is up there
- 1:32:58too and definitely check it out. Yeah, Jesse, I really appreciate
- 1:33:02that. Yeah, man.
- 1:33:03Thank you. All right, let's get to the last
- 1:33:07comment that Kevin posted with regards to whites who said Kevin
- 1:33:13says that my UPG that whites are being as naturalistic as they
- 1:33:18are don't understand human language.
- 1:33:21They do understand body language.
- 1:33:26And I can close the example think of right now as like a dog
- 1:33:33doesn't fully understand English, but they, they know
- 1:33:37when we are talking and communicating to them.
- 1:33:40Eric, you had kind of highlighted or called out this
- 1:33:43comment and and wanted to to touch a little bit on this.
- 1:33:47Yeah, can you still hear me? Yes.
- 1:33:49OK, because my picture went away but I don't.
- 1:33:51Know yeah, you're frozen, but you might come back.
- 1:33:53We can still hear. You OK?
- 1:33:54Cool. Long as you can hear me.
- 1:33:56Yeah. One of the things that I like to
- 1:33:58really drive home when I'm dealing with working with the
- 1:34:01Veitier or the spirits is to point out that they are other.
- 1:34:06They are not like us. They are, they have their own
- 1:34:10ways, they have their own language, their own just way of
- 1:34:15doing things. And so it's kind of like dealing
- 1:34:19with wild animals because wild animals I see as one of the
- 1:34:23levels of Veitier. I'm not going to do the whole
- 1:34:25diatribe on the whole hierarchy of Veitier thing, but they you
- 1:34:31can't just walk up and talk to a squirrel in the park and it
- 1:34:34understand your signals and what you mean even through your body
- 1:34:37language and stuff. You can come to an understanding
- 1:34:41through repeated interactions, offerings and demonstrations of
- 1:34:47intent and will, but it doesn't automatically happen that way.
- 1:34:51And they tear's the same way. We have to come to kind of an
- 1:34:54understanding. We have to interact repeatedly
- 1:35:00and show them, one, we're not a threat, 2, that we honor them
- 1:35:03and that three, there is a way we can work together and build a
- 1:35:07relationship and it is a it's an ongoing thing.
- 1:35:09It's not something that just happens overnight.
- 1:35:11But they are very much other. They don't think like us.
- 1:35:14They don't value the same things that we do.
- 1:35:17They are wholly other. They are alien to us.
- 1:35:21But that doesn't mean we can't find and forge a common language
- 1:35:27of deed and action that will kind of supersede all of that.
- 1:35:38I came in late, I heard some about squirrels.
- 1:35:41That's a good one to come in on. You talking squirrels?
- 1:35:46Talking squirrels. That was the point that I needed
- 1:35:51to make. I'm trying to figure out my
- 1:35:54connection now. Yeah, No, you're good.
- 1:35:56No, it's, it's, it's like the whole, you know, I've, I've
- 1:36:01talked before about yes, they are.
- 1:36:04Eric, you mentioned talking about the, the way that the
- 1:36:07Veytir spirits, however you identify them as act and behave
- 1:36:13independently of, of, of us. They, they exist in the profane
- 1:36:18space and time that we exist. But they are other, they are
- 1:36:21spirit, right. So in many ways and in many
- 1:36:24times, they are manifesting themselves in a physical form
- 1:36:28that we can tangibly connect to make.
- 1:36:31We might, we might recognize the spirit of the river as being,
- 1:36:36you know, in the form of a duck or the form of a Heron or the
- 1:36:39form of a turtle or this sort of thing.
- 1:36:41That or the other, right. But by and large, right, the
- 1:36:45spirit of that place is, is, is such to be outside of that body,
- 1:36:52right? How they manifest themselves,
- 1:36:53how they, how they identify with us could be in the form of a
- 1:36:58physical thing, but they are not that similarly to us, right?
- 1:37:04I, I, I believe that we are, we're riding around in, in, in a
- 1:37:10physical form that is identifiable.
- 1:37:14We, we, we, we know that when I'm looking at Eric that it's
- 1:37:18Eric and when he's looking at me, it's Jesse.
- 1:37:20And when it's Matt and it's Amelia and it's Blake and it's
- 1:37:21Patrick and it's, you know, whoever.
- 1:37:24But this physical form does not us entirely.
- 1:37:27It is a part of us. It's, it's what makes up us in a
- 1:37:30physical sense. But we are beyond that.
- 1:37:34We are, we are different than that as well.
- 1:37:36So, yeah, the language, the, the, the way that we communicate
- 1:37:40in and at times these, these, these entities, these spirits,
- 1:37:46right? They, they do, they act on their
- 1:37:48own agency. I, I, I've been asked a lot, you
- 1:37:50know, how do we connect with the veytier?
- 1:37:53How do we strengthen our bonds with the veytier?
- 1:37:55And I go well, you know, sometimes not all the veytier
- 1:37:58are ones that we should want to strengthen or connect with.
- 1:38:03No, I had to drive off my land years ago.
- 1:38:06Right, we had an. Invasive one.
- 1:38:08That just wasn't it. It was, it was bad.
- 1:38:10We ended up having to drive it out.
- 1:38:12Yeah, and that's. I'm sorry, can I, can I ask you
- 1:38:15a question about that, Eric? Sure.
- 1:38:18Is that a a Hoosfith here? No.
- 1:38:20No, no, no, my Hoosfith here is what I used to help drive away.
- 1:38:24We had in the yard an invasive spirit.
- 1:38:28It had kind of an erected energy to it that moved in and was
- 1:38:34influencing kind of the, it's having a negative effect on the
- 1:38:39household energy and the energy of the worked land, which is all
- 1:38:42the purview of the Husvitier. And my Husvitier was who I
- 1:38:46banded together with, as well as, you know, wielding the
- 1:38:49powers of one of my witchy women to come out and do some rituals
- 1:38:52and things like that to help kind of make it feel unwelcome.
- 1:38:57We didn't go so far as a nistang, but it was effectively
- 1:39:01the same concept. Rituals to say hey, you are not
- 1:39:06welcome. This is our land.
- 1:39:09Same. It's the same premise as a land
- 1:39:11taking and the role that a land taking would do.
- 1:39:14And we managed to drum it out. It was, it was a rough go there
- 1:39:18for a little bit though. We had a lot of outside animals
- 1:39:20that were coming up dead. There was some really negative
- 1:39:24toxic stuff that was happening on the land and in the household
- 1:39:28that cleared up once we got that kind of taken care of.
- 1:39:33Just reminded me, Jesse, you had a, you had a podcast a couple
- 1:39:38weeks ago. We talked about land on my book
- 1:39:44and the taking of lands. And I asked a question about,
- 1:39:47you know, I have a, an issue with my basement and something
- 1:39:50with my basement. And I think we, I, I refer to it
- 1:39:56as Latin V theatre, but I think it was, it should have been
- 1:39:58referred to as Who's the theatre?
- 1:40:00But it sounds simpler, similar to something that Eric was going
- 1:40:02through as well. So I was just like, oh shit.
- 1:40:06Yeah, the the domain of the household and the worked land of
- 1:40:09the property is the domain of the hoospetier.
- 1:40:13Llanventier are those that are outside you.
- 1:40:16It's the same thing as the yard of Inangar.
- 1:40:19It's just a very literal, your yard is the domain of the
- 1:40:22hoospetier. It doesn't.
- 1:40:23It doesn't just stop at the wall, it goes all the way out to
- 1:40:26the staked property, the worked land, that which you have
- 1:40:29claimed through act and deed, and you have to continue to
- 1:40:33stake said claim repeatedly and invasive spirits will come in.
- 1:40:38That's why we do wardings, that's why we do room work, why
- 1:40:42we have sachets, why we do cleansings, the seasonal things.
- 1:40:47It's really good to keep reinforcing those wards and
- 1:40:50protective layers every year in a cyclic fashion to keep those
- 1:40:53things from coming in. But they're all the tier.
- 1:40:58Whether we put L'anvatier or Husetier in it, that's just
- 1:41:01saying where the thing resides. Yeah, I mean Fialvatir, there
- 1:41:06was a, there was an ad at the beginning of the of the show for
- 1:41:08fialvatir, right. Fialvatir workshop is a
- 1:41:10business, a company, friends of mine, family, extended family.
- 1:41:14But the word fialvatir literally means mountain spirit because
- 1:41:18fial is mountain and then veitir is, is the spirit.
- 1:41:23So it's mountain spirit. You have fialvatir, you have
- 1:41:25different names of things and whose vitir.
- 1:41:27Could I forget where it's appearing?
- 1:41:30Yeah, it's the Hoos, the house, right?
- 1:41:32The the. Hoos is yeah, Scandinavian for
- 1:41:35house. Kof God is, I think, a Germanic,
- 1:41:38continental Saxon Germanic term for, for the same sort of thing.
- 1:41:42It's, it's this concept that the, the, the, the house, the
- 1:41:45domicile, the hearth, right? Because you got to think like
- 1:41:48the, the huts, the way that the family lived and everything.
- 1:41:52There was a central hearth, There was a fireplace, There was
- 1:41:55a place for that hearth fire to burn, to keep, you know, warm
- 1:41:58and to keep safe. And so the the people had this,
- 1:42:02this concept of that every home, every, every house was was
- 1:42:08guarded by a God a a spirit God, maybe lowercase.
- 1:42:12G Eric this is a nod to your acknowledgement of of
- 1:42:16religiosities and and you know, God uppercase versus God
- 1:42:18lowercase, but. It's important.
- 1:42:20Yeah. That, that spirit, that, that,
- 1:42:22that, that, that unseen, that other entity that protects and,
- 1:42:26and sort of takes up residence with the family in the family
- 1:42:31space in the home. And so they are your kind of
- 1:42:34guardian and, and, and how it manifests and how it lives or
- 1:42:38how it makes itself manifests as unique to each and, you know,
- 1:42:43each, each place. Some folk, I think it's very
- 1:42:47Norwegian or very, you know, Northern European to to to have
- 1:42:53it as a as the Denise or the Tonte right, the the.
- 1:42:58Is Norwegian and tonte is a sedish.
- 1:43:01Swedish, Yeah. So they mean the same like they
- 1:43:05the different words for the same thing.
- 1:43:06I think it's it's a it's a sort of gnomish or or little person
- 1:43:12representation or figure of the spirit of the domicile of the
- 1:43:15home. Right, Eric?
- 1:43:17Mm hmm yes, the Nissan Tomte are manifestations of the Husfeter.
- 1:43:21Same kind of thing. It's just a different flavor, a
- 1:43:26different aesthetic. And honestly speaking, I find
- 1:43:29this to be similar to the idea of patron gods and goddesses.
- 1:43:34The idea of household gods and goddesses.
- 1:43:36That was actually a Roman thing too.
- 1:43:39This This is seen throughout multiple religions and cultures.
- 1:43:44The idea that there is that which is of the home.
- 1:43:48The difference is that we just look at things a little bit
- 1:43:51differently. Instead of being like gods, ours
- 1:43:54are we recognize the spirit of the home, the literal animating
- 1:43:59spirit of the home. That is, given what we accept as
- 1:44:02the physical form, the iconography of the gnome or
- 1:44:07whatever symbol that you choose to use to represent that.
- 1:44:12There's a really good book on it.
- 1:44:14There's True Hearth, which has some very interesting takes on
- 1:44:18dealing with Hughesfatir, and then there is tradition of the
- 1:44:22household gods or household spirits.
- 1:44:24Tradition of Household spirits by.
- 1:44:26Claude Lecoto, Yes. Fantastic.
- 1:44:30Book, I have both. I have his and and the the
- 1:44:33demons and angels. There's another one that
- 1:44:34Claude's got great. Claude's got several things.
- 1:44:37Emilia. What'd you have isn't.
- 1:44:39One of them I remember a long time ago like y'all were talking
- 1:44:42and koof God was mentioned. Koof God, that's what, that's
- 1:44:47what Jesse was talking about before this Anglo-Saxon side of
- 1:44:50things. Yeah, the Koof God is the who's
- 1:44:53fit here. It's just a different name,
- 1:44:54right? Yeah, 'cause I remember that
- 1:44:56being said like a long time ago. And it's always like stuck in
- 1:44:59the back of my mind because, you know, you think about all of us
- 1:45:02and all our recollection, 'cause there's stuff that's in the
- 1:45:06thermographics, you know, and geographical restrictions from,
- 1:45:09you know, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic, you know, Saxon, Old
- 1:45:15Saxon, Anglo-Saxon. And, you know, you think of the
- 1:45:18Germanic and, you know, Yoten's and Friesians and Danes and
- 1:45:23different things like that, and they all had different words.
- 1:45:25And so you hear it at so many different angles and it's
- 1:45:27comparing and contrast and stuff.
- 1:45:29And I know, like I remember hearing that when, you know, I
- 1:45:32first met y'all, you know, seven years ago and I was like, like,
- 1:45:36wait, what? Cuz like I hadn't really got
- 1:45:38into the Anglo-Saxon because I was mainly in like, you know,
- 1:45:41Old Norse and Old Icelandic. And that's all I stayed at
- 1:45:44until, you know, you know, Old Saxon, Anglo-Saxon was becoming
- 1:45:48really popular seven years ago. And then I dove into that and,
- 1:45:51you know, learn different words and understandings of certain
- 1:45:54stuff. And you know, you know, and I
- 1:45:58realized from when you are talking about house spirits and
- 1:46:00different things like that, you know, you think about it like
- 1:46:04the house spirit of an older house may be different from when
- 1:46:06you have like a brand new house built because it can be forged
- 1:46:10differently with that house spirit.
- 1:46:13As well as like, you know, say for example, it's been a
- 1:46:15property that's been abandoned for years, you know, on land or
- 1:46:19whatever, compared to something that's in a busy area that's
- 1:46:22always had there. Something may have happened
- 1:46:25because you really don't know the history or you know that
- 1:46:29area, so to speak. Like, you know, for example,
- 1:46:31where I live at, when I first moved into my house 13 years
- 1:46:35ago, almost 14, you know, I had my friends were like, dude, I
- 1:46:39see shadows in your yard. Like I was like, dude, I have no
- 1:46:42idea what that is. And then somebody was like,
- 1:46:44dude, there's one in your house. It's in the corner behind you.
- 1:46:47And I'm like this, this house, I bought it and had it moved on my
- 1:46:51land. So I don't know what people did
- 1:46:53beforehand. And maybe just one walked in
- 1:46:55here and I'll take care of it, you know, and, you know, put my
- 1:46:58words up and, you know, bless my house and you know, you know,
- 1:47:02create a sacred space within my home for protection and all
- 1:47:07those different things. And like, a lot of people don't
- 1:47:09understand that there's multiple layers when it comes to, you
- 1:47:13know, the way of life that we live.
- 1:47:15And, you know, we could go all day on this and comparison and
- 1:47:19contrast and swap stories of different experiences because
- 1:47:21almost all of us are going to have some story that's similar
- 1:47:24to one another on experiences of things we deal with, Especially
- 1:47:27for people who's been a part of these traditions for so long.
- 1:47:32Like, how many years have you been a part of this, Eric?
- 1:47:36Oh, what did I say? Like 2006 like. 19.
- 1:47:40Almost. 20 years. Yeah.
- 1:47:42And see, I'm on my 16th year. And so it's just every
- 1:47:46experience is so different. It'd be longer good than that.
- 1:47:49I don't know. So it's just everybody's
- 1:47:51experiences are so different. And, you know, some of us have
- 1:47:54been, you know, at it longer than others and, you know,
- 1:47:59sharing stories and sharing experiences or, you know, our
- 1:48:02guides for newer people that are just starting out from our
- 1:48:05knowledge and wisdom because we're all walking libraries
- 1:48:08basically with different things that we've read or seen and, you
- 1:48:12know, heard or, you know, through the Grapevine and
- 1:48:15whatnot. And for me, like one of my most
- 1:48:20interesting things that I observe is, you know, kindreds
- 1:48:22and tribes, you know, how they rise and fall.
- 1:48:25And they've done that for so many years, you know, And it's
- 1:48:30just, it's so interesting to hear the different dynamics of
- 1:48:33things when you know the different types of spirits.
- 1:48:36You know, the lands, the mountains, the forest, you know,
- 1:48:39the sea, the creeks, the streams, you know, it just can
- 1:48:42go on and on and on about different experiences.
- 1:48:45Like, my first experience, you know, with dealing with the
- 1:48:48spirits was when I was a little kid, you know, living up in the
- 1:48:51little mountains of Arkansas, you know, camping out there as a
- 1:48:54kid. And that's where, you know, I
- 1:48:56made my connection with Odin when I was a kid, even though I
- 1:48:59didn't really know who his name was.
- 1:49:01And yeah, it took me till I was about 21 until I, you know,
- 1:49:04figured out who he really was, you know, But, you know, he came
- 1:49:08to me as a child, not in a physical form, but in a
- 1:49:11spiritual form and told me, you know, one day I would understand
- 1:49:15who he is, but to remember his name and, you know, to go from
- 1:49:19there. And he came in a spiritual
- 1:49:21aspect, even though it wasn't a physical form in the, you know,
- 1:49:26the mountains and everything of the spirits of that area, you
- 1:49:30know. So it's just, it's really.
- 1:49:32Remember my name? Well, which name should I
- 1:49:34remember you by? 50,000 I.
- 1:49:37Know right you got you got tons of them I know.
- 1:49:42I'm just going to get caught up on some comments here.
- 1:49:44While he and Wolfpack mentioned something on the topic of
- 1:49:46greater Heathenry, there is many ways to heathen facts.
- 1:49:52You have also true theatism. Meh.
- 1:49:57Urbanism. Folks.
- 1:50:00Well, OK, let me let me let me just add a disclaimer here.
- 1:50:03The Fadish folk watch out. It's.
- 1:50:08Theatism has some real touchy stuff here that does, especially
- 1:50:13in today's climate, can can really strike some nerves to
- 1:50:16people. There can also be a regional
- 1:50:18aspect of that. Yeah, that's I got a good buddy
- 1:50:22who's theatish and we are night and day on some of the ways that
- 1:50:25we believe and structures, but we have some of the best
- 1:50:28conversations and he's the most solid man I've ever met.
- 1:50:31Not cut for him any day. But so I can't necessarily I
- 1:50:37discredit theism as a whole because I've seen it in action
- 1:50:41where it works. I've also seen the toxicity of
- 1:50:43it, but I've also seen that every one of these.
- 1:50:46Yeah. Oh, yeah, awesome.
- 1:50:47True. Forget about it.
- 1:50:47You know, it's everybody's got their own way of doing things.
- 1:50:51You know, Greater Heathenry as in, so they're saying, you know,
- 1:50:54as a greater Heathenry or an orthodox practice in Heathenry
- 1:50:59is somewhat an oxymoron. Heathenry isn't orthodox if it's
- 1:51:04orthopraxic. We've had.
- 1:51:07I didn't say that much. And we've had this discussion
- 1:51:10before. It is worth a paraxic.
- 1:51:13It is absolutely worth a paraxic.
- 1:51:16There is. There can be some orthodoxic
- 1:51:19elements to it in accepted lore, and except in on a tribe level
- 1:51:27it can be orthodoxic as a greater whole, no.
- 1:51:31But yeah, but that's the key point, right?
- 1:51:32At a tribal level, it's a tribal food tradition.
- 1:51:37And, and, and that the thing of that tribe that that is adopted,
- 1:51:40it's, it's not that this tribe does it.
- 1:51:42Therefore, it's what every tribe does.
- 1:51:44Right, but on that same point, greater the greater heathenry
- 1:51:48isn't orthopraxic either because things are done differently in
- 1:51:51different regions and by different tribes.
- 1:51:54There are some that will say bloat is only blood sacrifice
- 1:51:58and that is the only way that you can do it.
- 1:52:00Others will differentiate between blolt and feigning.
- 1:52:03Some will focus on the fact that bloat doesn't mean blood, it
- 1:52:06means sacrifice, and therefore an offering is made regardless
- 1:52:11whether or not it's blood offering.
- 1:52:13So yeah, it still doesn't necessarily pinpoint on the
- 1:52:18whole orthopraxic thing. I am one of those that say
- 1:52:21there's as many different versions of Heathenry as there
- 1:52:23are different tribes in the world.
- 1:52:26Sure yeah do you guys gals have a beginner group?
- 1:52:35I've been bullied by heathens in the past so hesitant to risk it
- 1:52:39with random groups. Says Seti, the red seti.
- 1:52:43I don't know if you're still watching this because I'm just
- 1:52:45getting caught up on a lot of comments, but yours is the last
- 1:52:47one that I saw 9. Minutes.
- 1:52:50Ago, I mean, this is this is kind of a question that I would
- 1:52:54say like, where are you like, and this is a tough question to
- 1:52:58ask like, oh, where are you located, right.
- 1:53:00A lot of folks nowadays are using monikers and and online
- 1:53:04personas to hide their true identity, which I totally
- 1:53:08understand out of safety reasons.
- 1:53:12When it comes to your beginner group thing that you're looking
- 1:53:16for, I'll, I'll put myself out here as apoc a point of contact
- 1:53:24if you want to e-mail midgardmusingstn@gmail.com with
- 1:53:28some of your specifics. I, I totally understand if you
- 1:53:33don't want to put this out on a public sort of thing, but if, if
- 1:53:39you're a beginner looking to get established or to learn things
- 1:53:42at a very one-on-one level, it would be helpful to know where
- 1:53:47you are, if we can put you in contact with people in your area
- 1:53:50that can help you with this. Matt, you had a question.
- 1:53:54Your hand there, Matt. Go ahead.
- 1:53:56I'm I'm actually really sorry. I'm it's I have to leave.
- 1:54:00I'm so sorry about that. A little late.
- 1:54:03I just got to this stuff work to do tomorrow early and I just I
- 1:54:07really want to thank you guys for having me.
- 1:54:10Thank you, Jesse, congratulations on 7 years.
- 1:54:13Thank you for everything everyone, it's really nice to
- 1:54:16meet you guys. Yeah, nice to meet.
- 1:54:19You nice to meet you. Yeah, I just got to go.
- 1:54:21I'm so sorry. No worries, Matt.
- 1:54:22Thank you for your time and I, I appreciate you, man.
- 1:54:25We'll stay in touch. But yeah, so yeah, anyways,
- 1:54:31Sadie, right? If you, you know, see this now
- 1:54:33or, or see it later, whatever. I'll I'll happily be in contact
- 1:54:37with you if you want to e-mail me midgardmusingstn@gmail.com to
- 1:54:41help with that. I've talked about some things on
- 1:54:44my own channel. I know Eric has a heathenry one
- 1:54:46O one thing on his which if you go on YouTube and just search
- 1:54:51for the Ravens call his will be the channel that pops up but
- 1:54:54episode. 4. What's that?
- 1:54:58Episode 4 is Heathenry One O 1. OK.
- 1:55:02And they are still here. So they're in the UK tried
- 1:55:11monthly online spaces and run into the Brosa true types in the
- 1:55:14UK. I know somebody who lives in the
- 1:55:19UK, but I don't know. I know it's not a very big spot
- 1:55:24of land. So I don't want to say like I
- 1:55:27know somebody and you might can connect with them because you
- 1:55:29know, North and South and east and West and this and that.
- 1:55:34But again, I, I know somebody who lived here in North America,
- 1:55:39their spouse is, is, is Portuguese and is, was raised in
- 1:55:44England. They currently live in the UK.
- 1:55:46Now maybe I can get in contact, maybe I can get you in contact
- 1:55:52with them and you can figure out geographics in terms of
- 1:55:54locations they are, they are trying to to create something of
- 1:55:59a like a brick and mortar location.
- 1:56:05They have a business that they're trying to open sort of a
- 1:56:07metaphysical shop. But he's, he's very animistic in
- 1:56:11his Heathenry Seti the red. So if you want to e-mail me
- 1:56:19again with with some more specifics geographics in in
- 1:56:21terms of where you are in the UK, I'm happy to you say
- 1:56:25Northwest. I don't know where my friend is
- 1:56:27located specifically. I'm just not familiar with the,
- 1:56:29the geographics of the landscape to know where exactly they are.
- 1:56:33But it's a point of contact that I at least I know of.
- 1:56:36If anybody else here knows of anybody in the UK that, that you
- 1:56:39know, they want to throw out here or, or or suggest and
- 1:56:43that's fine. But that's my two cents.
- 1:56:45I don't. Think I've got anybody in the UK
- 1:56:47right now? Yeah, I've got one in Denmark
- 1:56:50and then one in France, and then I have another one in Norway and
- 1:56:55there's one in Sweden that I know of, but not in the UKI.
- 1:57:01Have a friend in Wales but he's not Ethan.
- 1:57:07OK, we'll, we'll we'll, we'll see what we can do then.
- 1:57:11You got my contact information. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
- 1:57:14Crushing nihilism says I had a I've had a drunk Chieftain who
- 1:57:19had a firearm on him screaming in my face for upsetting his
- 1:57:25brother. Kindreds can be squirrely bikes
- 1:57:29on several on several bikes there, my guy.
- 1:57:32Yeah, we. Were red flags.
- 1:57:34Yeah, run. Yeah, multiple red flags there.
- 1:57:38Run. Simple as that.
- 1:57:40Just. One, there is no gatekeeping and
- 1:57:42everything you're doing is wrong.
- 1:57:47Yeah, we. Yeah.
- 1:57:50That was such a thing back in the day of Heathenry Online and
- 1:57:54I hate it that you're doing it wrong, guys.
- 1:57:58And I think we've mostly gotten past a lot of that.
- 1:58:03It's always going to be there. There's always going to be an
- 1:58:04element of the hardcore, like hardcore Reconstructionist or
- 1:58:08just the I am so full of myself, my way is the only way kind of
- 1:58:12thing. But I think enough saying people
- 1:58:16have gotten on the Internet at this point that there are
- 1:58:19workarounds for that. But man, is that a call back.
- 1:58:22Yeah, I got, I got 2 flashbacks. There's 2 pages that I'm on and
- 1:58:28you know, originally it was people posting really good stuff
- 1:58:32and then all of a sudden it turned into Vikings this,
- 1:58:36Vikings that and then it turned into like this.
- 1:58:40I'm looking for a shield maiden. I'm looking for my Viking man
- 1:58:44and I'm. Like the the Viking.
- 1:58:47Yeah. And I'm just like, no, it wasn't
- 1:58:50that in the beginning. Like people were actually
- 1:58:52posting good stuff. And then it went back to
- 1:58:54Vikings, the TV show, and then it went into Vikings Valhalla.
- 1:58:59And then all of a sudden they started talking about soup.
- 1:59:02Every time somebody said Viking, they would talk about Viking
- 1:59:04soup. And then it turned into I'm
- 1:59:07looking for a shield maid. And I'm like, what?
- 1:59:09Just. And it conspired over like, a
- 1:59:11month. And it was ridiculous because,
- 1:59:13you know, I post pretty much, you know, the basic stuff of
- 1:59:17understanding of, you know, what is a part of our faith about the
- 1:59:21Eddas, the sagas. And, you know, I do summaries
- 1:59:25about different things and the gods, goddesses.
- 1:59:28Yeah, different entries about stuff about, you know, the room.
- 1:59:31I like your rune posts too there Amelia, like I.
- 1:59:35Love, I love and hate those things at the same time because
- 1:59:39I'll have one guy that'll come on there and he'll make a
- 1:59:42comment and I'm just like, OK, or somebody will like nitpick
- 1:59:46something. I'm like, listen, are you, are
- 1:59:49you making stuff like this? No.
- 1:59:53Are you helping build a better community?
- 1:59:54Do you have a kindred or are you doing anything besides trolling
- 1:59:58people? And they're like, no.
- 1:59:59And I'm like, then get off my page.
- 2:00:01Like I don't have time for you. Like I'm trying to help other
- 2:00:03people learn because I remember when.
- 2:00:06We all started out, you know, it was like digging through books
- 2:00:10to try to find good stuff. And like, to me, like even the
- 2:00:12first like 3 or 4 years, it took me that long to find the good
- 2:00:17books, not the ones that were UPG and different things like
- 2:00:22that until I came across the right library.
- 2:00:25And you know, for us, the way everything is right now, we
- 2:00:29could teach so easily because we've already been where they're
- 2:00:33at. So we could help them skip those
- 2:00:35corners that we had to go through reading the dry reads or
- 2:00:39the bad reads or, you know, the books that were a waste of our
- 2:00:42time. And so for me, it's just like
- 2:00:46people just make a comment or talk crazy and I'm like, get off
- 2:00:50river Pine right now. Like I don't have time for you.
- 2:00:53I'm going to pull the mom card. Go home right now.
- 2:00:56Little boy like. I don't have time for you.
- 2:00:59And you know, I'm always giving my mom vibes off.
- 2:01:02Get off my lawn, I. Know, and I'm just I'm trying to
- 2:01:05help people, you know, because I don't ever want anybody to be
- 2:01:09where I was because I practiced alone and you know you've heard
- 2:01:12me talk about this before, Jesse.
- 2:01:14I practiced alone for seven or eight years before River Pine
- 2:01:18got established. And yeah, it did teach me a lot
- 2:01:21of great lessons. And I had, you know, a solitary
- 2:01:26practice that was a different connection than what I have with
- 2:01:29the community that I do now and with River Pine members as well
- 2:01:33as other people that, you know, we build community with.
- 2:01:37It's a different spiritual connection.
- 2:01:40But man, Facebook some days and that algorithm, it's just like
- 2:01:44beating you up and people troll and I'm like, I'm going to be
- 2:01:48off Facebook. I'm just going to share my stuff
- 2:01:50that I have scheduled out. You share it wonderful.
- 2:01:54It's like I'm not going to be on here for the rest of the day.
- 2:01:56Yeah, dude. And, and you know, you and me,
- 2:02:00you know Amelia, you and I and and even Eric there for the
- 2:02:03longest time, you know, like, you know, being a being a
- 2:02:06anybody content creators, you know what I mean?
- 2:02:11Like too many people chase the algorithm, too many people chase
- 2:02:15the trends, too many people try to stay relevant to whatever it
- 2:02:18is that's popular. And the, and I, I hit a point a
- 2:02:23couple years ago where I was trending down that dangerous
- 2:02:26path where I'm like, I got to stay relevant.
- 2:02:28I got to keep up with my views and this and that.
- 2:02:30And it was taking away from the, the authenticity of what I do.
- 2:02:34And that's such a, it, it is. It's an easy trap to find
- 2:02:39oneself caught in, you know, like, you know, the, the city of
- 2:02:45the red, like you know it. They feel that people are really
- 2:02:47harsh in many spaces to beginners.
- 2:02:51And, and listen, if you're going to talk about Loki, anybody who
- 2:02:55has miles into their tires that that that has an ego about them
- 2:03:00is going to come firing back at you with some really harsh stuff
- 2:03:03about Loki. I mean, that's just, there's,
- 2:03:08there's less people that know how to approach that in a right
- 2:03:11way than there are that people that just want to attack you.
- 2:03:15If that's your angle on things, you know, it's, it's a, it's a,
- 2:03:19it's a touchy place to be as a heathen.
- 2:03:22If, if, if Loki is your focus of attention, I'll say that you're
- 2:03:29gonna get a lot of Flack. It's a tough road to hoe and
- 2:03:34that is one that is probably the most contentious.
- 2:03:40So studies you're going through and you're doing stuff, do not
- 2:03:43take it seriously, all right? Don't don't let it get to you.
- 2:03:48The only person whose opinion matters on your practice is your
- 2:03:53own. And as long as my rules are as
- 2:03:56long as you're good with your gods, the ancestors and the
- 2:03:59people around you, you're good heathen in my book.
- 2:04:03I'm not going to judge. I don't balk.
- 2:04:06Now, there are certain ones that I won't do ritual with if
- 2:04:10that's, you know, their tack, simply because our religious
- 2:04:15views don't jive. There are individuals out there
- 2:04:18that can have a diplomatic and intelligent conversation with
- 2:04:23you without falling into vitriol and.
- 2:04:32And he's friends. He's friends.
- 2:04:36He'll be back. Am I back?
- 2:04:38Yeah, you're back, you said. And and then we lost you for a
- 2:04:40second. Yeah, I know I went away.
- 2:04:42My whole thing was just said. Hang in there, it's a tough Rd.
- 2:04:45but the only one who matters is you.
- 2:04:47Not my hall, not my call. Forget the Odin guard, they
- 2:04:49don't matter. Yeah, it's Tolheim, Eric.
- 2:04:54Tolheim. Eric to to to coin that term.
- 2:04:57Tolheim is the Internet. It's the the realm of trolls and
- 2:05:00and something good about trolls in the lore.
- 2:05:04They're they're menacing. They're menacing, they're
- 2:05:06meddlesome little little little suckers, you know what I mean?
- 2:05:10Do not feed the trolls. I don't even respond to them
- 2:05:15anymore. They'll just say whatever and
- 2:05:16I'm just like thumbs up. Don't feed the trolls.
- 2:05:19Exactly. Which is weird to do when you're
- 2:05:23you know, when, when you're creating content, right?
- 2:05:25Like, cuz that's the whole thing they tell you, right?
- 2:05:27Oh, you got to engage with your not missing that.
- 2:05:30No, don't. I'll tell you what, engage with
- 2:05:31this. Right I.
- 2:05:34Got time, I got time. I don't know my positive way
- 2:05:38that I do everything if I can't comment on what they're talking
- 2:05:41about because it's just I don't really have anything to say.
- 2:05:43Like I'll heart it or I'll put the caring emoji on it, or I'll
- 2:05:48say thank you, I appreciate you and I keep it real positive and
- 2:05:52everything but like, but my take.
- 2:05:55Care of it. My, my main deal is, is like,
- 2:05:57you know, after so long, you know, because you can only talk
- 2:06:02about the runes for so long and you know, different parts of the
- 2:06:06Eddas and the sagas and you know, don't be wrong.
- 2:06:09There's like 45 sagas. I think there is, you can go
- 2:06:12through that are, they're not really the like there's really
- 2:06:15only maybe 7 or 8 popular ones and then all the rest are just
- 2:06:19kind of, you know, miscellaneous ones.
- 2:06:22But like, for me, like, when it comes to making content, like
- 2:06:26after a while, you just kind of hit a roadblock and then you
- 2:06:29have to start repeating everything again.
- 2:06:31Now I worried, you know. Oh well, would they like it if I
- 2:06:34bring back up the runes again? Or go through the gods and
- 2:06:37goddesses? Again, you know, content
- 2:06:41creations. Yeah, and like you can only talk
- 2:06:45about so many different aspects to where the the story gets old.
- 2:06:50You know, how many episodes in are you?
- 2:06:53I'm not on episodes. I do.
- 2:06:55I do posts like I do very in depth posts.
- 2:06:58Gotcha, gotcha. I'm I was, when I took my
- 2:07:02hiatus, I was at like 200 something episodes and you
- 2:07:06definitely hit a wall, especially when you're doing
- 2:07:09like 45 minute long diatribes about heathen stuff.
- 2:07:14You can find inspirations and then get the juices flowing
- 2:07:18again and then Rev right back up and go down an alley that you
- 2:07:20realize that you haven't done yet.
- 2:07:23But yeah, you'll, you'll hit those points where it's just
- 2:07:25like, I can't. And then you'll have like with
- 2:07:28me, like life stuff ate up all my spoons.
- 2:07:31I didn't have any spoons left. So unfortunately, content
- 2:07:35creation had to be one of the first things that fell by the
- 2:07:37wayside. And I'm looking to get back into
- 2:07:41it. But it's also daunting because
- 2:07:44trying to get back onto a schedule and stuff and and
- 2:07:47craziness and work and all this other stuff, I'm like, really
- 2:07:52got to be ready to have been it if I'm going to do it.
- 2:07:55I know that's one of my deals. I, I think I spend all Sunday
- 2:07:59long making content for five days.
- 2:08:02And I've gotten to the point where I do 2 posts a day and
- 2:08:06then like Saturdays I check on see how people's weekends are
- 2:08:12going. And then Sunday I shout out to
- 2:08:14the new people that joined River Pine.
- 2:08:17And like I had somebody message me and they were like, oh, can
- 2:08:20you teach classes online? I'm like, well, I've already got
- 2:08:23lessons plans made-up that are already wrote out on my Google
- 2:08:27Docs. Would you like to use them?
- 2:08:29And he was like, yeah, that's great.
- 2:08:31And everything, you know, and it goes over the Edas, you know, on
- 2:08:34each one of them, on different, you know, explaining and
- 2:08:37breaking everything down. It's like a a three month
- 2:08:40process to go through all of it to understand and digest it all.
- 2:08:44Because, you know, I think a lot of people, they rush through all
- 2:08:48these different things. And you know, there's like over
- 2:08:50150 books that you can read that are good books.
- 2:08:55That's it. No, the ones that I've.
- 2:08:57Found 100 and. 50 It's a. Starting point.
- 2:09:02Yeah. 150 you know, and there comes a point where you've got
- 2:09:05to stop reading and start living.
- 2:09:08Yeah. That's what I hit That was like,
- 2:09:10I'm going to stop reading books and start writing books.
- 2:09:13Yeah, and see, that was when that's when I made that post on
- 2:09:17Heathenry. Like, you could read all the
- 2:09:19books that you want, but if you cannot practice these things in
- 2:09:26your daily life, you're missing the point.
- 2:09:28It's just like, yeah, like you could dress like a someone from
- 2:09:32the Viking Age, go to a, you know, a rent fair and dress like
- 2:09:37your ancestors did to, you know, honor them.
- 2:09:42Yes, I know. I know it's burping, but at.
- 2:09:46But at the end of the day, you still have to wear your regular
- 2:09:49clothes and go back to work, right.
- 2:09:52Just like, you know, the mother, you know, being a mother,
- 2:09:56raising your kids, teaching them about the old ways and stuff,
- 2:09:59that's being a hearth mother, even though they may not realize
- 2:10:02it. Just like, yeah, living off the
- 2:10:05land and being a farmer may bring you closer to the land
- 2:10:08spirits and things like that. But there will come a point
- 2:10:12sometimes you do have to go to the grocery store for something,
- 2:10:16you know, eventually because we live in a modern day and we are
- 2:10:20modern heathen. It does tip into the whole,
- 2:10:23again, regionalization, grass roots kind of thing.
- 2:10:25The heathenry of a farmer is going to be different than the
- 2:10:28heathenry of a city dweller or a rural individual who doesn't
- 2:10:31farm. Yeah, there's going to be some
- 2:10:33significant differences. Vector are going to play a much
- 2:10:36larger role, very palpable and like life threatening role.
- 2:10:42It's like if this doesn't work then the crop goes down and we
- 2:10:46aren't going to be able to pay for the farm kind of deal.
- 2:10:50Yeah, that's a big thing of it nowadays.
- 2:10:52Like there's there's a lot of that homesteading mentality.
- 2:10:55I mean just the way that the world has become.
- 2:10:59There's a lot of folk, whether they're heathen or not, that are
- 2:11:02that are looking to the land. As you know, you don't even have
- 2:11:08to go back that very far in our recent history.
- 2:11:12And you hundred 200 years, if that two or three generations,
- 2:11:15most where people were more reliant and more dependent upon
- 2:11:19the land than they are now. And they're and they're
- 2:11:22realizing that they're it's like this is something I need to do.
- 2:11:27Well, yeah. It's just, I mean, when
- 2:11:30everything else shits the bed, you know?
- 2:11:33Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:11:33And to me, like, I think it's great that all this stuff is,
- 2:11:37you know, being brought back to light and everything.
- 2:11:40And, you know, in a way it's funny because, you know, they
- 2:11:42always do those posts. Like she starts off with making
- 2:11:45sourdough and then they make the joke to the husband.
- 2:11:47Might as well go to Lowe's and start building a chicken coop
- 2:11:49because that's the what's coming next.
- 2:11:51And then the garden and the rabbits and everything else.
- 2:11:54And they make a joke about it now on those reels and stuff.
- 2:11:58And, you know, for me, like I live out in the country, like
- 2:12:01yes, like I can't grow my own wheat, but I do buy wheat
- 2:12:06berries and, you know, mail my own flour.
- 2:12:09I do can and make stuff from scratch.
- 2:12:11I do, you know, holistic stuff and make tinchers and, you know,
- 2:12:15I make my own vanilla extract and things like that.
- 2:12:18Like, I do make a lot of stuff homemade, even though yes, I do
- 2:12:21work a full time job and you know, I have a family and, you
- 2:12:25know, River Pine and the. Community and all that.
- 2:12:28Yeah, We do what we can. And like, yeah.
- 2:12:29Like back in the day when my kids were little and I was at
- 2:12:32home, yeah, I could do a whole lot more.
- 2:12:34But now, you know, I still find a balance in it all.
- 2:12:37And, you know, it gives me a sense of pride that I can mill
- 2:12:40my own flour and make some bread from scratch.
- 2:12:43You know, my kids love it. But at the same time, you know,
- 2:12:47yeah. Like does it really bring me
- 2:12:49closer to my ancestors? Yeah, like you have to live it.
- 2:12:55It's it's, it's, it's a living tradition.
- 2:12:57You have to live it. I mean, if, if, if what it takes
- 2:12:59for you to do that requires you to learn from books and you have
- 2:13:03to read and you have to study. I mean, like I grew up on a
- 2:13:06farm, you know, and, and learn the farming lifestyle, the
- 2:13:10homesteading lifestyle, because I was doing it So, so much of
- 2:13:14that comes from, you know, actual life experiences.
- 2:13:18It, it wasn't so much a, I read it from a book and I thought it
- 2:13:23was cool and let me adopt it. It was, I, I lived it, you know,
- 2:13:27I, I, I was, I was active in that lifestyle.
- 2:13:31And so if what it takes for people that didn't have that
- 2:13:35living experience is to read about it, OK, that's a seed.
- 2:13:41That's a seed that's planted. And then you apply you, you have
- 2:13:45to, once the seed is planted, what do we have to do?
- 2:13:47Right? We have to nurture.
- 2:13:50Let's see, we have to water, we have to dung it, we have to feed
- 2:13:53it. We have to nurture, we have to
- 2:13:54do the thing, you know, that is what it takes to grow what it is
- 2:14:00you're trying to do. It's not about, you know, I'm
- 2:14:02not talking about the things that we're talking about today
- 2:14:05just to talk about it. It's, it's, it's sharing
- 2:14:11knowledge, it's sharing education, It's, it's
- 2:14:13collaborating, It's, it's getting people together in this
- 2:14:15sort of way to, you know, these are people that live it and we
- 2:14:23also come. From it from different corns.
- 2:14:27You know who's heathenry I care about?
- 2:14:29Yours. Exactly.
- 2:14:32You know who's I don't care about?
- 2:14:33Mine. Exactly.
- 2:14:36If you're not my I don't care. Not my call, not my call.
- 2:14:41I only care about my heathery, my approach to either.
- 2:14:44I care about Radgar and our way. The Radgari Heathenry is the
- 2:14:47only heathenry that really matters to me.
- 2:14:49And that's because this is ours. This is what this is our
- 2:14:53existence. This is what we are living.
- 2:14:56And I don't care what anybody else says.
- 2:14:58I don't care if somebody in California or the UK is telling
- 2:15:01me that I'm doing it wrong. Dude that lives next door to
- 2:15:03Thingveller can call me up and be like, you're not doing it
- 2:15:06right. I'll be like, I don't care.
- 2:15:08I genuinely don't care. I'm doing it right by us.
- 2:15:11This is how we have to do it and.
- 2:15:15Now the. Things that we do, we're passing
- 2:15:17on there. He.
- 2:15:21Goes he got it decided he lost the signal.
- 2:15:24Yeah, he'll be back and yeah, and it's.
- 2:15:27Funny because of the fact that there's a guy that I know and
- 2:15:32Norway and he feels the same way that Eric does.
- 2:15:35Like he literally tells people all the time, you don't like it
- 2:15:38because I'm a heater or the way I live.
- 2:15:40He's like, I don't care. He was just like, you do not
- 2:15:43affect my life and I'm gonna go on with my life.
- 2:15:46And he's very bold about it. Like even if we have different
- 2:15:50moments of thought processes about different things, he's
- 2:15:52like, I don't care. And then we keep on with the
- 2:15:55conversations. Just it is what it is kind of
- 2:15:57thing. You know, they're not paying
- 2:15:58bills on our back porch, you know they're not, you know?
- 2:16:02To that, to that point, to that point, I would also like to just
- 2:16:08play devil's advocate and say what if, right, the thing that
- 2:16:13we're doing respectively to one another is what it is.
- 2:16:17And then we have somebody else that says, hey, I'm doing this
- 2:16:20thing that or the other. Can we be, can we be open minded
- 2:16:26enough to not infringe upon the luck, the strength, everything
- 2:16:30that our individual collectives have retained, maintained and
- 2:16:36built? Can we be open and construct and
- 2:16:39constructive enough to be like, I'm going to take what you say,
- 2:16:43I'm going to see if it applies or I'm going to at least, you
- 2:16:46know, be be observant enough. I'm not going to shut you off
- 2:16:50100% because it's not your way. Therefore it's not my way and
- 2:16:53therefore meh, right? Can we be wise enough as Odin is
- 2:17:00as the wanderer to to to understand that there are things
- 2:17:05that can happen outside of our immediate tribal beliefs or
- 2:17:10structures that can maybe be beneficial?
- 2:17:13Oh, maybe I need to learn this thing, that or the other.
- 2:17:16Wisdom is. Wisdom.
- 2:17:17I agree. With that.
- 2:17:18Right. I can agree with that because
- 2:17:20when River Pine first started, you know, the, you know, three
- 2:17:25people wanted to start at Kindred.
- 2:17:27And I wasn't really. I was just along for the ride at
- 2:17:31the moment, taking it all into consideration.
- 2:17:34And we went to several other different Kindreds and tribes to
- 2:17:39get a feel of how they did stuff and, you know, ask their wisdom.
- 2:17:43You know, I met Eric and I met several other Kindreds until we
- 2:17:47decided how we wanted to do the foundation.
- 2:17:50Yeah, we found inspiration in different ways and we made it
- 2:17:53into our own to where it works for us.
- 2:17:57And you know, I've never really had anybody knock how we do
- 2:18:00rituals or our gatherings or anything like that, to be
- 2:18:05honest. Like, but you know, I'm pretty
- 2:18:08sure there's people that don't really like people that were in
- 2:18:11the past that was in our kindred, which that's fine too.
- 2:18:13I don't really care. But you know, everybody does
- 2:18:16stuff differently and we find inspiration.
- 2:18:18Like I went to numerous rituals from different kindreds and
- 2:18:23they've taught me valuable lessons about how they did
- 2:18:26ritual, which in the end to me, honestly, going to these rituals
- 2:18:32and gatherings and meeting these different people helps shape me
- 2:18:35into the Gidea that I did not know that I was becoming when
- 2:18:41River Pine first started to make me be the person that I am now
- 2:18:47and shaped me into what I do for community as well as how we do
- 2:18:52ritual structure and how our kindred or tribe is set up.
- 2:18:56You know, people inspire us in different ways.
- 2:18:59And sometimes they teach us good things and sometimes they teach
- 2:19:02us things that we realize that we don't want in our life.
- 2:19:06And it gives us, you know, everybody is our our guide to
- 2:19:09something that what we're going to be in the outcome.
- 2:19:13And it can be positive or negative.
- 2:19:15It can be, you know, in the middle of the road type of
- 2:19:17stuff. And it just, it is what it is,
- 2:19:19you know? This all ties into the whole
- 2:19:21luck aspect of things too. Thank you, Blake.
- 2:19:24I was just thinking the same thing.
- 2:19:26Luck. It's not inherently good or bad.
- 2:19:27Lessons are not inherently good or bad.
- 2:19:29It's it's what do you do with the, with, with the instruction,
- 2:19:33with the lesson? Yeah, and that's why from
- 2:19:39everybody, like if I go, if I go to another person's gathering or
- 2:19:42some of that, I usually take weight.
- 2:19:44They just like she said, they've only said here is that when I
- 2:19:48get when I go to different ritual stuff, I look at what
- 2:19:52they're doing, I look at what we're doing.
- 2:19:54But I I won't do exactly how they do it, but I will take will
- 2:19:59Nuggets with me as I go. Yeah, if that's the appropriate
- 2:20:04thing to do, right, 'cause I mean, listen, if I were to go to
- 2:20:07East Texas tomorrow and, or, or next month or whenever, right,
- 2:20:12And, and be a part of Fridgar's Livka, you know what I mean?
- 2:20:15Or whatever. And then, and then, and then
- 2:20:18Eric comes in the next week and, and sees what we do for cigar
- 2:20:21bloat. There's gonna be differences.
- 2:20:23There's gotta be different things.
- 2:20:25It's, it's a, it's a time of year where each tribe or each
- 2:20:28group or each collective is doing something for that time of
- 2:20:31year, but they're doing it in different ways.
- 2:20:33Maybe maybe one group learns something from the other and,
- 2:20:36and vice versa. And then we take that
- 2:20:38information or that or that knowledge or that sharing or
- 2:20:41whatever back and we talk and we, and we say, Hey, this is
- 2:20:44what these people did. You know, I'm not saying to, to,
- 2:20:47to change something just for the sake of changing it.
- 2:20:50If it ain't broke, don't have that kind of thing.
- 2:20:52However, if something is inspiring enough to say, wow,
- 2:20:57this moved me, right, What? You know, we don't want to
- 2:21:01compromise the tradition. Of a group of.
- 2:21:04Of just for the sake. Like it's kind of like going to
- 2:21:08the potluck and you find recipes that you like, you want to
- 2:21:11borrow it. Like say you mind sharing,
- 2:21:14right? Like a recipe?
- 2:21:18Like a meal or something that needs, you know, it's like
- 2:21:22sloppy recipes. Does anyone ever have visions or
- 2:21:28dreams from after having a ritual or a bloat or whatever
- 2:21:34you want to call it? I have.
- 2:21:38That's not something. I have, yes.
- 2:21:40There. I have that.
- 2:21:43I have that, yes. What'd you say, Eric?
- 2:21:48So that's not something I'm going to discuss on the air.
- 2:21:50Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I'll, I'll say I have,
- 2:21:52but I won't necessarily go into like.
- 2:21:54That's what I meant. That's what I meant to like, I
- 2:21:56was going to say it was a yes or no question, you know?
- 2:21:59Since we've all kind of simmered down, now I want to check off
- 2:22:02one more box on the bingo thing for whoever's got their
- 2:22:04scorecards ready. Are we playing four quarters?
- 2:22:08The Y matters. Purpose.
- 2:22:11The Y matters. That's why.
- 2:22:14You know, I look at how other people do things and their
- 2:22:18ritual and I figure out their why.
- 2:22:21What is the purpose Is it? Are we trying to facilitate
- 2:22:25connection to the gods and goddesses?
- 2:22:27OK, we have our mechanism for it.
- 2:22:30Let me see if the way they meet that why is any more effective
- 2:22:35than the way we meet the why. And if so, why is that?
- 2:22:39And then I'll use that to refine our way.
- 2:22:41I won't replace our way, but I will refine it.
- 2:22:44I'll hone it and find craft it like a Craftsman who is working
- 2:22:48towards a masterwork piece. I will sit there and just drive
- 2:22:52that in until I get it exactly where I need it.
- 2:22:55I'm dialing it in for our tribe and the way we do things.
- 2:22:59And so, yeah, absolutely. And I will share certain
- 2:23:02elements of how we do things for other people so that they can do
- 2:23:05the same thing. They can figure out their why.
- 2:23:07And but I won't share everything because I don't want them just
- 2:23:11to crib our stuff. I want them to figure out the
- 2:23:14why, figure out how to feed the why and chase the why.
- 2:23:17That's where knowledge is. You know, knowledge isn't in
- 2:23:20following a recipe. Knowledge is.
- 2:23:24You know, wisdom is learning to look at what you got, figuring
- 2:23:27out what you could make, you know, dial that in.
- 2:23:30Yeah, knowledge versus wisdom, right?
- 2:23:32Knowledge is knowing the recipe. Wisdom is, do I, do I cook This
- 2:23:38is, is, is the recipe good for the people?
- 2:23:40Are they going to be able to eat what I'm cooking?
- 2:23:42Are they going to be able to absorb the meal that I provide?
- 2:23:46If not, like, then the knowledge doesn't really mean anything
- 2:23:50because oh, I've got this, but it doesn't.
- 2:23:52It doesn't have a practical application.
- 2:23:54There's no purpose for knowing it.
- 2:23:56It's just vacant knowledge at that point.
- 2:24:00I know something for the sake of knowing it.
- 2:24:02Big whoop, right? So the purpose, yes, I, I
- 2:24:08believe what you're saying, Eric, is, is is wise, right?
- 2:24:12Know your why, why I've talked, I've know I've talked about this
- 2:24:16countless times before too, right?
- 2:24:17Purpose over intention. You might have the greatest
- 2:24:21intention behind learning everything from A-Z.
- 2:24:27Well, what's the purpose? Where is your purpose in
- 2:24:30learning this? Are you going to apply all these
- 2:24:32things to the betterment of your people or just is it just to
- 2:24:36have a notch on your belt to say I know this blah blah blah?
- 2:24:39Right to figure out what the why is and the how will make itself
- 2:24:44clear. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:24:51We're gonna hit all of my catch phrases by the time we're done
- 2:24:53here. It's a thing.
- 2:24:57It's a thing, Max. Oof da, oof da.
- 2:25:03It's a thing, Yeah, the drinking game.
- 2:25:10Well, I'm gonna say. Wise ever do the drinking game
- 2:25:12to my YouTube channel you will die.
- 2:25:14Oh, yeah. I'll, I'll be the first to
- 2:25:16attend and probably the first to leave.
- 2:25:20Sometimes you only know you're wise.
- 2:25:23Two things ain't made for everyone.
- 2:25:25Yeah, I mean, that's and that's the beauty of it.
- 2:25:28It's, you know, it's it's not cookie cutter, it's not
- 2:25:31universal. You know, one size does not fit
- 2:25:33all and and that's what you have to, that's what we have to take
- 2:25:41away from it. It's, you know, Kevin says that
- 2:25:45I missed the UPG warning. No, but you did I I did do the
- 2:25:50whole 321. Let's jam before we went.
- 2:25:51Live. Yeah, you did.
- 2:25:52Yeah, you did. Yeah, you did.
- 2:25:55Yeah, yeah. Big UPG warning at the top of
- 2:25:58the show. What is it?
- 2:26:02An ossipope? That was the other one.
- 2:26:04I asked the ASA Pope. I am no ASA Pope.
- 2:26:10Now, and neither am I neither, neither are we, you know, like,
- 2:26:13and that's it gets lost a little bit because we we get into this
- 2:26:17like rhythm or this, you know, pattern of doing things.
- 2:26:21You know, I come on here every week and I do this, this, this
- 2:26:25show and I, you know, I, I try to give a disclaimer, especially
- 2:26:30on the regular stuff like, hey, you know, this is my view on
- 2:26:33things. It's, it's not a reflection on
- 2:26:35the overarching heathen. It's not even a reflection on
- 2:26:39the people that I tend to, to, to, to run with per SE.
- 2:26:44It's, it's, it's my view on things.
- 2:26:45So take that as you will. Do your own research, find your
- 2:26:48way, it, you know, find a way or make a way.
- 2:26:51But, but do your own diligence, right?
- 2:26:53Like do your own research, find it out if if it fits for you.
- 2:26:59Well, here's one for you, Jesse. I know we're still doing
- 2:27:01comments and stuff, but you know, we were talking about
- 2:27:03predestination earlier, right? And we were talking about, you
- 2:27:07know, kind of approach on the gods and stuff.
- 2:27:09Well, there's a saying that has always bugged me and that's
- 2:27:12everything happens for a reason. That's a predestination way of
- 2:27:15looking at things. That's that's like driven in the
- 2:27:17Western thought. My counter to that is that it's
- 2:27:22not that everything happens for a reason.
- 2:27:24It's that you must find the reason and everything that
- 2:27:26happens. Oh, oh.
- 2:27:31Find the reason why it happened. Find the reason.
- 2:27:34Find the why? What's the logic, what's the
- 2:27:36wisdom? What's the lesson that you can
- 2:27:37learn from this? Because it's not necessarily set
- 2:27:39out, so sometimes you have to. Well, you were there at that
- 2:27:43moment to, to, to be present when it happened.
- 2:27:48You could have been anywhere else.
- 2:27:50You were there. Find the reason.
- 2:27:53Yeah, on the why anyway, goes back to the very.
- 2:27:57That deck you to thought for me, sorry.
- 2:28:00Yeah. I thought we were going to go
- 2:28:01down another rabbit. Hole.
- 2:28:03No, we're good. I'll stop it there.
- 2:28:07We might just leave that, we might just, we might just.
- 2:28:09We might just put that as the the.
- 2:28:13Tagline. Yeah, the tagline.
- 2:28:14Find the why. Say it one more time, Eric.
- 2:28:17It's not that. Everything.
- 2:28:19It's not that it's not everything happens for a reason.
- 2:28:24It's find the reason in everything that happens.
- 2:28:29All right. But you got to pay attention
- 2:28:31though, got to have that fight for it because some people just
- 2:28:34go through their life just going through the motions.
- 2:28:36Then there's like, I don't know why this keeps on happening and
- 2:28:39then all of a sudden they don't see the big picture.
- 2:28:42That's. Great.
- 2:28:43They ask, they ask, they ask outside.
- 2:28:46Why? Why is this happening to me?
- 2:28:47They they, they ask the go the they asked the spiritual leader,
- 2:28:50they asked the person they asked to shine.
- 2:28:51Why am I sick? Why am I sick?
- 2:28:55Figured out. Figured out.
- 2:28:57Figured out. Why are you asking me?
- 2:29:01You know, and that's, that's a hard thing.
- 2:29:04Like, don't get me wrong, like I know common sense isn't very
- 2:29:07common and like some people see stuff from a spiritual level,
- 2:29:12you know that some people can see and some people can't.
- 2:29:15You know, it doesn't matter if it's a mentally, physically
- 2:29:19thing for the the why when it comes to people and stuff like
- 2:29:22that. But there's some stuff I see
- 2:29:26these days and I'm just like, wow, I'm like, I was like, I
- 2:29:32don't, I don't know why that happened, but here we are.
- 2:29:36It's like that's why we we do or don't have nice things, you
- 2:29:40know, or it's like, I just see something.
- 2:29:42I'm like, well. I'm.
- 2:29:44Yeah, yeah. It's like I'm y'all have a good
- 2:29:46day. Like I'm on my head on out.
- 2:29:49Like I don't know where you get off that, but I'm gonna go that
- 2:29:51way. Have a good day.
- 2:29:53It's good. And you know, as a a goalie or a
- 2:29:57gibeah or a leader, so to speak, you know, at times you have to
- 2:30:01be a peacekeeper and then other times you just have to put your
- 2:30:03foot down and be like, Nope, no, ma'am, not happening.
- 2:30:08You know it's. A unique, it's a unique place to
- 2:30:10find oneself in when you know, there's, there's things
- 2:30:14happening and you know, it's, it's for the well-being of, of,
- 2:30:20of your people, right? You, you, you look out for them.
- 2:30:23And then sometimes the steps to take for their well-being is to
- 2:30:27be harsh. I guess there's, there's this,
- 2:30:34there's this degree of tough love that that comes at, at some
- 2:30:39point in time, like you're, you're not getting it and you've
- 2:30:43got to go through that ordeal in order to get it.
- 2:30:47And I'm not going to cuddle you through this.
- 2:30:50I'll be there when you come out of it, maybe to pick you up or
- 2:30:53to kind of guide you back. But at the same time, like
- 2:30:55there's a lesson here that only you are intended to learn here.
- 2:31:00And I can't learn it for you, you know.
- 2:31:06And, you know, being a Govi or a give you, you know, it takes its
- 2:31:10toll not just on, you know, your tribe or your kindred, but like,
- 2:31:15you know, in a way, you know, you're still like a husband or a
- 2:31:19wife, you have children or, you know, you have some form of
- 2:31:24legacy and it just takes its toll either way it goes on
- 2:31:28stuff. And you have to find a a balance
- 2:31:30with it all to be fair, you know, to do your role of your
- 2:31:34obligation and things like that. And you know, it's hard to find
- 2:31:39a balance with it all, especially dealing with large
- 2:31:42communities or even smaller communities and you know,
- 2:31:45helping in different ways as well as keep your home life and
- 2:31:50your work life and everything all separated without bleeding
- 2:31:54into one another. Because you know, there's some
- 2:31:56people that just let one thing get away from the other and put
- 2:31:59it to the wayside. And it's really not, it's not a
- 2:32:02positive thing. And it's hard to keep a balance
- 2:32:04with it at all. As well as teaching and being a
- 2:32:09content creator teacher, which you know, I know both of y'all
- 2:32:13guys, y'all love teaching about stuff.
- 2:32:15Like for me, it's like I'm a good storyteller.
- 2:32:19Teaching is not really my favorite thing, you know?
- 2:32:22Storytelling is my favorite way to teach.
- 2:32:25I know, but you're just, you're, you're a very good teacher.
- 2:32:29Both of y'all are in my book. And for me, like, I'm, I'm
- 2:32:32pretty good at it, you know, but at the same time, like, I think
- 2:32:36my stuff's boring and I'm not trying to be negative about it,
- 2:32:38but it's just, you know, to me with the Norse faith, so many
- 2:32:42people have talked about it repetitively.
- 2:32:45And I'm like, well, why should I do it?
- 2:32:46And I could just share what Eric's done or what Jesse's
- 2:32:50done, you know? And, you know, I don't have to
- 2:32:53teach, you know, But I've come to find out, actually, people
- 2:32:56like the way I teach. So I was like, OK, I mean, we're
- 2:32:59not going to be here forever. Yeah, I know we're not going to
- 2:33:02be here. We're all around the same age,
- 2:33:04so you know. Like, let's all do our part.
- 2:33:07Let's all, let's all kind of, let's all exhibit our own main,
- 2:33:13you know, let's all feed our own Giffrain lately.
- 2:33:16Let's all do our own part to leave a story to be told.
- 2:33:24Let, let our songs be sung amongst our own hearts, right?
- 2:33:28Let let the songs of area be sung amongst the Frigati.
- 2:33:31Let the songs of Amelia be sung amongst River Pine and, and, and
- 2:33:36let my songs be sung amongst whoever, wherever you know they
- 2:33:39land. Like let's, let's do our part.
- 2:33:42Let's hail the doers. Hail the doers.
- 2:33:46You know. Maybe one day we'll have
- 2:33:49runestones of us, of our deeds that we done that.
- 2:33:54'D be mighty that would that would that would be a mighty
- 2:33:56declaration of of a legacy right to be left like to have a
- 2:33:59runestone runestone carved to one's memory like.
- 2:34:04That would be I think that's pretty.
- 2:34:05I will be happy if in two generations Ridgar is still here
- 2:34:10and somebody remembers my name. I know because they've talked
- 2:34:14about that and that's like a three generation thing to keep
- 2:34:17all that going like they. Regeneration rule.
- 2:34:20It takes one generation to introduce, the second to
- 2:34:23perpetuate, the third to instill.
- 2:34:29Well, I'm, I'm, I'm confident that at at least with the
- 2:34:33audience that I have here today, you know, celebrating 7 years,
- 2:34:38you know, that's, you know, I, I think about how old was I when I
- 2:34:41was seven years old, you know, and how long ago was seven years
- 2:34:45and then seven years prior and prior.
- 2:34:47Where were we all seven years ago and then seven years before
- 2:34:52that and then when we were seven and everything?
- 2:34:54And then what do we remember about that time of our lives?
- 2:34:57We can all hopefully remember that portion of our, of our
- 2:35:00existence, you know, and then seven years from now and what
- 2:35:04we're going to be doing, It's, it's, it's, it's, it's
- 2:35:08incredibly strong webs that we weave, I hope.
- 2:35:17What's the theory anyway? That's the theory, anyway.
- 2:35:20That's the hope, right? That's the idea.
- 2:35:22That's. What we're shooting for.
- 2:35:24People talking on here and they're talking about addiction
- 2:35:28and sobriety and. Whole different ball game.
- 2:35:32Oh, I know, but I'm sitting there listening to what they're
- 2:35:34talking about. I'm slowly actually working on a
- 2:35:38book for addiction and recovery book that has a workbook tied
- 2:35:43into it that I'm slowly revising right now and trying to get the
- 2:35:48fine tunings on it so I could publish the book.
- 2:35:52So for set the red and crushing, crushing.
- 2:35:59Nihilism. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:36:01Struggling with addiction. Yeah.
- 2:36:03So this is this is a topic that could, that could, that could be
- 2:36:08dedicated to a whole entire thing.
- 2:36:11And in respect of my guest's time, I would like to wrap this
- 2:36:16up and, and give people a chance to, to get back to their home
- 2:36:19life because, you know, you all were kind enough to take time
- 2:36:23out of your evening and I didn't even give a time.
- 2:36:25But you've been here for over 2 1/2 hours.
- 2:36:28That is tremendous. It is more than I could have
- 2:36:31ever asked for. I owe each of you much more.
- 2:36:38So 2 1/2 * 3, you know, whatever I can do to, to make up the
- 2:36:45time, I, I appreciate it, but I do want to give you back your
- 2:36:48time because it is late and I appreciate it all.
- 2:36:54So I'm going to end the live stream for the three of you that
- 2:36:56are here on screen. Just give me two or three
- 2:36:59minutes afterwards to kind of decompress and, and, and all
- 2:37:03that and say my farewells. But for everybody that's
