- speaker-0: You know, I and by the way, do you do you refer to yourself as a vegan? speaker-1: native vegan, I think is the right term. speaker-0: Yeah, what when people try to pronounce and say you're a vegan issue? speaker-1: No, definitely not vegan. I think I just love vacan way too much. speaker-0: You know, it's funny, I've had people I say I'm a vegan and they look at me, wait, are you you sure you mean that? And I said, Yes, it's Vegas born like the golden knights, you know. Yeah. When did that phrase come around? When did you first notice people saying a vegan? speaker-1: Well, I've known it my whole life, I I would say No, this is way, way before them. speaker-0: Yeah. It's not just golden nights. This is back when you can have a desert tortoise as a pet. Yeah. speaker-1: Yes, back when the freeway didn't go to the Santa Fe Casino, it was a one way road actually. Yes. speaker-0: in the day. In the day. So it must be fun for you. Now here you are, you know, a professional in the healthcare field watching your native home blast off. I mean and healthcare. And you know it's funny. I wanted to ask you about this because I I brought it up to the lieutenant governor. He was on recently, and I brought it up to a on actually all our guests. When they keep talking about how bad our health care is in the valley, how do you respond to that? Do you feel that's truthful? speaker-1: No, I don't think so. I mean, my mom is a nurse currently. she works for Centennial Hospital and over at actually mostly Henderson Hospital and then sometimes Centennial. Okay. And I think that, you know, people like her are helping provide great, great health care. We even have high schools now here in the Valley. My kids go to Magnon High School or one graduated from there, but their schools even offer biomedical science. So you can be be in the nursing program while you're in high school even. And learn about your medical field. Yeah. And I think that with that, you know, kind of goes hand in hand of we're we're teaching kids from the young age to start, you know, focusing on their their opportunities for career, which then helps with, you know, healthcare. And then, you know, even today, specific to my world, in veterans, the VA has really made a lot of strides to, you know, help help our veterans and our community and just, you know, with community care, et cetera, really receive some some great care. That they maybe were not receiving prior. speaker-0: Well, and we ta as we talk about the veterans, I mean we have a very large population of veterans in this valley. Yeah. I mean that's actually one thing I noticed right away when I became a a vegan now. You vegan? I'm a vegan. Well I actually I th I heard I have to be here ten years. That's what I was told. There's a cutoff at ten years. speaker-1: Okay. I think the average person living in Vegas is like three point five years. And that's inclusive of myself who's been here. I won't tell you how many decades, but I was here a long I've been here a long time. speaker-0: I'm average. I haven't been called average too often in life, but okay, I'm I'm an average. Thank you, Lisa. But you know, you know, when I've heard and actually I guess the joke was if you want good health care, go to the airport and go to California. And I think that that I mean, yeah, I I just don't think that even applies anymore. I had to go through a a health situation last year and my stay in the hospital, my bed was new, the equipment was new. speaker-1: Or above average. speaker-0: The the you know the nurses were all very calm. Doctor, top doctor, who's a Navy surgeon. I mean, I just didn't feel that way. I went to physical therapy. My physical therapy people were top notch. I I just this these jokes I I think are of the past. But I would also say, and I don't know if you would agree with it, that the there's a different set of problems that we may have versus a place like California. Sure. Ours is an expansion problem. We have grown so fast. That you're trying to keep up. And theirs is no, there's a massive healthcare system put in place with a population that is problematic. So that that's my opinion. Of course I'm very pro Nevada, so it's speaker-1: Well, I mean, I think it's we've we're working on expansion, right? I mean, everywhere you look, you're seeing one of those quick ER places pop up. So you're not, you know, destined to have to go sit in a regular hospital ER for so long. You can go to quick cares, you can go to other places and find so much more healthcare, I think, than you ever could before.
