- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I'm so good.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I've had I'd say seven coffees.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Seven coffee.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And you're drinking one right now from the I'm drinking one right now.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: This 2 pm.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I think it bodes well.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna crash, but I don't know when.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Hopefully after the podcast.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Hopefully.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Fingers crossed, although no promises.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Why have you had seven coffees?
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Uh cheers.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Um famously, coffee makes you not tired and has no side effects.
- 2:09unknown: So it's good.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Except giddiness, apparently.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, except giddiness.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: How are you?
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: How's your day been?
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Uh pretty quiet.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I literally I was working so late last night that I slept in late today.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: So like I'm I'm trying to wake myself.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I've I've been awake for a few hours, but I'm trying to wake myself up still.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: I should have had some coffee as well.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I well, I was about to recommend seven coffees.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: One recommendation I would say drink seven coffees.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Makes you feel if I had seven coffees, basically I can only have lattes because if I have a co even if I have a normal coffee, like that goes like that, that's like that will keep me up for like hours and hours.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: I I will stay, I'll be awake until this time tomorrow.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Purely positives.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Purely positive.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Think about the productivity, think about nighttime work.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: You could you can get so much done.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Having said that, I've had seven coffees today.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Haven't done a thing.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Haven't done a thing.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Just sitting here vibrating.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Just like waiting to be on the podcast.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, be honest.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Just reading up on the Pink Panther as well.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, and that's what I do every day, regardless of whether I have a podcast about it or not.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I like to make sure that I'm just keeping the knowledge tight, keeping myself sharp on details about the Pink Panther story.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, specifically this one.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Only this one.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I mean I've never seen another one.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: I haven't.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: This is the only this is my only reference point for the idea of the Pink Panther only exists in relation to Steve Martin um and 2000 and the year 2006.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So you haven't even seen the sequel to this one?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I have seen the sequel to this one.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Oh okay.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Oh no, I mean the the franchise in general.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge supporter of the franchise in general.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Um I just don't, I don't you could tell me that it didn't exist before that and then they made it up for that film.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I yeah, I would have nothing, I have nothing in my head that that disagrees with you.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've never to be honest, I've never seen the originals either.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: So there we go.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And why would you after seeing this film?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Why would ya?
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, maybe in a different maybe for a different reason that you're thinking.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, so you've you've come on to talk about the Pink Panther, the 2006 version of Steve Martin.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, what is your history with it then?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Okay, I have seen this film, I'm gonna be so honest right now, and this is so embarrassing.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I've seen this film, I would say, upwards of 20 times.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: From beginning to end, every single scene I can pretty much um mouth along to.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I before this, I hadn't seen it for maybe six or seven years.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: But when I was younger, me, my brother, my brother's best friend Joseph, my cousin Rafi, my younger sister, there'd often be sort of like a group sleepover vibe.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: We'd we'd argue about what film to watch for about three hours.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: We'd go, There's only one thing for it, Pink Panther.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Or we'd watch a film and be disappointed by the film and be like, well, it's only it's only midnight and we still have time to make it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is it's very short.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: It's very short and so tight.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Tight, tight, tight.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, every scene has its purpose.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Not there's not a second wasted in this.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: It gags galore.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I will agree there are a lot of gags in this movie.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: We quote it the whole time as well.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot of um there are a lot there are just a lot of classic lines in the film.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: There are so many, there are so many witty moments in the sequel as well.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: There's an amazing, I mean, you haven't had the chance.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen it.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: But in the sequel, there is uh I'm not gonna, if this isn't a spoiler, but there is an amazing scene um where they use a shampoo that has johoba in it, and um they do a dance for about I would say upwards of three minutes, just saying by the chojoba.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And that is uh that is obviously what I'm saying.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: There is Steve Martin and Academy Award-nominated actor Jean Renault um dancing around the room saying chojoba.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: You don't find that in and in just any film.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: You really don't.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: So we often, and they do this.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: This is the dance they do.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's that's a different film.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: That's for another podcast.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: That's for another podcast.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I'll return.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I'll return and do the sequel.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: You'll have to you'll have to return and do the sequel, yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I've never heard anyone talk about the sequel whatsoever.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: I know nothing about what that even is about.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: No, culturally, culturally, it may as well not have happened.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but to me, it changed my life.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I literally forgot there was a sequel until I was looking this one up.
- 6:56unknown: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: I had no I had no memory of there being a sequel.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Many people have no memory that the first one happened.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I remember the first one happening and then like bombing, basically.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: It did bomb, but also at in as I was looking it up for this, which I didn't know, it made so much money.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Oh loads of money.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: It just did everyone hated it, but everyone saw it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: It made 160 million dollars.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: What?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: On a budget of 80.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Are you joking?
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: It doubled its it doubled its budget.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And it I mean, what is going on?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Anyway, uh have taste.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: That's what's going on.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: So, okay, so since you've seen it upwards of 20 times, do you want to explain the basic premise of this one?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: If you have had the misfortune of missing out on the Pink Panther one starring Steve Martin released 2006, um, basically what it is is uh Steve Martin, this is all set in this is all set in Paris, France.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, and obviously they made the brilliant artistic decision that everyone would speak English, but in a terrible French accent.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Ummediately you're hooked.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Absolutely incredible.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know how or why this has happened, but everyone's speaking French in a French accent.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: No one speaks a word of French the entire film.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but they're all in French accents.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Steve Martin plays um detective Jacques Clouseau, who is hired by um the French like chief of police guy uh because he's so bad, yeah, to try at the the plan, which does not make sense, is this French chief of police is like, if I hire someone really bad, then they'll fuck it up and I'll sweep in at the last minute and take glory.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: To which I mean I would pose the question, why not sweep in at the beginning and just solve it really quickly?
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And that would be working.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: That would be having to work.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's uh Kevin Klein, obviously, uh, another academy academy award winner.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So Academy Award winner! Yeah, amazing.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, this this film, but I mean we'll get to this, but this film is star-studded.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: And I mean so many people in this.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, we'll come to this, but I'm not joking.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Beyonce's in this film.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Stars in this film.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Amazing at the peak of her acting career.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: It is, yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: It's incredible.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: There is an original song by Beyoncé that she performs in this film, and you're telling me it's not good.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: And the song is good as well.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: The song is incredible.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: I uh is going round in my head around around in my head right now.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Well, me.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Incredible.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: And that her performance is so great.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Anyway, back to the point.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: There's some there's some um very complicated, tenuous thing with a with a football match.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: I phase out for this bit.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Um, someone gets shot at a football match.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Basically, the pink panther in the Pink Panther is a diamond.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: It's a diamond.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Which does sort of beg the question, why is this uh the Pink Panther?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: There's no Pink Panther in it.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Well, it's something to do with the original.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: That's all I know.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Like the Pink Panther in the original is a diamond as well.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, is it a diamond?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a cartoon cat.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: That that's just the like opening credit thing.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: See, this is this is where I fall apart because obviously I'm getting everything from this one film.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: I have no idea about the the history and the folklore associated with that.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to look it up now.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: The diamond is called the Pink Panther because the a floor- the floor at its center, when viewed closely, is said to resemble a leaping Pink Panther.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 10:53unknown: I should.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So they just like drop that for the for this one.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: I have no I haven't I don't have a background, I don't have an academic background in the Pink Panthers.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, do you know how many films there are in the uh of the Pink Panthers?
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Two, four, six, eight, nine of the original series.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Nine.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: But then only two of of the Steve Martin series.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Um I hate to say this, that doesn't seem fair.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: No.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Let's have nine.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Let's have a few.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: It ran for 30 years the original series.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: The Peter Sellers one.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: I should watch them, but I don't want to ruin I don't want to ruin what I have with the new ones.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I had no idea.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: I thought there were like two of the two of those ones as well.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Isn't that also a children's cartoon that is literally about the the big mountain?
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: There must be.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: That must be what you're thinking of.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Like when you've got anyway, in this, it's a it's a diamond.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Diamond goes missing.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Um, a guy gets shot, and basically Jacques Clouseau, Steve, aka Steve Martin in a French accent, and his accomplice, Jean Renault, um, one of France's France's finest factors, have to um track down the Pink Panther and find out who the killer is.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Um apart from that, I don't think plotting wise, there's not much going on.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: No, there's not a whole lot going on.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: There's not I will say the guy that gets shot is uh Jason Statham.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah!
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Totally, that's completely right.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: I cannot dispute that.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: That is a fact.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I forgot, like I not that I forgot, I didn't know he was in this.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Does he have a single line?
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: No.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: He is Jason Statham is in this film for 15 seconds, does not have a line.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: His role is is corpse.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: He's like an extra in this film.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: He's like the football manager or something, isn't he?
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, imagine how much they paid him to do that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, I don't know.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Extortionate.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Surely.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: So he he's got he's in this for like, and he has no lines.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And then there's also Clive Owen with no Clive Owen's sort of like a James Bond.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: And apparently it was just a like a nod to because like at the time he was up for contention to play Bond.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's actually very clever and intertextual.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Um, a meta.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: It's very meta, yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it's so many layers.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: That's the thing about this film, it operates on so many different levels.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: It does not leave a single stone unturned in its in its just admirable search for comedy.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Um I'm just imagining that he he did this and then the bomb people saw it were like, oh no, we can't put him as one.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: This is awful.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: I mean you can't you can't really move on from from um from this film.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I think in terms of acting, no one in this film, all extremely successful high-profile actors before this, yeah.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: No, one of them's Beyonce.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: After this, I don't think any of these people have been in anything good ever since.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: I can't think of anything Beyonce's been in since this.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: No, this this might be the last time that that that we have Beyonce on film playing well.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, what alone?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: That alone should secure this place.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: She did this and she's like, I can't top it.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna finish here.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Quit while you're ahead.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: And she hasn't done anything since that.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: No, no, she's disappeared.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know where she's gone.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: She's now an unknown.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so uh who else is in this?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, so we've got uh Steve Martins, the lead, Kevin Klein as the chief inspector, Jean Renault as Steve Martin's assistant, Emily Emily Mortimer.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Emily Mortimer.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: The love interest.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: The love interest who honestly she has a rough time in this film.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: She has a real rough time.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Um I will say that the the gender politics of the film is not great.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: It's not great.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not so I'm not saying it's great.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: No, I know.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I'm yeah, I didn't think you were saying it was there's a different time's 2006, and also it's France.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: It's France, come on, loosen up.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: I mean Is it France?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: No.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Can you imagine how little of this film was filmed in France?
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I would say maybe one scene.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Potentially.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I I don't even like I've got to look it up where it was actually filmed.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: If we're lucky, one scene.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: There's no, there's no there's no way.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I just I don't think if I was the French government, I wouldn't have let them film this in France.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: So they used the little Europe backlot on the Universal Studios in in California.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: You can tell.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: And then they also use Prague.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Um Prague?
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, sure.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: No, why not?
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Why not use Prague?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: The Paris of the East.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: The Paris of the East, yeah, the Paris of Eastern Europe.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I think people say that.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure people say that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I've been to Prague, I don't ever think of it as Paris, looking like Paris.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: No, I I I don't either.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Um but you know, you have to save budget because you have gone all out on cast.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: If I was the producer of this film, I would be going, we've spent millions of dollars.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: 80 million.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: 80 million dollars we've spent on.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Where did 80 million go?
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: It has to have gone on the cast.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: 100% gone on the cast and some incredible stunts.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Let's be real.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Some of the stunts in this film are sublime.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Such as?
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Such as when he spins that globe off of its hinge and it bounces down the steps of some big building in Paris.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: That's fun.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: When he doesn't he fall out of the window into the river in hospital at the end?
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, Kevin Klein does.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Kevin Klein falls out of a of a tall building into the Seine.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Funny.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: There's a chandelier that smashes.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: There's a chandelier that smashes.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: That's at least a couple mil, surely.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Surely.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Like we have to do this.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's essential.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: And you know, you've got Beyonce standing there.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: How much do you reckon she made then?
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: How much do you reckon?
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Beyonce, do you know?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, five.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Five mil, probably.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Probably.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Easy.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: I bet I bet she made more than like Kevin Klein and John Renault.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, surely.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: She's Beyonce.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: But she's beyond okay, yeah, she's Beyonce, but this is 2006 as well.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: This is not like Yeah, but all you'd have to do.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: 2006, I'm pretty sure, hasn't she just released B Day?
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: She's she's flying high.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: She's big, but she's not like Beyonce now.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: She's not Beyonce now.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: She's not Beyonce now, but I feel like she'd just have to go into in negotiation, she'd go into the room and they'd be like, we'll pay you one million dollars, and she'd be like, I'm Beyonce.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Like, oh yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know what as well?
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: This came out, this would have come out the same month as Dream Girls.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: The same month!
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah there's nothing not to love about this film.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: What a back to back.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: What a back to back.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: What about they should do a they should do all of Beyonce's they should do a like an all-nighter Austin what else is she in?
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Austin Powers, Dream Girls, and this.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: What a Lion King.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Don't forget The Lion King.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: I want the Lion King, for sure.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: And The Lion King, but you don't get to see her, so it's not the same.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: No, it's not the same.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: It's not the same.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: You don't get a uh uh performance of of an original track in what is meant to be Versailles or something.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Or the Louvre, but what is really a big building in Prague.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: We do not get that in the Lang King.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Or that was the Europe or that was the uh Little Europe backlot, maybe.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe that was Little Europe.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: Who's to say?
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: They do such a good job.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, they did they actually did reshoots in in uh Vancouver as well.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Wow, this is a inter See, this is international production is bringing countries.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: It went all over the place.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: All over the place.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: It's gorgeous.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: It's gorgeous to see.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: That's where the money's gone.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Um okay, so yeah, you said you've seen it like 20 times, up into 20 times, but not for a few.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: What how come why why haven't you seen it for hiatus?
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Why did you go on a hiatus for it?
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Well I guess that at a certain time you you you put away, you move on, you grow up, you think I'm better than this now.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: You're wrong.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: It turns out.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: I was completely wrong to think that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: So it you loved it just as much this rewatch as you did the first time as that the first 20 times.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: So real with you right now, I'm being so real.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: I fucking pissed myself.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: I thought it was so funny.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: It's so funny.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Sorry, this is a funny film.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Wait, what I need to know your other still your sense of humour as like different.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: This is the only film I find funny.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: This is the only film you find funny.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: There are no other funny films.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: None.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: None.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: I'm willing to go on record.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: If you've met if you've made a comedy film and it's not the Pink Panther 2009 starring Steve Martin, you failed.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Wait.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: What was the f what was do you remember your first time seeing this then?
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: What like how did you find it even?
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: I screamed laughing.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I I yeah, it was like the funniest thing I've ever seen.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but how did you find where did you find it?
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Why did I find it?
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: When did you come across it?
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: This is post-release, definitely.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: Post-DVD release.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Because you were like, what, like six when it came out as well or something.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: I was eight.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: See, I was joking when I said six, but like you were barely older.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: No, I was eight, which is actually, I would say, probably the best age to see this film.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: If you're thinking, am I the right age to see this film?
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: You're listening to this, you're like, Am I the right age?
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Um the answer is yes, if you are eight.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, do you know how old I was when this came out?
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Do you know why I didn't see it?
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: How old were you 17?
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: No, but the other thing I will say is there's no wrong age to see this film.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Because I definitely watched this film in when I was 17, probably once.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: And I definitely.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I've never not enjoyed watching this film.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: I will say I didn't like it.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: What?
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: We'll get that out early early.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, well t tell me everything.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: I it I found it very childish.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I don't think that I think the story is really bad.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: The gags are not that great.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: And Steve Martin is ridiculous.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And then what I'm hearing there, several, several positives.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Disgu disguised as negatives.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Childish.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: It returns you to a childish state of bliss.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Where you don't have to think about anything.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Is Steve Martin ridiculous?
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: There's a scene where he goes into what he thinks is a soundproofed room and farts.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: And the fart is amplified for the orchestra standing outside the room.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, that's true.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: But it's also funny.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: That is funny.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: What was the other criticism?
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: It's bad.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just said the gags are bad.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: The gags are bad.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: But in a way that's good.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: How do how do I um you know you know when someone falls over in the street and you're like, that's funny.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: This is like um the film version of someone falling over in the street.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: No, it's not clever.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't mean anything.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: No, it's not worth your your time, and you feel bad about liking it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: And you you laugh and you think I shouldn't be laughing right now because I'm better than this.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: But you do laugh because no one's better than this.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: No one's better than the Pink Panther.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: The weird thing is, it's so like like based on your stand-up, it's so different to like everything about like what you're the way you do your stand-up and everything.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Like, it's not any like it doesn't seem like your type of humour.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: No, well, another thing you have to know is that I I definitely don't find me funny.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: So I'm doing Well, it's a good thing you became a stand-up then.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm just hoping other people do.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: I would if I had the raw natural talent to be able to pull even someone like Jean Renault's performance in this film.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: I think you could do John Renault's performance.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: So incredible.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: To have the to have the goal to perform this part in the way that Jean Renault does.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: It's so funny to me.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: I just it so earnest, doesn't it earnestly, doesn't he?
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: It's such a release.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: I found I find it such a release from thinking about anything.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Um honestly.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I get that, yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: It is an it's pure, it's pure escapism.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: And there's something there's something so deeply, beautifully camp about um spending$80 million um producing something terrible with Beyoncé in it.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: We all wish that we had$18 million,$80 million to fritter away on Beyoncé starring in a film where everyone does a bad French accent.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: That's what I would do with$80 million if I had it.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: The world needs more of this.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Also, people don't make people don't make this kind of movie anymore.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: No, they really don't.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: They really don't.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: This is what I was saying recently.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Like, there's this like mid-level comedy stuff that's like not made anymore.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: It's just disappeared from from cinema completely.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And like I want I do want to bring this sort this sort of thing back as well because like I I miss I miss like this like early 2000s, mid-2000s comedy stuff.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I love I love the fact that it has no emotional arc.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: No stakes.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: I actually agree.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: I agree with that.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: I love that I love how little stakes there are in this.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Nothing.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: There's nothing going on.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Everyone is dead behind the eyes.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: It's beautiful.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: It's absolutely beautiful.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: There are so many amazing just to w to watch Steve Martin, one of the world, one of history's greatest comic performers.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: One of the funniest people in the world.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: One of the funniest people in the world who has ever lived.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: His um both of his hands into vases and then get his hands stuck.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: I actually really found that funny.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Absolutely hysterical.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: So absolutely hysterical.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: It's so funny.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I will just say, I'm looking at the trivia now.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Found out where a quarter of it went.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Steve Martin.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: 20 million.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: 20 million! Get it.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, yes.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Good for you.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Good for you, Steve Martin.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: Then, five million on reshoots.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: On re On reshoots of what?
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: What's it?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: To tone it down and to cut out explicit content so they could get a PG.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: To tone it that's tone down?
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: My god.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: You know what though?
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: What was in it?
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: I want to see this un I want to see this uncut version.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: 20 yeah, I want to see I want to see the X-rated.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: I want to see the X-rated version 100%.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: 20 million, that's what I mean that makes me feel good for Steve Martin.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: Because then they also the another amazing thing about this film is that even if you're not finding the script funny, you can find it funny that some of um some of history's greatest actors and performers are debasing themselves in the most outrageous way.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Just outrageous.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Some of the things Beyonce has to do in this film are obscene.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Beyonce has to flirt with uh Jacques Clouseau, Steve Martin, yeah, and be all sexy and try and like woo him.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: It's it's humiliating.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Also, that scene with that scene, it's never clear if she's actually interested in him or not.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: No, there's no there's no one story.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: I totally believe that this film was not written down as one script before they started filming.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: I think they just they sort sort of winged it scene to scene, and they saw where it went.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: It went nowhere, and that's what's amazing about it.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Can I can I tell you some of the people who are considered for Cluso?
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you've read up on it already or not.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: I have not.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: I'm thrilled to know.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Jim Carey, fair enough.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Robin Williams, okay.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Chris Tucker.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Chris Tucker.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's a logical choice.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Imagine Chris Tucker as as Inspector Cluseo.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: I don't want to, although again, the magic of this film is, even though Steve Martin is so integral to this film, yeah, I will I I will I totally believe that any of those other people could have played Cluseau, and I would still be sitting here today saying that this was the film ever.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Because the script is so weird and bad and just hysterical in every way, that you could you you don't need a good comic performer.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: It's not about the being good, it's about doing all it is, all you have to do to make this film work is just do what it says on the page.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Because what it says on the page is mental.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: And that's that's I hate to say this, that's cinema.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is what cinema is all about.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Is this the kind of thing that people bring on the podcast?
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: No, I this is like the most offense I've ever had for a film, and I love it.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: That's embarrassing.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: No, it's great.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Well, do people usually come on and go, yeah, this is a bad film?
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: No.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: I've just never seen such an impassioned, yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Well, it's very close to my heart.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Very close to my heart.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: I just want to also say that David Beckham was considered for was offered the supporting role of I imagine the Jason Satan role, but he opted out due to his obligations to Real Madrid.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, come on.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: Who are these people?
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: Who are these people?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: I want to be a fly on the wall in these meetings.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Where someone is going, I think we can get David Beckham for this.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: They probably could.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: They got Beon.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: They definitely could have got Beckham.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: They got Beyonce.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you who I'm glad they didn't get.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Uh so for Kevin Klein's role, one of the people considered was Kevin Spacey.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Oh god! And it's a good thing.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Although, bear with me here, that that would add yet another level of comedy on the rewatch.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Just see, I mean it's not levels, is what I'm saying.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Technically, he's a villain.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: And he is a villain.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: In the second one, John Cleese is in it.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: We'll never know.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Who does Oh wait?
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: Doesn't he replace Kevin Klein?
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he does.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: I think I read that, yeah.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: He's the same role, isn't he?
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, pretty much the same role.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: He's absolutely terrible.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, so it's not the same person, it's just like uh Lily Tomlin is in it.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: Jeremy Irons is in it.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: They got a bigger cast.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: It's a huge cast, it's also really international cast.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: They get like, oh, Andy Garcia is in it.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Alfred Molina is in it.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Oh no! It's a star-studded extravaganza.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: And I will say this as a I love both films, but the second one is way worse.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Than the first one.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: What is what's so bad about the second one compared to the first one then?
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Well, the second one, they I think the first one, they probably thought going into it that it might be quite good.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Or like it might be funny.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Um, which I'm still I'm committed to the idea that it is funny.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: But the second one, they know what they're doing.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: They know that they don't have to make a funny film to make$160 million.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: What they can do is just make a weirder film and put Steve Martin in it.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: So that's there there's no pretense about.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I can't remember exactly what the story is, but Squad of Internet.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Uh oh yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: They they there's a museum robber is stealing a lot of stuff from museums.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Like he's this guy steals the shroud of Turin and and something from Japan.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: So it's basically the same plot.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: It's like an intern- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, it's exactly the same.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Something's gone missing, and they have to find out who got it.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: But in this in this one, it's like international, they get the best detective from each country.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: And so it's Steve Martin sort of wrangling these detectives.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: It's pretty great.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: Is it also set in Paris?
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Because it's all filmed in Boston.
- 33:34unknown: No.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: Boston?
- 33:38unknown: I don't know.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: Why did they oh clearly they didn't they didn't have an amazing experience in Prague?
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: That's a shame.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And it also grows it costs 70 million and it grows 76.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the reason they didn't get another one.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: Yes, that makes that makes sense to me.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Because I mean, honestly, they deserved that.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: So it actually cost them less to make the second one.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, again, that makes sense because famously, Beyonce isn't in this one.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: True.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: And I think just Beyonce alone, you know, that's gonna I I've about any event that you're planning, if you decide to get Beyonce, that is gonna up the budget.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Whether it be the Pink Panther 2, whether it be a wedding, the bar mitzvah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: If you're committed to having Beyonce there, you're looking at spending an extra 10 mil easy.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to read about like white.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: I've got a great piece of trivia for you on the sequel.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Go on.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Emma Bunton was cast as the as the female lead, but had to drop out because she got pregnant.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: Absolutely amazing.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Eventually, eventually Bunton's character was deleted.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, they have this this.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: If we can't get Emma Bunten, we gotta get rid of the character altogether.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we could we it's Emma Bunten or bust.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I think that's probably happened to a lot of films.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: A lot of films that's happened to.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: I think that happened in The Godfather.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she turned it down.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: There was a character, there was a character, yeah, there was a big character in that that's not in it anymore because Emma Buntain turned it down.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Never know.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: We will never know.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, the the lore behind these movies is wild.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: Gorgeous, gorgeous backstory.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Um, beautiful cast, beautifully directed.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Can we talk about that?
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Uh sure.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: It's it is it is almost aggressively bland to look at.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Horrible, horrible stuff.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: That's why I was like, sure, we can talk about it.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's really just it's thin, it's um it's gaudy.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: However, the guy went the the director, Sean Levy, went on to direct Stranger Things.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: You gotta start somewhere, kids.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: So like he knows how to direct something that looks good.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: But he read this script, and he thought that wouldn't gel with the theme of the script.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Why why make this look good?
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: We need to make it look bad, actually, because otherwise it won't be a cohesive project.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: Very clever.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: That's a sign of a good director.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Can we talk about some of the amazing cameos?
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: For example, the um the the accent training lady.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Did you love that scene?
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I'm both one of the best scenes in cinematic history, um, for the listeners at home, for the all the listeners at home that haven't seen this film, which I'm sure aren't many of you because everyone's seen it million dollars.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: Um, there is a scene in which uh Steve Martin in a French accent is taught by someone to do an American accent and he can't do it.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: And the phrase that is used is I would like to buy a hamburger.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: And this scene goes on for upwards of three hours.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: And it's just Steve Martin, who genuinely, you I'm I can't stress this enough, can't do a French accent.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: No, it's really bad.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: It doesn't sound any anything like a French person, not even vaguely.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: It's not it doesn't even really sound like an offensive caricature of a French person.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: It just sounds like a made-up different accent.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: I I have to say as well though, like it says here that he had it it says in the in the trivia, he had such a respect for Peter Sellers that when he was asked to take over the role, he only dis he put off the decision to accept it until he had already worked out the character's accent.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: What?
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: That is so funny.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: That is so no, you've got to be respectful though.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: You've got to be respectful, that's so important.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Because Peter Sellers, obviously a legend.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Um so until you have come up with an accent that couldn't conceivably be mistaken for Peter Sellers, because Peter says what he does is a French accent.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Um whereas what Steve Martin does is a sort of alien accent.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, they kind of all do.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: They all do, they all do.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Weird French accent.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: So strange.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: It's so which is what part of the beauty of the film is that you live in you for for an hour and ten minutes or however you you live in this amazing alternate reality in which speaking Engl look everyone's is speaking English, but in this weird, indecipherable way.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: People are like this and they are talking like this.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: And that's too good.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: That's too good.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: What are you what are you saying?
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Sort of pan-European.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Anyway, he's taught how to say, I would like to buy a hamburger, and um he uh has some kind of stroke in the middle of it where um the joke is he can't say that right.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: He can't say the words right.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: No, um, he says them actually very different to how the woman is saying them.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Um so hit the woman will say, I would like to buy a hamburger, and then Steve Martin will say, I like to buy a hamburger.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: And it's so funny.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: It's something.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: It's something.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: You know when you see a student sketch show, and then and like half the show is one in turn.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: One long sketch, yeah.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: That has one idea, yeah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: And they and they are like so.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: It's half a premise dragged out, dragged out.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: It's so bad, and everyone's performance is terrible, but they're they're so convinced that it's their like best sketch that they bring it back in little callback sketches throughout the play.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, that is the perfect description of it, and it's so brilliant, and I love seeing those student sketch shows, and I love this film.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: This film is like a really, really high budget student sketch show.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Yes, actually, that that is a perfect description of it.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Beyonce in it with Beyonce, yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: They got Beyonce, that's how they managed to get on the on the lineup.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: Um okay, let's let's kind of let's run through some of the like the let's run through it.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: So we learn about Officer Clousseau as he begins.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: He's an We learn he's an idiot, he's making loads of mistakes.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Uh and then it and then it goes to like a France versus China football match.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Yes, versus China.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: France versus China.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: As is common.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Um it's Chinese poison.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: Isn't it?
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: So they all think it's Chinese the Chinese people.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: So the the the basically the we learn about the manager of the team is Jason Statham.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: He's engaged to Beyonce Jason Statham and Beyonce.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: You know that couple.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Our couple.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Our couple.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: They famously dated after this for years.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: So hot.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: So hot, mate.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: I wanna live in this world, in the world of the film, please.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: I think you would enjoy living in this world.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: I would fucking love it.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: This is an incredible alternate.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: This is how the world could be.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: This is the future that I want.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: Who would you most be like in this world?
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Beyonce.
- 41:28SPEAKER_00: I would be the Beyonce of this world.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: You would be the glamorous, the glamorous woman.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Which is there a BuzzFeed quiz?
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Which Pink Panther 2006 starring Steve Martin character are you?
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: I I will make one.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: You would yeah, which one would you be?
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: I'm seeing that I'm seeing Emily Mortimer.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: Emily Mortimer?
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Well, it's the love interest then.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: I'm the love interest.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: Just um I was gonna say I was gonna say Jean Renault.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: Jean Renault.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: I feel like I'd be Jason Statham.
- 41:59unknown: Yeah.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: Which is sad.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: It's sad because you have no lines.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I have no lines and I die early.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: But I want to live in this world where I die early.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: But I die a hero.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So I'll take it.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: For the listeners, Leo just removed his well, he moved down his glasses.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: He moved down my glasses.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: It was intensely comedic.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: It wasn't.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: Because I've been inspired by watching this film again.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: It's a lot of stats.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: Leo's turning gonna turn into a physical comedian.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: I I'm already very physical on stage.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, kind of.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: For the fans listening.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: I have a lot of physicality.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: I stand there and I tell the jokes.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: I've seen you've been a little bit physical sometimes.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: I can get physical.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: You move around the stage.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: I move around the stage.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: I'll do a little walk, maybe.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: I'll flip the the mic chord if there is one.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: I'll play with the space.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: I'll interact with the with the scenery.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Big time.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: Next time you're gonna do next time you're gonna do a backflip on stage.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna love it.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: We're gonna love it.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Next time I'm gonna sing an original Beyonce track.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: I would love it if you could have got up there and just opened with that.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe I should do that.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: Hamburger.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: It's just funny.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: That's you know when people are like you know when you're talking to someone who like really loves Family Guy or something.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: And um and you're like, oh, I don't I don't really get it.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: And they're like, it's just funny.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: That's me with this film.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: It's just funny.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, you can't pick it apart.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: It is it is funny.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: It's it's only you and for what for what it seems, it's you and then like your family members and your friend.
- 43:43unknown: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Have you met have you introduced anyone else to it?
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: No, everyone hates it.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: There's no one I've never met a single person outside that group of people that has in any way enjoyed this film.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: I was talking to someone last night at work, and she was saying that she liked it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: What?
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: What is her full name and number?
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: You will see her.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: She's behind, she works behind the bar.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Her name is Zoe.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: Zoe.
- 44:11unknown: Okay.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Zoe if you're listening to this podcast, which I doubt you are.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Zoe.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Um, do you get in touch at uh at Leo under-reich on Instagram?
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Um DM me about the Pink Panther, please.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: I'm willing to I'm I'm willing to watch it upwards of 20 more times.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Just do it just do a screening of it.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Just book a screening.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: I would.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: Don't give me ideas.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Imagine that's my birthday, maybe.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: You booked you book 21 Soho and like three people show up.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: I might.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: I'll book the I'll book the goddamn London Apollo.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: You booked the Apollo, yeah, why not?
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the London Apollo.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: The London Apollo, as it's called in the world.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: The London Apollo, yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, great film.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: It's it well, it's not, but yeah, oh you were running, we were running us through.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: What are your favourite scenes?
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: What are your favourite scenes?
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, my favourite scenes.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Uh let's see.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: I did you like any scene?
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: The the soundproof booth was stupid, but it did make me laugh.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Funny, funny, funny.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Basically, he goes to recording studio for everyone at home.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: He goes to recording studio, and there's like the recording booth.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Is this a room sandproof?
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: And Beyonce is like, yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: And then he walks in and he pretends to just be like looking around at the room.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: They didn't even find another thing for him to do in the room.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: He just walks and farts.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Everyone hears, and he walks out.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: And it's so funny.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: And you I'm sorry, hysterical to me.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: There is Beyonce has to do so many reaction shots to him farting.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: I think she has about five lines in this movie.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: She does not speak much.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: She is doing a lot of face acting.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: Where she sort of furrows her brow.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: And it's sublime.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Imagine you're flying Beyonce out and you're going, so Beyonce, what your role is in this scene is um, it's really to react to the thought.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: Um, so try and channel like uh the surprise that you might have felt on uh winning your ninth Grammy and just apply that to um a weird French man barting in your face.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: And you're saying that's Beyoncé.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: You kidding?
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: What amazing.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: Now that is directing.
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: That is directing.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Why cinema?
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: I'll say it again.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: I've said it once, I've said it again, I'll say it again.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: That is what we that's why we love the movies.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: That's why we go to the movies.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: That's why that's why we do what we do.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: That's why we all want to get into this business.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: This business we call show.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: I want to say another feel another scene that I actually laughed at, and this is huge.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: This is huge for this movie.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: When they go to fight the henchmen, and Steve Martin stands there pretending to fight as Jean Renault takes on the two henchmen.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: So funny.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: So funny.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: He just sort of stands to the side and flails his arms around.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: It it's so ridiculous, it's so insane that I it made me laugh.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: It's hysterical.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: Absolutely hysterical.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Do you not like the bit where um he takes off Emily Mortimer's glasses?
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Oh yes, yes.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Uh you are so beautiful without your glasses, you cannot wear them to an egg, and then she walks into a pillar.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, that is classic comedy.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: Comedy.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: That's classic comedy.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: That's good slapstick comedy.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: That is, that is, you know, you can't argue with that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: That's fun for all the family.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Take out someone's glasses, and then she walks, she walks into something.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Hilarious.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: I do I do love that you took off your glasses as well.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: I did, I did.

- 49:29SPEAKER_01: What else can we talk about with this movie?
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: It's like for some reason this like all the stuff with China, but like is dropped.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Immediately dropped throughout the whole movie and then like picks up again at the end when they mention Chinese herbs.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: He can speak Chinese.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: There's an amazing scene where he where Jean Renault's character says to him, Oh, you can speak Chinese, and he goes, What?
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: You think as I cannot speak Chinese?
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: And then then he goes on his weird rant about how it would be ridiculous if he doesn't speak Chinese.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: So weird.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: It's very strange.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: It must be like a page long in the script.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: You think what you are going down to the pub and going, oh, Cluzh, we cannot speak Chinese.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Next time he sees Cluzhot, we should not speak Chinese.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: And then he won't understand what we are saying.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Can I just say you do a great impression of him?
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, this has been this is 20 years in the making.

- 50:29SPEAKER_01: I can quote the whole movie.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: I can quote the whole movie.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Which is amazing.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: I can.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: I don't think I can quote.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: That's one of my favourites.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Say it again.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: That's we say that if someone tells a good joke in my family, um, and someone goes good one, everyone all immediately goes, good one Ponton.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: Ponton is the name of um Chopretto's character in this film, for those at home.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: You want cultured enough to get the reference.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: I forgot his name in the film.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: I thought you were talking about Kevin Klein.
- 51:01unknown: No.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about Ponton.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: Ponton.
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: Is in in theory a French name.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: It does sound French name.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Definitely not the viewership.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: Imagine I wonder how many French people have seen this film.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: I would say upwards of 20.
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: 20, yeah.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: I think 20 is about right.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: I wonder how many of those 20 liked it.
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Probably zero.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Including Jean Renault.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: I'd have to go with zero, probably, yeah.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: Zero seems like a safe bet.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely including John.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: You think Jean Renault liked this film, you're crazy.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: You are.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: He might have had fun.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: He did come back for the sequel.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: He might have he came back for the sequel, surely demanding demanding so much more money.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: We hope.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: We hope that.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: I hope he doubled it at least.
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Can I ask, like, is I was gonna say about the second one.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: Is he in it as much as the first one?
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: Genreau.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: He's in it loads.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: I wish I genuinely wish I could sit here and say something else.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: And say, no, he came back for a cameo.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: It's completely different.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: It's almost the identical.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: It's identical.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: The film is identical.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: Except slightly worse.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: Beyonce isn't in it.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: And instead of Kevin Klein, it's national treasure John Cleese.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: National treasure.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: Well, he is a national treasure.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Cancel Culture himself.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a it's a sad reflection of what we are as a country.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: But you can't say he isn't a national treasure.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: The nation does treasure him.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: And that reflects only on the nation.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: Um, oh, so it does do they have a Beyoncé style character in the second one then?
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: Beyonce.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: The film's Beyoncé um is no, they don't really.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: They have this um Bollywood actress who is if what you mean is do they have someone hot in the film?
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: That's what I meant.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: The answer.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what I mean when I say yes.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: They have um a sexy Bollywood actress who plays the character of woman.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: Um, really important character include, obviously, these days.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: Oh no, we talk too much about John Cleese.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: I'm telling you, John Cleese.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: Pink Panther 2.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, Ashwara Ashwara Rye by Chan.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: I can't say her name, but yeah.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Um and also Emily Mortem was back.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Emily Mortem is back for more, of course, obviously.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: Why wouldn't she be?
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, Kristen Channelworth, that's someone who's in the first one.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, she has like one second, doesn't she?
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Broadway star, Kristen Channelworth again stooping so low as to play a bit part in the worst film ever.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Tony Award winner to this.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: Just gorgeous.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Lily Tomlin is in the second one.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: It just keeps on giving.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: I feel like it has to have been a thing of like, oh, I want to work with Steve Martin.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: I'm going to do that.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be a pull.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: That's 100% gonna be a pull.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: Another thing that will be a pull, and I hate to be crass about this, is the vast amount of money they were clearly willing to do.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, of course.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Just vast.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: Pink Panther tube having a budget of$70 million.
- 54:30SPEAKER_00: Obscene.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: That is absolutely.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Does it feel like a cheaper movie though?
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: Does it look worse?
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: It um It's a different director.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: It's a different director.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: I I wouldn't say that um the first one looks quite bad.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: It does, yeah.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: So the second one doesn't look like massively, you can't get much worse for$70 million.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: But it manages definitely to be noticeably tackier in almost every regard.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: It's the director of Agent Cody Banks.
- 55:04SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Which actually that that at least you're adding some prestige to it there.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: He went from Agent Cody Banks Harold Zvort.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: Are you talking about Harold's Vort?
- 55:15SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Agent Cody Banks, and then I would say 30,000 other films that I've never heard of.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: I've never heard of the Karate Kid I've heard of, and I've not heard of any of the other ones.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: No.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: No.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, he it feels like he's um he's Norwegian.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's directing something right now called Langflatterballer 3.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: That sounds good.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: It's a good title.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he actually he actually wrote.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: This is one for um any Scandinavians at home.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: He actually wrote Olyofondit.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Um, which is pretty huge.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: If you're a fan of Scandinavian TV series, yeah.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: I've always telling people to watch that.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Ollyofondit, gorgeous show.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um, a humorous drama centered around the Norwegian pension fund.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he wrote that.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: That's my recommendation.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna if you like the Pink Panda, you'll love that.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, imagine the meeting um where they're like, so Steve, um, we've just we're really excited, we've just found the director for the second Pink Panther.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Um, you're gonna go crazy.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: He's the guy who actually directed Olyofondit.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: Have you seen that uh in the TV drama, The Human TV drama?
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: You got you got Harold Swart, you got yeah, everyone crying, Steve Martin crying, pinnacle of his career.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: But how will we factor in the budget for this?
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: That's maybe that's why Steve Martin hasn't done anything of note since the second thing monster.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: Is because he was like, I can't, I can't do anything better.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: I've now I've achieved my dream.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: I worked with the director of Olya Fondit, a humorous TV show centered around the Norwegian pension fund.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: And now, where is where is there to go?
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: What can I do?
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: I just found out what lang lang flatia bala stone actually means.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: Hit me.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: Long flat balls.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: Long flat balls! This guy's funny.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: This guy has funny bones.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: That's why he was such a great choice to direct history's funniest film, The Pink Panther 2.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: Six regular guys leave their home in and life in Frederickstad to in order to go to the World Cup in Germany to cheer on Norway.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, that could not sound less appealing to me.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: That sounds so boring.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Every single word of that was was hell.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I borrowed Germany in that.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: Horrible.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: So you have defended this movie very well, I think.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: I think you've defended it throughout the entire podcast, whereas some people will come on and defend it right at the end.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: I don't think you need to.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: Is there anything else that you want to talk about with it though?
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: With this film, all I would say is um speaking as a snob, um, I I I mean based on your bad education and Rushmore posters in the background.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we didn't have to say that out loud on the podcast.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: No, but that those I love those movies as well.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: They're good movies, they're good movies.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: Um to have the posters on my my wall in my childhood bedroom.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: Um you might be you might think red flag, this guy is a cunt, and you wouldn't be wrong.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: I mean you wouldn't my childhood bedroom right now.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Look at these posters.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: I've got my name at Totoro and a Charlie Chaplin poster.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: So it's true.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, we're we're rocking similar vibes, so I I feel I feel safe with you.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: I do feel safe with you.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I I I do have a final section, yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Um, which is the reverse of this, which is what and I'm curious because you you seem to be a fan of like a lot of like highbrow movies as well.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: Like what what is a highbrow guy?
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Uh what is I mean you might be.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sure.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: No, I'll take it.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: What is the reverse of this?
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: A movie that's well loved by critics and fans that you think is a bad movie.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, I have actually loads of these.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: But the one that sprung to mind first was um Steven Spielberg's classic film uh Warhorse.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: I was hoping you were gonna say Shindler's List there for a second.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: Shindler's List, no, I do actually like Shindler's List.
- 59:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I think it has some amazing scenes.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: No, sorry, War Horse.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: Although something about Schindler's List is the first time I watched it, I watched it.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: This isn't really that funny, but I it was a two-disc set.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I watched it from the second disc.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: I by accident put the second disc in first.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: And I thought it was a really avant-garde way of telling the story.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: I was like, this is this is fully wrapping up.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: Like they have cut What is this, Pulp Fiction?
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: The Holocaust is over and we're only halfway through.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Are we gonna flash?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Have you heard that thing about uh Bohomi and Rhapsody where they wanted to do like Brian May wanted to do a thing of um like Freddie Mercury dying in the middle of the film and then they would continue on throughout the uh at the second half of the film was gonna be like about the rest of Queen continuing?
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean I could I another total contender for this question.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: Um, although Oh yeah, that that's not a well-loved movie.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, but it was nominated for he won best actor for it.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also won best editing somehow, which is insane.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: It's it it makes me feel sick.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: That is one of the most homophobic films I've ever seen.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really bad.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: It's mental.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry, Warhorse.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: War horse.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: I don't look, I don't hate horses.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: I'm not against, I'm not politically against the existence of horses.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying, if your film is about World War One, where like millions of people die, and the the thing that I meant to feel empathy for is a horse, you're crazy.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_00: You are crazy.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: Do not bring in an a swelling orchestra as a horse is dying and expect me to feel bad when in the background that people are dying left, right, and centre.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: It feels sick, it feels like some kind of sick joke.
- 1:01:24unknown: Yeah.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: It's a horse.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: Have you seen the play?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: You've eaten horse?
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: Where?
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: In in um in France and in Iceland.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: It tastes good.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: Does it?
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: It tastes good.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised they didn't shoot this horse early doors, because they're all so fucking hungry in the trenches.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: Steven Spielberg, get a grip.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: Michael Morpurgo as well, get a get a grip.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: What stop writing books about a random animal in a random war zone?
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: That is not a good formula.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Wait, what else has he written?
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: He wrote that one about a cat in a war.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: There was one about a lion in a war.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: I read all of these.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: I hated every single one.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Is it a met what is it?
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: Is it a metaphor for the is the is the horse a metaphor?
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: Because people can sympathize.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: People like feel for animals more than they do for humans.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what is that?
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: It's so str it's very strange, isn't it?
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: Go to the doctor.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: If the saddest film to you is Marley and me, you have to go to the doctor, because that's insane.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: People feel more empathy for animals than people.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: That's I I think that's called being a psychopath.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: That's not good.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: If you're crying every time a horse get dies, come on.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: Get real.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: So what you're say what you're telling us is you're anti-horse girl.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: I'm anti-horse film.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: I'm anti-dog.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: Horse girl.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: Horse girl.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Horse girl.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: What's horse girl?
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: Like the girls that always like.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: Oh! I thought you were saying that was a film called Horse Girls.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: Oh no, not yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: In which case I would be anti.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_00: Although that is a funny name for a film.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: I'm anti-horse girls.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_00: Yes, although I do find them so sad that um I warm to them eventually.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: They baffle me.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: I like if a horse girl is 14, I'm like, okay, you're clearly going through so much.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Exactly, yeah.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: That I have to be here to support you.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: When a horse girl grows up and is 25 and is still a horse girl, at that point I'm like, you know what?
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_00: I think I think we're on opposite teams here.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: I think that I just I don't trust I guess what I'm saying is I don't trust the politics of that person.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: I do not trust the politics of a person who cares that much about a horse.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: They tend to favor what they think tend to lean one way politically, but Yeah.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: Say no more.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: If you own a horse, that's a red flag for me.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_01: It is, yeah.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: It's a red flag for me as well.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: That's another red flag.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: On on dating apps, if I see a horse girl, I'm like, nope.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: And that's that's a true thing.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: I love the I I'm I just had a mental image of like tens of thousands of horse girls listening to this podcast.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_00: And suddenly going, God, I need to change my my hinge pictures.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: I am me sing out.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_00: Missing out on Yanis.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_00: The only only reason I got hinged.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: Fuck's sake, I thought you liked horses.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at the uh I'm I've have a few I ha I used to be a big um IMDB person.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, me too.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: So I have like a bunch of stuff rated one out of ten.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, you you got all the ratings.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do I do little ratings.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: I did to just try and keep track of what I'm seeing.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: The Danish Girl, of course.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: Awful, awful movie.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_00: Sickening in every way.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: Truly nothing.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: No, no redeeming features whatsoever.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_01: Again, another best actor, Oscar winner.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: So aggressively awful.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: Redmane's performance in this is the most objectionable thing Eddie Redmane has ever done.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: And that is a crowded field.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_01: It's so bad.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: We just talked about uh with n I talked about with Nick Samson uh the Jupiter Ascending the other day.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my god! With Eddie Redmane as well.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: That's funny though.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: That's a good choice.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: That was funny.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good choice.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: That's a really good choice.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: Because that's a another nuts film that is Yeah.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: And Eddie Redmane is the worst but also best thing in that.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_00: Beautiful.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: That's a that's such a good choice.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: Wish I thought that.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_00: Lincoln.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: Lincoln's just boring.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, so boring.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: You're not you're not a like late Spielberg fan, are you?
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: No, I hate that guy.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: He loves the violin so much.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, do you not like any Spielberg stuff for the most part?
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: Schindler's List is good.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: Jaws.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_00: Jaws is great.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_00: Apart from that, not not really.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not a huge fan.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: Well.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Don't love it.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: It's just a bit um bit sappy, isn't it?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_00: Did you see the the West Side story?
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen it yet.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: I've heard really good things though.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: Everyone loves it.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, have you seen the original West Side story?
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: The original is might be the best musical of all time.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: It's phenomenal.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: That's why I haven't gone to see it yet.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not as good.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: I didn't think it would be as good.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: Even close.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: It's not even close to being as good.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_00: They do a weird thing where my my favourite thing about musicals is that um they're not realistic because famously people don't burst into the song all the time.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: Um apart well, it depends what circle you um move in.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: But in this movie, they're playing it straight up realism the whole fucking time, and it's embarrassing towards me.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: I'm not a fan.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_00: I want you know, in the original where they had those scenes where it's just like randomly everything's red.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_00: Gorgeous.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: Love that.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: And then in this one, there's no scene where everything's red, and I'm like, okay, why am I wearing it?
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_00: Where's the red?
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: Where's the red?
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_00: Where why is what?
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_00: Make things red.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_01: Well, that's the other thing.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_01: When I was I remember watching the trailer for it and thinking, why is this so like desaturated as well?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: It looks like the colour's gone from it for the most.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: It looks like a computer game.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_00: It's so strange.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_00: I did not I did not like it.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: It's what they did with uh Jersey boys as well.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: They just like toned down the saturation, it looked terrible.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm not I'm not keen.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: It's just uncre I it I find it to be uncreative.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: And I I think that about most of the later Spielberg.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: I've got very serious suddenly.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_00: I'm twirling, I'm just to be honest, I'm not a fan of later Spielberg.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: I find him to be uninspiring.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: Boring.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_00: One of history's greatest directors, but have you impressed me, Steven?
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: Wait, are you the are you the guy in the back of the film class right now?
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I am.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_00: That's what that's I mean against wall.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Spielberg, how about have you heard of a little known director called Tarantino?
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_00: That's me right now.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: Ugh.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: Spielberg.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_00: Scott Case.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_01: Speaking of overrated, Tarantino.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_00: Wait, what did you say?
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: Overrated?
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: I haven't liked him in a long time.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not, I'm not, I'm not thrilled.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not thrilled by it, to be honest.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: Then here I am.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_00: Um loving the Pink Panther.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: What did you say?
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: I'm a man of simple pleasures.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_00: What I want is bad acting, a bad script, and lots of dodgy accent work.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_00: And that's yeah.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: And then I'm happy.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: And this is the perfect film for that.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_01: And maybe the sequel is as well.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: The sequel is as well.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_00: And actually, this the sequel demands a rewatch.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_00: It demands it.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: I will say, unless you pick it, I will never unless you come back on and do it, I will never talk about it.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: I will never watch it.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_00: Well, that's sad.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_00: That's out of here, but ultimately that's your loss.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: It's your life.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: Your life.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: And if you don't want to spend it watching the Pink Panther 20, 22 times, I would say, if I had to guess.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: Um, then your funeral.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna kill you for not doing that.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: That that's not what I mean by your funeral.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's what I took from this.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_01: You're you're gonna kill me soon.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_00: I'm going to murder you in your sleep, much like Eve Gluo is murdered.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: The name of the murdered character in the Pink Panther one.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: Thank you and good night.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: Well, what a way to end it.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: Um, how can we find you online?
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_01: And do you have anything you want to promote?
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_00: Um, how can you find me online?

- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm sorry.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: It's not funny, but it is it is ultimately difficult to handle.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_00: And it is accurate.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: I am tired.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: Seven coffees.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, seven coffees.

- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: No, this old this old man from America took it.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_01: And he's not even his name.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_00: That's annoying.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: That is annoying.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_01: I'm literally the only person in the world with my name, and he took it.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_00: I didn't I feel like I'm the only person in the world with my name.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not like a name I've heard of.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: It's not a common name.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: Why are people doing this to us?
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: It's horrendous.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that's that's that's where you can find me online.
